in their operating windows, but different cars are affected by windy

conditions. Not long to find out, this is round four at 19, and in

three weeks' time we will be in very controversial location for

Grand Prix. The unrest has led to heightened security, several

checkpoints to pass to get to this race track in the desert. The

problem? Yes, because of the big braking zones, recharging the KERS.

It takes a lot out of the tyre. Managing it is key. OK. Let's look

at how the drivers stand in the championship. Four manufacturers

championship. Four manufacturers and four world champions hogging

the top of the table. Just 12 points to Lewis Hamilton in fourth.

The Austrian team based in Milton Keynes are top of the constructors

table, with Ferrari breathing down their neck with a five-point gap.

Let's see how they qualified. Lewis Hamilton could only manage 4th, not

good enough in his eyes, especially as he had to carry a penalty into

qualifying following debris on the track damaging his tyre resulting

in a gearbox change. He now starts in ninth. Paul Di Resta had a

strong day getting through to the final part of qualifying, but in

Alonso, the only driver in the top ten who will start on the hard

drive. Mark Webber came into qualifying knowing that he was

carrying a three place grid penalty, he starts from seven. His

team-mate and last year's race winner, Sebastian Vettel, but is Red

Bull into second, but it was Nico Rosberg who stole the show. It was

over a quarter of a second faster than Vettel. Nico Rosberg takes his

second pole position in his career. Championship leader Vettel is

after his penalty, and Hamilton dropped from fourth to ninth. Button

settles for 10th, Grosjean is 11th, with McLaren's Sergio Perez in 12.

Valtteri Bottas is 15th with his Williams team-mate behind him

despite setting exactly the same time to 1000th of a second in Q1.

The Caterhams and Marussia fill 18-21, with Gutierrez at the back of

the grid following his penalty for causing a collision in China.

Let's have another look at that situation that Lewis Hamilton

encountered in that final session at practice, because it has provoked

quite a lot of chat. It has indeed, the season talk has all been about

You are looking pretty chilled ahead of the race, what is your realistic

expectation? If we finish where we are, that would be a massive result.

I do not think we should think like that, because our pace on Friday, N

P2, it is much harder than that, so fairly optimistic that we can try to

to find out, Tom and Lee are in the pitlane, Gary, David and Ben are in

powered pole position in Bahrain that Rosberg leads the field away on

harder tyre, so that gives them a five or six lap gap, that is where

he needs to make a difference. championship sees Vettel leading

from Raikkonen, Alonso is third in the points, but if he were to win

here today and Vettel were third, for example, then Alonso would take

the championship lead. Is that going to happen? Lots to look forward to.

The constructors championship, Red Bull have a 5-point advantage over

Ferrari, Lotus in third place, Mercedes in fourth. This is Nico

Rosberg, the pole position sitter, his second career pole position, the

11th ever for Mercedes in Formula One, but he has had a little bit of

bad luck so far this year, two nonce in issues for Nico Rosberg, so he

has only had that fourth place in Malaysia to score him some points.

Hear Ely could do with a good results today to try to correct that

position. Sebastian Vettel, the championship leader is going to be

starting alongside him, we know the Red Bull is quick, but how will it

look after its tyres? I think everyone has that question going

into the race, but as we get past the midpoint of the afternoon, we

will see temperatures drop as the afternoon goes on. A more key

question is where we will be running at the end of the first lap, getting

into clear air, that is absolutely key to preserving the tyres. Ross

Brawn is a cool character, he has been a and done that. He has, many

times. The wind speed has picked up quite a lot today. Let's just

quickly run you through the grid once again, Rosberg and Vettel on

the front row, the second row is all Ferrari, Alonso and Massa, and then

all Force India third row, with Di Resta and Sutil. Mark Webber is

seventh, Kimi Raikkonen eighth, and the top ten is completed by the

British drivers, Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes and his former team-mate,

Jenson Button, he was ten. Roma Grosjean and Sergio Perez are on the

sixth row, then Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg. Bottas and Vergne,

Maldonado and Pic. Jules Bianchi was outqualified by Charles Pic on this

occasion. Giedo van der Garde is 20th, then Max Chilton, 22 today,

let's see whether he can celebrate with a good result. Gutierrez lines

Sebastian Vettel. Will he be looking for a pass? It depends on

how they the other cars. -- manage the cars. Sebastian Vettel forced

to drive the long way round. Nico Rosberg holds his ground

beautifully. Nothing that Sebastian Vettel can do about it right now.

Fernando Alonso in third, Di Resta in fourth, but beginning to drop

back. Sebastian Vettel tries to go around the outside and does so! Can

he holed it? I'm not sure. He is on the dirt. He can't get through.

Sebastian Vettel again able to position that Red Bull more

accurately than the Mercedes in front. Taking a defensive strategy

in the early laps? It could only be a matter of time before he is

passed by both the Red Bull and the Ferrari. Fernando Alonso is sitting

back a little but, mindful of the fact that he lost his front wing in

Malaysia. The Red Bull catching up on the straights. It looks like the

Mercedes is struggling for drive in these early laps of the corners.

The DRS is coming up, which will make life even more difficult for

Nico Rosberg. Batten has made three places from the start, so good news

for him. -- Jenson Button. You have a puncture, you have a puncture.

That is bad news for Kimi Raikkonen. I think he lost a bit of ground a

moment ago, which we will check. Across the line comes Nico Rosberg,

and right behind him, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso. This is

the tyres and something has to go. At this point Sebastian Vettel

passed exactly where he passed the Fernando Alonso. This is absolutely

key for Sebastian Vettel to try to cuts down that one-second gap.

Perez is eight. Kimi Raikkonen behind. Really there with Sergio

Perez. There was contact between these two last time out in China.

