The Brazilian Grand Prix Formula 1

bit sismt the last time you'll do -- a little bit. It is the last time

you'll do this as an F 1 driver. It is not a sad moment - it is a proud

moment. It is just emotions. You have to accept that you've got to be

able to let go. Good luck! Going to miss you!

The messages I've had. It has been completely overwhelming. I cannot

believe the amount of people who have enjoyed me race. Welcome to the

final day of Interlagos. See how we go. Is it possible to win? Of

course! You don't want to test that - oh, really he's lost it, and he's

not good enough... Over one lap, I think that probably

I lost a little bit of speed. That is going to happen. I am not as fast

as I was when I was 25. I think I raced hard and fair.

Generally didn't like to give up my positions easy.

Pretty consistent in terms of no real weaknesses or strengths - just

generally pretty solid as a top-flight Formula One driver. Yeah,

I'm very proud. I think I have been dealt a good hand. A lot of races,

some big highlights, obviously. I remember where I came from. I never

envisaged I would have the career I had.

Yes, it is Mark's last day. We must say many thanks to him for allowing

us to be part of his final journey to work. Welcome to Brazil. It is

the final countdown - the last race of the year. Eddie and David is

here. He has made his mark, hasn't he? He has. He is the darling of

this crowd. He is care-free. The fact he gave us such access to

himself, not just today, but for his career. He has won great races. I

loved what he did at Monaco. He has won at Silverstone. We will all miss

him. He said it is knowing when to leave. You have been there - you

must know how he is feeling today? I felt more emotional watching his

final race than I was for my own final race. I was so focussed on the

events of the set-up of your car and working as a team. He's had a great

career. He's been a professional. He understood how to get the best out

of the team and himself. He understood the media and marketing

were, although a noise at times, were an important part of the

business of Formula One. He has given great access and spoken

frankly. He will be sadly iss manied by the paddock. -- missed by the

paddocks. The highs and lows of his career coming up for you later on.

You guys have had some great moments here at this wonderful track,

Interlagos. You had a great win in 2001, David. It is a wonderful

track. The drivers are challenged. Anticlockwise. You can sea changing

conditions there. It was a great feeling to do it here in Brazil.

Especially when you have the likes of Michael Schumacher, who was good

in wet conditions and performed at the peak of my abilities at that

time. It has seen a lot of incidents as well. This was Mark Webber

crashing out. We will see Fernando Alonso, I believe, caught the

back-end of that accident in the Renault and incredibly lucky as he

hit the barrier there. This was a big day for you? I didn't mind all

the crashing, we were h on flames here. We went on to win the race.

They gave it initially to McLaren. We rectified that and we got the

win. It was great there. It is a cool place to win a Grand Prix. It

has a lot of passion. 2008 - it may not have been the best race. Let's

relive the agony. You won't have to watch it for long! For anyone

thinking get a cup of tea, don't. It would only be two corners before it

ended. A wet race here. We see a lot of wet weather this time of year in

Brazil. I got clipped by Rosberg, spunning around and collected --

spun around and collected by his team-mate. DC - we didn't see that

clipping moment. This is from inside my helmet. Watch this! That is the

clipping... Is that a clipping? And the impact follows it. I know you

are trying to figure out I am making excuses. He is waving goodbye to the

crowd and goodbye to the Formula One career. The fans here in Brazil

absolutely love their motor sport. Fans are having a great time. Here

is a picture you don't see too often - all of the drivers - that is the

class of 2013. Formula One having their picture taken, just a few

moments ago. And sitting really in the middle of that shot, we can see

Felipe Massa and of course it is his last race for Ferrari.

So, lots of reasons to watch the race today. All the drivers there

and going into the standings it looks a little bit like this.

Sebastian Vettel is of course the world champion and Fernando Alonso

is second. No Kimi here ux remember. He is re

recovering from a successful back operation. Mercedes and Ferrari have

the gloves off for second. Lotus are hanging in there too. Further down

the table, Marussia and Caterham are at loggerheads for tenth position.

Well, where are we? Here we are! Yesterday's qualifying proved to be

a torrid affair as Mother Nature proved she could be fairly lethal.

Qualifying got under way in heavy drizzle. By the end, it turned into

a downpour. The usual suspects went out in queue one.

As the rain fell harder, drivers who has not set a good time early on

were caught out as the session finished under a yellow flag. Sergio

Perez's McLaren touched the slippery line. He qualified 14th. Higher than

Jenson Button, who could only manage 15th. 47 minutes after the cars were

on track, the action resumed for the top-ten shootout. The Ferrari of

Fernando Alonso seemed to enjoy the tricky conditions and he equalled

his best qualifying position with third. Mercedes had been quick all

weekend. Hamilton was fastest on the intermediates. Nico Rosberg was

second. Six-tenths from pole. That left it to Sebastian Vettel to claim

his ninth pole position of the season. Come rain, or shine, he is

once again the man to beat. So Vettel is the man with the clear

view, taking his 4th position. Rosberg is over his shoulder. Alonso

will look for a trademark break away. Hamilton is fifth. Romain

Grosjean has to settle for sixth. Jean-Eric Vergne is eighth. Then

comes Massa. Hulkenberg rounds out the top ten.

Perez takes a five-place penalty, after a gearbox change. Everyone

moves up one place. Button is 13th. Pic is the fastest of the young

teams. Perez emerges in 19th. Max Chilton, the only driver to finish

every race this season rounds out the grid. Well it was a moment

mental affair yesterday. As you -- monumental affair yesterday. You

never know about the rain here. The experts are saying lap 22. I don't

know how they can be so precise. There are some weather patterns

around. They will start on their slick tyres. Let's wander down the

pit line. There's been no dry running. While going to the grid

they will put in as many laps as they can to get that balance right.

It is a short lap. They have the opportunity to do that. They will be

able to bang on both sets of the tyres if they want about get a feel.

They will be able to tell the balance difference. When they make

the pit stop they need to know what off-set to p put on the front wing.

It is about this day in history - how the car balance changes.

Qualifying was vasating. We had Vergne up there. Alonso - why have

you stopped? He does that randomly. I thought you were going to ask me

something. Should people be afraid of that - he's looking good? I think

Jean-Eric Vergne is a real class act. He's been on my radar screen

for some time. It was touch and go between him and Ricciardo. He didn't

get the nod there. I rate him hugely. He is a fabulous talent. He

is a cool guy, the way he goes about his business. Anything can happen.

We make the point, if it does rain halfway through this race, that is

when the excitement will happen and we will get the fireworks. He knew I

would disagree with him. I think Daniel Ricciardo has absolutely been

on top of Vergne on qualifying. I don't think he was close at all. He

is a great guy. I don't think it was a close thing at all. It is

Ricciardo that has gone to Red Bull racing. As Mercedes go past us with

the tires we can catch up with Nico Rosberg now.

The last day of school and you are starting in a good place today. I

know you would have loved to have got Sebastian Vettel and have the

nice clear view at the start. It would have been fantastic. I hoped

for it after Friday. He was too quick. It was not doable. From that

point of view, yes, I was pleased with second. It is a great place to

start today. If it stays dry, then it will be near impossible to beat

him. If the conditions are mixed, then maybe I can annoy them. How

much can you battle out there today. For sure, it is something that we

will consider all the time. Other than that, it is full speed ahead,

flat-out, going for the win. I hope you get it. Thanks. I have come back

to Red Bull. We are waiting for Mark to come into the garage. We think he

could have somewhat of a welcome. Stay with us for that. Nico talking

there from the front-row. He's been looking fantastic. He looked

terrific in the wet on Friday. Presumably he's hoping it will rain

a little bit, David. He was dominate on Friday. Everyone had the

opportunity to go out there and find out how the car balance was. He

seemed on top of it. He has looked the stronger of the Mercedes

drivers. We will see some rain this afternoon. Whether it will be enough

to make the difference remains to be seen. He probably has a reasonable

chance. Somebody has to take the fight, we hope we will have an

exciteling race, the last couple haven't been where we would like

them to be. Nevertheless Rosberg looks like the man. Never

underestimate Alonso. He makes unbelievable start, here, you know,

if you were to talk about the second home you would have to say it was

here in Brasil. I think he could be the one to lead on the first lap. It

could be interesting. It is the last race with the V 8s. This is the end

of a new era, it is V6 turbo, so the last time we will see these engines.

Interesting time. Mustn't forget Ross Brawn. I am talking about

people not just drivers like David and stuff, we have to make sure that

we applaud people like Mark, because that is very important, but we

should say thank to you to Ross for the great results he's has brought

for Britain, because when he went to Ferrari he mate sure most parts were

made in Britain. We hope to see him back in this paddock. Mark is going

to be a few more minutes so let us hear about Fernando Alonso. He was

fighting for the Championship last year, against Sebastian Vettel, but

had to settle for second, again. This has not been a vintage year for

Ferrari. Fernando Alonso wins for Ferrari.

