Hello. Semifinals Saturday at the Masters and the first of our matches

:00:13.:00:40.

featured two left-handers, both hoping to break new ground. They've

:00:41.:00:43.

both been to a Crucible final in Sheffield, but had yet to get

:00:44.:00:47.

through to snooker's biggest night in London. The world number eight,

:00:48.:00:55.

Barry Hawkins, taking on Judd Trump, whose world record-breaking exploits

:00:56.:00:57.

against Neil Robertson in the previous match made him the marginal

:00:58.:01:02.

favourite for success. Commentary comes from former Masters champion

:01:03.:01:05.

Dennis Taylor and John Parrott. DENNIS TAYLOR:

:01:06.:01:20.

Barry did win the toss and he's breaking off in this battle of the

:01:21.:01:28.

left-handers. And the big question, John, is can Judd pick up where he

:01:29.:01:35.

left off yesterday? JOHN PARROTT: Yes, that is the big

:01:36.:01:39.

question. His performance against Neil Robertson was stupendous. It's

:01:40.:01:43.

back to work again today. We were in the studio yesterday and as he was

:01:44.:01:48.

leaving, Stephen Hendry leaned over and said, "You do realise you're

:01:49.:01:53.

only half way through?" Which I thought was a brilliant comment to

:01:54.:01:57.

leave him with -- a nice comment to leave him with, to let him know it

:01:58.:02:00.

was a brilliant performance but there was still more work to do. It

:02:01.:02:06.

can be awkward when you've had a peck performance to come back next

:02:07.:02:11.

day. So we'll find out. I think Judd in one of his interviews earlier in

:02:12.:02:16.

the week said you can beat a player 6-0 and go out and lose 6-0 to the

:02:17.:02:20.

same player the next day. That's the nature of the game of snooker.

:02:21.:02:25.

That's what makes it so fascinating. Very impressive this week, Barry

:02:26.:02:32.

Hawkins. He went through a bit of a lean spell, John. Remember he lost -

:02:33.:02:40.

was it the UK he lost to Nigel Bond? He went from 5-0 in front and lost

:02:41.:02:45.

it 6-5. Took a little bit of getting over, that one. It was interesting

:02:46.:02:48.

listening to the players before they came on. All the players know how

:02:49.:02:53.

good a player Barry Hawkins is. He probably doesn't get the recognition

:02:54.:02:56.

from the public that we all think he deserves. He's a top-class

:02:57.:03:01.

match-player, very rarely plays the wrong shot and everything he does

:03:02.:03:04.

play he plays to a high standard. You've got to beat Barry Hawkins. He

:03:05.:03:07.

doesn't give you too many opportunities. I think he's a

:03:08.:03:12.

top-class match-player and also, Dennis, a very nice lad. Yeah. You

:03:13.:03:17.

heard all the players talking about him. He's a smashing fellow. Can he

:03:18.:03:24.

produce his top game? He knows he'll have to the way Judd has been

:03:25.:03:26.

playing. Good shot from Barry, that. And he's

:03:27.:03:59.

a... Well, you can see the way he's cueing across that slightly. Oh, and

:04:00.:04:05.

he's hit the blue. Foul and a miss. It does look very tight that, the

:04:06.:04:09.

shot that he's trying to play. Judd Trump 5. Sorry - Barry Hawkins 5.

:04:10.:04:14.

The nerves are getting to everyone. A very rare mistake from the most

:04:15.:04:22.

experienced referee we have! There you see him just catching the edge

:04:23.:04:26.

of the blue. So there's no red available so he'll have it put back.

:04:27.:04:29.

These are really tricky, aren't they? Because obviously you've got

:04:30.:04:33.

to get this absolutely right. Judd will help the referee as much as he

:04:34.:04:37.

can but the edge he's trying to clip here really is very fine. Just watch

:04:38.:04:41.

