The McLaren look in good shape in Melbourne but will it be Hamilton

or a Button who comes out on top? Lewis Hamilton has taken pole

position. That was an incredible performance from Lewis Hamilton.

Jensen Button goes second. I was happy to be out there. I was second.

The problem is, when you start on pole position, he will not be happy

if you do not finish in that position. Hamilton verses Jensen

Button up On the Run to the first corner. It is their best to close

the visor and head out and do the business. That we feel we were born

to do. You have to be relaxed. If you're nervous, you have problems.

If you are stressed, problems. those lights go out and it goes

from massive noise all round from the cars to just silence when we

could get the clutch and it is just silent. Hamilton versus Jenson

Button on the front row. Suddenly, crazy again. Lights out, away we

go! Hamilton and bottom going for the first corner. Hamilton is side

by side. Jensen Button is ahead. You're controlling it as you go

away and it is quite simple. Go on the clutch, the same sequence as

you always do. Then disaster. Jensen Button takes the lead.

Impressive stuff. We have the safety car. Oh! When the safety car

came out, I saw it on the screen that Sebastien was about to go into

the pit lane. When I came behind the safety Crush her -- safety car,

I knew he was ahead. It was no real surprise. Things like that often

happen. The lights are out on the safety car. They car came men and

you just pushed like hill. Jensen Button is on it straight away.

what a great way to start the year! I always get confused, I get up and

Sebastien has this anger and fair play, he has taken it out over the

last couple of years a lot. I just get excited. A brilliant stuff from

Jensen Button. And first -- third place goes to Lewis Hamilton. He

does not seem that have been out there. Of course I can get out of

the car and I can smile and I am happy. I don't feel like I should

ever hide my emotions. I was unhappy, I went backwards. I had

nothing to smile about. He is always tricky when it is in house.

But exciting. There is a good atmosphere. We work well together

but in the car, we want to beat each other. That is the way for men

are one is. I love any battle, it does not matter who it is wet. Yes.

It will be an interesting year. Interest has heightened when you

see how the cars line-up for the start of the Grand Prix. McLaren

dominating in Formula One but David Coulthard is gearing up and things

might not go to plan? We were geared up to talk about the heat

and humidity. But as we get towards the start time, the clouds have,

over. This could change everything. Here we go for the second Grand

Prix. For McLaren to lock out the front row once his impressive but

twice is important? They are such different tracks and Melbourne is

temperate and the cooling was not an issue. Come in here, there is

high humidity and you have to open up the cars. Once again, they have

locked out the front row. Alas time we had two British drivers at the

front in successive races was yourself and Damon Hill in 1990.

You did not win the title that season. Or any other season! It is

all about Sunday? We have two world champions with McLaren. They know

what it takes to win. This will be an intriguing battle. 1 - 0, Jensen

Button. Lewis will want to just lay down a marker. Either way, both

those races, you were in front of Damon Hill. Let's look at the

calendar. We will be leaving the heat and heading home for some

weeks and then off to China as the season kicks off and then towards

Europe. We are coming over for the British Grand Prix before long and

it wraps up in Austin, Texas and then Brazil. Who will be at the

front of the grid? Plenty of water to pass under the bridge. As for

today, McLaren at the front. How did we get you? Here is

qualifying... To not a great start for Pastor Maldonado, who ran

through the gravel and damaged his car. He made it out and then starts

in 11. Kimi Raikkonen's rally days came in handy. He spent much of the

race sideways. He qualified in 5th place. But faces a penalty for the

starts and 50s. Michael Schumacher had his best qualifying since his

comeback and that the Mercedes into third place. But the fastest two

drivers were McLaren. Lewis Hamilton gets his first ball

position at Sepang with Jensen Button alongside, Schumacher and

Mark Webber refined and Kimi Raikkonen's penalty means Sebastian

Vettel is and 50s. Ferrari say the cars are improving with Fernando

Alonso in eighth place and Felipe Massa it in 12 days. Paul di Resta

is 14th with Hulkenberg behind his rear wing. Vitaly Petrov is the

highest placed Caterham. And HRT have qualified for their first

grand prix of the season. We are getting close to the start of the

race and the engines are far enough. It looks like it might not be the

case when the race starts but as for the race, lots of talk about

Sebastian Vettel. If he can jump in front of Michael Schumacher, they

believe he will challenge McLaren. And we have Grosjean, impressive in

the Lotus car. His team started in 6th place on the grid and finished

on the podium. Michael Schumacher comes past, let's hear from the

rest of the drivers. Down on the grid, very different conditions

than in Melbourne. The strategy in Australia, you went for it at the

start. What about you? I do not know, looking at the radar, it will

rain. Just as the race starts. That will be interesting, we do not know

what to expect. No reason why the car should not work. If it is dry,

I really do not know what to expect. I'll tell you later! You're meant

to be starting on harder tyres but it will not be long until the wet

tyres, on, what do we know about the conditions? It does not look

too friendly at the moment but we will see, it is along race. Rain is

always expected here. It looks likely right now. You are heading

off for the last minute focus before the race. How do you feel?

You have reasonable pace? Yes, we are looking pretty good. We did

some decent long runs on Friday and here comes the Rain. That allspice

the race up. You know what it is like, the group level is the

standing order. The cars are set for dry conditions. Yes, some

challenges but we are looking forward to get. Good luck. The rain

is a pain for everybody, not just to dignitaries but of course the

teams. This is the second longest start to get to the first corner

but what kind of tyres will they be on? Wet, intermediate? Time to find

out, three world champions at the front and 56 potentially rather wet

laps between them and the chequered flag. The sky is dark, time for the

2012 Malaysian Grand Prix with Ben all the cars will be starting their

stress on intermediate tyres with the green writing on the site.

Let's get a chance on this formation lap to see just how

slippery it might be. We have a light rain, no downpour to contend

with? There are no obvious signs of spray coming from the tyres, the

helicopter does not have any window wiper?! There is still some light

drizzle. There is a car stopped at the back. He charges. -- he charted.

It is 10 years since he started the race in the Jaguar and when he was

here for Sauber, he did not start on that occasion. What is it?

Unlucky. Turn No. 4, there is some spray on the track, not enough to

affect any decision to start on intermediate. With these high

temperatures, if it does not rain further on, we expect the track to

dry out quickly. No one taking the gamble with slick tyres, that would

not work. You would lose too much time. Lots of adrenaline from the

teams and drivers. We saw those tyre choices, and there is a

reminder of the Drivers Championship, how they finished in

Australia. Jensen Button, Sebastian Vettel, Hamilton, Mark Webber.

Riccardo did well to finish. Paul di Resta grabbed the final point.

And the constructors championship... There is at 10. Advantage for

McLaren Mercedes. Sauber ahead of Ferrari. After that first grand

prix in Australia. Other parts of the track looking dry. Turn 12. The

third sector. On board with Jensen Button, gentle weaving. You do not

want to brake the surface of the intermediate tyre. That would bring

on early grains. You want to keep the compound slow. Enter the last

corner, looking wetter. This will be very interesting. We talk about

management in the dry but what this needs is have wet conditions and it

becomes even more crucial. leaders, I wonder if the boys

further back will make any change? Somebody might take the risk.

