Episode 8 Late Kick Off Yorkshire and Lincolnshire

everyone is laughing, this is Late football season in history? It

certainly was for Doncaster. It's sheer hell for Hull. Barnsley are

bouncing. The Millers reach League One. Who is this bloke on the pitch?

drama. Doncaster have had seven days to

stew over what could have been if they'd beaten Notts County last

weekend, but at least when they went to Brentford yesterday they knew

exactly what they needed to get automatic promotion.

The game produced a finish of which Michael Thomas and Sergio Aguero

would have been proud. Paul Barnes was in store for a

simple- avoid defeat at Brentford and enjoy a summer preparing for

Championship football. In this game, it is never straight-forward. The

Bees with a great home record against Rovers, the best team in

League One on their travels. Something had to give. Love you

Rovers, we do. Here we are at Brentford, hottest ticket in town.

You cannot buy one of these. Will you do the business today? Yes.What

will the score be? 3-0. Chance of promotion on the last day of season.

We would snap their hand off if we could do that. Very excited. Not at

all nervous. The Vikings have come to town to take the three points.

I'm optimistic. I think we might do terrific atmosphere the Rovers' fans

are in full voice. They believe their team has it what it takes to

get over the finishing line. It's up minutes for Donny to hang on and

secure a return to the Championship. # Rovers came close to grabbing an

opening goal but failed to convert. In the dying moments of

stoppage-time, a minute of incredible drama.

COMMENTATOR: It's a scramble. In the end the ball will break. The referee

has given a penalty. The referee has given at penalty right at the death.

Doncaster Rovers protest. Brentford have gone absolutely bananas. What a

nervous moment this is for trot FA he has hit the bar. He has hit the

crossbar. He missed it. There is a scramble in the six-yard box.

Cleared by Doncaster. Cleared to the half-way line. The break is on.

Billy Paynter is on the edge of the penalty area. He could win

promotion. Coppinger put it into the empty net. Doncaster have won

promotion to the Championship. What drama! Penalty missed at one end.

like that in my life. I just thought, all the season's hard work

we gave it away. The best feeling I've ever had. You were facing that

penalty, what was going through your head? Miss, please miss. I have been

playing for years and years and years, that is unbelievable.

Unbelievable. I can't put it into words. Unbelievable. Best feeling of

my life in football. Unbelievable. What did you think? I thought it had

gone. Unbelievable. We are champions as well. All the lads deserve it.

They have worked so hard throughout the season. I wish all the lads

success and the fans. The fans are brilliant. They must have been

biting their nails throughout the game. We needed luck. The lads have

worked so hard. Our gameplan was spot on. We have lads who can break

away. We have done it all season. Best team in the country away from

home. It doesn't lie. They deserve everything they get. Fantastic.

Couldn't have come across a more workman like inspirational team

ever. Fantastic, every single one of ever. Fantastic, every single one of

Down to the last 30 seconds of the season. Brentford had a penalty. If

they scored it they were automatically promoted. They missed.

Doncaster score, they are champions. We'll talk through that miracle of

Griffin Park in a moment, but first here's the rest of our League one

action. Paul Burland starts at Scunthorpe

where the mood could not have been where the mood could not have been

more different. Scunthorpe's hopes of survival were not in their own

hands as they took on Swindon Town. They had to win. They were also

relying on Carlisle beat beating Colchester United. Scunthorpe did

their part by beating Swindon with their three goals all coming in the

final three minutes of the game. It counted for nothing with Colchester

winning 2-0. A return to League Two for the first time since 2005.

