A rare and frank and honest assessment from Mick McCarthy. Plus | :00:07. | :00:16.
the last manager to take thdm to the Premier League joins us in the | :00:17. | :00:17.
studio. After 12 long years, five m`nagers, | :00:18. | :00:35.
and financial straits, could Ipswich town be driving towards the Premier | :00:36. | :00:39.
League? The gaffer tells it straight. You could finish 02th if | :00:40. | :00:46.
you're not careful. If it is drama and excitement after, you'vd come to | :00:47. | :00:50.
the right place. Absolutely incredible goal! The story of not | :00:51. | :00:56.
one but two stunning fightb`cks some cracking goals. And chilling into | :00:57. | :01:02.
the fight for Premier Leagud survival, we are in Norwich City as | :01:03. | :01:08.
the fans take to the airwavds. Jamie, are you happy? I am happy. He | :01:09. | :01:16.
was so superb, I don't care what anybody says. | :01:17. | :01:20.
Hello, good evening. Good to have you with us. We'll have highlights | :01:21. | :01:23.
from tonight's promotion cl`sh at Roots Hall as Southend look to | :01:24. | :01:26.
return to the play`off placds in League Two against Oxford btt onto | :01:27. | :01:30.
the introductions. And joinhng Paul McVeigh tonight, the man who knows | :01:31. | :01:34.
what it's like to manage Ipswich in the Premier League, George Burley. | :01:35. | :01:44.
Great to have you with us. Xou are a regular at Portman Road. I loved | :01:45. | :01:52.
down to where my family is. My home games have been there. It is great. | :01:53. | :01:57.
Still a lot of old faces. I've enjoyed the games as well. Let's | :01:58. | :02:02.
start with that amazing victory against Brighton. A possibld turning | :02:03. | :02:09.
point. Now you've been taking a look at that game. In the whole context, | :02:10. | :02:13.
playing Brighton, so close hn the leak, this could be huge for | :02:14. | :02:20.
Ipswich. It was such an good victory down there at the MX stadiul. You | :02:21. | :02:26.
think they were up against ht. They needed to get the three points. The | :02:27. | :02:30.
only thing is that Brighton got off to a good start. So, Ipswich were on | :02:31. | :02:37.
the back foot, even when thdy beat them early on in the season. It was | :02:38. | :02:43.
a poor start from Ipswich. But then when you see Tommy Smith popping up, | :02:44. | :02:47.
he scored last weekend, and he scored again. He has done wdll. | :02:48. | :02:54.
Ipswich are dangerous from set plays. They have big players. And | :02:55. | :02:58.
Tommy Smith has been excepthonal this season, he has much shored as a | :02:59. | :03:05.
centre half. They have the best centre halves in the Championship. | :03:06. | :03:09.
If you look at the goals, sdt play has been keen. These little feet | :03:10. | :03:16.
from John Williams on the ldft`hand side. Whenever Aaron Murphy popped | :03:17. | :03:21.
up, it was a goal. It shows how well they are doing. Darby, Notthngham | :03:22. | :03:27.
Forest, McCarthy knows now whether his team have got it or not. I think | :03:28. | :03:33.
at the moment it is still there for them. They've been up and down all | :03:34. | :03:40.
season. Near the top six. Only five points off the top six. Bec`use of | :03:41. | :03:47.
that women, down at Brighton, it has reduced the gap. So, big wedk for | :03:48. | :03:56.
Ipswich. So, big week for Ipswich, but the very fact Town are | :03:57. | :03:58.
contemplating the play`offs is testimony to the job Mick McCarthy | :03:59. | :04:02.
has done in little over a ydar at Portman Road. So how does hd reflect | :04:03. | :04:05.
on the progress during his time in charge? Tom Williams dug out his | :04:06. | :04:09.
golf clubs to take in a round with the gaffer and his players. | :04:10. | :04:14.
A world away from the presstres of a play`off race Ipswich town's players | :04:15. | :04:17.
and management team enjoy a little downtime. Not far away, just a few | :04:18. | :04:21.
miles, in fact, for the club's annual golf day, a chance to unwind, | :04:22. | :04:25.
take stock and reflect on the fair way they've come. Did you anticipate | :04:26. | :04:31.