You have had a few weeks since the Championship was definitely won by

Sebastian does it hurt any less? The point you realise you will not fight

for the Championship was July or August. Vettel wins in Belgium, he

continues to build the advantage. The performance is so s a big

difference, so we were too much focussed on the race by race, that

we didn't have time to think that this Championship was in our hands,

sos, we were slipping away, and now we need to work harder for next

year. What was the truth in the summer? Did you or anyone from your

team go and speak to any of teams in the paddock about you moving on

elsewhere? No, nothing at all. It was only rumours, I think this year

has been more rumours than any other year, so this has been a strange

season, but from my side, there were no talks with anyone. Why stay at

Ferrari, why not move on and take that chance? Because first of all I

have contract, which I need to respect, and I am happy to respect

second brauz I trust that Ferrari can do a good job, for next year,

especially, there are big changes in the rules. I think no-one in the

paddock can point one team, saying that that team will dominate next

year, so it is a completely random choice. I think I am in the best

team to win next year, and we will try to do so. How much young

offender looking forward to pressing the reset Button as you head into

2014. How much does Ferrari look forward to that? We are counting the

days, to be honest, we want to be Sunday night in Brazil. Packing

everything. Come back, 2014 we have new engine, we have new designers

coming, and we need to deliver and it is time to deliver, and next year

everyone in the factory feels it is time to do it. A new team-mate. Tell

us your thoughts on that, does it change your approach to next season?

Not really, for meme at the moment. We will see after two or three races

next year, if you know, I am consistently behind Kimi and I can

change my driving style, I can take things from him, to be as good as

him, or whatever, that only time will tell. But I think it is going

to be fine. When you ask people who know about motor sport, who know

about Formula One you are the racing drivers racer. Can he go round the

outside? Almost on the grass. He is strieing it. He has done it. That

was incredible. Do do you rate yourself? It is great to have that

people respect your job, and despite the championship, there are

sometimes that, you know, you need to win, and when you are not wink,

you your -- winning, your confidence is getting lower and you try to

motivate yourself. I still believe I have many years in front of me, to,

to recover some of the Championships that I could have won, probably.

Inside, I still think that when I retire, I will have more than two. I

don't know how many but I will have more than two. When you look at

drivers who you have looked up to and admired, Ayrton Senna, post, vet

has won his four consecutive titles at the same time before Alain Prost

won his first Grand Prix. The you put him into the same category as

Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Time will tell us when he will have a car

like the others, if he wins, he will be one of the legends in Formula

One. When one day he has a car like the other, and he's fourth, fifth,

seventh, the four titles will be bad news for him, because people will

take this four titles, in a worse manner than what they are doing now,

so there are interesting times for Sebastian coming.

Ooh. Strong words. I think there are people out there that will agree

with Fernando. Discuss, what do you think about that sentence? Have to

think about that again, because there is certain amount of

bitterness there, there is certainly... Well, clearly, you know

why Alonso is upset. First thing this race last year, he thought he

could have been third champion, and the youngest triple champion. It

didn't happen, Vettel got it. But there is a huge rumour going on in

Italy and it is gathering momentum and that is Alonso had an option and

still has, sorry, Vettel had an option to go to Ferrari for 2014 and

Alonso had it stopped. Whether it is true or not I don't know. It has

been round Italy and it is not brand-new, if that is the case, and

that Vettel will wind up in Ferrari, you can see why this animosity is

going on. What are your thoughts? ? Terms of his words there, they are

words of experience, he knows he won a couple of World Champions early in

his career, and he knows how difficult it has been since then, he

took his dream to Ferrari, he wanted to realise being a Ferrari World

Champion because of the credit, and great emotion that would bring, and

he has come up short. He has been very close, as I have said last year

as well, the World Championship could have gone sitar way, he has

finished second again and probably has the fourth best car. Nobody

doubts he's is a World Champion without actually having the Crown in

his hands, so I don't see it as being bitter. He is saying I am a

bit older, it is difficult when things aren't working well. Let us

judge Sebastian when he has had two or three years of not having the

level of success he thinks he deserves. Well I think you think

differently about that, but Mark is just in the garage now, so let us

have a look at the pictures. Here he come, this is Mark Webber, from the

paddock. Coming into the garage for his last ever Formula One race. What

a fantastic career it has been from 2002 and those Minardi days. Let us

listen for a moment. So great scene, waltzing Matilda and

there he stands. He has contributed to great deal, he has been part of

the foundation of the team since the Jaguar days and all these these

victories so he has every reason to be smiling. He certainly has, he

looks emotional there, don't you think? So he should be, you know, to

come, to ply your trade, to get to the top of the trade you are in and

to be admired and loved by the people, going back, to a team like

this, as David says, he has made, and he was the inspiration with DC,

for bringing this team to where it is today, and that is why I think he

had so many admirers throughout the world. Did an incressable --

incredible job and fans round the world. I don't think that we will be

the only people that miss him. There has been lots of defining

moments in his career for sure. The odds were just hideously against me.

As it is for most young guys trying to get through to that level, if you

haven't got the big backers behind you, the things we weren't in that

position to have that. So very proud, mate, to, you know, make the

most of those defining moments. Victory for Mark Webber, his first

in Formula One. ON RADIO: Yeah. Yeah.

It was important I won the first race fair and square for myself,

that was the case, absolutely. I had actually had a drop through penalty

I in the race and come back through and won. Didn't happen often. Very

rare but I did ring up and ask for Sebastian in traffic, and he wasn't.

The leaf coming round the last corner, thinking I that was pretty

special. A long time between Australians winning the Grand Prix.

There has only been three of us. I think it was 25 years. Hearing the

National Anthem. It has always been down me since then. To manage to get

the win was great. If you were to maim one season where

you have done the best job It is biassed to my best season, I was

operating at that level for quite, a long period of time. Yeah, it is

amazing, how you lift obviously when you probably need to, obviously

there was a lot of wins in there, a lot of, you know, superconsistent

season, the practice session, all the qualifying session, that was a

pretty solid year. November 2008 was a wake up call for

Mark Webber, how things can change quickly. Obviously I was fit, I was

probably the fittest I have been in my life. I went from that day, to

you know, three or four days after, and laying there in bed going "Are I

will be on crutches for a while and I will get going. You put your leg

out for the first time and you are like, you have a bit on here, this

is different. How did it affect your relationship

with the team? Dietrich rang me three days after it happened. He was

"What happened? We will stand by you." That was a massive loyalty

factor. I will never forget that phone call, because it is all well

and good, people sticking by you when you are doing well, I hadn't

won a race to that point, and the team hadn't done much until then, so

he could have easily gone with someone else, what the hell, how is

Mark going to be, there was lots of questions in my own mind, how was I

going to be? Were you wear, sat next to Seb that were up against someone

who was clearly very very good? Not really initially. I mean for his

experience at the time, obviously he was pretty handy but it was nothing

like, OK, evident in the first two season, there wasn't a huge amount

between us, it wasn't like this bloke's unbeatable.

Here they come together. Webber and Vettel came together. What was going

on there? The start of this year took a bit of a turn again, just for

the worst. ON RADIO: This is silly, Seb. Come

on. Malaysia wasn't everything, but it

was just lots of scenarios between both of us, so it has made it quite

difficult. Other relationships in the team have been stressed. Were

you surprised with the way he dealt with Malaysia? What he did in

Malaysia? No. Two weeks later yes. Obviously I think what he, the

motions at the time were correct. Think he felt pretty poor after the

race. Are you happy you have won? No, I did a mistake, if I could undo

it I would, but I can't. . Then he, the discussion a few weeks later was

surprising. Had I understood the message I would have thought about

it and probably would have done the same thing because Mark doesn't

deserve that. Melbourne, probably miss driving in

Melbourne. It will be hard to watch that race next year. Qualifying

still is nice for the cars. Beautiful circuits where you get to

challenge on. Some of the challenging circuits is very very

nice to drive down the pit lane in Q3, car minimum weight, fresh tyres.

That might last a whole lap. Yes, so, that is enjoyable.

That is what we are trying to do, so in terms thats that that, the

missing of it, you know it is time to stop, you can't accept, you still

want to do it but you are on that slippery slope, what is the point

continuing at that level? You can't do that.

Shots now of Mark leaving the Red Bull garage for the final time for

his last race in Formula One. I think there's probably not a dry eye

in the house after that piece. A wonderful interview. Mark speaks so

frankly. It was great listening to Mark. There have been highs and

lows. Nine wins - he's been a fantastic part of your team, hasn't

he? He's had a tremendous career. It has been great to see him achieve

the success he deserved and to win those nine Grand Prixes so far. The

big part in our team, in winning the four construckor's World

Championships as well. I need to move in for safety!

It has been massive for him. I the support from his father, Allen, he

has fought to get here. He has enjoyed a great career. He has

deserved it. Hopefully he can sign off on a high. Has it been tangible

- the emotion - this morning? It has a different feel. Hopefully he'll be

there when the chequered flag comes down. Hopefully he will see that and

get a great result. Then I think it will sink in more for him. I don't

think he comprehends this being his final Grand Prix at the moment. It

must be difficult to take it all in. Was it only afterwards you could

look back and say, I had a great career. Un Undoubtedly. I had a

great view to watch my final Grand Prix. I was not in it. I was sitting

here, watching the guys racing. It was different from me. I was

retiring from active motor sport. My mind was concluding that part of my

career. Mark is going to be part of the racing fraternity. This is the

end of one era, but the next chapter begins.