Judd when he plays this again. Shaun Murphy mentioned his cue action. He

:04:42.:04:46.

says he lines up across the ball and then it sits as he straightens up. I

:04:47.:04:51.

always think these situations, Dennis, it's really, really

:04:52.:04:54.

difficult, isn't it, to get the cue ball exactly right here? Yeah, he's

:04:55.:04:59.

making it worse for himself there. You don't want to take an advantage

:05:00.:05:04.

but you're absolutely right, it's so difficult to get it absolutely spot

:05:05.:05:11.

on. I know it's got to be fractions... Even bringing it up on

:05:12.:05:16.

the screen is not going to help in this instance, I think. It's only

:05:17.:05:20.

fractions we're talking about. Yeah, the players here

:05:21.:05:21.

fractions we're talking about. Yeah, as well. There's one thing Judd will

:05:22.:05:25.

not want to do is to get any advantage from this here. He'll want

:05:26.:05:30.

it to be absolutely spot on, exactly as it was. It's like an unwritten

:05:31.:05:34.

rule between the players, Dennis, isn't it? Yeah. He can obviously hit

:05:35.:05:39.

it because he wouldn't have played the shot. On we go so, if he's

:05:40.:05:45.

having... Well, he's changing his mind now. He may just decide to drop

:05:46.:05:50.

on the top red on the top cushion instead. It's too tight.

:05:51.:05:58.

Good shot. Once again, Dennis, this venue has a an absolutely packed

:05:59.:06:16.

audience today. Wonderful crowds we've had at Alexandra Palace this

:06:17.:06:21.

week. I always think this is one of the great sporting events, Saturday

:06:22.:06:26.

afternoon at the Masters. It takes me bake to David Vine here and Ted

:06:27.:06:34.

Lowe in the commentary box on Grandstand when I was a kid. I

:06:35.:06:37.

always wished I could be here playing. Brilliant occasion.

:06:38.:06:55.

APPLAUSE Judged that to perfection. Watch the

:06:56.:07:03.

cue action here. You'll see Judd, he'll be down on the shot and he'll

:07:04.:07:07.

just go slightly across this. It's just one of the straights of his

:07:08.:07:11.

particular cue action. It doesn't stop him playing well. It's just the

:07:12.:07:15.

way he does it. It is a little different. It's turning into a

:07:16.:07:26.

little bit of an awkward frame, with the black now tied up.

:07:27.:07:37.

APPLAUSE And he won't mind a bit of a safety

:07:38.:07:47.

battle here, Barry. It will help him to settle into the semifinal and

:07:48.:07:51.

keep his opponent away from the table, but he might knock this in.

:07:52.:07:58.

It comes close. Where's it going to finish? That's the question. He's

:07:59.:08:01.

going to stick it up over the middle, so the first chance falls to

:08:02.:08:04.

Barry. He's got an angle on the blue but he

:08:05.:08:25.

wouldn't be guaranteed good position on a red. He's got the pink and blue

:08:26.:08:31.

in the open. Yeah. Dennis, I think if there was a red over the pocket

:08:32.:08:35.

somewhere, he'd be playing the cannon straightaway to get the black

:08:36.:08:40.

in play but, as there isn't, he'll try and sort something else out. He

:08:41.:08:49.

got the bottom red just away from the bunch there he can play off,

:08:50.:08:52.

back up for the blue. A little bit too close for comfort,

:08:53.:09:36.

that red towards the corner there, he must have thought as he played

:09:37.:09:39.

that cannon. But it's all right. And a nice little shot with a bit of

:09:40.:09:49.

side up for the pink. And he looks comfortable. You'd expect it.

:09:50.:09:53.

side up for the pink. And he looks top-class match-player. If you reach

:09:54.:09:55.

the final of the World Championship, you can play, and you can certainly

:09:56.:09:58.

handle the situation as well. It's always nice in the opening frame to

:09:59.:10:06.

get your hand on the table. I'll tell you what is amazing

:10:07.:10:08.

get your hand on the table. I'll John - how many of the top players

:10:09.:10:12.

are left-handed. Going way back, there was only one or two players

:10:13.:10:19.

and even in this tournament alone, you've got these two players. You've

:10:20.:10:23.

I suppose you could say Ronnie got Neil Robertson, Mark Allen, Mark

:10:24.:10:40.

I suppose you could say Ronnie O'Sullivan's left-handed as well,

:10:41.:10:41.

when he wants to be! I mentioned the other night when we

:10:42.:10:55.

were in the studio, I think it was talking about Barry, saying there's

:10:56.:10:58.

an economy of effort with the cue ball. That's because his

:10:59.:11:02.

break-building is very good. He wants to keep the cue ball in

:11:03.:11:05.

towards the object ball, nice and tight. And that's the art of

:11:06.:11:09.

break-building. If you can make it look simple, then you're doing it

:11:10.:11:11.

correctly. He's got a lovely touch. Doesn't have to worry about that

:11:12.:11:42.

black now. He's got the reds nicely placed and the pink in the open.

