Glenavon Mike Sid bottom. It's here. It's upon us. The annual pilgrimage.

:00:08.:00:23.

Football's showpiece. Passion. Drama. Twists. Turns. Fans. Heroes.

:00:24.:00:30.

Lifting the cup. Welcome to Windsor Park to the 136th

:00:31.:00:54.

Irish Cup Final and they have come out in their thousands, the rain is

:00:55.:01:00.

here, there are 11,000 and counting and they are here to enjoy arguably

:01:01.:01:04.

the biggest single day in local football. It's Linfield against

:01:05.:01:10.

Glenavon, the Irish Cup Final and it's live here on BBC Northern

:01:11.:01:16.

Ireland. Afternoon, you're all very, very

:01:17.:01:20.

welcome to the show, not least my studio guests Chris Morgan and

:01:21.:01:23.

Stephen Baxter. Chris, massive day, which way is it going to go? I don't

:01:24.:01:30.

know. I tipped glen avenuen at the start, the first round of the cup, I

:01:31.:01:34.

had a fancy for them, they normally finish the season really well and

:01:35.:01:39.

have done so again, they are in good form. They are up against a good

:01:40.:01:43.

team also in form so I've tipped them at the start and can't change

:01:44.:01:50.

now but it will be a close game. Stephen? If we get the open flowing

:01:51.:01:55.

football that we got where both teams go for it a bit, we'll be in

:01:56.:02:00.

for a great game with the bunker crowd and the wet pitch which always

:02:01.:02:04.

creates a few mistakes and two teams that are really playing well.

:02:05.:02:16.

Glenavon have a few good ones in their team. I appreciate you both

:02:17.:02:23.

being here in this game. Every kick of every ball coming your way this

:02:24.:02:27.

afternoon. The teams arrived a short time ago. There's Gary, Paul,

:02:28.:02:41.

Millar, the player/manager there. And Braniff who bagged four in the

:02:42.:02:45.

semi-final. What can we read into the body language? Owen Bradley

:02:46.:02:50.

shaking hands with the Maestro. He's brought half of Glenavon we are told

:02:51.:02:59.

this afternoon. David Healey's boyhood club. Maybe more nerves

:03:00.:03:05.

there, Andy Waterworth, the captain, Niall Quinn texting to say he's on

:03:06.:03:09.

the bench today and Jackie Fullerton, David Jeffrey and David

:03:10.:03:14.

Healey, what a trio! Let's shine the Spotlight on Glenavon and the

:03:15.:03:18.

player/manager in particular. Gary Hamilton's been the bringer of

:03:19.:03:26.

success, stability and silverware. It's time for them to celebrate.

:03:27.:03:41.

Thankfully for me, it's got better and better every year. Last season

:03:42.:03:49.

finished third in the league. It's been great.

:03:50.:04:01.

The fans are great, the way they treat the players, looking after the

:04:02.:04:06.

players and staff, it's unbelievable. It's not like any

:04:07.:04:09.

other football club I've ever been part of. We've got that never say

:04:10.:04:16.

die attitude. We are an honest, hard-working team, the team spirit

:04:17.:04:18.

is unbelievable. It was the best feeling for me ever.

:04:19.:04:33.

To be with your home town team, to support them all your life, to be

:04:34.:04:37.

the manager and end up coming on to the pitch and playing a wee bit of a

:04:38.:04:41.

part in it, and getting the win, there is no better feeling than

:04:42.:04:45.

that. Fantastic scenes, Gary Hamilton hugging his grandfather.

:04:46.:04:50.

It's unbelievable because my grandad's still going strong now. At

:04:51.:04:58.

that time he took a couple of wee turns and it was emotional for me

:04:59.:05:02.

because I thought it could be the last time he saw me playing but he

:05:03.:05:07.

survived, he's going great. Smythe! I think a final touch was there and

:05:08.:05:14.

Burns has broken the deadlock and Linfield will be back for the Cup

:05:15.:05:22.

Final! We go back a long way. I went to Blackburn when he was at

:05:23.:05:26.

Manchester United, so we saw each other at school every Thursday

:05:27.:05:28.

because we went to the same school over there. It's funny saying this,

:05:29.:05:33.

but he was a hero of mine, only a year older than me, but the way he

:05:34.:05:36.

scored goals for Northern Ireland, in my time, he's been the best ever

:05:37.:05:43.

and it's great now, probably about 20 years on, since we are playing

:05:44.:05:46.

together, we are going to be standing in the dug-outs together in

:05:47.:05:49.

the Irish Cup Final. Whose name will be on that trophy? !

:05:50.:05:57.

There he is, grandad, among the 4500-strong Glenavon support. Chris,

:05:58.:06:01.

unquestionably a fine footballer but maturing all the while, Gary

:06:02.:06:05.

Hamilton as a manager? No doubt. His ability as a player. I was fortunate

:06:06.:06:10.

enough to play with im. Incredibly gifted striker. Could do everything

:06:11.:06:17.

as a front player. Not the most conventional manager ever I would

:06:18.:06:21.

have thought. You are right, he's maturing and he's a fine manager,

:06:22.:06:26.

already won one Irish Cup, potential to win another today, not too many

:06:27.:06:30.

would argue with that appointment now. A broad smile on your face,

:06:31.:06:36.

Stephen. Hold that thought! Outside of George Best best, this man's

:06:37.:06:40.

probably Northern Ireland's most iconic footballer. He's been in

:06:41.:06:44.

charge of the club since November of last year, the ride has been bumpy

:06:45.:06:48.

at times. He's of course David Healey.

:06:49.:06:56.

When I first came in and took the job, an Irish Cup Final was a long

:06:57.:07:09.

way off, so it was one of the targets. Especially when we lost to

:07:10.:07:19.

Ballymena. It was a game I fully expected us to win. We didn't do

:07:20.:07:24.

enough to win it. The players grouped after the game and I said it

:07:25.:07:28.

hurt me that night losing the Cup Final.

:07:29.:07:37.

I've had many tough times as a player, but as a manager, you take

:07:38.:07:45.

full responsibility for picking the team at half time and before the

:07:46.:07:48.

game people were saying Linfield haven't lost for three in a row, if

:07:49.:07:54.

they lose one more, it's going to be 1859 or something. It hurts. It

:07:55.:08:03.

really did hurt. People were questioning me, is he doing a good

:08:04.:08:06.

job, does he know enough about the league and this, that and the other.

:08:07.:08:11.

That hurt me because I was a big fan of the Irish league.

:08:12.:08:15.

That could be the winner... I don't think it's me who's got them

:08:16.:08:20.

playing, you know, there's always been a talent in this group of

:08:21.:08:27.

players. I've spoken to the previous managers, David Jeffrey and Warren

:08:28.:08:31.

Feeney and they sort of say, you know, they just lack something, what

:08:32.:08:35.

do they lack and it was down to me to try to find out and give them a

:08:36.:08:40.

little edge to win the games. Mulgrew. Great save! Linfield have

:08:41.:08:47.

done it. We have not won a trophy for four years, the Irish cup, and

:08:48.:08:51.

it's been too long for a club of this size, the standards and

:08:52.:08:59.

demands, recent months what we have done it's down to the players

:09:00.:09:02.

because we have worked hard as a group. Hopefully we'll give a good

:09:03.:09:06.

account of oushess in the final. If we do that, it should be a good game

:09:07.:09:10.

and hopefully we can come out on top. David Healy, his light shines

:09:11.:09:22.

on and on and on but will Glenavon put their lights out this afternoon?

:09:23.:09:25.

Unquestionable talent as a player, but as a manager do you sense after

:09:26.:09:29.

the bumpy start that he's grown into this post? Very much so. I've been

:09:30.:09:34.

very impressed with how he's handled himself in all areas of the job.

:09:35.:09:39.

He's been at a lot of games, watching the junior football and the

:09:40.:09:42.

younger players, he's been around all of Northern Ireland, if you

:09:43.:09:45.

like, trying to search out what he wants and how he'll put his stamp on

:09:46.:09:50.

this and grow players into the team. We have seen that with the

:09:51.:09:56.

introduction of young Paul Smythe. He's brave in his decision-making

:09:57.:10:00.

which is very important. He's made a call today at the goalkeeper and you

:10:01.:10:04.

have to do that, be brave in your decision because you know what you

:10:05.:10:07.

want. Single-minded because the buck stops with you. I'm glad to say he

:10:08.:10:12.

stood up to that today. Right now, let us take the temperature pitch

:10:13.:10:15.

side and say good afternoon to Thomas who is with a couple of

:10:16.:10:21.

familiar faces. Pretty heavy rain here over the past

:10:22.:10:26.

half hour so there is a zip off the surface. A relaxed atmosphere

:10:27.:10:40.

amongst the players, Matthew Clarke and warming up here with his

:10:41.:10:46.

team-mate. Two men who know what it's like to be involved in Cup

:10:47.:10:52.

Finals, not in a playing capacity today though, great atmosphere for

:10:53.:10:57.

the players. What's it been like in the dressing room, nerves from a

:10:58.:11:02.

Glenavon perspective? The boys are settling well. Watched a bit of a

:11:03.:11:07.

video and I think the boy runs for it today. When it comes for goals

:11:08.:11:12.

and Cup Finals, you scored a special one a couple of years ago. Talk us

:11:13.:11:15.

through that strike? Couldn't believe it myself. We are one down,

:11:16.:11:20.

man sent off, we thought, we may as well have a go and it worked out

:11:21.:11:28.

well on the day. You were the man who won the free kick and did all

:11:29.:11:32.

the hard work? I have to say that because that's all I've heard about

:11:33.:11:36.

for the last two years is the old kick. In all fairness to Kyle, it

:11:37.:11:40.

was a great free kick, a great day out. A fantastic performance that

:11:41.:11:43.

day from all the boys and it was a great game. The sending off maybe

:11:44.:11:49.

could have went either way, but we hope there's no controversial

:11:50.:11:51.

refereeing decision today and all round just a good game. Briefly,

:11:52.:11:58.

where is the match going to be won or lost today? I'm not sure. There

:11:59.:12:03.

are match-winners everywhere when you look across both teams so I'm

:12:04.:12:07.

kind of looking around going, if we can get crosses in, Burns is always

:12:08.:12:12.

a threat, you know, then you look on the opposite end, if Braniff shows

:12:13.:12:17.

up, that could be tricky. It will be a fantastic game no matter what way

:12:18.:12:23.

it goes. Thank you very much both of you. A fantastic atmosphere, as I

:12:24.:12:28.

say. The roar of the Lynn peopled fans with the players warming up in

:12:29.:12:39.

front of them -- Linfield fans. Kyle and Guy in opposing camps

:12:40.:12:45.

today. Healy makes the brave calls. In Portsmouth the 18-year-old's made

:12:46.:12:48.

a big call today and he is your one to watch? Very much so.

:12:49.:13:03.

Smyth is a live wire, he looks to get into spaces, that's hard to pick

:13:04.:13:10.

up at times. Look at the space when he gets the ball, five yards of

:13:11.:13:15.

space, the mark of a good striker, that's what it's about upfront.

:13:16.:13:19.

Another brilliant finish here. I was at that game live on the night and

:13:20.:13:24.

he put the keeper on his bottom. Composure, taking his time. The mark

:13:25.:13:30.

of a class player. That's born into you, you don't get taught that, he's

:13:31.:13:34.

18 and is playing like a veteran. David saw that in him as soon as he

:13:35.:13:37.

came into the ground. He established what we needed, thought he needed a

:13:38.:13:41.

bit more pace up the top end of the park and put that in and the team

:13:42.:13:45.

have taken off from Paul Smyth coming in. We could have picked a

:13:46.:13:49.

handful from Glenavon. Cooper you've decided to look at. What stands out

:13:50.:13:55.

for him for you? He's a new signing, brought in at the start of the

:13:56.:13:59.

season. It's his directness, he runs to people, commits to people, he's

:14:00.:14:05.

been a great signing. Glenavon bought him in from Ballyclare. Joel

:14:06.:14:12.

Cooper again, he shoots from outside the box though, he takes

:14:13.:14:19.

opportunities there. He's a threat. I watched him first game of the

:14:20.:14:24.

season. He came off the bench along with Gary and galvanised Glenavon.

:14:25.:14:28.

No emergency up until he came on. Suddenly he was a young guy coming

:14:29.:14:33.

on making his debut and Glenavon got close to getting a point that day

:14:34.:14:38.

because he came on the pitch, made people work. He was honest and he's

:14:39.:14:44.

really kicked on from there and is now an established first team

:14:45.:14:48.

player. He plays nearly every week, so just interesting to see how it

:14:49.:14:52.

goes with a Cup Final. Expecting big things. We'll hopefully have goals

:14:53.:15:00.

this afternoon. This is the fourth meeting of the Cup Final for these

:15:01.:15:06.

two teams. Linfield won, then Glenavon, then this was the match

:15:07.:15:12.

programme from 1961's final. Household names in there, 5-1 was

:15:13.:15:17.

the eventual score, Campbell with a hat trick for Glenavon, Jimmy Jones

:15:18.:15:22.

got two, Tommy Dickson, the Duke of Windsor, of course, you see him

:15:23.:15:31.

there. Braithwaite, Jones, Dugan, the great Jimmy Jones and that's all

:15:32.:15:38.

the way from 61, a great piece of history. A closer look at today's

:15:39.:15:44.

referee. The final day of the Irish league, a big, big day for Raymond

:15:45.:15:51.

Hetherington as we look at him going through his final preparations here?

:15:52.:15:54.

Yes. It's a big game for everybody and he'll play as big a part as the

:15:55.:16:00.

players. I hope we are not talking about wrongly made decisions at any

:16:01.:16:04.

course during the day. There is a lot of exposure and we have been

:16:05.:16:07.

highlighting a lot of refereeing decisions of late. It's his first

:16:08.:16:11.

Cup Final. There'll be nerves for everybody. I hope he has a good

:16:12.:16:16.

game. We don't want to be talking about mistakes, we have done enough

:16:17.:16:22.

of that this season. There'll be pressure on him, pressure on the

:16:23.:16:25.

players and managers, I hope he performs. He's in the invidious

:16:26.:16:30.

position that he's not a manager and can't criticise. A referee is an

:16:31.:16:34.

important part of the game, it's a massive day for him? The big thing I

:16:35.:16:40.

like about Raymond Hetherington is his man-management skills. He has a

:16:41.:16:43.

communication with the players and managers. I really like that about

:16:44.:16:49.

him. He understands the game very well and works hard. This is a big

:16:50.:16:54.

day for him. He did our match at Glentoran last week and it was the

:16:55.:16:59.

dress rehearsal for this, the linesman, the fourth official, et

:17:00.:17:04.

cetera, they were all there. All the manager get a wee bit upset at times

:17:05.:17:10.

but the referees do their best, there is so much at stake at times.

:17:11.:17:15.

Another big name pitch side now with TK.

:17:16.:17:20.

This is what it's all about today, the famous Irish cup trophy. The

:17:21.:17:23.

play verse made their way into the dressing room for a few last-minute

:17:24.:17:27.

words from both sets of management teams, the red carpet is out and we

:17:28.:17:32.

have goal-scoring Royalty alongside us, Peter Thompson and Glenn

:17:33.:17:36.

Ferguson. Peter, you've some record in Irish Cup Finals, tell us about

:17:37.:17:47.

it? Yes, six finals, six wins, six goals, it's been great, can't get

:17:48.:17:52.

better than that. You hope you still play for games like this. Hopefully

:17:53.:17:56.

it's a good game. How important are moments like this in the dressing

:17:57.:18:01.

room for the player? I think it's massive. Obviously Linfield haven't

:18:02.:18:07.

won the last four years, the new manager's come in and done a good

:18:08.:18:11.

job and it will give them the belief, almost like it was for us

:18:12.:18:17.

when we won the Setanta Cup, to have a period of success. They'll be set

:18:18.:18:22.

up for that down the line. Glenavon will have a major say in that. It

:18:23.:18:28.

should be a good game. Glenn, you look like you are savouring the

:18:29.:18:32.

moment here, big crowd, big atmosphere, you have a foot in both

:18:33.:18:35.

camps, having scored for both teams. Where do you think this game's going

:18:36.:18:42.

to be won today? I think the quality players in both teams, whoever

:18:43.:18:46.

settles best, gets on the ball and makes thing happen. Braniff is

:18:47.:18:51.

quality for Glenavon. He could make a difference. Paul Smyth is pacy and

:18:52.:18:59.

quick. Mulgrew will be key for Linfield today. Makes the driving

:19:00.:19:05.

runs forward. It could go either way. So many different players and

:19:06.:19:09.

good players on both teams, so it's a big, big occasion for them and I

:19:10.:19:15.

hope it settles well. A huge call from David Healy to start Gareth

:19:16.:19:19.

Deane in goal. What do you make of that? It is, particularly because

:19:20.:19:24.

Glenavon rely a lot on the set pieces. Cooper's delivery is very

:19:25.:19:31.

good and Simon Kelly and Keith Bradley, they've got kierin Martyn,

:19:32.:19:35.

big lads pressuring the team, so as good a keeper as he is, he'll be

:19:36.:19:39.

very nervous. Glenn and Peter, thank you very much. As I said before,

:19:40.:19:44.

goal-scoring Royalty, one of the deadliest strike forces in local

:19:45.:19:48.

football and Mark, I'm sure they could still do the job now!

:19:49.:19:54.

