Highlights - Abu Dhabi Formula 1

I don't think anybody thought he was doing the right thing to go to

Mercedes. He is a very aggressive, very quick

dive. The most exceptional, the most unbeatable. When it mattered he just

won the race. World champion! Oh my God!

Why did he win it? He was more consistent. Qualifying he did a

better job. That makes such a big difference in the battle.

Lewis is a very quick driver, I will give him that, probably one of the

quickest guys to ever step in a Formula 1 car. Three World

Championships, you are in a very small group of individuals.

Definitely one of the greats. Three world titles for Lewis

Hamilton, well, to Abu Dhabi. This is the 19th and final race of what

has been a long and exciting season. We know Lewis is champion but let's

take a look at how the championship works. The fight for fourth is

fascinating, just one point between the pair of Valtteri Bottas and Kimi

Raikkonen. Force India bag theft in Brazil, a

well-deserved achievement. -- bagged fifth. 2015 was dominated by the

powerhouse that is Mercedes. In a minute all the race action but first

of all here is the story of qualifying.

Fernando Alonso looked like he was certain to make it to qualifying two

but he got a puncture at the chequered flag and was pushed out by

his team-mate Jenson Button. Jenson Button had his best session of the

season, qualifying 12. Ferrari missed time the run of Sebastian

Vettel which meant he didn't have time to do his quick lap and had to

set. But Ferrari have been quick all weekend as has Kimi Raikkonen who

was good enough for third. Sergio Perez had looked like third be his.

He sat behind the Mercedes for much of qualifying three, he still starts

fourth, equalling his best qualifying of 2015. The Mercedes

drivers traded places throughout qualifying, Lewis looked like he

would get his first pole position since the Italian Grand Prix but

Nico Rosberg put in an incredible last lap to take pole position by

three tenths of a second. It was exciting, it felt awesome and I have

not often managed a lap like that so I was happy, because normally on

Saturday, you don't score points, it doesn't count for anything. But

today was good. It's not been the best run of qualifying but still

three wins, I will be working as hard as I can to improve the

Carrboro next year. Mercedes have 15 front overall lock-outs this season,

the most in history. COMMENTATOR: The last few car is in

place and the last race of 2015 is about to get underway in Abu Dhabi.

Lights out and away we go. A great start by Rosberg, Hamilton really

slow and under pressure per second place, Rosberg through and Kimi

Raikkonen challenging Hamilton. We have yellow flagstone in that area

of the grid but a brilliant get away by Nico Rosberg. Kimi Raikkonen

third, Sergio Perez fourth. Daniil Kvyat making up space. Brilliant

pass from Carlos Sainz. This is going to be tied all the way

down to the chicane. Lewis Hamilton in second place, chasing agarose

burger. Look at them fanning out. Valtteri Bottas trying to get

involved. Jenson Button trying to get involved as well. On board with

Felipe Massa. Great midfield action. Yes, Felipe Massa intent I believe.

-- in tent. -- 10th. He has cut the corner so will have

to give the place back which he does reluctantly. That will allow for

Perry Bott asked to get past him. Sebastian Vettel right behind him

already. Was that Sebastian Vettel right behind him

lock-up? Just managed to get away with it and Sebastian Vettel trying

to fight his way through. What a dramatic first lap we are enjoying,

Sebastian Vettel trying to make up as much ground as he possibly can.

Almost contact with Max Verstappen. You can see how nervous the drivers

are, this is not how they are at the beginning of the season, this is the

final bit of fun before the end of the season. A lot of weaving around.

Sebastian Vettel up to 12 already. Good effort. Nico Hulkenberg has

gone well in the first lap. This is Fernando Alonso into the pits.

Puncture on the front right which is why it is so dead got to get the car

up in the air to get the wheel off. -- why it is so difficult. No points

for the waters of Maldonado today -- the Lotus. Valtteri Bottas in the

Williams tucked right in behind Daniil Kvyat in the Red Bull. It

would be interesting to get a replay of the first corner incident, it

looked like Fernando Alonso speared into the Lotus. The Williams

easily, easily coming around the outside then giving up in the

braking zone, I think that is an indication, the Williams has not

been as strong around this track. Very noticeable how early he was on

the brakes. Big speed advantage but not able to convert it into the

corners. The corners is where they have been struggling. Rosberg still

ahead of Hamilton. The gap 1.6 seconds as they went over the line.

