Highlights - Mexico Formula 1

When I was in the race I got a great start. Hamilton may have the chance

to go on the inside. Hamilton certainly worked that to his

advantage of actual forward and backwards, forwards and backwards,

for a moment it looked unlikely. Then I was behind him after the

safety car and I was like, I know I've got this. Then you see things

like what happened when I was behind. I was looking forward to

it, excited, and it made it a lot easier for me when I came past. He

has made a mistake. He was driving pretty well, people think I am not

being pushed, he is driving really well. I look at his laps and think,

he has come a long way because it go karting he had no chance. Hamilton

is where he needs to be to win the championship. It is like a

countdown, eight laps, seven laps, six laps. I was thinking, you are

almost there. Lewis Hamilton has won is third World Championship, the

2015 world champion. With all the things that have gone, all the

years, the ups and downs, moving team and everyone's negative

comments on that and see how it has evolved... I guess just a bundle of

things come together. It made it the best day.

It is the greatest moment of my life. Thank you guys so much. I am

so grateful. To win like that, it was not a pole

to the end or I had to finish this, I just happened to finish fifth

because I passed him at the last corner. It felt strong, it felt

amazing. There has been no doubt this year that Lewis Hamilton has

dominated 2015. This has been a pretty amazing year for me, it has

been the busiest, I don't think I have been as consistent before as I

have this year. But now, as you can see, I can do all these other things

and drive well. We said he was relaxed throughout this championship

campaign, but you can just see now that real release of emotion. If it

does happen, so be it, but I'm going to be around for awhile. If I put in

the work and we do as a team, put in work, hopefully there will be more

successful years. The man who seemingly has it all, triple world

champion Lewis Hamilton. It is race day. Hello and welcome to the

Mexican Grand Prix and from one world champion to another, just

linking those classes of his head. Nigel Mansell, lovely to see you.

Good morning, wonderful here in Mexico. Beautiful at the moment.

Lewis Hamilton, how long can this purple patch continued EU think West

at as long as the team support is there and Lewis keeps his focus. He

is driving brilliantly at the moment. To defend a World

Championship better than the manner he won get the first time and the

third time world champion, is on a high like there is no tomorrow. Nico

did a great job yesterday, pole position. We have a great race here.

Where do you stand on how good Lewis is? It is impossible to compare

eras. It is impossible to compare, but at this point in time he is

right up there. And for me he is a legend already. You would have liked

to have race him? Absolutely, I keep saying I want to be his team-mate

next year and be on the podium. Let's look at the domination Lewis

has commanded. 76 points ahead of Sebastian Vettel, who currently

holds second place. Ultimate control for Mercedes in the Constructors'

Championship who got the title in Russia. 200 points ahead of Ferrari.

Nigel, we are in Mexico you were the last man to win around here in 1992.

Great atmosphere this weekend, was it the same back then? Fantastic. I

think David agrees, what they have done with the circuit, the

improvements... The fans and all the marshals, it is electrifying. For me

personally being back here 23 years later, winning the last race here,

the overtake with Gerhardt. It doesn't get much better. And winning

the championship in 92. They have renamed that corner Mansour corner.

We have the images when you found your way round the outside. It is

amazing. I will share this as well. I'm thinking about and I thought, oh

well, let's give it a go! In for a penny, in for a pound. But the great

thing is, the first car round the last Templar curb will win the race.

Let's look at the track, that was back in the 90s and this is how it

looks now. Set in this sprawling metropolis. There have been a few

changes, do you think for the better? They had to change because

of modern safety standards. This is what we have, a fantastic facility.

As Nigel said it was a great atmosphere when he raced, it is a

great atmosphere to have Formula 1 in Mexico City. They really know how

to party here. Gridlocked in the traffic for two hours and they are

partying out there. We had some oncoming down the motorway last

night on a 3 wheeler selling things at 40 mph down the hill. A bit like

being back in Birmingham! Nigel has already given away who is in pole

position but let's check on the rest of qualifying.

Even before arriving in Mexico McLaren knew they would be starting

from the back of the grid after accumulating a raft of penalties.

Jenson Button didn't even make it out for the first session of

qualifying, while Fernando Alonso could not progress past it. After an

impressively quick engine and gear change by Ferrari, Kimi Raikkonen

got out on track but was suffering from brake issues and had a spin so

he parked it. Red Bull's optimism was cautious heading to the circuit

with its long straights but they have been stronger this weekend.

They got both cars in front of the Williams. Kvyat author and Riccardo

one place behind. Lewis Hamilton kept putting down early markers for

pole position but every time Nico Rosberg was able to go even quicker.

He out-qualified Lewis by almost two tenths. Mercedes set an all-time

record for the front row starts, getting their 13th of 2015. Vettel

was third and just two tenths of Hamilton. Daniel Kvyat with his best

start. Match rushed up and had another strong performance and

starts in eighth. Both Force Indias reached qualifying three for the

third race running, Perez out-qualifying Hulkenberg. Sainz

11th. Pastor Maldonado in car 13 is 13th on the grid. Rossi

out-qualified Stevens. Fernando Alonso is 18th after his 15 place

grid penalty. Kimi Raikkonen takes a 30 Five Place penalty for a gearbox

and engine change, but nothing in comparison to Jenson Button, who

takes a record 70 place grid penalty but starts at the back.

We are at the incredible stadium section, 27,000 people will be here

when the race starts just in this part alone. The cars will come here

for the podium, it will be incredible? A break from tradition,

normally the podium is above the pit lane. An inspired choice. We believe

Nigel Mansell will be there to present the winners. It will be an

amazing atmosphere. It really is, goose bumps already. Back to

qualifying, Nico Rosberg, his 20th pole position and an enviable

record, more pole positions than any other driver who has not won the

title. Can he convert it today? He can convert it to winning but the

championship will have to wait until next year. I have a feeling he is

going to break the trend. The trend has been Lewis qualifying second and

going on to win but I think the nature of this racetrack, if we can

get a clean start into Turn 1, he will have the all-important choice

of when to stop. And any has a clean run at the front. If he can't do it

here, then I think the poor boy is going to cry all the way to Brazil.

The key point here for the race, getting into Turn 1 first, a good

start, but what else will be the factors? Getting to Turn 1 and being

on the clean side of the track. That is a Kieran Low. Tyres, we know they

can do one stop but two stops can be fast. You can gain enough lap time

to push on a fresh set of tyres. Because the grid is quite close on

this track you do not find the clean areas to drop into, so I expect most

people to go for one-stop. Varies the weather. Glorious sunshine right

now but it can change at the flick of a coin and there are

thunderstorms in the area 's. A brilliant point, I completely

forgot. At one o'clock we are forecast to have some storms. We saw

some rain in qualifying, not enough to affect lap times. Will it play a

part? I hope not. We don't want to see these fans getting wet. I don't

know. More on tyres now. The difference in lap time between the

tyre compounds this weekend is 1.5 seconds per lap and that will

encourage the drivers to stick with the soft tyre for as long as

possible because it is so much faster. But there is one big unknown

and it is this, the asphalt. It was only laid two weeks ago I normally

need three months to stabilise and lose its oily texture. Without the

opportunity to do that we know it will be slippery and grip levels

will ramp up dramatically during the course of the race. By how much that

happens will affect tyre degradation. Thank you. Everybody

getting ready here on the grid and much anticipation about this race.