There's a man who can still do a job, big day for the fans and the

:19:55.:20:00.

players and a big, big day for our Jack can I Fullerton, there he is,

:20:01.:20:08.

getting his standing ovation alongside David Jeffrey, this his

:20:09.:20:13.

final Irish Cup Final call. -- Jackie Fullerton. We are proud that

:20:14.:20:17.

he's still the man at the microphone. He's a legend? Oh,

:20:18.:20:22.

listen, I could tell you so many stories about Jackie, he's just a

:20:23.:20:26.

fabulous person, who he's given to the game in Northern Ireland is

:20:27.:20:31.

enormous -- what. We are all very grateful for what he's done for us

:20:32.:20:36.

over the years. Good guy. Jackie Fullerton, how is it in the

:20:37.:20:40.

commentary box, how are you feeling? Nervous, nervous. It's great. You

:20:41.:20:47.

have the usual apprehension but the atmosphere here is absolutely

:20:48.:20:50.

tremendous. That's what makes Irish Cup Finals so special. It's that

:20:51.:20:57.

glamorous Hollywood day, the end of the season, and you've got two sets

:20:58.:21:02.

of fans here. This stadium is not completed yet, but we have about

:21:03.:21:10.

4500 from Glenavon, we have about 5600-6000 from Linfield and 102010

:21:11.:21:14.

neutrals so it's packed to capacity and they are making some noise,

:21:15.:21:19.

particularly the Linfield fans who haven't won this for four years

:21:20.:21:26.

sothey are desperate to win a major trophy -- 1000 neutrals. Sa little

:21:27.:21:32.

lump in the throat? No, I'll be selfish in saying I'm sad but I've

:21:33.:21:36.

enjoyed every minute of it. This is my 29th final and I just love the

:21:37.:21:40.

adrenaline rush I get at all of these. That's something which I'll

:21:41.:21:49.

miss. Who knows, if you can buy me a little lemonade or something, it may

:21:50.:21:54.

calm me down? ! Nothing short of pleasure to do that. Jackie will be

:21:55.:22:03.

calling the match for us. His final Irish cup commentary, can you

:22:04.:22:06.

believe it, it has to be a good one for him, Chris? It will be. He'll

:22:07.:22:15.

not suffer too many nerves. He's covered 29 of the matches. For you

:22:16.:22:21.

today, we are getting close to prediction time, the winning and

:22:22.:22:25.

losing of it, both teams have set up like they are going to go for it?

:22:26.:22:28.

They both play attacking style of football. There are goals in both

:22:29.:22:33.

teams. I look at Glenavon and feel there are players that if they grab

:22:34.:22:39.

the game by the scruff, Bradley for example, he can be unmaybe and

:22:40.:22:44.

Braniff can be unmaybe on his day as well as in the semi-final. I have a

:22:45.:22:49.

notion for Glenavon, I had it from the start, I could be proven badly

:22:50.:22:56.

wrong but I'll stick my neck out and predict Glenavon. Stephen? It's very

:22:57.:23:03.

hard to call this one. The teams are evenly matched. The big winner

:23:04.:23:13.

players might be in the Glenavon set-up but Linfield have it too.

:23:14.:23:22.

Here are your match commentary team. Thank you very much indeed. There is

:23:23.:23:25.

the prize, the Irish cup. The players are just about to emerge. As

:23:26.:23:33.

I said, just a minute ago, the Tenants Irish Cup final, it's the

:23:34.:23:36.

glamorous finale for the local season. Special day for the players

:23:37.:23:41.

and the fans. Four matches could get you into a final. It takes

:23:42.:23:46.

consistency to win the league Championship, the one they all want,

:23:47.:23:50.

particularly the Linfield fans, but they'll be looking for this Irish

:23:51.:23:54.

cup. They haven't won the league or the cup since David Jeffrey, the man

:23:55.:23:59.

beside me, his team did a double four years ago in 2012.

:24:00.:24:04.

Wonderful atmosphere, as you would imagine. There are some 4500-5000 up

:24:05.:24:18.

from Glenavon as well. There's Andy Waterworth getting final

:24:19.:24:23.

instructions, the Linfield skipper, his 50th game. That lady there is

:24:24.:24:36.

the wife, the widow of Mark. Her husband led Glenavon out two years

:24:37.:24:41.

ago when they won the trophy when they beat Ballymena United.

:24:42.:24:47.

Todaytering Rhyl Louise has the honour after Mark sadly passed away

:24:48.:24:54.

in February after a long illness. A nice touch by Glenavon and a humane

:24:55.:24:57.

moment in football that rarely gets a mention. Amongst the mascots, by

:24:58.:25:05.

the way, their hugely enjoy this. Two of them for Glenavon, Callum and

:25:06.:25:19.

Cory, the sons of glarry Hamilton. -- Gary Hamilton. Nice little shake

:25:20.:25:26.

of the hands there withtering Rhyl Louise. -- with Terri Louise. David

:25:27.:25:37.

Healy seemed a little nervous earlier. Very understandable. Unless

:25:38.:25:41.

you have been a manager, you will never really be able to empathise or

:25:42.:25:44.

appreciate just what is going through your mind. It's not just

:25:45.:25:49.

about your team selection, but also about the awful thing of having to

:25:50.:25:52.

lead players out and having to communicate with them on the day by

:25:53.:25:55.

having to still focus on the players. You have all sorts of

:25:56.:26:01.

emotions all over the place. We are getting ready for the 136th Irish

:26:02.:26:07.

Cup Final. It's back at Windsor Park. It's town against country,

:26:08.:26:12.

same as last season, when the City won.

:26:13.:26:18.

A bit of controversial in the last game. The decision to give the goal.

:26:19.:26:24.

That's all water under the bridge now. There's a bit of a breeze today

:26:25.:26:31.

as well. Not too much down on pitch side.

:26:32.:26:36.

You will see the Number 10 there, remembering Mark Farron, that was

:26:37.:26:46.

his number at the club. That's kierin Martyn, the skipper.

:26:47.:26:54.

Jim Shaw, the chairman of the Irish cup. That's the gentleman from

:26:55.:27:00.

Tenants. ?20,000 for the winners today,

:27:01.:27:12.

?15,000 for the runnersup. The referee, Raymond Hetherington making

:27:13.:27:15.

the introductions. He's doing his first Irish Cup Final. He looks

:27:16.:27:18.

content enough. He does indeed. I really do hope we are not talking

:27:19.:27:34.

about refereeing decisions. Take yourselves back to this time last

:27:35.:27:39.

year, there was controversy over refereeing decisions and officials'

:27:40.:27:41.

decisions. Let's hope today that all we are talking about is the

:27:42.:27:44.

football, is the occasion and is the game. Absolutely. David Healy, what

:27:45.:27:53.

an international career! 95 caps, record 36 goals. Different now. He's

:27:54.:27:57.

got to deliver trophies for Linfield. There is a disappointment

:27:58.:28:06.

of losing the County Antrim shield to Ballymena earlier on, but let's

:28:07.:28:08.

pause for the anthem. NATIONAL ANTHEM

:28:09.:28:11.

PLAYS Down the line of both teams there, a

:28:12.:28:53.

lot of nerves and pressure, David. A massive amount of pressure and

:28:54.:28:57.

nerves. Interesting that Glenn said it's about who can settle quickest,

:28:58.:29:03.

who can settle the earliest. Remember, way back in 1993 when we

:29:04.:29:09.

had that trilogy of couch finals -- Cup Finals. I was an experienced

:29:10.:29:14.

player at that stage in my career, but I remember being absolutely

:29:15.:29:18.

frozen with nerves the first 15 minutes of the game, it was only

:29:19.:29:22.

when I got my first touch that I got into the game. You want to try and

:29:23.:29:25.

settle early, but you need that first touch.

:29:26.:29:31.

I commentated that trilogy and I remember it for different reasons,

:29:32.:29:38.

it was quite tedious. Let's look at the teams. Glenavon will be for 42.

:29:39.:29:51.

Very capable of causing Linfield problems, look out for probing of

:29:52.:30:00.

the winners. Kris Lindsay has been left out of the starting line-up.

:30:01.:30:06.

Conor Dillon and Simon Kelly will start in centre defence, and John

:30:07.:30:11.

Toffee, probably the best goalkeeper this season. After just six games,

:30:12.:30:17.

21-year-old Gareth Deane is in goal. Stephen Lowry, semifinal hero with a

:30:18.:30:31.

hat-trick. Top scorer Andy Waterworth upfront, with Paul Smyth

:30:32.:30:44.

also in a 4-4- two formation. There is Kevin Braniff. He's just signed a

:30:45.:30:50.

one-year contract this week. We got all four goals in Glenavon's win

:30:51.:30:55.

over Crusaders. There is Andy Waterworth on his 50th game this

:30:56.:31:02.

season. 32 goals. Cairan Martyn, dirty six-year old, there is a

:31:03.:31:13.

younger man, Gareth Deane, who has played six first-team games and he's

:31:14.:31:19.

kept six clean sheets, and that is Aaron Burns, the hero of their

:31:20.:31:25.

semifinal with a 3-0 win over Lurgan Celtic. We are just about ready.

:31:26.:31:35.

Linfield are 5-6 favourites and Glenavon, you can get a tasty 3-1. I

:31:36.:31:42.

think that is a good price for a Glenavon, who have a real price. I'm

:31:43.:31:47.

not a betting man, I don't understand old spot for me it's too

:31:48.:31:53.

close call. I watched Glenavon in the semifinal against Crusaders,

:31:54.:31:59.

they were massively impressive. Linfield have been on a great run of

:32:00.:32:05.

form, first Crusaders the whole way, and I think this will be a cracking

:32:06.:32:10.

game, fantastic match and for me, too close to call. The two front

:32:11.:32:18.

men, Braniff faced by Eoin Bradley, and Owen's brother Paddy Bradley and

:32:19.:32:25.

all the boys are down to watch him in action today and I hope they will

:32:26.:32:32.

enjoy today. I promised I would mention Paddy Bradley, who is an

:32:33.:32:38.

all-star county player from Derry. There is the manager with the beard,

:32:39.:32:44.

Paul Millar beside him. Gary Hamilton, what a job he has done.

:32:45.:32:50.

The nominal job. A lot of people queried the decision when he became

:32:51.:32:54.

manager but he has proved to be no fool.

:32:55.:33:06.

Andy Hall, young man who was playing in a County Championship play-off

:33:07.:33:18.

last year, such is Irish football. We heard this week with Leicester,

:33:19.:33:25.

it is about recruitment and players from the lower reaches who come up,

:33:26.:33:30.

and certainly Gary had the talent eyes on and Andrew has come in and

:33:31.:33:36.

done well. I have been impressed with Hall, and Joel Cooper, two

:33:37.:33:42.

lively winners. Glenavon trying to push forward. That might have been a

:33:43.:33:51.

bit of pushing from Eoin Bradley. We had a taster here between Jimmy

:33:52.:33:58.

Callacher and Eoin Bradley. Different challenges for both

:33:59.:34:02.

centre-backs. You have the physicality of Bradley, the

:34:03.:34:08.

cleverness of run-off, so a battle there. -- Braniff. I think Stephen

:34:09.:34:21.

Lowry has the free kick. He has a lot to live up to, Stephen Lowry.

:34:22.:34:27.

His brother Philip played here and won three out of three Irish Cup

:34:28.:34:35.

finals, scored in one of them. Conor Dillon and Simon Kelly will have the

:34:36.:34:40.

pace of Paul Smyth and Andrew Waterworth to deal with.

:34:41.:34:47.

That's a good ball in from Ross Gaynor. Good delivery, which he is a

:34:48.:34:56.

very feeble. The man who won an FAI cup final with Sligo. Kilmartin,

:34:57.:35:09.

very cool. He has given it away. Larry tried to do left, it didn't

:35:10.:35:16.

work out. Bradley didn't know it but it was onside. Very much so. He

:35:17.:35:22.

should have played to the whistle or to the linesman putting that flag

:35:23.:35:28.

up. You're always taught as a schoolboy, played to the whistle.

:35:29.:35:34.

Sean Ward is the oldest Linfield player at 32. He would thank me for

:35:35.:35:41.

saying that, but he is a Rolls-Royce of a player, he can play anywhere.

:35:42.:35:49.

You might agree. I was delighted as Linfield manager to bring him from

:35:50.:35:52.

Glentoran and he served both clubs with distinction. There is a great

:35:53.:36:01.

atmosphere, both sets of fans are really up for this, both are

:36:02.:36:05.

desperate to end the season with a bit of silver work. Linfield fans

:36:06.:36:10.

demand silverware. This is good for the Blues. Just looking back to the

:36:11.:36:18.

semifinal, Glenavon worth three times behind and came back each

:36:19.:36:25.

time. As the keeper took that, it almost worked out but not quite.

:36:26.:36:33.

There is Andy Hall, now over this side. Paul has won back by Linfield,

:36:34.:36:48.

driven in an super hands by John Tuffey, who has proved to be an

:36:49.:36:51.

outstanding goalkeeper in the league this year. He is also the Glenavon

:36:52.:36:59.

Player of the Year. It was a real chance for Andy Waterworth and he

:37:00.:37:03.

couldn't take it. He is usually lethal in those situations. Not that

:37:04.:37:14.

time. Good pressure from Linfield. Mulgrew pushed it wide. Couldn't get

:37:15.:37:25.

the cross over. Andy Waterworth will look back on that and see it as a

:37:26.:37:31.

real chance. We'll get to see that in a moment or two, as Linfield take

:37:32.:37:36.

this throw in. It's been a lively five minutes. Yes, Linfield have

:37:37.:37:44.

started brightly, without doubt in the ascendancy. And if we do get to

:37:45.:37:50.

see that, we will find it was not so much paper mess but some great

:37:51.:37:58.

defending. Andrew gets in front but that's a superb block there. He

:37:59.:38:01.

didn't get any van among behind the finish. He will shrug that off --

:38:02.:38:12.

venom. 32 goals in 49 games, a good ratio. Kelly could be in for a busy

:38:13.:38:21.

afternoon in defence, and maybe I'm always optimistic as a commentator,

:38:22.:38:24.

hoping we will get goals, but I think we will, maybe 3-2 today. I

:38:25.:38:33.

talked about players having nervous and how I found it difficult, there

:38:34.:38:38.

doesn't appear to be any nerves, they seem to have dissipated

:38:39.:38:43.

altogether. Linfield are having a good period. Lovely skill there.

:38:44.:38:53.

Andy Waterworth couldn't get in front of his marker. Now the brake

:38:54.:38:57.

on here. This is good interchanging. Here

:38:58.:39:14.

comes Mulgrew, the angle is against him, he tried it, not successfully.

:39:15.:39:23.

Super passage of play, Aaron Burns, Paul Smyth, Mulgrew taking it on and

:39:24.:39:30.

the shock was blocked. Linfield are going for the jugular from the. Very

:39:31.:39:37.

controlled, good movement, they are very much playing well at the

:39:38.:39:44.

moment. Mark Patton with a little beard and he's usually a left

:39:45.:39:48.

winger, but he's at left-back so maybe Linfield will try and see if

:39:49.:39:56.

he has any weaknesses as a defender. And Aaron Burns playing wide right,

:39:57.:40:02.

so uninteresting challenge. Duels all over the place. Now, here comes

:40:03.:40:10.

Aaron Burns, but it wasn't a good ball.

:40:11.:40:18.

Braniff, holding off his marker, he has done it so well over the years,

:40:19.:40:24.

that's not like him. Gallaher misjudged that one, Jorge

:40:25.:40:41.

didn't. -- hockey. Waterworth lurking in that forward area.

:40:42.:40:54.

Linfield seem to get into a rhythm, whereas Glenavon have not, and there

:40:55.:41:03.

we are, a round of applause, slightly early, for Mark Farren.

:41:04.:41:09.

That was his number, number ten, four Glenavon. A man sadly missed as

:41:10.:41:17.

a player and as a person. He was a top man. This is what makes you feel

:41:18.:41:25.

really, really proud to be involved with Irish League ball. Listen to

:41:26.:41:31.

both sets of supporters paying tribute to a wonderful a wonderful,

:41:32.:41:39.

brave man. You think of how his family have continued but my

:41:40.:41:44.

goodness, and such and Asian, to have both sets of supporters paying

:41:45.:41:50.

such a wholesome tribute, it would bring tears. And what a nice touch

:41:51.:41:58.

for Glenavon, to have Kerry Louise, his widow, leading the team on.

:41:59.:42:05.

Cooper just gave himself too much to do. It was a good challenge, let's

:42:06.:42:15.

see this. It was Sean Ward and he seemed to push water out of the way

:42:16.:42:17.

and there is the block. You picked him out earlier on. I

:42:18.:42:29.

watched Joel earlier in the season down at Warren point where he scored

:42:30.:42:32.

two or three goals and he was superb. Linfield not making any

:42:33.:42:42.

headway that time. I think there was a bit of filling there, and I think

:42:43.:42:46.

Markoff he is getting fed up with the intention -- Mark hockey. The

:42:47.:42:55.

illegal attention from Bradley. This is old-fashioned play, get out of my

:42:56.:43:02.

way. Six of one half a dozen of the other. Bradley was making his

:43:03.:43:08.

presence felt but Mark also had the whole of his jersey, and maybe

:43:09.:43:14.

fortunate to get the decision. That is part of the ploy, upset the big

:43:15.:43:19.

centre-half, get him booked. Very cool. Cooper was unlucky. He was

:43:20.:43:28.

there to do a job in the first place. Isn't it great, the

:43:29.:43:33.

intensity, battles all over the place. That's a good ball in, off

:43:34.:43:44.

the line. Laurie got the final touch. Brilliant reflexes. It all

:43:45.:43:52.

happened out of nothing. In by Ward, there was Stephen Larry and he

:43:53.:43:57.

thought he was on the scoresheet like his brother Philip a fuel years

:43:58.:44:05.

ago, but Tuffey was there. A great ball in by Sean Ward. Grid connect

:44:06.:44:11.

by Stephen Larry but what a save from Jonathan Tuffey. If he hadn't

:44:12.:44:18.

been as sharp, Linfield were one up, without doubt. Glenavon have to try,

:44:19.:44:28.

apart from resolving the pressure, they have to get forward. They do

:44:29.:44:34.

but what Linfield are doing well, good ball in from Sean Ward, and

:44:35.:44:40.

look at that saved from two, and then the ball is cleared by Rhys

:44:41.:44:46.

