The British Grand Prix - Highlights Formula 1

all over for the British driver. Victory for Rosberg here in Austria.

This is Formula One, race nine, Great Britain.

British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The sun is shining and 120,000 fans

are set to watch the spectacle unfold here today. It's the 50th

race here at Silverstone, so big celebrations over the last four

days. Vintage Formula One parades, rock concerts and the Red Arrows.

Let's have a look at how the championship looks at the moment.

Rosberg has a 29 point advantage over Hamilton, who could certainly

do with his share of Lady luck right now. Ricciardo is best of the rest.

Alonso heads the current world champion, Sebastian Vettel, and

Jenson Button lies eighth. Mercedes dominate the constructors'

championship. The battle between third and sixth is a close one.

Marussia are on the board in ninth with two points. We have all the

race action coming up for you in the second. First of all, here is the

incredible story of qualifying. British summer Time was in full

flow, rain and sunshine. It created problems for some big names.

Williams locked out the front row in Austria but went out in Q1 here,

leaving it late to set a time and then being caught out by the rain.

Ferrari also got it wrong. Raikkonen was on track at the wrong time,

Fernando Alonso spun on circuit. Marussia getting both cars into Q2

meant they were the highest powered Ferrari team. Bianchi got the best

ever position with 12, Chilton just behind. In Q3 it looked like

Sebastian Vettel had been caught out, he didn't leave the garage

whilst the track was dry. A big wrench or meant most cars were

waiting in the pit lane and the Toro Rosso drivers called it a day. At

that stage Lewis Hamilton was in pole position. He thought he'd done

enough and let his team-mate, Nico Rosberg, through and aborted his own

run. The final section of the track dried out faster than anyone would

have thought. Hulkenberg went fastest in the last few seconds,

then came Vettel and then Lewis Hamilton's worst nightmare, Rosberg

took pole position, Hamilton was left shell-shocked in sixth. You are

obviously incredibly disappointed, did you expect the circuit would dry

out so fast? Obviously not, no. I don't really have anything to say to

you. Together with my team, we made all the right course today. It was a

great example of teamwork. It was nice to see in such a conjugated

situation, because normally you can always find bits and pieces that

went wrong but today we got it all right. Rosberg gets his first pole

position of the season and the first at this track. Vettel is alongside,

matching his best performance of the year. Button is third. Hulkenberg is

for. Magnussen has the despondent Hamilton next to him. But expect a

lightning start from the Mercedes. Perez and Ricciardo are on the

fourth row, Toro Rosso rounds out the top ten. Grosjean in 11, Bianchi

in 12, but Max Chilton takes five plates drop for a gearbox change,

which means Sutil,, Alonso or move forward. This is where it gets

complicated. Gutierrez has a ten place penalty but only dropped from

14th to 19th, as he can't fall behind cars who didn't officially

qualify. Maldonado was excluded for not being able to provide fuel

sample, but he's allowed to start 20th, as both Caterham drivers

didn't qualify in 107% of the cut-off time, so they start at the

back the grid. Whether you are an avid fan, tuning in for the first

time or revisiting the sport you used to follow, sit back and enjoy

the ride as the 50th Grand Prix at Silverstone is about to start.

Vettel has dropped to fourth position already, dread. For the Red

Bull. He is under attack from Hamilton.

Hamilton already, as he's coming back at him. Hamilton now charging

with Vettel still behind him. Hulkenberg closing out. Nico Rosberg

getting away in front, Jenson Button in second. Then it's Magnussen in

third and already Hamilton... It's Kimi Raikkonen! Other cars involved

as well. Williams involved as well. Oh, my goodness, I think it was

Felipe Massa and the safety car. It is. He's having a tough time. That

car looks very badly damaged. He obviously didn't see the tyre that

has been removed from the Ferrari on the impact. Damage to the rear of

the car, heavy shunt on the front. You can see the crash structure at

the front of the car has taken a big hit. Kimi is still in the car but

there is some movement. He's starting to get out. You can see the

left rear damage on the Williams. It's a long way back. The safety car

is on track. On the opening lap of a Grand Prix, the medical car is just

behind the field. It's great to see Kimi out but he's limping. Felipe

Massa tries to get this car back. TEAM RADIO: Felipe, are you OK?

Trying to get some feedback from the team. The red flag, the race has

been completely stopped. Probably too much debris out them to feel

they can clean it up safely. He gets very wide coming up onto the

Wellington Straight. The car snaps and he has the accident all on his

own. The avoiding action there of the Williams, Massa did a great job

to avoid a full on impact with the side of Raikkonen.