More than 100,000 fans here to watch this spectacle. When Sergio Perez

took to the track for the drivers parade, this place erupted! The

stadium section reached fever pitch as he lifted the flag to greet his

fans. These two on the front of the grid, the longest of the season, 800

metres. They will be standing on the brakes at 200 mph. David and Ben in

the commentary box. Formula 1 is back in Mexico. Take a deep breath!

COMMENTATOR: The formation lap about to get underway and Formula 1 is to

get one of its loudest receptions anywhere in the world from the

packed grandstands in Mexico. Nico Rosberg leads away, Lewis Hamilton

joining them on the front row for the 13th time this year. They are

setting down to that long run to Turn 1 to get a feel of the cars.

The first area of packed grandstands, and it is just a

brilliant atmosphere that we have got. What kind of race is this track

going to deliver? That is a question. Hamilton already has

wrapped up the championship. Vettel still only just ahead of Rosberg in

the point. Watch out for the Ferrari, it has been looking good in

terms of race pace. Looking at the grid I wonder if all the cars got

away cleanly or not. Just on the exit of the final corner. They do

appear to be registered. This will be interesting. The track

temperature more than 20 degrees warmer than in free practice stop

not the same pressure to warm the tyres. They have a good handle of

understanding what the relatively low degradation on the tyres is

like. We will a fairly slow rotten to the grid, I would suspect. Again,

Rosberg will not be wanting to sit there for too long. Monitoring and

maintaining engine temperatures will be key this afternoon. Tom, what is

it like in the pits at the moment? Chaos down here, people running

everywhere. The richest man in the world is just walking past me.

Opposite me in the grandstands they are chanting the name of Checo

Perez. It is unlike anything I have experienced in Formula 1. Into the

final stadium which has been used for music concerts and baseball and

also being used for motor racing. That is where the podium will be for

whoever comes out on top in this race later on. What a reception they

are getting now and what a reception they will get, the top three, when

they emerge. A long way to go, 71 laps. What was summed up in that TV

image there, presumably a Mexican fan waving a Mexican flag but

wearing a Vettel Ferrari T-shirt. That is what I love about fans of

motorsport, they are not just nationalistic but support all the

teams. It adds to the welcome we are getting in Mexico. Rosberg starting

on pole, Hamilton alongside. Massa and Verstappen. Perez starting mind.

Hulkenberg 10th. Watch out from the back the likes of Raikkonen, Alonso

and Jenson Button. Three world champions in the last three places

of the grid. Contrary to what I, Rosberg got to his grid position

very early. Jenson Button won't keep him waiting too long. Last few cars

moving into position. Jenson Button is the final car. He has been there

several times this year already. Nico Rosberg has been on pole

position for the last three events and has failed to win a single one.

Can he beat the new three-time champion?

Nico Rosberg ahead of Hamilton, chased by Kvyat and in the distance,

Ricciardo. This is crucial for Rosberg, he has clean air and can

control the race. He will no Hamilton will be under pressure to

managers and bridges. He will have to drop back. Maldonado and Grosjean

side-by-side. They were like that into the corner. Very close between

the two Lotus drivers, just outside the top ten at the moment.

OK, retire the car, retire the car. Loss of power for Alonso, no change

of front at the moment. Perez has survived the opening lap and is in

eighth position. Hulkenberg is in ninth. Vettel has just made it into

the pits, losing his braking performance. We have heard Alonso is

retiring the car, the first retirement this afternoon. Vettel

not getting away, I think he was being blocked by a Alonso.

Compounding the difficulty he will have this afternoon. We hope to stay

with this into the road to Turn 1. I think it was before the term that

contact was made with Daniel Ricciardo, the proposition man got

away more cleanly but not as big a threat to the others. Vettel lost

out initially into the first corner. Let us watch the action as they

bunched up. I expected some contact. Vettel just closing the door. The

contact was made, to me that looks like a racing incident, it will be

interesting to see what the stewards say, there was enough of Daniel's

car alongside to suggest that Sebastian would know he was there

but Lewis gets himself into the slipstream, no DRS but you can see

the effect of running in the slipstream. Not enough momentum to

carry him round. Nicely judged by Rosberg. Let us see how it was for

Ricciardo. He will lose out to Daniel and already there was almost

contact. Sebastian gets into the slipstream and close to the outside.

Daniel is thinking he will follow the inside line and he does, you see

the door close and he comes from quite a long way back. I do not

think there was any malice in that but the stewards have to go one way,

you will always favour the car in front of course, as on the road, if

you pile into someone from behind on unless they rammed the brakes on

randomly then you are responsible. We will wait and see. Wheel-to-wheel

action and it continued and I think Massa runs a bit wide, pushing out

onto the kerb and that allows bot asked to come back to him. This is

where Vettel gets into some difficulty in four, five, six,

everyone bunching up behind him. That was on board with Perez, trying

to stay out of trouble. Great driving from both drivers, giving

each other enough space. It is pretty early, you would think this

might push Bottas into a two-stop race. They have got the opportunity

to keep an eye on Vettel and see what he is doing on the medium tyre

but that might make it two stops. I think they looked at the lap time

for Vettel, only two tenths slower and has the benefit of running in

fresh air. That is the risk I think for Williams in making such an early

stop. You could find yourself running another ten to 15 laps

behind other cars who are doing a later one-stop and you could lose

time in that traffic. This is interesting, the Saubers together,

and they tangled in the race, which is the nightmare for any team. Pace

is good, how is the tyre? All on the undercut. Perez notably good at

looking after his tyres but he is struggling with them a little bit.

This was Bottas's pit stop. Comes off a rip-off, which looked to hang

on his finger for a moment. A little bit slow but otherwise that looked a

reasonable stop. With the higher temperatures here, because of the

less dense air, could wheels going on and off the more of a problem

here? That is a great shot, taking a bit longer with the wheel gun for

that one. We saw him drop away from Carlos Sainz, will we see this

converted into a two-stop race for a number of cars, these high track

temperatures, 54 degrees, working the tyre is harder than they

expected. The pit stop delta is showing 21 seconds right now,

quicker than what the teams were predicting. The benefit of that is

it makes it less of a penalty to do an extra stop, when you have a long

pit lane time, that forces you to take less stops. We saw a retirement

almost before the race got underway and unfortunately it was Alonso. Won

what was the problem? Yesterday night we had a problem. This

morning, we looked at it, we had possibilities, retire the car or

start the race and try our maximum and know that one that was the

maximum we could achieve, we did one lap for respect of the fans because

they have been amazing all weekend and we will try to improve next

time. I cannot think of a season where you have done so few laps,

getting frustrating? It has been a frustrating season obviously. Even

to be able to participate in this race with this amazing crowd, even

if you are last, at least you are on the track. It is very hard but at

the moment we are not doing a good job. He said earlier it was the most

enjoyable drivers parade lap he had ever experienced. This was the move

made by Sebastian Vettel a moment ago and that was all very

straightforward. A bit of fighting back going on but in the end he made

the move stick. Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso on fresh tyres but the

momentum with Vettel who is well on his way to getting points. He is

only four seconds behind 10th place Hulkenberg and at this rate he will

eat into that quickly. Hamilton has just set the fastest lap now, not by

a big margin but still, nonetheless a quick lap on that occasion. Quite

a crucial manoeuvre where they get past Carlos Sainz at this point.