Hamilton is holding in the. -- in there. The Brazilian has a go of

getting past the Spaniard, just. He compromised his exit which allows

the Toro Rosso to get better drive initially. Let's look at the drag

strip, Williams, with Mercedes power, able to outperform the Toro

Rosso. He has overshot the corner and Daniil Kvyat got straight back

at him, so close, Daniil Kvyat just snatches it back. Almost losing the

flap as he cut back across the front of the Williams. This is a feisty

battle between Daniil Kvyat and Valtteri Bottas, and Daniil Kvyat

will not give up on ninth place at this early stage in the race if he

can possibly avoid it. Sebastian Vettel has got a bit stuck in 12.

The Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel in the group and Jenson Button hanging

on in there at the moment, better than I expected, 13th place. They

don't have the straight line speed. But the actual chassis when you look

at the sound analysis is around the third best out there. Based on what

we saw a few races ago and I am sure they have made further improvements.

But I don't think there is much wrong with the car. Ron Dennis when

he was interviewed admitted it was not the best car based on the

analysis they had but they just need more horsepower and then we will see

a lot more of Jenson Button towards the front. Let's take another look

at the start. Nico Rosberg aced the start. It looked to me that

Sebastian -- Fernando Alonso bounced off the Sauber. It is Ashley Felipe

Nasr -- actually Felipe Massa that he bounced off of. -- Felipe Nasr.

His rear wheel gets caught by the Sauber and that unleashes him, so

that is the sixth time Pastor Maldonado has been out in the first

lap of a Grand Prix this season but are completely innocent victim this

time. Keeping it nice and tidy. The fantastic view as they build the

speed. Valtteri Bottas baling out of it and as he lifts it around is the

Toro Rosso to go outside the both of them, is that Max Verstappen? Carlos

Sainz around the outside, an amazing start! We have been talking so much

about Max Verstappen but Carlos Sainz, three cars in the space of

two corners, fantastic. Sebastian Vettel knows he has to keep it

clean, keeps away from the incident. Only just! Absolutely, I

think it was more luck than good judgment. Daniil Kvyat, costing them

initially, but with the Toro Rosso on the wide line, he tries to sneak

up the inside again. Gets pushed wide. He didn't give me any space!

Well, when you have car sliding in front of you they have the choice of

staying on a racing line. If that was Monte Carlo, remember we saw

some footage of Max Verstappen Evan Pastor Maldonado space. -- giving.

It's an early stop, Daniil Kvyat, we wondered who would be the first to

go. A lot of teams. They would start early to try and get an advantage by

switching on to the new tyres. Daniil Kvyat has gone for it first.

Fantastic 2.6 stop. They can deliver a 1.9 second stops but that is still

blind and you miss it. -- blink and you miss it. There is the leader,

Nico Rosberg by 1.7 seconds over Lewis Hamilton in second. Kimi

Raikkonen staying in touch at the moment. We go on board with Daniel

Ricciardo who is close to Nico Hulkenberg. He has taken the place,

brilliant move. Using PRS down the street, being sucked along by the

Mercedes powered force in the. Hulkenberg has more straight-line

speed. But Ricciardo holds on. Brilliant, perfect display of the

difference, anyone who thinks that Red Bull are playing it safe, a

penalty for Alonso, I think he was tagged before he took out Maldonado.

I perfectly accept that Maldonado was the innocent victim but if we

see it again, there was contact between him and the Sauber of Nasa

macro. Has Sebastian Vettel made a move on bust up? Late move from Max

but Vettel taken me position. Now into 11. More pit stops, Perez,

Ricciardo and Felipe Massa, we into 11. More pit stops, Perez,

about to see. Really quite early stops. Still should be a two stop

race for these guys but they have gone for the early stop, slight

delay for Felipe Massa. Trying to pull out the front Jack before the

car had gone down fully. It is early but the undercut is incredible

powerful. Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg in and Rosberg has just

set the new fastest lap. Where will this bring Carlos Sainz back out?

