the victory. Lewis Hamilton has done it. That was a devastating

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 61 seconds

performance. What a race. Round 16: Seasons blend into one another. The

teams, fans and the drivers are always looking to the future. But

sometimes, some things -- something happens that this special that

deserves a reflection on a special snapshot in time. To win the

championship here is fantastic. I mean, there are so many things you

wanted to say in this moment, but it is hard to remember all of them.

The chance to crown Sebastian Vettel as world champion. He has

broken records throughout his career. Or will we see another

broken today? Are you playing the percentage game more going for

glory? For glory. That is why we are here. You are the 2011 world

champion, well done. I am just so, so thankful to everyone in the team

and it is great to receive -- are to have achieved the goal that we

set ourselves going into this year. This is the Hall of fame you are

joining. Back-to-back Formula One world champions. The incomparable

Alain Prost. Ayrton Senna... Michael Schumacher will be world

champion. A big attacker then... Alonso and his world champion...

And that incredible weekend in Japan mean Sebastian Vettel is the

new Formula One world champion but don't think for one moment there is

no incentive for the men gathered behind me, the current drivers in

Formula One. They are desperate to prove they have what it takes to

pick up a win before now at the end of the season. Just a few races

until the end of 2011. This weekend, we are racing at the newest track

in Formula One but in two weeks' time, that will no longer be the

case when India joined the fun at the end of October. We will be

partying in Delhi and then it is off to Abu Dhabi before the season

ends in Brazil at the end of November. What a long and

successful season for Sebastian Vettel. That gap at the top cannot

be bridged, which means Sebastian Vettel is the new Formula One world

champion. It is between Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and Mark

Webber and Lewis Hamilton for second. In the constructors battle,

Red Bull are 130 points ahead. If they outscore McLaren this weekend,

they will be constructors champions. We know there are already a few

races left this season, we know who the Formula One champion is but we

don't know who will take the chequered flag in South Korea. All

the action in a moment, but first, highlight of a dramatic qualifying

Ince -- session on Saturday with Ted Kravitz.

Isn't it just a typical? Sebastian Vettel wraps up the championship in

Japan and a week later in Korea, we are treated to the most

unpredictable and competitive qualifying of the year. It is 14

years since Williams won a championship and Rubens Barrichello

was the first big-name knocked out. He starts the 18th. Michael

Schumacher misses the top 10 after a will brush up -- will vibration

slowed him down. The Felipe Massa qualified ahead of his team-mate

for the second week running. But Fernando has not been sure whether

they new wing is making things better or worse? Has it made it

better or worse? That is the answer. I was able to do a good lap, even

not having the new front wing, so it was very positive for me. I am

really looking forward to having a good race. That left an intense

final few minutes as McLaren tried to end the dominance of Red Bull in

qualifying. Weather map -- Mark Webber is fourth on the grid, out

Jenson Button is third. McLaren are at this light visible and --

disadvantage at the Red Bull managed to set -- after Red Bull

managed to save three sets of tyres. It was an event will at last battle

for Vettel. He chose to beat last on May had -- it was an event for

last qualifying for battle. He early, but the stewards decided he

had not gained an advantage. Lewis Hamilton had kept his personal

problems in the garage and gained a pole position for the first time

this season, ending the 16 run of up Red Bull. It is great to be

there, and it is definitely great to have a starting pitching for

tomorrow, but tomorrow is the important day. I have to focus all

my energies on that. I was surprised in a Q3 to show -- see

how close we were, because in cutey, we were quite far behind -- in Q2.

Whether this strategy with the tyres turns out to be an advantage

we will save. It might turn out that it really works for them, but

hopefully by the time we have the new set of tyres, if we ever do, we

will be so far in the lead it would matter. So Lewis Hamilton on pole

position and looking for a win. Sebastian Vettel is alongside and

has a better race strategy with those new tyres. Jenson Button on

the clean side of the grid and gunning for a Sebastian Vettel off

the line. The Ferraris are bound to be a factor in the race.

Alguersuari out-qualifies Michael Schumacher in the Mercedes, while

Kobayashi is the lead Sauber. 16th and 18th for Williams, but at least

a Barrichello has new tyres for the race. Kovalainen wins the battle

for the new teams, and Daniel Ricciardo is allowed to start the

race despite not qualifying due to a water leak.

