greatest golfer in the world. is going into the parking lot.

:01:05.:01:15.
:01:15.:01:27.

Ballesteros is the champion. This Ballesteros. And Tony Jacklin is

:01:27.:01:37.
:01:37.:01:37.

Good morning, day three of the Open Championship at Royal Lytham and it

:01:37.:01:42.

is a beautiful day for golf. That is after a forgettable British

:01:42.:01:49.

summer. It is turning a corner. The sunshine is up a love and it is

:01:49.:01:55.

hardly a normal stiff sea breeze. Nobody is complaining right now and

:01:55.:02:00.

play has been underway since 8:10am this morning. If you head straight

:02:00.:02:06.

out for the early start, as you can, it is available on the red button.

:02:06.:02:10.

We will be dipping in and out of the golf and looking forward to

:02:10.:02:15.

what might come in the next few hours on moving day in the

:02:15.:02:21.

Championship. This is the 11th time since 1926 that the Championship

:02:21.:02:25.

has come to Royal Lytham and some of the greatest names have claimed

:02:25.:02:29.

the claret jug here. But it has gone home a cross the Atlantic to

:02:29.:02:36.

America. After a record-breaking couple of days, and other rare

:02:36.:02:44.

number is in pole position to make it three in a row. Welcome today is

:02:44.:02:48.

at this place. It was meant to be the day for Rory McIlroy to assert

:02:48.:02:53.

himself. But he was lapped up. He was right in the middle of the

:02:53.:03:02.

teeth. He was too wayward. It does not take long to ruin the Scot. And

:03:02.:03:09.

Quays, officer. Yesterday we concealed five in the rough. That

:03:09.:03:15.

is how tough it is. Where are we now? Just ask Nicolas Colsaerts.

:03:15.:03:23.

Chris Cohen five shots have all gone. -- is five shots have all

:03:24.:03:32.

gone. That went in at pace. Not him, the other one. A we are getting

:03:32.:03:40.

lots of looks. Four birdies in five holes. Is it going to happen? Keep

:03:40.:03:45.

an eye on him this weekend. That is a beauty. The best we have seen

:03:45.:03:50.

today. That is beautiful. Bunkers everywhere. Too many golfers in

:03:50.:03:58.

them. These bunkers are very punishing. That is very much the

:03:58.:04:04.

case of goodbye. Very little has pleased Phil Mickelson today after

:04:04.:04:14.
:04:14.:04:15.

a sorry round. Look at that. Time for a rest, leader. Catch the

:04:15.:04:25.

pheasant. And it is dribbling down. Look at this Royal and Royal Lytham

:04:25.:04:32.

it. It is a Tiger. He is not the Ailey American in the running.

:04:33.:04:39.

Bubba Watson is in the hand as well. But as for the home-grown humans,

:04:39.:04:44.

Padraig Harrington is 12 shots adrift and it looks like another

:04:44.:04:53.

week of Lee Westwood, The noes have it. Keep an eye on the Scotsman and

:04:53.:05:01.

the Welshman. Not you again. Difficult. What about the Wizard Of

:05:01.:05:08.

Oz? He is not the top of the tree. He has been whipping it up and all

:05:08.:05:13.

hail the power of Brandt Snedeker. It is swinging free and he is bogey

:05:13.:05:23.
:05:23.:05:23.

free. Look at that. Impressive leaderboard? Cheque. We are all set

:05:23.:05:33.

leaderboard? Cheque. We are all set for a tasty weekend. Indeed! We

:05:33.:05:38.

have had some pretty disappointed men including last year's champion.

:05:38.:05:42.

Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson and the only two amateurs in the

:05:42.:05:50.

field. You have got to make the cut to be in the running. It's we had a

:05:50.:05:54.

cliffhanger last night. If you were not sure where the cup would fall,

:05:54.:06:02.

look at this. It was three. Tom Watson. The five Open winners did

:06:02.:06:09.

creep across the line. Lee Westwood has extended his lead and this is

:06:09.:06:12.

the oldest player to make the cut at the Open. It was all happening

:06:13.:06:19.

on Friday evening. That was below ground and say was that. Holing out

:06:19.:06:26.

from the sand, Tiger Woods. So he is 6-under par. And just after we

:06:26.:06:32.

went off the air, Thorbjorn Olesen slotted this one a cross to take

:06:32.:06:40.

4th place. He has never won on the European Tour. But when he is on

:06:40.:06:45.

form, he is really good. So the leaderboard was looking like this

:06:45.:06:51.

last night after some truly spectacular golf. It was dominated

:06:51.:06:56.

by Brandt Snedeker. He has not visited a single one of the Tim

:06:56.:07:03.

Adams six bunkers and not dropped a single shot in a round of 66 and 64.

:07:03.:07:06.

Adam Scott was slightly overshadowed and is just one shot

:07:06.:07:16.

behind. Tiger Woods chasing his 15th title. Scotland's Paul Lawrie

:07:16.:07:20.

and Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell are part of the home

:07:20.:07:25.

challenge. England's world No. 1 Luke Donald is 2-under par and is

:07:25.:07:31.

in the next as well. They started at 8:10am. Some players will be

:07:31.:07:36.

going out later including Luke Donald and Stephen Lee care --

:07:36.:07:45.

Stephen Gallacher. Thomas Aiken comes out at 2:40pm. And one of the

:07:45.:07:53.

hottest properties in golf, Jason Dufner. He is joined by Graeme

:07:53.:07:59.

McDowell. This is the unofficial 5th Major and Matt Kuchar a

:07:59.:08:06.

company's Paul Lawrie. And I opening day I suspect in the

:08:06.:08:10.

company of Tiger Woods and kick will be fascinating to see how he

:08:10.:08:17.

copes under the microscope. And the two meant that have lit up the

:08:17.:08:26.

course at 3:20pm. We can watch all of that I am told that --. --

:08:26.:08:32.

of that I am told that --. -- unfold. It is great to have tea

:08:32.:08:37.

with us, Tony. And demand that began an era of great golf. It is

:08:37.:08:42.

25 years since your first Open victory, Nick Faldo. We have got

:08:42.:08:46.

stiff competition because Brandt Snedeker has equalled you'll round

:08:46.:08:54.

of 66. I was on Twitter watching it yesterday and Mike son was

:08:54.:09:00.

graduating yesterday. I was thinking, I do not like that!. I

:09:00.:09:07.

will not tell you much about that but I am delighted. I am still

:09:07.:09:13.

proud of any Open record that I have got. He has been with us for

:09:13.:09:18.

the first couple of days. Tony, how would you count rise what we have

:09:18.:09:25.

seen? We have had some good golf played. But we have had a benign

:09:25.:09:30.

weather. It has been like American golf. Bowls backing up on the

:09:30.:09:37.

greens with approach shots. It has meant that these players have not

:09:37.:09:40.

attacked the flags. The challenge is to keep out of the bunkers. You

:09:41.:09:45.

have to get it off the tee at Royal Lytham and that is our great

:09:45.:09:54.

importance. Otherwise you can get a shot penalty. But the people that

:09:54.:09:58.

stay out of the bunkers, it is interesting to hear because I did

:09:58.:10:02.

not realise that Brandt Snedeker had not been in a bunker. That is

:10:02.:10:08.

part of the reason he is ahead. His parting is very good of cause and

:10:08.:10:13.

that is part and parcel of winning the Championship. If you are not

:10:13.:10:17.

holing putts he will not be there at the weekend. We will talk

:10:17.:10:21.

specifically about what will be happening. We cannot have you in

:10:21.:10:28.

the studio without indulging in memories. We can start with you,

:10:28.:10:38.
:10:38.:10:49.