Kimi Raikkonen was questioning whether Sergio Perez was weaving

too much and causing issues. Along so gets into position. Rosberg has

to be defensive. -- Fernando Alonso gets into position. There he goes!

That was like taking candy from a baby. Fernando Alonso takes second

place and Nico Rosberg coming back down the end of this road. Look at

this! He won't have that and he is back into second place. He used the

DRS very effectively. Nico Rosberg still their in second. A great

driving. Meanwhile Jenson Button is right at the back of this group,

chasing Mark Webber. Perez intake, Kimi Raikkonen 9th, -- Perez in

He has gone out onto the circuit. He had a puncture and he has gone

back on to track. Still the Jays for second place. Rosberg keeping

an eye. The front wing is not too bad, he has been told, trying to

drive through it to get some points. I wonder if there has been contact

with someone in a concertina effect. On board with Fernando Alonso, into

the braking zone in 14. Nico Rosberg able to take his line.

Fernando Alonso will be in a DRS zone. Clean as they drive off the

corner. The DRS activates now and you see that increase in top speed.

Will Nico Rosberg go defensive? Not this time. He is saving the KERS a

bit. They did not work. This time Fernando Alonso has taken second

place. He goes chasing after Sebastian Vettel. The next problem

will be the Force India of Paul Di Resta, in fourth. Mercedes against

Force India, carrying a McLaren gearbox. A lot of love and sharing

in Formula One! Let's take a look at the start. Fernando Alonso pulls

away. Further down the grid, you can see where Lewis Hamilton did

not make a good start. On the left of your screen. He was passed

cleanly on the run down to the first corner. Thankfully for him

there was some action behind. The door was wide open. He passes round

the outside of Romain Grosjean in a Lotus. He has to go defensive, you

can see at the bottom of your screen. Defending against Romain

Grosjean. On board with Kimi Raikkonen. He spins the wheels a

little bit in the second phase of the start. The door is wide open.

He has to make that judgement call. How will that car stop with 150

kilos? Brought Stan a little bit too much by Sebastian Vettel. --

brought down. But Nico Rosberg is firm but fair. He just comes round

the outside, if you don't mind. Paul Di Resta trying to get it from

Nico Rosberg. In to turn one, just giving each other enough space.

This got his just gaining ground. - - the Scottish driver. Right now he

is doing it on pure pace. Nico Rosberg under pressure from Felipe

Massa. I think the rear wing is broken on this Ferrari. Yes, rear

wing damage. Back to DRS. It has gone beyond open. How is the

managing to drive this car? He is taking 200 kilos of downforce. The

load of the wind should keep it in place, but expect to see the

Ferrari in here. Yes, that is the call for a Fernando Alonso,

dangerous to run with that rare win. He will be coming into the pit spot.

-- that rear wing. Ferrari's pit stops last time out in China were

not very good. They averaged 3.1 seconds, compared to 2.2 per Red

Bull. They seem to have got that flat down. The DRS is hinged on the

back of the wing played, so it has gone beyond Centre for whatever

reason. Sergio Perez coming out. OK, a quiet start from his career with

McLaren, but he wants some now. Nico Rosberg doing his best at this

stage, holding on to third place. Look at Kimi Raikkonen attacking

Sergio Perez. Last year the Lotus cars were able to make up ground,

but not at this stage. Sebastian Vettel draws a way with Di Resta in

second place. Nico Rosberg in third position. Both Ferraris in trouble

in the early stages. Let's see how Paul Di Resta is making out in the

second sector. The DRS is working how it is meant to hear. No! It is

broken. It has gone be on centre so he has to go to the pit stop again.

I am surprised the team did not give him the message not to use DRS,

because once you have got an issue, what are the chances of it coming

back? Sebastian Vettel in the pit stop and we have a Lotus as well.

Romain Grosjean has virtually no brakes. He has been told to move

the brake balance forward on the radio but that is shopping. Mark

Webber has to look in his mirror to see exactly where the other car is,

but he has some front damage on his Ferrari. Hamilton still in ninth,

the other Mercedes. Mark Webber is into the pit stop. Quite a lot of

pit stops quite early. These guys will be on a three-stop strategy, I

would think, to be stopping so early. Fernando Alonso has been in

and out again. The Azuma be with the message not to use the DRS?

presumably. As to say, surely you can't use it now? That is where the

damage to Jean-Eric Vergne's rear tyre was. Let's look at the replay.

Sebastian Vettel in to turn four. He is able to us a lot of the curve

on the left-hand side. Keeping it tight through six. This is Felipe

Massa getting past Nico Rosberg a moment ago. That is with the DRS.

Coming back on the brakes. Running in third place now. I think Jenson

Button was heading into the pit stop as well? Yes. Early stops. One

of the intriguing ones, Romain Grosjean did nine laps on the hard

tyres. Mercedes and McLaren send their guides en route. How long

before Sebastian Vettel will want to change his own tyres? On the

medium compound tyre. He is in the dream position now. A five-second

lead over Di Resta. He has seen the reaction to fresh tyres for much of

the opposition. It is pretty much in his hands to manage it now.

