The Italian Grand Prix Formula 1

All the historic motorsport buildings in Italy, this old Fiat

factory has got to be one of the iconic. We are right in the heart of

Turin, we are at the top of one of the most iconic buildings, the Fiat

test facility. This classic old banking. You have a sense of the

importance of the motor vehicle to the Italians. They were great

creators. Not just their cars, go back many centuries in time, Rome,

the great buildings, great architects. They had this great

affection for beauty and something that pleases the eye. That

eventually came to their cars. What a perfect place for us ahead of the

Italian Grand Prix to start our journey. If you more to play with as

well. -- a few more. Here we go, we are approaching the

famous banking. Ah! It feels extraordinary. Having gotten this

close, it feels a bit weird. Get off! You are a liability!

Formula One, here we come. I ticked off one of my bucket lists. You are

that is. Is it just me, or are Italian

cars... You have to be sitting so close with your legs to be able to

reach the steering will with your arms? Is it because you have short

legs? No, that is me, David is a bit of an orangutan.

As we go towards the last European race, your standout performers? And

who is the disappointment of the season? I was expecting a better

season from Sebastian Vettel. Great to see Valtteri Bottas at William

start to emerge. Ricciardo, the way he has lit up the press, he is the

standout. Ferrari need to be competing for race victories every

season. They have not looked even close to winning a Grand Prix this

year. Ahead of us you can see the arch of peace, gentlemen. Will we

see the two Mercedes drivers in conversation with Toto Wolff? Not

grow much peace in that team. We are much to say we are excited but I am

really excited. -- not much peace. We will be on the old banking of

Monza in Italian cars, how good is that? Look how steep it is. This is

ridiculous. I am a bit scared, I am sliding down the banking. Wow, look

at this! LAUGHTER I am not sure I can get out of here.

is very spectacular. Let's hope for a spectacular race today, welcome to

The sun is shining in magical Monza, I had no idea it would be that

steep, David. It is incredibly steep. The camera doesn't do it

justice. When we were riding the cars along the top were squirming,

going along the way the top of the bank. Leather shoes on banking is

quite difficult. Not good. I looked quite foolish, I am not proud of

myself. I noticed your Wolverhampton accent. That came through nice and

strong. Let's have a wander through the pit lane. This place has been on

the calendar since the Formula One World Championship started in 1950.

Only once did it go to allow for safety reasons it is passionate.

They can never take it off the calendar, can they? Four races must

never leave the annual Formula One calendar, Silverstone, Monaco, here

and Spa. That is how good it is, it gives me a tingle every time I come

in the door, just as spectacular, wonderful track. It certainly is.

Plenty to talk about, the Mercedes jewel which went to another level

and Spa, it seems to be quite calm. Before we go any further let's take

a look back at qualifying yesterday. -- Mercedes duel. The crowd were

hoping for a miracle from Ferrari at home ground but the team failed to

deliver. Kimi Raikkonen was the first of the drivers to disappoint,

he suffered from front locking in Q2 and could only manage 12th fastest.

Lap times were not better for Fernando Alonso, he made it through

to Q3 but will line up only seventh to be the highest placed car without

a Mercedes power unit. A better showing from McLaren. Both cars

qualified in the top six in dry conditions for the first time this

year. The resurgence Williams team had a genuine shot at pole position

but they had to settle for rogue two with Mercedes looking at the front

row for the sixth time this season -- two. Inch perfect by Lewis

Hamilton edged out team-mate Nico Rosberg. Ending a war sequence of

qualifying session and getting him as first pole position since Spain

eight races ago -- poor sequence of qualifying sessions. Hamilton and

Rosberg will lead the field with Valtteri Bottas best of the rest

ahead of team-mate Felipe Massa. Kevin Magnussen out-qualify Jenson

Button for the seventh time this year as both McLarens made the third

row Dutchman outqualified. To time Monza win a Fernando Alonso is next.

-- two time Monza winner. Daniel Ricciardo is going for a hat-trick

of wins this afternoon. Templated penalty for using a 6 engine means

Kimi Raikkonen moves up to heaven ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne.

Hulkenberg qualified 12th here. But 12 months ago. -- qualified here 12

months ago. Another poor showing from Lotus.

Daniil Kvyat's penalty means he drops to 21st. Marcus Ericsson is in

the pit lane after ignoring safety flags. A strong day yesterday for

Williams. We are joined by Deputy team printable Claire Williams. It

was a good day. -- team principal. How it you feeling about race

settings today? A bit scared. You look under pressure. There is

expectation on the team for what ever reason. We have a good

opportunity, this is a track that suits our car. The Mercedes power

unit as well. The guys have locked out the second row. I hope they have

a great race. I am secretly hoping Lewis and Nico take each other out

in the first corner. LAUGHTER Have told Pat if you do make it part

of our strategy, that. Would be great -- I have told. Talking about

the two guys in front of you, how pleasing is it that Mercedes have

come out and said we fear Williams, particularly on the straight? You

have the best aerodynamic car in. Terms of speed surely you have a big

advantage to take the fight to them. -- in terms of speed. It is

great to hear that from Mercedes, they are a class act, a class of

their own at the moment. To hear they are threatened by us is great.

But they are ahead of us. We chipped away at their advantage. We have to

see what we can do in the race. I still fear the Mercedes are going to

go off into the distance a bit. The other teams that are running the

Mercedes power unit will be strong, we saw the McLarens strong in

qualifying yesterday and practice on Friday. Is it fair to say strategy

is limited, it looks like it will be 1-stop, what can you do if you don't

get away off the line and get the jump of the Mercedes? They have to

get their heads down as do the best they can do, defend their positions

what happens. For us, he and every race, it may sound boring, but it is

always about the Constructors' for us. To score as many points as we

can and take PIII Ferrari is our objective. We are only ten points

behind, we will see what we can do -- take P three.

This must be the first time in many years you have turned up at the

Italian Grand Prix not as a Ferrari driver, you don't have the red

carpet you have the faster car. Yet, we not read any more. -- red any

to do everything we can in the perfect way, maybe we can be on the

podium. How much would a podium mean? You have re-signed for

Williams next season, fantastic. The fans still as my everything you have

achieved it is important for me and the team, we are fighting for

Ferrari. If we can get on the podium and school a good amount of points

it is fantastic for the championship. We are looking forward

to doing the second part of the season in a good way, to score more

points than Ferrari that is a target today. Have a great race.