Felipe Massa... We will not be long what these tyres because if it does

not read any more, it will not be long. It will not be long. Judging

by the conditions that is correct but which car will get off the line

best? Hamilton and Jensen Button on the front row with Schumacher and

Mark Webber on row number two. Rosberg in the Mercedes and

Fernando Alonso on row for. Perez, MacKinnon. Maldonado and Felipe

Massa. Down towards the back, Timo Glock, Charles Pic. It will be the

battle between McLaren team-mates to watch for once again and as we

saw last weekend in Australia, who will it be? Lights out and away we

go! Hamilton against Button and there isn't much in it. Schumacher

under threat from behind. Grosjean tries to squeeze through the middle

but Hamilton has a lead, I think. Jensen Button trying to get around

the outside but Hamilton keeps them back in second place. Grosjean in

third, the French man in the Lotus getting past Schumacher, that is a

brilliant start. Michael Schumacher pushed into 4th place. Slipping and

sliding, that is Mark Webber, making ground, he has got past

Grosjean. It incredibly wet in to turn No. 4. They have to be so

cautious on the brakes. Michael just got tagged by Grosjean. Tied

by someone. As he goes through the corner. Michael Schumacher, his

game place in the last 11 Grand Prix and a look at that rain.

pouring down. Hamilton leads, Jensen Button. Look at Fernando

Alonso in 5th place, then Rosberg, Perez. Everybody... Schumacher in

the middle of the pack. Heikki Kovalainen is going well in the

Caterham. Downforce from turn number four. You find yourself in a

situation where you are aquaplaning. Look here, it is almost completely

dry. Who will go first? It will be tough. Lewis Hamilton has the

advantage over Jensen Button. He went wide. Then Webber, Sebastian

Vettel. Fernando Alonso. Kimi Raikkonen just clips over the kerb.

He has got away with it. Or all of the maintains, the pit crews are

out. Ready for the drivers. -- main teams. It would be beneficial for

the team that if the driver came in. Keep an eye on that. No tyres

coming into the pits. Lewis Hamilton leads, Jenson Button is in

second. Look at the rain falling now. The frontrunners are choosing

to keep themselves on the same strategy. And there are two types

tyres for both of their cars. The rain has become heavier.

TEAM RADIO: It is raining very hard in the pit lane, how are these

tyres? OK for now. From the man himself in second place. Trying to

virtually dry track. It was nip and wave from the line than the rest of

the grid. Grosjean trying to go round the outside of Schumacher. He

made a terrible start in Australia, but he has put that behind him,

Romain Grosjean. This was Kimi Raikkonen's start? It looks like he

locked down a bit when he released the crutch. A lot of the controls

are controlled by software. This is the start from Mark Webber's point

of view. This has been one of the difficulties for Mark Webber,

getting away from the line. I don't think he will be too dissatisfied

with that start, because he is currently in third place. Now, what

happened to Michael Schumacher? We are riding on board. This is what

happened in the 4th term. He was on the outside of Grosjean, and they

touched. Grosjean goes around as well. Grosjean get sideways as he

gets on the power out of the turn. He goes into the side of Michael,

so Michael was the innocent victim. We have seen Paul di Resta in the

pits, so presuming he is changing his tyres? Rosberg is in sixth

place. There is the battle between Alonso in the Ferrari chasing after

Sebastian Vettel. They are a long way off the trial were the times. -

- dry or whether times. Senna and Perez have gone soon wet tyres.

With no sign of aquaplaning come as Jenson Button said to his engineer,

it is OK for now. If it does dry up, the change of tyres won't work so

well. Mark Webber is in third, Sebastian Vettel in fourth position.

Mike been Alonso was behind him, but it is hard to tell. If you

cannot see the cars coming to you with this camera angle, imagine

what it is like sitting in the car? It is so wet down Burg, but all we

are seeing variation on different parts of the circuit. Felipe Massa

comes into the pits. This will dropping down the order. We will

watch the town's -- times Perez is setting over the next few laps.

Ferrari had brilliant pit-stops in Ferrari, they were the fastest

stopping team. They have worked on that a lot during the winter and

they have set up new standards. Each of their stops was under three

seconds. Ferrari have been working on it hard, Vettel still ahead of a

yesterday, but has put that behind him. Hulkenberg is in tenth in the

Force India. We'll keep an eye on him in these conditions in Malaysia.

Grosjean is off. Vat is a shame because he had been running well.

But the contact with Michael, looks like it is all over. You might

expect a safety car, but it is unlikely on this track because they

are good at getting the cars out of the wave. They will have to bring

in a crane to remove fat. -- that. He loses the back end and pretty

much the line you are forced to take. McLaren coming out and

reacting. Which driver is this going to be? It does not mean they

are coming in, it just means they are preparing for the driver.

Jenson Button is in the pits. for the blue writing on the outside

of the tyres. Alonso is also coming into the Ferrari pit at the same

time. They have monitored at what Felipe Massa is doing with his lap

times. That was closed between Hulkenberg and Alonso. Although the

camera does fall short of that, so it might not have been as close as

it looked. It was extremely close. Stops not quite as quick as they

were doing in Australia. Jenson Button is on the fall wet. This is

the drivers taking the view that with this level of rain,

aquaplaning will be more of an issue. It is filling up the shallow

depth on the intermediate that causes the issues. The car sits up

now he has come back out. You can see the extra grip he has on those

tyres and versus Schumacher. Witnessing the difference, you have

that bit more confidence. TEAM RADIO: Started to aquaplaned.

That is what you were talking about. Not enough depth to get the surface

of the tyre on to the road. Also the feeling the driver has in the

car. Would there were tired, there is more movements, gives you more

heat in the tyre. This is going to be interesting to compare how his

in lap has been inverses the out a laugh. His Jenson Button going to

be ahead after this pit stop from Hamilton? Hamilton comes into the

pits. A couple more people coming in as well. Red Bull is in as well.

Mark Webber has decided to do the same, where his Gamma Butyrlactone?

Vettel is in so boats Red Bull cars in at the same time. I think Jenson

Button will be in front. We will get the camera shot and very soon.

There is Rosberg, he has come into the pits. They are virtually

together. Hamilton is in front. But there you have it that stopped is

it Hamilton? It is, it is Hamilton and Button. So close, he made the

stock later than Gamma Butyrlactone. Hamilton is just getting used to

the feel of the new tyre. Crucially, the Lewis Hamilton he is still in

front. It looks as if Lewis Hamilton is getting to grips with

these tyres for Stam he is opening a gap to Jenson Button. Top driving

from both Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button. Hamilton having to get used

to these new tyres immediately. Jenson Button just missing out on

getting ahead of his team-mate by making the stock earlier. And there

is Sergio Perez he was the first to switch to these tyres and is in

third place. Everyone else has stopped. Perez, having made the

stock earlier, he is in third place ahead of Mark Webber. We did ask

the question at the beginning, was that a strategic decision? He is

off the circuit. He has damaged the front of the wing? I think it is

some grass. He did get away with it but it will have cost him a bit of

time. We have got problems as well, thunder and lightning, the picture

disappeared from the screen. It is getting very dark and gloomy.

lights have gone off in the commentary box as well. A red flag,

the race is being stopped. Schumacher or nearly went off. We

are seeing red flag symbols on our timing screen and the safety car

has been deployed. TEAM RADIO: Last sector is like a

lake. Aquaplaning again. What you need on a lake is a boat and not in

racing-car. It is a safety car rather than the race being stopped.