Hulkenberg already on his way. Oh, has he stalled? No, the rear jack

man still had the wheels off the ground. Confusion. 6.2 seconds, that

will hurt Carlos Sainz which is a shame because he put together a

brilliant weekend so far. We have handed out the trophy for the start

of the year but not in the classic sense down to the first corner but

from turn two to Turn 5, incredible start from Carlos Sainz. Hulkenberg

has come out ahead of Felipe Massa, that was mighty close, one Force

India just getting the car out ahead of the Williams which was crucial

for them. Meanwhile Perez is cutting a swathe through year, going past

Ericsson for position because Ericsson has not been in the pits

yet. Felipe Massa tucked behind Hulkenberg and Daniel V at behind

them. A bit out of sequence now because only some cars have stopped

and the two leaders have definitely stayed out there. Valtteri Bottas

heading for the pits. They will put super soft on late in the race when

they are more durable and the car is lighter. He's taken a front wing,

crashed in to Jenson Button, I think it was! TASS' race is effectively

over in terms of getting a great result. What a shame! Is there any

damage to Jenson Button's car? They have procedures in place. The front

Jack Mann should be watching to see if you can release the car and they

have a mark on the pit wall to indicate what would be a safe point

to release the car. Claire Williams mentioned her frustration this

season when some of the procedures had not quite worked for Williams.

They cannot be considered the underdog because they are a World

Championship winning team and they want to win grands prix but that

looked like a procedural error. He gets released and the point at

which... I'm surprised he did not see Jenson but maybe he did not know

the McLaren box was the next one up. That looks like more the

responsibility of Williams than McLaren, who are allowed to come in

and Button is allowed to go in his box and it is the duty of the car

being released to wait. We can see Jenson getting the signal from his

team, coming across and Bottas, well, it is going to be a long

afternoon. Such a shame, so effectively fourth-place in the

jumping ship decided if I can finish the race. If he cannot, that would

change things and their response and is, the chief technical officer at

Williams and he will not be at all impressed by that. -- and there is

Pat Symonds. That situation is under investigation by the stewards but no

double podium this year, that is the show. Into the pits again comes

Valtteri Bottas. -- that is for sure. A new front wing is prepared.

Let's listen to Raikkonen. RADIO: Can we box this lap? Kimi Raikkonen

will come into the pits this lap and a clean exit for Bottas. Raikkonen

has stayed in touch with the leaders, four seconds behind

Hamilton at this point. Race leader Nico Rosberg is the first of the

Mercedes to make the pit stop which is standard procedure, the first of

the two always gets the choice of pit stop and it is another great pit

stop by them, 2.6 seconds. It looks so much quicker than it is, we get

used to them doing two seconds flat. Ferrari, fantastic stop as well and

Raikkonen back on his way. We expect Vettel coming in any time soon.

Hulkenberg is breathing all over Ericsson and then Felipe Massa

tucked in behind and Daniel V at had an opportunity to catch up. This is

all helping and Hamilton comes in for his pit stop. Can he get out

ahead of Sebastian Vettel? That is the big question. Rosberg is passing

the start finish line. Vettel not far behind. I think Vettel will be

out in front of Hamilton. Looking good for the Ferrari but he has not

made a pit stop yet. We think Valtteri Bottas will get a 5 second

penalty for an unsafe release so he will have that added to his next pit

stop so it will be another slow one. In fact his pit stop was not slow

earlier but he left to quickly, at just the wrong moment, clattering

into the back of Jenson Button. Vettel is the one following Rosberg.

He is in second place and Hamilton in third with Raikkonen fourth.

