Previously on Formula 1. Hamilton wins. An accident! Incredible. | :00:07. | :00:25.
Fantastic show, guys. Race 16. Boston, USA. | :00:26. | :00:28.
It has been 42 years since Jackie Stewart won his third World | :00:29. | :01:30.
Championship, he is the only British driver to have won the treble, so | :01:31. | :01:32.
far. Stewart holds the line and it is | :01:33. | :01:41.
almost a dead heat. Nobody had ever seen the finish of a motor race like | :01:42. | :01:43.
that. I was very proud to have done that | :01:44. | :01:58.
and then would like to think in a little way that they hope Lewis | :01:59. | :02:04.
might be as proud as I felt. Jackie Stewart is the new world champion on | :02:05. | :02:09.
Formula 1. I like to see him in a car, he sits in a car well, looks | :02:10. | :02:16.
like a cosy week kit -- cosy we cockpit. Great natural talent. Good | :02:17. | :02:25.
car control. Sometimes overdrive is. By winning his next World | :02:26. | :02:32.
Championship he might back off a little bit, if he does that, he | :02:33. | :02:37.
might go faster and he might earn a lot more World Championships. One of | :02:38. | :02:42.
the great drives at Silverstone, Lewis Hamilton wins the British | :02:43. | :02:46.
Grand Prix. And the boyhood dream comes true for Lewis Hamilton. His | :02:47. | :02:52.
first world championship was very iffy towards the end, could have | :02:53. | :02:58.
gone either way. 2008 Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton! The | :02:59. | :03:05.
second world championship. Lewis Hamilton is the 2014 world champion. | :03:06. | :03:12.
World champion! My God, can believe it, thank you so much, guys. | :03:13. | :03:18.
Sometimes I think he is a little bit aggressive when he might not need to | :03:19. | :03:23.
be but on the other hand that is why he has popped out in front of his | :03:24. | :03:28.
team-mate. They go side-by-side with Hamilton but Hamilton just able to | :03:29. | :03:32.
fend him off. I think he has matured very well, he has delivered | :03:33. | :03:38.
extremely well, he made a decision to go to Mercedes-Benz exactly on | :03:39. | :03:41.
the right time, it was his decision and nobody else's. The right | :03:42. | :03:48.
decisions at the right time. It is true all of us who have won multiple | :03:49. | :03:52.
world champion, it is not always to do with our driving. Fantastic show, | :03:53. | :03:59.
flawless all weekend, as always. I hope he wins on Sunday, I would like | :04:00. | :04:06.
to share that with him. What a truly magical season this is turning into | :04:07. | :04:07.
for Lewis Hamilton. Well the champagne before and for | :04:08. | :04:16.
Lewis Hamilton today? Tank you for joining us at the circuit of the | :04:17. | :04:19.
Americas in Austin, Texas at what has become an extraordinary weekend | :04:20. | :04:24.
for Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton gets his first opportunity to become a | :04:25. | :04:28.
triple world champion, to join Sir Jackie Stewart but the adverts | :04:29. | :04:31.
weather conditions really have caused all manner of problems. They | :04:32. | :04:37.
have and the changing weather looks like and will play a part, the first | :04:38. | :04:42.
time we have seen some weekend. Our whole wide range of strategies that | :04:43. | :04:47.
could be played out. Turning out to be a controversial Austin Grand | :04:48. | :04:52.
Prix. Sessions have had to be cancelled, we had to run qualifying | :04:53. | :04:55.
this morning and in qualifying, QC was cancelled. The amount of | :04:56. | :05:02.
standing water. -- Q3 was cancelled. The cars couldn't deal with the | :05:03. | :05:07.
water on the racetrack. Qualifying did eventually take place, we are | :05:08. | :05:12.
about to start the Grand Prix and the conditions look like they will | :05:13. | :05:15.
dry up. The sun is about to come out. On behalf of Iain Lewers on | :05:16. | :05:19.
track this weekend, he looks sublime. He has had an incredible | :05:20. | :05:24.
year, got on top of the year is that he had in qualifying last year. This | :05:25. | :05:29.
year has been a different story together and has tried to hang in | :05:30. | :05:34.
there but Lewis has just had the upper hand. | :05:35. | :05:49.
the Silver Arrows are kings of the Constructors' Championship. They | :05:50. | :06:03.
clinched the title in Russia a fortnight ago. | :06:04. | :06:08.
As we were talking about, the weather has been all over the place | :06:09. | :06:15.
as the sun peeks through the clouds but qualifying this morning was a | :06:16. | :06:16.
very damp affair. Carlos Sainz put his car on the | :06:17. | :06:22.
white line in qualifying which meant no grip and no chance, he hit the | :06:23. | :06:26.
barriers and are hoping his team can get his Toro Rosso ready in time for | :06:27. | :06:31.
the race. Valtteri Bottas was one of many drivers who lost control in Q2, | :06:32. | :06:35.
the rain fell heavier and the finish rider failed to reach the final | :06:36. | :06:40.
session of qualifying for only the second time this year. Sebastian | :06:41. | :06:46.
Vettel did this in Q1. He got out in time and managed to get into Q2. | :06:47. | :06:51.
Nico Rosberg had gone quicker than Lewis Hamilton in that session and | :06:52. | :06:55.
as the rain worsened conditions were deemed too dangerous to work so | :06:56. | :06:59.
there wasn't a top ten shoot out on the grid was shaped on how it | :07:00. | :07:03.
finished in Q2, meaning Rosberg took his third consecutive pole position. | :07:04. | :07:07.
Lewis Hamilton will not mind Rosberg in front, the two times he has won | :07:08. | :07:13.
on the circuit he has darted from second. | :07:14. | :07:20.
The first time both Force India cars have started on that role since | :07:21. | :07:26.
rain. David, those penalties for Ferrari | :07:27. | :08:06.
only add to help Lewis, but how important is it to get pole position | :08:07. | :08:11.
here? Lewis has won from pole position -- second position twice. | :08:12. | :08:18.
When it comes to wheel-to-wheel action, Lewis has more often than | :08:19. | :08:22.
not, on top against Nico Rosberg, the thing that should support Nico | :08:23. | :08:29.
is that it makes it damp and it makes it difficult for Lewis to find | :08:30. | :08:33.
a way past. The track is drying out and you get a dry mind quite quickly | :08:34. | :08:36.
out here. The overall track temperature has been quite low and | :08:37. | :08:42.
that will mean it will take longer than we would have seen in the | :08:43. | :08:45.
past, that said, we have been watching some of the mechanics | :08:46. | :08:48.
trying their pet boxes and they have done it quickly, we have got to | :08:49. | :08:51.
imagine they will be getting onto slicks. Do you think the key is | :08:52. | :08:57.
getting the timing right from going from wets to intermediates. That is | :08:58. | :09:03.
the key, something that is so random, one lap can make the | :09:04. | :09:05.
difference between getting it right and wrong and it is making that | :09:06. | :09:10.
decision at Petain. There will be some real opportunity. Even somebody | :09:11. | :09:14.
like Ferrari could come through. We can hear from Tom in the pit | :09:15. | :09:22.
lane. Before I talk about strategy, a quick word about two drivers, | :09:23. | :09:25.
Carlos Sainz is in his car ready to take to the grid after his crash in | :09:26. | :09:29.
Q1, Toro Rosso have to replace the front end but that is OK. Valtteri | :09:30. | :09:34.
Bottas has a new gearbox but he will be OK as well. What about strategy, | :09:35. | :09:40.
sunshine, strong tail wind down the pit straight, the conditions now, if | :09:41. | :09:43.
we have no more rain before the start are for an intermediate tyres | :09:44. | :09:48.
start and then it is going to be a case of getting the dry tyres on as | :09:49. | :09:52.
quickly as possible and making as you stops as possible to the end of | :09:53. | :09:58.
the race. Looks like it will be starting an intermediates, let's get | :09:59. | :09:59.
the scene on the grid. Lewis on the cusp of winning three | :10:00. | :10:06.
World Championship, you know something about that stop | :10:07. | :10:10.
significant for a driver? It certainly has but be careful today, | :10:11. | :10:14.
it will be a difficult race, they will start on intermediates, who | :10:15. | :10:18.
takes first chance to go on slicks? They might win the race, they might | :10:19. | :10:22.
go all the way as well. Lewis has to be careful but he has the chance to | :10:23. | :10:28.
win, let's wait and see. You just did your lap to get onto the grid, | :10:29. | :10:32.
how much standing water was there? Not too bad, no obvious rivers, | :10:33. | :10:38.
nothing to be concerned about. I assume we will do our normal race | :10:39. | :10:43.
start, go on the intermediates and if this weather stays with the wind, | :10:44. | :10:46.
we will put on slicks at some point. You could have a great afternoon | :10:47. | :10:48.
today. Could be a lot of fun. Good skills in qualifying, how was | :10:49. | :10:57.
your car on intermediates because you have not had much experience on | :10:58. | :11:02.
those? I don't know, we did one lap on Friday morning, seemed OK now, | :11:03. | :11:07.
usually we are stronger on the fool wets, a bit of a shame that it dried | :11:08. | :11:10.
up and I like the full wet conditions more but that is what it | :11:11. | :11:14.
is and we have to race like this. You have to make the final: | :11:15. | :11:17.
Crossover Button terms of lap time, what did we looking at? We have some | :11:18. | :11:25.
numbers in our head, but all the other cars around but on Friday it | :11:26. | :11:30.
took time for the track to dry up but today, a bit of sunshine, strong | :11:31. | :11:35.
gusts, so I feel like we will be onto slicks quite soon. Having a | :11:36. | :11:42.
look at the grand, your engineer saying no rain expected, when the | :11:43. | :11:45.
think the time will be to switch over to the slicks? On Friday it | :11:46. | :11:55.
took a while to go to dry tyres. Although it was raining and the cars | :11:56. | :12:01.
are running, you would think it is the most critical part of the race | :12:02. | :12:04.
to make sure we go on to the slicks at the right time because you can | :12:05. | :12:08.
gain a lot and was a lot. You have proved you are good in these | :12:09. | :12:10.
conditions, looking forward to this one? I hope we can enjoy the race | :12:11. | :12:14.
and everything goes according to plan and we should be strong. | :12:15. | :12:20.
Another strong performance in qualifying, really difficult | :12:21. | :12:25.
conditions but operate for the race? For sure not so much running | :12:26. | :12:29.
yesterday so very happy with qualifying, we have quite a good car | :12:30. | :12:33.
and we have dizzy with the intermediates but it will be very | :12:34. | :12:36.
interesting. Does it put you under pressure that you have qualifying | :12:37. | :12:42.
and the race in the same day? It is like S3, so it brings back old | :12:43. | :12:43.
memories. -- for military. Nine of these drivers have had any | :12:44. | :12:56.
dry running this weekend but the big question is, can Batman, can Lewis | :12:57. | :13:03.
