That's absolutely brilliant. Oh, this is getting better and better.

Chance for Ronaldo! History boys indeed. They have won the cup, they

have won the cup... And it is a hat-trick. He has done it. He has

done it! Welcome to the last Football Focus of 2016. It has been

a turbulent year but we have seen some spectacular action along the

way and we are not done yes. Middlesbrough's latest Brazilian on

a family Christmas. A thousand things on my head, like how will be

the reaction. I think it will be nice. Liverpool against Manchester

City in the top four. We have King Kenny on Klopp. He is back in the

goals, we see Alli on thousand hand shake. -- how to hand shake. We are

on the frosty training pitches of Yorkshire as Barnsley continue to

defy the odds in the Championship. We will enjoy it while we are

winning and not panic when we are losing. And all the goals and

sackings that make the festive season so special. And who better to

see the year out than with these two. For some reason wearing ties.

Trevor and Mark. Didn't get the memo. Thank you. If you're losing

track of days, we all are. The latest round of fixtures were last

night with Hull against Everton and there are seven matches today. We

are live at Burnley who play Sunderland. And Leicester try to end

their slide. At the top, Chelsea are threatening to run away with it. And

second against third in the later game as Liverpool welcome Manchester

City to Anfield. We will start at Old Trafford and familiar

surroundings for old boy Fabio, now of Middlesbrough. His twin Rafael

has been keeping him company over Christmas and they have been

speaking us to. Christmas means everything. It means family. Wins we

are kids we have been with all the family together. I get him just a

hat... Maybe... Put a hat on. I buy him a jumper. That is all. You have

come from Lyon to spend time in Middlesbrough. What was your first

Teesside Christmas like. People say, why don't you go to Brazil, you have

eleven days, I'm happy being here with my brother. It is a bit cold,

but I enjoy home at home and I play some cards with my brother. I get to

know a bit of the city as well. It was good. I bring him training as

well, make some jokes with the boys. He trained as well. Nobody knows.

Goal! How much did you know about the Brazilian players who have come

before you? I know Juninho. Emerson as well. I watched another one, I

watched him when I was young. When I arrived people always speak about

the Brazilians. A plane is reported to have crashed in Columbia. Players

from a Brazilian team were among the people on board. How hard has it

been, I know you had two friends on board the plane, one sadly died and

one survived. Now, I imagine it is still on both of your minds. I'm

happy to see the people who help Chapecoense. The club show how

humans should be like this when even helps each other. You see people

from Europe, from Asia, from every where in the world together to try

to help Chapecoense. You can see the connection in every one can help

each other. I remember everything. Me and my brother, even when we

arrived when we were kids. It will be hurtful to play there again. Two

Brazilian teenagers arriving in Manchester, quite intimidating

arriving at a club like that? At the start it was. It was the hardest

league in the world. It was even worse we have the help of Manchester

United and we have been there before and we stay a bit, a little while,

to get used to to everything. I think it worked. I think the players

helped, because we are 17 and we just arrive and United just come to

the final Champions League and win the Champions League against

Chelsea. So big names like Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, everyone, it is a bit

intimidating a boy 17 years old. How did a role did Sir Alex Ferguson

play in the settling in period. He helped us a lot. He helped my family

when I arrived. His wife sent flowers to my mum. I don't forget

that. He is a gentleman. There is no words to speak about him. You

haven't played there since you left the club, will it be strange do you

think? It is hard. I try to stop like and I go... Think about my head

what's going to be. A thousand things in my head, how they are

going to react and how I will react. I think it will be nice. It is

incredible, because I can watch the game, the first game I will be there

to watch. You have to decide who you will support? Well, I love

Manchester United and all the support... But... I will support my

brother and I want him to win. I think I will be supporting

Middlesbrough! It is the right answer to keep the family going.

Fabio is only 26 and he is part of a Middlesbrough back line, the way

they play, they have got a good defence. Yes, of the teams the I

have seen, they're the most disciplined. Special think middle

three. They -- especially the middle three. They sit in position and that

is why they're difficult to play. They leave Negredo up front. But you

could close your eyes and watch them and those seven are all in position.