Interesting. He was on his way to the drivers parade. Williams have

announced both drivers today, no surprise, they are driving for the

next year, peppered season so far for Massa. Is he the right choice

for Williams next year? I do, he is a super nice person and he sued that

team particularly well. With his experience? -- he suits. He has had

a big influence on Bottas coming to the top. If Bottas had somebody much

more robust and harder in terms of that role, you might not have

flourished as much as he has. Beyond doubt one of the rookies of the

year, not a rookie but one standing at along with Ricciardo as being

possibly the two inspirations of this year driver wise. Do you feel

the same way about Terry Bottas? A very valid point that Eddie makes.

Aluko Massa has a huge amount of experience. -- about Valtteri

Bottas. Rob Smedley, his race engineer from Ferrari. Couple that

together with the raw speed that Valtteri has, they have a great

lament and team spirit. Felipe is a team player. With Valtteri being

confirmed, they are in good shape going forward, which is what

Williams had been planning to come out of the doldrums. They have been

in a terrible place a couple of years ago.

It has been huge turnaround this year. Let's look at the

championship. Valtteri Bottas currently fifth but the storm is

that the front. Nico Rosberg has 29 points in hand ahead of Lewis

Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton has only led the way once this season after

Spain, when he was three points clear but with seven races are

mining and double points at the final event in Abu Dhabi, anything

is possible. Daniel Ricciardo is not to be discounted, sitting pretty in

third. Red Bull are playing catch up on the constructors table and have a

long way to go to get anywhere close to Mercedes, who totally control the

championship. Third spot is hotly contested, Ferrari currently leading

Williams by ten points as Claire said but that could change here at

Monza today. MUSIC: "The Self-Preservation

Society". Fernando Alonso, of course, and you

can't come to Monza without looking and thinking about Ferrari. The

tifosi are here in force, the bubbly not going to get what they would

like to, today but it is so passionate with the fans. The thing

about it is, this is different to any other circuit and any other

country. It is the team that has been embraced by the people. They

have not had a world champion for more than 50 years. That is

ridiculous, when you think about that, yet they have had

Constructors' Championships and that is what brings the people, Ferrari,

Ferrari, Ferrari. That is the draw and the magnetism may have. There

was a lot of kerfuffle yesterday when the President, Luca di

Montezemolo, turned up amid all the rumours that perhaps he was going to

announce that he was going to retire. He did everything you would

expect in to do, talking to the fans, shouting across the pit lane,

and here, we can see him with Fernando Alonso. What do you make of

that? He does not design a car or drive the car. I don't want to

undermine the importance of Luca di Montezemolo, he was there, implored

by Enzo Ferrari, oversaw them coming to a dominant period, where he won

multiple World Championships with Michael Schumacher as a driver. He

has got to headhunt the right people. He has got the right driver

but how have they not quite managed to get the other people in place

since Ross Brawn and people like that dropped away? Eddie would maybe

have a slightly different view on this but I think it is almost like a

circus surrounding him, which does not seem to play any part in the

discipline structure of trying to win grands prix. That is the

impressive distraction, just concentrate on getting winning

designers, good engineers and the rest will follow, with good drivers.

He announced he was not going to retire, so what are your thoughts?

He needs to get his team in order. The way we are talking, there is no

real responsibility on him but there is absolutely total responsibility

on him. He is the president, responsible for bringing to this

team, Ferrari, the great name, the best people. He has failed to do

that. Ferrari have one here 18 times in the past, a record. We have some

beautiful pictures for you. This was 50 years ago when John Surtees won

the championship. This is him winning in Monza. Beautiful images.

He raced against the likes of Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, and that is

Graham Hill on the grid, there. Not a good day for him, he did not get

away. John Surtees had success, and a winner in Italy is with going to

go down well with the Italian fans and he's in the paddock today. Just

ten races in those days and it was very different. It was, and it is

nice to see Graham Hill on the front row of the grid, and they ran either

side of him. I would not want to see that here today. Back to John

Surtees, a legend in my book and in most people's. Anyone who can drive

and have the passion of driving, not just winning the championship with

Ferrari but doing it with an Italian motorbike as well, absolute legend.

Completely. It does not look of the -- look as though Fernando Alonso's

podium from last year will be repeated with the top teams being so

strong this weekend but arguably the strongest man on the grid yesterday

was Lewis Hamilton. Let's hear from him now.

Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position! This must be the happiest

Saturday night at a racetrack you have had for a very long time. Since

Spain, this is the first clean Saturday you have had, since May. It

is a long time, isn't it? It has been a nice Saturday. I have really

and join it has been a nice Saturday. I have really and toilet.

To have the whole of P-3 and get through qualifying, and get -- I

have really enjoyed it. To have the whole of P-3 and get through

qualifying, and finish on publishing is very satisfying. You look more

relaxed than I have seen you for a while. What is it down to? Age?

Experience? I hope it is not age but through all those experiences, for

sure, I am maturing and I will continue to make mistakes, do and

say the wrong things, sometimes but I will continue to grow through

those experiences. This year with all the pressure and everything that

has gone on, I have learned to recover from things a bit quicker,

and bounce back. You have been hugely supported and you have said

all the right things publicly. How big conversation was that after Spa

between you and the team and yourself and Nico? It was not really

that big, to be honest. That week, I was with some friends and came to

Italy and I got the message that day, as I got there, that I had to

fly to England the next day. I was asking if we could do it on Skype

but I was needed that. I got to the meeting and initially, it was just

me and Paddy and Toto, and it was no different to the meetings we have

here. It was worry relaxed, generally. Of course, it was a

serious thing. -- very relaxed. Then we had a bigger meeting but it was

relaxed again and the end result was they left it to us to race. I said,

"you brought me all the way here to tell me that? I could be chilling,

sipping a Pina colada! " It was quite relaxed but of course it was a

serious issue. Ultimately, the team has the potential to be one of the

most accessible teams, and the decisions and the things we do

moving forward reflect on the team. In terms of the trust you have with

Mercedes, have you always felt their support? Has there been a moment

this season when you doubted that the team were backing you? I have

never felt that the team has not backed me. I felt, I'm sure, back in

Monaco, a bit weird, like it was only me that saw it a certain way,

and everyone else saw it a different way but it was OK, we moved on.

Generally, the team has been fantastic. I have no felt so good in

a team. You mentioned Monaco and the stewards did not see a problem with

what happened there, or inspire. Do you see a problem with what happened

there? Have you forgiven Nico for these situations? It is not a case

of forgiveness. It is in the past and there is no point running on

these things. I can't go back and change it. All I can do is shape the

future. Do you trust him going forward? It is not really a question

of that. On the track, you have to have respect and hope that the guys

around you respect you enough to not crashing to you or cause you any

trouble. -- crash into you. I have had incident in the past and I can't

go into the next race wondering what happens if it happens again. You

have to think it will not happen again. In terms of this season, it

was evident pretty quickly that it was going to be Lewis Hamilton

against Nico Rosberg. In terms of being on the track, in terms of

racing drivers, who is stronger? That is for you and the fans to

decide. It does not matter what I think. I do my talking on the track.

