The Indian Grand Prix Formula 1

Purge your seat belt on, Eddie! -- put. This is the definition of all

kinds of crazy. Makes the start of a Grand Prix look like child's play.

Oh, we're getting off here. Stop. Get down, grandad. I thought it was

cows that were sacred here. Coming through. Oh, I don't know where to

go. The best thing that has happened to me all day. What I find amazing

is the colour. Look how beautiful this is. A present for you. Sweet

love? I needed to come to India to appreciate how much I view. I have

got to tell you, Eddie, you are really getting on my goat.

This is a rare oasis of calm in Delhi, isn't it? It's so quiet

compared to where we have been. Let's have become the face and

everybody is getting excited about. Top five and Sebastien Vettel has

got it, hasn't it? Yes. He has done everything right. He has won nine

Grand Prix so early in the season. He deserves to win the championship,

making a mistake. Strategy, David? His tyres will lend itself to two

stop the least. -- stops at least. I have a feeling like in Brazil, when

you expect something to be cut and dry, it doesn't always work out that

way. Really? Wow. And there is me thinking this is a place to crown a

champion. Hello and welcome to the Buddh International Circuit in Delhi

for the Indian Grand Prix. This is the first realistic chance

that the triple world champion will have two clinches fourth consecutive

title. Here is the deal. With a top five finish, Sebastien can guarantee

the title. For the title to continue in Abu Dhabi, Alonso would have to

win all the second with Vettel below fifth or eighth. If Fernando crashes

out, it is all over. Red Bull can wrap up the constructors title here

as well. They are currently 148 points ahead of Ferrari. After this

race, they would only need a gap of 129 points to declare victory. So,

Sebastien Vettel is sitting pretty. He is in a great position. It should

happen here, but you never know. Look back to what happened in Brazil

last year. He spun on the opening lap and everybody thought his

championship was over. He is not going to lose this one. Yes, it's

going to be exciting but I think he looks so calm and collected, I think

it will happen here. He has got an impeccable record here in India. It

is a great backdrop. His stamp of authority is on this track. He has

led every race out of here. He has won the previous two races. Who

knows what is going to happen. We will have all of the race action in

a moment, but first, here is the intriguing story of qualifying.

After two podiums in two races, Grosjean should have been

challenging for the front row. But he was sent out on the harder tyre

and was eliminated in Q1. He starts in 17th. Alonso is the only

challenger who can stop Vettel winning the title. He compromises

qualifying for a better strategy and starts on the harder tyre from

eighth. Mark Webber was the highest placed driver on the harder tyre. An

impressive lap putting in fourth. He should have been in front of the Red

Bull. I other teams the Mercedes-Benz -- the Mercedes didn't

split strategy. Rosberg picked his team-mate to take second. That left

with Vettel, who took his third pole position in as many years in India.

It gives in the best position to win the race and his fourth consecutive

title. We look strong in terms of pace. It could be a different race.

In the end, yeah, if you manage to make the strategy work, you have got

60 laps to do that. I think we are in a good position. So, Vettel gets

his seventh pole position of the season. Mercedes are behind, and

then Mark Webber. Massa, Raikkonen and Hulkenberg start on the softer

tyre. Ricciardo is 11th. Bottas is the height placed Williams driver.

Grosjean in 17th with Maldonado alongside. Max Chilton rounds out

the grid. BEN EDWARDS: Welcome to what is likely to be leading the

month of the title race. -- the revealing moment of the title race.

Vettel has dominated the last two races in India.

The beauty of today's race is, you could argue he is starting the race

on the wrong tyre. He has chosen the soft tyre and this track is tough

but tyres, particularly at the long turns at ten and 11. The rear tyres

all take a pounding accelerating out of the tight corners. The DRM zones

are going to be critical. One is on the fast rate. -- DRS zones. David,

we have two races in one today and it is possible we will only see the

outcome in the final laps. DAVID COULTHARD: The final laps could be

very interesting. But there are 50 laps before that. We have one of the

most interesting start to a Grand Prix. Last year, they were battling

all the week down to turn five to sort out the positions. How much of

your KERS are you going to use into the first corner? I would suggest

not much. Don't really want to use in the run to number three. But you

need to have it between three and four, and between four and five.

Sebastien Vettel is looking for ten wins this season. If he can manage

to do it here, he has had five victories in a row, so can he make

it six? The sequence has been done before, but not often. Sebastien

Vettel leads the grid away from pole position knowing that a top five

finish will bring him his fourth world championship. Surely his focus

now is on winning the Indian Grand Prix for the third year in a row.

That is what he has got to aim at. He leads the championship by 90

points over Fernando Alonso. If Alonso were to crash on the first

lap, the championship is all over. Gary, you love these kind of races

because of the strategy between the two. What would you be going for

right now? I am happy that Mark Webber has gone for the harder tyre.

You have to have a lot of luck for Sebastien Vettel's strategy to work

out. How easy is it for his overtake around this circuit? On the

straight, deep DRS works. But the corners, a slow corner, you could

pay the price. You could lose 1.5 seconds. That is too much. You think

Mark Webber can do this? I think so, yes. It will be the chequered flag

who tells us who wins it. Tom Clarkson is in the pits. What late

news had got for us? The mechanics are keeping their helmets on. All of

the guys on the stop tyre going to stop early. As early as lap two is

what we are hearing. However, it is going to be interesting to see what

Romain Grosjean does. He is starting on the soft tyre. The last time we

were at a front limited track like this, he managed to do about 13 laps

on the option tyre, which was soft. See how far he can go. We will keep

an eye on that. Sebastien Vettel is very accustomed to leading the way

and setting the pace on the formation. He has led -- lead 14 out

of 15 Grand Prix this year. A brilliant record so far here in

India, having led every lap. Doesn't look as though that is going to be

likely. Rosberg is alongside him on the grid there. He has allowed a

certain amount of wheel spin super tinted tyre. Moving up into

position, Nico Rosberg, back on the front row, as he was in Singapore a

few races ago. Let's see whether he can do anything from the front row

position. It is his sixth of the season. You can see the line on the

right. It shows where to business in the car. The brains behind the Red

Bull is watching closely. They are ready for the start of the race,

which seems to be a race between the two Red Bulls. Let's keep an eye on

the battle between Ferrari and Mercedes for second in the

constructors points. And watch for Grosjean, coming all the way from

17th. Can he do something special from the back? Raikkonen starting

sixth. Alonso is in eighth. Here we go, then. Lights out, and away we

go! A good start from Lewis Hamilton again, but not enough to get in

front of Sebastien Vettel. He leads into the first corner. Webber has

not got a good start! Contact with Ferrari. We need to check that.

There were some front wing damage on the car. Weather is losing more

ground here. This is not a good start. Mark Webber has not had the

start he wanted. Sebastien Vettel upfront. Look at Alonso down the

inside. Amazing. That was Massa, sorry. Massa is into second place.

The front wing took a hit off the back of Mark Webber. We saw a part

flying off the car. There has been further contact with McLaren.

Raikkonen hit Webber. I think he was saying he got hit by Webber! There

has been contact between them. Massa is up into second position as he

chases after Sebastien Vettel. This is the start that Alonzo wanted. --

Alonso. The reports from the team, they are hoping the car isn't too

badly damaged. Vettel is doing his usual trick in lap one. He has

opened an advantage over Felipe Massa and second. Hamilton is in

fourth. Behind them you have got Hulkenberg, Raikkonen and then

Webber. Webber is down to seventh place. He is still ahead of anybody

else on the harder tyre. You saw Grosjean down towards the back end

there. Hasn't made much progress yet. He is in 16th. In already are

di Resta and Jean-Eric Vergne. Presumably, they want to get off the

soft tyre as quickly as possible. That gets them into clear air. They

can run their strategy. By the time they catch up to the backfield... We

can see Button here. Van der Garde complaining about Max Chilton. He

has got damage on his car. It was pretty close to the back of more

than I know Andy Williams. Jenson Button is way down. He is done in

13th at the moment. Really bad news for Jenson Button. Vettel is in. It

is the tyres already. They are going to bring him in. He almost makes a

mistake coming in. Carried a huge amount of speed coming into the pit

lane there. This we were not expecting. Surprising that he has

gone so early. He has blitzed past you, Tom. Let's

not forget the fact that Red Bull similar to this yesterday morning.

