Welcome to Glasgow for World Cup gymnastics. This is a city bracing

:00:42.:00:48.

itself to hold two years of sport. The Commonwealth Games start in

:00:49.:00:53.

eight months, and in 2015, the World Gymnastics Championships will be

:00:54.:00:57.

here. For 2013, the British team have had yet another year to

:00:58.:00:59.

remember. Well, it is the Emirates Arena

:01:00.:01:46.

hosting the competition. Joining me is Beth Tweddle and Dan, it is great

:01:47.:01:55.

to see you. Let's get some context, how does the World Cup series fit

:01:56.:02:03.

into the gymnasts' year? They'd take the top eight from the previous

:02:04.:02:06.

championships, there are four competitions, at the end of the year

:02:07.:02:10.

they add up the points to get an overall winner. What kind of kudos

:02:11.:02:17.

does this have? It is a great honour to be invited, and for the

:02:18.:02:20.

spectators it is watching the top eight gymnasts. But it is an

:02:21.:02:27.

all-around title, you can't specify. All the gymnasts will compete on

:02:28.:02:31.

every piece of operators. Yourself, nobody is more qualified to talk

:02:32.:02:35.

about it than yourself, a silver at the World Championships, but how

:02:36.:02:41.

different is it doing the all-around compared to the individual

:02:42.:02:45.

apparatus? A lot harder. Lots more pressure on each piece, if you have

:02:46.:02:50.

one mistake it can all be over. The training is a lot more difficult.

:02:51.:02:54.

You are not just doing one piece of apparatus, you have to try to get

:02:55.:02:59.

around all six. Looking ahead to the Commonwealth Games, you have gone

:03:00.:03:02.

back into training for the all-around? Yes, it is going well,

:03:03.:03:08.

it is hard, it is difficult to get everything back. I am used now to

:03:09.:03:13.

just doing one, two or three pieces of operators, it is a lot more

:03:14.:03:18.

intense. I guess you did not realise how difficult it was before? I took

:03:19.:03:25.

for granted how used to it I was. Bowing down to three pieces and then

:03:26.:03:28.

going back is really tough, but it is going well. And, best, you have

:03:29.:03:34.

said you are retired, but you are still kind of training? -- and, Beth

:03:35.:03:42.

Tweddle, you have said? I am doing a gymnastics show in the states. It is

:03:43.:03:50.

really difficult to walk away. You have still got strapping around your

:03:51.:03:53.

ankle, even in that beautiful dress, it is good to see! Well we were

:03:54.:03:58.

researching last night, Beth Tweddle went out on the town to get insight

:03:59.:04:05.

into who to look out for. There is a very strong women's

:04:06.:04:08.

field. My three to watch the necessary RE, Larisa Iordache and

:04:09.:04:16.

Elizabeth Price. -- my three to watch our Vanessa Ferrari. Elizabeth

:04:17.:04:21.

Price is so dynamic. She was the winner last year. I am confident I

:04:22.:04:27.

can do my best. I have trained really hard. I am sure it will come

:04:28.:04:32.

out neck and neck to see who will win. Larisa Iordache is a very

:04:33.:04:41.

experienced international gymnast, fresh from success at the World

:04:42.:04:44.

Championships this year. She will be looking to take the title. Her

:04:45.:04:49.

weakest apparatus is bars, but she loves being on the floor. Vanessa

:04:50.:04:54.

Ferrari has a wealth of international experience, a former

:04:55.:04:58.

world and European champion looking to fight for the title this weekend.

:04:59.:05:03.

She is powerful and consistent, I would say her favourite apparatus is

:05:04.:05:09.

the floor. We still have that might time vibe,

:05:10.:05:13.

because the lights have gone out! You will nail your colours to the

:05:14.:05:19.

mast, Elizabeth Price is the winner? It will be tough between her and

:05:20.:05:24.

Iordache, there was only 0.3 between them last weekend. She gets a medal

:05:25.:05:31.

in every competition. She sometimes has difficulty with consistency,

:05:32.:05:38.

Price has consistency on the site. What about the British girls? We

:05:39.:05:47.

have a great set up for them. It is a great experience on the big stage,

:05:48.:05:51.

an opportunity to compete with the world's best. There is a great

:05:52.:05:58.

opportunity for Raer Theaker. Let's hear from her and Ruby Harrold. I

:05:59.:06:05.

have two internationals, two in Switzerland and one year, and they

:06:06.:06:09.

are both World Cup is, they are high, international level gymnasts

:06:10.:06:16.

competing. I think I have prepared well enough so I am confident, but I

:06:17.:06:20.

am scared because it is sold out and in front of a home crowd. I don't

:06:21.:06:27.

expect anything massive from this, but it is experience for the

:06:28.:06:30.

Commonwealth next year, it is good to be in Glasgow.

:06:31.:06:36.

I overcame a lot of injury last year, so to make three European

:06:37.:06:41.

finals was fantastic. To do my first World Championships and then make an

:06:42.:06:44.

all-around final and an apparatus final was mind blowing. Then to be

:06:45.:06:49.

asked to do two world cups at the end of the year was fantastic. It

:06:50.:06:54.

has been a good year. It was interesting talking to Ruby, this is

:06:55.:06:58.

the end of a very, very long year and she is tired. She is. She has

:06:59.:07:05.

had an amazing year. European final, world final, she has picked up so

:07:06.:07:08.

much experience. She has another three years to keep working, leading

:07:09.:07:13.

into Rio, so competitions are a great way to finish. Quite an

:07:14.:07:19.

exciting end to the year, the setup feels epic? Yes, it is a really good

:07:20.:07:27.

stadium, it feels like World Championships, the atmosphere is

:07:28.:07:31.

amazing. As the competition progresses, the winner will be going

:07:32.:07:38.

last. Psychologically, how does that affect things? It can be a lot more

:07:39.:07:44.

pressure, normally you would move one step up, but these gymnasts are

:07:45.:07:51.

experienced, but it is exciting for the audience because they know who

:07:52.:07:56.

is in the lead. Dan, you just have to do your own thing? You have to

:07:57.:08:02.

block everything and concentrate on performance. I think the hardest

:08:03.:08:05.

thing will be if you are in first place and you have a really good

:08:06.:08:10.

piece, -- bad piece, you could end up going first next time. It is nice

:08:11.:08:14.

to stand back and watch the competition, we will hand over to

:08:15.:08:20.

our commentators, Mitch Fenner and Christine Still.

:08:21.:08:26.

Elizabeth Price has to be the favourite. She is great at World Cup

:08:27.:08:33.

gymnastics. But strong challengers from Vanessa Ferrari and Larisa

:08:34.:08:38.

Iordache. She is a great prospect from Romania and she is still very

:08:39.:08:44.

young -- a great prospect from Hungary.

:08:45.:08:47.

Asuka Teramoto goes first. 17 years old, ninth all round in the

:08:48.:09:05.

2013 World Championships. The first operators is the vault. 1.5 twists.

:09:06.:09:15.

She is a tiny gymnast and that was a big, impressive vault.

:09:16.:09:23.

If you are going to twist, you have to get your shoulders up when you

:09:24.:09:27.

hit the deck. She was a little bit low. She was a tiny bit off-line.

:09:28.:09:33.

She is off-line, the shoulders were down. The landing will be expensive.

:09:34.:09:49.

No introduction necessary, I'm sure, for Vanessa Ferrari. What a classy

:09:50.:09:56.

gymnast she is. Spanning almost a decade at top level.

:09:57.:10:10.

That was a lovely 1.5 twist, just a step on landing. Hi, well performed.

:10:11.:10:26.

-- high, well performed. Good contact, very clean. Very

:10:27.:10:34.

determined. Lost a bit of form from her legs, they were a bit bent.

:10:35.:10:52.

Ruby Harrold from Great Britain. 17th all round in the World

:10:53.:11:01.

Championships in Antwerp in 2013. She made the bars final and would

:11:02.:11:06.

love to have a good, solid vault this time. Beautiful lift,

:11:07.:11:11.

full-twist, just one twist, not so highly terraced, but a very high and

:11:12.:11:17.

clean. Just limits one pays to the side mad landing. -- just limits one

:11:18.:11:24.

Vaughan to the side on that landing. That is the sort of start she would

:11:25.:11:36.

want. When it is not that difficult, you need that type of execution.

:11:37.:11:55.

Roxana Popa Nedelcu from Spain. 12 all-around in the World

:11:56.:12:09.

Championships. From Madrid. In her first year as a senior, impressing

:12:10.:12:11.

many. Just a straight. That is a big

:12:12.:12:17.

surprise. Nor more of a was at a split-second decision or

:12:18.:12:43.

just a blip? It was beautiful, but the tariff is very low on it. The

:12:44.:12:47.

judges view what they see. We know how wonderful Carlotta

:12:48.:13:08.

Ferlito has been, how good will she be? We would expect a full-twist.

:13:09.:13:21.

Single twist, she landed well. A good decision. Keeping the

:13:22.:13:33.

difficulty down but keeping the execution online.

:13:34.:13:40.

Nice and clean. She is renowned for being work, not for vaulting. She is

:13:41.:13:54.

a tiny bit off-line. -- she is renowned for beam work.

:13:55.:14:11.

Surely Iordache is one of the favourites for the competition

:14:12.:14:17.

against Elizabeth Price of America? She is so impressive. I hope we can

:14:18.:14:24.

count the two twist. Very nice indeed. Just a bit of a stutter. But

:14:25.:14:32.

she is dynamic, fast and light. A great start.

:14:33.:14:38.

Really very determined. A little bit scruffy with the legs, but that was

:14:39.:14:48.

a businesslike start to the competition. Look at the

:14:49.:14:51.

determination. Wraps it around, makes the landing, great stuff.

:14:52.:15:01.

14.766 takes into the lead, ahead the Asuka Teramoto. -- ahead of.

:15:02.:15:12.

Rear figure of great written is very young and very determined.

:15:13.:15:30.

Just a tiny little bit off to the side. One of the very promising

:15:31.:15:38.

Welsh gymnasts with the Welsh national coach. Did she stutter in

:15:39.:15:43.

the last phase? She checked her stride but converted it very

:15:44.:15:50.

nicely. Very confident, a good start for her.

:15:51.:16:00.

She opens with 13.333, she is on her way.

:16:01.:16:07.

Elizabeth Price, winner in Stuttgart just a week ago, and she loves World

:16:08.:16:13.

Cup events, Christine, doesn't she? Chasing 14.766, that is Iordache's

:16:14.:16:27.

score, she is in the lead at the moment. The American gymnast, so

:16:28.:16:33.

powerful on this apparatus. Oh, and she launched herself up in the air,

:16:34.:16:37.

two and a half twists, but she did not have enough rotation. She went

:16:38.:16:42.

for massive height but did not have the rotation to board her feet on

:16:43.:16:45.

the floor, that is very uncharacteristic. Big, big bold,

:16:46.:16:52.

lots at stake, talk us through it, Chris. She goes so high, she wraps

:16:53.:16:59.

in for two and a half twists, it is difficult to land because you do not

:17:00.:17:03.

see the floor. You have to marry rotation, sort of, you need to get

:17:04.:17:07.

your feet down. She went for such height, she blocked it a bit

:17:08.:17:13.

steeply. That was the consequence, and that will be one whole Mark off.

:17:14.:17:21.

14.233, it was a difficult fault, the score was not as low as it could

:17:22.:17:30.

have been. -- vault. A tiny upset for Elizabeth Price, she is in third

:17:31.:17:38.

place behind Iordache and Teramoto. Vanessa Ferrari will be a figure to

:17:39.:17:41.

reckon with in the rest of the competition.

:17:42.:17:47.

