Previously on a Formula One... My goodness! OK, Felipe, Valtteri is | :00:09. | :00:16.
faster than you. Lewis Hamilton wins in Malaysian! This is Formula One, | :00:17. | :00:19.
race 3: Bahrain. It has been a decade since F1 came | :00:20. | :01:33.
racing in the desert. The crowd in Bahrain have seen Formula One for | :01:34. | :01:36.
the first time. Judging by the noise, they like what they see! The | :01:37. | :01:41.
demand is of extreme temperature and dusty track have always been a test. | :01:42. | :01:48.
This year, something different. As the sun goes down, so willed | :01:49. | :01:52.
advisors. This desert race will play out under lights. -- so will the | :01:53. | :01:56.
visors. Mercedes have dominated this | :01:57. | :02:08.
season's first two races. Nico Rosberg wins the Australian Grand | :02:09. | :02:13.
Prix! Lewis Hamilton wins in Malaysia for Mercedes! But there is | :02:14. | :02:17.
nothing predictable in the new look Formula One. The engine is not | :02:18. | :02:22.
running smoothly. Does he have a problem? Success has always deserted | :02:23. | :02:27.
Lewis and Nico here, but it is not the same story for their main rival. | :02:28. | :02:34.
Yes, baby! Sebastian Vettel wins in Bahrain, back-to-back victories here | :02:35. | :02:40.
at the Sakhir circuit. Will the spotlight stay on Mercedes, or will | :02:41. | :02:44.
the rest come out of the shadows? It is lights on and away we go! | :02:45. | :02:50.
Hello and thanks for joining us for highlights of the tenth Bahrain | :02:51. | :02:56.
Grand Prix. Excuse the voice, a little croaky today, David will be | :02:57. | :03:01.
doing more of the talking! This marks a decade of racing and the | :03:02. | :03:04.
fact that we are racing and lights, but it is a landmark for Jenson | :03:05. | :03:08.
Button. He is celebrating his 250th Grand Prix, a long time since the | :03:09. | :03:13.
young 19-year-old started in Melbourne, and all the teams will be | :03:14. | :03:20.
wearing this in celebration of that. This rather swanky looking T-shirt. | :03:21. | :03:25.
It is no mean feat, only four other drivers have started more. It shows | :03:26. | :03:30.
the skill set that he has had behind the wheel, he understands it so much | :03:31. | :03:34.
more than just being a fast racing driver, truly professional in | :03:35. | :03:37.
preparation, working with sponsors and the media. He is not looking | :03:38. | :03:41.
close to the end at all, he is still a young guy, 34, so a huge day for | :03:42. | :03:46.
him, fantastic to see the whole paddock celebrating. A great track | :03:47. | :03:51.
to celebrate, the drivers seem to enjoy racing here, under lights not | :03:52. | :03:55.
much difference for them? It is a great track for him, he won in 2009. | :03:56. | :04:01.
Drivers tend to join the dots when they are driving, braking, apex, | :04:02. | :04:07.
throttle, and there are enough floodlights for them to enjoy the | :04:08. | :04:10.
race track, they are not enjoying the sunset or the stars above. In | :04:11. | :04:14.
terms of driving under lights, it makes it easier because it is | :04:15. | :04:18.
cooler. They will have to look out for falling temperatures as night | :04:19. | :04:23.
comes in. Exactly, that is one of the biggest temperatures, and tyre | :04:24. | :04:28.
temperatures will be affected. The Pirelli tyres are particularly peaky | :04:29. | :04:30.
in terms of surface temperature. We will see quite a drop-off, as much | :04:31. | :04:38.
as 15 degrees. This is round three in a calendar of 19 races. A few new | :04:39. | :04:40.
events to look out for this year... Nico Rosberg heads the driver | :04:41. | :05:02.
standings after two events, Lewis Hamilton is 18 points adrift. The | :05:03. | :05:09.
two McLaren boys are behind Fernando Alonso. | :05:10. | :05:20.
The Silver Arrows dominates the constructors' table. Red Bull are | :05:21. | :05:25.
currently occupying sixth position. That definitely was not the start of | :05:26. | :05:34.
the season they wanted. No, we know with the regulation change that the | :05:35. | :05:39.
past has no bearing on how the car will go. They have won four straight | :05:40. | :05:43.
World Championships, but the interaction of the sashay and the | :05:44. | :05:50.
power unit is not as good as that of Mercedes and Ferrari. -- chassis. | :05:51. | :05:54.
But the change from where they were in preseason to wear they have | :05:55. | :05:58.
delivered on track has been huge, so much more to come this year. An | :05:59. | :06:02.
interesting weekend, Jean Todt is here, the Ferrari chairman, Luca di | :06:03. | :06:06.
Montezemolo, he is calling for change. The think we will see any | :06:07. | :06:11.
changes? I think it is for very premature for changes to be made on | :06:12. | :06:15.
the basis that someone has done a better job with the regulations! All | :06:16. | :06:18.
the teams were part of the process, they knew the regulations were | :06:19. | :06:21.
changing and that their engine manufacturers would play a large | :06:22. | :06:26.
part in that. We have to acknowledge what a great job Mercedes have done, | :06:27. | :06:29.
and we have to see what flexibility there is from the FIA to allow | :06:30. | :06:33.
Ferrari and Renault to make changes to close the gap. You know, it is | :06:34. | :06:37.
never going to be a case of everyone having the same power or fuel | :06:38. | :06:40.
efficiency, but at the moment the gap is a bit too big. It seems | :06:41. | :06:46.
Mercedes will dominate here, the team will suit their drivers, do you | :06:47. | :06:50.
think? Reflected by their performance in practice and the | :06:51. | :06:54.
first two Grands Prix of the season, interesting to see whether it will | :06:55. | :06:58.
be Nico or Lewis, depending on your personal favourite. They will be | :06:59. | :07:02.
doing a lot of winning this year. It was a desert duel for Mercedes in | :07:03. | :07:05.
qualifying, some surprising was behind front row. Lee McKenzie has | :07:06. | :07:11.
the story of qualifying. Adrian Sutil and Romain Grosjean | :07:12. | :07:13.
went to the stewards for this incident. They found the Lotus | :07:14. | :07:17.
driver was forced into a evasive action, Sutil was given a five place | :07:18. | :07:20.
penalty, which means he starts from the back of the pack. Sebastian | :07:21. | :07:25.
Vettel could not get his Red Bull working properly. He said the car | :07:26. | :07:29.
was not quick enough and did not make the top ten shoot out, ending | :07:30. | :07:34.
up 11. But he makes Daniel Ricciardo had no such problems, not only | :07:35. | :07:38.
making it into Q3, but he put his Renault powered Red Bull into third | :07:39. | :07:42.
place. He does carry a ten place grid penalty from Malaysia after his | :07:43. | :07:45.
unsafe release into the pit lane means he will start from 13. Ferrari | :07:46. | :07:50.
have been struggling throughout the weekend, Fernando Alonso could only | :07:51. | :07:54.
manage tenth after an engine issue. Kimi Raikkonen tried everything, | :07:55. | :07:58.
putting it into sixth, at qualifying his team-mate for the first time. | :07:59. | :08:03.
Williams have been rejuvenated this season, and an impressive lap from | :08:04. | :08:07.
Valtteri Bottas means he qualified on the second row. That left | :08:08. | :08:11.
Mercedes, dominating the weekend, qualifying was no different. A | :08:12. | :08:15.
mistake from Lewis Hamilton meant he abandoned his quick final lap, and | :08:16. | :08:20.
he stuck with second, but team-mate Nico Rosberg had already done enough | :08:21. | :08:22.
to put his Silver Arrow into pole position. So Nico Rosberg takes his | :08:23. | :08:27.
second consecutive pole at the circuit, the first time this year | :08:28. | :08:31.
there has been an all Mercedes front row. Valtteri Bottas moves up to | :08:32. | :08:35.
third, Sergio Perez gives Force India their best qualifying enormous | :08:36. | :08:41.
two years. Kimi Raikkonen is fifth, Button on his 250th race is sixth. | :08:42. | :08:45.
Massa and Magnussen on the fourth row, Alonso and Vettel behind. | :08:46. | :08:50.
Hulkenberg start outside the top ten for the first time in eight races, | :08:51. | :08:55.
rookie Kvyat is 12. Ricciardo's penalty brings out in 30 alongside | :08:56. | :09:00.
former team a Vergne. The two Lotus cars had a tough time, 16th and | :09:01. | :09:06.
17th. Adrian Sutil, with his penalty, starts from the back of the | :09:07. | :09:10.
grid. Just after qualifying, we learned | :09:11. | :09:13.
from Adrian Newey that Sebastian Vettel's problems have started to | :09:14. | :09:17.
occur in that uncharacteristic spin in free practice three. He spun the | :09:18. | :09:22.
car on the exit of turn one leading into two, this is the legacy of them | :09:23. | :09:26.
having some difficulties controlling the amount of torque the cars are | :09:27. | :09:30.
delivering this year. Very uncharacteristic, and stopping in | :09:31. | :09:34.
the gravel, the car overheated, and Adrian Newey explained there was an | :09:35. | :09:37.
issue with the waste gate on the turbo, which apparently cost them a | :09:38. | :09:43.
couple of tenths of a second. There are a couple of drivers who seem to | :09:44. | :09:47.
be misplaced on the grid, this is a place where you can come through. | :09:48. | :09:50.
Nico Hulkenberg, should we be looking out for him? We should | :09:51. | :09:54.
certainly be looking out for him, he was on a lap that would match his | :09:55. | :10:00.
team-mate but ran wide in turn 11. We know he has got great speed, I | :10:01. | :10:04.
would expect him to be moving forward. Look out for Daniel | :10:05. | :10:08.
Ricciardo, picking up a penalty from the previous race. Both Red Bulls | :10:09. | :10:12.
will, in fact, move forward, but Nico Hulkenberg could be the biggest | :10:13. | :10:17.
mover. Tom Clarkson is in the pit lane, what can you tell us about | :10:18. | :10:21.
strategy? Well, Suzi, we are looking between two and three stops, and | :10:22. | :10:26.
which one you choose will depend on traffic and tyre were. Take a look | :10:27. | :10:32.
at this, some corner of a foreign field that is for ever England, | :10:33. | :10:34.
because the asphalt here in Bahrain is made from granite imported from | :10:35. | :10:38.