Marshall. Give credit to Simon Kelly, who was there to put him off.

:44:47.:44:56.

That didn't work, it was to type. The break could be on here. To go

:44:57.:45:07.

back to your point about what Glenavon need to do, they need to

:45:08.:45:11.

come league with Linfield, who were squeezing the ball quickly and

:45:12.:45:17.

early. The modern turn is pressing the ball as a group and Glenavon

:45:18.:45:22.

simply cannot get out. A dangerous ball across Cooper. In bypassing,

:45:23.:45:37.

Linfield deal with it, and Andy Kilmartin all the way back.

:45:38.:45:44.

David Cole sent Johnny Tuffey, I have always known him as Jonathan.

:45:45.:45:57.

David is a friend of his. A dear close friend of mine but also when I

:45:58.:46:03.

was manager I signed him and I think he is a tremendous goalkeeper, and I

:46:04.:46:08.

love to see people I work with you well, and I call him Jonathan

:46:09.:46:13.

because his mum would shout at me if I didn't. Here we go. Well done,

:46:14.:46:23.

referee, he says there was a bit of filling. Glenavon get the free kick.

:46:24.:46:31.

Now just watch him here, he doesn't frighten and he's giving as good as

:46:32.:46:37.

he gets. He may be small in stature but he is a mighty young man. I

:46:38.:46:43.

watched them here against Crusaders. I believe there might be a few

:46:44.:46:48.

scouts today looking at that young man.

:46:49.:46:55.

Cooper, very tricky, a great ball in and it was so close to nestling in

:46:56.:47:04.

the postage stamp. That expression sums up, he thought that might have

:47:05.:47:09.

curled in and it almost did. Great trickery from Joel. David Healy will

:47:10.:47:16.

want Sean Ward to get to him much closer, much earlier and not to give

:47:17.:47:21.

him that space. He thought it would go on the left-hand side, came in on

:47:22.:47:26.

his right and a great effort for Joel. Looking at Cooper and Hall,

:47:27.:47:35.

they are winners and both have six yellow cards this season. Winners

:47:36.:47:42.

are not usually aggressive. Back in your day you used to early winners.

:47:43.:47:51.

A bit of a miscued there, you could excuse if he has a few nerves, it is

:47:52.:47:57.

a cup final on his seventh game this season for young Deane. They had the

:47:58.:48:03.

sprinklers on and it is uneven in areas. I hate to be critical but I

:48:04.:48:13.

have seen the pitch better. A long throw, Linfield almost deal with it.

:48:14.:48:19.

The keeper has dropped it. They scramble here. It's in! The whistle

:48:20.:48:27.

has gone. Eoin Bradley cannot believe it. The goalkeeper had it

:48:28.:48:32.

and then he lost it, and I think they were maybe ticking when the

:48:33.:48:37.

goalkeeper was trying to hold onto it. Let's see. Pick the bones out of

:48:38.:48:45.

this one. Gareth doesn't get hold of it, you can see Bradley trying to

:48:46.:48:54.

dig it out. Is there much wrong with that. Let's see. It's not in his

:48:55.:49:06.

hands. That's big Cairan Martyn, it's up against Eoin Bradley. I'd

:49:07.:49:13.

think that is a good spot by Raymond. He's not happy, itsy? From

:49:14.:49:22.

his ankle, I can understand it. We have the luxury of seeing it back

:49:23.:49:26.

and seeing the ferocity of the tackle. It mightn't have been given

:49:27.:49:33.

in any other part of the pitch. But there is young Gareth. Here we see

:49:34.:49:40.

it again. He doesn't get a hold of it. It is that challenge. Yet, it

:49:41.:49:57.

was Cairan Martyn without question. A let off for that young 21-year-old

:49:58.:50:06.

from Lisburn. After all of Linfield's dominance in the first 15

:50:07.:50:11.

minutes, Glenavon were not at the races, then the first chance they

:50:12.:50:22.

get, they nearly score. Just 18 minutes gone and it is lively stuff.

:50:23.:50:32.

Still no goals in this cup final. You made a good point about the

:50:33.:50:36.

goalkeeper, six games but six clean sheets. He had that mis-kick, that

:50:37.:50:43.

little altercation. Keeper comes, it gets a good punch, that will help

:50:44.:50:52.

him. Big style anti-needed that. What a lovely touch from Braniff,

:50:53.:51:00.

silky skills from the 33-year-old. That's the commentator's curse, when

:51:01.:51:05.

you praised them they make a mistake. Always, but I will try to

:51:06.:51:13.

help you out, I watched him in the semifinal against Crusaders and on

:51:14.:51:17.

that night the Navan were superb but he was imperious. The quality of his

:51:18.:51:24.

goals, the standard of his play was outstanding, so you were right to

:51:25.:51:28.

think that his effort would have been better. Thank you, David.

:51:29.:51:36.

Ballymena United manager who also doubles as my agent! Coming up to 20

:51:37.:51:42.

minutes, we still await the first goal. I have a feeling it may not be

:51:43.:51:50.

far away. How's that for optimism? Cairan Martyn did well, so too did

:51:51.:51:57.

Bradley but not all. A poor touch for the young man. Rhys Marshall

:51:58.:52:04.

goes back, he didn't get to it a bit lackadaisical by young Marshall. You

:52:05.:52:12.

also got to give credit to Andrew Waterworth, who put him under

:52:13.:52:20.

pressure. It's like every final, especially a final where it is a

:52:21.:52:24.

one-off. You get a goal, the game has to open up. And look what we

:52:25.:52:32.

have now, Linfield dominant, biting at the heels of every Glenavon

:52:33.:52:36.

player who was on the ball. Tuffey has to make ace superb save, then we

:52:37.:52:43.

do at the other end, Glenavon turn the game on its head and, we had

:52:44.:52:50.

that little melee and now we see Glenavon... Braniff taking a rest,

:52:51.:52:58.

leaning against the post. A busy goalmouth as this goal comes in.

:52:59.:53:05.

That will be disappointing. Joel Cooper will have wanted to do better

:53:06.:53:10.

and that is the chance you want to put him under pressure, to put the

:53:11.:53:15.

ball into the box and there is nothing as integer eating as when

:53:16.:53:21.

you do not beat the first man. As a manager it would drive you crazy.

:53:22.:53:25.

You are screaming, get the ball over. Glenavon, inside the Linfield

:53:26.:53:34.

half. Young Smyth, bounced away from him.

:53:35.:53:48.

Good ball in, that's a very good ball in, now it dropped to Hall. I

:53:49.:53:58.

would have expected better from Andy Hall, who can really hit a ball. He

:53:59.:54:03.

has five goals this season, one in that cup, and look at this. The

:54:04.:54:08.

technique wasn't there on that occasion. We didn't see it that

:54:09.:54:14.

there was a great piece of clever plates bike Kevin Braniff, where he

:54:15.:54:18.

came into a little pocket and set that opportunity up.

:54:19.:54:29.

Well won by the central defender. Good chasing thereby Paul Smyth.

:54:30.:54:44.

Sadly he gives away the throw in. But he is a handful. David Healy

:54:45.:54:51.

told me at the start of the season about this boy and he has kept faith

:54:52.:54:55.

with him. I don't think it is overstating the fact that Paul

:54:56.:55:00.

Smyth's influence at Linfield has been quite dramatic. His

:55:01.:55:05.

introduction was maybe unexpected but the quality of his play and what

:55:06.:55:09.

he has given his team-mates must be praised and were nice. -- and

:55:10.:55:18.

recognised. David Healy will be satisfied, they looked dangerous but

:55:19.:55:23.

they could have been one behind but that goal was robbed out. He will be

:55:24.:55:31.

happy with the first 15 minutes but when you're in the vicinity, you

:55:32.:55:34.

want to profit and what goes through your head is the doubt, I wish we

:55:35.:55:41.

had got a goal, because you know the opposition will come back into it.

:55:42.:55:50.

That ounces away for the Gold Tech. I thought it was amazing that these

:55:51.:55:55.

sides have only previously met three times in the final. Glenavon one to

:55:56.:56:02.

of those and Linfield won the other, but this is the first to be played

:56:03.:56:07.

at Windsor Park. The last one, ironically, this is my last

:56:08.:56:12.

commentary, it's Glenavon against Linfield. My first commentary for

:56:13.:56:20.

the BBC in 1992, Irish Cup Final, Glenavon two, Linfield one, is that

:56:21.:56:27.

an omen for today? Jamie Mulgrew was halted there. I remember that final

:56:28.:56:35.

very well because I was left out of the team and that's why I was

:56:36.:56:38.

talking earlier about both managers and eight top part of the day when

:56:39.:56:43.

you work telling a player you have made the decision, they are not

:56:44.:56:48.

involved, and you try to commiserate, sympathise, comfort,

:56:49.:56:54.

but... It doesn't mean anything to the player. Not a thing. Here we go.

:56:55.:57:09.

but... It doesn't mean anything to Linfield get it back in again. Did

:57:10.:57:14.

Linfield goalkeeper, what a throw that was. Here is Cooper.

:57:15.:57:25.

It's the wonderful Jamie Mulgrew who was doing the covering. In his

:57:26.:57:38.

testimonial year, let's see, 432nd game for Linfield, scored 40 goals

:57:39.:57:45.

over those ten or 11 years. There is Two, it was a great catch, he

:57:46.:57:53.

covered the ball very early, Jamie Mulgrew another player who when I

:57:54.:57:57.

was manager, was able to attract from Glentoran, and what a servant

:57:58.:58:04.

of the club he has been. I remember you leaving him out for a cup final

:58:05.:58:08.

and then you brought him on in the 63rd minute as a substitute and he

:58:09.:58:13.

ended up Man of the Match when you want the match. What sort of

:58:14.:58:22.

decision was that? He comped all day, I had chosen Philip Larry in

:58:23.:58:30.

front of him and when a player has a jersey you don't take it off him and

:58:31.:58:35.

Philip deserve to be in the side, but I said to Jamie to go out and

:58:36.:58:40.

prove I was wrong, and did he prove that my decision that they was

:58:41.:58:45.

possibly right. No, David, you were wrong. But that is yesteryear. Now,

:58:46.:58:57.

Linfield cannot make any progress. The throw goes to Linfield. It is

:58:58.:59:05.

lovely to see a great crop of supporters, the North stand is

:59:06.:59:08.

packed to capacity with Linfield followers. It's great having the

:59:09.:59:20.

final back here at Windsor. Into the middle, it was almost a good ball

:59:21.:59:26.

but not quite. I think that might be a free kick. Young Smyth showing his

:59:27.:59:35.

aggressive side. A little overdue brings, he claims there was a dive

:59:36.:59:38.

but I do not thing he has a case there. Just a little nudge, and I

:59:39.:59:46.

think he helped John on his way -- Joel. Not that Joe will probably

:59:47.:59:51.

needed too much encouragement but a free it was. It's nice to see a

:59:52.:59:58.

linesman make a decision. You did say you were going to be kind to the

:59:59.:00:05.

officials. I'm always kind, it is a difficult job. The flight is up,

:00:06.:00:10.

just about. That must have been close. A shake of the head from

:00:11.:00:18.

Kevin Braniff. From our angle, I think the linesman or the assistant

:00:19.:00:23.

got it right, I think Kevin knew himself, a look over his shoulder,

:00:24.:00:30.

he just went a second early and the two centre-backs stepped up.

:00:31.:00:37.

Held on. Waterworth having to come deep. Linfield haven't really

:00:38.:00:56.

threatened a Glenavon goal in recent minutes. That may change. That's a

:00:57.:01:01.

free kick. Mistimed tackle by Andy Kilmartin.

:01:02.:01:15.

Then maybe a little bit of afters. . Was it an accident? I don't want

:01:16.:01:31.

to say premeditated, but was it meant? The ref just calming things

:01:32.:01:33.

down. It's coming towards the half hour

:01:34.:01:55.

mark. 0-0. We need a goal. Linfield will feel they want a goal to get in

:01:56.:02:04.

front on their home patch. Oh, it was just too high for Andy

:02:05.:02:06.

Waterworth. This is a great ball in by Ross

:02:07.:02:16.

Gaynor. And Burns it is. Just couldn't get it off the floor. Look

:02:17.:02:22.

at this ball in. Great climb by Burns and unfortunately, just behind

:02:23.:02:29.

Waterworth. Small margins from going in front. Still 0-0.

:02:30.:02:36.

We will have extra time and penalties if tired. -- if required.

:02:37.:02:43.

Half an hour extra time. Over 11,000 people here today!

:02:44.:02:58.

11,500. Good to see. And they are making quite a din. Cooper flicks it

:02:59.:03:04.

away. Martyn didn't help it on its way. Mulgrew flicks it into the path

:03:05.:03:13.

of Ward. Ward prefers his rite foot, takes it back to his left.

:03:14.:03:18.

Smyth did very well. Marshall - he'd better not hang about. He was a

:03:19.:03:28.

little bit fortunate there because Gaynor was there.

:03:29.:03:35.

Smyth. The ball's in. And obviously again, you see the tactical ability

:03:36.:03:53.

of Smyth there. He made a point. He was busy. You made a point earlier

:03:54.:03:59.

on about Mark Patton being naturally a winger, yet playing at full back.

:04:00.:04:04.

That sometimes can be the problem. Going forward obviously Mark will

:04:05.:04:07.

have no bother but maybe the defensive side of his game will be

:04:08.:04:17.

tested. Glenavon. Braniff gets it in behind Cooper. They really are thin

:04:18.:04:22.

margins today at both ends of the pitch. We are getting close to

:04:23.:04:27.

danger but not quite getting there. Still 0-0. Over 12 minutes to half

:04:28.:04:32.

time. A very subtle change. Burns started

:04:33.:04:48.

wide right. He's naturally left-footed against Patton. Smyth

:04:49.:04:57.

has come out to this side now. A tactical switch and interesting to

:04:58.:05:02.

see. Maybe David is thinking, the pace of young Smyth against a fellow

:05:03.:05:07.

winger who's playing against a defender, can we get something out

:05:08.:05:14.

of it. Yes. I would agree with that. And you've got Linfield's two

:05:15.:05:19.

leading goal scorers, Gary Hamilton warming up. Played last week. He

:05:20.:05:29.

played in a reserve match almost. He was man-of-the-match. 35-year-old

:05:30.:05:36.

centre half. And he told everybody this week at training, whoever

:05:37.:05:41.

wanted to listen, how good he was! I've got to say, Jack, it's a - I

:05:42.:05:51.

was speaking to Gary during the week and the association of centre

:05:52.:05:55.

halves, present and past, they'll never be welcomed back in again. He

:05:56.:06:01.

said, I playeded at centre back for 17 minutes and was man-of-the-match

:06:02.:06:03.

and he said it was the easiest position on the pitch that. 'S what

:06:04.:06:08.

he said! So for all of my fellow former and present centre backs, he

:06:09.:06:17.

had a chance to get it. He's quite a man but he's been quite a player

:06:18.:06:22.

over the years, former Northern Ireland international, of course,

:06:23.:06:26.

and a great friend of David Healy's. They played in youth teams all those

:06:27.:06:32.

years ago. But they are not friendly until after this is decided.

:06:33.:06:43.

Kilmartin. 33 years of age. Quite a midfield, a 33-year-old and a

:06:44.:06:47.

36-year-old. You mentioned Kilmartin. I've watched him this

:06:48.:06:52.

year and he's never ceased to impress me. He goes about his

:06:53.:06:56.

business in a very quiet but business-like way. He's a quiet man.

:06:57.:07:03.

He rarely speaks. Here he is outside, gives it away. Mulgrew. He

:07:04.:07:11.

too gives it away. Kilmartin. Something on here for Glenavon

:07:12.:07:15.

perhaps. Martyn couldn't get through. Linfield a chance to break.

:07:16.:07:21.

Well, the challenge was late there by the winger playing full back,

:07:22.:07:37.

Mark Patton. On young Smyth. One of those tackles of a Cup Final. And

:07:38.:07:40.

thoughts of the previous run by Smyth. He wanted to make his mark on

:07:41.:07:49.

him. "Mark". All it will way across! Gaynor. Well, aer of his quality. I

:07:50.:07:56.

think a free kick was given. It was a push.

:07:57.:08:02.

Great spot by Raymond Hetherington. And it saves us from saying that a

:08:03.:08:14.

player of glace nor's quality will be disappointed, a real gentleman

:08:15.:08:20.

and a superb signing by David Healy. Nine minutes to half time and I

:08:21.:08:23.

don't want to tempt fate but the referee's done well so far, Mr

:08:24.:08:30.

Hetherington. He's been excellent thus far. Very, very measured,

:08:31.:08:36.

hasn't rushed any decision. Everything he's done has been

:08:37.:08:44.

correct. Even here. Burns flicks it on. Glenavon have it. Now, Mulgrew.

:08:45.:08:57.

The old head. Didn't work out though. Forward.

:08:58.:09:09.