1-piece down for the girls, Price with a costly landing. Yes, she went

:17:48.:17:57.

for the difficult Yurchenko, which no-one else had done, but she had

:17:58.:18:02.

that fall on landing. With the difficulty, she is still in

:18:03.:18:05.

contention because of the start value. It is an interesting thing to

:18:06.:18:10.

way up, how much do you push yourself knowing you can afford to

:18:11.:18:13.

make a few mistakes if you go high on difficulty? Definitely, you are

:18:14.:18:18.

always trying to get the highest difficulty and do it clean, but even

:18:19.:18:22.

if you fall, you will come up with a big score anyway, you can still be

:18:23.:18:27.

in contention. Moving on to bars, after this piece, they will be

:18:28.:18:36.

halfway around, not much time to put things right if they go wrong with

:18:37.:18:38.

the women's all-around. There is not, one big mistake can really put

:18:39.:18:41.

you out of contention, but because Price had that difficulty, well,

:18:42.:18:45.

that advantage, it has still kept up there.

:18:46.:18:55.

Roxana Popa Nedelcu, aids with 13.166 with that strange vault. And

:18:56.:19:06.

watch this, straight into Gienger, very nice combination. The half turn

:19:07.:19:13.

into the front somersault, into the Jaeger somersault. Smooth, big, tall

:19:14.:19:20.

Tkatchev, she is really packing the release and catches in. The full

:19:21.:19:28.

para went into the normal Tkatchev. -- pirouette. Such a lot of

:19:29.:19:32.

difficult work, into the Pak salto, the somersaults down to the low

:19:33.:19:36.

bar. She has to go back up as well, and that was a bit flat. Winding up

:19:37.:19:42.

into the dismount, here we go, very nice, full twisting dismount, lots

:19:43.:19:48.

and lots of difficulty. She needed to make up for the strange decision

:19:49.:19:53.

on vault, we do not know what was behind it. No twists, she kept the

:19:54.:19:59.

score down to 13.166, but this was needed, very nice combinations, as

:20:00.:20:04.

Christine said, immediately into the Gienger, very nicely done indeed.

:20:05.:20:10.

She has a little bit of style here, and she is using it to advantage.

:20:11.:20:14.

This was the apparatus she needed to make up lost ground on, and she will

:20:15.:20:16.

be delighted with it. 13.93 three, . That gives her the

:20:17.:20:25.

lead at the moment. Raer Theaker, 13.33 on vault, what

:20:26.:20:42.

can we expect an bars? That is difficult element the forward

:20:43.:20:49.

circle, and into the back down to the high bar, very nice

:20:50.:20:52.

combinations. I was going to say that was the move that has been

:20:53.:20:57.

stalling slightly for the. The full pirouette. All gymnasts have to

:20:58.:21:01.

include a full pirouette on the bars. If they do not, it is a 0.5

:21:02.:21:09.

deduction. Now, she might well try and do it again, or she might just

:21:10.:21:17.

decide to carry on without. So she has lost a mark for falling. Here we

:21:18.:21:24.

go again, she includes the full pirouette, she gets that counted. Up

:21:25.:21:29.

to the high bar, very nice up to the high bar.

:21:30.:21:34.

Good Tkatchev, very smoothly done. Good handstand shape as well. Up,

:21:35.:21:43.

full twisting double back, she will be quite disappointed with that. A

:21:44.:21:48.

pity for Raer Theaker, a big occasion for her. But she did well

:21:49.:21:54.

to recover, Chris, it must be very disappointing. She did very well,

:21:55.:22:00.

and it is a big occasion. A really big home crowd. She had been

:22:01.:22:05.

training it really well, so it is disappointing to see the problem

:22:06.:22:10.

arise, but she got back on, really performed well, lovely full twist in

:22:11.:22:11.

the dismount. The score for Raer Theaker, 11.633,

:22:12.:22:15.

24.966 after two. Ruby Harrold, 13.599 required, and

:22:16.:22:39.

she was a finalist in the World Championships on uneven bars. What

:22:40.:22:44.

can she do? She has got a very original routine hold your breath

:22:45.:22:47.

for this first section. It is very tricky as well.

:22:48.:22:51.

She must hit her first handstand and does beautifully.

:22:52.:22:59.

Full turn any Pak salto. Feed through, into handstand, well, she

:23:00.:23:08.

did really well, because she hit the bar. Oh and again, it is the full

:23:09.:23:18.

pirouette that cause problems. She has already done two very difficult

:23:19.:23:25.

elements. She just turned to early. You have not got very much tolerance

:23:26.:23:31.

when you do that. Only a very few degrees.

:23:32.:23:40.

She goes for the full turn again, that is how to do it properly. Now

:23:41.:23:47.

she must shoot up to the high bar, smoothly done. She has still got a

:23:48.:23:52.

big release to come, half turn, here we go, the front somersault, catch

:23:53.:23:58.

at full stretch, up into handstand again, double front somersault,

:23:59.:24:03.

nicely done, but she will be very disappointed, and a good

:24:04.:24:06.

accommodation last week in Stuttgart. Plenty more to come from

:24:07.:24:11.

her, seventh in the final on this apparatus at the World

:24:12.:24:15.

Championships, it is all there, it just did not happen for her on that

:24:16.:24:18.

full term, but she showed that she can do it second time out. She is a

:24:19.:24:25.

good gymnast. A very good gymnast, and she has had a very long season.

:24:26.:24:34.

Original work, that is the very well-controlled double front

:24:35.:24:40.

dismount. 12.633, what might have been!

:24:41.:24:50.

Carlotta Ferlito just getting the board in the right place.

:24:51.:24:56.

Yes, the coach will be there for the willies and catch, the one time in

:24:57.:25:03.

gymnastics that the coaches are allowed to stand in. -- the release.

:25:04.:25:09.

Salter with full pirouette, very clean. And the half turn into a good

:25:10.:25:19.

forward giant and the Jaeger somersault, front somersault. She

:25:20.:25:23.

timed that beautifully, didn't she? Oh, but she really struggled with

:25:24.:25:27.

that, she didn't time it well at all! She fought like mad. Swinging

:25:28.:25:36.

well now, up into a double front dismount and she is a determined

:25:37.:25:42.

gymnast! Yes, we know about her grace and control on being. Look at

:25:43.:25:50.

that, I do not know what happened, but I survived it. Lovely technique,

:25:51.:25:56.

good Jaeger, very nicely rotated and called on straight arms. And that

:25:57.:26:02.

little error there, but she fought to keep hold of it, this was great

:26:03.:26:08.

from Carlotta Ferlito. And you can add the word tough to her CV to go

:26:09.:26:11.

with elegance on beam. Great stuff! 13.1 for Carlotta Ferlito, second

:26:12.:26:20.

place after two apparatus for her. Vanessa Ferrari next up. She needs

:26:21.:26:28.

12.966. So Ferrari with a chance. 12.966, can she do it? Oh, she can

:26:29.:26:50.

if she works well. Nice in the swings, with full turn. He won an

:26:51.:26:57.

turn straight into the Jaeger somersault, the front somersault.

:26:58.:27:01.

And that was smoothly down to the low bar and back-up.

:27:02.:27:07.

Clear circle, gymnasts have to show the close bar element. The

:27:08.:27:15.

dismount, full twisting double back, not a huge routine, but you can

:27:16.:27:19.

always bang on Vanessa Ferrari to fight her way through. Such a sharp

:27:20.:27:24.

focused gymnast, the way she tidied up that dismount to give a good

:27:25.:27:30.

presentation, last impression for the judges. Nice work, nice touches

:27:31.:27:36.

here. That is a nice little flourish. Good release, clean, keeps

:27:37.:27:40.

the swinging going. Skips in the transition to the lower

:27:41.:27:49.

bar, she needed to get this on her feet. Quickly up, skips into the

:27:50.:27:56.

finish position, very nicely done indeed, 12.96 is she needed, 14.1

:27:57.:28:02.

she got, comparably into the lead at the halfway stage in this

:28:03.:28:09.

competition. -- comfortably. Elizabeth Bryce, a little bit of a

:28:10.:28:15.

disappointment for her on vault, but 14 on bars is within her

:28:16.:28:20.

capabilities. -- Elizabeth Price. It certainly is, she is not used to

:28:21.:28:22.

having to fight from behind. That was quite late, but she got it

:28:23.:28:39.

into The Pike Tkatchev. Here is the toll on and off Tkatchev, straight

:28:40.:28:45.

down to the low bar. She is really packing the difficulty in, no lose

:28:46.:28:49.

swings. Watch for the dismount, up, she whines up, double straight with

:28:50.:28:56.

full twist. A really difficult, classy routine. Impressive, showing

:28:57.:29:03.

metal and determination after a disappointing start for her. Surely

:29:04.:29:07.

that has done the trick, some lovely work to save a here. Good

:29:08.:29:11.

combinations, the full turn was a little bit late, that is the full

:29:12.:29:16.

Tkatchev, she did it again, nice work, difficult, all the transitions

:29:17.:29:19.

were clean and very confident. And a classy dismount to wrap it all

:29:20.:29:30.

up very nicely indeed, full twist in two double straight, lovely routine.

:29:31.:29:36.

14.833, a great score for Elizabeth Price. Into the lead with 29.066

:29:37.:29:41.

after two. She is a good bar worker. Stoop in

:29:42.:30:06.

and out with full peril -- pirouette, straight into the

:30:07.:30:14.

Gienger. Open to the front somersault, showing good variety.

:30:15.:30:19.

Oh, a little bit of a late full-term, but she joins it straight

:30:20.:30:26.

into the chute down and up. She is building difficulty, her start value

:30:27.:30:31.

will be high. Another confident dismount, double talk with

:30:32.:30:36.

full-twist. We watched her train, that was the best routine I have

:30:37.:30:40.

seen from her all week. I think that is called rising to the challenge.

:30:41.:30:49.

She needed a score in the high 14s, 14.533, I think she will be close to

:30:50.:30:56.

that. A lovely combination into the Gienger. This is nice work. A slight

:30:57.:31:02.

loss of body shape, but set up nicely. Clean in the releases,

:31:03.:31:12.

confident in the handstand. This, the area, perhaps, that will keep

:31:13.:31:17.

her away from the big score. A little stagger forward, but nice

:31:18.:31:27.

work. 13.933, severely judged. She is into second.

:31:28.:31:36.

Larisa Iordache needs 14.3. She has really improved on bars and the

:31:37.:31:42.

Romanians have generally improved on bras. She is, but this is her week

:31:43.:31:49.

peace. -- the Romanians have generally improved on bars. This is

:31:50.:31:58.

her week peace. Judges would have deducted for that. It is confident.

:31:59.:32:07.

A good, full pirouette. She joined those well.

:32:08.:32:17.

Good handstand, controlled it, made the swing turn. Full-twisting double

:32:18.:32:25.

back, chest up beautifully on landing, she will be delighted. That

:32:26.:32:33.

was a cracker. It was needed. Romanians, generally, have struggled

:32:34.:32:37.

on this apparatus. She made strides but she really to hit it. Super

:32:38.:32:45.

half-turn, the flight from below bar to the hive. This is the front

:32:46.:32:52.

somersault that is a little lower. She is below the bar. Her turns were

:32:53.:32:58.

good, she was clean. There is the Pak salto, the Somerset from the

:32:59.:33:05.

high bar down to below bar. -- the somersault. Look how high her

:33:06.:33:19.

shoulders. Absolute cracker. 14.4. That puts Iordache into the lead at

:33:20.:33:21.

the halfway stage. Look how close it is, it is a tiny,

:33:22.:33:34.

tiny margin. It is not over yet. Raer Theaker from Great Britain,

:33:35.:34:00.

approaching her third apparatus. Just 16. Enjoying the occasion, I am

:34:01.:34:11.

sure. A difficult start. She performed the front somersault

:34:12.:34:12.

really well. A well performed free cartwheel and

:34:13.:34:33.

layout somersault, though. Lots of marks these days for artistry.

:34:34.:34:54.

She has very nice, fluent arm movements. Good low to the beam. All

:34:55.:35:03.

of these requirements a routine. Interesting turn on the knees.

:35:04.:35:22.

