The Hungarian Grand Prix - Highlights Formula 1

It is not the easiest car I drove. At the moment we're not picking up.

I think the car is just generally poor. We struggled a lot with the

car at the beginning. You are the boss, it is not good

enough, really is it? Absolutely. I am not happy.

Fernando Alonso takes the victory. It was beautiful. I am still not

happy with the performance of the carpm Alonso only ninth this time.

It is hopeless. Alonso is second. What an

achievement. Ferrari made huge steps forward.

Ferrari are achieving something. Fernando Alonso is the first repeat

winner of 2012. Fernando Alonso His third win of 2012.

Well, Fernando Alonso is the birthday boy today, but who would

have thought in pre-season testing that David, ten races into the

championship and he would be at the top? Well, very few people is the

answer to that apart from Ferrari. They never lost faith and Fernando

is remarkable. He led that team from the front. They have worked on

the car and they have developed it.. Fernando was saying they think they

found three seconds. How impressive is that? And how much hard work

would that be? I was talking to Gary Anderson. He thinks a lot of

it is down to the sidepods. They have done it. So the question is

can the other teams do it? That's the question. All that hard work

means that Fernando Alonso is leading the drivers championship by

34 points from Mark Webber. Behind Mark Webber is Sebastian Vettel.

Jenson Button is seventh. In the constructors, Red Bull lead, but

that development from Ferrari sees them closing the gap and Lotus are

desperate for their first win and they are fourth.

We had a dry qualifying session yesterday, but there were surprises.

Here is Ben Edwards. After two recent top three

qualifying performance in the wet, the dry conditions didn't suit fer

seed yeses. seed yeses.

-- Mercedes. Schumacher starts 17th. Perhaps the

biggest scalp of Q2 was Mark Webber. He had to sit and watch whilst he

was squeezed out of the top ten. With Maldonado producing a similar

lap, we have two Williams in the top ten. The final stages saw

Hamilton lay down the gauntlet and no one could match him. Alonso

could only manage sixth. Sebastian Vettel lost second place as Romain

Grosjean earned his front row start in the Lotus. It was McLaren's

eighth front row victory, but they have won more races than any other

team. So Hamilton and Grosjean are

upfront then Sebastian Vettel with Jenson Button in fourth place.

Fifth is Raikkonen, Alonso is joined by Massa and the two

Williams. Nico Hulkenberg made the top ten and the Force India's

sandwich Mark Webber, Rosberg is only 14th. Jean-Eric Vergne

David, it was an impressive lap for Lewis Hamilton. McLaren have

delivered. It looked like they were trying to understand their upgrades,

but around this Budapest circuit, they have really come alive and

that was a stunning pole position from Lewis Hamilton yesterday.

Romain Grosjean, he is always smiling, but he is second? Lotus

have been threatening to win a race. They have been coming strong at the

end. Watch out for him in the run to the first corner.

You are going to speak to the drivers. The drivers are on the

grid behind me and the tension is building and soon we're going to

Seb, as you cool off there, in qualifying it always looked that

the McLaren had extra pace, but they are harder on their tyres, so

your feelings going into the Grand Prix? We will see. It will be a

long race. It is quite hot as you can see. So yeah, we will see in

the race. Our pace should be good. Hopefully the McLarens will

struggle with their tyres, but they had a strong pace all weekend so

yeah, I think they are the ones to beat. They are the favourites going

into this race, but as we have seen many times this year, the races are

long and there is a lot of things that can happen until the end.

You must feel confident being on the clean side of the grid and your

starts have been good recently? Hopefully it it turns out to be an

advantage. We missed second place yesterday, so now we are starting

from third and hopefully it helps us to as you said, start on the

clean side. Good luck.

I am I am with Romain Grosjean. Congratulations on your best

qualifying of the year. You are alongside one of the most forceful

drivers in Formula One. How aggressive are you going to be with

Lewis? In the perfect world we would be in front of him and it

would be easier. There is 70 laps and it is very hot. The tyres maybe

a surprise. So I think it is not only the first corner.

Well, the best of luck. Thank you.

Jenson, I have only noticed that you come to the grid in trainers,

that's purely for comfort? Yeah, I mean, as you know, race boots have

a thin sole and I get get through quite a few pairs. We are trying to

save them, we are on a tight budget here!

It is your best qualifying since Bahrain. This must set you you up

for another good race? It wasn't the best qualifying. But it shows

the pace of the car and Lewis putting it on pole. I don't know

what's going to happen with the weather. They say it is going to

rain at 2pm, but I can't see that personally. It is a good thing. I

think it is good if it it stays dry. It is difficult from this side of

the grid because there is more dust. We have had rain overnight and that

should help us off the line and there is all to play for as they

say. Well, play well.

Well, the Hungarian Grand Prix rarely disappoints and we could be

set for a fantastic race. So let's sit back and enjoy it in the

company of David Coulthard and Ben on the formation lap, but alongside

him 26-year-old Romain Grosjean who must be dreaming of a potential

first win. Hamilton needs to grasp this

opportunity in order to reduce his deficit in the points. They are

using the soft and medium compound tyres in Hungary this weekend. The

front-runners are on the soft tyre because that's what they qualified

on. Mark Webber has gone for the medium tyre to start this race on.

So a little bit of strategy playing its part as ever. Gary, what can we

expect from the strategy in today's race? Yeah, I'm surprised there

wasn't a few more went on the medium tyre there because this

weather hanging over us, everybody keeps saying it is going to rain.

They want to do as many laps as possible. It gives Webber an

opportunity and he can go to the medium tyre. If he needs to run the

of the race, you are going to see a variety of twos and threes. I am

not sure anyone will go for the one stop.

DAVID COULTHARD: Normally the option tyre will give you a start

advantage off the line because if it was a fresh tyre and the top ten

are starting in the tyres they qualified with. Mark Webber sitting

in 11th feeling that a new prime, the white wall tyre is going to

negate that disadvantage if you like, so interesting. We will see

how that strategy plays out as the mechanics do the last thing you

need in these warm conditions which is sprint back to the pit boxes.

The detection zone here. The activation zone as they come on to

the start/finish straight, but it isn't a long start/finish. Lewis

Hamilton is coming around to take pole position and Romain Grosjean

the first Frenchman on the grid since 198 and we have Vettel and

Button and Raikkonen and Alonso on row number three. Row four will see

Felipe Massa and Maldonado and row five is Senna and Nico Hulkenberg.

Mark Webber starting in 11th and Paul di Resta 12th. Kobayashi 15th

and Jean-Eric Vergne and Michael Schumacher down in 17th and it is

Ricciardo, Vitaly Petrov and and pique and Peek. And each team with

one driver who finished second in Hungary in the past.

DAVID COULTHARD: DAVID COULTHARD: Romain Grosjean

stopped short of his yellow marker so he is already giving away a

couple of feet in the run to the first corner.

