Good morning. Not long now until free practice one, but take a look

:01:04.:01:09.

around, it is obvious that Formula One is back in Europe. These are

:01:10.:01:14.

understated little homes of the homes for people like Fernando

:01:15.:01:17.

Alonso, the drivers and teams, for all the European Grand Prix. We just

:01:18.:01:24.

saw Fernando Alonso, local hero, hard to believe it is one year since

:01:25.:01:30.

it won this race last year. Incredible to believe it was 2005 at

:01:31.:01:36.

2006 when he won the championship. Ferrari need an upturn, they need to

:01:37.:01:41.

get some amends this season. We have left those big, impressive new

:01:42.:01:52.

circuits, come back to the home of Formula One, a circuit they know

:01:53.:01:57.

well. Not with this new car, they have been testing in Jerez and in

:01:58.:02:01.

Bahrain, it is the first time they will get these new cars onto this

:02:02.:02:06.

circuit. It is a venture into the unknown, even though they have lots

:02:07.:02:11.

of historic data. Mercedes have dominated so far this season, you

:02:12.:02:15.

can see that in both the drivers' and constructors' championship.

:02:16.:02:38.

It seems incredible to be saying that Ferrari have not won a race

:02:39.:02:46.

since this time last year. In the commentary box today, Ben Edwards

:02:47.:02:52.

and Tony, you can get in touch with us, they will do their best to read

:02:53.:02:56.

out as many tweets as they can, but it will be a busy first session.

:02:57.:03:04.

Yes, we have that extra set of tyres that the teams get for the first 30

:03:05.:03:11.

minutes. Yes, normally we come here and do a lot of testing, but we have

:03:12.:03:16.

not this time, errors and two in Bahrain, they will want to get out.

:03:17.:03:23.

not this time, errors and two in skies, temperatures of 20 degrees.

:03:24.:03:30.

You can leave a comment on the BBC Sport Facebook page as well as

:03:31.:03:33.

contact us on Twitter. Alan, Lotus needs to get things together, but

:03:34.:03:37.

contact us on Twitter. Alan, Lotus they have always said this would be

:03:38.:03:40.

the start of their championship. A lot of people are relying on this.

:03:41.:03:46.

The problem is that everybody else's championship started in

:03:47.:03:47.

Australia, and we have seen better performances of late, especially

:03:48.:03:52.

from Romain Grosjean, who has settled into accepting the car was

:03:53.:03:57.

not quick enough, but they have got a long way to go to get to the point

:03:58.:04:01.

where they were at the end of 2013. Taking a look at Daniel Ricciardo,

:04:02.:04:09.

incredibly impressive, especially in comparison to Sebastian Vettel.

:04:10.:04:12.

Vettel has a new chassis this weekend, a lot of new parts on the

:04:13.:04:17.

car, but as you say, everyone does. What will happen in this session?

:04:18.:04:18.

car, but as you say, everyone does. it about bedding in?

:04:19.:04:23.

car, but as you say, everyone does. teams who are not 100% sure it is

:04:24.:04:26.

going to make their car faster will be doing back-to-backs, Ferrari have

:04:27.:04:30.

additions to their aerodynamics that they will be checking between the

:04:31.:04:35.

two cars, but some of the others, if they have a good feeling in

:04:36.:04:40.

correlation between wind tunnel and circuit, will have the confidence to

:04:41.:04:43.

go for it. One of them is Red Bull, they have historically been able to

:04:44.:04:46.

build things on and go faster, but they need to do this weekend - this

:04:47.:04:50.

is a circuit where they can start to take the charge to Mercedes. We will

:04:51.:04:57.

head out to the pit lane, and we will leave you with Ben and Tony in

:04:58.:05:00.

the pit box. BEN: Cars are already begin to make

:05:01.:05:08.

their way down the pit lane to get ready for the very start of this

:05:09.:05:12.

session, which has just begun. Let's just say, a little bit of action

:05:13.:05:17.

straightaway, Marcus Ericsson will never out ahead of everybody else in

:05:18.:05:21.

the Caterham. Nico Hulkenberg making his way down to the practice start

:05:22.:05:25.

area, just slightly off the main exit of the pits, to give everyone

:05:26.:05:29.

else who wants to go straight out a nice clear run onto the track. And

:05:30.:05:34.

everybody coming out, a little bit of heat haze from the exhaust as

:05:35.:05:39.

they head down the pit lane, and absolutely gorgeous morning here in

:05:40.:05:43.

early summer in the northern part of Spain. We're just outside of

:05:44.:05:48.

Barcelona, of course, alongside the motorway which connects France with

:05:49.:05:52.

Catalunya, Madrid and Zaragoza. This track, as we have said, very well

:05:53.:05:56.

known to all the teams and drivers thanks to the testing they have done

:05:57.:06:09.

here plans, and the racing in lower categories. Absolutely, and it makes

:06:10.:06:13.

such a difference. Having said that, I think Kvyat has been

:06:14.:06:17.

incredibly impressive, when you look at what he has done with the

:06:18.:06:21.

circuits, not to say Kevin has not been. It does make a difference when

:06:22.:06:25.

you come to somewhere you have driven before, it will be

:06:26.:06:30.

interesting to see how they go. Both Toro Rosso and McLaren need to try

:06:31.:06:33.

to improve, although Daniil Kvyat has scored points on three occasions

:06:34.:06:38.

already. Kevin Magnussen started so brilliantly at the first Grand Prix

:06:39.:06:41.

and Australia, but since then McLaren, in the last couple of

:06:42.:06:45.

races, things have not gone to plan, clutch problems in Bahrain, lack of

:06:46.:06:50.

performance in China. Jenson was talking about that yesterday, Jenson

:06:51.:06:55.

Button saying that the circuits particularly in China just did not

:06:56.:07:00.

suit their car. Yeah, he said there was a lot of straight and they were

:07:01.:07:03.

having problems generating temperature, which is a perennial

:07:04.:07:07.

problem for Jenson. He has quite a delicate feel, and when he cannot

:07:08.:07:11.

generate temperature at the front end, he struggles. Kevin also said,

:07:12.:07:17.

we just need more downforce. A couple of the third drivers are out

:07:18.:07:21.

this weekend for the first session, the Friday morning session often

:07:22.:07:24.

sees the development drivers getting an opportunity to get behind the

:07:25.:07:39.

wheel, and this is Felipe Nasr driving the Williams alongside

:07:40.:07:46.

Felipe Massa, the two Felipes on track this morning! Williams have

:07:47.:07:48.

been scoring consistently, so much better than we have seen in recent

:07:49.:07:53.

years, where they have really been struggling. Williams currently

:07:54.:07:59.

sitting in sixth, but there have been disappointments, Massa lost a

:08:00.:08:01.

chance to score decent points because of an operational error in

:08:02.:08:09.

the pit stop. Absolutely, and if you think of the start that Valtteri

:08:10.:08:13.

Bottas had, impressive in Australia, they have had little things going

:08:14.:08:17.

wrong which has spoiled the start of the season for them. Bottas is one

:08:18.:08:23.

of four drivers to have scored in every round, but they have the basis

:08:24.:08:26.

of a good car, and they can be optimistic. Williams won here with

:08:27.:08:34.

Maldonado two years ago, and then it all went awfully patient, and now

:08:35.:08:38.

they are back challenging again, great to see. Looking at the nose on

:08:39.:08:44.

the Force India, it looks like it has a second level to it, a lot of

:08:45.:08:49.

experimentation will be done here today, and you can see evidence of

:08:50.:08:55.

the green paint that is being put on the back of the Ferrari, this paint

:08:56.:09:00.

that basically follows the air flow as it goes through and around the

:09:01.:09:03.

circuit we will have a good look at that as they come back into the pits

:09:04.:09:08.

and a clean it all off. It gives them some idea of the correlation

:09:09.:09:12.

between what they are seen in the wind tunnel and what they are hoping

:09:13.:09:16.

to see on track. Felipe Massa made some interesting comments, saying

:09:17.:09:19.

that at Williams so far this year everything they have brought to make

:09:20.:09:23.

the car go faster has indeed made it go faster, and he said that was not

:09:24.:09:26.

happening at all at Ferrari last year. Every time they came with

:09:27.:09:31.

something new on the Ferrari, they basically said it did not work and

:09:32.:09:35.

have to go back to what they were already running. Interesting

:09:36.:09:40.

comments, Ferrari went through a stage of having correlation problems

:09:41.:09:43.

with the wind tunnel, an ongoing process to get on top of, and they

:09:44.:09:48.

felt they had done that. I saw that, a little dig from Felipe. Yes, but I

:09:49.:09:53.

think things are better now, the new wind tunnel is up and running at the

:09:54.:09:59.

Rhino, so now they have got over that problem that they are now

:10:00.:10:02.

delivering parts of the car that are working, and if anybody needs them,

:10:03.:10:07.

Kimi Raikkonen has had a very difficult start to the season,

:10:08.:10:11.

returning to his old employers. He has not had a great feel for the

:10:12.:10:15.

car, he was locking up in the first couple of races, then complaining

:10:16.:10:18.

about the steering feel, which is a particular sensitivity for them. We

:10:19.:10:23.

have the same problem at Renault, and we talked to James Allison about

:10:24.:10:28.

that, he said it is very intricate, not an easy fix, quite difficult to

:10:29.:10:32.

do, and it looks like he may have the same issue that they are trying

:10:33.:10:36.

to sort for him. A tricky start, I do not think his results have been

:10:37.:10:41.

reflective of Kimi at all. That is right, I think we will see a lot

:10:42.:10:46.

more from him. Nico Rosberg, world championship leader into this race,

:10:47.:10:49.

despite having been beaten by his team-mate three in a row. We have

:10:50.:10:53.

had this little gap, let's remind you of the season. Yellow flags

:10:54.:10:59.

flashing down at that area of the circuit as well. No, it is the

:11:00.:11:05.

green, that is all right, it is showing them they are allowed to

:11:06.:11:08.

keep on the pace. A reminder of what has been happening so far this

:11:09.:11:12.

season, Mercedes have been dominating, starting in Australia,

:11:13.:11:15.

where they were one and three on the grid, Hamilton had a problem with

:11:16.:11:20.

his car right from the start, did not get off the line well. Rosberg

:11:21.:11:24.

went on to win, Hamilton and early retirement, as was Sebastian Vettel.

:11:25.:11:29.

What surprised us was the pace of the other Red Bull, Daniel

:11:30.:11:33.

Ricciardo, after a miserable testing episode in the winter, they got

:11:34.:11:36.

their act together. Let's take a little look at

:11:37.:11:40.

their act together. Let's take a doing a moment ago, using the kerb,

:11:41.:11:42.

we will see plenty of that this morning. The other main headlines,

:11:43.:11:47.

the performance of McLaren, because new driver Kevin Magnussen scored a

:11:48.:11:51.

the performance of McLaren, because stunning podium on his debut,

:11:52.:11:53.

second-place finish in the end of the end after Ricciardo was excluded

:11:54.:11:57.

for using too much fuel during the race. Despite that great drive from

:11:58.:12:02.

Ricciardo, he was not able to bank the points. McLaren ended up second

:12:03.:12:08.

and third. In Malaysia, the Red Bull of Vettel was on the front row,

:12:09.:12:12.

Hamilton disappeared into the distance, Rosberg lost time on the

:12:13.:12:15.

first lap, got back to second place, never really able to match

:12:16.:12:21.

Lewis Hamilton on that occasion. It was a 1-2 for Mercedes, Vettel

:12:22.:12:26.

finished third. Team or the controversies at Williams, Ricciardo

:12:27.:12:32.

had problems with a pit stop. -- team order. That affected him at the

:12:33.:12:36.

next race, where you have a ten place penalty. Bahrain was the race

:12:37.:12:41.

of the season so far, and I was talking to a seasoned journalist

:12:42.:12:44.

yesterday who has watched Formula One since the 1960s and remembers

:12:45.:12:48.

all the great races, and he says that, to him, was one of

:12:49.:12:51.

all the great races, and he says races that will be remembered. I

:12:52.:12:55.

would agree, everybody talked about the Mercedes domination, but you

:12:56.:12:56.

would agree, everybody talked about only need two cars to make a

:12:57.:13:04.

would agree, everybody talked about go at it, and it was just a fabulous

:13:05.:13:06.

race, and a significant go at it, and it was just a fabulous

:13:07.:13:10.

to hear the talk about them concentrating on the tracks

:13:11.:13:12.

to hear the talk about them not strong at, and the admitted that

:13:13.:13:15.