You know Mark very well. You have known him for a long time. You had a

hand this his career, didn't you? The only connection is, in 1999,

when Mark lost his driver, he didn't continue in the sports cars, he used

to hang out at a gym. I said, you better nip over the road. He went

over and went to drive. I am not claiming that one, I promise. Yes, a

little, small hand in it. It all adds into the pa pot of the career.

-- into the pot of the career. Do you feel he has changed over the

years? He has changed, but his funt mental values haven't. He is a tough

competitor. He is -- the fundamental values haven't. He is a tough

competitor. He is one of the old school n many respects. No dry

running. The engineers have limited experience in how to set the car up

for change of conditions. What has been the briefing with your

engineers ahead of the race? It is unknown. The circuit will be like it

should be on Friday morning. It will be very green. There'll be no rubber

down. How these slick tires react to that will -- tyres react to that

will be tricky. Different cars obviously behave in different ways.

So, we have to have plans A, B and C. At the moment, we don't know

which will be the right one. Plan D - who will be your likely winner

here? The Lotus on a green track will be quick. Mercedes have been

quick all weekend. Fernando is pumped up for this as well. Do you

know what I think Fernando could be tough today. It is extremely loud

here. We can hear pit stops behind us - everybody preparing. Good luck,

We have some great shots here. Great respect for a terrific driver,

David. Yes, he has been a great loyal servant. They have repaid

that, after his accident in Budapest. The Brazilians wear their

hearts on their sleeves. I suspect he will be feeling more emotion

emotional, like Mark will at this moment. Hopefully we catch up with

him on the grid later. See what you can get for us. We will take a

closer look at this track. This was taken through by DC. Interlagos, 2.6

mile lap. Second shortest only to Monte Carlo. We join Sebastian

Vettel. You can see the green markings. Comes across the line.

Difficult positions into term one. The apex is quite some way around

the braking zone. He is already confident to use the white lines.

Normally that is a no-go area in damp conditions. Hesitant to full

power, as he comes through three. He uses a tiny amount of this as he

runs down the back straight. Coming up to turn four - big

commitment on turning. Watch him have a major catch through turn

five. That's the high speed oversteer at

235km per hour. He manages to do what Perez didn't. Seven - and his

confidence running as he runs on to the white lain, before dropping into

turn eight. A wide apex. He drops into nine. He uses all the grip

available on the outside of the circuit. Straightens the car for

best acceleration. Now getting unsighted by a Ferrari ahead. That

is Felipe Massa, in his last Grand Prix for the Ferrari team. Gets well

out of the way. Vettel drops down through ten and 11. Big confidence,

but look, little lock-up on the front right into turn 12. We can

tell this car is set up for dry-running. He using this before

the kink at 14 and uses it at 15. Look at the RPM, just over 16,000.

He takes his ninth pole position of the year. Could anyone stop him

taking a record-breaking nine straight victories?

His ninth pole of the year. The quite incredible Sebastian Vettel

really pulled it out of the can yesterday. It was... It is

extraordinarinarily loud in this pit lane. I hope you can hear me at

home! Everyone preparing for the final race of the 2013 season. A lot

of the drivers coming through, trying to do as many laps as they

can. This is the first time all weekend there's been any dry track

at all. This is a difficult time for the teams, isn't it? The teams will

be trying to amass as much information as they can. The reality

is the car will have been set up as it left the simulator. When it left

the simulator, this is what their best shot was. That is often the

case they need to make major adjustments. They won't have the

time. They did haven't the opportunity with the wet weather.

Anything could happen here. We may be lucky. They might come down with

a very exciting race. We only have to look back to last year, don't we,

really! It was the battle between Vettel and Alonso for the

championship. Vettel, starting at the front. Off they go - in these

dry conditions. It is all looking good Wow, look at this! Anything can

happen here. It did for Sebastian Vettel, when we saw these

extraordinary pictures and images of him, just facing the wrong way. This

was a huge race for him. him, just facing the wrong way. This

rules and regulations. The fact is Alonso should not have let Vettel

back into the fold. He should have nailed this race. It should have

been his championship last year. Let's go back for a moment. We went

to the pictures of Mark Webber coming in. We didn't quite finish

our chat. What do you think he should do - do you think he should

leave Ferrari? If this is true, what we are hearing, that there was an

option or a letter, intent, or whatever it was for Vettel to go to

Ferrari, of course that would have... And we don't know whether it

was true, then we could understand why during Monza time that the

chairman of Ferrari had to come and make some calming down motions

between the whole of the team and physically back Alonso. That was

part of the requirement that he had to do. Time will tell. We will see.

We are not always the best people to know what happened. There is an

element of bitter bitterness. We want to see how that will be played

out. Torrid times at Ferrari this year. A lot of people speaking out I

has been a difficult year for -- out. It has been a difficult year

for them. Lotus, waiting for money to come in. We are not further down

the line about knowing whether it will happen or not. It ticks a

number of boxes. They do need funding. There's a lot of talk in

the paddock about the distribution of funds. I don't think this is the

area to talk about it. They want more, fair play about what is

required. Lotus are a winning team. Theyen want to win the first -- they

want to win the first race of the season. We are told that the

financial implications here are so severe that this could be a fact and

hopefully that will not be the case. We will go to those pictures of

Romain Grosjean and that love lovely lady waving to DC, who is on the

grid. You can see Sebastian Vettel there

talking to his engineer. One thing we need to point out is that the

start here is unlike any other, I think.

We've got elevation change, 300-metre run to the first corner.

The apex is around past that second pier really board. Up to the --

Pireli board. Very unsighted ford what is ahead.

As you get further down the grirkd into the middle, it -- grid, into

the middle, it levels out. As you get to the guys at the back, they

have to put their foot on the brake because they are running down. The

best place in terms of launching off the grid will be at the back. That

will not be the best place if you are leading into the first corner.

It will be difficult to get a word with too many of them. I will see if

Sebastian comes out of talks with the engineers. They've had no dry

running this weekend. They have set brand new sets of tyres available. I

didn't get the chance to be at the ends of the pit lane. I will not be

surprised if they have run each of those tyres on the way to the grid

to check balance. The big difference, of course, sitting here

on the grid with the new tyres is they will have of 140 kilos-plus of

fuel on board. It is not about getting the car set up for the final

lap I is about finding one that will -- lap. It finding one that will

last. Of on a green track, you are more

susceptible to tearing the tyres as it rolls across the track. Seb, are

you OK for one line? You are looking very serious and focussed there. A

different approach to this Grand Prix. You've had no dry-running at

all. What are you talking with your engineer about? It is a bit

different. It is dry at the moment. We haven't had any practise in dry

session. So, it's difficult to get everything right. I think it is the

same for everyone though. That is what we've been talking about. We

believe you are the only team to try both compounds going to the grid.

Are you surprised the others have not done that? I don't know what

they did. I think it made sense to have a read on how the car feels on

the speed of the car, the power, many factors but I think so far it

quick through wet qualifying. I believe he might be round somewhere.

He is looking at some last minute data. Now if you wonder what data

looks like. If you take a sneak at this. Basically, what date is is a

bunch of squiggly lines, it looks like you have let your five-year-old

loose with Cray I don't knows, but all that information means a great

deal a driver. He is probably looking at a driver comparison. It

is in fact fact, a comparison with his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo. It

is telling him how the car is. If I can get a quick line. You are

looking at the data. Presume reference relative do your

team-mate. Happy with the balance? In is the first dry-running? And to

last year as well. Difficult to say, the first time we

are going to drive on the dry conditions, we have no idea how the

car will perform. We are looking at data to adjust the front flap. That

is all we can do. You have a good feel in the changing condition, you

probably felt you should have been in front of your team-mate because

you were quicker. What makes you feel more comfortable with the

Pirelli tyres and the damp conditions? I don't know. To be

honest, with you, I would like some rain in the middle of the race. It

Felipe Massa. A big day for you, not only in front

of your home fan, but your last day for Ferrari, how are the emotions?

It a very special day, I hope question have a great race. It is a

very emotional day for me, and for the team, for my fan, everybody. I

hope it goes well. Thank you. Well, that is the scene on the grid,

as we talk right now, just a few minutes to go and there are records

to be broken today. Eddie, for Sebastian Vettel. He could equal

shuem's 13 wins in one season from 2004. These records mean such a lot

to him. Schumacher. If he gets nine, that is nine races in a row which is

extraordinary. The thing he is o so talented. When he won a pole

position in Monza and won with the Toro Rosso team, I think that was

the sure sign there was something special to be unfolded here. And he

has kept to his word. He has unfolded greatness, all the way

through, I know there is talk about he has had the best car. Of course

he has, the best drivers usually wind up in the best cars. It

happens, and this is no exception, I think he is a real true champion,

and he loves all of those historical things that make it more possible to

have history related to it. So I think the thing he likes is that you

know, the wins in a year, nine would be amazing. One of the drivers

looking for a permanent ride is Heikki Kovalainen. He is seek

speaking to Leigh. How does it feel to be back here at Interlagos? It is

great. It is a great atmosphere, but I wouldn't mind racing everywhere to

be honest. It is good to be back. What do you think you can do today?

