flying. Up to 6th place already. The crowd will be enjoying that.

Making demands. Sebastian Vettel, let's have a look at that start. In

the secondary phase of the start he just got so much more traction.

Then they all filter through behind, no contact. We have the Ferrari

looking down the inside. We go on board with Sebastian Vettel. The

perfect start. It hooks up and off he goes. They would be using KERS

of course. Let's take a look at Lewis Hamilton. Looking to put

himself on the inside for that corner. Struggling for traction.

And every play there, Hamilton taking Jensen Button McFall the 5th

place. Massa had already gone through. You're doing a fantastic

job, next up is Massa. encouragement for Lewis Hamilton

from his Engineer. That tells us a little about how delicate the they

think they have to treat Lewis Hamilton when he is in the car.

tyres. So he could be the first to go off. But we are always saying

me --? We have Fernando Alonso right up behind Mark Webber. Trying

to position the car. And Kobayashi weekend with all their trials and

tribulations. Lewis Hamilton on the back of Massa. Good news for the

British fans in that Lewis Hamilton in that last lap was able to equal

the lap time of Sebastian Vettel. Michael Schumacher and is in for a

set of the soft tyres. And Mark Webber, Hamilton and Massa go to

look for any moisture. Massa taking the long way round to get better

traction. And Lewis Hamilton has to duck into his slip Stream. Lewis

Hamilton getting very impatient. Challenging conditions at

Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. Massa desperately trying to

keep the Ferrari on the black stuff. And Alonso just slips slightly back

from Mark Webber. Going very wide there on the entry to that corner.

And here is a replay of that incident between Schumacher and

Kobayashi. He did not expect Kobayashi to come back on to the

racing line. No question that that is a misjudgment from Michael. They

have done a few of those knows and Kamui Kobayashi have been in

the pits. He is two seconds down in the middle sector, Michael

Schumacher. It looks as though Michael Schumacher is losing time,

but he is quickest in the first and last sectors. You have got Jenson

Button on new slick tyres, as is Felipe Massa,... No, he is still on

the old tyres. He has got no grip! He has got no grip. He will have

Tippett. He can barely drive it. Lewis Hamilton, the tyres have

finished, and Michael Schumacher gets the fastest lap of the race,

Alonso was held up. Lewis Hamilton has been released ahead of Felipe

Massa. The front tyres did not look too bad. He thinks his way around a

racetrack. He is so kind to the car, while being so fast. He is setting

the benchmark for Formula One right now. He has the best car in the

field, and he is making best use of it. In the fastest lap, Jenson

Button, 1:46.0. He likes these conditions, he won the Canadian

Grand Prix in exactly these kind of changeable conditions. There is an

investigation for an unsafe pit- stop grimace. -- release. There

will be a penalty for Kamui Kobayashi. Jenson Button has done

one already, he knows exactly what Woodcote. It is just too fast, too

wet off-line. This is costing Jenson Button time. It has got to

make sure he is well positioned for the run-down Hangar Straight. Take

advantage of the heat in his tyres. He will have to go off the try-line.

-- try-line. Lewis Hamilton on the back of Fernando Alonso. Jenson

Button, can he handed around? -- hang it around? Jenson Button gets

to the apex, and he goes through Club corner. He is coming back into

the race after the awful first Stent. That reminds me of Nigel

Mansell, brave stuff. He goes to the outside, he uses the momentum

of the slipstream. At this point, too would have expected him to back

out, but he keeps his full turn. -- he keeps his foot in. Fernando

Alonso comes under pressure from will recognise that any time since.

Alonso will get a better drive through Club. They are not the best

of friends after they year as team- mates and McLaren. Fernando Alonso

is not thinking about that, he is thinking he can win the Grand Prix,

he is the fastest man. Lewis Hamilton coming under increasing

pressure from the Ferrari. I think we are about to see a pass from the

Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton wiggled, then gave up the position, because

he could not go to the inside. the real wind zone, it has a new

meaning when there is only one try line. -- rear wing zone. Fernando

Alonso retakes third place in the Grand Prix. Let's see what he can

do with Mark Webber. P of picking up plumes of spray. Sebastian

McLaren are getting ready. Lewis Hamilton. He comes into the pits,

deciding he does not like these things. They only travelled 11 laps.