Raikkonen has come back onto the circuit and spun, had his own

accident and then watch matter. Locks it up, throws the car into the

spin. Great avoiding action from Massa. That could have been so much

worse, a T-bone accident, that's always the most frightening. It just

clicks on him completely. It snaps as he comes back across the

circuit, over the artificial grass. You see the caterer there took a hit

on the nose. That was Kobayashi. We've seen that before... He hits

the bumper. Then a big hit into the barrier as it comes out to allow for

the bridge. Massa, great stuff in trying to avoid. It's good to see

Kimi is out of the car. But that was a frightening accident, he hit the

barrier very hard indeed. The race has been stopped and cars have been

brought back to the grid. Williams will analyse the damage on the back

of Felipe Massa's car. Let's take another look at the start of the

race. A really horrible. For Sebastian Vettel. He lost two

positions to the McLarens. Coming under pressure from Lewis Hamilton.

There was contact, we missed that in the excitement. That was Perez in

the Force India. You can see the slow starting Lotus as well. Some

avoiding action was being made by the two Ferraris getting pinched

through the first corner. There was that contact between Perez, he was

nursed into that half spin. Lets watch the start from Lewis

Hamilton's point of view. Terrible start the Hulkenberg, he gets

straight past the Force India. He thinks about going round the

outside, he's going to wait and see where Vettel breaks. There was

contact there from Vettel. Hamilton, one of the toughest racers out

there, keeps position. Losing a bit of drive and gap to the McLaren in

front. Lapped two out of the British Grand Prix. After an hour's delay,

Nico Rosberg has already launched himself away. He has timed it

beautifully. Pulling away very quickly from Jenson Button. Button

beautifully. Pulling away very really didn't see that coming.

Rosberg has opened up a big, healthy gap. Hamilton will hate to see that

because he wants to be as close as possible

because he wants to be as close as a great restart.

Great stuff from Rosberg. He's looked closely and done his

research. Caught them napping, given themselves a breathing zone already

will stop Hamilton tries to get himself into a position early on to

get past. We saw in the previous race that he wasn't particularly

close coming down the straight into Brooklands, coming out just to show

himself. Did he actually continue to place a move down the back? Anne

Bottas has taken a place from Kvyat. Did he manage to make that has an

Gutierrez? He's going to have a go down towards copse corner shortly.

The crowds will be cheering him on. Magnussen isn't going to give him

the space. Hamilton takes the place. Magnussen tried to do the

last of the late breakers but he did that with the man who is one of the

last of the late breakers. It didn't work out. A massive cheer has gone

up all around Silverstone. The big screen showing everyone what

Hamilton has done, he's moved up into third. Just Jenson Button

between Hamilton and the race leader, Rosberg. Our task is

overtaking, he's got past Ricciardo. Bottas charging that

Mercedes engine, once again helping the Williams. As we saw in Australia

when Bottas moved up from 50 to finish fifth, he loves to overtake.

manage to get that pass an Gutierrez. He's right in his

gearbox, will he an attempt down into the village corner? He's in

12th place at the moment. Here comes Hamilton already. Look

how quickly he is catching Jenson Button will stop hand over fist.

Jenson Button, the two drivers go side-by-side, Hamilton dives down

the inside and take second place from Jenson Button. Another huge

cheer goes up all around the Silverstone is good. Hamilton is

into second place already. You could almost hear the side from Rosberg

Vase cockpit over the cheer of the cloud, as he would have realised

Hamilton is now in second place. Rosberg has a four second advantage

over his team-mate at the moment. But clearly, Lewis Hamilton has got

his head down and going for it. Let's see what happened to Alonso

getting past Gutierrez. Dived down the inside into Brooklands. A fairly

straightforward pass. Bianchi in front of him, something

you don't normally see. A late apex in Brooklands will stop Hamilton

reasoning that. -- realising that. We will see more overtaking

opportunities on the two straights where DRS is used. One of those is

coming up. Alonso may take advantage of trying to get past the Toro

Rosso. Kvyat ghost offensive down the

inside into Brooklands. -- goes offensive. Will he be able

inside into Brooklands. -- goes offensive. Will to come back and get

the acceleration down? He has. He set that up from three corners

beforehand. Alonso moves up to ninth. Kvyat has the look but it's

all over. It's all part of the learning experience for Daniel

Coffey at. -- Daniil Kvyat. So Magnussen leading that group in

fourth. Behind him Sebastian Vettel. And this is Nico Hulkenberg under

attack, he tries to do a Mansell, but he was forced around the

outside. Fernando Alonso is getting the opportunity. Alonso around the

outside of the Red Bull and he does it. What a brilliant move. That is

so tough, it is so narrow on that section. Fantastic pass. One of the

more difficult places to overtake at low speed and it is easy for the guy

in front to lean on you and push you on to the grass. Ricardo getting a

lesson from Alonso, but it was because he was so busy trying to get

past Nico Hulkenberg. Already you can see Fernando Alonso struggling,

dropping back a bit. What is happening up front? Rosberg is

leading by 5.5 seconds and he put in a lap that was quicker than Lewis

Hamilton and the last lap they have both done exactly the same lap time.

