Good morning from Interlagos. The sun is shining. The wind has picked | :01:07. | :01:14.
up. We are expecting temperatures to get into the 80s. Very different | :01:15. | :01:19.
yesterday, a lot warmer. Hamilton impressed us. Half a second faster | :01:20. | :01:25.
than Rosberg. A hours later in free practice to it was almost the exact | :01:26. | :01:30.
reverse, Rosberg leading Hamilton by almost exactly the same gap. | :01:31. | :01:34.
Hamilton has already been crowned champion but the battle for second | :01:35. | :01:43.
is still up for grabs. 21 points separate the jury. -- two. Mercedes | :01:44. | :01:54.
became champions in Russia. In the pit lane we have Tom | :01:55. | :02:12.
Clarkson. What are conditions like? On the fees that this is perfect | :02:13. | :02:17.
conditions for the team to warn cars for qualifying. Track temperature of | :02:18. | :02:22.
40 degrees. The ambient is in the mid-20s which is great for me and | :02:23. | :02:27.
Jenny. There is a bit of a tail wind which could make braking for Turn 1 | :02:28. | :02:31.
a little bit tricky. What will bother the teams as the green nature | :02:32. | :02:38.
of the track, and what I mean is the robber was washed away yesterday in | :02:39. | :02:43.
a huge storm last night. The track conditions are going to change as | :02:44. | :02:50.
more rubber gets laid down. An ever-changing racetrack. That should | :02:51. | :02:55.
make it very interesting for us. As always you can get involved in the | :02:56. | :03:09.
session. We have the live feed up and running. We will endeavour to | :03:10. | :03:13.
read out as many comments as possible. It is going to be a busy | :03:14. | :03:17.
session. It is going to be a good session to get everyone going for | :03:18. | :03:23.
qualifying. Mercedes had the edge yesterday and the question is | :03:24. | :03:25.
whether anyone can get close to them. For qualifying pace it is | :03:26. | :03:32.
going to be tough for anyone to get close to the Mercedes. The Williams | :03:33. | :03:38.
are close enough to challenge the Ferraris, but the Ferraris pace | :03:39. | :03:57.
looked good. Rosberg on a roll of four pole positions. Hamilton | :03:58. | :04:00.
looking to take his 50th pole position. It has been a while. He | :04:01. | :04:05.
has been waiting for that since the Italian Grand Prix, Monza, where he | :04:06. | :04:11.
last took pole position, is 49. Plenty of fans in the grandstands | :04:12. | :04:16.
already looking forward to a hot and sultry day. Looking at temperatures | :04:17. | :04:20.
going a bit for Sunday. It looks as if the track is going to be very | :04:21. | :04:26.
warm. As Tom was suggesting as we get to qualifying. It is likely to | :04:27. | :04:30.
get hotter as we go through this session. Jenson Button looks happy | :04:31. | :04:36.
enough but it was not a particularly inspiring day once again for | :04:37. | :04:40.
McLaren. Engine failure, power unit sell your. That restricted Fernando | :04:41. | :04:51.
Alonso. Jenson was 13th, but I do not expect there to be a week in | :04:52. | :04:55.
form suddenly from that team. It is a tough circuit from them because | :04:56. | :05:00.
there are two main sectors to accelerate up out of the last | :05:01. | :05:05.
corner. A long steep uphill section and you need good acceleration, good | :05:06. | :05:15.
hybrid work out of their -- fog. This final practice session before | :05:16. | :05:19.
qualifying, crucial to do final checks. Towards the end of the hour | :05:20. | :05:26.
it will be quite late before we see them put the soft tyre on and really | :05:27. | :05:28.
go for it. them put the soft tyre on and really | :05:29. | :05:33.
go for it. The soft tyre had about a 1 second advantage on that | :05:34. | :05:37.
performance. Only able to get one lap out of the tyre. Hamilton tried | :05:38. | :05:41.
to do a small that and go again but it was not quite quick enough. In | :05:42. | :05:45.
longer run pace that gap did shorten. They are out onto the | :05:46. | :05:51.
medium tyre and will be keeping those soft tyres for later. | :05:52. | :05:56.
Raikkonen and Vettel did well yesterday. Raikkonen was fifth in | :05:57. | :06:02.
the morning and fourth in the afternoon. Vettel was third. It | :06:03. | :06:08.
looks as if Red Bull could be the best of the rest. We will have to | :06:09. | :06:17.
wait and see. Power unit change. There might have gone back to one | :06:18. | :06:23.
they used in Mexico at McLaren. Yes. The one that failed yesterday was | :06:24. | :06:28.
the one in Boston in Texas. It is the latest specifications from Honda | :06:29. | :06:34.
on that one but they added problem in Austen. Continuing the battle | :06:35. | :06:48.
withdrawal Rosso in the constructors' championship. A | :06:49. | :06:52.
difficult night for Romain Grosjean who lives in Paris. He must have a | :06:53. | :06:56.
lot going through his head. He must exclude that and get on with | :06:57. | :07:02.
driving. The boss of Ferrari keeps an eye on his team's progress to see | :07:03. | :07:07.
whether Vettel and Raikkonen are going to be able to challenge those | :07:08. | :07:17.
Mercedes at the top. Nasr put in a decent run yesterday. Sauber might | :07:18. | :07:20.
not be as far off as some of the other tracks. Yes, I think when the | :07:21. | :07:25.
circuit robbers in some people I am not too sure were at their peak | :07:26. | :07:31.
yesterday. I would expect them to slip back in little bit. Nasr Max, | :07:32. | :07:40.
this is his home crowd. Fully be mass has always been good round | :07:41. | :07:46.
here. Sauber will be hoping for a lot from him this weekend because it | :07:47. | :07:51.
is grated take battle for Toro Rosso. Now Sir Mike was 14th in the | :07:52. | :08:02.
first session. A lot of family support. I am sure people who | :08:03. | :08:06.
supported him through the years in his racing career. He comes from a | :08:07. | :08:10.
racing family. I am sure they will be delighted to be with him this | :08:11. | :08:14.
weekend. Hamilton in no hurry to come out on track. No sign of Lewis | :08:15. | :08:21.
just yet. They are waiting to see how the track develops and come out | :08:22. | :08:27.
later in the session. We can get more information from Mercedes | :08:28. | :08:30.
because Tom Clarkson is with their technical director Paddy Lowe. | :08:31. | :08:35.
Neither of your drivers are in their garage, it seems as if you are going | :08:36. | :08:39.
to let other people clean the track for you. That is about it. Do you | :08:40. | :08:44.
expect the track conditions to have changed? We expect hurts to have run | :08:45. | :08:49.
onto the track with the rainwater so it is quickly cleaned up. Yesterday | :08:50. | :08:54.
morning you did a lot of work for 20s extreme, various aerodynamic | :08:55. | :09:02.
bits, did you make progress? Yes. We learned quite a bit. We do a lot of | :09:03. | :09:07.
testing on Friday. Some of the things yesterday were perhaps more | :09:08. | :09:10.
visible than usual. With the absence of normal track testing Friday | :09:11. | :09:15.
Practice 1 is a very important session for that sort was a good | :09:16. | :09:19.
day. Rosberg yesterday afternoon was the second clear of the next | :09:20. | :09:28.
non-Mercedes car. Yes. His pace looked very strong but I think | :09:29. | :09:31.
Ferrari were not performing at their best. They were talking about that | :09:32. | :09:36.
so we may see them step forward today. We are not ruling that out. | :09:37. | :09:40.