Absolutely perfect so far. He is in complete control of himself. What a

:10:49.:10:58.

corker. My word, that was a fine drive. The finest I have ever seen.

:10:58.:11:03.

This is a short shot but they all count and Tony Jacklin is the

:11:03.:11:08.

count and Tony Jacklin is the winner. I keep trying to stop

:11:08.:11:13.

myself from thinking about it. But you think about the shot and you

:11:13.:11:19.

try to forget it. I have not had a chance for it to sink in yet. I

:11:20.:11:26.

have never been happier in my whole life. No wonder we had emotion

:11:26.:11:30.

there and we have still got that when we looked back. Years have

:11:30.:11:36.

gone past but how often I reminded on a weekly basis of that?

:11:36.:11:41.

never forget because your senses are all heightened and at that time

:11:41.:11:47.

you are focused. Emotionally, you are controlling everything. I think

:11:47.:11:52.

for the weekend when it is that mental fortitude. I'd visualised

:11:52.:11:58.

myself doing this before it happened. It is adding that mental

:11:58.:12:05.

fortitude not to let your mind wander ahead. It is easy to say but

:12:05.:12:10.

the reality is very difficult. I said to Jack Nicklaus that I did

:12:10.:12:14.

not think I could ever be that nervous and play golf and he said,

:12:14.:12:21.

I know, isn't it great? He has been there many times. It is not over

:12:21.:12:28.

until it is finished. You have just got to control yourself. That is

:12:28.:12:32.

the great satisfaction. You can put your head on the pillow and think,

:12:32.:12:38.

I have beaten everybody that turned up today. That is the best thing

:12:38.:12:44.

you can have as a professional. was caught in the is known. I had

:12:44.:12:50.

the same feeling at Muirfield. It is feeling very blurry and your

:12:50.:12:58.

little world is just two steps in front of you. But I remember his

:12:58.:13:03.

words and being in a cocoon. Or you can control his yourself and your

:13:03.:13:10.

emotions and play a shot by shot. And at the beginning of the week I

:13:10.:13:14.

walked past the leaderboard and I was messing about with the putter.

:13:15.:13:21.

I saw my name at the top and I thought, I can handle that. And I

:13:21.:13:26.

knew that I would be sitting on Monday morning at Breakfast with

:13:26.:13:32.

that and the BBC doing an interview. They saw that and I thought, OK, I

:13:32.:13:39.

will stick around for that. It's people tell the -- people tell you

:13:39.:13:46.

how to put up with that. This is the greatest computer ever, these

:13:46.:13:51.

human mind. If you say that he wants to hang around on Sunday, you

:13:51.:13:56.

will. You have got to keep that promise to yourself that you are

:13:56.:14:05.

going to get a stamp. You have got to mean that. That is the hard bit.

:14:05.:14:10.

You were about 12 when he won at Royal Lytham. Can you put in

:14:10.:14:18.

context house significant that was for British golf? I only watched it

:14:18.:14:27.

in 1971. I did not have colour television until I was 12 or. Not

:14:27.:14:34.

like my daughter now! I do not think I saw him. I only saw him

:14:34.:14:38.

later in 1971 and then I saw pictures of him in magazines and

:14:38.:14:45.

that sort of thing. I did not even they what golf was. A You make me

:14:45.:14:53.

feel old! You think that so that was the first triumph. Your first

:14:53.:15:03.
:15:03.:15:07.

title was in 1987. We can reflect That is what it is all about, the

:15:07.:15:11.

claret jug. He is the most dedicated professional in the game

:15:11.:15:19.

of golf. That is a beautiful drive. That was an exquisite shot. Well

:15:19.:15:25.

done. Nick Faldo is the champion. He has the ability of playing the

:15:25.:15:32.

right shot at the right time. it is. This, to be champion. There

:15:32.:15:40.

you have it. Absolutely fantastic. It is wonderful. I'm going to

:15:40.:15:48.

cherish this moment. Thank you. Well, that was your era. When you

:15:48.:15:51.

think back to the first one, clearly it was a breakthrough. What

:15:51.:15:55.

was it that enabled you to go one and galvanise your career, three

:15:55.:16:02.

Masters titles to follow? What is it? I was determined. I loved the

:16:02.:16:07.

majors, as Tony described. You love the feeling. You were quite happy

:16:07.:16:11.

to prepare like crazy and you throw yourself in the depend, as I call

:16:11.:16:17.

it, without water wings. -- in the deep end. And you enjoyed that

:16:17.:16:22.

feeling. Playing golf on a Sunday afternoon in a major is the

:16:22.:16:25.

greatest moment in our career. If you survive it and you come out...

:16:25.:16:29.

That was the greatest thrill, to have you stomach-churning and go

:16:29.:16:35.

out and hit the shots better than you thought. And you look at the

:16:35.:16:41.

focus in your face. And the adrenaline. Wow! I could hold the

:16:41.:16:45.

adrenaline for four days. And when you knew it was over, you could

:16:45.:16:50.

physically feel the adrenalin lead you. It was amazing. Tony, you went

:16:50.:16:54.

on to claim the US Open as well, one of the very few to hold both at

:16:54.:16:59.

the same time. Was there one quality above any other which

:16:59.:17:04.

unites your triumphs in these majors? And if there were, what was

:17:04.:17:11.

it? Well, I knew back in the mid- 60s that my swing was not where it

:17:11.:17:14.

needed to be to stand up to the kind of pressure, the major

:17:14.:17:20.

pressure, the adrenaline rush that Nick is talking about. When that is

:17:20.:17:23.

all you, you cannot practise it on the range. But you need a golf

:17:23.:17:27.

swing that operates under that extreme pressure. And when you are

:17:27.:17:33.

under that pressure, I got to know about the importance of your lower

:17:33.:17:37.

body in the golf swing, to maintain tempo and rhythm. And you had to be

:17:37.:17:40.

able to control the speed of the swing to win major championships.

:17:40.:17:46.

Winning the British Open, you know the formula. You know you have done

:17:46.:17:50.

it once. When you have been there once, you know you can do it again.

:17:50.:17:55.

But you have to have a golf swing that will stand up. That is no

:17:55.:18:00.

question. Human traits, everything happens quicker when you are under

:18:00.:18:06.

that kind of pressure. So you have to find a way to slow it down. It

:18:06.:18:10.

is not just breathing, not just thinking slow, you have to

:18:10.:18:14.

physically have a golf swing that operates under that extreme

:18:14.:18:19.

circumstance. Your triumph here came at a course which you love.

:18:19.:18:24.

Your record here was pretty good, third and 4th. But is there one

:18:24.:18:29.

deciding factor about this course which separates it from others? How

:18:29.:18:35.

would you characterise it? It is awkward. It is mixed up. I call it

:18:35.:18:38.

three whole segments. You have the first three, straight down the

:18:38.:18:47.

railway line, then a couple of dog legs down four, 5 and 6. Even round

:18:47.:18:50.

the turn, they have lengthened it quite incredibly. The 10th hole is

:18:50.:18:54.

totally different to what we played, and 11 has changed considerably.

