The British Grand Prix Formula 1

the soaking we have endured at Silverstone, the Sunshine has

appeared and 120,000 fans are about to become part of what has become a

classic Formula One season. It is the 9th round of the Championship

that has seen seven different winners in the opening races. And

the resurgence of Ferrari has continued. But can Fernando Alonso

take the victory around the circuit? It has not been achieved

since 1999 by a certain David Coulthard. David, conditions are

very different as we prepare for the start of this? Good news for

the Ferrari fans, we saw in the limited running in the dry on

Friday is they have good underlying pace. The tyres are holding up,

there is a difference between the soft and hard. We will get into

that when the race starts. Isn't it fantastic, we have the two guys in

first and second in the world Championship on the front rows.

Look at the Sunshine beating down. All those fines -- fans that have

been pouring in. The gates opened up at 6 am. We have seen people

walking and cycling miles to get here. It is wonderful to see the

support in what is turning out to be a tremendous Formula One season.

British support for Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, means they do

have some work to do. Jenson Button is in 16th and Lewis Hamilton is in

eighth place. But we have seen what they can do in the past. Sebastian

Vettel is in for position, before time he has been in the top four.

Three of those have been propositioned. Michael podium, got

his first podium since returning to Formula One? Michael blowing a kiss

to the camera, very relaxed. He either as extra focus and extra

capacity to blow a kiss to the fans, or he is totally mad. Ma Webber, if

the outside of the front row. It is the inside of the track here. At

Silverstone last year, he was beaten to pulp position by his

team-mate who was in that position. Alonso does start in pole position,

his third pole position at Silverstone. In 2006, he won in the

Renault 4 stock last year he won in a Ferrari. He has a great record at

Silverstone and thus the track. Bernie Ecclestone keeping an eye on

tyres which indicates to us if they have gone for the soft compound or

the hard compound. The yellow writing indicates the softer tyre.

That indicates what choice. Lewis Hamilton have gone for the harder

tyre. We will see a bit of difference. Let's talk to Gary

Anderson in the pits. It is clear there is going to be a bit of a

difference in decision-making? Definitely. None of them have had

any mileage to sort it out. We are looking at it now, Mark Webber on

the softer tyre. It is the faster for eight to 10 lamps. GP two

practice has finished now, but you'll have to see how they get on.

Alonso is the pole position man. Webber Will have to follow him

dutifully round. Not do was Michael Schumacher did a few years ago,

over tape the pole position man and got into trouble? Yes, those of the

Rolls, the pole position man of the sets the pace. There has got to be

a little bit of space to allow the drivers to warm up the tyres and

get heat into the brakes will stop Alonso, the odd man out at the

Will this be an opportunity for Mark Webber? Red Bull starts have

been better. Madrid look at the last couple of races in Monte Carlo

and Valencia. They do seem to be on top of it. Fernando Alonso leading

the Drivers' Championship by 20 points. Red Bull asked a leading in

the Constructors' Championship from McLaren. Lotus at risk from Ferrari.

Kimi Raikkonen is in sixth, but Fernando Alonso is in pole position.

This is a real chance for Ferrari to move back into third.

TEAM RADIO: Michael, the situation has not changed. 27 degrees is the

latest Reid. Predicting a dry race. Not looking at any showers. Plenty

of blue sky. Conditions pretty much as we have seen them all week then?

I think I heard a few people saying Hallelujah! I think we have had in

of rain so far. Of though it may give opportunities for the likes of

Jenson Button to come through the grid, we want to see flat-out,

Grand Prix racing on one of the fastest tracks around the world.

Alonso is already taking his position. The midfield runners

coming through Club corner. Jenson Button is in the lower end of the

midfield, in 16th place. Never finish on the podium in the British

Grand Prix, Jenson Button. What can he do from back there? All of the

teams have had so little running in the dry, we are going into new

territory. How many laps can they do on each set of tyres? Which will

be the better tyres over a stint? The softer tyres might be faster

but they might not last as many laps as they need them to. Getting

ready. Lights out and away we go. It is a good start from Alonso. He

just gets in front of Webber. Vettel is next in line, that is a

good start by Felipe Massa. Vettel should have the inside line for the

left-hander. Just about makes it. They come down and sued the

straight. We had a Force India in the background going extremely wide.

We will find out who does all was. Hamilton is in ninth at the moment.

It is Paul di Resta. He has a puncture. There has been some

contact. It is all going wrong for Paul di Resta for him at the moment.

Jenson Button has moved up well into 12th place. Nico Hulkenberg in

the middle of the group with Bruno Senna. Alonso is leading. Mark

Webber is second, Michael Schumacher is third. Massa is in

fourth. Maldonado is ahead of Raikkonen. We did see Grosjean

having a terrible start. And he ran wide on the exit of Copse corner.

That allowed the Sauber in front to get past. Jenson Button is all over

the back of Grosjean. The Force India went a wide and it allowed

the Sauber to get so up alongside. Perez and runs around the outside

and it puts him on line for the exit of Club corner, a great

driving. He was so impressive in qualifying but missed out. Groan

macro on the grass. Jenson Button his throat. Milagro Rozon will

fight back. Kobayashi going round the pair of them. Romain Grosjean

is still in front of Jenson Button and has got back in front of

Kobayashi. Kobayashi ran a bit wide. Rosberg round the outside of his

Grosjean. If his the Toro Rosso he is battling with, just in behind

Hamilton. And there is so much going on. Rosberg is 58, he had a

terrible first lap. Massa is looking good in fourth place. And

then Vettel. There is Paul di Resta into the pits for star There was a

puncture, so they must have been contact. Some of the debris on the

track. It looks to me sufficiently off line to not to be a danger. But

it could be an issue. We are on board with Kobayashi. He is down

the inside. He has got past Romain Grosjean. I wonder if Grosjean has

put damage on the car. He has gone for the pits, well spotted. That

brings Jenson Button into 12 position. The Ferrari of Felipe

Massa is looking very good indeed. He was not as lucky in Valencia, he

had some contact with Kobayashi did Felipe Massa. Romain Grosjean got

married last week but things this week have not gone to plan. They

had the side Jack under the car which would normally be the

indication of a front wing change. But they could not see the activity.

It was more than just a pit stop the tyres. He has probably changed

to the other compound of tired. -- tyres. He is trying to get past

Michael Schumacher or into Copse corner. He has had to change down

in the middle of the corner and it has left him vulnerable to Vettel.

Sebastian Vettel almost making it but Massa was able to defend. But

they have Maldonado catching up with them. Vettel will be in the

still has the Williams chasing, Kimi Raikkonen not far behind he is

He got away with it and it is still Felipe Massa in 4th place and

Sebastien Vettel in 5th place. Michael Schumacher has that vital

Fernando Alonso using more of his KERS. Look at the gap he got

himself as he ran into the section. He may have been flat flu turn 1.

We are on board with Kimi Raikkonen Raikkonen looks to the left. Lewis

being cautious. Positioned himself on the outside of Pastor Maldonado.