That is saying something with West Brom and Burnley. He knows

Manchester United well and Manchester United fans have a new

hero who will try to break down that defence, Mkhitaryan, I know it was

offside, but he has flourished since being left out at the start of

season. I would like to have seen him flourish at the start of the

season. What an amazing player. So much creativity. So much imagination

to even think of that. But to have the skills to execute it as well. It

was offside, but what a finish. I think him in the team, they're going

to be on fire. He has set off a reaction and they have got a

position for Pogba, Carrick's in this and Zlatan up front and martial

and they look a different side. In the last two months, you know

statistics big up a big part of football, look what he has done

since the start of November, Ibrahimovic. Eight goals. He is

adding a lot to that Manchester United front line. He is. I think he

spearheaded it and has been an inspiration. The way he plays, he

always had so much confidence, now the rest of the team seem like they

have confidence. Mourinho seems to have got the right starting eleven

and formation and they seem like they have a good future. What I like

about Ibrahimovic, when he plays with the younger players and they

try and find him with a pass and it doesn't happen, he never says a word

or goe unlucky. You touched on Michael Carrick, you have been a fan

of his work and it is like professionals like Carrick. What

does he bring to this side? He brings security. If Pogba can go and

start to flourish, but I think Carrick has been a big reason for

that, because he sits back, just guards that back four and says,

enjoy yourself Paul. And he knows Carrick will probably not tackle,

but he will intercept a pass to stop it going forward and he has that

ability to slide passes that most people don't see. He passes the ball

to you where you want it, not where he wants to. He must say, listen, be

aware of him not looking at you, because the ball could land at your

feet. He is that good he can pick that pass and if you're thinking he

is playing there, you will get an unpleasant surprise. They will need

that. Middlesbrough will be difficult to break down. You have to

pull them down. This Manchester United team are divorced and

different from the team that started the season. Fabio talked of the

influence of Sir Alex Ferguson it is his 76th birthday. For Fabio? He is

doing well. Now some of the Premier League action starting with last

night's match with Hull were desperate to win against Everton.

Martin Fisher reports. It will drop and be scored by

Dawson. What a season he is having in front of the goal. That is his

fourth of the season. Three of which have come in the Premier League.

table looking like this. Hull move off the bottom, at least

until Swansea play Bournemouth later. The Ross Barkley debate, he

has been criticised by the manager and some fans, he is not a young man

now, he is 23. What does he need to move from where he is to becoming a

recognised great player? Consistency. That is what it is

about. Everyone knows his potential. We have been hearing about that for

years. In the position he plays for Everton, he should dominate more

games and at the moment not quite done it. But he has the right

manager. At first he was, it is he is going to Manchester City for 50

million. It is rubbish and for everyone that age it is not easy for

it not to turn your headches. Snodgrass has been brilliant for

Hull and they added another year to the contract of six players.

Including him. That was his sighter. He has real quality. You have seen

the first hit the bar and it was stunning. That was so close. The

second he has put it inside. Beautiful technique. Not many

players can do this. If you're a forward, forget about going for

goal, corners and free kicks, if you know that quality is coming in, you

must be excited thinking we have a free kick. Let's go and you are

going expecting the ball to go in the right area.

If they are going to stay up they've got to hang onto him. I think you'll

find they need to start winning if they want to stay up. All right,

there we go. In amongst the festive fun it's been a miserable Christmas

for the men in charge at Crystal Palace and Swansea.

No team in the entire football league has had a worse record in

2016 than Crystal Palace. Dave won just six matches this calendar year.