16 months after arriving yot'd have your team pushing for the play`offs? | :04:32. | :04:38.
I don't know. I didn't. That is like one of those retrospective | :04:39. | :04:41.
questions. I could look back and think, did I think that? I'll tell | :04:42. | :04:44.
you what I thought when I c`me 6 months ago, make sure you h`ve | :04:45. | :04:48.
enough points to stay in thd league. I wasn't considering what I was | :04:49. | :04:51.
going to be doing the following season. That was the remit. At the | :04:52. | :04:54.
start of this season, I thotght I put a good squad together. H thought | :04:55. | :04:57.
we'd got a chance. And we still have. We've got to make surd we stay | :04:58. | :05:03.
there because we could finish.. We could still finish in the top six | :05:04. | :05:07.
but if you are that close, xou could finish 12th if you're not c`reful, | :05:08. | :05:10.
or even further down becausd we have some tough games coming up. So, what | :05:11. | :05:13.
is it like playing for Mick McCarthy? You know... He's ` very | :05:14. | :05:19.
honest manager. He gets the best out of his players. Everyone enjoys | :05:20. | :05:25.
playing for him. That's the thing. As a player, I've worked under a few | :05:26. | :05:30.
managers before. And, you know, one thing you respect is honestx. He is | :05:31. | :05:33.
straight down the middle. You know where you stand with him. Two out of | :05:34. | :05:35.
two so far. Go on, then! I tell you what, I want to be on | :05:36. | :05:44.
your team today! Ipswich's rise under McCarthy is impressivd given | :05:45. | :05:47.
he is working under a tightdr budget. The last set of accounts | :05:48. | :05:52.
showed the club's debts had risen to over ?80 million. Although `nnual | :05:53. | :05:56.
losses are down to under ?10 million. But some way to go to break | :05:57. | :06:00.
even under new financial FahrPlay rules. Ipswich are currentlx the | :06:01. | :06:07.
Championship's longest servhng team. 12 successive seasons in thhs | :06:08. | :06:10.
division. All eyes are on this man to make the difference. If xou'd had | :06:11. | :06:15.
a bit more money available this year, do you think that would have | :06:16. | :06:17.
made a difference? But it made a difference? But it w`sn't. I | :06:18. | :06:22.
know what my remit is. That's the gig, that's the job I've got. It's | :06:23. | :06:26.
funny. People say we haven't spent anything. I know Marcus has put five | :06:27. | :06:30.
million quid of his own dough into just to keeping us where we are And | :06:31. | :06:35.
we are adhering to financial FairPlay. I'm not saying evdrybody | :06:36. | :06:39.
else is. I'm certain not evdrybody else is. And, so, within those | :06:40. | :06:44.
parameters, we've done well. I get frustrated at times, and we could've | :06:45. | :06:47.
done a little bit better, btt it is not down to the funding bec`use I | :06:48. | :06:51.
knew what it was. You mention financial FairPlay. Is that why | :06:52. | :07:02.
things have been cut back a bit Or is it the owner wanting to keep a | :07:03. | :07:06.
lid on things? Or a bit of both Listen, financial FairPlay hs there | :07:07. | :07:08.
for everybody supposedly to adhere to. | :07:09. | :07:09.
lid on things? Or a bit of both Listen, financial FairPlay Pueens | :07:10. | :07:11.
Park Rangers can have a hugd fine and a few others, I'd like to see it | :07:12. | :07:15.
and I want to see who will take the money. And where it is going. We are | :07:16. | :07:18.
sticking to it. Within that, we ve done really, really well. At 23 | :07:19. | :07:21.
Tommy Smith is already conshdered one of town's senior pros. Ht's a | :07:22. | :07:29.
good start. If you get 17 of those, you'll be laughing. With McCarthy in | :07:30. | :07:31.
charge, he's confident Ipswhch are on course to challenge for honours. | :07:32. | :07:37.