Shows the Ferrari has good pace and we see that from Raikkonen as well

as he closes up to Sergio Perez. He was the first person in the race to

start on the harder compound tyre. How long will Jenson Button be able

to fend off the Ferrari? Not long I think, sadly, he is running in 11th

place. This is fourth position so it is not as if he would have the move

out of the way but you would expect the Ferrari to get past promptly.

Carlos Sainz will also be looking to do likewise. OK, we can reduce the

brakes slightly, two or three tenths of the lap time would help us with

Daniil Kvyat, he could be very close to us. Break saving, how does the

driver go about that? Just to push the brake pedal as hard for so

long, normally you are heavy at the start of a Grand Prix and you have

more energy being accelerated and the celebrated around the track but

because of the slower time, the breaking pace is less, we are

lifting and coasting, we do not expect them to be fuel limited this

afternoon so there will not be as much of that as at other Grand Prix

but they will lift off the throttle for a predetermined time to wait

before they apply the brakes pressure. That takes out some of the

heat and energy as we see Vettel performing a straightforward pass,

did not really need the DRS against the McLaren but he gets it, science

trying to follow through as well. Sebastian Vettel moving up to 11th

place. Sainz will now try and do the same thing, riding on board with the

Spaniard as he tries to find a way past Jenson Button. Who is obviously

struggling for straight line speed at the end of straights but now we

are into the tight twiddly sections, the McLaren has been showing a good

turn of pace through the complexes and Alonso said yesterday he was

proud of the pace in the car in sectors two and three. Credit where

it is due, one of the longest phases, Vettel has spun. He has only

just got past the McLaren and he has lost places. That is the medium

section of the lap just as you go through seven or was it ten? I think

that was at turn seven, he had just done the fastest first sector

benefiting from the slipstream and DRS, who was next man up, it was

Hulkenberg but too much of a gap so just a mistake. He just threw it off

the road effectively. Drivers has said it is a low grip surface but

that shows it is tricky. Up into seven, turns in, the momentum sees

him lose the rear of the car, I suspect he will have flat spotted

those tyres as well. Any chance of doing a long one-stop race are now

in difficulty. Sainz has got past button now, that was an important

manoeuvre for him. Vettel is going again in 15th position but has lost

several valuable places. An uncharacteristic mistake from the

four-time world champion has dropped him further down the order again

after a lot of hard work has been done. Raikkonen going around in

seventh place in the other Ferrari. You lie it is wide open, you can see

the rear wing open like a letterbox, Jenson Button does not make it much

difficult, not much he can do on such a long straight. And again,

this is the replay of Vettel, he runs off the circuit as well and is

on top of that curve as he comes into the stadium, the problem of

going off the track is you get a lot of dirt on your tyres, unusual to

see two mistakes and the local hero Perez is making for the pits. From

sixth place and they are trying to do this on one stop. They have got

to Lap 18, 19 for the leaders and the way he goes. He should be able

to get to the end if the tyre wear forecasts are correct on these sets

of tyres. Just in front of Sainz and you can see if the camera angle

picks it up, a lot of momentum and he has to get the pass into Turn 1.

A crucial manoeuvre because they were dicing before the pit stops, it

could not have been much closer to that as they had out of the pit lane

but Carlos Sainz, crucial he got in front of the Mercedes powered Force

India. The Force India slow to react to Carlos Sainz making the stop,

delivering his best lap of the Grand Prix, you call it the undercut,

making the early stop. Tom, do you think Force India are wary of

getting to the end on this set of tyres? I think he lost a crucial one

or two seconds there because they change the front wing flap angle

after all the tyres had been put on so he's with stationary longer than

needed to be. On board with Sergio Perez, still chasing Sainz after

that pit stop, they have been close on the track for much of the race so

far and he has a little bit of a slipstream here. Goes past the

packed grandstand, the brand-new grandstands around this area of the

circuit. They will be urging their man on, Sergio Perez, to see if he

can take this place but at the moment he is in 11th.

Kvyat is in the pits. They put the medium compound tyres on and he will

plan to make it all the way to the end of the Grand Prix. A few people

we know are likely to be making two stops. Lets see where he comes out,

Verstappen goes ahead of him. We are still waiting for Verstappen to make

his pit stop. Comes out ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, but Raikkonen has

one pit stop to go himself will stop and Raikkonen back in the way with

Valtteri Bottas. We remember what happened to them in Russia. A bit of

a score to settle here. Bottas felt, fairly I think, that Raikkonen was

unrepentant. In the DRS on. Here he comes round the outside, a little

lock-up, they almost touch. Bottas as the line. They hit, they hit!

Raikkonen of this time. Raikkonen goes out and that is his suspension.

That's what you would call payback. Interesting to see if the stewards

have anything to say on that. He had positioned himself nicely on the

outside. Kimi Raikkonen ran as far wide as he could. Team radio. RADIO:

I think the rear right is damaged. Dave Greenwood just informing.

Sometimes it is hard to tell how much damage is done to the car, but

that is clearly all done. A little bit of a continuation of what

happened in Russia, when it was Raikkonen who made the last-gasp

attempt to overtake for the podium finish and knocked Bottas out of the

race. Bottas did not want to give way this time. Even if Bottas has

damaged his car, I will tell you Frank Williams is a racer and he

would rather see his guy have a go, get stuck in and not give up.

Absolutely at the limit. Got his car fairly alongside, Kimi knows he is

there. Tries to shut the door, Bottas... Well, I've got to say that

the. Interesting. Kimi got a penalty added in Sochi. If they look at that

they may well say what happened there could happen here. I think

Bottas was their league alongside. You can't expect, if you have sight

of the car alongside you, you cannot expect him to disappear. The

incident with Raikkonen in Sochi, he came from a long way back. Bottas

spot front wheel was at the apex. Bottas is still running around in

sixth place. There is no evidence, looking at his lap times right now,

that he has damaged on the car. What I was saying about Frank Williams,

he loves that sort of attacking drive. RADIO: OK with the car?

Pressures look good. He just cut you up and gave you no space.

Copy that, no space inside. Copy that. Busily talking for the benefit

of the race director. It is under consideration. We will see what the

decision is on this one. We are coming up to one third distance will

stop this is Maldonado on Button before we saw Vettel go past. Down

into Turn 1. Jenson Button not giving it up at all, tries to run it

round the outside, but in the end a nice pass. Maldonado kept it

sensible and nailed it down into turn two. Into the pits comes Daniel

Ricciardo. We will see where it puts him. Kvyat will go through, I'm

sure, still ahead of him. Let's wait and see. Still expecting Mercedes to

make their pit stops relatively soon. Kvyat will be flashing past, I

think he already has done. Yes, Bottas and then Massa just behind

him. Daniil Kvyat will come and find them. Verstappen in fourth is still

running but his times are not there, 25.2. The team leaving him out there

so long and clearly running more than a second off the pace. RADIO:

Nico, not long, start pushing hard now. Rosberg will be in soon.