Crystal Palace have sacked manager Alan Pardew. Sam Allardyce has

agreed a two and a half year contract to try to get Crystal

Palace out of this mess. I hope I can bring some joy, particularly

over Christmas and New Year. It is a point for Sam Allardyce in his first

game as Crystal Palace manager. Did you enjoy the cut and thrust of a

match situation again? I've never enjoyed a game in my life as a

manager so I am not going to start now. Bob Bradley says his future

could depend on what happens today. We are our own worst enemy. No

matter how we start again we seem to find a way to get down. More misery

for Bob Bradley. We are in such a rut. In the Premier League you pay

the price. Huge boos ringing out. Swansea City have sacked Bob

Bradley. It was a big punt, it was always going to be a big ask to keep

Swansea up. STUDIO: 85 days in charge, no transfer window, if there

was a button with the word panic on it, Swansea have pressed it. It

doesn't seem to pan out. I don't know what the club and owners are

doing. To get rid of Guidolin and bring in somebody with no experience

of the Premier League with no transfer window, I cannot understand

it. This probably goes back 18 months. This club, when they got in

the Premier League, they were so well run, well organised. Will use

to talk about it. Absolutely. The standard for many clubs promoted,

buying clubs they could make better, so on and replace. What they've done

in the last 18 months I don't know. At once they sold Ashley Williams at

the start the season, and we get his age and we that Everton paid good

money, but he was the dressing room, the leader and organiser and

absolutely everything. Since that day it has all come tumbling down.

And Ayew got the opening goal. The things that annoys fans, things like

the story about Joe Allen they could have signed him, apparently he was

looking at houses in Swansea, then he goes to Stoke. Going back to

Ayew, that was always going to happen, Centre forward going back to

his old club, always going to score. For Joe Allen to be scratching

around thinking, is it going to happen, and waiting and waiting and

taking Stoke on the back burner because he had to. Listen, he's a

Swansea lad, he loves Wales, and sure he would have loved to have

gone back there. For them not to get their ducks in order is a joke. What

we don't know, Stoke might have given him more money. But just

looking at the managers, I would take Gary row it in a heartbeat

straightaway, I cannot believe he was sacked at Birmingham City, it

was a disgrace. What he did at Burton with no money, what he did at

Birmingham with no money. It looks like Swansea might get relegated,

and who better than Gary Rowett? He knows the division, give him more

money, they have a chance of coming back. I liked the analogy about this

one getting their ducks in a row. What about Crystal Palace? Big Sam

starts with a draw and they know what they are getting. I heard

somebody say when he got the job, he will avoid relegation. He'll be

halfway up the league because they have got players in place. He's

great in the January transfer window as everybody knows. And I think this

is the easiest job he's had. In terms of joining a relegation

threatened team this is the easiest job he's had. To reiterate, Palace

are guaranteed to stay in the Premier League? Correct. And if it

doesn't happen, Trevor said it. OK. Allardyce's old team Sunderland were

dealt a blow with the news that Jordan Pickford picked up a serious

injury in the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United on Boxing Day. We

can show you where it happened, Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal, a clash

with his own player on his knee. Went down at the time and could be

out for some period of time, too. The first game he will miss is

against Burnley at Turf Moor today. We can get the latest from there.

Hello. The interesting thing for Sunderland is that they probably

already had the longest injury list of any team in the Premier League

anyway. So the last thing they needed was an absentee as

significant as Jordan Pickford. But at least they've got Vito Mannone,

who himself was injured, lost his place when he got back fit because

Pickford was playing so well, so at least they have a ready-made

replacement. The number of absent players is only going to get worse

because the Africa cup of Nations gets underway in a few weeks' time

and they will lose three more players on January two, and they are

still trying to negotiate to see whether those players will be

available for the Liverpool game. But that three players to add to the

three or four, including Pickford, who will be out for a minimum of the

next two months or so. They are stretched to the limit. The

substitutes, the bench at Old Trafford, there were three or four

young players who rarely had an appearance between them other than

in the League Cup. So he has got a lot of problems, David Moyes, in

terms of just literally getting people out on to the park. Now, if

that's not depressing enough, they have already been conversations that

have taken place saying they have not got many funds available in

January to supplement what they've got. One or two of their players,

Jermain Defoe most significantly, linked with a move away. Sounds like

such a depressing end to the season but I can give Sunderland fans want

little piece of news. They were ahead of where they were this time

one year ago, albeit Sam Allardyce had just been put in charge and

started to turn things around. Burnley can move nine points clear

today. Even though Jeff Hendrick is suspended, you have to say things

are going well for them. Thank you. Those rumours about players coming

in and out, Jordan Pickford is one David Moyes was thinking about

selling to get more money in because he is so highly rated. I don't think

David Moyes wants to sell him. But you know what I mean. I think the

owners lost interest in the club. Pretty certain if he had a decent

offer he would sell. So why is he going to spend money in the

meantime? Add that to the injuries and you are in a bit of a mass. The

only thing is, where there is hope, there is Defoe, he might just get

you enough goals. I know the world and his wife would want to take on

but I don't see him leaving Sunderland. And you can follow that

match on final score this afternoon. Trevor pulling a double shift for

that today. Alex Bruce also joining Jason Timmis Judeo.