That is what my dad has a ways told me to do. That is our motto, do your

talking on the track. If we ask you the same question about who is

mentally stronger, presumably you would give a similar answer. Nico

Israel strong mentally. Yes, and we think of you as being more

emotional, maybe. I don't know. I hope I have learned to handle not

too badly the things that have gone. 30 points behind, I feel like we can

still win, we can still do this and hopefully I can show some of that

strength. In terms of winning the championship, what do you think it

will come down to ultimately? I would say two things, reliability,

which has been my biggest issue this year. And mental strength, yes,

every weekend, I have to do what I did today, from now on. And every

weekend, I have to do what I hope while can do tomorrow. Lewis

Hamilton, there, talking to us. A couple of moments ago, this was

Lewis, going out in the garage just behind us, onto the track, getting

ready for the Italian Grand Prix. I have to say, David, in that

interview, you looked cool, calm and collected.

And also, as the season has unfolded, the more it has looked

like things were stacked up against him, the more he is looking like he

has in a calm, inner peace. I believe he can only keep doing what

he's doing, all of the things you would tell your kids come all of the

things you would expect motivational books to be telling you. But he

really since that for the first time, he believes in it. -- you

really sense. I think time, he believes in it. -- you

knowledge as well. Psychologically, Nico has the edge and he tried to go

wheel-to-wheel with him and Spa, doing what Lewis has done to him

early in the and he has been chastised and the public reacted to

it negatively. Therefore he knows pretty much in his mind now, every

time it is wheel-to-wheel, he has Nico beaten. Nico has to play to his

strengths, a gate run of pole positions up to this weekend and

consistency in the races but psychologically, he knows he is the

better racer. It was interesting and it is quite interesting to say he is

faster and Nico is mentally it is quite interesting to say he is

which has been said all season. He was right when he said he could go

which has been said all season. He back after a bad day and come back

with a clean slate and that is what he has done. We

regain confidence, coming back. In point, I think. He was so able to

Nigel Mansell, what he used to say about the power of the people. We

as he went out there, probably huge sighs of relief because as they were

trying to fire the car it would not start. He was smiling about it after

the session yesterday but they had to nervous moments. From a driver's

perspective, it must be terrifying, being in the situation where it

might not fire up. They have had a problem with that twice this

weekend. You never want any cups with your preparation, getting the

Kara on track but you have to have such trust in your team. It is an

environment of everyone getting on and doing their jobs. Even if there

is an issue, you get over it because you are working on a situation as

fast as you can and if the time doesn't allow, there you go, that is

motor racing. This is not the first time in anyone's racing career that

they have had issues with reliability but I think it is going

to be something we talk about more as we enter the flyaway races

because the engines are getting up in milage. We have had the Daniil

Kvyat and Toro Rosso take the first engine penalty this weekend and Red

Bull are expecting to get one later in the year. Mercedes have had

hiccups in free practice but largely they have been pretty strong in the

races. It is going to be an issue and it is something we will be

talking about more as the season goes on. Usually, a 1-stop strategy

being mooted but any ideas anyone will do any different? That is not

the word I'm getting, the difference in time between 1-stop and to stop

this afternoon is 12 seconds. If it is two or three seconds, the teams

think of doing something different but this afternoon, it is such a

massive difference, 12 seconds, that they are going to do stop. The

reason is the consistency of the tyre and also the long pit lane.

Thanks, Tom. Let's go onto the grid and find Eddie Jordan. What a

fantastic flurry of activity. We have got Kevin Magnussen. What a

great qualifying yesterday, I know you had a lot of problems in

practice three, but you dragged it up onto fifth in the grid. The car

felt really good in all qualifying. I had some problems with my breaks

in practice. It took my confidence away on the brakes a little bit. In

qualifying, it worked really well. The car was well balanced. I was

able to gain the confidence back and push. And can you match these guys

in front of you on the long run, push hard for the race?

Realistically not but we are in Monza and it is a tight first

corner. Fingers crossed that we have luck with us today. Anyway, we will

do what we can. It is the early thing we can do. Added pressure that

your crown princes here to see what you can do? No, it is his first time

and he will be happy no matter what. We are going to have a little look

around the place. You can see what is happening here. You can see, the

people in the grandstand are so fanatical about what happens here in

Monza. As we have already said, this is one of the four circuits that I

believe must be retained. We are probably going to have another

little look around to see what is available. But in the meantime,...

It is hard to describe, what we did with David yesterday and Suzi, all

the different tracks within the track and how difficult it is, and

the parameters that we are probably go to try to get involved in a bit

of a melee here, and we will see what will happen.

Disguise the four-time world champion. But we have lost out to

Rubens Barrichello. I think that was prearranged. We just want to see who

else is around. The place, as you can imagine, is becoming... I have

got the man, the man who won and he may even talk to us as we go

outside, Daniel, can you repeat the heroics of the last race? Is it a

task too far? I would love to. If I am going to be realistic, it will

probably need a bit more of AmeriCorps around here. We will see

how we go. The aim is to get into the top five and see what happens.

You believe in miracles, don't you? You are an Aussie. Wish you well,

so fast. When DRS happens, these cars could be pushing Mercedes. That

is what a lot of people would like to see. We are going to see if we

can find the man who has just renewed his contract. I'd asked

about grabbed him, Felipe Massa, fantastic news, another season with

this great team. Fantastic news so I hope we can finish the championship

well and prepare the next one. What are you going to do against these

guys? We know you are fast in a straight line so will you push them?

We will try to do the best we can. This could be a real surprise. We

have not seen much of this in recent races. Mercedes coming out publicly,

and saying that they have to worry about Williams. They have

unbelievable straight-line speed. Let's have a word with the two guys

who are actually in the ascendancy. They have locked out the front row.

We know they have had their spats. Personally, I think that has gone to

the moment. I think these drivers will look after each other. Rosberg

is there. I am just going to see if we could get a second with him. He

is just leaving, unfortunately. We will just hang fire, let him go off

and do what he needs to do. Let's come to the front of the grid, here,

and see where Lewis Hamilton's car is.