:11:43.:11:47.

And if he could win this opening frame with one visit, it would send

:11:48.:11:55.

a message out to Judd. I mean the only ball he could leave the way he

:11:56.:12:00.

played it was the one that he attempted to pot. And on that

:12:01.:12:06.

occasion, it did finish over the middle pocket and this is the

:12:07.:12:10.

result. Yeah, they've got an interesting head to head, these two.

:12:11.:12:15.

They've only played on four occasions and it's currently 2-2. So

:12:16.:12:22.

he won't be in total awe of the talents of Judd Trump, will Barry

:12:23.:12:26.

Hawkins. He's beaten him a couple of times before and knows he can do it

:12:27.:12:30.

again. He's taken these nicely so far.

:12:31.:13:07.

So this the obvious red, then. The blue is potable in the middle also.

:13:08.:13:24.

Just dropping the pink in and got the red on the right-hand side, so

:13:25.:13:32.

that'll be next. He's taking these beautifully, Dennis, isn't he?

:13:33.:13:35.

Lovely touch. And if he can knock this in and get nicely on the pink,

:13:36.:13:40.

it will be the end of the opening frame.

:13:41.:13:57.

It looks as if we're in for another cracking match here, the way Barry

:13:58.:14:21.

has started. Just looking at the scoreboard, but he's over the line,

:14:22.:14:28.

the winning line, at the moment. That makes absolutely certain. Well,

:14:29.:14:35.

hugely impressive, this. He's visited the table with a chance and

:14:36.:14:42.

he's won the frame off it. Very impressive indeed.

:14:43.:14:47.

APPLAUSE And if Judd Trump was in any doubt

:14:48.:14:52.

about how his opponent was going to be playing today, he's just found

:14:53.:15:01.

out. Excellent. And if that red next to the black is available, we're a

:15:02.:15:19.

chance of a century break. The crowd were urging that red to

:15:20.:15:22.

keep running there. Pink's the better ball to get on to

:15:23.:16:06.

that final red. His standard this week has been absolutely stellar, it

:16:07.:16:12.

really has. These boys really are good.

:16:13.:16:27.

What a way to start a Fantastic break from Barry Hawkins!

:16:28.:16:38.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE 103. That's the 11th century in this

:16:39.:16:47.

year's Masters. Or the 21st century, I should say. 31 is the record.

:16:48.:17:21.

It has to be said these tables are playing beautifully, this one and

:17:22.:17:27.

the tables in the practice area. I had a knock around on them. They're

:17:28.:17:31.

absolutely beautiful. What a start from Barry Hawkins!

:17:32.:17:44.

Judd Trump attempted the long pot. He didn't get it and he remained in

:17:45.:17:48.

his seat as Barry cleared the table with a magnificent break of 130. And

:17:49.:17:52.

he leads 1-0. APPLAUSE

:17:53.:18:12.

Well, not the break-off like he intended but fortunate enough to

:18:13.:18:15.

cover the red that's come up to the blue with the brown, so just into

:18:16.:18:19.

the side of the pack. Well, he's playing it off the two cushions just

:18:20.:18:24.

to guard against leaving the loose red, which is a better shot. I know

:18:25.:18:31.

one thing though, Dennis, Judd Trump must be getting fed up of watching

:18:32.:18:34.

everyone play brilliant against him, because Neil Robertson did

:18:35.:18:37.

yesterday. And it took a performance that was as good as I've seen from

:18:38.:18:42.

Judd to knock out the Australian. And as Barry started with 130, Judd

:18:43.:18:48.

must be thinking, "Is anyone ever going to miss against me?"

:18:49.:18:57.

Yeah, I thought Neil's interview afterwards was first class. He said,

:18:58.:19:03.

"You've got to hold your hand up when a player plays like that."

:19:04.:19:07.

Meanwhile, he hasn't played the best of safety shots. OK, it's close to

:19:08.:19:12.

the cushion, but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't slot this

:19:13.:19:17.

one in. APPLAUSE

:19:18.:19:27.

I don't think this red to the left of the bunch is available. He's got

:19:28.:19:35.

an angle but he'd have to be very precise to hit the pink full ball.

:19:36.:19:40.

It's not the perfect angle, but he may have to attempt it. It might be

:19:41.:19:50.

OK, that. Yeah. APPLAUSE

:19:51.:19:57.