Nico was better than him around Bahrain. That was Nico's pole

:13:16.:13:20.

position, he delivered that, one against the head, and he obviously

:13:21.:13:26.

thought he had done its there, a key win for Lewis. Brilliant race all

:13:27.:13:31.

round, superb podium for Sergio Perez in third place, Ricciardo

:13:32.:13:34.

recovered pretty well from his ten place penalty to finish in fourth,

:13:35.:13:38.

but the Ferrari looked very slow. That changed a little bit at the

:13:39.:13:42.

last Grand Prix in the quartet we have had so far, having a good look

:13:43.:13:47.

around the Sauber here. Mercedes, once again, wet qualifying, only one

:13:48.:13:53.

dry qualifying so far this year. Mercedes were first and fourth,

:13:54.:13:57.

Hamilton on pole, Rosberg did not get it together in wet qualifying.

:13:58.:13:59.

Hamilton dominated in China, it took get it together in wet qualifying.

:14:00.:14:04.

Rosberg a while, after a poor start, to get into second place, and

:14:05.:14:08.

meanwhile Alonso had delivered a brilliant first lap and managed to

:14:09.:14:11.

overcome Vettel brilliant first lap and managed to

:14:12.:14:15.

stops. Alonso took his first podium of the year, Ferrari looking much

:14:16.:14:20.

stronger in China, Vettel still finding things difficult as he was

:14:21.:14:23.

passed by his team-mates, Daniel Ricciardo, for fourth place. So that

:14:24.:14:28.

is a summary of where we have got to coming into this fifth round of the

:14:29.:14:32.

championship, Mercedes on top, the battle for third really between

:14:33.:14:36.

Ferrari and Red Bull. Red Bull have had the edge mostly, but last time

:14:37.:14:41.

out in China, Ferrari claimed that podium spot. It was interesting

:14:42.:14:45.

listening to Ben Ando after that race, because people said, is that

:14:46.:14:52.

indicative of what you can do, are you back? He said, actually, we were

:14:53.:14:57.

ninth and tenth in the race before, his inference was, that was me, and

:14:58.:15:02.

it was a fantastic race. Brilliant race from him, down to the pits, as

:15:03.:15:07.

cars have done their first installation lap, you are at

:15:08.:15:15.

Mercedes. Mercedes are dominant, but they are producing the important

:15:16.:15:22.

performance enhancements. A little bit of tickle on the front wing.

:15:23.:15:30.

Also they seem to have tightened up the engine cover for the cooling at

:15:31.:15:33.

the back. That's important around here because that's aerodynamic

:15:34.:15:39.

efficiency and the hot races like Bahrain, they have gone, Malaysia

:15:40.:15:43.

where you needed a lot of cooling, they are tightening the package up.

:15:44.:15:48.

Even though Mercedes are on top. They are marching ahead. We are

:15:49.:15:53.

expecting them to be top dogs. You can get in touch with us by tweeting

:15:54.:16:00.

us or you can comment on the BBC Sport Facebook page and the best of

:16:01.:16:04.

your comments will be included on the BBC Sports website page. Andy

:16:05.:16:11.

saying, " Morning all, do you think anyone can catch Mercedes?" Our

:16:12.:16:15.

feeling at the moment, Andy is they are going to be updating as much as

:16:16.:16:19.

everybody else and Tony, although this track isn't as engine dominated

:16:20.:16:24.

as some, the aerodynamics of this track is crucial. Mercedes were on

:16:25.:16:30.

poll last year? Absolutely. It is funny because you hear people

:16:31.:16:33.

saying, Alonso said yesterday, there is not many straights, this is

:16:34.:16:36.

better for us. He is thinking it will help Ferrari, but it seems to

:16:37.:16:40.

be, a lot of straights. I remember when we used to talk about Barcelona

:16:41.:16:47.

having this huge, long straight. Maybe their prospective has changed

:16:48.:16:51.

with all the new circuits, but it will play to Mercedes' strengths.

:16:52.:17:02.

What do you Recon, Alan With the big long corners like Turn 3 and Turn 4,

:17:03.:17:07.

historically that means that when the car understeers it doesn't eat

:17:08.:17:12.

up the rear tyres and we saw the Ferrari car going forward last year

:17:13.:17:16.

and we saw the Mercedes which did eat up the rear tyres going

:17:17.:17:21.

backwards. Mercedes improved their rear tyre consumption, but generally

:17:22.:17:25.

this circuit has got more corners than straights and if you do have a

:17:26.:17:29.

car that's maybe a little bit numb on the front axle then it works

:17:30.:17:32.

around here. And that's something we're going to

:17:33.:17:35.

be seeing throughout the course of this weekend. I think you guys moved

:17:36.:17:39.

to Ferrari. What are you seeing there? Well, Ben, what we're seeing

:17:40.:17:44.

is something which looks space age! If you can see the one in the

:17:45.:17:48.

distance, that's the Lotus rig and if you spin back round and look at

:17:49.:17:53.

the Ferrari one which is popular, Alan, this looks incredible. Does it

:17:54.:17:57.

make you fast? Well, it does look good. There is no question about it.

:17:58.:18:00.

The important thing, is it efficient? Does it actually improve

:18:01.:18:03.

the pit stops because that's what this is about? I think it actually

:18:04.:18:06.

looks a little bit more space age than anything else, but what's

:18:07.:18:10.

interesting as well, you have got a camera up here that's recording

:18:11.:18:13.

every pit stop and therefore, they can then download that data.

:18:14.:18:21.

Incredible light system as well? Red means stop and green means go. The

:18:22.:18:25.

driver focuses his eyes on this and then, he goes when this goes green.

:18:26.:18:30.

Whatever happens, he goes when that goes green. We have seen in the past

:18:31.:18:35.

that Ferrari, I remember Felipe Massa lead k the Grand Prix and that

:18:36.:18:40.

went green and they weren't ready so they have got to get this 100%. They

:18:41.:18:48.

won't miss their pits. Ben. It is like a piece of modern art

:18:49.:18:52.

won't miss their pits. Ben. It is that. It is a really impressive

:18:53.:18:57.

piece of kit. Typically Formula One. You can get that the other Formula

:18:58.:19:03.

One teams will see that and think, "How can we better that?" There will

:19:04.:19:09.

be a few more appearing. Normally when you look at the other rigs, you

:19:10.:19:13.

see the air bottles clearly and that structure covers it up and makes it

:19:14.:19:16.

look stunning indeed. Indeed, the whole track is looking impressive as

:19:17.:19:21.

we've arrived here in Barcelona. It is a popular venue. The teams, as we

:19:22.:19:25.

heard, didn't test here at the beginning of the year so it is their

:19:26.:19:30.

heard, didn't test here at the first trip to run the full hybrid

:19:31.:19:35.

power units for the first time. The V6 engines that have been brought

:19:36.:19:42.

in, turbo charged, but more electrical energy being generated.

:19:43.:19:46.

Under braking and electricity being generated by the exhaust system, the

:19:47.:19:50.

exhaust gases, the excess energy in the exhaust gases not only being

:19:51.:19:55.

used to feed the turbo, but an electrical generator as well. A

:19:56.:20:01.

combination of electrical that is brand-new, of course, still to

:20:02.:20:04.

Formula One and we are seeing amazing performance and we are

:20:05.:20:09.

seeing races being covered only slower, about 20 seconds in China

:20:10.:20:12.

than the previous year and on a third less fuel. So hybrid systems

:20:13.:20:17.

in Formula One really are working and delivering good reliability

:20:18.:20:23.

already, Tony? That's been the surprising thing. In testing we were

:20:24.:20:26.

talking about the potential disasters, will anybody finish the

:20:27.:20:29.

race? All this thing. But, you know, the first four races, it has been

:20:30.:20:35.

exemplary. It is a commendable reflection of the ability of these

:20:36.:20:39.

guys in Formula One. Yes, absolutely. Brilliant engineers.

:20:40.:20:45.

Daniil Kvyat is the only driver to have set a time. Apologies for no

:20:46.:20:48.

graphics of times appearing on the screen. There is a problem.

:20:49.:20:51.

Hopefully that will be sorted. But Daniil Kvyat is fastest, but the

:20:52.:20:56.

only one who set a time so far. Everyone else has done an

:20:57.:21:01.

installation lap. It looks as if off cars are up and running and everyone

:21:02.:21:06.

will start to put laps together on this extra set of tyres. We're 16

:21:07.:21:09.

minutes into this session. That means, of course, that they have got

:21:10.:21:14.

another 14 minutes or so before we get them having to change the tyres.

:21:15.:21:18.

We are seeing a Lotus on track. What is the news at Lotus,

:21:19.:21:24.

We are seeing a Lotus on track. What Maldonado is on track. Romain

:21:25.:21:27.

Grosjean, a lot of work going on his carment they have had a

:21:28.:21:31.

Grosjean, a lot of work going on his that this is the race that they were

:21:32.:21:34.

focussing on to make those improvements. They almost

:21:35.:21:36.

focussing on to make those disregard the first four races.

:21:37.:21:40.

Romain Grosjean yesterday was pretty upbeat all things considered. It was

:21:41.:21:46.

a gearbox, an unusual issue, that cost him or it stopped him getting

:21:47.:21:49.

in the points in China, but yesterday, speaking to Romain

:21:50.:21:53.

Grosjean, he seemed in a good place and he is thinking that things

:21:54.:21:54.

Grosjean, he seemed in a good place well, should and need to go better

:21:55.:21:57.

this well, should and need to go better

:21:58.:22:00.

them up for the rest of the season. So he is looking for a good points

:22:01.:22:07.

haul this weekend. The gearbox problem last time out denied what

:22:08.:22:11.

could have been possible points. Maldonado we will be keeping an eye

:22:12.:22:15.

on because of that stunning performance he put in here two years

:22:16.:22:19.

ago, when he was driving for Williams. The first ever Venezuela

:22:20.:22:23.

to win a Grand Prix. He wasn't fastest in qualifying, but in the

:22:24.:22:27.

end, he was, because Hamilton set the pace that day.

:22:28.:22:29.

end, he was, because Hamilton set never had a poll position here.

:22:30.:22:31.

That's something to beat. He never had a victory, but he has been

:22:32.:22:35.

winning races that he has not won in the past this year. Let's ride with

:22:36.:22:40.

Maldonado. The graphics are working so we can see the times coming up on

:22:41.:22:50.

screen. Maldonado does love this circuit. Nearly cursed him there!

:22:51.:22:55.

The commentators curse for Maldonado. A twisty section here. It

:22:56.:22:59.

is all about traction. This is where the Mercedes was particularly good.

:23:00.:23:05.

No, it is a lot about traction. And when you come here, you bring the

:23:06.:23:08.

little updates and you just hope it has improved the package, but

:23:09.:23:11.

funnily enough this year, people have been saying that the advances

:23:12.:23:13.

will hopefully come from the have been saying that the advances

:23:14.:23:18.

units that's where the most time is to be had. In the past, it was a

:23:19.:23:21.

three week gap and it to be had. In the past, it was a

:23:22.:23:25.

chance to do aero updates after the fly away races and as Alan was

:23:26.:23:30.

saying in the lead-in, there is nothing earth shattering here, it is

:23:31.:23:34.

flicks and little changes, but they hope that the main progress will be

:23:35.:23:39.

made by particularly the energy recovery system part of the power

:23:40.:23:42.

units, I think in the case of Ferrari at Renault. Well, Button has

:23:43.:23:52.

gone fastest. Jenson Button has done a 1.30.7. Maldonado, we saw the time

:23:53.:23:58.

on board a moment ago. A lock-up for Fernando Alonso.

:23:59.:24:04.

on board a moment ago. A lock-up for tyre. All of them will be on the

:24:05.:24:06.

hard tyre and throughout the first tyre. All of them will be on the

:24:07.:24:11.

practise they will only use the hard tyre. You can see Alonso is really

:24:12.:24:14.

attacking the track at the moment. More rubber goes down as we go

:24:15.:24:19.

attacking the track at the moment. car, the handling of the car, but

:24:20.:24:22.

attacking the track at the moment. Alonso never wastes any time just

:24:23.:24:23.

driving around, he is Alonso never wastes any time just

:24:24.:24:29.

attacking. Just to go back to that Maldonado week. You said what a good

:24:30.:24:36.

drive that was, he had this man threatening him and Alonso has the

:24:37.:24:39.

reputation for being the most relentless race driver out there and

:24:40.:24:48.

he has to cope with that and deliver that win. It was Frank's 70

:24:49.:24:51.

birthday. It was a shock afterwards when they had the pit fire. Oh, that

:24:52.:24:55.

was dreadful. That was dreadful. Yes. That's right. Alonso goes

:24:56.:25:05.

fastest, 1.29.8. We have a mirror broken on the Force India there of

:25:06.:25:10.