They went out, did a qualifying simulation, put the car back up to

full tanks, and the tyres were off after a couple of laps. It is not

surprising to see it now. Felipe Massa will now be leading this Grand

Prix in the other Ferrari. The pit stop, 8.7 seconds with a front nose

cone shaped but it will be a tough afternoon's workforce Fernando

Alonso and he does not change, it is all the championship of Sebastien

Vettel. A bit of anger or frustration at having to change the

nose or whether it is a consequence of the tyres being out of the

blanket for those extra six seconds or so years running second last at

the moment, Charles Pic is last on the road. Sebastien Vettel now has

to try to cut his way through the traffic. The story of this race will

be how quickly can Vettel cut his way through the traffic and Webber

has managed to stay in front of everybody else on the harder

compound tyre but Webber is currently in sixth place chasing

Kimi Raikkonen. Nico Rosberg being urged to go past

Felipe Massa, how far are Mercedes, Ferrari with Webber two Massa going

to go on the softer tyre? It looked like Hamilton launched well. In the

end, I think a squirt of curves there to is secure position and then

just watch in the middle, a squirt of KERS. He's grapes the rear of

Webber and not a good start for the Ferrari man this afternoon. All

clean as he ran down on the brakes, and I think Webber was bounced

across. That is a normal acceleration phase there. And then

Alonso making contact with Button and then a change between the two

Mercedes. Rosberg got in front of the straight I think. The initial

getaway for Mark was not too bad. Whether he decided not to use much

of is aero horsepower, and use the contact with Raikkonen, looked like

a racing incident to me and then then a big Alonso was cupping his

tyre. We know how fragile these Pirelli is out to a bit of side

contact. Hamilton got wheel spin at the last part of the getaway, enough

to have him run and less space for his team-mate Justin Casey came back

as he went into Turn 1. And many think he makes a mistake here, watch

this. Certainly Vettel does and he reacts to it, a massive amount of

oversteer and that was why Vettel was in with that huge run their and

the long straight. We will see Rosberg coming through now with the

slipstream. We can see what it was like from Alonso's but of the

Whidbey contact with Webber. -- with the contact with Webber. Fernando

Alonso very unlucky there, Mark Webber very lucky that it has not

punctured his rear tyre. Reichel Schumacher picked up a punch on the

opening lap last year. Jenson Button with further contact there so a

pretty difficult first lap. We will see that again here. Ditty openly

steering to make way for the Toro Rosso? It look like it was under

control as he committed to the apex and then he turned wide and then

Jenson Button is committed to the turning.

Saying the steering is heavy on the right-hand corners. Power steering

on these Formula One cars is shamed to perfection. Holcombe Berg in the

pit in the Sauber. He has done six laps on the soft I -- Holcombe Berg

-- Nico Hulkenberg. Sebastien Vettel down in 15th already, lapping faster

than Massa. Kimi Raikkonen still on the softer tyre, we will be adjusted

to see what sort of lap times he can achieve. Felipe Massa is making his

pit stop and will come out behind Vettel. Meanwhile, Romain

Grosjean... RADIO: for the moment we see the car OK, so let's see what we

can do. There is the news to Alonso. You do start on a set of softer

tyres, did Romain Grosjean. All going well for him at this stage,

behind Adrian Sue Gill. -- Adrian Sutil.

A lock-up from Webber, he does not need to do that on tyres that must

go a long distance, that is not what Mark Webber wants to do. You end up

getting more of the flat spot and then when you break a bit late for

the corner next time, you will find the same localised flat spot. Jenson

Button heading in for his stop. Be happy but the touch with Fernando

Alonso. He has gone for the tyre. This is the strategy which has gone

a bit out of the window for Jenson Button, you should have been going a

long way on the medium, I wonder if there was a puncture because he has

gone to the softer tyre. Raikkonen now being passed by Perez? Not

quite. Sergio Perez on the harder tyre which is now working better

than the soft tyre on Raikkonen's car. One of the peculiarities of

this lap. Into Turn 4, five or six times the width of a normal

racetrack and it was designed that way to try to create more

overtaking. And if you don't completed there, it allows you to

get a better draw off Turn 4. Raikkonen looks like he is

struggling through the long-term ten, 11, 12 sequence. He dropped

back quite a lot compared to the McLaren. Max

back quite a lot compared to the Massa continues to lead on the soft

tyres. 1.33, as is Hamilton but it Massa continues to lead on the soft

the race. It could be to his advantage later on and incomes Kimi

Raikkonen and we saw him dropping back a bit on that last lap, being

passed by Perez and they have changed him onto the harder tyre.

You can see that the tyres have given up their ghost. He has got

those medium tyres. A slow stop there that will not have helped

them. He is in 16th position us comes back out onto the circuit and

behind him, he has got Vergne having a battle with Jenson Button and

button now chasing after Kimi Raikkonen. Jenson Button on this

different strategy for what ever problem he had in the opening stint.

Vettel is still 18 seconds behind the race leader... But in trying to

attack Raikkonen and they are side-by-side, good racing between

these two and Raikkonen distaste in front and trying to take of that is

Vergne coming round the outside. It is getting frantic down there, the

race leaders being told to come into the pits this lap but Jenson Button

and Vergne going wheel-to-wheel. Felipe Massa onto the prime. As

Massa joins, where will he be compared to Vettel? A couple of

seconds behind based on our calculations. Keep an eye on

Hamilton relative to his team-mate. Hamilton now behind Nico Rosberg. No

change amongst the group meanwhile this is bringing Vettel back up the

order after his early pit stop. Vettel has got himself into sixth

place. Felipe Massa having made that pit stop now trying to get passed

Williams. You can see how wide that corner is and how it narrows up at

the apex. Felipe Massa just using a bit of DRS there. Nico Rosberg is

not far away from Felipe Massa said that group will be together again,

Hamilton not far behind as well so Mark Webber now leads this Grand

Prix on the harder compound tyre and he is lapping quickly, fastest lap

last time around, 1.32.3. He has got clear space in front of him, nothing

ahead of Mark Webber at the moment and he must make the most of that.

Perez has come up on the harder tyre and Daniel Riccardo is now in third,

another person who started just outside on the thermal compound

tyre. Mark Webber is the fastest man on the racetrack, but look at what

Vettel was able to do in that lap, Mark must open up a gap and needs to

find seven seconds to make sure that he has got a pit stop in hand over

Sebastien Vettel. Vettel now getting amongst some of the quicker cars

that will be more difficult to overtake and the Force Indias are

quick in a straight line. This will not necessarily be easier for

Sebastien Vettel, this is where it gets more difficult and where he

must try to cut through. He makes it look pretty easy

although I say that. He moves into fifth position already. A gentle

reminder to take it easy on the tyres, do not spend too much time on

the slipstream of the car in front. If you can't find an easy way past,

a textbook slipstreaming pass from Alonso. He gets great drive as it

takes the wide line in four and starts to level out in terms of the

acceleration and probably still on the outside, Harare power against

Ferrari power. And this is what Vettel is engineer was talking about

you do not want much time in dirty air, you lose downforce then.

Corners is what puts heat into the tyres. The front left doubles up the

surface and you get these internal blisters. Fernando Alonso is in 17th

position, his team-mate is in eighth place but it is Sebastien Vettel

moving up through the field as Mark Webber leads the Grand Prix, another

quick lap from Mark Webber, a 4.9 second lead over Sergio Perez.

Fernando Alonso into the first two DRS zones. We have not seen many

passes done into Turn 1 and we don't see it on this occasion. Dips down

on the exit of Turn 1 as Vettel now gets another place, he has got past

Romain Grosjean. Romain Grosjean is still going on the softer tyres so

he's definitely going deeper into this race. We wondered if he would

do that. He will not fight the situation, he has allowed Vettel

through. We must look out for Pirelli giving

advice saying that they will not guarantee the safety of the tyres

beyond 15 laps for Romain Grosjean and we will expect to see him in the

next three or four laps. Unless they push it slightly outside that

window. A quick lap from Mark Webber again. Let's take a look on board

with Sebastien Vettel. Romain Grosjean was the slowest of

all the speed in qualifying, no DRS available to him.

