Episode 9 Late Kick Off Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

water, you know. Welcome to the they are being back to Wembley,

again! They think it's all over- it is now! And, it's the world's

friendliest pitch invasion. Hello again.

It's a fabulous finish to the late Late Kick Off season and with me to

enjoy the drama tonight a happy former Bradford and Barnsley man,

our regular friend, John Hendrie. Alongside John is the former

Huddersfield and Hull boss, Brian Horton.

Brian was assistant at the Tigers during their last promotion to the

Premier League, and this is the last I'm going to plug twitter this

series @georgeyboy gets me and the producer loves his twitter friends

too, get him via @bbclkoyl. So where on earth to start?

Well, we're going to open with Bradford City.

At the end of February they were the first fourth tier side to reach a

major Wembley final in over four decades.

Now, they're going back. 3-2 down from the first leg to

Burton, City were simply sensational this afternoon and Derm Tanner was

there. They came in numbers again. Desperate to keep their

extraordinary season going. Hopeful of overturning the deficit from the

first leg last Thursday. First leg we were poor, but we will turn it

around, won't we? Absolutely.So... Can this team Burton Albion by one

goal, of course they can. I believe we can do it. Nervous, big time.

Thursday night, 3-2 down, not bad because we were shocking. Nerves

were strained when Stahl ya was a menace in the beginning of the

match. Holness hadn't seen this, match. Holness hadn't seen this,

that levelled the tie 3-3. Within four minutes of the second-half City

were again. Wells and Hanson combining, 2-0 on the day. 4-3 to

City overall, the first time they had led in the tie. It looked in

doubt again when Thompson up-ended Maghoma who then scored from the

penalty spot. 2-1 to City on the day. Now, 4-4 on aggregate. The

unplayable duo of Hannson and Wells were at it once more. Advantage

Bradford. This time they held to the end. A spirited fight back, too

strong on the day, City's amazing strong on the day, City's amazing

season refuses to end just yet. we get a goal the game is on. When

you have Wells and Hanson up front, they were fantastic, we have a

chance of getting a goal. We had to keep it as tight as we could at the

back. I felt we had done that. never give in. I was speaking to

someone before the game, even on Thursday, a lesser team might have

gone under in those circumstances. We didn't. We kept going and got the

second goal which kept the tie alive. Today we were magnificent.

Enjoy the feeling now and make sure we rest up and get together for the

final. Amazing feeling. Happy for the fans and the gaffer. Wells and

Hanson combination today unplayable? I mean they null fied us in the

first leg. We help each other, both scorers, it shows our combinations.

We continue to grow. It's a great chance for us. I think we all

deserve it. What age credible season for Bradford City. Make no mistake,

they have achieved something today that not even the big boys can, do

the Arsenals, Manchester Cities, Manchester United, twice to Wembley

in two finals in the same season. No wonder they are going bonkers behind

me. Long time going. Well-deserved as well. They played their hearts

out there. I'm so proud. Knew we do it. I can't believe it, twice in a

season. We have had so many seasons of misery, it's absolutely

fantastic. It's been a 63-game long season so far, now just one more

effort at their second home Wembley and Bradford City can begin their

rise up the leagues once again. Who would bet against them on this form?

Bonkers is the word. Upfront, razor-sharp, good performance?

Hanson and Wells were magnificent. I thought they were unplayable. 39

goals between them, terrific combination. The best combination in

combination. The best combination in a division. Not great defendingNot

at all. Wells was alert. He read the script. This goal here, on his

weaker foot, James Hanson, that is a screamer. Delighted for the big

fella. The job he does for the team, he holds the ball up well. Wells

wouldn't be the same player without James Hanson. James wins everything

in the air... Still needed this to make it certain of another

appearance at Wembley? That is right. The keeper didn't cover

himself in glory on that occasion. Another trip to Wembley. Everybody

has been looking forward to it. Weeks ago getting to the play-offs

or the final we would have laughed at you. You can see the spirit in

the camp everyone is fighting for one another. They have done a

fantastic job. It shows how crucial it was getting out of a bad night on

Thursday. Let's look towards Wembley Thursday. Let's look towards Wembley

against Northampton? You can't take anything for granted. That is gone.

Burton had the best home record in the league this season, they got

turned over today. Everything goes out the window, doesn't it?en

they weren't happy with the performance. They won everything

today. They won the headers, the tackles and fully deserved it.