Interestingly Alonso's under both done exactly the same lap time.

investigation for being out of grid position on the original start. You

can see that on the screen. As he goes on the attack. Was he out of

position? Fernando Alonso outside Nico Hulkenberg and Nico Hulkenberg

still has the inside line, but Alonso squeezes in front and takes

the place and moves into seventh. But is there a question mark about

his original start on the grid? Did he put the car in the wrong place.

Look at the boxes that are clearly marked as he is doing his tyre

warming, he goes beyond and he realises he is way beyond. A rare

mistake from Fernando. Ricardo with a chance. As we go on board, you see

he has not got the momentum. You can see the speed of the Force India,

even in the slip stream, it is able to pull away from the Red Bull. The

Force India has gone wide. That would have been a loss of lap time

if it was qualifying. He will get away with that in this situation

once or twice, but after that you expect him to get a call from the

stewards telling him any further using of the burn off areas he will

have to give up the position. Nico Hulkenberg goes to the inside and we

are keeping an eye on Bottas. He is around the outside. Daniel Ricciardo

has done it. Finding just a little space in the end. That has moved him

into eighth position. Hard work to get past Nico Hulkenberg. It didn't

take him as long as id did in Austria. Jules Bianchi is holding on

to 12th place. And problems for Esteban Gutierrez. That is with

Pastor Maldonado and Grosjean. They're all bunched together. He has

locked up and he has got damage. There must have been contact. The

front right is down. He has gone straight off. No air in that front

tyre. Oh dear, oh dear. Damage to the front wing. If he is beached

there, will we need another safety car to get that car removed. This is

down into braking. Does he try and dive down the inside? He does. The

gap is closing, he punting churs his tyre -- punctures his tyre and that

was pretty shoddy driving. Are you OK sh.? The car is not OK and he is

off in the gravel. His poor season goes from worst to worse. Pastor

Maldonado goes flying around the outside. This is not bumper racing.

The yellow flag out at the moment. Because of the car that is in the

gravel track. But no sign of the safety car yet. So Sebastian Vettel

into the pits for his first stop of the afternoon after the red flag and

the restart. He goes away. 2.9 seconds. Sebastian Vettel will come

out just ahead I think of a group of traffic. That is Adrian Sutil going

through. Behind is Bianchi, who is hanging on to 12th. They have got

the digger lifting that Sauber out of the way. They feel the yellow

flag is sufficient. It is far enough off track with the yellow zone, it

is unlikely that somebody else will end up there. Be aware fuel is to

target, but you do not have excess. We are just safe at the moment.

Rosberg having to think about that. This is not as demanding as some

circuits concerning fuel, and we have been told a five-second

opinionty -- penalty for Fernando Alonso. It has been confirmed. He

was out of grid position and Fernando Alonso is now in sixth and

will have to do a drive through. He has had a drive through here in the

past at Silverstone when he lost a good result. Bottas making a move on

Magnussen. I think he has completed it. That brings Bottas up into

fourth position. Williams have had a horrible weekend, can Valtteri

Bottas reclaim some honour? Driving well at the moment, David. He is, a

tidy race. Finding his way through. He has kept it clean and using the

advantage of what is a well-performing Williams car. It is

critical. Copy that, watch the track limits in turn 9. So Nico Hulkenberg

struggling for grip and he is being told, well just watch for running

out of road. He said it has a lot of understeer, so it is probably hard

to keep it within the white lines. The wind will be affecting him. At

those high speed corners. We are watching Jules Bianchi and Pastor

Maldonado and Sergio Perez and Bianchi has been pushed down the

order and he is in 15th. Fernando Alonso on Magnussen. He is side by

side and I think he has done it and he is through. Fernando Alonso takes

another place. That was an attacking dive. Sebastian Vettel also making a

move. I think that was on... Let's look at that. I think it might have

been on his team mate. Daniel Ricciardo has come into the pit.

Maybe he knew he was coming in. It is showing here on the tracker.