It was an easy pass. That run, the 1.2 kilometre straight down to Turn

4 seems to be a much more effective overtaking spot than it was last

year and I think the reason is that the DRS zones is 80 metres longer

than it was last year and look at the progress Sebastien Vettel has

been making. He is making great progress. Beginning to catch Daniel

Riccardo now and that was the fastest lap of Sebastien Vettel,

131.3. A bit of action in the pit but we will check that any moment.

Vettel still going very quickly at the moment and Webber still leads

the Grand Prix, he has opened up a gap to 6.1 seconds. Both Red Bull

drivers are now both on the limit. They don't have to protect this time

to look after the softer tyre. Very low degradation on this tyre, Mark

Webber... Sebastien Vettel pitted at the end of the second lap and is on

a brand-new set of those medium tyres which gives him an advantage.

He will lose out a little bit with the traffic but he is keeping that

gap crucially and Mark Webber will have to stop for him so we are

seeing a straight fight here. Gutierrez is currently in seventh.

He has not come into the pits yet. He did start on the medium compound

tyres. He is able to go deeper into the race before having to make his

pit stop. If he is found guilty of a jump start, there will be a

penalty. Now, Vettel. His team in for next year is Ricciardo. He is

doing to make it look easy once again, I think. Straight down the

inside, past the Toro Rosso of Ricciardo. The next target will be

Sergio Perez. There is more of a gap to catch him. Into the pits has come

Jenson Button now. Again, another early stop. He was on a soft tyre.

Now he is going to have to do another stop, I would think, late in

the race. On board with Felipe Massa. He is currently in eighth

place. In the drivers points, if they finish where they do now,

Sebastien Vettel would win. There is a long way to go in this Grand Prix.

Alonso's next target will be Paul di Resta. Making adjustments. That

could be deferential, could be anything. I don't know what that

dial is for. It is for the driver to make the decision based on how the

car fields. Grosjean is in. He has done 14 laps before switching on to

the harder compound tyre. Again, it is going to be difficult to see

where he ends up in this Grand Prix. He is running such a different

strategy to the others. The Lotus is good at looking after its tyres. He

comes out behind Alonso. That brings them out in 15th position. Romain

Grosjean, that is going to be interesting. They are both quick

paced. They are a long way down the field. Looking at the middle, we

have got Hamilton behind Bottas. Lewis is struggling to find a way

past that Williams. Interesting. Hamilton is in 11th place at the

moment. A few seconds behind his team-mate, Rosberg. There are still

wants to keep an eye on. We know the Miss Davies started well up front.

They used the soft tyre in the initial stages. We have seen the pit

stop for Grosjean, but it is Mark Webber who lead this country. He is

looking to try and build up the pace a bit more, get a bit more speed out

of it all. Sutil is just crossing the line. Then you have got Felipe

Massa, Rosberg, further back behind him, and then Bottas and Hamilton.

In the battle of the young teams, towards the back of the field, it

looks as though Max Chilton, despite his problems, is still leading that.

We lost Giedo van der Garde on the opening lap, pretty much. It did

sound as though there may have been some contact with Max Chilton. A

Chilton is leading the group ahead of his team-mate, Bianchi. We have

seen, there is a drive-through penalty for Esteban Gutierrez. That

will help Felipe Massa a bit. That will clear him. Then, there was no

reason for Lotus to keep Grosjean out until lap 14. For the last five

laps, he was losing so much performance. I actually spoke to one

of the letters engineers on the ground and -- grid and asked if they

could do 45 laps in the prime tyre, and they said, well, we are not

ruling it out. Looking back at the start to spot Gutierrez, let's see.

This is on board with Grosjean. He was on the right-hand side,

Gutierrez. I'm surprised. Normally they say that if you gain an

advantage from that, there is a sensor in the track that picks up

from the car itself. Many years ago, there were a lot of jump start

because it detected a small amount of movement. They now have a range

issue. As long as you are within a few inches of the sensor, it is not

deemed to be a jump start. So, a lesson learned. Sometimes it's

better to position your car back the centre. -- back of the centre.

Unfortunate for Gutierrez. He had a tough race last time in Japan. That

is one detail for anybody who is going to be in F1 in the future.

Find out where the sensor is on the tarmac and work out how many inches

you have got to play with. TEAM RADIO: At the moment we are still on

plan A. He is eight seconds behind Mark Webber. They are happy to leave

him out there and do a good, long stint on those medium compound

tyres. Mark Webber continues to match what Sebastien Vettel is

doing. They are the only drivers that are in the same time bracket,

one minute and 31s. Gary, how is this all working out as you see it?

When I didn't make a good start. There was a bit of traffic. --

Webber didn't make a good start. Alonso was 19. It just shows, it is

down to luck, commitment, and a lot of things. In the end of the day,

Vettel has done some fantastic things. He has made it look so easy.

Every time he picks up a bit of DRS, he seems to fly past them. That has

helped him. If you meet the cars in the right point, use the DRS, you

can gain on lap time. Webber to Vettel is 12.4 seconds. I know you

don't have a crystal ball, Gary, but it is looking like Sebastien is on

his way to a victory. How do you see the battle for the other positions?

If I looked at it, I think it will be a Vettel-Webber, nation. --

combination. At the end of the day, that is the race. I don't see Mark

Webber having to do a third stop. He has just done his fastest lap. His

tyres are OK. Look how hard Alonso is trying. He is using all the

track. He has gone over the side several times there. He has dropped

down the order. He is just ahead. The Sauber is the fastest car in a

straight line. That is the problem. TEAM RADIO: That is a Vettel, we are

not racing him. Sensible instructions there to Perez. Don't

worry about Vettel. He is going to be in second place very soon. And

when Mark Webber pits, he will come into third position. I can see it

being a Red Bull 1-2-macro. We will see what happens. Hamilton

is now one place behind Rosberg. There is a three second gap between

them. Massa leads both of the Mercedes. Had a good lap, Felipe

Massa. Vettel I fastest that last lap. But a little mistake for once.

Yeah, locking up. We haven't seen too many mistakes from him. As he

continues to push on, getting into the EDI zone -- DIS zone, he will

have to keep an eye on that. It is looking good for Sebastien Vettel

now. Further down, we can see that Alonso has managed to get past

Gutierrez. He has dealt with the Sauber very quickly. We thought it

might be more of a problem than that. Grosjean will now try to get

past Gutierrez. Grosjean is on that different strategy. We will have to

see how that resolves. Way down the order is Jenson Button. He is in

18th place, having made two pit stops. Gutierrez has passed Alonso

again on the way down to the fourth turn. I'm sure we will see a replay

of that any time soon. This is a nice battle between these two. It is

good stuff. The rookie Mexican, who had that first points finish last

time, is dicing away with the double world champion. This is how Perez

came back fast. You can see the difference in speed by using the

DRS. The Sauber has great top speeds anyway. He still finds in cell

behind the Sauber. -- finds himself. Lots going on for Gutierrez. It is

Charles Pic up the road there. This is where Alonso was quick and got

past him on the first DRS zone. It is not going to happen on this

occasion. Also keeping an eye on Romain Grosjean. He is not far

behind these two. Alonso has got himself in a better position this

time. Gutierrez will have DRS off the caterer in front. -- caterer.

That was an indicator of how quick the Sauber is in a sherry line.

Gutierrez has stayed in front of Alonso. You can see that Grosjean is

going to go past. He stays on the tail of these guys. Mark leather is

still lapping 1: 31.1. -- Mark Webber. Here comes Vettel behind

Sergio Perez as he continues his charge through the field. He really

has cut his way through the traffic really well. Perez has his own

racier. Red Bull would be on target to win the constructors championship

here today. It looks as though it could be double success for them in

India. Is he going to pass? He just gets it done on the brakes. I doubt

Perez will have any comeback. Sebastien Vettel, then, has got

himself into second place already. We were not expecting this. We

thought that dropping back into traffic would take longer. But

already, on lap 21, he only has his team-mate at the head. Mark Webber

still has to use those soft tyres at some point, whether it is in the

middle of the race at the end of the race. More likely to see it at the

end of the race. But he still has to use them. Mark has another stop as

yet. Oh, look at this! Alonso gets past Gutierrez. That was an unusual

place to do it. Turn five, a fantastic may well stay there. Had

to be aggressive. Hopefully we will get a replay. Gutierrez was getting

a bit defensive. Here we go, then. Very late. This is into four. He

cuts back. No DRS in own. Maybe he saved his KERS. In the end, it was

smart racing. That was clever. You think you saved all his KERS for

that particular move? I think so. It is Ferrari power against Ferrari

power. You can't out power the same engine. It brings Alonso back into

13th place. Behind him, Gutierrez has Grosjean not far away. Mark

Webber continues. Look at the comparison in lap time. Vettel is

just piling the pressure on now. RADIO: Do not worry about being

overtaken by Vettel. We are in a good position. OK, OK, OK. He has

got the message. Zero degradation on the tyres right

now. Confirming that the prime tyre is able to maintain its performance

and lap on lap, which should be a bit faster as you burn fuel. Rosberg

coming under pressure from Hamilton and a little gap between Rosberg and

Hamilton, down in seventh and eighth at the moment. Let's run through

that top ten. Webber, then Vettel, Perez in third, then Daniel Riccardo

running in fourth without a pit stop yet, Adrian Sutil in fifth, Felipe

Massa in six, he has been is the pits but then Nico Rosberg and then

Hamilton, and Hulkenberg in 10th position. Kimi Raikkonen in 11th

ahead of Paul Di Resta. Jenson Button things have not worked well

for him today, a bit of contact with Fernando Alonso, had to make an

early pit stop to get off the compound tyre so Perez is running

well in third, I do not think the others on the same tyres will be

able to deliver the same result. Max Chilton leading the young teams,

only one Caterham left, Charles Pic. Bear in mind...