Hamilton make this the land of the three -- can Batman. This is the | :13:04. | :13:22.
Lewis Hamilton's opportunity to earn his third world title lies before | :13:23. | :13:40.
him in Austin, he starts on the right-hand side as we look at it, | :13:41. | :13:44.
Nico Rosberg has the controlling position from pole position but | :13:45. | :13:47.
plenty of space heading up towards the first corner to make something | :13:48. | :13:51.
happen. Very long hold. What's going on here? Ready to go now, the red | :13:52. | :13:58.
lights come on, lights out and away legal, Rosberg against Hamilton, | :13:59. | :14:01.
even start, Ricciardo going with them but Hamilton has the chance to | :14:02. | :14:05.
get up the inside, he has got the chance, Rosberg trying to go | :14:06. | :14:09.
wheel-to-wheel, they run why, Rosberg is pushed out, that might | :14:10. | :14:13.
give the Red Bulls a chance to join in, Rosberg squeezed down to fourth | :14:14. | :14:17.
place, Hamilton worked that to his advantage. The Russian has gone into | :14:18. | :14:24.
second ahead of Ricciardo and Rosberg is back in fifth, been | :14:25. | :14:27.
passed by Perez and chased by Hulkenberg. That is what desperation | :14:28. | :14:33.
will do, he tried as the litter hang on to that position on the run-in | :14:34. | :14:35.
turn on and Hamilton on the racing line. Really up against it, the Red | :14:36. | :14:44.
Bulls are right on Hamilton's tail. Yellow flag, must have been an | :14:45. | :14:48.
incident in the first sector. Hamilton going a bit defensive early | :14:49. | :14:51.
on, he will have his mind on making his tyres last the distance. The | :14:52. | :14:55.
offset on straight lines be between the Mercedes and the Red Bull but | :14:56. | :14:59.
they will pick up on the slipstream. Daniil Kvyat, the Russian is going | :15:00. | :15:04.
for it, he has never let a Grand Prix, not in a situation like this. | :15:05. | :15:08.
He's going wheel-to-wheel with somebody like Hamilton. Rosberg | :15:09. | :15:13.
going round the outside. He has got past Perez. Jenson Button fantastic | :15:14. | :15:21.
start. Battling the Sebastian Vettel, who has also started well. | :15:22. | :15:36.
Try to get past Ricardo. I'm not sure, he will be coming around in | :15:37. | :15:40.
that position but a long way back. He went very wait between 17 and 18. | :15:41. | :15:44.
That has allowed Rosberg to catch up. They have got some dry line as | :15:45. | :15:49.
it comes through the second last turn and they can use that just to | :15:50. | :15:55.
stabilise the car. Verstappen has had a better first lap. RADIO: | :15:56. | :15:59.
Puncher. Puncture. Two punchers. They could | :16:00. | :16:10.
have tangled. They were similar places on the grid and we have to | :16:11. | :16:14.
look at the replays. Front wing for Bottas. He is in for the change and | :16:15. | :16:21.
it is never easy, could have been involved, Sauber in trouble as well, | :16:22. | :16:25.
he has lost his front wing. Further contact. Felipe Nasr with damage to | :16:26. | :16:32.
the front end, Bottas putting slick tyres on, that will be interesting, | :16:33. | :16:37.
he will be the first to switch onto the slicks. Looks a little bit too | :16:38. | :16:41.
early for the next couple of laps. Sauber on Sauber. The worst scenario | :16:42. | :16:47.
for a team when two drivers come together. Contact made between them | :16:48. | :16:53.
and we have had several pet visitors, Alexander Rossi, the | :16:54. | :16:56.
American, has had to come in for a pit stop, whether that is for damage | :16:57. | :17:01.
as well, we're not sure. Bottas going on those slicks, not a lot of | :17:02. | :17:07.
standing water but a lot of spray so he will really struggle initially | :17:08. | :17:11.
but he will be in the test case for every other team to see at what | :17:12. | :17:15.
point he starts getting closer. Writing in making a move on Button | :17:16. | :17:19.
in the background, the Ferrari sloping past the McLaren, which is | :17:20. | :17:23.
also now being chased by Carlos Sainz, coming from the back, good | :17:24. | :17:26.
effort from Carlos Sainz and stayed out of trouble where several cars | :17:27. | :17:31.
have picked up punctures. Having a go down the inside, should be able | :17:32. | :17:35.
to complete the manoeuvre, he has. Carlos Sainz up into 10th, 11th | :17:36. | :17:42.
place now. Great effort, starting from the very back of the field and | :17:43. | :17:46.
Vettel is also picking up places and attacking Hulkenberg, that is | :17:47. | :17:52.
Alexander Rossi. No, is it going to end this early for the American? | :17:53. | :17:56.
Problem with the right rear, on board with Vettel. Eating pressure | :17:57. | :18:03.
on Hulkenberg. Not as comfortable in the intermediate conditions. | :18:04. | :18:07.
Rosberg, surprisingly dropping back from the back of the Red Bulls. | :18:08. | :18:12.
Vettel trying to move his way back of the order. Kvyat fastest on | :18:13. | :18:18.
everybody, lots of debris. I'm surprised the race Derek hasn't put | :18:19. | :18:21.
the safety car to clear that debris. -- the race director. Carbon fibre | :18:22. | :18:30.
is very sharp. There might be debris on Turn 1. | :18:31. | :18:35.
Just looking in the pits, Stevens is in trouble in the Marussia, the car | :18:36. | :18:42.
being pushed away as Felipe Nasr has had a new front wing fitted but it | :18:43. | :18:47.
was Will Stevens's car that was being pushed away and Alexander | :18:48. | :18:52.
Rossi is still out there. Hamilton got away pretty well off the line. | :18:53. | :18:56.
That's what allowed him to get on the inside of Rosberg Rosberg just | :18:57. | :19:00.
had to try to run it out the outside and then Hamilton absolutely on the | :19:01. | :19:04.
limit and that is what we didn't see, Alonso going around and who | :19:05. | :19:10.
else was he involved with? The initial getaway that Hamilton really | :19:11. | :19:18.
taste, the Red Bulls, great performance. Watch the middle pack. | :19:19. | :19:23.
Fernando Alonso just got smacked by Felipe Massa. Just a pure racing | :19:24. | :19:30.
incident, no malice in that at all, just unfortunate. They all ran cold | :19:31. | :19:38.
into the first corner. That was actually a textbook intermediate | :19:39. | :19:42.
start, no wheel spin but his initial reaction was not as good and there | :19:43. | :19:48.
is the little team-mates's case to say this is my corner. Is that | :19:49. | :19:53.
justifiable? Is that within the bounds? Absolutely, Hamilton was | :19:54. | :19:58.
running the braking zone, I don't think there was no driving off the | :19:59. | :20:01.
circuit malice. You see the initial getaway, just to sit up and by the | :20:02. | :20:06.
time that momentum carries him into the first corner, this is clearly | :20:07. | :20:12.
Hamilton's corner, Rosberg, fair play for having a go but Hamilton is | :20:13. | :20:17.
on the limit. They touch. That is where Rosberg paid the penalty for | :20:18. | :20:20.
him taking the gamble and running wheel-to-wheel with Hamilton. | :20:21. | :20:26.
Unfortunately for him, this is history repeating itself, every time | :20:27. | :20:28.
they go wheel-to-wheel, Hamilton comes out in front and then all hell | :20:29. | :20:32.
breaks loose in the middle of the pack. Massa was involved in that. | :20:33. | :20:38.
Bottas with the slicks, presumably, getting well out of the way. Just no | :20:39. | :20:45.
grip. The team, I guess, they have chosen to go with the slicks early. | :20:46. | :20:50.
It is just not there at the moment. Look at the way that Hamilton, still | :20:51. | :20:56.
being hounded by Daniil Kvyat. Great stuff from Kvyat, staying in touch | :20:57. | :21:00.
with Lewis Hamilton. Felipe Nasr has been back into the pits to swap onto | :21:01. | :21:04.
intermediates. Hamilton looks like he is burning and his rear tyres, | :21:05. | :21:08.
the car is snaking around as he goes through some of the medium speed | :21:09. | :21:14.
turns, you can see at an traction. Doesn't seem too bad on the traction | :21:15. | :21:19.
phase but when he is loading the rear axle the car sliding around and | :21:20. | :21:22.
as we have discussed before, when you start working the wheel, you | :21:23. | :21:28.
take away the downforce and a new compound the difficulties you have. | :21:29. | :21:32.
Kvyat getting himself on the into position where he could pass | :21:33. | :21:36.
Hamilton. Let's keep an eye on that. Keep an eye on Carlos Sainz in | :21:37. | :21:43.
your, in 10th place. Kammy Raikonnen sparking away. Maximum download and | :21:44. | :21:50.
Raikonnen himself is also trying to get past Hulkenberg and Hulkenberg | :21:51. | :21:52.
is trying to defend that place, round the outside comes the Ferrari | :21:53. | :21:56.
and watch out from behind, Carlos Sainz might be able to take | :21:57. | :21:59.
advantage of both of these guys, Raikonnen gets past the Force India | :22:00. | :22:04.
and Carlos Sainz goes down the inside. And I think he has pulled | :22:05. | :22:08.
that manoeuvre off beautifully, Hulkenberg had to give way in the | :22:09. | :22:11.
end. Virtual safety car has been called, the leaders have slowed down | :22:12. | :22:15.
and they were very close to one another, this means that we will not | :22:16. | :22:19.
see the safety car on track, they have to drive to a predetermined | :22:20. | :22:25.
slower speed and no overtaking is allowed. They will be monitoring | :22:26. | :22:30.
that speed. Will anybody behind them decide to go into the pits at this | :22:31. | :22:35.
point? Based on Bottas's times, it doesn't look like the opportunity is | :22:36. | :22:39.
there. Going into Turn 1, we missed this. Kvyat getting a past on and | :22:40. | :22:44.
then Hamilton came back at him before the safety car came out. | :22:45. | :22:49.
Hamilton struggling with the tyres, gives him an opportunity to try to | :22:50. | :22:52.
cool the intermediate to look out for that -- how far back he was able | :22:53. | :22:58.
to come from but not stay on the racing line. Good effort from Kvyat, | :22:59. | :23:03.
but did not quite come off. Bottas coming in to retire, all over for | :23:04. | :23:08.
the Williams driver, had a new gearbox for the race but involved in | :23:09. | :23:12.
a few bits and pieces and it is all over, I'm afraid. Virtual safety car | :23:13. | :23:17.
is ending and the race gets underway once again and Lewis Hamilton | :23:18. | :23:21.
launches himself. Rosberg has got past Ricciardo, Rosberg has taken | :23:22. | :23:25.
full advantage of the safety car ending and as long as he did it | :23:26. | :23:29.
after they got the signal that is OK but Ricciardo presumably caught | :23:30. | :23:34.
napping, so Hamilton leads, Kvyat in second place, Rosberg is up to | :23:35. | :23:44.
third, Ricciardo up there in force. Still difficult to judge conditions, | :23:45. | :23:47.