There is Daniel Ricciardo. He has made his pit stop. It is a later pit

stop than his team mate. He goes out on the hard compound tyre I believe.

No, let's just see, he was on the hard tyre. He goes on to the medium

compound tyre. He is now on the favoured tyre. Daniel Ricciardo

rejoins in tenth. He is behind Adrian Sutil and ahead of Jean-Eric

Vergne. The incident involving Pastor Maldonado and Esteban

Gutierrez will be investigated after the race we are being told, that

collision we saw, with a bit of air-borne flying from Pastor

Maldonado. Rosberg leads by 3.8 seconds from Lewis Hamilton. Ham

taking a further half a second out of him on this lap. The gap would be

down to just a bit over three seconds. That is a slow lap from

Rosberg. Lewis Hamilton does the fastest lap of the race.

Rosberg. Lewis Hamilton does the Vettel ahead on a two-stop. So let's

settle down and try and make this one work. Side by side Bottas and

Jenson Button. He has got himself up into third, getting past Jenson

Button, who fought as hard as he could, but he is aware of not losing

too much time and still scoring decent points. Not comparable the

two cars. Button the last time was seven tenth slower than Bo us the.

-- Bottas. He can only race with the car he has got. Bottas up into

third, having started 14th. Here is how he did it. Around the outside

and then he loves that outside line. He has. Jenson Button could have let

the car run wide and put him under pressure. But in the end lets him do

-- lets him go. Nico Rosberg is being told he is being hunted down

by his team mate. Lewis Hamilton has taken an extra tenth out of him

another tenth of a second in the second sector. Lewis, you're the

fastest man on track. So push hard now Nico. It won't be long. We are

ready for the pit stop. Is he coming this lap. It sounds like it might be

one more. This is where he has to keep his cool. He will be aware that

Lewis Hamilton is going more quickly. Lewis Hamilton takes nearly

four tenth of a second. The gap under three seconds. Lewis Hamilton

on the charge as we look at Daniel Ricciardo making the move on Adrian

Sutil. This was for eighth, ninth place a moment ago. Adrian Sutil in

tenth. But Sauber have yet to score any points this year. Lewis three

tenth faster. It is hammer time! Nico Rosberg comes into the pits.

The race leader comes in and Lewis Hamilton comes through final

quarter. He has got to push like mad now. It is a real opportunity to

further close the gap on Nico Rosberg. Nico Rosberg in and let's

whach the - ewatch the pit stop. Here the team are tested. Can they

keep it quick and smooth? Yes, they can. That was beautiful work. 2.7

seconds for Nico Rosberg. A lot of clean race track for him to rejoin.

Bottas in third is just coming through the break --braking zone.

Rosberg right into clean air. Fernando Alonso now begins to close

up on Jenson Button. He will have a look. But no, he locks out that left

front. But won't make it easy for him. As they come through now. It

could be a chance to get the run. Look how tightly they hugs. A gear

box problem. Gear box problem on the down shift says Rosberg. Rosberg has

not yet had a non-finish this year. The reliability has been all been on

his side of the garage. It is Lewis Hamilton that has had the problems.

Could this be the first inkling that Rosberg has a mechanical problem? He

has just done a good middle sector. So no evidence yet that it is

slowing him down. Lewis Hamilton again staying out of it and getting

closer to Chilton ahead of him. It would be, well there is a good

indication, Rosberg on the fresher tyres 38.6. Lewis Hamilton has found

his way past Chilton. It would be interesting to see if that cost him

any time. It is a great run by Lewis Hamilton and he could be building a

real challenge for the race win. But we are on different strategies. We

are continuing to look at the problem, Nico, no information at the

moment. It is still not slowing him down too much. As we can see from

our times. On board with Daniel Ricciardo. He is in ninth and

chasing Nico Hulkenberg again. Both of them of course were battling

earlier on, but Daniel Ricciardo has made a pit stop and Huck hub has

stayed out -- Nico Hulkenberg has stayed out. Force India like to go

deep in to the race. Perhaps they want to make it a one-stop race.

Look at the Force India is struggling for grip compared to the

Red Bull. I think it would be easier for Daniel Ricciardo to get past on

fresher tyres. He uses the DRS and this time it is ease groer take the

position and that -- easier to take the position and that takes him

past. Lewis Hamilton still staying out. A real contrast in strategy

between the two Mercedes team mates in terms of how long they're going.