RADIO: Kimi Raikkonen, you need to start cooling the car on the

straights where possible. Interesting to hear that. Air

temperature 30 degrees but we have seen more than that this year. Last

time round he was .7 seconds behind Hulkenberg so running in the

slipstream of the car in front does not allow as much fresh air and

energy to pass through the side pods to cool the engine. Felipe Massa was

able to get the pace back again but Nico Rosberg having a good lunch

here and this is effectively what will be third position, the final

podium spot we would think although maybe Perez might want to play a

part in that. I do not think you will be strong enough but this is

crucial. They are having fun there. The track was designed to create a

lot of space on the way into the terms so no harm in having a go. Did

not work that time but not far-off micro. Felipe Massa just hanging on

in there, can he get a great result in one of his last races for

Ferrari? That would help him in his target of getting a decent Formula

One drive for next year. Nico Rosberg still chasing. Paddy Lowe

and Ron Meadows keeping an eye on the progress of their drivers.

Hulkenberg copperhead with him, it might have been Bottas beside him. I

think it was. Hulkenberg struggling on the way into turn ten and then

builds up the speed as he exits 12. Kimi Raikkonen is in better shape.

RADIO: That was not an advantage. Sounds like he has gone wide

somewhere and he is saying it was not an advantage gained or lost. We

will have to see a replay. If you do run off track and gain an

advantage, drive-through penalties are quickly brought about. He got

stuck behind Felipe Massa. He has got good traction, has he got

the straight-line speed to stay in frontier. The lotus of Kimi

Raikkonen was in slightly better shape than his team-mate Romain

Grosjean but still not enough to get him self in a passing place and

Raikkonen locks up, he looked like he was opening the steering there.

This was the other incident, did he run wide? The question of whether he

gained an advantage and that is why he was on the radio saying he did

not gain one. You can also bet that Kimi Raikkonen is on the radio

saying he did! Joining us on the pit wall is team principal of Red Bull,

Christian Horner. Thank you for joining us. Sebastien Vettel seems

to be doing everything asked of him because the way he has come through

the traffic is critical to the outcome of this race. That was

decisive after that early stop on Lap 2 to clear through the traffic

quickly whilst maintaining the gap. He did that extremely well and he

has got himself into a strong position and Mark is working that

gap away . Is it just a straight race between your two drivers? You

can never say that , we will see how the second half of the race goes.

Any team orders coming into play? You should know better than to ask

questions like that! They are free to race. Thank you, Christian,

hopefully we will speak to you later.

Vettel fastest of anybody in the middle sector of this race, office

lap. Nico Rosberg still chasing after Massa. A crucial fight up

ahead of them and the next question is how deep into the race do these

guys manage to go on the medium compound tyre? Radio transmission

from Adrian Sutil to his engineer say that the tyres are lasting well

so it does not look like he will stop any time soon. Right now, he

can cause them trouble by holding them up and pushing them back and

what that does is gives Perez a bit of breathing space, for instance.

Hutu rebels upfront. Force India have put in some long stints this

year, looking after their tyres well, that was when the old

construction was being used but that was when the compound was not being

stressed as much and I am wondering if they will go as far as they can.

The recommendation is around 35 laps as the maximum on the medium

compound tyre. Adrian Sutil may try to take it further than that. He

will have to run the soft tyre at some point, still Felipe Massa and

Nico Rosberg. A chance for Rosberg and Felipe Massa having to do is

Rosberg. Lewis Hamilton is catching them. Who will be watching them to

see if they get tangled up with each other and Lewis dropping back little

bit, but wanted to get involved in this battle -- not wanting to get

involved. We are approaching the half distance mark in this Grand

Prix and it is Mark Webber who continues to lead the race but

Vettel is chasing after him and the strategy which seems to favour

Webber at the start of this, once again, Vettel seems to convert it

towards his favour are plenty more going on behind. Remember any

Constructors' Championship, Ferrari and Mercedes are having a battle for

second place and we have got to Ferrari versus two Mercedes here.

Tom, what have you got? Interesting to hear Christian Horner comment

about the prospect of a safety car because they will certainly be

wondering what tyre they put on Mark Webber's car next, another prime

tyre? Or do they go for an option? If you put a prime on and get a

safety car, you will have to put the option tyre on and can either get in

the end of the race? That is the question going through their mind.

Rosberg making a stop, a really interesting pit lane entry, the car

is on the limit all the way round here. Much more visibly than normal.

You look a tight turn on the end of turn 16 and then the pit limit is

some way further down so they have to attack it. We have seen a number

of the cars go sideways. Grosjean will see the Mercedes ahead

and interesting to see if he has the same kind of pace and maybe get

himself into a position and into the pits has come Mark Webber, he has

gone for his first pit stop in this Grand Prix, 29 laps putting the soft

tyre on and so he has gone for a short stint now, they have not left

it until the end of the Grand Prix which is what they thought they

might do, they have gone for the soft tyres. You will only be out

there for maybe five or seven laps, you would think. In a space behind

to get clean air and drop behind Perez. Perez has done his stop. Gone

on to the softer tyre as well so same strategy for McLaren and the

final stint will be on the medium compound tyre once again and Perez

is one to keep an eye on, he has gone up behind Hamilton but ahead of

Hulkenberg said there is Lewis Hamilton. He has not made his second

pit stop yet. Rosberg coming in earlier than Hamilton on this

occasion. Hamilton tried to close the gap up a bit more to Felipe

Massa. This part of the race is all about how the car and the drivers

have looked after their tyres and Hamilton seems to have looked after

his very well. This was Grosjean on Gutierrez aim at ago. A quick switch

back and then switch back the other way. A double dummy.

I read French men trying to overtake a Mexican into that! Was Tierra is

moving too much in front of Grosjean? -- was Gutierrez? I was

more watching the car behind so there is the message, all depends on

how much movement Gutierrez was doing in front of Romain Grosjean.

Mark Webber is back out now in second place after having made his

pit stop, Sebastien Vettel leads the Indian Grand Prix as we reach the

half distance point and is driving beautifully once again as he tries

to complete this 100% record of Indian victories and also get his

World Championship. His only opponent in the Drivers'

Championship is Fernando Alonso who is done in 12, that will not do at

all. Meanwhile, lots going on in the race for the final podium slot and

Sergio Perez has got a real chance on Lewis Hamilton here trying to

pick it up, he has got the soft tyres on, Perez, and he is trying to

make the most of the extra grip babe bring you at the start of the stint.

Hamilton holds off. That tyre is about .5 of a second faster,

Mercedes power against Mercedes power and he has made it work that

time. Perez will try to get in amongst Massa who has been held

behind Adrian Sutil. Sutil going a long way on these tyres, Lap 31 as

he is chased by this group. On board with Vettel, editor of lock-up

there, needs to be looking utterly tyres but Mark Webber is no going

very quickly on his new set of tyres, he has set the fastest lap of

the race, 129.5, they are racing against each other.

That is the gap, ten seconds between them and Webber has to use the soft

tyre later on. 15 laps available on the tyres, it is unlikely that he

will be able to catch Vettel before having to pit. Look at this pit

stop, Hamilton out behind Felipe Massa, where is Rosberg? He will not

be that close, here comes Alonso. That looks pretty neat and tidy,

2.9, same as Lewis Hamilton. Away they go once again. As they rejoin

the field, that is a Force India pulling out there.