Rosberg having a much better turn into turn 12 as they head down the | :23:48. | :23:53.
next section, turn 11 Onto The St, with a big bumps. Kvyat will be a | :23:54. | :23:58.
sitting duck with the speed of Mercedes. Here comes Rosberg. Much | :23:59. | :24:03.
faster then a straight line, 11 miles an hour the difference in | :24:04. | :24:07.
qualifying. Hamilton Mike Grella that he held the pack up and went | :24:08. | :24:12.
slower, -- Hamilton might regret that he held the pack up, as was his | :24:13. | :24:18.
want. He has actually given an advantage. RADIO: You will | :24:19. | :24:30.
double-check. Was it done, did Rosberg do it at the right moment | :24:31. | :24:36.
did he time it perfectly? Let's have a look at the restart with a virtual | :24:37. | :24:42.
safety car. Interesting, he kind of backed off and then went for it, of | :24:43. | :24:48.
question at what point the pooled the virtual safety car. Can we read | :24:49. | :24:54.
anything. Whether that is their signal to say it has gone, if it is, | :24:55. | :24:59.
then that was sharp move from Nico, would be easier for us all if they | :25:00. | :25:03.
just restarted the race from the start-finish line. It just throws | :25:04. | :25:08.
another aspect which is difficult for us to follow and explain to the | :25:09. | :25:14.
viewers at home. Grosjean has not looked like a very tasty pit stop. | :25:15. | :25:20.
They are putting him on to the skateboard to take him back into the | :25:21. | :25:24.
pits. Kvyat having a look at the inside of Rosberg, has he gone to | :25:25. | :25:29.
wide? Ricciardo comes back. Almost side-by-side with his own team it | :25:30. | :25:32.
and Ricciardo has the chance to slot in behind. Look out for Daniel in | :25:33. | :25:38.
the braking zone, but decides to go safe but ten out of ten for having a | :25:39. | :25:42.
go, Rosberg goes wide. Ricciardo goes to second, he makes the move | :25:43. | :25:46.
and Rosberg will be kicking himself having lost the position. RADIO: Not | :25:47. | :25:56.
see it coming back onto the track. Complaining about Kvyat but what | :25:57. | :25:59.
affected him more than that is that Ricciardo has gone past him. | :26:00. | :26:02.
Ricciardo chases after Lewis Hamilton. You have to come back on | :26:03. | :26:08.
the circuit that if you are aware of that, you are a competitor, there is | :26:09. | :26:14.
not a handbook about the exit to that corner, clearly just | :26:15. | :26:19.
distracted. Bobridge in moment, down the inside, carries too much speed, | :26:20. | :26:23.
runs off the circuit, let's just watch this. I'm sorry, I don't | :26:24. | :26:29.
agree, there was nothing dangerous about that at all, he past you fair | :26:30. | :26:33.
and square, he took the consequence for being overoptimistic and that | :26:34. | :26:38.
the point he comes back on, you have already reacted to it which is | :26:39. | :26:42.
understandable. You saw what was happening, as did Ricciardo, it is | :26:43. | :26:47.
just what happens in racing. Absolutely, Kvyat could not have | :26:48. | :26:51.
anything different, had ago, didn't work and put the car back on and the | :26:52. | :26:54.
best possible place but Rosberg just made a mistake. We have to assume, | :26:55. | :26:58.
we don't know when the radio message was played. The frustration took | :26:59. | :27:03.
away his concentration and he made a mistake will stop writing is still | :27:04. | :27:10.
battling with Verstappen. RADIO: Wider, I don't get the DRS. We will | :27:11. | :27:20.
check for performance. He has just been passed by the other Toro Rosso | :27:21. | :27:25.
Carlos Sainz. Carlos Sainz has taken full advantage of that and gone past | :27:26. | :27:30.
the Ferrari as he is struggling, apparently with DRS, behind them is | :27:31. | :27:35.
Hulkenberg. Not having the same race as his team-mate, Perez. After the | :27:36. | :27:41.
earlier problems, he is down in 10th place. Meanwhile, Ricciardo, the | :27:42. | :27:48.
fastest man of all and 0.5 seconds behind Hamilton as he crossed the | :27:49. | :27:52.
line, getting himself hooked up and difficult to run in the dirty air of | :27:53. | :27:56.
the car in front but this really trying to stay within the DRS on. | :27:57. | :28:01.
Kvyat has dropped out of the group. With Ricciardo. See how close you | :28:02. | :28:07.
can get a Hamilton, the tyres started to struggle, getting close | :28:08. | :28:10.
to the point where people will make the crossover to slicks. The | :28:11. | :28:14.
straight line speed advantage of Hamilton. OK on the acceleration of | :28:15. | :28:21.
this turn. Why show some racing cars on the circuit when you can show a | :28:22. | :28:30.
man in the pit lane. Anyway. DRS wide-open for Daniel. That will keep | :28:31. | :28:34.
them within touch of Hamilton. That is all it does because he hasn't got | :28:35. | :28:38.
the straight-line speed. He had to find somewhere else around to | :28:39. | :28:41.
overtake but there are a few opportunities. We all know how tough | :28:42. | :28:45.
Hamilton will be to pass, fighting to try to wrap up the World | :28:46. | :28:47.
Championship in the United States, back on board with Timmy Raikkonen, | :28:48. | :28:53.
still battling the Carlos Sainz -- Kimi Raikkonen. Carlos Sainz bank | :28:54. | :28:59.
behind him. As full says you would want to be. Great battle going on | :29:00. | :29:04.
here. Fantastic to see one of the most experienced drivers in writing | :29:05. | :29:09.
and mixing it with two of the least experienced, good example if you are | :29:10. | :29:13.
good enough you are old enough and if you are good enough, you are not | :29:14. | :29:17.
too old. Still they are with Carlos Sainz chasing after the Ferrari. | :29:18. | :29:21.
Look at the way the Ferrari moves around. That is where Raikonnen | :29:22. | :29:25.
struggled last time around as well, very wide out onto the care and not | :29:26. | :29:31.
able to get quick close enough to the Toro Rosso in front. Carlos will | :29:32. | :29:36.
get a better drive of the last time. Ricciardo having another go to get | :29:37. | :29:40.
past Hamilton, almost, I wonder how close he was before we picked that | :29:41. | :29:44.
up. He was almost alongside as we picked it up on the exit of turn on. | :29:45. | :29:49.
Perfect opportunity to stay with this lead battle and follow the | :29:50. | :29:53.
action, a lot of other action happening through the pack, but this | :29:54. | :29:58.
is where all eyes will be. Hamilton doesn't need to win this Grand Prix | :29:59. | :30:02.
to win the championship, just as dementia he has enough points over | :30:03. | :30:07.
his team-mate, Rosberg. -- he just has to make sure. | :30:08. | :30:47.
Max Verstappen holds. But Ricciardo can sense a real opportunity here | :30:48. | :31:00.
today. Max Verstappen holds somehow they both get away with it. Daniel | :31:01. | :31:14.
Ricciardo has found the space. Now, how do the Mercedes react? He used | :31:15. | :31:19.
that tighter section of the last part of the lap. The question is, | :31:20. | :31:25.
can he get enough of the gap to not be attacked under DRS on the back | :31:26. | :31:30.
stretch? Just able to hold a much tighter line through that long 16, | :31:31. | :31:37.
1718. As they come towards 19, he has got the track position. Hamilton | :31:38. | :31:43.
going round, he just gets slightly off that wider line. You see him | :31:44. | :31:49.
working the wheel, almost slick tyres. That was a brilliant pass by | :31:50. | :31:57.
Ricciardo. We have not seen many overtakes partly due to the | :31:58. | :32:01.
conditions but he has gone through and Red Bull lead the race. Look at | :32:02. | :32:05.
this, Hamilton and Rosberg side-by-side at the end of the | :32:06. | :32:09.
straight. Ricciardo still leads but Rosberg was right there with him. | :32:10. | :32:16.
Heap at the handbrake on. Again you can see his tyres getting towards | :32:17. | :32:26.
the end of their life, the intermediates. Has he managed to | :32:27. | :32:31.
maintain the momentum? I think he has. He's just passed a four-time | :32:32. | :32:36.
world champion down at turn 11. Absolutely brilliant. Can he hold it | :32:37. | :32:43.
there? That is the question. He has got DRS because he was the 1 in | :32:44. | :32:46.
front and that has worked perfectly for him. Oh no, Max Verstappen has | :32:47. | :32:56.
run wide, what a shame. It's back to Max Verstappen against Raikkonen | :32:57. | :32:59.
again. Raikkonen sees an opportunity here coming into this twisty section | :33:00. | :33:06.
down into 15. Again Max Verstappen taking that shallow defensive line. | :33:07. | :33:12.
Into this long treble corner. He gets wide. This is where Daniel | :33:13. | :33:18.
Ricciardo passed Hamilton. Max Verstappen able to bring this car | :33:19. | :33:23.
back towards the racing line. Carlos Sainz might have a look, but he | :33:24. | :33:30.
decides against it. Moving off the dry line, we saw the impact. Another | :33:31. | :33:34.
fastest lap for Daniel Ricciardo, let's listen in. | :33:35. | :33:41.
RADIO: OK Daniel, we dictate when we stop. They are really looking after | :33:42. | :33:46.
the tyres as well. Kimi Raikkonen now well-placed again. He is in a | :33:47. | :33:51.
Toro Rosso sandwich here right now between these two youngsters. Next | :33:52. | :33:56.
year it's quite possible the Toro Rosso team will be running Ferrari | :33:57. | :34:00.
engine. That is an interesting little slander on what is going on | :34:01. | :34:05.
at the moment. Max Verstappen showing us what a brilliant talent | :34:06. | :34:12.
he is, and Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen was the fastest through | :34:13. | :34:14.
the speed trap Indians immediate point. He gained a huge amount | :34:15. | :34:21.
there. We know that Jenson Button has gone to the slicks. He has made | :34:22. | :34:28.
that work in the past. Rosberg having a go at getting passed | :34:29. | :34:34.
Hamilton. Can he hold on? Yes he will. They will still be | :34:35. | :34:38.
side-by-side in to turn 13. You would think they would have to give | :34:39. | :34:42.
each other space, as team-mates, but Hamilton has shown he can be | :34:43. | :34:46.
aggressive. Rosberg has gone past him, we don't see that often, | :34:47. | :34:51.
Rosberg fighting his way past Lewis Hamilton. Who will blink first four | :34:52. | :34:57.
tyres? It is going to be Hamilton in first. Kvyat chasing down the other | :34:58. | :35:03.
