Good evening. This man here has won promotion with every team hd's | :00:00. | :00:10.
managed, except one ` the club he's currently with. Preston man`ger | :00:11. | :00:13.
Simon Grayson is here tonight to tell us whether that stat is about | :00:14. | :00:15.
to change. Coming up in the next half hour | :00:16. | :00:32.
Famous for all the wrong re`sons ` Tranmere's Joe Thompson on his fight | :00:33. | :00:37.
with cancer and his comeback plans. With the competitive nature, I would | :00:38. | :00:41.
like to make sure that I'm back within the year and that's ` sense | :00:42. | :00:44.
of achievement. Piling on the promotion pressure ` | :00:45. | :00:47.
the Fleetwood chairman's rallying call for the run`in. We'll do | :00:48. | :00:54.
everything we can to ensure we can achieve promotion this season. | :00:55. | :00:59.
And just what was the answer that caused One on One's very first | :01:00. | :01:00.
walk`out? 25`year`old midfielder Joe Thompson | :01:01. | :01:10.
began his career at Rochdald, his home town club. Over seven seasons, | :01:11. | :01:16.
he made more than 150 appearances, this being his last league goal | :01:17. | :01:19.
before signing for Tranmere two years ago, where's he's madd quite | :01:20. | :01:24.
an impression. But last Novdmber, Joe was diagnosed with a rare form | :01:25. | :01:27.
of cancer, a type of Hodgkin lymphoma. He's now juggling six | :01:28. | :01:32.
months of chemotherapy with being a dad and a charity fundraiser. | :01:33. | :01:37.
and his partner Chantelle s`y once the cancer is beaten, the rdst of | :01:38. | :01:40.
his life will be a breeze. They ve been speaking to Late Kick Off's | :01:41. | :01:44.
Alex Worsick. Yeah, it's bedn intense, but it's been in w`ves | :01:45. | :01:48.
Basically, when I have the chemotherapy on the Monday, I'm not | :01:49. | :01:54.
so good at all. On Monday nhght I'm struggling with sickness in | :01:55. | :02:00.
particular. Then for the few days after, I suffer from quite bad | :02:01. | :02:06.
nausea. That's not easy when you have a young daughter running about | :02:07. | :02:10.
the place, is it? Yeah, but I wouldn't change it because H think | :02:11. | :02:13.
if she wasn't about, I wouldn't be lazy but I'd put myself in ` cocoon | :02:14. | :02:18.
and put myself on the sofa `nd put my tracksuit on and stuff lhke that, | :02:19. | :02:21.
but like you say, 18 months, she's looking to play. She makes xou get | :02:22. | :02:30.
out of bed. Yeah. Looking to read, and I have to read, but I jtst | :02:31. | :02:34.
think, like, I don't want to see me on the sofa too much, so basically | :02:35. | :02:38.
I've kind of timed it so whdn Chantelle puts her down for her nap, | :02:39. | :02:42.
I make sure I get an hour and a half in the afternoon. Catch up. Yeah. So | :02:43. | :02:48.
I'm OK when she's awake and wants to do stuff. People who have bden doing | :02:49. | :02:57.
things a bit differently, your team`mates, your clubmates, the way | :02:58. | :03:00.
they're supporting you in the Grow4Joe appeal. What you think of | :03:01. | :03:03.
that? They've been spot on. When they first came to me, it w`s Max | :03:04. | :03:05.
Power in particular, and he said, I have an idea, you're on a journey, I | :03:06. | :03:11.
know it will be difficult for you but I want to show my support, and | :03:12. | :03:15.
also raise money for charitx by growing my hair. I was like, OK so | :03:16. | :03:21.
when I went in, I threw it on the lads and said, are you going to | :03:22. | :03:26.
leave it all up to Max? A fdw of them jumped on board. Danny Owens, | :03:27. | :03:36.
ran low. They're all growing their hair, growing their beards, and the | :03:37. | :03:39.
staff have got involved so ht has been spot on. Whose is your | :03:40. | :03:42.
favourite beard so far? I lhke Holmes's. I know a lot of pdople are | :03:43. | :03:47.
a big fan of Lowey's with hhs white tints in it and stuff like that but | :03:48. | :03:55.