Sergio Perez. It is flapping around in the wind. Only just attached. He

:25:11.:25:14.

is trying to get it under control! He has got hold of it now thankfully

:25:15.:25:18.

and he is bringing the car back in. That's an unusual sight on a Formula

:25:19.:25:22.

One car to see the mirror coming loose. Yes, we don't use them only

:25:23.:25:30.

for shaving in! How much will that inconvenience him?

:25:31.:25:34.

It is more an irritation for the eye that you see it out of the corner of

:25:35.:25:39.

your eye than anything else. All you see is the rear wing in your main

:25:40.:25:45.

sponsor or any car behind you. I would have thought he will probably

:25:46.:25:48.

try and stick a hand out to rip it off and get rid of it. He is holding

:25:49.:25:55.

on to it now. He is having to get his right-hand across to the paddle

:25:56.:26:01.

on the back left of the steering wheel. We will have a replay of the

:26:02.:26:06.

moment it happened and it just popped off and started flapping

:26:07.:26:10.

about in the breeze, but still attached by cable. That's the first

:26:11.:26:16.

run for Perez. Let's see what Alonso did. This was a moment ago, a

:26:17.:26:22.

lock-up and that's a classic clays place to lock that inside wheel down

:26:23.:26:26.

the hill into turn five. You see that often. Using a bit of curve,

:26:27.:26:30.

Alonso, he has been attacking right from the word go. Racing in his home

:26:31.:26:34.

nation, always seems to adjust a little bit of spirit. The new boss

:26:35.:26:40.

at Ferrari, the man who took over last time out in China, had a little

:26:41.:26:46.

bit afchance to get -- of a chance to get his feet under the table.

:26:47.:26:50.

bit afchance to get -- of a chance Alonso says he has been talking to

:26:51.:26:53.

everybody. He brought the drivers in and talked to the engineers. He is

:26:54.:26:57.

trying to get an idea of what's going on and where any problem areas

:26:58.:27:02.

might be and he is beginning the process trying to understand where

:27:03.:27:06.

Ferrari are and how did they get to the stage of beating these guys in

:27:07.:27:13.

particular, Mercedes. TEAM RADIO: It is very hot. It is

:27:14.:27:18.

hot for Rosberg around his seat. That's causing him concern. A huge

:27:19.:27:22.

amount of stuff is packaged around the driver. It could be anything. An

:27:23.:27:27.

awful number of batteries that can heat that area up. Keep an eye on

:27:28.:27:31.

that. The energy store, the batteries located in the floor of

:27:32.:27:36.

the car, under the fuel tank. Around the side of the driver, you have the

:27:37.:27:40.

cooling areas and the radiators and there are more radiators on the cars

:27:41.:27:45.

now. They have a special radiator which cools the air going into the

:27:46.:27:50.

turbo charger, in the Mercedes, that's behind the driver's shoulders

:27:51.:27:56.

and one of the clever parts about this year's Mercedes, it is

:27:57.:28:00.

integrated into the chassis. That's one of the other elements of the

:28:01.:28:05.

advantage they have. It is something the others can't hit back with until

:28:06.:28:12.

next year. A perfect example of why it is a big advantage this year to

:28:13.:28:15.

have the integration between the chassis and the engine. Certainly,

:28:16.:28:23.

you know, a works package properly integrated. Ferrari had the

:28:24.:28:28.

opportunity to do. Red Bull not quite so much. Here we are with

:28:29.:28:35.

Sebastian Vettel. They work closely together and Red Bull people have

:28:36.:28:39.

been going to Renault to try and help on the software issues, trying

:28:40.:28:43.

to really get on top of where they have been and Renault are confident

:28:44.:28:46.

coming into this event that they have made progress. So we're going

:28:47.:28:53.

to have to wait and see if that's the case. Also, reversion to a

:28:54.:28:56.

different chassis this weekend for Sebastian Vettel. I thought it was

:28:57.:29:00.

going to be a brand-new chassis, but it is a chassis they used in testing

:29:01.:29:06.

this year. Absolutely. It is interesting that because. He

:29:07.:29:15.

referred to it yesterday as a sanity check. It is a case of going back

:29:16.:29:18.

and evaluating and seeing if there is a problem. He said he didn't

:29:19.:29:21.

think there was a problem with the chassis, but it is interesting about

:29:22.:29:24.

the mindset. It plant add little seed in his -- planted a little seed

:29:25.:29:28.

in his head and they are going back to compare. Yes, very interesting.

:29:29.:29:32.

Hamilton and Rosberg separated by a tenth and Vettel's first flying lap

:29:33.:29:38.

some way off what they have done. 2.9 seconds off what the Mercedes

:29:39.:29:43.

are doing. Mercedes at the top and Ferrari next up. Ferrari next up

:29:44.:29:48.

behind the two cars. Button more promising up there in fourth, but it

:29:49.:29:52.

is early days. It is hard to read much into the whole of this session

:29:53.:29:56.

let alone the early times that come i It is just an indicator and they

:29:57.:29:59.

have a few more minutes to use this first set of tyres before they have

:30:00.:30:04.

to hand them back to the FIA. A couple more of your comments and

:30:05.:30:10.

questions coming in using the hashtag or on the BBC Sport

:30:11.:30:13.

Facebook. Thanks for your comments. We have

:30:14.:30:24.

got a stoppage for Vettel, he has just pulled over to the side of the

:30:25.:30:29.

road. That is a bit of a shock, Sebastian Vettel, on one of his

:30:30.:30:33.

early runs, he has completed four laps so far, and his car has come to

:30:34.:30:38.

a stop. This is not what Red Bull Racing I've now, they need the

:30:39.:30:41.

mileage, they want to check out the improvements. -- this is not what

:30:42.:30:48.

Red Bull need right now. This is the first thing that can happen, wasting

:30:49.:30:55.

valuable testing. He puts the steering wheel back on, get a bit of

:30:56.:30:58.

help from the marshals to push the car to a place of safety. Nice to

:30:59.:31:04.

see he has got involved in that, not just let them do it. Thing is not

:31:05.:31:08.

getting any easier for the reigning world champion. That is not the

:31:09.:31:13.

start of the weekend that you want, you want to get the miles in. What

:31:14.:31:19.

do we make about the strategy group plans for the cars to spark, glowing

:31:20.:31:25.

breaks. Surely F1 has more urgent issues to focus on, ie cost, says

:31:26.:31:32.

Amit. An interesting question, the strategy group is the elite teams

:31:33.:31:36.

that sits down and talk about what should be happening in the future,

:31:37.:31:39.

and there had been some comments that they want to make it more

:31:40.:31:44.

exciting, more dramatic, maybe bring back cars parking down the straight

:31:45.:31:47.

and various other elements. What are your thoughts on this? I think that

:31:48.:31:53.

is all a bit knee-jerk, and you have to consider the entire package.

:31:54.:32:00.

is all a bit knee-jerk, and you have People are saying to bring back

:32:01.:32:01.

these things, but you have to be careful you do not

:32:02.:32:07.

and make another problem. Allan, what are your thoughts on this? I

:32:08.:32:10.

think what are your thoughts on this? I

:32:11.:32:13.

principle that you have to look at it as a long-term thing, we are very

:32:14.:32:21.

principle that you have to look at One. The Bahrain race was one of the

:32:22.:32:24.

best ever, all sitting on the edge of our seats right to the end.

:32:25.:32:27.

Things like making the cars spark a little bit, that is a reasonably

:32:28.:32:34.

simple thing to do, but we should let the systems settle

:32:35.:32:38.

simple thing to do, but we should we make any big judgments. Lewis

:32:39.:32:40.

Hamilton just running off the track with a minor lock-up, he is fastest

:32:41.:32:45.

in this session. Red Bull getting a bit of a boost, Ricciardo has gone

:32:46.:32:53.

third, minute-macro28.7. Dump one .20 8.7.

:32:54.:32:59.

It does not look as though anybody has certainly closed the gap

:33:00.:33:04.

massively, Jenson Button is currently fifth, Felipe Nasr is the

:33:05.:33:10.

Williams driver in sixth place, if you are unfamiliar with that

:33:11.:33:15.

abbreviation, it is Felipe Nasr, who is racing in GP2 this weekend. He

:33:16.:33:20.

has got a busy time! Kimi Raikkonen puts his Ferrari up into pit, much

:33:21.:33:24.

closer to Fernando Alonso. Joining us from the pit wall, we saw a shot

:33:25.:33:29.

of him earlier, Christian Horner from Red Bull.

:33:30.:33:32.

of him earlier, Christian Horner you? Could be

:33:33.:33:32.

of him earlier, Christian Horner Yeah, we are trying to understand

:33:33.:33:39.

what has happened to Sebastian's car out there. Any word from him as to

:33:40.:33:44.

what was going on? Total electrical shutdown, not quite sure what has

:33:45.:33:49.

caused it. That is radio and everything. Hopefully it is

:33:50.:33:52.

something reasonably simple, if we can get the car back and get out in

:33:53.:33:58.

the session again. Explain the situation with his chassis,

:33:59.:34:00.

originally we thought a brand-new one, but you are using one from

:34:01.:34:03.

testing. That is right, we make one, but you are using one from

:34:04.:34:08.

between four and five each year, they are circulated and rotated

:34:09.:34:11.

dependent on mileage and usage, and it was an opportune moment to change

:34:12.:34:20.

the chassis, chassis four, and he has now gone into the first one we

:34:21.:34:26.

produced. You would not normally do that, would you? Normally you would

:34:27.:34:30.

rotate to a new chassis, what is the thinking? When the driver has

:34:31.:34:43.

issues, when he's not comfortable, we try to support him, change the

:34:44.:34:49.

chassis. There might be a slight difference is that Sebastian gets a

:34:50.:34:53.

different feel from it. Talk about the Renault updates, they have been

:34:54.:34:55.

sounding quite the Renault updates, they have been

:34:56.:35:00.

this race, making big improvements, what is the story there?

:35:01.:35:03.

this race, making big improvements, stopwatch never lies, as you know.

:35:04.:35:05.

this race, making big improvements, We will reserve judgment until we

:35:06.:35:08.

see what happens on track. They are certainly working very hard, it is a

:35:09.:35:12.

very complicated card this year, we have got some ground to make up to

:35:13.:35:19.

the two Mercedes powered cars. So hopefully we have got something that

:35:20.:35:22.

can get as a little bit closer to them this weekend. Your own Red Bull

:35:23.:35:29.

team are working very closely with Renault now in terms of trying to

:35:30.:35:33.

get the next development from these engines. Very much so, the electrics

:35:34.:35:37.

are such a big part of how the engines operate, and the power unit

:35:38.:35:41.

management, engine recovery is a big element, and we have found ourselves

:35:42.:35:45.

on the back foot coming into the year, so all the resource that we

:35:46.:35:50.

can muster up and support the Renault guys with, we are doing our

:35:51.:35:54.

very best to support our colleagues over in Paris. Great, thank you for

:35:55.:35:59.

joining us, Christian, hopefully we will be speaking to later, best of

:36:00.:36:04.

luck getting the car back. Thank you. The track has gone a bit

:36:05.:36:09.

quieter, because those first tyres have been used, and also everybody

:36:10.:36:13.

is now just learning from what they have done already. Most have

:36:14.:36:18.

completed between five and ten laps, a little replay of Sebastian

:36:19.:36:23.

from a moment ago learning how to use a fire extinguisher, by the look

:36:24.:36:27.

of it. Maybe things were getting a little bit hot under the collar.

:36:28.:36:31.

Yeah, he was definitely a little concerned about things at the back

:36:32.:36:35.

of the car with the fire extinguisher, just in case something

:36:36.:36:40.

caught fire. A lot of heat being developed under there. Sebastian

:36:41.:36:43.

Vettel has not had a brilliant start, Lee McKenzie caught up with

:36:44.:36:46.

him yesterday and really checked in with him as to whether he feels the

:36:47.:36:49.

season is going to be starting properly for him here in Barcelona.

:36:50.:36:56.

