The Singapore Grand Prix - Highlights Formula 1

By the time it is dark, the cars will be on the track, the Singapore

Grand Prix. Highlights, and your weight in a moment. Here is how it

was looking, with seven races to go. Fernando Gonzo has not won a race

in a while, but he has an be had his lead cut by if you.. Red Bull

were dominating bite this time last year, but after today, they could

have lost the lead. Here is Ben Edwards with what happened in

qualifying. Singapore at night could be called

a picture postcard, but Bruno Senna might have wished he was not here.

He was out of contention in cutie. Romain Grosjean almost copied him,

but he escaped without damage and he shrugged off his ban by beating

his team-mate, Kimi Raikkonen, and he earned a start on the Forth Road.

Sebastian Vettel set the pace through practice, but when it came

to the final showdown, he came up short, and he will start from third

place. The surprise performance came from Pastor Maldonado. He

skimmed the war to set second- fastest time and the best ever

starting position for Williams in Singapore. Lewis Hamilton appeared

to be on a different level, up 1 C had adjusted. His best lap was

almost half a second faster than his rivals, and he took his fourth

-- he took the fourth consecutive pole position for McLaren. Three

different age that has represented in the first three places. -- three

in Singapore. Lewis Hamilton makes a good start. There is bunching

behind, Michael Schumacher trying to come down the inside. Sebastian

battle going into second place. Nico Rosberg and round the outside

of Mark Webber. Somebody touched the wall. Mark Webber and Nico

Rosberg both missed a corner. A great start from Sebastian Vettel.

We will be to see a replay of whether Nico Rosberg and Mark

Webber gained an advantage. Jenson Button is up to third place.

Pastor Maldonado has dropped to fourth place. Romain Grosjean

having to go over the kerb. He is back from a bad for a first-lap

incident, and he is trying to stay out of trouble. Nico Rosberg has

gone ahead of Michael Schumacher. Hulkenberg. He is chasing the Lotus.

Kimi Raikkonen started down there with him. Jenson Button up to third

place, Fernando Alonso up to fifth place. Most of the front runners

have got through. Vitaly Petrov's Caterham has no front wind, he

seems to be the only victim of damage. Where is the front wing?

Candy marshals recovery? Will it cause any issues? RADIO: -- did he

say he hit Vitaly Petrov? That could be awkward if they tangled.

Lewis Hamilton looking after his tyres, but he will not want to see

lane. Felipe Massa is right at the back. Something went wrong for him

in the other Ferrari. Vitaly Petrov has come into the pits. Lewis

Hamilton is in the lead. Felipe Massa his way back, something must

have happened. Michael Schumacher chased by Kimi Raikkonen. Felipe

Massa is into the pits. The Caterham team repairing the front

wing. They have changed the tyres, getting that out of the way. A new

set of soft tyres. They have gone from the super soft to the soft,

they had a puncture. There might have been some contact. Very likely.

He started in 30th place. There are some incidents under investigation.

That looked like Nico Rosberg and Mark Webber, coming off line. The

FIA will ask, did they gain an advantage? Charlie Whiting will

just take the view that, as long as there is not an obvious gain of

advantage, that is a normal race start. It is better to have that

than cars coming together. safety car at the beginning.

Despite the odd little incident, they have got away with it. You

need to go up the curbs to get a good lap time. Nico Rosberg is in

ninth place. Bruno Senna ahead of Kenneth -- ahead of Canary could be

a shave. A great start from Bruno - - from Paul di Resta. Mark Webber

and Romain Grosjean could run it out. Mark Webber and Nico Rosberg

did not have any option but to run wide. Look at Fernando Alonso on

the third row. Mark Webber, Romain Grosjean and Michael Schumacher,

and Nico Rosberg could come round the outside. It will be a difficult

call for the stewards, a number of cars missed the second corner

completely. That was a nice start from Pastor Maldonado. Right under

the gearbox. He runs wide, deep into the first corner. Sebastian

Vettel can it through. A very cautious Pastor Maldonado. He hooks

it up nicely, Bruno Senna. He releases the KERS. Look at the

advantage he gets by pricking round the outside. Great avoiding action.