I do like Danny Holmes's. Wd kind of said at the beginning when the | :03:56. | :03:58.
supporters did the seven`minute applause, we thought it would be for | :03:59. | :04:02.
one or two games but it has been consistent. They haven't forgotten. | :04:03. | :04:05.
Every game, they've been am`zing. What other messages of support have | :04:06. | :04:14.
you been getting? Any unusu`l ones from places you hadn't expected | :04:15. | :04:17.
Loads of people who I never thought would have had my number managed to | :04:18. | :04:21.
get my number. The likes of Stiliyan Petrov, Mark Halsey, Ross Httchins, | :04:22. | :04:24.
and I had a really good conversation with Brian Robson. And my bdst | :04:25. | :04:28.
friend over there, Ross Hutchins, he was diagnosed with cancer. H guess | :04:29. | :04:32.
Ross Hutchins is a situation similar to yours in that he is the top of | :04:33. | :04:38.
his game and he wanted to gdt back to it. No, I was saying to Chantelle | :04:39. | :04:41.
the other day, I feel like H pester him from time to time. Half the time | :04:42. | :04:46.
I'm not sure what country hd's in or whether he's awake to get b`ck to | :04:47. | :04:50.
the texts and stuff like, btt it seems like it has taken him three | :04:51. | :04:54.
months or so to get back in. He said he started really light and things | :04:55. | :04:57.
like that, and he did a few exercises regarding building his | :04:58. | :05:00.
muscles up and things like that and then the final month he got his | :05:01. | :05:04.
racket out and started getthng into it again. Is that inspiring for you | :05:05. | :05:08.
that he seems to have come back quickly? Yeah, it's proof it can be | :05:09. | :05:12.
done, so that is my goal, b`sically, and with the competitive nature I | :05:13. | :05:15.
would like to make sure I'm back within the year. He has put you in | :05:16. | :05:20.
touch with so many people you wouldn't have expected. Yeah. Famous | :05:21. | :05:25.
for all the wrong reasons, hn a way, I say. But no, it's really good and | :05:26. | :05:30.
I've tried my best to use it as an opportunity to raise awarendss and | :05:31. | :05:35.
to help others. People do h`ve times in their lives and I think they re | :05:36. | :05:39.
the making of people, you know what I mean? I think with this, H just | :05:40. | :05:43.
thought, OK, no problem. We always say, don't we, our life's jtst on | :05:44. | :05:47.
pause at the moment. Yeah, ht is. It's just on hold. We're just | :05:48. | :05:52.
waiting to kind of get back into playing. Yeah, kick on. Yeah. Simon, | :05:53. | :05:58.
they seem like an extraordinary strong couple. And it was | :05:59. | :06:01.
interesting for me watching that, when he talked about the fans | :06:02. | :06:04.
clapping, he said, they're not forgotten, and that will be | :06:05. | :06:05.
important. It perspective, doesn't it? We've been | :06:06. | :06:09.
at Prenton Park when the fans have started clapping after seven minutes | :06:10. | :06:13.
and players coming out with their beards. Its great support for the | :06:14. | :06:16.
lad and hopefully he comes back quickly and finishes a caredr off, | :06:17. | :06:20.
he can look back and think ht's just been on hold for a little bht, but | :06:21. | :06:24.
obviously they are staying strong as a partnership and will come through | :06:25. | :06:27.
this very strong. I'm sure of it. It's great that everyone is rallying | :06:28. | :06:31.
round. You can find details of Joe and Chantelle's fundraising events, | :06:32. | :06:34.
how to get hold of a wristb`nd, or grow a decent beard, ladies, online | :06:35. | :06:37.
at grow4joe.com or on Twittdr @grow4joe. | :06:38. | :06:43.
and Chantelle's fundraising events, how to get hold of a wristb`nd, or | :06:44. | :06:45.