What is the programme for this morning? When will we see you? | :09:41. | :09:51.
Shortly. They had a template over Nico Hulkenberg's head down to the | :09:52. | :09:57.
front of the cockpit. There are regulations of where the driver can | :09:58. | :10:01.
sit and the minimum height between that line between the role to plan | :10:02. | :10:07.
the dashboard, in case the car is upside down, so that the driver's | :10:08. | :10:12.
head is not exposed to the tarmac for example, therefore the driver | :10:13. | :10:16.
has to sit in a box and at quite a low-level hate and they were | :10:17. | :10:22.
checking that. Why this morning? They double check these things. | :10:23. | :10:26.
Sometimes the FIA check them to make sure. Also as he has changed his | :10:27. | :10:31.
eight position for example. I used to do that for certain circuits if I | :10:32. | :10:35.
had to look into the apex of the corner. I do not think he has grown | :10:36. | :10:40.
anything. It is to make sure that regulation is OK. Jennie, you have | :10:41. | :10:48.
air update from Williams. Yes. Yesterday that the red flag came out | :10:49. | :10:58.
and when it was out Bottas was summoned to the stewards for | :10:59. | :11:01.
breaching regulations. He has been given a drop of three places on the | :11:02. | :11:06.
grid for tomorrow. He also has two penalty points awarded to those | :11:07. | :11:10.
licence. He was not particularly happy and did not think that should | :11:11. | :11:16.
have been the case. He goes back three places. It will be keen to | :11:17. | :11:19.
make the most of the situation and see where he can go. He was hoping | :11:20. | :11:26.
to try to get onto the podium this weekend and beat his team-mates, | :11:27. | :11:30.
which the Brazilians would not be happy about. He is disappointed. | :11:31. | :11:39.
That fight between Bottas and Raikkonen is pretty hot. He felt he | :11:40. | :11:42.
had no choice because there were cars slowing ahead of them and he | :11:43. | :11:47.
had to overtake the car as the red flag came out but the stewards felt | :11:48. | :11:53.
otherwise. One of the stewards as my old team-mate from Toyota. | :11:54. | :11:58.
Talk us through the section of the track he is on. He is on the long | :11:59. | :12:03.
start and finish straight. It is always turning, always load on the | :12:04. | :12:09.
right-hand side tyres. What you do not realise from the on-board camera | :12:10. | :12:14.
is the fact that it is so steep up there and as he turns into this | :12:15. | :12:18.
left-hander how much it drops down into that right and flattens out | :12:19. | :12:23.
through the long left-hander. This corner is a little bit different to | :12:24. | :12:28.
last year because there are new curbs put in so the cars cannot cut | :12:29. | :12:38.
as much. We were talking about penalties. The only other penalties | :12:39. | :12:42.
we know about is attend placement for Daniel Ricciardo because he has | :12:43. | :12:46.
gone to the revised specification of Renault engine. That gives him a ten | :12:47. | :12:53.
place penalty. We have a three place penalty for Bottas. We saw Perez | :12:54. | :12:57.
coming out of the pits with a bit of wheel spin. The black marks all the | :12:58. | :13:01.
way down the pit lane where the drivers have been coming out and | :13:02. | :13:05.
doing little burn-outs and then they have to all the way to the end the | :13:06. | :13:12.
pit lane before they can actually do their practice. It is unusual at the | :13:13. | :13:16.
circuit but it is because as you exit the pit it is impossible. I | :13:17. | :13:21.
feel some pulling to the left on the brakes. It has often been a bit of a | :13:22. | :13:28.
problem to get the braking right for the braking right for Felipe Massa. | :13:29. | :13:34.
This circuit is tampered to the right so the car tends to pull a | :13:35. | :13:39.
little bit. In his first run, he is quickest at the moment, brake | :13:40. | :13:44.
temperature side to side, if there is a little distortion, maybe 30 | :13:45. | :13:48.
degrees difference, it can make a difference. Rosberg getting closer | :13:49. | :13:54.
to coming out but still no action from either of the Mercedes drivers. | :13:55. | :14:03.
We have yet to see Jenson Button come out. Thank you for your | :14:04. | :14:12.
comments. Simon asks, you have driven at Interlagos, which was | :14:13. | :14:21.
tougher, the speed of F1 or at the longevity of the W C race? I think | :14:22. | :14:27.
the longevity. This is quite a physical surface. It is a | :14:28. | :14:32.
left-handed track. Normally the predominant number of circuits are | :14:33. | :14:35.
right-handed. There are only four that are left-handed. We have just | :14:36. | :14:48.
seen Perez come through there. This Turn 4 dipping down through turn | :14:49. | :14:53.
five it is all working on the side that is not normally that | :14:54. | :14:57.
well-trained. In Formula 1 the G-force these are quite | :14:58. | :15:01.
significantly less so the drivers do not have the same fatigue level as | :15:02. | :15:06.
before. One thing about sports car racing is overtaking with traffic | :15:07. | :15:09.
and that was always tough because it is very narrow. | :15:10. | :15:13.
That could be a problem in the first part of qualifying when you have all | :15:14. | :15:20.
of the cars out there. It is easy to trip over a slower car. And the | :15:21. | :15:25.
tyres can only do one lap at peak performance. You will see drivers | :15:26. | :15:32.
bunching up to make sure they get a perfect exhilaration to start the | :15:33. | :15:36.
lap because if they can gain that little bit out of the final corner, | :15:37. | :15:40.
they carry it all the way to the first corner. Nasr has set the | :15:41. | :15:47.
initial pace. Perez immediately goes second fastest but early stages in | :15:48. | :15:54.
this final practice session as the track sits in the sunshine here in | :15:55. | :15:59.
the southern part of Sao Paulo. Looking at a replay of Perez, the | :16:00. | :16:05.
slow motion camera gives us a glimpse of that tiny lock-up which | :16:06. | :16:11.
was hardly anything, but a great slow motion shot. Felipe Nasr, maybe | :16:12. | :16:17.
a little error from him. This was coming up to Juncao. Doing a lot of | :16:18. | :16:24.
fiddling around on the steering wheel. He had also locked up his | :16:25. | :16:31.
front left when he was steering to the right. I can understand if he | :16:32. | :16:42.
might have a break in balance. -- imbalance. You have to have total | :16:43. | :16:45.
confidence on the brakes around here because there are a couple of big | :16:46. | :16:50.
braking areas, into the first corner and into turn 4. We were looking at | :16:51. | :16:59.
the track and the history and indeed the unpredictable weather. Is Brazil | :17:00. | :17:08.
as special as a European race, Ryan is asking? You would have to say | :17:09. | :17:14.
yes. And with the history as welcome it has been on the calendar since | :17:15. | :17:18.
the early 70s. There is a huge passion and it is one of the | :17:19. | :17:23.
significant tracks on the calendar. I think it is one that we should | :17:24. | :17:28.
maintain and keep on the calendar. The Brazilians have a tremendous | :17:29. | :17:31.
history in the sport and they are very passionate and bring a lot of | :17:32. | :17:37.
enthusiasm. On Sunday morning, all of the grandstands will be bouncing | :17:38. | :17:43.
with enthusiasm at 9am, five hours before the start. That is something | :17:44. | :17:50.
that the sport needs. The circuit is named after Carlos Pace who was a | :17:51. | :17:55.
driver in the early 70s and won the third time that Formula 1 came here | :17:56. | :18:01.
in 1975 when he was driving for Brabham. He was tragically killed in | :18:02. | :18:05.
a flying accident but is remembered through the name of the track, and | :18:06. | :18:10.
of course Emerson Fittipaldi, who won the first two races here at | :18:11. | :18:16.