It does look as if it is just the safety car. As they followed behind

the safety car, it is Hamilton, immediate tier, so he is very

bravely driving round. What the weather conditions being changeable

from the start, Charlie Whiting is making some difficult decisions,

calling the safety car. No red flag, but it was confusing because the

red flag did come up on our screen, but they are running under the

safety car. Lewis Hamilton, I wonder how relieved he is to be

sitting behind the safety car after coping with the slightly later pit-

stop very well and just getting out ahead of Jenson Button. This was

Sebastian Vettel a moment ago. What happened to him? He is there with

Jean-Eric Vergne. He went past. That was in Number 11, and Jean-

Eric Vergne is still on intermediate as far as we know.

That is where Perez lens of or when we saw him cut across. Two Grand

Prix in a row were Vettel has been on the grass at some point. There

is a lot of undulations in his racetrack that is not caught on the

camera. The red flag has been brought out on this race, so all

drivers will have to head back on to the grid and stop running and

the safety car will wait, until they get the signal to restart.

They did return to the grid for 50 minutes or wells the race director

decided if it was safe. The drivers did their best to keep themselves

dry, and it was not so easy for the fans. Then they restarted the Grand

Sebastien Vettel but we have heard from the teams that it is possible

that they will be coming in as the race restarts to switch from full

wet tyres and put the intermediate tyres on. Maybe others will not,

there is a drive-through penalty for to Rossa. They have done

several laps like this, hopefully they will have enough heat in their

tyres. Michael Schumacher's still working as front tyres like mad to

get that front temperature up. We are now getting ready. They have

one third of the lap to complete before this race wheeziness. I do

not see any of the teams rushing out with any intermediate tyres,

they do not want to show their hand too early. I'll keep an eye on that.

Here we go. Lewis Hamilton dictates the pace of the restart, of course

with Jenson Button behind them Sergio Perez. Will he be a hero? He

nearly ran into the back of Jenson Button, there. Hamilton gets to

determine when they make their brake. Look at Mark Webber,

squeezing down the outside, waiting for Lewis Hamilton to go for it and

he does. Jenson Button has been left behind. He goes on the attack,

down to the last corner, Mark Webber under attack from Fernando

Alonso then Sebastian Vettel as well. Rosberg comes into the pits.

And Kimi Raikkonen. Mercedes and Lotus coming in. Where is Jenson

Button? He is in the pits. I could not see him. Webber and Alonso

side-by-side and second place for Sergio Perez. Look at Felipe Massa,

getting past Jean-Eric Vergne. Side by side on the exit. Jenson Button

has done the pit stop, he decided to come in to switch to the

intermediate tyres and again there is a great battle going on.

Sebastian Vettel going down the inside of Mark Webber. Mark Webber

will try to come back. And he does, he gets back past. Slipping and

sliding in these conditions. Hamilton has the lead. Perez, Mark

Webber has dropped to 4th place but he has kept his team-mate behind

him. I love to see team-mates going wheel to wheel, the stakes are so

much higher. Sebastian Vettel struggling with getting these tyres

back up to temperature for the restart. Mark Webber has got

Fernando Alonso in his sights. Felipe Massa is going well because

he has caught up and Jean-Eric Vergne has dropped back just a

little. He is still ahead of the Force India. We had Jenson Button

coming for the intermediate tyres, we will have to wait and see his

middle sector times to give us some indication if that was right.

Michael, do you think intermediate? I think so, yes. Yes, I think so.

Yes, he thinks so. Hamilton, 43.8 on the middle sector. Is that the

right tyre? Hamilton is in. The lap that Jenson Button does is

absolutely crucial for the outcome of this race. Hamilton goes in, he

has to surely go for intermediate tyres? Sergio Perez leads the

Malaysian Grand Prix, how about that? Hamilton is in the pit and

Alonso and Mark Webber and Felipe Massa. That was a very slow stop

for Hamilton, Jenson Button coming out on the last corner. He might

have just done enough to hold Jenson Button. Jenson Button is in

front of Hamilton. But behind Fernando Alonso. Those Ferrari pit

stops are amazing this year. Fernando Alonso has gone ahead of

Jenson Button. They us is an amazing stop for Ferrari but do

they have the car that is fast enough to stay in front of McLaren?

Sergio Perez, despite being on the full wet tyres, has just set the

fastest lap so he is leading for Sauber. He has not made the pit

stop, these guys have and Hamilton has lost out. Let's take a look at

what went wrong. The stop is just a little bit long. The front axle was

absolutely fine and the car was dropped late and was he told to

wait? For Felipe Massa. Just very unlucky. And that has cost him one

track position to his team-mate and that amazing pit-stop for Ferrari.

Sub three-second in Australia. is a battle up front. He has hit

the HRT?! Jenson Button has lost his right front wing against the he

charted. Hamilton is bearing down on him. He will have to pit. Jenson

Button in big trouble, there. That is absolute disaster. Hamilton will

take full advantage of that. Jenson Button will be so disappointed. We

have to figure out which HRT that was. Narain Karthikeyan. That is

unfortunate. In to turn No. 9. Jenson Button will have to surely

pit for the new front wing? He is in. He follows Karthikeyan. He had

not made his pit stop yet and he was intent players so Sergio Perez

we joins in front of Fernando Alonso. Sergio Perez is still

waiting. He has gone out in front of Fernando Alonso. Sauber is

working. They were side by side at the top of the shot. We need to see

that. What a fight is going on. Jenson Button has gone into the

pits. The new front wing and the intermediate. This is dropping him

right to the back of the field because the field has been

compressed by the safety car and he is right at the back. Let's see

what happened to Jenson Button behind Karthikeyan. That was just a

little clumsy, he felt that the door was being left open. Through

the braking his own... Karthikeyan it looked like he was going wide

and in the end that was just as normal line. Jenson Button was just

caught out. The HRT effectively stopped at the apex. He will have a

very long afternoon to get back into the points. Meanwhile, brave

decision from Perez. He did that extra lap on the full wet tyres. He

has Fernando Alonso in front of him. He has indeed. Ferrari leading in

Malaysia. How about that? Fernando Alonso leads with Ferrari after all

those disastrous winter Tests they have had. It is a car that has not

been at all good for them in terms of its sheer pace. But he is now

leading this race. He has just set the fastest first sector. Trying to

kill the wheelspin. Sergio Perez coming into second place in the

Sauber. We have to Britain that at some point Hamilton will find a way

to get past Sergio Perez? Fernando Alonso is almost one second quicker.

He has gone out on these intermediate tyres. The battle

behind. It looks like he was trying to pass him on the inside. Lotus,

Red Bull battles going on. Fernando Alonso, fastest lap of the race.

Hamilton was losing a lot of time on that. What is going on with

positions... It is Fernando Alonso, Perez, Hamilton, Rosberg, Sebastian

Vettel, like an end, then Mark Webber, Felipe Massa. You can see

the other Ferrari. Paul di Resta. Then Jean-Eric Vergne in the top 10.

And then I think we have got Hulkenberg. Kobayashi, Michael

Schumacher only 38 days. Unable to make out -- make up lots of ground.