Mercedes because Rosberg will have to stay out. Hamilton would have got | :35:04. | :35:08.
choice because he was ahead. He has lost a couple of seconds on the in | :35:09. | :35:14.
lap and that can be crucial. He will be early on to slicks for these | :35:15. | :35:21.
guys. We haven't seen him complete a sector yet. Hamilton going on to the | :35:22. | :35:25.
soft, slick tyre and on his way once again. Is he still going to win the | :35:26. | :35:30.
championship today? It is all wide open on this point. Vettel has come | :35:31. | :35:38.
in and so has Max Verstappen. It will be interesting to see how they | :35:39. | :35:43.
get on. A big lock up there. It looks to me that it is still maybe a | :35:44. | :35:51.
lap early for these tyres. At this point Hamilton would be quicker on | :35:52. | :35:55.
the intermediates. Eriksen has gone fastest in the middle sector. Is he | :35:56. | :36:02.
on the soft tyres? He is. The first sector still looks a bit damp. Keep | :36:03. | :36:08.
an eye on Button's times. You have him coming across the line any time | :36:09. | :36:11.
soon and that will just confirm where we're. It looks like Daniel | :36:12. | :36:15.
Ricciardo might react to this next time around. Magnus Eriksen has just | :36:16. | :36:20.
gone fastest in the final sector. Hamilton has to capitalise if he's | :36:21. | :36:28.
going to stay in front of his team-mate, Rosberg. All the evidence | :36:29. | :36:37.
is there now, you have got Ericsson delivering the time is now. DRS in | :36:38. | :36:44.
effect and that was Hamilton just riding with those tyres. We have | :36:45. | :36:51.
said many times that Hamilton just instinctively knows wheel to wheel. | :36:52. | :36:59.
Let's see if Ricciardo comes in on this lap. I think he is probably | :37:00. | :37:05.
going to head into the pits... Yes, Ricciardo is in. The race leader is | :37:06. | :37:10.
into the pits. Red Bull go to work and put the slick tyres on and away | :37:11. | :37:15.
he goes. Slight delay. Kvyat is coming in on the same lap. Is this | :37:16. | :37:20.
the perfect lap? This will be interesting. Hamilton, the point at | :37:21. | :37:25.
which his team decided to bring him in. Look for Hamilton in the | :37:26. | :37:29.
background, just coming round the last corner now. Where will everyone | :37:30. | :37:34.
come out at the end of it. Hamilton is at full speed heading down the | :37:35. | :37:39.
straight here. These guys will struggle to stop the car with the | :37:40. | :37:40.
braking. Kvyat sliding on the struggle to stop the car with the | :37:41. | :37:47.
tyres. Hamilton trying to go around the outside on his heated tyres but | :37:48. | :37:52.
it didn't work for him, he actually lost time as a result. It's worked | :37:53. | :37:57.
well for Ricciardo but not so well for Hamilton. He now finds himself | :37:58. | :38:02.
behind Rosberg and Kvyat. The damage was done when he was battling with | :38:03. | :38:07.
Rosberg on his in lap. He went from half a second in front to at least a | :38:08. | :38:10.
second and a half behind and that can be critical. As Jenson Button | :38:11. | :38:16.
does the fastest lap in the Grand Prix. And all because he chose | :38:17. | :38:20.
slicks when he did. As ever, he has chosen well. Oh! There goes | :38:21. | :38:28.
Raikkonen! This will be a safety car if he can't get it going. Can he | :38:29. | :38:33.
drive it out of the barrier? That is his rallying experience coming in, | :38:34. | :38:38.
you don't give up until... Look at that, he's going to get it going! | :38:39. | :38:44.
The front wing is very knocked askew but he can hopefully get these -- | :38:45. | :38:49.
this thing going. The fans enjoying a bit of Kimi's style, as he does | :38:50. | :38:57.
get the car going. Going through five and six and over the rise. Yes, | :38:58. | :39:06.
as he comes out of six... Well, unlucky. That was another look at | :39:07. | :39:12.
it. He hit the barrier pretty hard. What about front suspension damage? | :39:13. | :39:18.
You would think there would be some damage, but anyway... Kvyat will try | :39:19. | :39:22.
to squeeze back on him and he has done so, sideways from Kvyat and he | :39:23. | :39:28.
retake the place. Rosberg right on the gearbox of Daniel Ricciardo | :39:29. | :39:32.
after that incident running wide. It's all happening here at the | :39:33. | :39:35.
moment. Raikkonen sent on his way once again, taking a mighty impact | :39:36. | :39:39.
and all the data centres will be telling the team that the front | :39:40. | :39:46.
suspension is OK. Here comes Rosberg, he's going to reclaim the | :39:47. | :39:51.
lead. He does, he goes past Danny Ricciardo, who is still slicking | :39:52. | :39:59.
around on the brakes. Hamilton gets part Kvyat. Ricciardo has not given | :40:00. | :40:03.
up on the lead place because Rosberg side-by-side with him but finally | :40:04. | :40:06.
the Mercedes surely does finish off that pass. You can see how far | :40:07. | :40:14.
Sebastian battle is going at this point, but Hamilton was fastest in | :40:15. | :40:16.
that middle sector with the benefit of the tow. Nothing really that | :40:17. | :40:31.
could be done by Daniil Kvyat. Hulkenberg has got past Carlos | :40:32. | :40:35.
Sainz. Just a moment or two ago. Hulkenberg is flying right now. But | :40:36. | :40:39.
another massively fastest lap by Nico Rosberg as that track continues | :40:40. | :40:44.
to dry up but overtaking gets more difficult because you have to move | :40:45. | :40:51.
off-line. Having said that, Vettel gets into third place and the | :40:52. | :40:56.
Ferrari is flying. Hamilton was 1.2 seconds slower than Rosberg last | :40:57. | :41:02.
time around. Is he nursing an issue with the front axle? | :41:03. | :41:10.
RADIO: Felipe, it's a problem, we need to retire the car. Oh no, we're | :41:11. | :41:15.
looking at a double retirement for Williams. Rosberg, another new | :41:16. | :41:23.
fastest lap for him. DRS in operation... Will Daniel Ricciardo | :41:24. | :41:28.
be close enough into turn one? He had a think about it but decided to | :41:29. | :41:32.
follow the Red Bull because when they get to the main straight it | :41:33. | :41:35.
will be easy-peasy for Lewis Hamilton to get past the Red Bull. | :41:36. | :41:40.
This is where it gets difficult for him and it's a super section of race | :41:41. | :41:44.
track, this is like drivers's heaven, high-speed corners and one | :41:45. | :41:48.
coming after another. You see the elevation change as well that has | :41:49. | :41:51.
been cleverly built into this race track. Rising up through the kink | :41:52. | :42:01.
and into turn ten where they had the difficulty qualifying because of | :42:02. | :42:05.
running water. Then this massively wide entry into turn 11. If it were | :42:06. | :42:10.
to finish this way, Lewis Hamilton would not be world champion, not | :42:11. | :42:13.
with Rosberg winning the race and him here in third place. Even second | :42:14. | :42:19.
place wouldn't be enough. Lewis Hamilton draws alongside and | :42:20. | :42:23.
overtake Daniel Ricciardo very easily. Kimi Raikkonen getting out | :42:24. | :42:26.
of the way because he is being lapped after an extra pit stop he | :42:27. | :42:30.
had to make after his crash into the barrier, but Hamilton now had a | :42:31. | :42:34.
chance to go chasing after his team-mate Nico Rosberg. Now Hamilton | :42:35. | :42:41.
is in some clear air. OK Kimi, I'm afraid the right front damage is | :42:42. | :42:47.
going through the roof, so we need to slow down and box. We need to | :42:48. | :42:50.
retire, I'm afraid. The damage was maybe done to the duct. Another | :42:51. | :42:57.
possible retirement, Marcus Ericsson in the Sauber. A full safety car, | :42:58. | :43:06.
not a virtual one. It's all over and all that hard work that Rosberg has | :43:07. | :43:09.
done to build up the gap will now disappear. | :43:10. | :43:14.
RADIO: Safety car. You are staying out. Staying out. Safety car, safety | :43:15. | :43:19.
car. You are staying out. Keep positive. Rosberg has certainly | :43:20. | :43:24.
delivered. Medium tyres going on some of these cars. Sebastian Vettel | :43:25. | :43:29.
trying to do half a race on the medium. Should in theory be able to | :43:30. | :43:35.
do that. We're looking at 28 laps and in theory they had a life of | :43:36. | :43:39.
about 30 laps, the team is reckoned, but they didn't do any dry running, | :43:40. | :43:43.
so it's a bit of an experiment but probably a good decision to bring | :43:44. | :43:50.
Sebastian Vettel in. Max Verstappen has stayed out there. We're into one | :43:51. | :43:54.
of these situations where that won't be resolved until later in the | :43:55. | :43:58.
race. We understand now why the safety car had to be called. They | :43:59. | :44:03.
will go right to the other side of the track for that to be craned out | :44:04. | :44:06.
of the way. Jenson Button also making his pit stop. He's gone on to | :44:07. | :44:12.
the soft tyre, I believe. The safety car is going to be in on this lap. | :44:13. | :44:20.
RADIO: The braking is quite slippery, it's easy to lock up. I'm | :44:21. | :44:25.
afraid I can't comment on line, Lewis. One of the things that was | :44:26. | :44:30.
banned from radio communication that they were able to use but no longer. | :44:31. | :44:38.
A little while ago. Rosberg will control the pace. That is the most | :44:39. | :44:43.
vulnerable we have seen Lewis Hamilton sounding for some time. | :44:44. | :44:46.
Definitely advantage Rosberg. This is going to be difficult for | :44:47. | :44:50.
Hamilton to do anything. The first time we have seen him rope a dope, | :44:51. | :44:54.
pretending he is down and then he bounces back. He's going to let the | :44:55. | :45:00.
field once up and then let the safety car go. If he backs out, lets | :45:01. | :45:06.
the safety car go, makes sure he doesn't catch the safety car by the | :45:07. | :45:11.
time they come through to 19, and he will have to leave the circuit by | :45:12. | :45:15.
the normal pit lane. He's trying to judge now how far ahead he needs to | :45:16. | :45:22.
let the safety car go. If he gets the safety car before the last of | :45:23. | :45:27.
the safety car lines, then he has to back out of it. Hamilton trying to | :45:28. | :45:32.
glue himself to the gearbox of his team-mate's car. Nico Rosberg will | :45:33. | :45:35.
build up the pace, they are all on tyres that are not up to | :45:36. | :45:39.
temperature. Watch for the mistake, it could come from anybody. Rosberg | :45:40. | :45:45.
making a brake already. Sebastian Vettel is in that line. He is chased | :45:46. | :45:52.
by Max Verstappen. Don't forget how good Max Verstappen has proved to be | :45:53. | :45:57.
this afternoon. Hulkenberg is behind him. Good restart so far from Nico | :45:58. | :46:01.