Interlagos. Ferrari, this is Kimi Raikkonen. It was actually Niki | :18:17. | :18:22.
Lauda who took the first Ferrari win around this track in 1976 and Carlos | :18:23. | :18:28.
Reutemann won here the following year for the team. They are tied | :18:29. | :18:33.
with McLaren in terms of victories here, they both have eight victories | :18:34. | :18:38.
around Interlagos. And Ferrari has gone fastest. These lap times are | :18:39. | :18:46.
not close to the fast times from yesterday. Rosberg did a 1:12.3 | :18:47. | :18:54.
yesterday. And last year he was very quick. He did an 1:10.4 to go | :18:55. | :19:01.
fastest in FP3 and also took pole position. And his final time was | :19:02. | :19:08.
very close to the ultimate lap time around here, something I expect | :19:09. | :19:15.
could be beaten this year. But at the moment, they have not quite been | :19:16. | :19:21.
able to achieve those times, partly because of the temperatures and the | :19:22. | :19:25.
fact that the circuit does not seem to have rubber and in as well and | :19:26. | :19:30.
they have also been some changes to some of the Kaunas where the drivers | :19:31. | :19:38.
cannot cut as much -- to some of the corners. We are on board with the | :19:39. | :19:45.
sensation of the season in many ways, Max Verstappen, all of 18 | :19:46. | :19:50.
years old but what great manoeuvres he has been pulling off throughout | :19:51. | :19:53.
the season and consistent point-scoring latterly as well. He | :19:54. | :19:59.
takes this vital corner that leads up the steep hill and flat out on | :20:00. | :20:03.
the power. This is where he is down a bit with the Renault horsepower. | :20:04. | :20:14.
That breaking point into turn 1, how difficult is it to get spot on? It | :20:15. | :20:24.
is very tough because you break very late. There is a bit of a lift off | :20:25. | :20:30.
at the moment to get some hybrid regeneration. But you breaking about | :20:31. | :20:37.
50 metres from the corner. And as soon as you get to it, the road | :20:38. | :20:43.
camber is towards the apex so the inside left front wheel is very | :20:44. | :20:49.
unloaded and it is easy to lock-up. The difference between getting it | :20:50. | :20:52.
right or not is about a 10th of a second and in that time you have | :20:53. | :20:57.
done about nine metres. I was watching in the second practice | :20:58. | :21:01.
yesterday. What was noticeable was that the Mercedes can break very | :21:02. | :21:07.
late into that corner will stop they are running a lot of downforce. They | :21:08. | :21:12.
are up there on the speed traps but not miles ahead of everybody. I | :21:13. | :21:16.
think there downforce is helping them with their braking. It is for | :21:17. | :21:22.
this middle sector. The first and third sectors are all about | :21:23. | :21:27.
straight-line speed and acceleration but the middle sector that Sebastian | :21:28. | :21:30.
Vettel has just come through is all about downforce and grip. They also | :21:31. | :21:37.
accelerated so quickly between turn 1 and new Merrick two. Let's see if | :21:38. | :21:44.
Sebastian Vettel can beat that time, yes, a little quicker but we are | :21:45. | :21:49.
still not down to the rapid pace that we will see at the end of the | :21:50. | :21:52.
session was thank you for your comments. Katie thinks you are | :21:53. | :21:58.
taking styling tips from Eddie Jordan! I think he is taking them | :21:59. | :22:06.
from me! And do drivers specially trained their neck muscles for these | :22:07. | :22:10.
tracks? You don't actually have the same strike on your neck as before. | :22:11. | :22:16.
Where Raikkonen is now, it is just a long, big, fast left-hand bend so | :22:17. | :22:24.
you can sit your head against the headrest on the right-hand side to | :22:25. | :22:28.
take away the stress and strain. I was out on Turn 1 yesterday and it | :22:29. | :22:34.
is incredible to watch the cars going through. People are talking | :22:35. | :22:40.
about the kerbs this year, they are massive and have changed from last | :22:41. | :22:45.
year. Rosberg and Hamilton both said they were not particularly enjoying | :22:46. | :22:51.
them. It turns out that might be one of the reasons the cars are going a | :22:52. | :22:57.
bit slower because they can't go over the kerbs as much as they have | :22:58. | :23:01.
done, especially in turn eight and turn nine. It is adding on about 1.5 | :23:02. | :23:09.
metres to the length of the track. The drivers are not enjoying it. The | :23:10. | :23:16.
circuit is the same for everyone. It has changed a little bit. There is a | :23:17. | :23:25.
15 millimetre increase on the inside of the kerb. | :23:26. | :23:34.
If everybody has to go around it, it is the same as any other corner. We | :23:35. | :23:41.
just might not get lap records. Bottas goes third but a bit of way | :23:42. | :23:49.
off from the Ferrari time. Paul asks if the higher track ten bridges will | :23:50. | :23:53.
benefit Ferrari and if they can challenge Mercedes. -- track | :23:54. | :24:01.
temperatures. 33 degrees was the maximum we saw yesterday but 12 | :24:02. | :24:05.
months ago... Lewis Hamilton has stopped. That is in turn ten. He | :24:06. | :24:15.
hasn't actually completed a lap. RADIO: I've lost gears. He has found | :24:16. | :24:29.
something. He has done the old reset and it appears to have worked. It is | :24:30. | :24:34.
bizarre how these modern cars do this, so ruled by Ella Electronics. | :24:35. | :24:42.
That was a bit of a concern. They will probably want to check it -- so | :24:43. | :24:50.
ruled by electronics. It is not uncommon, they have had gearbox | :24:51. | :24:53.
problems through the year, mostly for Rosberg, he has lost quite a lot | :24:54. | :24:59.
of running time because of gay box issues. But the mechanics are so | :25:00. | :25:09.
dominant. -- gearbox issues. Many of you will have seen that his crash | :25:10. | :25:15.
helmet is designed slightly different, the yellow and green on | :25:16. | :25:21.
the back. He always had yellow but of course very much in memory of his | :25:22. | :25:26.
hero Ayrton Senna who he is trying to emulate by winning this race. How | :25:27. | :25:35.
is he able to have a new helmet with the FIA regulations? I think as long | :25:36. | :25:41.
as the design fundamentally stays as it is, he will get away with it. | :25:42. | :25:47.
Drivers have been experimenting. Sebastian Vettel keeps the same | :25:48. | :25:54.
design with some subtle changes. They are cottoning on a bit. I was | :25:55. | :26:01.
quite old-fashioned, I had the same design from when I first started | :26:02. | :26:06.
until my last race. It is a bit like a signature, the helmet is the | :26:07. | :26:13.
driver's signature. It is the only visible part we can see. Jennie? A | :26:14. | :26:21.
little interesting fact, they actually use the inside, the Phelps, | :26:22. | :26:29.
they use the old offcuts from Hamilton's in Sebastian Vettel's | :26:30. | :26:41.
helmet -- the felt. They have used the green part from Lewis | :26:42. | :26:46.
Hamilton's helmet inside Sebastian Vettel's that is odd! | :26:47. | :26:51.