They are getting into position. The starter Charlie Whiting will see

this and once we get the signal from the back of the field we go

into the count down sequence for the start of the Hungarian Grand

Prix. We have an aborted start by the looks of it will. He has

aborted the start. Gary, what would have been the cause, do you think

of that aborted start? Well, if there is one of the cars in the

wrong position or one of the cars at the back had a problem. We have

to wait and see if everybody gets away, but if you look, it may have

been Romain Grosjean. I am sure they will highlight it. There is

yellow flags waving in the background.

I think that's Schumacher's car, that could be the cause. You saw

Grosjean wasn't in the right spot, but perhaps it is a stalled car.

The message got through to Charlie Whiting and Michael Schumacher's

weekend isn't getting any better. He had a crash on Friday and when

they were aborting that start, we didn't see a signal from Schumacher,

normally the driver will raise his hands and the marshal will pick up

on it and whether that was a wave and the marshal noticed it and the

message got to Charlie, to a disappointed Ross Brawn. Michael

Schumacher's weekend got worse. a crash on Friday and poor

qualifying. He got caught out in the dust of Maldonado.

Lewis Hamilton looking for win number three. That would match

Ayrton Senna's record at this track, but we know how fast that car is.

Is it going to look after its tyres well enough, David? Well, the tyre

has a curing effect. We see we see Michael getting ready to get

restarted. TEAM RADIO: There was' yellow flag.

Michael, you are going to start down there and start in the pit

lane. An agitated sounding Michael

Schumacher. I couldn't really hear what he was

saying, but a message from the engineers saying we will start

there and drive down to the pit lane and he will sit and wait and

thankfully for him the cars are coming around on to the grid so he

will not sit there heating the engine for too long, but the

consequence of a second formation lap is the tyres will have lost

more temperature. So the risk running into the first corner with

cold tyres and cold brakes is definitely heightened and that

gives more opportunity for an incident in turn one.

So for the second time of asking, the grid lines up. You are looking

at Hamilton. He is on the right- hand side. He is on pole position

with Grosjean and on the left behind them, of course, it is

Vettel in the Red Bull and Jenson Button with that much better

qualifying performance. The race distance reduced by one lap, having

done an extra formation lap so there will be a 69 race as opposed

to 70. The two HRTs of de la Rosa we go and Hamilton getting off the

line well. Vettel gets in front of button. Raikkonen not far behind.

Vettel trying to go round the outside into turn one. Can't quite

do it. Grosjean holding on to second for the moment as Hamilton

leads. Getting squeezed out by button.

Vettel's got the faved inside line. When it twos right, Button might be

able to get third place. Great reactive driving from Button.

Vettel tried to go outside of Grosjean. Vettel has to go

defensive for Alonso so not a great start from the Red Bull but great

start from Jenson. He saw the opportunity.

Webber has had a brilliant start. Excellent stuff for him. But Alonso

in the middle of that pack. Raikkonen is behind. Senna eighth

ahead of his team-mate Maldonado who is ninth. This track favours

one side as opposed to the other at the start and it certainly accepted

Senna as opposed to Maldonado. Webber is coming through. Brilliant

start there for Webber, exactly what he needed after that difficult

qualifying yesterday. He set the pace. Rosberg is under attack from

Maldonado. That is for 11th position.

Rosberg had to two defensive. He'll have picked up dust on the tyres

but Maldonado's had to two defensive for Perez which has given

Rosberg crucial space. You do not want someone close as you go out of

the last corner. Hamilton leads by 1.4 seconds from Button. Raikkonen

behind. The car is quick. Team Radio: Press OK twice, the

battery is a bit low... Was that just to get the tyres out

of the way? He was starting on the option tyre I believe, unless I'm

reading that wrong. Michael's got that stop out of the way. The only

pole for him this afternoon would be the pit lane investigation for

speeding. It just is not working for Michael around hundred hundred

ring. Not according to plan for him but

it is for Hamilton at the moment. Initial advantage of 1.4 seconds,

although he's keeping it about the same as Grosjean in second position.

Button is there in third. Then Vettel in fourth. Alonso, then

Raikkonen and Webber who's not far behind. The second of the Red Bulls.

Senna is eighth. Massa is ninth. Hulkenberg is tenth for the Force

India. Maldonado is 12th. Ricciardo 15th. Kovalainen 16th. Petrov,

Kobayashi is well done. Kobayashi is down in 19th place. And you are

watching Raikkonen chasing down Alonso in the Ferrari. The

Championship leader, of course, is Alonso after such a brilliant run

in this mid part of the season but a bit of work to do here. He'll be

pleased he's gained one spot from his position and he's in the hunt

chasing after Vettel. Raikkonen will apply the pressure. No doubt

this car has been fast all weekend and Raikkonen is looking as though

he's back at his World Championship winning best kind of form. Lovely

shot through turn four. Conditions are ideal.

Nine seconds slower than in qualifying now. Partly that's

helped of course by DRS. One second off the pace feels like

a lifetime to a Grand Prix drive. Can't imagine what nine seconds

feels like. Massa running a touch wide there holding on to ninth

place. Won't be happy about the start he made. If you look at the

grid photographic, you can see that Hamilton maintained position.

Grosjean gained one, Vettel lost one. Webber is the big star of the

start because he gained fourth Schumacher for speeding in the pit

lane. The two that Russians going through the back -- the two

Marussians. Glock is 23rd. Schumacher's way, way down the

field. Let's try and understand what

happened to Massa. You can' straightaway that Williams and

Senna passed him. Grosjean goes defensive on the right hand side,

Vettel tries to get around the outside. Grosjean fairly takes his

racing line. Vettel has to lift out of the throttle, Button pounces and

then in turn two, this is what was a skilful peace of driving because

Jenson hung on on the outside. As he ran into three, he's got the

position. On board with Senna and this is what it looks like to chase

and quite wisely goes defensive on the run-down into turn one on the

outside. Tries to go on the outside for now. Here is Vettel. Seemed to

bog slightly. His head goes forward. Defensive. Picks up the slipstream

of Grosjean. Renault power versus Renault power. Better on the brakes.

Look at Lewis Hamilton, we hadn't picked up just how wide he went. He

didn't really need to be that brave with his lead. Kobayashi did

everything he could not to lose his front wing. In the end, Rosso ran

him wide runs off the circuit. This was the view on board with

Button. This was as the battle went on between Vettel and Grosjean.

this stage it's not looking like he has the opportunity but the moment

Vettel has to lift out of the power on the exit of turn two, then it's

all there for him to take and he would be like, thank you very much.

Remarkably clean start when you consider they are running side by

side through turn one and two and it only gets to single file at turn

three. That was Glock a while ago. Both HRTs got past him. That's why

Glock is running down towards the tale of the feld. Upfront, not much

difference -- tail or the field. Lap times are still improving. That

was a lock up for Raikkonen there. Lewis Hamilton comes out on to the

start finish straight and the gap this time is 2.1 sckonds. Let's

is happening with Vettel. In Germany last time out, we saw the

battle between Vettel and the boundaries of circuit. Lacking over

the rear wing there, back at Raikkonen, not much change. I guess

we can expect a little bit of stalemate in this early part of the

race. We do have a car in, Kobayashi's come in. I guess the

stalemate is to be expected to a certain extent? Yes, but I have to

say, the lap times are stabilising a bit. Kobayashi just come through

and changed tyres to the medium compound. So this is the

interesting stage now, the middle section. It's one of the ones that,

because it's got high speed at aerodynamic, it will stay steady.