It was difficult to judge that one, John, wasn't it? Yeah. I mean that

:19:58.:20:01.

couldn't have come out any better. The only thing with that shot is

:20:02.:20:04.

sometimes you can flick the ball in the corner pocket, but the way that

:20:05.:20:08.

ran round there, you couldn't have asked for any more. In the match

:20:09.:20:15.

yesterday, Judd Trump was the one that was making all the running,

:20:16.:20:20.

wasn't he? Going two frames ahead and getting pegged back by Neil

:20:21.:20:22.

Robertson. But different today, so far. OK, he's only lost the first

:20:23.:20:29.

frame, but it was the way Barry went about it that put down his intent.

:20:30.:21:05.

He was a bit reluctant to play for the black there because he knew the

:21:06.:21:11.

bunch of reds weren't ideally placed to cannon into off the black. That's

:21:12.:21:16.

why he changed his mind and played for the blue. And I don't think he

:21:17.:21:23.

can hold for the blue this time. He would have liked to have and then

:21:24.:21:29.

gone into the pink again, but I'm not sure he can hold. Just

:21:30.:21:34.

wondering, Dennis, whether those two reds at the back of the pack as well

:21:35.:21:38.

are easily made into a plant. I don't know if he's had a look at

:21:39.:21:42.

those, Barry, but, if they're not, he'll be playing the cannon in...

:21:43.:21:48.

Well, we can see that they're not a plant into the pocket, so a nice

:21:49.:21:52.

firm stun into these. That's where you hit the ball when you play a

:21:53.:21:58.

firm stun into these. That's where stun shot. And that will do very

:21:59.:22:00.

nicely. APPLAUSE

:22:01.:22:06.

Terrific shot there. Right in the centre and you punch the

:22:07.:22:09.

Terrific shot there. Right in the played that perfectly. Yeah. Type of

:22:10.:22:12.

screw instead, you can hit the pack screw instead, you can hit the pack

:22:13.:22:16.

and bring the cue ball back towards the top cushion. So you stun it

:22:17.:22:20.

and bring the cue ball back towards with a little bit of side and bring

:22:21.:22:24.

the cue ball up the table. He couldn't have played that much

:22:25.:22:25.

better. His nickname is The Hawk, and I can

:22:26.:22:43.

tell you what, he's certainly got his eye in at the moment, that's for

:22:44.:22:46.

sure. What's impressive for me, Dennis, is

:22:47.:23:03.

his demeanour looks as cool as anything out there. Not a bit

:23:04.:23:07.

flustered. It looks like he's really enjoying the occasion. Well, as some

:23:08.:23:12.

of the players were saying, he's such a laidback character. He's a

:23:13.:23:17.

bit like - what would you say? - a mini Mark Williams? He dresses much

:23:18.:23:25.

better than Mark, that's for sure! Who doesn't?!

:23:26.:23:47.

And just talking about Mark Williams, what a performance he but

:23:48.:23:55.

in -- he put in in this year's Masters. He almost knocked out

:23:56.:23:58.

Ronnie O'Sullivan. Yeah, he's one of my favourite

:23:59.:24:05.

players to watch on the circuit, Mark. I think he's very clever, the

:24:06.:24:09.

way he plays the game. A wonderful touch and still playing at the top

:24:10.:24:15.

of the game, which is great credit to him. Meanwhile, Barry Hawkins is

:24:16.:24:22.

going about his business in a very impressive fashion here. Cannon to

:24:23.:24:30.

flick the red out just above and to the left of the black, should open a

:24:31.:24:41.

red below it. The cue ball has run away there. Didn't get the cannon.

:24:42.:24:46.

Wanted a thicker cannon than that one. Certainly not on the intended

:24:47.:24:51.

red and these are a little tricky when you get close to them and you

:24:52.:24:55.

can't see the pocket in your eyeline, so this red in the centre

:24:56.:25:02.

wants a little bit of respect. In the end, he made it look very

:25:03.:25:25.

easy, but very well judged. Is he going to take this second

:25:26.:25:35.

frame with one visit? He keeps his head in the shot,

:25:36.:25:57.

doesn't he, John? He does a lot of things right, Dennis, doesn't he? An

:25:58.:26:00.

all-round top-class player. I must confess, with the record he had here

:26:01.:26:05.

at the Masters, you'd have been hard-pressed to see him here at this

:26:06.:26:08.

stage. He's played five occasions here previously and lost in the

:26:09.:26:11.

first round every time. But after getting past his good pal, Joe

:26:12.:26:17.