Great strike. First and fordmost, he addressed the defensive sidd of | :07:38. | :07:42.
things. We were leaking far too many goals. And then he has shordd things | :07:43. | :07:47.
up. That's the base for any successful team. We need th`t solid | :07:48. | :07:51.
base to build from. And then adding the players of various qualhty. `` | :07:52. | :07:59.
of Berra's quality. McGoldrhck, all the players we got on free transfers | :08:00. | :08:02.
have been very good for us. And I think that shows his guile hn the | :08:03. | :08:05.
transfer market as well. Kidron Dyer's now retired from football, | :08:06. | :08:08.
meaning more time for golf. And to watch his hometown club. He has | :08:09. | :08:12.
admired the progress Mick h`s made. I hope you got that! He knows the | :08:13. | :08:17.
division. He knows how to gdt out of this division. And he's madd Ipswich | :08:18. | :08:21.
tough to beat. Before him, there was no structure to the team. Jtst | :08:22. | :08:30.
basically go out there and play Go and play attractive football, but | :08:31. | :08:33.
that wasn't the case. He has come in, everyone knows their jobs, | :08:34. | :08:37.
everyone works 110%. And th`t has obviously resulted in great results. | :08:38. | :08:43.
If it doesn't happen this ydar, do you think you'll be under more | :08:44. | :08:45.
pressure next year to delivdr promotion? Listen, the longdr you're | :08:46. | :08:50.
in the job, the more pressure becomes. I don't worry about that. I | :08:51. | :08:56.
will do my job under whatevdr circumstances I am doing it. I think | :08:57. | :09:03.
what people underestimate is the amount of pressure I put on myself. | :09:04. | :09:06.
I get people patting me on the back saying, you're doing a good job I'm | :09:07. | :09:10.
not happy with that, the fact we might just miss out on play`offs. I | :09:11. | :09:13.
think we've got a chance thhs year, and still have, to get into those | :09:14. | :09:19.
play`off spots. Listen, if H don't think I can get there, therd's no | :09:20. | :09:22.
point in me being here. If Larcus doesn't think he could get to the | :09:23. | :09:25.
Premier League, I don't think he'd really want to be here eithdr. So, | :09:26. | :09:29.
we are still harbouring ambhtions of doing that. So we will conthnue to | :09:30. | :09:38.
try to improve. Mick McCarthy ending that report. George Burley, or has | :09:39. | :09:42.
it gone wrong for Ipswich in the past kid? If you're a fan, xou will | :09:43. | :09:46.
have been left extremely frtstrated, angry at times by the performance of | :09:47. | :09:53.
the club. No doubt that in the last 8`10 years, the club haven't been | :09:54. | :09:56.
performing very well, as far as getting to the top of the | :09:57. | :10:00.
Championship, getting to thd Premier League. There has been a lot of | :10:01. | :10:04.
money invested, and sometimds that happens. New managers come, they | :10:05. | :10:09.
bring new players in, and the big thing is we are not `` we are not | :10:10. | :10:17.
bringing young players in. When I was managing at Ipswich, we managed | :10:18. | :10:21.
to get young players, and that hasn't happened. It's not e`sy. You | :10:22. | :10:26.
need a few breaks. Before Mhck arrived, they were battling against | :10:27. | :10:31.
relegation. And you don't expect that from that club. In the glory | :10:32. | :10:34.
days when they were fifth in the Premier League, playing in Durope, | :10:35. | :10:39.
did you feel under pressure to bring in staff to consolidate Ipswich in | :10:40. | :10:43.
the Premier League? I suppose if you look back at your time, would you | :10:44. | :10:47.
have done anything differently? Yeah, I think we got play`offs, got | :10:48. | :10:53.
promoted, we brought through young players, Kieron Dyer, all of them, | :10:54. | :10:59.
and that was a nucleus of the team. So we had the Premiership there We | :11:00. | :11:05.
added one more player when we got promoted. We finished fifth, the | :11:06. | :11:12.
best for any club after prolotion. The second season, we thought we'd | :11:13. | :11:15.
better do better, and that hs where we went wrong. We brought some | :11:16. | :11:21.
foreign players in. It didn't work out. Sometimes, when you lose that, | :11:22. | :11:27.
your team goes. We had Mick McCarthy talking about financial fair play | :11:28. | :11:30.
which we should spell out. Clubs have three years to break even. They | :11:31. | :11:35.
don't have any weight restrhctions on the Championship, but how do they | :11:36. | :11:40.
compete if they are making ` loss? I suppose there are other clubs in the | :11:41. | :11:47.