Daniel Ricciardo makes the move on Marcus Ericsson. He is released a

little bit but can Hulkenberg do likewise? Meanwhile, Perez and

Grosjean racing hard and Perez goes down the inside, into Turn 11 and a

puff of smoke as he locks the brakes but he has made the move. They ended

up clashing here back in 2012. Actually Perez and whether colliding

with each other to take Grosjean out of the race but thankfully, this

time they get through the section cleanly with no repeat. On board

with Felipe Massa, behind Marcus Ericsson now. Ericsson started on

the harder compound tyres so he will stay out there for the moment, to

use the durability of the harder tyres for as long as possible.

Felipe Massa and Kvyat are up behind. It is quite demanding to

pass the Sauber over the lap, they have got quite an advantage and

Felipe Massa takes the move down the inside, to slip past the Sauber and

I don't think it will be too long before Kvyat does the same. He

should pick up the DRS and be in a good position to out-brake the

Sauber into Turn 11. Felipe Massa comfortable it clear of Ericsson and

here comes Daniil Kvyat, looking but not enough space. Almost an

opportunity for Kvyat to complete the manoeuvre but ultimately he

could not do it but he has a look at the inside now! Side-by-side, we

have seen it go wrong there before but that was great stuff from Kvyat.

And good from Ericsson as well because he realised he had too much

of the Red Bull alongside him and it was pointless trying to close the

door. That is a costly lock-up by vessel. Dropping about 0.4 and has

it damaged his front tyre? Now he's under pressure from Hamilton, look.

He needs to get past him pretty sharpish but he might not do it on

the first St. He's going for it. Hamilton going for it down the

inside past Vettel, for second place. Vettel is on tyres that have

been working pretty hard from the start of the Grand Prix. Hamilton is

on a fresh set. I think Vettel will get the DRS activation point as well

so although he has lost out on the rundown into the chicane, he will

get a bit of speed on the next rate. Has he damaged his tyre by locking

up down into that section just in front of the hotel, turn 17? That is

how the overtake took place. Kimi Raikkonen as caught Sebastian Vettel

now. Fighting for position, for third place, different strategies

from the two cars. We have seen they have both fought hard this year,

remember in Russia? Raikkonen was pretty hard on Vettel who got past

in the end when he was potentially quicker but I don't think Vettel

will fight, he lets Raikkonen around the outside. Sensible because they

have different strategies and they are effectively

have different strategies and they place today but in some

have different strategies and they there's no point right now,

have different strategies and they might as well wait until the end of

the race. Still relatively early stages of this Grand Prix, about a

third distance. First up and going quite past easily. What went on? It

looked like Carlos Sainz let quite past easily. What went on? It

through. Not only that but he drove down the discarded rubber on the

side of the track which will go into his own tyres. Alonso with his third

pit stop. He had a drive-through, of course. If Saints does not have an

issue, he's gone out of his way to allow his team-mate through.

Strange, wasn't it? I don't know what the plan was but the staff and

is now 11. A big lock-up a moment ago let's see if it was first up

on. Yes, on the front end. That will be a rather uncomfortable flat spot

which might force him to lead to the pits early. Having passed his

team-mate, I guess he was trying to get a move on and hammer home the

fact that he was quicker. An average of 1.7 seconds over his team-mate

but he has an issue now. Daniel Ricciardo, who is still tucked in

behind Grosjean. They come round to convey another lap. Let's listen to

bust and. RADIO: I have a flat spot. He's created a huge flat spot on the

tyres and says he has two box and come into the pits. He was about 0.6

seconds faster than his team-mate on that lap but he's paid a penalty by

ruining his tyre. It's been a great debut season and all is not lost.

This will compromise his total race time. Getting a fresh set of boots

on. Let's see how well Toro Rosso can do it. A relatively short stint

on a set of what should be the harder tyres so it might become a

three-stop race for Max Verstappen. We will have to wait and see.

Ferrari repairing for Vettel's first stop. Tom, clearly Vettel started on

the harder tyres. He is coming your way. RADIO: Box, Sebastien, box. I

can squeeze more. They have another set of primes ready so we know

Sebastian Vettel will have to make a second pit stop later in the race to

put on the option tyres. He is coming past me now. Brilliant stop

from the Ferrari mechanics, inch perfect so another stop coming from

Sebastian Vettel later. He will have to switch to the super-soft tyres at

the end of the race. Romain Grosjean is in at the same time. Getting

close to the wall as he goes through the tunnel, Sebastian Vettel, to

exit back out onto the circuit. Let's see where he comes out, in

front of Hulkenberg. That is a key manoeuvre. Hulkenberg coming in now.