There was nothing that Bruno Senna could do. He ends up getting passed

by a virgin. -- by Virgin. harder tyre is going to go on. The

re-equip suddenly went away from him. The tyres gave up. McLaren

seemed to be in better shape, looking after their tyres, Dan Red

Bull. What is crucial, where does he drop in amongst the pack? He

will be able to run a very fast out loud if he is in clear air. Lewis

Hamilton will come out into that group. It is a case of having to

get through the traffic. Gary Anderson? That last lap was 1.8

seconds slower than his fastest lap, he is trying to move through the

traffic, but he is running the risk of losing quite a lot of time.

Jenson Button is half a second slower on his fastest lap. Jenson

Button is running very well. I expect him to come out on top.

Sebastian Vettel fighting his way through the traffic. He takes the

place. Well Lewis Hamilton come in? He still has a third of the lap to

complete before we see. Sebastian Vettel gets through on the yellow

tyres. It is the heart of the compounds. -- be harder of the

compounds. Jenson Button could have the opportunity to jump Sebastian

Vettel. Jenson Button has closed up two Lewis Hamilton a bit. He was

4.5 seconds behind as they went past the finish line last time

around. Let's say if Lewis Hamilton will head into the pits. He will

stay out for at least another lap or so. Ferrari are getting ready.

That means that Fernando Alonso will be coming in. The championship

leader, Fernando Alonso, from fifth place. The Ferrari comes into the

pits. He wants to try and avoid losing too many points today to the

likes of Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. It is the harder

compound that goes on. Mercedes also getting ready. Michael

Schumacher also in. The Mercedes have gone a reasonable distance on

those tyres. Fernando Alonso will have some clean air. That will help

him. Jenson Button gained about a second on Lewis Hamilton. RADIO: We

have lost 0.3 on the first sector, and the same on the second sector.

He says he has a funny feeling. Let's hope it is that tonight is

given to be a good night. He is in a good position. That was a funny

spark. Jenson Button is still faster than Lewis Hamilton. The

question is... Sebastian battle has got to move through the traffic. --

Sebastian Vettel. He is trying to get past the Lotus of Kimi

Raikkonen. All of the guys around him, their tyres are governed off,

they are struggling with a lack of grip. He is going to struggle to

stay in front of Jenson Button. Lewis Hamilton is coming in.

McLaren are getting ready. Jenson Button will stay out. Again, Jenson

Button making good use of the tyres. He is able to eke out a bit more

performance. It is interesting to see the different styles of the

McLaren drivers. Lewis Hamilton can often get the maximum out of it.

Can McLaren beat their previous best pit-stop, the 2.4 seconds?

They got an award for it. It was really good again, very fast. Paul

di Resta coming in behind. Also, Nico Rosberg. 2.9 seconds, very

good, but not their fastest of all. Where does he come back out?

clean air. He is ahead of Sebastian Vettel. He did not lose as much as

I expected. The crucial thing will be, where will Jenson Button come

out? Sebastian Vettel will get the pass on Kimi Raikkonen. He will

DRS reducing and giving him those extra kilometres an hour he needed

to get past Kimi Raikkonen. Trying to get deeper into the race. The

people that have stopped already, they might be able to do this on

two stops but more likely on three of them. Straightforward, Kimi

Raikkonen does not even try to put up any fight. That would have put a

lot of dirt on his tyres. Maldonado, he should be able to do this on two

stops. If he can keep it together. Where is who go into rejoin? Looks

like he welcome out just in front, just behind a Hulkenberg and in

front of that battle between Perez and the Ferrari. Kimi Raikkonen is

in. Just keep an eye on this and we will see some more activity. Lotus,

not quite as quick. Not quite as fast as McLaren. We hear that

Jenson Button will be coming in at the end of the lap, the fastest lap

for Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel are both putting

in quick laps on their new tyres, having made the switch. Gary, what

are you thinking? Jenson Button is a little bit slower. As Sebastian

Vettel, with his new tyres, is one second faster. I think Jenson

Button is looking at the longer game. At the minute he has done

five laps longer than Sebastian Vettel on this first set of tyres.

That will put 10 in good stead at the end of it. TEAM RADIO: Stay out

for a bit. Felipe Massa it down in 23rd place, picking up a puncture

on the first lap. Jenson Button is in, from what was the lead.

Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, is trying to get past Sergio Perez.

Maldonado trying to get past the Force India. That was not as fast.

There seemed to be delayed. Not as quick as Hamilton. Will he be in

front of Hamilton? 3.8 seconds, he lost over one second on that.

Hamilton and Sebastien Vettel have crossed the start-finish so he has

come out behind that group so not as much progress as I expected.