How much is the focus on getting the Constructors Championship and going

the in the right direction for Lotus? Everything is targeted at

that. We are trying to beat the Ferraris and trying to score points.

I don't know how it will go. Hopefully we will go right this

So not long to go, then, before the final race of the year. This is the

final race, for Mark Webber, for Red Bull, the last time we will see

Felipe Massa of course in a Ferrari. Leigh McKenzie and Tom are in the

pit lane. So, the final race of the year, well, it has been a season of

intrigue and there has been a few records smashed to pieces.

It is a sport of high numbers. High speeds in the hundreds ofmph.

-- miles per hour. Revolutions per minute, salaries by the million,

paid or unpaid. In the sport of high numbers,

temperatures soar too. And on the scorched land at day's end, the

tropical storm falls. Mercury rising. And in its red zone, rubber

melts. In the furnace, testimoniers flare,

even among team-mates. -- terms. In the delirium of heat. A

reconnection made. Calling in on old friends. Drop in the you are passing

buy. -- by.

High numbers, high temperatures. But this was the season of the

smallest unit. The slimmest of single digits, and

the coolest head. The number is in the title.

In Formula One, the number one is the one.

Vettel. Sebastian. Sebastian Vettel the one in the multi-21. The best

for the fourth year in succession. The winner of eight straight races.

The straight eight before the V6 of next season.

Sebastian Vettel, world beater. Record breaking.

Number one. In Formula One. A record breaking season comes to an

end at Interlagos the track between two lakes or as we saw in

qualifying, the track that can become a lake. The final round of

the 2013 World Championship comes to an end in Sao Paulo where 40 years

ago in 1973 the first World Championship Brazilian Grand Prix

was held on the original circuit and won by Formula One legend Emerson

Fittipaldi. Some of the conners he raced on are used today. Notably in

the latter part of the second sector, and indeed the final sector

of the lap. But this current layout has been used since 1990 when Alain

Prost's Ferrari beat the McLarens of Senna. Two DRS zones provide

overtaking abilities. Teams switched from slick tyres to

intermediates and back again. Racing here always seems to produce drama

and with Vettel's chance of making it nine wins in a row, Mark Webber's

opportunity to win his final Grand Prix or perhaps Fernando Alonso's

shot at winning for the first time in Brazil, there is plenty to look

forward to. No rain at the moment. We do have predictions there could

be rain in the race. About 60% chance of rain falling at some

point, but we have to wait and see. The teams will have to react as

quickly as possible, if that happens. The Felipe Massa then,

starting his last Grand Prix as a Ferrari driver, but we will see him

back on the grid, as opposed to Mark Webber who starts his very last

Formula One Grand Prix. Our thoughts are with him and his family as they

go into this final race, a very special time for Mark Webber. He

start tons second row of the grid. He has Fernando Alonso, his good

friend alongside him on the grid, so let us see how all 22 cars do line

up. It is Sebastian Vettel on his ninth pole of the season. Rosberg

his seventh front row start. Can he do anything for Mercedes. Alonso

starting third. Mark Webber starts in a strong fourth place. Lewis

Hamilton starts in fifth, where he qualified in the USA and Grosjean

starts in sixth. Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne the two Toro

Rosso team-mates are next to each other, Felipe Massa starts in ninth

place with Nico Hulkenberg who has gone well in Brazil, he starts

tenth. Heikki Kovalainen just outside the point, can he get in the

points for the first time in 60 Grand Prix for him. Paul di Resta is

next. Valtteri Bottas and Jenson Button are on row seven. 15th place

for Adrian Sutil, then Pastor Maldonado 16th for William, then

Esteban Gutierrez and Charles Pic. Remember Caterham still versus

Marussia in the battle for tenth. Perez starts in 19 and it is the two

Marussias of Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton. If Marussia are to be

beaten to that tenth place, Caterham need to get a 13th place finish here

today. That does really depend on a bit of luck going their way. And a

lot of non-finishes. Therest Fernando Alonso. Can he finish his

season in style, he starts in third place, we know how fast he can be

off the line. Think Ferrari probably need some rain this afternoon, to

actually take the battle all the way through the race. Nico Rosberg

starting in second place, and there is our pole man, Sebastian Vettel,

Tom, how could you update us, what has been happen something I am

poised for a very busy rates down here in the pit lane, but it has

already been busy, because I was down at the end of the pit lane,

fascinating to see the teams' approach to this race given we have

had no dry-running and Red Bull were the only team to give its drives,

both drivers the opportunity to try both compounds, both Vettel and

Webber went out and did two laps on each compounds where the other team,

Ferrari, medium tyres on both cars, McLaren did Jenson Button on the

hard tyre and Perez on the medium and Mercedes only only the medium.

So different strategy, but it is going to be a fascinating to see how

this one pans out from a tyre wear and tyre degradation point of view.

We can see the Wrighington side wall there of the -- writing on the side

wall. He is starting on the softer of the compound. We expect most

teams to start on this tyre. Look for the orange write Tong side wall

to see if anyone has done anything different. That indicates the hard

tyre. Looking down the list I think everybody is starting there is one

down to the back on the orange tyre but just about everybody starting on

the medium compound. They want go with what is the fastest available

tyre. We saw Vettel rolling back slightly. It is an incline from pole

position. All the way up to the first cornerer. This is the first of

the practice procedures, to find out where the point is. They will get

information back from the data engineer who can will get time in

for how that start went and they will make a clutch adjustment.

Why would they choose to go out on the harder compound tyre? They want

to go as far as possible because the opportunity to catch the rain,

basically. You don't want to be a pit stop in rain 20 and rain at lap

24. They have the possible to go to lap 30. They have the biggest

opportunity to catch the rain and not have that extra pit stop. How

much are the team having to react all the time as to what is happening

here? It is leading to that - it will be reaction. Getting the

balance of the car - it is not easy. I would have started on the white

side of the tyre because the grip is better on the line and put the

harder tyre on sismt a two-stop rass. I would have gone medium hard

and then the medium. You have to make sure you don't have to stop to

put wets on. They are saying at 3pm there is a chance of rain sismt a

2pm local -- rain. It is a 2pm local start.

A heat heatest vizor system which is used. You can see on the side of his

helmet there, there is a cable, there is a battery, external of his

helmet - the team were confirming that is switched off. Mark Webber,

starting from fourth position. No wins this season. Can he possibly

finish off his Formula One career with a win.

We had a chat earlier to Mercedes earlier today. I wonder ifle Ross

will still be a part of Mercedes next year. Whether he's to be part

of Formula One or not, that is to be learnt. Sebastian Vettel, leading

the way, of course. Nico Rosberg - a good chance for Rosberg to score a

podium finish here today. He's had four podium finishes so far this

year. Felipe Massa, who's had a podium himself - that was in Spain.

Had both cars on the podium here last year in Brazil. Alonso missed

out on the championship, by three points thanks to Vettel's efforts to

come from the back of the field to get the result he needed. There have

been so many dramatic races here in the past. Let's see if we get

another one here today. It will be a dry-bone start - no doubt about it.

Hamilton and Grosjean, followed by Ricciardo and Vergne. Massa and

Hulkenberg, on the fifth row. Perez further back. Button, remember

starts in 15th place. A lot of work for Jenson Button to do here. The

final F 1 race of the season about to get upds wa I in Brazil.

-- get under way in Brazil. Sebastian Vettel and Nico Rosberg go

together. Fernando Alonso, sneaking up the outside. It is Hamilton who

makes a good start. Rosberg leads, Vettel into second. Alonso is in

fourth place. Massa making up some ground as well. He drops in behind

Mark Webber. A very good start by Nico Rosberg. Got that perfect

start. You saw that Sebastian Vettel had to go defensive for Fernando

Alonso. That allowed a clear run for Rosberg all the way up the inside.

It all looks clean so far. This is where we saw Vettel get spun around

at turn three earlier. Vettel, Hamilton and Alonso side by side.

Alonso trying to go around the outside of Hamilton. Mark Webber is

tucked behind in fifth place. Felipe Massa. On board with Alonso here.

Look how close the top four are at the moment as they accelerate

through this in-field section. Alonso looking to get past Hamilton.

He's almost on the grass turning in. He was surprised how Hamilton rolled

out of the brakes. It looks like Vettel is gets into position. No

duress, of course. I suspect he will not have any cares left after the

start either. Rosberg, a little vulnerable. Here comes Vettel. No

doubt about it. He's's on the charge. -- he's on the charge.

Vettel doesn't care. He blasts past Nico Rosberg. He's on the outside.

Has he got the line into the corner? Yes, he has. Alonso and Hamilton

side by side on the Senna S. He's into third position.