Perry, he beat Mark Allen 6-2 with very good match play and Judd Trump

:26:18.:26:20.

knows he's in for a very tough afternoon here, the way his opponent

:26:21.:26:27.

is playing. He can't get better than no-miss snooker. Judd's only had a

:26:28.:26:35.

go at that long red and that's it. He's just sat in his seat the

:26:36.:26:38.

remainder of the time. Surely not. Surely he couldn't start

:26:39.:26:54.

with two centuries. A break of 140, superseding Neil

:26:55.:27:28.

Robertson's 139. Play a little cannon here and flick

:27:29.:27:48.

the other red away from the pink, just put it into play.

:27:49.:28:15.

If that red is not available he can pot this and just flick it out, but

:28:16.:28:22.

he'll want to make sure of the century.

:28:23.:28:30.

He has nudged it out. The red is blocking the way through to the

:28:31.:28:36.

blue, so the pink for his back-to-back centuries.

:28:37.:28:40.

Absolutely brilliant! CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:28:41.:29:02.

This capacity audience, John, came here, they weren't sure what to

:29:03.:29:07.

expect, but I don't think they were expecting two centuries from Barry

:29:08.:29:10.

to start the match off. It's fascinating. You know, this used to

:29:11.:29:17.

be a hard game, Dennis, didn't it? He's making this table look like a

:29:18.:29:21.

pool table, Barry Hawkins, at the minute. Pockets look like they're

:29:22.:29:26.

buckets. His cue ball control has been superb. And you simply cannot

:29:27.:29:32.

play better than this to start a semifinal. Wonderful stuff. We talk

:29:33.:29:43.

about yesterday's match with Neil Robertson being in the greatest

:29:44.:29:48.

match ever in the Masters. The way this has started, who knows how this

:29:49.:29:53.

is going to finish? This could be one of the all-time great matches.

:29:54.:30:00.

Slightly overrun his position there, which is something we haven't said

:30:01.:30:09.

today. But everything has been going into

:30:10.:30:12.

the centre of the pockets. He's not touching the sides. And that tells

:30:13.:30:20.

you you're cueing well. What a shame the black didn't go in but he

:30:21.:30:26.

started with a break of 130. He's followed that up with a break of

:30:27.:30:32.

128. What snooker! And he leads Judd Trump by two frames to nil.

:30:33.:30:48.

break-off shot there. Now, this is a chance, it's a half chance, for a

:30:49.:30:53.

Judd Trump special. But he's been kept off the table. He'll get a

:30:54.:30:57.

great cheer if he can knock CHEERING

:30:58.:31:06.

And that really is top-drawer, to be able to knock that in after what

:31:07.:31:11.

he's just witnessed from his opponent, great credit.

:31:12.:31:17.

Put that camera away, please. Now, Judd, has that gone wrong? I

:31:18.:31:23.

think it has. He's going to have to pull another cracking pot out.

:31:24.:31:28.

They're all covered. This one will go into the left corner, up past the

:31:29.:31:32.

blue. Brilliant. CHEERING

:31:33.:31:40.

Not perfectly on the black, but he'll be going into the reds.

:31:41.:31:49.

It wasn't... On the black as he would have liked. But at least he

:31:50.:31:55.

hasn't left anything easy for Barry. That's one pot on, and he'd need the

:31:56.:32:01.

extension on his cue, the extension on the rest to clip it in. It's the

:32:02.:32:09.

type of shot, really, if you were just dropping it in dead weight,

:32:10.:32:12.

you'd probably pot but the fact you had to play the little screw shot to

:32:13.:32:16.

get the cannon there widened the angle for Judd. It was the first,

:32:17.:32:20.

after he knocked the long great red in, it was the first cannon he

:32:21.:32:25.

overhit and caused a problem there because they looked pretty good, the

:32:26.:32:28.

reds, till he lost position. As you can see, he's got a good

:32:29.:33:42.

angle on the blue. I saw Barry very early this morning. He was in the

:33:43.:33:47.

practice room on his own, before the other players got in. There's always

:33:48.:33:53.

player, but he was in there with Terry Griffiths, who's been helping

:33:54.:33:59.

him out and mentoring him. And if anybody knows top-class tournament

:34:00.:34:02.

snooker, it's Terry, so he'd be a big help to Barry, approaching

:34:03.:34:07.

today. Been there, seen it, done it. A great champion in his own time.