Shropshire, very abrasive. That causes the drivers problems around | :10:39. | :10:42.
the four or five Corners where they are accelerating from low speed, and | :10:43. | :10:47.
it is easy to spin of the wheels. In extremist, that could force a pit | :10:48. | :10:50.
stop this evening, and the other thing to consider is fuel | :10:51. | :10:55.
consumption. None of these cars will be able to complete the race without | :10:56. | :11:02.
fuel saving, so how and when they do that could be crucial. It is | :11:03. | :11:07.
interesting that last weekend Lewis Hamilton had slightly better fuel | :11:08. | :11:09.
consumption than team-mate Nico Rosberg, and that could prove | :11:10. | :11:13.
crucial this evening. Intriguing stuff, we can hear from the drivers | :11:14. | :11:18.
now. Stunning job in qualifying, sights firmly set on getting onto | :11:19. | :11:24.
the podium in third? Will you get in amongst the Mercedes? I think it is | :11:25. | :11:28.
a factor, the Mercedes is really too quick, but I think if we can put | :11:29. | :11:33.
everything together today we will have a good chance to fight for a | :11:34. | :11:38.
podium. That should be the goal. We saw a few people doing a lot of | :11:39. | :11:42.
starts, anything particular about this track that means you need to | :11:43. | :11:46.
prepare more for this? We did like normal, two starts, normally getting | :11:47. | :11:51.
all the info from those two, it should be OK. This could be a good | :11:52. | :11:56.
night for Williams and at these lights. Yeah, sure, we will see how | :11:57. | :12:03.
the race will go this evening, and definitely it will be better, but | :12:04. | :12:07.
not so easy for the tyres, so I hope we can have good pace, you know, and | :12:08. | :12:12.
the race will be difficult, so many cars on a similar pace. Will it come | :12:13. | :12:17.
down to tyre management? Very important. How will you approach | :12:18. | :12:24.
this Grand Prix? Well, you know yourself it is a long race, a lot of | :12:25. | :12:28.
things can happen, we have got a decent package and should be | :12:29. | :12:32.
competitive in the race. We will be trying to look haired and get a | :12:33. | :12:37.
couple of these guys. Strategy will be interesting, we will see what we | :12:38. | :12:42.
can do. Best of luck. After the performance of the car this week, a | :12:43. | :12:46.
little disappointing to be starting further back, but you must be | :12:47. | :12:50.
confident of moving through the field? Yeah, we have a strong and | :12:51. | :12:54.
quick car, like you say, very encouraging. I just need a good | :12:55. | :12:59.
start, a clean first lap and we will have a strong race. We are aiming to | :13:00. | :13:04.
be well into the points, obviously, it is hard to predict, but we want | :13:05. | :13:10.
to be further up for sure. Yesterday Mercedes were a league above the | :13:11. | :13:16.
scrap, the second row was fascinating, Valtteri Bottas and | :13:17. | :13:19.
Sergio Perez equalling their best ever spot. Can they converted to a | :13:20. | :13:23.
podium? The Bahrain Grand Prix, Lee and Tom in the pit lane, David and | :13:24. | :13:25.
Ben are your commentators. Lights out and away we go, who is it | :13:26. | :13:50.
going to be off the front row? Rosberg trying to cover to Hamilton, | :13:51. | :13:54.
Hamilton on the inside. But as making a good start, but Hamilton | :13:55. | :13:58.
will lead into the first corner, what a crucial getaway for Lewis | :13:59. | :14:01.
Hamilton as Massa makes an excellent start. Massa was the first of the | :14:02. | :14:07.
two Williams, going past errors in the Force India. Riding on board | :14:08. | :14:11.
with Jenson Button, that is the battle up front. Rosberg going | :14:12. | :14:14.
around the outside of Lewis Hamilton, they almost touch! We just | :14:15. | :14:18.
lose sight of them for a moment, but they most managed to get away with | :14:19. | :14:24.
it, Hamilton in front, so crucial to have that advantage. Jenson Button | :14:25. | :14:27.
in the middle of the fight there, riding on board with him. An | :14:28. | :14:32.
incredible display between the two Mercedes, Rosberg testing how kind | :14:33. | :14:35.
his team-mate was going to be, trying to go around the outside | :14:36. | :14:40.
through turn four, and he found out exactly how badly Lewis Hamilton | :14:41. | :14:44.
once the victory. Lock up from Hulkenberg will cost him time, the | :14:45. | :14:48.
Ferrari alongside him, Alonso gets passed, head of Raikkonen. Raikkonen | :14:49. | :14:53.
definitely very slow away, problems for Vergne, he has got a punctured | :14:54. | :14:58.
right rear, there may have been contact with another car. | :14:59. | :15:09.
Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo both trying to make their | :15:10. | :15:17.
progress. Therefore, currently in 11th. Ricciardo is in 12th. | :15:18. | :15:22.
Magnussen is in between the two. He has been passed by Vettel and he has | :15:23. | :15:28.
managed to gain a little edge. Let's listen in. RADIO: | :15:29. | :16:09.
up under attack from Hulkenberg. Getting into position on Alonso. | :16:10. | :16:15.
This is coming in to an overtaking opportunity. We had troubles with | :16:16. | :16:22.
the sound. Rosberg is in second place. Fully be Massa is in third. | :16:23. | :16:28.
Looking at who has gone up two has gone down, Vergne is the big loser. | :16:29. | :16:34.
Back into the pits. It is the second race in a role that he has had | :16:35. | :16:38.
trouble is on the opening lap. And the Frenchman is in difficulty. | :16:39. | :16:43.
TRANSLATION: And do not know who it was. Absolutely mental. Jean-Eric | :16:44. | :16:50.
Vergne, understandably very unhappy with the way things been going. He | :16:51. | :16:56.
had to settle himself and try to get back into this race. Hamilton, just | :16:57. | :17:01.
a second advantage over Nico Rosberg. But behind them, Massa on | :17:02. | :17:08.
track. Both Williams running in the top five, chased by Button. | :17:09. | :17:13.
Sebastian Vettel they are, currently running in 10th position. But he has | :17:14. | :17:20.
not made much ground. Remember, he is on a different tyre to everyone | :17:21. | :17:24.
else. All the others are on soft tyres. Magnussen is behind. Vettel | :17:25. | :17:33.
can see the silver McLaren. And there are still some battling going | :17:34. | :17:37.
on. It seems amazing. There must be a problem with Grosjean's car. | :17:38. | :17:44.
Another pace of the Lotus has not been great but it is surprising to | :17:45. | :17:49.
see him fighting with the other cars. -- I know the pace. They are | :17:50. | :17:54.
so reliant on recoverable energy that if there is any friction, the | :17:55. | :18:00.
system gives in. You are left with the power from the engine alone. It | :18:01. | :18:04.
remains to be seen what the issue is but not where you would expect Lotus | :18:05. | :18:12.
to be, battling with the Mauritius. Alonso and Roz very close together. | :18:13. | :18:25.
-- Rosberg. Applicant was an -- I think it was a fantastic display of | :18:26. | :18:29.
instinctive hunger. Nico Rosberg, sneaking through on the fourth turn, | :18:30. | :18:33.
they might have given him space, we team-mate, but Lewis Hamilton drove | :18:34. | :18:40.
him over. Quite a clear indication. We see that amazing start from fully | :18:41. | :18:43.
paymaster. Getting itself into third place. That is where we expected to | :18:44. | :18:48.
see his team-mate running. But currently, he is running around in | :18:49. | :18:53.
fifth. Kimi Raikkonen got squeezed out by Alonso and I think that is | :18:54. | :18:56.
what he was complaining about. He got a shunt from Alonso. And it | :18:57. | :19:02.
looks like the Red Bulls were going into it as well. Saying, and think | :19:03. | :19:15.
we may be old karting bodies but I want this championship. Massa, on | :19:16. | :19:19.
the left, finding a sponsor down the middle of the racetrack. A bit of a | :19:20. | :19:24.
lock from Perez. All this contact, the might of been contact with the | :19:25. | :19:35.
front wing of Jenson Button. Let's watch Alonso's start with regards to | :19:36. | :19:43.
Raikkonen up ahead. Massa, fantastic of the line. Alonso, trying to spot | :19:44. | :19:49.
gaps. He is going down the middle. Alonso, presumably, gives light in | :19:50. | :19:54.
the squeeze but that looks like he caught him sleeping. Let's watch | :19:55. | :20:01.
Hamilton's start. If Rosberg had had somebody else inside, would he be | :20:02. | :20:08.
more aggressive? You have to not treat your team-mate any | :20:09. | :20:11.
differently. You do not make contact with any car. You could damage your | :20:12. | :20:14.
own. Nicole was brave in Malaysia down the inside, but not quite so | :20:15. | :20:18.
brave there with his team-mate. Here goes for the outside. Some guys have | :20:19. | :20:24.
been able to overtake there but Lewis says, yeah, I am using all of | :20:25. | :20:30.
the road so forget it. Classic racing from both. Another replay. | :20:31. | :20:36.
Can we see any more contact? Ricciardo, being pushed over the | :20:37. | :20:41.
curb. And there was contact on the inside of the curb. That was | :20:42. | :20:45.
Magnussen and Raikkonen. He might have damaged the underside of his | :20:46. | :20:48.
car. I think Raikkonen was complaining about Magnussen rather | :20:49. | :20:50.
than his team-mate. It seems like a fair comment. You are utterly right. | :20:51. | :21:05.
Mercedes, beginning to pull away. Hulkenberg has got past Alonso. Just | :21:06. | :21:12.
getting past him. Raikkonen next, chased by Vettel and Magnussen. | :21:13. | :21:25.
Daniil Kvyat complaining that he has too much from blocking with his car. | :21:26. | :21:30.
Hulkenberg, not only does he have a straight line advantage... RADIO: | :21:31. | :21:39.
you are saving more fuel than your team-mate. Continue to savour. It is | :21:40. | :21:44.
almost as easy to see Lewis or Hamilton as it is to say, your | :21:45. | :21:48.
team-mate, but it shows you that all but they try to create between | :21:49. | :21:56.
themselves. This was Hulkenberg. I was going to say that he had more | :21:57. | :21:59.
straight-line speed than Alonso anyway. He said he did not have the | :22:00. | :22:06.
power and that was the problem in qualifying. They changed the exhaust | :22:07. | :22:12.
manifold overnight. What have you got for us, Tom? It was very | :22:13. | :22:17.
difficult to see from the replays, the amount of damage to either | :22:18. | :22:21.