Lowry being man handled by Kilmartin. He wants to take it

:09:10.:09:14.

quickly. Raymond Hetherington got that

:09:15.:09:23.

correct. There was a touch off the Glenavon

:09:24.:09:41.

man. Difficult thing when you are playing against Bradley is the

:09:42.:09:45.

unpredictability. He really is a talent. He is a physical presence as

:09:46.:09:53.

well. He's so off-the-cuff, Jack. He's hard to read and hard to play

:09:54.:09:57.

against. But he comes from a Gaelic background so he's used to the

:09:58.:10:01.

rough-and-tumble. And he can score goals as well. He's got 19 this

:10:02.:10:09.

season and three in the cup. 19 for the season despite the fact he was

:10:10.:10:12.

out for eight weeks because of suspension. Burns Bradford run to

:10:13.:10:16.

Smyth. Could be danger here. Smyth gets it across. There's the old head

:10:17.:10:21.

Martyn. They have given it away. Ward. Wrong foot for Ward. He'll not

:10:22.:10:26.

want to see that finish again! No. Skies it over. Previous to that was

:10:27.:10:41.

a fantastic run by Burns. We have talked about the little switch. He

:10:42.:10:45.

ran across, went to Paul Smyth. The gun slinger Bradley again.

:10:46.:11:17.

Referee plays on. Patton gets it forward. Down the line. Joel Cooper.

:11:18.:11:26.

He's done Ward again. I think this might be the first booking of the

:11:27.:11:33.

afternoon. And it is. It's not often you see Ward getting a, shall we

:11:34.:11:39.

say, a mild run around, but he has been taken at times by young Cooper.

:11:40.:11:45.

I did say pacy and probing, he certainly is, and that's all Sean

:11:46.:11:50.

Ward could do. Got that right on the money. Young Joel really is a

:11:51.:11:56.

talent. Very, very quick. Technically very, very good. Shone

:11:57.:12:02.

as an excellent defender, no doubt. On that occasion, Joel used his pace

:12:03.:12:07.

and trickery and Sean, I've got to say, the referee had no choice but

:12:08.:12:11.

to book him and now Glenavon have got themselves in a great position.

:12:12.:12:16.

Five minutes to half time. Great chance for a breakthrough.

:12:17.:12:26.

Keeper came and that'll do his confidence the world of good. Wasn't

:12:27.:12:32.

a bad ball in, but he held it. Decent ball in, Jack, but I've got

:12:33.:12:42.

to say, that showed bravery. We talked about nerves earlier on in

:12:43.:12:47.

the game but to come out of the commander's box, well done. Yes,

:12:48.:12:52.

he'll be trying to keep another clean sheet. Great ball from

:12:53.:12:56.

Braniff. Paul hit it too far for Bradley. Or has he? He did. They

:12:57.:13:02.

were unlucky. Bradley puts his hands on his head. He knows it was a good

:13:03.:13:06.

chance. Now, the danger may not be over.

:13:07.:13:20.

Kelly. Liam Donaldson. Haughey. -- Dillon. Haughey. Andrew is moving

:13:21.:13:42.

back again. So much to keep up with. I'm glad you know something about

:13:43.:13:45.

this game, Jack! Very little.

:13:46.:13:51.

Quite happy Simon Kelly to put it out of play.

:13:52.:13:58.

It's a corner to Linfield. The noise comes up from the Linfield fans in

:13:59.:14:07.

the North Stand. Three minutes to the break. What a time this would be

:14:08.:14:20.

to go in front in a Cup Final. Burns awaits.

:14:21.:14:28.

Some idiot's thought it wise to throw some sort of a bottle, plastic

:14:29.:14:35.

bottle, on to the pitch. Such a good day. I wish people like that would

:14:36.:14:42.

stay away from our game. Indeed. In comes the corner. Too high for

:14:43.:14:48.

Callacher. Referee decides it didn't get a touch off anybody. Goal kick.

:14:49.:14:54.

They would have been worried about conceding a few minutes before the

:14:55.:15:00.

break. And remember, in one of the finals under manager Peter Thompson,

:15:01.:15:02.

just scoring prior to half time. Just scoring before half time, that

:15:03.:15:15.

gave us such a lift going in that. 'S why Glenavon didn't want to

:15:16.:15:19.

concede. Referee said the ball was moving.

:15:20.:15:48.

Wants it back. David Lowry ready to get a space through this time. The

:15:49.:15:57.

referee will be happy. Mark Haughey joins the attack. Callacher also

:15:58.:16:04.

comes out. Clarke over the ball. It would be a perfect time to two in

:16:05.:16:09.

front. Just too high for the men in blue.

:16:10.:16:21.

Here is Andy Waterworth! What a great tackle that was.

:16:22.:16:32.

That was a goal-saving tackle. It was Dillon who got across there.

:16:33.:16:41.

Dillon, tremendous, tremendous defending. Centre back pal, Simon

:16:42.:16:49.

Kelly, will be delighted with that. In comes a corner. Glenavon deal

:16:50.:16:54.

with it. Shouldn't be too much time to add on. Glenavon look to break.

:16:55.:17:04.

It will fall for a Glenavon man? Falls for Haughey. Bradley's in.

:17:05.:17:14.

What a finish! Kevin Braniff, four goals in the semi-final and now he's

:17:15.:17:19.

got one in the final. What a time to get it. In injury time almost at the

:17:20.:17:25.

end of this first half, and he has done it. Absolute delight. You don't

:17:26.:17:31.

see any smiles there at the moment. But what a goal that was out of

:17:32.:17:37.

nothing. Great cross in, good ball by Haughey. Bradley outside of the

:17:38.:17:45.

foot. Braniff, what a finish! Absolutely outstanding, Jack.

:17:46.:17:50.

Linfield were in the ascendancy. We talked about Glenavon. They go

:17:51.:17:56.

forward. Watch this from a ball from Bradley. Was there maybe a little

:17:57.:18:03.

push? Not so sure. There he was, the master finisher, the talisman, what

:18:04.:18:14.

an absolute goal by Kevin Braniff right at the death. We were thinking

:18:15.:18:18.

pressure at the other end as Linfield were looking to get a goal

:18:19.:18:23.

at the end of this first half. Then we go to the other side of the pitch

:18:24.:18:29.

and that man there, Kevin Braniff, has put Glenavon up 1-0 at half

:18:30.:18:34.

time. The players just making their way

:18:35.:18:41.

off the pitch behind me. Certainly the Glenavon fans who enjoyed the

:18:42.:18:45.

first 45 minutes, Millar, what a time to score? Good time to score,

:18:46.:18:51.

that's the way we play. The boys never give up, they don't take it

:18:52.:18:55.

easy, keep going well. Linfield started well. Great save made and

:18:56.:19:02.

it's been quite 50/50 but, as the game's gone on, we were getting

:19:03.:19:06.

stronger. What was your take on the disallowed goal? It just looked like

:19:07.:19:12.

a goal you see every week, you know, he'll either give it one way or the

:19:13.:19:15.

other, I don't know what it looked like on the TV, but to me it looked

:19:16.:19:20.

like a melee. What will be said in that dressing room at half time?

:19:21.:19:23.

Obviously we'll be delighted coming in 1-0 up. We wanted to weather the

:19:24.:19:29.

storm earlier on. I'm telling the boys to get on. Playing down the

:19:30.:19:34.

channels they have looked vulnerable and the keeper's looked dodgy a

:19:35.:19:37.

couple of times and we are trying to test him. How important will the

:19:38.:19:43.

benches be? If it finishes 1-0, it won't be important. We have a decent

:19:44.:19:49.

bench with Chris Lindsay and Gary obviously. It's a strong bench. I

:19:50.:19:55.

don't know what to say, we are just happy enough now. Compose yourself

:19:56.:19:59.

and say the important things inside the dressing room. Thank you very

:20:00.:20:05.

much for speaking to us. One goal and it's for Glenavon.

:20:06.:20:09.

Millar's run out of puff but Braniff hasn't. We have a Cup Final on our

:20:10.:20:17.

hands! We waited 45 minutes. Bradley's brilliance, then Braniff

:20:18.:20:23.

at the back post, they lead 1-0, Glenavon, in this, the 136th Irish

:20:24.:20:27.

Cup Final. Gents, we had to wait 45 minutes.

:20:28.:20:31.

Arguably it did come against the run of play, but when it came, what a

:20:32.:20:38.

goal? Not sure if it was against the run of play. Linfield started

:20:39.:20:42.

strong, Glenavon worked their way into it and had a period of

:20:43.:20:47.

ascendancy, probably lasted fennel or 15, it tapered off a bit -- ten

:20:48.:20:53.

or 15. The counterattack from the corner developed really well and a

:20:54.:20:59.

great pass from B Bradley on that right hand side. He had the vision

:21:00.:21:04.

and technical ability to clip it across outside of the foot. You

:21:05.:21:07.

would fancy Braniff in that situation and he put it away. He's

:21:08.:21:12.

someone that you know all too well all about four goals against you in

:21:13.:21:16.

the semi-final and Braniff again, the man who makes the difference

:21:17.:21:20.

this afternoon in the first 45. Take a look at it. Yes, he's been superb.

:21:21.:21:28.

This is 100 metres in the air. He knew the defender was coming on his

:21:29.:21:32.

blind side and spun him in one moment. Perfect how he controlled

:21:33.:21:38.

the ball. He holds it up. He's on the spot, five, six yards of space,

:21:39.:21:43.

and he's been like that all day. A defensive mistake for the goal

:21:44.:21:48.

arguably? Yes, but look at Braniff from deep position, calls for the

:21:49.:21:52.

ball. Finds his space. He's 33 years old. He hasn't got the sprinty legs

:21:53.:21:56.

any more, he's got the brain that finds his way into good positions.

:21:57.:22:02.

Credit to Bradley, what a ball? ! Awesome ball. That's a skill in

:22:03.:22:07.

itself. Outside of the left foot, spinning in the right direction and

:22:08.:22:11.

of course, look at this finish here. That's quality. He doesn't miss from

:22:12.:22:16.

those distances. Brilliant player. Look who is sorry and put pressure

:22:17.:22:20.

here. Mark Patton left back. Counterattack. The mistake yes, Sean

:22:21.:22:28.

Ward, he's cleared it anywhere unfortunately for him he's picked

:22:29.:22:41.

out Andy. He said that's how we play, attacking into the box. Yes,

:22:42.:22:47.

he picked out Andy Hall. The opening 15 minutes were all Linfield and the

:22:48.:22:51.

commentator said they might rue the missed chances? They do have chances

:22:52.:22:57.

early on. This is the first one? This is first opportunity, it's all

:22:58.:23:01.

earlier on, the seventh minute. I think it's possibly going wide. We

:23:02.:23:06.

talked about the pitch being lively and that can help. I think it

:23:07.:23:14.

arrives obvious top of Waterworth. Did well with the block. Gets the

:23:15.:23:18.

cross and blocks it. Brilliant save. Turning point possibly of the game.

:23:19.:23:25.

Gets a toe on it. Great reaction save. Keeps it level. Everyone says

:23:26.:23:34.

how that can affect the game. It's one of those ones, on another day,

:23:35.:23:40.

Waterworth, you can see he's got a yard on Marshall. If he arrives a

:23:41.:23:45.

second later, it's going in the back of the net. Linfield don't take any

:23:46.:23:51.

chances. So important to get the goal on the ascendancy. They are not

:23:52.:23:57.

out and out chances, you know. I think Glenavon will be happy with

:23:58.:24:00.

that. Keeping Linfield at a distance. The half chances are not

:24:01.:24:05.

even half chances, I don't think they've pressurised the game in the

:24:06.:24:10.

right area, Linfield, to put Glenavon under more pressure. Where

:24:11.:24:15.

should they be pressurising, what are you saying they should be doing

:24:16.:24:18.

differently? They are a yard late into the box, and that's just in

:24:19.:24:22.

your brain. We saw earlier on, the ball came in and Ross Gaynor should

:24:23.:24:26.

have been attacking the game, they got down the side clipped a nice

:24:27.:24:30.

ball in and Gaynor has stayed out on the edge, instead of being on the

:24:31.:24:34.

six yard line to head in. It's taking that extra, a bit like what

:24:35.:24:39.

we talked about with Glenavon hunting the game, their left back

:24:40.:24:43.

being in the six yard line. Linfield aren't doing that. We picked out

:24:44.:24:48.

Joel Cooper as one to watch. Let's take a look. Cross or shot? First of

:24:49.:24:56.

all, it's controlled magnificent. Sets his man up, cuts inside. On

:24:57.:25:02.

another day, that's in the top corner and it's a wonderful goal.

:25:03.:25:06.

Only he will know if he was trying to guide it into the top corner. I

:25:07.:25:12.

think he is crossing it. It turned that wave that Linfield had at the

:25:13.:25:16.

start. That got the crowd on side again. From there, they picked their

:25:17.:25:22.

game up and had a little ten or 15 moments and that was one of those

:25:23.:25:30.

moments that got Glenavon going. We talked about that with Thomas and

:25:31.:25:34.

they said it happens every day but I think the ref got this spot on? I

:25:35.:25:38.

can understand where Paul is coming from, from the distance he was at,

:25:39.:25:42.

probably looks like two or three players going in for the challenge.

:25:43.:25:49.

We look at that again. Ciaran Martyn catches Callacher. Credit to the

:25:50.:25:53.

referee, we didn't want to be looking at referee mistakes, he gets

:25:54.:26:01.

it 100% bang on there. We saw Ciaran coming on, saying it's a foul all

:26:02.:26:05.

day, over the player's legs, then the ball breaks, the foul committed

:26:06.:26:11.

by Martyn I felt? Yes. If the ball had become available and Martyn

:26:12.:26:14.

dived in and put it into the net, have you had said fair enough goal

:26:15.:26:18.

but he catches Callacher, the ball doesn't move.

:26:19.:26:54.

he just went a second early and the two centre-backs stepped up.

:26:55.:26:58.

Linfield will have to go into their dressing room and work out what

:26:59.:27:04.

their plan is. I would like to see them pressed the game. You will both

:27:05.:27:11.

enjoy this. Today's Irish Cup Final is a landmark moment for our Jacqui,

:27:12.:27:19.

and today brings him. Call. -- fail circle.

:27:20.:27:28.

AM looking for it to my 29th Irish Cup Final. 1992 was my first

:27:29.:27:37.

commentary for the BBC and it just happened to be Glenavon two,

:27:38.:27:47.

Linfield one. Is that an omen for today? You're not nervous,

:27:48.:27:54.

experience teaches you not to be nervous but apprehensive because

:27:55.:28:00.

it's like playing, you prepare. You have to care and you have to worry

:28:01.:28:04.

and then you can put one, and to meet its performing. It's

:28:05.:28:12.

journalistic. The research, the work, but you are also a performer.

:28:13.:28:17.

You have to perform, when that red light goes on, when the whistle

:28:18.:28:22.

blows, it's unscripted. I've always called it live theatre. You could

:28:23.:28:28.

have a goal, a bad tackle, a man sent off, but it's all there, so was

:28:29.:28:34.

Roy Walker said, just say what you see. I thought I had the best of it

:28:35.:28:45.

with the 1982 and 1986 teams getting for cup finals, then David Healy

:28:46.:28:50.

scoring goals for fun. The flag stays down. Then he hit it and I

:28:51.:28:59.

said, Healy! Which I said quite a few times and that was a memorable

:29:00.:29:07.

result. The old Windsor Park, I thought it was going to crumble that

:29:08.:29:12.

night. Those are memories that will always be with me and all the rest

:29:13.:29:14.

of the fans. You've been a great servant to

:29:15.:29:27.

Northern Ireland, the sport and the BBC. Jackie, Jackie, Jackie

:29:28.:29:41.

Fullerton! Are you enjoying it? My advice to younger people is to work.

:29:42.:29:49.

If you put into work and you have that little bit of quality some

:29:50.:29:54.

sort, knowledge of the game, it might happen. All the talk is of

:29:55.:30:01.

impending relegation. What do you say to the Taggart and McNamee who

:30:02.:30:09.

are hot on your heels? Not a chance! Know, take that again.

:30:10.:30:16.

You're living the moment as a fan, which basically I am. I just been

:30:17.:30:24.

lucky enough to be a guy who managed to get the microphone. People might

:30:25.:30:30.

ask me, are you sad to be leaving. I'm not sad. Yes, you're sad that

:30:31.:30:37.

something is coming to an end but I've had such a great career in TV

:30:38.:30:39.

over 40 years, I've been blessed. He once said to me in his own way,

:30:40.:31:01.

Mark, one day this could all be yours, but I said, Jackie, all I

:31:02.:31:06.

want is their hair. Can I say, can you believe it?

:31:07.:31:11.

And I still have some of the hair, Mark. That was a nice piece. I've

:31:12.:31:19.

been lucky to meet a lot of people like Alex Ferguson and that's been

:31:20.:31:25.

one of the perks of the game, and this man I have known since he had

:31:26.:31:30.

long blonde hair and a big rumbustious centre-half, and he's

:31:31.:31:36.

now manager of the law mean that United, the club I own, so I'm happy

:31:37.:31:42.

he is working for me -- Ballymena. Thank you very much indeed.

:31:43.:31:46.

Jackie, if you look behind you, Thomas Kane is there with a few days

:31:47.:31:57.

you might know. Yes, that is Darren, all three of Jackie's sons are

:31:58.:32:03.

sports journalists. He is a fixture in the press boxes, not just here

:32:04.:32:08.

but all over the world. How special was today for him? It was quite an

:32:09.:32:14.

emotional day for dad. When he started out in TV, it was 1973, I

:32:15.:32:21.

was three years old and here we are at doing a comment to read today and

:32:22.:32:26.

I'm a wizened middle-aged man so it's been an incredible career for

:32:27.:32:33.

him and I admire his drive and his professionalism and his desire to

:32:34.:32:37.

work. I'm sure he will miss it but he will enjoy his retirement. Thank

:32:38.:32:43.

you, Darren. There is only one Jackie Fullerton MBE. Thank you,

:32:44.:32:49.