this one game our season. It's about 46 games. We haven't been good

enough over those 46 games. Sheffield United go into the

play-offs next weekend on the back of a third successive game where

they failed to score. If they had beaten Preston United would have had

a home tie in the second leg against Yeovil. As it is, given the lack of

form and the sacking of Danny Wilson, United fans are probably

relieved they are in with as chance of promotion at all. That is 21

cleansheets for this season. Which is a new club record. For the back

four that is a great accolade to have. I know, at times, people can

look at that and think that is a negative. Maybe we have kept so many

cleansheets that is why we have not scored goals. If you have a team

that are hard to break down and hard to score against, with the players

we have, we will always create season for Doncaster Rovers. Have

budget was slashed massively this season from last year. When you get

relegated it will happen. Dean steadied the ship and brought in

good players, Brian took them over the line. Scunthorpe go down despite

victory at the weekend. Brian said it wasn't about this game or the

last couple of games about not being good enough over the course of the

season, we saw that? You aim for 50 points. Scunthorpe didn't get.

Fantastic result yesterday. It was too late, Colchester was winning. It

was the flip side of the coin from what Doncaster have. You would be

gutted this weekend. When the dust settles will you be worried? They

will be strong favourites to come back up next season depending on the

budget as far as bringing in players. All season they have

struggled at home when Neil took over they have struggled all season.

Brian has come in at a difficult stage in the club season, he has

tried to steady the ship. It hasn't happened. The play-offs for

Sheffield United, not play-off form this, Chris Morgan going on about

the great ability to shut out and keep cleansheets they haven't

season. It's not ideal going in like this. Sheffield United's record in

the play-offs is poor, they have been there six times and not won

promotion yet. The Blades went up to fifth place and have Yeovil. They

could have had Brentford. After what happened to Brentford they may not

have been a bad team to play over two legs. You areYou have to go

into the play-offs in a rich vein of form. They have struggled. It has

been tough for Chris when he came in. They haven't scored in three

games. That is a big worry in the play-offs with two games to get

goals, basically, to get to the final. They are not scoring... Great

when the back four and the goalkeeper are keeping cleansheets

you have to score at the end to win United? Without what happened on

Saturday wide have fancied Brentford. It depends how they react

With Watford winning on Friday night, Hull needed a win at Barnsley

to confirm they'd be playing in England's top division next year,

but with the Tykes still scrapping for their Championship lives, Hull

knew they'd get no favours from their Yorkshire neighbours.

Paul Burland was at sundrenched Oakwell. Today is the day? It is the

which the champagne is still on ice. Barnsley, fighting for their lives,

had other ideas. We are staying up. Of course we are. We are going to

win 2-1. Over 6,000 Hull fans travelled to Oakwell to see two

sides at opposite ends of the Championship. It was Barnsley who

looked more like promotion who faced the bottom three in their

last three games, have failed to find the net on each occasion. It

got worse for Steve Bruce's side at the start of the second-half as

Dagnall teed up Chris O'Grady. As hopes of survival swept through the

Barnsley fans, utter degeneral election enveloped the Hull end.

Despite a late flurry of activity this was not the occasion they

can see why they have done so well since the turn of the year. That is

the worry to us, the lack of cutting edge we find at the moment. We have

a week to put that right. We have a big game next week. It is going back

to the wire. Still all to play for. We beat good teams to get a points

total of 54 is something at the minute we are proud of. We have one

more to go. A massive game to go. What I was pleased about is the

energy we played at. We got that from the training ground. We have

not had a week where we can plan it. Some of the players have looked out

on their feet we have ground results out. Today that was a pleasure to

witness. When you get that as a coach/manager they are special days.

Again, we'll talk Hull's mini crisis and Barnsley's mini miracle in a

moment. There were other Yorkshire sides in

Championship action yesterday. Leeds were already safe, but

Wednesday and Huddersfield still need points to be certain of safety.

at home next week to Barnsley will ensure they will be playing

Championship football next year. They took the lead after two minutes

through Vaughan. He got his second with this header 11 minutes later.

the out going Chairman. When he arrived they were a mid-table

Championship, that is where he leaves him. His time in charge was

marked by court case, administration, one relegation, one

promotion he will be remembered for the dashed homes of most Leeds

United supporters. So Hull still have promotion in

their own hands, but they've stuttered terribly in recent weeks,

even a point against Cardiff next Saturday might not be enough.