RADIO: Box, box, box. Sebastien Vettel will now be coming in for his

final pit stop and he will then take the medium compound tyre to the very

end of this Grand Prix. Crucially, he has such a lead over Daniel

Ricardo, he can do a normal pit stop and get back out in second place.

Webber will make his final pit stop pretty soon because he is on the

soft tyre and he will not be out there for very long so we will get

the real picture here very, very soon because I want Hamley laps

Webber will manage to do, Vettel and needed a few -- how many laps. He

only did two laps and then came back on the end of that. Webber make a

longer than that but his lap time has been good. A good lap but it

depends on the next one, can he maintain that pays? Unlikely based

on everything through practice, that option tyre will be getting micro

blisters at the end of the first lap and when it gets worse, it will only

get worse. Webber has got the pit stop to make little plug that gap,

surely not much enough for him to make a pit stop so he needs to get a

bit more performance out of those soft tyres, Vettel knows it, he

bit more performance out of those on the limit at this crucial stage

of the race. Clean air for Vettel, likewise for Webber. This is Romain

Grosjean. We can see the movie made on Alonso. -- the move he made.

different strategy, by the looks of things. Fernando Alonso is not

behind the McLaren for much longer, unless Jenson comes back. He does

take the place. They are not -- they are having fun, but it didn't work

out for Jenson there. Mark Webber is in. He is going to make the change.

Vettel has already gone past. He has got the lead of this Grand Prix.

Mark Webber comes out behind some traffic as well. He has come out

behind Daniel Ricciardo. Now it is a race to the end, but it is Vettel

who is in front. Red Bull will have put that option tyre on Mark Webber

to get it out of the way. If the safety car had come out, he would

have been in a bad place. Now he is able to race to the end. A unlikely

he is good to make much headway to what Sebastien Vettel, who has got a

comfortable lead. We saw Perez getting out shape as well. He is

running a good race today. He is not far behind Mark Webber. But he does

have another pit stop to make quite soon. His soft tyres are beginning

to wear off. That is why you are seeing Perez move around so much. He

is still a player in what could be some decent points. An investigation

into Hulkenberg and Rosberg. It has taken a while to come up. We saw a

replay earlier on when Hulkenberg went off track when going around

Bottas. He believed he was squeezed off track. That doesn't always seem

to serve as an excuse these days. Might be tough for him to argue that

one, or, at least, for the team to argue. What is the gap between

Vettel and Mark Webber? It is 12.5 seconds. My goodness. The computer

predictions had Mark Webber ahead at the end of the race by some four or

five seconds. At this stage, that has got a second advantage. That was

in response to him going fastest ball. -- fastest of all. The

previous lap record here was 27.2. That was him, too. I doubt they are

in a division to beat that. -- a position. The only thing that

matters is getting the car to the finish. He is leading this Grand

Prix. He just has to keep himself out of trouble. He could take a

third straight win in India. There has been no further action on the

Hulkenberg -Rosberg action. Hamilton is attacking and trying to get past

the Toro Rosso. Ricciardo made the pit stop. Hamilton tried to take

advantage of it. It is going to be tough on this section of the

circuit. Not what he wanted. That is how it has worked out for him. Gary,

Sebastien Vettel, once again, just amazing. A fantastic drive through

the traffic. There's always this question, can he win from behind? He

did pass people. The momentum is there. Webber didn't go for the tiny

could have done. -- isn't there. Webber didn't go for the time he

could have done. May be the safety car could have affected things.

Here, at this track, the big-time is the first couple of laps. There are

lots of run-off areas. They know they are in for a good position.

What about third place, and Sutil? How far is he going to go? He is

currently in third but he has come a long way on those medium compound

tyres. And the lap times have not been bad. Pirelli did advise the

teams to do 35 laps. They have just hit lap 35 now. TEAM RADIO: Our

tyres will be OK to the end but we can't go crazy. No, and Vettel is

still increasing time. Perez is cutting to the traffic. What are his

chances of a decent result? The opening of the gap to get ahead of

Hamilton. -- he opened the gap. We know that Raikkonen has to pit

again. It is not going to unfold until the last lap. Raikkonen is

beginning to catch Adrian Sutil a touch. ) did start on the soft

tyres. He has done 28 laps on these tyres. -- Raikkonen did start. A

pretty impressive run from the German. He is a quiet man. But he

has been getting on with bringing the car home in good positions. His

team-mate has made two stops already this afternoon. Stop very early at

the beginning of the Grand Prix. He is coming down just behind Alonso in

14th place. Alonso in 13th. Button is in 18th. McLaren have lost 30

seconds to Vettel over the course of the race. Now, looking at the gap

between Vettel and Rosberg, it is over 30 seconds. It shows the sheer

pace the Red Bull has against the Mercedes at this point. Mercedes,

though, will be looking at Ferrari and what they are doing. Currently,

Mercedes are there. They have got two cars in the top ten. Hamilton is

further down, in ninth. There is a ten point gap between savers and

Ferrari. It -- between Mercedes and Ferrari. The tyres are much older.

Alonso has been in again. His third pit stop. He is going to come back

out. Let's see where. He is in 16th. I think he is good to be

behind Gutierrez again. That will be fun. They have some entertaining

dicing earlier on. As things stand, Sebastien Vettel will win the

championship and Red Bull will certainly win the constructors

championship. Both titles look to be settled. There is not much that

Alonso in particular can do about it. So, on board with the Red Bull.

Things will change as we get to was the latter part of the race. We are

on board with Ricciardo. He is chasing Felipe Massa. Betty is

looking forward to getting his hands on a Red Bull. -- I bet he is

looking forward. He has done enough to impress the senior team. It is a

chance of a lifetime, to go up against what is going to be a

four-time world champion, and show what you are made of. It is every

driver's dream. Perez is still going well. Looks like a retirement for

Charles Pic. Van der Garde was the first retirement. He is not out of

the car, yet, though. TEAM RADIO: We have a serious issue on the car so

we are retiring. Doesn't look like any chance for Marussia to gain on

them in the title positions. Sutil is still going. They said 35 laps.

Did we think that he might make this a one-stop race? We wondered about

was Jean. -- about Grosjean. TEAM RADIO: We need to push harder. How

much harder? Had every Spurs at -- we had every prospect of going to

the end. The guys at notice are going to be watching carefully. They

have got to get 46 laps out Grosjean 's tyres. The lap times look fairly

consistent, actually. It would give him a good chance of having a good

top finish, which would give force in the a lift. They have been under

pressure from Sauber recently. They goes Ricciardo. -- would give Force

India a less. We're watching Nico Rosberg. He is

currently in fifth place. Behind him is Romain Grosjean. He is quite a

long way behind. We have got a Marussia between them. Just to

remind you what is happening, Sebastien Vettel leads the Indian

Grand Prix. He started on the soft tyre. We thought maybe he would be

better on the hard tyre. TEAM RADIO: We are losing gearbox synch. What

does that mean? Wendy driver pulls the paddle, you get this constant

acceleration. He is in trouble! Mark Webber pulls off! It is all over!

Years out. The fans are rushing down to the fence to try to get a view of

Mark Webber. It is all over and the man who many people thought might

take a victory here today, and in the constructors championship it is

a loss of points as well. We gather it is an alternator failure. We

haven't seen one of those much this year. It was last year that we

really saw the problems. But Mark Webber is out of the Indian Grand

Prix. TEAM RADIO: I am aware. What is it do about it? Not much. No

longer is Mark Webber in second. There are a number of big screens

around this track. Sebastien will have been looking at the television

and seen as Mark has pulled. A disappointing finish for Mark

Webber. Lose the alternator and you lose hydraulic pressure, lose the

hydraulic pressure and you don't get the gear shift. Somebody has got the

gloves, though, because he has just thrown the gloves into the crowd. He

probably feels like throwing the car into the crowd. You have to feel for

him. As his Grand Prix career winds down, after an opportunity that he

might get a victory, he was on for second place, but sadly not to be.