Championship, like QPR with such a massive wage bill. And I thhnk QPR | :11:48. | :11:53.
have got a similar jet as Dortmund. That is what Ipswich are up against. | :11:54. | :11:58.
The fact that Mick has them anywhere up the top... Why hasn't worked for | :11:59. | :12:05.
so many years? They have had huge amounts of money thrust at them | :12:06. | :12:09.
That is football. Sometimes you move to a new club, change things, it | :12:10. | :12:14.
doesn't work out. You can blame the manager, the players, but | :12:15. | :12:20.
expectations are higher. As mixers, it is pressure and got deal with it. | :12:21. | :12:27.
So, what is the chance for Lick this season? I think Mick is frank and | :12:28. | :12:35.
honest. He is organised. Kidron Dyer said that. The boy Berra saxs he | :12:36. | :12:40.
brings the best out of people, and that is what you've got to do. They | :12:41. | :12:46.
are solid, hard to beat, and he s improving players, like the boy | :12:47. | :12:50.
Murphy, who is playing his best football in his career. So, in the | :12:51. | :12:54.
Championship, as long as yot can work in your restraint. At the end | :12:55. | :12:58.
of the day, as Mick says, you've got to try to bring the best out of | :12:59. | :13:04.
people. They have a real ch`nce of finishing in the top six. | :13:05. | :13:06.
Plenty still to come. We've news of Southend's League Two promotion | :13:07. | :13:09.
clash against Oxford at Roots Hall. Plus it's the cult show for Norwich | :13:10. | :13:14.
City fans. We're behind the scenes at Canary Call on match day. Who is | :13:15. | :13:20.
the hero? I am looking for Snodgrass. | :13:21. | :13:23.
But next, League One, and a weekend of extraordinary comebacks with | :13:24. | :13:25.
arguably the fightback of the weekend anywhere coming at the Lamax | :13:26. | :13:29.
Stadium. Great news for MK Dons not so for Stevenage. Let's relhve the | :13:30. | :13:32.
drama now witnessed by BBC Three Counties Radio. | :13:33. | :13:38.
Alan Smith returns it. John Ashton again will head it forward. Freeman | :13:39. | :13:47.
gets a touch. Now Stevenage can break forward. Zoko trying to flick | :13:48. | :13:50.
it in. Parrett with the shot! That beats the goalkeeper on the | :13:51. | :13:53.
right`hand post. Stevenage take the lead. Parrett with his first goal in | :13:54. | :13:59.
a Stevenage shirt. And that was well worked by Stevenage. Corner, floated | :14:00. | :14:08.
high, this one. The header didn't come. It's a | :14:09. | :14:11.
penalty! Akins against David Martin. Right footed, here it comes. Shoots | :14:12. | :14:15.
and scores! And Stevenage t`ke a 2`goal lead here at the Lam`x | :14:16. | :14:22.
Stadium. Headed on, it is put in the back of | :14:23. | :14:27.
the net. It was a goal, a great touch by Lewington. And MK Dons have | :14:28. | :14:33.
got a goal back. Reeves now. Long`range... What a goal! | :14:34. | :14:39.
Absolutely incredible from Reeves. Only he could have seen that. 3 | :14:40. | :14:43.
yards out, left` foot shot, it's the inside of the post, and MK Dons have | :14:44. | :14:50.
gone level. What a goal. Here is Bowditch. Bowditch floats it across. | :14:51. | :14:53.
It's a header down by Lewington Lewington scores for MK Dons! The MK | :14:54. | :14:56.
Dons' captain from three yards out has finished an amazing comdback for | :14:57. | :15:02.
Milton Keynes Dons. Stevenage 2`3 MK Dons. | :15:03. | :15:08.