Presumably they will put another set of soft tyres on. None of the

top 10 had a bright new set of soft tyres available. Presumably, he

will absolutely fly. Fernando Alonso makes a new fastest lap of

the race. He is just seven seconds off the lead. Paul di Resta pits

for Force India. The overheating engine of Kamui Kobayashi. I wonder

if he was damaged in the pit stop incident. He ran into a heavy think.

And, he had the incident with Michael Schumacher. This will be

interesting to see how much faster Lewis Hamilton will be. This will

be valuable information to Red Bull get out there, and make quiet, fast

laps. He does not like to come into the pits very often. He does a fine

job. Fernando Alonso, 38.4. Red Bull, 1:38.8. Fernando Alonso is

still the man on the move. 6.7 seconds behind the leader. He is on

fire. Paul di Resta comes in for a pit-stop. They are having to bring

another set of tyres. I wonder if they were Adrian Sutil's tyres.

This has ruined his race. Jenson Button and Felipe Massa coming in

as well. Fernando Alonso still has loads of grip left. That is very

stop one more time. This will be fascinating, the last few laps of

this race. Who pits one, and how long they can stretch. The lap

times at the moment are some way down on what we saw last year. We

have got a delaminated tyre. complex. You have to go about

walking pace. That is the first part of Becketts. We have got Paul

di Resta looking to the inside. Sebastien bore any comes across.

of Sebastien bonnet. -- Sebastien Buemi. Fernando Alonso follows the

leader in. Sebastien Buemi's car will be in shreds. Red Bull, the

left rear has not gone on. Sebastian Vettel has some serious

work to do now. Lewis Hamilton is through. Lewis Hamilton flying.

Fernando Alonso leads from Lewis Hamilton. Suddenly, Red Bull back

in third and fourth place. Ted Kravitz? The mechanics of having a

look at the wheel nut. Time was ticking away, they were trying to

sort out the cross the road. This is brilliant! We are going to have

a great race! Fernando Alonso was the fastest man. I would have loved

to have seen Fernando Alonso behind Sebastian Vettel and having a go.

He had the pace. But this was just a straightforward pit-stop past.

Hamilton recognised that, moved over just to cut him off a little

bit. He has got to beat a little bit careful that he does not do too

many moves, not too much change of direction. Fernando Alonso out in

front. 6.8 seconds clear of Hamilton. Building a healthy eat. -

- a healthy lead. Michael Schumacher is pretty fast as well.

Out on the wet grass, you do not like that feeling! This time he is

much closer, Hamilton having to go on the outside. Sebastian Vettel

thinks better of it and again loses a lot of time. Yours Hamilton does

not want that Red Bull in front of him. -- Lewis Hamilton. It is so

interesting, the pace of the Red Bull through that complex. It

suggests that the Red Bull has better low-speed performance than

the McLaren. Sebastian Vettel is into the pit. That will leave him

15 laps to do to the end of the race. They are putting on his final

set of the soft tyres. That is quite Strategic. He needs a clean

pair. He is being held up behind that McLaren. They need to try to

change that strategy. I think he also damaged the tyres. Euros down

force behind another car. So they have called him in. -- you lose

downforce. David, d'you think this is now just about Racing McLaren?

We can see how close Sebastian Vettel cot. -- got. This is at

silly -- absolutely the racing line. A huge amount of time lost there.

But they have got to the lead of this race by merit. On board with

Lewis Hamilton. A garage of 22 men. But it is not going to be good

enough. It shows the difference in pace between the fresher set of

tyres and what Lewis Hamilton was able to do on that last lap. So why

then would you not picked as early as possible all the time? You only

have so many sets of tyres available. Jensen, box to overtake

Mark Webber. So that gives their game away. And this could be

interesting. I wonder if Ferrari will play Massa tactically? He is

getting towards the end of his stint on the tyres. Sebastian

Vettel is the fastest man on the entire Grand Prix in the first

sector. But it keeps closing in on Mark Webber. Just one second behind.