Thomas, and thank you, Darren, for those lovely words. I'll give you

:32:50.:32:53.

that money afterwards. He'll be lucky! Let's get back to the game.

:32:54.:33:03.

Very nice tribute there, memories, and I now have to try and

:33:04.:33:12.

concentrate, David. Can you hear, David? Have you done this before,

:33:13.:33:23.

David? First time, Jack! That was a fantastic tribute, and richly

:33:24.:33:31.

deserved. Back to the business. Ward has had a testing time today. Lowry

:33:32.:33:36.

goes right, Paul Smyth. A chance to deliver a cross, get a

:33:37.:33:46.

corner instead, the ball out of play. This is what David Healy would

:33:47.:33:53.

have wanted, Linfield to go right at the Navan and try to snatch an early

:33:54.:33:58.

goal, putting pressure on immediately, and they have got a

:33:59.:33:59.

corner. Plenty of movement in there. It's not a bad ball, they are

:34:00.:34:13.

looking for a handball. They aren't going to get it. I can't see him

:34:14.:34:20.

getting that. I think it was Ciaran Martyn who was there. We can see

:34:21.:34:28.

that in full but it was good defending and quite rightly, he's

:34:29.:34:33.

given a pawn. -- corner. There could be a brake on here. What

:34:34.:34:57.

they good ball. Gone to the cross. Sean Ward just got it away. They

:34:58.:35:07.

were almost caught. Chris talk at half-time about counterattacking

:35:08.:35:11.

play and there Mark Patton brought forward a great place but on this

:35:12.:35:15.

occasion his team-mates couldn't keep up with him. On recent form,

:35:16.:35:23.

Linfield have lost just one of their last 13. Glenavon, they have lost

:35:24.:35:29.

three of their last 13, so Linfield slightly better form but there are

:35:30.:35:37.

even further behind! It's Andy Hall, I believe, who stuck it in the

:35:38.:35:48.

corner. Glenavon, the 3-1 underdogs, art 2-0 up. Three minutes after the

:35:49.:35:56.

break Gary Hamilton cannot believe it. Hall, sixth goal of the season,

:35:57.:36:08.

second in the cup. And what a stunner for Linfield. We talked

:36:09.:36:15.

about Linfield trying to get that equalising goal and instead it's

:36:16.:36:23.

Glenavon, and I don't want to pick people out but defensively Linfield

:36:24.:36:27.

have to do that are there. It was through the legs of Matthew Clarke.

:36:28.:36:34.

He took a good first touch, Andy Hall, and he finished it. A lay-off

:36:35.:36:42.

in a championship last season and here he is scoring in an Irish Cup

:36:43.:36:48.

Final. That's football. He took a great first touch but he shouldn't

:36:49.:36:54.

have been given the time or space. Linfield are right back at Glenavon.

:36:55.:37:06.

Let's see this year. That's a free kick that should be a booking. I

:37:07.:37:16.

haven't seen a card. That was premeditated to hold Mr Waterworth

:37:17.:37:17.

up. They have to defend, but my

:37:18.:37:36.

goodness, 48 minutes, 2-0. But there is a long, long way to go.

:37:37.:37:44.

Aaron Burns has 27 goals this season. He was there. That man

:37:45.:37:59.

again, Jonathan Tuffey, get it up and over. Some people might say that

:38:00.:38:07.

was a strict board take. You have to get there. In comes the corner. It's

:38:08.:38:21.

not awake yet. Back into the middle. That could cause some problems.

:38:22.:38:30.

Glenavon break. They get a lucky bounce.

:38:31.:38:42.

And this core Linfield is a testing period. The players' own mental

:38:43.:38:52.

strength, their belief, here we have the ball taken down by Aaron Burns.

:38:53.:38:57.

I don't see him getting a multi-for that. Absolutely not. He didn't have

:38:58.:39:12.

his arm out in anyway. Even he can't laugh at that, Braniff, you don't

:39:13.:39:16.

often see that but he got the first goal. He has nothing to smile about,

:39:17.:39:24.

David Healy. He will wonder if we can leave it for the next five

:39:25.:39:28.

minutes to see how layers respond or do we make a change to shake things

:39:29.:39:35.

up. I know there was a lot of hurt in the dressing room, when they lost

:39:36.:39:40.

that Shield final earlier this season and David Healy told them to

:39:41.:39:45.

mark the state in their diaries and they would try to get to the cup

:39:46.:39:50.

final and make amends. They got to the cup final but at this moment

:39:51.:39:57.

they are far from making amends. 52 minutes almost gone, we need a bit

:39:58.:40:06.

of magic from somebody. Andy Waterworth, the talismanic skipper,

:40:07.:40:09.

they need a goal from somewhere. The difficulty is that you get a

:40:10.:40:20.

little more tents, you misplaced passes, as has just been the case,

:40:21.:40:27.

and also Glenavon don't have to chase the game, so I am not saying

:40:28.:40:32.

they will sit back and invite Linfield on but they maybe don't

:40:33.:40:37.

have to throw men on as quickly, so when they are defending they can be

:40:38.:40:43.

quick on the counterattack and in field can be susceptible to a third,

:40:44.:40:47.

so Linfield need to be careful they don't concede a third. A fine

:40:48.:40:52.

dividing line because they have to go for it. Glenavon get it back.

:40:53.:41:02.

Lovely ball, Bradley, the willing runner. He did so well, Bruce

:41:03.:41:08.

Marshall gets it in. Lovely bit of skill. Braniff, who

:41:09.:41:29.

celebrated his new contract with a goal, free kick given, Glenavon

:41:30.:41:38.

shout for a multi-perhaps but it was always a free kick. Glenavon or

:41:39.:41:44.

almost playing with a swagger. You see real confidence when they get

:41:45.:41:49.

the ball around the box and maybe desperation from Linfield making

:41:50.:41:53.

sure they do not go a third goal down. Bradley, he tries to curl it

:41:54.:42:09.

but out of luck. It's a while since he got a goal. In February he got

:42:10.:42:15.

two against Portadown and then he was suspended for eight weeks but he

:42:16.:42:20.

hasn't scored since he got back, but he's played his part to date with

:42:21.:42:27.

his workrate. No doubt, benefited are some great pressing by Andrew

:42:28.:42:29.

Hall. Smyth has done well, he gets the

:42:30.:42:42.

cross in but it's cleared away, however briefly. And Linfield David

:42:43.:42:51.

away. Braniff holding off the challenge of Haughey. The man who

:42:52.:43:00.

laid in England myth will ball. He's been round the few corners, Kevin

:43:01.:43:05.

Braniff, he knows the game. Just looking at the bench for Linfield,

:43:06.:43:12.

Kirk Millar, Niall Quinn, midfielder, Steven Fallon can play

:43:13.:43:17.

either wing and we have the goalkeeper, Ross Glendening, so you

:43:18.:43:22.

might see Kirk Millar as one of the changes. I think you're right. I

:43:23.:43:27.

watched him in the latter part of the season and when he has played he

:43:28.:43:34.

has impressed me and you called at 110% correct. He is coming on. How

:43:35.:43:48.

do I do it? Kirk Millar coming on. Aaron Burns is going to play wide

:43:49.:43:52.

left now, Kirk is going to play wide right. Sensible change, they had to

:43:53.:44:00.

do something. As I predict that, there I see it, he was the obvious

:44:01.:44:07.

choice. They had to do something because they would have wanted to

:44:08.:44:13.

get a goal, they didn't, court again, great finish by Andrew Hall.

:44:14.:44:18.

You can see the disappointment in Matthew Clarke. No one wants to come

:44:19.:44:22.

off and eight cup final. Especially when you work to done. But managers

:44:23.:44:29.

have to make decisions for the team and they would was correct there.

:44:30.:44:35.

Healy likes Kirk Millar because this is his 45th appearance of the

:44:36.:44:44.

season, Linfield's 53rd game of the season, he has tough decisions to

:44:45.:44:49.

make. He hoping this change will reinvigorate the team. Bradley has

:44:50.:44:58.

done well, that is not a bad ball. Young Smyth has come over the side,

:44:59.:45:04.

Marshall is showing great pace. This is good from Linfield. Kirk Millar

:45:05.:45:13.

did well to retrieve the situation. Here is Lowry, it nearly got to him.

:45:14.:45:21.

Paul Smyth hit it and it was deflected, Rhys Marshall putting his

:45:22.:45:24.

body on the line to get that one away. It was a great ball by Sean

:45:25.:45:34.

Ward, and that was great offending, applauded by Jonathan Tuffey. Over

:45:35.:45:45.

it comes, oh, dear. Jimmy Callacher, who scored in the cup final here two

:45:46.:45:50.

years ago when Glentoran beat Cliftonville in the final, he'd

:45:51.:45:56.

looked like he thought he should have scored again in a final. Jimmy

:45:57.:46:02.

gets away from his marker, clever movement but when you get that

:46:03.:46:06.

space, the big fellow will be disappointed. Usually he is clinical

:46:07.:46:13.

in those situations. It is getting to the stage, in this final, coming

:46:14.:46:20.

up to the hour, that nothing is going for Linfield. No, there's

:46:21.:46:28.

certainly plenty of effort and commitment but unfortunately

:46:29.:46:38.

Glenavon are very much in control. Ross Gaynor couldn't keep it in. And

:46:39.:46:46.

when I say unfortunately, I mean unfortunately for Linfield, I don't

:46:47.:46:51.

want people to think I am biased. Perish the thought, David. You are a

:46:52.:46:59.

Ballymena man now, remember that. Very much so, Jack. We're laughing

:47:00.:47:07.

but it is no laughing matter for Linfield or their fans. In 2012, you

:47:08.:47:14.

were the manager here, a glorious double, but since then neither of

:47:15.:47:22.

the major trophies. David Healy was hoping to put an end to that

:47:23.:47:31.

drought. This is good from Hall, and Braniff was in at the near post.

:47:32.:47:40.

Just couldn't get the touch. And young Cooper got a touch there.

:47:41.:47:51.

Absolutely fun task. Superb ball. Here's Braniff, all the way through.

:47:52.:47:59.

Gareth Deane has lost his record of keeping clean sheets after two

:48:00.:48:03.

first-half goals, one first-half goal, rather. Then one three minutes

:48:04.:48:14.

afterwards. One hour exactly of the game gone. That was almost a good

:48:15.:48:25.

ball. Ross Gaynor raided it through. Waterworth couldn't capitalise.

:48:26.:48:32.

Sometimes when you are behind, you just don't get that pass exactly

:48:33.:48:38.

right, the ball either goes ahead or behind you, you don't get the

:48:39.:48:43.

fortune you need. You're always a little horrid. -- curried. And

:48:44.:48:52.

because you are hurrying, you end up becoming more anxious and making

:48:53.:48:59.

mistakes. It's easy appear, you can say he should have done this or

:49:00.:49:04.

that, but a different matter out there, especially when you are

:49:05.:49:08.

trailing in a cup final and there are 30 minutes left. Well we may

:49:09.:49:14.

have played in different generations, we have played so we

:49:15.:49:17.

know what it is like for those players. I would have preferred

:49:18.:49:22.

different eras to generations, David, but anyway... I know where

:49:23.:49:31.

you are coming from. There's Andy Kilmartin getting booked, he could

:49:32.:49:35.

have been booked earlier. That's one that he took for the team, just

:49:36.:49:40.

breaking plates up. Not allowing them to get into a fluid rhythm.

:49:41.:49:48.

There's a long way to go and eight Linfield goal will change the whole

:49:49.:49:52.

concept and psyche of this game. The keeper comes, Tuffey does his job

:49:53.:50:03.

well. You absolutely love that as a defender, when the ball comes into

:50:04.:50:08.

the box, your goalkeeper is very commanding, there's the foul I was

:50:09.:50:12.

talking about, he knows what he was doing that then when the ball is put

:50:13.:50:17.

into the box, Jonathan takes it in a most accomplished manner.

:50:18.:50:25.

It's good goalkeeping by young Deane. Well done the goalkeeper.

:50:26.:50:36.

Superb goalkeeping by Gareth Deane. Gets behind the defender, puts the

:50:37.:50:43.

ball in the box, and Gareth court. He had to, did very well. Ball

:50:44.:50:57.

through to the keeper. If we look back at that Kilmartin booking when

:50:58.:51:06.

we get a moment. Through when taking, it's a long ball and it's

:51:07.:51:12.

cleared. And there is a free kick, and there is another yellow card.

:51:13.:51:21.

Ciaran Martyn goes in the book. I don't think he can have any

:51:22.:51:29.

arguments there. Jimmy was going to get to the ball first and a little

:51:30.:51:35.

experience taking one for the team, albeit they conceded a free kick,

:51:36.:51:40.

there is Kilmartin, who was also booked earlier, so that's the two

:51:41.:51:44.

centre Linfield players both on yellow cards and they need to tread

:51:45.:51:50.

carefully. Linfield need a goal to get that into this cup final. Well

:51:51.:51:57.

held by Tuffey, and a little nudge there on the keeper. Callacher

:51:58.:52:03.

climbed so high that couldn't get the power into it. Well shepherded

:52:04.:52:05.

from the ball by Conor Dillon. Lowry, a chance to make ground. He

:52:06.:52:22.

didn't take it, and he gives it away. And that's not what the doctor

:52:23.:52:27.

ordered, or what David Healy ordered. Ross Gaynor looks for a

:52:28.:52:38.

long ball. And there is a little bit of a late challenge from Stephen

:52:39.:52:49.

Lowry. And that's just frustration on his part. Here we will see it. I

:52:50.:53:00.

didn't see a card. The reason why, I think Stephen Lowry has been taken

:53:01.:53:09.

into consideration. Spare a thought for that fellow in the picture. This

:53:10.:53:15.

is a time when you are so helpless as a manager. You can do nothing

:53:16.:53:19.

when Europe players crossed that white line. You can maybe make

:53:20.:53:24.

tactical changes but it is down to the players and David will be hoping

:53:25.:53:29.

his players can get some inspiration somewhere. Waterworth is getting

:53:30.:53:37.

that inspiration now. It's our way for the corner. The hope will build

:53:38.:53:44.

in the North stand which houses Linfield fans. Good luck by Dillon.

:53:45.:53:50.

It is true no lack of effort I Linfield, they are doing everything

:53:51.:53:57.

they have two get at least a first goal back. It's Millar, the subject,

:53:58.:54:06.

with the corner, it's a good ball in. Oh, dear. Kirk Millar, a week

:54:07.:54:20.

ball. A little flick with the outside of the foot. Cooper did so

:54:21.:54:28.

well. It may not be over, but it is now. Mulgrew get it back to Deane in

:54:29.:54:39.

goal. Millar is being closed down by Ciaran Martyn and you have to give

:54:40.:54:46.

Glenavon credit, they are to nil up but their work ethic is top drawer.

:54:47.:54:53.

It's their work rate but also coordination, they are pressing the

:54:54.:54:58.

ball well and squeezing the life out of any Linfield attacks. You can see

:54:59.:55:02.

the shape of the head from Ross Gaynor and that satisfied grin of

:55:03.:55:11.

Andy Hall. Good defensive play and you can see the applause and

:55:12.:55:17.

appreciation of the Glenavon fans. Mark Sykes is coming on. Ciaran

:55:18.:55:27.

Martyn, the skipper, he was 36 in March, he's putting a good shift 67

:55:28.:55:33.

minutes, so he's played his part. A big hug from Gary Hamilton. He's

:55:34.:55:42.

played a tremendous part, no doubt, but don't be thinking this is

:55:43.:55:46.

because he is 36, he made another challenge and I think Gary is

:55:47.:55:57.

thinking he doesn't want... To men. It might be to do with the legs but

:55:58.:56:02.

Sykes is coming on, another impressive performer, another one of

:56:03.:56:10.

the exciting young players. All right, I said the wrong thing, no

:56:11.:56:23.

need to on about it. -- hammer on. Linfield, 68 minutes gone, Braniff

:56:24.:56:32.

helps it on its way. Now there is a chance here, and early ball would

:56:33.:56:41.

put Bradley in. Cooper goes down. Goalkick, simulation. I would like

:56:42.:56:49.

to see this again. I'm not so sure we will have the luxury of this. He

:56:50.:56:55.

is going at pace. No, he's brought the challenge. I wasn't sure from

:56:56.:57:07.

the first angle. Let's look again. The trickery, the pace, no. Well

:57:08.:57:14.

done, Raymond Hetherington. Good refereeing. Excellent. Let's give

:57:15.:57:22.

the referee the praise, they get enough criticism. That was Dillon

:57:23.:57:31.

with the header. Linfield still coming, trying to get forward.

:57:32.:57:37.

Nearly threw from Lowry but not quite. Andy Waterworth was on his

:57:38.:57:48.

way but didn't get to him. We just need somebody in blue to light a

:57:49.:57:53.

fuse and produce that bit of quality. We haven't really seen

:57:54.:58:01.

that. 20 minutes left. This is the time when we give back to the first

:58:02.:58:08.

15 minutes and I referred to when you were in the ascendancy you want

:58:09.:58:13.

to profit, but Linfield didn't do so, at now they are having to play

:58:14.:58:17.

with aspiration and throw men forward and hope something comes

:58:18.:58:25.

off, which is the right thing to do. Yeah, they have got to go for it.

:58:26.:58:35.

Good challenge there, Rhys Marshall. Just 21, this is his 121st

:58:36.:58:43.

appearance, so I think he might clock up quite a number of games but

:58:44.:58:49.

he could be fit for a higher level off at all. He has that pace about.