And by the way, Lee has managed to talk to Nico Hulkenberg. Let's hear

from them. A tougher day than you hoped for yesterday. What can you do

today? I'm not sure. The target is to go forward and make up some

ground. We have some fast cars ahead as well and we need to see how good

the race pace is. Strategy is tight, one stop for everyone? Yes, not much

begs abilities and hopefully it will be enough. I have just got here in

the nick of time, our host broadcaster here. Nicky Lauber, you

have been busy in the last couple of weeks. Tell us what you had to do to

sort out this mess. The mess is sorted out, to answer your question

straight away. We had a good drivers meeting this morning and the

messages are a simple, race against each other but use your heads. This

is what they have got to do today. I am relaxed. We will race like

before. Williams is a big threat to the Mercedes cars. We will fight

them and then they can fight amongst themselves and hopefully a one-two

is what we can achieve. I am sure, as you rightly said, that there will

not be Teemu Pukki -- team orders but they have to respect each other.

What happened in Spa cannot happen again. Were you very tough on them?

Nothing has changed. These things cannot happen. You must race, take

decisions and use your brains, don't crash again. They are both aware of

this and they will not crash. We appreciate your forthrightness.

Toto Wolff, again, Lee has captured him, let's hear from them. We always

ask the driver is how they are feeling, how are your nerves just

before the start of this race? They are OK. Always a bit more tense

before the start of the race, are OK. Always a bit more tense

team, lovely to see them coming back to the front. A bit further to go.

You have renewed your two drivers, that must give great continuity and

satisfaction that you don't have to bed yourself in with new drivers,

does that allow you to go away and does it next year's car? Next

year's car is well underway with the basic decisions. -- and design. We

continuity is worth an awful lot, absolutely. You have been the

surprise package as far as teams are concerned this season, we are

delighted, we wish you every success. We will walk back down the

are an absolute legend in my eyes and everybody else was my eyes,

circuit, 75% of the track is wide open throttle. If we take an

in-depth look at it it is made up of four long straights. Each 1/200 over

200 mph with a maximum speed of 220 mph -- each one is over. 100 metres

every second. It is critical that you have a higher top speed but also

a nice car with bands in the corners. That run from the start-up

mine down to the Turn 1 is even more critical. Historically it has

created a lot of excitement. This is 2013, two Red Bull zombie front

first. He will definitely have to do that today, starting from seventh,

if he will recover something for Ferrari. And four the Tifosi in the

make it work at the start. The all-important start. It looked busy

COMMENTATOR: The final European race of the season brings us to the

wooded parkland of the Royal Park in Monza to attract that has seen more

world champ Richard Grant prix than any other and intense

Fernando Alonso, we know how fast it can be off the line, two wins here

said, this will be one of the toughest times in terms of getting

Marcus Ericsson starts from the pit lane after a yellow flag

infringement in practice yesterday. Everybody desperately waiting to see

what will happen on this post, particularly at the opening lap

between Hamilton and Rosberg. Williams are ready to pick up the

pieces, perhaps. Valtteri Bottas starting in third place. It is the

fifth time he started in the top three on the grid is yet, still up

on Felipe Massa in terms of the qualifying performances. Nico

Rosberg, first-ever front row start, he has never finished on the podium

at Monza in the past. His team-mate, Lewis Hamilton has taken a victory

in 2012. He would love to back that up with another victory here, one

other podium when he finished second two Fernando Alonso, his team-mate,

driving, Darren in 2007. -- driving for McCarron. We expect that to be

very hard-fought contest -- for McLaren. Looking at the tyres, the

majority starting on softer tyres but some people taking more of a

gamble and going for the hard compound including Nico Hulkenberg,

Esteban Gutierrez. Romain Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and market Ericsson,

starting from the pit lane. -- Marcus Ericsson. Ferrari fans in

good voice at Monza as ever. They will cheer on this man in

particular, Fernando Alonso starting from seventh position on the grid.

He has scored points in every single Grand Prix this year, the only

driver to have done that. Two victories here himself. Best result

of second position couple of times this year. The tyre blankets are off

on the two Mercedes on the front row. Hamilton engages his gears.

Practised art is crucial in terms of the team getting some information

that they can help the drivers with and the real start, this formation

lap, just giving them all of those last bits of data and knowledge that

they need to go into the Grand Prix. The formation lap begins here. Track

conditions pretty much ideal, 44 degrees track damage, air temp to

25, a very pleasant day in northern Italy. A perfect day to go racing.

You can see the cars back from the yellow line which defines a marker

for them to see in the cockpit, when they pull up into the grid slot,

they do that so when they get a bit of wheel spin off the line, when

they are doing the formation lap, they put some rubber on the tarmac

which gives them a bit more grip when they pull away. We don't expect

any big separation between the sides of the grid. As we saw Lewis

Hamilton jump Nico Rosberg for pole position in Belgium and lead us into

the controversy a couple of weeks ago, it is entirely possible it

could happen again this afternoon. It is a long rant of the first

corner. We know that at the second chicane, varies a huge run-off area

and they can rejoin. In one of the support races this morning, the guy

challenging for the lead did not manage to do it, went down the

escape route and rejoined in third place. It opens up an opportunity to

the drivers. You normally get a penalty by cutting the corner

effectively but as long as you don't gain an advantage, the risk and

reward might bring up opportunities, especially for the Williams drivers.

If they want to win today, they have to be in front of the Mercedes at

the end of the first lap. It has been a good day for British motor

store -- motorsport today, with two victories in gigabits three and GPT.

We still have the leader in the GB three championship as well. Can

Lewis Hamilton emulate those efforts in the main event? We will find out.

Any late news from Tom in the pit lane? I'm just watching Bernie

Ecclestone and Toto Wolff having a chat, walking all the way down the

pit lane together. They are hiding now. Just a quick word on strategy.

We have six cars on hard times. Pros and cons to that, at the start of

the race, they might be slower away from the grid and it is a long run

to the first time, 630 metres but the pro is in the one pit stop, they

will be blindingly quick when they put the medium tyre on in the middle

of the race. As we say, Nico Hulkenberg, Adrian Sutil, Esteban

Gutierrez, Grosjean, Daniil Kvyat and Magnus Eriksson other once you

have decided to do that. Hamilton and Rosberg showing the front row of

the grid, last time out it was the other way round but Lewis Hamilton

may be better start from second place. The start is crucial. It has

been pretty much even Stevens between them this year but let's see

who gets off the line best. Williams right behind with the same Mercedes

power unit, of course, so in theory, the same ability to get off

the line. Behind them, two more Mercedes powered cars, the McLaren

Broad, and then the Ferrari of Alonso and the first Renault powered

car on the grid is Sebastian Vettel, starting in eighth. Some work to be

done as we confirmed the line-up at the top end of the grid. Hamilton

into position. No backing up this time. Perfectly positioned with his

front left wheel absolutely on the yellow line. There is a proximity

sensor in the tarmac, and one inside the chassis of the car. That is how

Charlie Whiting knows that the cars are in position, the race director.