That puts him back into third place, behind this battle. Hulkenberg has

gone in front of Maldonado. Hulkenberg started on the yellow

softer tyres. Maldonado going sideways as he tries to get around

the outside of Hulkenberg. Did he meet the corner? He managed to keep

possession. There was a lot of dust, not that front axle. Buried deep

into the corner. I can only imagine through the kink, the car bottomed

out, which is why we had that sudden kick sideways. Massive

feeling of the for balance. It is as if the steering gets heavier.

Like the back is being lifted up and taking away that group and

security. But he made that pass stick. Perez, still fending off

Alonso. Still on the tyres he started with. There is no chance

for Perez to defend any further. Fernando Alonso has got more and he

gets past Sauber. Returning the favour from a few weeks ago at

Monza. This is what Maldonado did. He just spins the retires at around

170 mph. The DRS was open. That is one of the down sides, if you have

it in kinks like this, and I am sure that will be part of the

discussion with the grand prix drivers. Look at how close that was.

Down with Dicko Rosberg and Kobayashi, turn No. 7. This is a

replay of Fernando Alonso and Sergio Perez. Releases the Kers.

Ferrari against Ferrari. Fernando Alonso has caught Hulkenberg. He

has not yet stopped. He is trying to go deep into the race on his

first set of a harder compound tyres. He is doing a good job so

far. He was very disappointed after qualifying yesterday. He felt the

team had not helped him get out at the right time and place. He is

responding with solid driving so far and he is giving up a lot of

group to the car behind them. he does pit, that will take him

about 30 seconds down the grid. Paul di Resta has already pitted,

he isn't a place and Hulkenberg will probably come out around 15th.

Fernando Alonso stays on the racing line and Hulkenberg does not put up

much resistance. Running about one second per lap store. Paul di Resta

has made a pit stop. It just shows you the different strategies that

will be playing out between those two Force India cars. Hulkenberg

and Perez are out of the rhythm of the others by not being in the pits.

One. Three-second gap over Sebastian Vettel and a further 3.7

seconds back to Jenson Button. Maldonado in 4th place and

Hulkenberg in 5th place. Fernando Alonso and six players, then Sergio

Perez, then Paul di Resta, Mark Webber. Grosjean in 11th place.

Bruno Senna has worked his way up to 14th place. Charles Pic has just

made a pit stop. We are on different tyres for both Hamilton

and Sebastian Vettel and it looks like McLaren was more comfortable

on super-soft but on these prime tyres, it looks like Sebastian

Vettel has got more pace. Having the pressure slowly onto Lewis

Hamilton. Paul di Resta is ahead of Sergio Perez. He has managed to

gain a place. Such a Perez on tyres that have done 18 laps, crossing

the line chased by... You can see those retires. Difficult situation

out there and another situation brewing is Hulkenberg is running a

couple of seconds slower than Paul di Resta behind him bus-top Mark

Webber goes up the inside and deter number five and he isn't able to do

anything to defend against that. The situation for up Force India is

Paul di Resta at has stopped to allow both drivers to run that

clean race and maximise their potential. They will have to ask

Hulkenberg to not make it difficult for his team-mate to get past. And

that, of course, takes away the team battle. Sergio Perez locking

up. And then planning this through the chicane astern No. 10. That is

where he gave up at his for Paul di Resta, probably on the exit because

Paul Bristow went through the chicane. He might have dropped a

place? -- Paul di Resta. He gets that much better drive from 13.

Sergio Perez really struggling with this tyres. Hamilton is in trouble!

Hamilton is out of the lead. He is in neutral, look at that dashboard,

he doesn't have any idea. Another failure to finish from Hamilton.

There are no gears getting selected. His World Championship hopes are

disappearing rapidly with that. Lewis Hamilton shakes his head. He

surely cannot believe what is happening. No finish for McLaren,

when there seemed to have some control, I would not say he would

definitely win this, but he was going to score good points. He was

well ahead of Fernando Alonso and this changes everything. Sebastian

Vettel now leads the race. Maldonado in third and Fernando

Alonso in 4th place. Well, I cannot believe it, really. Is a Jenson

Button filling to finish last time. We have seen Lewis Hamilton, he was

in that incident just a few races ago and what has been a purple

patch in terms of pace has not been converted into points. We have not

seen what led up to that but living at the car, everything seems intact.