Some slightly glum looking faces on the Red Bull pit wall, despite the

fact it is likely that they are going to be able to get both

championships here today. Ferrari aren't scoring that many. It is

Webber third retirement of the year. Well, look, he was still at the date

be OK for Red Bull to win the constructors championship. -- he

would still be OK. That is something to keep an eye on. In terms of the

constructors championship, Red Bull need to be 129 ahead at the end of

the race in order to make sure the title here is gained. The worry is

that if it can happen to one car, maybe it can happen to the other. We

have seen this before for Red Bull. A few years in -- years ago in

Valencia, that is what put Mark Webber out. They had a gearbox issue

at Silverstone this year. They seem to have got to the bottom of that.

Suddenly, it has reared its head again. Sebastien Vettel may have

some nervousness. They can turn down the engine more. That will bring the

RPM down. They could take some temperature away from the car. They

will hope they are not and you have a similar issue. Raikkonen still has

another pit stop to go as the soft tyres go on Adrian Sutil so will he

try to do a mammoth stint on the soft tyre longer than anybody else

had achieved? But remember Grosjean did 15 laps in the first part of the

Grand Prix so they are hoping to do just a bit more. If you can control

the blistering, the car has burned off a lot of his weight. Starting to

get to a position where the car tends to slide around less, if he

keeps out of the slipstream of cars in front when he should be able to

make those 18 laps. But will he have the pace? It would not take an awful

lot for him to lose pace and then drop way out of the points. This is

what happened to Mark Webber. RADIO: We need to stop the car, I am

very sorry. Stop the car? Correct, stop the car. Stop the car. Pullover

on a safe place. It was an alternator. The same instruction to

Vettel in Monza last year. It can mess up the rest of the engine and

these engines are used multiple times so they really need to cut it

very quickly. Who saw his engineer their, hands on his chin,

disappointment for the whole team. I don't know if that has given

Fernando Alonso a lift but he has set the fastest sector time. Alonso

is all the way down in 14th position currently battling for fifth with

Felipe Massa battling with Lewis Hamilton, not far behind the

Ferrari. Seems evenly matched, Ferrari- Mercedes run. Rosberg is

ahead of them with Grosjean in between. Hamilton, he had contact in

the first ever grand prix. The only track on the current schedule that

Lewis Hamilton has not had a podium finish on. We wonder what he can do

to fix that today. We have now lost Webber, there is a chance for two

other podium finishes other than a Red Bull so let's see what happens

as Hamilton tries to bear down on Felipe Massa. A lot quicker an entry

speed to 15 but cleaner as he leaves the turn. This is about trying to

get into the DRS zone, he will be able to release it on the start, get

himself into a closer position and then crucially he has got to be as

close as possible when they enter the third turn. Still lots of fans

trying to get a view of the red role of Mark Webber as it is taken out of

the way. It is reassuring to see so many fans out there, as

disappointing as it is for Mark. There is enthusiasm for motorsport

in India and it takes time. He still manages to have a smile on his face

which is incredible. He is there with his trainer and his media

helper. He is quite clear, he is out of here. They are not allowed to

leave the circuit until the race control confirms that there is no

incident to be investigated. Unlikely that he would be up for

anything that they do need to get confirmation from race control

before leaving the circuit otherwise you could get a penalty at the next

event. If it ended up being a great -- grid penalty, that could be very

bad. We're watching Felipe Massa still in

front of Lewis Hamilton in the battle for fifth place. Managing to

just edge in front of that Mercedes, Kimi Raikkonen still in second place

but he has to run the soft tyre still at some point in this Grand

Prix so I wonder if that will change around. That would bring Rosberg

into second and Grosjean is the other one who is on the different

strategy. Both Force Indias are in the top ten but of course on

somewhat different strategies. Paul Di Resta is head of Adrian Sutil.

Both Force Indias in the points at this stage. That would be something,

they have had put in India before and it would be nice to see both

cars in the points on this occasion, let's wait and see as we watch Lewis

Hamilton with still no change. Danielle Ricardo, no further action

on the action between Gutierrez -- Danielle

no complaints from Grosjean. I don't think Bottas will give up but there

is not quite the space to do it. And so he finds himself in 12th place,

Gutierrez is in 11th as Mark Webber faces the world's media. And it is a

very short and brief interview but we can just hear from him. Let's

hear what he had to say. He sounded quite surprised being told to stop

the car any problems beforehand? I felt the problems in the gearbox and

I told the guys and then they thought it would clear but it looks

like it has come back very quickly. Were you disappointed to have to put

the soft tyres on or would you rather run them at the end? We have

to protect against the safety car as well. You have to run them for a few

laps which we did will stop if you put the rhymes on and go again, you

are a bit exposed to the safety car. It is a bit more... In the end, I

have a smile on my face, I couldn't do any more today. That's it. That

is it, he sounds like he will be going out pretty soon. He put in a

good effort, surely enough to get second. Fair play to him, and he

still a smile on his face. He did not get the result that maybe he

deserved or certainly that he deserved but he was enjoying

himself. Alonso joining the back of this lot, there was contact between

him and Webber on the very first corner of the Grand Prix and then

Jenson Button had contact, he is done in 16th place. Alonso had a

front wing change so that dropped him down the order but unlike

Vettel, he has not been able to cut through. He said early on that there

was a different feeling on the car turning right to turning left so we

do not know for sure that there is not just more damage on this car

than simply the front wing. He has not made much headway with lots of

traffic in front of him. And the Ferrari has not had the pace as he

locks up massively. In other Grosjean is going to be struggling a

bit on his tyres which have done 33 laps already. Felipe Massa has only

done 16 laps on his medium compound tyres. Further back, Paul Di Resta

still in the top ten slot. Alonso has got his eyes on a point this

afternoon, all of these cars in front. He can work his way through

them and get in front of Adrian Sutil, he will be picking up one or

two points. Alonso has made three pit stops here. He is on a slightly

fresher set of tyres than some of those around him.

RADIO: Try and save you will if you can. -- save fuel. You cannot save

fuel without losing pace. You turn the engine down or start rolling out

of the throttle before the braking zone and basically shutting off the

throttle but both of those things will affect lap time. Kimi Raikkonen

will lose lots of places when he makes his pit stop because although

he is trying to open up the gap behind him, it will drop down, quite

deep into the top ten when he makes his pit stop. About 21 seconds for

his time in the pit lane. I will comment on Romain Grosjean who has

just set his fastest lap of the race on tyres that are 34 laps old so I

am sure he is looking very good to do these last 12 laps and hopefully

keep this up and keep Felipe Massa behind him. Gutierrez is coming in

for his third stop. That dropped him out of this group. Bottas going

through and then Daniel Ricciardo. Even if Vettel has a recurrence of

what we have seen from Mark Webber here, it is no good for Fernando

Alonso to be where he is. But Toro Rosso Anne Williams behind them

somewhere will be Fernando Alonso who takes full advantage of the loss

of momentum and Bottas even has a go at going past Daniel Ricciardo.

They have got one of those cars out of the way and are useful but

opportunist overtaking from Fernando Alonso who now chases the Toro Rosso

per head, catching Adrian Sutil who is on the soft tyre. Reasonable lap

times but up ahead of him, Paul Di Resta on the medium compound tyre.