:34:08.:34:14.

Always nice to have a Terry in your corner. An interesting little shot.

:34:15.:34:21.

That's the first time I think he's played a poor positional shot. Just

:34:22.:34:24.

wanted another couple of inches there to drop on the bottom red, but

:34:25.:34:27.

he's come straight. APPLAUSE

:34:28.:34:43.

A change of plan with his position there, so he can screw straight back

:34:44.:34:45.

for these two reds instead. Can you wipe it, please? Yeah. He

:34:46.:35:02.

just looks in the zone to me, Barry Hawkins, he really does.

:35:03.:35:23.

He had the cue ball cleaned. Maybe that just took his concentration

:35:24.:35:32.

slightly away. And all of a sudden, he's missed a sitter. Yeah. I really

:35:33.:35:44.

didn't see that coming. And neither did he. A shake of his head there. I

:35:45.:35:51.

was just saying how focused he looked and he'll be as amazed as

:35:52.:35:56.

anybody that he missed that one. It always looked a little bit wide,

:35:57.:36:08.

didn't it? And so it proved. He would have loved an angle on this

:36:09.:36:12.

red to be able to pot it and opened the reds up with a pink right over

:36:13.:36:17.

the pocket, but he can't do that, as you can see. But if he could get on

:36:18.:36:23.

that red this time, there's still one available at the back of that

:36:24.:36:27.

little bunch. I mean he could cannon into them but if he's got the angle

:36:28.:36:32.

to get on that in such a way he could pot it and open the reds up.

:36:33.:36:36.

And that's what he's played. Needs to pull up a little bit. Because the

:36:37.:36:40.

pink's over the pocket, he's guaranteed to be on -- to be on it.

:36:41.:36:43.

Well judged there. Yeah, good call, Dennis. And a

:36:44.:36:52.

classic example of how to make a break, that. Just left it purposely

:36:53.:37:01.

low, potted the reds, split them up. And a great chance. But one riddled

:37:02.:37:07.

with pressure. He needs to get involved in this match, Judd. He's

:37:08.:37:13.

been frozen out for two frames. He knows his opponent's playing well.

:37:14.:37:14.

Got to score. He's just come up a little bit

:37:15.:37:37.

short, but should be OK. Going to have to play a medium-length pot.

:37:38.:37:42.

Much better if you can keep closer control.

:37:43.:37:48.

Amazing. Amazing. It was just getting the wrong side of the blue,

:37:49.:37:56.

but I still fancied him to knock that in, now. Now, that is an

:37:57.:38:01.

indication of just a little bit of movement there. Having said that,

:38:02.:38:05.

the red jumped a little as well and that didn't help, but I don't think

:38:06.:38:11.

he cued that one all that well. Oh, what a chance he's let slip there.

:38:12.:38:16.

Yeah. It's just getting the right side of the blue, isn't it? He gets

:38:17.:38:20.

on the correct side of the blue there. He keeps the cue ball much

:38:21.:38:23.

tighter and closer to the object ball. Still, like you, Dennis, I

:38:24.:38:29.

didn't think he'd miss that. Well, he's had a reprieve. Come on, Judd!

:38:30.:38:33.

Come on, Judd! So his second chance. APPLAUSE

:38:34.:38:58.

Just a couple of fairly easy balls that Barry has missed after those

:38:59.:39:02.

two centuries -- centuries. Incredible.

:39:03.:39:08.

Judd was 2-0 up against Neil Robertson, so he's done the opposite

:39:09.:39:13.

here. 2-0 down. That was a good strike there, straight on that

:39:14.:39:18.

green. He could have easily got that one wrong, but, the way he left it,

:39:19.:39:24.

he had a choice of three reds. So really, a beautiful bit of cueing

:39:25.:39:29.

there just to get that spot on. There's no excuse now why he can't

:39:30.:39:37.

take this frame. They're there. Yeah, and as we always say, you

:39:38.:39:42.

never settle until you get your first frame on the board. And he had

:39:43.:39:45.

no chance in the two opening frames. APPLAUSE

:39:46.:40:33.

Well, here's the pink that Barry missed earlier in the frame and how

:40:34.:40:37.

big a ball might that be in the context of the match? 2-0 up, had

:40:38.:40:46.

his opponent on the rack there. I think it unsettled him a little bit,

:40:47.:40:51.

because he missed a comfortable red into the right middle pocket also.