Time for some more goals. On Tuesday Liverpool tried to keep some

pressure on Chelsea at the top as they took on Stoke at Anfield.

COMMENTATOR: Liverpool all in red, Stoke all in sky blue. And it's into

the net exclamation marks Stoke have taken the lead! Jon Walters has put

them in front. Blocked by the goalkeeper. I did not have the

feeling, that's it. Goodness, cleared off the line. He is now

have equalised. Liverpool still on the attack. And into the net, and

Liverpool, having been a goal down 90 seconds before half-time, are now

2-1 in front. Plays it in, and inches wide of the post. Henderson

takes it up. And it's 3-1 Liverpool. And Liverpool now have the 2-goal

cushion, 15 minutes into the second half. The third goal was fantastic.

A Christmas present. And Shawcross plays it back, Sturridge is in

there. 4-1. Horrendous mistake. Daniel Sturridge has been on the

field and minute and scored certainly the winning goal for

Liverpool. 4-1. The hundreds that has been scored since you have been

Klopp's men face Manchester City and Lawro has been to see what one of

Liverpool 's finest thinks. Kenny Dalglish was the best player I ever

played with. COMMENTATOR: Yes! Kenny Dalglish. He could run. He had a big

well. That are going really well since Jurgen Klopp has come in, the

whole atmosphere the 14 months he has been there is fantastic. It has

come back. A bit of Shanks in there? I know everybody has to label him.

Label him as Jurgen. He is his own man. It was different when Shanks

was there, when we went in afterwards we were lucky, we just

filled in a hole that somebody left, but he's had to start further back

than us. It does feel very much like it used to be. Stevie G has come

back and stopped playing, do you envisage a role for him at the club?

I think he has aspirations to get into football, maybe wants to go

slowly and then get a managerial position. If he's got the appetite

there will be roles for him at the club, even if it's at the academy.

He's a true and assassin to the football club. But the will decide

that. Looking back, the other thing, how difficult was it going from

player to manage a? Is the best part. The managerial site... I just

loved playing. You know yourself what the terrible

place the dressing room is for a wind-up, you know what is coming.

You are going to get it. Aye. I remember Joe Fagan said it was the

hardest job in the world. You've got people to help you but you still

feel a little isolated at times. The players were dirty and, they just

went along with it. And Rush is on the far side. Is this very? It is.

Liverpool and their manager Kenny Dalglish have become only the third

team to win the marvellous double in the same season. It was in a

believable season. To turn that around a little bit too year ago,

when you were manager first time, how important was it to win the

first trophy -- to turn it round to Jurgen Klopp. Trophies are important

for the supporters. When we won this and got that. He is not far away

from a trophy. He knows he's good at his job, everybody who supports

Liverpool knows he's good at his job. He is fantastic for the

football club and I think the football club is a great fit for

him. Fortunately they have each other.

STUDIO: A ringing endorsement from Kenny Dalglish. Obviously these two

managers know each other's well from the Bundesliga. You just hope,

sometimes these big games have let us down, will we see a classic here?

The Manchester United game was typical of what you are saying. But

both these managers, it's not about defending, it's about entertaining,

playing expansive football and going for the jugular. Whoever turns up to

night and is better in the final third will win the game. Adam

Lallana we have talked about on a fewer occasions, but why is he

thriving so much under Jurgen Klopp? The next or neighbour has probably

helped. Yeah, yeah, he brings his milk in for him. He's probably the

fittest he has ever been and not just him but the whole Liverpool

squad. I think he's the fittest of the fittest as well. Now you've got

an end product, you've got goals, assists. He's obviously full of

confidence. There might be an argument he might be the best player

around at the moment from August through to December, not too many

would be better I would have thought. camaraderie, He has been

improving year after year since he started in the Premier League. I

think the Southampton fans, I'm not talking about the fans that watch

the first teem, but people who watched him play youth football have

been waiting for this to happen. They know he has had more in the

locker. He is starting to do that consistently. He is the player that

Liverpool thought they had bought. When he came he didn't feature much.