-- looking. That is pure mechanical failure. He has done everything

right this weekend. He delivered when it really mattered. This

appointment as he walks away. he goes back to the yellow crash

helmet next time. You have to feel for Lewis Hamilton. Who knows what

would have happened later in the Grand Prix. That is one

disconsolate figure walking away. Lewis Hamilton, no points from

Singapore. Let us listen... Yes, when he shifted down the gears, the

drive was gone. He is pulling the paddles and he has the box in

neutral. Frustration, hitting the steering wheel. Well...! TEAM

RADIO: Gearbox failure, sorry about that. We did everything we could

yesterday. Great driving up until then. They did everything they

could, that tells us that that was an known issue. You can see the

smoke coming from the back of his car. I have to tell you, when you

see a competitor having a problem, you know that is an opportunity.

Maldonado and Fernando Alonso are both into the pits. This is for the

mechanics, they can serve as a car more quickly and they seemed to be

struggling with that stop but he does get released in front of

Fernando Alonso. That was a slow or stop for Williams. For 0.2 against

3.1. But he has kept it out in front and they have both gone on...

No, Maldonado is on super-soft. Surely Maldonado will have to make

another stop were as Fernando Alonso will try to do half of the

race on the set of tyres? He has a brand new set. He was looking good

over that last stand. He went from lap 12 until lap 30. It'll be

easier now on the tyres because there is less fuel. Williams

perhaps playing that more conservative game. But it is

crucial to score points, particularly in that battle with

Force India. Paul di Resta going well as well. That is what there

may be thinking about? Ferrari are taking that decision, it makes it

unlikely that the matter how well hooked up at Ferrari is, on a

different tyres, at this early stage, he will be able to hassle

Pastor Maldonado. There is that advantage with the tyres. Which

today will give Maldonado about a lap time. He has traffic ahead at

10 as he runs into that battle with Grosjean and Rosberg. This might

actually play further into Alonso's hands. This isn't good for Williams.

If they are experiencing issues with the brakes over heating, that

is when you get all that carbon dust, so this is the last thing

they want, to be running into dirty air from the store cars in front.

They will hope that Grosjean and Rosberg will be coming in any time

soon and they can then release fresh air. Some fresh air into

those brake ducts. * Some cars and a parkway above the track. TEAM

RADIO: You might be to cut through some stopping traffic, Hulkenberg

and Schumacher. That is it, three stops. It will not be easy but

overtaking is difficult year. You have to make the most of the softer

tyres. That is what Maldonado has to do, he has to try to get past

Grosjean and Rosberg quickly. This is helping Rosberg. What a tall

order that will be for Mark Webber, but only has he to pass those men

but he has to get another 29 seconds up the road to be able to

cover the fact that he has another stop, otherwise he will be hind

them. Sebastian Vettel still leading this race in the other Red

Bull. Fernando Alonso tucked behind Maldonado. My goodness, almost

having a go at getting past. will have a go. As they run onto

the back straight, in to turn Number 10. Messy stuff with HRT.

Alonso follows through. Has he used his Kers on that first attend? Has

he got some left? The run out of turn number 13. The slowest corner

on the track, this. When in a Group, particularly with at the back

marker, how easy is it to get caught out by the way its nose in

front of you? The concertina effect. The car in front makes his braking

point and as he starts shedding speed, the car behind reacts and

then the car behind 10. You can be caught out by how much earlier you

are forced to brake and on top of that, you are getting turbulence

from the car in front so the downforce that is available in your

car is reduced. When you hit the brakes, it does not slow down as

much. It is like taking weight off the car. This is certainly

difficult for Fernando Alonso to be running into for cars with the

dirty air. Imagine going through clouds following another aircraft.

That shakes the aircraft around. Cars don't shake, but they lose the

downforce. Difficult situation, here. Through the first few corners,

past the hospitality areas. Some Alonso. Pastor Maldonado got a

great drive from the fifth corner. Fernando Alonso lost out a lot on

the run through there and he missed an opportunity to potentially get

in front of Pastor Maldonado. You can see how difficult it is to

overtake. Through this tight section, they bunched up. Fernando

Alonso getting very close to Pastor Maldonado. Pastor Maldonado picks

up the slipstream from the car in front. That hurts when your head

bangs off the head restraint. It is just not form, but that is part of

Formula One. Drivers do still complain about that chicane.