It's all about traction. Unusual Kobayashi coming in early. He

throws himself in amongst the traffic by Petrov. That would mean

he's considering a three stop this afternoon. We believe most would

look at a two stop and in clean air. Kobayashi now 1.4 seconds behind

Petrov is going to find that the pit stop is going to lose him some

time. Particularly when Sauber goes on those tyres. There is the team-

mate behind Maldonado. He's running in 1th. When you were talking us

through the replays, I noticed that Maldonado was kaifl through the

first couple of corners. -- careful. He's learned lessons. He has an

attacking driving style. That's what allowed hum to win the Spanish

Grand Prix and in true world champion potential style.

The team have been working with them. They've calmed down a little

bit. He's riding outside the points at the moment in 12th. He needs to

find a few positions to get him the points. He's only scored on two

occasions this tkwreer. That victory in Spain and earlier on in

the year -- this year. Kartikeyan being passed by Kobayashi for 21st

position. Kobayashi has been in the pits and getting past the Indian

driver in the HRT. Kovalainen, Petrov, running ahead of the

Marussians. They're always at a disadvantage when it comes to

overtaking and no doubt Kobayashi was using his energy system to full

effect. On board with Lewis Hamilton, looking at some ties

smooth, consistent driving. Yes, he'll feel comfortable -- some nice

smooth, consistent driving. He knows provided he doesn't make a

mistake, he can try and manage the tyres and control things. He'll be

watching very much the gap to Grosjean and trying to see, he

knows his Lotus historically has been very good. Grosjean's keeping

him honest, matching him pretty much lap time for lap time and this

is the race right now because they are dropping Button who's running

about six tenths of a second of a lap slower, the gap between Button

and Hamilton was about half a second. That's giving these guys at

the front a bit of a buffer. A very interesting point of the race now,

we are just on lap 11 about to go on to 12 and this is the sort of

area that people will be coming in if they are going to make a three

stop race. Those guys who want to to it on two stops need to go

deeper before they make that stop. As you say, it's time not to

improve now which indicates where the tyre is going. Looking at the

replay of that move on Le Da Rosa at that time, so DRS in operation

there. That puts him in 0th now. -- 20th. Team Radio: Jenson. Pulling

away from target one. Button holds on to his third place and has

opened the gap to 1.4 seconds now. Replay of Button, a bit of

oversteer up through turn four, David? That's a blind entry. As I

explained, ever changing performance of the cars. You can

see the McLaren McAn nicks heading to the pit lane, so this will be

for Button. He's in the pit lane, so that radio message would have

been an old message of course, doesn't get played to us live, so

that releases Vettel. He has to push now. If Vettel can deliver a

couple of laps, increase performance, he can do the pit stop.

McLaren's pit stops are fantastic, blink and you miss them. That was

crucial for Button getting into second place. We have some more

people coming in, Hulkenberg is in, as is Maldonado. A lot of action on

lap 16. You could get a two stop race out of this but it's early.

Hulkenberg out again looking at the dice that's going on here. Button's

in front of Perez. Button just in front of Perez. It will be bottom

end of the top ten once we have cycled through some of the pit

stops. Vettel's responded a 31-1. He would have not needed the

message from his engineer, he would have seen Button pitted. He has to

use up his tyres now and the question is whether he can do a few

more laps to redaus the two second gap that was less than two seconds

actually -- Le deuce. Button in front of Perez -- reduce. No sign

of Hamilton nor Grosjean coming in the pits, although Grosjean put it

down to 2.0 seconds on that lap. Vettel in third having stayed out

there. Button certainly the first to blink at the front runners. The

other question is to try and think how deep will Webber go. He started

on a harder compound tyre. He's moved up to six. Senna is in pit

lane in the Williams. Maldonado we saw last time around, Senna in on

lap 17. I think this is fantastic stuff. Grosjean keeping Hamilton

honest. This is his big chance to show, as Rosberg gets released

there, can't be released until the Force India's cleared him and he's

going to slot in there behind Caterham, but what I was saying is,

I think this is a great opportunity for Lotus and Grosjean to show what

they can do. Maldonado just getting past Petrov. Hulkenberg already

done it and Maldonado was determined to do it before they

bit into Hamilton's lead. If he can continue to keep that pressure on

him then... TEAM RADIO: Let's use this clear

air and get clear of Vettel. They have got Jenson and they have

got him out in a good space. There is a good gap to Massa who is

further up the road. Now Sebastian Vettel is going to be coming in, we

think. We have got the Red Bull out in the

pit lane and Ferrari are in the pit lane. Button is on new new primes

that and there give him an opportunity to really hit this lap

and will Vettel had done enough to get in front of Button?

Let's see. Alonso is on his way as well. Where is Jenson Button?

Sebastian Vettel, Vettel coming down the pit lane and Button is on

the right and Button ahead of Sebastian Vettel as he gets down

into turn one and therefore, no no change and Sergio Perez is that who

is ahead of Alonso? Yes, it is. And Perez not not being in the pits yet.

Raikkonen Has just done the fastest first sector. He was released from

running in the the dirty air Sebastian Vettel interestingly has

gone for the softer tyre, Button is on the harder compound tyre. Gary,

let's listen. TEAM RADIO: Jenson, good job. Plan

A and target lap. Plan A and target lap. Raikkonen

has gone fastest in the firs sector and Hamilton is coming in. How many

laps can Grosjean stay out there is it worthwhile for him to do so?

Let's see, it is the harder of the two compounds going on. Oh, oh, it

is a slow get away. They seem to make, what happened there? Well,

the right side of the car was fine, was there something on the left

side of the car or was the lights not released? The driver has the

lights in front of him and that could prove costly. Grosjean was

just under the two second window when he passed last time so it is

all down to whether Grosjean can do a couple of clean laps before he

has to pit. It is Grosjean who has come into

the pits from the lead of the race. So Romain Grosjean has been leading

the Grand Prix. Now he is looking at a slick pit stop to turn him

around and get him on his way. He has gone for the softer tyre. Oh a

delay for him as well. About the same I would say. Maybe a fraction

shorter today, where is Hamilton? He has gone past our pit box so he

is well clear. So no change between the top two

and Grosjean comes out maybe having lost a bit? Lotus were forced to

pit because the HRT were in front of them. The best will in the world,

trying to lap a slower car. Alonso is trying to show Perez, "Look mate,

I'm there. Let me past." As he locks up into turn one.

Alonso needs to get past this assault and battery this Sauber. Oh

another lock-up for Alonso. Mansell famously overtook here. Up the hill,

he to do that quickly. Well, great reactive driving there.

TEAM RADIO: KERS four. Most people have got prime, Mark, we will do

the same. Do you still want the same flap adjustment? Yes, I do.