Bad news from Prenton Park off the field this weekend with the collapse | :06:46. | :06:49.
of the club's takeover. On the field, Rovers are battling | :06:50. | :06:51.
relegation along with a couple more of our teams. With the weekdnd's | :06:52. | :06:55.
League One action, here's BBC Radio Manchester's Liam Bradford. | :06:56. | :07:01.
Crewe might have dominated Coventry in terms of possession and chances, | :07:02. | :07:06.
but that counts for nothing after a defeat which sees them slidd back | :07:07. | :07:09.
into the bottom four. Callul Wilson put City ahead, converting `fter | :07:10. | :07:12.
Franck Moussa's effort had come back off the post. It looked the home | :07:13. | :07:16.
side's luck was changing whdn Jordan Clarke's own goal levelled things | :07:17. | :07:19.
midway through the second h`lf, but that wasn't the case and thd | :07:20. | :07:22.
visitors stole all three pohnts nine minutes from time, when Wilson | :07:23. | :07:23.
scored his second. It's only goals scored which is | :07:24. | :07:32.
keeping Tranmere out of the drop zone, but they couldn't find the net | :07:33. | :07:35.
in their relegation six`pointer at home to Carlisle. They did come | :07:36. | :07:38.
close, though, Jake Cassidy hitting the post in the first half `nd | :07:39. | :07:43.
forcing a fine save from thd Cumbrians' keeper Jordan Pickford in | :07:44. | :07:46.
the second. Stalemate, too, for Oldham, but this was a good point | :07:47. | :07:49.
ahead of promotion`chasing Brentford. Again it was the Latics | :07:50. | :07:53.
with the better chances, Danny Philliskirk going close before the | :07:54. | :07:55.
break while James Wilson's powerful header was kept out as the Latics | :07:56. | :07:59.
extended their unbeaten run to four games. | :08:00. | :08:05.
We'll look at Preston's match with Crawley in a moment with Silon, but | :08:06. | :08:10.
here's the bottom half of the table and it shows just how tight things | :08:11. | :08:14.
are for Tranmere and Crewe. Eight points currently separate tdn teams. | :08:15. | :08:20.
Simon, let's first have a look back at your goal against Crawlex at the | :08:21. | :08:25.
weekend. Talk us through it, a winner from Joe Garner. We started | :08:26. | :08:29.
the game well, got Lee Holmds on this the ball in this wide `rea | :08:30. | :08:33.
sets a nice ball back for Kdith Keane, puts a great ball in and Joe | :08:34. | :08:37.
Garner has done what he's done really well in the last few months, | :08:38. | :08:40.
just finds space, great finhsh with head, feet, another celebration from | :08:41. | :08:44.
Joe Garner. He could do with working on the celebration a bit. It's not | :08:45. | :08:47.
great, it's like a double Shearer. He's come out with his duck thing as | :08:48. | :08:51.
well. I don't know a lot about it. I'm not bothered as long he as he | :08:52. | :08:55.
keeps scoring, the more celdbrations the better for us and for hhm. Let's | :08:56. | :08:59.
see what you'll be celebrathng at the end of the season. We c`n look | :09:00. | :09:03.
at the top of the table and talk about cementing position in the | :09:04. | :09:04.
play`offs, look at that. about cementing position in the | :09:05. | :09:07.
play`offs, look at You are firmly there points wise, so is it a case | :09:08. | :09:11.
of going for the top two? I think so. We can't give up hope. We still | :09:12. | :09:17.
have a number of games, we think we can win all of them, so obvhously | :09:18. | :09:21.
you're going to rely on the teams above you to drop points and over | :09:22. | :09:25.
the past weeks teams have dropped points, so nothing is unachhevable. | :09:26. | :09:28.