Although Ricciardo has come out behind the two Williams, they

stopped early and are likely, not definite, to have to make a second

stop. It depends on the tyre life of these tyres. Vettel has done more

than anybody yet he tries to close up once again Maldonado. Vettel

already has done some 23 laps on these tyres and trying to go to the

end. I doubt it will be possible. RADIO: Box, box, box. Push hard,

brakes are in reasonable condition. We will see Rosberg first in. As

ever the leader of the two Mercedes gets first call on the pit stop.

That is one of the great shames of Formula 1. When you have two guys

battling wheel-to-wheel, it maintains the advantage was that

Verstappen heads for the pits. They are in danger of losing to Perez, a

late stop for them. Rosberg and Hamilton will have to push one more

lap. Rosberg with fresh tyres will be able to get maximum attack on the

engine and keep that gap. Watch out for Sainz and Perez as they go down

the straight. I didn't Verstappen will come out just ahead of them.

Yes, Verstappen has got out in head -- ahead of Sainz and Perez. The

brakes... You see it all the time but Verstappen has lost out slightly

to Hulkenberg. He was fighting fresh air and losing lap time. All it has

done is allowed Sainz to get a little closer. The race leader

Rosberg is in. Another beautiful stop from the Mercedes crew, who

consistently deliver in the pits as well as they do in terms of a car

that is faster than anybody else's. Rosberg heading on his way. Hamilton

now will be trying his utmost to set his fastest lap of the race so far,

but I don't think he has the tyres to be able to do that. Mercedes very

much on a one-stop strategy. Rosberg on to do that. Mercedes very much on

a one-stop strategy. Rosberg onto the are preheated but he has to

bring them in. Interestingly no further action in the Raikkonen and

Bottas incident, seen as a racing incident. I would concur with that.

I think there was enough of Bottas' car alongside Raikkonen, could not

claim he did not know he was there. The overhead cameras, they will

analyse. The rear axle locked up. The man doesn't have to move. Prime

tyres till the end. New prime tyres to the end. The medium tyre. You can

see the ten centimetre markers, they analyse all the data afterwards and

they can see whether the driver was long and it caused an issue or if

there were any individual issues. Hamilton stayed out a bit longer.

Vettel down the side of Maldonado. Maldonado may be able to get him

back, I think he has. Vettel slithering slightly out of control

and losing out as a result. I'm surprised Hamilton stayed out

because Hamilton just popped in the fastest Middlesex. This may be a

strategic play where he wants with his engineer to have fresher tyres

than Rosberg at the end of the Grand Prix. -- fastest middle sector. I

think he has no choice but to come in this lap, cannot afford to start

losing time. And crucially the temperatures will be affected

running in traffic. Box, box, box. Nico faster on the prime. Slightly

fresher tyres by two laps, it might help at the end. How cool are these

guys question what they know they have to deliver a 2 second pit stop

but it shows their professionalism and confidence. Hamilton through the

S'. Traffic just ahead. They are reacting to bringing in this lap.

This fantastic stadium. Just missed the apex slightly. It is quite a

tricky entry to the pit lane as they pass under the grandstand. The fans

shouting for Checo. Have to take a tight line. No big heroics from

Hamilton. You can tell he is playing for longer game here. Tidy and

controlled stop, that is what you call tidy customer service as they

sent out in 2.4 seconds. Remarkable. Lewis Hamilton has made his stop

from second place but he will be behind Nico Rosberg when he emerges

from the pits. A very similar pit stop, maybe a 10th faster for

Hamilton. There is Rosberg, still in control of this race at this point.

Carlos Sainz still fends off Sergio Perez for the moment. Verstappen

just ahead of them. You would think the Force India might have the edge

in terms of straight-line speed. A mistake from Sainz. He rejoins but

surely he will have to give the place up. No question. Not a great

moment for him to make a mistake. Never a great time to stop we have

seen Vettel, the four time champion, do it. He is under the spotlight as

to his performance. He is doing a great job at Toro Rosso but

Verstappen has taken the main headlines. I think it is inevitable

he will have to give that place back from gaining an advantage. Meanwhile

Rosberg upfront as responded, four tenths quicker than Hamilton. We saw

him cut the track. What a lovely place to let him through in front of

all of the fans. A bit of a stage show from Perez. If he gets a good

drive off here, let's just watches rear wing. Did he get his timing

right? He might be able to come back. Good spatial awareness from

the young Spaniard. He is going to have a go but not quite close

enough. Perez in front of Sainz. That is what it was about, less

about the showmanship and more about being in the right place to pick up

the DRS. It was clever but unfortunately it came after a

mistake. He has the DRS again. Perez could imply a bit more battery

energy in those areas. Good straight-line speed from the

Mercedes. He hasn't got so much energy now in the battery to use

around the remainder of the lap forced up the rear lights flashing

on the car, showing they are no longer deploying a electrical

energy. Carlos' light flashed. That element of the recoverable energy is

used to defend and attack. Justine Marie Black, runs it wide and

crucially crosses the DRS activation line. -- just seeing the replay. The

fans loved it. That was the response as he overtook in the key section.

He has managed to hold onto that place. That puts him into ninth

place now, going after Verstappen. In comes Vettel. Yeah, no choice but

to take that second stop. He complained earlier of a slight flat

spot from that spin at turn seven. He will be more than capable of

going to the end of the Grand Prix. Another set of primes. Yes, should

be able to get to the end of the race and be an good tyres for the

remainder but a long way down the field. Yes, not often you see a

Ferrari getting lapped. He will pop out behind Rosberg and in front of

Hamilton. Some of those drivers took an early pit stop are having to

think about making another one around this time which is pretty

much what you would expect at this point in the race. Hulkenberg has

been on the radio with the team. They have been discussing if he

should becoming in. He was one to make an early pit stop, as did the

two Williams'. He did 30 laps on his medium tyre. But we will see if that

makes any difference to the guys who are looking at making a second pit

stop. We can listen to Vettel's radio. I am quicker than him. Let

him buy otherwise we get a penalty. That was awake going to be a bit

tricky, Vettel ahead of Hamilton. Already had a couple of blue flags

and has to move out of the way if you are given the blue flag. Vettel

does so cleanly and he will no doubt try to stay pretty much within the

slipstream of Lewis Hamilton as they continue. Carlos Sainz coming into

the pits. This going for a second pit stop for Carlos Sainz, not going

to the end of the Grand Prix. Putting on the option, the soft

tyre. Let's see where this brings him back out. Justine the leader go

through, so lapped by the two Mercedes, the Toro Rosso, a little

bit of a downer. He comes out behind Sebastian Vettel. They were fighting

earlier on a little bit. Carlos Sainz now well have to make the most

of these tyres, which should be much quicker than most of the cars around

him. Interesting to see how he delivers a lap time in direct

comparison with Verstappen on the older tyre. Rosberg has responded to

Hamilton's fastest lap by setting one of his own. Hamilton lights up

the first sector. It is a question of both Mercedes drivers pushing

hard. We are hoping that something is going to happen. Right now it has

been a fairly uneventful Grand Prix. Gap to Lewis... Don't tell me any

more, don't me any more! Used to Nico saying I don't want to hear any

more. He stays out of his ears and Rosberg is absolutely focused on

maintaining this gap. We often hear that. I know the voice of the driver

can tell us a little bit of what is going on in their head. Leave me

alone, let me get on with it. You can see visibly where Hamilton is.