Jenson Button's car or Kevin Magnussen. But McLaren are equally | :22:22. | :22:28.
worried. Have seen their chief race engineer heading into the garage, | :22:29. | :22:32.
looking concerned. They are equally anxious. A little luck from | :22:33. | :22:38.
Sebastian Vettel and Ricciardo. He locks the rear, and he cannot hold | :22:39. | :22:42.
the car. And he may lose another place if he is not careful. They do | :22:43. | :22:48.
not think that Daniil Kvyat will get him but he might because he has the | :22:49. | :22:52.
momentum. Then the inside he goes. Is he going to get past the Daniel | :22:53. | :22:58.
Ricciardo? And is a little bit of caution there, I think. Ricciardo | :22:59. | :23:04.
holds on. Which are driving from this inexperienced driver. There was | :23:05. | :23:09.
an opportunity. -- mature driving. There was some risk, that he could | :23:10. | :23:19.
have T-bone and the card. But he had a goal. He knows he is struggling. | :23:20. | :23:28.
-- t-boned the car. But look how far back you came from. He went for the | :23:29. | :23:32.
element of surprise and ultimately ended up scaring himself. Good | :23:33. | :23:37.
awareness from Magnussen, we read that the car was on his inside. | :23:38. | :23:41.
Managing to stay out wide and given space. Sutil of the other car, -- | :23:42. | :23:48.
was the other car on the medium tyres. Switching now too soft tyres. | :23:49. | :23:52.
I wonder if Sebastian Vettel me coming soon to do the same? -- may | :23:53. | :24:02.
come in soon. Certainly, we will have to wait to see what these guys | :24:03. | :24:06.
do. Two stops or three stops? Vettel, and therefore the moment, | :24:07. | :24:09.
chasing the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen. -- out there for the | :24:10. | :24:21.
moment. Still side-by-side but Bottas fights off Button. He shows | :24:22. | :24:26.
him how to do it a Button, in his 250th Grand Prix. This is crucial. | :24:27. | :24:31.
These guys were Evelyn Matthei in qualifying but Sergio Perez has | :24:32. | :24:35.
passed the Williams and takes advantage of Button's initial | :24:36. | :24:41.
movement. In the beginning, he was almost too compliant. It was | :24:42. | :24:47.
Hulkenberg, sorry! Button left the door open. And then he decided he | :24:48. | :24:51.
could fight for it and in doing so, he made himself slower. Maybe some | :24:52. | :24:59.
inexperience from Bottas. Massa is the leader of the two Williams. | :25:00. | :25:03.
Let's look at how this began. Hulkenberg in the background. Look | :25:04. | :25:11.
at the brake dust coming off. Button, he may be 250 Grand Prix | :25:12. | :25:16.
old, but he is still willing to have a go. And then Button takes the | :25:17. | :25:25.
line. That affects his drive. You can see a little wobble as he tries | :25:26. | :25:30.
to put the traction down. Vettel, chasing Raikkonen. RADIO: | :25:31. | :25:54.
Perez is going to take the place. Credit where it is due. A fantastic | :25:55. | :26:02.
performance this weekend. That was from a long way back! He could have | :26:03. | :26:06.
ended in tears. And it came good. Sergio Perez had a strong race here | :26:07. | :26:09.
last year. One of his best races. But he has shown tremendous form | :26:10. | :26:20.
this weekend. A feisty drive. He had a terrible start to the season. This | :26:21. | :26:25.
is the running to turn 11. He does not manage it and then the replay of | :26:26. | :26:29.
coming back around the inside. That allows him to pick his line. A | :26:30. | :26:34.
wonderful coroner around the back of the circuit. And this was her Perez | :26:35. | :26:44.
got past. And it was textbook. -- how Perez. Massa tries to see if he | :26:45. | :26:50.
can hang in there but it is all over. Adrian Sutil is pulling over. | :26:51. | :26:57.
It has been a miserable weekend for him. He is missing something on his | :26:58. | :27:02.
rear tyre. There is no marking. As he rubbed up on something? That is | :27:03. | :27:07.
unusual. Normally the markings are clearly displayed. But not from the | :27:08. | :27:14.
side. It was black sidewall only. Was the contact? Let's take a look. | :27:15. | :27:26.
Side-by-side with Bianchi. That was a great spot. I have a 5-year-old | :27:27. | :27:39.
and they do a lot of colouring in. That was after, the Marussia got | :27:40. | :27:47.
damage. Bianchi lost control and smacked into the side. Sutil already | :27:48. | :27:52.
had a penalty this weekend. Expect to see him up at the stewards again. | :27:53. | :28:00.
The Mercedes leaving the Grand Prix by a -- leading the Grand Prix by a | :28:01. | :28:10.
country mile. RADIO: Sebastian, lets Daniel go through, please. He is | :28:11. | :28:15.
quicker than you. Please let him by. That was interesting. A very cool | :28:16. | :28:18.
Daniel Ricciardo asking for something to be done. That is what | :28:19. | :28:24.
the team wanted, someone who is not scared to say what he thinks. They | :28:25. | :28:31.
want someone who has got hunger and fire. Delivered with a calm head. | :28:32. | :28:41.
Let me go, I am faster. The tyre was changed on Bianchi's car and he is | :28:42. | :28:45.
on his way again. Side-by-side, yes, we are looking at the battle. | :28:46. | :28:49.
Rosberg has got past Hamilton. No, he hasn't! Wonderful racing. Not | :28:50. | :28:56.
only did he retake it, that is an equivalent of a slap in the face, | :28:57. | :29:00.
cutting across the front wing of Rosberg. They have to bring Hamilton | :29:01. | :29:07.
in the slap. He has got near to the end of the light of these tyres. If | :29:08. | :29:11.
they do not bring him in first, he is going to be frustrated. Are they | :29:12. | :29:17.
going to be sticking to a similar pit stop strategy? Rosberg seems to | :29:18. | :29:21.
be making his tyres gold that bit further. This is what we want to | :29:22. | :29:29.
see. Two top team-mates being allowed to fight each other. That is | :29:30. | :29:33.
what we're seeing. They were very close to touching. RADIO: | :29:34. | :30:20.
Rosberg. That was close to contact. And although the expression. -- I | :30:21. | :30:22.
don't know the expression. This is another replay. The PRS was in | :30:23. | :30:26.
operation. In fact, this is him having another go now. He has locked | :30:27. | :30:31.
up but has he got in front? Yes, no? Hamilton cannot fend him off. | :30:32. | :30:35.
Rosberg has got past. Rosberg takes the lead but will he keep it? He | :30:36. | :30:42.
moves inside. Over the dirt and dust. Hamilton will try to go around | :30:43. | :30:46.
the outside and cut back on the exit. This is amazing racing between | :30:47. | :30:50.
the two Mercedes team-mates. Side-by-side. Hamilton retakes the | :30:51. | :30:57.
place, retaking the lead. And there is nothing to choose between them. | :30:58. | :31:06.
That is how hungry they both our. This is brilliant! Rosberg throwing | :31:07. | :31:10.
everything at him, but he got on the dirt, and that is probably why he | :31:11. | :31:14.
did not have the grip at the next corner, and the driver has to think | :31:15. | :31:18.
about so many things in a battle like this and still have to look | :31:19. | :31:22.
after their tyres. They are 35 seconds ahead of anyone else, they | :31:23. | :31:25.
don't have to worry about being caught by the opposition. This is | :31:26. | :31:30.
not looking at the tyres, this is looking after the man behind the | :31:31. | :31:35.
steering wheel. I wonder how Toto Wolff and Paddy Lowe will feel now! | :31:36. | :31:45.
This is what they live for, it is not just having the fastest racing | :31:46. | :31:50.
car, they want to see racing. Rosberg is in better shape on his | :31:51. | :31:55.
fuel. Hamilton coming in this lap. First pit stop, crucial, the new | :31:56. | :31:59.
tyre will be worth a lot, and it will be difficult for Rosberg to | :32:00. | :32:04.
come out when he makes his pit stop. Let's watch the stock, it is | :32:05. | :32:09.
crucial, every 100th could make a difference. It is a lovely, lovely | :32:10. | :32:14.
stop for Lewis Hamilton, on his way once again with the new tyres, so he | :32:15. | :32:21.
will be very fast on his next lap. Using the RS, push hard now for two | :32:22. | :32:27.
laps, then we go to prime tyre, alternative strategy. -- using DRS. | :32:28. | :32:33.
This is going to be interesting, we will not know how it will work out | :32:34. | :32:36.
until towards the end of the Grand Prix. Take another look at... This | :32:37. | :32:42.
is darts a moment ago going past Fernando Alonso into sixth | :32:43. | :32:50.
position. -- Perez. Is he going to be switching on to the medium | :32:51. | :32:54.
compound, Rosberg? That is what we think from the writing on the side | :32:55. | :33:00.
wall, let's take a look. It is indeed, so a completely different | :33:01. | :33:05.
strategy for Rosberg, he would be harder tyre on earlier in the race, | :33:06. | :33:10.
and that will make life exciting. Two tenths slower on the pit stop, | :33:11. | :33:14.
Hamilton will be a head, watch him on the right, the gap has opened | :33:15. | :33:18.
up. But they are on different strategies. The gap between them | :33:19. | :33:22.
will open up on this next lap, because according to Pirelli the new | :33:23. | :33:27.
softer versus the new medium, the difference is about 1.1 seconds on | :33:28. | :33:33.
that first lap. We know Nico Rosberg will lose now, but the gap will | :33:34. | :33:38.
stabilise, so he is going to drop back quite a lot during this next | :33:39. | :33:43.
stint. Riding on board with Sebastian Vettel, he is behind Kimi | :33:44. | :33:47.
Raikkonen here on the soft tyre, both of them on the soft tyre, but | :33:48. | :33:52.
this is a relatively new set. As the in battle, so he should be in better | :33:53. | :33:57.
shape with his tyres. -- a relatively new set for Sebastian | :33:58. | :34:05.
Vettel. Ferrari losing a bit of time through turn four. This will be a | :34:06. | :34:11.
long stint on the prime tyres. A long stint, that is uprising, they | :34:12. | :34:15.
obviously feel it is going to give them some pretty good performance. | :34:16. | :34:21.