Force India are not coming out. That means Di Resta is likely to

take the lead in this Grand Prix, as he did last time for the first

the front wing. He has come out in front of Perez and McLaren. Webber

has just gone through, coming out just behind Button. Yes, he has come

out in fifth place, Sebastian Vettel. Grosjean gets the place on

Perez. Meanwhile, back with the race leader, Paul Di Resta, clearly the

message from his engineer has suggested they are aiming for two

stops this afternoon. Kimi Raikkonen is looking a little bit quicker on

this lap, the gap is down to 3.5 seconds. Yes, Kimi was about extents

quicker than the race leader, Paul Di Resta, but the fastest man on

track is Sebastian Vettel. He is the fastest of those who have stopped

and is now into third position, he is chasing, only five seconds behind

Raikkonen. Look at this, side-by-side, battling for seventh

place. Button has lost the position back to Rosberg and almost two Massa

as well. Massa was going to be under pressure from Grosjean as well as

they exit through the king at three. Oh! Massa down the inside of the

McLaren, but Jenson allows it to run wide, but Grosjean comes back at

massacre broke, contact, that is as close as you want at 120 mph.

is great stuff, what a scrap, and diving down the outside is Sergio

Perez. Grosjean will not have that, squeezing in wide on the exit. They

are all on the harder compound tyre. The only one of the

frontrunners who has switched onto mediums is Lewis Hamilton. In fact,

he started slightly different to them. Nico Rosberg, then, looking a

little bit happier on this second set of tyres. Jenson Button chases

him, then Massa, Grosjean, Perez, all fighting for sixth place.

Upfront it is Paul Di Resta who leads the race by 3.5 seconds at

this point. Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel are catching on

what will be a three-stop race for the Red Bull, we would think, as

opposed to a two-stop race for both Lotus and Force India. You can see

the damage on Massa's front wing. Raikkonen continues to close the gap

to the race leader, down to three seconds, and Bottas is now in the

pits. Yes, and we have still got this fighting going on between Perez

and Grosjean in the background, the McLaren on the outside of the

Lotus, side-by-side, two young drivers desperate to prove

themselves. Both have a difficult start to their seasons, Grosjean was

on the podium here last your. Sergio Perez was on a couple of podium

finishes with Sauber last year, but he has not looked like anything

similar this year, but of course the McLaren team have been struggling

with performance. Let's see what he can do here, trying to get alongside

the Lotus, there, though. Grosjean has been fairly quiet this season,

it has to be said, defending well here. Perez takes a big lunge down

the inside, Grosjean leaves some space, but you are driving from

Grosjean. Perez, no harm in having a go, but that was a bit optimistic.

Sensible driving from Grosjean, as you say. Box after this lap.They

have got to lap 13, that is good to stop territory, as long as the next

tyre, the harder tyre, works well. -- ttwo- stop territory. We will get

a real idea after this next stint and indeed which car works better on

which tyre. Sometimes one car works better on the median, another works

better on the heart. That is as much a reaction to closing the gap to

write in and. And that puts him into the race lead. Vettel take the lead

from Raikkonen. He is on a three-stop strategy and has already

managed to get past Kimi Raikkonen, who was trying to stretch out the

distance on the first set of tyres. Vettel is running very quick laps on

the hard tyres. Lotus will keep an eye on his lap time, he is unlikely

to spring a time that will get him in front of Paul Di Resta at this

round of pit stops, but he sensibly did not fight too hard with Vettel.

He could lose lap time, so that gap to Di Resta, it will increase now

that's Di Resta is on a fresh set of tyres. Kimi Raikkonen is into the

pits from second place, the Lotus pit, Sebastian Vettel is the race

leader, but he has gone deeper into this race than the Force India. Oh,

a little slow getting the front jack away. He is going to be way behind

this group of cars. Where is he versus Di Resta? You can see the

Force India has just gone through, Rosberg, he slotted in front of the

Williams. That is Maldonado. That is right, he is ahead of Hulkenberg,

behind Maldonado, not ideal for them. Tom? I am near the Lotus pit

at the moment, and what happened there was the front right was

slightly slow, and Kimi was not aware of that, he thought he could

go, and he couldn't, as we are watching now. Yes, just seeing that,

just a little delay getting that front jack free as well, wasn't it?

It almost clipped the wing, but I think they got away with it. They

need a bungee attached to that front jack, the cars go so quickly now.

The man cannot pull the loft of limbic device away quickly enough.

-- lump of lifting device. Massa has been passed by Grosjean and Perez,

in trouble, Massa, we will keep an eye on him. Jean-Eric Vergne is...

He is cruising. He is in trouble, he is going to be retiring, too much

damage on the Toro Rosso. Massa is keeping out of everybody's way. It

looks like this might be race over, or they may change the front wing.

Look at the vibration. Yes, I think he may have got a flat spot. They

are out in the pit lane with a new set of tyres, is it simply that he

got a flat spot? Look at the right rear. The lamb and, well spotted,

Ben. It shakes the fillings out of your teeth. -- delamination. Is that

something that is similar to what Hamilton had in practice? Let's have

a look at these tyres, he has got to from lap 11, so it is unlikely to be

where, maybe damage from a curb or pure delamination of the tie-up. We

saw it with Hamilton in free practice. It is a worrying sign, no

doubt about it, all the other teams will be paying attention to that

one. Button is in fourth place, behind Rosberg in third, so the top

order is Vettel and Webber, Red Bull one and two, Rosberg third, Button

fourth, then Grosjean. As we thought, Vergne is being retired.

This is what has been happening, a very busy opening segment to this

race - Nico Rosberg led the initial laps what but was under attack

almost immediately, the Mercedes struggling for pace. We saw great

dicing between Alonso and Vettel, but Alonso has dropped out of the

equation after a problem with the DRS on his rear wing sticking open,

and he has had to make an extra pit stop. Button trying to get past

Rosberg, can he make the move down the outside for third place? He

tries, but Rosberg... He has got through, Jenson Button, a bit too

much wheelspin from Rosberg, who was now under threat from Romain

Grosjean in the Lotus. Sergio Perez is not far behind, wheel to wheel

they go, Rosberg cannot defend any longer, and Grosjean is in fourth.