:40:52.:41:04.

APPLAUSE Well, there's a little naughty shot

:41:05.:41:10.

from Judd, as he always like to do at the end of a frame.

:41:11.:41:29.

Oh, a little touch of the wobbles, to finish off at 100 miles per hour.

:41:30.:41:40.

Well, 200 miles per hour. It's in! It's in!

:41:41.:41:42.

CHEERING That's a lovely finish. Even Barry

:41:43.:41:47.

has a big smile. Barry Hawkins never looked like missing and then all of

:41:48.:41:52.

a sudden, he misses that sitter of a pink and Judd has got his first

:41:53.:41:57.

frame on the board, but he still trails two frames to one.

:41:58.:42:33.

The Masters used to be played at the Wembley Conference Centre, fabulous

:42:34.:42:41.

venue, probably a little bit bigger than Ally Pally. People are so close

:42:42.:42:46.

to the table. Back at the conference centre, you could be far away from

:42:47.:42:50.

the table, but it held nearly 3,000 people. I remember playing in a

:42:51.:42:53.

final against Alex people. I remember playing in a

:42:54.:42:57.

2,700 people there. I'll never forget that as long as I live. It

:42:58.:43:03.

made you nervous, Dennis. You used to fall over the plants on the way

:43:04.:43:08.

back to your seat. That's right. It was a circle, wasn't it? And, as

:43:09.:43:13.

Barry just comes off the side cushion to land in the pack, on one

:43:14.:43:19.

of the earlier occasions, I was introduced and I couldn't find my

:43:20.:43:23.

way into the arena. There was a little door that used to open and I

:43:24.:43:26.

couldn't find it! Happy days, but I do think this is a

:43:27.:43:44.

wonderful venue. I really do. The MC introduced Jimmy White as

:43:45.:44:01.

Jimmy Young. Home of the infamous streaker as well. Remember that one?

:44:02.:44:05.

I was in the commentary box when she went underneath it. I was looking at

:44:06.:44:08.

the table at the time. LAUGHTER

:44:09.:44:11.

Settle down, please. Thank you. This is a little bit of trouble for

:44:12.:45:04.

him. Gonna play off the side of these. You're going to hit this very

:45:05.:45:08.

thin indeed. You can't guarantee that you're going to not contact the

:45:09.:45:13.

blue on the way past either. On the way back, I should say. Yep. There

:45:14.:45:20.

was a fair degree of difficulty in that shot.

:45:21.:45:37.

Well, you'd just call this a half chance at the moment because the

:45:38.:45:47.

pink is out of commission. I don't think the black goes into the left

:45:48.:45:52.

corner. And the two reds are tied up next to the black.

:45:53.:46:00.

If the black does pot, it will help the situation for a few shots' time.

:46:01.:46:09.

It looks as if it is available so it's not tied up. A few more shots

:46:10.:46:15.

to be played before he is able to get on to the black.

:46:16.:46:23.

I just had a quick look at it. It's a fairly tight one.

:46:24.:46:48.

Yeah, it's one of those situations that you really need to be that side

:46:49.:46:54.

of the table where Judd is to properly see whether that goes or

:46:55.:46:59.

not. Players come up from behind the pocket, but I don't think that

:47:00.:47:01.

really makes too much of a difference. You can always seem to

:47:02.:47:05.

feel as if you can make the pot go from behind the pocket. It needs to

:47:06.:47:08.

be the other side to get a good judgment on it. But if he's looking

:47:09.:47:13.

at it for this length of time, it's obviously very tight. Well, as we

:47:14.:47:30.

zoom in, it looks as if it will go. I don't think he's got an angle on

:47:31.:47:34.

the red to play for the black on this occasion, so he'll have to

:47:35.:47:38.

concentrate on the blue. That type of shot he plays so well,

:47:39.:47:56.

without really forcing it. Yeah, beautiful timing, it really is.

:47:57.:48:00.

You'd probably have to say that Barry Hawkins's positional play so

:48:01.:48:03.

far today has been a little tighter than Judd's cue ball control when he

:48:04.:48:08.

made those two breaks. It was just superb. Judd is such a good potter

:48:09.:48:13.

and so much cue power, he just seems to be able to rescue the situations

:48:14.:48:18.

when he slightly goes awry. He's still not sure about that

:48:19.:48:24.

black. He's been shaking his head, Judd, when judging whether that does

:48:25.:48:25.

go or not. Well, that's about the fourth time

:48:26.:48:44.

he's looked at that! It's still exactly the same.