:18:54.:18:59.

Then you have be awkward bit. And then you come back to the famous,

:18:59.:19:03.

traditional left-to-right wind that is not here. That was the belter of

:19:03.:19:09.

this golf course. When you had to come in, in that left-to-right wind,

:19:09.:19:15.

hard left to right at 12, then 14, 15, 17 and 18. That was a brute,

:19:15.:19:19.

but when it is like this, it is freedom to play. It may come in

:19:19.:19:24.

tomorrow. Can I just tell everybody why it is so quirky? If you have

:19:24.:19:28.

not been watching for the first couple of days, you may not realise

:19:28.:19:32.

we are quite some distance from the sea. The sea is about 500 yards

:19:32.:19:36.

that way. You have to get some height to appreciate where we are

:19:36.:19:44.

The fantastic thing about all of the courses in the Open

:19:44.:19:47.

Championship is that they all have their own unique identity. So what

:19:47.:19:51.

about Lytham and St Annes, the golf course and the place? The best

:19:51.:19:56.

place to have a look is from up above. One thing that will do them

:19:56.:20:00.

and sedans is famous for is that you do not see the sea. It is

:20:00.:20:05.

surrounded by buildings. -- Royal Lytham and St Annes. But it has the

:20:06.:20:10.

wind and the weather are coming in. It plays like a links course. Even

:20:10.:20:15.

if with the houses around it does not quite look like it. This corner

:20:15.:20:19.

of the north-west coast is famous for its links courses. You have

:20:19.:20:27.

hillside, Southport, Hoylake on the Wirral. It is great golfing country.

:20:27.:20:32.

Lytham and St Annes maybe once municipal borough but it is two

:20:32.:20:37.

different places. Lytham is a medieval plays and St Ann's is a

:20:37.:20:42.

quintessential Victorian purpose- built resort. Because of the

:20:42.:20:49.

railway, lots of people came to take the sea air and play some golf.

:20:49.:20:52.

Blackpool has always been a bit more lively. The pleasure Beach is

:20:53.:20:56.

always an option if you decide not to watch the golf, but if there's

:20:56.:20:59.

one thing that Blackpool is known for, it is the iconic Blackpool

:20:59.:21:07.

Tower. In 1889, the mayor went over to another exposition and saw the

:21:07.:21:11.

Eiffel Tower and decided he would want one. It was built in such a

:21:11.:21:15.

way that if, perish the thought, it should never fall over, it would

:21:15.:21:21.

fall into the sea, which is nice to know. From a history lesson to the

:21:21.:21:25.

present, and it is all about the course. As you look down, you can

:21:25.:21:29.

see how green it is. The other thing you can see is how many

:21:29.:21:33.

bunkers there are. More than any other cause in the Open

:21:33.:21:37.

Championship rota. 206. If you stay out of them, you may have a chance

:21:37.:21:43.

of winning. The history of the coastline is replaced will for

:21:43.:21:45.

pleasure and relaxation. It won't be that way for everybody, but

:21:45.:21:53.

somebody will have the time of their life here on Sunday.

:21:53.:21:57.

Sunday, right now, is a long way away. This is all about Saturday,

:21:57.:22:01.

Moving Day. Was there a strategy that you employed on a Saturday, or

:22:01.:22:05.

was it mainly dependent on the weather? It was very dependent on

:22:05.:22:09.

the weather, with good old Scottish links golf. But you go out and do

:22:09.:22:14.

this. We call it Moving Day by you always try to do the same thing.

:22:14.:22:18.

One thing I have thought about, especially for the youngsters, the

:22:18.:22:23.

first time they are feeling a Saturday like this. It is not a bad

:22:23.:22:27.

day to frighten yourself and see how you react. Do not shoot

:22:27.:22:31.

yourself in the foot, but just enough to think, wow, how important

:22:31.:22:36.

Saturday years, because it is great preparation for Sunday. Sunday, you

:22:36.:22:41.

turn it up a notch. It is the volume control and all the emotions

:22:41.:22:44.

get turned up on Sunday. Saturday is a good day to feel it and take

:22:44.:22:50.

the confidence from it. Padraig Harrington famously said, a normal

:22:50.:22:53.

Sunday is like double the workload of any other day and a major

:22:53.:22:57.

someday is like triple the workload, emotionally and physically. We will

:22:57.:23:02.

see Padraig Harrington going out with Rory McIlroy shortly. What a

:23:02.:23:06.

good draw for the early crowd. But on this Saturday, with no breeze

:23:06.:23:10.

early, will that make a big difference for the later starters?

:23:10.:23:15.

How would it affect the thinking of those going out early? You never

:23:15.:23:19.

know what the weather will do. It is forecast to blow a bit tomorrow

:23:19.:23:22.

and that could start this afternoon. The leaders to knock it out until

:23:22.:23:28.

later. These guys going out at noon, if they could get 64, 65 under

:23:28.:23:34.

their belt - and it is out there. Then they would give the leaders a

:23:35.:23:38.

jolt tomorrow. But all that you can really do, at the end of the day,

:23:38.:23:42.

and all that I ever did, was try to keep doing the same thing. You

:23:42.:23:47.

cannot get clever on these golf courses. And this game, in itself,

:23:47.:23:51.

will always come and put you back on the nose if you get too cute

:23:51.:23:57.

with it. You are stepping very gently. It is a very fine line and

:23:57.:24:02.

you do not want to move far off it. Personally, I tried to do the same

:24:02.:24:06.

things and go through the same routines, and to learn from

:24:06.:24:12.

probably what happened the previous day, the day before that. And just

:24:12.:24:16.

soldier on. As you rightly said, Padraig Harrington's statement was

:24:16.:24:22.

right. Come Sunday, it is all there on your shoulders. Knowing what to

:24:22.:24:27.

do on that morning to keep your mind relaxed and away from it. You

:24:27.:24:33.

do not want to get here too early. It is a business. It is hard, hard

:24:33.:24:38.

work. Padraig Harrington and Rory McIlroy, a terrific partnership.

:24:38.:24:41.

Are there are occasions when you get into a situation with a friend

:24:41.:24:47.

or someone you -- respect, and you can push one another on? They have

:24:47.:24:50.

got freedom today. Anybody heading out a couple of hours before the

:24:50.:24:54.

leaders, they have freedom. They know that if they can let it hang

:24:54.:25:00.

out and just go and play, and put a score on the board, they know it

:25:00.:25:07.

will make a significant difference to tee time tomorrow. They are told

:25:07.:25:10.

shots back. It looks like it could be too much, but you can never tell

:25:10.:25:14.

when conditions are like this. Things are just getting under way

:26:38.:26:43.

:26:43.:26:47.

:26:47.:26:52.

was trying to get rid of, over drawing it. If you chase the flag,

:26:52.:26:56.

this pin on the first is 14 on and five from the left. It leaves such

an awkward little ditch, if you miss on the short side.

here at 10:30am. And why would they not be? I would not be surprised to

:28:18.:28:22.

see some sort of a record today with the conditions that we have.

:28:22.:28:31.