The difficult change likely with half-turn. Good on the beam, how

:35:23.:35:31.

about off? Double-twisting finish. A very confident performance. World

:35:32.:35:37.

and Raer Theaker. A lovely smile to go with our performance. -- well

:35:38.:35:44.

done, Raer Theaker. She had a few problems on the bars, but she looked

:35:45.:35:47.

to be over them. A very confident performance. This is the free

:35:48.:35:53.

cartwheel into a layout somersault. A difficult combination. This is

:35:54.:35:59.

such an efficient double spin. She timed it beautifully. Two twists in

:36:00.:36:04.

the dismount. 38.132 after three. Ruby Harrold comes up to the beam,

:36:05.:36:27.

she needs in 11.999. That would take into the lead. How is her beam? She

:36:28.:36:35.

is really known as a bar worker, but she made the finals on the beam as

:36:36.:36:39.

well at the Europeans this year. She performed very well. This is an

:36:40.:36:42.

interesting, unusual mount. That was a Healey to land on one

:36:43.:36:50.

foot. She held her nerve for that front

:36:51.:37:06.

somersault. The backflip and layout somersault

:37:07.:37:20.

have to be linked in order to score well in this routine.

:37:21.:37:30.

The obligatory two the is as well. -- two beeps.

:37:31.:37:59.

That beeping noise meant that the gymnast has ten seconds left to

:38:00.:38:08.

dismount. She runs. Good, strong, front twisting somersault to finish.

:38:09.:38:12.

A little bit of a fight, but she's about. There is the front

:38:13.:38:17.

somersault. A very difficult move along the beam. That is the ring

:38:18.:38:22.

leap with the head right back. All those little wobbles will get

:38:23.:38:37.

small deductions, but the dismount was good.

:38:38.:38:51.

Carlotta Ferlito, a very special performance on beam. She needs a

:38:52.:39:01.

score in the 11s, she can get up into the 14s? She can. A nice,

:39:02.:39:05.

supple gymnast. Her bonus marks come from linking

:39:06.:39:29.

moobs. Two backflips and a layout. Oh, but all the bonus marks fritter

:39:30.:39:31.

away when you fall off! She looks really determined. A

:39:32.:39:46.

strong technique on the spin. She is using these elements quite a

:39:47.:40:18.

lot. Every time the gymnast takes their head back during a leap or

:40:19.:40:25.

jump it adds to the difficulty. She has fulfilled all the requirements.

:40:26.:40:28.

You can see big concentration for the dismount. Two 1/2-twist,

:40:29.:40:35.

difficult dismount. She will be bitterly disappointed with herself.

:40:36.:40:43.

She is so confident. She has such a stamp on the way she presents her

:40:44.:40:49.

beam work. Deraa extra bonus points for linking three elements. She went

:40:50.:40:54.

for the two backflips before the somersault, her feet were across the

:40:55.:40:58.

beam when she landed. Very difficult to alter that. The judges have some

:40:59.:41:02.

deliberating to do to decide what they credit her and what it

:41:03.:41:10.

difficulties school will be. A disappointing score for her, 12.6,

:41:11.:41:15.

still enough to take the lead at this stage.

:41:16.:41:26.

You cannot write Vanessa Ferrari off. She is focused and determined.

:41:27.:41:32.

She has produced great performances on the beams over the years. 2006

:41:33.:41:41.

world champion, when she first burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old. We

:41:42.:41:47.

have seen her grow up and mature. And sometimes be great on beam and

:41:48.:41:49.

sometimes not. The free walk over the foot was off.

:41:50.:42:02.

A little bit jittery. At least a full spin is one of the

:42:03.:42:22.

requirements. This has been a much better

:42:23.:42:48.

performance. The big round-off, the double somersault. She built her

:42:49.:42:53.

confidence do the routine, showed the class that she is. That is her

:42:54.:43:01.

trademark. Since she was a tiny little thing at 15 years of age at

:43:02.:43:05.

the European Championships, when she won, and in 2006. And she is still

:43:06.:43:12.

impressive. Christine asked what we were going to see today, that was

:43:13.:43:19.

the answer. Yes. 23 years of age, you can see her first foot was

:43:20.:43:24.

hanging off the beam. She has practised that many times. You can

:43:25.:43:29.

see a little opening here to do well. Vanessa Ferrari is nothing if

:43:30.:43:32.

not determined. 13.9, the lead for her at the

:43:33.:43:45.

moment. She is having a good competition.

:43:46.:43:53.

Asuka Teramoto needs 13.6 except them. -- needs 13.667.

:43:54.:44:15.

Double spin into a backspin, very well performed. Half-turn onto the

:44:16.:44:21.

hands. Two backflips, a layout somersault.

:44:22.:44:38.

And another gymnast has been caught out by it. Very surprising.

:44:39.:44:49.

She did not quite link the free walk to the site Somerset, foot down, so

:44:50.:44:56.

no bonus marks, but both elements beautifully performed. -- she did

:44:57.:45:03.

not quite link the free walk to the side somersault.

:45:04.:45:19.

Lots of concentration for the dismount, a good round off, triple

:45:20.:45:29.

twist. She landed that well, but the damage was done, the marks were lost

:45:30.:45:35.

with the fall already. This is the very good combination, look, double

:45:36.:45:40.

spin straight into a backspin. So sharp and confident, and really it

:45:41.:45:43.

was a surprise when she did part company. She is a good gymnast,

:45:44.:45:50.

ninth all-around in the World Championships. Look at this, and off

:45:51.:45:56.

she comes. The dismount, just two steps, the triple twist, just

:45:57.:46:06.

squeezed it around. 13.2 for Asuka Teramoto, she has gone into second.

:46:07.:46:14.

Elizabeth Price, second she was at the halfway stage, behind Larisa

:46:15.:46:22.

Iordache. Surely, unless some mishap, she will achieve the

:46:23.:46:23.

required score. A really powerful but for me,

:46:24.:46:33.

Elizabeth Price. This is probably not her favourite apparatus, but she

:46:34.:46:38.

has some very powerful elements on it.

:46:39.:46:42.

Watch this, from standing, back somersault with full twist, not a

:46:43.:46:46.

flicker. So strong, smooth and well performed

:46:47.:46:55.

free walk over, straight into the league. -- leap.

:46:56.:47:04.

Is more unusual flip to two feet and then somersault straight back to two

:47:05.:47:15.

feet. -- this. But that is a little bit cautious,

:47:16.:47:28.

that leap, the half turn. And just a little over spin on the full spin.

:47:29.:47:34.

Strong in the free cartwheel. The dismount will be powerful. Here we

:47:35.:47:44.

go! Big round off, double pike, lovely height, lifted the chest on

:47:45.:47:50.

landing, a little cautious, I think. Very, very powerful, very confident,

:47:51.:47:56.

that is deep end is, standing full twist. So confident! No mistake for

:47:57.:48:05.

her. -- that is stupendous. This will be the query, that was quite

:48:06.:48:11.

poor, the change to the half turn. And the judges have really been

:48:12.:48:15.

harsh today, so it will be interesting as to how they judge it.

:48:16.:48:23.

The dismount was great, though. 13.833, she has gone into first,

:48:24.:48:25.

Elizabeth Price. Larisa Iordache, 13.733 required.

:48:26.:48:42.

The beam is an impressive performance for her, isn't it?

:48:43.:48:48.

Larisa Iordache is fantastic on beam, but this routine is full of

:48:49.:48:52.

risk. And I don't think she'll hold back. Watch this to start.

:48:53.:48:59.

Backflip, full twisting back somersault, really confident, and

:49:00.:49:04.

you think she has made it, but watch this as well.

:49:05.:49:11.

Round off, straight somersault with full twist off oh, and what a shame,

:49:12.:49:20.

what a shame! Such a feather in her cap, she did not hold back,

:49:21.:49:25.

Christine. She did not, the spin with the leg right up.

:49:26.:49:36.

And that is how you do that leap series, the change and half turn

:49:37.:49:44.

gets a bonus mark, floating the free walk over into two jumps. She has

:49:45.:49:50.

got wonderful read on the beam, she works so fast. -- wonderful rhythm.

:49:51.:49:59.

Cider somersault easily performed. -- side. We have seen her over the

:50:00.:50:03.

years perform great routines, but this year she has faulted a bid

:50:04.:50:06.

under pressure. Watch the dismount. The round off, the backflip, the

:50:07.:50:15.

triple twist, absolutely superb work. What a shame. Beautiful,

:50:16.:50:20.

beautiful work, she did not hold back, she went for that very

:50:21.:50:25.

difficult straight body full twist. She parted company with the beam and

:50:26.:50:30.

has given as a thrilling finale when it comes to the floor, it is going

:50:31.:50:35.

to be a real thriller. Round of straight with full twist, she nearly

:50:36.:50:36.

held it, didn't she. 14.1 is good enough for Larisa

:50:37.:50:49.

Iordache, she takes the lead with one apparatus to go.

:50:50.:50:55.

She parted company with the beam, but she did not lose her lead - she

:50:56.:51:02.

is in first over Elizabeth Price, a fabulous finish in store. Vanessa

:51:03.:51:06.

Ferrari is in third place, Ruby Harrold in seventh, Rea taker in

:51:07.:51:10.

eight. Only one more piece to go for the

:51:11.:51:14.

women, and you predicted the top three, you are right, but a slightly

:51:15.:51:20.

different order so far. Yes, she has taken the lead, but there is not a

:51:21.:51:26.

lot going into it, they are two totally different styles of gymnasts

:51:27.:51:31.

on the floor. Larisa is more gracious and artistic, whereas

:51:32.:51:34.

Elizabeth is just power. So it will be interesting to see how it

:51:35.:51:40.

unfolds. We saw Iordache, off be beam, she will be going to the floor

:51:41.:51:45.

with real fire in her belly. She will need to put things behind her,

:51:46.:51:51.

get onto the next apparatus and go clean on the last apparatus,

:51:52.:51:55.

finishing on a high. Can Ferrari climb higher as well? She has done

:51:56.:52:00.

incredibly well, so consistent. She has been in the background, everyone

:52:01.:52:04.

looking at the top two, but she is sneaking up the table. It doesn't

:52:05.:52:10.

have come around quick, does it? Let's go down to the floor for the

:52:11.:52:14.

final piece of apparatus in the women's all-around competition.

:52:15.:52:22.

Raer Theaker, 38 point -- 38.132, coming into this in eighth

:52:23.:52:31.

position. She has loved the exposure at this level, not cracking at all,

:52:32.:52:38.

just enjoying the experience. Here she is to wrap up her performance on

:52:39.:52:43.

the floor. Very well controlled triple spin right at the beginning

:52:44.:52:48.

of the routine, and then the change, the leap with full turn.

:52:49.:52:55.

The girls have to... That is too and a half this time. I was going to say

:52:56.:53:16.

they have to have twisting and somersault elements, double

:53:17.:53:18.

somersault, she will have to put that in later.

:53:19.:53:36.

Here we go, the round off, backflip, double somersault easily

:53:37.:53:40.

negotiated. Double twist, easily performed, well

:53:41.:53:57.

landed. Well, confident, happy performance

:53:58.:54:11.

all the way through today, she has loved the experience, has Raer

:54:12.:54:17.

Theaker, and at 16 there's plenty more to come from her. Yes, there

:54:18.:54:22.

with the Welsh national coach, she will hope to be one of those

:54:23.:54:27.

gymnasts representing Wales in the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Two and

:54:28.:54:32.

they have twisting front, very difficult element. -- two and a

:54:33.:54:40.

half. She tumbles very well, very confidently indeed, good technique,

:54:41.:54:47.

good double tug. Raer Theaker, 12.5, her first experience of a

:54:48.:54:53.

world cup in Glasgow, great experience to put into the family

:54:54.:54:54.

album. Ruby Harrold, 38.399 coming in, she

:54:55.:55:06.

needs 12.233 to take the lead at this stage, but the two British

:55:07.:55:13.

girls have been enjoying the day. One more performance for Ruby

:55:14.:55:14.

