Episode 6 Late Kick Off Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

The weekend is not quite over yet. You still have Late Kick Off to

Morgan steps up at Bramall Lane, why did Danny Wilson leave

Sheffield United? Can Brian McDermott soothe frayed nerves in

Leeds? Yorkshire's Wembley wizards. Good evening, another packed

programme. Apologies in advance if you're club

doesn't get the attention it deserves tonight.

We've a lot to discuss this week. With me in the studio, two chaps

with Bradford and Sheffield United heritage, not to mention many ,many

more clubs, SPL Manager of the Month - Motherwell's Stuart McCall

and, as always, our Man of the Month Dean Windass.

Well, where to start. Some sackings are as predictable as

day following night, others catch you out completely.

Last week there was no talk of Danny Wilson leaving Sheffield

United, but one day after a horrible performance against

Crawley, Wilson was out of Bramall Lane and Chris Morgan placed in

temporary charge. Paul Barnes asks why the Blades

made such a dramatic move so late # Baby if you could, would you go

all fall apart again?... # There has been a growing fear

around Bramall Lane that Sheffield United may have ran their race.

Stuttering form, Blades fans have been here before. With five league

games to go, Sheffield United fans might have hoped the match against

Swindon would provide the perfect chance to cement their claims for

automatic promotion. With one win in their last matches a play-off

spot might be their own chance of securing a place in next season's

Championship. That return wasn't deemed good enough for the United

board. After Tuesday's defeat by Crawley, they felt a change in the

dug-out was the only option. Sheffield United have confirmed

that Danny Wilson has left the club. As Wilson's 23 month tenure came to

an end, they called upon a familiar face, Chris Morgan, to steer the

good ship United back on course. Wise decision? Time will tell. Were

there tensions simmering behind the scenes. It's a massive gamble. They

were in trouble last summer with people being made redundant at

Sheffield United. They have started to cut the cloth badly. If Danny

had wanted to, I'm sure he did want to have players, in he could have

done, got told he couldn't and had to get on with it. Unfortunately,

he paid the consequences. Going back to the club he supported all

his life, why did Jamie walk away after six months? From the early

doors I knew it wasn't the job for me. I didn't feel as if the club

had what I wanted. We weren't going the right way. I had three

different bosses really in six months. I couldn't develop a

working relationship really where I wanted to be in it with the

football and, at the time we were doing loads and loads of meetings

rather than what I wanted to do - develop players and being on the

coaching field. The club have lost key players. Jamie believes Wilson

found it difficult to replace them. Now, every penny is watched and

what you can have and what you can't have. You want that player

that you think you can have to take the club forward you might someone

down the way, there is a list. You can't have him, you can't have him.

There might be one down there where it is. That is a lot of clubs

nowadays but at Sheffield United that is what happened. What was the

response with the fans? We couldn't carry on with one home win since

Boxing Day. Something had to happen. It's a gamble. It's very sad he was

a very good manager. I think he has been treated badly. Having said

that, I really like Chris Morgan. I don't think they could have picked

a better person than him. Prams a bad decision, you never know if

it's a good decision or a bad decision until the season is over,

do you? That is the difficulty with this one. They will come out fired

up. Hopefully everyone will get behind him today. I think they will

be good. Go for it! Morgan was welcomed into the dug-out to huge

acclaim from the home fans. His team got off tonne a electric start.

latched on to McMahon's free-kick. Swindon came out fighting. They

were unable to level the score. Dave Kitson made them pay, eight

minutes before full-time, with this header an another superb delivery

from McMahon. It was a really tough from McMahon. It was a really tough

decision. It was a decision I didn't make until I'd spoke to

Danny and Frank. They gave me my opportunity, when I retired from

football, to step on to the coaching side. Without them two, I

wouldn't have had the chance to do today what I'm doing. It shows the

qualities they have as men that they both, sort of, said, grasp it,

do it and do your best and be your self-and try and enjoy it.

We'll talk Wilson, Morgan and Sheffield United in a moment, first

the best of the action from the other games in League One this

weekend. stayed top of the League One thanks

to a Paynter double at Crewe. Clayton put the home side in front

10 minutes into the second-half. Going behind seemed to spur on them

to find an extra gear. Paynter's goals were contrasting in style the

first from distance. This one, from six yards out. Rovers are now

closing in on promotion and possibly the League One title. With

Oldham winning, Scunthorpe needed all three points at home to Walsall.

They fell behind. Grigg forced the ball home. Under the circumstances,

it was a point gained for Scunny. Canavan's equaliser came deep into

stoppage-time. 1-1, there is still hope. It's tight among the top

five: Sheffield United have games in hand. Scunthorpe can survive,

what happened and why did it happen? The poor run ever results

is clearly the why. What do you think did go on? I think nothing

surprises us any more in football. With Danny, good guy, good manager.

The club have thought the recent home form, not scoring goals, it's

a big decision. Nice to see Morgan has got off to a fantastic start.

Perfect start. Hearing the fans before the game. There is sympathy

for Danny Wilson? Yeah. There were questions asked when he first got

the job he did fantastically well to get them where they are now.