-- that is surprising. The cooler conditions will come into play as | :34:22. | :34:27.
the track rubbers in. That will reduce the gap between the prime and | :34:28. | :34:31.
option. Such a lead that Mercedes Grand Prix have, they could take | :34:32. | :34:35.
their pit stops and still come out in first and second place. Two | :34:36. | :34:39.
things about splitting strategy - one, it states pressure of the | :34:40. | :34:45.
debrief afterwards, because you do not have like-for-like racing, and | :34:46. | :34:48.
there will be tension between the two drivers. The team have been | :34:49. | :34:51.
fantastic in allowing them to go wheel to wheel, but if this finishes | :34:52. | :34:56.
up with Lewis winning the Grand Prix, and that is a big if with a | :34:57. | :34:59.
long way to go, but if it does, expect knee go to be somewhat frosty | :35:00. | :35:08.
with his old buddy. -- Nico. It is always going to be a great area, | :35:09. | :35:15.
looking at the fuel use, certainly Vettel right on the limit of what he | :35:16. | :35:22.
can use. This is the reverse of last week, when you add Bottas being | :35:23. | :35:26.
told, saying, I am faster than my team-mate. It shows what difference | :35:27. | :35:31.
a week can make, having your car working for you, Massa faster than | :35:32. | :35:35.
Bottas, and I would not be surprised if he has a radio message, come on, | :35:36. | :35:43.
we are being pushed by Hulkenberg and Perez, let me go. This is into | :35:44. | :35:48.
turn 12, where he passed the McLaren in winter testing. 13 is too long, | :35:49. | :35:53.
much tighter in the apex, a better drive off the corner, so will you | :35:54. | :35:57.
try to make a pass into the last turn or wait for the DRS? Down the | :35:58. | :36:03.
inside goes Sebastian Vettel, outbreak in the Ferrari, I am not | :36:04. | :36:07.
sure Kimi Raikkonen was expecting that. Massa and Bottas almost | :36:08. | :36:14.
touching, I am not sure what is going on there! The Force India will | :36:15. | :36:23.
come back at them. Williams versus Force India, this is for third | :36:24. | :36:26.
place, very different to what we have seen in recent years, | :36:27. | :36:31.
particularly from Williams. Force India have had some good results | :36:32. | :36:34.
here, Paul di Resta was a fine for here last season, but they will have | :36:35. | :36:42.
to cope with the Williams today. What a performance from Force India | :36:43. | :36:47.
and Williams, Williams at the World Championships in their DNA, but | :36:48. | :36:50.
Force India, a small privateer team based at Silverstone. Great stuff, | :36:51. | :36:57.
isn't it? It is 11 years to the day that Jordan, which was the origins | :36:58. | :37:02.
of the Force India team, 11 years... Never heard of them! 11 | :37:03. | :37:06.
years since they took their last victory, I wonder if the anniversary | :37:07. | :37:09.
will provide them with a special result. I would like to box now if | :37:10. | :37:18.
possible. Gosh. Very early. Three stops if he is. Relatively early | :37:19. | :37:23.
even for three stops, he will have to do a long stint somewhere along | :37:24. | :37:28.
the line, maybe the harder tyre will serve him better. Our Williams | :37:29. | :37:32.
getting ready? I cannot see the Williams boys. That has not been | :37:33. | :37:40.
accepted. He is coming in, the team will have to get out in the pit | :37:41. | :37:44.
lane, they are not out yet! Hulkenberg has the DRS on Massa, | :37:45. | :37:51.
Hulkenberg moves to the outside, and Perez is trapped in behind ready to | :37:52. | :37:56.
pick up the pieces if anything goes wrong. Hulkenberg qualified much | :37:57. | :38:00.
further back than Perez, he ended up losing out, Massa knows he is | :38:01. | :38:06.
there. Hulkenberg goes to the inside, almost over the white line, | :38:07. | :38:12.
but he will lose momentum. Watch Perez. They will be side by side, | :38:13. | :38:17.
team-mates battling again, Perez gets past Hulkenberg, because | :38:18. | :38:23.
Hulkenberg tried so hard to get past the Williams. They actually touched, | :38:24. | :38:28.
with his team-mate Jenson Button last year, so Hulkenberg had to go | :38:29. | :38:31.
for it here, questionable whether Massa made a double move to defend | :38:32. | :38:37.
and then again, forcing Hulkenberg momentarily off the circuit. | :38:38. | :38:43.
This is great stuff, isn't it? Early and racing, DRS in operation for | :38:44. | :38:48.
both Force Indias as Massa wonders which of them will attack him next. | :38:49. | :38:55.
-- -- brilliant racing. This is where Hulkenberg made a mistake in | :38:56. | :38:58.
qualifying, he keeps it is nice and neat now. Remind ourselves, | :38:59. | :39:03.
Hulkenberg came from 11 on the grid. Perez was on the second row, so a | :39:04. | :39:08.
strong drive by Hulkenberg, but he will be furious he lost that | :39:09. | :39:12.
position, it could be crucial. He did not leave a space there, he | :39:13. | :39:18.
pushed me right off. That is a reference to Massa. Jenson Button | :39:19. | :39:22.
was upset with Sergio Perez last year, remember that little incident | :39:23. | :39:27.
when Perez ran into Button at turn four. We are riding with Daniel | :39:28. | :39:33.
Ricciardo. He is on the harder tyres. DRS is not working. A couple | :39:34. | :39:42.
of drivers are reporting that today, Button is in seventh. Look at the | :39:43. | :39:47.
oversteer on Raikkonen off the high-speed chicane of seven. Alonso | :39:48. | :39:53.
had a DRS failure, the wing jammed open completely. I wonder what it | :39:54. | :39:57.
is, maybe it is the sand in the environment that gives them | :39:58. | :40:00.
difficulties. They have to run slightly different air filters for | :40:01. | :40:03.
the engines and the like, more dusty in this environment. Maybe that is | :40:04. | :40:08.
the answer, but Daniel Ricciardo has not found a way past Raikkonen yet. | :40:09. | :40:15.
Vettel is ahead of them, so although Vettel allowed Ricciardo through | :40:16. | :40:19.
earlier, because of the earlier pit stop, it really gains you track | :40:20. | :40:23.
position. He may end up paying a price later in the race. Watching | :40:24. | :40:27.
the race upfront between Hamilton and Rosberg, Hamilton is two tense | :40:28. | :40:34.
quicker, less than I would expect from the difference in tyres, and | :40:35. | :40:38.
now this is a question of whether Hamilton can preserve the option | :40:39. | :40:42.
tyres to go along enough... Massa goes defensive on Perez. A very | :40:43. | :40:47.
deliberate line of the Force India, trying to turn in wide and lay down | :40:48. | :40:52.
the street possible. He has locked up! Meanwhile, an attack on Massa | :40:53. | :41:00.
from Perez. Is he going to have a look at getting alongside him? | :41:01. | :41:06.
Hulkenberg is right behind him, Perez side by side with Massa, and | :41:07. | :41:10.
Sergio Perez driving out of his skin this weekend, and Hulkenberg has got | :41:11. | :41:15.
the chance to nip past the Williams as well here. But Sergio Augero is | :41:16. | :41:20.
fought for that. Does Hulkenberg have the power to outright the | :41:21. | :41:26.
Williams? Ears on the outside down to turn nine, good clean racing. -- | :41:27. | :41:32.
he is. He gets sideways on the exit, that has cost and speed, and the | :41:33. | :41:36.
Massa will come back at him towards turn 11. But Hulkenberg can just | :41:37. | :41:44.
bend him off. Who said this was taxi driving?! This is racing! This | :41:45. | :41:49.
circuit, in its tenth ear, has given us some great battles, none better | :41:50. | :41:53.
than we are seeing right now, this is a circuit where they are few will | :41:54. | :42:00.
limited as well. This is Ricciardo, DRS wide-open, mocks the front left. | :42:01. | :42:05.
He would be thinking, oh, no, did they brush wheels? That was so | :42:06. | :42:11.
close. Raikkonen was presumably aware. Look at this again. Having a | :42:12. | :42:17.
glance in his mirror as he leaves the door open to avoid contact. | :42:18. | :42:22.
Working at the wheel through turn two, that will have flat spotted his | :42:23. | :42:29.
front left, Daniel Ricciardo. Look at that! How close do you want to | :42:30. | :42:35.
be? I think Ricciardo can go over to Kimi and say, thanks, mate, I needed | :42:36. | :42:41.
that space. This is the replay of how Perez got past Massa. This move | :42:42. | :42:45.
has worked for him so many times on this circuit, he straightens the car | :42:46. | :42:50.
on the exit of four and get a massive drive through five into the | :42:51. | :42:56.
high-speed chicane. Tom. I think the fuel figures are fascinating, | :42:57. | :43:00.
talking about the Mercedes drivers, both have used about 50% available, | :43:01. | :43:04.
and they are going to use less fuel in the second half of the race as | :43:05. | :43:09.
the car gets lighter. Bottas trying to go past Ricciardo, he suddenly | :43:10. | :43:14.
shot off there! I am not quite sure what happened. We will get a replay | :43:15. | :43:20.
of that and be able to dissect it. He was on the attack, he had DRS, he | :43:21. | :43:26.
was side by side with Ricciardo. I think Ricciardo did not move over | :43:27. | :43:30.
particularly. OK, does he put a wheel on the white line? He took | :43:31. | :43:34.
avoiding action, almost looking like he was going to run into the back of | :43:35. | :43:40.
the Ferrari, he got off the brakes. What was he doing?! Let me know what | :43:41. | :43:44.
he did, we will get straight onto Charlie. No, watch your television, | :43:45. | :43:50.
he's not talking about the Red Bull, he is talking about the Ferrari! | :43:51. | :43:57.
Kimi braking caught him out. Lewis, you are safe on fuel, no more lift | :43:58. | :44:03.
and ghost. I heard you, looking after the tyres! He is being very | :44:04. | :44:10.
cautious, he knows he is in a race, Sergio Perez coming in on this lap | :44:11. | :44:15.
from third place. Remember, a very interesting tussle between the two | :44:16. | :44:18.
Force India team mates, Perez currently third, Hulkenberg in | :44:19. | :44:22.
fourth place, 1.5 seconds behind him. Button is now in fifth place, | :44:23. | :44:27.
Vettel sixth, Ricciardo seventh, and it looks as if the top seven cars in | :44:28. | :44:32.
this Grand Prix are trying to do it on two stops. Massa, I think, will | :44:33. | :44:37.
be on a three-stop race, he is trying to get past Ricciardo. Felipe | :44:38. | :44:43.