Fighting wheel-to-wheel. Two of the hardest races. Mark Webber has a

chance to get past Lewis Hamilton. He picks up the slip-stream.

Hamilton defends to the inside as they come to turn four. Webber is

trying to go around the outside. He cannot make it. Now he'll try and

cut back on the exit here. Hamilton runs ride. He -- wide. He gives him

enough space. Hamilton is still on the inside and I am not sure he can

do it or can he? Where is Hamilton? He's got tloo and he's taken the --

he's got through and he's taken the place - he's in fourth. Extremely

fair from Lewis Hamilton. He left them enough space and did the

sensible thing as Mark showed commitment around the outside in

seven. Felipe Massa is behind them. Grosjean, eighth. Ricciardo in

ninth. Jenson Button is in 11th, behind Bottas.

We have di Resta down in 17th as well. Not a first good lap forest di

Resta. Look who leads. It is Sebastian Vettel, beginning to open

up the advantage. 1.4 seconds over Rosberg. Alonso on the attack. Look

at this - Grosjean, with Ricciardo. Ricciardo on the outside. Grosjean

was able to defend. You have Jenson Button who has got past. Jenson

Button is in 10th. Saw Jenson lock up. You have to make sure he doesn't

end one a flat-spot. Into turn four, we can see the gap

there is less than a second. Alonso will be in position to effect a pass

as they get past the start. That is the race of the construckor's

championship as well. At the moment, Mercedes have the edge. Ferrari have

moved Massa up. He is behind Hamilton. This is one to watch as we

go through the line. For Lotus, who are trying to be a

part of that group, that Constuctorr's place. Down in 18th

place. In the young teams, by the way. Bianki is leading 19th. We are

getting set up for a threesome there. And someone has had a spin.

That is tyre smoke... It is engine smoke. Smoke pouring out of the

engine and Romain Grosjean - Lotus's day gets worse and worse. He tries

to get off-line. The yellow flags are out. Very sensibly parking at

the gap in the fence. Rosberg goes defensive.

Alonso on the outside trying to take second place. He's done it. Now, can

he chase after Sebastian Vettel? Does he have the pace in the

Ferrari? All the teams are learning. Seeing how the cars react, seeing

how the tyres react. Mark Webber closing, also on Nico Rosberg. DRS

has been reenabled. We have another yellow come up. We will keep an eye

on that for a moment. It is Grosjean pulled to the side of the track.

Hulkenberg to seventh. Button is up to ninth. Bottas is in 10th place.

Sutil, 12th. Vergne is in 13th. He lost out on the first couple of

laps. You can see for Vettel he bogs down initially. That allows Alonso

to come up to the right. Rosberg has a completely clear run into turn

one. We have seen contact through this first secretary. Everyone --

the first section. Everyone keeping this sensible. 19 race starts behind

him. Well, all the sensible pros at the front, giving space where

necessary. Let's see Alonso's start from on board.

He actually shoft-shifted from second to third. I think he was --

short-shifted from second to third. I think he was caught out. It is a

lovely sound. We will do again after the start. Just listen!

Just seemed to judder and bog down. Well, whatever the cause of that

was, it didn't sound like a lot of wheelspin. Rosberg got the perfect

start. Here is with Massa. Well, outstarts or Toro Rosso.

Sneaks up the inside of Webber. Webber has the line as they go

through four. Webber has got further in his last race than you did, DC.

He has well entered this one. Running fourth. Have a battle now,

trying to get past Rosberg and Massa - sorry, just looking at the replay.

I understand, any way. We are so starved of some on-track action of

the drive. The teams showing their appreciation for that pass. Rosberg

and the Mercedes team must have thought, yes, one for lap and then

thought, oh no! To the outside, going towards turn

four. That was fairly straightforward for

him. We are back to live racing. It is Rosberg under pressure from Mark

Webber. That is what I was expecting to see, how close they were across

the line. Alonso, pulling away from them a bit. Hamilton in fifth place

behind them. Massa, fastest of anyone in the first second. The

Ferrari is going well in these conditions. Track temperature, 25

Celsius. It is not that warm. It seem toss be suiting the Ferraris

well at this point in the race. Vettel is open ping up the race --

opening up the gap. This is tough Grand Prix racing. They have no

experience of slick tyres in 2013 around the Brazilian race track T

first point they get of seeing how the tyres open up, how they bed in,

the engineers are using their experience and best guesswork on

tyre pressures. Everybody trying to learn as we go here. Alonso through

in second. The gap opening up. Mark Webber attacking Nico Rosberg.

Around the outside he goes. Webber trying to take the third place. He's

done it, yes. They have given each other plenty of space there. There

was not a lot that Nico Rosberg could do. Next up, Nico Rosberg will

have to keep an eye on his team-mate. Lewis Hamilton, not far

behind him at all. Massa n the background too. Nico Rosberg, having

to fight pretty h hard. If the conditions stay dry, I would say

Alonso has got a very, very effective race card. There are two

main overtaking points, into turn one and into turn four. Long

straightses into both of those. -- straights into both of these. It was

17km an hour faster than Vettel. Romain Grosjean sprinting back to

the pit lane, having abandoned his car. A sad way to end his season, a

strong season. Sadly, it is not to be. Lotus will not be able to

challenge for that third or even fourth place in the Constuctor's

Championship. On board with Lewis Hamilton,

slightly different crash helmet to support the Brazilian colour scheme.

Up towards the first corner. Not close enough to challenge there. As

he ran into the dirty air coming off the back of his team-mate, lost more

than the front wheel. Graining is where the surface of the

tyre is disrupted by the track surface, particularly when there is

not much rubber down. We have not seen the cars into the grey until

this point. Graining is one of the limiting factors. I saw a message, a

reminder to enjoy it today, mate! He's in a podium position at the

moment. Grosjean not enjoying it now. Trudges, rather than sprints

his way back to the Lotus pit. This is Adrian Sutil, a moment ago. Sutil

here that was verses Gutierrez. There was Perez. A slight touch of

wheels. Get away with it this time. Showing he's not at all happy with

the movement from that McLaren. A replay of the Toro Rosso.

This is coming out of turn three. Across the DRS activation. Pops open

the flap. A lot of top speed. Button is moving up the order. He is in

eighth place now. The winner here last year. Ricciardo and Bottas

still chasing in tenth. Gutierrez, chased by Sergio Perez. Two

Mexicans, together again - this seems to have happened several times

in recent Grand Prix. Gutierrez is the top rookie at the

moment. We have an incident being investigated by the way, involving

cars six and 14 - so that is Sergio Perez himself, who we are looking at

now and Paul di Resta. It is all about forcing another car off the

track. That will be interesting to see how it turns out. Sergio Perez

down in 12th Paul di Resta is in 15th place. Hamilton gets a little

bit closer to the back of his team-mate Nico Rosberg.

So the rears We can hear that message, and struggling enough to be

under pressure from his team-mate Hamilton, and I suspect that

Hamilton will find his way past this lap. Coming out of turn 12. He is in

DRS activation. He looks a long way back at this point, but this is

going to look too far away from being able to get a pass into turn

one. I looks like Rosberg is backing Hamilton up, into Massa. And

probably hat this stage, given the need to try and get maximum results,

it would be sensible to let Hamilton go.

Taking the place. Jean-Eric Vergne is on the charge, trying to get past

Adrian Sutil. Paul di Resta in that group as well. So keep an eye on

that, di Resta and Vergne, together, but on lap ten out of 71 it is

Sebastian Vettel who leads by 7.1 seconds now. Over Fernando Alonso.

TEAM RADIO: If you have a problem with the tyres, then don't hold up

Lewis as they are coming back, That is quite a clever message, it lays

it on Nico to do the right thing, if he thinks he can keep it under

control, keep going, if you think you, well, going to continue to

struggle, you are the driver, do the right thing by the team. Talking of

tyres it is interesting to see Button's progress, he is on the

harder compound tyre, one of the few, only him and Gutierrez. Both

have made pretty good progress, so the hard tyre seems to be working

well on this green track, without much rubber down. We will keep an

eye on them. They should be able to go deeper into the race. Mark Webber

has caught Fernando Alonso. Very close between the Ferrari and the

Red Bull. Suddenly, after it looks like Fernando Alonso was going to be

able to take the chance to the remembers he is struggling. I spoke

to one of the development drivers for Ferrari, he said they need some

rain. Mark Webber not close enough to attack. Let us see, here is Lewis

Hamilton. He moves down the inside and that will satisfy him, I am

sure, because it is often been the other way round during the races

that Rosberg has kept his tyres better, into the pits has come

Jean-Eric Vergne, and a quick change round. This is quite early. Lap 11,

could be turning this into a three stop race. He is putting on to the

harder tyre. Two stops is a few seconds quicker than three in an

ideal, in which of course we don't live. They look like they are going,

as you say, for a three stop this afternoon, we will see how far our

race leaders will go. That will give a good indication of what they are

thinking. Maybe lap 16 is the window for a two stop race. Of course the

track will change and you may see longer stints in the second part of

the race. Alonso versus Webber. This is for second place, remember, as

Sebastian Vettel is continuing to open his advantage, it is up to 9.1

seconds and Webber was not close enough. Watching the graphics to

show where they are using their battery power. Onboard with Mark

Webber. He has DRS and that means that less drag, is he using his

battery KERS power? Not at the moment. He will serve that to use it

out of turn 12. So that will give him a good boost as they come up to

hill into the DRS zone across the start-finish line. We saw exactly

that from Vettel in qualifying. A large part was he couldn't get full

power in the damp conditions, but both Mark and Alonso looking like

Alonso strategicically using his KERS for defence and Mark for

attack. They have both done the same number of Grand Prix. 214 coming

into this and no further action on the incident involving Perez and di

Resta from earlier on, so no change to those position, nobody has a

drive-through penalty. Top Tennessees Vettel leading from these

two, Alonso and Webber. Might get a decent run here. Hamilton in fourth

place, Massa, Hulkenberg, and Bottas and here comes Webber then He might

be in position in this lap. TEAM RADIO: Let's keep it going.