MARTIN BRUNDLE: As soon as we get a line at the back of the field, we

will see a man with a green flag he will tell Charlie Whiting to go. We

don't see him but the lights are coming on and the Korean Grand Prix

is now under way. Hamilton away well, Jenson Button away very well

indeed. It is a left-hander at the first corner. Some contact right at

the back, between a Sauber and a Toro Rosso. The rest avoided it.

The Toro Rosso was very slow through turn to. Hamilton with

Vettel in his slipstream. Look that bad, Vettel pulls out, but Hamilton

has the inside. Felipe Massa right into third place, what a tremendous

braking zone for him. Felipe Massa, brave as you like. Jenson Button

tried to go outside him. Alonso is in there too, so is Webber. And

Vettel leads the race! His straight-line speed, going around

the outside, inside for the next corner, and Jenson Button is

getting shuffled down the field. He is behind Fernando Alonso. A

tremendous start for Lewis Hamilton, but somehow, Vettel found his speed

down the straight. A brave start for those teams, because in

qualifying, they would nip and tuck at top speed with DRS Open, but it

is close that the moment and he was ideally positioned beget the

slipstream -- at the moment. Brave stuff inside to turn four. The wind

speed here is a four metres per second, I don't know what that

means except that Sebastian Vettel, in the slipstream, out of the head

wind, could really take advantage. It is a tail wind down to turn four.

I expected Lewis Hamilton to take more of the left line, but he left

places ahead of Adrian Sutil. Side by side election, that is Sebastian

Buemi recovering from that contact -- side-by-side action. Kobayashi

got himself into 13th place. Vettel, of course, easily pulling out of

second Ahmad first lap, including passing Lewis Hamilton -- on that

first lap. Look at the lead he has. He needs to break that one second

window to make sure that at the end of a second lap, at Lewis Hamilton

is not in the DRS zone. We have a yellow flag, I presume that is for

the rain. That is Liuzzi leaving the pit lane. Obviously contact on

that first lap. But it was a yellow lap -- yellow flag, but it should

be yellow and red, which indicates fluid on the track. If they mean

slippery track, it is the wrong flag. Jenson Button really

struggling to hang on to the two Ferraris. Fernando Alonso hanging

onto the back of Webber. Petrov is in her eighth place, Paul di Resta

in night, Schumacher in tenth. -- ready close together, closer than

some tracks tend to be. Vettel, let's have a look, the same sector

as Hamilton in the first part of the luck -- lap. There is a replay

of the start. It was nip and tuck and we are expecting the left-hand

side, the dirty side, to lose a car's length, but no evidence of

that. Clean stock as they find their way through at the front,

messy further down. You can see a Lotus and a Virgin run him wide. On

the outside line on Webber. Gets squeezed the little bit, which is

absolutely fair enough and then he is in a perfect position for the

slipstream. Rubens Barrichello, further down the grid. Again, not a

big evidence that the left side is there too. There is no grip

anywhere, basically. A short run to the first corner, and this is the

concertina effect. Has the is a lot more of the kerb than is ideal. --

has to use. This is Jenson Button. We see a Ferrari appeared then his

inside, he turned away. Where did that come from, you can hear Jenson

Button saying. He goes outside the Red Bull and tries to go down

around the Ferrari, back into third place momentarily, but that too

deep. Out on the debt estoppel. He was deploying KERS as he came out

of turn three -- out on the dirty stop. A big push up KERS enabled

him to get out of the slipstream and push past the Ferrari. Then

there was Rosberg around the outside, following the line of

Jenson Button, locking up and getting very wide. Michael

Schumacher, a huge slipstream from the Force India, and this is more

lead in third. Both Felipe Massa and Alonso, 0.9 behind him. Jenson

Button coasting up. Half a second quicker than the previous lap.

Cruising into the zone. He will get the advantage of the rear wing.

Very late on the brakes. He kind of got beaten up in the first lap or

that a Ferrari. It looks like he is intent on winning this race but

there is a long way to go. Let us just enjoy this. RADIO: Jensen

Button, this pace is very strong, the cars in front. -- we can have

the cars in front. He will be losing performance with the dirty

air coming off the cars in front. RADIO: box to overtake this lap.