For sure, you know, we need to start somewhere, so the first couple of

:36:57.:37:02.

races, I think, overall were positive for us as a team. If you

:37:03.:37:06.

look where we were in winter testing, you know, we got some good

:37:07.:37:11.

results, but we want more. We are not here to do well, we are here to

:37:12.:37:16.

do better than anybody else. At the moment Mercedes is doing the best

:37:17.:37:20.

job out of all the teams, so we know that there is a big gap, but we are

:37:21.:37:26.

extremely hungry to come back and start beating them very soon. For

:37:27.:37:33.

sure, you cannot catch up within one race, but hopefully, you know, we

:37:34.:37:39.

will start on the right foot back in Europe. That was Sebastian Vettel

:37:40.:37:43.

speaking yesterday, and things have not started brilliantly for him. A

:37:44.:37:50.

message from a viewer, has Ricciardo's results of a Vettel

:37:51.:37:53.

taken the shine off his championship wins? Was car strength more

:37:54.:37:59.

important than driver ability? Over to you, Allan! He is certainly

:38:00.:38:02.

having a tough time at the moment, we were talking about Lotus, really

:38:03.:38:08.

pushing hard, and they are going to do the back-to-back, you can see on

:38:09.:38:15.

the wing endplate, they have got two development parts that deflect the

:38:16.:38:20.

airflow around the wheel. The top one, which they have gone back to

:38:21.:38:23.

the previous spec, that is not on there. They are a big bit behind but

:38:24.:38:28.

still pushing on all the details moving forward. That is not the only

:38:29.:38:32.

thing they are pushing forward with, but it is certainly one of them. The

:38:33.:38:38.

Red Bull is now being brought back. Bradley is asking us, we know Lotus

:38:39.:38:44.

savings are improving, but do we think that is true? I think they

:38:45.:38:49.

will improve, because they are coming from a low starting point,

:38:50.:38:53.

having missed the first preseason test. The potential is there for

:38:54.:38:56.

them to make more progress than anybody else. I hope they do,

:38:57.:39:01.

because last year they finished as Red Bull's only real threat, and

:39:02.:39:05.

with Romain Grosjean doing so well, it would be nice to see him back at

:39:06.:39:10.

the sharp end. Yes, he was the star of the latter part of last year, the

:39:11.:39:14.

only one who took the challenge to the leaders, and it seems a long

:39:15.:39:19.

time ago now. Interesting, has its taken the shine off Vettel?

:39:20.:39:25.

Yesterday, Daniel Ricciardo was asked whether he now considers

:39:26.:39:30.

insult the Red Bull team leader, at which he smiled and said, not yet, I

:39:31.:39:35.

don't think. But people are asking more questions, and it is definite

:39:36.:39:40.

that last year Sebastian got to grips with that car a lot better

:39:41.:39:45.

than Mark Webber did, the blown exhaust car, and he was able to

:39:46.:39:55.

drive that in a way that suited him, and now that has gone and he is

:39:56.:39:59.

finding this car difficult. He's not getting the most out of the tyres,

:40:00.:40:03.

and Christian Horner himself said that is an unusual situation for

:40:04.:40:09.

Sebastian. Hopefully he can address that, but I think that is where the

:40:10.:40:13.

problem has been. Daniel has been better at that. Daniel spoke to lead

:40:14.:40:18.

yesterday, that would be a feature on the Formula One coverage over the

:40:19.:40:22.

weekend, something to watch out for, but a great start to his career with

:40:23.:40:26.

Red Bull. Looking inside the Caterham pit, Marcus Ericsson, the

:40:27.:40:31.

Swedish driver in his first season of Formula One. His car was on pole

:40:32.:40:35.

position in GP2 last year here, leading at one stage, but contact

:40:36.:40:40.

with another car put him out of the race. Slightly revised nose on the

:40:41.:40:44.

Caterham, it still has the different approach to the other cars with that

:40:45.:40:49.

rather flat surface, but a bit more depth to the elements that joins

:40:50.:40:55.

onto the front wing. In Mercedes, things looking very composed and

:40:56.:40:59.

good at the moment. Bob Bell is still there at the moment, he is

:41:00.:41:02.

going to be working through much of the next few months but he has

:41:03.:41:05.

actually given in his notice to quit, but he is still around. A very

:41:06.:41:11.

strong member of that impressive technical department at Mercedes at

:41:12.:41:16.

the moment. Absolutely, they had a five aside the more technical

:41:17.:41:18.

directors, which was highly impressive! We gather that we are

:41:19.:41:24.

having some problems with sound, we sorry about that. Hopefully we can

:41:25.:41:28.

get that fixed as soon as is on. Hopefully it is not causing you to

:41:29.:41:34.

much... But we will be sounding it -- sorting it out as soon as we can.

:41:35.:41:39.

Work going on with the cars, and an opportunity for us to catch up with

:41:40.:41:43.

some of the comments drivers were making yesterday coming into this

:41:44.:41:47.

event. Nico Hulkenberg has been having a very good season so far, in

:41:48.:41:51.

the top six at every single event, fourth in the championship, ahead of

:41:52.:41:56.

both Red Bull drivers. But coming into this event, it is all about

:41:57.:42:00.

updates on the cars up and down the pit lane to try to improve the car.

:42:01.:42:03.

They have had a bit of time before this race to do it, and so we caught

:42:04.:42:08.

up with Nico Hulkenberg yesterday and asked how the updates might

:42:09.:42:13.

affect the order this weekend. It might change little bit in the

:42:14.:42:17.

midfield. You know, now we are talking a lot, I hear stuff like

:42:18.:42:22.

Sauber is bringing lots of stuff, but we won't really know until

:42:23.:42:26.

Saturday, really. And even Saturday is not the true teller, that will be

:42:27.:42:32.

the race. But for us, Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari, they are more or less

:42:33.:42:37.

battling in their own world, and our main competition out of these boys,

:42:38.:42:41.

we need to keep a good eye on Williams, McLaren, Sauber, Lotus. If

:42:42.:42:46.

we can beat them regularly, that is very good. I thought it was

:42:47.:42:49.

interesting that he included McLaren, as we look at the McLaren

:42:50.:42:55.

top brass, Sam Michael, Eric Boullier, Ron Dennis, he included

:42:56.:43:01.

McLaren in the group they are having to beat, because Force India are

:43:02.:43:05.

doing a better job. A sensational job when you consider their

:43:06.:43:09.

respective budgets, and they did it all last year. They have done a

:43:10.:43:13.

fabulous job, and it is a nice, effective car that looks after the

:43:14.:43:18.

tyres well, and it has got Nico Hulkenberg in the car, and the

:43:19.:43:21.

ingredients are there for them to have another impressive year, I

:43:22.:43:26.

think. He has had a top six results, Perez has been up and down, a

:43:27.:43:31.

nonstarter, a brilliant podium finish in Bahrain,

:43:32.:43:32.

nonstarter, a brilliant podium of a mixture, but nonetheless forced

:43:33.:43:38.

India are having a good, strong start to the season. Romain Grosjean

:43:39.:43:42.

doing a practice starts down the end of the pit lane. Very easy,

:43:43.:43:48.

composed, no problem. Maldonado is going to be doing much the same

:43:49.:43:51.

thing. It is nice to see Lotus at last going through the normal steps

:43:52.:43:56.

of a race weekend, because we have not seen them able to do it very

:43:57.:44:00.

often. Before, they were lucky to get to the end of the pit lane, but

:44:01.:44:06.

they are getting some milage on the Friday, Grosjean got more milage

:44:07.:44:10.

that anybody else. Finally they are getting the data, the systems

:44:11.:44:11.

checks, and hopefully, getting the data, the systems

:44:12.:44:16.

talking about, they will be back at the sharp end sooner rather than

:44:17.:44:21.

later. Allan and Lee have made their way to Mercedes, Martin has written

:44:22.:44:23.

to us, any exhaust that Mercedes are testing? I

:44:24.:44:29.

believe that will be tested this coming week. And on that theme, Mark

:44:30.:44:32.

says, any artificial fixes to coming week. And on that theme, Mark

:44:33.:44:35.

improve the show will not coming week. And on that theme, Mark

:44:36.:44:38.

with the viewers. Some thoughts from some of the guys writing to us. As

:44:39.:44:46.

you see right now, the Mercedes team have got Nico Rosberg's car up in

:44:47.:44:50.

the air, Nico as is Helmut off, he has been putting eye drops in,

:44:51.:44:52.

having a drink. They are doing something under the floor, they are

:44:53.:44:57.

a bit reticent to tell us what it is, but a few people are there,

:44:58.:45:02.

a bit reticent to tell us what it this will not be going out in the

:45:03.:45:03.

next ten or 15 minutes. this will not be going out in the

:45:04.:45:04.

now the circuit is not at its best, this will not be going out in the

:45:05.:45:09.

it is not really lost time. On the other side of the garage, Lewis

:45:10.:45:14.

Hamilton is intensely focusing on the data of what he has got to do

:45:15.:45:16.

later in the session. We heard the data of what he has got to do

:45:17.:45:21.

Rosberg complaining that the area around his seat was

:45:22.:45:25.

Rosberg complaining that the area Well, there is a lot of energy. You

:45:26.:45:27.

have got the battery system behind and the engine and even although it

:45:28.:45:35.

is not producing the revs did did in the past, there is a tremendous

:45:36.:45:40.

amount of energy. If there is a tiny hole, the heat will go into the

:45:41.:45:49.

driver's cockpit area. It is sunny and think about what it is like with

:45:50.:45:56.

the helmet and the overall. Look at the number of people in the Mercedes

:45:57.:46:01.

garage. If they had a pound for every person in there, they would be

:46:02.:46:05.

richer than they are. Lewis Hamilton is just getting out of his car at

:46:06.:46:08.

the moment. That's what is just getting out of his car at

:46:09.:46:14.

Formula One team is. There is experts in every area and there is

:46:15.:46:20.

the technical experts, but it is not a one-man band. There is no

:46:21.:46:24.

question. There is new parts getting lifted off and they are trying to

:46:25.:46:28.

cover what we're trying to show at the moment. But you can see there,

:46:29.:46:32.

they are just standing in front. They don't want the cameras to

:46:33.:46:37.

they are just standing in front. too close. It is understandable in

:46:38.:46:39.

the situation when they have got an advantage and they don't want to

:46:40.:46:42.

show the rest of the world what the advantage is even if it is not in

:46:43.:46:48.

this area of the it is a mind game just protecting what they have. The

:46:49.:46:51.

guy in the front, everybody wants to look at them and Red Bull on the

:46:52.:46:55.

other side are sitting further away and they have got the problems of

:46:56.:46:59.

their own right now with the issue that Sebastian Vettel had, but all

:47:00.:47:05.

eyes are on Mercedes and why they have their speed. We make a big

:47:06.:47:09.

issue about everyone bringing so many updates to catch Mercedes.

:47:10.:47:14.

Mercedes job is to bring their updates to stay so far ahead of the

:47:15.:47:20.

field and that sometimes is harder. It is easier when you have a huge

:47:21.:47:23.

time advantage over the rest of the field. They had two seconds

:47:24.:47:28.

advantage at some points in the first couple Grand Prix and with

:47:29.:47:32.

that in your pocket you can afford to be careful in your developments

:47:33.:47:36.

over the season. They will have an advantage, I'm sure it will be

:47:37.:47:40.

closer with Ferrari and with Red Bull catching up and the circuit

:47:41.:47:45.

characteristics suiting their cars more than the previous ones. When

:47:46.:47:49.

you have that advantage, you can pick and choose when you bring your

:47:50.:47:53.

updates. The pressure is on the others to catch up. When your car

:47:54.:47:58.

has been so dominant. Is there a fear of putting something on the car

:47:59.:48:01.

for the sake of putting something on the car and not getting it to work

:48:02.:48:05.

as well. Sometimes should you not just leave it, because it is about

:48:06.:48:09.

development Formula One, but they are so far ahead? Well, the

:48:10.:48:13.

advantage this team has they were out of the blocks earlier and better

:48:14.:48:17.

and more reliable than the opposition and they were able to

:48:18.:48:22.

understand their car earlier. They went to the first race in Australia

:48:23.:48:25.

and we had that damp and drying qualifying session, they knew what

:48:26.:48:29.

to do. Whereas for the others, it was a bit of a guess in what they

:48:30.:48:33.

were going to be doing and so from that point of view, Mercedes are a

:48:34.:48:37.

lot ahead in terms of their understanding of that new technology

:48:38.:48:42.

as Lewis Hamilton is still doing his little fixes. He is going through

:48:43.:48:46.

with someone there, they are playing with the steering wheel and

:48:47.:48:49.

therefore, I would assume at this stage, that he is having some

:48:50.:48:53.

explanations on various little settings that they are going to be

:48:54.:48:58.

working with in the next part of the session. We will let you know when

:48:59.:49:02.

the Mercedes are back out on track. The two Lotus cars are going around

:49:03.:49:06.

and Maldonado has gone third fastest which is impressive. 1.28.7.

:49:07.:49:13.

Grosjean has gone across the line 11th fastest. This

:49:14.:49:15.