We will keep going and try to win every match and see where it takes | :09:29. | :09:32.
us. It is a bit like our destiny is out of our hands but we are going to | :09:33. | :09:37.
give it a good go. I will t`lk about your running in a minute because it | :09:38. | :09:41.
is quite a favourable running, but you know this better than md, I know | :09:42. | :09:45.
a few Preston fans and they are panicking about the play`offs and | :09:46. | :09:48.
with good reason. Eight plax`off appearances and eight failures. What | :09:49. | :09:51.
would you say to the Preston fans' psyche? It's got to end somdwhere | :09:52. | :09:55.
down the line. We have been to games this season where we've not won at | :09:56. | :09:58.
certain grounds in 50`odd ydars and we've done that, so law of `verages | :09:59. | :10:02.
suggest it's got to be brokdn soon and if we have to go into the | :10:03. | :10:06.
play`offs, let's embrace it, enjoy it, don't panic too much and | :10:07. | :10:09.
hopefully we can get promothon that way. It is not just words from you, | :10:10. | :10:12.
because your personal play`off record is pretty good. What is it? | :10:13. | :10:16.
Four finals as a player, won two and lost two, and two as a manager. So | :10:17. | :10:22.
not bad, but I want to try `nd achieve a third as a manager. You | :10:23. | :10:26.
are the man to have in the dugout. What about this team if it goes up, | :10:27. | :10:29.
what is achievable in the championship? I think we have a | :10:30. | :10:32.
strong squad and we proved before Christmas that regardless of whether | :10:33. | :10:36.
we are in League One or the championship, we give a lot of new | :10:37. | :10:39.
contracts to players so thex're here for the long term, we think a number | :10:40. | :10:44.
of them will be able to compete in the championship. We | :10:45. | :10:44.
go up we will have to strengthen it but we think we have the nucleus of | :10:45. | :10:52.
a good squad for League One next year or in the championship. The | :10:53. | :10:55.
difficulty with the playoffs is you are playing catch`up becausd you | :10:56. | :10:58.
have to bring in new people. You don't know how many games you have | :10:59. | :11:02.
towards the end of the season. It is difficult to plan. It's not easy. | :11:03. | :11:06.
It's the best way to get promoted if you can guarantee success at Wembley | :11:07. | :11:09.
because everybody's dream is to play at Wembley and lift a trophx there, | :11:10. | :11:13.
but from our perspective as coaching staff, we are trying to put things | :11:14. | :11:17.
in place for next year. We have all our preseason preparations firmed | :11:18. | :11:21.
up, but you have to keep an eye on what sort of players you wotld like | :11:22. | :11:24.
to have enter the championship, if we manage to get there, or League | :11:25. | :11:28.
One next year, so we will work hard on the pitch, off the pitch and see | :11:29. | :11:32.
where it takes us. Hopefullx we will chat at the end but you've only | :11:33. | :11:36.
faced one team from the top half in the last six games, so that's not | :11:37. | :11:40.
too bad. No, but some of those teams we've had to play fighting for their | :11:41. | :11:44.
lives. You've seen how tight it is at the bottom. We have Crewd and | :11:45. | :11:48.
Carlisle in the next few wedks, so everyone needs points but wd do feel | :11:49. | :11:52.
every game is a winnable gale for us. Thank you, Simon. | :11:53. | :11:55.
Elsewhere, Saturday was a bhg day in the Championship, with the top two | :11:56. | :11:58.
meeting at Turf Moor and a cracker of a derby with Bolton hosthng | :11:59. | :12:02.
Wigan. All the action from The Reebok is brought you by BBC Radio | :12:03. | :12:05.
Manchester's Jack Dearden. Jutkiewicz, Wheater makes the move. | :12:06. | :12:09.
Into the penalty area, and hnto the back of the net. It's just toe poked | :12:10. | :12:13.
in there by deserve it on opportunities created. | :12:14. | :12:22.
Here's another one. It's 1`0, smashed into the net by Nick Powell. | :12:23. | :12:32.
Bolton are absolutely stunndd. Player's injured inside the Bolton | :12:33. | :12:34.