Fernando Alonso leading for Ferrari. There is this news check on the

sector times. Sebastian Vettel is the fastest man on that first

sector. 29.7. That is a very big advantage. This is what happened

when Fernando Alonso came out, he was ahead of Jenson Button and he

got ahead of Hamilton. At that point, Sergio Perez was a leader.

Quick shift forwards... Let's get those tyres working...

difficulty in moving the brake balance forward is to become more

susceptible to front blocking. What Jenson Button is talking about is

it not only affects your ability to steer but also to brake. And I

sympathise with his engineers suggesting more heat on the brakes

but as a driver, he will think, how can I put more load into that front

tyre with braking if I am struggling to hit this up? There he

is, that's super lap on the new tyres, it was nice and fresh, but

since then he has not been showing the same place. -- pace. He says he

has got no group, struggling with front and rear. That is certainly

the case over the last lap or two. He has been unable to close that

gap. Sebastian Vettel, Rosberg just up ahead. Good laps coming in from

Sebastian Vettel. Closing the gap. Up to turn No. 4. You have to be so

gentle on the throttle application. He just spins off the rear tyres.

Nissan... 5 and 6. You can see that superior group with the Red Bull

against the Mercedes at high speed. The traction on a Mercedes did not

look too bad coming out of No. 4. Sebastian Vettel well and Trulli in

the DRS zone and the activation. Is just to the right of the camera

shot, turn number 15. If he does not manage to look for any passage

around this middle part, certainly he will be able to do so On the Run

down past the start-finish. Saving up any KERS. He will have that

extra 80 horsepower. Difficult to use in the wet because you are

closer to the point of spending the rear tyres. The effectiveness drops

away because you end up using it at a higher speed and then you are

into the case of diminishing returns. Let us see if we will see

any KERS used in the next part of the lap. And indeed, DRS. They

cannot do it on this section of track but there can on the next. If

they are close enough. At this point. Sebastien Vettel should be

close enough for the rear wing flap to operate coming off the next

straight. That is less than one second. He has ers operating. Also

using KERS. That extra horsepower. Sebastian Vettel goes on the attack.

Rosberg, defensive. Sebastian Vettel has to go very deep. Still

trying... Lovely! I held my breath in the braking zone. You have to

say that Rosberg was very fair, pecking at inside line. Once again,

showing his racing skills. Alonso has opened up the gap to around

five seconds. He has just set a new fastest lap but Felipe Massa is

under attack from Paul di Resta and Force India. But behind the other

Ferrari. Fighting for eighth place. Jean-Eric Vergne still in that grid,

behind Toro Rosso. Paul di Resta can sense an opportunity if he can

find his way past Ferrari. Look at this DRS assisted manoeuvre from

Sebastian Vettel. He was a long way back but he opened up the rear flap.

It did not look anywhere near as close as it did from the on-board

shot. We can see the replay. Vicario must have made an error and

dropped back into seven. And Bruno Senna has gone around the outside.

Did he manage to hold that? information is that he was on the

racing line for turn number two. Rosberg under attack from reckon

and. -- Kimi Raikkonen. We are ready to manage these tyres. There

might be a shower coming soon so please manage the tyres. Many

another shower on its way. Timo Glock in 18th place. As Nico

Rosberg is still trying to defend from Kimi Raikkonen and look how

much Sebastian Vettel has got away in the last lap. Look at that use

of DRS from Kimi Raikkonen. He will try to do exactly what Sebastian

Vettel did, up the outside. Has he got enough? Yes, he has some group

on the outside and we then get the inside line. Just about. Let's

watch what happens. Kimi Raikkonen had to be on the inside line, he

used up his KERS. Rosberg still had his full use. And the information

we had before the restart was that they did not think the KERS would

be working in Kimi Raikkonen's car but the graphic shows that whatever

the issue was, it is now working. Be using that wide line. He has

been using a fine for quite a few down on Nico Rosberg. Just seen

Kovalainen coming into the pits. It is raining at a 4th term. Alonso

reporting there is the more rain towards the final few corners of a

lack. Let's take a look at Kimi Raikkonen's passing manoeuvre.

Pretty much carbon copy of Vettel. They were pretty much at neck and

neck in the braking zone. Raikkonen able to use the extra grip

available off-line. Curious Nico Rosberg did not use his KERS to

defend. The DRS was operating. Felipe Massa was under attack from

Paul di Resta. I am impressed with Alonso's pace at the moment. He is

almost 1.5 seconds faster than the others. We have McLaren in. It is

Jenson Button, gone for another set of the intermediate tyres. We were

hearing since some reports from Fernando Alonso of more rain.

Felipe Massa still defending from di Resta. Vergne is defending well

so both Toro Rosso cars are worth watching. It will be any

interesting piece of intelligence to look, how does Jenson Button get

on with a fresh set of intermediate tyres. Does he get the temperature

in the tyre and find some pace? If that is the case expect some of the

other drivers to pit. There is so much action going on at the moment,

and what our delight to hear from Gary, as we see a replay from Mark

Webber as he gets on the white line, hard on the power. As Nico Rosberg

goes defensive onto the inside, he appears from nowhere. Gary watch

the pit stop at Jenson Button, what did you see? They put a better

front wing on and changed his tyres. On board with di Resta is behind

Felipe Massa as well. Jenson Button, has gone purple in the middle

sector, which tells us it is the fastest middle sector in the Grand

Prix. Felipe Massa has ran wide. The he looked up on the way into

nine and his loss is di Resta's game. It could be Jean-Eric

Vergne's game as well. They almost touch! Vergne trying to defend off

the Ferrari. What an opportunity at the other guy in only his second

ever Grand Prix going wheel-to- wheel with Felipe Massa.

Technically, Felipe Massa would have used their bits of KERS coming

out of that term. Vergne has gone to the outside. He will try and do

the cutback. He will be in the DRS zone. The wing flap is open on

Jean-Eric Vergne's car and he has the extra straight line speed.

There is a possible change, Hulkenberg is trying to get past

Senna. Senna just about holding on to the position in Williams. He and

Massa make contact last time out. Hulkenberg in the other Force India.

Force India looking strong. Jenson Button is going fast, although

Alonso is still amazing looking after his tyres and leading this

race by 7.6 seconds. Felipe Massa, looking at that again. Be little

bits to the left. You see that twitch. Momentarily, just like your

handbrake being called on in your car, it takes away their grip.

happened here, Hulkenberg trying to get up the inside. Senna is now 9th.

Money is having a very good drive. We are watching Kobayashi trying to

get round the outside of Michael Schumacher. He has done it, the

Japanese driver gets past the seven-times world champion and made

it look easy. That is twice Michael has been passed at that turned. It

is worth having a look to see what it grip of these drivers are

finding. What a day this is the Peter saw there. -- Peter Sao buyer.

He is watching from the pit lane as they are having one of their best

days ever. Ferrari are still looking after the tyre. Alonso is

banging in those quick lap times. Kimi Raikkonen is just going deep,

it look as though he was going in the pit. There is a long way to go

in this Grand Prix. What a remarkable story this would be if

Alonso was able to maintain this position. A remarkable story for

Perez also. The pre-season chat was which head was going to roll at

Ferrari? But in these conditions, the car is coming alive, talking to

the driver. And Alonso is at his absolute best this afternoon.