Massa in ninth place currently. This should be the opportunity to get | :44:44. | :44:46.
past the Red Bull. His team-mates did the same last time, is it just | :44:47. | :44:52.
as easy? DRS open, and again he just drives past the Red Bull. Nothing | :44:53. | :44:56.
Ricciardo can do about it. We expect the Williams to have to make another | :44:57. | :45:01.
pit stop. Ricciardo may be trying to go to the end. Outcomes Perez, where | :45:02. | :45:04.
does he come out? Just behind Alonso. In an deal with the Ferrari | :45:05. | :45:21.
Wycliffe. -- I wonder if he can deal with the Ferraris quickly. He will | :45:22. | :45:29.
deal with the fresh tyres. As they burn fuel, because it more | :45:30. | :45:33.
responsive. He is going to try to make a quickly. They know they have | :45:34. | :45:44.
more drive and talk. -- torque. Here is a play of the pit stop. It looks | :45:45. | :45:49.
quite slow. Was there an issue with the left rear? Taking no chances. A | :45:50. | :45:55.
ten place penalty for Ricciardo this week. Perez, trying to line up | :45:56. | :46:01.
Alonso. It is easy for him with that speed. That shows you what | :46:02. | :46:07.
difficulties Ferrari Rian. Alonso was not able to do anything that | :46:08. | :46:19.
might... Marcus Ericsson, he managed to finish the previous Grand Prix | :46:20. | :46:23.
but he has come off. Kobayashi is leading the Caterham Marussia battle | :46:24. | :46:30.
by a big margin. Into the pits has come Button and Hulkenberg. Where | :46:31. | :46:34.
does Hulkenberg come back out? Lets see where he is. Alonso was close | :46:35. | :46:41.
behind. McLaren in there with the force Indians. -- Force India two. | :46:42. | :46:51.
We expect them to go to the end of the Grand Prix now on these tyres. | :46:52. | :46:57.
The battle between the race leader and his team-mate, Vettel mixing it | :46:58. | :47:05.
up with Magnussen, in a clean run out of turn two, but it seems to me | :47:06. | :47:19.
that Hamilton has this in the back. -- in the bag. We assume that the | :47:20. | :47:25.
prime tyres are working well for Hamilton. Maldonado was in ninth. He | :47:26. | :47:30.
has only done the one stop. Surrounded by cars that have done | :47:31. | :47:34.
two. But currently, he is in a point position. Under attack by Sebastian | :47:35. | :47:41.
Vettel. There is no space, so the next area is the PRS area up ahead. | :47:42. | :47:47.
Both Renault powered. Making it look easy. On a fresh attire and a faster | :47:48. | :47:58.
car. The Lotuses undeveloped. Sebastian Vettel gave us the message | :47:59. | :48:01.
that the PRS was not working. But clearly, it is open now. Eriksson | :48:02. | :48:11.
has reported that he has lost power, which is the reason for him pulling | :48:12. | :48:17.
over. We have lost the other Sauber, of Adrian Sutil. I'm not sure what | :48:18. | :48:24.
the flag is for. It may just be Eriksson's car. And think it is just | :48:25. | :48:29.
the area where he stopped. No overtaking in that area. But they | :48:30. | :48:34.
can get back on it as they exit. Vettel coming through in ninth and | :48:35. | :48:39.
Maldonado, and behind him, Raikkonen and Ricciardo, tussling. Still no | :48:40. | :48:48.
way past for the Red Bull. Perez, more than a second faster than Massa | :48:49. | :48:55.
last lap. Ricciardo, trying round the outside in turn four. Raikkonen | :48:56. | :49:05.
has got in there. Lovely from Ricciardo, finally getting past the | :49:06. | :49:09.
Ferrari. It is on the corners, not the straight line that he achieves | :49:10. | :49:14.
it. The Ferrari looked terrible on that fourth turn. Raikkonen... | :49:15. | :49:22.
Ricciardo, excuse me, hooking it up around that exit. Magnussen having a | :49:23. | :49:34.
quiet run. Getting a great exit. He has done 16 laps on those tyres. You | :49:35. | :49:41.
can see the difference. Some helicopter tape hanging off the back | :49:42. | :49:45.
of the car of Daniel Ricciardo. It tends to put helicopter tape across | :49:46. | :49:50.
the joints on the engine cover, just to improve the aerodynamics. On | :49:51. | :50:00.
board with fully paymaster. Massa and his team-mate, together again. | :50:01. | :50:04.
Bottas has locked up again. You can hear the short shifting as they try | :50:05. | :50:18.
to control the talk. -- torque. But Bottas has had to work hard this | :50:19. | :50:22.
afternoon. A bit of a reversal. Bottas always looked like the faster | :50:23. | :50:26.
of the two Williams but now he seems to be struggling. But he has track | :50:27. | :50:31.
position and his team is very much nervous of giving any instruction to | :50:32. | :50:34.
the two drivers after what happened last week. This is Ricciardo when he | :50:35. | :50:43.
made that move. Good stuff. Watch Raikkonen on the apex. He has a bit | :50:44. | :50:47.
of a wiggle and he tries to get the throttle open. It highlights the | :50:48. | :50:52.
difficulty that they are having as Alonso gets passed. Converter can go | :50:53. | :51:02.
after his team-mate. RADIO: at the end, Sebastian, you will be under | :51:03. | :51:07.
pressure. Under pressure from the likes of Massa and Bottas. Vettel is | :51:08. | :51:13.
currently in eighth but he may struggle to carry on to that. Ten | :51:14. | :51:19.
seconds behind this pair. Massa has had three stops... We have had a | :51:20. | :51:28.
shunt. It must be Gutierrez. This might be a safety car. They will not | :51:29. | :51:34.
push that away. It must be a safety car. Only the second time in Bahrain | :51:35. | :51:42.
race history. He has gone over. That car has flipped, I would suggest. We | :51:43. | :51:46.
will get the replay but you do not knock your camera off. The driver, | :51:47. | :51:51.
his head was moving around. Let's wait and see. Hopefully, he is just | :51:52. | :52:01.
shaken. We gather it rolled. A lot of debris. I'm sure you are right | :52:02. | :52:06.
about the safety car. It looks like the exit of the corner. The driver | :52:07. | :52:10.
is in the car and the yellow-flagged is out. We need a medical card they | :52:11. | :52:19.
are to error on the side of safety. He is getting out. Fantastic to | :52:20. | :52:23.
see. The Mexican, Gutierrez, in his second year of Formula 1. Let's look | :52:24. | :52:27.
and see what happened. Was he exiting the pits? He was on the | :52:28. | :52:33.
outside and the other car was coming out. And they just did not see each | :52:34. | :52:41.
other. What was that! He did not even know it was there. Pastor | :52:42. | :52:54.
Maldonado. My goodness. David, a new nose on the Formula 1 car, would | :52:55. | :52:58.
that have contributed? Or would this have happened at any situation? Good | :52:59. | :53:04.
question. Want to get my vision back... The reason of the loan nose | :53:05. | :53:11.
is to stop that nose going into high. Maybe that is a good thing. | :53:12. | :53:18.
Meanwhile, Hamilton and Rosberg have taken the stocks and the safety car | :53:19. | :53:23.
is out. A lot of damage done. Kevin Magnussen has pulled over to the | :53:24. | :53:31.
side of the track. It looks like it is his first non-finish in Formula | :53:32. | :53:34.
1. The green light indicates that the car is safe from an electrical | :53:35. | :53:39.
point of view. They have different lights on top. Kevin Magnussen, | :53:40. | :53:43.
getting out. Jamie Raikkonen has come into the pits during this. Just | :53:44. | :53:47.
about everybody is making their final pits pop -- pit stop. Kevin | :53:48. | :53:55.
Magnussen clambering out of the cockpit, his first retirement. Let's | :53:56. | :54:01.
look at Hamilton's pit stop will stop --. Did the double stack? You | :54:02. | :54:10.
wait to see the other car coming. Nine seconds behind on the road. | :54:11. | :54:13.
They were reacting to the possibility of a safety car. Lovely | :54:14. | :54:21.
call. The strategy is spot on. RADIO: Lewis, it is Paddy. With ten | :54:22. | :54:26.
laps left, let's make sure we bring both cars home. An interesting | :54:27. | :54:31.
comment from Paddy Lowe. The man who has taken over the role from Ross | :54:32. | :54:36.
Brawn, of being the senior man on the radio to tell the boys to behave | :54:37. | :54:41.
themselves. I'd doubt that Lewis will respond well to that | :54:42. | :54:50.
instruction. To suggest it is in his hands whether the cars come home or | :54:51. | :54:56.
not, it takes two to tango. Force India, lined up for an amazing | :54:57. | :54:59.
result if they can stay where they are. Their best ever results, second | :55:00. | :55:04.
place in 2009 for Jazz Carlin physicality. Wonder how it is going | :55:05. | :55:11.
to be -- and wonder how it is going to be for them. It is Paddy here. | :55:12. | :55:16.
Ten laps left to race. Let's make sure we bring both cars home. The | :55:17. | :55:21.
safety car will be coming in on this lap and we will have ten laps to | :55:22. | :55:25.
decide the outcome of the 2014 Bahrain Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton | :55:26. | :55:30.
and Nico Rosberg on different tyres. They have both been in for their | :55:31. | :55:34.
final pit stop -- pits spot -- pits stop. Hamilton is opening the gap to | :55:35. | :55:41.
the safety car. He wants to make a brake. Lewis Hamilton gets on the | :55:42. | :55:48.
gas. Sliding through the last corner. Changed immediately by Nico | :55:49. | :55:51.
Rosberg. They have both been told to keep these cars in one piece and get | :55:52. | :55:56.
them to the chequered flag. In the background, the Force Indias | :55:57. | :56:02.
side-by-side. Hulkenberg on the outside of Perez. Perez squeezes him | :56:03. | :56:09.
out. A very aggressively. Button will feel that. He will be trying to | :56:10. | :56:12.
take advantage but he has his own problems. The two Mercedes are | :56:13. | :56:16.
side-by-side once again. Hamilton and Rosberg. Rosberg tries to go | :56:17. | :56:20.
around the outside but can he do it?! No. Rosberg, with the softer | :56:21. | :56:29.
tyre. Perez in third, Hulkenberg in fourth. All of them can see the | :56:30. | :56:36.
leaders ahead. To give them that extra spice, to see what they can | :56:37. | :56:40.
get out of this Grand Prix. Ricciardo will not just sits behind | :56:41. | :56:43.
his team-mate. Therefore has a chance. -- Vettel has a chance. Ten | :56:44. | :56:52.
seconds for Pastor mother Naldo. -- Pastor Maldonado. Vettel is through. | :56:53. | :57:00.