The gap to .9 seconds. Interesting, because normally the relationship

with the engineer is one of the closest relationships that you have

within the team. You know, believe and trust he will do everything in

his power to make sure you have the best in your car, the best strategy.

If they are not fighting for every element of performance within the

team, then you wouldn't have them on your car. It is unusual to be short

and slightly aggressive, if you like, with that person. In many ways

within the relationship that is a person looking after you the most.

Another little lock-up for Carlos Sainz, got out of it pretty quickly

but does not want to mess up these tyres so early on in his second

stint on them. Needs to protect them a little. Hamilton still chasing

down Rosberg, but has he got an answer here? We saw Nico Rosberg

lead the Grand Prix in Russia but we never really got to find out if he

had the pace to stay ahead of Hamilton because he had a broken

throttle pedal, which put him out of the Grand Prix. But on this occasion

at the moment Rosberg seems to be doing everything necessary.

Concentration absolutely total. This was a lock-up a moment ago. That is

where he went off the circuit. Nico Rosberg on for another set of tyres.

Presumably Mercedes will do this with both cars. They may have felt

they wouldn't have got to the end of the Grand Prix without another

change of tyres. The gap they have is more than enough to be able to

make that stop. We are going to convert to plan B.

Let us know if you need a front adjust. Lewis Hamilton is now

leading the Grand Prix but he will be coming in at any moment and

switching onto another set of tyres. Nico Rosberg has gone back out on

the medium compound, any difference in strategies between the cars,

would they put him on the yellow option tyres? That is his call and

he demands it of his team and they believe it is safe to do so then

they will let him do it. But it is a fairly late call for him so I think

he will be relying on the information he has been given an

trust he will get the best tyres much for the team, it makes sense to

have the same set of tyres to avoid any controversy. Carlos Sainz did

put on the soft compound a little while ago but it is likely Mercedes

will do the same for both, if he does stay out and does not come in

at all, he has a chance of winning this race, if he thinks he can go to

the end, they are waiting for him and he is not coming in, is it his

call? Wouldn't it be fantastic if it was bastion mark the team were out

and they now have to go and wrap those tyres, they are still out in

the pit lane waiting. But why not, let us listen to the radio. Can I

ask why? We are worried about tyre wear, those tyres are down to the

canvas. It is for safety reasons, box this lap. And he didn't so Lewis

Hamilton has taken strategy under control within the car here. His pit

crew are still out on the pit lane, they have wrapped the tyres, if he

does get falls to come in, I think that is misinformation they are

saying they are down to the canvas, they said earlier, 10%, why would

they have more wear than the previous set? You need to check his

tyres, my tyres are good. We are down to zero on the first set, we

will be down to zero if not worse, box at the end of this lap,

instruction. He is coming in, he argued his case but in the end he

has responded to the team. Full respect for using the opportunity to

say look at his tyres but this will be interesting. We have to trust the

engineered to give him the right information, those tyres will be a

bit cooler having sat in the pit lane and the team waiting for over a

lap. Rosberg will have gone through, just passing the start and finish

line. Hamilton will set chase, a fantastic little twist of team

conversation and you can be sure that Lewis Hamilton will want to see

his tyre wear after the race. Please check those tyres. He wants it now,

he is not waiting until after the race, he is saying "tell me where

those tyres are because they felt good. " It is up to the driver and

the team but if the team felt he would be in danger then it was

important to bring him in. We still have a situation where Rosberg leads

this race. Hamilton has just come out of the pits and they are both on

a new set of tyres, the same type of compound, medium compound so it is a

pure race to the flag in the final part of this race. Felipe Massa is

in fifth and at the moment, Bottas and Massa are the same set of tyres

they had on Lap 8 and nine. One radio broadcast we have not heard

but we can read here, Hamilton saying that he thinks it is the

wrong call. But the team gave an instruction that he must box on that

lap. He said he thought it was the wrong call but would come in. Very

interesting situation, Rosberg has just gone fastest of all, a 1:21.3.

When a team mentions a safety in any message, you are playing with a

driver 's mind so they have to back that up now and that is why I think

it will be fascinating if the information comes on the tyres. He

clearly feels he had a bit of life there but in the end, you win

together, lose together, if you trust your team and see some passing

action here. Daniel Ricciardo is catching Felipe Massa on fresh tyres

then the Williams. It gives him a chance but Massa is second on the

speed trap at 365 K PH, 225 mph. It is tough for Ricciardo even though

he has better rubber but there might be other areas he can make the move,

down to Turn 4, he makes a look at it but decides against it. He knows

they have better place in the tighter and twisty sections. But

there is a huge difference between those cars, putting caution to the

wind in terms of temperatures, trying to find a way through. Look

at the difference in acceleration between the Renault hybrid and the

Mercedes. You can see the Williams pulling away as he goes to turn

seven. Hamilton purple and purple in the second sector, he has the bit

between his teeth. He is fired up now, Ricciardo will need one of

these tighter sections to get past the Williams and the Williams has

tyres that 15 laps older, same compound but 15 laps of the, he has

to be struggling in terms of putting the power down. Watch the last

corner here. Taking a tighter line, as close as he has been, he will get

DRS but will it be enough? Mercedes power against Renault power unit and

he is catching on the DRS zone, he is going through the lunch on the

brakes down to Turn 1, side-by-side, Williams against Red Bull, Ricciardo

makes the move, a crucial manoeuvre and up into fourth place, where he

was earlier in this grand pre-, some way behind Daniil Kvyat but Red Bull

ahead of Williams again. Allen a fantastically executed overtake from

some distance back, professional driving from both guys but Daniel

Ricciardo once more showing his skills. Meanwhile, a pass on Perez

getting ahead of Verstappen which has caused a big cheer in the

background. Sergio Perez moving into eighth place. Verstappen able to

pick up the benefit of DRS, benched over the top of that curb and he

leaves the gap but he will have DRS on Perez, was he able to come back

at him at all? The fans loving that. Lewis Hamilton has just done another

fastest lap, four tenths faster than his team-mate but the gap is still

three seconds, a lot of work to do full Lewis Hamilton but a very quick

lap indeed and they are really pushing on. You can see the second

silver arrow, the three-time world champion once this race win in

Mexico but for the moment, Nico Rosberg doing everything he can to

soak up that pressure and so far not making any mistakes. Faultless so

far, we have not seen a lock-up or any missing of the apex. Vettel in

the barrier. He has crashed out of the Ferrari. Turn seven again it

looks like. The fast flowing section. Safety car will presumably

come out. Hit has not been announced but there we go, it is coming out

now. That will bring all the cars together and close them up and that

will be fascinating to see what happens on the restart. OK, I

crashed. Again, turn seven, yeah. Are you OK? I am OK, sorry. A tough

day for Sebastian Vettel. A really low key performance, an

uncharacteristic performance from him and too many mistakes. Three

mistakes, I do not member the last time I saw him do that. Any issues

with the rear stability of the car going into those corners, he has

been trying to work and manage it and work his way back to the points

but a step too far. Interesting that Carlos Sainz made a pit stop because

he was on a relatively fresh set of tyres but they felt they were in a

gap and not losing any time by making the stop. With the safety

car, a full safety car as opposed to virtual. Daniil Kvyat in the pits,

Ericsson as well. Daniil Kvyat making the pit stop, Ricciardo, oath

Red Bull cars going for this pit stop to get a fresh set of tyres to

have a go at the end. Massa getting a chance to neutralise the loss of

tyre life. Bottas has not come in, you will be under a lot of pressure.