We've got the one of the most exciting finishes to a season in

Championship history. From top to bottom, Yorkshire was

partying. So, to the Championship.

We'll start at the top. Just three years ago Hull were in

the Premier League. Since then, they've been just days away from

financial meltdown, but a new owner and a new manager have steered the

Tigers back to the top league. The scenario was simple. Hull had to

match or better Watford's result against Leeds, but as Paul Barnes

reports it's often more entertaining to do it the hard way. Tensions,

excitement, belief. Hull fans arrived at the KC Stadium hoping to

watch their club get promotion. Hull's form hasn't been great, they

haven't even scored in their last three matches, their destiny is in

their own hands. A win at gnome Cardiff this afternoon and they are

back in the big time. This is bigger than the last time. We went to

Wembley last time and did it there. This is bigger. I'm sweating a bit.

I really am. Tension is getting to me. It is, I hardly slept last

night. If we don't do it today, I don't want to think about it, you

know. Come on! Come on! You were the hero the last time Hull were

promoted would be the hero this afternoon? Someone could be a legend

in Hull it takes the status off me. A massive game. Hopefully Hull will

score the winning goal. If you win the game, brilliant. It's fantastic.

If you don't, obviously it's not a disgrace you are in the play-offs.

You have to win the game today that is the most important thing.

With the match at Watford running 15 minutes behind it was a nervous wait

to see if Leeds could give their fellow Yorkshiremen a helping hand.

Thanks to the efforts of Ross McCormack, and a howler from

Watford's keeper, United's 2-1 victory prompted wild celebrations

there going to be any more dramas? We can enjoy the next few two

nights. I thought we weren't going to do it at the end. The lads

mean? You grow up wanting to play in those games. To get there, it's

frightening. Look at this? Unbelievable. Everything you ever

dream of. That is why you play the game. That is why I came here to

play Premiership football. It means so much to everyone. One of my

brightest moments in my life. We achieved what we wanted, spend the

money, spend a lot of money for this, for my people here. It's

worthwhile to see all these fans all these people from my community. I

feel like pay back. Cardiff converted theirs moments later what

was going through your head? What the hell am I doing this for? Is it

better to be working for BBC Radio Five Live and sitting next to Alan

Green? It's quite incredible. I've been at the club 12 months. After

it's 100 year history it has never done anything easy. To be promoted

for the first time to get this way rather than play-offs is terrific.

see the fans saying- don't want to go through the Wembley thing again.

Great if you win and go through that way, anybody would tell you they

would rather do it automatic. can breathe a huge sigh of relief

and enjoy that hangover and prepare for the Premier League.

If you think it was tight at the top, it was even more ridiculous at

the wrong end of the Championship. Huddersfield, Millwall, Wednesday,

Barnsley and Peterborough all knew they could go down on the final day

and to make matters worse, Barnsley had to play Huddersfield, at

Huddersfield. Paul Burland witnessed two Yorkshire

foes become the best of friends. I wonder how many football fans have

spent this morning going through cup boards looking around for something

like this, the pocket radio. It comes out once a year for most fans,

today is definitely the day. Will you listen to the radio today?

As long as I can get a Consigniaal in my phone I will check out social

media and various apps. Everybody will be do doing it on their

iPhones. -- signal. We will try to get the sound through the lads

behind the goals. Hopefully they will get the message to us.

Important we get that message, you want to know what is going on. We

have two different strategies if it's going well or not. Fell have

been planning the strategies all this week. The Barnsley manager took

a shine to my technology it was handed over to aid the communication

effort. Have you got one? No.Would effort. Have you got one? No.Would

you like one? Definitely, yeah. There was tension elsewhere.

Sheffield Wednesday needed a win against Middlesbrough to guarantee

safety. This pass helped to send them in the right direction. Steve

Howard has scored for Sheffield Wednesday. Back at Huddersfield it

was Barnsley doing the early rung. They were rewarded when Chris

O'Grady slotted home in the 14th minute. At Hillsborough, Sheffield

Wednesday had effectively wrapped up survival after 30 minutes. Into the

near-post. Leeds have the final touch. It stayed 2-0 at

Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday safe. It was far from over for

Huddersfield and Barnsley fans. A half-time check of the scores

revealed that Crystal Palace and Peter were drawing and Millwall --

Peterborough were drawing. . Huddersfield level through Jermaine

Beckford. It meant Huddersfield would now be safe, but Barnsley

would be relegated. That syncing feeling got worse when 10 minutes

later Peterborough took the lead at Crystal Palace. Back in Huddersfield

Barnsley leapfrogged their hosts. Perkins set up Jason Scotland to

the drop-zone. Back they came. An element of fortune for Vaughan. The

radios and phones started to play their part. Word was spreading of

developments between Palace and Peterborough.