Grosjean has gone across the line moment ago when he just outbraked

:49:16.:49:19.

himself a fraction into the final chicane. But otherwise, sorted it

:49:20.:49:22.

out. So that might have cost him time. But Maldonado has gone third

:49:23.:49:26.

fastest, but a lot of attention, as you say, will be on Mercedes this

:49:27.:49:31.

weekend, that battle between the two team-mates, a bit of debris being

:49:32.:49:34.

picked up on track, but Lewis Hamilton had a brilliant start to

:49:35.:49:38.

the season. There is no doubt about that as Tom caught up with him

:49:39.:49:44.

yesterday. Well, I mean, I mean I'm very grateful for the experience

:49:45.:49:48.

that I've had so far this year, to be able to come to races and know

:49:49.:49:51.

that you have a chance to fight and for the results that I've had, it

:49:52.:49:55.

has been an incredible experience. So I'm forever grateful for those

:49:56.:49:58.

and it has been a real blessing this year. So I'm counting my blessings

:49:59.:50:04.

and hoping that the future is still bright and it continues that way.

:50:05.:50:07.

Speaking to some of your rivals, they will throw the kitchen sink at

:50:08.:50:12.

this race, lots of new parts coming. How confident are you that Mercedes

:50:13.:50:16.

will maintain their advantage this weekend? Well, they are throwing the

:50:17.:50:20.

kitchen sink, we'll throw the bathtub. We will keep pushing and

:50:21.:50:25.

trying to improve and do better, but yeah, I mean, whatever they give,

:50:26.:50:29.

we'll give back just as much if not more, but we want that competition.

:50:30.:50:34.

We want people to be pushing. We want to be able to fight people. I

:50:35.:50:38.

feel this weekend, I don't know, what we've got in store. I know

:50:39.:50:43.

we've made a step as everyone normally does, but people are going

:50:44.:50:46.

to have to have made a significant step to have caught us.

:50:47.:50:50.

Well, he is talking with confidence there, isn't he, Tony, they are

:50:51.:50:55.

going to have to have made a significant step. You know there is

:50:56.:50:59.

more to come. The thing that illustrated the advantage was when

:51:00.:51:02.

we had the race where they had the safety car and they opened up a huge

:51:03.:51:06.

margin, they were over two seconds quicker. The gloves were off. You

:51:07.:51:10.

could see what they could. They were racing each other. That was the

:51:11.:51:14.

picture and I mean, try closing that down in a few races, it won't

:51:15.:51:21.

happen, will it? Comment from Dan, saying the Mercedes car is more

:51:22.:51:27.

dominant than Seb's Red Bull was. If Mercedes win, are people going to

:51:28.:51:33.

treat it with as much disdain? Hamilton has an effective team-mate

:51:34.:51:35.

and they have been allowed to race and that's the key. And talking of

:51:36.:51:40.

his team-mate, let's see what Nico Rosberg had to say to Tom yesterday.

:51:41.:51:45.

Tom starting the interviewing saying the last few races Hamilton had the

:51:46.:51:49.

rub of the green. I want to take the rub of the green

:51:50.:51:53.

back this weekend. It is very important and you know, I need to

:51:54.:51:57.

change the momentum around, you know. He had the result momentum to

:51:58.:52:03.

him lately and just like last year, it went to and from us I need to

:52:04.:52:08.

change it around and bring it back on my side and get the win. How can

:52:09.:52:13.

you do that? Is there something you can do as a driver to increase your

:52:14.:52:17.

pace? Just need to be on it. It's possible

:52:18.:52:24.

to beat him definitely. In I'm hon it and I get a good weekend then I

:52:25.:52:29.

can win and that's what I need to focus on and get it right this

:52:30.:52:32.

weekend. Nico Rosberg hoping to get it all

:52:33.:52:35.

right, but it hasn't been a perfect start to the weekend. Some issues

:52:36.:52:39.

there with his car at the moment, but the rivalry between them is what

:52:40.:52:43.

we can relish here and so far Tony, you know, Bahrain was the highlight

:52:44.:52:47.

of that, but let's not forget, he has the points advantage over Lewis

:52:48.:52:51.

Hamilton despite Lewis Hamilton's win? It could be 2-2. The Bahrain

:52:52.:52:57.

race could easily have gone his way and I said before that I think that

:52:58.:53:01.

was Lewis' race against the head. He conceded that Nico was quicker that

:53:02.:53:05.

weekend and yet, he won that. It is going to swing back and forth all

:53:06.:53:10.

the way through the season. The one I can't wait to go to is Monaco.

:53:11.:53:14.

That will be fabulous because they are both Monaco specialists. They

:53:15.:53:18.

both love the place and they have fought a tremendous battle through

:53:19.:53:26.

qualifying and Nico got it at 900ths sr or something. You only need two

:53:27.:53:30.

guys to make a race and we will see this through the year. Sebastian

:53:31.:53:34.

Vettel's car is back at the Red Bull pit. They maybe able to get him out

:53:35.:53:39.

in the latter part of this session. We were riding on board Jenson

:53:40.:53:43.

Button. It is encouraging from Button. He is sixth fastest. Let's

:53:44.:53:49.

run you through those times. Mercedes fastest, Hamilton ahead of

:53:50.:53:52.

Rosberg by three-quarters of a second to their nearest rivals and

:53:53.:53:57.

their nearest rival is Maldonado in a Lotus. Faster than the

:53:58.:54:04.

their nearest rival is Maldonado in lot. That does have some effect, but

:54:05.:54:08.

it is encouraging. Red Bull, Ferrari, as we would expect, two of

:54:09.:54:13.

them have been pretty close over the recent months. Then Button,

:54:14.:54:18.

Raikkonen is up there in the other Ferrari, Verne. Alan, you are at

:54:19.:54:26.

Ferrari now? Yes, we're down that. Kimi Raikkonen is in the pits and

:54:27.:54:30.

Alonso has gone out. There is a team that hopes to lift forward their

:54:31.:54:33.

performance here and they have done it with some aerodynamics.

:54:34.:54:36.

performance here and they have done see before the V-power, you have two

:54:37.:54:43.

slots in the bottom of the wing. Is on Kimi Raikkonen's car. He is go to

:54:44.:54:48.

go out. Fernando Alonso has gone out with only one slot. This team thinks

:54:49.:54:51.

go out. Fernando Alonso has gone out this will improve their performance

:54:52.:54:54.

over the lap, but they are not sure if it is too much drag or slow them

:54:55.:54:59.

down in the straight. They are doing a back-to-back before defining

:55:00.:55:02.

whether it is something they are taking forward into this afternoon's

:55:03.:55:07.

session. It is about testing different parts and bringing but

:55:08.:55:09.

parts to the track. Some more different parts and bringing but

:55:10.:55:15.

comments. Richard saying, "Do you think McLaren will be

:55:16.:55:17.

comments. Richard saying, "Do you it around?" Well, Richard, that's a

:55:18.:55:20.

question we are asking at the moment. They had a miserable time in

:55:21.:55:25.

China. But the track was front limited. The temperatures were cool

:55:26.:55:27.

and limited. The temperatures were cool

:55:28.:55:29.

They are hoping for better things. limited. The temperatures were cool

:55:30.:55:34.

now. He is seventh fastest. His team-mate, Kevin Magnussen, on a

:55:35.:55:37.

track, of course, that he raced on before which is a first as we

:55:38.:55:43.

mentioned. He won two of the World Series Renault races here to win the

:55:44.:55:48.

championship. He has got memories, Kevin Magnussen, the first time in

:55:49.:55:51.

the Formula One car and Button goes second fastest with that lap. That's

:55:52.:55:53.

encouraging. Mercedes second fastest with that lap. That's

:55:54.:55:57.

out for a while and the track is getting quicker and he is on a new

:55:58.:56:01.

set of tyres and that's encouraging. It is. As the weekend goes by,

:56:02.:56:05.

set of tyres and that's encouraging. get a good indication from Jenson's

:56:06.:56:10.

face as to whether they made any progress because he was down in the

:56:11.:56:13.

dumps at the last race and hopeful when they got here, this would suit

:56:14.:56:17.

the car better. It is promising, but there is a long way to go yet.

:56:18.:56:20.

the car better. It is promising, but Tomorrow afternoon we will get a

:56:21.:56:26.

proper indication of the situation regarding McLaren. Alonso attacking.

:56:27.:56:30.

He is on it. Every lap he does around this Caterham cat lun that

:56:31.:56:40.

circuit. Another DRA zone in the race. Looking on the thermal image

:56:41.:56:47.

camera. You are looking at how the heat builds up through the corners,

:56:48.:56:51.

through the long looping right-hand, you can see how the spread of

:56:52.:56:55.

temperature is good across the surface of the tyre. Now, this

:56:56.:57:00.

twisty section which finishes the lap. A complicated si cane that you

:57:01.:57:06.

have go -- chicane that you have to get the power on and again, a bit of

:57:07.:57:11.

correction. But, with these turbo charged engines and energy recovery,

:57:12.:57:17.

they have more power. TEAM RADIO: I have understeer.

:57:18.:57:23.

That's good news. It is probably doing what we expected. That's good.

:57:24.:57:26.

It is doing what they expected bearing in mind what change they

:57:27.:57:30.

made or new part they have added to that car. Alonso third fastest, but

:57:31.:57:37.

Button second quickest as we go on board with him and they have that

:57:38.:57:43.

non-score with both cars last time out, but McLaren should be able to

:57:44.:57:47.

bring themselves back up. A good first sector. The best of his so

:57:48.:57:52.

far. Not the fastest outright in the first sector. Alonso interestingly

:57:53.:57:56.

fastest in the first sector so far. You mentioned the non-score, they

:57:57.:58:01.

have had two in a row, haven't they? It is unusual for McLaren. That's

:58:02.:58:06.

right. Reliability in one race. It was clutch problems, wasn't it? They

:58:07.:58:10.

did admit they were experimenting with the clutch in that race in

:58:11.:58:13.

Bahrain and should have been able to score points there. But last time

:58:14.:58:18.

out, they just lacked pace. Well, it has been one of those seasons for

:58:19.:58:21.

Jenson Button where things have been up and down. Melbourne, of course,

:58:22.:58:26.

started off extremely well with a double podium finish, but things

:58:27.:58:30.

have been a little bit changeable ever since then. Let's catch up with

:58:31.:58:35.

what he had to say to Tom about that yesterday. For us, if you were

:58:36.:58:41.

Mercedes you expected them to be at the front for the next four races.

:58:42.:58:46.

For us, no, we expected to be more competitive. I think that weekend as

:58:47.:58:49.

a team, we did a great job on getting the best out of the car and

:58:50.:58:53.

everyone else has caught up now because they have found their feet.

:58:54.:58:57.

The last two races were up and down for us, you know. Bahrain we were

:58:58.:59:04.

quick. It is a limited quick and China it is

:59:05.:59:06.

quick. It is a limited quick and poor. It shows where our weaknesses

:59:07.:59:09.

is and the temperature change. We understand this car pretty well. We

:59:10.:59:15.

need more downforce. So more downforce required. This is a track

:59:16.:59:19.

that does test a car for downforce. Kevin Magnussen is the rooky driver.

:59:20.:59:24.

He is coming in from the Renault title win last year. He was elevated

:59:25.:59:29.

to one of the best teams in the business. The team is struggling

:59:30.:59:35.

over this period. Following on from Melbourne by Jenson Button was

:59:36.:59:39.

referring to in that interview. Magnussen tenth mastest, but Button

:59:40.:59:46.

-- tenth fastest. But Button fastest overall. We are seeing quicker

:59:47.:59:49.

times, but that's encouraging for Jenson Button and it does look as if

:59:50.:59:53.

McLaren have brought some updates that made a difference this time.

:59:54.:59:57.

They have been underplaying it in the press. Maybe they have decided

:59:58.:00:01.

not to shout too loud. There were occasions last year when they said

:00:02.:00:06.

we're going to do better and they weren't. Alonso on track. Let's see

:00:07.:00:10.

what this lap is going to be like. He is not actually on a particularly

:00:11.:00:15.

quick lap this time around. Maybe he is saving it up for the next one.

:00:16.:00:23.

Those two victories he has had around this vanished circuit have

:00:24.:00:27.

been the result of brilliant driving, but he has had a brilliant

:00:28.:00:33.

level of support here in Spain, and we would expect to see a massive

:00:34.:00:38.

crowd. Hopefully his podium finish last time out will encourage a few

:00:39.:00:43.

more Spanish runs out. Interesting crash helmet design for Adrian Sutil

:00:44.:00:47.

in the Sauber, a very different design for the German driver. We

:00:48.:00:51.

have the lightweight chassis is here this weekend, they have had to

:00:52.:00:55.

redesign the chassis slightly to try to meet the target weight this year.