Harrold. Really pi, well... Wonderfully

:55:15.:55:25.

landed double are being, and she just tottered at the toes over.

:55:26.:55:30.

Tottered the toes over? That is tough to say! Very nice double twist

:55:31.:55:36.

that time, lovely powerful piece of music, this.

:55:37.:55:50.

Some great leaps in there and a super combination, one and a half

:55:51.:55:56.

into full twist. The combination of leaps that have

:55:57.:56:22.

to be included in the routine. She has really performed well, she

:56:23.:56:36.

has got to find some power and energy for the double back. She does

:56:37.:56:43.

that with ease. Great finish to her challenge. The roar from the Glasgow

:56:44.:56:50.

audience right behind her. The tumbling was strong and powerful,

:56:51.:56:57.

here is the double Arabian. And then the double twisting front

:56:58.:57:02.

somersault. She shows good variety of elements in this routine.

:57:03.:57:08.

The score for Ruby Harrold, 13.0 three, , her final total, first

:57:09.:57:17.

place at the moment but still performances to come.

:57:18.:57:25.

Roxana Popa Nedelcu of Spain. After the weak start on vault, she has had

:57:26.:57:34.

two very impressive apparatus to build on that, so she needs a strong

:57:35.:57:37.

finale to have a chance. And this, usually, is a really

:57:38.:57:43.

strong piece for her. And look at the lovely double

:57:44.:57:54.

straight to start. Two backflips, nothing wrong with

:57:55.:58:05.

that, that was fab! Two and a half twists, immediate

:58:06.:58:21.

punch front. Super tumbling, not quite the same

:58:22.:59:06.

express of work we have seen from some of the gymnasts, but she makes

:59:07.:59:11.

up for it with power. Well, she had a quiet start to this competition,

:59:12.:59:16.

but she has finished with a bang. That was more like what we expect to

:59:17.:59:20.

see, and she has done herself no harm at all with this. Look at the

:59:21.:59:25.

acceleration through the whips, into the full twisting double, and

:59:26.:59:31.

tumbling was strong and determined. The double Pike, a little skip back,

:59:32.:59:35.

but that is the way she would have wanted to finish this competition.

:59:36.:59:45.

14.3, a very good score for Roxana Popa Nedelcu, she finishes with 50

:59:46.:59:55.

ball -- 54 .532. Asuka Teramoto needs 12.866 on floor. And the

:59:56.:00:02.

Japanese, traditionally, are they impressive on floor? Is this a good

:00:03.:00:07.

apparatus for her? They are not normally so impressive on floor, but

:00:08.:00:11.

she is a good, strong tumbler, really a very good all-around

:00:12.:00:12.

gymnast. Two and a half into straight front,

:00:13.:00:35.

very light. We have seen good leaps and good

:00:36.:01:39.

jumps. Some strong tumbles. Just a little insecure on the finish, but a

:01:40.:01:45.

well worked routine. All these gymnast is working very hard on

:01:46.:01:50.

their presentation of the routine. -- all these gymnast heirs working

:01:51.:01:57.

very hard. Lots of Mark given -- marks given for artistry.

:01:58.:02:05.

She has gone into the lead. A good score all-around. What can we expect

:02:06.:02:19.

from Vanessa Ferrari? Floor has been a trademark apparatus for her.

:02:20.:02:28.

The silver medal on floor at the World Championships earlier this

:02:29.:02:31.

year. Double-twisting, double back. Just a simple double back on the way

:02:32.:02:43.

back. Watch her leaps. Vanessa Ferrari can sell a routine.

:02:44.:03:49.

She has done just that today. All she needs is one good, strong,

:03:50.:03:55.

finishing tumble. Double pike back, it is there. It is still there after

:03:56.:04:02.

all these years. She has adapted her floor, it is still impressive. She

:04:03.:04:13.

uses her league so well. The routine has two include at least three leaps

:04:14.:04:17.

or spins as well as five acrobatic elements. If you can leap as well as

:04:18.:04:26.

Vanessa Ferrari, you can add your value up. Vanessa Ferrari is now in

:04:27.:04:39.

the lead with 56.633. Elizabeth Price needs 13.734. She cannot

:04:40.:04:46.

afford any obvious mistakes. A thriller of a finale.

:04:47.:04:53.

This routine is packed with power tumbling.

:04:54.:05:08.

Hop turn into a double straight, how about that for the first two

:05:09.:05:20.

tumbles? The one and a half, straight into

:05:21.:05:47.

the tumble Tucker. Great precision on the landing.

:05:48.:06:12.

A very clever routine for a bouncy gymnast. Double pike somersault, no

:06:13.:06:27.

problem! Power and artistry. She rose to the challenge that Ferrari

:06:28.:06:32.

is set as the defending champion who has been in second, coming into this

:06:33.:06:38.

round. She has put some pressure on Larisa Iordache. Great performance.

:06:39.:06:46.

So much power, acceleration and determination. Look at that double

:06:47.:06:51.

double. Head in the rafters, but it did not matter. Look at that, double

:06:52.:07:01.

straight. Superstars! Such precise landing every time. I don't think

:07:02.:07:08.

she moved on any of her landings. Maybe a hop on the last one, but it

:07:09.:07:17.

was such impressive precision. 57.365, a little bit of pressure on

:07:18.:07:24.

Iordache now. Larisa Iordache, this is to win the competition. She needs

:07:25.:07:29.

14.099. She is good on the floor. Full-twisting double pike to open.

:07:30.:08:03.

Full-twisting double tuck, just a little hop.

:08:04.:08:12.

Oh, superb, squad spin. -- Quad spin.

:08:13.:08:29.

Really selling this routine, you can see the concentration for the

:08:30.:08:33.

tumbles. Easy triple twist. Straight from the corner into the

:08:34.:09:04.

tumble. Double pike, good landing. Say it, Chris? A really impressive

:09:05.:09:22.

routine. She looks a happy, composed gymnast. Really, she gave herself to

:09:23.:09:29.

that routine. In the lead all of this competition, she rose to the

:09:30.:09:35.

challenge. Elizabeth Rice left it for her to do, and she has done

:09:36.:09:42.

that. So, so impressive. -- Elizabeth Price left it for her to

:09:43.:09:52.

do. Beautifully done. This, Chris, Quad spin. Difficult? Very

:09:53.:09:57.

difficult, and really done with poise and very beautifully

:09:58.:10:03.

performed. She is a gymnast definitely growing with confidence

:10:04.:10:10.

and putting her own style on the routines. She has grown from a

:10:11.:10:14.

little girl into a really quite mature performer. She needed 14.099,

:10:15.:10:25.

Larisa Iordache has come up with 14.666 to seal a very impressive

:10:26.:10:31.

victory. Ruby Harrold con graduating her. Larisa Iordache held on to form

:10:32.:10:39.

to stay ahead of Elizabeth Price, who had that little problem on

:10:40.:10:43.

vault. The Nessa Ferrari was consistent all the way through to

:10:44.:10:48.

take the bronze medal. -- Vanessa Ferrari was consistent all the way

:10:49.:10:50.

through. You are a very powerful and dynamic

:10:51.:11:00.

gymnast, but did you end up on the back foot? It did not go according

:11:01.:11:06.

to plan? I was not planning on missing my vault, that was

:11:07.:11:11.

unfortunate. It affected a little bit how I was thinking for the rest

:11:12.:11:16.

of the meet. I put more pressure on myself or the other events. I was

:11:17.:11:21.

not totally down, I knew I was capable of making my vault,

:11:22.:11:24.

something went wrong at the wrong time. I knew I had to get everything

:11:25.:11:28.

together and make sure that I could keep my other routines. I heard you

:11:29.:11:34.

were feeling quite nervous, how was it? Are you pleased with your

:11:35.:11:39.

performance? I'm pleased, I did not expect to be here, let alone

:11:40.:11:44.

compete. I did not compete the best I could, but I did myself proud. I

:11:45.:11:48.

think we have done everyone we watched proud, and GB proud, but it

:11:49.:11:54.

is experience and I hope to get better every time, I am happy.

:11:55.:12:04.

It helps to have a home crowd behind you. It is nice for people to call

:12:05.:12:10.

your name. What are you take away from the competition? Experience,

:12:11.:12:15.

more than anything. I have had a brilliant time, it has been

:12:16.:12:18.

fantastic. Experiences the main thing.

:12:19.:12:23.

It is wonderful to see Larisa Iordache on top of the podium,

:12:24.:12:28.

smiling away. She played it absolutely right going into the

:12:29.:12:34.

final apparatus. The difficulty that she would normally perform at a

:12:35.:12:37.

world championship, it is the end of the season, every gymnast is tired,

:12:38.:12:42.

she played safe but she was so clean that the judges had nothing to take

:12:43.:12:47.

from her. Many people will wonder why they have not seen Elizabeth

:12:48.:12:50.

Price before, but it is where competitions have come for her in

:12:51.:12:56.

her career? The American team is so strong, she won the World Cup last

:12:57.:13:00.

year, she has had a year of injury this year, they have obviously put

:13:01.:13:04.

around here to see if she is on fighting form. She definitely is

:13:05.:13:09.

back on it. I know you and Vanessa Ferrari have competed for many

:13:10.:13:13.

years, but it is great to see her still on top of the world? Yes, she

:13:14.:13:19.

is so consistent. She knows her skills inside out. You can guarantee

:13:20.:13:24.

that she will go off and perform. It is nice to have someone like are

:13:25.:13:28.

competing on the circuit. The younger gymnasts have a role model.

:13:29.:13:32.

She is the one pulling the springboard out, she is there for

:13:33.:13:37.

them whenever they need her. You need people like that, so the

:13:38.:13:42.

Italian team will be pleased to keep hold of her. Beth Tweddle has

:13:43.:13:45.

inspired many youngsters, but just the other day she met up with a

:13:46.:13:49.

young gymnast who has really impressed her, even though she is

:13:50.:13:53.

only seven. I am not at my LJ as much as I used

:13:54.:13:57.

to be, but I am here today for a special surprise. -- I am not at my

:13:58.:14:04.

old gym. This seven-year-old is here today, she does not know I am here

:14:05.:14:08.

but she is such an inspirational little girl. She is just great. She

:14:09.:14:17.

has always been the perfect child, the angel child you would always

:14:18.:14:22.

want. You have never had to tell her off, so all of a sudden, overnight,

:14:23.:14:27.

she just changed and became a teenager overnight, slamming doors

:14:28.:14:36.

and getting moody and stroppy. We took her to the doctors. She was

:14:37.:14:43.

diagnosed with a tumour of the Overy so it is like a childhood form of

:14:44.:14:51.

ovarian cancer. They are the medals which I have one in competitions.

:14:52.:14:56.

These are my traces. I got first place. Dashmack these are my

:14:57.:15:06.

trophies. We said she has got a lump in her tummy. She was crying. We

:15:07.:15:14.

found that on the Friday that she had got the tumour. She had a

:15:15.:15:17.

competition on the Saturday which she was advised not to do but being

:15:18.:15:21.

Niamh she cried and wanted to do it. We said, we will let her do it

:15:22.:15:27.

but be very careful. She did the competition and she won. Every time

:15:28.:15:35.