:58:50.:58:53.

-- about him. Burns. It's away for another corner.

:58:54.:59:12.

Kilmartin was there. Quiet, unassuming but a performer. You

:59:13.:59:22.

would almost think Linfield have to get something now.

:59:23.:59:32.

In goes the header. Tuffey. Easy for him.

:59:33.:59:42.

Ross Gaynor. No problems. Cooper, lovely. Lovely again. Braniff waited

:59:43.:59:58.

too long. Well closed down. Give Ross Gaynor corrode there, right on

:59:59.:00:03.

top of him -- credit there, right on top of him.

:00:04.:00:26.

Glenavon are here now in the final after beating several teams

:00:27.:00:34.

beforehand. It's their 17th final, won it just six times. The last time

:00:35.:00:40.

was two years ago. What a job Gary Hamilton is doing. It's not over

:00:41.:00:47.

yet, of course. But to all intents and purposes, it's a long way back

:00:48.:00:54.

for the men in blue. They are finding it difficult to get the

:00:55.:00:57.

final pass in, the penetrative pass, to create that opportunity. At the

:00:58.:01:07.

moment, Glenavon are very much in control and charge. Great ball from

:01:08.:01:11.

Braniff. Haughey. Cooper. Lovely play. Kilmartin.

:01:12.:01:38.

Braniff thought he should get something there.

:01:39.:01:47.

I think Glenavon players thought there that there might have been a

:01:48.:02:03.

card on display. It wasn't a good tackle. No, I have to agree. Back in

:02:04.:02:10.

the day they would have said it's a typical centre forward tackle and

:02:11.:02:15.

they don't really mean it, yet those tackles can hurt you. Very much so.

:02:16.:02:24.

Touch on. Mulgrew. You become anxious and your touch

:02:25.:02:57.

and pass isn't as measured. Gaynor. Millar. Waterworth. No real supply

:02:58.:03:04.

of the ball today, Waterworth. They have got a free kick, Linfield.

:03:05.:03:09.

Coming up to 15 minutes left of the 90.

:03:10.:03:20.

Yellow card for Mr Kelly. He's asking what for. He knows exactly

:03:21.:03:24.

what for. Wastes another few seconds as well

:03:25.:03:45.

as the clock runs down. Need to conjure up something quickly or else

:03:46.:03:49.

this final is done and dusted in favour of Glenavon. Gaynor.

:03:50.:03:55.

Callacher. Can't get to it. Dillon with the header. Braniff. Given it

:03:56.:04:04.

away. A bit of a late challenge there.

:04:05.:04:10.

Lowry thinks it was a bit of play acting but he's been booked. And

:04:11.:04:23.

that is frustration. To be fair to Raymond Hetherington, it was the

:04:24.:04:26.

previous tackle that maybe he could have been backed for. He had no

:04:27.:04:32.

choice. He's going for a 3-4-3. Less than 15

:04:33.:04:53.

to go, they are going to have to go for it. All-or-nothing now for the

:04:54.:04:55.

boss. Very much so. He's worried at the time-wasting

:04:56.:05:20.

there. There's the flick-on. The south stand below us is noisy and

:05:21.:05:31.

they are singing. They can see the Irish cup being paraded through

:05:32.:05:35.

Lurgan in the next few days so why shouldn't they be happy? Underdogs.

:05:36.:05:43.

Linfield five six favourites. Glenavon 3-1 you could have got. I

:05:44.:05:46.

said they were generous odds at the start.

:05:47.:06:13.

Linfield don't need that. 12 minutes left. Made the contactical switch.

:06:14.:06:23.

He's gone with three at the back. Quinn has come to the left. He's

:06:24.:06:31.

pushed another man forward. They are simply going for broke. They have

:06:32.:06:42.

to. Waterworth. Millar. Away for the corner.

:06:43.:06:58.

It wasn't a great one. Hit by Waterworth but the angle was against

:06:59.:07:11.

him. It's been that sort of day for Waterworth and Linfield. Good effort

:07:12.:07:18.

though. Great effort. Got in front of the defender very well. Quinn,

:07:19.:07:25.

plenty of pace on it. Andrew didn't have to do too much. Unfortunately

:07:26.:07:27.

for him, it was off target. No movement at the dug-outs I'm

:07:28.:07:51.

told. Quinn. Smyth. Free kick for that.

:07:52.:08:04.

That wasn't a good tackle. Not sure what he's arguing about. I think

:08:05.:08:10.

what you'll see is that certainly there is a clear, clear, clear free

:08:11.:08:16.

kick, but then there's a little, you don't see nit the shot there, but

:08:17.:08:19.

there was a little Beckham-like kickout by Smyth. He's got that in

:08:20.:08:26.

his locker young Smyth hasn't he? That's what Rhys Marshall was

:08:27.:08:29.

bringing to the referee's attention. Raymond's right to ignore it, to be

:08:30.:08:31.

fair. Are we to get a cameo role from the

:08:32.:08:44.

player/manager? 35 years of age. He's suffered a lot of injuries over

:08:45.:08:49.

his career at different times. I think this might be his last season.

:08:50.:08:54.

But at the moment, Glenavon are defending a free kick. Ten minutes

:08:55.:08:59.

left. A Linfield goal would give us an exciting finish.

:09:00.:09:08.

David with nine minutes left, it looks as though it will be settled

:09:09.:09:15.

in the 90 minutes. You have to think about man-of-the-match? Certainly

:09:16.:09:20.

there's been several very impressive performers. Bradley has worked

:09:21.:09:22.

tirelessly. Not yet, day slid. -- David. OK,

:09:23.:09:35.

Jack. We'll leave it to the last minute. There are a few candidates

:09:36.:09:40.

you would say at this moment in time.

:09:41.:09:45.

Linfield fans in the North Stand, quiet in the main but some still

:09:46.:09:53.

animated hoping for something of a comeback to get back into this

:09:54.:09:54.

final. Doesn't look as the It's going to

:09:55.:10:03.

happen. But who knows. Eight minutes left.

:10:04.:10:20.

Glenavon are getting every man behind the ball. Ward. Mullah should

:10:21.:10:31.

have been expecting that. Good run by Ward. He'll be disappointed.

:10:32.:10:39.

There he is. I think they are saying to him, are you sure you are going

:10:40.:10:50.

on. If you remember back to the last victory in the Irish Cup, he came on

:10:51.:10:56.

and basically settled things down, calmed nerves. And he got a

:10:57.:11:00.

Ballymena man on. Chance for a third. Braniff. He couldn't make it

:11:01.:11:08.

a real double celebration for himself. I would have put my house

:11:09.:11:18.

on Braniff finishing that. So cool, so much skill. The keeper did well,

:11:19.:11:25.

to his credit. Here comb Linfield. It's all happening. Linfield still

:11:26.:11:35.

trying to play their football. Great ball in. Waterworth should have done

:11:36.:11:39.

better with that. Surely he was there for the header and I think the

:11:40.:11:44.

look tells you he knows that. No doubt about it. Glorious cross in.

:11:45.:11:55.

Appealing for a corner which he knows he wasn't getting.

:11:56.:12:14.

Enjoying the result. Here is the man coming on for his fourth final. He

:12:15.:12:24.

won two of those, one with Portadown and one two years ago with Glenavon.

:12:25.:12:30.

He's 35, in his twilight, but as a manager, he's in the Spotlight.

:12:31.:12:35.

Couldn't have put it any better. Last week, he's centre half, this

:12:36.:12:40.

week centre forward. Must play tribute to him. What a contribution

:12:41.:12:46.

he's made today, Bradley. Gary's just come on to settle the nerves

:12:47.:12:50.

and help manage the game out. I'm not sure if viewers at home

:12:51.:13:09.

could hear that, but I'm glad of that announcement, that the pitch is

:13:10.:13:14.

kept clear of fans because it allows whoever is victorious, the players

:13:15.:13:18.

to enjoy their moment, and the fans in the stands to enjoy it also.

:13:19.:13:28.

Absolutely. Linfield won against Bangor in 1994. 22 years ago. Just a

:13:29.:13:38.

meaningless start for this Linfield team who 'll be so hurt and

:13:39.:13:48.

devastated by this result. Time running away from them. It's hard to

:13:49.:13:56.

cope with, David. I was unlucky, I didn't get to play in a final, you

:13:57.:14:00.

did. You didn't win it, as a player, but you've had the devastation of

:14:01.:14:09.

losing finals, as a player. It really is a most gut-wrenching

:14:10.:14:11.

feeling. As a player, it was really an awful

:14:12.:14:27.

draining doiventing feeling. There is such a build-up to this massive

:14:28.:14:33.

day -- disappointing. Last day of the season. When you are second

:14:34.:14:45.

best, you really do feel low. Here comes Waterworth.

:14:46.:14:55.

David Healy, it's all gone wrong. His second Cup Final of the season.

:14:56.:15:45.

Two minutes left. Man-of-the-match time? Who's won it? Some outstanding

:15:46.:15:57.

performances. Tuffey had a very, very important save to make. He's

:15:58.:16:00.

been very, very safe in what he's done. Very assured. He's proved best

:16:01.:16:08.

goalkeeper in the league. Centre of the park. Kilmartin was absolutely

:16:09.:16:15.

excellent. Wide areas, we had Joel Cooper, Andy Hall, with the work

:16:16.:16:21.

rate of Owen Bradley. But for me, the man-of-the-match has got to go

:16:22.:16:30.

to Kevin Braniff. Kevin Braniff is the BBC man-of-the-match. When

:16:31.:16:40.

things aren't going for you, Jack, they just don't go for you. Any

:16:41.:16:45.

other day, Andrew would have got his touch right and buried it. You can

:16:46.:16:52.

see the frustration. Kevin Braniff, marvellous first goal. It was a

:16:53.:16:55.

better goal than people give credit for because the ball just touched

:16:56.:17:02.

the ground before he hit it, it was almost a little half volley. Ball

:17:03.:17:07.

control was excellent and also work rate for the team. You mentioned

:17:08.:17:11.

about him back defending at corner kicks and free kicks. It's been a

:17:12.:17:17.

most comprehensive and holistic performance.

:17:18.:17:29.

His side are about to win the Irish cup, second time in three years. Can

:17:30.:17:37.

you believe it? Linfield will have something to say about it at the

:17:38.:17:46.

death. Doesn't look like it now. Sean Ward. Hamilton is playing like

:17:47.:17:49.

a man possessed. Couple of free kicks as well. He's

:17:50.:18:08.

helping his team just manage the game out.

:18:09.:18:23.

Cooper is coming off for Kearns. He's had a very, very good match.

:18:24.:18:34.

That's how well he played! Appreciation there.

:18:35.:18:58.

Way over the far side, the left-wing, it was a wonder goal. But

:18:59.:19:05.

did he mean it? He'll always claim he did and why not. Celebrating

:19:06.:19:20.

already. The new coach there at Glenavon, formerly of Ballymena,

:19:21.:19:21.

he's played in a cup himself. A fantastic job has been done at

:19:22.:19:46.

Glenavon and the appreciation for the coach, the coaching staff and

:19:47.:19:53.

the players, you have got to say that the contributions shouldn't go

:19:54.:19:59.

unnoticed. I hardly heard a word of that, the director was given end of

:20:00.:20:03.

Machin struckions and he was very loud in my ear. But it's all

:20:04.:20:11.

petering out -- end of match instructions.

:20:12.:20:15.

I haven't seen the sign from the linesman or the fourth official.

:20:16.:20:24.

From our vantage point, we are out of sight. Who designed this stadium?

:20:25.:20:31.

! There can't be more than four minutes I wouldn't have thought.

:20:32.:20:36.

We've had a few... Three minutes of time added. You can feel in many

:20:37.:20:45.

ways, you give credit to the winners, there they are, about to

:20:46.:20:51.

enjoy themselves, but you look at the North Stand and the Linfield

:20:52.:20:55.

fans who've been starved of major success, it's a sad day for them.

:20:56.:20:59.

It's a difficult day. It's a frustrating day. From a fans' point

:21:00.:21:05.

of view, you can understand why some of them are leaving early. Others

:21:06.:21:13.

will stay and try and just give their team all the backing they can.

:21:14.:21:22.

It's all over! The cup goes to Glenavon. Gary Hamilton's second cup

:21:23.:21:32.

success in three years for him. Unbelievable. Seventh time to win

:21:33.:21:40.

the trophy, throughs the ?20,000 in prize money which helps. The success

:21:41.:21:46.

two years ago, they beat Ballymena United. Third in the league again.

:21:47.:21:51.

Into Europe again. The financial bonanza of that sum, ?200,000. And

:21:52.:21:59.

Hamilton's done it again. David, he's certainly making his mark here

:22:00.:22:07.

and the fans love him. There's a few tears for Tuffey as well. That's

:22:08.:22:12.

nice. So proud of him. He put so much of his game down to the man

:22:13.:22:20.

that's with him there. What a contribution. Kelly was absolutely

:22:21.:22:29.

Nosh mouse in that defence -- ginormous. We can go pitch side.

:22:30.:22:38.

Thomas, it's all yours. To Glenavon players singing in the

:22:39.:22:43.

rain, congratulations. You are the man-of-the-match. What was the key

:22:44.:22:47.

to the victory? We were told to go out today and press as hard on the

:22:48.:22:55.

pitch. The first 15 minutes we started off sloppy but after the

:22:56.:22:58.

first 15, we then controlled the game. I don't think it was a great

:22:59.:23:03.

game but I think we controlled the game. I don't think they had many

:23:04.:23:07.

chances. We managed to take ours. That was the key today.

:23:08.:23:11.

One just before half time, one just after half time. How important were

:23:12.:23:15.

the timings of the goals? Yes, no better time to score. Two great

:23:16.:23:19.

times to score goals obviously, but it's just a great day obviously to

:23:20.:23:25.

win this, on our home patch, makes it beer. -- better. You seem to have

:23:26.:23:32.

a great spirit within the squad, has the manager helped create that? Of

:23:33.:23:35.

course, he's great with the lads. You have to give the lads credit,

:23:36.:23:39.

they are a great bunch of lads to play with. It's a pleasure to play

:23:40.:23:43.

with him. You are about to get a medal and a trophy, but here is your

:23:44.:23:50.

man-of-the-match trophy as well. We can make our way over to the rest of

:23:51.:23:54.

the Glenavon players over here and try and get a word with some more of

:23:55.:24:00.

them. Kevin getting his land shake and most of them are over here.

:24:01.:24:08.

Ciaran Martyn is the first we have come across here. You deserved that?

:24:09.:24:13.

Over the 90 minutes, we fully deserved that. Initially controlled

:24:14.:24:21.

the first 15-20 minutes, looked nervous. It wasn't a spectacle, it

:24:22.:24:25.

was a grind really. We got the goal before half time and it set us up.

:24:26.:24:29.

We scored early in the second half and hung on from there. People might

:24:30.:24:36.

forget it now, your keeper who's been immense all season, a very

:24:37.:24:41.

important save made by him? He's been immense for us, as you say, and

:24:42.:24:47.

you don't expect it from him. At times we can be sloppy and rerely on

:24:48.:24:53.

him and he's bailed us out at times. Inspirational for us. Thank you very

:24:54.:24:57.

much. Back with more reaction ahead of the presentation.

:24:58.:25:03.

Thank you very much indeed. There's a young man who was in tears. He

:25:04.:25:07.

said this would be right up there with the highlights of his career

:25:08.:25:11.

and he's played for Northern Ireland, he's played in Scotland,

:25:12.:25:17.

full-time football, putting on his Mark Farren T-shirt and that must be

:25:18.:25:22.

his young son. That is CT, Carter Tuffey. What a name! They are ready

:25:23.:25:30.

to enjoy it. Oh, there's Carter, what a boy he is. That's a girl!

:25:31.:25:36.

That's not his son, that's actually his little niece. You know the whole

:25:37.:25:43.

family! Full-time score in this Tennents Irish Cup Final, they'll be

:25:44.:25:49.

celebrating in Lurgan, Glenavon 2 already 0 Linfield. -- Glenavon 2-0

:25:50.:26:00.

Linfield. They'll not drop the silverware. The day has belonged to

:26:01.:26:07.

the Mid Ulster Blues, it's all about Glenavon unquestionably the better

:26:08.:26:15.

team's won. Let's go pitch side for more reaction from Thomas. Fantastic

:26:16.:26:21.

scenes here. Gary Hamilton, you made a cameo appearance at the end but

:26:22.:26:25.

most of the work was done in the dressing room. How proud are you?

:26:26.:26:31.

They all did excellent, 1-11. They were brilliant. They were absolutely

:26:32.:26:39.

outstanding. Proud as punch. All the back room staff, thank you for all

:26:40.:26:43.

their help, three, four, four-and-a-half years I've been

:26:44.:26:46.

here, thanks to all the directors and the fans, they are all back in

:26:47.:26:51.

numbers again. Great to see. It's lovely for us, good for the players

:26:52.:26:54.

and they have been like an extra man foreus all the way through the

:26:55.:27:00.

tournament. Especially Mark Farren, that was for Mark, his wife was here

:27:01.:27:06.

today and it's great, it was for him and his boys and his wife. Two Irish

:27:07.:27:12.

cups now, super. The supporters, the players are

:27:13.:27:15.

loving these scenes, they played a huge role as well today? They have

:27:16.:27:21.

been brilliant. Like a 12th man. Last year, under Europe, last year

:27:22.:27:24.

in the Irish cup win, they have been excellent every single year. It's

:27:25.:27:30.

great to have them back in numbers supporting the boys the way they

:27:31.:27:33.

are, it's a great feeling. Sometimes you can't appreciate the fans

:27:34.:27:37.

enough, it's been superb. You've got a lovely mix of experience and youth

:27:38.:27:45.

within the squad. The likes of Kilmartin, Martyn alongside

:27:46.:27:49.