Understood. He is running in second place

because Grosjean has been into the pits. Let's see that passing

manoeuvre. This was Alonso. DAVID COULTHARD: Perez gets wide on

to the artificial grass. Alonso, I suspect, would have released KERS

and probably 1 100 erst of it to - 100% of it to get the boost up to

four. Clean track ahead. Let's see if Lotus can do a better job? Yes,

a tidier pull away. Away Mark Webber has been in as well. They

asked him about the same flap adjustment. So depending on whether

the driver has under steered or over steered. Does this get him out

behind Alonso, crucially it has kept him this front of the Red Bull.

On board with Sebastian Vettel who is behind Jenson Button as we saw

in the early part of this race. Romain Grosjean the fastest in the

first sector, straightaway. Sorry ben, he is running Four

tenths of a lap quicker than the McLaren. As he gets into the dirty

air of that McLaren he has to try and effect a pass early in the life

of the tyres otherwise he is going to find himself running in a

situation losing downforce and increasing brake temperatures and

engine temperatures and all of that compounds the fact that you can't

run to your true pace. I wonder how much further we are

going to see anybody run. Well, Webber made his pit stop. Grosjean

is on the softer compound tyre. Lotus as they did in Germany last

time out, a different strategy to the others, but Red Bull follow

that had strategy by going for a second set of the softer tyre. So

if you got a new set of the soft tyres then that's an advantage, but

most of them had used all their new tyres in qualifying so we expected

them to use the harder compound tyre, but Grosjean is flying and he

is chasing Hamilton upfront. Hamilton leads the race. This is

Bruno Senna trying to go around the outside of Sergio Perez. That looks

like a brave place to pass, but he pulled it off very, very well. And

out of grip. He is in the pits. He couldn't fight anymore off. That

was a moment ago as Senna went past. There is Jenson Button no change

between them. The gap upfront. 1.7 seconds as Grosjean managed to put

in a faster lap than Lewis Hamilton once again. It is a bit of a yo-yo

this gap from Romain Grosjean to Lewis Hamilton. Another half a

second. Let's see what this lap is like as well because he has gained

a bit on the first and second sectors. He is closer once more.

1.7, goes to 1.2, the gap between them.

DAVID COULTHARD: Hamilton will be controlling the pace. Like wise

with Button there. BEN EDWARDS: The prime being the

harder of the two tyres. The question always is can they go

so far on that tyre? Can they do so deep into the race?

DAVID COULTHARD: Well, if you were doing a pure two stop you would be

looking around lap 47 in terms of splitting up the race equally, but

that would have presumed the first stop in the early 20s. The first

stop was earlier. We can expect them to hang on for another ten

laps or so before we see them coming in again.

Sergio Perez a minor lock-up into turn one. He is running in 15th

place. He is chasing the Torro Rosso of Daniel Ricciardo and quite

possibly the Sauber here are trying to go for a two stop race while

some of the leaders might be going early stop in this race, but he

hasn't been back in for a second stop and the Japanese driver is

down in 16th place. Jean-Eric Vergne in the other Torro Rosso is

17 17th and Vitaly Petrov and Charles Pic. Perez would like to

get himself back into 14th place which is where we started. That's

the battle for third. Let's listen to Vettel.

TEAM RADIO: Do something. DAVID COULTHARD:

DAVID COULTHARD: "do something." It means get me in clean air. As soon

as they know they can pit and get back out on track. They will be

looking at where would the drop Vettel out if they pitted now. If

there is too much traffic, they have no choice, but to hope that

Button pits first. McLaren will be controlling it, waiting, taking

their tyres as long as they can and hoping that Red Bull pit and then

they can react. McLaren very much in control of this Grand Prix for

for first place and third place. They don't have to do anything.

TEAM RADIO: We know what you mean Sebastian, we're working on it.

Try something. Try something. are cars behind Sebastian, we can't

just try anything, we're looking at They are working on a plan! Just

get on with your job and we'll do ours is the implication.

That's Rocky, Sebastian's engineer saying, "We know what you mean,

pal: You have no option, traffic is there. There is not a window.".

Look at the gap. Hamilton just 0.9 of a second over Romain Grosjean so

within the DRS distance of the McLaren. What is so different this

weekend, David, to Hockenheim where they raced in Germany was it was

relatively easy to use the DRA. There is a long curving straight.

Overtaking in Hockenheim was easy, but here it is very, very difficult.

This is like Monte Carlo and the graphic we had as Grosjean runs

wide showed that Grosjean had already used more of his KERS on

this lap than Hamilton so Hamilton very wisely storing up that KERS,

using it, if he needs to defend because of course, with Grosjean

who is losing the back end on the exit of turn six, the chicane.

TEAM RADIO: We think we have to switch to Plan B. We think we have

to and it will be Plan B, target lap.

They are struggling for grip, but they are trying to defend from

Vettel. Vettel is capable of faster. Sebastian Vettel was three tenths

faster in the first sector alone now and that just shows the pace

that that Red Bull has compared to the McLaren. Button definitely

struggling and they maybe changing the plan here, not just yet, we're

on lap 32 out of 69 as Grosjean, 1.3 seconds behind Hamilton again

on this lap. So he just dropped back a fraction and there are the

top two. Then the lapped car of Charles Pic and third and fourth,

Button and Vettel. It may look like there is not a lot

of action, but for me this is really exciting as we see a replay

at turn four of Grosjean running wide. Just getting ragged. Every

time you take the car into an area, there is debris and the consequence

you see he runs wide again. Now we have seen punctures this weekend so

running wide is extremely risky. Right, so Button had to come in.

That releases Sebastian Vettel and he has gone on to the softer, the

option tyre. So that's a change of plan as we heard it and you would

have expected them perhaps to stay with the harder compound tyre, but

in he comes on lap number 34 and well, that could, that is looking

like a three stop race for Jenson Button because they are half the

race to go here and he made two pit stops. So you would expect to see

him come back in at some point. He comes out Senna.

What can Vettel do now? TEAM RADIO: We think we may need to

go to Plan B. We may need to go to Plan B.

That's the second time we heard that from McLaren. Andy talking to

Lewis Hamilton. The pressure is on. The option, the softer tyre is

holding up extremely well despite track temperatures of 45 Celsius.

And Vettel is responding to having clean air in front him. He has done

a personal best middle sector 31.5 which compares to Hamilton running

a 31.9. Vettel has to put in a couple of fast laps before he pits

to clear Button. So Alonso leading Webber. These two

had a big old battle at Silver stone. Vettel has set the fastest

lap, 1.26.5 and now he has released Sebastian Vettel, he is on a charge.

A good opportunity this for Vettel to take third place from Jenson

Button once all this has settled down. The question is can he go

chasing after the leaders? And there is no reason why not. He is

only five seconds behind Grosjean, Sebastian Vettel and there is a

chance of of closing that up. A lock-up from Button behind Senna.