Daniil Kvyat, a big slide and a bit of a wobble for the Russian. He has | :26:52. | :27:01.
been putting together a solid second half to the season. He said earlier | :27:02. | :27:07.
this weekend how it was a difficult start and a lot of that was down to | :27:08. | :27:12.
reliably. He felt that Barcelona was the turning point. What was | :27:13. | :27:19.
interesting, he said that last time in Mexico, when he was on for a | :27:20. | :27:26.
podium before the safety car, he got that was his best weekend of the | :27:27. | :27:31.
year so far. It all came together. He was a bit unlucky on the safety | :27:32. | :27:38.
car but he felt he did his job. This is only his second season in Grand | :27:39. | :27:41.
Prix racing. He is relatively inexperienced. He is experienced in | :27:42. | :27:47.
comparison to the stabbing but it will come to him. And going from | :27:48. | :27:53.
Toro Rosso last year with very little expectation to the total | :27:54. | :27:58.
expectation of matching up with annual Ricciardo. Also Red Bull | :27:59. | :28:05.
wanting to compete at the front. -- Daniel Ricciardo. His long runs | :28:06. | :28:15.
yesterday, he was able to do an equivalent long run in terms of pace | :28:16. | :28:20.
on the medium and soft tyre the Red Bull seems to switch on the medium | :28:21. | :28:25.
tyre but about anybody else. Felipe Massa on the circuit at the moment. | :28:26. | :28:33.
This is bigger Rosberg. Let's see if he has any problems with gear | :28:34. | :28:37.
changes -- Nico Rosberg. We saw Hamilton come out and stop | :28:38. | :28:51.
and go straight back into the pits. This is where he got to, Rosberg | :28:52. | :28:59.
goes through without any problems. Can he hold onto pole position | :29:00. | :29:03.
today? We will see if he can take it again, as he did last year and he | :29:04. | :29:07.
has done on the last four occasions this season. That shot you see more | :29:08. | :29:13.
of an idea of the climb up the hill past the buildings as he goes around | :29:14. | :29:21.
the corner. It puts that load onto the right-hand side of the car. And | :29:22. | :29:27.
now dropping down into the left-hander, quite late apex to get | :29:28. | :29:33.
the line correct. And to carry the momentum and get onto flat throttle | :29:34. | :29:38.
as soon as you can through the left-hander. You are doing about 205 | :29:39. | :29:49.
mph into turn 4. That was where Lewis Hamilton spun last year when | :29:50. | :29:51.
he was trying to chase down Nico Rosberg. He worked his tyres card | :29:52. | :30:02.
but on the second lap he overcooked them a bit. Rosberg went on to take | :30:03. | :30:06.
victory. Let's hope we have a great race between them this weekend again | :30:07. | :30:10.
because it looks like it will be between the Mercedes team-mates. | :30:11. | :30:16.
Rosberg just on the way at the moment. A quick first sector. He has | :30:17. | :30:23.
slowed down and will go again. He wants to get a maximum gap and | :30:24. | :30:28.
straighten off the final corner. This was Daniel Kvyat a moment ago. | :30:29. | :30:42.
What were we looking at? I think we will see quite a lot of out of | :30:43. | :30:48.
qualifying itself. We have seen a bit more of the president of the FIA | :30:49. | :30:51.
here at Grand Prix in the last couple of events. Bernie Ecclestone | :30:52. | :30:56.
tucked in behind him. It is good that he has been attending more. | :30:57. | :31:02.
There's a lot of discussion going on in Formula 1 at the moment. Both of | :31:03. | :31:06.
them are looking to bring in an independent engine supplier into | :31:07. | :31:10.
Formula 1 with a different specification of injured and I am | :31:11. | :31:18.
sure part of that... Also being * the tragic events that took place in | :31:19. | :31:24.
Paris. The FIA is based in Paris. I am sure he is being asked about that | :31:25. | :31:36.
either journalists. Quite often slightly opposite ends of the | :31:37. | :31:41.
spectrum in terms of what they are trying to achieve by both want this | :31:42. | :31:45.
independent engine to be part of Formula 1. Whether it is putting | :31:46. | :31:48.
pressure on the manufacturers to come up with cheaper versions of the | :31:49. | :31:52.
current engines is another question. It is a statement that there might | :31:53. | :31:57.
want the manufacturers to play ball so they have a wider competitive | :31:58. | :32:01.
level across the Lord. Rosberg has gone quicker. The Red Bull scenario | :32:02. | :32:07.
has brought all of this to a head wear a team like Red Bull could | :32:08. | :32:11.
maybe leave Formula 1 and that is not in the interests of anyone. | :32:12. | :32:16.
Rosberg has gone fastest. Do we have any mourners of what is going on? | :32:17. | :32:28.
Hamilton has gone back out -- update. They are saying it is a | :32:29. | :32:34.
sensor issue. I am at McLaren where if there was a reward for Pickard of | :32:35. | :32:47.
the year it would be these McLaren mechanics. They are swarming all | :32:48. | :32:53.
over Jenson Button's car. I am told there is nothing specifically wrong | :32:54. | :32:58.
but they are working a lot around the front brakes in particular. This | :32:59. | :33:05.
is bad news for Jenson. This is really harming his preparation for | :33:06. | :33:11.
qualifying. He was complaining about under Steve on the first lap of his | :33:12. | :33:16.
run and by lap three the rear had dropped off and he had oversteer | :33:17. | :33:20.
bonne entry predominantly due to traction. The juicy what they were | :33:21. | :33:25.
changing? There is nothing being changed on the back of the car. It | :33:26. | :33:30.
is on the front. It looks around the brake. Area. The team official says | :33:31. | :33:36.
they are doing lots of checks but it looks as if they are changing | :33:37. | :33:40.
something specific to the brake duct. It could be the brake. | :33:41. | :33:44.
Cooling. The energy that goes into it has an effect on tyre temperature | :33:45. | :33:52.
and balance. Hamilton is up and running and going to go quick here I | :33:53. | :33:57.
think. It is fastest. Immediately he goes about a 10th faster than his | :33:58. | :34:02.
team-mate team-mate is out at the same time. Rosberg has put in a | :34:03. | :34:07.
faster first sector so we might see a response immediately. Max | :34:08. | :34:13.
Verstappen studying information as he gets ready to come back out again | :34:14. | :34:19.
to continue to improve the car. Max Verstappen is in a strong fifth | :34:20. | :34:26.
place at the moment. We will see of Rosberg can get up to beat | :34:27. | :34:34.
Hamilton's time. Maldonado is in between the two Force Indias. | :34:35. | :34:38.
Rosberg appears that the top of the chart. On the medium compound tyre. | :34:39. | :34:45.
We think the soft tyres were just over a second. Nasr still has brake | :34:46. | :34:57.
problems. He is not quite happy. He is still going quite slowly. To | :34:58. | :35:01.
being out of the way of Grosjean. He has not had much luck here in the | :35:02. | :35:06.
past, Grosjean, he has never scored any points, neither has Maldonado. | :35:07. | :35:10.
Two experience drivers but it has never come together for them in | :35:11. | :35:17.
Brazil. Hamilton has won nearly everywhere except the circuit. | :35:18. | :35:21.
Remember how long it took Ayrton Senna to be victorious here. It | :35:22. | :35:26.
seems to favour certain drivers. Hulkenberg is someone that | :35:27. | :35:32.
historically has gone and delivered some pretty good results around this | :35:33. | :35:40.
track. The driver with the most win s around here is Michael Schumacher. | :35:41. | :35:46.