-- button. They would otherwise thing, they will cover McLaren.

McLaren did not come in. And where they are expecting Jensen Button to

come in? There perhaps trying to dummy Red Bull. Mark Webber just

clears the traffic. Sebastian Vettel right up behind Massa. It

depends how quickly he can get through. Taking no prisoners here.

That is as simple move for Sebastian Vettel. And that now

releases in beautifully to head off. He can still win this race for

himself. Fernando Alonso, this needs to be the best pit-stop they

have ever done. He had a good advantage of about 11 seconds

remember. Jensen Button has come in as well. Let us see where Alonso

Leeds back in. Quite a long way ahead of Sebastian battle. He has

lost drive coming out of the end of the pit lane! The engine is running.

He is in neutral. The team have said there has been a problem and

have told him to stop. I think they are missing both wheel nut. I think

so. He pulls in and stops perfectly. The current level of fuel-saving is

not enough, we need to do some more to get to the end of the race.

the penalty for wood, which would be tough in the extreme. Lewis

Hamilton desperately wants to be on the podium in front of the British

fans but he has got his work cut out. Massa coming back at him now

in its 5th place. Sebastian Vettel will have to settle for second

place at the moment. He has no answer to Fernando Alonso and

Ferrari. Hamilton asked to be a sitting duck. He has been given the

message to save fuel. Poor Jensen Button. He has such a magnificent

CD that cannot get any luck here at Silverstone, cannot get on the

podium. Just take it easy. McLaren guys said they were coming in and

they did not come in. And Mark Webber's Engineer and telling him

not to be fooled, the McLaren team could be bluffing.

Down in to block plans corner. -- Brooklands corner. This looks like

a video game! Look at the discarded rubber on the side of the race

track. Do not make it easy for them, but we do need to get to the end of

the race. Lewis Hamilton will be fuming. He is going to be limited

in what he can do. When we were doing that jet ski pistes, Hamilton

really jumped on that jet ski. He just looked up the water. But

unfortunately he is low on petrol today. Does he have the widest car

on the circuit? He is going to need it to keep Mark Webber behind.

How quickly Mark Webber had to make his decision. He went to the

outside. Remember last year when Alonso thought he could still win

it. It could be more of the same stay there? It will be in engine

saving mode, I would have thought. One second behind now. 1.1 quicker,

Mark Webber, the fastest man on the track. The gap between Felipe Massa

and Lewis Hamilton is 1.7. The Red Bull cars like a stern. Sebastian

Vettel calling his tyres. Will Mark Webber Paul the pass? -- pull the

fighting for red. This is a proper scrap for second place. Sebastian

Vettel going quite defensive. Mark Webber, the fastest man in the

first sector for the entire race. He would love to take second place

from Sebastian Vettel. There is no question, having won last year, he

knows he needs to finish in front of Sebastian Vettel to turn his

season around. Fernando Alonso is already into the final lap. The Red

Bull cars finished the penultimate lap. Felipe Massa is on the back of

Lewis Hamilton. So much action in the closing moments of this

wonderful Grand Prix. This is Felipe Massa on Lewis Hamilton. We

have no idea what the podium order is going to be, except Fernando

Alonso will be standing on the top step. There are no team orders in

can he get into the slipstream? needed to see that! Felipe Massa is

in the same position. Sebastian Vettel is still in second place.

Felipe Massa has not been able to pass Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton

hanging on to fourth place. Will Mark Webber have enough energy down

the final run? RADIO: We need to maintain the gap. There are team

orders now. Fernando Alonso wins the British Grand Prix. His 27th

victory, the first for Ferrari since last year. He joins Jackie

Stewart on 27 wins. Mark Webber has been told, stay behind him. He is

not paying too much attention to that. Sebastian Vettel finishes

second. There is contact! Niqab Lewis Hamilton get back? Yes! Lewis

Hamilton gets it. Lewis Hamilton bullies him out of the way. Lewis

Hamilton came up the inside. Firm contact. Lewis Hamilton entitled to

fight his corner. Choir would love to see another angle of that. -- I

would love to see. The director did not know which to follow there, but

I am pretty sure there was contact. Great defensive driving from Lewis

Hamilton, and a good comeback from Felipe Massa. It is all locked up.