But they have gained a position in the pit lane, Daniel Ricciardo still

in front of Massa. Stopping Hulkenberg but Perez has stayed out,

different strategy for Force India, depending on where you were on track

and whether you could come in without losing a position or two.

Hulkenberg has taken advantage, Verstappen has come in and so has

Grosjean. Aye no need for that for the Mercedes, it sets up at -- sets

us up for a fantastic restart. They handled it well in the last race in

Austin so it might be difficult for Hamilton to do anything off the

restart with note DRS available but he will be on the back of the

gearbox. Williams trying to do a lot of laps on a set of tyres but Bottas

will drop back several places down the order, the car of Sebastian

Vettel being hoisted out of the way. A replay of what happened. This time

he locked up on the way into the turn, it looked to straighten

initially and then spun round. Did we lose any places? We would lose to

Verstappen and maybe Grosjean. The trouble is they did stop and they

will be an fresh tyres so I think this will be a difficult last sector

of the race for Perez. We are about to go racing here in Mexico once

again. Rico Rosberg takes control of the race as the safety car is about

to head into the pit lane and we have a fantastic final sector of

this race to come. He has got Hamilton right behind him and has to

choose the moment at which to go. In the stadium section, here we go,

watching them through the last corner and it could be difficult to

get the power down. Rosberg with the advantage, Hamilton looking for a

good exit out of the corner, a demanding corner to come out of,

Rosberg crosses the line, no DRS on the restart but watch out for the

Williams of Bottas in fourth place, he is lining up Daniil Kvyat, I

think he will get third. He is already there as Hamilton goes on to

the attack, onto the breaks into Turn 1, Rosberg ahead, ten two in

third place, Red Bull have lost out there. The Toro Rosso going wide.

Deep into the corner, Sainz, and Rosberg is still in front of

Hamilton. Bottas taking full advantage at the restart, Red Bull

have been pushed back to fourth and fifth with Massa chasing after them

and Hulkenberg and Perez could come under threat from those around them

with fresh tyres. On the call of the safety car coming in, the effect of

that was Rosberg had to budge the field up in the last sector and took

advantage fantastically of the cleaning up through turn 16 and

Hamilton not able to do anything. He will have the wait for DRS to open

up to get the speed advantage in a straight line. Rosberg managing this

race every time a question has been asked, he has answered. Rosberg not

getting away by a huge amount, Bottas has gained from all of this,

he made a later pit stop under the safety car but it has worked well

for the Williams team. Massa is also to be watched because he could close

up to Ricciardo but right now he is under threat from Force India, which

also made a pit stop, that is Nico Hulkenberg. Now it has gone a fully

bonanza has gone off in the stadium section. -- Felipe Nasr. Looking for

a place to park the car, he is looking to drive it. Rosberg has

made a mistake. He has gone off the circuit, questionable as to whether

he gains an advantage. How far behind was Hamilton. He went off

going into the stadium so that is why he was 1.5 seconds behind. In

his quest to stay less than a second behind for DRS, they are pushing but

it seems a little bit of an advantage for Rosberg at the moment.

There has been a trend, when Rosberg has led grand bree, he has done it

well, Monza, Austin last an ad where he made mistakes but... Both Red

Bull cars are vulnerable. Massa is right now protecting his position

from the Force India, both Red Bull cars are right but the other

Williams of Bottas in the twisty section. Daniil Kvyat targeting

behind but the Williams has the better straight-line speed so

difficult to do anything about it. Maybe Ricciardo can pick up a double

toe, the DRS is enabled now but you can see Ricciardo is moving out of

line briefly to get some cooling air into those breaks. That will be

critical, the cars are now liked on fuel and the track is well Robert

in. Hamilton has to get himself into the gap there, he has to get within

one second or less to get the benefit of DRS, matched by Rosberg

in the first sector. See what he can do in the middle. Verstappen in

ninth, an relatively fresh tyres compared to Perez ahead of them.

Perez is an period, he is on 41 lap tyres, he is holding everyone up. It

will be tough for Perez and you wonder why Force India could not

have brought him in, the local hero could end up dropping a massive

number of places but let us what he can do. He is good at looking up --

after his tyres but it is challenging.

A mistake from Maldonado. Good reaction to keep it out of the

wall. He has scored points in the last three Grand Prixs. He loves

living on the edge, I think he does it for his own entertainment. It was

close, how much closer could it have been? Ricciardo still protecting his

position from the Williams of Valtteri Bottas. Just a quick note,

in the race between Toro Rosso and Lotus, only seven points between the

two teams at the moment that they will score similarly here.

Verstappen is currently ninth and head of all of them. RADIO: I know

it is difficult, we need to drag it, the DRS. I think he is aware of

that, as much as anybody. Hamilton the fastest man of all in the middle

sector. He has taken a couple of tenths out of Rosberg this time

round. So far Rosberg hanging on in there, no sign of any mistakes will

stop there are five laps to go. Can Rosberg Coll Donaldson victory? It

has been awhile since the Austrian Grand Prix earlier this year when he

had a victory. He was on a roll at that time but ever since then things

have gone against him. Some of the starts weren't as good and Hamilton

has been absolutely mighty in race conditions. A good lap by Hamilton,

the gap back down to 1.2 seconds. It must be difficult when you see Paddy

Lowe talking to his team. On one hand they just want to manage this,

they want a 1-2. Rosberg has deserved to be in the position he is

in today after qualifying and what he has done in the race so far. On

the other hand, for someone like Paddy, that childhood fan of Formula

1, seeing two cars going wheel-to-wheel, it must be hard to

detach from the team responsible at Ian let their men race. Perez has

done a good job, a lot of laps on these tyres and hanging in there for

the moment. He has done 48 laps. The guys behind, who switched onto the

soft option tyre are struggling. It makes you wonder if they will kick

themselves for that. I think if they had gone for a fresh set of mediums

they may have been able to put Perez under pressure. A good drive from

Perez. He will not get a podium but hanging on for eighth place. Rosberg

response, the fastest lap of the Grand Prix, keeping the gap at 1.4.

RADIO: Ricciardo starting to struggle with his rear tyres, let's

close up on him. I think he is trying that but so far not happening

for him. Hulkenberg only 1.9... Lost a bit Massa on that lap. Hulkenberg

in seventh. Force India looking at a decent double points score. Red

Bull, who are ahead of them in the World Championship, head on the road

as well. What is going on at Mercedes? Are they saying, this is

it? They have some lap traffic to deal with. That might mix things up

a bit. They are catching Will Stevens. In the middle sector, it is

difficult to get a clean pass. Hamilton will be seizing this

opportunity. Watching Bottas but Rosberg is about to get past Will

Stevens. Rossi has moved out of the way. Not a problem for Rosberg.