A terrific match, some terrhfic commentary from the boys on BBC 3CR, | :15:09. | :15:11.
in seriously testing condithons as well. Paul, a hugely import`nt | :15:12. | :15:17.
victory for Karl Robinson's side. Yes, it certainly was. And when you | :15:18. | :15:25.
look at the fact they were 2`0 down until the 80th minute, then to score | :15:26. | :15:29.
three goals in the last ten min it really was an outstanding comeback, | :15:30. | :15:31.
especially after the defeat against local rivals Peterborough l`st | :15:32. | :15:33.
weekend. There are only thrde points difference between MK Dons `nd Posh, | :15:34. | :15:37.
so they are still desperate to get into the top six. Just lookhng at | :15:38. | :15:42.
the replay, it is an amazing strike. You have to have serious pltck as a | :15:43. | :15:46.
team to still think you're hn it when you are away from home. Yeah, | :15:47. | :15:49.
it is important you keep gohng. You get one goal, you can get two or | :15:50. | :15:53.
three. All of a sudden, when the opposition concedes one thex go on | :15:54. | :15:57.
the back foot and that shows you, if you keep going right to the end it | :15:58. | :16:00.
is amazing how many goals are scored in the last five or ten minttes of a | :16:01. | :16:03.
match. There are always quite a few. And the reason Peterborough are now | :16:04. | :16:11.
looking so nervous is because of the huge setback for them at London Road | :16:12. | :16:14.
against Rotherham. Just the one goal, Paul, but a hugely important | :16:15. | :16:17.
one. Yeah, and I think that is the problem, especially when yot see | :16:18. | :16:20.
someone of the like of Kier`n Agard coming back against his old team. | :16:21. | :16:24.
Peterborough are always good. They have so many goals in them. They | :16:25. | :16:29.
didn't get one on Saturday, but they always have with Assombalonga, who | :16:30. | :16:32.
we talked about last week, xou have always got a chance. Connor | :16:33. | :16:35.
Washington, a lovely little bit of skill here. And Ajose pulling off a | :16:36. | :16:40.
good shot, good save by the keeper. This is what Peterborough are all | :16:41. | :16:44.
about going forward. Unforttnately, when you see this side, George, | :16:45. | :16:47.
giving away the penalty by Ben Nugent, it's just a shame for them. | :16:48. | :16:50.
Yes, I think Peterborough are one of these sides that would be great to | :16:51. | :16:54.
watch as a spectator becausd you're always going to get goals. | :16:55. | :16:56.
Unfortunately, sometimes, they concede too many. They are `lways an | :16:57. | :16:59.
exciting team. I like the w`y they play. They get the ball down, they | :17:00. | :17:03.
pass it early, they move quhckly. They are always creating ch`nces. | :17:04. | :17:06.
You need a little bit of luck. It could have gone either way that | :17:07. | :17:08.
game, but, unfortunately, it went against them. And, crucial that | :17:09. | :17:11.
Peterborough get promoted bdcause, as Barry Fry told us last wdek, if | :17:12. | :17:14.
they don't, they could face a transfer embargo next year. Well, | :17:15. | :17:17.
I'm sure they are geared to get back into the Championship, becatse they | :17:18. | :17:20.
certainly have a lot of good players. Everybody has got to set | :17:21. | :17:23.
their own stall. It could bd very serious if they don't get promoted. | :17:24. | :17:27.
To another of George's old teams, Colchester, next. Quite a comeback | :17:28. | :17:31.
from Joe Dunne's side against Bristol City. George, you mtst have | :17:32. | :17:35.
been hugely impressed with how Joe Dunne is managing things at | :17:36. | :17:37.
Colchester. Yeah, I think they have set their stall out. They are going | :17:38. | :17:41.
to bring young players throtgh. Try, maybe, to establish themselves in | :17:42. | :17:47.
the league and develop playdrs. They have been a little bit up and | :17:48. | :17:50.
down this season, but they have played some good football and they | :17:51. | :17:54.
have done well to come back in this game. Well, I was at the gale, | :17:55. | :17:58.
Colchester United against Shrewsbury, and they did re`lly well | :17:59. | :18:02.
to get the victory. It wasn't the best performance, but it dodsn't | :18:03. | :18:05.
really matter at this stage of the season. When you see this khnd of | :18:06. | :18:08.
defending... It is just such an easy finish by Wagstaff. There is no | :18:09. | :18:13.
communication between the ddfenders. But this is what Joe Dunne can bring | :18:14. | :18:16.
to the table, because of thd fact they have got that resolve, they've | :18:17. | :18:19.
got the guts and determinathon. Gavin Massey doing really wdll to | :18:20. | :18:22.
get on the end of Marcus Be`n's cross. As soon as you get that back, | :18:23. | :18:27.
very similar to what we saw with MK Dons, as soon as you go 2`0 down, | :18:28. | :18:30.
then you get the one back, then Freddie Sears, back after injury, | :18:31. | :18:37.
what a strike that is! A massive goal in the context of the season, | :18:38. | :18:41.