No room there. Wasn't the most attacking start from Lewis Hamilton,

but he is playing the long game. Can we see as we witness Sebastian

Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen going. Where was the contact? That was

Grosjean touching the back of Paul di Resta. That caused the puncture

and the car has been retired. We can see there he is. A very short

Grand Prix and a disappointed young man today. Very early out of the

action. Fernando Alonso is leading, but not by much only 0.8 of a

second ahead of Mark Webber. Sebastian Vettel is fifth.

Raikkonen is sixth. There is Jenson Button, he is 13th. Heikki

Kovalinan is in 17th. Timo Glock is 18th. And then the two HRTs. Button

won a few places at the start. We're going into one of the slowest

sections of track. They will put it into second gear and roll it to the

left and nice and gentle as they build the speed through the last

corner. Able to use a lot of kerb and then Abbey, just listen to this.

Down a gear with this amount of fuel on board, they will have 150

kilo and they will have dancing off the limiter in qualifying had it

been dry. The front end of the Sauber looking good at this stage.

The Saubers seem to be in a reasonable shape. Fernando Alonso

has made a bit more of a break. slow pace. We have to keep up with

these gays. And we have seen that a couple of times. -- keep up with

these guys. It has happened before, Wen we get into the races, they're

struggling with the tyres. Lewis Hamilton on the harder tyres

available. So the guys in front of him are on the soft tyres. We know

until the tenth gap that that softer tyre will give them an

advantage. That shouldn't be a surprise, shouldn't be a panic that

Lewis is not quite as, not feeling as comfortable on the harder tyre.

Massa is in fourth on the softer tyre. But Fernando Alonso is doing

a great job up front. He is on the harder tyre. Gary, bring you in on

this. The different tyres that everyone's using and looking at

Fernando Alonso, looking good. it is looking good. Keeping the

tyres alive on this graining, the left front not graining will mean

But nobody has got long runs on the tyres. They're just, they're still

exploring. Mark Webber needs to make sure she he hangs on to Alonso

and keep him honest. Because Mark Webber's dropping back and I think

he needs to close that gap up again. Massa is in DRS range of Michael

Schumacher. We know Maher -- Mercedes has good speed. Can he get

it down the inside? Michael Schumacher goes defensive, as is

his right. But it is a sign, if Michael is slow on the run into the

DRS zone, then Massa is coming through. We know Felipe Massa is

not a second a lap slower under normal conditions than Alonso. So

he is being held up by the Mercedes. Some tyre management could be being

deployed by Michael. You have got to play the longer game. Use KERS

seven and 13. Use KERS seven and 13 and try to use the rear wing

earlier. 7 and 13. That is the Luffield corner and 13 is where

they are now. We can see Sebastian Vettel there just in the background,

is he just controlling his tyres? Or is he... Running at his actual

pace now? Sebastian Vettel behind. He is in fifth. Raikkonen is in

sixth. Pastor Maldonado is in seventh in the Williams and Lewis

Hamilton still in eighth. Struggling a bit. Then Perez ninth.

Senna in tenth. As they continue around, Michael Schumacher knows

that that DRS zone is coming up. Now they're into that zone where we

see whether Massa can close it up on the exit of the loop through the

left hander at Aintree. Now we're looking at a replay, this was

Sebastian Vettel at the start. some damage has been done. Is that

off the front of the Red Bull, or the back of the Ferrari? If it is

off the back of the Ferrari, it could be one of rear straights that

hangs down below the rear wing. Let's keep an eye on that and maybe

Gary can see whether that is a piece of Ferrari or the Red Bull

missing. We have had eight out of 52 laps. Our basis as good as if

not better than anyone apart from Fernando Alonso. We are looking

good. Fayre feeling confident about things, -- fayre feeling confident

about things. A long way to go. Kimi Raikkonen is another former

winner. Always a consistent finisher here. Tucked behind

Sebastian Vettel and again Massa getling -- getting close to Michael

Schumacher. Michael Schumacher does enough to fend off the Ferrari with

the Mercedes. Look at that train of traffic this a building up. This is

allowing Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber to open up a breathing point.

The gap is down to Michael is six seconds. It us playing into the

hand of Ferrari and Red Bull and Massa again positioning the car all

over the back of Michael Schumacher. As they run down into the village

section. So Michael Schumacher and Massa, again Felipe Massa will try

and get the slip stream as they come out of left hander and on to

Wellington Straight. Its not a long DRS zone. He will have a thing

think, but Michael Schumacher covers the inside and has it under

control for the moment. The top ten are there. Felipe Massa, every lap

he does, where he doesn't manage to pass the Mercedes, he loses

performance from the tyres. You can see the front left tyre, already

showing sign of graining. The track is green, there has been so much

rain on the track, what we mean by green, there is not rubber

impregnated into the track and you get more of a shuddering of the

tyre across the tarmac. That is absolutely crucial, you can see if

Felipe Massa can't gate pass on Michael, then he probably will have

to revert his strategy to make an earlier stop than he may otherwise

have wanted to get some clean air. That is dictated by the amount of

time you lose in the pit lane, about 16 seconds and that drops you

into the train of traffic behind him. If he was to do it now it

would put him into the battle between Kobayashi and Button.

good lap from Fernando Alonso. The gap is now three seconds. Lewis

Hamilton keeps his options open and cities on for a podium. Up the

inside goes Perez. But Lewis Hamilton shuts the door and Perez

not able to nip past. You can see Lewis Hamilton struggling. Button

is struggling with his car. So the McLarens are struggling. They are

and we have heard on the radio that Lewis Hamilton's been told that

Michael Schumacher is struggling on the options. McLaren trying to keep

Lewis calm on the harder tyres, saying the options are not great

and be patient, let the track rubber in. But a wake up call for

Lewis Hamilton as Perez tried down the inside into the village corner.

This is already. Michael Schumacher 40.1, still holding the others up.

That is interesting. That impolice that Mark Webber is happy to sit at

a -- that implys that Mark Webber is happy with the gap. That is

about tyre management? Yes we expect at least two stops today.

Grosjean coming back through field. Marussia didn't make it easy for

him there. That was getting past Glock. We expect two stops to be

what people would aim for. If tyre wear is high we could see them

reverting to three. And maybe Mark, as we see, activity from the Red

Bull guys. Obviously they're aim for it and Sebastian Vettel has

come in for tyres. Sebastian Vettel first of the lead group to come

into the pits. And make that stop. Let's see. He goes out on the

harder compound tyre. Looked fairly smooth. On his way once again. And

it is a long pit lane, but it does cut out a section of track. It is

not a long time in the pit laeb. -- pane. We have seen Paul di Resta go

out of race. Let cease what happened to him. This is the

contact with Romain Grosjean and we're with Romain Grosjean and ore

it was just a glancing blow, but it was enough to cause a puncture. He

is talking to Lee. Well that was a short lived Grand Prix for you.

turned into turn 4 and there was no pressure and it was off the rim and

pupbgtchurd. There is nothing you can do. And then I damaged the

floor and went off at Bebb etc, because half of floor was missing.

That is the part of Bloor that they are trying to create the down force.