COMMENTATOR: Huddersfield Town look as if they could be staying in the

Championship. Barnsley are fighting for their lives as well.

COMMENTATOR: Still in Palace's possession. Phillips. Kevin

Phillips, there's nobody quite like them. They seem safe Peterborough,

now it's worry time. There has been a goal at Pride Park now. Ward

dangerous going forward. Sammon on as a substitute. He scored for Derby

County. It's Derby 1, Millwall 0. With Pete borough -- Peterborough

drawing, there came more news from Palace. Jedinak A goal elsewhere.

fans applauded each other's efforts, news finally arrived that

Peterborough had been beaten and Peterborough had been beaten and

they would go down, not Barnsley. The best thing I've done in

football. Overrides the Cup, any season before, that the position we

were in, people didn't give us a chance. Speechless. I mean, went

ahead twice. They pulled it back. Fair play them. Quality in their

side. We knew that. I thought we deserved to win today, to be honest.

It has been an incredible run of results, sequence of results. I feel

proud to be Barnsley's manager tonight. That was the most

unbelievable 95/96 minutes I have ever gone through in a game of

football, honestly. It was incredible. One of those games.

Thankfully we both came out safe. times this season it looked bleak

for three of Yorkshire's teams, at the end of an amazing afternoon they

all avoided the drop. What a day the Barnsley players are still there

kissing themselves. Let us check and confirm how the table finished,

confirm how the table finished, emotional for all concerned. I just

watched it, Barnsley relegation zone, Peterborough, Huddersfield it

swung all afternoon. Exciting stuff. Great for our region that they have

stayed up there. For the supporters as well the emotions. There was a

love-in. Yorkshire love-in thanking... I don't foe if one of

them had gone down we would see scenes like that It's nice to see

the fact that Huddersfield fans went on the pitch and the Barnsley crowds

applauding. Pleased for them both. He took the job on when they looked

dead. A word on David and the job he has done? I was down there last week

and a supporter asked me, should he get the job? For me it is a no

brainer. They were dead and buried. He got them battling for one another

as well. You can see how much he means for him. He is a hungry young

manager who wants to do well. His desire comes out in his team.

next season? He has to build. He has took over a side that were really

rock bottom out of it. I saw them play at Man City I thought it would

cost them. He brought it round. To do that on the last Saturday, it was

going Barnsley down, Peterborough down, Huddersfield down, Millwall

were being dragged into it. Great viewing.

So to Sheffield United in the League One play-offs.

This could well be our top story if circumstances elsewhere had been

more mundane. Apologies then to Blades fans, but

events elsewhere have had to take priority tonight. Sheffield United

priority tonight. Sheffield United are where they want to be? They are

where they need to be. It took a slight deflection. Everyone needs

luck. They will go to Yeovil. They are strong at home. United are

better on their travels than they are at Bramall Lane. They have won

at Yeovil this season. For me, it's final -- finely balanced. Tough one

to call. He enjoyed that, Morgan. They had penalty appeals it could

have been more than the one goal advantage? Hard for the referees.

This one, I thought that might have been harsh. The Sheffield United

player has gone down easily for me. I thought that would have been a

harsh one. They are pulling each other. It's hard for a referee,

particularly of a game of that importance, to make a decision.

about this one then? This one, I think is a definite penalty. I

believe he has fractured a rib. him done now, isn't it? He sees him

coming. The referee has great vision of that. For me, that is a penalty.

Yeovil have never scored at home against Sheffield United?

earlier in the season. I have played with Chris, his manager as well, if

his team have half of his character his team have half of his character

then they will be all right. All I hope in a few weeks time they make

the play-offs what a weekend it will be for the Yorkshire teams. Let's

hope it's United. Morgan took over, one-off games, to put fire in the

players' belly he has to be the man That is the way he played. I fell

for Danny. I knew Danny for a long time. They are in the play-offs with

two games in hand at the time, a couple of defeats either way, I felt

sorry for Danny when they got a chance of still going up. That is

football. They have a chance of getting to Wembley.