George? Yes, well, they don't want to get dragged down any further | :18:42. | :18:43.
Then the pressure really gets on. It's great to see them in the new | :18:44. | :18:47.
stadium. It's just a shame there are not more people going to watch them, | :18:48. | :18:50.
because, actually, they havdn't got any more numbers. Usually, when a | :18:51. | :18:54.
club goes to a new stadium there is a big lift, like Brighton got that. | :18:55. | :18:57.
New stadium, bigger crowds. Maybe they deserve a few more people going | :18:58. | :19:02.
to watch them. Well, let's have a look at the | :19:03. | :19:06.
bottom of League One. From Stevenage upwards, nine teams separatdd by | :19:07. | :19:10.
just six points. It is congdsted, isn't it? Well, Stevenage, they must | :19:11. | :19:14.
be absolutely devastated th`t they haven't won that game on Saturday. | :19:15. | :19:18.
That win would have taken them up to 40 points and that would have taken | :19:19. | :19:22.
them out of the relegation zone Considering, it was only a lonth ago | :19:23. | :19:25.
they were virtually rock bottom So, the fact that they got so close to | :19:26. | :19:29.
getting the three points ag`inst MK Dons, they must be gutted. @ busy | :19:30. | :19:35.
week to come when you look `t the fixtures. Coverage on your BBC local | :19:36. | :19:38.
radio station across the wedk and the weekend. MK Dons against | :19:39. | :19:40.
Chillingham, Preston against Peterborough, Wolverhampton play | :19:41. | :19:41.
Colchester. Stevenage play Coventry on Wednesday. | :19:42. | :19:50.
These games are coming thick and fast at the moment, George. Yes | :19:51. | :19:54.
I'll will be there on Tuesd`y night at Portman Road. Derby are playing | :19:55. | :19:57.
Ipswich ` that's the one I'l interested in. In the Footb`ll | :19:58. | :20:03.
League, you have so many gales. At this stage, points are so crucial. | :20:04. | :20:08.
Getting a draw when you are behind, or just nicking a win makes such a | :20:09. | :20:15.
big difference. Well, Barry Fry called it the 16`pointer for Norwich | :20:16. | :20:20.
against Sunderland on Saturday. The 2`0 win would definitely have helped | :20:21. | :20:23.
calm the nerves of the fans leaving Carrow Road, many of whom hdad | :20:24. | :20:26.
straight to the phones to C`nary Call on Radio Norfolk. Paul is a | :20:27. | :20:29.
regular in those parts and he takes up the story. | :20:30. | :20:32.
Well, here's a good`looking couple! You might recognise the guy on the | :20:33. | :20:38.
right. A little bit younger, then. The guy on the left, you might | :20:39. | :20:41.
recognise his voice, but possibly not his face, especially for those | :20:42. | :20:44.
outside of Norfolk. Let's go and investigate. | :20:45. | :20:50.
Here he is, Rob Butler, my Radio Norfolk colleague. Rob, how you | :20:51. | :20:53.
doing? I'm all right. You'rd looking very smart. One half of McVdigh and | :20:54. | :20:57.
Butler. Two`thirds of McVeigh and Butler, two`thirds! Our Radho | :20:58. | :21:00.
Norfolk show, every Thursdax night. Rob, you're in doing your fhnal | :21:01. | :21:03.
preparations for the game. Big game against Sunderland today for | :21:04. | :21:06.
Norwich. Huge. So, what do xou normally do on a match day? Well, I | :21:07. | :21:10.
try and get ready in the normal way that any football fan would. I go | :21:11. | :21:15.
and have a pint, maybe a half, with a couple of my mates, have ` chat | :21:16. | :21:19.
with them, get a few vox pops with the fans and just be ready for what | :21:20. | :21:23.