That is saying that they can use the undercut. That means that you

picked early. Nico Rosberg has got away before him. They get away side

by side, you are allowed to do that. But it means that Nico Rosberg has

got the upper hand. That will not go down well. The team got him out

in front but look at that - he got at slipstream straight away. Can he

stopped this time? Where did he find that kind of speed? Presumably

he used his KERS. And the Mercedes was one of the fastest cars in the

speed trap in qualifying. So he has redeemed himself there. Mercedes

have got the best pit-stop record over all of the teams. Jensen

Button has got on to the auction tyres. That super soft. He has more

grip, theoretically at least, than Nico Rosberg. And he will be

spitting feathers that he got back in front of him. He redeemed

himself beautifully. If you suspect that he would have had DRS. He has

had a bit of KERS and DRS. A bit of flurry of activity now. Michael

Schumacher in and the pits. Jensen Button and Nikko Rosberg still

going at it down in the first gives. I think you are correct, he

had KERS and DRS. Rosberg had the advantage at that stage then he

locked up. Then Jensen Button coming him on the inside, probably

thinking, job done. But Jensen Button had no choice but to yield.

Lucky no one else was coming round that corner. We have spoken about

that. Sebastian Vettel stays out. There he is. And where is Hamilton?

He is in the pit lane now. Soap Lewis Hamilton pits from second

place. Looked to be an OK pit-stop their form McLaren. -- there for

McLaren. Alonso has pitted as well. And the Ferrari team get their main

man on the way. He has gone for the more durable but slower soft tyres.

They go twice as far. Agents until under pressure now. -- Adrian Sutil.

Despite being held up by Nicole Rosberg, that has worked out nicely.

Oh, he crossed the line, does that count? It is a kind of serrated

line. He did cross the solid white line. That has not worked out well

for Ferrari, at the pit stops. Red Bull are going with the harder

tyres for Mark Webber. Sebastian Vettel is copying the McLaren

strategy. The safety car is out. That has been deployed just as Mark

Webber does a new fastest lap. Some debris around, presumably. Part of

that accident. Oh, Schumacher's rear wing is broken. RADIO: Michael

and Vitali have damage ahead of you. That will be the end of Schumacher

at's race, Forshaw. He was in isn't slow down and allow the safety car

to peer out of the way. Now Sebastian Vettel becomes the de

facto safety car. And you have to judge where you think you can

safely let it go. And he has judged that that is the moment and has

gone like a scalded cat. Do not forget that DRS will not be enabled

until two collapse after at the safety car went into the pit. --

two laps. Jensen Button having a look at the back of Mark Webber.

Along dry ground down to turn four now. That is so close and Jensen

Button unlucky not to lose the edge being scolded! Two drivers with a

lot of determination, fighting over the same piece of tarmac. Bruno

Senna in a great position up for as slips Dean -- a slipstream. And

Kobayashi will surely now get DRS. As of any time now, Kobayashi can't

open -- can open the rear wing. You can see the damage to it. Dragging

on the ground. That will be affecting his aerodynamics. That is

where he clipped the back of Senna. We have Mark Webber on the prime

tyre. And Vettel on the option. Alonso comes through in the

slipstream of Massa. Hamilton now within that DRS zone. And he is

half a second quicker when he used it. He is catching Sebastian Vettel

very quickly indeed. Rosberg got a little bit of left turn in, as he

turned slightly left in the braking zone, the Left Front locked.

Guaranteed to happen if you are beyond the limit of grip of your

front tyres. Back at the front, there is Mark Webber in behind

Hamilton. He is here on the Prime tyres. We already saw that they got

to around lap 15 on the options. If Hamilton it and Sebastian Vettel

have to stop on the options then it Webber could be the man to win the

race this afternoon. Pretty bumpy on the inside. Radio: box this lap,

please. Confirm. So the mechanics are getting ready. Good information

also for Red Bull. And it is now a question of what Mark Webber can do

with Clear Air. Mark Webber is coming in at! He must be thinking

oh no, that is not what I need to beat him. Or Red Bull should have

brought him in one lap earlier. What can he do? He will have the

DRS as he East. He will have to use it. -- as he leaves. Rear wing open,

as you predicted. They are worried about the under cut of Hamilton on

the fresh tyres. Hamilton has gone wide. He has to take this in. Mark

and Hamilton has the left-hand side of the right -- racetrack. Hamilton

from the lead while these squabble for the lead. Jenson Button has

been in as well, he is in the pits. Alonso doesn't appear to. But

Felipe Massa has pitted for Ferrari. There is Sebastian Vettel coming

out. That is the fighter the second, where will Jenson Button be? Just

be fine -- just behind. Webber gets the BRS again. -- DRS. Alonso

stayed out. Alguersuari does his personal best of the race. He is

running fifth at the moment. Still Webber can't get past with that DRS.