RADIO: Possibly a shower coming in in five or 10 minutes, Mark. There

is a 50% spread, is it five or 10? And how do they know it is going to

rain? The weather is so unpredictable. It can go around the

circuit sometimes, over it. The top teams will have somebody up wins,

standing there without a hat on, and possibly a bald heads ready to

say, I am getting wet, the rain is coming. Perez is still going well.

The youngster is staying within 7.7 seconds. Large rain cell located it

in the North West gradually moving towards the circuit. But and coming

back, passing Ricardo. Petrov is running in 15th position at the

moment in the green and yellow machines. Jenson Button trying to

make up the the incidents at when we saw him lose part of his sons

wing in a clash with Karthikeyan. Felipe Massa just takes back his

track position. Ricciardo is going to have fun as well. Jenson Button

will have to be brave and go round the outside. Felipe Massa is

running him wide. Ricciardo and early ended up on the grass.

Wonderful action. Jenson Button has got through and you are now on

board with that Ricciardo will try and do likewise. It is Ferrari,

Ferrari of course, Toro Rosso owns the Ferrari engine. It is exciting

racing this afternoon. We now have Nico Hulkenberg in the Force India

going fastest in the first sector. They seem to take a while,

overtaking? This was brave positioning for Jenson Button.

Doesn't quite manage to get the throttle open. Felipe Massa was

able to come back into his racing line and Jenson Button quite

rightly pulling out of that. Jenson Button never wanting to give up, it

runs to the outside and Felipe Massa running him wide as fair as

he possibly can be. Then Jenson get traction and it was a wheel-to-

wheel racing. A round of applause and quite right. The drivers giving

themselves just enough space. Perez is still going quickly. Alonso will

have to watch out. Can they make it to the end of the Grand Prix? If

this -- weepers in conditions stay like this, damp. TEAM RADIO: It is

touch and go with the conditions, it really is. If they pit now and

then tried to run to the end up on another set of intermediate, and

the rain comes, you will have to go in and change tyres again.

Ricciardo has got past Massa 4 star gazumping Caplan bed. I don't know

if he was recovering, we might get another look. This is what happened.

On board with Ricciardo. Uses the DRS and moves to the outside. The

Australian got it turned in and the head. Felipe Massa could do nothing

about it. Whether he had a bit of a go at getting back at him through

the corner? Alonso still leads. Another second has been gained by

Perez. There he is in the background. The other car running

third, don't worry about, it is a lapped car. But Sergio Perez are

now within four seconds of race leader, Fernando Alonso. We are on

lap 37 and he is showing such a great turn of pace. Alonso is

having his work cut out up front to maintain the gap. Vettel is still

Ricciardo. -- Jenson Button. Given the conditions, we have only got

one retirement, which was at the start, Romain Grosjean went out at

the start of this race. He is the only retirement so far. 100%

scoring record in that respect so far, he went out in Australia.

Petrov is up to 15th, but outside the points. Let's see if Perez is

a second gained by Perez. And other fastest lap of or the Mexican. Only

in his second season of Formula One and is showing everybody what he

can do today. Alonso is an experienced driver. He will, I can

assure you the feeling the pressure building in the cockpit. No way

will he be allowing this gap to be eroded as quickly as that if he was

holding something back. This is the pure performance of these cars in

his Grand Prix. It puts Alonso in a difficult position. In his mind he

will be thinking he needs a fresh set of intermediate. He can do that

lead over Sebastian Vettel. But if he does that, he will relinquish

the lead. But this is a battle of the mines as much as a battle of

lane. This is a brave move, surely. I remember seeing this in Melbourne.

A remember saying that it was too early but let us wait and see.

this got the white writing on? The softer compound available. Everyone

in the pit lane, the strategists, they say, thank you, Toro Rosso,

because that gives them the vital information they need. They are

closer. It is down to 2.3 seconds. TEAM RADIO: More rain is

approaching. They need to get to the end of the race on the set of

tyres, according to the engineer. Jenson Button is on a fresh set of

intermediates. Hamilton's front tyre is almost looking bald. I have

to say, it is looking quite good round 5 and 6. Let's hope for a

stay on board with him for the lap. This double right hand... We will

watch those sector times. This is looking good with slick tyres. They

might just be the saviour for Fernando Alonso. Perez, half a

second quicker. The fastest middle sector for the car that has

switched to slicks. Ricardo has become the fastest out there.

The last shot we have an Alonso coming out of that corner... The

back end was moving. Into the pits. We are waiting for Fernando Alonso

and the crew. They had the softer tyre available but Perez will

surely be coming in? It looks like the slick tyres are quicker so he

has to follow Fernando Alonso because he would just lose time.

radio communication so that will have been just a little while ago

that they said that. I wonder if he will be in? Mark Webber on to slick

tyres. Fernando Alonso still leading on his intermediate tyre of,

which are are now very much past their best. The faster lap times,

Daniel Ricardo lighting up the screens with the fastest middle

sector. The right time to be on slicks. Perez is close to the race

leader, Fernando Alonso. Ferrari bargaining on their super quick pit

stops to maintain position because if he comes in, you assume that

Perez would follow him in. No question that slick tyres are

faster. After first and second sector times. It can only be that

they really believe the reason is close. Jenson Button has reacted to

his engineer and has put on the softer tyres. Ferrari are coming

out into the pit lane in front of us so we expect Fernando Alonso to

pile into the pits. No... Perez stays out. Sauber are going for a

very different strategy, maybe they are convinced it will be raining in

a moment. Fernando Alonso comes in from the lead, after the race was

restarted behind the safety car, there were some great laps from him

and he went on to the intermediates at the right time and he has been

leading ever since. Hamilton went past, he has decided to stay out.

He was 12 seconds behind the leader. Hamilton doing at least another lap,

praying for the rain. Both Ferrari cars now on slicks and both Red

Bull cars on slicks because we have seen Webber coming in. He has gone

for the harbour of both options. That is interesting that Sebastian

Vettel felt more comfortable on harder tyres during qualifying but

it will be a very slightly harder compound and difficult to switch on

with these cooler conditions. I would have been inclined to go for

the softer tyres to get the switch. Look at that, they leave the pit

lane and all of the heat up the tyres, they are losing surface

temperature running over the water on the edge of the pit lane. That

is again for whoever because he has gone past Kimi Raikkonen. -- for

Mark Webber. 1:49.8. Remember, Fernando Alonso has switched. The

race leader, Sergio Perez, the 21 year-old Mexican, leads this race

and that is phenomenal. He has driven so clearly in this race.

This is the reader. Sergio Perez, the first Mexican in Formula One in

30 years. In he comes to the pits. Where will he come out? You would

expect Fernando Alonso to be lighting up the timing screens.

Fernando Alonso on the circuit track is just coming in to turn No.

15. Presenting he gets the tidy pit-stop... The front wing

adjustment. Putting in some extra front wing. Slipping the clutch.