RADIO: You are doing a really good job there. That should become second

when Kimi Raikkonen mixes pit stop. His engineer is getting him a watch

for effort. The DRS and suiting the Ferrari but let's see if it works

for him now. As they get about 350 metres long this straight then the

DRS flap opens up at not sure if he will get that off the car in front

of him. Nico Rosberg may have asked a question about what position I in

and they are saying that Kimi is in P2. Your pace is good, Sebastien,

keep it tidy. It is Rosberg who is the fastest on the track. The

question is, can Raikkonen keep going to the end? It would seem

unlikely given that Pirelli were saying that there was a 35 lap

limit. Romain Grosjean may well be trying to do something similar. We

will have to wait and see that Raikkonen has an awful lot of laps

to do. And he is 1.2 seconds slower than Nico Rosberg. We are on Lap 50

with Vettel on board. Ten laps remaining as KERS is under pressure

from Fernando Alonso and still no way through for the Ferrari. Vettel

absolutely in command here and despite having to cut his way

through the traffic in the early stages, he has had no problems at

all. Let's look and see the use of KERS here. Alonso has not gotten so

close enough to make it past Daniel Ricciardo using up all his

saying he will not do it in to Turn 3,

saying he will not do it in to Turn there on the right of the screen so

that allows him a boost of KERS there on the right of the screen so

he leaves Turn 4 but they take away the graphic there. We don't know if

you used it there because they took the graphic there. We don't know if

going quite quickly at this stage, quite impressive with his lap pace

bearing in mind he has done 36 on the medium compound tyre. There

is no doubt that the Lotus cars are looking after the

is no doubt that the Lotus cars are well as we have seen through the

rest of the year. Similar tyres well as we have seen through the

used in Germany, same type of compounds, different construction of

one axle but they have a great race in Germany and hunted Vettel down in

the end. I am not sure that they will be that kind of form because

Rosberg is still looking strong himself and he is catching Raikkonen

at the moment by about 1.5 seconds per lap. Across they go over the

line. Maldonado is running in 13th and Bottas has dropped back a bit

because he has been in the pits. Gutierrez has made another fast lap

and Max Chilton is leading in the battle of the young teens. It looks

like Raikkonen will try to go to the end. I think you will end up losing

that position to Rosberg, Grosjean is only nine point six seconds

behind. Village 's team-mates will be going head-to-head once more as

we see just what the others are doing. We are on board with Nico

Rosberg and he has now caught Kimi Raikkonen and is absolutely with

him. Interestingly, Rob Smedley has just told Massa that they think that

Kimi is going through to the end. Maybe it is training the battery

from the car. It can be a sign. He will have a clean pass down into

turn number four. Rosberg takes second place with that. Kimi

Raikkonen, I wonder if he is trying to go all the way on this set of

tyres. He has to be. I just ask that question to one of the Pirelli

engineers. Can) get to the end of the race one those tyres? -- can

Raikkonen. His response was, Mamma Mia! Very nice! On board, this was

the view from Kimi Raikkonen. He makes the decision nights and early.

-- nice and early. Soon he is due to be under pressure from his

team-mate, Grosjean. If Raikkonen makes a pit stop now, he is going to

go a long way down the order. He will come out in about eighth or

ninth position. He is in big trouble, Raikkonen. The gap is down

to 7.8 seconds. Grosjean is in great shape. It looks as though he might

be on for another podium finish. In China a couple of years ago, he fell

out of the points in the last couple of laps. He is not looking very

healthy for his tyres. Grosjean, who is on a one-stop race, he came from

17th place, let's not forget. He is trying to do 46 laps on his tyres.

He is still lapping very quickly. So, impressive stuff from Romain

Grosjean. Felipe Massa is still behind them. Hamilton is in sixth

place. Perez is in seventh. Very much on target, Vettel, to winning

the world championship. Another 25 points to add to his tally if he

continues this way. Alonso is getting up alongside Ricciardo once

again. That was down into turn three. He has worked out that he

doesn't have the speed as he goes down into four to affect the pass.

He is getting a straight as possible towards five. Is anybody going to

make a late, late pit stop? Right now, it is looking as though they

want to go to the end. Kimi Raikkonen is being caused by his

team-mate, Romain Grosjean. -- is being caught. Grosjean is still

taking chunks out of Kimi Raikkonen. 1.8 seconds faster in that last lap.

He is at the end of the life of those tyres. If he stops, he's going

to go way down. Hulkenberg, a late stop for his load -- soft tyre.

Let's just see Nico Hulkenberg. He started on the soft tyre. He was

trying to get to the end. But he has had to come in. That has dropped him

out of the top ten. That will promote di Resta and Sutil. Got

enough problems at it is, so keep going. He is trying to control his

man. He wants to get the fastest laps. The likes of Hulkenberg, going

out on a set of soft tyres, if it is a new set, he is likely to be faster

than battle and maybe take the fastest lap of the race. There are

no points for that. Exactly. Vettel just need to concentrate on his own

race. It is like Singapore all over again. He had half a minute there.

It looks as though he is going to have a similar margin on this

occasion. The race for third and fourth is going to be getting very

exciting soon as Raikkonen is being caught by Grosjean. This is for the

last point this afternoon. You can see how close Alonso is. He has been

trying hard to find their way past the Toro Rosso. Maybe his hope is to

let him back up onto Adrian Sutil and see if it gets messy. Mixed

emotions at Red Bull. It looks as if things are going their way. There is

some tension there. Here comes the surgery Perez on Lewis Hamilton. At

least, he is trying to. They are racing for sixth position. That is a

much bigger improvement in form from McLaren. We haven't really seen

McLaren go up against Mercedes much this year. This has got to be a

boost for McLaren to seek Perez dicing with Hamilton. In

questionably. -- unquestionably. He is finding his form late in the

season. Hulkenberg is back in the pits. He has got a problem. He said

on the radio, some skins or something. So it is a non-finish.

That is a shame. It brings a run of four consecutive points to an end.

Still his best sequence in Formula one. I am in the Sauber barrage, and

I can say that will Hulkenberg made the last pit stop, the team was not

ready. -- Sauber garage. He is now back in. The problem is something to

do with the underneath of the car. Grosjean is about to go past

Raikkonen! He goes around the outside but he does it off track. He

does give up the place, look. He has learned his lesson from Hungary,

when he went past Felipe Massa, and he has let Raikkonen back through.

He was determined not to make it easy for Grosjean. He has managed to

keep his tyres. That has come as a shock to Raikkonen. Remain Grosjean

started in 17th place. I don't see how he can he -- keeping behind for

three more laps. Behind them, Felipe Massa is catching. Raikkonen is

moving out of the way because it is Felipe Massa that is the danger.

They want to finish in front of the Ferrari. Loaders are catching

Fernanda -- Ferrari and Mercedes. -- Lotus eye-catching Ferrari and

Mercedes. He has done 49 laps on these tyres.

The gamble seems to be working for Grosjean. They almost make contact.

I don't think Grosjean can complain too much. Put yourself on the

outside and you have to accept that the car on the outside can squeeze

the line. Grosjean is very smart -- smart. He let's him back through. In

giving up that place, Raikkonen lost a position to Massa as well. Look at

Perez. This is for sixth position. Hamilton has reported that the tyres

have given up on him. He is really fighting to try and stay in front of

the McLaren. This wouldn't be McLaren's best finish of the year.

They had a fifth place this year with Jenson Button in China. That

was on a similar kind of tyre in China that we are using here.

McLaren are definitely having one of their better weekends of the season.

Look how slow Raikkonen is going. He is going to be taken by both these

guys now. He has rolled the dice, he took the gamble of the tyres. There

is nothing left. Lewis Hamilton gets passed Kimi Raikkonen. Or does he?

No, he doesn't. He wants to get the DRS zone out of the three. This is

strategic. The white line denotes where you get the activation in

terms of the one second window. Now he will be able to activate his DRS.

Here we go. Perez has gone past both of them! Good driving from surgery

Perez. Raikkonen is still struggling on his tyres. Lewis Hamilton has run

out of grip with his car. He has that got a bit of a charge going

here. He is going to be on the outside, though. Sergio Perez has

moved himself up into fifth place with that. He is managing McLaren's

best result of the season so far if he can continue there. Brilliant

driving from all three. It was comical, coming of turn one. Lewis

didn't want to get in front. He would be a sitting duck as he ran

down the long straight into turn four. Just listening to the radio,

we don't always get all the radio. The team to Kimi Raikkonen were

saying, get out of the bleep way. Up front, no doubt about who is leading

this race and who is heading for victory once again. It is this guy,

Sebastian Vettel. David, he has just done it's all -- also perfectly.

Will he get out in front of di Resta? It is going to be close, the

gap between the two of them. That will salvage eight or ninth place

for Raikkonen. Well, here comes... He is goes you end up losing

performance to Massa. It is Sebastian Vettel, coming on to the

last lap. He has dominated this race. The gap is up to 26 seconds.

It has come down slightly in the last lap or two. What a drive by

Romain Grosjean, to come from 17th on the grid and to do it on one

stop, which nobody thought was possible. We were talking to other

teams this morning who said, no way could he do this on a one stop. Yet

Lotus have managed it. Raikkonen has come out in front of di Resta. He is

in seventh place. They are going to have both cars. Sebastian Vettel has

once again beaten them all. A dominant display, whether he is your

cup of tea or not. There is no question that he has used the

machine at his disposal to full effect. Raikkonen is in front of di

Resta and he has the good tyres on so he should be up to stay there. --

be able to stay there. That is the margin of Red Bull and Sebastian

Vettel's authority. It is going to be the biggest win ever here in

India. As he crosses the line, Sebastian Vettel is the 2013 world

champion! He takes three at three wins in India. An absolutely

remarkable record. He has delivered in style. He has won it from the

front. His 10th win of 2013, as well. Double the number of victories

he had in 2012. Sebastian Vettel has achieved his goal once more. Second

place, then, goes to Nico Rosberg. That was a solid drive. Just showing

you the difference in pace between them, third-place going to remain

Grosjean. That is going to be a fabulous performance as well.