Great stuff through that middle sector. It reminded me of Jacques

Villeneuve and Aironi. Wheel-to- wheel stuff. Lewis Hamilton,

fighting for all he is worth to kick Mark Webber behind him. You

have to say, he placed his car beautifully. From that initial

lock-up, he was under pressure and he kept the car when he needed to.

A super clean, super respectful, yet aggressive. Great riding.

both of them. Fernando Alonso comes into pit. Will he come out ahead of

his team-mate, the Felipe Massa? A good overview of a perfect pit-stop

and away he goes. Whereas Felipe Massa? Just coming out of the last

corner. -- Where is. He has done it, he sweeps around in front of Felipe

Massa and a job done for Alonso. It is a lot of work just have to be

Jyoti made. Webber, DRS wide-open, I think he is bouncing on the limit

their. -- just to beat your tea made. They are able to use DRS in

all of the straight son in qualifying. -- in qualifying. It is

a compromise. We saw Lewis Hamilton in Monza, he was buzzing into the

limit to, couldn't get past Michael Schumacher. Are we seeing the same

thing from Mark Webber? Let's take stock. We are on lap 38. Vettel,

leading Hamilton by 9.9 seconds, who is half a second clear of

Webber in third. Jenson Button in a fourth. Felipe Massa in the fifth.

Alonso will be in the middle of that when the computer catches up

of. TEAM RADIO: You have got everything we have got a. Just

think about driving tactically the keep Alguersuari as far away as

possible in the Toro Rosso. will he do that? He has around ten

laps more in his tyres than Alguersuari, so he will be nursing

these until the end. The only option he has is to turn up the

engine modes in the last the sector, use up some KERS, a big boost a bit

as he comes out of turn two. Bennett is cross yourself and pray,

because it he has used up all of his stories -- but then it is.

Sitting duck is a phrase that comes to mind. A nice analogy, I like

that one. I will use that again, then. We are run lap 46. -- we are

on. Vettel likes to chase the statistics, I wonder if he has had

a message to say the fastest lap so far is Fernando Alonso. No points

for fastest lap, but statistically, it kicks the box. Vettel accordion

and wanted to cop -- go for the fastest lap last weekend when he

was trying to win the championship and they said, just forget it, just

bring your car to the end of the raced and let's take the

championship, don't make a mistake. -- race. You have to wonder if

Fernando Alonso has punished those tyres a little too hard? He has

dropped another three-tenths of a second to Jenson Button through

that first sector, he was super consistent, but it looks like it

might have taken too much out. RADIO: There are some quick cars

behind Hamilton, you might the John tyres. That is Rocky saying stop

doing that! That is the headmaster, you are leading the race, you have

an 11 second Reid -- lead. Stop enjoying yourself. Webber looking

down the inside, trying to but Hamilton off as he goes through two.

He has that much better traction. There goes the rear wing are of a

Mark Webber. Has he got the seventh gear to do anything in the space?

He goes down the outside and will cut back underneath. He will be on

the throttle first. But a lot of wheelspin. The McLaren has a better

traction than the Red Bull and that is helping Lewis Hamilton where it

really counts. Fantastic stuff, Mark Webber trying to set Hamilton

up, but you have to get up a bit earlier in the morning to get Lewis

to fall for that one. This has allowed Jenson Button to close the

lap. It was 1.4 on the last lap, it looks significantly less now.

Jenson has done a 43.8. 16 seconds covers the top five. So close,

these teams, this year, it is great. Not too many changes for next year-.

We should see plenty of evolution and consistency, they are lowering

the nose of the car for safety and stopping them putting the exhaust

underneath the car, so they should be more equality. -- there should

be. That corn at the end of the lap, or Webber very wide court -- corner.