Rosberg. It was up here that Hamilton was worried about the | :46:02. | :46:07.
braking. Vettel gets passed him! Vettel gets passed Daniil Kvyat and | :46:08. | :46:11.
that puts him into fourth edition. Lewis Hamilton went deep as well and | :46:12. | :46:17.
so did Nico Rosberg. Rosberg looks superb at the moment, his car is | :46:18. | :46:20.
working well and he is making the good calls. Right now he's doing | :46:21. | :46:24.
enough to prevent Hamilton from winning the World Championship | :46:25. | :46:28.
today. He may have to wait until next time out in Mexico. Up over the | :46:29. | :46:33.
rise they come. Now Sebastian Vettel and he could still be a threat in a | :46:34. | :46:39.
Ferrari that seems to work well in these slightly changeable | :46:40. | :46:43.
conditions. Verstappen, tucked in behind Daniil Kvyat. They have got | :46:44. | :46:47.
the Mercedes powered Force India behind them. DRS not enabled yet | :46:48. | :46:51.
because we've only just started again after the safety car came in. | :46:52. | :46:57.
Going past Daniel Ricciardo on the outside. Ricciardo fights back on | :46:58. | :47:00.
the inside me while Hulkenberg is side and side. Sebastian Vettel is | :47:01. | :47:07.
true. In the background, he did not quite get past the Sabin. Just | :47:08. | :47:13.
carrying a bit too much speed. Fantastic from Daniel Ricciardo. | :47:14. | :47:16.
Just when you think it was looking like it was over, he has pounced | :47:17. | :47:21.
somewhere and Sebastian Vettel must have made a mistake or left the door | :47:22. | :47:25.
open. Fantastic from Daniel Ricciardo to fight back in this | :47:26. | :47:30.
tight and twisty last section of the track and Sebastian Vettel having to | :47:31. | :47:34.
pay the price and drop behind him again. This is a brilliant Grand | :47:35. | :47:39.
Prix. We haven't seen this kind of close racing for some time and it | :47:40. | :47:43.
just goes to show that whenever we have changeable conditions, it | :47:44. | :47:49.
throws it wide open. Rosberg leading after the restart, from Hamilton. | :47:50. | :47:56.
Sebastian Vettel has a chance side-by-side with Ricciardo. Vettel | :47:57. | :48:01.
does take the place again, he is into third. Different tyres in those | :48:02. | :48:06.
cars, we don't know what the offset performance is. We can assume that | :48:07. | :48:11.
the yellow sidewall tyres are the faster to be on but Daniel Ricciardo | :48:12. | :48:15.
struggling as we saw with his team-mate to stop the car into turn | :48:16. | :48:20.
one. Sebastian Vettel was a bit wide but they are all using the curb | :48:21. | :48:24.
quite a lot now, so much drier than it was in wet practice. Max | :48:25. | :48:29.
Verstappen down the inside of Kvyat, and has he done it again? That is | :48:30. | :48:33.
where he made the move on Sebastian Vettel earlier on. It was a | :48:34. | :48:38.
perfectly fair and valid manoeuvre. He may not be happy about being | :48:39. | :48:41.
passed but he has to admire the manner in which it was done. It is | :48:42. | :48:46.
almost three abreast with Ricciardo, as they had out to turn 12. | :48:47. | :48:52.
Ricciardo still just there and Kvyat pays the price, he has lost out to | :48:53. | :48:57.
Hulkenberg as well. Costly for the Russian, dropping behind the Force | :48:58. | :49:05.
India now. Daniil Kvyat extremely wide. Hamilton, I do know a few was | :49:06. | :49:14.
in DRS zone or not but he is still behind Rosberg. He certainly liked | :49:15. | :49:21.
that group didn't he? Look at this, Max Verstappen ahead of Ricciardo. | :49:22. | :49:26.
What has happened to Ricciardo? He is now under pressure from | :49:27. | :49:29.
Hulkenberg as well. Max Verstappen in fourth place, that is where he | :49:30. | :49:35.
finished in Hungary this year. What a drive again from the 18-year-old. | :49:36. | :49:40.
Nico Hulkenberg is making the most of these conditions in the Force | :49:41. | :49:44.
India. Riding on board with the Mercedes power unit with Nico | :49:45. | :49:49.
Hulkenberg. It looks like Ricciardo was struggling with his soft tyres | :49:50. | :49:52.
and Hulkenberg is on the medium compound. Just dropped out of their | :49:53. | :50:00.
operating window. You could see Daniil Kvyat's red light flashing | :50:01. | :50:04.
saying they are unable to deploy any electrical energy. We know as the | :50:05. | :50:08.
track dried out it is where the Mercedes powered cars start to | :50:09. | :50:14.
stretch their legs. Of course Max Verstappen is in a Renault powered | :50:15. | :50:17.
car as well and something is working well for the Toro Rosso here because | :50:18. | :50:20.
now he is in fourth, meanwhile Hamilton is now within DRS range of | :50:21. | :50:23.
Rosberg. RADIO: | :50:24. | :50:32.
INAUDIBLE Down the main straight, presumably. | :50:33. | :50:40.
They may have an issue with the underside of the car, the leading | :50:41. | :50:47.
edge of the underfloor, the teacher I. I guess it resembles a tea | :50:48. | :50:54.
tray... That could be an area of weakness for the Ferrari. Ricciardo | :50:55. | :51:01.
under attack from Hulkenberg. They touch, they make contact. Damage to | :51:02. | :51:08.
Hulkenberg and once again Hulkenberg was involved in the last couple of | :51:09. | :51:12.
Grand Prix of Darts and it was a legitimate attempt, but then the | :51:13. | :51:17.
door just closed and that is it, all over for Hulkenberg. Such a shame, | :51:18. | :51:23.
he crashed out last time and he has gone through a bad sequence and | :51:24. | :51:28.
Carlos Sainz under investigation. This will mean a couple of other | :51:29. | :51:34.
cars moving up. Perez under threat from Button. Button is now in eighth | :51:35. | :51:43.
place, Perez in ninth and chances here for McLaren to score | :51:44. | :51:46.
much-needed points. Last time around, Button was behind Perez. | :51:47. | :51:53.
Nico Rosberg still just in front but up ahead Ricciardo is the 1 who will | :51:54. | :51:58.
be dropping back, still keeping an eye on this little group as well. | :51:59. | :52:02.
Maldonado is at the back of that train. Trying to see if there is | :52:03. | :52:09.
damage to Maldonado's car, seeing from the bodywork. It looks like | :52:10. | :52:11.
maybe just below the infinity sign. RADIO: The car is OK, stay out | :52:12. | :52:22.
otherwise we are ready for you. He says he has got damaged but he's | :52:23. | :52:26.
going to try and stick with it for now. His team-mate getting quicker | :52:27. | :52:35.
and he may have to let him through. He should just zoom by before the | :52:36. | :52:41.
braking zone. Yes, Kvyat is catching and catching. Moves out of the | :52:42. | :52:45.
slipstream quite late. Daniil Kvyat moves into fifth place right now. He | :52:46. | :52:51.
will go after Max Verstappen who has opened up the advantage. Hamilton is | :52:52. | :53:02.
no .7 of a second behind Rosberg. It is Rosberg just managing the race at | :53:03. | :53:06.
this stage, or is Hamilton, as I suggested earlier, is he just faking | :53:07. | :53:09.
some issues and now applying pressure. We will find out soon. If | :53:10. | :53:14.
I were Rosberg, I'm not sure I would be happy having Hamilton less than a | :53:15. | :53:24.
second behind me. Carlos Sainz has been given a 5 second penalty which | :53:25. | :53:27.
will probably be added at the end of the Grand Prix now. That was a late | :53:28. | :53:33.
pull-out, wasn't it. Hamilton is going slowly, very slowly. There is | :53:34. | :53:37.
something wrong for the Mercedes! The safety car is out. Oh! Thank you | :53:38. | :53:47.
for pointing that out. For Hamilton fans, it is because they are having | :53:48. | :53:51.
difficulty recovering that cast quite for the second time in this | :53:52. | :53:57.
race, the virtual safety car. Two virtual safety car 's and one real | :53:58. | :54:04.
one. A long way around the lab. A replay of Hulkenberg and Daniel | :54:05. | :54:14.
Ricciardo, I believe. It was a fairly light kiss. The front wing | :54:15. | :54:18.
was already looking a bit... It was flapping around, there. There was | :54:19. | :54:26.
room, it was a digit at attempt at a pass. It doesn't look to me like | :54:27. | :54:32.
Daniel was closing the door. You see it from this angle. Hulkenberg, on | :54:33. | :54:36.
the brakes, he comes late. But less space. You can't just blame Daniel, | :54:37. | :54:44.
if your trajectory is not going to allow you to turn the corner then of | :54:45. | :54:49.
course you are going to end up... It will be interesting to see what the | :54:50. | :54:53.
stewards think of that. They may put it down as a wheel to wheel incident | :54:54. | :54:57.
because I don't think there was any malice in either part or any intent | :54:58. | :55:03.
by either driver. Daniel, we're stacking the Cards, we are stacking | :55:04. | :55:07.
the cards. I wonder if that means Mercedes will be doing the same | :55:08. | :55:11.
thing. They will bring them both in at the same time and it won't really | :55:12. | :55:16.
affect their battle to much. Given the safety car, it affects more | :55:17. | :55:20.
Hamilton because when you go back out onto track, Hamilton stays out. | :55:21. | :55:25.
Rosberg has been brought in. He had preferential treatment as the race | :55:26. | :55:31.
leader, which is right and proper. He wants to drive now absolutely on | :55:32. | :55:39.
the Delta. He was under speeding the car last time they had the virtual | :55:40. | :55:45.
safety car. Really focus on maximising your lap times. What does | :55:46. | :55:49.
this do for Sebastian Vettel? He may be trying to get through the race on | :55:50. | :55:54.
his set of medium compound tyres. We are expecting Hamilton to come back | :55:55. | :55:58.
in. A real chance here four Sebastian. There is. We will find | :55:59. | :56:02.
out, when you see the stacking you definitely lose extra time. Just | :56:03. | :56:08.
look at the gap that is there between any Ricciardo and his | :56:09. | :56:10.
team-mate when they go back out on track. They don't have the benefit | :56:11. | :56:14.
of a full safety car when you can speed back onto the gearbox of the | :56:15. | :56:18.
car in front, you are now usual light to a Delta time. Medium | :56:19. | :56:25.
compound tyres for both of the Red Bulls. I think it is a soft tyre for | :56:26. | :56:30.
Ricciardo. Ricciardo has gone out on the soft but Daniil Kvyat is on the | :56:31. | :56:37.
medium. Second place for the moment behind Hamilton. We have got a car | :56:38. | :56:46.
behind. He may be going to the end. And you are not, because I'm sure | :56:47. | :56:50.
he's going to need to make a pit stop. He stopped on lap 18. Too far | :56:51. | :56:55.
to go on this soft tyre, so we expect presumably to see him in at | :56:56. | :57:00.
the end of this lap. Is he going to do something slightly different? | :57:01. | :57:05.