At the bottom, well how is it possible that Barnsley have 54

points yet are still in the bottom three?

Wednesday are also still in a lot a trouble and Huddersfield on 57 still

can't say they're safe. business against the big sides.

Hat-trick of wins against the top four teams? Yes they are on a great

run. Since the turn of the year they have the fourth best form in the

Championship they are 54 points, they should be safe by now. The

afterwards, it was the fifth anniversary of his dad passing away.

He had been to the grave and said he wanted to do his dad's memory

justice. He brings the passion and it is filtering through to his

players. You sat there seven days ago and I said, Hull aren't going to

mess this up, are they? Starting to worry now. The togetherness for

Barnsley, I didn't fancy them yesterday. That is a Hull City fan.

I didn't fancy them. I don't know where the goals will come from. I

might have to get my boots out next week. It is not that bad, is it?The

top goalscorer with nine goals, that tells you everything. When you are

on that negative spiral, the play remembers now, you can't wait for

the season to finish. I'm hoping that Cardiff have their flip flops

on and don't care. It will not be like. That I can see Watford beating

Leeds. We talk about momentum, they are flying now. Big one was the

Bristol City game. If we beat Bristol City we would have been

there now. It will be tough now. Reason for concern at the moment.

Sheffield Wednesday, whether or not they do have real reason for concern

there are jitters there, listening to that interview Dave Jones gave,

he is feeling it a little bit, that was very prickly It was. Raw emotion

straight after the game. When they won at Millwall three weeks ago I

thought they were safe, everything sorted out. The one thing in their

favour is that they have Middlesbrough. They are stinking the

place out at the moment in the Championship. You wouldn't have

thought they had gone to Millwall and get a great result like that.

two crucial issues to resolve. Would York stay in the Football

promotion in their first year at the New York Stadium?

state of mind Miller fans would be in. At Rotherham the pitch invasion

the Chairman, Tony Stewart. York City ferned their first year back in

the Football League in 17th place. Technically, that is right. It's

less than half the story. In reality the Minstermen confirmed they would

stay in the League after yesterday's win at Dagenham. As it turned out,

York had enough points before kick-off. This season has been far

too close for comfort. Hopefully next year York will be challenging

at the other end of the table. ban tough, tough season,

up-and-downs. It has been nearly, nearly so good with all the draws

that could have been wins. Just delighted for the fans. Unbelievable

all season, especially today. Bradford and Cheltenham were in the

play-offs. That probably contributed to the rather drab nature of this

scoreless draw. Neither goalkeeper had much to do. The sides will be

hoping they meet at Wembley in three weeks' time. Chesterfield said

goodbye to fans favourite jack lester in real style with this 4-0

thumping of Exeter City. O'Shea opening the scoring with a 2 5 yard

strike before Richards header doubled the lead. Leicester made it

three from the spot after 34 minutes. He ferned his time in

north-east Derbyshire by completing the scoring. Leicester will be much

missed around these parts. Rotherham then, they finish in third

and will play in League One next year.

Well done to the Millers. Bradford knew already they were in

the play-offs, and Chesterfield are very unlucky to have missed out.

York, in 17th. It almost looks like it's been an

we? When Nigel took over we were sat here and worried for them. Nigel can

do his business now and start bringing in players. We have players

we don't want there. Great they have stayed up. Nigel declared himself,

pleased, relieved and delighted over the 10 games. Can you put in context

what has changed under Nigel? Endening the losing run, that was

the big one. When they went down in 2004 they didn't win any of the last

20 games. It was beginning to look that way. They look safe now. I was

there against Southend when they beat them 2-1, there were a lot of

nerves and guts in that side. Bradford a drab goalless draw to

wrap it up? He has gone there, played the full-time, which

surprised me. He didn't really rest anybody. Thursday night now. They

have, when you are playing in the play-offs, you want to play away

delighted with that game. If they can get a couple of goals hopefully