We saw that Vettel came out ahead of him. A second stop for Nico

Hulkenberg. Going onto another set of the softer tyres -- soft tyres,

the harder tyres but again, relatively early time to do it for

Hulkenberg, only Lap 24. We will have to see. It might have to be a

three-stop strategy as well. Maybe more teams are finding that the

thermal degradation on the soft tyres, the prime tyres, as they are

called, is a bit greater than expected, Tom? The projected life of

the soft tyres, the primes that Hulkenberg have put on, is about 30

laps and that is what we've got to the end of the race. I spoke to the

Force India guys before the start and they definitely came into the

race planning an aggressive two stop, trying to get the undercut

like they did in Brazil two weeks ago. Talking of aggressive, bust up

and has snatched a place from Ericsson by going down the inside

into the hairpin but the problem is... He did get DRS, which was

clever because the detection point is before the hairpin so he was the

one that ended up with the rear flat bumping on his wing to help his

straight-line speed, clever stuff by the stab them. Not a great move by

the Dutchman, who has managed to get past the Sauber. It shows is spatial

awareness and the opportunity, that he has taken the wide line into the

hairpin, chucked it down the inside like a go-kart move. On board with

Sebastian Vettel. He's on a different strategy, just coming in

ahead of him was Ricciardo. Ricciardo in the Red Bull, coming at

around the halfway mark of this Grand Prix. Is he going to make it

two stops from here? That is presumably what he's planning but

it's early and he's got a long way to go on that set of tyres. Also

Felipe Massa coming in in the Williams. Let's hope they get a

clean pit stop this time and no repeat of the incident we saw

between Bottas... Although it was not that clean, 4.1 seconds although

we did not see it. Hamilton fastest in the first rector, a gap of 2.2

seconds. Quicker than Rosberg last time around. As we were discussing

earlier in the race, was it a slightly different approach to this

grand break? RADIO: 47.0, suffering from front right grading.

Interesting because the engineer is giving him information, having had

access to tyre temperature sensors and potentially slip angle sensors

that will be in the barrage, both Nico's engineers, sorry, Nico's data

engineer will be able to feed that information back and forth to the

pit wall. Expected pit stop for Force India so let's see, presumably

it is going to be Perez, making his second stop. Yes, in from fourth

place. Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel has set the fastest lap time. Really

good by Vettel in the Ferrari. Still lots to look forward to. Perez,

brilliant effort in qualifying yesterday, fourth on the grid,

accelerates away. Will he be able to get to the end? Perez is the kind of

driver who could do a very long stint, half the race on a set of

tyres but he will have to really look after them. That is his skill,

of course, we have seen it many times before but can he get to the

end of this set of tyres? He rejoins ahead of Ricciardo, responding to

Ricciardo's pit stop and out ahead of him. Exactly the kind of tactical

decisions that are constantly being run through with the simulation

programmes the teams have all stopped of course, using the

brainpower of the engineers on the pit wall. You don't rely on the data

as a fullback at all times. They instinctively know what is the right

thing to do. Nico Rosberg is coming in which is

quite early. He is on his way once again, barely controlled, he was

being caught. Lewis Hamilton has responded, going purple in the first

sector. Has maybe turned up the engine mode to try to do everything

he can to neutralise the effect of new tyres which Rosberg will be

delivering with his lap times. The gap as it was recorded, because

Rosberg had headed to the pit lane, it was recorded as 0.7 of a second.

But I would expect that gap to open slightly after the round of stops.