Mark Webber takes the place, he tastes the place from the Ferrari.

Webber goes into second position. Alonso has no answer for that. You

could see early on he had a great exit. Alonso was wide through 12.

The consequence of that it is such a short apex corn, he was later --

corner. Mark was able to use the momentum. It is quite a climb over

the hill, through the kink and down across the start -- start-finish

line. Bottas under pressure. Bottas and of course McLaren of Perez

moving to the outside. Being urged on by the team and Perez is putting

together a good stint. Bottas runs wide. There is no way he can cover

the inside. Perez moves into the top ten. So both McLarens making

progress in this race, what has been a tough season. Perez crashed in

qualifying. Did a fair bit of damage to the car. He is working into the

points. This is how Webber got past Alonso Straightforward pass. Alonso

doesn't make it difficult for these old buddy. Not really friends show

themselves on the race track, but a great deal of respect there, Bottas

went defensive, and as he ran wide on the exit of turn four, Perez

manages to keep it together for five, that is where he crashed in

qualifying. A message as we see tyre, bits of rubber being thrown up

in the air as they go across the KERS, look at the momentum, most of

the damper movement. Look at this, first Button taking Hulkenberg.

Hulkenberg carries more speed through the outside line. What is

going to happen on the exit. Because Hulkenberg's exit speed will be

compromised and here comes Jenson Button, down the inside, he has got

the momentum and he will take the place, Button into seventh. He had

momentum and he got DRS. I am seeing a radio message played out to

Rosberg. He is ask why he is struggling with the rear tyres. That

surprised me he doesn't know what the set up is on the other car, it

is like a cross reference, it is like a base toucher where it gives

you confidence if you have a similar set up or you understand where your

set up is. There is Perez coming up against Ricciardo. McLarens are the

ones making the most progress. Perez on the softer of the two, the while

wall tie, he is closing up on Daniel Ricciardo. I think Toro Rosso are

hoping it was going to rain. They don't have quite the dry weather

pace of some the other teams but this is encouraging for McLaren,

seeing them move up the order. This is one of their most difficult

Championships. That will hand the place there for Sergio Perez, so

again a slightly early stop. Might be able to get through on two stops

for Ricciardo but it is earlier than they would have wished. They could

see they were losing performance and they feel it is time to bring the

car in. Look at that. Change Massa, gets past roast, so. -- Rosberg.

Massa making progress as he gets into the end field section. The

Mercedes cars having looked impressive on Friday, they seem to

be struggling a bit here. TEAM RADIO: We need to stay out for

the minute. There is the risk of showers. Rosberg was told light rain

in ten minutes. Rosberg left the door open, that was late, I suspect

that Massa wasn't entirely convinceds as he hit the brakes into

the turn that he would be able to do the pass. If you look, 1: 50. It was

late in the braking zone that Rosberg pulled over. Surprising

that. In the young teams battle at the back. Giedo van der Garde is

leading that from Charles Pic. Caterham is ahead of Marussia. They

need a bit of luck here, they need to see cars dropping out. We have

only seen one drop out so far. Grosjean looked to have an engine

failure. So Grosjean is out, but all 21 other cars are running. Vettel

has built up a 10 second lead. Let us see if Webber can close that gap.

A big lock up for Vettel. We can see the tyres of showing signs of

graining. You can see that band of different colour on the front right.

The front right takes most of the abuse round this anticlockwise

circuit. TEAM RADIO: No rain expected in the

next 20 minutes. No rain in the next 20 minutes. It may be we will have

it in the middle of the race or towards the end. Is he coming in. It

was a late turn to cut across through the pit lane, so it looks

like he was thinking about it. Just managing the wear on the front tyre,

18, two. He is falling into a comfortable zone. Eight tenths

faster than anyone else. Mark Webber 18.6. The opposition, Alonso 19.0.

Hamilton 19.0. The Red Bull showing considerable pace here. No rain in

the next 30 minutes, so that is more encouraging -- encouraging. But very

difficult to preticket here at Sao Paulo. Webber in second place. Just

to mention that Kovalainen came into the pits, so he has made a

relatively early pit-stop. It has brought him out in 20th place after

that slow start off the line. Onboard with Pastor Maldonado. Think

he was battling there with Ricciardo. We will check that as we

come there. I think Ricciardo had come out, let us go back onboard. It

is Gutierrez. So he is battling with Esteban Gutierrez, and Gutierrez

running 13th. Maldonado in 14th position. Neither have been into the

pits. Ricciardo will be behind them. Now you have Esteban Gutierrez up

against Pastor Maldonado, the man we know is leaving Williams, but still

no confirmation on where he is going to be driving. He overruns the

corner. You can see the wind direction from the plume of smoke. I

am not sure what they burn there, but that has been constantly going

all weekend. So Gutierrez 13th place, they are a

bit behind Paul di Resta. We are hearing there is a few spots

of rain in the paddock. That isn't a problem. A consistent level of rain

is. The driver, when you get the few spots on your visor, you are hyper

sensitive. They are like the Princess and the pea, anything, it

could be a tiny grain of sand under the seat and they feel it, and as a

few cars start heading to the pits, they have used up this particular

tyres. And Sutil are in. Lap 18. This is the window for a two stop

race but it depend on what happens with the conditions of course as

well and Sutil getting ahead of Bottas, that was good work by Force

India, they have managed to get him out in front of Williams. Bottas has

to be thinking, I am going to be behind them. I am going to be with

the one second window. Let us use the DRS to my advantage. They have

come out with Jean-Eric Vergne who is fighting for position, so it gets

very tight and Bottas loses out Yes, as Vergne cut across him his has

dropped back. Any hope of being in that one second window to Sutil has

gone. We are seeing a few pit spots being made. These guys are trying to

make it through on a two stop. The early stops are going to head them

into a three spotted. Sebastian Vettel's car, a bit of graining, the

grip level is not there, but he is doing competitive lap times so he is

as quick as anybody in the field. We have seen the bits of rubber coming

off it. The medium tyre being abused. Even the right one has bits

coming off. You want to take it ass far as possible. Can we' read

anything from the hard tyre performance of Jenson Button and

Esteban Gutierrez? It looks very strong. Jenson has drove a great

race. The lap times are competitive. It was disturbed by other car, you

can't use the maximum but it looks more dur rabble for sure. Here comes

Bottas on Jean-Eric Vergne, he moves to the outside. Should make this a

fairly DRS past. He goes round the outside into turn four. He leaves

plenty of space. Vergne is still there. He is going to lose another

one. Heikki Kovalainen going through. He is trying to charge his

way through the field. The two Finns just made contact and Kovalainen is

tucked in behind Vergne. Bottas has looked unsure as to where to

position his car. He got the chop at turn four. We are sticking to plan.

Just a few spots of rare. Kovalainen tried and this is an opportunity as

we see Massa has been and pitted. Perez has come in for McLaren. The

first of the big boys, Ferrari making a stop. I think Bottas has

looked clumsy, I wonder if he is so keen not to blot his copy book he is

just not driving instinctively. Kovalainen trying to move on Vergne

but Vergne is one of the latest late breaker, Kovalainen has done it. He

has mansioned to pull it off. -- managed to pull it off. Vergne is

going to is a go back at him, I think as they go down the straight

towards the turn. Kovalainen should be able to head him off. A bit of

traffic ahead. Finally Kovalainen should be safe. He is the one and

only Lotus in the race. We lost Grosjean a while ago, he is talking

to Leigh. Romaine, a didisappointing way to

end your season. What happened out there? I don't know. Engine blew. I

don't know what happened. A saw smoke and no more power: 70 laps too

early, but in is racing. And we are hoping this isn't your

last race for Lotus, will we see you back with the team? I don't know,

hopefully, we can be proud of what we did, and we have been part of the

top team. Top driver as well, so we are proud of that, and we will see

what the future brings. Jenson Button has made his pit-stop, so he

used the harder compound tyre to go deeper than some, but there are

others going further into the race, he rejoins behind Daniel Ricciardo,

that brings him out in ten. His team-mate is not far behind him. But

Button on a fresh set of tyre, Perez yet to make his pit-stop. Hulkenberg

has stopped. Vettel leads by 10 seconds from Webber, then Alonso in

third, then Hamilton in fourth place, Rosberg is still in fifth.