If Jurgen Klopp has matched him well, what about the Daniel

Sturridge situation? Better. He is a fantastic talent, but he has not won

the crowd over. Not like, looking at Mane he has been there two minutes

and they love him. Daniel's not captivated the Anfield faithful. But

now he has found his role, he is coming off the bench and having an

impact and he is not spitting the dummy out or saying I'm not playing.

He is coming in, playing his part and being positive and Jurgen Klopp

has done a great job with him. In the term manager you have got to

manage, that what is he has done with Sturridge and he doesn't get

any best starting eleven and he is saying, until the day comes when I

know I can rely on you over a period of weeks and months, you're not

going to start. But what a fantastic weapon for 20 minutes at the end. I

think Daniel is improving. He is pressing. When he is good enough at

doing that, he will play. What about City today? Aguero is back he has

played havoc with people's fantasy teams. I had him as captain. What

about Yaya Toure, is that a big decision to play him? I think he

does. With his, the size of him he has that physical presence. If

someone, we all know Liverpool will press, if the ball comes to Yaya

Toure and he is pressed he won't panic, he is six foot four and he

will pass it when he is ready. Give him some cake and send him out! Dear

me! Can anyone catch Chelsea. It is more than three months since they

lost a Premier League game and the records keep coming. Chelsea pleased

to see the back of September. Can he get the shot away? Chelsea take the

lead. Comfortable victory for Chelsea. Antonio Conte on top. Not

in their wildest dreams did Chelsea think it would be so easy. Brilliant

goal from Diego Costa. Magnificent, monumental master class by Chelsea.

His sixth successive Premier League win for Antonio Conte's Chelsea.

Moses scores. A difficult match. And an important victory. Chelsea have

turned it around. What a second half performance this has been. Chelsea

going for that ninth league win in a row. Sensational goal. Brilliant

play from Diego Costa. Fabregas... Brilliantly well taken. That is far

too simple a goal. Brilliantly put away by Pedro. It is 12 in a row.

They are good. A club record 12 wins in a row and Stoke visitors today.

Motty is there for us. Hello Mr Motson. It is all right, I'm a bit

nervous, the last time I was on, I had Mark Lawrenson complaining about

his coat. As he has tone an excel -- done an excellent interview with

Kenny Dalglish, I will soften him up. I some people thought I

exaggerated Chelsea's quality in that game. But from what has

happened, I may have been justified, but we won't get into that too much,

because today if they win their 13th game in a row, they have equalled

the record in the Premier League in the same season. Arsenal went into

14, but that included a match at the start of the season after. Diego

Costa and Kante are back from suspension. Pedro is out. And

talking of suspensions, this is the last day that you can get your fifth

yellow card and miss a game. And that means that Luiz in particular

is walking on a tightrope. He is on four. If he gets booked, he will not

play in the big match at White Hart Lane. That is maybe by John Terry is

back in the squad. For Stoke, Mark Hughes, he knows Chelsea Re well,

but they don't have a good record at Stamford Bridge. No, neither does

he. Two draws and nine defeats in eleven visits as a manager. Although

Mark did play if you remember in the Chelsea team that won the FA Cup

back in 1997. I can't believe by the way that is 20 years ago. Stoke's

record is not great here. You have shown their defeat at Liverpool and

talked about Joe Allen. The person I would match is Charlie Adam. It was

here where he scored that goal from the centre circle two years ago. One

of the most memorable goals in Premier League history. You would

like me to finish with a mystic statistic! Here is one for you, in

Chelsea's 12 match winning run, only one opponent has scored against

them. Work that one out. Who is he? There you go. What are you asking us

for? He has dropped a bomb there. To go back to what Motty said, for the

wins, Arsenal got 14 in a row when you add in one at the start of

season. But they're brilliant to watch. Yes, organised, disciplined,

but then when they go and attack, the tempo they do and the quality,

it is good to watch. I think they have got a system that suits the

players. I think, this is why they have a chance, they can play

relatively poorly and win. What difference does when you have an

individual like Hazard, who arguably playing better than two years ago

when he was Player of the Year. The thing about him, he plays more

inside, as does Pedro, to allow the wing-backs to get further forward.

Once you come and play inside, Trevor will know, you come inside

and the pitch is bigger. Completely bigger. But he has been fantastic.