On board with Kimi Raikkonen. Ferrari responding to the Mercedes

pit stop. Is there any way that Kimi Raikkonen can close the gap? It's

not looking likely. Just trying to take third place today. Yes, but

continuing a good run, just a shade under ten seconds behind the lead

car last time around. I bet like we saw with Sebastian Vettel in Brazil,

keeping Mercedes honest. Problem on the right front, could not get the

wheel off, finally they do, Ferrari, logistically and operationally not

on their best form this weekend. It has cost four seconds at least, will

that have an effect on his battle with Sebastian Vettel? Certainly

going to put him under a little bit of pressure but he will come out in

front. , behind actually. But Sebastian Vettel have another stop

to do. The replay of Kimi Raikkonen, just did not seem the wheel would

release. Eventually when they get it on he was able to rejoin behind his

team-mate. Sebastian has been told, he has been told. He will swap. Has

that happened jet? Yes, he pulls over to allow Kimi Raikkonen to go

around on the outside. Kimi Raikkonen has just set the fastest

lap and Felipe Massa at the back of the group intent. -- in 10th. Kimi

Raikkonen doing everything he can to try to close the gap. Good to see

Ferrari are hanging in there. If you were to stop you would be six

seconds behind. Nico is currently 16.2. 18 laps remaining, thinking we

might stick with the prime tyres, it seems to be holding up well. Stick

with the prime tyre for now and go that bit deeper, is that the

message? He didn't answer the question, he wanted to know how many

laps does he need to keep pushing at this level. Last time around it was

over a second and this level. Last time around it was

what Nico Rosberg was able to do. Max Verstappen into the pits for his

bird pit stop, that lock-up he had earlier on kind of forced the team

into a three-stop race. He's gone for the super soft tyre so that is

what we can expect Lewis Hamilton to do when he comes in. Sebastian

Vettel stops for the final time, when will he come out? He will lose

position to Sergio Perez, what about Daniel Ricciardo? His former

team-mate at Red Bull. It will be fairly tight with Daniel Ricciardo.

Perez is well through, I think Daniel Ricciardo is also through.

Just going through the shot, Sebastian Vettel rejoins behind him.

A couple of cars to overtake, this could be interesting in the opening

stages. Sebastian Vettel rejoined in sixth place. If he can catch Sergio

Perez in the Force India. He has some work to do. A brand-new set of

the option tyres having gone out early in qualifying so he will be

able to exploit great performance, expect him to deliver the fastest

lap of the Grand Prix aided with a bit of DRS as well. Closing write-up

on Daniel Ricardo very, very quickly. -- closing right up on

Daniel Ricciardo very, very quickly. Will he take full advantage? Sparks

fly. Daniel Ricciardo cuts back, he is hoping Daniel Ricciardo doesn't

have the grip but he's hanging on there. Doesn't have the tyre grip

but has a chassis which has been performing really well. If I was to

back off and look after these tyres until the end how slow can I go per

lap? I think that would be pretty much impossible to do so I think

what we are planning is a way to go. much impossible to do so I think

Please give me the calculation. It is not even worth working the

numbers, it would be a real gamble and it would not pay off, I

guarantee it. He wants this race, he wants to win it whatever it takes!

Brilliant stuff from Lewis Hamilton and his engineer, being as sly as he

can without breaking trust. This is off script, this is not what

Mercedes were expecting. Quite clear at the thinking of Hamilton, 14 laps

to go. He has done 29 on these tyres. Looks like they have made the

decision for him. Does he come in? What we were going to get some radio

but we didn't. They believe he is coming in but is Hamilton going to

come in? Mexico he did not come in on the first call if you remember.

Is Lewis Hamilton coming in? I think he is, yeah, Lewis Hamilton into the

pits. He will surely go for the pits. He will surely go the soft,

the prime tyre. He's going to drive qualifying laps. Doesn't have any

traffic in front of him. But we have been denied some action late in the

Grand Prix. Jenson Button a moment ago heading down the Main straight,

passed by Marcus Ericsson, did something else go on? Ericsson ran a

bit wide but I don't think there was anything particularly notable. Nice

job Jensen, nice job. Able to affect the pass. This has been a great

weekend for McLaren all things considered. Certainly an

improvement, Jenson Button in 12th, a good move on the outside of Turn

11. Pit stop for Romain Grosjean, final stop for him. He was part of a

group that was all very close. We are not getting any radio. We will

keep you informed. Something just at the end. He is continuing on his way

at the moment. Still maintaining the edge over Hamilton. Let's look at

what happened with Felipe Nasr and Max Verstappen, he did exactly what

he did to Marcus Ericsson earlier on. Great stuff from Max Verstappen.