Well, if he has doubts then he has to go and make the stop now. Because | :57:06. | :57:11.
once the race restarts, they can go the distance. What is the tyre | :57:12. | :57:21.
situation? We are going to have a look at the tyres now, Lewis, and | :57:22. | :57:27.
make an assessment. He says he wants information now because we don't | :57:28. | :57:31.
know how long this virtual safety car... Actually, it is ending. Lewis | :57:32. | :57:36.
Hamilton on the charge, he now leads this Grand Prix which is where he | :57:37. | :57:40.
needs to be and he can wrap up the title. But he is due another pit | :57:41. | :57:46.
stop. As they come through it will be Vettel in second place and he's | :57:47. | :57:49.
going to go all the way to the end on the tyres that he's on, now. | :57:50. | :57:54.
Could he go the distance? Everything would suggest they don't have the | :57:55. | :57:59.
life in those tyres. The pace has been lower than we've seen in | :58:00. | :58:02.
previous Austin Grand Prix, and there have been plenty of safety | :58:03. | :58:07.
lapse to take some energy out of his tyres. It has to be worth a punt. | :58:08. | :58:14.
Alonso is leaking -- sneaking down the inside of Paras. Carlos Sainz is | :58:15. | :58:20.
trying to do the same thing but that isn't quite on and he doesn't make | :58:21. | :58:25.
it. Rosberg hideaway is tucked in behind Max Verstappen. Rosberg came | :58:26. | :58:30.
over the line seven tenths of a second behind Max Verstappen. Right | :58:31. | :58:35.
at the bike you have got Pastor Maldonado running in ninth place and | :58:36. | :58:38.
here you are, Max Verstappen in front of him. This is turn 11. | :58:39. | :58:45.
You've got to presume he would be able to make an easy pass here. The | :58:46. | :58:50.
difference in speed between the two cars with DRS is evident. The | :58:51. | :58:54.
problem for Hamilton is that when he went across the line in the | :58:55. | :58:59.
restart, he was only 8.9 seconds behind Hamilton. The time to come | :59:00. | :59:07.
into the pit lane, take on tyres and rejoin would be considerably more | :59:08. | :59:13.
than that. Hamilton right now among the pack with Maldonado in ninth | :59:14. | :59:17.
place. This is not working well for Hamilton and his hopes of winning | :59:18. | :59:24.
here and winning the championship. We need to find another ten seconds | :59:25. | :59:32.
to Vettel. That is asking quite a lot, you would think. He gained a | :59:33. | :59:40.
10th on him in that last lap. Rosberg was 8 cents a second faster | :59:41. | :59:45.
on fresh tyres. A new fastest lap for Nico Rosberg. The incident | :59:46. | :59:50.
between Ricciardo and Hulkenberg will be looked at after the race. | :59:51. | :59:58.
Vettel now under pressure from a freshly tired Mercedes. I don't | :59:59. | :00:03.
think this is going to be a contest for very long. Both have had three | :00:04. | :00:07.
victories this year but Vettel and Rosberg. Vettel is currently ahead | :00:08. | :00:13.
of Rosberg in the championship. I don't think there's much he can do | :00:14. | :00:16.
and Rosberg surges through and back into what is second place and goes | :00:17. | :00:20.
chasing after team-mate Hamilton who may be trying to get to the of the | :00:21. | :00:24.
Grand Prix but whatever he does, surely he's going to become victim | :00:25. | :00:28.
to his team-mate and Rosberg is going to continue the championship | :00:29. | :00:29.
struggle for a little bit longer. That is a man on the move, DRS | :00:30. | :00:40.
against no DRS makes a big difference in straight-line speed, | :00:41. | :00:44.
as is shown there and you know when you are the car behind with DRS, you | :00:45. | :00:49.
are able to judge at what point you will catch the car in front, so not | :00:50. | :00:53.
under any pressure in breaking, so Rosberg is a man on the move and | :00:54. | :00:56.
unless something happens, and there has been plenty of action so far | :00:57. | :01:01.
this afternoon but otherwise Rosberg will get onto the back of Hamilton | :01:02. | :01:07.
pretty quickly and I don't see how Hamilton on those tyres can defend. | :01:08. | :01:13.
Alonso has caught Button, not a big difference in specification between | :01:14. | :01:18.
the two Honda engines. Trash! Kvyat on the wall. He has hit it hard. -- | :01:19. | :01:25.
crash. This might be a lifeline for Hamilton in terms of giving him some | :01:26. | :01:31.
more opportunity on the tire. I crashed, sorry guys. Sorry. Sounds | :01:32. | :01:38.
like it was his mistake, nobody else involved but he is clearly OK, right | :01:39. | :01:42.
front damage and Kvyat is out of the Grand Prix. What happened? Get onto | :01:43. | :01:52.
the artificial grass and unfortunately spins him around. The | :01:53. | :01:58.
grass holds the water. Ricciardo was too close for comfort, thankfully | :01:59. | :02:05.
managed to avoid it. We will see Hamilton heading into the pits | :02:06. | :02:08.
shortly as Rosberg will become race leader once again. Where will | :02:09. | :02:14.
Hamilton come out? A gap to Verstappen who is just coming | :02:15. | :02:18.
through, 19, could bring him out just behind Rosberg and Vettel. Just | :02:19. | :02:24.
passing the start- finished now and Vettel has come in. Not happy about | :02:25. | :02:28.
getting to the end of the race on that set of tyres. Hamilton back out | :02:29. | :02:36.
on the soft tyre as well, I think, that means that Rosberg has retaken | :02:37. | :02:41.
the lead. Hamilton came just behind Verstappen, looking at our circuit | :02:42. | :02:49.
tracker. Hamilton has, in front of Verstappen, excuse me. That means it | :02:50. | :02:54.
is game on. When the safety car picks up the pack, it will bring | :02:55. | :02:57.
everybody bunched up, Hamilton on the fresher tyres. It has worked out | :02:58. | :03:05.
really well for Hamilton, Carlos Sainz in the Toro Rosso for his | :03:06. | :03:08.
final pit stop and soul was Pastor Maldonado going ahead of him. | :03:09. | :03:12.
Sebastian Vettel will not have the pace to choose the Mercedes, but who | :03:13. | :03:17.
knows? The safety car will be back in again and the end of this lap and | :03:18. | :03:21.
Rosberg and Hamilton will be in a straight jewel because Max | :03:22. | :03:24.
Verstappen is in third and he will be busy trying to protect his | :03:25. | :03:31.
position. RADIO: You will have ten laps remaining, just keep it nice | :03:32. | :03:35.
and clean. Rosberg goes, we'll spin on the restart as he launches into | :03:36. | :03:40.
these tyres, they have lost temperature and Verstappen, what a | :03:41. | :03:46.
great restart, Sebastian Vettel right behind him. Great restart by | :03:47. | :03:49.
Rosberg and Hamilton knows he has a bit of time, he doesn't have to take | :03:50. | :03:54.
a risk on the restart, he will look at the additional advantage he has | :03:55. | :03:58.
from his fresher tyres to close that gap but Verstappen looking very | :03:59. | :04:03.
racy, coming under medium pressure from Vettel, looking up the inside | :04:04. | :04:07.
in to turn on and not quite close enough to get alongside the Toro | :04:08. | :04:11.
Rosso. Alonso right behind them and then Perez chased by Ricciardo and | :04:12. | :04:17.
Button under threat as Maldonado is ahead of Carlos Sainz. Fantastic | :04:18. | :04:22.
from Verstappen, resisting the pressure from Vettel who showed his | :04:23. | :04:25.
nose as they ran up into Turn 1 but he resisted the pressure and didn't | :04:26. | :04:30.
lock-up and maintains the third-place position. This is the | :04:31. | :04:34.
key area for Vettel to get close because they are coming down to the | :04:35. | :04:38.
straight although he will not have DRS he has got Ferrari horsepower at | :04:39. | :04:42.
against Renault engine in the back of the Toro Rosso and Verstappen | :04:43. | :04:44.
looking for as deep and entry into the corner as he could possibly get | :04:45. | :04:50.
to get a quick exit and this is the opportunity for Vettel, he has done | :04:51. | :04:52.
it already in this race and it looks as though he will be able to do it | :04:53. | :04:55.
fairly simply once again, at potential podium for Verstappen. | :04:56. | :05:01.
Norway that he can defend from the Ferrari, he drops back to fourth | :05:02. | :05:07.
with Alonso behind him. Maldonado unbuttoned, side-by-side, they have | :05:08. | :05:10.
made contact already this year a couple of times and they just | :05:11. | :05:14.
touched on and Carlos Sainz is going to look after me is one of them if | :05:15. | :05:18.
not both, he has managed to squeeze in between but not getting past | :05:19. | :05:23.
Button at the same time. Fantastic opportunism from Carlos Sainz, still | :05:24. | :05:27.
all over the back of Button, has to be careful not to leave the door | :05:28. | :05:32.
open for Maldonado when it was into the of the race track down towards | :05:33. | :05:37.
19. But inwardly protecting their position in the McLaren, trying to | :05:38. | :05:40.
make a break from Carlos Sainz, Rosberg leads, Hamilton, 1.6 seconds | :05:41. | :05:45.
behind, another billion restart from Rosberg. Lock-up from Hamilton. Not | :05:46. | :05:51.
as well-positioned for the restart once again, Hamilton. Alonso keeping | :05:52. | :05:56.
Perez behind him at the moment. Alonso in fifth position, that would | :05:57. | :06:00.
match his best of the season so far, that was an hungry this season. | :06:01. | :06:06.
Perez in sixth, Ricciardo in the hunt in seventh, do not discount the | :06:07. | :06:10.
Red Bull, which was so quick in the damp conditions earlier on in this | :06:11. | :06:14.
Grand Prix and now on a fresher set of tyres, whereas Alonso is an tyres | :06:15. | :06:19.
that have done plenty of laps and so is Perez, Ricciardo could be the one | :06:20. | :06:23.
to watch. Hamilton has managed to pull a couple of tenths on Rosberg | :06:24. | :06:30.
in the first sector. The middle sector will be quite telling, well | :06:31. | :06:34.
back from having a DRS performance advantage, this is pure pace against | :06:35. | :06:35.
these. advantage, this is pure pace against | :06:36. | :06:41.
pressure from Carlos Sainz, a Honda engine against the Renault power | :06:42. | :06:44.
pressure from Carlos Sainz, a Honda unit. A little opportunity for Perez | :06:45. | :06:49.
to close up on Alonso. Alonso keeps them behind for now, Button | :06:50. | :06:55.
continues to defend and Carlos Sainz. Both McLarens in the mix, | :06:56. | :06:59.
great to see, it has not happened much this year at all. Carlos Sainz | :07:00. | :07:05.
chasing Jenson Button. As a live down the inside, he had a go, Carlos | :07:06. | :07:09.