Nothing surprises you in football. Chris has a great opportunity now.

If he can manage to take them over the line or get them in the play-

offs at the end of the season they will probably get the job. Chris

Morgan making it clear he didn't take the job until he spoke to

those involved. He did get the perfect start. He could well get

them promoted? Rightly so. He came to the club when I was already

there. He is a great leader. He hurts your hands when he shakes

your hands. You saw the enthusiasm with him and David after the game.

The supporters got behind them. They got a great results. If it's

play-offs, so be it. We know what happened last season, hopefully

this season they can make it. quick game now of yes or no. We

looked at the odds of who will be on the next manager. You are on

there. I don't believe it. Downes? I wouldn't know. I think Chris

Morgan carries on what he is doing... He is second favourite. He

gets them up he would be offered. You would think so. Stuart McCall

16-1? Is it? He won't tell me. never been a player/coach/manager.

I'm not doing that certainly. they rang you up? It's a great club,

big club. I'm loving my time at Motherwell. I hope the Blades can

go the season. Now, a look at the goals that Sheffield United scored

Kitson has scored goals at that level. The players will respect

level. The players will respect Chris. He is the most aggressive

Work to do. Sheffield United aren't the only

club to make a management change this week.

Less than two weeks after Neil Warnock left Elland, Leeds

appointed his successor. With news on that and the rest of

the Championship action, here's Neil Morrow. After days of

speculation, Leeds United confirmed on Friday that former Reading boss,

Brian McDermott hrks signed a three-year deal to manage the club.

His appointment has gone down well with fans who have been restless

after another complicated season for the club. Supporters will

expect them to challenge for promotion next year. Yesterday, it

was relegation on the mind of fans of both clubs. The Owls could do

of both clubs. The Owls could do with a few more points. Johnson

scored his fourth goal in four games. Leeds came charging back in

the second-half. Two quick goals from a former Hillsborough loanee

gave United three precious points. Both from crosses supplied by

McCormack. The defeat keeps Wednesday on their toes. We have

work to do. We will do that as a group, staff and players altogether

am we are looking forward to the future. We stopped playing our

tempo. We allowed them to score two goals. Huddersfield have been

dropping points in games they have been dominating. Town fan also have

feared the worse when they fell behind to Wolves. The balance of

the game swung after a superb individual effort by Scanlon. Town

wrapped up a priceless victory, both scored by Jermaine Beckford.

His second was came from a kick-off. Not so good for Barnsley. This was

a disastrous day at the Oakwell Office against Charlton. Pritchard

scored. We will spare Red fans the horror by showing them the sixth

and last goal for the visitors. Barnsley need to put this one

behind them. We finish at the top of the table as Hull City

strengthened their hold at promotion place at Ipswich Town.

Brady didn't ask any questions. Ipswich equallised through this

Wordsworth header. This header ensured Hull City are now hot

favourites to return to the Premier League. Hull City six points clear

of Watford now. Surely, the Premier League beckons? There is Leeds,

back in the top half of the Championship. That victory means

it's panic over for now. Wednesday, they have a four-point gap. They

should be OK. A huge win for Huddersfield. They are two points

above the relegation gone. Barnsley now sit there after yesterday's

thumping in. The story at the moment is Hull City, your former

club, a fabulous finish, they are club, a fabulous finish, they are

said in my column, if they get something out of today, after the

set back against Watford... I love the celebrations. It's a fantastic

club. Now rairz raise when people ask me on the street if they will

go up, I think they will. Leeds United got Brian McDermott. Brian

surprised he got sacked at Reading, to be honest with you. He has an

Late Kick Off missed out on Bradford's February trip to Wembley

by two weeks, but it's starting to look as though they're in with a

real shout of a return next month. And, with a different Cup in mind,

Paul Burland paid a visit to home of Bradford's joint-Chairman Mark

Lawn. Leeds are all mine when we did the kitchen. I can't work an

Aga. Too complicated. Mark Lawn has worked as a chef, on building sites

and as a driver. A shelf-made millionaire he insists on a job

well done, even down to the perfect cup of coffee. There you go. You

should take pride in what you do. If you do that, you do it well and

succeed. That is the frustrating part of my job with other people.

Perhaps, they don't have that endeavour and get awhich with

wanting to do as little as possible. I don't really have time for people

like that. Which is probably a bad thing! Seven weeks ago, Bradford's

co-owner came close to getting his hands on another cup. It was

torture. Absolute torture. I love my club. I had an awful feeling

that we'd pushed our luck a little bit too far. It came that way. The

fans, magnificent. fans, magnificent.

something this year. The ultimate aim for us as a club is to get

These are the games you want to be involved in as a player. It was a

fantastic game all round. A real end of the season where both teams

have a chance of getting in that final play-off position. Great to

alive for both clubs. Promotion can make a man do strange things.

go to the game. It will be a great game. We sat here over the last few

weeks talking about Nigel Worthington and how he was

struggling. It seems to have come right. A wonderful win? Yeah. It

does Bradford good and Rotherham, beating Northampton. Watching the

results came through. Delighted when York went ahead. The ball got