:00:56.:01:01.

I would have thought they would take the paint of the helmet rather than

:01:02.:01:07.

do that! Adrian Sutil in difficulty because he is that much heavier that

:01:08.:01:14.

Esteban Gutierrez. It is tough, because any disadvantage is

:01:15.:01:16.

magnified, when you are talking about all the systems in the cars,

:01:17.:01:22.

you don't really want to be Adrian Sutil's weight. I think it should be

:01:23.:01:29.

legislated out so it is not a disadvantage. Every ten kilograms is

:01:30.:01:38.

about three seconds at lap, that is why it all matters, and some

:01:39.:01:42.

about three seconds at lap, that is have been on severe diets. Sutil

:01:43.:01:45.

said he went a few days without eating at all to see how was Bobby

:01:46.:01:49.

Reid acted, and he discovered it did not react very well. -- to see how

:01:50.:01:56.

his body reacted. He has now stopped doing such extreme measures, but we

:01:57.:02:02.

have heard talk of drivers getting into physical difficulties, not

:02:03.:02:05.

running water Bottas in an extreme desire to be as light as possible.

:02:06.:02:09.

-- water bottles. At the start of the season, Massa,

:02:10.:02:26.

even though he was smaller, was saying, they know what they have got

:02:27.:02:31.

to achieve, and he was saying, tough. But then he would! Because he

:02:32.:02:37.

is lighter! Magnuson across the line, still in the top ten, eighth

:02:38.:02:44.

fastest, Button currently quickest. We saw Raikkonen a moment ago,

:02:45.:02:49.

Maldonado still up in seventh place with the Lotus, looking into the

:02:50.:02:56.

Williams pit at Felipe Nasr, who will also be in the GP2 race this

:02:57.:03:01.

weekend, he has got a busy time of it. He comes from Brasilia, part of

:03:02.:03:06.

the huge number of Brazilians that have tried to make their name in

:03:07.:03:07.

formal one. He was have tried to make their name in

:03:08.:03:13.

Champions in 2009, a former British F3 champion with Carlin motorsport.

:03:14.:03:18.

A very impressive junior career, like so many of these guys, winning

:03:19.:03:24.

on the levels coming up, but getting into Formula One and delivering in

:03:25.:03:28.

Formula One is quite another matter. Jules Bianchi on track in the

:03:29.:03:32.

Marussia, and that battle with Caterham currently is being led by

:03:33.:03:39.

Bianchi, who has done a lap time faster than Van der Garde and

:03:40.:03:53.

Kobayashi. His engineer has gone to be the overall leader of engineering

:03:54.:03:58.

at the track, and he has a new engineer for

:03:59.:03:58.

at the track, and he has a new pretty well. Yes, he was my data

:03:59.:04:07.

engineer at Toyota. Francesco came from Sauber. He knew it would be

:04:08.:04:11.

happening prior to the season starting, but this is his first

:04:12.:04:14.

Grand Prix in that particular position. Now there is a certain

:04:15.:04:18.

amount of a get to know you period, but both being Latin, they work on a

:04:19.:04:24.

similar mindset, if you like, but Francesco has a terrific amount of

:04:25.:04:27.

experience of what Formula One is about today, and I think that will

:04:28.:04:31.

help Marussia in their move forward. Bianchi has had a bit of a

:04:32.:04:36.

difficult season so far this year, in terms of delivering results. It

:04:37.:04:41.

is Chilton who has had two 13th place finishes to get Marussia into

:04:42.:04:46.

tenth position. I think Bianchi will be looking to deliver slightly

:04:47.:04:50.

better results. I think it is amazing, when you consider that Max

:04:51.:04:55.

Chilton has finished 23 consecutive Grands Prix, the previous record was

:04:56.:05:00.

16. I think that is incredible for a rookie, to be honest. Kimi Raikkonen

:05:01.:05:04.

sliding around quite a lot, but a lot of work still going on at

:05:05.:05:06.

Mercedes. Pretty frantic, lot of work still going on at

:05:07.:05:11.

underneath it in the battery pack area. They have a technical issue,

:05:12.:05:16.

Nico Rosberg standing to the side, looking at us now! He was looking at

:05:17.:05:21.

the date, sort of tapping his foot, just hoping they can get it

:05:22.:05:25.

rectified so he can get out before the end of the session. On the other

:05:26.:05:29.

side of the garage, Lewis Hamilton is not in the car either, both

:05:30.:05:34.

Mercedes looking reasonably comfortable. Either that, or they

:05:35.:05:36.

are definitely one step behind. think they are reasonably

:05:37.:05:41.

comfortable, even though they have a technical issue. You can see the

:05:42.:05:45.

frustration in his face as he marches out of the Garrard, has the

:05:46.:05:48.

look down the pit lane and back in again. Meanwhile, Lotus doing

:05:49.:05:55.

better. His team-mate, Grosjean, 16th fastest, but they have been

:05:56.:06:00.

putting laps together, which was not having earlier this season, and they

:06:01.:06:04.

always said this track would give them an opportunity to deliver and

:06:05.:06:08.

show what they can do. Last year they were very competitive. Let's

:06:09.:06:13.

not forget that Kimi Raikkonen finished second here for Lotus,

:06:14.:06:16.

following up on a podium from the previous season. My goodness, that

:06:17.:06:18.

almost caught, the back previous season. My goodness, that

:06:19.:06:22.

Sauber snapping one way and very nearly flitting, he just about

:06:23.:06:26.

sorted it out, even though he has to use a bit of the gravel on the

:06:27.:06:30.

outside. A frightening looking moment for Adrian Sutil, he could

:06:31.:06:35.

have gone off heavily to the left. Now he is doing a fairly gentle lap.

:06:36.:06:39.

have gone off heavily to the left. Recovery, by the looks of it. Adrian

:06:40.:06:44.

Sutil not having the best start. Sauber have had a tough time,

:06:45.:06:48.

talking about the wait, that is one thing, but reliability has not been

:06:49.:06:52.

great for them, he has had three non-finishes in a row. Not what you

:06:53.:06:58.

expect from them, not the normal Swiss, clockwork reliability. No, it

:06:59.:07:04.

isn't, they were famed for starting seasons really well and only losing

:07:05.:07:10.

a bit of ground when the development race... My goodness,

:07:11.:07:13.

a bit of ground when the development in the other car,

:07:14.:07:18.

a bit of ground when the development turn one. I had a brake failure, I

:07:19.:07:21.

nearly missed! The brakes are not working any more! Red failure, about

:07:22.:07:29.

as scary as a Formula One driver gets. Any driver, that is the

:07:30.:07:39.

scariest thing, into turn one, you have to have total confidence, but

:07:40.:07:44.

you could hear him having a moment, Giedo van der Garde. Yeah,

:07:45.:07:49.

definitely. Tony, not a typical start to the year. They used to

:07:50.:07:54.

start well and lose pace when the development race kicked in because

:07:55.:07:57.

of their smaller budget, but this year they have had a problem from

:07:58.:08:05.

the same budgetary issues apply. Let's hope they can get that

:08:06.:08:10.

started... Sorted out with the new car. Niki Lauda chatting with Nico

:08:11.:08:17.

Rosberg, he has been talking in the press about how he wants to see the

:08:18.:08:20.

battle between the team-mates continue, and for the moment

:08:21.:08:23.

Mercedes should allow them to race one another. The danger is that, as

:08:24.:08:28.

soon as the other teams get a little closer and do start to put pressure

:08:29.:08:32.

on Mercedes, then Mercedes may have to say to the two drivers, you can't

:08:33.:08:37.

race against each other, we have to look after the first priority, to

:08:38.:08:40.

win the title. Absolutely, Toto Wolff admitted that

:08:41.:08:46.

at the last race, saying we might have to reassess the situation

:08:47.:08:50.

later. There have been instances throughout racing history where

:08:51.:08:51.

dominant teams have won most of throughout racing history where

:08:52.:08:59.

battles and lost the war. They will be desperate to avoid that

:09:00.:09:03.

situation. But at the moment, they have not really got a close

:09:04.:09:06.

competitor in sight, so I think they are safe at the moment. We will keep

:09:07.:09:10.

an eye on that, look at the lap times over the weekend. Let's have a

:09:11.:09:15.

look at alarms, fourth fastest at the moment, the tyres have done a

:09:16.:09:23.

few laps. -- Alonso. The initial shine from a brand-new set of tyres

:09:24.:09:26.

has been done, it can be difficult to match that through the session.

:09:27.:09:31.

25 minutes to go, Giedo van der Garde is in the pit lane having his

:09:32.:09:35.

brakes attended to. As we heard, a pretty frightening incident for him,

:09:36.:09:38.

hopefully they can get that sorted and send him on his way. One of the

:09:39.:09:42.

photographers had quite a scary moment as well, I imagine he is

:09:43.:09:47.

having a recovery moment as well! Not much fun down there when you

:09:48.:09:53.

think they are heading into turn one at over 200 mph. Top of the speed

:09:54.:09:58.

trap at the moment is Felipe Massa with Mercedes power, but Van der

:09:59.:10:03.

Garde, from earlier, I know it was not that particular lap, but he had

:10:04.:10:09.

done 331 kph, so over the 200 mph mark. Van der Garde, of course, with

:10:10.:10:16.

Renault power, that is going to be a little bit encouraging.

:10:17.:10:19.

Renault power, that is going to be a is cooling issues on Rosberg's car,

:10:20.:10:25.

the ERS system cooling is a problem. That is why there is so much work on

:10:26.:10:29.

his car, and hopefully they will be able to get it back out. We are

:10:30.:10:32.

still waiting to see if Vettel will get back out. Look at the amount of

:10:33.:10:36.

sliding from the Ferrari! This is what we love to see from this breed

:10:37.:10:41.

of car, these hybrid cars delivering a huge amount of power and sliding

:10:42.:10:46.

around. We have seen that from the start of the year, it was apparent

:10:47.:10:51.

as soon as we saw them, we thought it was great. Allan, we have been

:10:52.:10:56.

talking about Sauber, what are you seen down there? I am just in front

:10:57.:11:00.

of Giedo van der Garde, he is shaking his hand at me, suggesting

:11:01.:11:04.

it was a very tricky moment going into turn one. It was not a complete

:11:05.:11:09.

brake failure, but when he hits the paddle, it did not slow down as much

:11:10.:11:13.

as he wanted. They have taken the shrouds of the calibre and disc,

:11:14.:11:17.

starting to investigate. They are not sure where it is as we speak. We

:11:18.:11:23.

are seeing a back-to-back front wing test here for the Ferraris. They

:11:24.:11:30.

have brought Fernando Alonso in, they take one nose cone off, put

:11:31.:11:35.

another one on, get immediate they take one nose cone off, put

:11:36.:11:38.

from the revised setup, and this gives them that kind of knowledge

:11:39.:11:43.

they need to know which is the best one, will it correlates to what they

:11:44.:11:47.

have seen in the wind tunnel? On track at the moment, Pastor

:11:48.:11:52.

Maldonado with the Lotus, Diarra is in operation down into turn one.

:11:53.:12:00.

Maldonado is currently in the top ten. -- DRS. Perez and Hulkenberg

:12:01.:12:06.

quite evenly matched, this is another track where he will be one

:12:07.:12:13.

to watch, he always goes well here. There are tracks when Sergio Perez

:12:14.:12:16.

can be quite difficult to beat, and if he is on the case, I think

:12:17.:12:19.

Hulkenberg could have his hands full this weekend. That drive the team

:12:20.:12:24.

forward, and that is what they need, no doubt about it. Getting into the

:12:25.:12:29.

top ten will be harder and harder, because we have got Lotus now

:12:30.:12:31.

becoming where they should be, getting into the top ten, and that

:12:32.:12:35.

will make it harder for all those teams like McLaren, Force India,

:12:36.:12:43.

Toro Rosso, to still be in there. Perez had a great drive in Bahrain,

:12:44.:12:48.

but he has a particular affinity for that place, remember the battle with

:12:49.:12:51.

Jenson Button last year. It is going to be tough, because not only has he

:12:52.:12:58.

got to beat the Lotuses, but his own team-mate is, you know, a pretty

:12:59.:13:03.

formidable yardstick. Yeah, definitely, we will see what Force

:13:04.:13:08.