Vettel and Mark Webber as well. Felipe Massa has three pole | :35:47. | :35:50.
positions and two directories. Very close to winning the world title at | :35:51. | :35:58.
this venue. Massa did what Barry kill another managed. -- | :35:59. | :36:11.
Barichello. It is Bernie Ecclestone's turn to be grilled by | :36:12. | :36:15.
the journalists. The wind is picking up a little bit. It is blowing up | :36:16. | :36:19.
and down the start finish straight and it is definitely a little | :36:20. | :36:23.
stronger. Not particularly strong but definitely more of a breeze than | :36:24. | :36:28.
yesterday. Braking into one is tricky at the best of times. We have | :36:29. | :36:35.
only seen Daniel Kvyat with the big lock-up so far. We saw quite a lot | :36:36. | :36:39.
of people making mistakes and running wide but the circuit | :36:40. | :36:43.
generally isn't slightly better condition. Also with the track | :36:44. | :36:48.
temperature 45 degrees that is probably the switch on point for | :36:49. | :36:53.
these medium tyres. The tyres are working a bit better. Perez is in | :36:54. | :36:59.
the pits as work goes on around the back of his car, it looks like | :37:00. | :37:04.
fairly conventional set-up work, playing with brake temperatures and | :37:05. | :37:07.
tyre temperatures. Those carbon fibre units, they will adjust the | :37:08. | :37:14.
amount of air going through them to adjust the brake temperatures, and | :37:15. | :37:19.
it is such a crucial part of the eventual temperature of the wheel | :37:20. | :37:23.
rim and the tyre itself. Also the way that the air flows through, the | :37:24. | :37:27.
aerodynamics of the car coming from the front wing and flowing through | :37:28. | :37:32.
the floor. It is cooling its temperatures for tyres, it is | :37:33. | :37:39.
braking its aero. It is a very complex system what happens with the | :37:40. | :37:45.
hot here. Max Verstappen, once again he is pushing on. I would think this | :37:46. | :37:52.
circuit is going to suit him. He was brilliant at karting. That is where | :37:53. | :37:55.
a lot of his success has been in the past. I have just had a surge. A | :37:56. | :38:06.
surge from the turbo when he up shifted to eat gear. That was | :38:07. | :38:19.
Vettel. Vettel giving decent feedback to Ferrari, as expected. | :38:20. | :38:23.
Let us see what this lap time is like for a Verstappen. He stays | :38:24. | :38:30.
fit. No improvement in lap time. The best has definitely gone from that | :38:31. | :38:37.
tyre. It looked as if it were starting to have worked quite a | :38:38. | :38:40.
little bit. The first person to go on to the first tyre is Daniel | :38:41. | :38:45.
Kvyat. We will keep an eye on him and see what lap time he can | :38:46. | :38:50.
achieve. Vettel improves his lap times likely but he is still three | :38:51. | :38:56.
tenths down on Hamilton and six tenths down on Rosberg. Still a | :38:57. | :39:00.
performance difference between Mercedes and Ferrari. Chris asks, | :39:01. | :39:07.
when does a slipstream become dirty air and vice versa? I guess it | :39:08. | :39:12.
depends if it is a straight or corner? It also depends what car you | :39:13. | :39:17.
are following because some cars have dirtier air behind which can have a | :39:18. | :39:21.
bigger effect and sometimes it affects the front and sometimes the | :39:22. | :39:26.
rear depending on where you are. Certainly a slipstream down the | :39:27. | :39:30.
street helps you approach the next corner to perhaps be able to open a | :39:31. | :39:40.
club that a. Dirty Atmos -- air. Even though you are turning. You can | :39:41. | :39:48.
still use the slipstream. If you have to lift that is when you lose. | :39:49. | :39:53.
We have 25 minutes to go in this final practice session from | :39:54. | :40:08.
Interlagos in Brazil. Hamilton has the fastest first sector of anybody. | :40:09. | :40:13.
He has not changed tyre. He is still on a 7 lap used medium tyre. It is a | :40:14. | :40:20.
quick lap coming up by Hamilton. Daniel Ricciardo was on circuit at | :40:21. | :40:24.
the moment. He will have a ten place grid penalty because of the | :40:25. | :40:28.
engineers using this weekend, a revised tarmac in June, so they are | :40:29. | :40:33.
looking for more performance from that. Hamilton was on a quick lap | :40:34. | :40:39.
but he has gone off. It looks as if it is when you come down towards the | :40:40. | :40:44.
end of the lap, in the last sector. He is well and truly off the | :40:45. | :40:49.
circuit. It is the crossover between Sector 2 and Sector 3. You can lose | :40:50. | :40:57.
because it is a traction corner proceeding that I do have to change | :40:58. | :41:01.
direction so you can lose the stability of the rear. I have seen | :41:02. | :41:05.
quite a few people get on oversteer moment as they go from one direction | :41:06. | :41:09.
to the other and the circuit drops down and away from you. He is not | :41:10. | :41:14.
having the perfect day so far. He managed a few laps together and went | :41:15. | :41:19.
fastest. That has been beaten by Rosberg. Let us see if we can pick | :41:20. | :41:24.
it up. It was quite early in the corner he lost the car. Just as he | :41:25. | :41:30.
got towards the apex. This is where you heat up the rear tyres quite a | :41:31. | :41:35.
lot. It was just as he turned down. Unusual to see the back-end braking | :41:36. | :41:40.
away. That does not happen very often to Hamilton that he cannot | :41:41. | :41:45.
save it. Especially in this year's Mercedes. He was trying to get a | :41:46. | :41:49.
gear so there may have been some influencing factor as well. Jenson | :41:50. | :41:55.
Button on track as well. Nobody has done a time on the soft tyre yet. | :41:56. | :42:01.
Button is still on the medium compound. The man who won here in | :42:02. | :42:09.
2012 gets to grips with this McLaren Honda. That was the last victory for | :42:10. | :42:16.
McLaren. It is too long. Let us hope that Honda come up with the goods | :42:17. | :42:19.
and McLaren can match that next year and bridges a race winning car. | :42:20. | :42:23.
Someone asked when we think the hybrid engines will be as fast if | :42:24. | :42:29.
not faster when pre-hybrid. They are, the engines themselves are much | :42:30. | :42:36.
more powerful than the V8s of the previous era. I suppose you're | :42:37. | :42:39.
talking about overall lap time and here there is a chance they could be | :42:40. | :42:44.
faster than that previous era and it will not be long before they are on | :42:45. | :42:49.
the pace. The engines are definitely stronger. Joining us from the pit | :42:50. | :42:54.
wall is Christian Horner team principal of Red Bull. You have had | :42:55. | :42:59.
the chance to analyse Daniel Ricciardo's engine. What have you | :43:00. | :43:03.
learned? A lot of data has been looked at. We have decided to stick | :43:04. | :43:08.
with that engine for the rest of the weekend. It is a very modest | :43:09. | :43:18.
upgrade. It is difficult to verify how much of an improvement it | :43:19. | :43:22.
actually is. Presumably Daniel Kvyat will stick with the older engine? | :43:23. | :43:29.