Eyes with the penalty. That is confidence. He is playing the game

in third gear. He is enjoying his football. I agree, he is probably

better than two years ago. He understand what is the Premier

League is about and when he is going to going to be expected to get a

whack and how to ride the challenges and he may not have got that in

France. I think he has matured as a player. Sometimes when you have had

disappointment, which last season for Chelsea was a disappointment,

listen, you come back and you get all your full strengths and you

playing to the top of your ability, it feels a lot better. But they have

not won the league yet. Half way. Maybe we are getting carried away.

Yes. They can win games when they don't play well. Whether they play

well or not, they're not conceding a lot and that is important. Talking

of winning runs, we must mention The New Saints in Wales. They beat Cefn

-- - Cefn Druids to beat the record of Ajax from the 1970s. Chelsea have

away to go and they're at White Hart Lane on Wednesday to face Tottenham

who beat Southampton in midweek. A curling free kick and van Dijk

scores for Southampton. His third goal of the campaign. What a poor

start for Tottenham. Sissoko's cross and Alli's header. 18 minutes gone

and it is 1-1. J Eriksen with the corner and it is in. A flying

header. It is one of their own. It is Harry Kane. He has fed in and

rode the challenge and stuck it wide. It will be a penalty. A red

Eriksen, the other goal was in the Manchester City game was an own goal

for Alli after just 50 appearances for the Tottenham first team. So we

went to find out what makes him tick.

Your king of the nutmegs, why do you love them so much? I don't know.

Growing up I played a lot in the streets and nutmegs were sort of a

big part of that. People got nutmegged, you got to punch them in

the arm. A dead arm. So I think I kept it in my game. You do secret

nutmegs as well. That would really wiped me up. I have to do it when

they're not not. I liked the one on England. You know. Eric Dier, you

have a bromance, this love affair. How did you become friends what,

cemented that love? Well I joined and he was one of the first people I

connected with. He was always talking and we started playing

midfield together. I thought, what is this guy doing? . It is another

genius move by the manager. You're so mean to him sometimes. Yeah he is

like my big brother and I have to wind him up. He said today I looked

like I was going to school. But it you love each other? Yes we do, love

is a strong word, but we like each other. You have a special hand shake

you do. I have a lot of hand shakes. How did this start? I don't know.

Can we do a special football focus hand shake? Mine is Sonny's is like

this and like this and like this. Like paper. Rock, paper scissors.

you're still young yourself. Do you feel any pressure that there are

nine and ten-year-olds who have their name on your back and want to

be you? No, I enjoy it. It is a thing that comes with the job and

something I thrive on. I'm still 20, but I accept the responsibilities I

have now in this position. I'm grateful for everything I have got.

And I have got to carry on and hopefully make them happy. Where are

you going to be in five years time do you think? Five years? When you

think about how much happened in one year. But just to be the best player

can I, I know it is a cliche, you can't look too far into the future.

Sensational, especially when you look at the names he has been put up

alongside. For me he is an absolute gazelle of an athlete, he's got

great technique. One of the biggest thing is he's got going for him,

he's got that experience of playing 100 games plus in the lower

divisions which puts him in a different sphere at the moment. The

experience he's got, he feels comfortable what he's doing at

Tottenham, and I think he will go from strength to strength. When you

look at what he has done in a year since leaving MK Dons, it's

frightening to think where he might be in five. The thing I like about

him beside the obvious, he's edgy. You don't mind that? I love it.

He'll put his foot in, you can whack him, he'll whack you back. For me

all the top players have had that and have got that. Healthy for Spurs

that Leicester City potentially could sleepwalk into a full-blown

relegation battle. They've got a 3-point cushion at the moment but

with games coming thick and fast at this time of year dependent on

results, things could change very quickly. We've only rarely seen

printers of what Leicester City are capable of, notably recently the 4-2

victory over Manchester City. Overall things are not going

terribly well and perhaps not the happiest of ships at the moment.