I went to the and had treatment or a blood test, they would give you a

:15:36.:15:46.

bead. And you start off with your name and then the black ones are for

:15:47.:15:53.

blood tests. The star is for surgery. The face and the brown one

:15:54.:16:04.

is for losing your hair. Niamh thinks she is here today to look

:16:05.:16:09.

around competition Jim and see where I train. She has come along with her

:16:10.:16:13.

mum and dad and her coach but actually, I am going to surprise

:16:14.:16:26.

her. Hello. Do you know who I am? Are you normally this quiet? I bet

:16:27.:16:37.

you are not, are you? Good girl. Reached to the ceiling and touch the

:16:38.:16:44.

floor. First thing she wanted to do when she had finished her treatment

:16:45.:16:50.

was get back the gym. When she woke up she said, the first thing I will

:16:51.:16:59.

do is go back to gym and she did. Within a week the colour is back in

:17:00.:17:04.

her skin, she is back with her friends doing gymnastics. It has

:17:05.:17:10.

given her more life. You have got a lovely pointed toe. A very strong

:17:11.:17:17.

girl. We have definitely got Christmas to look forward to. Next

:17:18.:17:22.

year will be a positive year. Now you are part of our squad. There we

:17:23.:17:27.

are. Well, what a character. A girl who

:17:28.:17:34.

lets gymnastics do the talking. She was amazing. When I walked into the

:17:35.:17:39.

gym she did not speak but the smile on her face said it all. Her mum and

:17:40.:17:43.

dad said when she was having had treatment all she wanted to do was

:17:44.:17:47.

get back into the gym and be back with her friends. When you get that

:17:48.:17:51.

bug, there are so many young gymnasts all around here, young

:17:52.:17:58.

gymnasts will be competing on a very big scale here. It is on a podium

:17:59.:18:03.

which young gymnasts do not normally get to compete on. I did not get to

:18:04.:18:08.

compete on a podium until I was 16 years old so it is great experience.

:18:09.:18:13.

And is worth mentioning how many young people are getting inspired by

:18:14.:18:19.

what you have achieved. It is incredible for young people. It is

:18:20.:18:22.

really good for the sport. The more talent we have got to pick from as

:18:23.:18:26.

well. It makes Great Britain are much better country to compete in.

:18:27.:18:39.

What is it like to be a hero? It is really nice but I do not really know

:18:40.:18:44.

because I am constantly in the gym with my head down training. It is

:18:45.:18:49.

great for little gymnasts to come up to me and want photos. Took a while

:18:50.:18:56.

for me to come in here with you! There were a lot of young gymnasts

:18:57.:19:03.

coming up and wanting photos. Tomorrow night, many of the sporting

:19:04.:19:08.

greats will be being recognised and remembered with Sports Personality

:19:09.:19:16.

of the Year. Sports personality of 1970, our

:19:17.:19:21.

Henry, Henry Cooper. Virginia Wade has had the most scintillating

:19:22.:19:29.

victory. Our Sports Personality of the Year goes to two people, Jane

:19:30.:19:34.

Torvill and Christopher Dean. The greatest Olympian of all time, Steve

:19:35.:19:40.

Redgrave. For 60 years it has taken pride of place. Bradley Wiggins.

:19:41.:19:50.

Sports Personality of the Year live tomorrow on BBC One. What a night it

:19:51.:19:57.

is. It is an amazing night. A few years ago you did a full routine.

:19:58.:20:04.

Yes, it was back in 2006 and in 2009 I did a routine with down on the

:20:05.:20:08.

floor. And I hear you are coming back tomorrow night! No! We will put

:20:09.:20:16.

that to bed and turn our attention to the men's all-around competition.

:20:17.:20:22.

Daniel was jealous of best's trip out last night so we booked him into

:20:23.:20:27.

a taxi. The men's competition will be really

:20:28.:20:32.

exciting this year. Here are the main names I am looking out for. The

:20:33.:20:37.

favourite is Oleg Verniaiev. He has just come back from Stuttgart with

:20:38.:20:41.

an overall score of 92 points which no other gymnast has managed to do

:20:42.:20:46.

since the new code came in. This year has proved to be quite

:20:47.:20:49.

inconsistent on the high bar which is where he fell in the world

:20:50.:20:53.

Championships in Antwerp this year. The next guy is the American John

:20:54.:20:57.

Orozco who has just come back from a big injury and wants to prove

:20:58.:21:02.

himself again. He went to the Antwerp World Championships and

:21:03.:21:04.

picked up a medal on the parallel bars. The last competition, crazy

:21:05.:21:09.

things happened so it is good to stay composed and be alert. I just

:21:10.:21:15.

want to go in there. Finally is the Belarussian gymnast Andre

:21:16.:21:21.

Likhovitskiy. If somebody makes a mistake, I think he can sneak in

:21:22.:21:29.

there with a medal. The thing is with Oleg Verniaiev, it

:21:30.:21:34.

is all or nothing with him, isn't it? Yes, if he hits them he scores

:21:35.:21:39.

such a big score and it will be hard for anybody to beat him. We've

:21:40.:21:46.

soared John Orozco earlier on and he said he's just trying to stay alive

:21:47.:21:50.

because he has had so many injuries. He is coming back from a major

:21:51.:21:54.

injury and he wants to prove himself on the all-around circuit again. He

:21:55.:21:58.

has a big chance today. The exciting thing with British gymnasts today as

:21:59.:22:03.

we put our gymnasts up there and we invite other people from around the

:22:04.:22:06.

world to come and try and beat them. We have got Daniel Purvis and Sam

:22:07.:22:12.

Oldham going today and they will be tough to beat. Purvis is looking in

:22:13.:22:17.

good shape. He will go out today and give it his all. Sam is another one

:22:18.:22:21.

trying to push for a spot on the team. He will want to go out the

:22:22.:22:24.

improved to the selectors that he can compete under a lot of

:22:25.:22:29.

pressure. Let's find out how the lads are thinking.

:22:30.:22:33.

I was here last year observing, watching the competition and

:22:34.:22:37.

cheering on my team-mates and I was thinking, I would love to be part of

:22:38.:22:40.

this World Cup circuit next year so it is a big game for me to be here.

:22:41.:22:46.

I was fortunate, Max and Dan gained places for GB. Max is taking a rest

:22:47.:22:51.

so I got the call up for this condition. I have had a few injuries

:22:52.:22:55.

which have set me back but I have been pushing my difficulty on all

:22:56.:22:59.

six apparatus rather than just one or two apparatus are hopefully next

:23:00.:23:03.

year, that should put me in good stead for all around. All around is

:23:04.:23:07.

my main event and that is the thing I want to be winning medals that.

:23:08.:23:12.

Last weekend was the first World Cup in Stuttgart. It was a really tight

:23:13.:23:18.

competition. It would be great to do a repeat performance. Results wise,

:23:19.:23:23.

that would be fantastic. I have got family coming up and everything so

:23:24.:23:27.

it would be great to show them what I can do.

:23:28.:23:34.

Let's get on with the competition. In the commentary box, Mitch Fenner

:23:35.:23:35.

and Christine Still. Sam Oldham can pull some good work

:23:36.:23:57.

out under pressure. But look out for the young Belarussian, Andre

:23:58.:24:00.

Likhovitskiy who is so stylish but he will need to step up his

:24:01.:24:04.

difficulty if he is going to live in this company. First up on men's

:24:05.:24:08.

floor, 20-year-old Oleg Verniaiev. He was third in the European

:24:09.:24:22.

Championships all round. He did not have a big European Championships

:24:23.:24:27.

but he was the winner at the World Cup event just a week ago. A good,

:24:28.:24:30.

safe start. A big adjustment there. Those little jump forwards can be

:24:31.:24:42.

expensive. Wrapped it in but under rotated in

:24:43.:24:49.

the twisting front from handspring. The floor exercise traditionally is

:24:50.:25:07.

the place to get rid of any nerves if there are any about. It is a big

:25:08.:25:09.

test. Not the best of starts the Oleg

:25:10.:25:25.

Verniaiev. He has to nail this and he did. And little adjustment at the

:25:26.:25:34.

end. Five apparatus still to go. And he was the -- a little shaky to

:25:35.:25:44.

start with. The floor bounced away from him. That will be quite heavily

:25:45.:25:49.

deducted. He managed to keep his hands off the floor. The finish was

:25:50.:25:51.

much, much better. The Japanese are always great to

:25:52.:26:19.

watch. They have a lovely, almost laid-back style.

:26:20.:26:33.

His opener was steady. He needs to keep that controlled the exercise.

:26:34.:26:44.

The Japanese keep the shoulders down.

:26:45.:26:59.

Really wrapped the twist round there. Some rough edges. But it is

:27:00.:27:05.

the first of six, they will settle down.

:27:06.:27:16.

A Japanese handstand, not quite vertical.

:27:17.:27:28.

The double twist was very nicely done. But it was low in the full

:27:29.:27:41.

twisting double. A very interesting floor event. A real twister, this

:27:42.:27:48.

guy. Nearly all of his tumbles from the twisting category, that is the

:27:49.:27:53.

one roll down he is allowed. He is allowed once in the routine to not

:27:54.:28:02.

land on his feet. His final tumble, a bit of the deep landing.

:28:03.:28:20.

This is a very stylish gymnast. He impressed us that the World

:28:21.:28:27.

Championships. Technically very strong but has he got the

:28:28.:28:29.

difficulty? We will see here. That was beautiful with straight

:28:30.:28:44.

legs and smoothly out. Here you can see the style,

:28:45.:29:14.

beautiful stretched feet. The judges do not take so many marks away, when

:29:15.:29:20.

they seem gymnast perform with poor style they take marks away.

:29:21.:29:33.

Super work. Not big tumbles, Mitch. Clean and safe. A very clean and the

:29:34.:29:45.

splint gymnast. A beautiful half twist, nice and clean. This is an

:29:46.:29:49.

excellent manner. A very good score for not such a

:29:50.:30:13.

difficult routine. Daniel Purvis is on home territory. He had a good

:30:14.:30:18.

competition in Stuttgart last week, he came third. He was third here in

:30:19.:30:22.

Glasgow last year. Opening his account on floor. An event for which

:30:23.:30:29.

he is a world bronze medallist. He did that three years ago in

:30:30.:30:37.

Rotterdam. A good, solid start. Twisting very, very cleanly. Under

:30:38.:30:38.

control. He has a lovely presence on the

:30:39.:30:55.

floor exercise. He makes it look nice and easy.

:30:56.:31:09.

So often, unnecessary mistakes in simple work, but that was

:31:10.:31:20.

beautifully done. There is the one and the half-twist and his little

:31:21.:31:22.

trademark straight leg roll-out. That was a solid start for Daniel

:31:23.:31:41.

Purvis. That is one of the best routines I have seen him produce for

:31:42.:31:46.

quite a while. He has upped his difficulty, very impressive. This is

:31:47.:31:52.

the start, the flip, the double-twisting, double back. And

:31:53.:31:57.

just the slightest twitch on landing. He really knows where he is

:31:58.:32:06.

in the air. Big finish, the whip back into the double Arabian. That

:32:07.:32:11.

little step was almost the only noticeable deduction.

:32:12.:32:20.

A huge score, 15.433, this puts Daniel Purvis on top of the pile

:32:21.:32:24.

with three performances to go on floor.

:32:25.:32:33.

Gonzales is still only 20 years old and has a great future. Tall and

:32:34.:32:39.

stylish, a great all-around performer.

:32:40.:32:53.

All these moves are given bonuses when they are connected like that.

:32:54.:33:00.

That was a little bit sloppy, his legs were just a part of it. --

:33:01.:33:05.

apart a bit. He just about help the balance. --

:33:06.:33:24.

held the balance. Very competent. Just a little amble into that

:33:25.:33:25.

tumble. More twists. A lovely triple twisted

:33:26.:33:50.

to finish. Cleanly round. Nicely done by Gonzales. Twisting is his

:33:51.:33:57.

forte. A little bit scruffy coming out of the one and three, one

:33:58.:34:04.

1/2-twist. Tiny signs of nerves throughout the routine. I think he

:34:05.:34:07.

will be happy. 14.666, style balanced out

:34:08.:34:13.

difficulty. Difficult to think that John Orozco

:34:14.:34:29.

from the USA is still only 20 years old. The flaw is not his forte, but

:34:30.:34:36.

he will need a good, solid routine. Nice double pike.

:34:37.:34:44.

Lovely acceleration through the flick for the full-twisting double.

:34:45.:34:45.

A very good start. That handstand has to be clean in

:34:46.:35:15.

the final position. So often simple moves to give away.