How are you feel something It's not been a great weekend. The weather

has hampered it. But the fans are here, the fun's out and hopefully

they put on a good race. Just disappointed not to be out there.

Our gamble had paid off going for a dry set up. Conditions couldn't

have been better for us. Massa has take than place from Michael

Schumacher and we have more pit stops. Pastor Maldonado is in and

peress. -- Perez. Michael Schumacher unable the keep Massa

behind him. That was a good stop by the Williams crew aye don't think

there will be any change between Williams and Sauber. They get a

nice clear run. Joining behind Jean-Eric Vergne. And while we were

listening to that Paul di Resta intervue, Pastor Maldonado keeping

deep into the corner. But we were getting the play in frr Massa

saying he felt comfortable. He passed down the inside. Great stuff

The VAT is a long way back to the pits The Mall Barnardo. --

Maldonado. Is there any damage the Perez? We need to see a replay of

that. It looks as if they drifted through the entry to Brooklands,

they ran out of road and the contact was made. Two potential

podium finishers out of the race. Maldonado was impeded after contact

with Lewis Hamilton in Valencia. Michael Schumacher has come into

the pit lane. He was third but opted for a few moments ago before

these pit-stops will stop DRS disabled. I wonder why that has

been reported. Back out goes Michael Schumacher. Gary Anderson,

what are you thinking on the tyres at the moment? Alonso is still in

the lead at the moment? Everyone has taken a lesson from it. Michael

is going out on the hard tyre as well. We see a replay. Perez puts

himself on the outside in to Brooklands. Be the Tornado macro

was running out at a racetrack and was at the limits of his grip and

decided to take a wider line. The stewards will decide. The looks

like Maldonado had oversteer going into the corner. It will be the

wall of death if you go it round the outside. You put yourself at

the mercy of the car seen you and giving new space. It would have

been an incredible pass had Perez got away with it. We are waiting

for team Radio which does not appear to be coming. It was a brave

attempt and it did not come off and it has cost them both this

afternoon. Perez showing he would have been capable of stepping up

and taking a penalty if this was football. Massa is coming in the

pits. Massa was in third place because he had got past Michael

Schumacher. But his team mates still out there on the harder of

the compound tyres. Webber Has not come in yet. The harder tyres going

on there for Felipe Massa. The Kimi Raikkonen is in at the same time.

Massa coming back out. Quite a sizable gap to Michael Schumacher

who is up behind both the Toro Rosso of Ricciardo. Massa gets a

breathing space and he shouldn't have been under pressure from the

pace of Michael prior to the pit stop. Michael Schumacher goes for

the inside. I'm curious to find out why the DRS was switched off and

then back on. Michael Schumacher disposes of the Toro Rosso.

moves up ahead. He has got Raikkonen not far behind him. The

incident between Perez and Maldonado will be investigated

after the race. Alonso is still going quickly. Another new fastest

middle sector, so there is no sign that Alonso's harder compound tyres

are beginning to go away on him. No loss of performance. This is

another incidents we are looking at, Bruno Senna being passed by Jenson

Button. Jenson Button is moving up I think into 8th. They are going

deeper into the race. Mark Webber going into the pits and has gone

for the harder compound tyre. The Ferrari is still lapping quickly.

That will bring him out just behind Lewis Hamilton. You can see the

Sauber going through just before the Force India. Webber Deciding to

be the first to blink and has changed the strategy and tyres. It

look like Alonso was very comfortable on those hard tyres.

Will Ferrari react? They have plenty of breathing space. That is

a clear sign from a driver with his Helmand still on, do not approach.

We gathered de DRS was disabled because of the incident which took

place between Perez and Maldonado at the end of the DRS zones. While

that was going on, getting rid of debris, they disables DRS. Now they

are allowed to use it. Raikkonen going through in 13th with several

of the guys ahead of them not having made their pit stops just

yet. The Ferrari is getting ready to come for a pit-stop. Alonso is

into the pits. He has managed to get to lap 15, on two laps 16

before having to make a pit stop. So these harder, compound tyres

have gone well. He puts another set on. At some point, Jenson Button

getting into the mix. Vettel has got past him? He has. Vettel has

done his stock on a fresher set of tyres. -- done his stop. Jenson

Button runs a little bit wide and it allows Vettel to pounce. As they

break into Cook, it was very dusty and there was nothing Jenson Button

could do. He had already been defensive into the corner. It

allowed Sebastian Vettel and undercut and a clear run into club.

Sebastian Vettel and you crash helmet for him. Omar Deghayes has

been making a move on Rosberg. But the pits for start he is going deep

as he can. He has nothing to fight with its own mess -- Massa can

surge past. You take more out of the tyres in this first phase of

the race because you have so much more weight. You tend to be shorter

in this phase and you are able to do more laps later in the Grand

Prix. It still remains to be seen if anyone can get away with a two-

stop, Jenson Button is going into the pits. Kobayashi had worked his

way into third place before making the pit stop. Jenson Button into

the pit lane. Can McLaren service the car and sent him on his way

without any errors? He has gone on to the softer tyre. He has decided

to run the softer tyre in this neck stint. We are seeing different

strategies. Still this guy looking blue. Rosberg was told on the radio

you have to push to beat Button for a start and he has done exactly

what is requested. He would have gone into maximum engine mode and

used all of the KERS in that lap, which sometimes can be tricky in

the breeding zones. Can Button respond on those new tyres? It is

not over yet, they go into left- field. Has Jenson Button got any

KERS left? He has brand-new options. He is in the slipstream as they go

through Woodcote. Rosberg it is defending as they go into Copse

corner. But there is so much breaking into Copse corner, there

is not much chance. Jenson Button is in the slipstream as they enter

Becketts. But some will be stealing all of his clean air. It looks like

Button might be a bit too far behind. Mercedes power against

Mercedes power of course. TEAM RADIO: It is time to push, it

is time to push. Don't worry about Alonso behind us. Hamilton leads

this race and has not stopped so far. Hamilton going deep into this

race. That is the battle for the lead. Hamilton going surprisingly

far on these sets of tyres will start he is keeping Alonso behind

him. Alonso is on a set a fresher tyres and will want to dispatch the

McLaren. Alonso has a five-second gap to Mark Webber behind. He does

have some breathing space, but he won't want to lose too much time

behind Hamilton. We have Alonso remain seven-tenths of a second

behind. Hamilton will be looking to come in soon on these tyres. This

is what the crowd want to see. They want to see a British driver up

front and right now it is Lewis Hamilton. I know it is to do with

strategy but he has been able to get this far without doing a pit

stop. Here comes Alonso out of Club corner. So much more grip than the

Ferrari. But he cannot do anything with it. This includes the DRS on

the exits, and Lewis Hamilton is just controlling the inside of the

corner. Now we get to the DRS zone and the Alonso has him before he

needs to use it. In fact, he has got the DRS because he was behind

Hamilton. And now Hamilton tried to get past him, but he could not hold

it. Wonderful fighting spirit from Lewis Hamilton! Hamilton are

worried about the fact it is affecting his own personal strategy,

driving off line and going wheel- to-wheel, making his lap times

lower and that will affect where he comes out after his pit stop. He is

racing for the British crowd and what entertainment. I don't know

how he managed to come back at Alonso when the McLaren have the

DRS available. He was behind Alonso at the DRS zone. In the end it came

to nothing but what a great bit of entertainment. Remarkable. A few

years ago when they were having roughed seasons, they were dicing

like that for 14th place at Silverstone. Now it is for the lead.