Let's see a replay of Perez running wide in the run into turn 12. 12 is

one of the fastest corners on the track after turn four, picking up

debris. When Vettel pits, if he puts on another set of options, he

has to stop again this afternoon. If he did pick up a set of the of

the white wall Prime Ministers they could eek it out to the end of the

Grand Prix. Button has got a problem on his

hands here, Gary, hasn't he, he is trying to use the softer tyre to go

quickly, but he has a fast Williams ahead.

It depends how fast that Williams is because he is going to be

trapped behind Senna. Senna isn't going to give anything up and

Button will be getting affected by it so he has to look at that and

what Vettel is doing is faster than that.

Well, Hamilton is our race race leader here from Grosjean by 1.2

seconds. Vettel is now in third place with Button having stopped.

Raikkonen has just gone fastest with, he is in fourth place, Alonso

is in fifth and Kimi Raikkonen, there is an opportunity perhaps to

try and get past Jenson Button through this round of pit stops as

well and he has done a 1.26.3. Alonso fifth, Webber sixth, Button

- I suppose it's the body language of the car ahead of you to see if

the car is in trouble and needs new tyres. Jenson Button's frustration

builds as he gets towards Senna. This is not helping his cause.

Playing into the hands of Vettel. He's losing valuable time to both

Vettel and Raikkonen in this situation but Senna's doing

everything he should do, that's to fight for his place, drive round,

stay out of trouble. He's holding on to an excellent seventh is Senna.

He needs good results because it's been a tough season for him. He's

trying to prove himself. Button struggling to find a way past the

Williams Renault. Raikkonen still going quickly, by the way. Still

setting some sector times that are fast. In fact he's set another new

fastest lap in the Lotus. He's got to gap down to two-and-a-half

seconds to Vettel. Not only Vetteled that focus to jump Button,

he's now in the situation where... Team Radio: Not moving out of the

damn way... Understood. Lewis Hamilton's been trying to get past.

Button can't find a way past the Williams. Senna is a bit wide there.

Great grips for Button on the tyres but can't make yus of them. One man

who is making use is Raikkonen -- make use of them. We are seeing

again this Lotus seems to come alive as the fuel burns off and the

tyres and the track rubbers in, then they do have great pace

towards the end of the race. Grosjean only 0.7 of a second off

the last lap. No doubt the one losing out is Button. Chunks of

time. Gary, you have been monitoring that and it's not just a

couple of tenths is it? No, Button lost six tenths in the last lap to

Vettel and 1.2 to Raikkonen. So it's not terribly good. Vettel into

the pit so this is crucial for Vettel. Will he get out ahead of

Button? He's running the harder of the two compounds. Where is Jenson

Button? Still presumably behind Senna. There he is. He's going to

be behind as they come down the straight and Vettel gets out in

front of Senna, gets out with the Caterham of Petrov and Senna is

there. Button's lost that place and that is a big blow to Jenson Button.

The Lotus are coming out of the pit garage and we are going to be

seeing one of them into the pits. I guess it will be Grosjean. Yes, it

is. Into the pits. Let's see what happens. Hamilton's stayed out this

time so interestingly, remember, it was the other way around, a softer

tyre, a shorter sprint length. Grosjean, lap 39. Let's see where

he comes back out. He's behind Alonso. Where's Webber gone? Why is

Webber... Webber has come into the pit lane and Raikkonen is ahead of,

no, sorry that,'s Grosjean still ahead. Let's see where Webber comes

out. He rejoins behind Rosberg and he's on the softer compound. Clean

air on board with Button at turn two. Still trying to find a way

past Senna. A lot quicker on the fresher tyres having done his pit

stops. Senna going defensive. The Williams team feeling that this is

the best strategy for them to leave Senna out there on a slightly warm

set of tyres at this stage of the race. Clean air for Hamilton.

Trying to build you have enough advantage. Still riding with Button

here but it's Hamilton who's working hard to win this race

upfront and putting the laps together. There is Alonso. There is

Vettel. He's only well, a little bit behind. Team Radio: Racing

Vettel, racing Vettel... McLaren are in the pits. Hamilton

comes in from the pit lane and we hear that Grosjean's racing Vettel

so fightering for second rather so Alonso still behind. Raikkonen

leading this race because Health and Safety not made a second pit

stop. -- because he's not made a second pit stop. Button doing a

short stint there. This will be Button's final stop but his third

stop. Senna's come in. McLaren have gone back in the pit so they were

obviously trying to fake a stop and get a reaction there. I wonder if

Williams did react to the McLaren boys coming out because that

release Button, Senna needs to make a second pit stop and he going to

the end of the race. You are allowed to come out and present

yourself for service if the car does come in, you can't

systematically stay in the pit lane because you get in the way of the

other cars. That could be a stunning strategy for McLaren.

Alonso still in third place, but not a real third place. He'll make

another stop. Grosjean, the one who's being hurt by this, a bit

like Button earlier, because he's unable to use the benefit of the

new tyre because he's stuck many the traffic. Hamilton's not miles

up the road, only 2.2 seconds up ahead of them. Raikkonen is 17.8

seconds ahead of vet Sol if he gets a clean stop, he can get out in

front of Vettel and Grosjean who's only 16.9 seconds behind Raikkonen.

Alonso heading in to the pit lane and the Ferrari, he's got de la

Rosa. Ferrari, let's see how they go to work. Consistently very good

in the pit stops. McLaren have been absolutely megarecently, although

they had that glitch earlier. Alonso gets away and they bring

Massa in on the same lap which is gad organisation. Something they

practise in case you have to service both cars. They do it very

well. Doesn't cost Massa any time. Just looking down the times here.

Raikkonen on the last lap has opened the gap to 18 seconds over

Grosjean and Vettel. So he has to be on for coming out in second

place. This is Raikkonen having to put in some great laps. Riding with

Vettel at the moment behind Grosjean and only just behind him.

Webber has jumped Alonso by a margin. We have Alonso going

through turn four and Webber's at the chicane. That's going well for

Red Bull. Webber second in the Championship to Alonso, but he's

gained a place thanks to great strategy and good pace from the Red

Bull car. Totally on the limit is Raikkonen. A former winner here in

Hungary. But he's been on the podium many, many times in the past.

So he's had a great run of results here, but can he do enough? Let's

wait and see. We are going to find out soon. He'll be coming around

this turn and into pit lane. Average middle sector. Still

quicker than this man who will take the lead as Raikkonen pits. But

Grosjean responding and, as Raikkonen comes in, this is all

about team work right now. We talk about no iron team. If he presents

the car to the mechanics well and they service it fantastically, this

is crucial for his Grand Prix. harder tyre goes on, away goes the

Lotus. Now, where is Grosjean and Vettel? Just coming past the

commentary position now. McLaren in the pit lane as well. He's done it.

Grow January is going to hang on. No, you are right. They are side by

side. Don't take each other off. Raikkonen gets it. Grosjean wide.

Mie goodness, that almost ended in tears but Raikkonen was not going

to give way to his team-mate. Fantastic stuff. Brilliant wheel-

to-wheel racing. Didn't look like he had enough momentum on the run

in to turn one but I would suspect he had a boost at the last part.