:35:16.:35:27.

That two and a half twist was slightly over, but this is one of

:35:28.:35:48.

the best floor exercises from him that I can remember. A good split.

:35:49.:35:56.

Tension in the shoulders, shrugs them down. The two and a half twist

:35:57.:36:04.

was the finish, it is always difficult to land kindly like that

:36:05.:36:11.

without seeing the floor. 14.4 33, one performance remaining on floor.

:36:12.:36:19.

Sam Oldham for Great Britain closes the opening event for the men.

:36:20.:36:25.

Dan Purvis is in front at the moment, wouldn't it be nice if these

:36:26.:36:28.

two got very close together? He was part of the team that took

:36:29.:36:45.

the bronze medal at the Olympics. That was a fabulous opening tumble.

:36:46.:36:51.

He twists so fast, so well. So well rehearsed.

:36:52.:37:01.

He shows the control in the balance as well.

:37:02.:37:23.

He met that double twist with perfection. A good kick out before

:37:24.:37:35.

the roll-out. You can see the concentration, he knows this final

:37:36.:37:39.

tumble has two be difficult and has two land. Here is the triple twist.

:37:40.:37:46.

That was a big deduction. Not quite round. He will have to ponder hard

:37:47.:37:54.

over that. It is a pity, he was clean and crisp all the way through.

:37:55.:38:02.

Started with rocket fuel, very nice indeed. The tiniest adjustment, the

:38:03.:38:09.

judges might not have seen it. This looks so well. Plenty of

:38:10.:38:12.

acceleration. The undercut went well, but I think he met the floor a

:38:13.:38:18.

little bit early. Watch it now. Just slightly heavy. Here, the wheels

:38:19.:38:24.

fell off just a little bit. A little bit low on the landing, got the

:38:25.:38:28.

three twist round, but that is expensive.

:38:29.:38:38.

14.666, that is a pity. Until that final tumble it was a great routine.

:38:39.:38:51.

There is a long way to go. There are some strong events to come for John

:38:52.:39:00.

Orozco. An exciting competition. What a start for Great Britain, with

:39:01.:39:04.

Dan Purvis leading the way. Sam Oldham at joint third, but did

:39:05.:39:10.

you think the judge was harsh? We have found it hard to judge what

:39:11.:39:13.

scores were going to come out. We know that if Dan goes through he has

:39:14.:39:17.

high difficulty and performs cleanly, but we were slightly

:39:18.:39:21.

surprised by the American, his score was quite low. We did not expect

:39:22.:39:26.

anything else from Dan Purvis, given that he got the bronze at the World

:39:27.:39:32.

Championships. But how will he fare against Verniaiev on the pommel

:39:33.:39:37.

horse? Verniaiev has got the edge on the pommel horse, he also has the

:39:38.:39:41.

difficulty. That purpose has been working on a new routine. Percy has

:39:42.:39:46.

a nice little cushion from the floor. Let's see what happens, we

:39:47.:39:50.

will hand back to Mitch and Christine Steele.

:39:51.:39:58.

-- to Mitch Senna and Christine Still.

:39:59.:40:10.

This is a nice start from him. Clean and confident in the handstand. A E

:40:11.:40:30.

difficulty. -- a D difficulty. Every time they throw in a pike circle,

:40:31.:40:36.

there is a problem. The rhythm goes, Bob's is your uncle, you are

:40:37.:40:40.

standing on the floor. What a pity. But when you pick up your feet, the

:40:41.:40:48.

rhythm is very, very badly affected. There are six pieces of apparatus,

:40:49.:40:51.

it is not the end of the road, but he cannot afford another mistake. He

:40:52.:40:56.

is losing form and shape. He really has two get his head together.

:40:57.:41:06.

He recovered. Well done, John Orozco. Your head is stronger jaw

:41:07.:41:15.

technique was a tiny bit weak. The pommel horse, the apparatus that

:41:16.:41:19.

needs perfect technique. You can see the pike of the hip is as he is

:41:20.:41:26.

working. Just fighting to keep the legs above the handles. You are

:41:27.:41:31.

meant to clear the handles as much as possible. He swung well into this

:41:32.:41:37.

dismount. He was cleanly up, probably the best bit of the

:41:38.:41:38.

routine? Very leniently dealt with by the

:41:39.:41:55.

judges. Likhovitskiy can make this apparatus

:41:56.:42:07.

look quite beautiful. He has lovely lines.

:42:08.:42:22.

He is very confident on one handle. Good through the spindle, clean

:42:23.:42:30.

rhythm. This boy can swing. Plenty of good technical work. Keep

:42:31.:42:56.

the rhythm. Well done. Well done indeed. A good routine. Full of

:42:57.:43:05.

difficulty. The difficulty is added by travelling along the pommel

:43:06.:43:09.

horse. The hands have to try to stay even. A really taxing piece of

:43:10.:43:18.

apparatus. You need fabulous body tension and control. He swings up,

:43:19.:43:25.

pirouettes nicely, very clean dismount.

:43:26.:43:32.

That is a very good score. It is the lead.

:43:33.:43:53.

One of Yamamoto's best apparatus is behind him, that is the floor.

:43:54.:44:25.

He is keeping risen very nicely. A tiny bit piked. Bent arms, lack of

:44:26.:44:34.

rhythm in the handstand, the first noticeable error. But he is relieved

:44:35.:44:40.

to get that out of the way. The Japanese are always very good

:44:41.:44:45.

technicians. Lovely and supple. You can see the split of the legs,

:44:46.:44:49.

controlling the split of the handstand and back down. Very

:44:50.:44:54.

smooth. Just a little stall on the way up to handstand. The judges have

:44:55.:44:59.

to decide was its strength, not swing? Second place for Yamamoto.

:45:00.:45:16.

Fabian Gonzales standing by. He did a good floor.

:45:17.:45:38.

Very nice on one handle. He is keeping the rhythm very nicely

:45:39.:45:55.

indeed. Picked up his feet and that gives a problem, they have got to

:45:56.:45:57.

stay stretched. A lovely feel of control at the end

:45:58.:46:12.

through that handstand sequence. A big smile. He is delighted with

:46:13.:46:17.

that. Yes, a very good routine there. Another well-prepared

:46:18.:46:22.

gymnast. Supple, able to swing beautifully. Super straight arms. A

:46:23.:46:35.

good controlled finish and a big smile.

:46:36.:46:46.

He is in third place at the moment with two down.

:46:47.:47:01.

As a junior, Sam was superb on this apparatus. A little bit of

:47:02.:47:07.

hesitation but he got away with it. He was a little but wild. He is

:47:08.:47:31.

really staying on. He is fighting to stay on. He clipped his feet on the

:47:32.:47:40.

way through the dismount. He was rocket fuelled. He really fought

:47:41.:47:47.

every inch of the way there because it was not easy. He showed his real

:47:48.:47:55.

determination. He is maturing well. Stylish, beautiful work but he did

:47:56.:47:59.

not quite get the feet together there. That will be a bit of a

:48:00.:48:02.

deduction from the judges there. You give marks away on your

:48:03.:48:14.

execution while you are building on your difficulty score. You have to

:48:15.:48:18.

be care for that one does not outweigh the other. He kicked the

:48:19.:48:28.

pommel horse with his legs up into the dismount. We will see. Plenty of

:48:29.:48:35.

discussion amongst the judges. There were some good features. It was

:48:36.:48:39.

difficult but he did give away a few tenths. I have to say, that was a

:48:40.:48:47.

little bit severe comparison, fourth place at the moment.

:48:48.:48:53.

Oleg Verniaiev. He is a suburbia gymnast, still only

:48:54.:49:11.

20 years old. Third all round and the European Championships. -- he is

:49:12.:49:17.

a superb gymnast. He almost got his thumb caught under

:49:18.:49:40.

his fist! But he recovered well. He's struggling now. Once the rhythm

:49:41.:49:48.

goes, you need steel biceps and deltoids.

:49:49.:50:01.

You need a smooth rhythm on this apparatus. He was very unsettled.

:50:02.:50:35.

He has good technique and lovely shape but he allows the routine to

:50:36.:50:46.

run away from him. And he let his back arch, almost lost control of

:50:47.:50:52.

the dismount. That will be quite costly.

:50:53.:51:07.

Dan Purves had a great start on floor.

:51:08.:51:29.

He is keeping the one handle the work very well indeed. He lost his

:51:30.:51:35.

legs a little. That will do nicely. So Dan Purvis

:51:36.:51:59.

has cashed in on that large floor score and that surely will take him

:52:00.:52:06.

into the lead. Well done, Dan Purvis. It is a piece he has not

:52:07.:52:11.

always been so comfortable on but that looked very good. He looked to

:52:12.:52:16.

turn into from the beginning. He controlled this really well as he

:52:17.:52:20.

cut back into the swing. He kept it going. Difficult work. He has upped

:52:21.:52:27.

his difficulty level. He really looks like he is on song at the

:52:28.:52:34.

moment. A lot of this is about confidence and the confidence that

:52:35.:52:38.

you are going to get through this routine, even if little errors occur

:52:39.:52:41.

and he had but in abundance today. Super stuff. Dan Purvis takes the

:52:42.:52:52.

lead. Oleg Verniaiev has slipped to fifth.

:52:53.:53:12.

The winner from Stuttgart has not had a good pub or horse event. --

:53:13.:53:17.

pommel horse event. He will start to make the leeway he

:53:18.:53:42.

needs. The shoulders need to be lower in the half leave across. The

:53:43.:53:49.

feet are too low, this is not a good start for him.

:53:50.:54:04.

He was a little bit arched and his feet little bit low in the Maltese.

:54:05.:54:09.

This is not what he wanted. One and a half twist in the double

:54:10.:54:28.

at the end but so many problems technically. You can certainly see

:54:29.:54:35.

the look on his face, he was not happy. The shoulders are meant to be

:54:36.:54:41.

level with the hands they long way off. He struggled a bit. The whole

:54:42.:54:48.

thing seemed to be a bit of a battle.

:54:49.:54:58.

That is a big score. There were a lot of problems. He was a lucky man

:54:59.:55:02.

by. Now Sam Oldham. Rings are not a great apparatus for

:55:03.:55:20.

Great Britain as a whole but good progress made on it.

:55:21.:55:35.

That was a nice transition from swing to cross. This is good work.

:55:36.:55:50.

Double double at the end. Well, that was a good routine from Sam Oldham.

:55:51.:55:59.

A couple of little problems but he is coming on very nicely indeed. 20

:56:00.:56:05.

years old. The British team, the coaches know this is apparatus they

:56:06.:56:09.

have got to make ground on and this is a good start for it. He swings

:56:10.:56:15.

well. The shoulders are nicely in line with the hands.

:56:16.:56:26.

He controlled the top of the swing. He's lost his back slightly but a

:56:27.:56:37.

super double 22 finish. -- a super double double two finish.

:56:38.:57:00.

He is an erratic performer, inconsistency has crept into his

:57:01.:57:04.

work over the last 12 months. Good technique with the double

:57:05.:57:30.

Tucker and double pike put together, nailed into the cross.

:57:31.:57:45.

That was good technique. Strong with the rings in the circle to

:57:46.:57:50.

handstand. Lovely technique. This is his class. I wish we could see it

:57:51.:57:56.

more consistently. That was a beautiful dismount. Oleg Verniaiev,

:57:57.:58:02.

when he shows class like that, Christine, we know what his

:58:03.:58:10.

potential is. Yes, and the smile, he almost looked a bit surprised that

:58:11.:58:14.

the landing. He makes gymnastics look quite effortless. When you know

:58:15.:58:21.

how hard this work is, great strength moves linked together.

:58:22.:58:31.

Rings have to show swinging and strength and that is just what he

:58:32.:58:40.

does. Lovely style, look how straight those arms are, how

:58:41.:58:46.

straight the body is. A classy landing as well.

:58:47.:58:59.

He is comfortably in the first at this stage.