Record crowds, or a record low score? Record crowds. 10 under,

:28:40.:28:44.

been out to look at the flags, and some of them look innocuous, like

:28:44.:28:50.

this one. They are not tight to the edges, but cut on little high spots,

:28:50.:28:54.

very awkward to putt to. Are we going to see a little Seve

:29:37.:29:47.
:29:47.:29:58.

was not a breath of wind. Just a Yes! The greens are rolling

They have been double cut and rolled. They are now considerably

that you have got your touch with a few extra shots on the putting

Rory McIlroy. This is a real test just to get a nice steady three for

yesterday. He had a very intensive practice session. Every shot must

:31:45.:31:53.

have a purpose. He works with Justin Rose. Every shot has some

:31:53.:32:03.
:32:03.:32:19.

work. Next, the great Tom Watson. He got one at about this length

:33:03.:33:12.

demanding shot. You are driving in this area here. It is the most

:33:12.:33:17.

generous area of their way on the golf course. If you can get down to

:36:38.:36:45.

conditions state like this. It is not the sort of course way you can

:36:45.:36:53.

do a round of 65, to do two of them, which the players have got to do,

:36:53.:37:02.

this afternoon, that will be difficult. Brandt Snedeker was in a

:37:02.:37:10.

confident mood yesterday. I Tedi what, I have seen some windy

:37:10.:37:20.
:37:20.:37:20.

conditions here. Graeme McDowell, Matt Kuchar, Paul Lawrie. They have

:37:20.:37:27.

got to do something special for two days. Otherwise, Brandt Snedeker

:37:27.:37:33.

has got to have a miniature collapse. That would probably be a

:37:34.:37:37.

round of 72. That probably sounds ridiculous but that is the way that

:37:37.:37:44.

it is. Anything is possible if you can hit the fairway, hit the green

:37:44.:37:54.
:37:54.:37:55.

and hold your putts. Anti-Europeans mount a challenge? Time will tell.

:37:55.:38:04.

-- can the Europeans. Today promises to be a splendid day. And

:38:05.:38:11.

promises to be a splendid day. And that includes the weather. And we

:38:11.:38:19.

have been joined by a star of the European Ryder Cup. You have been

:38:19.:38:25.

trampling around, how are your feet? I have got to be honest, the

:38:25.:38:31.

sunshine is welcome. We have had a lot of talk about the bunkers. More

:38:31.:38:36.

than 200. They were filled with water in the last couple of days.

:38:36.:38:39.

Graeme McDowell thought that a couple of them were almost

:38:39.:38:49.
:38:49.:38:49.

unplayable. What is your feeling about that? I was actually bear

:38:49.:38:54.

with Rory McIlroy at this stage. We have got somewhere to drop at all

:38:54.:39:00.

of the bunkers. He played from the water instead of taking a free drop.

:39:00.:39:07.

He thought that his best chance was to play from the water. It is very

:39:07.:39:11.

unusual for professionals to face that many bunkers with that much

:39:11.:39:15.

water inside. You might get a couple in a tournament with

:39:15.:39:22.

torrential rain. But we have got two each on many of the holes. You

:39:22.:39:30.

try and stay out of them. That happened on the short par-four 16th.

:39:30.:39:35.

When you are driving, you might expect to get up and down. But when

:39:35.:39:43.

it is filled with water and you are taking a drop, no chance at all. My

:39:43.:39:46.

advice would be to send the caddy out and get him walking around and

:39:46.:39:54.

checking which bunkers have still got water. What is your opinion?

:39:55.:40:02.

is fascinating that it is happening today. I cannot remember flooded

:40:02.:40:09.

bunkers even on a Tour events from years ago. In 1987 we played in

:40:09.:40:14.

Belgium on a golf course that was almost underwater. You could place

:40:14.:40:21.

the ball in woodland and flooded conditions if you wanted to. But it

:40:21.:40:26.

is part of the game and how you deal with it. If you have got

:40:26.:40:35.

somewhere to drop... Sometimes it will stick. Sometimes you can half

:40:35.:40:41.

play it. Keegan Bradley had something like that. The easiest

:40:41.:40:45.

thing is to stay out of that and Brandt Snedeker has done that. So

:40:45.:40:53.

you have followed his progress. A from an admiration point of view,

:40:53.:41:02.

how impressive as that round game? It is incredible to not drop a shot.

:41:02.:41:08.

To not hit any bunkers as well. I do not think anybody thought that

:41:08.:41:13.

was possible. But the conditions have been very kind. It is

:41:13.:41:19.

incredible to have not dropped a shot in two rounds. I have not

:41:19.:41:23.

watched much of him because I have been walking the course with

:41:23.:41:29.

several different players. It is not like it has been perfect golf.

:41:29.:41:37.

He has had a bit of luck. Will that continue? We can reduce some of his

:41:37.:41:42.

work in the past couple of days. -- work in the past couple of days. --

review. American, Brandt Snedeker. Outright lead. I am trying to hit

:41:53.:42:01.

the greens all day. Look at that. am trying to get the greens as fast

:42:01.:42:09.

as possible. Wonderful. I am hoping to be here at the weekend.

:42:09.:42:16.

Beautiful. It does get better and I am playing as well as possible.

:42:16.:42:22.

again. He is on fire. I'd like to have that kind of pressure on me

:42:22.:42:27.

and I am looking forward to the next couple of days. He made it

:42:27.:42:28.

next couple of days. He made it look easy when most others have

:42:28.:42:35.

struggled. You remember him from the PGA Tour and American

:42:35.:42:42.

television. How impressed have you been in general? He is a simple

:42:42.:42:47.

player with a very good swing. I spoke to him in the season and he

:42:47.:42:53.

had been working on shipping and running. I guess he has used that a

:42:53.:42:59.

few times. He has got the classic American game. He can carry on as

:42:59.:43:05.

normal. The weather conditions have been a key factor and that has

:43:05.:43:11.

opened the door for this style of play. Everybody thought coming to a

:43:11.:43:16.

good old English link, it would be hard and bouncy but we have got

:43:16.:43:24.

this. We have got a softer course and it is open to these players.

:43:24.:43:30.

is very engaging. And every time he gets injured, we hat had

:43:30.:43:37.

significant injuries, he was even on crutches at Christmas, he comes

:43:37.:43:47.
:43:47.:43:47.

back and wins. He has heard his ribs before. -- injured. But he can

:43:47.:43:53.

come out and win. What is going to happen this week? Everybody is

:43:53.:43:58.

curious to find out how players like Brandt Snedeker will be

:43:58.:44:04.

getting on if the weather changes. Wind is forecast to Morris. What

:44:04.:44:11.

impact will that make? -- tomorrow. I did not think the winning score

:44:11.:44:17.

will get much past where we have got to now. 10-under par could win

:44:17.:44:24.

the Championship. With wind tomorrow, I cannot see anybody

:44:24.:44:31.

making a pass. It is not an easy task. Eight level par probably gets

:44:31.:44:37.

the job done. We can have a reminder of the progress of Adam

:44:37.:44:47.
:44:47.:44:50.

reminder of the progress of Adam Scott. A beautiful swing. 32-year-

:44:50.:44:58.

old Adam Scott. When he had taken a couple of players championships, we

:44:58.:45:04.

thought he would have taken the open by now. A fantastic and

:45:04.:45:07.

tremendous round. Maybe he can tremendous round. Maybe he can

:45:08.:45:14.

fulfil his dream this week. Fulfil a dream and his potential. That is

:45:14.:45:20.

the question we have been asking. Is he ready for that breakthrough?