That line is the best way to get the straightest drive onto the back

straight. Just puts his car in there. Sebastian Vettel goes over to

all the marbles and Sergio Perez does not give it up. Sebastian

Vettel makes it look very easily which it is not necessarily.

What does Jenson Button have two would out for? Max Verstappen behind

him, late move down the outside from Max Verstappen on Jenson Button but

Jenson Button not giving up just yet, almost touched, side-by-side,

Max Verstappen goes out wide, he might have to give that back. He

should do, he went off the circuit, great stuff from Jenson Button, not

giving it up at all. He might come back, Turn 11 was where he came back

a moment ago but you can quite do it. I think we might get some radio

between the team, perhaps a request to the race director to investigate

that. One of the great things of the modern circuit is safety in proving

as Nico Rosberg gets past Jenson Button. But one of the downsides

knows that you can push the limit and see what the stewards think. You

are not going to willingly give the position back but if somebody says

it is too much, which to me, it did look too much, he ran completely off

his third podium finish of the year but a great finish to the season for

him. He beat Valtteri Bottas to be the top driver from fenland, who was

in fourth in the end. Sebastian Vettel takes fourth place today but

season was utterly dominated by Mercedes, as was 2014. Williams were

chuffed to bits with third place. Let's hear from the main players in

today's race. Happy and excited about how it finished, for sure. It

has been great. To have found that extra performance, you know, to

really dominate at the end of the last couple of races, it is a great

feeling, to give the guy is a good reason to party tonight and also to

go all out, flat out, it's going to be good fun. It's been an incredible

season but I would imagine he would have liked to finish off with a

victory but not to be out there today. Yes, a very difficult race

surprising happens. When we had our chances, we used to them. But we

know that there's a lot of catching up to do for next year. You looked

like you are having a bit of fun out there to night. Yes, it was good

fun. It is tough for us, racing around here, for obvious reasons.

But I had a couple of good fights and a couple of good overtaking

moves, trying to keep others back was fun. Aggressive today and

enjoyed it. To keep a Williams behind 45 laps I think we should be

happy -- for five laps, we should be happy with that and it shows our

strength that he could not get close on the first-rate. Identity know

what is closing speed was. I thought the jet that came over on the start

was chasing him around the back straight! Many areas we need to work

on. We know there are many areas we can improve overnight with the

package change. It was nice to end with a smile on my face and

hopefully the team did as well watching. That has given us food for

Rosberg with three wins in a row and six pole positions in a row, he's

going into the winter floating, full of confidence. Three quarters of the

way through the season, we were asking if he had a World

Championship in him, and now we are thinking, if he starts 2016 like

this... That's the thing, we also said if Lewis Hamilton was not

there, he would be the champion. Lewis had the edge in the first half

of the season and whatever he was doing... The great debate for me was

did Lewis mentally switch off after he won the title? Did Nico, having

hit rock bottom, throwing his cap and performing quite badly publicly

the way he handled that the feat, since then, you speed impeccable on

track. Made hardly any mistakes I can see which was always something

that was there in seasons. If he was under pressure, he might lock-up and

run wide which we have seen a few times but he is ironed it out and if

that is the new Nico Rosberg, we will be in for an incredible

bottleneck season. He seems to have been happier since the change in

Tyre pressure. And also hydraulic suspension has gone back to

mechanical suspension for Lewis Hamilton, they run many De Vrij

configurations and run them during the year. Sometimes it talks to

you, gives you a feeling that unleashes your confidence and it has

worked for Nico. But we won't find out until Melbourne next year, 112

days until next season starts but we will be back in a couple of weeks

with the season review. But for the 2015 season, from Abu Dhabi, that is