Rate strategy from Jenson Button, he knew he did not have enough on the

way into turn one, but he had a short squirt before two, and

Rosberg's Mercedes could not make the tyres last. Lewis Hamilton has

been told by his engineer that the pace is looking good, to which he

replied, it doesn't feel that way, man! I mentioned Alonso's problems

earlier, he is down in 12th, and to remind you also that Massa had a

problem, we saw the tyre delamination, that big vibration,

and he is back on circuits now, Felipe Massa, all the way down in

15th, and from a second row start, the Ferraris look like they will

struggle to take any points from this race at all. Just riding on

Sutil, all the way down in 20th, he had problems at the start of the

race with damage on his car. Vettel is the race leader. Here comes Perez

once again on Rosberg as they come down to the final section. In fact,

that is down to the start finish straight. Here they come, both of

them. Into the pits comes Rosberg for his next pit stop. He will be

further down the pitlane, Rosberg, yes, a little bit slower than the

McLaren, but he gets out in front because he has got track position in

the pitlane. We are not seeing nearly as many laps on the hardest

tyre. Look at this, Grosjean and Button, Grosjean takes third place,

but he runs wide, Button will be wary a little bit and he gets the

place back. Jenson Button goes wide himself, Grosjean will try to take

the momentum. Box this lap, Bush now! He is pushing and being pushed,

all at the same time. He is having a great afternoon when you consider

they were delighted to qualify inside the top ten, strategically

did not do a time in qualifying, started with a fresh set of tyres.

He is now trying to defend, he will be open to a DRS pass here from

Grosjean, although Grosjean was a little bit slow on acceleration from

turn ten. Button knows he is coming in this lap, he can use any

available grip on the tyres on this run to the pits, this is flat in

qualifying, not quite now, as we go through the early phase of burning

fuel. They have probably burned off not happy, is he? Di Resta is in

fifth place on what we think is a stock less than everybody else, and

he is doing well at this point in the Force India. Webber and Button

come into the pits, Grosjean stays out there, Vettel leads this Grand

Prix, as he has been now for quite a few laps. We see the pitstops take

place, good pit stop from McLaren, getting on his way. Jenson Button

and Mark Webber, Webber out of the pits first of all, he comes out

behind Fernando Alonso there. behind, Rosberg defending again from

Perez. Rosberg has spent his whole race defending, and Button gets out

just in front of Felipe Massa, but of course Massa had that extra stop

already himself. Perez has got in front of him again, Jenson Button is

behind Rosberg, he lost some time in that phase of the pitstops, both on

and two stops already, and Perez makes the past stake, that is a

popular overtaking spot coming out of turn four into the high-speed

chicane. Adrian Sutil has just set a fastest lap, he is down towards the

back of the field but showing good pace. Massa get past Valtteri

Bottas, that is for position, 13th place. Massa is struggling a little

bit to just go down the inside of Bottas, but he gets through nicely.

Tom, you saw the McLaren pit stop. Jenson lost a little bit of time in

a stop, but the choreography of the pits crew is so much better than it

was here last year. Keen F1 fans might remember that they have some

disastrous times last year with Lou was losing five blazers at his first

stop last day, a 12 second stop. -- Lewis losing five blazers. Much

better this year. He can physically see how he is having to grip that

steering, these Formula One cars have power assistance, but nowhere

near the level we enjoy in our comfortable family saloon cars. He

is having to fight the amount of load that is kicking through the

steering. The Mercedes of Hamilton is in the pits. Webber battling with

Alonso, both of these guys are doing their 200th Grand Prix this weekend,

and they would be rather fighting up front than seventh and eighth

positions. Outcomes Lewis Hamilton once again from what was his second

pit stop. We are on lap 23, not quite half distance, and here we

are, Perez still side-by-side with Rosberg. Jenson Button not far

behind, Perez doing everything he can to get past the Mercedes. Can he

complete the move? This is helping Button close up, as Webber gets past

the Williams of Maldonado. Webber opening the gap to Alonso, who

stopped on lap nine because of the issue with the DRS, so he is on much

older tyres, even though they have both done two stops this afternoon.

It is damage limitation for Ferrari, trying to get a few points. It is

some time since they had either car -- neither car in the points, so a

lot to play for this afternoon. Rosberg holding on just about in

position at the moment ahead of these two McLarens, but they are

down in ninth, 10th and 11th places here. We are on lap 24 of 57,

Sebastian Vettel leads the race by 21 seconds from Romain Grosjean.

This was Webber on Alonso just a moment ago. Very straightforward.

Crucially, Vettel has got that gap beyond the 22nd he would need to be

able to come in, make stop and get out again. Mark Webber is next on

the two - stop us. Look at Button, oh, my goodness, on his team mate!

That could have been frightening, but they have both got past the

Mercedes. Rosberg says he's going to stay there and runs right around the

outside, will he hold it or not? space. Great driving. He did it

stop on lap number 25. That is a fairly routine three stock raised.

He has done a decent length on that lead in this Grand Prix by two or

three seconds. That works well for Red Bull, even though they are on

bless -- less stops. Mark Webber in fifth place. Sebastian Vettel tries

to overtake again. Trying to get down the inside of Nico Hulkenberg.

Sergio Perez as well. How is Sergio Perez getting DRS? He had it open?

Where did you get the activation from? Alessio was behind Nico

Hulkenberg going into the last corner. -- and unless he was. I

think I have answered my own question! The Sauber of Hulkenberg

has only done one stop so far, so maybe they are trying something

else. They have done 13 laps on these tyres. Judging from what they

did in practice, that should be achievable. We have seen in a race

that they are not getting what they expected from them. Tom? He seemed

surprised by Hulkenberg's strategy, because they were getting somewhere

and tear in practice. On Sergio Perez, are you seeing a different

driver? Yes. They are battling for points, but also the best of the

rest and team on. -- team are now. Romain Grosjean down the straight.

In the hunt for a podium finish, Paul Di Resta has got past one of

his key challengers. On a different strategy to some of the other teams

around him. Jenson Button is ahead of Sergio Perez. The sum dicing

going on between the team mates as they came down the straight.