Another chance for Ricciardo. Bottom loses the place. He is down in sixth | :57:01. | :57:08.
with Ricciardo chasing. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez is in third and | :57:09. | :57:11.
Ricciardo gets passed Button as well. Absolutely nothing Button can | :57:12. | :57:18.
do to prevent the Red Bulls. It is a replay of the winter testing. Up | :57:19. | :57:23.
front, still Hamilton and Rosberg. Nobody has to worry about fuel. The | :57:24. | :57:28.
safety car has been on track. No concerns about fuel consumption. It | :57:29. | :57:33.
is flat out to the flag. No doubt that Rosberg is settling in behind | :57:34. | :57:35.
Hamilton, looking for any opportunity. Hamilton looks in his | :57:36. | :57:39.
mirrors but Rosberg is biding his time. In the background, the | :57:40. | :57:44.
Williams are making a move. Down the inside of Jenson Button, Button is | :57:45. | :57:50.
dropping further and further behind. Bottas will try to get past him now. | :57:51. | :57:54.
He was trying to hold it, holding the inside line. RADIO: I have lost | :57:55. | :58:08.
power. Hamilton is reporting a lack of power. Bottas is passing Button | :58:09. | :58:12.
on the exit of turn four. The Ferraris are turning up above behind | :58:13. | :58:22.
the McLarens. Alonso was right behind. Kimi Raikkonen and Daniil | :58:23. | :58:26.
Kvyat, who took a big lunch. Good avoiding action. It is fraught in | :58:27. | :58:32.
the deserts of Bahrain, under the floodlights. It is turning out to be | :58:33. | :58:37.
an amazing race. Perez is in third. Hulkenberg under pressure from | :58:38. | :58:42.
Vettel. Alonso, moving past. Not moving past Jenson Button. Jenson | :58:43. | :58:49.
Button could not make it. On the exit of turn ten, | :58:50. | :58:55.
Button could not make it. On the is on the charge. Looking for | :58:56. | :59:01.
another Toro Rosso points finish. Hamilton under pressure. TRS will be | :59:02. | :59:07.
available. Has there been an incident further down the field? | :59:08. | :59:12.
Alonso looking at the McLaren again. They have to be wary of the yellows | :59:13. | :59:19.
but they think they have been withdrawn. Hamilton is still | :59:20. | :59:24.
leading. Rosberg, the gap was 0.9 seconds as they went over the line. | :59:25. | :59:28.
Crucially, Hamilton was quicker than Rosberg that lap. It must've been a | :59:29. | :59:33.
Rosberg mistake in the last sector. Hamilton has the fastest lap because | :59:34. | :59:38.
of that, one: 37.3, four seconds of qualifying. But it is still | :59:39. | :59:44.
important. The PRS is now enabled, but will it give Rosberg more of a | :59:45. | :59:49.
chance to close the gap? They are pretty much even Stevens through the | :59:50. | :59:53.
first sector as we keep an eye on the Ferraris. And also the Toro | :59:54. | :00:01.
Rosso. What an opportunity this is for Daniel Kvyat to go racing | :00:02. | :00:05.
against two world champions. Sebastian Vettel is a little bit | :00:06. | :00:08.
further up, trying to get as Hulkenberg. A huge lock-up through | :00:09. | :00:18.
turn nine. This is where the action is at the moment, Ricciardo will not | :00:19. | :00:21.
give up on getting past his team-mates, but the Williams cars | :00:22. | :00:26.
are not making the sort of ground I expected. Rosberg quicker in that | :00:27. | :00:34.
middle sector than Hamilton. He is going to be in the DRS zone. That is | :00:35. | :00:40.
what Rosberg is hoping for, use the DRS and close upon him. The battle | :00:41. | :00:44.
for fourth two place, how they use energy recovery is crucial at this | :00:45. | :00:53.
time. -- the battle for fourth place. Once again, Hamilton is a | :00:54. | :00:59.
full four tenths faster in this sector, that might be the saving | :01:00. | :01:04.
position for him. Ricciardo down the inside of Vettel, I think he will | :01:05. | :01:09.
make the move stick, he passes his world champion team-mate into gear. | :01:10. | :01:14.
They said the Red Bull had less downforce, he knew we had the | :01:15. | :01:18.
penalty, but Vettel coming back. Ricciardo goes defensive, will | :01:19. | :01:23.
Vettel go around the outside? They would expect a bit more room to be | :01:24. | :01:28.
given by Ricciardo than we saw with Hamilton and Rosberg, but he does | :01:29. | :01:30.
have the faster car in a straight line, but that means less downforce | :01:31. | :01:36.
in the corners. Ricciardo has got itself in front of Vettel, and he | :01:37. | :01:41.
will be delighted about that, Vettel chased by Felipe Massa. Rosberg, a | :01:42. | :01:46.
good first sector, as he tries to close the gap to Lewis Hamilton. | :01:47. | :01:50.
This is going to go all the way to the chequered flag. A lock-up for | :01:51. | :01:54.
Sebastian Vettel, Surrey, for Ricciardo this time as he attacks | :01:55. | :02:00.
Nico Hulkenberg. Nico Hulkenberg dropping away from his team-mate, | :02:01. | :02:03.
but Force India running third and fourth head of the Red Bulls, the | :02:04. | :02:11.
Ferraris. This is the pass down into turn one, Vettel goes defensive, | :02:12. | :02:16.
Ricciardo carries more speed, less downforce. He was set up for | :02:17. | :02:21.
qualifying. Looking back, team radio. I am really slow down the | :02:22. | :02:30.
straight! I am losing a lot. We have just seen the replay of Alonso going | :02:31. | :02:34.
past Button, and we gather Hulkenberg has been told his energy | :02:35. | :02:38.
store, which is the battery pack that stores electrical energy, is | :02:39. | :02:43.
low. Whether they have got some sort of ERS problem, he does seem to be | :02:44. | :02:51.
down on the pace had earlier in the race. Yes, running slower than his | :02:52. | :02:57.
team-mate, half a second on the last lap. This is the downside of this | :02:58. | :03:01.
new, complex Formula One - we do not know if we are seeing man-to-man | :03:02. | :03:05.
racing, or are they dealing with an issue with the car? You can see how | :03:06. | :03:10.
slow convert was, giving his team-mates some breathing space. -- | :03:11. | :03:16.
how slow Hulkenberg was. Six tenths of a second between Hamilton and | :03:17. | :03:23.
Rosberg. A chance for Vettel up the inside of Ricciardo, I do not think | :03:24. | :03:28.
he will be able to out drag him. All of these battles between team-mates, | :03:29. | :03:32.
someone is going to put a wheel wrong at some point, but so far so | :03:33. | :03:36.
good as Vettel tries to reclaim the spot. Hulkenberg is doing a real | :03:37. | :03:40.
defensive job and he has more power than these two. The Williams are now | :03:41. | :03:45.
catching, so this is where William needs to make their move. They have | :03:46. | :03:49.
got to be disappointed with where they are, Massa and Bottas, they | :03:50. | :03:53.
were looking at a potential podium finish, but they need to do some | :03:54. | :03:58.
overtaking. Rosberg will be closer than at any other time when he comes | :03:59. | :04:03.
across the line. We are not seeing that battle. I can tell you that | :04:04. | :04:07.
Rosberg did not look close enough to challenge on this lap. He is having | :04:08. | :04:11.
a go! He is having a go from a long way back, Rosberg side by side with | :04:12. | :04:16.
Hamilton once again, but Hamilton just able to fend them off. It is | :04:17. | :04:21.
not over, he has got a good exit, turn four, he moved to the outside, | :04:22. | :04:25.
Hamilton hangs him out to dry every time. Hamilton will again squeeze | :04:26. | :04:31.
him over the white line! Oh, my goodness, don't touch! They are so | :04:32. | :04:35.
close, but they get away with it! They were told to bring the cars | :04:36. | :04:38.
back in one piece, and if they carry on like this, it might not happen. | :04:39. | :04:44.
Rosberg still on the charge. He is on the better tyre in the same car, | :04:45. | :04:49.
he has a lot of anger in his belly. I do not see how Hamilton can hold | :04:50. | :04:54.
this. Amazing watching him drive, changing the brake balance between | :04:55. | :04:58.
corners, we see it so often, but when they are in the middle of a | :04:59. | :05:02.
dice like that, the control and thought processes! He is having a | :05:03. | :05:06.
look at the inside, but that is the other DRS zone, a tough place to | :05:07. | :05:10.
overtake. It is possible but not easy. Wheel to wheel racing, 3.5 | :05:11. | :05:17.
seconds per lap faster than the opposition! This is the first time | :05:18. | :05:21.
we have seen them in real race conditions having to go flat out | :05:22. | :05:25.
because they are racing each other, and they are three seconds faster | :05:26. | :05:30.
than the field. You would expect to seem like having a go with the DRS | :05:31. | :05:35.
into turn one, or will he try another strategy, leave Hamilton in | :05:36. | :05:40.
turn one and get the run into four? Here we go, DRS open, five laps to | :05:41. | :05:46.
go. Rosberg has got to find something different here, Hamilton | :05:47. | :05:49.
defence, down the inside but deep surely. He still gets into the | :05:50. | :05:53.
corner, and Hamilton cuts back again! Well, Hamilton read that | :05:54. | :05:59.
beautifully, he is such an instinctive racer, but again he's | :06:00. | :06:03.
going to have to defend here, because Rosberg has got the outside | :06:04. | :06:06.
line. Can he come back on the exit? Hamilton is not go to letting do | :06:07. | :06:13.
that, I don't think. This is wonderful! I do not know how | :06:14. | :06:18.
Hamilton is doing this, keeping Rosberg behind! You saw Hamilton, is | :06:19. | :06:24.
red light flashing into turn four, saying he was getting a reduction in | :06:25. | :06:28.
the acceleration on that straight. That is a message to Rosberg. Not | :06:29. | :06:34.
exactly a brake light, it is do with when the car is gathering energy, | :06:35. | :06:38.
and it can just lose a bit of straight-line speed and force the | :06:39. | :06:43.
driver behind. DRS available once again for Rosberg, but he does not | :06:44. | :06:48.
drive. He put a wheel on the kerb, that may have cost him a fraction, | :06:49. | :06:54.
but he is still close by. I wonder what would be happening if Ross | :06:55. | :07:02.