Wanderers penalty area. Callum McManaman to the penalty. That has | :12:35. | :12:38.
to be a penalty kick. It is a penalty kick to Wigan Athletic. | :12:39. | :12:41.
Gomez left footed, saved by Adam Bogdan. It remains at 1`1. What a | :12:42. | :12:50.
save by the keeper. What dr`ma at the Reebok. I thought we were | :12:51. | :12:53.
fantastic today. 75 minutes of the game we were tremendous, defended | :12:54. | :12:56.
well, attack on display was fantastic and could have resulted in | :12:57. | :13:07.
more goals. I still think wd lost two points but three or four minutes | :13:08. | :13:10.
before the end, you probablx would have taken to draw. I agree with | :13:11. | :13:15.
Jack. What a finish and what a save by Bogdan. With the rest of the | :13:16. | :13:18.
Championship action from thd weekend, here's Howard Booth. | :13:19. | :13:21.
Burnley haven't had many daxs to forget this season, but Sattrday was | :13:22. | :13:24.
definitely one. Clarets fans could tell when striker Sam Vokes limped | :13:25. | :13:28.
out of the action after just five minutes. Without Vokes and strike | :13:29. | :13:31.
partner Danny Ings, Burnley lacked an edge while the visitors displayed | :13:32. | :13:34.
finishing worthy of their position as league leaders. David Nugent gave | :13:35. | :13:37.
them the lead ten minutes bdfore the break with this curling effort while | :13:38. | :13:40.
another quality goal from Chris Wood wrapped up their victory late in the | :13:41. | :13:44.
second half. Blackpool did Burnley a favour down at third`placed QPR | :13:45. | :13:48.
holding their hosts to a dr`w. The Seasiders took the lead early on | :13:49. | :13:50.
when David Goodwille scored from close range and they frustr`ted | :13:51. | :13:53.
Harry Redknapp's stuttering side for long periods. Junior Hoilett finally | :13:54. | :13:56.
breached the Blackpool back line 12 minutes from time. While Rangers | :13:57. | :13:59.
pushed for the three points to increase pressure on Burnlex, it was | :14:00. | :14:02.
Barry Ferguson's boys who c`me closest to a winner, Tom Barkhoozen | :14:03. | :14:05.
missing an excellent chance to take all three points. Blackburn boss | :14:06. | :14:13.
Gary Bowyer was left frustr`ted with the officials after a battlhng draw | :14:14. | :14:17.
at Millwall. All the action came in a frantic final half hour, sparked | :14:18. | :14:20.
by a controversial red card for Rovers skipper Grant Hanley. He was | :14:21. | :14:24.
adjudged to have prevented Steve Morison from scoring, but the home | :14:25. | :14:28.
side did find the net from Shaun Williams' resultant penalty. But the | :14:29. | :14:31.
ten man weren't behind for long Michael Keane heading home Craig | :14:32. | :14:34.
Conway's corner. Keane was `lso involved in the next goal, referee | :14:35. | :14:37.
James Linnington deciding hd had brought down Simeon Jackson. The | :14:38. | :14:40.
striker picked himself up to give his side a 2`1 lead with two just | :14:41. | :14:43.
minutes to go. But Blackburn battled their way to a point. Tommy Spurr's | :14:44. | :14:48.
throw in caused chaos in thd box and Josh King got enough on the ball to | :14:49. | :14:50.
earn his side that point. A scan at the table shows that | :14:51. | :14:58.
Burnley's defeat wasn't too costly because of Blackpool's good point | :14:59. | :15:01.
down at QPR. Despite Uwe Rosler s disappointment, Wigan look like a | :15:02. | :15:03.
play`off certainty. Blackpool keep picking up points and it's ` good | :15:04. | :15:07.
job they do. They're seven points above the bottom four but two of the | :15:08. | :15:11.
teams below them do have gales in hand. Wigan play their game in hand | :15:12. | :15:15.
tomorrow night and what a g`me it is. BBC Radio Manchester will have | :15:16. | :15:18.
the very best coverage of their match | :15:19. | :15:23.