It has opened a opportunity for McLaren to do something different

than the others. Raikkonen is in seventh. But in his in 12th. Jenson

Button has managed to get past the other Mercedes. Also running well

is Red Bull they are in third and fourth, Webber Third, Vettel 4th.

Michael Schumacher, the DRS activation is at the white line.

Alonso was behind a Hamilton at the activation point. Raikkonen will be

able to activate his DRS behind Michael Schumacher to effect a pass

into problems. As we watch the battle we have the tie as the

drivers have used so far on the graphic. Alonso has used the heart

tier twice. It does mean Alonso still has to use the softer tyre at

some point. -- hard tyre. Hamilton as a loud Webber to close the gap

down to about 4.57 seconds. It is not panic mode yet, but it could

come in handy later in the race. Gary Hamilton, what are your

thoughts on the Hamilton strategy? It is a good strategy but it is

about to go by its sell-by date. He needs to go in the pits now.

could be in danger of dropping right into the bottom half of the

top 10. It won't help his cause. Alonso is the race leader and

Hamilton is 2.3 seconds behind. Lewis is in danger of coming out

behind Romain Grosjean, if he does not pick now. He is losing too much

time on these harder tyres. He has managed to get to lap 20 out of 52

before making a pit stop. This is on board with Kimi Raikkonen. Just

trying to look after those tyres and not generate any wheelspin, in

seventh place. We seen the McLaren team came into the pit-lane as if

they were going ready -- getting ready to service Hamilton. He has

now gone past. He is at Copse corner. And he did not come in that

a lap. Let's look at the gap to Romain Grosjean as we are on board

Italian again, unfortunately. But we will work it out. McLaren are in

the pits. This is Lewis Hamilton. From second place. But the question

is, where will he drop to? His gap to Romain Grosjean was about 14

seconds. And we reckon a time in pit lane for a three second stop

will cost you 16 seconds. So the maths don't add up. It was a good

stop. It was quick. McLaren have improved their pit stops after so

many problems. Grosjean has Pazed us, so Lewis Hamilton has managed

to make it work out. Pops out behind Raikkonen and Michael

Schumacher. I need to get a sharpen of my pencil on my maths. I thought

that would be closer. Lewis Hamilton is in seventh. Michael is

fifth. He is on the softer compound tyre. We wait to see how far he is

going to go in the race, Lewis Hamilton. He is on a different

strategy. He has gone deeper into the race on the harder tyre.

Fernando Alonso went deep and Fernando Alonso leads the race by

five seconds from Mark Webber. Now that everyone has made their pit

stop, a bit more we can catch up where everyone is. Let's watch

Lewis Hamilton as he chases after that pairing of Michael Schumacher

and Kimi Raikkonen. It is Fernando Alonso leading, Mark Webber in

have seen so far at 2.8 seconds. After the hard work they have done

after the horrible pit stops they suffered in the early part of

season, that will be a big boost. But can they score points here

today? Jenson Button is still in 12th. He has not made up a lot of

ground through the pit stops. Lewis Hamilton now close to the back of

Kimi Raikkonen. He is right in the slip stream as they get in through

the activation point for DRS. Running out on to the Wellington

Straight. And we know that he was able to pull a pass there on

Fernando Alonso. But a bit too far back on Raikkonen, who is running

in the dirty air of Michael Schumacher. The hunted is becoming

the prey in the case of Raikkonen. Let's get a word with Sergio Perez.

Tell us about what happened? Well pastor, it is a drive hear the

doesn't respect the other drivers. He just... A matter of fact. I mean

I was already in front and if not, he should have given me enough

space not the crash. But he tried to push me all the way to the

outside and I don't understand the way he is driving. I really hope

the stewards can make something. The last three or four races he has

done something to someone and it is not the first time. He damaged my

weekend and did the same with Lewis in Valencia and they just give him

a drive through. I think it is not enough and this guy will never

learn if they don't do something. It is a dangerous driver and can

hurt someone. Have the drivers spoken about Pastor Maldonado?

know we're risking our lives and he has no respect. It is not a matter

if he is close. He has no respect and the way he is driving, I think

the stewards have to do something by now. Because it is not the first

time he does something. He does affect many other drivers. I'm not

the only one. Kimi Raikkonen is making the move on slue. To take

fifth position and Lewis Hamilton on the -- the move on Michael

Schumacher to take fifth position and Lewis Hamilton will make the

same move on Michael Schumacher. heard Lewis Hamilton's engineers

saying you're on the other tires and Lewis Hamilton passes Michael

Schumacher. As we saw, two passes on Michael in the space of one

kilometre. The Mercedes struggling to keep pace with the McLaren and

Lotus. Coming back to what Sergio Perez said, that is strong and

damning language regarding the drivers having concerns about

Pastor Maldonado, as we see a replay of Kimi Raikkonen going

around Michael Schumacher. Used the DRS effectivity -- effectively. You

will see the gain in speed here tshes DRS, the reduction in drag.

It works beautifully. Yes it is a short straight, but it lacks to be

the right choice and here we're coming through Woodcote corner,

Lewis Hamilton timing the slip stream to perfection. He will have

used KERS there. And we gather the message that Fernando Alonso got

was that they're planning to do two longer stints on the harder tyres

and a short stint on the end on the softer compound tyre. You have to

use both types of tyre. That is what Fernando Alonso is planning to

do. He has got a 4.8 second advantage over Mark Webber. The two

Red Bulls rung competitively and lapping at the same pace as

Fernando Alonso. As you can see, the new fastest lap by Kimi

Raikkonen, having got past Michael Schumacher, it is now the Lotus of

Kimi Raikkonen in fifth that is fastest. Lewis Hamilton is behind.

You would expect Lewis Hamilton to be able to match or improve on that.

Because he is on the softer tyre. But it does seem as though harder

tyre i not only resilient, but delivers a good lap time. Yes the

track is going through phases. We're now 25 laps into this Grand

Prix and there is 25 of rub hear the has been laid down there. A

combination of prime and option. It has been imbedded into the tarmac.

OK Michael target plus eight. Target plus eight. That is an

indication they have a base strategy of when they would expect

to stop. His engineer telling Michael we're going to add eight

laps to that. But what I was explaining, there will be phases of

race where the car comes alive and starts to talk to you, as the tyres

wear, it may only last for three or four laps and may give you a ten-

plus lap window where you get balance W that comes confidence and

lap time. We have Fernando Alonso in the front, but Felipe Massa is

pretty much hanging in there. He is only 11 seconds down the road in

fourth. So a strong performance from Massa around Silverstone.

