Good evening. Great Britain was on the verge of victory in the opening

:00:35.:00:45.

day of their Davis Cup tie after a superb performance from Jamie Murray

:00:46.:00:48.

and Dominic Inglot who held their nerve to come through a tense

:00:49.:00:49.

doubles match yesterday. COMMENTATOR: Always pivotal, the

:00:50.:01:01.

doubles rubber. Top match today, unbelievable quality. A comfortable

:01:02.:01:05.

breaker Great Britain have set up. I think what was really good is how

:01:06.:01:14.

they have responded. Great Britain have taken a two sets to one lead.

:01:15.:01:23.

We stayed strong in important moments, great first set. Great

:01:24.:01:27.

written win the pivotal doubles. Happy to win the point and give our

:01:28.:01:31.

guys to bites of the cherry tomorrow. Jenni Murray was good as

:01:32.:01:37.

always, but Dominic Inglot was the best player on the court, collecting

:01:38.:01:40.

his second Davis Cup victory to put his team has won away from the

:01:41.:01:43.

quarterfinals for a fourth year in a row. Onto the final day, and it was

:01:44.:01:48.

full of incident. We have a lot to look forward to in the next are

:01:49.:01:53.

half. In the absence of Andy Murray, Dan Evans was Britain's 11. Could he

:01:54.:01:59.

get victory against the big hitting Vasek Pospisil, a quarterfinalist at

:02:00.:02:04.

Wimbledon two years ago? And inspired by the Canadian fans,

:02:05.:02:10.

Pospisil was at his best, he took the first two sets, 7-6, 6-4, Evans

:02:11.:02:20.

in real trouble. Commentators are John Lloyd and Chris Bratton.

:02:21.:02:41.

Nearly 80% of points behind his first serve.

:02:42.:03:00.

It was in! JOHN LLOYD: No one in the crowd was

:03:01.:03:11.

sure if it was in not, nobody clapped.

:03:12.:03:22.

UMPIRE: Great Britain challenging the call on the left service line,

:03:23.:03:32.

the ball was called in. UMPIRE: Great Britain has one

:03:33.:03:54.

challenge remaining. He needs to hang onto that one

:03:55.:03:55.

challenge. Until he is pretty sure. Just seeing how many challenges he

:03:56.:04:11.

had left! UMPIRE: Canada has two challenges

:04:12.:04:25.

remaining. Oh, that is the worst forehand we

:04:26.:04:55.

have seen. Dan Evans took off very early to take that fall on the

:04:56.:04:58.

forehand side, and didn't hit a particularly good shot. It is the

:04:59.:05:04.

first time he has done that. Surprisingly are from Pospisil.

:05:05.:05:05.

Plenty of time on this one. Would you believe it. When he has

:05:06.:05:33.

looked so rock-solid, Evans is back into this third set. He has to

:05:34.:05:38.

regroup immediately. No thoughts of congratulations at his mind that he

:05:39.:05:42.

has broken back, right away he must get back to business of holding his

:05:43.:05:46.

own serve. Which he failed to do in the second set. Exactly. That really

:05:47.:05:50.

was given away by the Canadian. CHEERING

:05:51.:06:47.

All of the come ons, the battling, they are being rewarded right now

:06:48.:06:49.

for Evans. Not a bad change up there. He read

:06:50.:07:00.

it early. And he hasn't had a lot to cheer

:07:01.:08:24.

about, as the director is clearly showing us. He has now, he has got

:08:25.:08:31.

his nose in front. It is not a break, but he's hanging in here very

:08:32.:08:35.

well. That's all he can do, it is a good effort to get back mentally. So

:08:36.:08:44.

they have gone into a third hour in this match. Pospisil just needs to

:08:45.:08:52.

regroup here. Two sets and 3-1, serving at 3-4 third set because he

:08:53.:08:56.

lost the last three games. Just a little bit slow getting

:08:57.:09:24.

around that forehand. He has been lightning on most occasions during

:09:25.:09:27.

this match when the ball was anywhere near his backhand side, he

:09:28.:09:30.

gets around and hit the forehand, but that one, he didn't get the feet

:09:31.:09:32.

right. That sin. That's in. You don't want

:09:33.:10:09.

to take on the Pospisil forehand too many times, but that was an occasion

:10:10.:10:13.

when it looked like Dan Evans had the chance to get ahead in the

:10:14.:10:18.

rally, but Berlin response. CHEERING

:10:19.:10:22.