Radio Lancashire is the place for Blackburn`Brighton. Now, whdn you're | :15:24. | :15:25.
known as the fastest progressing club in English football, the aim is | :15:26. | :15:28.
to keep progressing. For Fldetwood, that means promotion to League One | :15:29. | :15:32.
in just their second season in the Football League. A lowly non`League | :15:33. | :15:38.
club little over a decade ago, on Saturday they hosted | :15:39. | :15:39.
top`of`the`table Rochdale. Han Haslam was there. Rochdale fans | :15:40. | :15:45.
heading to the coast and thdy have every reason to be happy. Top of the | :15:46. | :15:49.
table and looking likely to make return to League One. Fleetwood | :15:50. | :15:57.
might yet join them but defdat today for the hosts would mean by the time | :15:58. | :16:01.
the clocks go forward, their hopes of automatic promotion might have | :16:02. | :16:08.
run out of time. We are verx happy. Seven promotions in seven ydars it | :16:09. | :16:11.
was expected, we have a chahrman who loves football, the club and the | :16:12. | :16:19.
supporters you cannot ask for more. Fleetwood's rise has been | :16:20. | :16:22.
masterminded by the chairman and this is a club constantly aspiring | :16:23. | :16:27.
to the next level. We have been very good. Our season has been ldt down | :16:28. | :16:38.
slightly by inconsistencies. After a couple of seasons, is Leagud Two | :16:39. | :16:41.
more difficult than you thotght I think it is, yes, there was a | :16:42. | :16:44.
misconception that because our force bots, we have confidence whdreas the | :16:45. | :16:47.
result we want automatic promotion spot, this be great, we will be able | :16:48. | :16:49.
to get into League no easy games in League Two at all. | :16:50. | :17:00.
`` for promotion spots. Fledtwood came out on top when the sides met | :17:01. | :17:05.
in December. We are inside the inner workings, three hours beford | :17:06. | :17:07.
kick`off, follow me into thd home dressing room. All the shirts are | :17:08. | :17:16.
laid out, multiple choice of boots and the names on the shirts, they | :17:17. | :17:20.
hope these people believed them to victory next season. `` will lead | :17:21. | :17:23.
them to victory. Our aim for the season was to get promotion. | :17:24. | :17:27.
Hopefully we can do it. But today is the day. We are living the dream, | :17:28. | :17:35.
being in the football Leagud and if not successful, we will go for it | :17:36. | :17:38.
again next season. We will do everything we can to ensure we can | :17:39. | :17:40.
achieve promotion this season. Hard`fought was one way to describe | :17:41. | :18:00.
this match, no goals but colpelling spectacle. He has put over! And that | :18:01. | :18:03.
was the best chance of the game Headed back across. It hits the | :18:04. | :18:14.
post! Great effort. A draw was enough to keep Rochdale top while | :18:15. | :18:17.
Fleetwood edged one point closer to third placed Chesterfield, who they | :18:18. | :18:21.
play on the last day of the season, so where does this leave thd top | :18:22. | :18:26.
three finish? It is still on, we're not giving anything up. Even if we | :18:27. | :18:28.
had won, or lost. Even Stevdns, happy for the point, it keeps us at | :18:29. | :18:32.
nine points, I thought we h`d an excellent outfit today at home. They | :18:33. | :18:36.
are second to us, we are expecting most victories at home. We're | :18:37. | :18:41.
catching up on ourselves because the rise has been rapid. All thd | :18:42. | :18:47.
intentions are there, fantastic and the sooner we get to that it'll be | :18:48. | :18:51.
better for the whole town of Fleetwood and the time. `` the town. | :18:52. | :18:59.
Here's a look at where that draw leaves Fleetwood and Rochdale. As | :19:00. | :19:04.
you were at the top for Dald as Scunthorpe also drew and | :19:05. | :19:07.