Rossi ahead of Stevens now. The safety car certainly did swap the

two manner Marussia cars around,. Valtteri Bottas holding on to third

place for the moment and looking to get his second podium finish of the

season, when he surely should have had another one in Russia but for

the incident with Kimi Raikkonen. There are the race leaders, the gap

is 1.2 seconds as they cross the line. Rosberg doing enough to keep

Hamilton out of DRS range. On board with Hamilton, how does this feel

right now from Hamilton's point of view? On one hand you get sucked

along the straights and have the advantage of the car in straight but

in the corners you have a sense of not having the same kind of load.

The wings create that extra weight that pushes the car into the

tarmac. It is incredibly difficult. Grosjean still in 10th place but

Maldonado would quite like a point to continue his point scoring run at

the moment, but he is not close enough. Surely the last thing they

need is to tangle these two. A couple of points for Toro Rosso from

Verstappen but it will not make a huge difference in terms of the gap

that exists between the two teams. Grosjean into his final few races

with this Lotus team before he drives for the American team, where

he will be joined by Esteban Gutierrez. Trading lap times. It

seems like Hamilton might be getting that gap back a little bit to

Rosberg. 1.2 last time round, he did have to pass Rossi. It looked like

Hamilton ran a bit deep into the stadium, losing four tenths of a

second. Rosberg has one hand on the cup. He just has to hang on in there

for an little longer, Nico Rosberg, to take a victory here in Mexico.

Looking down over the fans who will see the top three come to the podium

in that section of track at the end of this race. Right now it looks

like it will be Rosberg, Hamilton and Bottas who will be coming to

waves hello in that part of the track. But let's see what happens,

still a couple of laps to go. Kvyat is still in fourth ahead of

Ricciardo Folsom Massa in sixth place, Hulkenberg seventh ahead of

his team-mate, Sergio Perez Perez staying ahead of Verstappen and

Grosjean but they are getting a bit closer. I am wondering if Perez has

the tyres available to him. I think he is doing enough. Another heroic

effort from him. He has done 51 laps, Sergio Perez, on these medium

tyres. Can he finished the last two and still get some useful points out

of this Grand Prix at home? That would still be a massive reward for

him. He has had so much pressure on him this weekend but dealt with it

superbly. I think he is probably going to sleep for 48 hours after

this weekend. He has been working so hard on the promotional side.

Lapping it up but no question that emotionally and mentally it takes a

lot more out of you when it is your home race. He is a superstar here,

no question of that. Back with our race leader and is looking good. On

the final lap for Nico Rosberg. He started from pole position. He won

the drag race down to the first corner. Put himself in front of

Lewis Hamilton, and has controlled the race ever since. There was a

change of strategy from the team. Hamilton almost decided to stay out

there of his own accord, the team firmly made him come into the pits.

We then had a safety car which seemed to open an opportunity for

Lewis Hamilton but since then Rosberg has driven perfect, just one

little error, but on the same lap Hamilton made a mistake as well. It

has been difficult but so far Rosberg has responded in the best

style he possibly could to having lost his last chance of winning the

World Championship last time out in Austin. He is coming through the

last little sequence of corners now. Rosberg, a brilliant drive here in

Mexico. He is going to come through the last turn, Mansell Corner and

Nico Rosberg takes victory in Mexico! His fourth win of when to

15, his 12th career victory and beats his team-mate Lewis Hamilton,

the new three times world champion by just under two seconds. We wait

now, a long gap, it is Bottas who finishes in third place. Superb

podium for him, after the incident with Raikkonen earlier on. Kvyat

finishes fourth. Ricciardo finishes fifth, Massa six, Hulkenberg seven.

Now listen to the cheer for Perez in eighth. He gets the response from

the crowd. He might not have ended up on the podium but Perez has

delivered a very solid race and are more laps on a set of tyres than

anybody else here today. Verstappen and Grosjean picked up the final

points in ninth and 10th. But Nico Rosberg has done it. He has taken

victory in Mexico. Yeah! Excellent job, Nico, excellent job. It was a

great response. He wasn't knocked down by the victory for Hamilton

last time out and he has come through to take victory here.

Rosberg wins, Hamilton and second, Bottas in third ahead of the two Red

Bull cars of the Viet and Ricciardo Vaz Te top then Massa, Hulkenberg on

Perez. Verstappen in the points yet again for sub Grosjean was tense,

Maldonado just mixed out. Barton had a lonely run and Rossi beat his

team-mate Stevens. We lost Nasr in the closing stages and three World

Cup champions went out. Vettel crashed out on his own, Raikkonen as

a result of an incident with Bottas and Fernando Alonso did not even

make a couple of laps. Nico Rosberg has done it. A race of sheer

pressure, but he managed to hold on for victory. Therein may be lies in

lesson for him. He has carried over some aggressive stance and

frustration from the last race in Boston, where he felt his team-mate

pushed into hard at the first corner. That seems to have inspired

him and every session he has been on the money. A great pole position and

resisted the pressure and now presents himself to the fans. A

thoroughly deserved victory. It was not easy for him. Hamilton, I am

sure, we'll have a few questions for the team in terms of strategy but

you have to acknowledge Nico was absolutely the pacesetter this

weekend. A German driver in the German car. The Silver Arrows take

yet another 1-to finish of the season. It is time to receive the

trophy. The Mexican Grand Prix trophy. After a gap of 23 years

there it is for Nico Rosberg. His father did race here, in that last

Grand Prix. One of his last Grand Prixs, a couple before he finished

his career in 1986. He didn't go on to win the race. Lewis Hamilton

received the trophy for second place. The constructors trophy to

hand over as well. It is a mix up as to who is it in the constructors

trophy and second-place trophy. The constructors trophy for Mercedes.

Valtteri Bottas picks up the award for third place here after a very

solid drive. We were worried about their pit stop and a safety car, it

might have been a bit later than some of the others but the team had

it all sorted. He goes through to finish in third place.

Celebration time here in Mexican city, to the cheers of thousands of

fans in the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez Stadium. Nico Rosberg

soaked up the pressure to finish a commanding victory, beating his

three-time champion team-mate by just under two seconds.

Absolutely phenomenal scenes in the Mercedes garage. Congratulations to

Nico Rosberg, a phenomenal winner today. How important was it that you

owned the start, which you certainly did? Of course, the start is

crucial. Getting into the first corner first is always one of the

most important things. That worked out, everything worked out,

qualifying, race pace, happy. It seems to me you had the bit between

your teeth, back-to-back races, you were on it all weekend. I saw one

mistake. Running wide at turn seven but otherwise flawless? The bit

between my teeth? I tried, I have not changed my approach going

forward. Just attacking and more comfortable this weekend. CHEERING

The safety car restart was a little difficult. CHEERING

This is on the podium as well, fantastic scenes.

In terms of the restart, you are getting quite used to doing those.

When you are in those situations, do you feel any extra pressure because

if you mess it up that's it? The restart, no, as long as I'm able to

get a good restart it is OK. This time it didn't work out so well, so

I wasn't happy with the one today. Talk us through where you were here.

I messed up going into the last one, went a bit wide and that cost me

quite a lot but then it was OK, no problem. What is the pressure like

when you know you are managing that one second window to DRS? Are you

mentally backing off in the middle sector and hitting in the last

sector? I always had one eye on Lewis the whole race. But any time

he tried to get a bit closer I accelerated a bit more. It was all

about managing the stints. I am pleased with the way the race went

in that sense. And that podium. The best podium ever. Thank you to all

the Mexican people, all the support they have given me is awesome, a

Pretty good, I enjoyed it, no stress, unfortunately here, you

cannot follow, it is so hard, I gave it everything I had. I think

ultimately I had more pace but the closer you get, it is like a

negative on a negative. There was nothing I could do. I heard you said

yesterday you were fearing being stuck in the wake of a car in front.