They haven't stopped yesterday but Alonso looks to be coming in on this

lap. We have Gutierrez having moved up

the order because he's still out there. Look at this side by side

racing. There's Perez trying to... No, it is Button, trying to tuck

himself along side the Tory Party row ros soe.

Along side the Toro Rosso. Massa has been lighting up the

timing scenes - 17.0. The fastest lap of the race for him. Vel Button

on the ininside. Gets past Ricciardo. That is an important move

to make. It is brings him into 8 eighth place. Still waiting for a

few of the others to make their stops. Perez is in the background of

that group. He's trying to close up. You can see the clouds around. There

is the threat of rain, but so far it is staying dry. Button will try and

get past Gutierrez. I don't think there is a lot that Gutierrez can

do. He's done it - no problem at all. You really need of the trust in

the man you are passing that he'll not let his car drift wide and touch

you. A replay through 14. Decides to go on the outside. That is Bottas

with that rotating camera. DRS look back at the slot gap. You

see the shot - the driver can operate that. Locks newspaper the

last phase of the braking. He can rely on just pushing the brake pedal

and it reconnecting the wing as well. Rosberg, into the pits.

Cleanly away. That looked like a quick pit-stop.

Hulkenberg, going side by side with Maldonado.

Nico Hulkenberg is in tenth position. Rosberg rejoins. Now,

interestingly Rosberg is out behind Button. Button's progress continues.

If you think that Nico Rosberg started on the front row here today.

Jenson Button started in 15th, yet now, we are one-third of the way

through the race and he's got past Nico Rosberg. T it is a sign that

the Mercedes is struggling, but the McLaren is doing well. This will be

for Webber. Vettel is at the first corner. Mark Webber is the first

to... He was trading lap times, he was quicker than Sebastian Vettel.

He brought that gap down. Oh, no! Not a mammothly slow stop. 5.1

seconds. After the record of 1.9 seconds, it felt like an age, didn't

it? And Alonso's gone through. There is Alonso. He's going to come out in

front of Webber. Going to have to do it all again. Thaw hard work to get

past the Ferrari, un undone by a few seconds in the pit-stop. Rare that

Red Bull make a mistake, but they did on that occasion. What happens

was Ferrari came in, put the new tyres. A second quicker than Red

Bull's. The time they reacted... So, have Red Bull put that mistake

behind them? Of Sebastian Vettel is going to be coming in on this lap.

So, whether, having dropped back - he's now in third place. Massa is

still in fourth. Let's see if the Red Bull pit-stop goes more cleanly.

Vettel comes in. Let's watch.

It is OK. Wasn't the best I have ever seen from Red Bull. A quick

time. 2.6 seconds. It is amazing how quickly we go, oh, half a second

slower than normal I is exceptional. All these -- -- than normal I is

exceptional. That has worked well for Vettel.

Alonso is now in second position. Having to do that work again to try

and get past the Ferrari - they are. Ferrari verses Red Bull. Second and

third. Massa is not far behind. Different tyres. Webber has gone for

the option tyre. Here are two guys who here in Brazil in 2008 had the

highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Hamilton won the championship

here in Brazil, snatching it from Massa, as he crossed the line in

what he needed to be fifth place, despited Massa winning that day. Now

we will see them racing against each other in Massa's final race with

Ferrari. There are a couple of pairings to keep an eye on. Massa

verses Hamilton. In the background Jenson Button is catching them a

little bit. He is in sixth place. It looked to me like it was the right

rear, possibly. It was still working - the right of side man had an issue

of some description. A little bit of a slow reaction to the back-man

pulling away at the -- jack-man pulling away at the front. Alonso

doesn't try and fight it. He stays out wide. The fastest lap, 69 from

Mark Webber, benefiting from DRS, nonetheless. Alonso coming back at

him. Alonso will try and go around the outside of him. Cannot do it.

Webber, defending on the inside. Two DRS zones working effectively here

in Brazil. Massa, chased by Hamilton. Then some way further

back, Alonso not giving up or getting past Webber. Really tucked

in. So little space to get past here. By the time they have gone

through this twisty section, you would have imagined that Red Bull

would have opened up a gap. It is a fastest package. It is a question of

Mark making use of that. I think his lap times were looking strong,

relative to Vettel. He was matching him once he got in clean air.

Probably that ten-second gap gives too much of a buffer, unless

something happens for him to challenge Vettel this afternoon.

Everyone has made a pit stop. Vettel leads. They come across the line, we

will see what the gap is back to Mark Webber, in second place. Red

Bull, one, two. 1.4 seconds. Alonso ux third. Massa, fourth place.

Chased by Lewis Hamilton. Sixth Jenson Button, seventh for Rosberg.

Eight for Sergio Perez. Ninth for Hulkenberg. 10th for Daniel

Ricciardo. 11th for Sutil, then 12th di Resta.

Sff Gutierrez is now in 15th position, a head ahead of Vergne.

Charles Pic is in 18th place. Chilton about to make his pit stop.

Of course, all of those young team drivers, they need to see a lot more

retirements ahead of them if the Constructors changes for that place.

The Christian, thank you for joining us. Mark Webber lost out a bit in

Nico Hulkenberg that pit-stop. Do you know what the problem was? He

had a problem. Alonso is staying close to Webber. We thought he might

make a move. It looks as if the Ferraris are going well at this

stage. The Ferrari looks happy on the harder tyre at the moment. A

great job to get past him quickly. Obviously, he's starting to get his

head down. Hopefully he'll be able to ease out the gap over the next

few gaps. What are the forecasts and your

scouts saying about the prospect of any rain in the remainder of this

race? That's the billion-dollar we. There is rain about it is whether it

will hit the circuit or not. The drivers are sitting track side. At

the moment, it seems to be staying away. We have seen one retirement in

this case. It looked like engine failure for Romain Grosjean. You are

at the end of the mailage -- mile mileage. I was not thinking about

that. What happened with the Lotus - it is on the engine. Hopefully it

will not happen to ours. We will wish you luck. One-two at the

moment. It is looking good. Thank you. Massa defending from Hamilton

here. He's opened it up another length or so. Mark Webber goes

through. Another fastest lap of the Grand Prix.

Hamilton, in that DRS zone, but not able to sort of get himself into a

position to effect the pass en masse mass, so -- to effect the pass to

Massa. We saw Alonso in the front of shot

there, right in the slip stream of Mark Webber. 0.7 of a second behind

last lap. The Ferrari working very well at this phase of the Grand

Prix. Massa is on a different tyre. He is indeed. He's on the option

tyre. His team-mate on the prime. Lap times difference between the two

half a second, which is what you would expect if the tyres were the

other way around, quite frankly. Alonso, once again, looks like he is

outdriving the performance of his own car. Hamilton here... Very quick

out the last corner. Copy that. Reduce the boost, save it for the

main drag. That is him commenting. I think Hamilton has a problem. I

think he has a problem too. Just carry on Lotuses way. A problem too

is what I heard. You can read into radio transmission what you like.

That would tally up. We can see Massa out of turn three. Hamilton

using less. They both got, let's say 50% of their boost available coming

out of turn 12. Hamilton continuing to hassle Massa. Did I mis-hear that

message? I am not sure. Massa having to defend now. It is so crucial

because it is all about second in the Constructor's points. Ferrari

would make a gain of 11 points on Mercedes. They are 15 behind. If

Hamilton got past Massa that would give them more of a buffer. There is

an incident involving Massa crossing the white line at pit-entry. A

couple of penalty points were given yesterday for that. Let's look.

There is a marker where they are allowed to cross it and where they

are not there is a line, a red line that runs down. I think he crossed

that late. Another replay of Bottas and Gutierrez going wheel-to-wheel.

They touched! More than wheel-to-wheel. They are brushing

against each other. Gutierrez, as he moved across to take his line, you

know, you've got to stay in a constant line. You cannot expect

people to disappear. If you look at the white lines there, for instance,

you can cross over a single band of white line. You cannot cross over

when it is doubled up. We have a message again - please

watch the pit entry. Do not cross with all four wheels. We have

another message. So they have been told to watch

that. It is where you cross it. It is standard practise here to cross

it, but it is where you cross it that matters. It is. It is the point

at which the line thickens and you have white shef Rons there. He's

holding it for longer than what the race director thinks is acceptable.

They have cut the line, which has never been an issue in the past,

providing you weren't physically coming from out wide and cutting

into the pit itself. That is right. We will keep an eye on that one.

Gutierrez and Gill were adminished yesterday for it yesterday.