Great wheel-to-wheel racing, fantastic strategy and a big result

for Raikkonen jumping from fourth to second. Fantastic. Raikkonen up

to second place in the race now. Hamilton leads this one. That was

quite some manoeuvre. Take another look. Button's been in for that

third stop. A problem with the front left, it didn't go on. Look

at this, he presents the car well. Front left is off, doesn't get on,

they don't locate it properly and that holds him up. I was giggling

as you threw to me because I said there's no iron team. I am handed a

piece of paper that says there is an I in Kiwi. We are hearing over

the tracker that Webber's had a message about failure. Maybe we can

have a word on what could fail in the differential, Gary?

situation is controlled by the hydraulics. If the electronics

detect the pressure... Very close to Grosjean. You are racing Kimi.

The team radio there, an old message. Controlled by the

hydraulic pressure and it could shut down the valve because of the

leak in the dif financial. That's Mark Webber's potential problem --

differential. You were spot on about the use of curves there. He

worked that extremely effectively. Let us see what is going on. Di

Resta crossing the line in 13th place. His team-mate is in 11th and

Maldonado is between them, so it's the Williams of Maldonado. This is

on board with Maldonado. He was behind Hulkenberg. He had a little

look at getting past. Hulkenberg gave him space, then there was

contact. Well, you held your breath as he

went on the brakes and here he gets on board from Paul di Resta and he

gets whacked off the circuit. was di Resta, yes, not Hulkenberg.

Di Resta will be on the radio saying, he pushed me off the

circuit. He's a talented young racer but he's note against using

his car as a bit of a battering ramp. Certainly he did so there.

News that there is a drive-through penalty for Maldonado causing a

collision, so the stewards have determined that Maldonado was at

fault. No surprise there. Vettel coming into the pit. That is a

surprise. Let's just see here. He looks up the front as he comes down

to the line to the speed limit area. Stops it in the pit lane and they

obviously feel that they need that third stop to have a fresh set of

tyres in the closing stages of this race.

That will bring him out still in front of Alonso, I believe. You can

see Alonso in the background there as Schumacher passes. Should be

comfortable enough on the run in to turn one. Alonso might try the cut

back. He'll release his curves but Vettel will have the same thing at

his disposal. Will have to go defensive into two. Look at Alonso

going in wide. He's on the outside! Oh, he can't do that and he has to

come out of it! He's still on the attack is Alonso. He is driving so

hard this year and he's trying to take any, any opportunity that

comes his way, but he couldn't make that one go his way and is now

sitting in behind Vettel. This looks like non-finished number six

of the year, Michael Schumacher, have they retired that car because

they were running so far down? I don't know. Looks like that car was

levitating at one point. Schumacher looked like he could walk on water.

Dolly wheels behind the car and it's been pushed into the garage

and he's had a bad run of reliability this season. Second

retirement of this Grand Prix or maybe not. He pulled up. Front left

is damaged. He's looking for a gap in the barrier which is obviously

shown by the orange and he'll switch off and the marshals will

push him in, that should mean that car can get clear and not need a

safety car which would be a disappointing end to this Grand

Prix. Back with Senna. Wide there down at

turn two into turn three down the hill. Slightly climbing back up the

other side. Best result for Senna has been the sixth place he had way

back in Malaysia. Just passed the HRT before turn four. They'll have

waved yellows there. Alonso managed to pass Perez there earlier in the

race but it's not normally someone you would expect -- somewhere you

would expect to see people overtaking. Shouldn't have too much

of an effect as you see Hamilton. The car gets lighter, getting down

to just fumes. Probably have about ten kilos of fuel on board. Just

ahead of them you saw Alonso in fifth. Button is in sixth. Button

has not been able to match his team-mate today. Hamilton has been

in a class of his own all weekend hasn't he, David? Fantastic

qualifying, up the road from anyone, didn't ever look like he was losing

the barrel for a pole and he's controlled this race, the gap looks

tight to Raikkonen but he's controlling it, making his tyres

last the distance. Just done his fastest lap of the race as well

with 125.6. That's the level of control we are seeing from Lewis

and best lap from Webber 1.25 because he had a fresher tyre and

clear air, now he has a lap at the same pace that Senna is doing.

Senna is in control here. Can the Williams go all the way to

the end without those tyres going away? Senna is a very thinking

driver. He know has he has got to do here.

Well, it is an important weekend for Bruno Senna. Seventh place

would be a healthy result. He has been overshadowed in terms of

Maldonado. Look at that win in Barcelona, but he had points more

afternoon than Maldonado because Maldonado has thrown them away

often. That's what they need and Williams in an intense battle in

the constructors championship, they are on 47 points coming into this

race and Force India are only one point behind them so for Williams

this is good news because both of the Force Indias are outside the

points they are running 11th and 12th. We see that the yellow flag

before turn four, with the HRT, will remain before the end of the

race. They feel that car can't be removed

with that front suspension damage and it is off line so it shouldn't

pose any danger to the drivers. There is Raikkonen. That's Grosjean,

sorry. Grosjean is 8.4 seconds behind the battle. He has a 7

second lead to Vettel. Although Vettel has been lapping so

fast, I don't think he has got the time to close up to Grosjean. So it

does look at the moment as though Sebastian Vettel is going to miss

out on a podium finish today. He never won this race in Hungary and

he ain't going to win it this time either. Lewis Hamilton has won it

in the past and right now he is heading for another victory. Over

the line they go. Two laps to go and no difference and frustration

perhaps for Lotus. The only team of the lead teams not to have won a

race so far this year. We're still looking for our eighth different

winner, but it doesn't look as if it is going to be Kimi Raikkonen on

this occasion. Well, if it was, he would be a

popular winner, that's not to take anything away from Lewis who will

be an extremely popular winner. He has had a great deal of success.

Big smiles after qualifying. He was saying how much he loves attacking

the ups and downs. We see a replay of Grosjean at turn four. What's he

been up to? That was past the yellow flag zone. Just a beauty

action shot of the car rather than any mistakes that I can see.

Just the race editor editor deciding, "We will just show you a

few fill-ins because there isn't much overtaking happening.". Just

looking at the drivers championship predictions, lower down, Vettel

would be on 122 and Kimi would be on 116. Alonso would be on top. As

Hamilton comes around. He will be going on to his final lap this time.

Across the line he goes. The gap has been consistent, it is back to

one second. There is no sign of Hamilton's tyres letting go on him.

He seems to have managed it just about perfectly. Raikkonen really

going deep into turn one, trying to close up to the McLaren, trying to

put Hamilton under pressure, but I don't Hamilton is feeling pressure.

The car tracks neatly through the corner. No sign of the back end of

the car moving around. That's the car they are coming up to pass now.

Turns it into turn four. Balanced, beautiful, totally under control.