:45:20.:45:24.

I would have thought so. The Masters last year, he was right

:45:24.:45:31.

there. I am talking about him climbing the ladder and getting a

:45:31.:45:37.

feel for the whole experience of playing with the best in the Majors.

:45:37.:45:46.

A couple of weeks ago, he was in Washington. When Tiger Woods won,

:45:46.:45:52.

he had a good round last Sunday. But he fell off at the last. It did

:45:52.:45:57.

not quite happened. It's it is something like that that can happen

:45:57.:46:04.

almost away from the cameras. It can either be scary, awe-inspiring.

:46:04.:46:10.

I think he knows where he went wrong. We have marvelled at his

:46:11.:46:16.

game and his golf swing is fantastic. We have talked about him

:46:17.:46:22.

working into the breeze and he does that pewter plate. If it goes away,

:46:22.:46:28.

he can block it a bit. But on paper he is the player that has got all

:46:28.:46:38.
:46:38.:46:40.

Peter did -- credentials. I have done commentary for a bout eight

:46:40.:46:47.

years. -- about. He is a great player and we want him to give it a

:46:47.:46:54.

bit of effort. And his mentor said that he has got the talent and that

:46:54.:47:00.

he has got to get on with it. He played very well last year and he

:47:00.:47:03.

caused a lot of fireworks with comments afterwards and he said he

:47:03.:47:09.

felt great. He has gone quite again and perhaps this is the moment. We

:47:09.:47:17.

might get the ultimate pairing tomorrow. You have been inside the

:47:17.:47:21.

roads in the past couple of days. What interaction have we had

:47:21.:47:30.

between him and b Caddick? Is it a team situation? Very much so. I

:47:31.:47:37.

actually asked about the Major champion and he called and said

:47:37.:47:43.

congratulations. Some of the shots he did yesterday, more than 300

:47:43.:47:50.

yards and 50 yards past that could chart on the 5th. Not many players

:47:50.:47:58.

out there can do that. -- Matt Kuchar. He has got a very safe

:47:58.:48:02.

strategy on many of the holes, like Tiger Woods and he has got 14 Major

:48:02.:48:08.

titles. They have been playing very conservatively. We have talked

:48:08.:48:11.

about Tiger Woods playing that way and just finding the spot on the

:48:11.:48:16.

fairway at plotting his way around. He has done the perfect mix of that

:48:16.:48:23.

and used power. I call it getting the right intensity. Yet in the

:48:23.:48:28.

engine going. I think Steve Williams has helped him to lift at

:48:28.:48:34.

a little bit and then find the right level. You are comfortable

:48:34.:48:37.

them with how you do things. You cannot push people to do things

:48:37.:48:42.

that they are not happy with. He has encouraged him but kept him

:48:42.:48:47.

relaxed as well. The important thing is to keep that going on

:48:47.:48:52.

Saturday and Sunday and Stainby same. You cannot have a new game

:48:52.:48:59.

plan. And he is at the sharp end at the moment. We mentioned Tiger

:48:59.:49:04.

Woods and he is there once again it. This was like the old Tiger Woods.

:49:04.:49:11.

Both he looked a bit displeased after this bunker. But back to his

:49:11.:49:18.

best? He is the danger man. We can see that he has got real

:49:18.:49:24.

determination. He really wanted that one. He was looking at the

:49:24.:49:30.

leaderboard and wanting to stay in touch. He is out there in a good

:49:30.:49:34.

frame of mind. And we have been talking about the weather

:49:34.:49:43.

conditions. That has really helped Tiger Woods. Sometimes he does not

:49:43.:49:51.

like that hard wind. He has gone into a new strategy. He does not

:49:51.:49:57.

like the driver. That is the weakest club in his back. When he

:49:57.:50:04.

gets an opportunity to throttle back, he will do that. I remember

:50:04.:50:13.

at Royal Liverpool he was with the two-iron all week. He is in his

:50:13.:50:20.

comfort zone and he is avoiding the driver. Sometimes you have got to

:50:20.:50:25.

have the longer game and that will be interesting. I hope they will

:50:25.:50:32.

get that. We have had that through our careers. In the amateur

:50:32.:50:39.

tournaments and the Ryder Cups. I hope they get a taste of the wind.

:50:39.:50:46.

We talk about following Tiger Woods in the United States. You are a

:50:46.:50:50.

contemporary of his. But what do the Americans think about his

:50:50.:50:59.

progress? A very warm welcome to the media centre. Or we have got

:50:59.:51:04.

the great and the good of the world's Press. We have got

:51:04.:51:08.

television screens to tell us exactly what is happening and we

:51:08.:51:15.

will get an American perspective. How are you? A I could not be any

:51:15.:51:20.

better. The third round of the Open is as good as it gets. The man at

:51:20.:51:27.

the top is doing well, Brandt Snedeker. Surprising? Yes, and now.

:51:27.:51:35.

He has not played that well in the past 36 holes. He has not made any

:51:35.:51:42.

bogey and he has not hit any bunker. But he has been hitting the wrath.

:51:42.:51:49.

He has been making it a bit easier. I am not sure if his luck will

:51:49.:51:56.

continue but he is a quality player. Elsewhere, Jason Dufner and Tiger

:51:56.:52:00.

Woods. You have heard of him before and he will be a significant

:52:00.:52:09.

challenger. I predicted that he would win. But I said to listeners

:52:09.:52:16.

if they wanted an outsider, Jason Dufner. I am looking like a genius,

:52:16.:52:21.

but that can change! I fully expected Tiger Woods to win before

:52:21.:52:29.

it started. His mission in round three is to get into the final two.

:52:29.:52:34.

That is what he wants and if he can do that, I am sure that he can take

:52:34.:52:41.

care of business on Sunday. across the pond, how has the opened

:52:41.:52:47.

:52:47.:52:54.

picture, coverage is energised. We have got a lot of viewers back home

:52:54.:53:01.

wanting to be part of it. This is the 15th title that he is going for.

:53:01.:53:06.

Within three of Jack Nicklaus. He has worked hard to get back his

:53:06.:53:14.

game. His game plan has been impeccable. He has hit the fairway

:53:14.:53:19.

and has been aiming for places on the green. Some people would call

:53:19.:53:26.

it a very conservative approach but it is working for him. A It is

:53:55.:54:00.

:54:05.:54:09.

:54:09.:54:15.

McDowell. What is the danger is a cannot keep up with the suspected

:54:15.:54:22.

progress of today's leaders? They have got a couple of rounds left

:54:22.:54:27.

and they are six behind. They have got to play great golf. They can

:54:27.:54:32.

easily get in trouble if they do not play well at the start. They

:54:32.:54:36.

have got to get 4-under par in these wonderful conditions to be in

:54:36.:54:42.

touch. I thought Graeme McDowell has really got it with the Major

:54:42.:54:48.

titles. He came close again at the US Open. He fancies these Major

:54:48.:54:53.

championships. The wind has not been blowing. Tomorrow he could

:54:53.:55:02.

come into his own. How impressive have you been? Paul Lawrie have --

:55:02.:55:05.

has been climbing back up the rankings and it has been a

:55:05.:55:13.

remarkable. It has been a bit tongue-in-cheek, the way that he

:55:13.:55:23.
:55:23.:55:23.

has been viewed by people. I spoke To him in the clubhouse earlier in

:55:23.:55:31.

the season and he is confident. He understands how well he is playing.