Canary Call is going to throw at us. The game is what people are going to | :21:24. | :21:26.
talk about, but, whatever h`ppens, people will have a good moan and I | :21:27. | :21:30.
just want to be ready to fidld those calls. | :21:31. | :21:32.
We need a hero today. Who do you reckon? I'm looking at Snodgrass. | :21:33. | :21:35.
Sometimes I think the fans get at him, but you can't fault thd bloke | :21:36. | :21:39.
for effort. I think if someone is going to pull their socks up and | :21:40. | :21:42.
really drag us over the lind today, it will be him. | :21:43. | :21:45.
OK, well, that's enough of the talking. We are going to go down to | :21:46. | :21:47.
Carrow Road. An early cross from Olsson. He can't | :21:48. | :21:53.
get there. There's the goal for Norwich City! It was put on a plate | :21:54. | :21:55.
for Robert Snodgrass to score. What a shot from Tettey! Tettey | :21:56. | :22:03.
What a goal! Tettey volleys the ball in from 25 yards! An unbelidvable | :22:04. | :22:09.
strike. Norwich two, Sunderland zero. | :22:10. | :22:14.
That is a great win for Norwich Let's see what the fans havd to say | :22:15. | :22:16.
about it. Welcome back to Carrow Road. We are | :22:17. | :22:20.
here for your Canary Call. With me is Greg Downs. We're going to go | :22:21. | :22:23.
straight to the phone lines and get our first caller. It's Dennhs. You | :22:24. | :22:32.
are through to Greg. Hello, Dennis. Great result. Very relieved, I have | :22:33. | :22:36.
to say, along with 25,000 other supporters in the stadium. | :22:37. | :22:40.
Jamie, you going to have a loan or are you happy? I am very happy. To | :22:41. | :22:46.
be honest, I think Wes Hool`han has been thoroughly missed by us | :22:47. | :22:48.
throughout the season. He should have played a few more games. He was | :22:49. | :22:51.
awesome today. Today, his workrate was there. I think maybe coling back | :22:52. | :23:00.
into the team, he nicked a few balls of their midfield. | :23:01. | :23:04.
What a brilliant game Elmander had! He was so superb. I don't c`re what | :23:05. | :23:07.
anybody says, I thought it was brilliant. | :23:08. | :23:11.
I thought that was as good ` performance as I have seen for a | :23:12. | :23:14.
long, long time. As always, thank you very mtch Greg | :23:15. | :23:18.
Downs, always good on Canarx Call. It's been a great day for Norwich | :23:19. | :23:21.
City. Yes, a great day, great goal. Let's | :23:22. | :23:26.
look at how differently Norwich are playing. The goal aside, how | :23:27. | :23:32.
differently were Norwich pl`ying? Well, they did do really well. I saw | :23:33. | :23:36.
them recently against Stoke and it wasn't one for the scrapbook. Canary | :23:37. | :23:39.
Call is not always the most positive place in the world, but the fact | :23:40. | :23:42.
when you get that 2`0 win, ht was just such a good victory. The fact | :23:43. | :23:46.
that all five at the bottom of the table all lost, and Norwich got that | :23:47. | :23:50.
win was crucial for them. Home form is always key. When you're playing | :23:51. | :23:54.
against teams in your vicinhty, it is even more crucial. Norwich up to | :23:55. | :24:02.
13th. Seven points away, with Swansea next week. We know the | :24:03. | :24:08.
run`in is going to be reallx tough for them. For me, them being in the | :24:09. | :24:12.
Premiership, you read about all that and Chris being under presstre. They | :24:13. | :24:14.
are in the Premiership, Norwich fans! I wish we were! I would be | :24:15. | :24:18.
glad! You have Robert Snodgrass as a player. I remember him playhng for | :24:19. | :24:21.
Livingston Reserves when I was at Hearts and watching him and | :24:22. | :24:28.
thinking, this boy... I tridd to get him into the Scottish squad. He is a | :24:29. | :24:32.
really good buy for them. From the Premier League to League | :24:33. | :24:35.
Two next and Northampton's fight to escape the relegation from the | :24:36. | :24:37.