Fernando Alonso has gone through in the lead. A long way. He is on a

harder tyres. Lewis Hamilton has made him stop and he is on his way

once again so Hamilton at stopping later than some. Comes out behind

Heikki Kovalainen. He has just set the fastest lap in the race in the

Caterham. Now, it is Mark Webber! He is quite a long way down, in

20th place. The fastest lap has now gone to Mark Webber. Look at this

big chunk in time. Trying to get the front brake off. The brakes are

burning as they set there. That piece of tape caused them so much

time. With all the technology, they still rely on gaffer tape on the

front brake gaps. Bruno Senna, he has changed, he has been into the

pits, you can see those white labels. And slicks on the car in

front, which is Paul di Resta. And modern manner, he has just set the

fastest lap. All sorts of people. - - Pastor Maldonado. Closing up to

the back of Paul di Resta. And Bruno Senna having his best race

for Williams, that is for sure, probably his best race ever at the

moment. Sitting in eighth position and the opportunity to move up

further. The best before this was 9th place in Italy. Can he go back

to? He is a pretty cool character, I have to say. He did not have

quite as good a performance in qualifying but he has delivered

great race pace. From difficult positions. Still closing up behind

Paul di Resta. Kimi Raikkonen just ahead of them and Mark Webber has

set a fastest lap. Sebastian Vettel is on the harder tyres. We will

have to watch that lap time comparison but Mark Webber on the

softer tyres has set the fastest lap. Fernando Alonso leads the race.

Fernando Alonso, Perez, Hamilton is 11.7 seconds behind in third,

Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Kimi Raikkonen is in 6th place, then

these guys, 7th and eighth is, Paul di Resta and Bruno Senna in the

Williams. Jean-Eric Vergne is in 9th place, Hulkenberg his tent is,

Pastor Maldonado in 11th place with that you fastest first sector,

Schumacher, Kobayashi, Rosberg, Jenson Button is back down in 16th

position. 78 days is Vitaly Petrov, then Felipe Massa, then Timo Glock

and Kovaleinen. And Charles Pic still running. Lap 44. Still, Bruno

Senna in the Williams, chasing down Paul di Resta in the Force India.

Very little to choose between the strong midfield runners. I can see

some rain out the back of the commentary box landing in a puddle

nicely positioned. Will we see some change again? Rain over the circuit

isn't sure but we have just seen this. From the back of the

commentary box. That was Perez, he was slow to get away. I think he

was OK. Then that replay of Felipe Massa. With Petrov? Yes, fighting

for 17th place. So... And more rain in the air. Fernando Alonso leads

by 5.7 seconds over Sergio Perez. Hamilton in third. Mark Webber is

still the fastest man on the track and has just 3.6 seconds behind his

team-mate. Will we see him passing Sebastian Vettel? Great performance

from Sergio Perez. Can he keep it up? Let's look. Bruno Senna has had

a go with DRS to get past Paul di Resta, around the outside, and that

was a lovely move from Bruno Senna and that puts an end to 7th place.

It is down to 2.3 seconds between Ferrari and Sauber. Perez is still

catching Fernando Alonso. Lap 47 out of 56. This is going to be a

grandstand finish. Particularly with that change in weather

conditions to consider. Hamilton is in distant third. Sebastian Vettel

in 4th place. Maintaining that advantage over Mark Webber. Then

Kimi Raikkonen is under some threat from Bruno Senna. Paul di Resta

close behind. These are the closest battles. Jean-Eric Vergne is still

in 9th place for Toro Rosso and Hulkenberg is intent place. -- 10th

place. And Perez has now set another fastest middle sector as he

continues to bear down on the Ferrari in front. This guy is

driving the wheels off at the moment. Sliding around just enough.

That is a tidy style that he has. The nerves in my stomach for him.

For Ferrari. Because the stating they have had in the media with

pre-season testing and those difficulties going into the

Australian Grand Prix. That is a remarkable turnaround, what a

difference one week makes. Leading Sauber. 14 seconds. Sebastian

Vettel is in trouble! He has lost drive. One is going on? Puncture,

left rear. He has tried to get it back to the pits. That is the

harder compound tyre. Maybe there was contact with somebody?

remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, that has cost him

potentially points, he was running in 50s. Right on the cusp of 10th

place. This would put him outside the top 10. On the seven laps since

he made his pit stop. Quick work from the mechanics. It has to be

content? Surely? He caught the front wing of the He charity, the

tyre immediately loses pressure. That was on the wrong end for turn

No. 9. That has cost 10 time. Look at his hand waving, he looks like

he is speaking Italian Right Now! That was Narain Karthikeyan. Look

how close Perez is and they are trying to avoid those big chunks of

rubber. That can cost you aerodynamic damage to the car. It

could cause punctures as well, this is a straightforward race to the

flag. Ferrari but Fernando Alonso against Sergio Perez. And Fernando

Alonso, double world champion, against a man who is only starting

his second year of grand prix racing, only one -- 21 years old

and he is on the attack. So much closer over these last laps. TEAM

RADIO: Fernando Alonso is on the option. Fernando Alonso on the

option. The softer tyres. And struggling for group. He is indeed.

The option was the faster tyre in qualifying and he was expected to

be not 0.2 seconds slower than the prime tyres during the rest. What

we are seeing is it is more than that, because normally Sauber

should be slower than Ferrari but right now, Perez is the fastest on

climax. Alonso having to think about the positioning of the car

but it with DRS becoming available at the end of each lap. It will be

tough. The I am going to check what her top speeds were in comparison

to qualifying. It lights up on the graphic, he has DRS in operation

now. What does it give him? Not much. Both have Ferrari engines.

Still got some laps to go. We are on lap number 50 out of 56. It is a

wily old fox, Fernando Alonso, as he was described to us by one of

the Williams guys after he defended from Maldonado last weekend, but he

has his work cut out here. TEAM RADIO: Be careful, we need this

position. Possible light terrain -- light rain. They are saying we need

this position, even if they come second. It is a big position. Will

Perez have understood that? He is it a team order between the Ferrari

supply teams? There is one thing for sure, they were neck and tuck

in a straight line. Alonso get so wide in the middle of 12. Perez has

a problem. He has ran wide. Is he still OK? Can he keep it going?

Perez in trouble after building up to this remarkable finish. He just

ran wide. He might have done. Then the car looks OK. Is it going?

Alonso has been given a huge break by that. It is up to 5.3 seconds

now, the gap between them. Suddenly it is all change here. Alonso is

looking much better for victory. What happened to Perez? He went on

the kerb. They gave him the message. I have to say it and not to

reminisce of bad memories, in 1986, the team manager of McLaren came up

on the radio and said you have a 22nd lead, take it easy. At the

next corner, I crashed the car. Perez is still fastest in the

middle sector again. He has not completely given up and trying to

win this thing. The race settled down after the restart from the

safety car race. Mark Webber is going very quickly but I don't

think there is time to catch Lewis Hamilton. Senna has put in a great

drive this afternoon. And to stop for a new nose before the safety

car, kept calm and made some beautiful passes. So great to see

the Senna name in the points, chasing down Kimi Raikkonen who is

4.9 seconds behind him. I don't think Senna put him under pressure

in the last part of the race. Kimi Raikkonen, only his second race

back, in the points last week in Australia, will be even better.

Even if he did not have that penalty for a gearbox change, it

does look as though we have got the old Kimi Raikkonen back. He said he

has never been away. He was not racing in Formula One, but it was

in other forms of racing. He sampled other types of motor racing

and has come back. They have allowed him to be just Kimi

Raikkonen, not put too much pressure on him out of the car.