:55:31.:55:37.

He has worked with Graeme McDowell and he has been very confident. He

:55:37.:55:42.

has been discussing shots and his confidence is very high and you

:55:42.:55:46.

have got to have that and they have scrambled very well and they are

:55:46.:55:52.

prepared to knuckle down. They had a great start against. Graeme

:55:52.:55:56.

McDowell, it does not matter how pretty the Scott looks on the

:55:56.:56:03.

scorecard. He could not care less how it happens. If he is in the

:56:03.:56:07.

rough but he gets it up and down, you have got to be relentless and

:56:07.:56:10.

keep doing that all day long if that is the way that you make a

:56:11.:56:17.

score. Plenty of scrambling and that is important at Royal Lytham.

:56:17.:56:24.

He is terrific at that from 100 yards in a month, Luke Donald. So

:56:24.:56:30.

it fizzled out a little bit. But from eight shots back, what are the

:56:30.:56:38.

possibilities for him? He could get a round of 66 and get 6-under par

:56:38.:56:42.

with bad weather conditions tomorrow. But he has got to get it

:56:42.:56:47.

done today. I cannot see anybody coming from 10 shots back like Paul

:56:48.:56:54.

Lawrie at Carnoustie will stop we are --. We are not talking carnage

:56:54.:57:02.

yet! We have been talking to the people that have worked with the

:57:02.:57:08.

leaders and they do not think that they will fall by the wayside.

:57:08.:57:13.

before the storm perhaps. Many possibilities lie ahead today. It

:57:13.:57:18.

is a gentle spot behind the 18th with the Dorney house and the old

:57:18.:57:28.
:57:28.:57:31.

We can have a little wander into the clubhouse at Royal Lytham. This

:57:31.:57:39.

is the storage area. These people are the guardians of the equipment.

:57:39.:57:45.

I cannot take anything or they will get me in a big head lock! We have

:57:45.:57:50.

got about 1 million worth of equipment and it must be very well

:57:50.:57:58.

protected. This is Mark Calcavecchia's. A we can see that

:57:58.:58:04.

golf is all about innovation and technology. But we have still got

:58:04.:58:11.

the old wages, take on the back. About 30 years old. This belongs to

:58:11.:58:21.
:58:21.:58:22.

Graeme McDowell. He is carrying three sand wedges this week. That

:58:22.:58:28.

is the bouncing angle that he has got written on the back. In the

:58:28.:58:35.

corner, Steve Stricker. One of the best putters in the world. I wonder

:58:35.:58:42.

how many shots have been made of that in the past few years?

:58:42.:58:48.

Everybody has got a special piece of equipment this week with the

:58:48.:58:54.

course, Royal Lytham, written on the bottom. They will be

:58:54.:58:58.

disappearing to a different venue next week. This is the man that

:58:58.:59:04.

everybody has been talking about, be a leader, Brandt Snedeker. This

:59:04.:59:10.

is the business so far. The only driver used this week. It has not

:59:10.:59:18.

yet hit a single bunker. But what about this weekend? And that is why

:59:18.:59:28.

you never left your clubs in a locker room! Somebody went into my

:59:28.:59:33.

bag and was messing about with my putter. I would have said to him if

:59:33.:59:43.
:59:43.:59:44.

I had seen him, get out of that! think that he will live to fight

:59:45.:59:50.

another day. Thank you very much. It has been fascinating to pick

:59:50.:59:56.

your brains. We are heading to commentary. David, you were out

:59:56.:00:02.

with Tiger Woods today. Have a great date. We can Hands you to

:00:02.:00:12.
:00:12.:00:24.

Fascinating conversations there from the three players. Harrington

:00:24.:00:34.
:00:34.:00:41.

little bit. Everybody talks about it being a perfect day, but the

:00:41.:00:45.

wind has got up in the last couple of hours. Yesterday, when the sky

:00:45.:00:49.

was grey, there was a little bit of wind. Not as much as today. And

:00:49.:00:59.
:00:59.:01:03.

that played to them. So I wonder back somebody could come from to

:01:03.:01:08.

win this. In 2001, David Duval was seven shots behind Montgomerie at

:01:08.:01:12.

the halfway stage. So it is possible, but I suppose it depends

:01:12.:01:17.

a lot on the conditions. It is very much possible if you hit the greens

:01:17.:01:21.

and make the putts. But the course is set up in such a way that

:01:21.:01:26.

anything under par, 70, is a very good score, and you have to do it

:01:26.:01:32.

twice. You need a remarkable two rounds, to get a couple of 66s. I

:01:32.:01:35.

have a feeling you have to do that if you're going to come up from

:01:35.:01:45.
:01:45.:01:50.

all smiles in the montage, but here he is on this hole, which comes

:01:50.:01:54.

back towards the clubhouse. You play the first three alongside the

:01:54.:01:58.

railway. And a sizable number of the early morning gallery are with

:01:58.:02:08.
:02:08.:02:09.

this match. McIlroy and Harrington playing together. Just a couple of

:02:09.:02:16.

bunkers to avoid, as ever. 257 to a bunker down the left, and there is

:02:16.:02:26.
:02:26.:02:26.

one at 296 on the right. That is yesterday, after a battling 67 in

:03:23.:03:33.
:03:33.:03:53.

he was yesterday, until he was struck down with an eight at the

:03:53.:04:01.

7th. Four shots gone in one. Lovely to see the crowds in shirtsleeves

:04:01.:04:07.

today. Shirt sleeve order, we used to say. After all the doom and

:04:07.:04:17.
:04:17.:04:18.

gloom of the first two days. Gonzalez Fernandez-Castano. This is

:04:18.:04:27.

his putting grip these days. It has helped him. One of the best ball

:04:27.:04:37.
:04:37.:04:40.

strikers from tee to green, near excitement will unfold in a few

:04:40.:04:45.

hours. Ken has been having a look. On the 18th green, the pin today is

:04:45.:04:50.

in the back right-hand portion, in a gathering area, not too bad. Just

:04:50.:04:54.

to the right, one of these bunkers. If you go in there, it is an

:04:54.:04:57.

awkward bunker shot because the slope is running away from you.

:04:57.:05:03.

