-- highs. Sheffield United's top striker gets five years Angel. What

does the club to? Three wins in a row for Chesterfield, is staying in

League One possible? And what a hoot, we go head-to-head with

Sheffield Wednesday. With me, two of our English regulars. Brian Laws

and Dean Windass. Late Kick Off is a football programme and we

normally like to talk off-sides and golden goals. But there's no

getting away from the fact that on Friday, Sheffield United's star

striker Ched Evans was sentenced to five years for rape. Dan Johnson

reports. On Friday, as should the United prepared for their game

against MK Dons, the club were hit with the news that their striker,

Ched Evans, was sentenced to five years Angel after being convicted

of rape at Caernarfon Crown Court. The incident took place at a hotel

in Rhyl in North Wales in May last year. Ched Evans stood trial

alongside his friend, Clayton McDonald. Both deny the charges

against them, like Donald was found not guilty. Evans, who scored 35

goals for United this season, continued to play why the trial was

taking place. Yesterday, police confirmed they are investigating

possible acts of contempt of court after reports that the victim of

the attack had been named on social networking websites. In a separate

matter, Sheffield United released a statement confirming that they have

launched their own investigation into comments about the conviction

made on Twitter by the reserve team BBC Late Kick Off has made a number

of requests today for an interview with the representative of

Sheffield United. But we have been told that no one is available at

this time. After United's game against MK Dons on Saturday,

manager Danny Wilson was asked if off the field events in the last

week had been unsettling for the players. Not at all, as I have said,

we are professional footballers and that is the priority. Our focus has

to be that and that alone. We will move on, you get dad certain blows

but you just get on with it. We are not going to cry about the result

today. Joining as his rod Staton from BBC Radio Shepherd. The club

did not say a lot about the case, are you expecting more? We are

expecting that Sen, they are meeting with their lawyers to

decide what the next move will be and Ched Evans is getting advice

from his lawyers about the next move and whether they will try for

the retrial and when that decision is made, we will hear more. What

has been the reaction? You have been canvassing from the public,

what is the reaction from fans? They are shocked, they were

preparing to go to MK Dons, nearly 6000, travelling on Saturday and

they have been anticipating and then on Friday, that inspirational

striker who scored so many goals has been sentenced to five years in

prison and I am not sure that many fans will know how to react. They

understand it is a human element and there is a victim and he has

been found guilty but it will be some time before Shepherd United

fans know how to react to this stunning use. I understand there is

an investigation being launched because another member of staff has

commented on the case. Have we reached a point where clubs and

managers have to take a stand against players using these

platforms like Twitter? They have to get wiser. I spoke to two

managers in the last week or so who expressed real concern about

Twitter, everybody is on it, whether you are a player or in the

youth team or even some members of staff. And some of those players

and staff members must realise what the audience is. Clubs have to

manage that better, I am not sure how they can do that, maybe a case

of the people at the tops begin to the players but the players must

take responsibility and know that a lot of people for them on Twitter

and they have to be more careful about what they say. Thank you. On

that last point, you are a modern manager, this is a modern problem.

How on earth can the police but players say on public platforms?

The difficulty is that Twitter, it is widespread. Everybody uses it,

but from a footballing point of view, everything has to be put in

place. Very early on. And to stop twitching and to get control, that

has to be contractual between the player and the club. At this moment,

it is so difficult to get a group of this, and it is causing a lot of

problems for individuals, which is unnecessary and unprofessional.

seems active control at the moment, it might be the case for some

footballers, you spanned the generations, is the modern player

more arrogant and less well behaved? Because they're getting

paid that much money, if you tell them not to do something, they just

go against you because they are getting so much each week. Is that

arrogance? I do not know. Some footballers are different. We are

talking about a minority, not everybody is the same. That is the

thing. As Brian said, how do you stop this with players? If I was

the manager, I would say, anybody on Twitter and anybody who writes

this, you put a stand on it, and that is the only way you can do it.

In the changing room and you say that this is what is going to

happen if you go wanted Twitter and tweet this. There was no comeback

from that. You have to be tough, it is very difficult. Talking football,

what happens with the team? They will talk amongst themselves and

they have to stay strong professionally? This has not just

happen overnight, this has been going on for a very long time. The

Football Club has known about this and the players and supporters,

hanging around for such a long time and they have been talking about

this for months. There are no surprises that the players will be

talking about this. They lost at the weekend but MK Dons away, it is

again that they would have lost anyway. It has ended a very good

run. They are a very good side and I would not say that was a shock

defeat, from a footballing point of view, MK Dons for a very good side

at home and that was a very tough place to go. Alan Smith getting the

goal, his first in more than five years and well over 100 games. He

used to be so prolific. So which of the Steel City giants will be going

up with champions Charlton? The battle intensified this weekend

because with United on a low, Wednesday's high went up another

gear. Here's BBC Radio Sheffield's Paul Walker with the best of the

rest of the League One action. This goal in the 95th minute by Michail

Antonio blue the race wide open. His winner against Carlisle but

then in the quest for automatic promotion. Wednesday went in front

in the first half with Chris Lines Blades when James Berrett equalised

for Carlisle, who themselves have hopes of a play-off spot. But then

show with Huddersfield getting their first win in four games. Lynn

Novak hit the winner against Scunthorpe who have their League

One status confirmed for another season. Meanwhile, the terriers

know that they will play the MK Dons in the play-offs as both are

certain to finish at the 4th and 5th. Shepherd United and Sheffield

Wednesday taking it to the wire for second place. Huddersfield, who

knows? And at the bottom, we will 10 games under Dave Jones minus 18,

draw on a couple, they will not be beaten and they will not go away.

To be fair Sheffield United responded in every shape and form

all football clubs needs strikers. You have to pay a lot of money for

them. If he loses Fry, but we do I know if he will lose anyone yet. It

will get a season for him next year. An interesting summer ahead at

Elland Road. There season feels over but is still managed to do

some damage to Cardiff City et weekend. With Neil Warnock, you

know every player must give his all. It will be an interesting summer.

There will be a lot of changes. Neal will want to stamp his of

authority on the team. He will know who he wants to keep. He will have

his targets already. It will be an interesting summer for the Leeds

fans. Why happens at Oakwell? They have had a shocking couple of

months to end the season, lessons learned? I think so. It has been a

big job for Keith to come in from Rochdale. It is a big step. He has

to keep the players for next season. Davies scored a lot golds for him.

I think there was a learning curve for Keith and he will know what is

Chesterfield came into League One in August with expectations of a

decent season. So what's transpired has been a big disappointment. Yet

just as we were about to write them off, the spireites have suddenly

found the kind of form that may yet save the day. We sent Rob Jones to

Derbyshire to watch John Sheridan plotting the great escape.

the green. We did not play that bad, only a couple of games where we had

been heavily beaten. Whereas maybe we had all the luck last season, it

has deserted as this season. Sheridan is the longest serving

manager in his patch whilst other clubs have been quick to pull the

trigger, jester to maintain he is the man to take them forward.

they go down. How important you think that has been in giving them

a lift? I think has been vital. Not only for the club and fans, to give

them something to smile about, then that again, it may have given them

that spur to get a run together. We're not saying they will do it

but they have a great chance. If they can get to the last game of

this season where it is riding on that one game, they have to win his

next game so you never know. will feel as good as going up again

if they managed to pull this off? As you say, for players and

managers, if you can take it to the last game of the season, it will be

a great escape. Whitaker came off the bench and got two goals in two

games. They have had players injured will season. You never know.

Jack Lester has been missing also. As you say, if you can get double

figures from them, you have a great chance. We have happy till now --