Absolutely. Danny is about to go out on the soft tyre. Talk us through | :43:30. | :43:32.
the analysis of the tyres from yesterday. Last year the soft tyre | :43:33. | :43:39.
was foldable. Yesterday looked as though you were getting more laps | :43:40. | :43:44.
out of it. Absolutely. Daniel Ricciardo has done a lot more on the | :43:45. | :43:48.
harder tyre today. Very consistently so. With his penalty he is focused | :43:49. | :43:54.
more on the race because he has to take that ten place penalty wherever | :43:55. | :43:59.
he qualifies. Daniel Kvyat had a big lock-up on his first run which | :44:00. | :44:04.
effectively destroyed that set. That is why he has gone out earlier than | :44:05. | :44:09.
planned on the softer of the two compounds. Based on what you have | :44:10. | :44:14.
seen so far, two stopped or three strop? On the cusp of two. | :44:15. | :44:23.
Overtaking is not impossible. Some may try to brave it out on the two | :44:24. | :44:28.
stop. One thing I noticed from the long runs that Daniel Kvyat did | :44:29. | :44:31.
yesterday between the soft and the medium he was able to equal his | :44:32. | :44:36.
average lap time over about ten laps with the medium. It seems as if you | :44:37. | :44:40.
are making that tyre work may be better than the soft. Is that fair? | :44:41. | :44:46.
I think so. We are relatively gentle on the tyres. Nothing escapes your | :44:47. | :44:58.
eagle eye. It is a good observation. On the kerbs, have they been | :44:59. | :45:04.
reporting much? It seems to be affecting the lap time? They are | :45:05. | :45:08.
being more tentative with the kerbs, particularly with turn ten. | :45:09. | :45:15.
We have had a couple of spins. Nothing too Major. You are doing a | :45:16. | :45:20.
little bit of work around the front brake. On Daniel Ricciardo's car. | :45:21. | :45:22.
Why? Just trying to make sure there is | :45:23. | :45:32.
enough cooling in the breaks, just fine-tuning and getting everything | :45:33. | :45:36.
as comfortable as possible. You work fourth and fifth last time out in | :45:37. | :45:43.
Mexico. What can we expect today? I think Mercedes will be on the front | :45:44. | :45:49.
row, Ferrari and Williams, when they turn it up in qualy it will be | :45:50. | :45:54.
difficult to get on terms with them. We are probably looking, if we | :45:55. | :46:01.
can sneak third row, that would be great but more likely fourth row. | :46:02. | :46:06.
Thank you for joining us and best of luck. Christian Horner, team | :46:07. | :46:12.
principal of Red Bull making preparations towards qualifying. | :46:13. | :46:17.
This is Fernando Alonso who missed out on a number of laps yesterday | :46:18. | :46:21.
with a power unit failure, spinning on his own oil. He is getting some | :46:22. | :46:27.
more laps on this occasion, just a bit quicker than Jenson Button. | :46:28. | :46:32.
Alonso has done 12 laps, some have done up to 14. Bottas has completed | :46:33. | :46:41.
18. It is a shorter lap at 2.6 miles or 4.3 kilometres so they get | :46:42. | :46:45.
through a few more laps than at other circuits will stop that was a | :46:46. | :46:52.
big attraction limited slide. That will be a factor tomorrow with the | :46:53. | :46:57.
cooler track temperatures yesterday, it wasn't really an | :46:58. | :47:00.
issue, we did not see the drop-off from the tyres that we had last year | :47:01. | :47:06.
but with the temperatures increasing, you are seeing a bit | :47:07. | :47:10.
more where and some training on some of the cars. That might lean towards | :47:11. | :47:18.
a three-stop race if it continues like this. Daniil Kvyat has gone | :47:19. | :47:25.
third on that set of soft tyres. But it is not as big a jump as he might | :47:26. | :47:35.
have liked. He has been talking over the radio and he is still struggling | :47:36. | :47:42.
for grip in the final sector. That is where he is now. Out of the | :47:43. | :47:49.
hairpin and the flat out left-hander into 11 and the final reel corner as | :47:50. | :47:52.
they accelerate onto the long uphill drag. Trying to get a second lap out | :47:53. | :48:01.
these tyres. His middle sector was not great. A fraction faster, | :48:02. | :48:09.
doesn't change his position. I am surprised the tyres held up for a | :48:10. | :48:14.
second reasonably good lap and temperatures of 46 degrees. It | :48:15. | :48:19.
suggests he did not get the first sector right on the first lap. | :48:20. | :48:24.
Rosberg and Hamilton were able to improve on that next lap on the | :48:25. | :48:29.
first sector but in the middle sector, with all the corners, the | :48:30. | :48:35.
tyre did not have the grip. When he maximises the build-up of the | :48:36. | :48:39.
temperature for the first lap, he will be able to exploit it a bit | :48:40. | :48:44.
more. The fans are certainly enjoying themselves. Just 16 minutes | :48:45. | :48:54.
left in this final practice. One person says, shame to here Kristian | :48:55. | :49:03.
Herman -- Christian Horner saying overtaking is not always possible, | :49:04. | :49:07.
and it should be possible everywhere. It does depend on the | :49:08. | :49:11.
layout but generally it is good to hear. That race that springs to mind | :49:12. | :49:18.
when Sebastian Vettel won the World championship having dropped to the | :49:19. | :49:27.
tail of the field. It is a circuit that has given some fantastic | :49:28. | :49:32.
overtaking, I remember Juan Pablo on the diving down the inside of | :49:33. | :49:36.
Michael Schumacher into the first corner -- Juan Pablo Montoya. It is | :49:37. | :49:43.
reasonably wide as well and you can get away with going into a corner a | :49:44. | :49:50.
bit too fast. I think it is something that from the Red Bull | :49:51. | :49:54.
point of view is very much triggered by their straight-line speed, | :49:55. | :49:59.
whether they have enough to stay in the toe at the beginning and then | :50:00. | :50:03.
use DRS to overtake. It looks like it will stay dry for qualifying but | :50:04. | :50:09.
there might be thunderstorms later this afternoon and the weather can | :50:10. | :50:16.
change quite rapidly here. On Sunday, a similar story, a bit more | :50:17. | :50:22.
cloud, it will be cooler. The rain might come in after the race but | :50:23. | :50:26.
every chance of a shower before that. 2012 was the last rain | :50:27. | :50:32.
affected race. We have had other sessions with rain at 2012 was the | :50:33. | :50:37.
last time in the race and that was the last time we had a safety car | :50:38. | :50:43.
around this track. It has a fairly high level of probability for safety | :50:44. | :50:48.
car. There are a couple of places where if a car stops, a safety car | :50:49. | :50:54.
would be required to move it out of the way. Coming back out on the soft | :50:55. | :51:02.
tyre is Daniel Ricciardo. This will be his qualifying simulation, | :51:03. | :51:04.
everybody else is leaving it quite late before putting on the soft | :51:05. | :51:11.
tyres. You only get two laps. Maximum. With it being a short | :51:12. | :51:19.
circuit, the bigger factor is not necessarily how close to the end of | :51:20. | :51:22.
the session, it is whether you go out in a group and you might have | :51:23. | :51:27.
traffic. Not for Ricciardo because he is the only person on the circuit | :51:28. | :51:34.
at the moment! It would be just his luck if he came round the last | :51:35. | :51:39.
corner and there is a stream of cars coming onto the circuit. The track | :51:40. | :51:44.
temperature is now 47, we might get up to 50 for qualifying. He builds | :51:45. | :51:51.
up for the lap and this is really where his next lap begins. You try | :51:52. | :52:00.
to square off the final corner and go a bit slower into the corner to | :52:01. | :52:05.
maximise your speed out and carry it all the way to the start of the lap | :52:06. | :52:11.
and into Turn 1. He stayed in third gear, a nice clean run. Kisses the | :52:12. | :52:17.
kerb on the right. That allows him to come through towards turn for. | :52:18. | :52:29.