Grosjean finishes in third. From 17th. Perez matches McLaren's best

result of the season in fifth, beating Lewis Hamilton. Sebastian

Vettel, well, he was the youngest ever world champion three years ago,

at 23. The boy wonder of 2010 has become the man for four seasons.

Unbelievable what he has achieved. He has joined such a select group.

TEAM RADIO: You have done it in style! Fantastic, you are a

four-time world champion. You join the greats. Well done. And, of

course... Unbelievable. Yes, yes! Good job, mate. Good job. He has

done it, joining that fantastic group of drivers. They have all won

four titles. Now that'll have done it. Looking at Red Bull, they have

been in this situation before, but that relief but micro-wonderful

scenes in the Red Bull pit garage. This is an Austrian owned team, but

it is British engineering that has taken success. A Milton Keynes

-based outfit, Red Bull, has taken the world by storm for the fourth

year in a row. He executes some perfect doughnuts in a cloud of

smoke on the start-finish line Stuarts might find him but I don't

think he really cares at point! Here in India, it is surely a superhero

because he has won every Grand Prix we have had here. We are definitely

not coming back next season, some say we might be back in the future

but he has taken all three wins in three years as he gives praise to

his car. The whole team that has put that were in, Adrian Newey's genius

and since the summer break, they have confounded the other teams.

Mercedes have been on the pacesetting pole positions, winning

races in the early part of the year but he had to tip the hat tip the

hat, but we have to set the hat is off, he is not so good at throwing

as he is as driving! Sebastian Vettel was -- will still make the

most of that. The four titleholders who have won the title four times.

Fangio was 45 when he won his fourth title, Alain Prost was 38, Michael

Schumacher was 32 and he has done it at the age of 26. It is just

unbelievable what he has achieved in these recent years. And lovely to

see Sebastian making the most of this, running around, going to the

grandstand, really enjoying the moment. He has been able to do this

on that occasion. Lovely celebrations. Now coming over to the

pits to celebrate with the team itself. Cameras at the ready to grab

hold of him. He has conquered motorsport's most prestigious title

more times than Jackie Stewart, more times than Nicky Lauber, Nelson

Piquet, a triple champion and he is the only driver to win his first and

fourth titles in one continuous sequence, that has never been done

before. When drivers have won four in a row, it would not have included

their first World Championship so he continues to break new records and

there is Christian Horner and Adrian Newey to celebrate the moment with

him. That is the one he wanted, the one

that makes sure of the championship. And he's done it in India which has

been such a great circuit for him. He didn't lead every lap on this

occasion but Kimi Raikkonen snatched the last slap on the last occasion

but it does not matter because he taken the title. Adrian Newey will

pick up the constructors Trophy, they have won the Constructors'

Championship and when you think in nine years of existence, Red Bull

have one that on four occasions. It is a remarkable record for the team.

Rosberg picking up the trophy for second place and the bad luck that

seems to have afflicted him recently he has put behind him and Romain

Grosjean picks up another third place, what a great sequence of

races he is having at the moment. This guide has definitely

established himself as one of the stars of Formula One, despite the

difficult 2012. So to confirm today's race result,

there is Sebastian Vettel with 25 points, Nico Rosberg and Romain

Grosjean shed a podium, Felipe Massa was fourth, Sergio Perez a brilliant

fit and Daniel Ricciardo the final point in the top ten. In terms of

the Drivers' Championship, that belongs to Sebastian Vettel, it is

his fourth world title in a row. Fernando Alonso second place, Kimi

Raikkonen third but look at that, Paul Di Resta has made it into the

top ten. In terms of the Constructors' Championship, Red Bull

are champions yet again but look at the battle for second place,

Mercedes leapfrog over Ferrari and that is still well and truly on.

After all the PR commitments, Sebastian went down to his garage to

celebrate and fantastic scenes in front of the Red Bull pit. All the

media wanting a piece of him and celebrating and looking as happy as

indeed he should be. And now let's hear from the main

players in today's race. When you started off getting back all those

years ago, did you allow yourself the dream of being Formula One world

champion? It was way too big, my head was very small add my brain

capacity was way too small at the time. It was crazy. I raced and when

I started watching Formula One properly, there were guys like

Jenson Button, Fernando already racing and even marked as well, and

he scored his first point in his first race in the Minardi. I was

like that watching it on the TV and my father, the time we spent early

mornings so the dream was there but beyond... We did not even dare to

dream about that. The best of the rest was the target and they

achieved that with the my team. For once, a normal weekend where

something went properly so second place is great. To be in front of

Ferrari now in the constructors, that is our aim is that worked out

really well and we had a really fast car as well so a really good step

because I had a fast race car, it felt good. I nailed the set up so I

was happy with that so together with the team I managed to nail it

properly which is great. It all worked pretty well. It always pains

a driver to say best of the rest but a word on Sebastian Vettel, he gets

that fourth consecutive world title today. It is unbelievable. It is

well-deserved. He deserves it, doing a great job and his team deserves

it, they are doing a great job and it harmonises and work well

together. They were unbeatable again this year. We need to up our game

next year for closer times but then we are lacking consistency and we

fell off the kerb a bit. The strategy did not work out this

morning and then I said, on, guys we all agree to be brief today. Soft

tyres better than what we thought at the beginning of the race, a few

more laps which may have been the key at the end of the race but even

though I think the base was good, the tyres were good, we added to

what was on Friday and that was a good race. With my team-mates and

with Gutierrez, but I got on the podium. I told the guys about that

with the gearbox and then they thought it would clear but it looks

like it came back very quickly. Were you disappointed to put the soft

tyres on when you did? No, you have to protect against the safety car as

well so it's... You've got to run them for a few laps which we did. If

you put the primes on and go again, you are a bit exposed to the safety

car. It is nice to put the primes on but very smelly if the safety car

comes out so I still have a smile on my face I couldn't do any more

today, that's it. Pretty good this weekend but it is good we got some

points. You don't sound too happy, was it other than you expected? I

finished sixth, so... Where did it go wrong? The pit stop, it was so

hard to get past the Ferrari and I try to hang in there and get past

but in doing so, destroyed the tyres. A bit unfortunate but we have

got more races ahead. I was struggling a bit but when you lose

three kilos of weight in the condition we are, it is a lot on

your body. Three kilos? Yes, three kilos less than last race. Get the

fluids in. The car was quick around here and it is a shame we could not

get to cars in the points but that is the way it is sometimes. Where

did you struggle out there? I got hit on the first lap which is quite

hard in the side by Fernando, and got a puncture from it, I think. Is

that when you came in early? Yes, and I was on the medium tyre which

you need to run long so it destroyed that and put the option on, I think

I had done two it stops by 16, bit like the last two races and it

wasn't a very good afternoon, pretty much the same as Fernando's.

Sebastian Vettel and making history and David he did it all rights

today. An exceptional drive, he went down into the middle of the pack in

the have to overtake to make the strategy worked. He worked his way

forward to the front runners making their stop, he was still within a

pit stop of them said this was a dominant display. Up there with

Singapore. In his lifetime he will never forget India. The three races

here, he has been the winner all three, pole position all three.

Somewhere in the back of his mind he will think, what is my favourite

track? He will think of India, I'll quite sure. It has been a treasured

one. It is teamwork and read all when the fourth consecutive

constructors' title, they will be thrilled with that. That is the

backbone that has allowed him to be four time try the champion. Without

the great team and car and clearly Adrian Newey and the management of

Christian Horner, they have been able to create a group of people

that are working in perfect harmony. The main challenge is what you have

done four, how do you make it better? Can you do five? The rules

are changing next year so we wait to see what it will involve their that

there were other stars today in the race, Nico Rosberg was on the podium

but what about Romain Grosjean coming from 17th to space by third?

Without question driver of the day, Romain Grosjean past everyone and so

bitterly disappointed and bad decision into qualifying bet he made

good that mistake. Certainly did and we haven't finished the season yet,

still three races to go. We will be back for all the highlights of Abu

play for in the Constructors' Championship, a big fight going on