great position, can he have a go down the inside? They run out of

the 48 corner. He goes to the inside, this will be closer. I knew

they would have to squeeze into the braking zone. He will not be brave

enough to go down the inside. This is under the grandstand. Great

stuff. It is great stuff, but I have got one hand across my face,

because you never know what will happen. Pastor Maldonado sliding

around, up to what the final turn. It has got himself a bit of

breathing space again. The super soft tyres on Pastor Maldonado's

car, they are not giving him the amount of grip we thought he would

have. The safety car will come out. Narain Karthikeyan. This is perfect

for those guys going for the two stops. That is beneath the

grandstand. The teams are trying to respond as quickly as possible to

the safety car, which has been called for. Kimi Raikkonen dived

into the pits. The safety car is out, we will try to pick up

Sebastian Vettel. Gary Anderson, the pit lane will start to get

quite busy. Yes, this is worth keeping an eye on. They will come

in as quickly as possible. Kimi Raikkonen might have lost their

place, but he will picket back-up. Just looking at the accident.

RADIO: I hit the wall, the front is broken. He turned into the

corner, the rear started to slide. As he corrected it, it takes you on

a wider line. That is the unforgiving nature of a street

circuit. The Marshalls have stood there patiently all weekend, they

felt the need to unleash some fire extinguisher! In comes the race

leader. They have to keep to a certain speed as soon as the safety

car is called, they cannot sprint in. This will block him when he

goes for his release. The Red Bull lollipop man had to wait before

releasing the Red Bull. He maintains the position relatively

of the McLaren. It cost him quite a bit of time. They waited for the

McLaren. A slow pit lane speed for a straight track. There is not

quite the same sprint they used to be under the safety car conditions,

because as soon as the safety car is called, you have to reduce your

speed to a set level. Pastor Maldonado has come in. We heard the

radio transmission that indicated there was a problem, and he has

come in. The back markers trying to catch up. There is still some

catching-up to do. Let's watch and listen. Not many clues, but you

have to feel for Pastor Maldonado. He has done everything right this

weekend, and he ends up with no points again, for the ninth Grand

Prix in a row. Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button, this was the same

last year. Sebastian Vettel won the race, Jenson Button was catching

him, but Sebastian Vettel had it under control. I wonder what will

happen as we get ready for the restart. RADIO: The need to get the

next pit-stop spot-on. Jenson Button thought Sebastian Vettel was

going for it, he nearly hit him. A great reaction from Jenson Button.

That will not have done any damage to his tyres. It looks like

Fernando Alonso has missed out on that. Sebastian Vettel will be

clean. Look at the gap back to Fernando Alonso. He has been caught

out. Racing resumes. Sebastian Vettel has the edge over Jenson

Button. Then, Fernando Alonso. He might have been caught out by

Jenson Button. Mark Webber attacking Nico Hulkenberg. Jean-

Eric Vergne is ahead of Michael Schumacher. The pit-stops have

worked for him. Perhaps there is a chance for him. Mark Webber still

be on the attack. Mark Webber is on the option tyre, side by side

through the kink. And he has not done it yet. Nico Hulkenberg is

defending the position. Here he comes. It will be on the outside,

though. Cutting back as they come up to the ninth corner. It took him

three corners to do what, but Nico Hulkenberg gave away at the end.

Turn and growth coming through, a mistake from Sergio Perez. --

Romain Grosjean coming through. Michael Schumacher should have an

opportunity to have a run at Jean- Eric Vergne. The slowest corner on

the track. Not much space. Sergio Perez has all but tyres. That is

partly why he struggled. Michael Schumacher! For the second year in

a row, he runs into the back of another car! This time, it is Jean-

Eric Vergne! Michael Schumacher again is out of the Singapore Grand

Prix. Another long finish to add to his tally this year. -- other non-

finish. Let's hope both drivers are OK. It looks like Michael

Schumacher was caught out by the rate of deceleration of the cars in

front. At that moment, these cars are running it not optimal. Michael

Schumacher steps out of his car. It could have been loath and pressure.