-- brilliant response. That was a little ragged. That knee

:10:23.:11:02.

suddenly starts to eight as the tension builds. He was so tight

:11:03.:11:07.

Friday at the beginning of his match.

:11:08.:11:38.

Great stride, well played, Pospisil. Just thought there in that early

:11:39.:11:47.

part of the rally, Evans had a chance to hit the backhand approach

:11:48.:11:54.

and come in on Pospisil's way weaker side, and he didn't do so. We would

:11:55.:12:02.

have loved to have seen Pospisil having to hit a backhand passing

:12:03.:12:03.

shot at 30-30. So much hinges on this man's first

:12:04.:13:13.

serve. It is a feature that controls the whole match, almost.

:13:14.:14:27.

Again, just nudged that ball back somehow, it wasn't a particularly

:14:28.:14:34.

good return, but he got his racket on the ball. What a bonus that

:14:35.:14:36.

turned out to be. Oh, was it? Evans' return was

:14:37.:15:05.

perilously close, but... UMPIRE: Great witness challenging

:15:06.:15:11.

the call. This is huge, right here. Is it

:15:12.:15:12.

ever. It out! It's four games in a row the

:15:13.:15:30.

Dan Evans, who will serve for the third set. Way to hang in there, Dan

:15:31.:15:37.

Evans looked like he was out of this match, kept the police.

:15:38.:15:46.

UMPIRE: Canada has one challenge remaining.

:15:47.:15:50.

Got the balls back into play, worked hard. Pospisil's first serve

:15:51.:15:57.

percentage dropping, maybe a sign of tiredness. A few easy forehand is

:15:58.:15:59.

missed. The emotional drain must be so

:16:00.:16:16.

fatiguing in the Davis Cup. It is, having to play three matches in a

:16:17.:16:21.

row as Pospisil has had to do, sometimes you will get these lapses

:16:22.:16:25.

of concentration, particularly when you haven't played many matches.

:16:26.:16:35.

Played so well yesterday, Dom Inglot was probably the start of the show

:16:36.:16:45.

yesterday for Great Britain, but Jamie Murray backed him up

:16:46.:16:48.

admirably. UMPIRE: Let, first service.

:16:49.:17:16.

The pressures change so quickly, don't they? He just rushed a little

:17:17.:17:22.

bit. Serving to the backhand is paying

:17:23.:17:48.

dividends. Slowed that serve down a bit, made sure he got it in, kicked

:17:49.:17:50.

it up I. What a second serve that was! Serve

:17:51.:18:20.

on the line, forehand off the top of the net. Living dangerously. Set

:18:21.:18:23.

point Great Britain. He has never won a match from two

:18:24.:18:50.

sets down, Dan Evans. The comeback begins.

:18:51.:19:43.

Jamie Baker, your thoughts at this point? It Israeli question of how

:19:44.:19:52.

Vasek Pospisil regroups. -- it is really a question. The momentum Will

:19:53.:20:02.

Evans, he is sniffing out the momentum, no question about that.

:20:03.:20:10.

So much extra energy with Evans right now, inevitably having won the

:20:11.:20:19.

third set, he had gone through a patch of looking really down and

:20:20.:20:24.

flat, and he has talked himself out of that. A chance to sit with your

:20:25.:20:25.

captain at the sit down. You are playing for your country,

:20:26.:20:37.

you don't want to let people down. It all helps. And they had the kind

:20:38.:20:43.

of slight disagreement and toing and froing about what to do on the

:20:44.:20:46.

returns, he seems to have worked through that, he is in a position

:20:47.:20:50.

where he is happy with what he is doing now.