That has allowed him to rediscover his old form behind the wheel.

There he is in fifth place. But I think the team will be happy if he

comes home in that position. The only two retirements, was Grosjean,

who had contact with Michael Schumacher at the beginning, which

seems a long time ago. We have a bit of smoke from a Maldonado's car.

I think that is an engine. Maldonado is getting a reputation

for things going wrong in the closing stages of a Grand Prix.

This is unusual nowadays in Formula One. To see a car smoking a wave?

The Renault engine has been very reliable and has helped Williams in

their pace. Michael Schumacher coming through. TEAM RADIO: We have

got an engine problem. An engine problem confirmed by the team,

telling him to bring it into the pits. Michael Schumacher is into

tenth place. Maldonado loses out almost within sight of the

chequered flag. He is out of the Grand Prix when it looks as though

both the Williams were going to score points. But Senna is still

running in six. The points Maldonado an early got last week,

that it is a worse Senna is now. Very unlucky for the team. It just

highlights what a fantastic drive we have seen from Bruno Senna this

afternoon and the importance for the team to come away with some

points. Vettel won't score any points in this one. Even though one

car has gone out ahead of him, it is not enough for him to get into

the top 10. There never say never! It has not been a good day for

Sebastien. Not a good weekend, really. Mark Webber is in thought

position, so they will score some points with the other car, but what

a turnaround it is from last year. TEAM RADIO: We are going to retire

the car, a retired the car, a retired the car! A strategic

decision based on engine, gearbox and something else I cannot think

about at the moment. Fernando Alonso is heading a round on his

final lap. He is still chased by Sergio Perez. And he has got the

gap down to 2.5 seconds. Perez has managed to narrow the gap, but

Alonso is on his way. TEAM RADIO: Stay out. A change of a

strategic decision from the team. Alonso on his way. Coming into this

race weekend, I would never have said Fernando Alonso was going to

take a victory here today. TEAM RADIO: Stopped the car, stop the

car. Emergency, stop the car. used to be indecisive, but now they

are not so sure! Fernando Alonso is down the penultimate straight.

Ferrari are going to dig themselves out of the trouble they have had

been testing over the last couple of months. Fernando Alonso is going

to win the Malaysian Grand Prix. He takes the victory! Second place

goes to the 21-year-old Mexican, Sergio Perez, just 2.2 seconds

behind. Third place it is going to be Lewis Hamilton, who comes home

for a podium finish with Mark Webber catching him at the end, to

finish in fourth position. Kimi Raikkonen, we are waiting to bring

home fifth place. And there is the Lotus crossing the line. Behind him,

a great result, best-ever finish a for Bruno Senna as he brings the

Williams' home bus-stop just look at the emotion going on and that

Ferrari. It is a wet eyes at Ferrari and that sort of. It is

only the second Grand Prix. completely different podium except

that Hamilton but this raised from what we had in Australia. Fernando

Alonso is rated so highly by so many people in Formula One for

stopped TEAM RADIO: It is a one of the most beautiful, one of the most

beautiful. We are so proud of you and of the team. Just fantastic

emotion from Ferrari. TEAM RADIO: Well done, very good, very good.

Absolutely great. Fantastic race. It is the first Mexican to finish

on the podium in 41 years. Pedro Rodrigues, the great Mexican racing

driver was the last to do it. There will be so much an ocean-going on.

Mexicans have the great passion for their motor sport and to seek

Sergio finishing in second place for staff we have the Vettel finger,

the W Jenson Button also displays when he wins. And a hand puppet

thing Alonso does when he wins. What a fantastic race. The Ferrari

engineers saying to Alonso, this is beautiful. It was a beautiful race.

Fernando Alonso takes victory in Peter? Thanks. The driver was

incredible, but the car and strategy was excellent. Barmaid, he

can stay in front of all of the big boys. It is a miracle. The pressure,

the conditions must have been horrendous? Wet and dry and

everything. Fantastic. A fantastic Fernando Alonso has been here

before in Malaysia. He has won in a Renault and in a McLaren, and now

he has won it in a Ferrari. What a Grand Prix it was. The perfect

storm created by Malaysia. Look at the celebrations. There's the young

Mexican driver, Sergio third Perez. What a relief of Ferrari. -- Sergio

Perez. Watching those scenes, Sergio himself, how does it feel to

take a look at that and see the emotion in the garage? I want to go

and celebrate with them. We have done a very good job. I ran out a

bit like an touch the kerb. It was wet. It was impossible to get the

car there. I was calling God to help me to keep the car on the

track. Can you talk us through the motions when you are catching

Alonso, seemingly within sight of scoring your first victory, never

mind your first podium? I have always dreamed of this. Alonso is

the best driver at the moment. To beat him in this competition would

always be a dream. A fully we can do it soon. We heard the radio

message being transmitted saying, Sergio we need the position but

then you ran wide and No. 14? I cannot remember when it was given.

Maybe a bit before. Some people asked me if it made me lose

concentration, but it did not. it simply driver error? Yes it was.

I was trying and I got some understeer and then I lost the rear,

I went to the wet bar. And then I ran wide. I was going into the

gravel, so I ran a bit wide. wouldn't feel too bad about that

because you finish second in the He is running to see his team. You

can relate? I remember getting my very first podium, it seems a long

time ago but he had the biggest smile and he was to celebrate that

with his team, it is very important with all the rumours about his

future, where will he be going in his second season? With Sauber, to

score their second result, second best result, that is brilliant. He

said to the world that he is a great driver. Clearly, he is very

happy to share that moment with Sauber. But his sights will be on

having a race win in the future. Plenty of great drivers. Let's go

back to the start, remarkable to think that the only had a couple of

retirement. Races like this are notoriously difficult. Everybody

very well behaved? McClaren Es at but nonetheless, it was all very

clean at this point and it was later in the lap, turn No. 4, where

we once again, you can see Michael Schumacher's slotting in behind, he

is getting overtaken by Mark Webber, and you can see how much better it

was. This is where it gets messy. Grosjean goes up the inside.

Schumacher loses control and he pushes Michael around, that is to

mistakes, he needs to be able to convert those great qualifying

results in two races. Can you explain how difficult it is at the

start of a race? You have driven in the drive all weekend and you

suddenly have to work out the braking point? It is difficult

enough in the dry because you qualify with 10 kilos of fuel and

make the right strategic call on the tyres and he hung in. He was

being chased hard towards the end but he made good use of those tyres

and it is a thoroughly deserved victory for Fernando Alonso. And on

the radio, they said that was one of the most beautiful, was that the

race or the car? This isn't one of the most beautiful Ferrari cars

that has ever come off the drawing board. That is for sure. But

victory is what they deserved. it all looked better to Fernando

Do someone said last week he would be winning the Grand Prix, you

would think we were mad, but how do you feel? I feel great, the people

felt that they should put money in but this is Formula One, so many

times this happens on the race on Sunday. Malaysia can change with

the weather. And it did happen again today, the conditions, the

Red Flag, finishing on dry tyres, I remember it was like Korea in 2010,

similar conditions. We grabbed victory both times. It seems like

we like these difficult races. pit stops were very fast? Fantastic

effort from the team, the pit stops in the right time and the right

tyres and the pit stop itself was the quickest again. Like in

Australia. We are maximising what we have. Here on the trackside,

winner of the main priority is to improve the car but with these

times, we need to maximise those. The her demotion from the pit wall,

what does this mean for Ferrari? It has been a tough time? Ferrari were

not feeling well, everything has been saturated and when things go

bad, nobody is happy and it isn't affecting us but we needed a good

result in the first part of the championship. We were struggling,

racing line and he runs wide. And Jenson Button sees a door opening.