Raikkonen is still catching Massa. He was two tenths quicker through

first sector than Massa. But he has a five second gap to try and reduce.

You're watching the race leader, Fernando Alonso. You can see the

gap to Mark Webber. It is 5.4 seconds. A good middle sector from

Mark Webber. He heads down to Stowe corner. We're looking at Pastor

Maldonado on tkphrobg Glock. Hopefully that didn't go wrong did

it. Pastor Maldonado has been in a few incidents this year. He has

only been in the points twice. He had a win in Barcelona. He has been

involved in a lot of incidents. Points scored in China as well.

When he has been on target for plenty more. Its awkward for us to

watch with Pastor Maldonado, because it is great to see Williams

coming back and winning in Spain. But there is only so much time we

can try and turn a blind eye that he is always in incidents. The team

have to be supportive. We see Grosjean coming in. They have to

say the minimum while not criticising their driver. But there

a point where if your always involved in incidents, you have to

look in the mirror and say, what do I need to change? Why do you think

that incident being checked after the race? It looked like a racing

incident. Why would they need to look at it after the race? I think

because Grosjean has been up to stewards a few times, they want to

hear what he has to say. It is race No 9. Pastor Maldonado you mean?

Yes. So much going on. Sorry about that. Thank you for that. We were

watching Romain Grosjean. They want to build a picture of the

personalities. When Perez explained about the drivers having a view,

they all meet on a Friday and they have a Grand Prix drivers'

association meeting and discuss issues. We see a great replay of

Fernando Alonso cutting as much as he can of the corner. There is

still mud on the track from the support races. Here we see as he

came out, passing the HRT of rose rose. Shifting down still as they

go through. He is still lapping well, 1.37.07 and opened that gap

to Mark Webber to six seconds. Gary, the tyres are holding up for

Fernando Alonsoment he is in control of race isn't he? Oh we may

not have Gary for a moment. Oh here we. Can you hear us? Fernando

Alonso looking in control? Yes he is. The big challenge here now

would be for Mark Webber to close that gap. Fernando Alonso started

on the hard tyres and has gone hard/hard and has to run the soft.

Mark Webber started with soft and he has to go soft // hard. Mark

Webber and Sebastian Vettel not out of this yet. Raikkonen has closed

the gap to Massa. But it is not coming down by chunks. But Lewis

Hamilton still running in sixth. Michael Schumacher is in seventh.

Kobayashi is in eighth. Nico Hulkenberg is touring around in

ninth. Touring? He is trying hard. But he is out of our view. Because

he is on his own. Senna is in tenth. Jenson Button is 11th. Daniel

Ricciardo is up to 13th. And cars not in the race, as McLaren get

ready for a pit stop. We lost Petrov before the start of race and

we lost Paul di Resta and we have loss Perez. In comes Lewis Hamilton

then. It was a short stint on the softer tyre there. Now they will go

and put on the harder tyre again. They have indeed. We would expect

them to look at another stop. But you only need to stop for tyres if

he so kooss. -- chooses. He only did eight lap on that last set of

tyres. He is behind rest Berg. McLaren versus best again. Button

is only just a bit ahead. Lewis Hamilton's now down two stops,

versus Jenson Button's one. But with Jenson Button starting so much

further down the grid. Most people on the harder tyre. Lewis Hamilton

putting the pressure on Nico Rosberg and not wanting to wait on

this new set of tyres to try and get past the Mercedes. Well he will

get some new tyre performance. Qualifying was wet. Ample amount of

new tyres available. You don't want to manage them through their life.

But they just give you that bit more confidence. Even when you have

a hefty amount of fuel on board. We're ahid of Romain Grosjean. You

will have him close behind us. We have 23 laps to go. You don't want

to be stopping again. You're doing a great job. Encouragement for

Lewis Hamilton. And Romain Grosjean the guy they feel they're racing

against. Button picking his way through the traffic as well. Both

HRTs still in the race. Senna is running in tenth. Both Williams

still rung as Pastor Maldonado having lost that time after the

incident with Perez. Reminds you of what happened in Monaco. That was a

different kind of incident. That looked like almost I would say a

more deliberate manoeuvre. A lot of suspension travel on the front of

the Lotus. I haven't noticed that much. Lewis Hamilton rung -- run

wide on the village section. Look at the amount of suspension travel.

That is not something we are used to seeing on these cars. The Lotus

will have a third element that controls the ride height and so

when generating the down force will make sure it doesn't run on the

ground. But it is allowing the car new tyres. Cary Fukunaga -- Gary

Anderson, could that be because the cars were set up softer in the

expectation of a wet race? If could be. The low-speed corners would be

more compliant. Then they have the package that it will stop it from

hitting the ground. I wouldn't be surprised to see more roll on these

cars for the wetter conditions. team is not allowed to change the

set up of the cars after qualifying. You cannot change the set up of the

car. In trusting scenario up front and Romain Grosjean is the man with

the best seat in the house. McLaren against McLaren. Jenson Button rear

to make his second stop. Jenson Button is taking his racing line

and this will be costing Hamilton a little bit of performance. Will

people a pass on him on the Wellington straight using DRS?

behind it is Rosberg, who seemed to be struggling earlier. Now catching

up to the McLaren. In the pits is Sebastian Vettel. He gets on his

way. Up front it is still Alonso leading, Webber In second but

Vettel coming in from what was third place. 3.2 second stop, but

not the best we have seen. Be it will feed him back out in front of

Michael Schumacher. Hulkenberg has been closing the gap. Jenson Button

in the pits. It is his second stop this afternoon and could be his

last. Button on his way back out. It could be his last, 20 laps to go.

Fernando Alonso started from pole position and got in front. And he

managed to just get in front of Mark Webber. He has led the race

except perhaps through the pit stops ever since. Damon Hill in the

middle. His father, Graham Hill, although double world champion ever

managed to win the British Grand Prix. Jenson Button is in that

position as well. I don't think he will win it this year. He has

slipped down again because of the pit stop. Grosjean still fighting.

He has Hamilton in his sights. They are fighting hard for position,

tenth position they are fighting for. It will be Hamilton's task to

keep the Lotus behind him. The Lotus is fast and was fast in the

first sector. Will we know the Lotus is fast on the prime tyre.

Hamilton has a bit of breathing space but the Lotus is showing good

pace. Like-for-like in the pit stops, and on the same tired.

Schumacher is going to the inside. Leaves room on the outside but it

is difficult to pass out there. The Kobayashi will try to get the run

out of love field where we have seen several people making this

move stick. The Ferrari engine in the back of the Sauber trying to

get alongside the Mercedes. Schumacher taking a defensive line

early on through Woodcote. But he loses downforce and could not hold

the car and had to back out of it. He was not able to make it stick.

Meanwhile in 13th, update the the British fans. Jenson Button just

lit up the timing screens after his pit stop. Fastest man on the track

at that point. Getting the car to perform, is a little bit too late

in his Grand Prix a would suggest to make inroads. If he picks a big

point, he will be happy with that given his position as we see Kimi

Raikkonen. The harder compound tyre going back on the Lotus. Kimi

Raikkonen is driving a good race and has an opportunity to mix it

with the Red Bull cars. Michael Schumacher coming into the pits. He

was struggling and did not have any grip. Can make get to the end of

the race on these tyres. Adrian Sutil verse. You can see in the

background from Raikkonen, you have Rosberg.