:59:00.:59:13.

He gives very little away in his demeanour but he is a fine all-round

:59:14.:59:21.

gymnast. The Japanese are on the crest of a wave here. The style and

:59:22.:59:26.

approach to competitions is a model for the rest of the world. They are

:59:27.:59:29.

laid-back and very impressive. His shoulders were a little bit high

:59:30.:59:52.

on both occasions. But the fact that he is swinging into those difficult

:59:53.:59:55.

strongholds will build his difficulty. He nails that

:59:56.:00:00.

beautifully. Plenty of momentum, then stopped dead. Then lots of

:00:01.:00:08.

rhythm and control. Not a bad routine at all.

:00:09.:00:15.

He overcooked the giant a little bit. Get those rings turned out,

:00:16.:00:19.

young man! He nails the double double. An

:00:20.:00:32.

interesting routine, a few little problems, but he is steady and

:00:33.:00:37.

consistent. Some very nice work indeed. Just a

:00:38.:00:43.

couple of deductions at the end, but look how lovely and straight that

:00:44.:00:50.

body is. Every time they show a strength hold, the shoulders need to

:00:51.:01:00.

be down. That one was so impressive. You can see the rings are swinging

:01:01.:01:04.

slightly, but he wrapped in hard for the double-twisting, double back to

:01:05.:01:12.

finish. At the halfway stage, he is on cause

:01:13.:01:22.

for about an 87 or 88. Stylish Andrew D. -- Andrew D.

:01:23.:01:38.

Very clean and very good, technically full stop.

:01:39.:02:04.

Double pike for his D dismount. It is very difficult to nail that this

:02:05.:02:26.

band. -- that dismount. He is on course for a good all-around mark.

:02:27.:02:34.

He is very good, unspectacular, quiet, but very good. That was

:02:35.:02:43.

ambitious. Not quite low North. It is whether he has quite got the

:02:44.:02:47.

difficulty to give him the big score. He won't have too many

:02:48.:02:51.

deductions. Here is the dismount. He has gone into the lead now. A

:02:52.:03:09.

good competition brewing. Daniel Purvis, the leader after two,

:03:10.:03:12.

needs 14.033. I am sure he is capable. But his

:03:13.:03:32.

feet look very low, have his shoulders dropped below the rings?

:03:33.:03:40.

You get as many deductions for going below the rings as you do above.

:03:41.:03:51.

This is not his best apparatus. Lovely technique. Piked Dublin to

:03:52.:04:04.

handstand. A nice wind-up, a double double and he has mailbag. The

:04:05.:04:10.

second part of the routine made up for a few little problems earlier.

:04:11.:04:16.

Super shape. Just a little bit lower. But really moving from two

:04:17.:04:24.

strength moves, one straight to the other. That is impressive. Always a

:04:25.:04:30.

lovely handstand shape. It is very impressive, the swing, and kill the

:04:31.:04:37.

swing. He twists so strongly and aggressively. 14.966, a good score

:04:38.:04:50.

for Daniel Purvis. He could make the elusive 90 in this competition. A

:04:51.:04:55.

fabulous competition so far, but he has to keep it up.

:04:56.:05:04.

We felt Sam Oldham was a little bit hardly dealt with on the pommel, he

:05:05.:05:13.

has had his mark increased by a 10th, which lifts him into fifth at

:05:14.:05:18.

the halfway point. The men's all-around competition,

:05:19.:05:23.

Dan Purvis' competition is going as he would want, a very confident

:05:24.:05:29.

lead? He has had no major errors, a small split on his pommel horse, but

:05:30.:05:35.

getting good scores. A word on his rings. He has been working very

:05:36.:05:41.

hard. Rings have kind of let the British team down? As a nation we

:05:42.:05:45.

have always been quite weak on the rings, but over the last couple of

:05:46.:05:48.

months he has worked very hard with his coach. Instead of scoring 14.6

:05:49.:06:00.

or 14.7, he is up almost at 15. Verniaiev was mentioned. He is

:06:01.:06:06.

clawing his way back? He has regained his focus and he is clawing

:06:07.:06:11.

back the extra points. Others has only increased his rings score by

:06:12.:06:16.

two or three tenths, but makes all the difference between finishing

:06:17.:06:21.

first and finishing fourth. Dan Purvis will know he is not home and

:06:22.:06:25.

dry, three big pieces to come from Verniaiev? Rio he is amazing on the

:06:26.:06:32.

parallel bars, he could potentially score 16. And I think he and Purvis

:06:33.:06:40.

score around the same on the other bars. Lets join the commentators

:06:41.:06:42.

again for the men's vault. He needs 14.133. Most of these guys

:06:43.:07:05.

are using the tariff of 5.6, the two and a half twist. There you go, he

:07:06.:07:15.

made that. A little bit to the side, but that is another consistent

:07:16.:07:19.

performance. He had a few problems on the rings, but that will make up

:07:20.:07:24.

the difference. I was just thinking that, what a classy performance. He

:07:25.:07:31.

wraps that two and a half rates down the middle. He shows lovely height.

:07:32.:07:41.

Height and style in that twist. A very useful score for him, it

:07:42.:07:43.

gives him the lead. John Orozco has had a few problems

:07:44.:07:57.

on the first three apparatus. Can he come into his own in the second half

:07:58.:07:58.

of this competition? Yes, that is more like it. Just the

:07:59.:08:15.

double-twisting. A two and a half would have been nice.

:08:16.:08:24.

Always a difficult vault. Back handspring, the straight front

:08:25.:08:32.

somersault with the two twist. The floor sort of hit him. You can see

:08:33.:08:38.

the jolts through his head. But she really recovered well. He is such a

:08:39.:08:45.

strong gymnast. 14.833, just the ticket.

:08:46.:08:52.

He is slowly crawling into contention for a third or fourth

:08:53.:08:55.

place after a dismal beginning. He would be happy with 14.7 to take

:08:56.:09:03.

the lead. Oh, he just about cleared the decks.

:09:04.:09:20.

It was a deep landing, but he got it around. He really powered down

:09:21.:09:31.

there, arms all over the place. Really lifting well. It was a very

:09:32.:09:39.

good fault, he just needed a fraction more heels speed over a

:09:40.:09:43.

fraction more rotation, but he knew where the floor was.

:09:44.:09:50.

Moto needs 13.8 to get into the lead, and he could get that. --

:09:51.:10:09.

Yamamoto needs. It was just about scrabbled around.

:10:10.:10:32.

The tariff is 56, it will give him the score that he needs. He ambled

:10:33.:10:40.

in a little bit, he really didn't get cleanly on. He fought very well.

:10:41.:10:48.

He could have sat down so easily. But the turn on was the trouble. He

:10:49.:10:53.

got such a little bit of a turn that he was always off direction from the

:10:54.:10:57.

beginning. That will be heavily deducted.

:10:58.:11:03.

He finds himself in the root after four apparatus -- finds himself in

:11:04.:11:12.

the lead. But still some big guns to come.

:11:13.:11:21.

Difficult or not, it will be a clean fault for him. -- vault.

:11:22.:11:35.

Double twist, 15.2 will be the score they start with.

:11:36.:11:48.

Opting to use the round-off in the board allows him to get on very low

:11:49.:11:58.

and really lift high into the air. Plenty of time for two twists. He

:11:59.:12:03.

doesn't really need to run quite so fast for this. You could see him

:12:04.:12:08.

lift and twist. He really did not give much away. He takes the lead.

:12:09.:12:21.

Verniaiev pits constituency -- Verniaiev's consistency is a little

:12:22.:12:30.

bit up and down. He needs something solid and

:12:31.:12:45.

consistent to stay anywhere near in contention. He did that very nicely

:12:46.:13:02.

indeed. Well done. This is a really impressive vault.

:13:03.:13:09.

Two somersaults with a half turnout, a tiny bit off-line but so dynamic

:13:10.:13:15.

and impressive. Lifts up off the platform, pulls in tight, makes the

:13:16.:13:21.

turn very cleanly. That is real power. He has gone into the lead

:13:22.:13:34.

after four. That is the thing about Oleg Verniaiev, you can't write him

:13:35.:13:40.

off. Daniel Purvis, the leader at the

:13:41.:13:44.

halfway stage, needs 14.233 to keep up the momentum.

:13:45.:13:58.

Two 1/2-twist, a tiny buckle, but that will do business. He will stay

:13:59.:14:03.

in the lead with that. Textbook vaulting here. He flipped

:14:04.:14:18.

his head between arms, lifts up, wraps so efficiently. Just the

:14:19.:14:28.

little pace. Really clean and strong. He had a little look over

:14:29.:14:34.

his shoulder so he knew where the floor was. That will do very nicely,

:14:35.:14:38.

15. That is truly world-class. Keep it

:14:39.:14:47.

up, Dan. Oleg Verniaiev gave Daniel a little

:14:48.:15:02.

bit of a fright there but Daniel is now in the lead.

:15:03.:15:23.

The parallel bars is a very challenging apparatus. It has to be

:15:24.:15:28.

millimetre perfect. That was a good combination. He took

:15:29.:15:57.

the decision to leave the hand where it was. A good decision. A double

:15:58.:16:07.

pike. A few moments of insecurity but generally, that routine was

:16:08.:16:14.

good. He has made good progress on parallel bars. Yes, here's a classy

:16:15.:16:19.

gymnast. The difficulty has increased but it

:16:20.:16:33.

looked a bit hard work in certain areas. Lovely shapes. I am sure it

:16:34.:16:42.

is a routine which we will see improved in difficulty in confidence

:16:43.:16:47.

as he goes along. He lifted into a good double pike.

:16:48.:17:07.

For a man who got a bronze medal in the world Championships on this

:17:08.:17:13.

apparatus, that should be small beer for him but he can be erratic.

:17:14.:17:37.

This is the sort of form he demonstrated in Antwerp just a month

:17:38.:17:46.

or so ago. That was a lovely half term.

:17:47.:18:02.

This is good work from John Orozco won one of his favourite apparatus.

:18:03.:18:13.

A good Healy. Inward pirouette. He lost to shape a little bit but the

:18:14.:18:18.

double pike, he sticks that and that is why he is a medallist at world

:18:19.:18:25.

championship level. Good stuff. A beautiful lift into the dismount. He

:18:26.:18:29.

was way high above the parallel bars when he did his double back

:18:30.:18:31.

somersault. Super technique there. That was a

:18:32.:18:54.

tiny break in shape. You love this, Chris. I love the height of the

:18:55.:19:03.

bars. He uses it so well. John Orozco is looking relaxed and so he

:19:04.:19:09.

should with that score. He set himself the target of the

:19:10.:19:11.

possibility of a third place in. When you are that tall, you can see

:19:12.:19:37.

how you need to use those shapes fro cleverly to get them in the right

:19:38.:19:38.

sequence. He was off a bit quick but very,

:19:39.:19:57.

very nice from Fabian Gonzales. Tall, elegant, very stylish. In just

:19:58.:20:03.

the way he makes the rings look very hard, you make the parallel bars

:20:04.:20:08.

look easy. A really nice rhythm. Works with the apparatus

:20:09.:20:13.

beautifully. He uses the bounce from the bars at exactly the right

:20:14.:20:16.

moment. It looks really classy. A beautiful routine. A little bit

:20:17.:20:37.

deep on the landing but the work on the bars was superb.

:20:38.:20:46.

Fabian Gonzales 's second at the moment. Now Andre Likhovitskiy, Mr

:20:47.:20:54.

style will stop. He understands completely the

:20:55.:21:15.

techniques. That was lovely. There is the Healy to upper arms.

:21:16.:21:33.

That is a well put together exercise.

:21:34.:21:40.

Just a tiny pace forward. That was lovely work. Effortless. I think we

:21:41.:21:50.

have said, on most pieces of apparatus, he makes it look so easy.

:21:51.:21:57.