Straight onto the back of Hamilton. He needs to be cautious but it is

so dirty on the inside of the track, that I think it would be unwise to

be sending anyone up the inside of turn one. The problem Mark Webber

has is that Jenson Button is right behind him. If he wasn't there, it

would be worth a speculative attempt, but if he makes a mistake,

he will get past and third place will become fought. Alguersuari

can't make any inroads on Rosberg, they remain one second apart. He

keeps doing wonderful first sectors with his DRS Open but he can't do

anything about Rosberg. So that makes the Toro Rossos eighth and

10th. Sebastian Buemi catching pulled the rest as well. So Paul di

Resta as the with the chance of a point or two for Force India --

Fernando Alonso, just 2.4 behind Jenson Button. Fernando Alonso,

40.6 on the last lap. We were wondering whether he had cooked his

tyres and then banged in another lap only one-tenth away from his

fastest, and the current fastest, lap of the race. He is coming into

play. Jenson has got to get up there with Mark Webber and they can

move otherwise he will be attacked by Ferrari. And Webber is closer

than he has been, this must be his opportunity. He goes for it and he

keeps it tidy. He does, Lewis will get the DRS are, so the places he

is at the moment. Wrong-footed by the look -- Lotus but he now gets

the DRS Open and goes straight past. He was on his way past any way with

better speed and with presumably the KERS employed. Jenson Button

right on the back of the fight now. So Hamilton keeping his head and

reclaiming that place, and indeed, Clicket Jenson Button got that

right in there. -- Clicket Jenson through 17 and 18 and it gave

Webber his chance. It is intriguing to see whether relative pace of

these cars is. You have the McLaren looking mighty on traction and for

whatever reason, Lewis Hamilton in that last sector, a lot of sweeping

corners, he loses pace. He was just a little bit wrong footed as he

came off the right hander. Mark Webber goes for it and did the end,

Lewis Hamilton, I wonder if he said, take it this time and I will pass

you on the next straight. I love how they are trying to work out

their strategy. Is that Webber in front again? It is a replay, excuse

me. I got so excited. I like to see at racing and overtaking! This is

Paul di Resta getting past Sebastian beware -- getting

overtaken by a Sebastian Buemi. He will have to drive like crazy if he

wants to take that last point. Toro Rosso in to eighth and ninth, using

that prodigious straight-line speed they had in qualifying. Macros

radio -- TEAM RADIO: Mixture five, full power. I suspect that is the

same as a blue Button. Webber looking to go past in turn one,

backs out of bed, trying to get the drive through turn two. -- backs

out of it. By the time he gets into the DRS activation point, he is

just too far back. 12 seconds behind the leader now. Vettel

coasting out front. This lot are busy watching each other. Fernando

Alonso has just been told, turn the Ferrari, tear it up to the maximum

amount of horsepower. You have enough fuel to get to the end of

the race running on maximum power. Coming up to lap a few cars.

Kovalainen added Liuzzi, Kobayashi as well -- Kovalainen and Liuzzi.

They will be lapped. They come through the pack, Hamilton, Webber,

but then, and Alonso. -- Jenson Button. Paul di Resta is holding

off Sutil, matching him a lap for lap. Alonso is getting in position.

You could see Jenson Button with a little oversteer of the kerb. Needs

to close up as they run through turn 14. Short shift on the exit

and down, playing the gearbox like a musical instrument in that

Ferrari. Struggled a little bit through the last term. The gap has

opened up a bed. You wouldn't want to be taking a bite of that war on

the outside of 17. -- wall. He back-to- back into the corner like

a MotoGP ride out just at the wrong moment, just about to get the DRS.

He is 0.8 behind going over the line, he must have been more than

as second adrift in the activations loan. -- a second. Hamilton still

leaves Webber. It has been a good fight. It has, they have been

fighting with the under the various parameters, how much KERS? How do I

use the brake balance? How hard the why push the tyres? And the engine

mode ofs? And do I have enough fuel? We have both been in

simulators changing those buttons while driving the car and it's

definitely distract you. It is a lot to think about. As soon as the

tyres started going away, my concentration really was stretched

to its absolute limits, let alone having to press buttons and go into

different modes. TED KRAVITZ: At McLaren, the drivers are being told

different things. Hamilton is asking how many left as he

desperately defence from Webber and Jenson Button is being told to push.