TEAM RADIO: You won't get to the end like this, so you have to look

after your tyres. We need to have the best tyres we can for the end

of the race. Alonso still has to run those softer tyres. Or we are

hoping by staying out burn-out, Red Bull has a chance of doing

something. Here we are with Romain Grosjean. He is ahead of Lewis

Hamilton. Let's see how this happened, David? Romain Grosjean

has been on the attack for while on this is how he did it using DRS.

Hamilton didn't even defend that. He decided to stay on the racing

line. It releases Grosjean, who immediately goes purple in that

first sector. In comes Massa. Mark Webber has just set the fastest lap.

Well Massa come out in relation to Red Bull? He will be hind -- be

behind both Webber And Vettel. In fourth place effectively. We are

seeing some slightly different stops. Kobayashi is behind him.

Mark Webber set the fastest lap of the race but it was only six-tenths

of a second faster than what Ferrari is trying to do. Alonso has

a bit of breathing space to Webber, he can afford to run out another

couple of laps if he wants. There is a clear indication he will need

to come in since. You have to run both types of tyres saw Alonso and

Kobayashi need to make an extra stock. Rosberg still has an use the

soft tyre. So if you pit stops still to come. Webber And Vettel

will be going to the end on this. We are on board with Mark Webber.

Gary Anderson, can his work for Red Bull? Can they give the pressure on

Alonso? It is going to be down to these laps. Webber Needs to get the

gap down to around 15 seconds. I think Alonso knows, he has just

done a 36.5, which is his fastest lap of the race. He needs to go to

about lack 42 to make sure he does not get caught up in the soft

graining of the tyres. My Mark Webber has just got to go for it.

You are watching a man who is not so much that looking after his

tyres, although he still cannot afford to overheat them, but he has

got to put in his series of qualifying style laps? He has, he

was faster on that lap than Alonso was on his older tyres. It is not

going to be enough. Ferrari need to monitor that. They don't want to

beat too early on the option tyre. You would rather defend a position

from the lead than sitting there and watching your lead being eroded

and then coming in and pitting. Ferrari will manage that and Alonso

is very experienced, and the man who is fastest is Kimi Raikkonen

and he is in sixth place. 1 tenths of a second quicker and the Lotus

has great pace. We have seen that all season. We have seen the Lotus

performing well when it is hot. Fernando Alonso, it is earlier than

we expected. He will do a longer stint at than we thought on this

last set of tyres? You don't want to sit there and watch your lead

being eroded. Anything can happen in the pit stop and they would

rather released their man and allow him to use his experience to

protect the tyres. He is doing it from a position of a breathing

space. It he has several seconds on Mark Webber. We will see them at

the end of the first sector. Mark Webber, a few seconds I suggest the

gap. Webber Knows what the target is. And he will have been told

Annie we'll have seen Alonso coming out of the pits and will know it is

the final stop. They are both on different tyres. We had just seen

Kobayashi in the pits being pulled back to his pit box. I don't know

what happened to Kobayashi. We will get a replay, but it looks as

though he overshot his box and they released him and then decided to

bring him back. We see Kobayashi has gone out, Nico Rosberg has been

in and returned to the race whilst we have been watching this. Let's

take a look. This is what happened to Kobayashi. Oh no! He had several

of his guise, he came into quick. It is so unusual to see it. -- guys.

It is so uncomfortable to watch, the brave mechanics have put

themselves on the front line. And the guys on the right Tyneside,

there is very little room for them to get out of the way and the front

wheel gunman gets hit, and the sensor which is attached to a cable

on the front Jack went flying out as well. That normally gives an

indication they can rejoin. That has all gone wrong for Kobayashi

this afternoon, he was in fifth place. He would have dropped down

from that anyway because of that pit stop. Raikkonen his 5th.

Grosjean in six. Felipe Massa setting the pace in his Ferrari.

What is happening between the gap between Alonso and Webber? Webber

Is looking strong but there isn't much difference between them.

Vettel is still holding on to third place.

Radio macro Alonso will be quick now on options. Webber Being told

Alonso will be quick for the next few maps -- laps. Webber Pars macro

chance will come at the end of the race. Gary Anderson, if we think

about this, the car is so much lighter of pure, a lot of the teams

use the softer tyre early in the race and could not go so long. Of

the car is lighter now? It is the best solutions. Hard, hard soft,

the track has got better with all of the rubber on it. Does this

leave the Rosberg. He went back up again. I think it was the left

front. It is the best solution, hard, hard soft means the track has

got better and it is not as green. If you put enough runs a wing on

its on the soft tyre, it probably will survive the graining. But it

will be nip and tuck on those last few laps. We will keep an eye and

that. 12 laps to go in the British Grand Prix. The Mercedes preceded

in the pit stop, it was mature response from the front it right

gunman. Unrecognised he did not have the wheel on and held his hand

up. They went through a procedure and did not take any panic. They

know it will cost them time, but it is better to have the wheel seated

than releasing the car onto the track. They have obviously practise

Hulkenberg and Bruno Senna. But 0.6 seconds separating them across the

line. Jet in once and -- Jenson Button is behind them and then

Jean-Eric Vergne. Bruno Senna in with a chance of moving himself

further into the points. But he desperately needs to get some good

finishes under his belt. He had a tough time in qualifying and

yesterday was a case in point. There were yellow flags at the end

of the lap and he had to back out and lost any chance of getting into

the final qualifying segment and he has not yet managed to qualify top

10 this year. When it comes to racing, he is usually consistent

and is closing that gap close to Nico Hulkenberg. We lost Paul di

Resta at the start of this race. TEAM RADIO: The tyres are looking

good, you can push hard to the end. Bruno Senna getting the message

that he can push on and keep it going for the remainder of the race.

They will be hoping that that will deliver more in terms of points.