:20:51.:21:14.

It's in, and he's got another break point.

:21:15.:21:58.

Oh, yes, that was good. This is on a break point.

:21:59.:22:05.

UMPIRE: Canada is challenging the call on the right near side. The

:22:06.:22:11.

ball was called in. Is that a let if it was in? It has to be, because he

:22:12.:22:16.

had a play on it. It is definitely in, so what is the call?

:22:17.:22:22.

UMPIRE: First service. No way. He was going to get the breaks ever

:22:23.:22:26.

sure, Evans, and he gets the first serve back.

:22:27.:22:35.

UMPIRE: Canada has to challenges remaining.

:22:36.:22:58.

Four points in a row. He is building on this momentum, Dan Evans.

:22:59.:23:10.

SUE BARKER: Evans was on a roll, we move on a few games and Evans is

:23:11.:23:15.

still up a break, serving at 3-2. JOHN LLOYD: Shaking his head at the

:23:16.:23:49.

tactic again. Don't change what is working, Dan! How many points did

:23:50.:23:56.

you get in the last game from nailing the Pospisil backhand? Like

:23:57.:24:03.

that, and he's not really hurt him off the backhand at all. Commentary

:24:04.:24:13.

boxes are unbeaten around the world, aren't they? Very grateful to him

:24:14.:24:17.

for letting us see how good Pospisil's backhand is!

:24:18.:24:25.

That is another massive clue, isn't it? That actually was a really

:24:26.:24:35.

tricky volley, as well. Almost touching the net with his right foot

:24:36.:24:39.

as he slid in here, closing down the net well. Look at that.

:24:40.:25:34.

Hasn't made that shot the whole match, trying to drive it down the

:25:35.:25:39.

line. Here is a break point. He sprinted out from the sit down

:25:40.:26:52.

with the attention of breaking, Pospisil. He's achieved just that.

:26:53.:27:00.

You do have to say, that is a great effort from the Canadian.

:27:01.:27:04.

Considering what had happened from the lead in the third set. All the

:27:05.:27:10.

momentum, a poor start to this fourth set, and he has regrouped.

:27:11.:27:16.

And that's what it means. SUE BARKER: The captain, the crowd

:27:17.:27:22.

on their feet as Pospisil gets back level. The next two games went with

:27:23.:27:26.

serve, so let's read joined the action at four games all.

:27:27.:27:45.

He might have had a barren spell on serve, but what a time to come into

:27:46.:27:50.

a purple patch now. What a miss! Perfect play, wasn't

:27:51.:28:02.

it? A little spring in the step right at

:28:03.:29:40.

the end, finally banishing the memory of that.

:29:41.:30:24.

That's the first time he's made one of those. What a time to do it. Yes,

:30:25.:30:36.

the missed first serve, the sliced return was wide enough, Pospisil

:30:37.:30:41.

still managing to hit a forehand. You are right, I think this is the

:30:42.:30:43.

first one we have seen him make. What they return! -- what a return.

:30:44.:30:56.

40-0, two break point. That point had a drama written all

:30:57.:31:40.

over it. Three hours and three minutes. How

:31:41.:34:06.

much drama left in this one? Dan Evans asked to hold serve to keep

:34:07.:34:08.

the match alive. UMPIRE: Canada has zero challenges

:34:09.:34:52.

remaining. How was that from 0-15? Cool as you

:34:53.:36:05.

like. Great play, great commitment from Dan Evans on just about every

:36:06.:36:12.

shot in that game. Can he find a way?

:36:13.:36:38.

So many times on the first point he has made the T serve. Very hard for

:36:39.:36:50.

Evans to have a play on that. Just one kilometre per hour off his

:36:51.:37:26.

quickest. Weigh over 130 mph. Three aces in a game. Not for the

:37:27.:37:49.

first time. Tie-break minimum for Pospisil. Fourth set.