Football League continued against Mansfield. 1`1 it finished. Eight | :24:38. | :24:41.
games left. Paul, what will it boil down to for The Cobblers, do you | :24:42. | :24:45.
think? You've got to say thdy are giving themselves every chance. You | :24:46. | :24:47.
see Emile Sinclair here putting the ball across. At least he's put it | :24:48. | :24:51.
into the danger area. David Wright, unfortunately for Morecambe, putting | :24:52. | :24:54.
the ball into his own goal. At least they have a great chance, jtst | :24:55. | :24:57.
purely for their run of forl. What a finish that is from Padraig Amond. | :24:58. | :25:00.
Such a great finish into thd top corner. The fact that they `re still | :25:01. | :25:05.
putting the run together. This was a good save, but Emile Sinclahr once | :25:06. | :25:08.
again getting into the thick of the action. He could have taken all | :25:09. | :25:11.
three points. That would have been crucial for Northampton. | :25:12. | :25:14.
Considering, George, what is coming up for Chris Wilder, the run he has | :25:15. | :25:17.
put together is extraordinary. Wimbledon next for The Cobblers | :25:18. | :25:21.
Yes, some tough games. I thhnk everybody was surprised that Chris | :25:22. | :25:24.
left Oxford to go to Northalpton. The potential is there. It hs very | :25:25. | :25:28.
important they stay in the league. They don't want to be dropphng out | :25:29. | :25:31.
of it. They are giving it a good fight and they are hanging hn there. | :25:32. | :25:35.
With the spirit they have shown they have a good chance of staying | :25:36. | :25:40.
up. Well, it's been a miserable run of | :25:41. | :25:44.
form for Southend. They havd gone 12 league matches without a win and | :25:45. | :25:46.
have fallen out of the play`offs. Tonight, they could climb b`ck into | :25:47. | :25:50.
the top six with a win against promotion rivals Oxford. Kevin Piper | :25:51. | :25:58.
watched this one. Having stepped out of the play`offs | :25:59. | :26:02.
after back`to`back goalless draws, the promotion challenge frol | :26:03. | :26:07.
Southend needed a lift tonight. They got off to a perfect start `fter a | :26:08. | :26:11.
goal with just `` after just nine minutes. Will at once and the | :26:12. | :26:13.
scorer. This speed of Jamar Loza because | :26:14. | :26:31.
Oxford problems night. He w`s very much involved when Southend doubled | :26:32. | :26:37.
their advantage. The keeper penalised for bringing down Jamar | :26:38. | :26:44.
Loza. Lee Barnard scored thd penalty. Southend United looked to | :26:45. | :26:49.
be on the way to ending that winless run. There was a scare from a corner | :26:50. | :26:58.
just before half`time. Hearst was very much in the thick of the action | :26:59. | :27:04.
in the second half. Good effort just over. Hearst was turning the | :27:05. | :27:15.
defenders Inside Out. His shot just pushed over by Clark. From the | :27:16. | :27:19.
corner, John Egan with a he`der which again Ryan Clark somehow | :27:20. | :27:25.
managed to keep it. Then, straight out of the Wayne Rooney book of long | :27:26. | :27:32.
shots, Leonard tried his luck from just inside his own half. Southend | :27:33. | :27:36.
preserve the third, and that eventually came, courtesy of Jamar | :27:37. | :27:48.
Loza. Great finish by the striker. 3`0, South and up to seventh and | :27:49. | :27:54.
back into the play`offs in style. Before we go, just time to let you | :27:55. | :27:58.
know what's coming up next week s programme. We will have a special | :27:59. | :28:01.
investigation into the statd of the grassroots game in this reghon. | :28:02. | :28:03.
Finally, our congratulations to Cambridge as they celebrate their | :28:04. | :28:06.
success over Gosport in the Vase yesterday at Wembley. We'll be | :28:07. | :28:09.
hoping Peterborough make it two in a row in JPT final against | :28:10. | :28:11.
Chesterfield. That's it for this week. My thanks to Paul McVdigh and | :28:12. | :28:15.
to George Burley. Please kedp in touch via Twitter and Facebook, | :28:16. | :28:17.
particularly Ipswich fans and what you think about what you've seen | :28:18. | :28:20.
tonight. We'll read out somd of the best next week. Thanks for watching | :28:21. | :28:22.
and goodbye. | :28:23. | :28:31. |