Looking at the low does boys getting ready. This will be for

Romain Grosjean. -- Lotus boys. He has done a longer stint on that set

of hard tyres. He has put a medium tyre on this time. There about this,

two McLarens virtually together as Romain Grosjean rejoins behind

Felipe Massa. In ninth place. The fastest lap for Sebastian Vettel,

showing once again at that Red Bull is flying. Lewis Hamilton. He is

down in tenth place. Having a very quiet afternoon at this point.

Sergio Perez goes for it down the inside of his team mate! Don't hit

each other, boys! They just managed to get through. Jenson Button stays

ahead. Do they need to be fighting this hard? I guess they are racing

for position, which is fair enough, but it is putting them in danger.

Contact! Sergio Perez runs into the back of Jenson Button. Golden rule,

don't hit you to make! -- your team mate! I know that because I have

done it in the past! What was looking like a great performance

from Sergio Perez is and done. He has lost the front end plate, which

has gone off the car, like Felipe Massa's. Just watch. Jenson

Button's defensive. That makes him slow. Sergio Perez tries to cut

puncture? Absolutely. It you can put both cars are out on the spot.

-- you can put both cars out. Sebastian Vettel is enjoying

himself out in front. May has been told to keep the place of 1:39. He

is doing exactly what he has been told by the team. That Red Bull

does look dauntingly fast and under control. Another lap, 1:39.3,

almost identical to the previous one. Romain Grosjean has the

benefit of DRS, which will give them a few tenths of a second.

Clean air, without the benefit of taking the drug off. -- drag. He

has just been told to do high 39s of. He is still getting right onto

the gearbox of his team-mate, Jenson Button. They might have

another go for a stock Kimi Raikkonen coming down, side by side,

action from Jenson Button, giving him not any space at all. It is

getting hairy between the McLaren team mates. That is an angry Jenson

Button, who could have been more compliant given the nature of the

corner. It runs out on to what was the extended Grand Prix track, from

Sergio Perez would get back at the McLaren pit. It is one thing to go

racing but you have to do it in a way that keeps your team mate the

safe, above all else. Jenson Button reacts by saying, OK, I will drive

inside of Sergio Perez. He is not giving up! Side by side. He managed

to get out of that but to really had to lift. Romain Grosjean forced

to the outside. Trying to go round the outside of the McLaren and he

just does it. They really are putting on a display for us. I

don't think it is something Jenson Button is enjoying a saying from

the youngsters in Formula One. Excuse me, I am holding my breath!

You don't know what will happen. Sergio Perez cuts back a bit. Then

the battle continues. The rear facing camera on Sergio Perez.

would love to be in the next drivers' briefing after this one.

Pretty exciting stuff. Sergio Perez was resolute in his defence but

Romain Grosjean got through. This is the fight for second place. Kimi

Raikkonen has caught Paul Di Resta over the last few laps. These guys

have a similar strategy. On to the dirt, Kimi Raikkonen, the Lotus in

second. Paul Di Resta still in the hand but he has had to concede a

driver's ears. At some lap time, manage the tyres, clear

instructions that it is under control. The Lotus boys are coming

out, presumably for Kimi Raikkonen. He has done a reasonable stint on

those tyres. He was last in on lap 16. Yes. This should see him

through to the end of the race on his two-stop strategy. Perfect

timing for him. He has already got ahead of Di Resta, so interesting

to come in now. On to the hard compound tyre. The first pit stop

between him and Sergio Perez, which should help him. Last time he got

the first one and surged ahead. Jenson Button rejoins in 12th place,

so Felipe Massa is now behind his team-mate, Alonso. The Force India

boys ready for Paul Di Resta. Probably just behind Alonso, I

would imagine. Actually, yes, between Felipe Massa and Alonso, I

suspect. Felipe Massa in that group behind. Has he got a problem? The

Ferrari coming in. A late move. Looks like they will be retiring

the car. Nico Rosberg under threat from Jenson Button. It is the tyre

again! Why is it all happening for Felipe Massa and nobody else?

could be a particular line, debris, an area that he is running over?

Unlikely that it is a pure Ferrari issue, otherwise we would expect

the same thing from Alonso. Felipe Massa goes on his way, but another

tyre problem for him and only him. Let's look at the replay. He starts

to accelerate off the turn and he splits from the side wall of the

tyre. That is a fantastic piece of footage for Pirelli in trying to

understand what is going on with the tyres. Very different failure

to whether the trend surface came off, which was different. -- when

Can Sergio Perez slip past? He gets DRS as well from Hamilton in front.

Kimi Raikkonen has got the move done, which gains home another

position. He is now in fourth place Unquestionably! That was pretty

hefty contact. Nico Rosberg is still running round quickly. Lewis

Hamilton under pressure from Kimi Raikkonen. Kimi Raikkonen all over

the back of the Mercedes. That should give him DRS anyway? Yes, I

think he did it... No need to worry, Lewis Hamilton is back in. This is

his third pit stop. He has been struggling today. He has managed 15

laps on are those tyres. That will see him through to the end of the

Grand Prix. A way goes Lewis tenth position. We wondered when

Sergio Perez would be coming in. His tyres will be fresher than his

team made. Alonso on his way as well behind Sergio Perez. I think

he came out behind Hamilton. Hulkenberg behind. Jenson Button

world down in the road on the straight towards turn four. -- well

down. This has been a beautifully judged race from Sebastian Vettel

so far and the Red Bull team, as we have come to expect over the years.