It also indicate if a car starts to move before the lights go out. We

have one car starting for the pit lane, the second caterer, Marcus

Ericsson, who has to wait for everyone else to go past the pit

exit before he can join in the fun and games. The last car just moving

the 65th Italian Grand Prix in the World Championship. Lights out and

away we go. The battle between the Mercedes team-mate is on and Rosberg

has made a great start! Hamilton is being swamped, passed by tee

Williams, and the car on the outside as well. Valtteri Bottas, a McLaren

coming through in second, Kevin Magnussen, into second place, as

Nico Rosberg makes an absolutely meteoric getaway. There's a bit of

action over the kerbs but they have gone through, Kevin Magnussen into

second place is astonishing. Rosberg has gone away this time and Hamilton

has got some work to do. He's in fourth place. It is going to be in

fourth place. It is going to being credibly difficult for him to come

back from that. Kevin Magnussen, it is going to be a mobile chicane,

good straight-line speed but not as quick as the Mercedes or the

Williams in front. Jenson Button keeping parents behind him and

Alonso tried to go around the outside of the Mexican and gain

ground. Nico Hulkenberg has had a good start, up to ninth, but Alonso

in eighth, so he has not had the study would have liked. Behind him,

Peretz and Hulkenberg. Valtteri Bottas has dropped down to 10th,

Bottas, who started on the second row, is in 12th. We believe the

message from those was to say that his energy recovery system is not

working. That is going to affect him massively in terms of the

like it. You would think he would be really struggling with straight-line

speed that was the case but it might be part of the recovery phase. Kimi

Hulkenberg, Valtteri Bottas still in 11th, in the fast Williams, and

Daniel Ricciardo in 12th. The winner of the last two Grand Prix, way down

the field as well. DRS is enabled and this should see some

opportunities to enable overtakes but Felipe Massa cannot do anything

about the McLaren of Kevin Magnussen just yet. And Hamilton is doing a

great job if he's got an issue on the car, running 0.7 seconds slower

than Rosberg. We know from the interview with Lee, he said

reliability would decide the championship. If they have had a

reliability issue of the line as the Williams tries to get in position,

McLaren has to go defensive, and Hamilton, not seeming to get the

reliability that Rosberg is seeing on race day. On board with Felipe

Massa as he chases Kevin Magnussen. Kevin Magnussen had a strong race at

Spa but in the end was penalised 20 seconds. RADIO: Felipe, DRS is

enabled, use overtake if you need to. They know they have to clear the

McLaren as quickly as possible, otherwise they are going to lose so

much valuable time. We have got the comparisons of the on-board

Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, tucked in behind the Williams. He moves out to

take his line into Parabolica, but Hamilton will have a bit of a draft

in race pastry as the two cars behind him. Definitely coming under

more pressure. Massa comes to the outside for the next left-hander. He

has done the move into the second chicane. Lewis Hamilton will try to

line up the McLaren to get into third place. Magnussen has a good

exit. He has got him. Hamilton into third position. Critical pass for

Williams and Hamilton. A great example, Hamilton watching the

manoeuvre happen upfront and even though he was not in position, he

capitalised on the fact that Magnussen was busy trying to defend,

running down the dirty side of the rundown of the second chicane. It

affected his run at the second chicane great pass from Hamilton. On

board with Kevin Magnussen, let's see how it developed. Felipe Massa

getting in first. Straightforward out powered him. Hamilton staying on

the clean side of the track. Nothing that Magnussen could do. One pass

difficult start for man who has been such a star in the recent Grand

Prix. To victory in Spa. Tucked in behind the Force India of Nico

Hulkenberg. We know how quick that car can be in a straight line. The

Renault powered Red Bull can struggle. This could be a tough

afternoon for the Australian. Max Chilton has gone off. That is pretty

well, only suffered one non-finish in Grand Prix racing in his year and

a half, little bit more than a year and a half in the sport. It looks as

though it is a second DNS. Exited the second chicane. Do you think it

could be a dice with somebody? An unusual place, looks like he has

driven straight into the gravel. Close with Romain Grosjean. Over the

back of the curve. The car launched into the air. That is when he ended

up going straight on. Huge sausage curves on the apex of the chicane

is. He went over the back of it -- chicanes. He is winded according to

the radio communication. That is the end of the race matched Max

Chilton Kobayashi leading -- for Max Chilton. They are a bit behind

Gutierrez but not far behind Gutierrez in the Sauber. Nico

Rosberg leads the Italian Grand Prix. Felipe Massa, though, is that

the fastest lap in second place in the Williams. Third is Hamilton

tried to chase down the Williams. Fourth is Magnussen, dropping back

after getting back away incredibly off the line. Kevin Magnussen in

fourth, getting caught by Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button and Ananda

Alonso. Bottas Into the top ten. -- Fernando Alonso. Massa is starting

to pull the gap into Rosberg. 8.8 seconds, taking another three tenths

of a second out of Rosberg's lead. It might not be all over. It was

looking like Rosberg was going to get a clean run away at the front.

Seeing the end of this lap, they are continuing to bring down the gap.

Whatever problem Hamilton had, he seems to be under control, his lap

times are getting in a sensible position. Half a second quicker,

Hamilton, in that lap and Rosberg we can presume his car is running well.

going. Aluko Massa is four second, matching your lap times at the

moment. -- Felipe Massa. Other car, no mention of names. Nico Rosberg

leading this Grand Prix. Hamilton getting closer. In the background,

Kevin Magnussen in fourth place. Vettel in this group. It will get

much tighter. Bottas Needs to get past Kimi Raikkonen. We saw him past

Kimi Raikkonen for third place last time at Spa but it hasn't happened

yet. He had a go. This was Bottas. Did he go straight on? Not quite

straight on, but scrabbled around the edge at Raikkonen took the place

back. Raikkonen, professional. Coming to the apex. That car can't

quite disappear, professional driving. Unsurprising,

professionals. Smart driving. Bottas last opportunity for Bottas. Just

he will have to give up a place but he will have to show that he hasn't

gained from it. The gap was 3.6 seconds, last to cross the line, he

must have that gap down. This is where it becomes awkward. In Monaco,

he would have crashed out if he hit the barrier. There is a run-off,

they are allowed to use the barrier. There is a run-off,

just wait and see he manages that gap. He has done a fairly slow first

sector by going through the chicane. Absolutely. We need to see at the

end of the next lap, for him to be comfortable and not get any issues.

