Episode 10 Late Kick Off South, South West and West

Hello, I'm James Richardson. And in a week that has seen the cash for

access scandal, wait till you see what we have got, and we don't even

have to pay for it! This is Late Coming up, match-day for managers.

What is it really like? We go behind the scenes. Sometimes it

doesn't happen for you but we will continue to pass it.

Bournemouth sacked their manager. We have the very latest on Lee

Bradbury's exit and who is coming We have how and the why of the

final hurdle for this team. And the goals from every game for

our region's teams. Hello and thank you for joining us

on Late Kick Off. We are here in the studio. Plenty of action and

reaction on the way. This is a week that has already seen a manager get

his marching orders, as we have heard, but we begin with an inside

look at what it is like being a boss on the biggest day of the week.

In a Late Kick Off exclusive, Torquay were kind enough to let us

go backstage. Kick-off is still four hours away,

but already, the ground is open for business. Manager and coach are

sold the first to arrive. We read the papers. An article yesterday in

The Sun and we are looking at how they have reported it. A moment to

reminisce... Did you have long hours of play? Like the shaggy-dog

animal? Yes! It is all part of the excitement. Once the game starts,

it is doubly exciting. You feel like you have got... A part of

control once the game starts. The controllers there but it is over to

the players once they go across the white line. Your feet start a

tingle, the hairs on the back of your next got to stand up.

are against and what they're about, because at 2pm, it can't change.

everybody helps out, including the manager. I might speak to Alex

Ferguson and Arsene Wenger. If it helps sell a few extra tickets in

the long run, that comes back to me to allow to get a bit more extra

money in the playing budget, and that is what it is all about.

lose the ball! Most managers will have a beer afterwards and put the

world to rights. Whispers there is a bit of a union that people stick

together because we know what it is like. -- I suppose there is a bit

of a union. We have a laugh. We're just privileged every week to be

doing what we're doing. Some of us have been doing it a long time.

Fascinating stuff! And you revealing you had a bit of a hand

in the arrival there? I gave my opinion because I think Martin is

an excellent coach. And he is a man you can get on with, and I think

that is what you need at a place like Torquay. You need a manager

who can going there and he was doing the fund raising just before

the game. You need to get your hands dirty and that is what he was

doing. I am really pleased for them because people call the race more

club but they like tackling big clubs. To think it is fantastic,

what they're doing. Thank goodness you told them to give Martin Ling a

call! With a small club like Torquay, you have just got to get

involved. The manager has to concentrate. But the supporters who

go down there regularly and the ones who travel all over the

country, especially to places like Carlisle. They are great. We still

to come, there's the worst of times at Bournemouth, with the latest on

Lee Bradbury's dismissal. And the best of times at the club

as we celebrate George Best's debut at the club many moons ago.

Don't kid yourself. Players always want to do well against a former

club. Sharp did that, no question, against Doncaster. He has leapt

into the Premier League. What is is about not celebrating?! He is

absolutely ravishing this! 7 wins his career. And one of the best of

This is a game of great goals. But this team aren't fazed. This was

come into the team and Southampton of flying. And what a big game but,

as Reading travel to West Ham. West Ham, will be looking forward to

this game because they lost 3-0 and they are looking for some revenge

from that and more? Faced up the ball. I talked to Kevin after the

game and he said 15 West Ham players are quite looking forward

to seeing Jimi, so it will be spicy. A few of them bumped into him.

There could be a massive queue! But they have just got to play the game

and not the occasion, Reading. you play him in this game?

Absolutely, because if they are going to get West Ham out of their

comfort zone and play them, antagonise them, you might stop

them playing their game. Interesting stuff. A question from

a viewer - can Brighton stay in the play-off positions for the rest of

this season? They have some tough I think they will not just stay in

the play-offs, but caused some teams some problems.