Let's take another look at this, David. Well slip stream, DRS,

overtake. Very simple. He would like it if it was always like that. It

looks as though Lewis Hamilton will be coming in on this lap. And the

hard tyres being prepared for Lewis Hamilton. So using the different

tyre here, he may well go for a short stint perhaps on the harder

tyre. Or is he going for the one-stop and going through to the

end. When Rosberg made the stop and came out 16.2 seconds behind Lewis

Hamilton. Oh it is a slow stop. 4.1 seconds. He may well try to get to

the end of the race on this set of tyres now. 25 laps. We are almost at

half distance. Rosberg going through followed by the Marussia. If he is

doing one stop, when Rosberg makes his next stop. It is all about the

gap between them. Rosberg has got to continue to push. There is no doubt

the tyres should do it on wear. They won't wear out before the end. Where

was the delay? Was it the right rear? Right rear. Took a bit of time

there to try and work out. Or left rear. Depends which way you're

looking! So Lewis Hamilton has rejoined and he is in second on the

harder compound tyre and they're on different strategies. The last two

laps. Understood. Doing a great job. Telling tales on Alonso. Yes. You

have got to try and send a message and defend your corner. A sneaky

move. He saw the door open. Magnussen, he was very slow of the

acceleration there. A bit of a difficult moment for Magnussen, who

drops down to seventh place. That is in Brooklands. Magnussen a bit wide.

drops down to seventh place. That is I don't suspect he thought it would

happen in the middle of the corner. He was probably setting it up for

the run out TEAM RADIO: Don't worry about the

pit stops, guys. Let's get a good one next one. That implies he's not

going all the way. Let's wait and see exactly what they decide to do

here. It will depend a bit on the performance of the car over these

next few laps. Ferrari preparing for Alonso. He comes in after chasing

Button full lap after lap. But has stayed out there. There are

brand-new medium tyres to go on. Ferrari ran the hard tyre at the

beginning of the Grand Prix. It's horribly slow will stop the five

second penalty there, that's why they couldn't touch the car. That

was for him being out of position on the grid. He's lost time as a result

of the penalty. But he now on a pretty good tyre. Hulkenberg has

just gone through. May be able to get to the end on this tyre. He may

be struggling in the last few laps but it is possible.

He made an error, followed the car in front and was out of position by

half a car length. They weren't allowed to touch the

car for five seconds. There's another message come up on our

screens that he's been given a black and white flag, Alonso. That's

presumably for exceeding track limits too often. If he does it

again, he will get another penalty. Hulkenberg ahead. He's got a good

exit but not quite enough... Or is it? He gets past the Force India.

That brings Alonso back up into eighth place. Again, making the

moves through the field as quickly as possible. Force India didn't have

a particularly fast car here on Friday when they did their simulated

race run. They've done a lot of laps on those tyres, he's yet to come

into the pits. Hulkenberg doing what Magnussen did earlier in the race,

once he realised the momentum was with the Ferrari he backed out of

it. It saved him running off the circuit. Hamilton took nine tenths

of a second out of Rosberg last lap around. Magnussen has come into the

pits for McLaren. This presumably will be to go on to the hard tyre.

He does. This presumably also is a one-stop race. That is his stock

made, now he needs to keep these tyres alive, which you should be

able to do fairly straightforwardly, as he rejoins the fray again.

Magnussen pulling out behind Alonso. Magnussen out in eighth position.

Hamilton just eating up the lap time again. He's on to be a second

quicker than Rosberg. Button, the gap to Vettel was down to 1.1

seconds. He will be under pressure soon. He must be feeling the

pressure a bit now, as Hamilton continues to close the gap. It was

four seconds, it's much less than that on this lap. 1.9, he took over

two seconds out of his team-mate on just one lap. Nico Rosberg with a

bit of traffic to deal with. Not just traffic, he's clearly got a

problem. Look at his hand on the wheel.

TEAM RADIO: Consider slowing me down to get me to the finish line.

Hamilton takes the lead again from Rosberg. He leads the British Grand

Prix with his team-mate in trouble. Stuck in fifth gear. Hamilton is in

front. His big rival is in trouble here. Poor reliability has afflicted

Hamilton a couple of times this year. It seems to be Nico Rosberg

Vase turn here at the British Grand Prix. Remember, a 29 point lead

coming into this race for Rosberg. If he fails to finish, and he may

still get some points, Button in by the way, but if he failed to finish

the gap would come down to just four points between Rosberg and Hamilton,

and reignite Hamilton's hopes for the 2014 title. Button in for his

one and presumably only stop of this race. He's on the hard tyre. Rosberg

in big trouble. Trying to get the gear. It is too high speed section

for him to drive through there with the wounded car. Sensibly pulls off

onto the grass while he tries to work on this issue, to try to get

this car back to the pits. It doesn't want to work. Nico I

understand your frustration. TEAM RADIO: Having problems with the

gearbox, please advise. Wii menu ten to eight, leave it in eighth. That

message doesn't seem to be working. Last year, he inherited the lead

from Sebastian Vettel when his gearbox broke. This time, Nico

from Sebastian Vettel when his Rosberg is not going to take

back-to-back victories at Silverstone. It has all gone wrong.