:37:50.:43:57.

UMPIRE: Both teams receive one additional challenge.

:43:58.:50:20.

UMPIRE: Challenge to the call, the ball was called in.

:50:21.:52:01.

What a masterful performance from the 26-year-old to put Canada right

:52:02.:53:55.

back in the tie. Let's hear from him. I played really well. Of

:53:56.:54:07.

course, the home crowd advantage is an advantage. Daniel was playing

:54:08.:54:10.

quite well and I had to play at a high level to beat him. I am

:54:11.:54:14.

thrilled to do it. I knew it was going to be very tough. I was

:54:15.:54:19.

confident, of course, I am confident in my abilities. You know, the Davis

:54:20.:54:24.

Cup, you are playing a great player, you never know, it is a coin toss,

:54:25.:54:30.

really. Very happy I was able to perform at a high standard. So,

:54:31.:54:36.

level at 2-2. It would all be decided in the final match, for

:54:37.:54:40.

Briton Kyle Edmund who, by his own admission, played a dismal match

:54:41.:54:48.

previously, up against Shapovalov. We will see that in a moment. First

:54:49.:54:55.

of all, Pospisil, an inspired performance. He had a leg injury in

:54:56.:54:59.

the last two matches but that is the best we have seen him play Fifa

:55:00.:55:03.

years? We were questioning where his confidence would be at before it

:55:04.:55:07.

started. A great win on Friday, really close doubles. He played a

:55:08.:55:16.

fantastic match. It was about the big points. It was enjoyable to see

:55:17.:55:19.

him actually soaking up the atmosphere so much. He really got

:55:20.:55:24.

the crowd involved. He thanked the crowd in that interview, but it was

:55:25.:55:27.

partly the way he played on the big points and also his reaction. He

:55:28.:55:31.

really fired them up and it really helped. Disappointed with Dan Evans,

:55:32.:55:36.

he had his chances to get back in. If he could have got the fourth, the

:55:37.:55:40.

momentum would be with him? At times I thought he would find their way to

:55:41.:55:44.

win the match. He was nudging his way back. Big points, he did not

:55:45.:55:49.

convert. Pospisil, after the lack of confidence he had, that maybe Dan

:55:50.:55:58.

would find a way. He had the chances and didn't take them. Pospisil, you

:55:59.:56:02.

look at him in this tie and you think his ranking is only going to

:56:03.:56:06.

go one way, and that is up. The forehand was awesome, the server was

:56:07.:56:11.

awesome. As Jamie said, the big points, he was magnificent. Every

:56:12.:56:14.

time the pressure points were there, he played the big ones well. The

:56:15.:56:19.

British team, Dan Evans played so well on Friday, expecting so much,

:56:20.:56:24.

and now the pressure is on? Absolutely. The first match, he was

:56:25.:56:29.

able to dictate a lot of the points. That was a different case here.

:56:30.:56:34.

Evans, going into the match, he was the best player in the tie. We would

:56:35.:56:40.

think he would have a good chance of closing out. But anything can happen

:56:41.:56:44.

in the final rubber, that is for sure. As far as Pospisil is

:56:45.:56:48.

concerned, when you are serving that well, five aces in a row or

:56:49.:56:53.

something, was it six? When you have a weapon like that on a court but is

:56:54.:56:58.

this fast, it is hard to beat? They picked the surface perfectly, that

:56:59.:57:04.

is what happens in home ties. If Milos Raonic had been here, how

:57:05.:57:12.

would they have picked? I bet he wishes he could play on the surface

:57:13.:57:17.

every week of the year. 2-2, it will go down to the fifth and final

:57:18.:57:22.

match. Kyle Edmund against 17-year-old Shapovalov. We can join

:57:23.:57:26.

it on a server. The Canadian is serving at 3-4 in the opening set.

:57:27.:57:45.