Brawn was still there. Would he be on the radio more than Paddy Lowe? | :07:03. | :07:06.
That is the senior management, Toto Wolff, Paddy Lowe. The two best | :07:07. | :07:11.
strikers in Formula One right at this stage, you have to say, because | :07:12. | :07:14.
they have got the best cars, but they are being allowed to race | :07:15. | :07:19.
against each other, and that is what we are thoroughly enjoy. This lap, a | :07:20. | :07:25.
bit further back, Hamilton still fending off Rosberg. Everybody | :07:26. | :07:29.
getting behind this confrontation. Two drivers who have known each | :07:30. | :07:33.
other for so long. Ricciardo, did he make a move on Hulkenberg? | :07:34. | :07:37.
Hulkenberg has been struggling, and I think Ricciardo has made the move | :07:38. | :07:43.
into fourth place, yes. Ricciardo, half a second faster. At that rate, | :07:44. | :07:48.
he will not close honours. Excellent job, keep doing what you're doing, | :07:49. | :07:55.
brokers. Getting on the full to Sergio Perez saying, do this, we can | :07:56. | :07:59.
get a podium position, and for Force India that would just be immense, a | :08:00. | :08:03.
massive result if they can achieve that. And it is looking good so far. | :08:04. | :08:08.
Hulkenberg is the one in trouble, he has got a problem with that car, and | :08:09. | :08:13.
he is desperately trying to defend from Vettel, Massa, Bottas, Alonso, | :08:14. | :08:20.
Raikkonen is tense, Button is out of the points in 11. Is he going very | :08:21. | :08:26.
slowly, Jenson Button? P11 he was, he has dropped to 13 the already as | :08:27. | :08:32.
Grosjean has gone past. Oh, he is coming to a halt, so we have lost | :08:33. | :08:37.
both McLarens, my goodness, what a long time it has been since two | :08:38. | :08:42.
McLarens failed to finish, although it did happen here at Bahrain in the | :08:43. | :08:46.
past with both cars going out on the same day. But it is very unusual in | :08:47. | :08:51.
modern Formula One, as Massa now goes on the attack with Sebastian | :08:52. | :08:56.
Vettel, who goes a little bit too deep into turn one. But there is no | :08:57. | :09:00.
way through just yet. He will have the run through three and into four, | :09:01. | :09:05.
Vettel will have to go defensive. He is on the sand and the dust, and he | :09:06. | :09:10.
goes down the inside, and Massa has got past Sebastian Vettel! Vettel | :09:11. | :09:14.
will come back at him on the exit and retakes it. Erect that | :09:15. | :09:19.
perfectly, squeezed Massa as much as he could. -- he read that | :09:20. | :09:24.
perfectly. Fantastic racing this afternoon. Everybody said the new | :09:25. | :09:28.
rules would turn it into an economy drive, but we have not seen that at | :09:29. | :09:34.
all - we have seen drivers going for it hard, overtaking, being passed, | :09:35. | :09:39.
and now Alonso catching the two Williams, which have not shown the | :09:40. | :09:44.
pace that we were expecting in this latter part of the Grand Prix. | :09:45. | :09:48.
Button retires, a sad way to end his 250th Grand Prix. That is the way it | :09:49. | :09:54.
goes sometimes, the team has a remarkable finishing record. I have | :09:55. | :10:01.
to say, that is very sad indeed. But they will pick themselves up again, | :10:02. | :10:06.
I am sure. We are on to the final lap now, and Rosberg is not quite | :10:07. | :10:10.
there with Lewis Hamilton. I can tell you there is one second between | :10:11. | :10:15.
them as they go over the line, and it looks like Lewis Hamilton has | :10:16. | :10:18.
done enough. Unless he makes a mistake, it does not look like | :10:19. | :10:22.
Rosberg has an answer for him. He has tried everything, but this is | :10:23. | :10:26.
Lewis Hamilton at his very best, and when he is at his best, he is | :10:27. | :10:30.
arguably the best driver in Formula One right now. Sebastian Vettel | :10:31. | :10:35.
still trying to keep Massa and Bottas behind him, then Alonso, | :10:36. | :10:40.
Raikkonen with his team-mate. Some team formations going on, Hulkenberg | :10:41. | :10:45.
is the one who has not been able to keep that team formation, because he | :10:46. | :10:49.
got a problem. I wonder if Williams are allowing their guys to race, | :10:50. | :10:53.
because Bottas will use this last lap to try to get as his team-mate. | :10:54. | :10:59.
Massa using a lot of road, he has lost a fair bit of grip there. And | :11:00. | :11:04.
we have also got the battle going on between Perez and Ricciardo, that is | :11:05. | :11:09.
how much Ricciardo has managed to catch over the last lap also. Perez | :11:10. | :11:13.
should just about have enough in hand, hoping to get that podium | :11:14. | :11:19.
finish for Force India. What a result it would be, but Lewis | :11:20. | :11:23.
Hamilton is on the penultimate straight here, coming up towards the | :11:24. | :11:28.
last two corners, and I think that Lewis Hamilton has done enough, | :11:29. | :11:33.
despite the best intent is of Rosberg. Lewis Hamilton wins the | :11:34. | :11:38.
Bahrain Grand Prix! It is a one -to finish for Mercedes once again, | :11:39. | :11:42.
back-to-back victories within a week for Lewis Hamilton, his first win in | :11:43. | :11:48.
Bahrain, and his 24th career victory to match Juan Manuel Fangio. Who | :11:49. | :11:53.
will finish third, it is going to be Sergio Perez for Force India, I | :11:54. | :11:58.
think. Daniel Ricciardo trying his utmost, but Sergio Perez brings | :11:59. | :12:02.
Force India a podium finish, fantastic for them! The last time | :12:03. | :12:06.
they did that, the only time they did that, was 2009. Hulkenberg | :12:07. | :12:12.
fifth, Vettel sixth. Then Massa, Bottas, the two Ferraris finishing | :12:13. | :12:17.
ninth and tenth. It looks like Daniil Kvyat finishes in 11th, | :12:18. | :12:23.
Grosjean in 12th for Lotus, and Max Chilton will get 13th place, another | :12:24. | :12:27.
13th place, and that will put Marussia back ahead of Caterham in | :12:28. | :12:32.
the seesaw battle that is going on between them. The fireworks go off | :12:33. | :12:37.
here, but the fireworks were throughout that Grand Prix. Nice | :12:38. | :12:41.
work there, Lewis, you had us all going for a minute, mate! Fantastic | :12:42. | :12:53.
job, guys. Thanks. Absolutely fantastic performance. Look at that, | :12:54. | :12:57.
the first time he has received the trophy in Bahrain, the first time he | :12:58. | :13:03.
has won here, putting the Malaysians bogey behind him last week and this | :13:04. | :13:08.
week, two tracks he had previously not won, he has conquered them both | :13:09. | :13:12.
in style, and for Force India, what an achievement this is. Well, three | :13:13. | :13:19.
wins out of the first three races for one manufacturer, it has not | :13:20. | :13:22.
been done since 2006 when Renault were the team to beat. Right now it | :13:23. | :13:27.
is very hard to see anyone challenging Mercedes' domination. | :13:28. | :13:30.
What a glorious win today, I think I saw you whisper wow on the podium, | :13:31. | :13:40.
how would you describe that race? It was unreal today, one of the most | :13:41. | :13:50.
difficult races I have had for a long time. I got that gap, and then | :13:51. | :13:53.
the safety car come out, and I thought, I could not believe it, you | :13:54. | :13:58.
know. I knew that he was on the options, he had a good half a second | :13:59. | :14:02.
on me, and he has been quicker generally throughout from qualifying | :14:03. | :14:08.
until now. He was quicker, so I had to pull out all the stops, you | :14:09. | :14:12.
know, position the car the right way to get back. I feel so blessed, the | :14:13. | :14:17.
team have done an incredible job. Back to the start, let's have a look | :14:18. | :14:22.
at that. This was classic Lewis on the run down to the first corner, | :14:23. | :14:25.
can you recall what you were thinking? Don't brake early! | :14:26. | :14:31.
That is a point I have been trying to improve on this year, the first | :14:32. | :14:38.
corner attacking, not locking up, and I think in the past here, I got | :14:39. | :14:42.
a good pull away, but his second part was a little bit better than | :14:43. | :14:45.
mine. I kept the steering wheel straight, he knew I was there. It | :14:46. | :14:51.
was just about who breaks later? Super tight at the first corner. | :14:52. | :14:56.
Really tight, I used all the road. Generally, this race I really | :14:57. | :15:00.
struggled, I did not have the pace, the grip. You can see here that he | :15:01. | :15:05.
had done a better job. You cannot come around me on the outside, that | :15:06. | :15:13.
is a no-go! Is one thing you show this weekend, nobody was getting an | :15:14. | :15:17.
easy pass. That was the feeling I heard. I was | :15:18. | :15:24.
not letting this go. Adept and I wanted it so bad. Cannot remember | :15:25. | :15:30.
having that fire. Where have you found that hunger? Is it because you | :15:31. | :15:37.
are in such a happy place? Think that was the past that the goal was | :15:38. | :15:42.
unhappy with. I got the power but I had to straighten up the car. I | :15:43. | :15:47.
mean, this looks cool. I will watch these races again. He drove a | :15:48. | :15:53.
fantastically well. But here, to come around and get back on the | :15:54. | :15:57.
inside, this was an important move. They did not get that, it would have | :15:58. | :16:03.
been over. When the safety car came out, what were you thinking? Because | :16:04. | :16:08.
with his tyres, he should have been in better shape. He was. The safety | :16:09. | :16:13.
car, they told me and you did ten seconds and had 9.5. -- I needed ten | :16:14. | :16:22.
seconds. I was not able to bridge that gap. When the safety car came | :16:23. | :16:29.
out, my heart sunk. But I said I was going to give it everything. And a | :16:30. | :16:33.
great thing is, on the last few laps, I was not making any mistakes. | :16:34. | :16:38.
That is what I was happy about. I made no mistakes. He put me under | :16:39. | :16:42.
pressure but that did not lock up or go white. I've got everything needed | :16:43. | :16:48.
from the car. It looks to me as if this was your hungriest race in | :16:49. | :16:52.
terms of sending a message. One of my better races. Every race is | :16:53. | :16:58.
special. The last race, when you read from the front, it is | :16:59. | :17:04.
different. But this one, to use the skills I have been harnessing for so | :17:05. | :17:08.
long, it is not every day you get to pull them out and they work. Nicole | :17:09. | :17:14.
has put out a statement to say that he is going to be the victor in | :17:15. | :17:19.