We've also been denied a race which is sad, because Hamilton was on such

a charge, we could have had a brilliant climax to this Grand Prix.

Sadly, Rosberg is out and Hamilton now has it all to himself, as long

as he has reliability. He has pulled off, that's the safest thing to do.

I didn't see whether he was behind the barrier. Listen to this. The

problem was on the downshift into the village corner. He did well to

get it from there all the way round the circuit. Hamilton was able to

drive past as he came through The Loop and onto the Wellington

Straight. Almost the same place Hamilton made him go through in

qualifying, Rosberg went on to take pole. This time it is reversed.

Hamilton takes the lead of the Grand Prix, to the delight of the fans.

Interesting how Mercedes were so stronger by ability wise...

TEAM RADIO: Nico has had to stop. Nico Rosberg climbing out of the car

now. His hopes up back-to-back victories over here at Silverstone.

His lead in the championship will be massively reduced if Hamilton

continues where he is right now. TEAM RADIO: Vettel is on the old

used option, he needs to stop again. In reality, we are still P2, so keep

your head down and wait until you get to the end. Information

therefore Bottas. Don't worry too much about the fact that Vettel is

that the fact that Vettel is up ahead of you once more. We are

expecting Ricciardo to stop as well. That will drop the Red Bulls into

the clutch is potentially of McLaren. Alonso was just under three

seconds behind Button at the moment, not as close as he was in the

earlier stages of the Grand Prix. We could once again see that rivalry

renewed between Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. Nico Rosberg

returns to the pits. It's all over for him today, no points to be

scored from the British Grand Prix on this occasion.

The Williams on for a great result if they can hold it all together.

What a pick me up that would be. Suzi Wolf, in the middle of the shot

there, looking so delighted for Bottas. That was the car she drove

on Friday morning. It only lasted four laps before the engine let go,

but right now that car is going extremely well. He is in second

position. Into the pits comes Vettel. The final stop for him.

Where will this bring him back out? He will be around Button and Alonso

territory, which could give us a pretty interesting race. Not quite

as quick a stop. Button is going ahead. Alonso and Magnussen are...

He's coming out pretty close with Alonso and Magnussen. Comes out just

ahead of Alonso. Look at Alonso going on the attack. Magnussen

trying to take full advantage. Vettel up against Fernando Alonso,

two of the greats of Formula One. Alonso is honing in like a missile.

He's going to try and go round the outside but Vettel holds the line on

Magnussen. Alonso left the door wide open again but Magnussen didn't

capitalise on that. Alonso always so aware of but only where he is but

where other drivers. Here comes Alonso. Clever stuff by Vettel. He

turns it ahead. Alonso gets past the Red Bull. Magnussen wasn't in a

position to capitalise on that. He seems to have lost a bit of momentum

himself out of Luffield. He did look slow earlier in the Grand Prix.

Whether it's a question of not getting as much recovery, not

getting the drive... Impressive pace from Ferrari. We haven't seen much

of this kind of place so far during the course of the year. Let me tell

you, we are now joined by Mercedes motorsport boss, Toto Wolff. We've

seen what happened to Nico Rosberg, desperately disappointing day for

him. Have you had a chance to speak to him yet? No, we haven't spoken to

him yet. It's clear he is disappointed. Thank you very much.

Fingers crossed for your car that is currently leading in the hands of

Lewis Hamilton. World champion on world champion action here.

Ricciardo to do that, he needs 36 laps on his option tyres. I'm not

sure we've seen anybody go that far. It may well be that Ricciardo

has to stop. The car is using feel, Vettel's best chance... A lot of

extra momentum, but where is Alonso? They are side-by-side. Vettel still

hasn't made it through. This is wonderful. Alonso in the Ferrari,

fifth place. He nearly lost it there to Sebastian Vettel. Great racing

from these two. Vettel got himself exactly where he needed to be, got

the slipstream, got the DRS. He's now got to try and do it all again

through Becketts. It's a lot more difficult to do.