Chesterfield were playing in the JPT Final, where they lost to | :19:08. | :19:09.
Peterborough. Fleetwood with five points to make up from their final | :19:10. | :19:13.
six games. The rest of Saturday s League Two action was focussed on | :19:14. | :19:16.
big games at the bottom. With it, here's Nazia Mogra. Draw spdcialists | :19:17. | :19:20.
Bury have been desperate for a win for weeks and they saved it for one | :19:21. | :19:24.
of the most important games of the season, against strugglers | :19:25. | :19:26.
Northampton Town. David Flitcroft brought in two loan strikers late | :19:27. | :19:29.
last week and both scored ddbut goals. One of them, Hallam Hope | :19:30. | :19:33.
struck from close range to give the Shakers the lead while Dannx Mayor's | :19:34. | :19:42.
deflected effort doubled it. Danny Rose added a third late on to | :19:43. | :19:45.
significantly ease Bury's rdlegation concerns. Accrington's manager, | :19:46. | :19:52.
James Beattie, admitted thehr victory at Exeter wasn't prdtty but | :19:53. | :20:00.
it did secure three vital points. Kayode Odejayi bundled home the only | :20:01. | :20:02.
goal to move Stanley nine points clear of the relegation zond. They | :20:03. | :20:10.
also leapfrog Morecambe, who are now five League games without a win | :20:11. | :20:13.
They lost to an injury time header at Bristol Rovers. Afterwards, Jim | :20:14. | :20:16.
Bentley said it was the hardest goal he'd had to take as the Shrhmps | :20:17. | :20:18.
manager. Well, a glance at the bottol of the | :20:19. | :20:25.
League Two table shows just how big those wins were for Stanley and | :20:26. | :20:29.
Bury. Morecambe could do with a break after those five games without | :20:30. | :20:32.
a win. Bury could take another big step towards total safety tomorrow | :20:33. | :20:37.
night. They host Bristol Rovers at the JD Stadium. Now, what else can | :20:38. | :20:41.
we possibly say about our vdry own quiz, One On One? How about that it | :20:42. | :20:45.
really is the gift that keeps giving? Last week we had our very | :20:46. | :20:50.
first and very last Four On Four. Tonight, another first. A w`lk`out. | :20:51. | :20:54.
Entertaining us and their tdam mates this week, Accrington Stanldy's | :20:55. | :20:57.
Andrew Dawber on your left `nd Josh Windass. | :20:58. | :21:04.

Barry? Barry? I just said that! Brian. Bob? What is the answer, | :21:50. | :21:57.
Nicky? Brett. Brett?! Which famous footballer was better known to his | :21:58. | :22:00.

not going to be Rooney, is ht? Pele? Nice one! I know it's a guess, that | :22:17. | :22:22.
is why I have gone like that! According to staff, which Accrington | :22:23. | :22:26.

Have another look at Nicky Hunt s reaction to Andrew Dawber thinking a | :23:57. | :24:09.
mule was a baby goat. Look `t his eyes. What is a baby goat c`lled? A | :24:10. | :24:23.
mule? They don't let us down! Every week. It's all good banter. Some | :24:24. | :24:31.
come out of it looking more stupid than others but I suppose that | :24:32. | :24:34.
speaks highly of footballers these days. Who would you pick? It would | :24:35. | :24:41.
be easier to keep one out! Keep Kevin Davies out and take your pick | :24:42. | :24:46.
of the others! We might takd you up on that! Football, our national | :24:47. | :24:50.
game, with 1.5 million people playing every week. But that isn't | :24:51. | :24:59.
as healthy as it sounds. Thd grassroots game has serious problems | :25:00. | :25:02.
and to make matters worse, Sport England has announced funding cuts | :25:03. | :25:05.
because those participation numbers are falling. With a special report, | :25:06. | :25:08.
here's Late Kick Off''s Kevhn Kilbane. | :25:09. | :25:14.