A dominant display. It doesn't look like it with a one second gap and

it is all about management and super smart performance from Lewis

Hamilton. A great comeback from a fifth place qualifying for Kimi

Raikkonen. Yeah, Raikkonen, as you say, started in fifth place. He

will end up with second position. Great fight with his team-mate

Romain Grosjean which Kimi Raikkonen was able to win only just

as they came out of the pits, but he hasn't been able to pass the

McLaren. If we had been at Hockenheim the story could have

been different, but Lewis Hamilton has driven the way he needed to

here today, a different style to what he did in qualifying where he

could chuck it around over the place, but Lewis Hamilton comes

through to win the Hungarian Grand Prix. It is his second win of the

season. He is the third driver to win more than one race this year.

Raikkonen finishes in second place and it is a double podium for Lotus

as Romain Grosjean's third. And Sebastian Vettel finishes in fourth

place and then we expect to see the championship leader, Fernando

Alonso coming home in fifth place. It is the sixth McLaren win in

Hungary in eight years. They have a truly remarkable record as a team

on this track. Alonso comes through in fifth. Button, a little

disappointed I think in sixth. We will have to see what he says,

Senna and Webber and Massa in ninth with it looks as as though Rosberg

will get the final point in the Mercedes, but Hamilton is winner.

So a super job from him. TEAM RADIO: Lewis, that's a

magnificent drive, mate. A fantastic weekend from start to

finish. Absolutely brilliant mate. Really fantastic. We managed to do

it. I'm so grateful for all the effort you put in and let's try and

keep it up. BEN EDWARDS: Lewis Hamilton is the

winner in Hungary. Kimi Raikkonen finishes second. Romain Grosjean

third and then Vettel in fourth. Alonso maintaining his point

scoring record in fifth, ahead of Button. Senna, a strong result from

him after a difficult time recently. Webber only eighth. And then the

two force inias. In -- Force Indias. In 17th, Kovalainen and the two non

finishers, Karthikeyan and Michael Schumacher. For Lewis Hamilton this

will be his fifth podium finish of 2012 and it it does put him in the

championship chase which was so crucial after a couple of non

scores recently. He now can at least go into the August break

He doesn't get a gold medal, but he is very much the winner here in

Hungary. The Hungarian Grand Prix for the third time goes the way of

Lewis Hamilton. Eleven races down, nine remain and in the five weeks

until Spa there will be a holiday, but there will be hard work as

Fernando Alonso's rivals try harder to reign in the prancing horse, but

Lewis Hamilton has certainly shown Well, a very happy Lewis Hamilton

joins us now. Lewis, congratulations. Just sum-up how

you are feeling? I am feeling chilled right now. I'm feeling

excited that I can go into the break relaxed so can the team, but

we, I'm still very, very mindful that we have got a long, long way

to go. The low tusz were rapid -- Lotuses were rapid and I know if it

was a different track where overtaking would have been easier,

it would have been harder to keep them behind. Nevertheless, we still

did the job and we can go away and enjoy it, but it just shows that

the season is not over yet. You are a cool guy. 101 is the new

100, after a difficult week, you came here and you controlled it

from the start? Yeah. For once, we got a good start. The start I was

so happy with it, because it is 600 meters down to turn one. I got a

great start. I did the the procedures really well.

DAVID COULTHARD: You can talk us through it.

Body Shop Body Shop. I got a great start and I didn't need to move. I

went into turn one and locked up. LAUGHTER

It didn't go perfect. I locked up and went straight on. But still

managed to stay in the lead but a perfect sequence.

You can't hear the audio, but it sounds like you just did the

perfect amount of drive off the line. At what point did you look in

your mirror to confirm that you got a good start.

As soon as you got on the KERS, you start looking in the mirrors to see

if you need to block. You have got to do a sequence of things, you

know what it is like. You have to warm up the clutch and at a certain

speed you have to do different things and the correct amount of

burn outs and the reaction time is important. The average reaction

time is 0.2 seconds, and you can get it down to 0.18 that could be

half a meet tore a meter and you want to make sure you get that, but

you don't want to jump the start. It looked like that was the only

mistake of the whole Grand Prix, that little run wide at turn one,

the rest of the race, flawless? really, really feel it was as close

to for me, I am always searching for perfection, I always want to

make sure you never lose time and never make mistakes and to keep

those guys behind I had to be 100 erst, if I had -- 100%, and if I

had ran wide anywhere, they would have had me. I have got to keep

working, I can always improve. What a difference a few guys make.

McLaren seem to have done a good job? We picked up a lot of

performance, but we have we have got a throt do still as -- lot to

do still. These guys were rapid and it is so close, you have to assume

have a new upgrade coming so we have got to do something over in

break in the two weeks in the break we have got to make sure that we

bring something, hopefully a good step to Spa.

Will you sort out your contract with McLaren in that period? I hope

so. I am not going to be thinking much about it. I I pay people to do

that! I'm going to be enjoying myself with lots of friends and you

know, a big shout out to my family, auntie Diane and all the family

back home. I have been tweeting and the support, the messages that I

get all the time makes a huge difference. If you are not

we can hear from Jenson Button. Jenson, a brilliant start, how much

did Bruno Senna ruin your race? didn't, because it was his choice

to be on the circuit at that moment in time. We damaged our race by

pitting when we did on the second and third stops. The first stop we

pitted because I felt a bit of degradation and the second and

third stops, I don't know why. The pace was still there. I was

catching the guy ins front, but the team thought I would drop into

clear air and overtake the cars in front when they pitted, but both

times I pitted I dropped into traffic. Around cars that were

slower than the cars I was racing. So I made a few mistakes and

hopefully we will learn from that. Jenson Button being kind about

Bruno Senna and diplomatic about the team. It wasn't a a great

strategy being stuck on new tyres. I was touched by someone by McLaren,

oh, it was Jenson Button! He is disappoint that had the strategy

put him out in traffic and that is chance of a better result. His lap

times are going well, relative to Lewis Hamilton so he found form in

the Grand Prix over what he had in qualifying.

Let's talk about this lunge, he made a lunge past Sebastian Vettel.

It is like the Jenson Button, we will whisper it, it is like the

Jenson Button we saw of old. He is happy in the car? This was the

racer came out. He saw Vettel was being pushed. He tried to pass

Grosjean and he ran wheel to wheel around turn two. It is difficult to

do because you put your car out on the dusty side of the track. Top.

He is into the slipstream and pulls to the left. He is trying to weigh

up the the options and and he will see Vettel and he sees that he

starts to push wide. Button releases any left over KERS and he

has to run it on the brakes with 150 kilos of fuel on board, runs

wide on to the dust, but maintains the position as he comes through

How much will he be looking forward to the break? He doesn't need it

from a physical point of view. He is off to the Philippines to do a

triathlon. I think he will feel he missed opportunities. So he will be

hoping that the team can deliver him more confidence before the next

Well, Eric is here smiling, no wonder, a double podium for Lotus

today. Congratulations. You said earlier on in the week you were

1,000% happier than this time last year, must be 1,050 now? Yes, but I

need to keep the percentage as high as possible you know. It's a very

good weekend and again, it's a good reward for the guys because the

other guys were pitting the car behind and it's a credit to go to

them. There is a lot of positive out of this weekend. It's true that

enstone have a good record of developing a car during the season,

so what do we expect during the summer break, part of it you are

not allowed to work but what will you be bringing to make the

difference. Not entirely happened with second place and you must want

to win? Definitely, we, if you do second and Thursday, even if I'm

happy, you score big points. We keep bringing the car and will keep

bringing somebody for the next couple of races. That will make a

little step to make sure we qualify in the top four every time. As we

understand from this weekend, starting from top five, you can

fight for the win. How much do you want that win? Is there an

underlying frustration that you haven't got the win at this stage?