TEAM RADIO: I would have crashed into him. Understood. Frustration

coming through in Sebastian's voice. I didn't see anything untoward in

what we saw. I think you may be referring to this point here. He

tried to do is the key pass on the corner. He tried to sneak up the

inside and then Alonso moves back for his line. Hamilton into the pits

now. This should be a pretty standard pit stop. They had planned

a two-stop strategy for Lewis Hamilton. He is in now, having run

the car on that stint quite smoothly, quite easily in the end.

Such is his lead, Bottas is just exiting Becketts onto the Hangar

Straight. You do feel they may well have been able to get to the end an

of tyres, it's probably precautionary. Sometimes you've got

to be careful. Sometimes just because it's new doesn't mean it's

better. It's like Jenson for McLaren a few years ago when the wheel came

off and he was set for a good result.

Magnussen is not far behind him. He definitely went all four wheels over

there. That's a bit of an interesting one. Christian, we've

been hearing both your driver and Alonso's complaining about each

other going over track limits. What is the story, are they likely to be

in trouble? This looks as closer as we've been here. Let's see what

Sebastian does here. We just can't get close enough on the straights.

He's having a go. Alonso just shut the door on him again. He's up the

inside now. He's got a chance here. It's side-by-side, this is

brilliant! Good boy, good boy! Sebastian Vettel

has done it. TEAM RADIO: It's happening again,

he's not moving out of the way, he's launching me off the track.

go on this set of tyres. He will try to get to the end. We are four or

five laps s to go. Jenson Button is looking for his first podium at

Silverstone, how can you be so cruel? He is not driving for our

team! Let's see what happens in the last few laps. Thank you for joining

us. This was amazing. How close were they without actually touching? This

is a great example between world class drivers who know exactly the

limit and some of those who often are not are over that limit and have

contact. On this lap of course I wonder if Alonso is keeping score. I

bet he was right opt -- right on the radio right away. But look at that

reaction. It was great to have Christian with us. Yes, he was very

calm. He was listening and commentating on what the drivers

were doing. Leave us to get all excited! It is the DRS. The DRS on

turn five and out of turn nine. He is saying he used the DRS that

Sebastian Vettel used the DRS in areas that you're not allowed to.

Which seems unlikely. He was saying it out out of turn five and nine. If

he had a car in front he was entitled to do so on turn nine. That

is not a DRS activation zone. Fernando Alonso might be just

looking at any opportunity to find a reason why Sebastian Vettel should

get a penalty. It is all part of psychological warfare of sport.

Sebastian Vettel is in fifth and chasing Jenson Button. He has

brought the gap down to Daniel Ricciardo. It is 5. 7 seconds, but

he is running out of laps. Bottas pulled a result back for Williams.

He needs to give up the position. I think he is expecting Sebastian

Vettel to give it up. I don't think this a likely. There could be some

interesting discussions after, as Nico Rosberg speaks to Toto Wolff.

More than one second a lap faster than Daniel Ricciardo. The gap is

down to 4.1 seconds. But he only has two laps to do it. At a second a lap

it is not enough. He has not had a two laps to do it. At a second a lap

lot of luck on this track. 14 times previously, not managed to get opt

podium. -- on the podium. It has been a tough place for him over the

years. But he is driving his heart out and still getting massive

support from the the crowd all the way. Can he do anything about Daniel

Ricciardo in the closing stages. Up front of course, lament is still

leading this -- Lewis Hamilton is still leading this Grand Prix and

there have been no reliability problems so far. Just two laps to

go. Valtteri Bottas for Williams, in what has been a difficult weekend.

With another accident here today. Bottas has put the problems behind

him. He only qualified #149 after they -- 14th after they

miscalculated the conditions. I can smell something. I can smell

something burning. Maybe it is Pastor Maldonado he can smell.

Pastor Maldonado smoking away. He is in 14th and that looks like an oil

haze. I looked like he was chucking bits of metal out of the car. He is

out again. We are on lap 51 out of 52 now. The gap has reduced. There

is the battle for third. Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull. Jenson

Button getting cloers. The unioning thats -- getting closer. The Union

flags are waving. I don't think Jenson Button will be able to do it.

Exercise caution. Sector 3, maybe some oil down. Pastor Maldonado

stopped turn one, there is a yellow there. Lewis Hamilton being told to

be careful. Jenson Button's taken another six tenths out of Daniel

Ricciardo. Daniel Ricciardo is trying to manage the situation as

much as possible and Lewis Hamilton is on his final lap. But those two

will have to go further before they get to the flag. Lewis's father just

watching the monitors. It looks as though it is going to be the dream

result. His brother keeping an eye on things as well. It is exactly six

years to the very day since Lewis Hamilton took his first British

Grand Prix win. And this date is surely going to become one of his

favourites, because it looks as if it is heading his way once more.