India can do, Perez and Hulkenberg looking forward to continuing the

:13:09.:13:11.

good series of scores they have been having. Maldonado, much slower than

:13:12.:13:18.

earlier, may be running more fuel in the car, experimenting with

:13:19.:13:21.

different setups. We are on board with Ricciardo in the Red Bull,

:13:22.:13:25.

currently second-fastest to Jenson Button. The Mercedes cars have not

:13:26.:13:30.

been out for quite a long time, they only did laps earlier, when they

:13:31.:13:34.

were three quarters of a second faster than anyone else, but in the

:13:35.:13:37.

meantime Button and Ricciardo have gone quicker, and we are still

:13:38.:13:40.

waiting to see Mercedes back on track. It could be a while for

:13:41.:13:44.

Rosberg because of the cooling problems he is suffering. Coming up

:13:45.:13:52.

through the tighter section now, turn 12, a lot of load on the left

:13:53.:13:57.

front tyre, down into 13, a quick left-hander before anchoring up for

:13:58.:14:03.

14 and 15. Vital to get good traction, using a bit of the curve.

:14:04.:14:08.

And then it is a question of trying to keep the throttle planted

:14:09.:14:12.

And then it is a question of trying the final corner, not as fast as he

:14:13.:14:15.

achieved earlier, but that is to be expected. The car tapping the floor

:14:16.:14:24.

as it hits the straight. Luca di Montezemolo here for Ferrari again

:14:25.:14:27.

this weekend, he has introduced a new boss for the team since the last

:14:28.:14:33.

time we saw him in Bahrain, when he made some fairly derogatory comments

:14:34.:14:36.

about the new Formula One, and then of course we saw one of the best

:14:37.:14:41.

races we have seen in years, somewhat amusing! And now he is back

:14:42.:14:46.

again to see how his new charge is getting on at Ferrari, I guess. Yes,

:14:47.:14:51.

it will be interesting to see if he comes out with any comments here.

:14:52.:14:56.

After a podium last time out, a great performance for them, no

:14:57.:15:00.

change in the outright standings. Alonso has now put this different

:15:01.:15:05.

front nose cone on, and we will see... Well, he will see whether it

:15:06.:15:09.

is better, difficult for us to see from the outside, he will be

:15:10.:15:13.

reporting back in terms of real, but the data loggers will be delivering

:15:14.:15:17.

numbers, which is more important. Allan, now it is so data driven,

:15:18.:15:22.

isn't it? In the old days, it was much more about the driver and what

:15:23.:15:25.

he reported to the engineers, but now they look at the numbers. The

:15:26.:15:32.

first time I drove a Formula One car, there was no data at all. How

:15:33.:15:38.

driven by data and the drivers have driven by data and the drivers have

:15:39.:15:50.

suggest something, the driver is the one with the steering wheel

:15:51.:15:58.

suggest something, the driver is the flashing around like mad right now.

:15:59.:16:01.

Alonso is flying around in terms of how he is attacking the corners. He

:16:02.:16:04.

probably doesn't have the tyre grip, but Tony great to watch because he

:16:05.:16:09.

is on the limit everywhere. He is spectacular. Fernando's car always

:16:10.:16:12.

is on the limit everywhere. He is had an aggressive Body Language. If

:16:13.:16:16.

you thought he has been hugely busy more so than ever? I think, he gets,

:16:17.:16:21.

he is prepared to live with the back gets on the power and he can live

:16:22.:16:27.

with that. Interestingly Sebastian Vettel who has been struggling with

:16:28.:16:33.

this year's car and it maybe the looseness, Chrissian Horner referred

:16:34.:16:39.

to it saying that Christian is feeling uncomfortable with the

:16:40.:16:42.

amount the rear of the car is moving around because he is used to a

:16:43.:16:47.

different feel. Alonso getting on the power and winding the opposite

:16:48.:16:48.

lock on. Great to watch and the power and winding the opposite

:16:49.:16:53.

enjoyable. Allan what do you make of it? Alonso has just come into the

:16:54.:16:58.

pits. Looking at his left front tyre, the front tyre has grained

:16:59.:17:03.

hard, but the rear tyre is looking good. Last year it was the rear

:17:04.:17:07.

tyres that Ferrari really struggled with, so they will be happy the

:17:08.:17:11.

options they've got. But Kimi Raikkonen is trying a new rear wing

:17:12.:17:15.

section. They had the rear wing off that car and that's bolted back on

:17:16.:17:18.

so maybe he will have another run before the end of the session.

:17:19.:17:24.

Daniil Kvyat Daniel Ricciardo having to hang on to a bit of bodywork on

:17:25.:17:29.

the Red Bull. Going back to what you were saying about Sebastian Vettel

:17:30.:17:34.

Ben, he is comfortable with the car that oversteers. He admits that, he

:17:35.:17:38.

drives aggressively, but this year he is losing more time. It is not as

:17:39.:17:42.

efficient. I mean, having said that, the car is still very, very good

:17:43.:17:50.

aflt. I think -- good. If I think if you like at the splits, it is in the

:17:51.:17:57.

twisty sections. If they make the progress with the power unit, that

:17:58.:18:02.

will be a challenging car. I agree. We will see more from Red Bull as we

:18:03.:18:05.

go through the course of the season. There is 17 minutes to go in this

:18:06.:18:13.

session. Thanks for your comments. Don't forget to keep an eye on the

:18:14.:18:16.

live text on the Formula One website, the BBC Formula One website

:18:17.:18:20.

as well. Nigel Jackson saying mer sees yesterday will -- Mercedes will

:18:21.:18:28.

bring upgrades, but will they keep them back? Perhaps they could do

:18:29.:18:32.

that, but this is Formula One. Everyone pushes you so hard, you

:18:33.:18:38.

can't really afford to sit back and if you get complacent, that's when

:18:39.:18:46.

you will get caught. A wry smile on Sebastian's face as he is caught

:18:47.:18:50.

having some fruit. Maybe a chance for him to go back out in the car.

:18:51.:18:59.

There is Luca Cordero di Montezemolo With Marco Matti. Christian now you

:19:00.:19:11.

have had a chance to get Se bastian's car back. Can you explain

:19:12.:19:17.

what the problem is? It is an electrical issue. He He won't be

:19:18.:19:31.

running this session. Is that related to the chassis change? No,

:19:32.:19:36.

all the parts are interchangeable and get stripped after each race.

:19:37.:19:46.

Not unique to the whatsy for sure. We have not really seen what

:19:47.:19:51.

Mercedes can deliver. It looks like they are being conservative on

:19:52.:19:55.

mileage at the moment. You would have to assume, you know, as the

:19:56.:19:59.

circuit improved that the Mercedes would go, you know, a bit quicker.

:20:00.:20:03.

Just feeling our way into the circuit and working on the set-up.

:20:04.:20:08.

Just talk to us about Daniel Ricciardo. You are being asked about

:20:09.:20:10.

him so much at the moment because he has put in such a great start to his

:20:11.:20:16.

career with your team, but just tell us how he is fitting and what you

:20:17.:20:21.

are seeing from this guy? Well, Daniel has been known to the team

:20:22.:20:25.

for a few years. He was our test driver and reserve driver and

:20:26.:20:30.

simulator driver and came through the junior ranks as a Red Bull

:20:31.:20:35.

junior. He well-known to the team, what really impressed suss how he

:20:36.:20:38.

dealt with the pressure of stepping up into the top team and obviously

:20:39.:20:44.

alongside Sebastian. He has a great attitude. He is working extremely

:20:45.:20:48.

well with all the guys. He is certainly, very, very quick. Well,

:20:49.:20:53.

it seems to be a marriage made in heaven from the way he is delivering

:20:54.:20:58.

with this car and going into this weekend, do you really believe that

:20:59.:21:02.

you have got a car, a package, that you can challenge the Mercedes? I

:21:03.:21:06.

know it is early to say anything at the moment, we have not seen much

:21:07.:21:10.

from them, but where do you see yourselves, do you see yourselves

:21:11.:21:13.

fighting for third or do you think you can really take it to them this

:21:14.:21:18.

weekend? You have got to say we would be fighting for third, but

:21:19.:21:22.

hopefully we have reduced that gap and you know, once we can start to

:21:23.:21:27.

reduce that gap and put them under pressure then, you know, anything

:21:28.:21:32.

can happen. But hopefully we will be looking to see if we reduce the gap

:21:33.:21:38.

from the second plus that was in China. We have been talking during

:21:39.:21:42.

our broadcast about some of the ideas coming from the strategy group

:21:43.:21:46.

about ways of making Formula One even more exciting. I mean, the

:21:47.:21:51.

first question is do we need to after races like Bahrain for

:21:52.:21:55.

example? But what are your thoughts, Christian? Are there any ideas that

:21:56.:22:02.

should introduced? It needs to be a pure flat out race from start to

:22:03.:22:04.

finish, pure flat out race from start to

:22:05.:22:08.

and it should be a sprint race. There is some good discussions going

:22:09.:22:11.

on and I think Formula One is conscious that we have a

:22:12.:22:14.

responsibility and duty to the fans. It needs to be, you know, an

:22:15.:22:19.

exciting show and the cars need to be exciting to watch. It needs to be

:22:20.:22:24.

a challenge for the drivers and it needs to be man and machinery at the

:22:25.:22:28.

limit. Thank you very much for your input and we will catch up with you

:22:29.:22:31.

later in the day. Thanks. Jenson Button fastest in this

:22:32.:22:36.

session. We have got just over 12, just under 12-and-a-half minutes to

:22:37.:22:39.

go now and we are riding on board with Jenson Button here as he heads

:22:40.:22:44.

down into turn one. Let's just watch him through the corner. A ritical

:22:45.:22:49.

corner -- a critical corner this is turn three. Watch this. Just goes on

:22:50.:22:59.

and on. A lot of strain and then you have got to lean on it again turning

:23:00.:23:04.

into turn four. And that's the area of track which really does load up

:23:05.:23:10.

the tyres. Allan, I don't know if you have got a chance to watch that.

:23:11.:23:14.

You can see it, just how much work the left-hand side of the car is

:23:15.:23:17.

having to do on that section? There is a lot of long corners on the

:23:18.:23:24.

circuit. The left-hand side tyres get a heck of a pounding. You really

:23:25.:23:29.

see the tyre deforming and moving around. It is something that from

:23:30.:23:33.

the energy point of view is huge for the fIr manufacturers around -- tyre

:23:34.:23:38.

manufacturers and Pirelli with the compounds they brought that they are

:23:39.:23:43.

on the conservative side because the circuit is dirty. It is dusty. There

:23:44.:23:47.

is pollen blowing around in the pit lane right now, but that will

:23:48.:23:51.

improve as the weekend progresses. Button now into the latter part of

:23:52.:23:53.

the lap once again. We have got the Button now into the latter part of

:23:54.:24:01.

throttle. That gives us a clue of how he is having to feed the power

:24:02.:24:06.

in. Not quite flat through the final corner. He has to feed it in on that

:24:07.:24:08.

section and on to the DRA sz he corner. He has to feed it in on that

:24:09.:24:16.

comes down the main -- DRS he come down the main. Hamilton has gone out

:24:17.:24:20.

and he is doing a quick lap right now. Fastest first sector of anybody

:24:21.:24:26.

for Lewis Hamilton. So he is doing a good job so far. Let's go down to

:24:27.:24:30.

the pits though because while Lewis Hamilton is going quickly we have

:24:31.:24:33.

one of the bosses of Mercedes talking to Allan. You must be happy

:24:34.:24:39.

because Lewis Hamilton has done the fastest fast sector, but Nico

:24:40.:24:45.

Rosberg doesn't look like he is going back out again. The track

:24:46.:24:52.

resolution is getting better. With Nico's car, we have a problem, but

:24:53.:24:56.

it should be OK for the second free practise. Can you tell us what the

:24:57.:24:59.

it should be OK for the second free problem is? Yeah, it is in

:25:00.:25:02.

it should be OK for the second free to the, it is a mechanical problem

:25:03.:25:03.

in the power unit. OK. That's a to the, it is a mechanical problem

:25:04.:25:09.

description there! I will leave it to you. With regard to performance,

:25:10.:25:11.

are you feeling that Ferrari, to you. With regard to performance,

:25:12.:25:14.

you feeling that Red Bull will be the main competition this weekend? I

:25:15.:25:19.

think you cannot underestimate both of them for various reasons. With

:25:20.:25:23.

Ferrari, the power unit group is integrated and the chassis group and

:25:24.:25:27.

it is clear they are going to make big steps and Red Bull is never

:25:28.:25:31.

going to stop pushing. Both of them will be the main contenders. I will

:25:32.:25:34.

let you get back to the lap will be the main contenders. I will

:25:35.:25:38.

whether Lewis Hamilton can pop to the top of the leaderboard. I hope

:25:39.:25:43.

so. Lewis Hamilton backed off in the middle and latter part of the lap.

:25:44.:25:47.