I expect he will go to Jean-Eric Vergne... Racing is raising,

incidents happen, the safety car is out. Let's watch that one. Michael

apologises. Disappointment for the young Frenchman, his first time in

Singapore. He had a chance of points. He was in with a chance. He

probably would not have scored them, though. What a disappointing way to

go out of a Grand Prix. The safety car for the second time. It is

likely this race will go to the time and it now. We have had two

safety car periods. It is likely we will go to the two hour mark. We

have got 38 minutes to go at the moment. They will have our man in

the pit lane during the maths. Michael Schumacher gets caught out

by the fact that Sergio Perez and Jean-Eric Vergne were going side-

by-side, they were braking early. As Michael Schumacher locks up the

front axle, the road ahead was completely blocked. The only safe

thing to do is to hit the car Square in the middle, to avoid any

more chinned. The safety car is due in this lap. They start to pick up

the pace. Jenson Button in second, Fernando Alonso in third place.

Paul di Resta is in fourth place. What an opportunity this is for the

young Scotsman. Nico Rosberg has come up to fit place. The race gets

under way again. Look at the battle behind. Kimi Raikkonen up the

inside of his team-mate. Romain Grosjean shuts the door in time. I

was worried there would not be any Lotus cars in the race at will.

is always difficult to judge. It looked like a committed Kimi

Raikkonen. He somehow managed to slow down enough on the dirty line

before getting close. Felipe Massa looking for a way past his fellow

Brazilian, Bruno Senna. He has recovered the situation well, given

that he had a puncture on the first lap. It is fair enough for Bruno

Senna to have brought him. Bruno Senna was wide, Felipe Massa was

sideways, that was as close as they would like to be to an incident.

Felipe Massa is on the softer tyre. He has a bit more grip. He is

making the most of it. They touch! They both get away with it, that is

incredible! That was brave from Felipe Massa. I do not think Bruno

Senna thought he would try to pass there. That is why there was

contact. It does not look like there is any serious damage. If

anybody doubts Felipe Massa's commitment, that was real

commitment. He needs a bit more speed relative to his team-mate.

Felipe Massa and Bruno Senna swapping places. That is so narrow.

They somehow got away with it. Kamui Kobayashi just behind Heikki

Kovalainen. Heikki Kovalainen lost a place, and behind him, Mark

Webber. Some really quick people further down. This is incredibly

tight. You would normally not expect anybody to overtake. Look at

Felipe Massa, drifting the car. It is more reminiscent of a MotoGP. He

cut back in. He releases some KERS, I am sure, and he gets squeezed

against the wall. He was committed. Somehow, he stops the car. I do not

in Bruno Senna thought he was going to be there. Did he touch the

barrier? You would rather touch that than concrete. That was great

control. Rob Smedley shakes his head in disbelief. Sebastian Vettel

is still leading. Heikki Kovalainen has come into the pits again. That

is a bit surprising. Daniel Ricciardo is fending off the furore,

but we are into DRS territory. They are using KERS as well. The

electrical energy based, that is recharged each lap. Daniel

Ricciardo used his the arrest to defend. -- he used his DRS to

defend. Felipe Massa has got such confidence. Felipe Massa had a bit

of KERS available, which has allowed him to get past the Toro

Rosso. Group -- good strategic driving, he is a pin 28 place.