Unbelievably, football is no longer the top participant sport in this | :25:15. | :25:17.
country. More people nowadaxs prefer to run, swim or cycle. Playhng | :25:18. | :25:23.
numbers are in decline and hn many places facilities are shockhng. | :25:24. | :25:27.
Junior football still has the ongoing issue of overaggressive | :25:28. | :25:30.
parents and many still question the way we coach our kids. Make no | :25:31. | :25:34.
mistake, the grassroots gamd is in big trouble. Did you enjoy that | :25:35. | :25:41.
Good. You played well. Kennx Saunders is a manager of Woolton FC. | :25:42. | :25:46.
He has launched a campaign to save grassroots football. Grassroots | :25:47. | :25:52.
football is in massive dangdr. It could fold in the next five to ten | :25:53. | :25:55.
years. There are massive problems, right from funding through to | :25:56. | :25:58.
grassroots coaching and pardnts the Respect campaigns. There ard many | :25:59. | :26:05.
issues out there at the momdnt. Although Woolton have addressed the | :26:06. | :26:08.
issue of pushy parents from the touchline, not everyone elsd has. | :26:09. | :26:14.
That is a yellow card, ref! Yellow card him! He's an animal! You're an | :26:15. | :26:22.
animal. He deserves a yellow card. Constantly shouting instructions is | :26:23. | :26:24.
counter`productive but we do want that noise and support, that is what | :26:25. | :26:30.
the young people want. But parents would not shut at children during a | :26:31. | :26:33.
piano lesson, so what we ard trying to work out is a right level of | :26:34. | :26:37.
support for those young people. `` shout. There was always been an | :26:38. | :26:42.
issue about the standard of coaching but the FA insist that is changing. | :26:43. | :27:00.
What we're Coaching badges, it is extreme the money they are charging | :27:01. | :27:03.
for grassroots volunteers, we're being priced out and we need | :27:04. | :27:06.
coaches. More qualified coaches It is a ten`year journey and I believe | :27:07. | :27:10.
we are well on the way to ddlivering a world`class coaching systdm and I | :27:11. | :27:13.
feel within ten years we will be seeing the fruits of that l`bour. | :27:14. | :27:17.
While the culture of the gr`ssroots game may be changing, there is still | :27:18. | :27:20.
one huge cloud on the horizon ` funding. With council cuts `nd even | :27:21. | :27:23.
Sport England cutting its fhnancial support, amateur clubs need to know | :27:24. | :27:28.
who is going to help them strvive. We have to get the Premier League, | :27:29. | :27:32.
the Football League, we havd to get the Government and councils, | :27:33. | :27:35.
everyone who is responsible for grassroots football and can improve | :27:36. | :27:41.
around the table and we need them now. I guess it's the computer | :27:42. | :27:46.
generation. We have run out of time. You were on the sofa one ye`r ago, | :27:47. | :27:52.
what has been the differencd? There has been a lot of hard work from the | :27:53. | :27:56.
staff and players, the playdrs deserve a lot of credit, thdy have | :27:57. | :28:00.
embraced what we have asked them to do, they are a fantastic bunch to | :28:01. | :28:04.
work with and they are learning from us as well. Good position to be in | :28:05. | :28:09.
and hopefully we can finish the season in a real positive m`nner and | :28:10. | :28:13.
give the press and support something to cheer about and get back into the | :28:14. | :28:16.
Championship, where we want to be. Good luck. Well, that's it for this | :28:17. | :28:20.
week. Many thanks to Simon for joining me. We're back next Monday | :28:21. | :28:23.
with a very special look at Wigan's FA Cup semifinal. You may rdmember | :28:24. | :28:26.
last week the Burnley managdr volunteered Keith Treacy and Ross | :28:27. | :28:30.
Wallace to take part in One On One. Well, that is being filmed very | :28:31. | :28:34.
shortly and you will see it on Late Kick Off next Monday. Until then, | :28:35. | :28:37.
from all the team and Simon, goodnight. | :28:38. | :28:57. |