Sainz and he might have pulled it off as Rosberg and Hamilton. Where | :07:10. | :07:16.
is Hamilton? He has taken the lead. Rosberg has made a mistake. Zero x | :07:17. | :07:22.
six seconds ahead and it was coming out of 15. In terms of a race battle | :07:23. | :07:28.
that we wanted, what a disappointment, looking forward to | :07:29. | :07:31.
wheel-to-wheel dice between those two but it means that Hamilton is | :07:32. | :07:34.
where he needs to be to win the championship. A fastest lap as well | :07:35. | :07:39.
putting the pressure on Rosberg and Rosberg was the one that faltered | :07:40. | :07:43.
and made a mistake, Vettel chases after him, Vettel can get past | :07:44. | :07:47.
Rosberg, then the championship is not decided. RADIO: What happened | :07:48. | :07:56.
there? Problem of the top line, trying to catch. Vettel try to | :07:57. | :08:04.
understand what has gone on, some great racing going on but Hamilton | :08:05. | :08:07.
is in front and is right now heading for his third world title, in such | :08:08. | :08:11.
dramatic fashion, Carlos Sainz all over the back of the Red Bull of | :08:12. | :08:16.
Ricciardo, looks down the inside. And Ricciardo has to give him space. | :08:17. | :08:21.
Good from Button to take advantage of that. Doesn't quite get the drive | :08:22. | :08:26.
of the turn, coming over some standing water but firmly under the | :08:27. | :08:31.
gearbox of Daniel Ricciardo and Button must be thinking it is | :08:32. | :08:34.
Christmas, I'm racing. DRS in operation. The Red Bull is surely | :08:35. | :08:40.
make contact and Button takes advantage of it. Carlos made a very | :08:41. | :08:45.
late movement, you have to be careful, coming back at Button. Full | :08:46. | :08:51.
marks for showing hunger and a certain level of aggression but you | :08:52. | :08:56.
cannot weave in the braking zone, it is written in the regulation and for | :08:57. | :09:00.
safety of cars being launched. Button chases after his team-mate, | :09:01. | :09:04.
Alonso, Button is on fresher tyres, slight advantage. RADIO: You are on | :09:05. | :09:13.
fire, keep pushing. He is driving well, the crash this morning in | :09:14. | :09:16.
practice, Rosberg has just that fastest lap as he tries to claim | :09:17. | :09:22.
back. But imposes Alonso. Gets past his team-mate as McLaren had for | :09:23. | :09:25.
their best finish of the season, that puts him into sixth place but | :09:26. | :09:30.
as a joint finish this would be their best of the year. But now will | :09:31. | :09:35.
go after Sergio Perez. Maldonado still with a chance of scoring some | :09:36. | :09:38.
points at the back of the train and Carlos Sainz proving that not only | :09:39. | :09:43.
Max Verstappen can overtake and don't forget that Verstappen is in | :09:44. | :09:47.
fourth place currently and Carlos Sainz will go up against his great | :09:48. | :09:50.
hero and great friend, Fernando Alonso. Fernando is a fair but hard | :09:51. | :09:57.
racer, struggling for traction off the turn. Then the inside. He has a | :09:58. | :10:05.
look and think he will make it, Maldonado has gone past Ricciardo. | :10:06. | :10:09.
Damage on Ricciardo's car as a result of the contact with | :10:10. | :10:11.
Hulkenberg, so he is not able to show us what he can do and just bear | :10:12. | :10:17.
in mind that Alexander Rossi in the manner is running around in 12th | :10:18. | :10:20.
place, their best finish of the year. Felipe Nasr gets past. If we | :10:21. | :10:26.
were to lose one more car from this lead group, Rossi would get the best | :10:27. | :10:31.
result for them of the season. Would be fantastic for that team. We can | :10:32. | :10:35.
see some carbon fibre hanging down off the side of Ricciardo's car and | :10:36. | :10:38.
even with the DRS open, the Sauber was able to easily overtake. This | :10:39. | :10:45.
was the incident, little bit of contact, that was hard but fair, | :10:46. | :10:49.
maybe I was a bit too quick to judge, looked like Carlos was | :10:50. | :10:53.
looking to close the door. Let's just see. He did come in on a | :10:54. | :10:56.
shallow line and that is when you have to be careful, in this case, | :10:57. | :11:03.
put it down to enthusiasm and focus but you have to be pretty sure when | :11:04. | :11:06.
you move across the braking zone that you are not squeezing somebody | :11:07. | :11:10.
otherwise that will need the attention of the stewards and this | :11:11. | :11:13.
is Daniel. Let's see what damage she has. Missing a bargeboard from the | :11:14. | :11:20.
front edge of his car. That will prevent Rossi moving up another | :11:21. | :11:24.
position. We'll Ricciardo make it to the end of the Grand Prix? Just a | :11:25. | :11:28.
few laps to go, we are on Lap 51 out of 56. What a race it has been and | :11:29. | :11:37.
we are not going to go to the two hour but the longest Austin race we | :11:38. | :11:42.
have seen so far. Lewis Hamilton leads it, Rosberg had a quick lap a | :11:43. | :11:46.
moment ago but on the last lap they both put in pretty much identical | :11:47. | :11:50.
times and Rosberg, having made that mistake, allowing Hamilton through | :11:51. | :11:55.
and now it looks very much like he will wrap up the title here today | :11:56. | :11:59.
after one of the most eventful races, not just this season but of | :12:00. | :12:04.
the last few years. Vettel still in third, Verstappen is in fourth | :12:05. | :12:16.
position. RADIO: OK, I'm coming. Stay out, we are still in the | :12:17. | :12:24.
points. Alonso dropping back, but maybe could still pick up a point, | :12:25. | :12:28.
he is ten years now, Ricciardo made a pit stop but it will not be long | :12:29. | :12:34.
before he loses out on a potential point. Hamilton on his way, 4.3 | :12:35. | :12:38.
second advantage over his team-mate, Nico Rosberg. Rosberg getting | :12:39. | :12:42.
pressure from Vettel, just 1.7 seconds behind him, managed it | :12:43. | :12:48.
easier .4 seconds out of the last lap around. Could be lining it up | :12:49. | :12:54.
for a late charge. If Vettel could get second, it would change things | :12:55. | :12:59.
in the World Championship. Not enough for Hamilton to win the title | :13:00. | :13:05.
here. We have only got a couple of laps to go. Riding on board with | :13:06. | :13:09.
Carlos Sainz. Past the grandstand on the exit of turn nine, through turn | :13:10. | :13:14.
ten who was catching at many in qualifying this morning. Needs to be | :13:15. | :13:21.
closely, but the traction of the McLaren is good. Better this time | :13:22. | :13:30.
than last time around. Jenson Button have DRS against Perez, too far | :13:31. | :13:34.
back, going for the late dive, thinking about it, Carlos Sainz down | :13:35. | :13:38.
the inside of Button, can he slow the car? He has judged that | :13:39. | :13:42.
beautifully. Absolutely beautiful pass from Carlos Sainz. It fits the | :13:43. | :13:48.
Toro Rosso into fifth, sorry sixth place and Toro Rosso are running | :13:49. | :13:52.
fourth and sixth and outstanding result that they can hang onto that | :13:53. | :13:58.
with both cars in the top six. Might still be able to put pressure on | :13:59. | :14:01.
Perez as well, so they might be fourth and fifth. That would be | :14:02. | :14:05.
quite something particularly with Carlos Sainz coming back from the | :14:06. | :14:08.
accident will stop Vettel has closed the gap a little bit more. It was | :14:09. | :14:14.
1.7, come down to 1.1, little bit more and she is suddenly within DRS | :14:15. | :14:19.
range. If he gets this section here tidy, then he will be in that DRS | :14:20. | :14:25.
activations on as they run into turn 11 -- activation zone. Just a couple | :14:26. | :14:33.
of laps to go here in Austin, a circuit that has been flooded for | :14:34. | :14:36.
much of the weekend but has delivered the light in terms of a | :14:37. | :14:41.
race this afternoon. I wonder if Ross Byrne goes thinking, second and | :14:42. | :14:44.
third it is all the same but maybe spoil the party for Lewis for | :14:45. | :14:45.
another weekend. Heading down the back stretch and he | :14:46. | :15:01.
certainly has closed up a little bit more, but will he be able to pass? | :15:02. | :15:07.
That is the question. He has taken six tenths of a second off Rosberg | :15:08. | :15:13.
last time round and it's not as if Rosberg had to be defending. He is | :15:14. | :15:17.
either really struggling on these tyres or he is giving Vettel an | :15:18. | :15:21.
opportunity to spoil the party for Hamilton. Is Vettel going to move | :15:22. | :15:28.
into second? If he does, the points gap would be just a bit too big for | :15:29. | :15:32.
Hamilton to wrap it up this weekend. They are racing again in seven days' | :15:33. | :15:37.
time in Mexico. Lewis Hamilton is onto his final lap. He is leading | :15:38. | :15:42.
the Grand Prix and heading for his third victory here in the past four | :15:43. | :15:47.
years. But what can Sebastian Vettel do here? Nico Rosberg goes deep into | :15:48. | :15:52.
turn one. Rosberg tighter on the apex. He's going to be thinking turn | :15:53. | :16:00.
12, in the braking zone, that is his opportunity. He was a bit quicker | :16:01. | :16:05.
than Rosberg last time around, so despite that mistake up into turn | :16:06. | :16:10.
one, this is all about the braking zone now in turned 12. Rosberg knows | :16:11. | :16:16.
it, Vettel knows it, we know it. What's going to happen? We have seen | :16:17. | :16:23.
Rosberg make an error when Lewis Hamilton was behind him. This time | :16:24. | :16:28.
Vettel is much closer. He slides a bit out of that corner. Rosberg is | :16:29. | :16:35.
going to hang on. I think it's just going to come too late for him as he | :16:36. | :16:40.
comes into the braking zone at 12. Does he make a lunch at it? No he | :16:41. | :16:46.
doesn't. He doesn't launch himself. It would have been overoptimistic. | :16:47. | :16:50.
Vettel perhaps being a bit more wary. What about 15? There is maybe | :16:51. | :16:57.
a last chance. This will decide whether or not Hamilton wins the | :16:58. | :17:02.
championship today. He's going to win it one way or another and it | :17:03. | :17:07.
could be in a few moments' time. Lewis Hamilton coming through the | :17:08. | :17:11.
last couple of corners. I don't think the Ferrari can do anything. | :17:12. | :17:16.
Through the last turn... Lewis Hamilton wins the US Grand Prix in | :17:17. | :17:20.
Austin, wait to see who crosses the line in second. Lewis Hamilton has | :17:21. | :17:28.
won his third World Championship. He is the 2015 world champion after an | :17:29. | :17:31.
incredible race of changing fortunes. Hamilton has done it! In | :17:32. | :17:37.
the USA and the team that won the Constructors' Championship last time | :17:38. | :17:40.
out in Russia has now taken the drivers's title with Lewis Hamilton | :17:41. | :17:45.
and it was one of the toughest races he has had to run as well. Max | :17:46. | :17:49.