The pit stop goes according to plan as well. Beautifully in control

here. He will be very happily in place. Romain Grosjean has just

added to the pit lane. That is the race leader. Comfortable drive from

where will he come out? Behind Webber, a roundabout where Button, a

really good challenge with Jenson Button, here's an fresh tyres, that

is a crucial move for Romain Grosjean, and it puts Button under

pressure from Rosberg as well. Rosberg be able to use that? The gap

is a little bit too much. Button does not have to go defensive.

just take a look, Perez now putting Hamilton under pressure for eighth

place. Behind them, Fernando Alonso is desperate to score some points

from what has been a really disappointing day at the Sakhir

circuit in Bahrain, a track that Ferrari have won one four previous

occasions. The rear wing problem for Alonso and two front wing problem is

and tyre problems for Massa, but you know that Alonso will not give up.

replay of the stop, a little bit of hesitancy on the front left, it took

a little bit longer to get that gun released, but he had time to play

with. Alonso looking racy, this is a replay of Grosjean coming out,

Button had tried to roll the car through the apex, but Grosjean gave

him the squeeze. Here it is from the today, he needed a decent race. He

has been in the points of all the races so far. Grosjean has pitted

the same lap as you, he is the man to watch. Here he comes down the

inside of Webber! And Rosberg gets past Button, or does he? Button has

to give that up, and Grosjean is on the attack. Red Bull are still a bit

worried about Grosjean. Look at all this, Perez now with Alonso trying

to go past the Mexican. Write down the outside, he cannot do it there,

he will try to get the cutback, but the Spaniards denied for the moment,

but that Ferrari is looking fast. Meanwhile, we have got Rosberg and

Button, Hamilton in that group as well, a position. Behind them, for

ninth and 10th, Perez and Alonso. We have seen some tyre issues, let's

get more on that with the Pirelli motorsport director, Paul Henry.

All, we have seen some tyre issues in the race, particularly with

Massa, what can you tell us? He has been very unfortunate. The first

tyre, there was a big cut through the belt, which is very deep, it is

a strong part of the tyre. I have not seen the second, but apparently

he had another cut through the side wall, very unlucky. A lot of

marbles, have you been surprised by the high where this afternoon?

not really. 40 Celsius on track, it is a high where circuit in terms of

the material, so that is not surprising. It will be interesting

to see if Kimi and Di Resta do a two-stop race, that will be

surprising. Hamilton is attacking Jenson Button down the inside, he

has got the DRS in operation, and the Mercedes gets past the McLaren.

The McLaren also had DRS, because he had been following Rosberg, who has

now come into the pits, but Hamilton wins that little tussle between the

Mercedes and the McLaren, and Rosberg now comes back out of the

pit lane. Perez goes for Button. Again on his team-mate,

straightforward down the inside, nothing that Button could do about

that, and Alonso, without any DRS, has to overtake in these twisty

sections, proving incredibly difficult. It is not an easy track

on which to overtake. Down the inside of Button, that was

beautiful, Button just gives in space, and Alonso makes the move

stake. That puts the Ferrari now into eighth place. Well, Perez,

credit where it is due, fantastic aggressive driving, good use of his

McLaren. Damage to the front wing from the contact with Button earlier

in the Grand Prix, but in the end Button had no answer to the balance

that Perez is showing. This is a replay of Alonso, he saw the

opportunity, sneaking down the inside into turn four. Jenson gives

in the space. Yes, he had just enough room. Perez on younger tyres

than Jenson Button, so he has got that bit more track performance at

this stage, but look at Alonso bearing down on Perez once again, a

similar number of laps on their tyres, Ferrari and McLaren...

McLaren in. Yes, Button in for another pit stop. Alonso goes

side-by-side with Perez. He has got no DRS, of course, so they are

fighting with the same tools. And Alonso gets the past. He has to be

careful, though, to brake the gap to Perez. Otherwise he will be a

sitting duck. What has been going on here? This is Maldonado with Massa.

I think it was Massa, wasn't it? Yes. Yes, it was. What actually

happened? I think he just manages to sneak through, Maldonado. Vettel

leads by 9.3 seconds, writing in Di Resta is bird in the fourth India.

-- Raikkonen is bird, Di Resta is in breathing down his neck. Hamilton on

Webber. No, Webber going quite steep. Webber really slow on the

entry to turn one, Hamilton almost nudged the back of his gearbox

there. Webber is in trouble, Hamilton will go for the past.

Straightforward for Hamilton. looks like a wounded car in a way.

It did not look like there was any KERS available, I wonder if Webber

has some issues. 13 laps on the tyres, he should have been able to

manage that, I would have thought, but maybe some damage in the

collision with Rosberg. Nothing obvious, unless he has tweaked a

toll on the car, something from a bodywork point of view. This is a

replay of the past and into turn four. It would have been visible to

us if there was some damage. In the end, I think he knew it was almost

inevitable, he tries to do his thing on the brakes, but Hamilton slips

through. Look how close Grosjean is to the back of Di Resta here. This

is for the final podium spot between Paul di Resta, who has never had a

podium finish, and Romain Grosjean, who got his first-ever podium here

12 months ago. You have got to feel for Paul, he can almost taste the

rosewater in the last laps of this Grand Prix, but for Grosjean, this

should be fairly straightforward. There is a reasonable gap as they go

across the line, but the DRS will open on the Lotus. Here comes Romain

Grosjean, he gets past Di Resta, and I think, yes, he does, he gets into

third place. I wondered whether Paul was going to fight extra hard, it is

a special to get your first podium. It would be a great result for him

to finish fourth. He has not given up completely. But member, he is an

tyres that have done 16 laps, the hard compound tyre, 16 laps,

compared to the medium tyre on Grosjean's car, that is no contest.