Style, control, not the most difficult routines, but really well

:21:58.:22:05.

timed. Super turn. Kicks out just at the right moment. Very good

:22:06.:22:10.

technique on all of those under somersault actions. He bent his arms

:22:11.:22:15.

a little bit but he really is a stylist. It might come down to

:22:16.:22:20.

difficulty but this is lovely to watch.

:22:21.:22:29.

He is strong but mostly he uses technique. A very impressive

:22:30.:22:44.

gymnast. Andre Likhovitskiy has popped into the lead. Style has seen

:22:45.:22:53.

him through. Oleg Verniaiev now. He is in the situation where he needs

:22:54.:23:01.

14.266 to take the lead and he is more than capable of that.

:23:02.:23:23.

What happened the? He was not happy with the handstand. Maybe the bar

:23:24.:23:32.

moved, do not know. He has made a complaint. This could be a bit of

:23:33.:23:37.

controversy. You can see it is moving quite noticeably. Oleg

:23:38.:23:46.

Verniaiev is about to start his second attempt at the parallel bars.

:23:47.:23:48.

He needs to keep his focus. He had to bend his arms in the

:23:49.:24:20.

second under somersault. That was difficult work and he has survived

:24:21.:24:21.

it well. Was that a very quick thinking

:24:22.:24:42.

exercise on his part? The double pike was clean and high. Oleg

:24:43.:24:45.

Verniaiev is on course. Little bit of a shaky start. He was

:24:46.:24:58.

fighting the apparatus a bit at the beginning. Very difficult work but

:24:59.:25:05.

certainly, once he settled into the routine, his usual style and

:25:06.:25:10.

composure serviced. Such height and swing up to the handstand.

:25:11.:25:20.

In press of stuff. -- impressive stuff. A superb routine. You cannot

:25:21.:25:34.

write Oleg Verniaiev off. Superb work.

:25:35.:25:56.

He really needs to keep his focus but he has lost that position. He is

:25:57.:26:01.

having to think very quickly. After that squeaky start he is back

:26:02.:26:16.

on course. Did he make contact then? It sounded

:26:17.:26:34.

a bit heavy. He has got to keep focus. There was a little hop to the

:26:35.:26:45.

side. For the first time, his lead is in jeopardy. Oleg Verniaiev gave

:26:46.:26:46.

him a difficult task. He hesitated a little bit. You could

:26:47.:27:00.

see from the time he took, he was a bit cautious about it. He covered it

:27:01.:27:06.

well though. He dropped his hit a little bit. It was not the smoothest

:27:07.:27:12.

of starts. -- he dropped his hit a little bit.

:27:13.:27:22.

He killed his swing too much. You do not want to much but you need enough

:27:23.:27:32.

to get you up there. He recovered very well. He has got such a good

:27:33.:27:39.

line. A lovely front somersault. I do not think he hit the bar. On the

:27:40.:27:43.

replay looked cleaner. He will set up a great finale on

:27:44.:27:59.

high bar. Goodness me, it has all come down to

:28:00.:28:21.

this. It is literally down to the wire. Oleg Verniaiev is very

:28:22.:28:26.

consistent on this. Guess, I would have said before the competition if

:28:27.:28:30.

he was going to fall anywhere, it would be the high bar. That was what

:28:31.:28:34.

he did at the world championship. It will be interesting. We will be

:28:35.:28:38.

watching this with sweaty palms. Come on, Dan Purvis. After this, the

:28:39.:28:42.

champion will be crowned. He was the gold medallist as a

:28:43.:29:07.

junior in 2010. You can expect him to pass that score.

:29:08.:29:15.

That was a peculiar action down the back but he got away with it. Good

:29:16.:29:25.

catch of technique. Lovely, clean straight arms.

:29:26.:29:39.

Some shaky moments but he is going to survive it. Thank you very much,

:29:40.:29:55.

double twisting, double straight, punches the air and that was grit

:29:56.:30:00.

and determination all the way. It was indeed with some new elements in

:30:01.:30:04.

there. He scrabbled bit in the middle but he will be very delighted

:30:05.:30:09.

with putting all that work together in this pressurised situation.

:30:10.:30:18.

He put the hands-on in the wrong grip. He did very well to change it.

:30:19.:30:27.

How quick did he think? He is a great gymnast.

:30:28.:30:41.

86.331 is an impressive all-around score.

:30:42.:30:48.

John Orozco finishes on his best apparatus. After an indifferent

:30:49.:31:01.

first half, he started the revival on the vault, shot into contention

:31:02.:31:02.

after parallel bars. Oh, and he is off! It is a big skill

:31:03.:31:22.

to put a full turn in that. It is a big, big move. What a pity, he

:31:23.:31:25.

deserved to hang onto this. The trouble is the body is quite out

:31:26.:31:37.

of line. He got a lot of forces going through the hands. It is a

:31:38.:31:39.

big, big skill. You can see what this routine would

:31:40.:32:10.

normally bring him. It is such a pity for him.

:32:11.:32:19.

Orozco is showing us what he is capable of.

:32:20.:32:28.

It looked a little bit flat, but he got it under control. What a pity

:32:29.:32:33.

for him. Lovely, exciting stuff. Good original work. He is lovely and

:32:34.:32:49.

tight. That was another deduction. He was struggling to keep the swing

:32:50.:33:00.

going. But a super catch with a good stretch. No interrupted swing. It

:33:01.:33:06.

looked very flat. He didn't open his hips as he came off. A bit of an

:33:07.:33:17.

up-and-down routine. 13.866, think what would have happened if he had

:33:18.:33:21.

kept contact. John Orozco is in the lead.

:33:22.:33:33.

This is good apparatus for Andre Likhovitskiy. He was 12 all-around

:33:34.:33:44.

in the World Championships. -- he was 12.

:33:45.:33:53.

When you have a gymnast who can swing like this, you can pin the

:33:54.:34:01.

difficulty onto it. At 20 years of age, he has a very promising future.

:34:02.:34:08.

That is the cleanest of those combinations we have seen. Shades of

:34:09.:34:15.

the 70s. People think this style is new because it is so old. He does it

:34:16.:34:23.

very, very well. Full-twist and a double straight, and a consummate

:34:24.:34:28.

demonstration. Keep the routine within your capabilities and you

:34:29.:34:32.

will score well. He is a great, great gymnast in the making.

:34:33.:34:38.

And made a lot of friends here in Glasgow. His work has been a

:34:39.:34:44.

macular. Every element has been performed well. -- his work has been

:34:45.:34:52.

immaculate. Stamping his own style on a lot of the work. And it is

:34:53.:34:57.

style, that is the word, it is style.

:34:58.:35:05.

That throw over took a lot of courage. So impressive.

:35:06.:35:14.

It was a very impressive routine. The judges agreed, 15.066 for Andre

:35:15.:35:21.

Likhovitskiy, he is in the lead with a very good score of 88.597. That is

:35:22.:35:30.

his best ever. Daniel Purvis needs 14.03 to two

:35:31.:35:37.

overhaul the Belarussian, Andre Likhovitskiy.

:35:38.:35:42.

The roar of the crowd will boost him. He has been in the lead all the

:35:43.:35:50.

way through. Just a little trip in the parallel bars.

:35:51.:36:21.

He has played safe here. The D score is down, so he had to nail the

:36:22.:36:34.

dismount, but it was a good dismount. He needed to go through,

:36:35.:36:41.

he did not need to take chances. Weldon, Daniel Purvis. It was a very

:36:42.:36:46.

clean routine. He did not give many marks away. His difficulty score

:36:47.:36:51.

will not be the highest, but his execution score might be. You can

:36:52.:37:02.

see his release and re-grasp. A good work on the pirouette.

:37:03.:37:15.

He is able to come out cleanly. Great competition.

:37:16.:37:33.

14.566, good enough, 89.131, a very impressive score. He is in first

:37:34.:37:38.

place at the moment, one big threat to come. Here here's, Oleg

:37:39.:37:51.

Verniaiev. -- here he is. 14.233 is required, and, dare I say it, he has

:37:52.:37:55.

been known to buckle under pressure on high bar? Member the World

:37:56.:37:59.

Championships, he had about four goes. But last 18... Weekend he

:38:00.:38:07.

nailed it, so let's see. You can hear a pin drop in here. The

:38:08.:38:46.

bar creaking, the only sound you can here. He is going through very well.

:38:47.:38:58.

Just the pace back, double double, he claps his hands. He feels he has

:38:59.:39:05.

done enough. I am sure he has done the job. All his work has always

:39:06.:39:15.

been so stylish. Very, very nice work. That was the error. He lost

:39:16.:39:23.

the combination. We will see how the judges view that. He needs 14.266,

:39:24.:39:32.

from memory. High bar scores are pretty tough to come by. It will be

:39:33.:39:36.

tight. Oleg Verniaiev has 14.9, a huge

:39:37.:39:54.

score of 89.798 to take the Glasgow World Cup event for the men. He had

:39:55.:40:00.

his moments but, my goodness me, he overhauled Dan Purvis on parallel

:40:01.:40:04.

bars to emerge victorious. Dan Purvis, a great job to take second

:40:05.:40:09.

place, but that man is hugely impressive.

:40:10.:40:17.

Oleg Verniaiev came good on parallel bars after a superb fold to get the

:40:18.:40:20.

edge of the Daniel Purvis who had, in the end, after leading the

:40:21.:40:26.

competition, to be content with a silver medal. Andre Likhovitskiy's

:40:27.:40:33.

style won him a bronze medal. John Orozco had a problem, so he dropped

:40:34.:40:39.

down. Sam Oldham is down in seventh place. There they are. Three very

:40:40.:40:45.

exciting young gymnast with a great future.

:40:46.:40:52.

I am happy to be finishing the year healthy. Going into next year, I

:40:53.:40:58.

know the routines I have got, serve them were watered down today. I was

:40:59.:41:00.

fighting down. You cut the consistency going. --

:41:01.:41:46.

kept the consistency going? It was tough, but the crowd kept me going.

:41:47.:41:50.

It was a battle between me and Verniaiev until the end. Isn't it

:41:51.:41:54.

great when the all-around competition comes down to the final

:41:55.:41:59.

apparatus? What a competition! It has been really exciting. Having a

:42:00.:42:06.

few mistakes made it more exciting, making it go down to the final piece

:42:07.:42:12.

of apparatus. What do you think Dan would have been hoping for, coming

:42:13.:42:17.

into this? Up until the last minute we thought it was gold? He would

:42:18.:42:23.

have been hoping to go through all six routines clean and hopefully

:42:24.:42:27.

ending up with a medal, he has done better than that, he and Scott

:42:28.:42:32.

Silver, almost gold. He has done himself proud. -- he has got

:42:33.:42:37.

silver. He has tried out the new routines as well? Yes, and this is

:42:38.:42:48.

the best place to try it. Good news for you, you will be competing

:42:49.:42:52.

together at the Commonwealth Games? A fellow team-mate? It will be great

:42:53.:42:59.

to have him alongside me, competing in Scotland at the Commonwealth

:43:00.:43:03.

Games. He is on fire, hopefully he can keep his form. Gymnast that you

:43:04.:43:08.

are used to competing with in the British team will be split into

:43:09.:43:12.

European countries and you are competing against them? It is a

:43:13.:43:17.

strange feeling but it is a great opportunity for some younger

:43:18.:43:20.

gymnasts to experience the international stage. It is weird to

:43:21.:43:25.

be separated but it is great for the younger gymnasts to get an

:43:26.:43:29.

opportunity. A weird feeling that this is the end of season for the

:43:30.:43:34.

gymnast? This is the final all-around competition of the year,

:43:35.:43:38.

so people will be looking forward to the Christmas period and then pick

:43:39.:43:42.

it up next year. A few pounds will be put on over the next week, let's

:43:43.:43:46.

have some Christmas pudding to celebrate ex-Asian mob that is it

:43:47.:43:52.

from us in bars go, don't forget that Final Score is starting, and

:43:53.:44:01.

don't forget he... To vote for your favourite in Sports Personality of