You said no stress, any stress over the pit stop then you are told to

come in? Not real stress, I just did not agree with the decision, that is

all. The team make decisions and I abide by them most of the time. When

you said you wanted to know the feedback on the tyres, have you had

that now, was it the right decision? I have not had the feedback. But

then we had the safety car and then the tyres would have got cool and he

would have been right on my tail with fresh tyres so it is fine but

hopefully we will have a chat when we get back but I have full

confidence in the guise. The world champion looking as relaxed as

anyone, it was interesting he did not come in, could he have got to

the end on those medium tyres? Elima Road the team have information is on

tyre wear, they made the call on safety, I also expect an element of

doing the safe thing here because they had an advantage over third

place, he stayed out lap longer than the team would have liked. He saw an

opportunity he knew Nico had pitted and we saw from Perez, he made it to

the end of the Grand Prix without losing places, based on a Force

India driving on those tyres, he would have been able to drive slower

and save somewhere, in theory it could have been a fantastic move if

he had stayed out. The safety car would have changed things. Yellow

macro we know the safety car came out and it would have been bunched

up again, depending on that, he might been able to pop in and change

tyres and come back out in the lead. Let us look again at the start,

could not get close to Nico and this is where he lost it. It would have

taken Nico to make a really big mistake, we knew it would be

difficult off the dirty side of the track. I expected some incidents but

everyone made it, it was all clean, the only thing we saw with Daniel

Ricciardo brushing Sebastian Vettel. Not a big hit but these tyres seem

susceptible to punctures, rolling the side wall of the wheel but at

this point Lewis knew it would be difficult. A phenomenal weekend for

Mercedes, well deserved? No question about it, you had a feeling that all

the frustration of Texas came to this race and he delivered. Good to

see you are OK, an uncharacteristic race from you, at no point did you

look overly comfortable, would you agree? I had a bad start and I do

not know where Daniel wanted to go but I had a puncture. In the end,

these things happen, it is racing, I wanted the safety car early on but

it did not come, I tried to come back but the two mistakes I did did

not help, the last one stopped the race. It was my mistake so I am not

proud of it. Daniel said you just closed the door, I am sure you have

a different opinion but the steward said no action taken. It is Turn 1,

start of the race, closing the door, he was never really next to me and

then I saw him at the last second and opened but by then it was too

late. I think that is known as just one of those days, shall we relive

that kiss with Daniel Ricciardo on track. I think that is the right

word for the incident, he just tries to get out of it and as he corrects,

he just catches the side of the tyre and that is enough for a puncture,

he got away with it for awhile, it only really deflated at Turn 4.

Massa locking up, Daniel trying to get out of it, do not think I think

it was just a racing incident and quit frustration for Vettel. He did

come round to saying that, not personal, just one of those things

that happen. It set him up for a frustrating race with a multiple

amount of incidents where he was going off and we are not used to

seeing that. This is turn seven, just a straightforward spin, this is

turn 12 at the stadium and on top of the curve, this is passing Maldonado

down into Turn 1 and carries too much speed. The was on the radio to

the team that he was losing the rear tyres. Finally, again at turn seven,

nose first, planting it in the barriers. He was very clear with the

team that it was his mistake and even multiple time world champions

get it wrong sometimes. It has been slippery and that has been

interesting, watching the track evolve. It got so much better as the

race went on but in the end, you cant the winners and that was Nico

Rosberg. A bad day for the best you and Jimmy and Ferrari in general.

Tell us what happened today? I lost the wheel. That is racing, you can

ask many people. To be honest, I was not really surprised. Huge

congratulations to Valtteri Bottas today, it looked busy at that,

plenty of battles and a hard-fought podium but did you feel you've got

great support from the team? As a team we did a really good job today,

every call was exactly right and the later stop was the most important

one, we decided to stop obviously, I was coming in, I had no idea where I

would be and the tyre wear but we did not have the right tyres so a

big thanks to the team. I know Frank loves a racer and you have shown

that racing spirit, you are macro we are getting used to the action with

Kimi, was this payback for Russia? It is nothing personal. Anyone would

have been on my side, I would have tried the same because I saw an

opportunity there and there is no reason it should end up like this.

In a corner like this, there is place and for two cars, especially

when the car outside knows there is someone inside. It is a shame that

it ended like this because it did not have too. Kimi said he was not

surprised it happened, have you fallen out with each other?

Relationship? Of course, we have had a chat sometimes but like I said

before, it is nothing personal. I am here to race hard for every single

position and I am in favour of taking completed risks, I was never

going to back out in that place otherwise everyone would close the

door on me. You must be impressed by the strength of the Williams car. It

was quite a hit so we were lucky as well, we escaped it. A strong car

and a strong team today. Was it a total fluke that it was reminiscent

of Russia? No, it was nothing personal like said, just unlucky

that it was me and Kimi again. Would you have an idea because it was

under investigation but we could not work out if it was for the attempted

pass or for Kimi closing the door, do you have any insight on that? The

stewards had it under investigation, do you know if it was for causing a

collision because of you being there or Kimi closing the door? That is a

good question am I had the right to be there and I am sure he saw me

there so as I said before, there should be space for two cars,

especially when the other one knows there is one inside. I have raced

quite a bit with him and we have had a lot of racing situations so that

was not normal and what I was expecting. A great day for you and

the team, how does it feel to be back on track? Really good, we have

had bad luck lately and it feels like a reward for the hard work

after all of the bad luck we have had. Really pleased with myself and

for the team, we will enjoy this one. Thank you, let us check on

won that but look at Williams in third, 71 points ahead of Red Bull,

consolidating third spot. We are with the home hero, Sergio Perez, my

goodness me, you made up the place from the start but what battles out

there and you had to do it on the one-stop strategy, how tough was

that? One of the toughest races of my career, we were unlucky with the

safety car, things were looking good up to that point, we were aiming for

top five or top six but then we had the safety car. We were thinking we

would overtake Felipe Massa and Nico but we ended up being a few seconds

away so it is something we had to go back with the team and see how we

measure things but in the end, less important is the result, what I have

experienced this weekend will stay with me forever. I feel for you

because the pressure of expectation was not just you, the team but a

whole nation, I'd do not know if you could hear the fans cheering in the

stands. I could see they were getting excited but I was focused on

the race. It was one of the hardest races in my career but it went so

quickly, when I got out of the car, you are exhausted, but today, it was

like it went so quickly, the weekend and I enjoyed it so much. Take us

back to the drivers parade, it was phenomenal to watch, making the

hairs on my arm stand up now. It must have been so special for you,

can you take us through that? The most special lap I have done in my

whole career. So much passion that I could feel, so much love from my

people and I was filming with my mobile because I wanted to record

that moment. When I have my kids, I want to show my family and to the

people around me because what I have lived today has been unbelievable.

Out of control, I am a lucky driver and a lucky person because only very

few drivers in the world have experienced what I have today. Stay