With Riyad Mahrez been dropped the other day, the manager clearly

coming out afterwards and saying he once more from the player. Leicester

should have enough to get out of the situation they are in or to make

sure they are safe, of course everyone says that. But the reality

is they are where they are because they are losing too many matches. If

they win today it would take them on to 20 points, only halfway towards

what is supposedly that magic safety line of 40 points. He needs to speak

to Slaven Bilic to find out what a difference a win makes. Absolutely,

West Ham had been following a similar path to Leicester City,

decidedly underwhelming. They managed to get a 2-2 draw and won

their last three games and suddenly the world looks a different place to

West Ham. When they beat Hull they did not play well. A Man of the

Match that day was the post. It did save them on more than one occasion.

But they got the job done. One other thing I would say about West Ham, in

the last month they've got Andy Carroll fit again and he has been

starting up front for the past few games and I just think that gives

them an added focal point when they are pushing forward. So I think his

presence has helped. The key now and the difficult bit perhaps based on

past evidence is keeping him fit. A problem for many managers over the

years. We'll talk about Andy Carroll in a moment. The decision to drop

Riyad Mahrez, how considerable is that when you think about what a

great player he was for them? It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter

what you've done in the past, it's what you are doing in the present.

That's the whole thing about football. This time last year we

were all debating whether Leicester City could win the league and we all

said they couldn't. Now we are saying, could they be relegated. We

all say no they can't, but they could. It's such, nation of many

different things. They are so easy to score against. One or two have

got nice big fat contracts and while they shouldn't you might take your

eye off the ball a bit, literally. And I think, is there any Leicester

City player playing at the moment who is performing to the same

standard as he was last year? I think the answer to that would be

no. I have to agree, and you look at the goal they conceded against

Everton, ridiculous. That is just switching off as a defender or as

defenders, not concentrating while you are attacking, ball watching.

That never happened to Morgan last year. These are just fundamental

defending errors that would never happen last year and have started

creeping into Leicester City's game. If they continue that, not doing the

basics well, they are going to be in trouble. No doubt in my mind they

will be in the relegation dogfight. And add that to the fact they were

scoring goals out of nothing last year and that's not the same again.

Looking at that about Riyad Mahrez, laughing on the bench, that does not

sit well with me. So good last season, but him laughing on the

bench when he's not playing, it doesn't sit well with me. Andy

Carroll will be off the bench. And he does make a difference to any

team he plays in. I've listened to some sound bites from his team-mates

saying he is really back, fit, and enjoying his football. And listen,

when you've got him up there, he can put a quality delivery into the box.

Seen him score with the left foot. But if you put anything in the air

he is a bully and he will dominate. All their good players are back,

aren't they? They've got Payet, Ayew, Antonio, no ball, Cresswell,

they are starting to look like a good side. And they take on

Manchester City in Pep Guardiola's first-ever FA Cup tie.

Aston Villa moved up to ninth in the championship on Thursday, drawing

with Leeds, jumping above Barnsley, who play Birmingham City this

afternoon. The Tykes have been enjoying a great run under Paul

Higginbotham. A man born in the town, been a season ticket holder,

player, now the head coach. We paid him a visit.

think about it until you get asked about it or somebody throws a

statistic about the year and things like that. It's been all right. I

don't know, I think everybody must be the same, if you sit back and

think about that you are not thinking about your job. To go from

the cusp of League 1 relegation zone to the cusp of the championship

play-offs, you must see the journey? Yeah. And in all honesty I had to

sort of remind myself of that at some point. You start expecting too

much. It's their team and we just set the standards and push them to

be as good as they can be. One of the big things about success is you

have to get them to buy in. They have to believe in what they are

doing. One thing that can do that is results. So what you are telling

them to do is working. Just ride that wave and get them to do it even

more. How about dealing with the powers on top? Is that a challenge

you enjoy? One thing I have got with the owner at Barnsley, we both

Barnsley people. Yeah, we get in rows because why wouldn't you? But

we are comfortable doing that and as soon as we walk out the door we have

both got the best interests of Barnsley at heart and we fight tooth

and nail to make it happen. Are you very different to the person who was

development manager at assisting the first-team? You are probably better

asking them. I wouldn't be doing my job unless I did. I've never done

this before, right? Ask a player about the gaffer with the gaffer

actually there. What I want to know is, has he changed much since he

took the top job, is he a different person? No, but I would say one

thing, last year his Christmas dinner was from Tesco, this year it

is from Marks Spencer, so he's gone up. Is that right? You got off