update on the screens that one of the Sauber mechanics has been taken

away for a check-up. Being wheeled off. Unsurprisingly, if your head

is a battle for one. And he has a great chance of not only getting

10th place but even 9th place, the gap in front of Hulkenberg, four

seconds then to Schumacher. He will be choosing a single point as best

he can. As we can see Felipe Massa setting the fastest lap of the

Grand Prix followed by recommend and Grosjean. -- followed by Kimi

Raikkonen. They have had the 40 laps of Grand Prix racing, you can

see the debris on the exit of the track, the marbles being thrown

from the tyres. Mark Webber easing the gap down to Fernando Alonso. I

think that Mark Webber, turning under pressure on Fernando Alonso,

as we going to the last 10 laps. Fernando Alonso, such a wily

customers. He might allow Mark Webber to just think that he can

edge up and then control his own tyres, that is what he has to do,

look after his and equipment. He was Hamilton in 7th place and we

are back on board with Bruno Senna, chasing down Nico Hulkenberg. Both

drivers trying to establish their careers in Formula One and it is

vital to score a good points at this stage. Still, Jenson Button

behind them. Then Kobayashi. Rosberg has dropped to 15th place

after that slow or stop. Maldonado in 16th place and we still have

Heikki Kovalainen, Timo Glock, and Karthikeyan. We have this team

battle for 5th place and 6th place with Kimi Raikkonen four seconds

behind Felipe Massa but Grosjean is running faster, three seconds

behind Kimi Raikkonen. It has been pretty close between those in Out

fruit pies -- outright pace. Kimi Raikkonen has been sold in the

Grand Prix. Lots to play for this afternoon. Not only the podiums lot

but the team battle. From that point of view, Felipe Massa is

doing a pretty good job. 12.3 seconds off his team-mate. TEAM

RADIO: The gap is down to only three seconds. Michael closing the

gap on Lewis Hamilton. We might not have finished seeing Schumacher

against Hamilton action. Hamilton is in 7th place but Michael

Schumacher is closing on 10th and Jenson Button is putting the

pressure on Bruno Senna, in the DRS his own. He could not make the most

of that. And closing, he has gone for the wide line. Trying to get as

straight and exit as you can. Kanti challenge? Down towards Copse

corner. Looking in the mirror. No- one challenging. And Jenson Button

is definitely put in the pressure on Bruno Senna. Great stuff. Bruno

Senna is able to get into the slipstream. Jenson Button will be

hoping that running in that dirtier air in front, Force India will give

him the opportunity. He doesn't have to the defensive as he wants

to Stoke. Rowan Atkinson. He is a keen Formula One fan. Not showing

any reaction right now but you'll be watching closely as Jenson

Button tries to get the position and across the start-finish line.

This is absolutely key that he is within that on second window. But a

problem, by the looks about as they go towards the village. Kimi

Raikkonen, closing on Felipe Massa. They have done a very similar first

sector. Into the DRS zone. Hulkenberg, defending. From Bruno

Senna and Jenson Button. Who will go on the attack? Only the cars

Bull. The different strategies are beginning to coalesce. We will see

Fernando Alonso trying to protect those tyres. He will have to work

harder than he might have expected. Hulkenberg still in the race for

9th place with Bruno Senna and Jenson Button. Let us see if the

DRS makes any difference. Mark Webber, chasing Alonso. That is how

close it is. And as we come through the complex, but close enough to

challenge... Half a second quicker. Taking chunks of the lap time. Also

knows that he is on the more durable tyres. Remember the famous

line when he won, he is No. 1 driver for Red Bull on the track

and if he starts losing time behind Fernando Alonso, that when it

Sebastian Vettel comeback. He is running behind this battle for the

lead but at the moment, does Fernando Alonso have anything to

resist this attack from Mark Webber? And he is in the DRS zone,

the gap is down to have the second. You have to be one second or less

behind. That is exactly what he has achieved. Really going on the

attack, they have traffic ahead just to confuse the issue. Mark

Webber's DRS in operation but no chance to get through and Mark

Webber knows that he has some time. 6.5 laps to go in the British Grand

Prix and Fernando Alonso is now fighting to hold on. Remember, he

has been in this position this year when you have to manage the tyres.

Can you stay in front? Gary? think Mark Webber has to do this as

quickly as possible because Fernando Alonso is going through

this tyre problem and this is when he has to pounds, get in now

because once the tyres clear-up... TEAM RADIO: It was a limiter.

Weather is fine. They were talking about the gearbox. To get Fernando

Alonso when he is close because when his tyres clean-up, he will do

a better lap time in this race. has to get on with it. We have seen

this several times. If you get close behind the leader and do not

go for it very soon, you start to his performance yourself as the man

in the slipstream. You have to make you move quickly and Mark Webber is

applying the pressure. But 0.4. There was traffic ahead last time

and that meant Fernando Alonso had some help himself. He has a traffic

and Mark Webber is getting as close as you like. Everybody getting

excited. They know that there is a change of leader in prospect but

Fernando Alonso is focusing on that brilliant exit from the left hander.

Through Aintree. Beautiful driving from Ferrari. Am not sure if Mark

Webber will be close enough. He cannot do this just yet. But he

knows when he brings his car out of the slipstream, he will get that

visual for Fernando Alonso, who is more than aware that he is there.

He has deployed more of his KERS. He has actually got less available

for the rest of the lap. That is the only other two at their

is rumoured that Mark Webber will end up going to Ferrari. Whatever

happens, at the moment he is an Red Bull and he is leading this race.

biggest challenge is to get out of the DRS zone. You want to make sure

Constructors' Championship between Lotus and Ferrari. They are going

to lose it here but not by a huge amount, Lotus. Michael Schumacher

runs in seventh place. Lewis Hamilton is in eighth. Hulkenberg

is in ninth who has managed to stay ahead of Bruno Senna. Jenson Button

Vergne, Rosberg, Maldonado, Pic, di Resta and Karthikeyan out of the

points. We saw how good the Red Bull was in Valencia a couple of

weeks ago. Vettel dominated the race until he suffered alternator

failure. It does look, David Red Bull have found something and it is

working well? TEAM RADIO: You need to go to KERS

plus one is full power. Three laps to go, you can do this. Clear

encouragement for Transat yachts -- Felipe Massa from his engineer. He

is too far behind Vettel to do anything. A Raikkonen has got the

gap down. Massa is responding with a couple of laps to go. He will be

able to match Raikkonen in the middle sector. It has been a strong

performance from Massa. He is only running six seconds behind his

team-mate, Alonso, who has been faultless out front. We talk about

Mark Webber as a potential team- mate for Alonso in the future.

Raikkonen goes very wide and runs off the circuit. That will have

cost him. He was just in DRS range. He was just trying to get in range

and has just blown several tenths of a second. He is no where near

close enough to make a move on this lap so you will have to do it again.

We're running out of laps. Fernando Alonso, Championship leader will

protect that Championship lead, are though it is his closest rival who

will gain seven points. Bruno Senna is still trying to get past Nico

Hulkenberg. He was held up as he tried to accelerate off the corner.

What does this David Jenson Button he was trying to battle for the

final point? Bruno Senna will have the position as they run into a

end goes from running in ninth place to 11th. We are on to the

final lap and the Red Bull guys are running out of the garage already.