It may not be a podium this afternoon, it remains to be seen

whether the cars in front maintain liability, -- reliability, but it

has been a fantastic drive from Paul di Resta. In the end, Grosjean has

the inside line. Such a tight cut back through one into two. A round

of applause from his team. He's had a fairly quiet start to the,

Grosjean. An unsafe relief being investigated from Van der Garde.

have something similar in Malaysia where the two cars came together,

that is down to whoever it is who releases the car from the box, it is

his responsibility to look down the pitlane. Hamilton really having to

defend from Webber, who can go around him. Suddenly, Hamilton is

struggling for grip on the Mercedes. He has got to 14 laps on the hard

tyre, but it is what we have seen before, they go away a little bit on

the Mercedes when some of the other cars... But Webber, can he hold on?

Just about, he is in front of Hamilton. In the background, Alonso

under pressure from Perez as well. You do not want to take a knife to a

gunfight, and he is in a slightly vulnerable position, no DRS

available, trying to mix it with these guys. He will have to do it

the old-fashioned way, find a position to affect on overtake, and

he will be hoping that Perez overheats the servers of his tyres

while running into the air, but he has to go defensive. Perez has got

the inside line, and he is down the inside of the Ferrari, who goes

side-by-side on the exit of the corner, squeezed out wide, oh, they

touch! Now Perez gets through. I wonder how Alonso feels about that

one. Well, not nice.He is coming back at him, trying to go around the

outside, he will get the cut back on the exit. You might expect Perez to

give him some space, but Perez did to them exactly what Jenson did.

Risky to put yourself on the outside, but he should get the cut

back out of turn ten. We are seeing some real racing here today, Alonso

hampered by the loss of DRS on his rear wing, but you can feel that the

blood is up now inside that Ferrari cockpit. One angry racing driver,

there has been some great racing this afternoon. There has, let's

take another look at this. Because of the shape of turn four, a

wide-open except, Alonso decides to run around the outside. Perez did to

run around the outside. Perez did to Alonso what did to Perez and just

gives him the squeeze. He does not he has the chance to take the

place, Webber goes to the inside, gives him a cars with, according to

the rules. But it is certainly very hot stuff between Webber and

Hamilton, who cuts back now, great opportunity to take on down the

inside into turn four. Webber is not going to give it up easily, and

through goes Hamilton, side-by-side, this is great stuff! Hamilton gives

in space, Webber gets back in front. A perfect example, Hamilton gave him

the space, Perez did not. Well, Mark survives until this next straight,

presumably. Two great races here. Hamilton really feeling it right

now, using the grid from this car. As a driver, they love it when it is

like this, it might not be for the win, but they are loving it wheel to

wheel. Not just them as rivals, past the commentary box, this is great

stuff, we have seen quality racing. No big damage to any of these cars.

The fastest lap of the race there, 1:30 6.9, how does that compare to

previous fastest laps? It is not as quick as the previous lap record,

but let's keep an eye on Hamilton, he still has not given up on the

idea of getting past Webber. He has made up three places from where he

started the Grand Prix, he had that gearbox penalty, a very unfortunate

thing. He picks up the DRS, look at the increase in speed, he is

catching and closing, Webber goes defensive. Hamilton is forced around

the outside, and again the Red Bull has just enough pace, a big slide on

the rear, and that has lost in speed guaranteed year, Hamilton getting

dust on his tyres as he tries to find a way past Webber. This is

going to go right down to the line. Great stuff once again between

Webber and Hamilton, they have just got to avoid running into each

other. Asking about the fastest lap from last year, it was Vettel, six

tenths slower, the lap he has just done. Look at this, it is so close,

and it has been so close lap after lap. Mark Webber is enjoying his

200th Grand Prix here today. He might not be about to win it, but a

wonderful dice with Lewis Hamilton. Look at the space that Lewis leaves

him as Mark comes back, I will give you the space! He was always going

to come back, Lewis allowed for that. We are on to the final lap

now, and Sebastian Vettel is in total control, and he has been from

a pretty early stage, it has to be said. He started on the front row of

the grid. RADIO: Stay under control. Understood. Understood, he is being

very well behaved today. That was probably after he set the fastest

lap. Red Bull are looking good for the win here, it is going to be a

Renault engine one, two, three, as it was last year, Renault engines in

the Red Bull and the two Lotus cars, but Paul di Resta is on target to

achieve all matches best ever... Hamilton down the insightful

birthplace, and he is on to the last lap. -- Hamilton down the inside for

fifth place. That is a key move, he gets past Mark Webber, but can he

hold on for the remainder of the lap? This was it, down the inside.

In the end, Lewis going down the inside. Here is our race leader,

Sebastian Vettel, and he has just got the final part of the lap to

complete. Down the back stretch towards the final turn, I think

Perez might have got past Webber, yeah, he has just got past Webber.

Out of the final turn, here comes Sebastian Vettel, Sebastian Vettel

wins in Bahrain! It is back-to-back victories here at the Sakhir

circuit, and it is also the first repeat winner of 2013, second place

goes to Kimi Raikkonen, who is getting another podium finish, his

third of the year. And third position will go to the other

Lotus, it is a double podium once again in Bahrain followed Lotus as

Romain Grosjean finishes third. Di Resta matches is best ever finish in

Formula One with fourth. And Lewis Hamilton, where is he going to be? I

think he is going to come through, yes, in fifth position, and Webber

has lost several places. Hamilton finishes in fifth, Perez is six,

Webber is seventh. Alonso finishes eighth after a wonderful dice.

Rosberg finishes in ninth, Button... Vergne. Great reception for all of

these drivers after that afternoon's work in Bahrain. The

temperature is beginning to drop towards the end of the day. Look at

that. For the second year in succession, he takes victory. Kimi

Raikkonen in second place. Romain Grosjean started in 11th, yet he

has gone through to finish in third. That is where Kimi Raikkonen

started last year to take second. And Romain Grosjean, after a tough

start to the year, you can sense the relief in achieving this could

result. -- good result. No champagne in Bahrain, of course.