How close is he to the back? A lock-up for both cars. Oh, they

squeeze in, just with Massa ahead. Still Lewis Hamilton, both were on

the limit there. The Ferrari fans, the Brazilians

love this. He's got a drive-through penalty. Felipe Massa - this has a

massive bearing for Ferrari on the Constructor's Championship. What a

disappointing way to lose places, when we are enjoying such a great

dice with Lewis Hamilton. TEAM RADIO: Massa has a drive

through, so don't challenge him. Don't challenge him. OK. So that

spoils the show for us, because, really, beginning to enjoy that,

Massa has been driving well and Hamilton was trying to size him up

for the pass. Now it will be easy pickings, Massa will have to make a

drive-through penalty, that will cost him round 16, 17 seconds here

at Sao Paulo. And that will certainly drop him way down the

order. He should get into the top ten. He hasn't taken it yet. He will

probably come out between Perez and Hulkenberg battle, and that will

keep him maybe in ninth. Will they leave him out on purpose as late as

possible, to make sure Hamilton doesn't gain the ground? It is going

to hurt Hamilton by station out there You are not going to want to

help, the free run of Hamilton on to the back of Alonso if we presume the

Mercedes have the has to challenge the other Ferrari this afternoon.

Jules Bianchi is about to be lapped in the Marussia. That will have

Ferrari power in it. End of the Cosworth era in Formula One for the

moment. Powers the Marussia currently but no sign of Cosworth

being involved in the new engine packages.

TEAM RADIO: We have a drive-through penalty for crossing the white line

unfortunately. At the entrance to the pit lane. So there you go. Can

you take a penalty at the end of this lap, please, so pass through at

the end of this lap. It is unbelievable. Unbelievable!

Unacceptable! A very unhappy Felipe Massa on his

home turf, you can understand why he would be complain, we will see him

come in on this lap. No, we are not. He is staying ou there. I wonder if

he is staying out on purpose. On protest. Think I I wonder. Well,

Hamilton hasn't been able to get past him. He is in fifth place.

Behind him, is this helping Jenson Button? It is a bit, although he is

8.8 seconds behind them in sixth position. Rosberg is seventh. Perez

is eightth. Hulkenberg is ninth and Ricciardo is tenth. He has three

laps from having received the message to come in and take the

penalty. Expect him to come in. We can see some spots of rain, so

unless the cameraman down at that particular corner has sneezed only

the lens, I think we can assume the rain is coming in. It looks as

though we could be in for a shower here in Brazil. Hamilton is still

stuck behind Massa, we are looking at the time comparisons to Alonso of

course, who is further up the road. Alonso in third place. Let us

listen. TEAM RADIO: Copy that lieuies, he is

trying to push you back. Don't get suckered into it. Ferrari trying to

make the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton go slower than it needs to, at this

point in the race. They are fighting hard for second place in the

constructor, they will use every tactic available and in comes Felipe

Massa, finally, Lewis Hamilton is released.

He brings the car down to 80 kilometre, this will feel like the

longest journey of his Grand Prix career. Passing through the pits.

Not allowed to stop and take on tyre, you sit there up against the

limiter. Gathering your thoughts. A wave to the stewards. He will be

having a word with them. Release the 80 kilometre pit limit and get out

of this very difficult pit lane exit. There is Perez if the McLaren.

So coming out in ninth place, Hulkenberg will be just behind that

particular battle, about five seconds, there he is? The back of

screen. So Felipe Massa has to give it

everything he has got to try and close up, more spots of rain on the

camera lens though, let us keep an eye on the lap times. 1: 17s they

are doing, but it could start to drop away, seeing that bit of rain

on the lens. Kovalainen has made another pit-stop. His second of the

day. They have done that, if there is any

threat of rain, if it is going to start getting slippery you would

want to think they would want to hang on and put intermediates on,

but it looks like a three stop strategy as we said earlier on for

Heikki Kovalainen. Unless something remarkable happens in changing

weather conditions this will be a fairly subdued end to a strong

season for Lotus. Yes, it has not been the ideal finish to them. Kimi

Raikkonen not doing the last two races due to having that operation

on his back. Kovalainen standing in for him. Lap times are holding up at

the moment, I can tell you they are not really slipping and sliding

round any more than we have seen so far. 1: 17.327. The Red Bulls have

lapped in identical lap time to the thousandth of a second they are

separated by 11.9 first to second place.

Big gap was down early in the Grand Prix when Mark had to make his way

through the traffic. Looking at the times I suspect Mark would have been

running Sebastian closer than some of the other Grand Prixes this

season. A track, he has won here a couple of time, he knows the circuit

well, so unfortunately he finds himself with that 12 second gap to

his team-mate. Onboard with Alonso. In third place,

then, 4.2 seconds behind Mark Webber. Let us watch and listen as

he comes up the hill. Careful not cut that pit lane too

much The first part you are allowed to cut, where it grows out into the

thickness of the protection at the end of the pit lane, we will hear

from McLaren. TEAM RADIO: I recommend you look up

to the front right a little. Stop talking to me. So Jenson Button now

talking to his race engineer and asking not to talk during the

braking zone. Where is the best place to talk to them, this

straight? Anywhere apart from where he has to make a big decision. This

is Williams against Williams. Bottas, Maldonado and Maldonado

making the move down the inside. And they kept it clean, thankfully. We

will take another view of this with the rotating camera.

So Frank Williams staying at the same hotel this weekend, and he

takes his exercise in the evenings, and takes, wheels himself round for

a good hour or so, and I have to say he was looking in fantastic shape. I

paid him that compliment. He said it is the first he felt since he broke

his neck which was a long time ago, but great to hear he is in such good

spirits and health. 1986 when he had that accident on the way back from a

testing session. The two Force Indias are running round together.

We don't know about Paul di Indias are running round together.

opportunity for him to try and show what he can do, but he is

opportunity for him to try and show try and get past his team-mate in

doing that, which could be tricky. They have backbench relatively

doing that, which could be tricky. evenly matched this year. Paul di

in terms of outright pace there Resta has outqualified Adrian Sutil

hasn't been a huge difference. Resta has outqualified Adrian Sutil

you, I think that when the big opportunities come, as Sutil piles

in to the pit lane. He doesn't pile in. As he pulls into the pit lane,

releases Paul, to go and do his lap time, he was only about half a

second behind Sutil, so would have been losing time in that dirty air.

Yes, in for his pit-stop, so second pit-stop for Samantha Lewthwaite. He

puts the hard -- Adrian Sutil. Di Resta, you look at it has scored 48

points so has had a stronger season, Paul di Resta. The front Jackman at

Force India, he had to pull a move like he was on Strictly Come

Dancing. He spun that jack away from the front of car as Adrian released

the clutch. We are watching Nico Rosberg here and he is is running in

sixth place, lot a bit of time in the early part. You can see Sergio

Perez is not far behind. Not quite within DRS range but not far off it.

I wonder whether Perez is going to be able to gain more grouped, now we

have seen another pit-stop from Felipe Massa, that driver, it has

dropped the Ferrari down to eighth position, he is behind this group.

TEAM RADIO: Remember the front right is the limit t Hulkenberg is in

ninth place at the moment. Looking at the points predict for, if they

finish where they are, Hamilton and Webber would be tied. Hamilton would

take the position in the Championship due to that one victory

he had earlier in the season. Mark having stood on the top spot of the

podium this year. Still no evidence that the track is getting more

slippery. The leaders are lapping in the 1: 17s. A bit of a quirk lap

from Webber than Vettel. There is no change in the gap between them. It

is over 11 seconds the gap, first to second. -- quicker lap.

Alonso driving a solid race in third place. We have Hamilton of course in

fourth position, he will be trying to catch up to the Ferrari. Ferrari

losing out what looked to be a real chance for them to close the gap to

Mercedes in the Constructors Championship. Given a big dent by

the fact Felipe Massa had that drive-through penalty. Massa behind

Perez, and Perez now within DRS range of Rosberg, so that is one to

key an eye on. Here they come. -- keep an eye on. That is surprising

that Massa, unless he had an incidents we haven't seen,

surprising he has dropped back so quickly. Maybe that, those words

from Rob Smedley about Lewis having a problem with his KERS too, is

Massa driving with an issue. Maybe. So no chance for him to overtake

just yet. Onboard here with Mark Webber. Can you see any spots of

rain on his visor? We are going to get some team radio.

TEAM RADIO: Stay away from the white line. You must stay away from the

white line at entry. We will get no more warnings. That must mean he has

had a wanting You can see the cable coming off the visor, that is what

attaches to the heating system which stops the driver's helmet fogging

up. It is one of the luxuries of the top teams. I doubt the teams towards

the back of the grid have that type of facility. Looking from the

commentary box we sit on the outside of the circuit overlooking the

start-finish. Looking downturn four it is getting hazier, so the weather

pattern is coming in. Will it come in in time, before the end of the

race? Jenson Button crosses the line, he is in fifth place, fifth

place matches McLaren's best result of the year, he has had a fifth

place. Sergio Perez has had a fifth place. Perez running in seventh but

this is a bit of a boost for McLaren. I am not sure, unless we

have a late safety car he will be able to close the gap up to Lewis

Hamilton ahead of him, because it is something like 11 seconds. So Button