I would have loved to have seen Andy Murray, trying to get the Raonic

:57:46.:58:02.

serve back on this surface. There is an example of that shot. A plenty of

:58:03.:58:09.

time and should have hit a sliced backhand, went for a full swing

:58:10.:58:12.

backhand from inside the service box. While the -- wild error.

:58:13.:58:22.

Snuck it through beautifully. He thought about the forehand,

:58:23.:58:27.

initially. Solid. Solid point. A well thought

:58:28.:59:14.

out point. Excellent play. Just didn't look like missing in this

:59:15.:59:18.

rally. He had command of the rally from the start. Side to side, gets

:59:19.:59:25.

his opponent on the run and comes in with a backhand volley to finish.

:59:26.:59:33.

UMPIRE: Canada challenging the call on the left sideline.

:59:34.:00:19.

That was way out. You look at it when he had that 15-0 point, he had

:00:20.:00:26.

that comfortable backhand. That is not the best challenge I have ever

:00:27.:00:32.

seen. That was the first wild game we have seen from him on a couple of

:00:33.:00:34.

occasions. He looked like a youngster out on

:00:35.:00:38.

the court in that game. He has worked as hard as anybody,

:00:39.:00:55.

that gentleman. That is what he's capable of. He is

:00:56.:02:13.

fearless, we saw that with a double fault on the break point. He swings

:02:14.:02:17.

at this one. Good recovery, disappointing

:02:18.:03:28.

forehand on the previous point. Second ace of the game seals the

:03:29.:06:00.

opening set the Great Britain. SUE BARKER: So, advantage Great

:06:01.:06:06.

Britain as Edmonds takes the opening set, showing he is in much better

:06:07.:06:09.

form that his opening match. We pick-up the second at 3-3.

:06:10.:06:36.

UMPIRE: Let first service. He has broken, but in all the other service

:06:37.:06:45.

games, he has only lost six points, this man, and two of them were

:06:46.:06:46.

double faults. UMPIRE: New balls, please.

:06:47.:08:44.

They enjoyed it, he enjoyed it, he is 4-3 up, second set. Here we go.

:08:45.:08:53.

Let's treat ourselves to another look at these backhands. Two coming

:08:54.:08:57.

up, there is one. UMPIRE: Time.

:08:58.:09:01.

He is loving this. A challenge. New balls in play for Edmund. 3-4,

:09:02.:09:13.

second set. To refuse of them. -- terrific use

:09:14.:09:36.

of the. UMPIRE: Let, first service.

:09:37.:11:06.

He has won ten points in a row on serve. Just that double fault on the

:11:07.:11:10.

fourth game of this set. It puts pressure on the opponent.

:11:11.:11:17.

Not getting anywhere near. Great hustle from Kyle Edmund in

:11:18.:12:41.

that point, he had to eat deep for that backhand corner to stay in

:12:42.:12:43.

there, forging himself a chance. Well, one break in the first set

:12:44.:13:08.

came at the business end. Three chances for a repeat here.

:13:09.:13:53.

Kyle Edmund will serve for a two sets to love lead.

:13:54.:14:35.

Still under an hour. Edmund gets ready to serve for a two sets to

:14:36.:14:44.

love lead. 5-4, second set. That is 13 points in a row on serve.

:14:45.:15:33.

13! It's a commanding position. He's

:15:34.:17:11.

stepped up, Kyle Edmund, so far in terrific style. The 17-year-old has

:17:12.:17:17.

got to come from two sets down to win. That's a very tall order.

:17:18.:17:24.

SUE BARKER: Edmund in superb form, very much in charge of the match. We

:17:25.:17:26.

rejoin the third set at 1-1. If you blink, you missed two points

:17:27.:19:02.

it is so quick, it is unbelievable. One hour and 13 minutes. Nadal

:19:03.:19:49.

winning a set 6-2 takes longer than that! He takes longer to walk on the

:19:50.:19:53.

court than that! Edmund pushing for another break-in,

:19:54.:20:15.

earlier on in the set, this time. This is a huge test now.