Quite some time before the leaders tee off. Snedeker at 1:30pm. One

:05:03.:05:06.

thing that all of the players will do when they come off the first,

:05:06.:05:09.

they will pick up a pin position Sheikh. When you look at it, it

:05:09.:05:15.

looks innocuous, but he's -- each one is in a devious spot. On 18, 35

:05:15.:05:23.

on, five from the right hand side. Not a bad spot. If you get a bit of

:05:23.:05:28.

a flyer, the out of bounds is not far away. Sorry, the club house is

:05:28.:05:32.

not too far behind and could leave an awkward shot. So the pin sheet

:05:32.:05:41.

is absolutely vital. Gary Player up against the club house in 1974 had

:05:42.:05:51.
:05:52.:06:00.

to play left-handed on his way to 4th, in a bit of trouble. He may be

:06:00.:06:04.

in trouble, but he has actually found a pretty decent lie and he

:06:04.:06:09.

has a superb view of the green. So I think he has caught a bit of a

:06:09.:06:13.

lucky break. He can get the club on the back of the ball. There will be

:06:13.:06:18.

a whisper of grass obscuring his vision of the ball. He has quite a

:06:18.:06:24.

distance to go. The pin is tucked on the left-hand side. Quite a

:06:24.:06:27.

steep slope up to the green, but he will be hoping to pitch this right

:06:27.:06:34.

hand corner. Am expecting this to release up the green a little bit

:06:34.:06:41.

from the sort of lie that he has got. They have don the maths. --

:06:41.:06:47.

they have done the maths. He is just moving the marshal a side. It

:06:47.:06:52.

is a seven iron. He obviously has a good lie. Nick Faldo has joined us

:06:52.:07:02.
:07:02.:07:10.

in the commentary box. Thank you, trundle up the front edge. There

:07:10.:07:20.
:07:20.:07:49.

It augurs well for a bit of breeze the green from there. It sounded

:07:49.:07:54.

like he was requesting it to come down. It has just hung on to the

:07:54.:08:04.
:08:04.:08:07.

weather, the course is magnificently prepared. I had a

:08:07.:08:12.

Tour this morning. The bunkers are clean and sharp. It looks

:08:12.:08:16.

magnificent out there, apart from putting the score on your score

:08:16.:08:22.

card! The problem was where the spectators were, with the heavy

:08:22.:08:27.

rain a couple of nights ago. It is the bunkers to the left of the 17th

:08:27.:08:32.

that are still holding a little bit of water. It has been a problem.

:08:32.:08:36.

Yesterday, we saw a couple of people having to take drops. So

:08:36.:08:44.

unfortunate. I just wonder whether, they have been looking at so many

:08:44.:08:49.

rules, adjusting them for the fairness of the game. That is one

:08:49.:08:52.

of them that you question whether you could place it in the bunker,

:08:52.:08:56.

if you could find your spot, because everybody knows you are at

:08:56.:09:01.

a serious disadvantage having to drop the ball and it is guaranteed

:09:01.:09:07.

to plug. That is where Keegan Bradley was yesterday. It has dried

:09:07.:09:14.

up a bit, but he played out of the water yesterday. Again, bearing in

:09:15.:09:18.

mind the amount of water we have had not just in the last week, but

:09:18.:09:24.

over the last 20 years or so, it feels like. It has been a hard

:09:24.:09:34.
:09:34.:09:39.

spring. That is why we have long Westwood. Playing alongside Tom

:09:39.:09:45.

Watson today. He would have expected to be a lot later in the

:09:46.:09:54.

day going into the weekend. Was it Watson's putt last night on 18 that

:09:54.:10:01.

got the plus threes in? I believe it was just about that. It was

:10:01.:10:09.

certainly special for a lot of the three over players. It was great to

:10:09.:10:13.

see what son doing that, after missing a short one at 17 as well.

:10:13.:10:18.

It is brilliant at 62, how he comes to the majors, Watson, and makes

:10:18.:10:24.

the cut. That is impressive in itself. It is more than impressive.

:10:24.:10:34.
:10:34.:10:40.

That was a double bogey. He had an injury to his right hand. He has

:10:40.:10:45.

not got much strength, which makes it all the more incredible. Rory is

:10:45.:10:55.

just off the green. I would always get someone to tend the flag, just

:10:55.:11:05.
:11:05.:11:05.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 56 seconds

yesterday after his round. Send us two would be playing together at

:11:55.:12:01.

the weekend but a little further up the leaderboard. That is how to

:12:01.:12:11.
:12:11.:12:20.

warm up your rotator cuff. Spot the off. That is one way of burning

:12:20.:12:30.
:12:30.:13:05.

The first dropped shot of the day. He slips back to three over. The US

:13:05.:13:10.

PGA might be more of a links in terms of wind than this. Yes, very

:13:10.:13:14.

similar in the fact that it has a famous prevailing wind left to

:13:14.:13:18.

right. You start the first couple of holes, the first three, in to

:13:19.:13:22.

left to right and turn it a right angle on the 4th and play the hard

:13:22.:13:26.

left to right. By that time you have meandered away, you work your

:13:26.:13:34.

way back and turn back into the wind for the last six holes. I

:13:34.:13:38.

thought that would be very similar to here. But we have not had the

:13:38.:13:45.

true prevailing wind picking up this week. Harrington, a couple of

:13:45.:13:55.
:13:55.:14:16.

shots better than McIlroy at the are first off, on your own, go on

:14:16.:14:20.

your own because you can just get on with it. But if you are in the

:14:20.:14:23.

middle of the field and you lose your playing partner for whatever

:14:23.:14:29.

reason, take a marker with you, just to slow you down and fitted

:14:29.:14:34.

with the pace of play for the day. Many the assistant pro has been

:14:34.:14:41.

hauled out a to be told they are playing in the Open. That is a

:14:41.:14:46.

nerve-racking moment. No real preparation for that. Lee Westwood

:14:46.:14:56.
:14:56.:15:02.

at 16. Ouch! Maybe a wedge in your hand off a links turf. That is

:15:02.:15:12.
:15:12.:15:18.

tough to do. The fifth is playing right. The green falls off left and

:15:18.:15:25.

right. Very close to the bunkers on the right hand side. Quite a wide

:15:25.:15:35.
:15:35.:15:36.

green. But it is a teasing flag position. Six iron for Padraig.

:15:36.:15:46.
:15:46.:15:54.

breeze. Fortunate just to miss the long stuff. It looks like Rory has

:15:55.:16:04.
:16:05.:16:26.

his range of motion. It looks like that is left. He did not judge that

:16:26.:16:34.

one well. It is a swing that many would like to copy but it is not

:16:34.:16:38.

physically possible for most people. If you get the numbers on his hip

:16:38.:16:43.

action, he basically moves his hips twice as fast as anybody and twice

:16:43.:16:49.

as far. This is one of the areas, when it is on song, it is

:16:49.:16:54.

incredible. Early in the season, he was hitting three woods 350 yards,

:16:55.:16:59.

and more. But when it gets out of timing, his right knee moves too

:16:59.:17:05.

early, and all have that extra motion is very difficult to get

:17:05.:17:09.

consistency in two. I think that is really what has been happening for

:17:09.:17:15.

most of this season with Rory. After his win in Florida in the

:17:15.:17:19.

early season, we thought he was off and running. I am sure he is

:17:19.:17:22.

puzzled as well that he cannot quite get his finger on it, cannot

:17:22.:17:28.

get the timing right. Westwood on the back of the 16th, one under for

:17:28.:17:38.
:17:38.:17:38.

his round for today. Classic! He shut the club face, coming out of

:17:38.:17:48.
:17:48.:18:08.

picks you up a little when you roll in one of those early on. Playing

:18:09.:18:12.

alongside a bright American prospect, Harris English, two over

:18:12.:18:22.
:18:22.:18:28.

for the Championship who has game which has been well

:18:28.:18:38.
:18:38.:19:01.