And he was flat through there. In fourth gear, down to the bottom of | :52:30. | :52:33.
the track. Very nice because the kerb rolls away from you. It is easy | :52:34. | :52:39.
to lose a bit of time. Now through one of the best corners on the | :52:40. | :52:46.
circuit, very quick, you can cut -- can't cut it any more. It is all | :52:47. | :52:52.
about balance. A very technical section. Ricciardo desperate not to | :52:53. | :52:59.
waste time. This is where Hamilton went off earlier. A bit of Opus Dei | :53:00. | :53:05.
on the entry but kept in it. Too much understeer there, did not at | :53:06. | :53:10.
the apex and he has lost a bit of time and momentum up the hill. Let's | :53:11. | :53:18.
see what it is like. This will be quicker than earlier on the soft | :53:19. | :53:25.
tyre, second fastest, 1:13.5. Still not faster than Mercedes have done | :53:26. | :53:29.
on the harder tyre so it goes to show that even with a bit more of a | :53:30. | :53:35.
second from the soft tyre, he still can't go faster than the Mercedes. | :53:36. | :53:39.
Evidence that Mercedes are in great shape. The Sauber on track is Felipe | :53:40. | :53:49.
Nasr on the soft tyre. He is going for a qualifying simulation and he | :53:50. | :53:53.
also has a pretty clear lap. A few Moore cars on track, six, that he is | :53:54. | :54:02.
clear coming down into Turn 1. Just a hint of lock-up which is enough to | :54:03. | :54:07.
make him miss the apex. And a big slide in Turn 3. He was trying to | :54:08. | :54:14.
take it flat out but it is not as easy this year as previously. This | :54:15. | :54:20.
will not be a great first sector. Not even his best of the session. | :54:21. | :54:24.
And he was on the harder tyre earlier. A few mistakes through the | :54:25. | :54:32.
Senate as. He will try to get it back -- Senna S. It is not going to | :54:33. | :54:44.
be the lap he wanted. This is quite an important lap for Felipe Nasr and | :54:45. | :54:51.
everybody in that mid-grid area. Because the circuit is so short, the | :54:52. | :54:56.
distance between positions is small, especially for them because | :54:57. | :55:01.
they could get something out of the weekend. They have been performing | :55:02. | :55:07.
better, 14th at the moment for Nasr but this lap will not be one of his | :55:08. | :55:12.
best. It will move him up, but to seventh place with a load of cars | :55:13. | :55:19.
yet to put the soft tyre on. Sauber have a pretty good record here. | :55:20. | :55:23.
Hamilton is on track on the soft tyre will stop this was the mistake. | :55:24. | :55:28.
A lot of drivers yesterday did that. It is just when they are starting to | :55:29. | :55:37.
up the shift and there is a lot of torque through the rear wheels. | :55:38. | :55:45.
Later on he had the big snap and he lost the time. This is the second | :55:46. | :55:56.
lap on it. Hamilton has just taken six tenths out of everybody in the | :55:57. | :56:00.
middle sector. He is on for a storming lap as Ricciardo comes | :56:01. | :56:04.
through. Hamilton is fastest onto 1:12.0. Some way off what we saw | :56:05. | :56:11.
last year but the fastest lap of the weekend so far. Hulkenberg is coming | :56:12. | :56:19.
up the hill. 11th at the moment. This will jump him up the order to | :56:20. | :56:27.
third. He gained 1.3 seconds but probably on a little less fuel than | :56:28. | :56:37.
earlier. Yesterday about one second was the difference between the | :56:38. | :56:42.
medium and the soft. Hamilton might not have got the best out of the | :56:43. | :56:49.
medium tyre but 1:12.0... Rosberg will have to do a good lap to get on | :56:50. | :56:54.
terms. Looking at the speeds across the start finish line, it is Massa, | :56:55. | :57:00.
Raikkonen, Grosjean and then Kvyat and Hamilton. It gives you an idea | :57:01. | :57:06.
that the Mercedes is running plenty of downforce. Nico Rosberg is about | :57:07. | :57:14.
to start his lap. He is on those soft tyres so we will know the | :57:15. | :57:18.
difference between Hamilton and Rosberg soon. Verstappen kept it | :57:19. | :57:28.
need through Turn 3. Plunging downhill for a moment and levelling | :57:29. | :57:31.
off and beginning to climb back up the hill again. Into Ferradura, this | :57:32. | :57:40.
wonderful corner. Tightening up, this is where his karting pedigree | :57:41. | :57:51.
comes in. Turn ten, it is easy to lock-up and inside wheel. You tend | :57:52. | :57:56.
to turn the wheel straighter than you would like. He was held up on | :57:57. | :58:05.
this lap. Rosberg has set the fastest first sector, quicker than | :58:06. | :58:12.
Hamilton. Let's watch Max Verstappen up the hill to complete his lap. He | :58:13. | :58:19.
goes into fifth place for the moment. Perez following but we are | :58:20. | :58:26.
keeping an eye on Rosberg. Laws though -- Alonso jumps up to | :58:27. | :58:33.
seventh. That is pretty good. Rosberg, he missed out. Where did he | :58:34. | :58:39.
lose that time? He was one tenth of Hamilton in the second and third | :58:40. | :58:44.
sector. That is where the time went. Somebody locked up ahead of | :58:45. | :58:52.
Carlos Sainz but he has gone eight. Not as quick as Verstappen but less | :58:53. | :58:59.
track experience. Maldonado has been exciting to watch as ever, a bit of | :59:00. | :59:03.
a lock-up going gone. He was a bit off Grosjean yesterday and the team | :59:04. | :59:08.
were hoping he could find some pace this morning. Lotus has not looked | :59:09. | :59:14.
that stable when you are on board with Maldonado and also Romain | :59:15. | :59:19.
Grosjean, they were always fighting with the steering wheel. The car | :59:20. | :59:22.
looks to have gripped but when it loses it, it is quite reactive and | :59:23. | :59:28.
difficult to drive. A perfect place to pick up a total and he goes into | :59:29. | :59:41.
fifth. -- a tow. A very good answer to the question we had earlier about | :59:42. | :59:46.
the effect of the slipstream. Very beneficial for Maldonado. Whether he | :59:47. | :59:52.
can do that in qualifying is another matter. Just over five minutes left | :59:53. | :59:58.
in final practice. Felipe Massa is 10th but that is not really where | :59:59. | :00:01.
you would expect the Williams. Sebastian Vettel is third but a big | :00:02. | :00:07.
gap between him and Mercedes, nearly seven tenths off the top. Bottas | :00:08. | :00:14.
goes fifth, more promising Fon Williams but a big gap again to | :00:15. | :00:17.
Mercedes and he is right in there with Hulkenberg in the Force India | :00:18. | :00:22.
who loves this track and that is a pretty outstanding lap but just a | :00:23. | :00:26.
couple of tenths quicker than Perez so Williams might have their hands | :00:27. | :00:27.
full with Force India. Verstappen has been pushed down to | :00:28. | :00:37.
ten with all these improvements around him. Felipe Massa is having a | :00:38. | :00:44.
bit of a tough weekend so far. But it has improved slightly but he is | :00:45. | :00:48.
only in the 18th so that is not great. He will be disappointed with | :00:49. | :00:54.
that. He has the Saubers head of him. That is the guys that are | :00:55. | :00:58.
usually fighting to get out of qualifying one. That was a good lap. | :00:59. | :01:06.