No, I think we would have this kind of frustration at the end of the

season if we only score second and third. I think there's no question

you are going to get a win this season to be so close and it's just

goinging to take one bit of track position at a pit stop or something

like that? Yes. Romain was not capable to close off maybe

Marussian. Never in a position to overtake. Kimi was after.

comfortable are you to see your guys racing wheel-to-wheel? For us

it's fantastic, but is that how you see it, open racing. Talk us

through your heart rate as they approach term one? I think my blood

pressure was down to zero. But they are getting so close there. You are

happy with that? Yes, I'm happy with the outcome, OK. Definitely

they will have crashed each other, that would have been a complicated

problem to face but it's nice problem to have. This is my team

policy definitely to have two drivers capable to fight. I want

two and one, let's say, you give them the same cars and chance, this

is a race team, gambling and the strategy. So we have this problem

in the season because both cars can fight for the win, we have to fight

each other, but obviously they can avoid the crash making my life much

easier. We certainly enjoy your team policy so thank you very much

for joining us. We can now hear from Kimi Raikkonen. Very harsh on

your young team-mate coming out of the pits there? No, it's not my

racing and we know what we are supposed to do and it was maybe

close but very fair, so no issues. Brilliant place in the second stint

there, how good was the car? car was good but we kept putting

ourselfs in the back positions for some days for different reasons. We

made mistakes in qualifying and made our life very difficult.

There's Kimi's thoughts and now Romain Grosjean joins us. How are

you feeling after all of that? Pleased with the way we come back

to podium position. Fantastic for the team. Second and third is a lot

of points, it's good for the Championship and good for the

spirit of everybody before the break before they shut down the

factory and give the motivation to all the guys. It's been a long 11

races and now we can go on holiday for a few weeks and come back

stronger. It wasn't an easy race. You were racing the leader and

Vettel. You were in a huge bat well your team mate at one point? Yes,

it was the closest one ever perhaps to win my Grand Prix, very close

with Lewis, it was fantastic. Then we had a close run with Kimi, he

knew it was going to be very close, but fortunately, a little bit of

traffic at the beginning of my stint three and this is why we get

so close at the exit. We are just about to see how close

it was with Kimi. Talk us through this when you see him as you come

out of the pit lane? I tried to go the outside but he brought me wide

which is the game. Didn't do much so I did the same with Vettel on

the first lap. The key moment, you looked as though you closed up to

Hamilton and then had him over a second, then lost him. Was that

traffic or a mistake? A lot of traffic, you make mistakes. We have

been trying to jump in in the second. We had a lot of traffic and

that lap was Alonso on the end of the stint. It's a bit of better

luck, Alonso coming in we could have had a different end of the

race. Romain, congratulations today, third position, enjoy your break.

Thanks for joining us. Mark Webber is here with us. Mark,

how are you feeling after that race, men goiing on out there, you made a

good start, jumped fer none doe in the pit stops, shame you had to

have the final pit stop -- Fernando? Yes, the key to the race

for us to make it more difficult for us was that we had a failure on

lap 44, 45, and then we had to then manage that, which was a bit more

juicy on the tyres. We elected to stop again which put us behind a

few people and yes, so the strategy was we did lose some places there.

We thought that those tyres, from the opposition, wuf gone a -- would

have gone off a little more as well. It was a real shame to lose the

three or four spots before that. Before that disappointed --

disappointment on 44, you had a great start? Yes, it was a

reasonable get away. I was the only guy in the field on the hard of

tyres. I'm now looking to go down the outside here a little bit and

then get a nice run around here. It's worked in the past here so you

get a good clean exit. I can see now in front Senna and Fernando

having a good scrap so thought I would have a good crack around

Senna which I thought would work well. You want to make sure the

first few sck fors go well for you. -- sectors. Finish the first lap in

seventh and from there we are still looking to go forward but we

finished eighth. Stkpwh you are still second in the Championship,

still hunting down Alonso? Yes, not doing much hunting at the moment.

Fernando's still putting some good points together. Grabbed a few more

from us today. But let's see how the coming races go and he's got a

decent lead. We can talk about Championships with a few races to

go, two or three races, you know, and up until then we have got to

focus on each race. No Red Bulls on the podium today. Vettel finished

fourth. Let's hear from him now. First place, three stop strategy,

what are your thoughts? Well, I think probably not the result we

could have had today. I was stuck behind Jenson quite slowly and then

we lost a lot but obviously you can't just pit and come out in

clean air if there's traffic. Other people weren't that much slower

either so not much we could have done. How marginal were the tyres

for you to have to make the last stop? Not too bad but we thought

we'd try something. Could have been the case the tyres fall off the

cliff but they didn't. So we'll try next time.

Even by finishing fifth, Alonso increased his lead in the

Championship today. He could he couldn't to much more down there?

No, this was damage limitation. He still put up a brave fight but in

the end, it was all about trying to keep himself there. He was always

going to be in the lead of the Championship and minimise the

deficit. He knows that every point matters this season? Yes,

absolutely. He didn't win two World Championships through not being

clever boy. He comes out after the pit stop. As Vettel gets up speed,

Alonso tries to creep up. Vettel releases the steering wise to that.

To double world champions fighting for every point available. We made

the point earlier in the programme, he's the birthday boy today but how

happy will he be with the position, Ferrari have had a huge turn around

in fortunes? The pace is not there. But the fact he's leading the

championship with more than a win in hand still, he'll be happy with

the work. This gives him a chance to bring the next step of upgrades

to Spa which will be a good start point for them. Let's mare from the

leader. Fernando, your record continues. Your thoughts after

that? Yes, a good finish for us. Finish in front of Webber and

Vettel and it's impressive. The team is doing a great job making me

have a strong car on my hands and finishing the races sothis is good.

Michael Schumacher can get nothing rite out there today? Started badly

on Friday. He crashed out in the German Grand Prix, then apparently

came up in his position, was out of the position and when the delayed

start came on, he switched off the engine. So to add insult to injury,

got a drive-through penalty as well. A disappointing weekend for the

whole team. Maldonado, copy book once more? He's got to keep out of

the attention of the stewards. If he can do that, he has a good

chance of getting some other results. But the intention and the

pass was absolutely fine. Paul gives him rule, but it was the

opening of the steering wheel and whacking the side of the car where

it all goes wrong. He has the inside. Paul gives him the space

and as he gets into oversteer, he has to correct and that leans up

against the car. In those situations, the stewards have no

option but to give him a drive- through. What can we do to calm

himself down? Might be -- that's a good question and there might be a

natural substance! He's a quick driver and needs to learn to leave

some space and if he can do that, he'll deliver. Still to come, after