face. Exactly. With a wedge in your hand, misjudged that. McIlroy,

:19:02.:19:10.

short of the fifth, after a misjudgement off the tee. He made

:19:10.:19:20.
:19:20.:19:30.

that bite. He was not looking for has a little bit of green to play

:19:30.:19:36.

with. Coming off the shoulder of the bunker though. Padraig loves

:19:36.:19:42.

these. Anything where he has to conjure up something different from

:19:42.:19:49.

the norm. He has done it the old- fashioned way. He practices four

:19:49.:19:59.
:19:59.:20:13.

hours and hours on chipping greens He probably fancied it. How far

:20:13.:20:18.

past was it going. You pretend you're disappointed, but secretly,

:20:18.:20:28.
:20:28.:20:39.

you were doing a little jig. In for last PGA Championship, his third

:20:39.:20:47.

major win. When we talk about the last 15 majors having been won by

:20:47.:20:52.

different players, that goes back to his PGA win in 2008. A lot of

:20:53.:20:57.

things changing since then for him. Tried to change his swing and ended

:20:57.:21:04.

his association. He seems to be coming back. He looks good. The

:21:04.:21:08.

quality of his shot-making is right there. His short game is good. The

:21:08.:21:16.

only occasional, he just loses his temper with the putter. -- his

:21:16.:21:26.
:21:26.:21:34.

off a really straightforward shot down the par three. The last thing

:21:34.:21:40.

he was thinking of was coming up short and making a four. I was

:21:40.:21:44.

amazed I did not realise that now they move to the 6th, a par four.

:21:44.:21:53.

It was always a par five back in my day. That is a pretty daunting hole.

:21:53.:22:03.
:22:03.:22:13.

It is almost like he has a high jumper, who rocks backwards and

:22:13.:22:23.
:22:23.:22:23.

forwards, deciding when to start the run up. It is a long walk down

:22:23.:22:31.

to the 6th tee. Harrington and McIlroy. It is a bit of a horror,

:22:31.:22:41.

the 6th. Although Tiger Woods yesterday hit two-iron, seven-iron.

:22:41.:22:48.

That is what happens on the links. If you can hit the right shape, a

:22:48.:22:52.

good caddie can plot weather down slopes are on the fair ways. If you

:22:52.:22:56.

need to throttle back, grab a two- iron, landed on the downslope, it

:22:56.:23:04.

goes just about as far as a driver would go. This is a great view. If

:23:04.:23:07.

you can turn a little draw round the corner, plenty of rough down

:23:07.:23:17.
:23:17.:23:19.

the left side. Lots of bunkers. The front left bunker looks pretty

:23:19.:23:23.

daunting. It really pops up a good couple of feet above the green

:23:23.:23:33.
:23:33.:23:34.

surface. So that is a tough flag to work. Two draws. Draw one off the

:23:34.:23:37.

tee, and your second shot from the middle of the green towards the

:23:37.:23:41.

flag. Just a club to make sure he stays short of the couple of

:23:42.:23:51.
:23:52.:24:19.

tight second shot. The big decision on whether you can carry it across

:24:19.:24:25.

those two left and bunkers, the left-hand side of the green. Rory

:24:25.:24:28.

is going to give him something special and turn one right round

:24:28.:24:38.
:24:38.:25:09.

There was a caddie at 290, and they were applauding back on the tee.

:25:09.:25:17.

That is not always a true indicator. Is that it? Down on the right hand

:25:17.:25:27.
:25:27.:25:31.

wonderful 17th. I went down and looked at the tee position. It is

:25:31.:25:37.

almost down in the hospitality area. It is so deep. And then it is so

:25:37.:25:43.

flat, this hole. They have actually lowered the bunkers. My main

:25:43.:25:47.

comment on this, it is so difficult to get depth perception on the 17th.

:25:47.:25:57.
:25:57.:26:00.

The green sits in the middle of the golf course. It cuts out the vision

:26:00.:26:06.

completely. So Tom Watson is going to pick a chimney someone on the

:26:06.:26:16.
:26:16.:26:38.

horizon. -- somewhere on the hit it true and found the right

:26:38.:26:45.

line. He just about had. A bit of a struggle today. Mine over for the

:26:45.:26:49.

Championship and as it stands he is heading for an early tee off with

:26:49.:26:53.

John Daly. -- nine over for the Championship. He might want to make

:26:53.:27:03.

a couple of birdies. The trousers might look very similar to those.

:27:03.:27:11.

Probably joined together. Diamonds on diamonds. I think they should

:27:11.:27:18.

swap caps. There you go. There is the man himself. Playing with Chad

:27:18.:27:23.

Campbell today. Eight over and nine over respectively, Campbell and

:27:23.:27:28.

Daly. I wondered where my shower curtain went missing from my room

:27:28.:27:38.
:27:38.:27:45.

back a couple of feet. The greens have certainly dried out a little

:27:45.:27:51.

bit, and just enough. It is amazing, on the links, it does not take long.

:27:51.:27:58.

Basically, once it has stopped raining, it is drying out. Heading

:27:58.:28:03.

towards drought, and then it turns round and comes back again. Birdie

:28:03.:28:13.
:28:13.:28:17.

for Vijay Singh, getting back to a few exuberant stretchers. Let's

:28:17.:28:27.

Great to see you on this beautiful day, the third round, the business

:28:27.:28:33.

end of the competition. How are you feeling? I am feeling good. I have

:28:33.:28:36.

put it in position over the first couple of days and I now need to

:28:36.:28:40.

take advantage of that. If we can go out there and hit lots of

:28:40.:28:44.

fairways and greens, I am going to have lots of chances and I just

:28:44.:28:49.

need to take some of them. Some ground to make up, but in the Open

:28:49.:28:51.

Championship there is a history of players have your calibre doing

:28:51.:28:56.

that. We have seen it in the past, but we have not seen this weather,

:28:56.:29:03.

in terms of how calm it is. We have seen 10 shots switch around before,

:29:03.:29:09.

10-12 years ago, but the weather was blustery. Hopefully, we will

:29:09.:29:14.

get a strong breeze this afternoon and we can try to cut through some

:29:14.:29:17.

of that deficit. Have you ever played in an Open that has changed

:29:17.:29:21.

so much in terms of the weather at this point? I do not think I have

:29:21.:29:25.

played any Open which has been quite like this in terms of the

:29:25.:29:30.

weather. They have got the forecast wrong all week. How benign it has

:29:30.:29:35.

been for two days, and it is still just a light breeze. You are raring

:29:35.:29:39.

to go, still in the hunt. Looking at what sort of score by the end of

:29:39.:29:43.

the day? I do not know, let's see how it goes. I would like to eat

:29:43.:29:46.

into some of the shots that I am behind and see what happens

:29:46.:29:56.
:29:56.:29:57.

tomorrow. Good luck. Have a good best of brotherhood of man. Did you

:29:57.:30:03.

He had Elvis Presley in his ears. I Harrington. He did all right. He

:33:21.:33:28.

He gets away with that. But when he is not doing that, getting a double

:33:28.:33:36.

bogey, triple bogey, he is amazing. That is my favourite. You cannot

:33:36.:33:44.

back to cycling, they had gone and they left me up the road. They had