What a superb drive. We were denied of the race we wanted to see of

course between himself and Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, the way he was

going, there is no doubt we would have had a huge battle for the

victory here. But fair play to Lewis, he has been unUK lucky --

unlucky on a couple of occasions this season. In Australia the car

broke down and in Canada, he suffered a failure. Two zero scores

to go along with the four victories. But it has come back his way and the

crowd beginning to enjoy and eseparate the moment. Lewis Hamilton

-- celebrate the moment. Lewis Hamilton coming through the last

couple of corners and Lewis Hamilton is going to win the British Grand

Prix! He wins for the second time. It is his 27th career win. To match

Jackie Stewart and that is a wonderful achievement. A double

winner at Silverstone. What a special, special moment it is for

Lewis Hamilton. After a tough day in qualifying and a series of difficult

weekends, he is half out of qualifying and a series of difficult

celebration. As he father said, what you see is what you get with Lewis,

heart on the slooefr stuff. This has got to be one of his most satisfying

victories. Bottas takes second. Daniel Ricciardo holds on to third.

Jenson Button just 0.8 of a second behind. How cruel is that. But a

great drive from both of them. Sebastian Vettel finishes in fifth.

Fernando Alonso is sixth. You can't touch this Lewis, home Grand Prix

win. Beautiful work! Lap it up boy sclap England! What a great feeling

guys. I couldn't be happier. I'm sorry about yesterday. But a

fantastic job today this weekend and thank you. Lewis Hamilton is taking

a while to get another victory here, but it just makes it even more

special and Mercedes again on top, despite the reliability problems for

Nico Rosberg. So that was the 27th victory for Lewis Hamilton. 25 point

toss for him. -- points -- 25 points for him.

Mercedes are still leading the constructors' Championship. But look

at that midfield battle. Williams above ahead of Force India. Sorry

yesterday, I was so speechless, just in myself. But today just that whole

experience of going from one end of spectrum to the other, turning

negatives into positives, a big thank you to my family for their

support and a huge thank you to all the fans. Because they really made

the difference this weekend and that is why I was so disappointed

yesterday. I could see them and hear them all and just there is nothing

better than being able to give them this win. Really happy, we didn't

expect to be so strong in this race. Yesterday was so tough and we

started from 14th, 15th. Obviously a shame for Felipe in his 20th Grand

Prix, didn't go that well. But we still got some good points. We saw

it in the beginning of the race already after five or six, seven

laps. We have a pace here. This is the best third place I have got. I'm

not normally ecstatic with a third, but I am today. To redeem myself for

yesterday. Also that I don't think we had an awesome race card, but we

made it work. We sort of used the cards that we had well and we played

the game well. So really happy to make one stop work and the option at

the end, I think we did 37 or 38 laps. That was good fun. I gave it

my all, but it is always tough when the engineer says give it your your

all, but you have got a fuel save. So it is, you're kidding me. So it

was tricky. But that was it. Maximum I think we did good. The option tyre

was more difficult and the prime tyre was better. I was able to put

some time into Fernando. It is difficult when cars come past you

like you're stood still. The Mercedes and the Williams. But

everyone else we could fight. It was six long years for Lewis to win the

British Grand Prix again, but the fans appreciated that. After the

disappointment of qualifying, where he pulled off from the lap, he was

able to go away and come back with a focus and the power of the people

around the track seemed to will him on. You could see that in his lap

times as he was hunting Nico Rosberg. In the end it was an easy

win, but an emotional one and one he will be proud to have added that to.

He looked very proud and that luck seemed to switch. Not so much for

Nico Rosberg. Balancing the Championship out. Yes, only four

points between them. That is what we love, two guys, very different

personalities and styles, Lewis has made arguably more mistakes in

qualifying, but has delivered good racing and he has been one race more

unliability than Rossburg. But that is going to be a key factor later

with this new hybrid technology. A podium, Valtteri Bottas was

incredible and Daniel Ricciardo. Fernando Alonso never gives up.

incredible and Daniel Ricciardo. made a mistake object starting -- on

the starting grid and got a five-second penalty. You would want

him in your team any day of the week. When you had Lewis and

Fernando together in McLaren it was always going to be fireworks but you

knew they would take the cars to the limit. That battle between Fernando

and Sebastian guz extraordinary and there was a lot of bickering going

on. It was good in an entertainment point of view. It shows there is a

respect, it is not a friendship. It will be sbrefrsing to see how --

interesting to see how it unfolds. We are back in two weeks for the

German Grand Prix. This a all we have time for from Silverstone and