Marshall, Cooper, players like that, how important is it? So important to

:27:50.:27:54.

have Kilmartin, Kelly, all those, it's so important to have them and

:27:55.:27:59.

I'm so delighted for that man there. Last year he got let go by Linfield,

:28:00.:28:03.

to come back against the team that let him go and perform the way he's

:28:04.:28:09.

done to get a clean sheet, sums him up, brilliant. We heard your

:28:10.:28:18.

man-of-the-match centre half for the reserves, played a couple today is.

:28:19.:28:23.

That the last cameo? Hopefully not. Well, again I wouldn't mind if we

:28:24.:28:29.

can get not enough people I would have to play but hopefully it's not

:28:30.:28:35.

the last time. I'll come on as sub next year if need be. We'll let you

:28:36.:28:46.

enjoy the rest of the presentation. Apologies for the language, it's an

:28:47.:28:52.

emotionally charged interview. We'll hopefully speak to the keeper who

:28:53.:28:57.

played such a pivotal role today. The players are very conscious of

:28:58.:29:01.

the facts that the supporters have play add key role. Also playing a

:29:02.:29:06.

key role today for the final time, the one, the only, Mr Jackie

:29:07.:29:09.

Fullerton. Thank you very much indeed. That

:29:10.:29:19.

expression says it all. You can understand their disappointment.

:29:20.:29:27.

Lovely shot there. A little bit of bobo required. As a grandad I know

:29:28.:29:32.

about these things. David will have to go up and receive a losers'

:29:33.:29:38.

medal. He'll do it with dignity. The It's not really what David Healy

:29:39.:29:45.

would want. But Linfield, they are in Europe, they were second in the

:29:46.:29:48.

table, they can make a serious challenge next season for the

:29:49.:29:49.

league. Smith he will remember this day.

:29:50.:30:10.

Glenallen! Blaenavon, what a cheer and what a reception they are

:30:11.:30:19.

getting -- Glenavon. The T-shirts are in memory of Mark Farren who

:30:20.:30:24.

passed away, well remembered today. His wife, led Glenavon out. Lovely

:30:25.:30:33.

touch, added to the day, even better that they won it. They are paying

:30:34.:30:40.

tribute to both sets of supporters, in the 10th minute they turned

:30:41.:30:46.

together in that fabulous applause and look at that now, every single

:30:47.:30:55.

Glenavon player, the shirt on. He is enjoying it. I think that was Kris

:30:56.:31:15.

Lindsay. They go through it. I have lost my note with the name of the

:31:16.:31:18.

man from tenants on it. My apologies to him. Brian Beattie is that man.

:31:19.:31:30.

And it is so good, in their first year of a five-year agreement and a

:31:31.:31:36.

much-needed sponsor for the Irish Cup. There is the contrasting mood.

:31:37.:31:42.

That is the hardest thing to do as a player and as a team, when you are

:31:43.:31:46.

defeated, you have to stand there with grace and applaud obviously the

:31:47.:31:52.

victors, were really worry you want to be is in out of the road. Credit

:31:53.:31:59.

to the Linfield players, credit to those supporters of Linfield who

:32:00.:32:06.

have stayed behind to support their team and acknowledge their reference

:32:07.:32:16.

and also those of Glenavon. Kris Lindsay there. Some will be

:32:17.:32:22.

surprised he was left out today. Here we are. Ciaran Martyn shares

:32:23.:32:39.

the joy. Glenavon FC! Absolute joy on those faces. And the fans in the

:32:40.:32:44.

South stands, what were they now are, getting the cap, a former

:32:45.:32:51.

Rattery in the background there. He is from the mid-Ulster area. Great

:32:52.:32:58.

celebrations, there are 106 final, but that Windsor Park, the first

:32:59.:33:05.

final at the new Windsor Park. As Gary said, these players are now

:33:06.:33:11.

legends at the club, two years, two times in three years they have won

:33:12.:33:16.

the cup. Marshall, pattern, Martin, the only survivors from three years

:33:17.:33:24.

ago, how quickly the ball changes. Unbelievable, credit to Gary and his

:33:25.:33:29.

management team in terms of their identification of players, their

:33:30.:33:32.

recruitment of players and their consistency and what you have also

:33:33.:33:36.

got to say is well done, not only to the victors but how they have

:33:37.:33:39.

performed in the league. It has been quite impressive.

:33:40.:33:46.

There will be a hot town in the old town tonight of Lurgan. There we

:33:47.:33:54.

are. The celebrations will continue long into the night. Glenavon are

:33:55.:34:03.

the champions, the Irish Cup winners 2016, they have beaten Linfield by

:34:04.:34:13.

2-0. Thank you very much to debt -- David, Jeffrey and Jackie Fullerton.

:34:14.:34:19.

Glenavon are the champ -- champions. Gary Hamilton has written himself a

:34:20.:34:23.

little footnote in history, Gary Hamilton becomes the first manager

:34:24.:34:28.

of Glenavon to win the cup twice and he has done it twice in three years.

:34:29.:34:33.

Stephen Baxter and Chris Morgan both with me. The better side won. I do

:34:34.:34:41.

not think there is any doubt. Linfield had the 15 minutes at the

:34:42.:34:44.

start of the game where they were the better side, a couple of

:34:45.:34:47.

chances, could not take them, from that point on, Glenavon dominated,

:34:48.:34:53.

scored the goals, scored them at good times, the second one was

:34:54.:34:58.

crucial so early in the second half, Linfield never recovered and

:34:59.:35:01.

Glenavon had chances to extend that lead. That was at different moments

:35:02.:35:12.

in the game. You fancied the blues. Bar that first 15 near it -- 50

:35:13.:35:16.

minute period of dominance, it did not happen. It started off like a

:35:17.:35:21.

house on fire, they had three or four big chances but once Glenavon

:35:22.:35:25.

got up the pitch, having weathered the storm, they grew in dominance in

:35:26.:35:30.

the game, they ended up bossing the game and the second half performance

:35:31.:35:35.

was clinical. I said at half-time, Linfield had no penetration at the

:35:36.:35:39.

top end of the park, not committing bodies forward and had no goal

:35:40.:35:43.

threat. Glenavon really ran away with it, they were miles the better

:35:44.:35:48.

team. Owen Bradley, conscious that Ciaran Martyn described it as a

:35:49.:35:54.

grind rather than spectacle, but the first Cup Final in this new national

:35:55.:35:58.

stadium, it was more than a grind, it was a spectacle. I enjoyed

:35:59.:36:02.

beginning. I thought that everyone tried to get the ball down and pass

:36:03.:36:07.

it and use the wide areas well, sometimes when you're playing, you

:36:08.:36:12.

are concentrating, not engaging a lot of ball into the box. He is a

:36:13.:36:19.

defensive midfielder. Glenavon today, they worked the ball in good

:36:20.:36:24.

areas, when you have a player like Kevin Braniff, who does something

:36:25.:36:27.

special every time you get the ball, he will be disappointed he did not

:36:28.:36:31.

score the goal, but he was brilliant. Let us go pitch side.

:36:32.:36:38.

Thomas King, it is all yours. What a year it has been, what were you

:36:39.:36:44.

doing last year? This time last year, I had just lost at

:36:45.:36:51.

Warrenpoint. It is such a difference. How special was today?

:36:52.:36:55.

It was really special, the whole build-up, I was itching to get out

:36:56.:37:00.

on the pitch and luckily enough I ended up scoring. What a

:37:01.:37:03.

contribution, tell us about your goal? I think I scoffed at. In years

:37:04.:37:11.

to come, you will be telling that. You had them, they all go N. It is

:37:12.:37:17.

all the thing, one goal. We will let you get back into the celebrations.

:37:18.:37:22.

What a year for you as well, how much have you enjoyed the

:37:23.:37:25.

experience? It has been unbelievable. What this club has

:37:26.:37:31.

given to me, it is sensational. To go from where I was last year, to

:37:32.:37:39.

get an opportunity, play week in week out, qualify for Europe, this

:37:40.:37:46.

is enough. Was it a case of confidence for you? The fate they

:37:47.:37:50.

showed a new? Yes. When you have a manager that back shoe to the

:37:51.:37:55.

health, no matter what you do, he stands by you, that is phenomenal.

:37:56.:37:59.

He installed that in me and words fail me, it has been incredible.

:38:00.:38:05.

Enjoy today, you deserve it. Alan Bradley, come here, you have done it

:38:06.:38:14.

again? First-ever final, never thought I would play here in the

:38:15.:38:21.

errors Cup Final. Delighted. Very proud -- Irish Cup final. Great for

:38:22.:38:28.

the club, look at that, what can you say. What is Gary like in the

:38:29.:38:36.

dressing room? Last year things did not go right, Gary and I are best

:38:37.:38:44.

friends. So credit to him, look at the job he has done. When he came to

:38:45.:38:50.

the club, we were bottom, now we are one of the top clubs. Champions two

:38:51.:38:56.

years out of three. What can we say? Enjoy yourself. I think everyone

:38:57.:39:03.

here is enjoying the party. Thank you, of course Eoin Bradley, he is

:39:04.:39:08.

renowned for his physicality, but a subtle dig that sent them on their

:39:09.:39:15.

way. Joyous scenes and bridles, I do not know if that is Lurgan

:39:16.:39:20.

champagne, but it is that Champagne moment. They have won the Irish Cup

:39:21.:39:25.

for only the fourth time in their history and what a performance,

:39:26.:39:31.

their leaders are at. 89 macro is superstitious, they all met in a

:39:32.:39:36.

Belfast restaurant for breakfast, but Jonathan Tuffey brought rice and

:39:37.:39:40.

beans, every match date since he was 16. He was outstanding. He made

:39:41.:39:46.

saves at the right times when Linfield have the ascendancy, it was

:39:47.:39:52.

the save he made with his foot against Stephen Lowry. In games like

:39:53.:39:56.

this, the first goal can be so important, if Linfield get it, we

:39:57.:40:00.

could have been talking about a different result, that save gave

:40:01.:40:04.

Glenavon the belief, Linfield had a few chances, after that, I think a

:40:05.:40:09.

lot of what he did was routine. What he does, he creates confidence in

:40:10.:40:16.

his back four. They know that he has had a great season. I have not been

:40:17.:40:20.

a defender but I know that as a team if you have a goalkeeper you can

:40:21.:40:23.

rely on who makes saves it creates confidence in the team and he has

:40:24.:40:27.

had a great day and you heard him talk about his season, it is pleased

:40:28.:40:33.

to see him recover. There is Gary Hamilton with his grandfather, he

:40:34.:40:36.

was not sure if he would make it this afternoon, he has made it and

:40:37.:40:42.

he has witnessed this, Gary Hamilton, his grandson has guided

:40:43.:40:45.

Glenavon to a second Irish Cup in three years and more broadly, no

:40:46.:40:50.

other manager in the history of the Lurgan Blues has done that before.

:40:51.:40:53.

Well done to Gary Hamilton, handshakes all round and I suspect

:40:54.:40:58.

there will be patting on the back and applause for many many days to

:40:59.:41:03.

come. There is another man who has done his bit, let me bring in

:41:04.:41:07.

Stephen Baxter, I guess you can say that you were beaten by the cup

:41:08.:41:13.

finalist, they beat you 4-3 in a classic, it was a formidable

:41:14.:41:16.

performance this afternoon. They are thoroughly deserving of this. No

:41:17.:41:21.

doubt, Glenavon have pushed us this year. They gave us hardest games. We

:41:22.:41:28.

got a couple of wins in the league against them and they won the cup

:41:29.:41:32.

game here for - three and that was a fantastic game of football to be

:41:33.:41:36.

involved in. Both teams played well. You take your hat to them, Gary made

:41:37.:41:44.

a couple of big decisions, playing Mark Patton at left back. He moved

:41:45.:41:49.

Marshall to write back and he had a superb game. Jonathan Tuffey led

:41:50.:41:55.

from the back, gave the instructions and bass the back four and they

:41:56.:41:59.

looked assured. They did not take pressure from Linfield, there was no

:42:00.:42:03.

press in the game from Linfield and that is down to players who know

:42:04.:42:07.

what they are about. I want both of you to look at the broader picture,

:42:08.:42:11.

a couple of penalty calls on the second half, talk us through these,

:42:12.:42:15.

you feel the referee got these spot on. Is absolutely spot on. That goal

:42:16.:42:25.

had a hand of Ciaran Martyn -- ball. He is asking for it, Aaron Burns,

:42:26.:42:28.

but I would have been surprised to see the referee gave a penalty. He

:42:29.:42:33.

is so close and his arms are tucked down by his side, no penalty. Up

:42:34.:42:39.

comes the Joel Cooper incident and no penalty, you think that was ball

:42:40.:42:47.

to hand rather than hand to ball. His arm has not gone out towards it.

:42:48.:42:56.

The Cobra incident, -- Joel Cooper. The referee is in a good position, I

:42:57.:43:01.

think he was going to ground before the challenge even came. He was

:43:02.:43:06.

looking for a penalty, he probably should have played in Kevin Braniff.

:43:07.:43:11.

He was on the right-hand side. You have to give him credit, perfectly

:43:12.:43:15.

positioned. We said that at the start, the referee got all the big

:43:16.:43:22.

decisions right. The goals, Stephen talk us through these, in reverse

:43:23.:43:27.

order, the first of the goals in the second half first. Well taken and

:43:28.:43:33.

conclusive. Great hold-up play. Smashing delivery into the box. My

:43:34.:43:39.

severed from Bradley. I was pleased for him, he took his time, did not

:43:40.:43:45.

panic, took one touch, flicked it up. Bradley took the overhead kick,

:43:46.:43:50.

it breaks for him. Defensively, any queries. Sometimes the ball comes

:43:51.:43:58.

into the box and you need to try and mark-up and credit to the opposing

:43:59.:44:03.

team who get that goal away. It was a really nice touch from Hall. Here

:44:04.:44:10.

is the gold from the first half. Watch this ball, it is magnificent.

:44:11.:44:16.

Kevin Braniff was the man, he found the space, we see it in live play,

:44:17.:44:22.

he came from 40 or 50 yards behind to put himself into the space to

:44:23.:44:26.

score the goal and you have to ask where was the Linfield marking?

:44:27.:44:29.

Intuitive understanding between the two from them. That is the

:44:30.:44:35.

combination play you're working on all year, that is what makes you a

:44:36.:44:40.

standout team and Glenavon have that in abundance. They say we come to

:44:41.:44:45.

play, we come to attack and they took all the chances, put the

:44:46.:44:49.

pressure on, once they weathered the first 15 minute storm, they kept

:44:50.:44:52.

going after the game and they ran away with it in the end. We made a

:44:53.:44:58.

lot about Jonathan Tuffey, as we look on at these celebration

:44:59.:45:03.

pictures, the save is crucial. It is a magnificent reflex. That is nearly

:45:04.:45:09.

in the net, his hands are up but he gets the foot out. Is this one even

:45:10.:45:14.

better? Even better. He is watching the play, watching the ball all the

:45:15.:45:18.

time, in position quickly, you have to know you are about, experience

:45:19.:45:24.

taking over. He is barking out the orders, he was class today. It was

:45:25.:45:30.

anything but a gimmick. I would say that he would fancy he would say

:45:31.:45:35.

that most times. He was starting to move in the other direction and got

:45:36.:45:39.

back and saved it. I made the point earlier, it is the confidence it

:45:40.:45:44.

creates in others, defensively you know you have got a goalkeeper that

:45:45.:45:47.

the other team have to do a lot to get past. The big performance from

:45:48.:45:52.

him today. You mentioned the big performance, he has joined us, the

:45:53.:45:55.

man with a big boys, Jackie Fullerton. I know you will be

:45:56.:46:00.

nervous, but he is only here for the next ten minutes. I guess we will do

:46:01.:46:07.

this, congratulations. Did you enjoy it? I was quite relaxed and happy.

:46:08.:46:12.

Can I do at a game in next year? Maybe I have been premature. It is

:46:13.:46:17.

time to bring down the curtain. You're interviewed by Thomas, he

:46:18.:46:23.

tried to retire Gary Hamilton. It has come full circle, this man

:46:24.:46:29.

played in the first one you did. It is amazing that the first commentary

:46:30.:46:36.

I did for the BBC was in 1992 at the Oval, you will remember that, you

:46:37.:46:43.

are playing Number 10. Sadly, you lost it and that day Glenavon won

:46:44.:46:52.

2-1, Gerry McMahon and got one. It was his last game before he went to

:46:53.:46:57.

Spurs. He played for Northern Ireland as well. Here we are, when I

:46:58.:47:02.

decide to retire it is Linfield against Glenavon and Glenavon win it

:47:03.:47:09.

again by 2-0. A tremendous performance and you have to say,

:47:10.:47:14.

Glenavon deserved it, I do not know what the boys were saying. That is

:47:15.:47:21.

the way we saw it. Kevin Braniff, Majestic finish. It was not an easy

:47:22.:47:26.

ball. As we look at the celebration pictures,... Great ball from

:47:27.:47:35.

Bradley, Brazilian like outside of the foot and it was not an easy ball

:47:36.:47:42.

to finish. It was on the half volley and then to get that second goal,

:47:43.:47:46.

two and a half or three minutes into the second half. A few goals to look

:47:47.:47:51.

at, can you say something nice about this guy? Jackie and I go back a

:47:52.:48:01.

long way, he is a Crusaders man. Jackie is the ultimate professional,

:48:02.:48:05.

everything he has done, all through the years, things I have done with

:48:06.:48:09.

him, he makes it easy and he is a pleasure to be around and the

:48:10.:48:13.

company is great, he did a lot of dinners for us and a personal dinner

:48:14.:48:19.

for me and I can only thank him. I think your magnificent. Chris? First

:48:20.:48:23.

time I met Jackie was a long time ago on a trip to the US and he has

:48:24.:48:30.

been very generous sense... His mobile is going off. Since I have

:48:31.:48:34.

made the transition. If that is Windsor parlour. It is my agent!

