attention to Silverstone. It is time for Inside F1 with Lee McKenzie.

qualifying. Eddie Jordan joins me. I know the strike means a lot to you.

I spent 25 years of my life here. I loved every minute of it. It is a

great example of high technology. Eight of the teams currently in

Formula One are positioned around here and a lot of the little

businesses are wrapped the pinnacle of the highest level of technology.

This is a very important area to Britain. It is amazing to see the

number of great British drivers as we have had. And great British cars.

Sometimes we forget how brilliant these cars were and now we're back

in a Renaissance when we're back in a time when the great cars being

built here. It is a successful time for drivers and cars. The

grandstands were packed as qualifying got underway. One of the

strangest qualifying sessions of recent memory began in jump

conditions. `` damp conditions. As the track dried, slick tyres became

the favourite choice. Ferrari and Williams left the challenge the last

moment just as rain fell again. The two Williams cars that had been so

successful in Austria were out immediately. In another last`minute

flurry of times, Lewis Hamilton was again fastest. Slick tyres are

required for Q3 but the track was still slippery and places. Nico

Rosberg reported more rain. Mercedes went ahead again and Lewis Hamilton

was on top once again. It looked as though the times were set the

drivers went out in the last moments just in case. Lewis Hamilton

completed the first sector and saw that he was slower than before so I

allowed Nico Rosberg to pass. Suddenly tyres were improving. Nico

Rosberg scorched around Silverstone to claim pole position today after

disbelief and dejection to Lewis Hamilton who had abandoned his lap

altogether. This error of judgement will see him start sixth on the

grid. It was definitely a wacky day at the races. I'm really happy to be

heard and it means a lot to family and friends and whatever happens to

tomorrow. , it will be good. I was good enough to keep the car in the

front row. I was stuck in the gearbox of Lewis Hamilton and I was

forced into that position because I ran out of time. He aborted and I

knew the chance was there even if I get that slower, I can make back all

the time in the last three laps and I made up a huge chunk in the last

three corners. How did Ferrari and Williams get it so wrong? This is

the worst qualifying for both of them for such a long time. Both

teams have such experience and have been world champions and you would

expect for them to maximise on the uncertainty of the weather. This was

the time they should have excelled, particularly Ferrari. They have

drivers capable of getting up there, both world champions themselves and

an unfavourable circumstances and conditions such as we had today,

that is when you would expect them to make a move. The track dried out

so quickly but Lewis Hamilton should have stayed? He made a major blunder

and that was that he underestimated the condition of the track and it is

the option for the driver to know when the right time is to push and

not the right time to push Andy completely made a mistake. He

underestimated the speed that was left in the track, certainly the

third section. That is where Nico Rosberg psychologically, as well as

with speed, pounced on that opportunity and that was the fault

of Nico Rosberg. Surely by being out, you can only gain but you will

not lose anything? Some people would say it was a form of arrogance and

others would say it was futile selectors minimise the damage to a

gearbox. ``so let us four. Lewis Hamilton said he was bitterly

disappointed by what happened in Q3. Could you believe what result? We

were expecting pole position six this is not what we were hoping

for. We were hoping for more but we have fingers crossed for tomorrow.

It will be difficult for tomorrow. I think he will be good tomorrow and

we're hoping for that anyway. He said it was his own mistake. He has

not had the rub of the green this year, has he? Letters be honest.

Jenson button is in the top three. ``so let us ``Jensen Button Lewis

Hamilton has a lot to do but the crowd are feeling positive. You have

a team that is not quite anchored to the back of the grid but when that

is a glimmer of hope they pounce on it, finishing eighth and then ninth

in that race which got them two points which brings a lot to ninth

place the championship and then capitalising on it here. I think

they are lovely little team and they're putting in true fighting

spirit which everyone wants to see from the underdogs.

Jensen Button starts on third. Do you think that Lewis Hamilton can

cut through the field? I still believe he can win this race. I

haven't never met a driver so gobsmacked. You could see that he

was still wounded by the mistake and he has the ability such as Nigel

Mansell did with the crowd behind them. We want to win. We are live on