This is him in the braking zone, let's listen. Very unusual, did not

lock-up at all, maybe there is an issue with the rear axle. Just

caught him out. Convenient place to have a camera. A replay. Bottas

making it stick this time. He has got that place in ninth position

now, you are looking at Felipe Massa, he has Lewis Hamilton behind

him. Around to the start finish straight, we will see how that gap

has produced, 3.6 seconds was the gap. It is now

that lap. Hamilton getting closer to the back of the Williams, he will

make a move, he will try. That is where it is tough, on the outside.

position to think about winning this Grand Prix. Let's take another

makes it look easy, the way he positions the car. Doing that at 220

miles an hour, when they first get on the brakes and then positioning

it, such a narrow space, credible. The key thing for me, he got himself

Managing this early part of the race. In terms of fuel, consumption,

it should not be critical. A hundred kilos to the make it to the ends.

They do not have do save it overly like they do in some tracks. They

cannot be very careless. -- to make it to the end. The key concern is to

manage the weight of the car, 100 kilos but a lot more energy

requirement to the tyres. On the soft tyres as well. Continuing to

watch those lap times. Turning it around. Historically, he has been

slower than Rosberg in that first sector that is starting to go bit

would put them in the danger zone of being stuck behind the traffic. Who

is going to be the first one to blink? Rosberg has the upper hand in

terms of making the first call with the team. Hamilton's guys will know

that, they will be trying to find a slot, a window in the traffic where

they can take advantage. On board with Valtteri Bottas, he is in ninth

again today, I will be OK but I will get myself checked out. Valtteri

Bottas has a chance, trying to move past the Force India of Sergio

Perez, he moves to the outside. Can he complete the move like he did on

Kimi Raikkonen? He is through. Valtteri Bottas into eighth place as

pass. Not too difficult. Difficult to stop the car from 220 miles an

hour, don't get me wrong, they are highly skilled. In terms of the

overtake, taking full advantage of the slipstream. The gap is coming

down again, Hamilton is fast on this lap as well. He has taken a 10th out

of the first sector, one tenth on the second sector and the gap is

reducing. If he can get it down to the one second mark than overtaking

throttle and breaking together is an issue in the hybrid system is that

you want to roll off the throttle, and use the motor generator unit to

help charge the battery. You don't want to slow down the car initially

you are running the brake pedal as well. It is a very inefficient way

of driving the car. But with a left foot braking, sometimes coming you

get a bit excited, and you get on the brake probable for you, off the

throttle. Let's hear from Tom. How is Lewis Hamilton going to get past

Nico Rosberg? Hang on, Valtteri Bottas is on Alonso and I think he's

going to make the move easily. Look at the straight-line speed

advantage, well ahead before they got anywhere near the first chicane.

Valtteri Bottas goes back into seventh place. Back to Tom. That

Mercedes power unit just proving how powerful it is. Qualifying was the

first time since Argentina, 1980, that the same engine has had the top

six positions on the grid. Look at it blasting past the Ferrari power.

How is Lewis Hamilton going to get past Nico Rosberg? The DRS effect is

actually less than on other tracks because they have less downforce.

You won't get quite as much of April in the DRS zone. Will he go for the

undercut? The teams are telling me they wanted to get a Lap 20, before

they made a pit stop. They are nearing that mark. Does Lewis go for

the undercut and then try to nurse the tyres to the end of the race?

Right now, if I was in his position, I would continue to keep the

pressure on Rosberg already made a mistake when the gap was over three

seconds. They have both been managing the tyres, talking to the

team but he can keep nipping away and bringing the gap down and he has

done so away, to 1.4 seconds. He is getting very close to the point of

being able to get a small advantage with the DRS. Rosberg cannot afford

to take any risks. I would want to stay out there, even if my tyres

were struggling a bit, if I was Hamilton, keep the pressure on

Rosberg, don't let him get comfortable and see if you can force

a mistake. Meanwhile, it will be harder for Valtteri Bottas to

continue harder for Valtteri Bottas to

a good drive off one of the turns. We saw what Felipe Massa was able to

do an Kevin Magnussen. We know from the long runs on Friday that

Williams were very consistent. Looking at the... Hamilton saving

fuel but Valtteri Bottas is one of the best of all in terms of using

less fuel per lap than some of his rivals. He has got a lot of slip

streaming to help him. And also, while he's making his way through

traffic, he is not optimising his lap time. Quite agree, when you lift

off early, brake and generally run at the pace of the cars around you,

look at the pace at which he is coming into the slipstream.

of the corner, now through the Parabolica, as well as the

horsepower but there is no horsepower difference in the cars

although there is in terms of the amount of drag. Well, we presume

Lewis, it looks like you are picking up the toe, slower in the corners,

faster on the straights. Thanks but that, a bit more insight. -- for

that. He will start to lose downforce and Valtteri Bottas will

pick up the slipstream. McLaren, punching a hole in the air, and

fairly straightforward in the end. The reason I say we presume they

have the same horsepower is because they both have Mercedes engines but

we don't know... I think we have seen that broken board on the top

edge, we have seen that in a Lotus, it has just become detached from the

service, having been bolted into place. I would not have thought a

small pot like that has a big aerodynamic effect. Hamilton has got

the gap down to 1.2 seconds, taking two tents in the middle sector alone

on this lap. It is 1.3 across the line, in fact, still not quite in

the DRS zone. He is getting the dirty air which helps you on the

straights but it does not affect you too much in the lower speed corners,

like the Lesmo and the Ascari too much in the lower speed corners,

chicane. The turbulent air does not present itself to your wings as

neatly and then you don't get the efficiency and downforce. Where is

Sebastian Vettel? In the pits. And earlier pit stop than we were

perhaps expecting. It is just about in the pit window but this gives

them a long way to go on in the pit window but this gives

compound tyre. We are expecting just one pit stop per car. I expect they

have seen a gap in the traffic and they can drop in behind Daniil

Kvyat, in front of Adrian Sutil, who is just crossing the start finish

line. They obviously feel that he will be able to run in clean air,

optimises lap times, and hopefully get an advantage by the time the

cars that are battling away in front make a stop. Locking it all the way

up. He was speeding as he crossed the line. It is an average of your

speed as you go through the pit lane. If you speed across the line,

you just under speed the car for a period of time, do a quick mental

calculation and then accelerate again. RADIO: Let us know how the

tyres are on the HBP switch. Copy that, all cars are getting

degradation like yourself. He can tell them through a setting on the

steering wheel. HBP, the happy switch. I don't know the numbers

Mercedes use but it does not matter. Number one means they are happy with

the car, and number five is like, "I need to stop now". The information

just comes up on the telemetry. Instead of them having to give radio

messages, and give the game away, because the engineers have just told

us what he is thinking. We have had the first pit stop and now we have a

second, Sergio Perez has just come into the pit Sydney Force India.