A broken front wing it, but so what? Synchronised drifting,

synchronised touching. They are trying to keep their cars pointing

in the right direction. Felipe Massa has gone down the outside,

the get a Thumper from Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton comes up

the inside. Felipe Massa fighting to as he crosses the Astroturf. A

clear fourth place in the end for Lewis Hamilton. RADIO: A fantastic

day, very good. Fantastic day. Fernando Alonso wins the British

Grand Prix in spectacular style. Red Bull still very much their in

second and third, with Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. The sweet

It was unbelievable to win here. We were 1.5 seconds behind Red Bull

for races ago, and now we are fighting with them. Especially at

Silverstone, it was one of the circuits that we fear, because of

the characteristics of the corners suitings Red Bull. It is a special

when. A nice surprise, and a huge motivation for us. Mark Webber

tried to pass me. We did not put on a show. It was real racing. From my

point of view, he did not find his way through. I am sure he would

have loved to have passed, but that is what racing is about. From 18 a

the most important thing is that they finish the race. You were told

to maintain the gap. Is that fair? I was not happy with that. When you

have guys on the radio, talking to you about things, when you are

fighting for second place,... You do not know, Fernando Alonso might

stop, so then you are fighting for the victory. At the end, with 20

laps to go, I had to save fuel. Massively. I had to give Mark

Webber the position. Under last lap, they said, now you can push, and I

said, thanks! I was not giving up that position, no way. What a

disappointing end. Yes! When did you first realise? It is when I

headed out, I turned up the hill, the wheel came off. Very

disappointing. We all make mistakes. You hope they never happen.

Disappointing, because it is in front of the home crowd, and I was

enjoying the race. The pace was very good. I caught up with Lewis

Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. I stayed out for one more

lap, and it was looking pretty sweet. I got a call to come to the

pits. There was not a set of tyres. Then it was the wrong tyres. All in

all, I lost about 25 seconds, and that is crucial, especially when

you all going aggressively. Other guys were making fewer pit stops.

It was all over. It was some race, Fernando Alonso

feels what it is like to win the British Grand Prix, and David

Coulthard did that twice. Fernando Alonso finished at the front, but

that was another exciting, dramatic, unpredictable race. His, mixed

conditions, half the track was wet, 1/2 oz dried. -- 1/2 or strive.

Ferrari's pace was genuine, they came with some upgrades, diffuser

changes, and in the end, a small hiccup from Red Bull, and Fernando

Alonso took a fairly easy victory. Fernando Alonso did not really need

to fight, because for the first time this year, Red Bull had some

chinks in their armour. No season will be completely flawless, it is

a fast-moving business, the pit stop is a perfect example. The team

has to change the tyres within three or four seconds. They failed

with Sebastian Vettel. You cannot have all of the look of the time.

Another issue for Red Bull, telling Mark Webber to preserve the gap at

the end of the race. Interesting to see the public reaction. The

majority of people, understandably, would like to imagine the drivers

will race to the chequered flag. But the team principal has put

forward a good explanation, his responsibility is to make sure they

get the maximum amount of points that they can. In this case, he

said to the drivers, you must pole position. The British drivers,

three of them started in the top 10, and be one of them finished in the

top 10. Forceful driving a from Lewis Hamilton, he made a brilliant

start, it looked as though he would be able to finish on the podium,

but the pace was not good enough. They had under fuelled the car, and

he was defenceless to allow Mark Webber to overtake him. Jenson

Button had a problem at the pit stop, and he had to retire. Paul di

Resta ended up out of the points, after having a disastrous pit stop.

All in all, another first-time winner for this season, Fernando