:20:16.:20:28.

From that position in the court, that was a two out of ten chance on

:20:29.:20:42.

that backhand. Terrific from Edmund, he breaks

:20:43.:20:57.

early. Oh, oh. He meant to hit that out of the stand. Did he hit the

:20:58.:21:04.

umpire there. The referee is rushing to the court. Oh, boy. This has got

:21:05.:21:10.

to be a disqualification. The audiences stunned into silence. That

:21:11.:21:18.

is the incident, oh, I tell you. It looks worse the second time you see

:21:19.:21:20.

it. UMPIRE: Ladies and gentlemen, game,

:21:21.:21:32.

set and match, Great Britain, 6-3, 6-4, 4-1 default.

:21:33.:21:37.

What a shame that that would end this way. It looked like Kyle Edmund

:21:38.:21:41.

would get the win, but to win like this. Such a shame. He has no

:21:42.:21:51.

choice, unfortunately. The umpire doesn't want this tie to be finished

:21:52.:21:59.

this way. But that could be serious. You could lose... I mean, when a

:22:00.:22:06.

ball gets hit at that pace, obviously he didn't see it coming.

:22:07.:22:11.

There could be all sorts of damage to the retina and staff. I have had

:22:12.:22:20.

it myself, and I know. It's closing up, it is terrible. There is a

:22:21.:22:26.

stunned feel to the end of this tie. Great Britain are through to the

:22:27.:22:31.

quarterfinals. It was a strange way to finish, I have never been part of

:22:32.:22:35.

something like that, but I was looking on the positive side, I was

:22:36.:22:39.

pleased with how I was going about the processes, especially up on the

:22:40.:22:46.

last match, I improved my game. So yes, today I came out, and I had on

:22:47.:22:53.

paper the advantage, but we don't play on paper, we are playing on

:22:54.:22:57.

hard court, and in a pressure environment, especially in the Davis

:22:58.:23:03.

Cup, a lot can happen. The first thing that comes through my mind,

:23:04.:23:07.

there is always a lesson to be learned from the good moments and

:23:08.:23:11.

the worst. If he wants to compete at this level, he has got to keep it

:23:12.:23:19.

together at all cost, under all circumstances, and emotional control

:23:20.:23:21.

is the biggest factor in this game. And so hopefully, if there is no

:23:22.:23:27.

damage to the referee, he can learn from that and learn his lesson to

:23:28.:23:33.

move forward and hopefully this lesson serves him for the rest of

:23:34.:23:39.

his career to just control your emotions. It's only a tennis match.

:23:40.:23:44.

A surprise what happened at the end there, and it's a shame that it has

:23:45.:23:49.

happen that way, and I feel for the young lad, because he's a great

:23:50.:23:53.

talent and he's learned a lesson today. But what I would say is I

:23:54.:24:01.

thought Kyle from what we saw on Friday to come out today against a

:24:02.:24:05.

lower ranked player, he was absolutely fantastic, the way he

:24:06.:24:07.

prepared for the match, having commanded the points, he was

:24:08.:24:12.

unbelievable serving, and kept applying pressure on the terms, I

:24:13.:24:17.

thought it was a great performance, and even though Evans lost the first

:24:18.:24:27.

match, against Pospisil, he played it well, good fight. And an away tie

:24:28.:24:33.

again, does that make things more difficult or are you starting to

:24:34.:24:37.

enjoy life on the road? We do prefer home ties, but we had a good run at

:24:38.:24:42.

home ourselves over the last few years. It is obviously the strongest

:24:43.:24:48.

team in the competition, France, in terms of strength and depth, but we

:24:49.:24:54.

will enjoy this just now, and we will figure that one out as it comes

:24:55.:24:55.

along. SUE BARKER: Certainly not the way

:24:56.:25:00.

that Leon on the team would have wanted to win the tie, but they are

:25:01.:25:04.

through to the quarterfinals to face France away. You will be able to see

:25:05.:25:08.