Verstappen finishes a brilliant fourth place. Perez is fit for Force | :17:50. | :17:56.
India. Toro Rosso had one of their best days ever, finishing in fourth | :17:57. | :18:00.
and six. Button gained great points in seventh. We just wait and I think | :18:01. | :18:05.
Alonso is still going to pick up the final point. We will just wait for | :18:06. | :18:10.
him to come through to check that, and it will mean that Ricciardo will | :18:11. | :18:16.
be out of the points. No, Ricciardo got the final point, he passed | :18:17. | :18:20.
Alonso on the last lap. He has just crossed the final line, 1.4 seconds | :18:21. | :18:25.
ahead. Alexander Rossi will finish in 12, to match the Manor | :18:26. | :18:29.
Marussia's best result of the season. It's all about Lewis | :18:30. | :18:35.
Hamilton, he's done it again. He is a 3 times world champion. | :18:36. | :18:38.
RADIO: OK Lewis, I think you've done it made! See what Nico does... That | :18:39. | :18:46.
is it. World champion, pal. World champion. Three times world | :18:47. | :18:53.
champion, you've only gone and done it, mate. I'm feeling it pal, I'm | :18:54. | :18:59.
feeling it. How good does that sound, Lewis, three times world | :19:00. | :19:06.
champion? Thank you guys so much. Thank you so much. For everything | :19:07. | :19:12.
you guys do. I'm just so grateful, thank you. To my family, I love you | :19:13. | :19:18.
all. Thank you. Let's get some reaction now. Lewis Hamilton world | :19:19. | :19:25.
champion, what a way to do it? What a race actually. All the ups and | :19:26. | :19:28.
downs in the race but finally he made it. Just describe what he has | :19:29. | :19:34.
done this year and in this race as well. Fantastic race. We had our | :19:35. | :19:39.
problems in the beginning and then in the end it was tight with Nico | :19:40. | :19:44.
not having the pace. Just overwhelmed. How much better has | :19:45. | :19:50.
Lewis been this year than last year? He was almost faultless and the car | :19:51. | :19:54.
did not let him down, he scored all the necessary points. Just a great | :19:55. | :20:01.
feeling. Big party tonight. For sure! Well done. Wonderful scenes of | :20:02. | :20:08.
celebration here. We said Carlos Sainz finished in six but he had not | :20:09. | :20:12.
served his five second penalty. They have added the five seconds in and | :20:13. | :20:17.
it means that Jenson Button finishes in sixth place and Carlos Sainz | :20:18. | :20:20.
finishes seventh. Just look at the joy here for Lewis Hamilton. Paddy | :20:21. | :20:25.
Lowe on the right, the technical boss at Mercedes, these guys have | :20:26. | :20:29.
delivered for him and he has delivered thought -- for them as | :20:30. | :20:31.
well. He's the man of the moment. ANNOUNCER: We will hear the British | :20:32. | :20:39.
and German national anthems. Well done to Lewis Hamilton, what a | :20:40. | :21:34.
day for him. Nico Rosberg still looking pretty unhappy. Looking | :21:35. | :21:40.
very, very unhappy at this point. He has lost any opportunity of winning | :21:41. | :21:44.
the title, but there must be more to it, there must be something that | :21:45. | :21:48.
happened in the race. But no doubt this year that Lewis Hamilton has | :21:49. | :21:53.
dominated 2015. Lewis went early with the champagne. He's going to | :21:54. | :21:59.
make the most of this now. We said he was relaxed throughout this | :22:00. | :22:02.
championship campaign. But you can just see now that real release of | :22:03. | :22:08.
emotion. Nico gave his champagne to Paddy Lowe, he didn't want to join | :22:09. | :22:14.
in the celebrations. Paddy thought, well, I will enjoy it if you don't | :22:15. | :22:18.
want to. This is a great celebration for a man that has taken clearly the | :22:19. | :22:22.
class of the field race car and delivered. | :22:23. | :22:28.
Such dramatic scenes as Lewis Hamilton becomes a triple world | :22:29. | :22:37.
champion, consecutive championships, back-to-back, the only Brit to have | :22:38. | :22:40.
ever done that. What does it mean to win three? To be able to do that and | :22:41. | :22:46.
go level with Ayrton Senna is the realisation of a great dream for | :22:47. | :22:50.
him. Thoroughly deserved and now he has to be recognised up there with | :22:51. | :22:54.
the greats of the sport. He has been fantastic all year and being | :22:55. | :23:00.
recognised by the team as the champagne flows. Lewis Hamilton, | :23:01. | :23:04.
triple world champion. Is three a magic number, Lewis? Four is the | :23:05. | :23:12.
magic number, but three is pretty awesome as well! These are the guys | :23:13. | :23:16.
that make this all possible. -- 44 is the magic number! These guys, I | :23:17. | :23:21.
hope you are drinking and celebrating. For everything you've | :23:22. | :23:25.
done in supporting me all this way, it's been amazing. That race was so | :23:26. | :23:29.
much fun. An emotional roller-coaster. You say you have got | :23:30. | :23:33.
champagne in your shoes but you took a good glug champagne on the podium. | :23:34. | :23:44.
I can hold my drink pretty well actually! It was more about the | :23:45. | :23:54.
emotion... I know, I know. The it's so hard to describe. I feel like I | :23:55. | :23:58.
could run a marathon right now. It's incredibly empowering and wearing | :23:59. | :24:03.
much a humbling experience. I was a kid wanting to be world champion and | :24:04. | :24:07.
be a Formula 1 driver and do something similar to Ayrton and now | :24:08. | :24:10.
I have got the same number of championships as Ayrton, I can't | :24:11. | :24:15.
believe it. At one point you looked your helmet -- took your helmet off | :24:16. | :24:18.
and you were very reflective, like you couldn't believe what has | :24:19. | :24:21.
happened to you today. I still can't. I don't know at what point it | :24:22. | :24:29.
will come to my thoughts, but... I remember every day of my racing | :24:30. | :24:34.
career. Ireland all the things I've done and all the things people have | :24:35. | :24:40.
said along the way and the support, the doubts, Mike family, my dad, I'm | :24:41. | :24:48.
just grateful for it all and then today, the only person that could | :24:49. | :24:51.
really get in my way was myself and I feel today like I have conquered | :24:52. | :24:56.
any demons that if I may have had any, I do know if I did, but if I | :24:57. | :25:00.
had any demons or anything standing in my way, I feel like I conquered | :25:01. | :25:05.
it was great strength. This is the most wired I've ever seen you! I'm | :25:06. | :25:12.
pumped! Where do you go from here? From here, just enjoy this moment. I | :25:13. | :25:16.
think it's really important to enjoy it because this can only happen once | :25:17. | :25:20.
in this period of time and before I know it, I will be at home watching | :25:21. | :25:24.
TV with little kids running around at one stage and you know, so I just | :25:25. | :25:29.
really want to enjoy it with my guys and I hope my family are having a | :25:30. | :25:34.
drink, please have a drink for me. At what point did you know it was | :25:35. | :25:41.
on? At what point did you realise? There was never a moment I did not | :25:42. | :25:45.
believe I could do it. At the beginning I was struggling and I | :25:46. | :25:48.
lost a lot of confidence in the car. I kept believing I would find a way | :25:49. | :25:53.
and be able to fight my way back through the grid. The only time I | :25:54. | :25:58.
started thinking about the championship was when I was just | :25:59. | :26:02.
behind Nico and it was like, championship is right there. You | :26:03. | :26:06.
either stand back and accept second order you man up and go and get it. | :26:07. | :26:12.
I went for it so I was pushing and I was looking forward to racing with | :26:13. | :26:16.
Nico but obviously he made it a lot easier for me... But he has been | :26:17. | :26:23.
driving fantastically well. And it's not easy having me as a team-mate! | :26:24. | :26:27.
In a friendly, I'm the worst team mate you can have. Which is a good | :26:28. | :26:32.
thing for me. You are the man for me, you are the man in this Lone | :26:33. | :26:36.
Star state, here are the superstar. Congratulations. Thank you. | :26:37. | :26:41.
Let's check on today's result. Lewis Hamilton winning the race and the | :26:42. | :26:48.
championship. Sebastian Vettel took third spot on the podium. A | :26:49. | :26:52.
brilliant drive by Max Verstappen in fourth place. Daniel Ricciardo took | :26:53. | :26:53.
the final points. Lewis is world champion. Sebastian | :26:54. | :27:02.
Vettel second place and Nico Rosberg in third. Max Verstappen moves up | :27:03. | :27:06.
into the top ten. Not much to say about the Constructors' | :27:07. | :27:10.
Championship. We know Mercedes are the champions. Ferrari take second | :27:11. | :27:14.
place. A bad day at the office forward Iams and Red Bull. An | :27:15. | :27:18.
absolutely phenomenal day, David, what a race. It just shows that | :27:19. | :27:24.
whenever we have mixed weather conditions, it brings the action. | :27:25. | :27:31.
The star of the day? Obviously Lewis Hamilton. He fought back and somehow | :27:32. | :27:35.
put pressure on Nico Rosberg and came through to win his third world | :27:36. | :27:40.
title in style. Nico will be kicking himself to date. He will be | :27:41. | :27:43.
disappointed because he left the door open into turn one and also he | :27:44. | :27:47.
handled the pressure of leading the Grand Prix badly and that allowed | :27:48. | :27:52.
Lewis to come through and take the victory. Some strong performances | :27:53. | :27:55.
throughout the field, Jenson Button in the point and also Max Verstappen | :27:56. | :27:59.
in fourth place. It was quite a cracker and we will be back next | :28:00. | :28:03.
weekend as we return to Mexico, the first time we've been there since | :28:04. | :28:07.
1992. Today Lewis Hamilton made it three and he joined an elite club of | :28:08. | :28:11.
triple world champions. Nice work, Lewis. | :28:12. | :28:17.
COMMENTATOR: Now Brabham has got the race in his hands. | :28:18. | :28:29.
It's Jackie Stewart! Nobody has ever seen the finish of a motorways like | :28:30. | :28:35.
that. Niki Lauda comes up to the line. He | :28:36. | :28:50.
takes the chequered flag, and Niki Lauda, there is the world champion | :28:51. | :28:52.
of 1984! There is the world champion actually | :28:53. | :29:06.
becoming world champion. Over the line goes the world champion, 1983. | :29:07. | :29:16.
Ayrton Senna crosses the line. Ayrton Senna joins the list of true | :29:17. | :29:28.
greats as a three-time world champion. | :29:29. | :29:36.
The 2008 Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton! Lewis Hamilton is | :29:37. | :29:47.
the 2014 world champion! World champion! Oh my God! Lewis Hamilton | :29:48. | :29:53.
has won his third World Championship. He is the 2015 world | :29:54. | :30:00.
champion. Thank you guys so much. He joins the greats as a 3 times world | :30:01. | :30:03. |