:48:35.:48:43.

Since then I have made the transition from player to occasional

:48:44.:48:49.

pundit for BBC and you have been very generous in your advice and

:48:50.:48:53.

help towards me and I think we will all miss you, I hope you're still

:48:54.:48:58.

around Paris league football. Thank you. I will not miss him all! I

:48:59.:49:05.

thought I would never see the day. Many highlights down through your

:49:06.:49:09.

Cup Final commentaries, we will take a look at a few of them. A few of

:49:10.:49:14.

your standout moments, here is the first one. Glentoran player down

:49:15.:49:20.

endured, but play continues. Glen Little runs a part of the defence.

:49:21.:49:28.

Still going. A goal! Sensational goal from Glen Little it is 1-0 to

:49:29.:49:35.

Glentoran. And they go absolutely wild in the North stand. Talk us

:49:36.:49:42.

through that one in ten seconds. That was 1996I do believe. Glen

:49:43.:49:51.

Little, not a great game, but this finish let the matchup and it won

:49:52.:49:56.

the cup for Glentoran. Glen Little, being bushmen who eventually played

:49:57.:50:00.

in English football. I have to goals I remember from 29 cup finals, that

:50:01.:50:06.

was one of them and the other one was scored by this man. Cute on

:50:07.:50:12.

perfectly. This might be a better one. Let us Jack. He did well.

:50:13.:50:19.

Morgan. A real chance. He has taken it. It is 1-1. Not a bad goal, Jack.

:50:20.:50:31.

Superb finish. I was saying that Linfield were 1-0 down, and early

:50:32.:50:36.

strike from Kyle Neill after about three minutes. What a great

:50:37.:50:42.

professional he was, Tony Gorman. How about that for a Finnish? Get in

:50:43.:50:50.

there, Morgan! Top drawer. Right off the sweet spot. Great strike, great

:50:51.:50:57.

finish. Chris, we know what it was like to score, what was it like to

:50:58.:51:02.

hear him commentate on it? In moments like that, they do not, long

:51:03.:51:07.

often, but it is always nice to hear the commentary and how Jackie

:51:08.:51:12.

described it. It was one of those ones in front of me and I just put

:51:13.:51:16.

my head down and smashed it and luckily I went into the net. His

:51:17.:51:20.

favourite goal of all time, here it is. Hamilton. There is a run from

:51:21.:51:31.

McCann and he will get there. He arrives. 1-0! Great finish from the

:51:32.:51:42.

big Scot. They are absolutely delirious. Glentoran are one up and

:51:43.:51:51.

what a goal it was. That is your most enjoyable, wide? Because I set

:51:52.:51:58.

it up. It was a great run from Tim McCann. You have told people that he

:51:59.:52:05.

is there, if he can get it across, he will finish it. It came true.

:52:06.:52:12.

What a finish. The lovely thing for him was that he had only been on the

:52:13.:52:16.

pitch as a substitute for six minutes and then that cross. Tim

:52:17.:52:21.

McCann, great move down the right. Great run, great cross and he buried

:52:22.:52:28.

it. What you made of the occasion, the first Irish Cup final to be

:52:29.:52:32.

played in this new resplendent stadium? I thought it was great

:52:33.:52:35.

right from the off. When I came onto the pitch earlier to see what it was

:52:36.:52:41.

like, with David Jeffrey, Michael commentator, we were talking to

:52:42.:52:44.

people like David Healy, but then the noise when we came out to near

:52:45.:52:49.

the commentary time, and the noise and the atmosphere... It is a lovely

:52:50.:52:57.

moment and one I will allow you to commentate, the Glenavon guys hold

:52:58.:53:01.

up a banner for Mark Farren. It was lovely, his widow was here, she led

:53:02.:53:10.

out the side. What a lovely thought. A lovely gesture by Ruxton and Gary

:53:11.:53:17.

Hamilton to do this for Mark. The applause was well after ten minutes

:53:18.:53:21.

because that was the number of Jersey, that was nice as well --

:53:22.:53:27.

Glenavon. That is the humane side of football that is often not recorded

:53:28.:53:31.

by the press and the media. Football does have a hard. There is his wife.

:53:32.:53:38.

She came on the coach, she was made to feel part of it and that is only

:53:39.:53:46.

right. Two years ago, led out Glenavon. He had been a great

:53:47.:53:50.

player, but above all, I did not know him that well, he was a great

:53:51.:53:56.

fellow, record goal-scorer, took over from Young Coyle at Derry City

:53:57.:54:00.

where he was a great player for them. There is Hamilton, stealing

:54:01.:54:08.

the manner. He stole the show. The names go on and on. You're making

:54:09.:54:14.

the point to David Jeffrey that the old bookmakers had Linfield as

:54:15.:54:17.

favourites. I could not believe it, I can believe that they were the

:54:18.:54:21.

favourites because there was a lot of moment and they were in good

:54:22.:54:26.

form, but they were 5-6 answer on but Glenavon were available at 3-1.

:54:27.:54:31.

There would be a lot of neutrals on that. I am not a gambler, but I

:54:32.:54:38.

think they would sack the people who put the odds together. That was a

:54:39.:54:45.

big prize. I can only assume it is down to Linfield being better

:54:46.:54:48.

supported and maybe they were looking at where most of the money

:54:49.:54:53.

would go to. I did say that I fancied Glenavon from the start.

:54:54.:54:57.

Today's game was a hard one to call but at 3-1, that was generous. David

:54:58.:55:04.

said, I know nothing about odds, but this game has to be even is!

:55:05.:55:11.

Glenavon, by the first 15 minutes, they kind of Boston. I thought, we

:55:12.:55:18.

must think about the losers and how David Healy will be feeling.

:55:19.:55:23.

Linfield desperate for a major trophy, for years tried, that is a

:55:24.:55:28.

long time for Linfield and it did not work out for them and Glenavon

:55:29.:55:33.

came here, I saw them in the semifinal, they came from a high and

:55:34.:55:37.

three times against this man's side who I thought could have done a

:55:38.:55:41.

league and cup double and Glenavon nature it did not happen. Linda will

:55:42.:55:47.

be getting jealous. A pertinent point about David Healy and let us

:55:48.:55:54.

look at the other way, the Blues without a league or a cup in four

:55:55.:56:01.

years, are we nearing crisis time, has he turned a corner, how

:56:02.:56:06.

important to all three of you that he brings fresh blood in in the

:56:07.:56:11.

summer period? I think it came in at a time, wanting to get off to a good

:56:12.:56:15.

start and David comes in, he has to feel his way into the club, get the

:56:16.:56:21.

players, have a good look at the players, what is available. He made

:56:22.:56:25.

a change early and that worked. They were nature meant a strong,

:56:26.:56:28.

tremendous run and I do not think they are far away. They pushed us

:56:29.:56:33.

really close, we probably edged it on the head-to-head games and that

:56:34.:56:37.

helped us push on. David knows what he leaves, he has a football guy, he

:56:38.:56:41.

has been everywhere, he is trawling the young players, he will be

:56:42.:56:46.

looking into the market down South, who brought in Ross Gaynor, a big

:56:47.:56:50.

success, he will have contacts, knows what he needs, Linfield are

:56:51.:56:55.

expected to win major championships and major trophies. They will want

:56:56.:56:59.

to do that as quickly as possible. Let us hope it happens. Let us pop

:57:00.:57:05.

down to Thomas who has a couple of guys who I think he might have a

:57:06.:57:12.

word or two to. They know Jackie Fullerton well. Gary Hamilton, what

:57:13.:57:17.

Jackie Norman stands out for you? I would like to buy Ken for one famous

:57:18.:57:20.

strip away with Northern Ireland when I think that was a drink ban on

:57:21.:57:24.

the plane on the way over and Jackie was sitting beside me and he got me

:57:25.:57:29.

a few fresh oranges but at the time he was slipping Volga into them. I

:57:30.:57:32.

would like to thank you for that and pines for everything you have done

:57:33.:57:37.

for me. He is a friend to the players and to the managers. He

:57:38.:57:41.

loves the local game. Within being an ex-player... Did he actually play

:57:42.:57:50.

football? So he says! He will be missed, he is a smashing character.

:57:51.:57:53.

He did well with all the players come before we began touring in the

:57:54.:57:57.

quarterfinal, he was in our dressing room and would not leave. I heard

:57:58.:58:02.

one of the BBC reporters, said Jackie is well hung, and one of them

:58:03.:58:08.

said, he should be. It is live, I will apologise for that. You give

:58:09.:58:15.

away your medal, tell us why. I had the worst night of my life trying to

:58:16.:58:19.

get to sleep, there had to be one person left-eyed and after talking

:58:20.:58:25.

to staff, we decided on Fabio, I was taking his place. I could not think

:58:26.:58:29.

about the game until after I spoke to him. He did not take it well, we

:58:30.:58:35.

did not expect and two. I thought it was a nice gesture, the very least I

:58:36.:58:39.

could do after leaving him out of the squad after such a good

:58:40.:58:42.

performance in the semifinal, it has really hurt me, that is the hard

:58:43.:58:45.

part of being a manager, especially when you play, it is difficult. He

:58:46.:58:52.

was OK after the game I understand it. Hopefully that will make up and

:58:53.:58:55.

he still has an Irish Cup medal. Thank you. On a personal level,

:58:56.:59:00.

Jackie has been helpful to be from the moment I walked into the BBC, he

:59:01.:59:05.

was that it is not television, it is show business and he has been so

:59:06.:59:09.

helpful from a commentary perspective, if I had questions, he

:59:10.:59:12.

was the first person I could speak to and to give you an idea of the

:59:13.:59:15.

scale of him and some of the friendships he has made, years ago I

:59:16.:59:19.

made a documentary in Manchester with Jonny Evans and the only reason

:59:20.:59:23.

that happened was because Jackie spoke to Alex Ferguson. I spoke to

:59:24.:59:30.

him in the BBC and that shows you, that is the scale of him, that is

:59:31.:59:34.

the way he is thought of, not just within the local game but in the

:59:35.:59:38.

world game, he can pick up the phone to the most successful manager,

:59:39.:59:41.

thank you for all your help, it has been a privilege and we continue to

:59:42.:59:45.

learn from you every day and there will only be one Jackie Fullerton.

:59:46.:59:53.

High praise indeed. I couldn't argue with that.

:59:54.:00:00.

You got the broad brush stroke there. Jack, I guess you are feeling

:00:01.:00:05.

a bit embarrassed. Is there a wee trickle of a tear in the eye there?

:00:06.:00:10.

No, I'm not embarrassed, they are speaking the truth! No, it's very

:00:11.:00:14.

humbling. The FA announced I was doing my last final before the game

:00:15.:00:18.

and there's a lot of people gave me a standing ovation. It's lovely and

:00:19.:00:23.

obviously it's lovely for your ego but also humbling as well. It's

:00:24.:00:27.

nice. Some people probably over the years couldn't stand the sight or

:00:28.:00:31.

sound of me, but I think I've captured the hearts of maybe a

:00:32.:00:35.

number of them over the years and that was a lovely reception today

:00:36.:00:38.

and I'll remember that. The fact my son was on at half time as well

:00:39.:00:42.

which I didn't know about, Darren, who writes for the Daily Mirror, I

:00:43.:00:45.

thought that was a present you were going to give me. That was the phone

:00:46.:00:52.

bleeping there, could someone ask Jackie please not to sings. We know

:00:53.:00:57.

you are not going to sing. I was on that flight when you furnished Gary

:00:58.:01:02.

Hamilton with the orange juice. We won't say who the manager was, but

:01:03.:01:06.

what we will say is, take a look at this. Jackie Fullerton's greatest

:01:07.:01:12.

hits. This is Jackie at his beloved

:01:13.:01:16.

Ballymena before the hip replacement. He's not been retired

:01:17.:01:20.

because of that, but that was him with a bit of help from his friends

:01:21.:01:25.

making it into the commentary box. You put one block out of position. I

:01:26.:01:32.

had the hip operation three months ago today really, well tomorrow.

:01:33.:01:37.

It's a great job, it really is. I could jump that fence now. Couldn't

:01:38.:01:42.

do anything with your tongue. No. Jackie's trip through the years -

:01:43.:01:45.

take a look! Oh... Not quite sure what was

:01:46.:02:07.

happening there. On the road with Bernie Fisher.

:02:08.:02:22.

Grey round hacing... Grey round. ... People say it's play acting. It's

:02:23.:02:28.

show birz. Who was that young man? That was you.

:02:29.:02:30.

You are still doing what you love? Yes. I came in in 1973 straight from

:02:31.:02:40.

winning the first title at Crusaders as a player and I went straight from

:02:41.:02:45.

football pitch to a TV studio and if you'd said I'd still be doing it 43

:02:46.:02:50.

years later, I may have laughed at you. But I've enjoyed it, Mark.

:02:51.:02:56.

There's been downs, you know, taken off Newsnight and losing programmes,

:02:57.:03:00.

but you get programmes back so it's a roller coaster and you learn to

:03:01.:03:04.

ride with the punches. It's part of the business. You were just giving

:03:05.:03:09.

someone else a chance! I'm honest, I was dumped.

:03:10.:03:15.

Sorry. I want to bring things full circle to today and I want you to

:03:16.:03:20.

talk us through the two goals because, I guess, as they are

:03:21.:03:22.

coming, you are thinking to yourself, this could be my moment.

:03:23.:03:26.

This is the first of them? This is good from Glenavon. Here's Bradley.

:03:27.:03:30.

He gets the cross in, what a good cross it is and what a finish that

:03:31.:03:34.

could be from Braniff. He's got four in the semi-final and he's now got

:03:35.:03:39.

the first goal in this final and how important that could be. And then

:03:40.:03:46.

the second one, Braniff, as we see, brilliant again. This was game over

:03:47.:03:51.

Jackie? It was. Yes. And there's the ball in. Through the legs of Matthew

:03:52.:04:01.

so you've got to feel sorry for the young defender in many ways. 2-0

:04:02.:04:06.

after the break. We have been working exceedingly hard, Thomas in

:04:07.:04:10.

particular, he's now pitch side with arguably Northern Ireland's most

:04:11.:04:13.

iconic footballer, possibly George Best best ahead of him, but in many

:04:14.:04:18.

people's opinion, David Healy is still the man? An important day for

:04:19.:04:24.

him? Yes, it was. He wanted to say a few words about Jackie Fullerton.

:04:25.:04:28.

First of all, hugely disappointing to lose the Cup Final but Jackie's

:04:29.:04:32.

been commentating on so many of your magical moments as a player. What

:04:33.:04:36.

can you say as him as a commentator and also a close friend? As you say,

:04:37.:04:42.

I would like to thank Jackie for his kind words throughout my career as a

:04:43.:04:46.

player. Unfortunately, I would have loved to give him a little send-off

:04:47.:04:51.

by us winning the trophy here. But he's a good friend, a close friend,

:04:52.:04:57.

an associate who I've built a trusting relationship with over the

:04:58.:05:01.

years. When he does put the mic down, I wish him the best. He's been

:05:02.:05:06.

synonymous in your career, was it a friendship that struck up instantly?

:05:07.:05:10.

Over time. You have to build up a relationship with players, but with

:05:11.:05:15.

Jackie, for the length of time I've never him, he's been a good friend,

:05:16.:05:19.

I wish him well. Your thoughts on the game finally? Disappointed for

:05:20.:05:24.

the fans today. Sometimes when you lose your game, I'm disappointed

:05:25.:05:27.

with the players' performance as everything else, disappointed for

:05:28.:05:31.

the fans today as they turned out in huge numbers and late on in the

:05:32.:05:34.

second half, I don't think we gave it the fight that I was hoping for

:05:35.:05:39.

today. Not hoping, but expecting. We didn't have that. Thank you very

:05:40.:05:42.

much. Easy to come out and speak to the press when you win but it's not

:05:43.:05:49.

your day, so thank you very much. Mark, when you think of Jackie

:05:50.:05:54.

Fullerton, you think of him saying "Healy! ". He wants to be you,

:05:55.:06:00.

Jackie. It sure happened for him in his career, but not today? I thank

:06:01.:06:05.

him for saying those nice words. The boys who've played in Cup Finals,

:06:06.:06:08.

you can see the disappointment on his face there, it took a lot for

:06:09.:06:13.

him to come out and do that and I'm very proud that he did it for me and

:06:14.:06:19.

that's lovely because he is torn up, he's gutted, he's devastated at

:06:20.:06:23.

losing a game. When they were favourites, they had the momentum,

:06:24.:06:28.

they had the form and they haven't really performed. I think it's fair

:06:29.:06:31.

to say that. They haven't performed on the day and they've lost it. Can

:06:32.:06:35.

you believe it? We have come to the end of our time and your time. We

:06:36.:06:39.

thank you immensely for your contribution to the BBC. Jackie

:06:40.:06:44.

Fuller tonne, the one and only. Midweek for you, Tuesday evening,

:07:04.:07:06.

:07:07.:07:14.

on the BBC. Well, that is just about it from BBC NI sport congratulations

:07:15.:07:19.

to the Northern Irish cup winners for a seventh time from Chris,

:07:20.:07:23.

Stephen and Jackie and from me, thanks for your company, bye-bye.

Enjoy your summer.