Don't forget, some drivers started on the hard tyres and that is where

this make make -- may make a difference. The likes of Nico

Hulkenberg will stay out there, gaining a place as his team-mate

makes the stop. But he is, currently. Kevin Magnussen coming

under increasing pressure from Valtteri Bottas, who had his way

cleared as Sebastian Vettel came in and that put him -- has put him

against the McLaren. Valtteri Bottas is in fifth and Kevin Magnussen in

fourth. It is a dream comeback from him. I don't know what happened at

the start of the race that he found himself down, out of position but he

was able to be a smart racer. You could argue that he has the faster

car but he wants to keep out of trouble and get in position. He has

been systematically picking off other cars. Kevin Magnussen next, to

get into fourth place. Never any sign that Valtteri Bottas panics or

gets overemotional about anything. He is completely calm and focused on

the job in hand. Even though he lost the places at the beginning, he has

stuck to the task. I don't want to stereotype but the Finnish drivers

of the past, like Kimi Raikkonen, have a tendency to be able to appear

quite cold in some aspects. Not in terms of personality but in terms of

controlling their emotions. If you are asking the question, you would

not be flustered into giving you a knee jerk reaction. He is having a

go down the outside of Kevin Magnussen and he has completed the

move, on the brakes, and Valtteri Bottas has recovered to fourth

position after a dreadful start. Meanwhile, Kimi Raikkonen makes a

pit stop. Just inside the top ten. Has not made a lot of progress and

maybe Ferrari are counting of it on an earlier stop for him than some of

his rivals, to give him an opportunity to score some points at

the end of the race. He is in the points but can he stay there towards

the end? We will wait and see. The earlier you stop, the more likely

you are to be in trouble with tyres later. He did what Sebastian Vettel

did, pretty much. They are arriving at about 170 BH. It is one of the

more difficult pit lane entrances. You can see how far back he picks up

the slipstream of the McLaren, Valtteri Bottas. You can see that

Williams is particularly slippery in a straight line and Kevin Magnussen

could not do anything in the end. Hamilton and Rosberg trading lap

times, Hamilton gaining in the first sector but losing a bit in the

middle sector and then Rosberg has gone purple in the last sector. The

gap opened up slightly, 1.4 seconds. Rosberg has not literally gone

purple but his times have come up on our timing screen as purple, the

fastest so far. He is not really, really angry but just really quick

in the last sector. I think there will be a pit stop for Alonso soon,

and so does Kevin Magnussen go into the pit lane. This is interesting

because Alonso was behind Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen has got

first call on the stop for McLaren. They are having a small issue.

Ferrari getting the job but both teams are so slick that they service

the cars at the same time. One tenth slower, Alonso, according to the

graphic but nothing to choose between them. It was that same

situation when Magnusson held Alonso up the many laps and the Belgian

Grand Prix. It ended poorly forgetting Magnus and in a way when

he put Alonso on the grass and got a 22nd penalty himself. -- 20 seconds

penalty. He has gained from the earlier stop by coming in a fraction

early, getting ahead of Kevin Magnussen. And Alonso has found

himself coming out behind the Toro Rosso, and has to get himself in a

position to get back up there so he does not lose too much time.

Perenise, trying to do something about Kevin Magnussen, as he gets up

to speed. -- Sergio Perez. He has also made a stop, remember. You can

see how the guys who made the earlier stop gained out of it but

they may lose at the end of the earlier stop gained out of it but

because their tyres will not be as strong. RADIO: Push hard, now, two

more time lapse. Hamilton has gone fastest in the last sector. He will

be aware of what Rosberg's strategies going to be. His race

engineer will let him know. We have to presume the radio message was

slightly delayed. Interesting, Hulkenberg has a ready been into the

pits, having switched to the softer tyre. Jenson Button, making his

stop. Where will he tyre. Jenson Button, making his

group? It is going to be close, on the left, Sebastian Vettel coming

through. Just coming through under the trees, Sebastian Vettel. Kevin

Magnussen through as well. And he has lost one to Sergio Perez. He

stayed in front of Alonso but has lost a position to Sergio Perez in

the Force India because he made the earlier stop. Should Hamilton stop

before Rosberg? We did not think he could get an advantage out of the

new tyres. I find it interesting that Hulkenberg went so early. It

could be an alarm bell because you was on the harder tyre and they

seemed to expect that he would go to the end of the race on it but

somebody who tried it earlier had to stop relatively early, and it makes

you wonder because he was on a full tank of fuel and would have got more

load into the tyres but the life of the tyres now, however the drivers

look after them, they want to get them to the end of the race but they

have to think about how they do it. It gets easier as the race goes on.

RADIO: Perfect, we have jumped Alonso and Jenson Button comedy on

Kevin Magnussen's tale. Felipe Massa coming in third place. Now, can he

Kevin Magnussen's tale. Felipe Massa get an untroubled pit stop? Looking

good for Felipe Massa. He gets away. He is looking for his first podium

finish of this season. He will be out well in front Sebastian Vettel.

You can see Sebastian Vettel at the top of the screen in the group

behind. Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo have yet to stop and have

gone through. Daniel Ricciardo has not made his pit stop yet, going

through in front. We are still waiting for Mercedes to make their

stop as well. RADIO: Strap mode four. It is how much time. Here we

go, they are building up towards the pit stops, Mercedes. That means

Hamilton will be pushing even harder now. Tom? I have had a sweep of the

planet and have just been down to Williams to find out if our three

but has had a problem at the start. He did not report a problem but we

think he may have been held up by Hamilton's bad start which is why he

dropped back to 11th but he has got a very strong race car, was the only

bit of information they gave to me. Not a surprise because we saw him do

28 laps on Friday afternoon when the track conditions were similar, and

he did them all within 0.8 seconds of each other. He is looking very

good. Rosberg is coming in from the lead in the Grand Prix and has had

the advantage of the first of the two but Hamilton has really got to

put in one of the laps of his life, in order to have the advantage when

he comes in. 2.8 seconds, the stock, very good by Mercedes, not

the fastest we have seen. -- stop. He has taken the maximum he can out

of the tyres, the only thing he can do is allow it to run the full

engine load per lap, he will not be able to overcome the two seconds

deficit he had before the stop. Valtteri Bottas makes his top

forwarding is, climbing back up through the order after the poor

getaway. Slightly so stop for him, through the order after the poor

three seconds in sixth place. Where will he come out with Vettel? On the

outside, Kevin Magnussen trying to go around the outside of the

Williams, giving him space and he has lost momentum. He could be in

danger from Sergio Perez, moving to the outside. He has got past. The

earliest from Force India is rewarding them. Having made up

ground in the early stages, Bottas has got to do it all again. Just not

quite quick enough after the stop. You have to keep inside the white

line in the first corner. That allowed the momentum of Vettel and

the likes. Incomes Lewis Hamilton. Where is he going to come out? Will

Rosberg be in front or will Lewis Hamilton have the advantage crust of

my -- in comes. A fairly good stock, 2.7, virtually the same. Rosberg is

through the final turn of Parabolica. He will take momentum.

crucial on you, depends how much they put in in the first place.