Bournemouth next. Life at the Cherries is far from being a bowl

of selfsame right now, with the club announcing Sunday evening that

they were firing manager Lee Bradbury. Bribery was in the job

for 14 months, taking over from Eddie Howe. He began with a clear

vision for the task ahead. It is something that you can't put

into people or take out of them. It is in you or not. An attitude which

took the team to the play-offs, and an agonising defeat to Huddersfield.

The team was pulled apart over the summer, netting �1 million in sales.

Only three of the team began the season this year. But they rose to

eighth. The chairman rewardingly with a contract running to 2015,

but a run of defeats, culminating this weekend at Oldham, saw a

massive U-turn and the sack for the manager. Was the lead position

relevant? -- League. I would rather not say. I'm not

there to... I just don't feel it is my place to, and -- to comment on

where we are. As far as I'm concerned, the situation is as it

is, and I wish lead a great future. I am sure our paths will cross

again. I hope we remain friends. The youth team manager will take

charge until the end of the season. Eddie was taking a view that he

felt that myself and Sean could come across and help out. Obviously

the manager did not feel that way, so in the end, Eddie has made the

decision that I am the manager. This club is EastEnders on save. It

is one drama after another. Some say that heavy Mitchell is

covering his own back, but six defeats in eight, is that not worth

the sack? He is the guy that took them to

where they want to be. He has got a three-year contract. Let him manage.

If they did not think he was the man to take them forward, why did

they give him the contract? If they thought he needed help, why did

they not give it to him? Given all the business we have seen

lately, do you think he was always on a hiding to nothing?

It has made the club unstable. It has made them rock the boat a bid.

against bottom of League One Chesterfield in the Johnstone

Paints Trophy. But their brush with glory was to have a disappointing

finish, Chesterfield handing Di Canio's side a rare defeat and

winning the final 2-0. Very sad, because it is obvious

that you want to get the trophy. What we saw today something special.

It is special for the club but also for the fans and players.

But since it was for us, we don't Just a point between the pilgrims

place despite not playing. Torquay All sorts of things to discuss. You

have got five of our teams in the top seven. It is a tasty end to the

to see them with a good pre-season under their belt. I think they

could be a strong team. Look out for them. Hopefully we will look

out for Plymouth as well. It is going to be really tense for them.

inexperience, but he has got a lot of experience on the pitch. On the

pitch, they have got a lot of leaders. Complete contrast to the

start of the season. They had no money or experience on the pitch.

Now they have got the leaders. Given what they have been broken

made would be great for them to get out of it. They have had no luck or

money. You think the Dad's Army spirit

could be the key? Why not? The calm in the storm - that is what they

will be. Also, Aldershot are celebrating the 20th anniversary of

the day they went out of business. Loads of former players attending.

Also, perhaps a fortune and a message for Portsmouth. --

unfortunate message. Before we go, there's a couple of

pearls of footballing trivia which have caught our eye. Murts.

In the Torbay Sunday League, the leaders Wheelpower have thrashed

Nova 2010 FC 58-0. It's believed to be the heaviest defeat in British

history. These two brothers, Robbie and

Stuart Bowker, scored 28 between them. The ref said Nova had enough

in the second half but he had to tell them they might get fined if

they walked off. It was only 20-0 at half time. But these two rubbed

it in second half because they got 38 after the break. If they win

their two games in hand, it is going to go down to goal difference.

So we thought we would take advantage. 167 or more is pretty

good! I am not sure about this. The other team wanted to stop. They

kept on scoring goals. According to FA rules, they have got to finish

the tie. They could have taken it easy. There was a 60-year-old plane

for the opposition...! We said we'd leave you with some

good Bournemouth memories. It's 29 years to the day since George Best

graced Dean Court. 9,000 fans doubled the usual gate at Dean

Court to see one of the last games Best would play. Newport were the

visitors. But sadly all his skills would be to no avail - Cherries

lost 1-0. Harry Redknapp said he was the best he'd ever seen or

played against and put him higher than Pele in the list of all-time

greats. Glad you mentioned the name Pele -

surprisingly near and dear to our region, because next week join us