We are riding on board with him now and he has done a quick first sector

:25:48.:25:53.

again. Gets out of shape as he comes out of turn four and down to turn

:25:54.:25:58.

five. No lock up. Tidy into the apex. That is good and strong on the

:25:59.:26:03.

exit. A touch of kerb used. TEAM RADIO: GPS a poor. You will

:26:04.:26:08.

have to make your own space. Make your own space. Understood.

:26:09.:26:12.

Ricciardo is going to have to find a gap in the traffic because they

:26:13.:26:15.

can't help him from the pit wall. We're watching Lewis Hamilton on to

:26:16.:26:20.

the second DRS zone. Down into turn ten. A car up ahead of him.

:26:21.:26:24.

Hopefully that won't cost him too much. Now up into this final sector.

:26:25.:26:30.

The car moving around a bit, but more on the front end. He backed off

:26:31.:26:34.

again. He did a very fast middle sector. Faster than anybody else,

:26:35.:26:38.

that would have been the fastest time by some margin, but he backed

:26:39.:26:43.

it off and he is not completing the lap. Is he coming into the

:26:44.:26:46.

it off and he is not completing the going to go again and

:26:47.:26:48.

it off and he is not completing the run? Rosberg is looking closely at

:26:49.:26:54.

that. Eles He will have seen the sector times and knows Hamilton

:26:55.:27:02.

backed off. We are with Felipe in the Williams. He is doing a descent

:27:03.:27:10.

job for the team. Susie Wolff will be testing for Williams at the test

:27:11.:27:27.

that takes place in Barcelona. Susie Wolff will be taking part in the

:27:28.:27:38.

German and French Grand Prix. Let's cafe on watching Nasr. We are up to

:27:39.:27:47.

23 degrees now. The track temperature was below the air

:27:48.:27:51.

temperature. It was running at 17 degrees. But it has gone up four or

:27:52.:27:55.

five degrees quickly as we are getting towards noon local time. It

:27:56.:28:01.

is 11. 20 at the moment. The temperatures are building and that

:28:02.:28:05.

won't be helping the drivers set faster lap times. There is Felipe

:28:06.:28:14.

Massa in the other Williams. Not quite achieving a podium

:28:15.:28:17.

Massa in the other Williams. Not which they would love to do. Now we

:28:18.:28:20.

are into the development race and Williams is a team that doesn't have

:28:21.:28:24.

the heavy hitting budget that some of the other teams have Tony, but

:28:25.:28:30.

there is a lot of frt and a lot of -- effort and engineering thought

:28:31.:28:33.

going into how they can spend the money and stay up there in the race?

:28:34.:28:38.

There has been a lot of personnel changes. Pat Symonds coming in as a

:28:39.:28:46.

technical director, they have Rob Smedley and I think they will make

:28:47.:28:49.

some good forward progress, I really do. Rob Smedley seems to be, I said

:28:50.:28:55.

this to Clare Williams yesterday, that he is a perfect fit and she

:28:56.:29:01.

agreed. The way he goes about his job. The way he interacts with the

:29:02.:29:06.

drivers and the team personnel. He has fitted into Williams perfectly.

:29:07.:29:12.

Rob is a racer, isn't he? Right from the days when he was at Jordan and

:29:13.:29:21.

through the relationship he established with Felipe Massa at

:29:22.:29:27.

Ferrari. They call a spade a spade and get on with it. There is no huge

:29:28.:29:32.

egos. I really think they have got a good blend there now.

:29:33.:29:38.

OK, Clare Williams saying he is an impressive addition to the team.

:29:39.:29:41.

They have made a few technical recruitments over the last year. She

:29:42.:29:44.

feels happy now with the group of people that they have got and now it

:29:45.:29:47.

is a question of kind of building with that group. Also, you have got

:29:48.:29:51.

to look at the drivers in the whole equation and the two

:29:52.:29:54.

to look at the drivers in the whole Massa is uncomplicated, Valtteri

:29:55.:29:58.

Bottas is uncomplicated. He just wants to get on with it. It is a

:29:59.:30:02.

great mix. He had a little spat about the team orders early on. That

:30:03.:30:08.

was put to bed. Now, I really think we'll start to see the fruits of

:30:09.:30:10.

that. There you are, Lewis Hamilton has

:30:11.:30:16.

just gone fastest. That puts him seven tenths faster than anybody

:30:17.:30:21.

else. His tyres are fresher than a lot of drivers who has been setting

:30:22.:30:25.

laps recently. He has done 14 laps and that was too wide over the kerb,

:30:26.:30:31.

over the white line, but he had to two qheles -- wheels on the kerb.

:30:32.:30:37.

Let's see what happened to Jean-Eric Vergne. A slight lock up on the left

:30:38.:30:41.

foot. That's interesting, normally it is the right front. The unloaded

:30:42.:30:47.

tyre that tends to lock. Dealt with that without any issues. Button is

:30:48.:30:56.

second and that's encouraging for for McLaren. Daniel Ricciardo is

:30:57.:31:01.

third for Red Bull. The only Red Bull that's been able to do a

:31:02.:31:03.

representative because Sebastian Vettel had problems. Sebastian

:31:04.:31:07.

Vettel did only four laps and then had to pull off to the side of the

:31:08.:31:11.

road and we've heard from Christian Horner that they have had an

:31:12.:31:14.

electrical problem and the car will be sorted for this afternoon. Please

:31:15.:31:24.

try not to speak to me when I am in the braking zones. Copy that, Lewis,

:31:25.:31:30.

maybe it is a delay on GPS. Lewis making the point that when he gets

:31:31.:31:36.

spoken to over the team radio, when he is really putting a hard slap, he

:31:37.:31:42.

does not want to be disturbed. -- he is really putting a hard slap, he

:31:43.:31:50.

halt lap. Maybe they had not got the positioning of his car quite right

:31:51.:31:54.

from the GPS map on their screens on the pit wall. They are trying to

:31:55.:31:59.

only speak to the driver when he is in a particular zone, but if the GPS

:32:00.:32:09.

is playing up, that is difficult. Nico Rosberg believed it when he

:32:10.:32:12.

thought he was down in qualifying. You can't always believe these

:32:13.:32:19.

things. Romain Grosjean in the Lotus, let's see whether he can

:32:20.:32:23.

improve on this lap. No significant improvement so far. Thank you for

:32:24.:32:28.

your comments and questions coming in through the course of this

:32:29.:32:32.

session. Another question from Alex, have I ever driven a Formula One

:32:33.:32:36.

car? I can tell you I haven't, but one man who has is the man who I am

:32:37.:32:43.

spoken to, Tony, how did that happen? It was actually for a

:32:44.:32:47.

magazine launched about 18 years ago. It is not accurate to say I

:32:48.:32:51.

drove the car, it is more accurate to say the car drove me! It was

:32:52.:32:55.

about an hour before the test session, 830 in the morning, come

:32:56.:33:02.

what may, it was pretty daunting, I spun four times. What car was it? It

:33:03.:33:13.

was a Terrell, Allan's team-mate. -- Tyrell. A couple more of your

:33:14.:33:19.

comments... Rear tyres are really taking a beating. Interesting, it

:33:20.:33:25.

was tyre wear, or tyre degradation that really hurt Hamilton here last

:33:26.:33:28.

year when he had a miserable time. He was quoted as saying it was one

:33:29.:33:33.

of the worst races of his career in the way that the race went, because

:33:34.:33:39.

he dropped like a stone, both Mercedes had a tough time. Rosberg

:33:40.:33:44.

started from pole and ended up sixth by managing his tyres. This will be

:33:45.:33:48.

a concern, reporting the rear tyres going away. Yeah, we will keep a

:33:49.:33:53.

close eye on the lap times this afternoon. This is one of the more

:33:54.:34:00.

abrasive circuits. Yeah, so the race runs later today in second

:34:01.:34:03.

practice, we will get an opportunity to see what they do on the medium

:34:04.:34:08.

compound, the softer of the two this weekend. That has not been used at

:34:09.:34:14.

all in this first part of practice. Hamilton on top, Button

:34:15.:34:17.

second-fastest, unlikely to see any changes now. Ricciardo for Red Bull,

:34:18.:34:25.

Alonso for Ferrari. Rosberg not able to respond, only nine laps Jude to a

:34:26.:34:30.

cooling issue. Not the perfect start to the weekend, Rosberg saying

:34:31.:34:34.

yesterday that he needs a smooth weekend. You don't always get them,

:34:35.:34:39.

losing laps in a session like this does hurt you further down the line,

:34:40.:34:43.

you lose that extra information, that extra bit of data, and for the

:34:44.:34:49.

driver to really get his eye in. An extra few laps

:34:50.:34:55.

driver to really get his eye in. An a second is likely to be the

:34:56.:34:57.

difference between Hamilton and Rosberg, and those extra laps can

:34:58.:35:02.

help you find that time. I think Hamilton will get across the line

:35:03.:35:05.

and set a slightly better lap time than his previous best, 1:27.0 for

:35:06.:35:12.

Lewis Hamilton, and it has been a pretty good start to the weekend for

:35:13.:35:16.

the driver who was won the last three Grands Prix in a row. If we

:35:17.:35:20.

compare that with practice one from last year, we are a couple of

:35:21.:35:29.

seconds down. 1:25.2 was the lap time from Fernando Alonso in first

:35:30.:35:35.

practice, 1:27.0 for Lewis Hamilton, about 1.8 seconds slower than last

:35:36.:35:40.

year. That is to be expected, in fact we were seeing lap times slower

:35:41.:35:43.

than that under the new regulations, much less downforce on

:35:44.:35:49.

the cars this year than last year, and the downforce here in Barcelona

:35:50.:35:53.

is crucial to a fast time. That reduction in downforce that has been

:35:54.:35:56.

brought about by the rules will account for a lot of that gap in

:35:57.:36:01.

time, and the new power units delivering a similar sort of

:36:02.:36:04.

horsepower, in fact more in a straight line, so that sort of makes

:36:05.:36:08.

up for some of the loss of downforce. So Hamilton, I think,

:36:09.:36:12.

would be fairly satisfied with downforce. So Hamilton, I think,

:36:13.:36:18.

team-mate. A better start for the British driver than his German

:36:19.:36:20.

colleague. Rosberg finding himself down in fifth place in the times

:36:21.:36:25.

from a time he did much, much earlier in the session. Let's run

:36:26.:36:27.

you through the times. A little moment ago, that was

:36:28.:36:48.

Sutil running wide, he was 15th fastest from Bianchi, Grosjean, Van

:36:49.:36:52.

der Garde, Chilton, Vettel, Kobayashi and Ericsson. The two

:36:53.:36:59.

Caterhams complete the line-up. Thanks very much, Benjamin and

:37:00.:37:02.

Tony. A disappointing session for some, and maybe that speaks louder.

:37:03.:37:13.

Sebastian Vettel only managed four laps. For the

:37:14.:37:18.

Sebastian Vettel only managed four tested, that will be a problem. Also

:37:19.:37:22.

for Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton was fastest, his team-mate, putting in

:37:23.:37:25.

the complete programme. That would be more critical for the race

:37:26.:37:30.

result, because this is where Mercedes had real trouble. - fast in

:37:31.:37:34.

qualifying, but in the race they dropped back. Lewis has got that

:37:35.:37:38.

experience of what the tie is like, admitted Lee on a pretty green

:37:39.:37:45.

circuit. Giedo van der Garde's art will be beating a little bit fast.

:37:46.:37:49.

It's the brake with maximum pressure, the car does not slow

:37:50.:37:56.

down, and that was a great issue, on board with him, you can see he is

:37:57.:38:00.

having to turn into the corner, the barrier coming up extremely quick.

:38:01.:38:06.

Not a total brake failure, but a big technical issue, and he said, yo,

:38:07.:38:16.

yo, yo! It was touch and go, leave. Ferrari have not won a race since

:38:17.:38:21.

this race last year, Luca di Montezemolo is in

:38:22.:38:25.

this race last year, Luca di putting the pressure on. Maybe that

:38:26.:38:28.

is a good sign, to put the pressure on. He came out a minute ago with

:38:29.:38:33.

Fernando Alonso, put his arm around him, in deep conversation. Ferrari

:38:34.:38:37.

need some pressure, they need to perform, because right now they are

:38:38.:38:41.

not the second team, they are third or fourth, and this weekend is where

:38:42.:38:45.

the European season starts, but to some extent this is for the future,

:38:46.:38:52.

for 2015. Thanks, Allan. Fernando Alonso is the local hero, today he

:38:53.:38:56.

is having big discussions, can he turn things around before FP2? Join

:38:57.:39:01.

us on BBC Two at one o'clock, bye-bye.