Mark Webber surely has this one under control? Who can forget

Vettel lost a dominant lead a couple of weeks ago when the

alternate overheated. I don't think this is going to overheat. Mark

Webber has driven beautifully for start pre-qualified second to

Alonso by only a few hundredths of a second. They have both been the

dominant forces in the dry today. Great work by the team. They had so

little data to know how to work the strategy, but it has worked out

perfectly. They had a run of propositions up until yesterday,

Red Bull. So the data they rely on is a bit hysterical and just

unleashing the potential of the car, Mark Webber almost gave them pole

position. It was five 100th of the second. As he enters the corner

with the chequered flag in sight, surely this is going to be another

victory for the Australian question mark through Club corner, he is

going to win the British Grand Prix for the second time in three years

or start the is also our second repeat winner of 2012. Mark Webber

takes victory, Alonso second, Vettel makes a two Red Bull cars on

the podium. What a team achievement that is after some difficult times

earlier in the season. Massa is 4th. Like last year, Massa had to battle

tyre in the first two stints. It just ran out of grip. Mark Webber

was able to pounce. He is a great wheel-to-wheel racer. Very

deliberately on does his head and neck protection. You could see that

charity. Lewis Hamilton may not have won this Grand Prix but he

said he would celebrate. He does a doughnut for the fans and I think

that is the least they deserve as after this weekend. If he gets a

what a useful points advantage this will give Red Bull even further

recovered over the last couple of weeks and we are now fighting for

victory in the last three or four races. We are in the right

target for us. And today, I think we lost seven points with Mark

Webber but we gained extra points with the rest of the field. It was

an very intensive championship point for us. This young man who

was a good race. Yes... It was interesting. I lost a little bit at

the start and I lost possession to Felipe Massa and I had a tough time

in the beginning. I nearly got past but it was close. It was fun but I

did not get past. We then brought the right strategy to come back

which was the right thing but later on you still have extra on the

tyres. Very happy. Mark Webber deserved to win. Very happy for the

tame and thank you for all the fans out there. It was quite or rubble,

the last two days, especially for them. Today, the sun came out and

the British summer was shown at its best. And look forward to coming

is a Great British event and a great race and we had great weather

asked Mark Webber to maintain the gap and the bridge that gap. What

were the emotions like? It was flat out because we elected to start on

the soft tyres and we thought it was the right thing and we were

surprised to see Fernando Alonso on the hard tyres. The strategy worked

well for us. And Mark Webber was quick when he needed to be. And

that pass in the end was fantastic. It seems like he has been reborn.

Earlier in the week he did not seem... He talked about other teams,

he felt so relaxed. He demonstrated that today? He has been in great

form this year. He has had a very positive when had he is enjoying

driving again. His performance has been very strong. 2 When the Monaco

Grand Prix and now in Silverstone, just up the road from where he

lives, and to have Sebastian Vettel as well, a fantastic result. Great

fantastic. The weather we have had, we had sunshine in the race, it has

been the most brilliant weekend with support from one of the fans,

despite the conditions. The great thing about this race is they

marketplace. Why would Mark Webber go anywhere else? He is leading, he

has that leading position in the drivers' championship and we know

that can change quickly but he is winning Grand Prixs and he has got

great talent. They have the perfect driver. Well done, Mark. And they

couple of days and everybody has forgotten about it. Smiles on every

single race! I think Mark Webber lives closest to this race than

anybody else. This is a Ferrari man, we have Frankie Dettori! It was a

great day for Ferrari? Not too bad, we were in front with three laps to

go but the competition was too strong. Not many people thought he

would get to the final and you are leading the championship with

Fernando Alonso. When were you start winning some classics? I am

doing OK! Italy got beat in the final at Fernando Alonso just got

A fantastic day for Mark Webber, he cut Fernando Alonso and overtook

him but it was a struggle for McLaren, particularly Lewis

Hamilton. He did not have the pace. Here are his thoughts... But the

result you wanted but he celebrated at the end, regard as? I'll get in

trouble for it but what the hill? Jake Humphrey has would pay the

fine! He did say that... -- said he would pay. I wish we could have

given more to the fans. But we pushed and I pushed as hard as I

could, I was flat out, ride to the end. For some reason, I did not

the same throughout? We had to have the balance to make the tyres last.

The balance was not bad because I was in the lead at one point, I was

the one who pitted. After that, we did not have the pace of the others

to continue to improve. We thought we would do better this weekend

with the downforce package but obviously not. Were his McLaren in

comparison to Red Bull? We are a long way away. Yes. What we will

keep working at it and hopefully will catch up. Does Hamilton doing

his best to smile. It was a difficult day because the pace was

not in the car. Very honest and forthright. It is Red Bull and

Ferrari leading the way, now? never say never in this business

because things change quickly. McLaren have a lot of Updates that

they need now, not next week, they need them now. The next race is

Germany, that is a big race. Other races will start flying by so

quickly that they will lose touch with the leaders. And then it would

be curtains. I feel that it is Red Bull and Ferrari, they both looked

very strong. We can stop you, the cars lined up. This is the car that

many people believe was the quickest at the start? It won the

first race. Is it just that everybody else has a developed

drove well, and if he had qualified well he could have driven at the

going to rain. But it turned out to be a magnificent day. As a result

its favoured those who qualified well yesterday. Hamilton doing his

best to keep the car going forward, and Jenson Button, it was always

going to be a struggle from were he qualified. He would have seen the

blue sky and been disappointed? would have been. The rain would

have given him a great opportunity to make more places. But he did get

a point, not a bad result from 18th on the grid. But not what he would

have to expect. How does Jenson Button feel about this? Let's find

out. So hard fought for one point? I do not think we did any wrong

strategies. I did not make any mistakes and they gave everything

and I was surprised to be that far down. Our car does not feel too bad,

but everybody else must feel so good because they are much faster

than us. Williams and Sauber, they make mistakes and get away with it.

I don't understand how stop it is a bit frustrating for Lewis and

myself. We have got to pull together and make some progress for

the next race in Germany. It was disappointing in front of the home

crowd to have been amazing over the whole weekend with the different

weather conditions. It has been tough for them, and we wanted to

put on a better show for them. Sorry for that, hopefully next time.

Lewis feels the McLaren is far behind the Red Bull. Where do you

think you are missing out? I did not race the Red Bull, I was racing

Lotus, Williams and a few other teams. For example, the Sauber is

quicker in a high-speed corner than us. Williams is better in low-speed

corners than us. It is tricky. We don't seem to be exceptionally

strong anywhere at the moment. We did think we would be here. It is a

high-speed circuit and we think it is one of our strengths. A lot of

data to go through this evening. There will be some unhappy people

in the team which is always the way after a race like this. But we are

one of the best teams in the world and we can fight through this.

CHEERING. Can you explain to the fans at home,

you win the Grand Prix in Melbourne in fantastic style, but the form

has not been there for the whole team. How can you explain that?

have had a couple of bad weekends. We have tried new things for the

car and they have not worked. I have big degradation, so I cannot

look after the tyres. We have been working on that and it has improved.

But we generally don't have the pace, it is not just me or my

balance. Hopefully we can sort it out. McLaren will do everything

they can to get back to winning ways. What do you think of Jenson

Button? He is the best driver out there, he has had a run of bad luck

just now but he will be back on form. Plenty of races left for him

to get it back. Every faith in the man, every phase. A recognised that

as a northern accent. It is worth speaking to the both of you about

this, Jenson Button has the temperament to drive around these

problems, stick with the team and that is what he is talking about,

Eddie? He is a brilliant team player. What he is doing, I'm sure

it is hurting out there. He did a good drive today, got a point,

brought the car home. Now they can start making it better. But the car

itself hasn't got the speed. We cannot just plain Jenson Button. He

has had a difficult couple of races, but he can get that back. We talk