matches his best finish in Singapore. Bruno Senna trying to

target the Toro Rosso as well. RADIO: They are investigating the

incident with Felipe Massa. That sounds like the Engineer at

Williams thinks that it might have been marginal from Felipe Massa's

side. I do not know what you would want to tell your racing driver. He

is the one under question, I would have thought. I would see it more

like a racing incident that, we were lucky to see the drivers

getting away with it. Jenson Button has just set the fastest lap. Gary

Anderson, that is looking impressive. He is currently in

second place. Let's just watch Bruno Senna, up to what the top

corner. Will he try to get past Daniel Ricciardo? I will come back

to Gary Anderson in a moment. He is into the DRS territory. This is how

Felipe Massa got past Daniel Ricciardo. He was able to cut back

Hulkenberg was trying to squeeze Kobayashi down. We can't actually

And that loss of power. Sebastian Vettel is up at the top part. This

will probably be the final lap of the race for Sebastian Vettel. It's

amazing to think double world champion as he is and that dominant

season last year, this will only be his second victory of 2012 if all

goes to plan here? Yes, let's not speak too soon but it shows how

competitive this season has been. We have Alonso on three and

Hamilton. Senna retires the car. He was running in 12th place. That

loss of power looks terminal. Yes, this victory will bring Sebastian

Vettel up alongside Webber and Button on two victories apiece, so

still one away from the Championship leader. He has led the

team once again. To yet another victory in Formula One. Just have

to do with that traffic and a nervous moment for Sebastian Vettel

but all under control. The chequered flag will be prepared at

the end of this lap. His gap over Jenson Button is down up to 8.3

seconds. And that the loss of Lewis Hamilton from this race, with

gearbox problems, really, from that moment, it has all been

straightforward for Sebastian Vettel. We have seen how

accomplished this man has. Yet again, he comes through the final

two corners to take back-to-back victories in Singapore for

Sebastian Vettel. His second win of the season. What a time to do it as

he tries to close the gap to Alonso. Jenson Button finishes in second

position. He looks back at that none finish in Monza. But, Fernando

Alonso, once again, picking up that podium finish, his 81st. He is

still racking up the points. But here, Sebastian Vettel has taken

the 4th Red Bull win of the year. Well done, you have won the

Singapore Grand Prix. You're back in this championship. Well done.

That victory at Bahrain, the last one, seems a while ago so he has

And you can see in 10th place, Sergio Perez picking up a point for

Sauber. That is why Mark Webber was penalised for his incident with

Kobayashi. He drops out of the points and Sergio Perez moves into

them. And the constructors championship... -- the Drivers

Championship. Who was Hamilton was in second, now he is in 4th place.

Felipe Massa might well think of a podium this year as his team that

wins the championship. Red Bull is being chased hard by McLaren. Let's

am OK, now. It is gutting and the car stopped because I was cruising.

Just managing the gap, if I needed to push work, I had the pace. Today

would have been an easy win for stop but that's not the case.

Red Bulls did a great job. We could have had a tight battle, Lewis

Hamilton and myself. They were quicker than the rest. I felt very

good, to be honest, on the harder tyres. It was nice to dictate the

pace every time Jenson Button had a go. I had to have an answer. We

were able to pull away. And secure the win. Congratulations, second

place on the podium and great.. I always want a little bit more.

There was one moment in the race when you're incredibly close to the

back of Sebastien Vettel's gearbox and the viewers were behind their

cushions. Tell us about that. closed my eyes! I didn't know what

was going to happen. The safety car went and that control the pace.

Fair enough. But when somebody speeds up in the middle of the

straight, you don't expect them to hit the brakes hard again. Third

place today but still in control of the championship. Yes, it was good,

over the weekend we were not very quick. On the circuit and at the

end, we finished ahead of three of the four main opponents. Ahead of

Kimi Raikkonen, Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton and the only lost

the point. It was a good weekend. Congratulations, how are you

feeling? It's great, it's a relief to have a straightforward weekend

for once. The last two of them have been difficult. To come here and

qualified the way we did, to transform that even better and

Carnforth, that shows the performance was there. And we are

able to challenge. When racing that there, you are in the Force India,

which is giving you everything you need, but how much of the showcase

for her talents as this? When you get closer and get results like

this, this is the best Alonso far. And enjoy that and then the next

Grand Prixs, we will get there. Eddie, penny for the thoughts of

Lewis Hamilton. He had the opportunity to really close down on

Fernando Alonso but that has gone? He showed great maturity the way he

walked away but inside he will be burning. For several reasons. Do I

stay with this team? Why do the same problems, one after another?

And as my championship over? You have to think, 50 points are about

ever, that is to begin somebody like Fernando Alonso. He was the

closest and that accolade belongs to Sebastian Vettel and he is

giving us a repeat of the 2010 championship win. The mirror image.

Almost identical, Ferrari and previously he had Mark Webber at

this time it is him. He could quite easily... No doubt with the

circuits coming up, they will suit Red Bull. They will fight very hard

to match 2010. Fernando Alonso picking up the points. He is doing

exactly what he needs to do to pick up a third championship that we

know he craves. And he probably deserves it. NEC when he qualifies

with the car, in my opinion, and he is able to drag a more out of that

car than any other driver. We know his talent. No-one would begrudge

him that their championship, if he was to get that. But it's not over

yet. This will be a titanic battle and in my view, right down to the

last race. He has been consistent and another man showing consistency

is Paul di Resta. Really starting to impress in the second half?

had problems in previous races, he had problems with Kers and he was

trying to get good points for the team but today was the icing on the

cake, 4th position. Force India are making a really good moves, moving

up on Williams and have passed over other teams. Their fight is to

finish in the top six of the constructors. And we will have to

watch to see what happens. Still there's a long way to go but they

are very competitive. Banks, Eddie. And the way this has panned out has

been perfect for the championship as well. Fernando Alonso remaining