He has enough fuel for the rest of the race so they think he can get

last two laps. Once again Mark Webber will have the seemingly

useless DRS available to him. ALONSO: I give up. That is not a

nice message for a team to here! There is a motion going on inside

that Helmut. He has really pulled himself back into this race. He

can't sniff second place. It was an incident in front of him. That is a

message to McLaren. Do you think he is just teasing them the? I think

he is. I think that is a message, if you

ever leave me behind Massa again! Rosberg comes back. Good defensive

driving from Rosberg. But can he held on for one more lap after this

one? This lap is a good layout for racing, no doubt about it. Hamilton

has done his personal best, the fastest lap of the race. He pulled

that one out of the Bank! -- the bag. RADIO: use them Button if you

get the chance, mark. I think that corners from home as once again he

leaves his main pursuer is after taking the lead on the first lap.

He really has been supreme. And as they fought each other he managed

to pull clear. He takes his 20th Grand Prix victory. Sebastian

Vettel would have thoroughly enjoyed that. It will mean a great

deal to him. Hamilton is second. Mark Webber is a close third.

Jensen Button over the line for a 4th, closely pursued by the man who

said he was giving up in 5th. Alguersuari on the last lap. Here

is a replay. Coming from a long way back. You have to wonder if Rosberg

has the fuelling issue because that was from 50 metres behind. So

Alguersuari then takes seven. Rosberg crosses the line now, it is

almost as if he was out of fuel on the last lap. 7th and 9th position

for Toro Rosso. We had finishers. 21 RADIA, run fantastic, it

Sebastian. A great drive. Korean Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel

it is the winner. It was a shame for him one year ago when his

engine blew. But he picks up the points that helps Red Bull become

the constructors champion. And well done to Alguersuari who will be

happy with points. For the drivers' Championship, that has been won by

Sebastian Vettel. And the constructors Championship trophy

will also now be handed to Red Bull. 558 points. A truly incredible

season for them. Let us here from the men at the centre of the action

today. It was a great race and I enjoyed it so much. Yesterday I was

happy. I know that I was second. But I a had a good lap. And today

it was not a perfect start but a very good first lap. I was able to

discharge KERS where I wanted to. And after it last week, we were

struggling with the tyres, this week we were superior and able to

pull away. That was great for us to watch. The battle with Mark Webber

was fantastic. Really strong, clean racing, will to have real. Yes, it

was good. I went backwards so I'm not ecstatic, but I'm happy for the

team as we have got some good points. I think I drove pretty well,

considering how much quicker at their car was, which was a

considerable amount. But with good Exits we were able to just about

straight ahead. Great driving out there. But we were confused when

you came in the same time as Lewis Hamilton. I was as confused as you

wear! The tyres were in good shape and I wanted to keep going. So that

was a shame. He seemed to have much better traction then you'd that

kept him ahead? Yes, and I think when I got past him at turned five,

you could see the acceleration. You cannot do much in the last sector.

You were battling right to the end but could not quite hang on. I just

could not get close enough in the last sector. I put a lot of front

end in to the car. But I could not get close enough to them to use DRS.

I think I used it once in the whole race. Not perfect, but if this is a

bad day, it is not so bad. Tell us about the start was a DUP the start

was all right. I braked where I thought was correct and it felt

correct but then there was a car that I could not see before I

turned in. Then I was stuck on the outside. But I do not think it

would have changed my race. I just was not quick enough.

Well we spoke before about you are wanting a point. Maybe not as many

as you had hoped for today? Well as. It was quite crucial. -- as. It was

quite crucial. It just was not to be. Regained appoint back on -- we

gained a point back on Sauber. A week ago Sebastian Vettel was

enjoying the plaudits and seven days later, at more celebrations

for Red Bull. And it means that they are at the constructors

champions. The best driver, and the best team in Formula 1. As the sun

sets in South Korea let us get the thoughts of David Coulthard. It was

a fantastic race. A much bigger winning margin than we have seen

from Sebastian Vettel of late. But Hamilton learning to control the

race. And as skilful use of DRS. We have three different manufacturers'