China. Bring it on! Let's hear from him. What an incredible race. Do you | :17:20. | :17:24.
still appreciate it, even when you did not get the results you hoped | :17:25. | :17:28.
for? I am very disappointed to come second after a day like this, where | :17:29. | :17:34.
I was quicker. He did a better job than me. And that is it. Of course, | :17:35. | :17:41.
I have a joyful side because it was a good day for the sport and an | :17:42. | :17:46.
exciting race. In the car, there was a lot of action going on. Good | :17:47. | :17:54.
racing, close racing. And so there was a small joyful side, but the | :17:55. | :18:00.
majority is unhappy. You were quite vocal on the team radio. Do you | :18:01. | :18:03.
think Lewis was respectful of the limits of wheel to wheel racing? | :18:04. | :18:07.
There was an occasion where he went beyond the limit. But all in all, it | :18:08. | :18:17.
was tough racing. Great scenes down here in Force | :18:18. | :18:23.
India. The fourth ever podium. A little bit of dancing going on | :18:24. | :18:28.
behind to celebrate Sergio. Nice work. Your fourth podium, but just | :18:29. | :18:32.
their second. behind to celebrate Sergio. Nice | :18:33. | :18:34.
work. Your fourth podium, but Very eventful from your point of view. | :18:35. | :18:40.
The podium means a lot. Confidence wise, in every way. I've had a tough | :18:41. | :18:48.
time last year at McLaren. Just because of the fact that I was never | :18:49. | :18:51.
able to fight for a podium. This is a big factor. As a driver, when you | :18:52. | :18:57.
have a good car, it puts you at another level. The way you prepare | :18:58. | :19:00.
yourself, it moves you forward. I mean, I'd drive with art and if I | :19:01. | :19:08.
have the opportunity, I know that I have to give my very best to get the | :19:09. | :19:12.
points. I'd give it all and it was an amazing feeling to cross the | :19:13. | :19:16.
finish line and give these guys a second podium. It is the fourth | :19:17. | :19:21.
podium of your career but what is it about Bahrain? This was one of your | :19:22. | :19:26.
best races last year. What was it that allowed you to put in this | :19:27. | :19:31.
performance? We had a good time at Bahrain last year. It was hotter. | :19:32. | :19:37.
And I think nothing special, but the fact that both cars were competitive | :19:38. | :19:42.
here. So I managed to put in a good race with McLaren and here for Force | :19:43. | :19:47.
India. Hopefully this is just the start of a turnaround for my career | :19:48. | :19:54.
and for the team. Let's look at some of your moves today. Some great | :19:55. | :20:01.
overtaking. Fully paid, -- Felipe, that was very important. I'm new I | :20:02. | :20:08.
had to get him soon. Then I'll overtook Fernando when I was behind | :20:09. | :20:14.
Nicole. I'm new I had to get Nicole very soon. But that was the biggest | :20:15. | :20:22.
opportunity for me to hit him. Wheel to wheel. It was important to get | :20:23. | :20:30.
the Williams they are because I'm new that Nicole was close. -- I knew | :20:31. | :20:39.
that Nicole was close. And you passed the double World Champion | :20:40. | :20:46.
twice. That was the hardest one. The front wheel was locking, and it was | :20:47. | :20:50.
really hard to picture those tyres after the race. And it was looking | :20:51. | :20:58.
easier that we could podium but when the safety car came out, it's good | :20:59. | :21:05.
us up. It was really hard. -- it screwed us up. My team-mate, Nico, | :21:06. | :21:11.
did a great job. We will leave you cuddling your trophy. Let's hear | :21:12. | :21:14.
from Nico. It seems that when everybody else was fighting at the | :21:15. | :21:21.
end, you were struggling more. Yes, because from the pit lane, I had to | :21:22. | :21:26.
fight. I was driving behind cars and behind the safety car. Initially, | :21:27. | :21:33.
driving in dirty air, it caused a lot of downforce. Therefore, | :21:34. | :21:42.
afterwards, I was struggling. We are joined by Daniel Ricciardo. Finally | :21:43. | :21:45.
some points in the can after what seemed right and eventful race. It | :21:46. | :21:52.
was eventful but in a good way. Really exciting from start to | :21:53. | :21:55.
finish. The first lap, there was a lot going on. And then it seems by | :21:56. | :22:05.
the third stint, it was particularly exciting. Battles in front and | :22:06. | :22:11.
behind. As a racer, those are the races you enjoy. As a spectator, we | :22:12. | :22:13.
also enjoyed it. races you enjoy. As a spectator, we | :22:14. | :22:18.
also Some great wheel to wheel action. What was the area that you | :22:19. | :22:24.
really found best to use your car? This is with Magnussen in turn ten. | :22:25. | :22:28.
really found best to use your car? This is with Magnussen in The option | :22:29. | :22:32.
was performing well. We had good traction. As you can see, I think as | :22:33. | :22:39.
the race went on with low fuel... And the team recognised you were | :22:40. | :22:42.
running faster than Sebastian and he got out of the way. I think you had | :22:43. | :22:49.
already made the radio call. I think basically we needed to make a | :22:50. | :22:53.
decision. It was either pit and do something... This was great with | :22:54. | :23:02.
Kimi Raikkonen. We have to make the decision whether to go in the pit or | :23:03. | :23:05.
overtake him. We were on different tyres. We had to do something. And I | :23:06. | :23:11.
think we made the right call today. A lot of fun. Do you feel as though | :23:12. | :23:19.
the 2014 campaign has started? I think on the scoreboard, definitely, | :23:20. | :23:22.
but personally, I think it was underway in Melbourne. Ever since, | :23:23. | :23:27.
it has been good. Personally, I have been happy with the first three | :23:28. | :23:30.
races but this one, yeah, this was the most fun. With the points on the | :23:31. | :23:36.
board, you could say it has got underway. ! . . Some tough times on | :23:37. | :23:46.
track. What do you make of all that? Think it was a busy race, especially | :23:47. | :23:50.
after the safety car. A shame that I could not get further up. Obviously, | :23:51. | :24:02.
there was more to get. Could not really gets to that bit. I cannot | :24:03. | :24:06.
happy with my day. For some reason, we seems to be very slow down the | :24:07. | :24:10.
straights, not just against the Mercedes owner but also across cars. | :24:11. | :24:15.
I am not that kind of guy that wants to find a reason for everything. | :24:16. | :24:20.
Even though I am a racing driver. But yes, it is simply not good | :24:21. | :24:25.
enough today. Not good enough today but the racing was spectacular. | :24:26. | :24:30.
Throughout the field, what an incredible day. The absolutely | :24:31. | :24:33.
spectacular from the word go. The two Mercedes, Juliet out. That | :24:34. | :24:39.
continued all the way through to the last quarter but up and down the | :24:40. | :24:44.
field, some excellent battles. This was a great game to watch to | :24:45. | :24:50.
understand what the modern race can be like. I have to say, it was a | :24:51. | :24:54.
very high-risk strategy, the Mercedes. Do you not think, David? | :24:55. | :24:59.
They were significantly quicker than anybody else. So close, as we see | :25:00. | :25:05.
there. That could easily have put both cars out of the race. Sergio | :25:06. | :25:09.
Perez would have ended up winning. The most senior person there this | :25:10. | :25:14.
evening was Andy Logue, who delivered the same message to both | :25:15. | :25:17.
drivers. We want to get the cars to the finish. Beyond that, you them | :25:18. | :25:21.
race and what a treat. Lewis Hamilton, this was one of the many | :25:22. | :25:25.
attempts at Nico Rosberg tried in transport. -- turned four. It set it | :25:26. | :25:33.
up for an exciting season. Despite the fact that the Mercedes were | :25:34. | :25:39.
pretty much able to win this. From my point of view, it was excellent | :25:40. | :25:43.
racing. Lewis had to pull everything out of the bag to keep Rosberg | :25:44. | :25:50.
behind. The was no way that Rosberg was going to give him a pass but | :25:51. | :25:54.
likewise, it is certainly no way that Lewis Hamilton was going to let | :25:55. | :25:59.
Rosberg take this victory. It was Doggett and determined but not so | :26:00. | :26:03.
great for the other teams. Ryrie were slow and McLaren did not have a | :26:04. | :26:09.
good day. Two non-finishes for McLaren and we have not seen that | :26:10. | :26:12.
for a while. Disappointment in a country where they have ownership. A | :26:13. | :26:17.
difficult time for them, and worrying for Ryrie, who did not have | :26:18. | :26:25.
any pace. Do not know... With the manager in attendance, it is not | :26:26. | :26:30.
what you would expect. Certainly a worrying moment for Gutierrez, after | :26:31. | :26:36.
he got hit by Maldonado. Maldonado, after he turned into the corner, | :26:37. | :26:40.
came down the inside. Too fast, it looked like. The cotton. What was | :26:41. | :26:47.
that, he said. He had no idea. This is a better view. He turns and flips | :26:48. | :26:52.
him. He was very lucky. Even though it was only 40 miles an hour, to | :26:53. | :26:59.
flip over like that is never fun. Certainly not. And it is worth | :27:00. | :27:02.
saying that he has passed the medical tests, but he has been taken | :27:03. | :27:09.
to hospital just for a precaution. This is an example of where the team | :27:10. | :27:12.
should have told him that there was a car coming out of the pits. Maybe | :27:13. | :27:17.
this is a bit of an experience from the server team. Let's take a look | :27:18. | :27:21.
at the results. First place for Lewis Hamilton. Nico Rosberg in | :27:22. | :27:25.
second and Sergio Perez on the podium. It leaves the standing | :27:26. | :27:35.
looking like this. People Rosberg, still leading, but Lewis was in the | :27:36. | :27:44.
-- closing the gap. In terms of the constructors championships, it is | :27:45. | :27:48.
Mercedes all the way. Force India jump ahead and Red Bull are now in | :27:49. | :27:52.
fourth place. So we will be back in a fortnight, for China. All the | :27:53. | :27:56.
highlights for you on Saturday and Sunday. As the lights go down in the | :27:57. | :28:04.
desert, the spotlight is on Lewis Hamilton, who stormed its today in | :28:05. | :28:08.