Daniel Ricciardo is currently third. He has not made a pit stop. Going

much deeper into this race. Going much deeper. Strategies from Red

Bull, Vettel maiden earlier than expected stop. The front runners,

Ricciardo was the last -- made an earlier stop Hogies responding to

what the drivers feel. Making tyres last. Daniel Ricciardo has it more

comfortable with the tyres, making them last longer. Mark Webber was

seemingly able to get a feel more laps out of them than Mark was.

Could be reflected in the decisions of the driver. Comes out behind

Raikkonen. He is behind Raikkonen, the other Ferrari. RADIO: Lewis, the

race will be at the end, at the end. The suggestion is we sit to,

2.5 seconds without losing the downforce, we will need the tyres at

the end -- we sit two. Lewis will relish the opportunity to go

wheel-to-wheel with Nico Rosberg. He didn't respond to that radio

message, three tenths quicker in the middle sector. At this stage. I

understand the engineer's message. It is the race in you, telling you

to go forward, the opportunity to make

Spa, you have got to make a clear decision, defending your position or

not, you are not allowed to change the position of the kindly braking

zone. That is a safety call, written in the rules and the drivers

understand, they get a 20 second penalty, he got a late move, pushing

Alonso onto the grass. Hamilton getting a massive amount of Rosberg,

he will be in DRS range over the line. Hamilton is miles quick at

this stage than Nico Rosberg. -- quicker. He is using the new tyre to

best effect. Rosberg has been out for a lap longer, when the tie is

new it is at its best, Hamilton will have a real chance --. When the

tyre. I don't think he will have a chance yet but gaining massively on

this last lap. It was 1.3 seconds, he has taken six tenths of a second

out of Nico Rosberg on the map. He has got to judge it as to whether he

looks after the tyres, or does he go fully? -- on the lap. He has gone

straight on, surely this is Hamilton's chance to take the lead

in the Grand Prix and he does! Hamilton is in front, Rosberg makes

a mistake and Lewis Hamilton is gifted the lead. That wasn't a gift,

that was pressure, he pressured Rosberg into a mistake. As we were

saying, it is fine and well the engineer saying let's make this

happen at the end of the Grand Prix, he has been systematically putting

the pressure on Rosberg. Rosberg having to be careful, the minute he

got that gap down to under a second. Rosberg got flustered, he made the

mistake. There is no doubt who has the psychological edge now, it is

Lewis Hamilton. He has forced his team-mate into a mistake, he got the

lead in the Grand Prix. He is flying at the moment, he is absolutely

setting the screens alight with the times he is doing. Alonso!

Retirement for Alonso, the first time we have seen him out for such a

long, long time. We will have to wait to find out what has happened,

was it an accident, a mechanical problem? He has had no non-finishes

this year. Parked at the first chicane. It could well have been a

mechanical issue. If it is, we have to go back to his first season with

Ferrari, when he had an engine failure. He has never had a

nonclassified finish with Ferrari, due to mechanical problems. Never a

good time to have it but the worst time possible, to do that in front

of the Tifosi. This is down the start-finish. Adjustments on his

touring with his right hand. -- on his steering. Year, sounds like a

power plant failure. Well, that is... You have to go back to 2009,

not classified as a finished, he will not be classified, we are only

on Lap 29. 2009, when he was with Renault, was the last time he had a

mechanical DNF. I do not know how he has always had that reliability, but

that is a shock. On home turf as well. He scores points every race

you are competing with can't possibly know, you have got a faint

position in your car, progressively move your car. So the other person

understand what you are intending to do. Quite a late move to one side.

carry the momentum around the outside but Magnussen keeps it keen

around the brakes. One driver here with a new contract in his pocket,

on-board with the one with a contract for next year, he knows

what he is doing. Kevin Magnussen is still waiting to hear whether he

will be driving for McLaren. Publicly, we don't know but maybe

privately there has been some... Contracts put in place. It seems

like they want to hang in there. RADIO: Keep it clean. Keep it

clean. Jenson wasn't as close this time, keep it clean. We hope to keep

the fuel performance back soon. He is having to save fuel. Hearing from

a few people, generally going into this race, particularly for the

Mercedes engined cars, we thought they would be safe on fuel, without

having to go into fuel saving technique. But what we have heard on

the radio, they are using a few of those techniques, lifting off early

for some of corners is usual one. Just to try to use a fraction less

fuel. Lifting at high speed is very efficient fuel saving, you lose

minimum lap time whilst gaining a lot. Using the horsepower to push

your way through the air. No change between that the tour group

Magnussen in fifth, there is a change behind, though. Daniel

Ricciardo gets past Raikkonen. Ninth place. Ricciardo is making progress

on those tyres. Raikkonen in a bit of bother. He pushed down to 10th

place, doesn't look very quick. No. Struggling. Last lap wasn't hugely

slower. Renault power on Ferrari. It was a

really lovely late piece of breaking. Raikkonen was not

expecting it. My goodness, Ricciardo does it again. He is an ace racer.

Talking with Eddie off air before the show, the only thing at the

moment that the show, the only thing at the

from Bottas and Magnussen getting the opportunity. Bottas And

Magnussen owing wheel-to-wheel. We have seen that.

Daniel is great at wheel-to-wheel racing. Valtteri Bottas has had a

great season but just by being clean and keeping it together. This is the

first opportunity for us to really see how he is, going wheel-to-wheel.

Stewards are investigating the incident with Valtteri Bottas and

Kevin Magnussen, being forced over a bit too much. They are being a bit

more lenient but you did not like it either. I am conscious of the fact

that the viewers at home will say racing is racing but there is a very

clear rule, that you have to define whether you are defending into a

corner or maintaining track position. RADIO: OK, it is going to

get pretty tasty. A lot of changes in places going. Let's get amongst

it. The next one Daniel Ricciardo is chasing is Jenson Button. We are

looking forward to this if he can pull off some more moves like that