that with us from the seventh to the night of April. What a dramatic

:25:09.:25:13.

conclusion to the match. We have seen defaults in the past, but never

:25:14.:25:19.

one so serious. No, that was serious, and we don't know yet

:25:20.:25:25.

exactly how the amp I's Ahye is turning out, we could see it was

:25:26.:25:29.

already closing, and we don't know about permanent damage until he sees

:25:30.:25:35.

the doctor. It was a violent end, and obviously he didn't mean to do

:25:36.:25:38.

it, but it was a devastating thing. Jamie Cullum you have seen a comment

:25:39.:25:45.

from the umpire's sister? Yes, they were on the way to the hospital to

:25:46.:25:49.

get checked out, but she said he was OK but I don't think any test had

:25:50.:25:56.

been done. And the young man, Denis Shapovalov, has released a statement

:25:57.:26:00.

where he says, I would like to begin by apologising to the umpire, the

:26:01.:26:02.

referee and all ITF officials. And we heard that straight after he

:26:03.:26:20.

went in to speak to the umpire again who was having treatment in the

:26:21.:26:25.

umpires' room. A harsh lesson, but how'd you come back from something

:26:26.:26:30.

like this? It was devastating for him, he let his country down, let

:26:31.:26:34.

himself down, and the umpire, it could have caused serious damage. He

:26:35.:26:39.

will do, he will realise that he can't do that sort of stuff again,

:26:40.:26:43.

he will get a lot of trouble in the press for this, quite rightly so, as

:26:44.:26:49.

he deserves it, but he will rebound. On the bright side, we have seen

:26:50.:26:53.

some undoubted talent in him, so if he can control it, there is nothing

:26:54.:26:55.

wrong with getting emotional, we have seen great champions get

:26:56.:27:00.

emotional, John McEnroe springs to mind, but you can't go to that

:27:01.:27:08.

extent, and he will have to curb it. There are umpires calling for more

:27:09.:27:12.

of a ban. I don't fit this story has ended yet, it will run and run.

:27:13.:27:19.

There was no sign, he hasn't been particularly bad tempered throughout

:27:20.:27:24.

the tie. Clearly having control in these high-pressure situations is so

:27:25.:27:28.

important, and this was just a freak accident. Thankfully we don't see it

:27:29.:27:33.

very often, but when we do it is pretty shocking. And what was

:27:34.:27:37.

shocking, it hit the umpire at full pace, but if the umpire had ducked,

:27:38.:27:41.

it would have hit someone in the crowd, it was going that fast. He

:27:42.:27:46.

would have got defaulted whatever happened, unless he got lucky and

:27:47.:27:49.

hit a chair or something without hitting a person, but you can't do

:27:50.:27:53.

that sort of stuff. Why didn't he hit the ball up in the air? The

:27:54.:27:58.

trajectory, it could have done serious damage. I don't know whether

:27:59.:28:04.

we want to see it again, but this is it in slow motion, and as you say,

:28:05.:28:08.

the umpire was looking down, he was about to call the score, so he

:28:09.:28:13.

wouldn't have seen anything, but you could see afterwards, he was

:28:14.:28:17.

shaking, the shock of it all. And you could see afterwards, this young

:28:18.:28:22.

man, it was a fit of rage, but I think it is going to take some time

:28:23.:28:27.

for him to get over this. Absolutely, who knows what could

:28:28.:28:30.

happen. You hate to hear this, but you could even have lawsuits,

:28:31.:28:33.

anything could happen after something like that. The first step

:28:34.:28:39.

is to hope the umpire is OK, and that will help the recovery process.

:28:40.:28:44.

Definitely, a sad end to the Davis Cup tie, and a 17-year-old learned a

:28:45.:28:49.

very harsh lesson today. We certainly wish Arnaud Gabas a speedy

:28:50.:28:54.

recovery. That is it from the Davis Cup, sorry we had to end like that,

:28:55.:28:57.

but that's it from us. Goodbye.

:28:58.:28:59.