He has obviously phoned some pounds. Verstappen. Fully be Massa is | :01:07. | :01:17.
building up for another lap again. Thirsty. I do not think it is | :01:18. | :01:24.
because he is thirsty. It is because of the driver weight. He might be on | :01:25. | :01:28.
the limit of being the correct driver weight that are measured out | :01:29. | :01:33.
at the sessions so he will be drinking quite a lot. I wonder if | :01:34. | :01:37.
Maldonado is going to be able to find any more pace. It does not look | :01:38. | :01:42.
like it. His first sector is not as quick as it was. You could see it | :01:43. | :01:49.
sliding around more. Struggling to get the power down. That is what | :01:50. | :01:54.
goes away, the ability to get the traction off the corners. | :01:55. | :02:00.
Maldonado's lap not as quick. A lot of front locking. Grosjean is ahead | :02:01. | :02:14.
of Maldonado, but only just. Vettel has done a better sector than his | :02:15. | :02:19.
previous best. Is there any chance? Ferrari has been looking good on its | :02:20. | :02:24.
soft tyres. He did a good long stint on them yesterday. The second sector | :02:25. | :02:29.
is not better than he had previously done. I do not think it is going to | :02:30. | :02:34.
be better. It does not look like it. The middle sector is very tough | :02:35. | :02:38.
because it puts so much energy into the tyre and the performance | :02:39. | :02:43.
drop-off is quite high. Vettel, it is not quicker than before. It | :02:44. | :02:51.
proves that they are able. Jenson Button has so much under steel at | :02:52. | :02:54.
the moment. He has been cleaning about understeer at the beginning of | :02:55. | :03:01.
runs. He seems to struggle with the front. Remind us how you can see | :03:02. | :03:07.
that in the car. The steering lock, when he turns the steering, quickly | :03:08. | :03:13.
it goes towards the apex. When you are at 90 degrees you tend to have | :03:14. | :03:18.
too much understeer which means you cannot maintain the car in all of | :03:19. | :03:22.
the slow corners. That means you are later going on to the throttle which | :03:23. | :03:27.
means you put more Lord onto the tyre and you overheat the rear tyre | :03:28. | :03:31.
and your traction gets worst. Ever decreasing circles that lay. It | :03:32. | :03:38.
looks as though most people have done their flying lap and their | :03:39. | :03:43.
qualifying simulation. If this was qualifying we would have lost both | :03:44. | :03:50.
Saubers, Jenson Button and both of the Marussias from the first part of | :03:51. | :03:54.
qualifying. It does not always work like that. Things can change. | :03:55. | :04:00.
Stevens is a little bit quicker than Rossi although Rossi has done a | :04:01. | :04:05.
better lap. Stevens is doing well because Rossi has at least given the | :04:06. | :04:09.
circuit in the past. Stevens has been a little bit quicker. Maldonado | :04:10. | :04:15.
has been out wide somewhere. We saw that from one of our other angles. | :04:16. | :04:19.
No damage done. He has gone back on track. Sainz is in 50s by all of | :04:20. | :04:26.
those improvements around him. Massa is back into the pits. It looks as | :04:27. | :04:30.
though Sauber going to struggle to get out of Q1. We hope they can | :04:31. | :04:39.
fight for it at least got a few cars going out onto circuit with a few | :04:40. | :04:42.
seconds to go, purely to do a practised art at the end of the pit | :04:43. | :04:49.
lane. Bottas in the Williams. Fifth in the standings at the moment. | :04:50. | :04:54.
Williams with that podium finish for Bottas last time out in Mexico. A | :04:55. | :04:59.
good reading of the strategy. Are they going to be able to get on the | :05:00. | :05:04.
podium again? A tough race last year, but Max, the seat belt strap | :05:05. | :05:09.
was loose, which is very unusual. He had a long pit stop as they tried to | :05:10. | :05:16.
cure that. They seem to have a set of tyres that did not come in at all | :05:17. | :05:20.
and he ended up finishing intense as his team-mate ended up in third with | :05:21. | :05:25.
the other Williams. It was the day of mixed fortunes for the team here | :05:26. | :05:30.
last year. Across the line, chequered flag, end of session, but | :05:31. | :05:35.
the actual complete this in fifth. One of the drivers doing a practised | :05:36. | :05:40.
art was this man, Raikkonen. Another one was was Rosberg. He complained | :05:41. | :05:49.
about torque delivery. That is something he was talking about | :05:50. | :05:54.
yesterday. They do not seem to have got the consistency in their starts | :05:55. | :05:58.
they would like. Hamilton had problems earlier in the season and | :05:59. | :06:03.
Rosberg on a couple of occasions. Yesterday Rosberg was complaining | :06:04. | :06:07.
about that. They do not have any problems in terms of pace, the | :06:08. | :06:11.
quarters of a second faster than in a buddy is here today and surely | :06:12. | :06:18.
pole position. A big oversteer connection but he managed to get it | :06:19. | :06:23.
sorted and back on the track. A big advantage for Mercedes. It looks as | :06:24. | :06:26.
though is going to be a fight between the two of them. Hamilton | :06:27. | :06:31.
trying to break the sequence that Rosberg is on of scoring pole | :06:32. | :06:40.
positions at the last four events. Vettel is for fast this. They have | :06:41. | :06:48.
to focus on race pace and see if there is some way to get more out of | :06:49. | :06:52.
the long stints on the tyres to give them an advantage. If it is between | :06:53. | :06:57.
the two strop and the Maxtor, perhaps they at -- Ferrari will go | :06:58. | :07:10.
for two. Vettel was bowed fastest. -- third. Not necessarily a good | :07:11. | :07:27.
track for Toro Rosso, but that was a good lap for Verstappen which put | :07:28. | :07:31.
him ahead of Daniel Ricciardo and Daniel Kvyat, both of the Red Bulls | :07:32. | :07:36.
outside of the top ten, which shows you how important the power unit is | :07:37. | :07:45.
at Interlagos. Alonso, a good lap from him. The two Spaniards | :07:46. | :07:53.
together. Jenson Button struggling with understeer. There is no doubt | :07:54. | :08:04.
that Mercedes are a step ahead of everybody else. Hamilton and Rosberg | :08:05. | :08:10.
separated by less than a 10th of a second. It promises to be a very | :08:11. | :08:14.
intriguing battle to see which of them will take proposition in a few | :08:15. | :08:18.
hours. An interesting session for Hamilton. | :08:19. | :08:24.
Not easy. Gear box problems and a spin but showing great speed and he | :08:25. | :08:28.
topped the time sheets. The temperature is continuing to rise. | :08:29. | :08:35.
The cloud is building. There is some talk of thunderstorms this | :08:36. | :08:38.
afternoon. If you have ever watched Formula 1 at Interlagos before you | :08:39. | :08:41.
will know how quickly things can change and that is one of the many | :08:42. | :08:45.
things that makes it exciting round here. We have qualifying live for | :08:46. | :08:54.
you. We will have Sebastian Vettel giving his thoughts on the season. | :08:55. | :08:58.
Thank you for your company. Goodbye. | :08:59. | :09:04. |