Waard, it is called, the mixture of fruit juice and rosewater, that is

sprayed around in this part of the world. Everybody getting a swig.

Sebastien, huge congratulations today. We did not see very much of

you on the track because you seemed to be in a class of your own. The

first few laps seemed to be sticky for you. The shore. It was

important to get into the lead. -- for sure. The first couple of laps,

and you don't know really how fast you can be. Everybody is in the

same kind of situation. I lost a position to Fernando but I managed

to save some KERS and get it back. Then I got ahead of Nico Rosberg. I

think after that we had the possibility to look after our tyres.

At the start, I thought I could have a go, but Fernando took it. It

looked like he would go straight, but he managed to stop the car.

Then I had been a good exit. I did not need the KERS here. Going in to

turn four, I was able to align myself up on the entrance, get a

good exit. Then I gained on him and got a little bit of KERS and

managed to pass him. It was a bit tight in to turn six, but I managed

to pass him. On board you don't have the audio, but talk us through

the launch from a line. The engine was roaring, but the start was good.

As soon as you put KERS into play, the cars are more or less the same.

I got lined up, but then Fernando was there. I had a good exit out of

two and three. Later in the race, we saw your baffling with Nico

Rosberg, in to turn four, your favourite place. -- battling with

Nico Rosberg. Yes, it worked out pretty well for people this weekend.

Is that the old racing instinct coming out of your team principle?

It is not very many years ago that you were racing and you have

advised this triple World Champion how to do it. It is part of the job,

really! He does listen to me occasionally. I sometimes have good

ideas! Two fantastic passing moves and very well executed and you have

to be brave into the next turn as well. 28th victory. Just as sweet

as all the others? Yes, surely it was a strong race. We did not

expect it to be, to be honest. The strategy worked fine. It was the

right thing to keep the hard tyres because they turned out to be

better for us. The pace, once I was in clear air, was phenomenal. I was

pushing hard to build up the gap. If there was no safety car, I knew

I could take it easy at the end, and that was the case. Very pleased

and the tyres seemed to hold up as we expected. Congratulations today.

Let's hear from mark. It was a shame to concede those places at

the end. Were their problems with the car? No rubber left. I think

that was the only thing. We were driving around with no tyres

laughed. -- left. It is as quick as you can go, while holding position,

as low as possible. I got some damage from Nico Rosberg. We had

some contact. That was the day at the races. A lot of overtaking out

their today. Yes, yes. But it is I am at the low to celebrations at

the moment and I am delighted to have Eric with me. -- Lotus

celebrations. And Romain Grosjean as well. You have brake problems at

the beginning. Then you have to overtake so many cars to make the

strategy work. That was the point of the strategy. We thought it

would be later in the race, but we had to go earlier because of the

debris blocking our air flow. So we did it. Why engineers were telling

me the base was good. -- my engineers. I was fighting with the

Ferrari and the McLaren. I knew I was where we wanted, but I had to

make the second one last longer. There was a good pit stop, a good

strategy, and we made the third stint shorter for the end. We did

it and that was great. It is always good to have two people on the

podium. Lots of battles on track. You have to pass Sergio Perez. I

imagine people do that with a sigh of relief. Yes. It was tough, but I

think the real moment was with Felipe Massa in turn six when he

turned into me. We touched, I thought, but in the end we did not.

Paul Di Resta was easier. My car was performing well at the end.

There so good to be back here with all the guys working really hard.

That is what is most enjoyable. Great for Lotus to be second in the

Constructors' Championship. Yes. It is great to have this start to the

season, obviously. Lovely to have both cars on the podium. Am very

happy for Romain, because we fix the issues on the car. He is back

on the podium, back where he is, so is starting this season finally and

he deserves it. It looked like you were enjoying it out their today,

gentleman. Thank you very much. Congratulations, Sergio. Your best

result for McLaren. You must be pleased. First of all, I am pleased

to finish the race. It was such a difficult race, managing the tyres

and fighting all the time. Not easy at all. Especially the last Stent.

-- stint. I am happy and very pleased with the team. I think it

is a good lesson for the other teams as well to see how hard we

can fight. We can fight a bit too much. I am happy with the result in

very difficult conditions today. Your team told you to get your

elbows out in racing and you certainly did. Talk us through this

contact. Presumably you were surprised by Jenson Button's speed

at the apex. Yes, I was surprised. He was very slow. I thought he was

struggling with the traction of his car. Unfortunately I touched and I

lost my end plate. And this is in to turn four, driving with a broken

front wing, but it did not seem to affect your performance. It was

very hard fighting with Fernando. And struggling with the tyre. Every

time it really mattered, the position. But I am very happy. I

have to say thank you to the team because they always support may

even prove very difficult moments. Is it enjoyable when you are

fighting like that on track or can you only enjoy it retrospectively?

It is enjoyable at some points because you are thinking so much

about the tyres. It is not pure racing, like when you can fight. It

is not so enjoyable, but I have to say I really enjoy it, too! Thank

you. A huge amount of effort, finishing

why you started, but enjoyable nonetheless? -- where you started.

Yes. I could of look after my tyres. I was fighting with Romain Grosjean

and everybody pitted and I came up behind him. A lot of clean racing,

which is good, apart from my team mate. He did a good job today say

congratulations for the whole team. 300 kilometres per hour is not

normally a good idea. You came on the radio telling him to calm down,

and Martin told him to fight harder, but probably not with you. I don't

know. It is good for the team. Paul, you are happy yesterday. It

was agonising to watch. We thought you would get the podium but the

tyres did not hold out. I don't know if it was our tyres.

Unfortunately with Romain Grosjean not qualifying into three, then we

would have used that strategy if we had had the tyres. We were always

going to be vulnerable at the end but they have got a car that has