He tries to go past. Is he so used to having HRT moving out of his way

that he as soon as it cannot be racing for position? It is so

difficult when running into those corners behind cars, you simply do

not know. At what point of a brake? When will he turn? There are

multiple lines available in wet conditions. He might have thought

he was taking the karting blind and then the pit stop, Hamilton comes

in, the rear jack had difficulty getting under the car. They make

some adjustment. And they then have to wait for Ferrari to come into

the pit box. That was a slow release. You can see how quickly

with the front tyres, if he did not have that problem with the reject,

he could have got out quicker. That possibly cost him? Hindsight is a

wonderful thing and we could have all sorts of scenarios playing out

differently. But in the end, they have those issues and you can see

that this was so frustrating. Tape that was put on to help the

temperatures of the brakes, running them higher. There is no energy in

the wet. And in the end, something as simple as that was so difficult

to remove and that caused them for the time. They are second

consecutive race, pole position start leads to third place for

Lewis Hamilton. Congratulations on the podium, that was not easy but

this is a case of what might have been? Not really, it is what it is.

Of course, you would have loved to have won, starting on pole, and in

the beginning I was in the lead and then we went back into the lead

again. I think for my lost the time was the first pit-stop, the traffic.

And then on the second stops, I had problems with my rear right and my

front right so there was a lot of time lost. I still pushed hard and

these guys did a great job. have been the podium consistently

for the past couple of weekends, Jenson Button did not score,

Sebastian Vettel did not score, is that something you do not wish, you

don't wish bad luck and others but you are doing what you can? Yes, I

do not know what has happened back there. It has not hurt Jenson

Button too much, he still has 25 points so he is still there. The

same thing for Sebastian Vettel. We just have to keep up consistency to

stay ahead in the constructors championship. Interesting point

Lewis drives the one leading in the championship? That has not been

lost on him, you have to pick your fights and earlier on, things were

not working out for Lewis Hamilton and that was a very mature and

drive, he is looking ahead to the World Championship and that is his

goal. He wants victories but he wants another championship. You're

unlikely to do that without winning races but if you are consistent,

you can still do it. There is going to be a very big fight for that

fight. Jenson Button. How can we put so much into some questions,

such an eventful afternoon. Not the result we wanted? Not really, I can

only laugh because it was such a horrendous race. From my point of

view, I did not do a very good job but everything that could have gone

wrong really did. Just one of those things. It was a tough afternoon,

tough when in 15th place, everyone is so close, it is so difficult to

overtake. It made it very difficult but a lot of the issues were

because I went to the front wing off at the start and I locked up

the rear tyres and could not slow the car down. And Karthikeyan, that

was frustrating. That was it, really. An honest interview from

Jenson Button, you can see some of the work going on behind us,

everybody preparing for the next race in China and Jenson Button

cannot wait to make amends. Mark Webber, 4th place again, how will

he feel? The will think he has made the best of the current situation

that Red Bull find themselves in. They do not have any out rights be,

that gives them an error in position and then difficult

conditions, because all about surviving and getting points

possibly. He will not be too disappointed. That team battle is

important and psychologically, Sebastian Vettel has taken the

blows better now. That will not be lost on Mark Webber. If you

results. Where in terms do you think in your mind, and in your

driving, do you think you are maximising your potential and is

red flag came out and I lost about three places. But it was very wet

after the red flag. As it dried out, the performance showed with it not

been quick enough. We managed everything as much as we could to

get home in seventh. A few people came off and we scored some points.

Rosberg has scored some points, but the team can be happy and we need

to keep plugging away before we get to the European season to get some

upgrades on a car. To see your car on the podium, it has been a mixed

up raised? A somebody does a good job, they will get there. It worked

for Sergio. His gamble to go on wet tyres worked. And he was very quick,

but we will be hunting him down. We would be challenging towards the

middle part of the year. Another message from a driver looking

forwards. Many people had high hopes for Michael Schumacher this

weekend. Strong in qualifying, his best and returning to Formula One.

Third on the grid, but did not start as well as he wanted? He has

the reputation of being a good starter. We did not work out as he

pulled away from the grid. Michael checking his mirrors, brake balance

adjustments. And then he finds himself with Kimi Raikkonen on the

outside. Running a bit wide. Then finds himself on the outside which

shouldn't be too much of a problem. But has to get out of the power as

the Lotus claims the track positions. Michael had a wobble in

a third term. That allows Red Bull to pass. Keeping out of trouble at

this phase, then he gets TAG from the rear by Grosjean in the Lotus.

Michael completely blameless and lucky not to be collected by the

rest of the field. But it was a terrible Grand Prix. Nothing more

frustrating than seeing all of the cars streaming past is. He did

fight back, he fought up to tenth and picked up a point and is

talking to Lee McKenzie. Michael, a pretty eventful race,

you seemed an innocent victim at the start? Unfortunately it is part

of racing. It is a shame. I was hoping for a good result. You hope

among the how it will work for you. We have seen that under those

conditions I can occasionally do reasonably well. It was not the

case today Bostock but when you are stuck in the pack behind, I

physically did not see anything. So I was lucky and happy to stay on

the road. Low-key and could be FIA stop the race. It was the good

closer because we had a hard tyre and have a consistent approach with

us now. What was it like for a rookie driver? It was difficult,

especially at the beginning of the race. I did not know where I was

going. I know I was later to see the safety car and red flag to come

in. How hard was it at that point? It was very hard. So much

aquaplaning, it was difficult. veteran of two Grand Prix is, how

difficult was it to stay on the tyre? Was it your decision or did

you discuss it with your engineers? We had some radio communication

issues. But in the end it was a good call wasn't it?

with a Ferrari during a Grand Prix? It was fine. It was cool. It was

quite a tough battle? I was trying to get the DRS. You just coming out

of the slipstream early. Is that they used of KERS? It was the try

line. Two races into your Formula One career and you have point. Kimi

Raikkonen finished 5th. It was a pretty eventful race, some

it up? They did not have any idea how the tyres would be. It was the

first time. It was tricky to know how the car would behave, how the

tyres would be. I just tried to stay on the road and push as much

as I felt comfortable. The dry tyres, it took three laps. I had to

take it very easy on those laps. Not doing anything on the wet

before, Fifth is OK. But we are looking for better results. There

was plenty of this going on David, as the conditions changed and

drivers got a grip with differing conditions on the track, plenty of

overtakes in different positions? Kimi Raikkonen going here in the

first term. When it comes to the second, Kimi Raikkonen has tracked

position and it is a very clean position in the Mercedes.

enjoyed those overtakes on the outside? I do, because I can still

feel what it is like to be in the car. And in that line, you have so

little track to play with if you little track to play with if you

get it wrong. The bravery gave Fernando Alonso the wind.
