Day Four Golf: The Masters

The bear has come out of hibernation.

That is the way that champions do After a dramatic their round

He says he will win a major again, could it be today? And Hunter Mahan

is stalking another victory after triumph last week. And the last man

at four under, will the 18th will be kinder to Henrik Stenson as he

Oosthuizen has played more consistently that anyone so far at

finishing at three over par. Rory McIlroy currently three over as

well, not the greatest of days for That is the situation. Peter Hanson

might at the top. Some of this moment I'm short for him before he

goes out to practise. But Phil Mickelson is already there. There

It is always hard to sleep overnight in this tournament. The

within four or five shots from the media has a chance to win. I think

the favourite has to be Phil Mickelson but his experience, his

20th campaign. He's going for four Green Jacket to join the likes of

can go out feeling like a million dollars and then it all goes wrong.

Hanson, we have seen him in the limelight before and he just

trembles a little bit. But there is no reason why he cannot win it.

That is the fascination of it. It is a beautiful day. The trees are

not moving but it seems that this is a little bit of a breeze at

ground level. Well Phil Mickelson making his way

hole in one. This was a stellar round for the American from Indiana.

This was his approach to the 13th. He almost held its to an eagle.

certain holes you can ring the attack. 13. 14 is short on the

right. But then of 15 and 16 are good ones to attack. I think that

Gill loves this place and knows it very well. He knows when to attack.

That is the only reason why I believe that Phil Mickelson has a

was an amazing situation yesterday from Phil Mickelson. This shows the

confidence of the man round here at Augusta. No other players would

have attempted the full swing from that distance. It had the potential

ago there was six or seven shots ahead. But then things started to

go wrong. So everything is possible and nothing is possible. Well let

majors in the last five years that anyone else. And Henrik Stenson has

Sometimes you can be just a little bit of like I was on the first day.

I was just playing catch-up from men and it is a cut -- a tough

course to do that. It is nice to leave at least with some positive

feelings. What are the conditions like today? Have they changed in

the last few days? It is starting to firm up a little bit. The course

is still manageable. If you are on you can make plenty of birdies out

there. This place is tricky if you're just a little of, you will

struggle. It will make interesting viewing today. But I would expect

some good numbers from the leaders. Who do you fancy? It is hard to bet

against Phil Mickelson. As much as I would like to see Peter go up

there and play well. Phil Mickelson probably has to be the favourite.

His knowledge of this course. Anti prepares for probably more than

anyone around this place. Then Q. -- thank you.

What kind of character is he? It in the press time he has led in any

major. He is a quiet man. He goes about his business. He knows his

strengths. He's not the kind of player that likes to shake things

up. He hits the great shots. Up until now he has been very steady.

when I first came to the clubhouse, I sat down in one of the benches

and I kept looking at the first tee and seen players tee off. I thought

to myself that there was the best place in the whole world to be. I

felt comfortable. I love this place. It suited my game in those days. It

was more down to knowing where to put the irons on to the greens and

to have a short game around the greens. Letter see how calmly as --

What has been the problem with his game? It seemed to explode. This is

Augusta! There you have that. His game is suited for this golf course.

He has a long hitter of the ball and can draw the ball with no

problem but sometimes you just mishit it a little bit and it puts

you in a very awkward position. Once you get into that situation

and you do not overcome a situation like that, all of a sudden the hole

confidence goes away. On top of that, at these greens are very fast.

You have to have the perfect pace on them. If you do not have it you

are not came to make a part some that adds up. The undoing of Rory

was at the first hole and this is Westwood attempting the par putt.

And it just lips out. That really does put you on edge for the rest

of the round. You are immediately another shot behind. He may get to

three at the second, you never know, but the three or four pars to start

with just dig your way into feel content. Tiger Woods is in his

look at the target, and he knew exactly what he had to do. I think

he is in that process way he is working on his swing and is not

really comfortable with that. man very comfortable with his game

the two hundreds in the world rankings a couple of years ago but

where he could not hit a proper shot, he was mainly pulling the

shots left. From what I see, he is really good around the greens. His

short game is very good, his putting history could and lately he

has found some form. He is very steady from tee to green. And he

has heart, which is something that you need in the team. We are hoping

he can post a bit of a charge. This is Tiger Woods at the long 13th

hole. He has gone for it. It is a dangerous shot. It is in the water

again. You playing left of the flag end you can, with a bit of luck,

come right down towards the hole. That is the beauty and the horror

of this place. Sometimes it takes the wrong hop and goes up miles

solid record here. Back at the first, Padraig Harrington. He has

won three Majors in the last five years. The amazing finish he

golf and we have had a great friendship. We have laughed

competitive friendship. We had our share of beating each other but

He ANDREW COTTER: As we have seen from Bo Van Pelt, it is possible.

Yes, it certainly has. -- his. That was a very good angle but you want

probably got the best swinger in the entire field. I was shocked by

one of the American, take to say, well, he won the Open, by the way,

not realising it is the most difficult tournament in the world

to win. He has done so well under would love to see him win. He is a

wonderful young man. Look at this same position, he would be right

golf. This is one, Bubba Watson. What do you make of him? He hits

the ball prodigious distances. He sometimes can lose his balance! But

it is amazing how far he hits it. A lot of young people these days do

not worry about hitting it straight because of the groups. What would

it be like it has been asked, if Bubba Watson was in contention? One

commentator said he was so twitchy it would be his if he was on an ant

the second. He needs that. It is always the putting, not

very sound game. If he can keep his nerve and get off to a good start,

bloke has got the most envied stroke in the game. It is a joy to

watch. The opinions you need to have patience. I was playing with

Arnold Palmer or one year and he had me by nine shots playing the

third hole. And that can happen in this course. You have to realise

that you're not out of it. I was seven behind when I won in Augusta

one year. They have to believe that they can win. Well no man with

greater belief than this man, Phil is going to be here for the last

tee off on Sunday afternoon. Their nerves will be jangling. But more

so for Peter Hanson, you would suspect. Absolutely. It is quite a

daunting thing. It really is that it is a wonderful thing as well.

that difficult, but we have seen quite a few we would have shots.

lose that bit of control going into about 60 or 70 yards since I first

you have to be just right. Ideally, if you are feeling a bit of a

coward or really sensible, playing the percentages, you play to the

left of the pin, because if you come up short on this line if you

finish in the sand. If you go too far there is a bunker, so the area

you were trying to Amen is this little square. Eight yards by eight

yards. If you make a misjudgment of the breeze catches the ball, you

are in at this spot. If you call up that flag and get it marginally

wrong, you will certainly wish you quite right, though. There is a

gets under your skin you imagine all sorts of dreadful things are

golf course, it plays with your head. But it is fascinating. If you

play it well there is a score, and if you don't it can eat you up.

This was Westwood, he has been putting very poorly, but that was a

positive strokes. Mickelson seems to have had a drop a way from a