:48:45.:48:49.

He's playing for it. And if he's got an angle, he can nudge the other

:48:50.:48:59.

reds away. He may not have that. No. Not on this occasion. And you've got

:49:00.:49:05.

to play it now, Judd. Amazing. In the end, we did think it

:49:06.:49:17.

was tight and in the end, he put it on to the red. Yeah. He was always

:49:18.:49:22.

looking like that, wasn't it? It was really tight. The fact that it was

:49:23.:49:29.

sort of not directly in line with that red, just slightly behind, has

:49:30.:49:33.

probably confused the issue there. No top-class professional is going

:49:34.:49:38.

to take a shot on they don't think goes, but that was extremely tight.

:49:39.:49:44.

At least he got away with it. He doesn't put Barry in.

:49:45.:49:55.

APPLAUSE Excellent safety shot. Excellent

:49:56.:50:04.

weight on the cue ball. A bit of a free shot here, a shot

:50:05.:50:12.

toing nothing. -- a shot to nothing.

:50:13.:50:17.

Brilliant pot. That'll teach him to play good safety shots! Incredible

:50:18.:50:19.

pot. Brown ball. When we call it "a shot to nothing"

:50:20.:50:31.

it's where you take a pot like this on, a difficult pot, and you know

:50:32.:50:35.

you're going to get a safety shot if you happen to miss it. But in the

:50:36.:50:43.

end, rolling up behind the brown has given him a slight advantage. He's

:50:44.:50:49.

gone twice across the table here to land on the red.

:50:50.:50:54.

He doesn't want to slip past this. Otherwise, he'll leave it up. Oh!

:50:55.:51:02.

That's a bit careless from Barry. Yeah, and the worst part as well is

:51:03.:51:06.

he's just got to drop this red in dead weight. These can be pretty

:51:07.:51:10.

difficult down the top cushion, but just dropping it in... He was left

:51:11.:51:17.

in perfect position. So you just feel as if the poemium

:51:18.:51:21.

has slightly changed in this match and I'm going to harp back on about

:51:22.:51:25.

that pink but when it was 2-0 and he was in the balls, that miss on the

:51:26.:51:30.

pink could be very crucial indeed in this match. He had his opponent on

:51:31.:51:39.

the rack, did Barry Hawkins. Yeah. Even in the best of 11, you can

:51:40.:51:43.

always pick out one shot that can turn a match, and that was the shot

:51:44.:51:51.

that John was referring to. Oh, he hasn't judged the cannon. Is he OK?

:51:52.:51:56.

Just about, I think. Yep. No problem.

:51:57.:52:12.

Yeah, Steve was talking in the studio when we went back before,

:52:13.:52:18.

saying some players are a bit more ruthless in their capacity for

:52:19.:52:21.

keeping the pressure on. Obviously, we know that, Dennis, that Steve was

:52:22.:52:25.

certainly one of those. And Stephen Hendry was another one. Great

:52:26.:52:31.

champions here. If he thought there was any weakness, or they were on

:52:32.:52:37.

top, and needed to keep you in your seat, they'd be trying as hard as

:52:38.:52:42.

anybody to do that. 2-0 became 3-0 became 4-0. That's why they were

:52:43.:52:45.

The first great champions.

:52:46.:52:54.

The first It's not straightforward, this, but

:52:55.:52:57.

he makes them look easy. Well played.

:52:58.:53:04.

APPLAUSE Yeah, there's so many players now

:53:05.:53:08.

playing so such a high standard. But, yeah, Steve Davies, if you made

:53:09.:53:12.

a mistake, you used to go and sit down and get yourself ready for the

:53:13.:53:18.

next frame. -- Steve Davis, if you made a

:53:19.:53:23.

mistake, you used to go and sit down and get yourself ready for the next

:53:24.:53:26.

frame. So he just needs another red after this black.

:53:27.:53:37.

It may be a possible plant that would secure the frame. Is it in

:53:38.:53:41.

line with the pocket? Yeah, that looks

:53:42.:54:05.

They'll be feeling much better after the two opening frames there after

:54:06.:54:11.

watching the two opening frames. That's Judd's brother. Yes, and, OK,

:54:12.:54:17.

he had a little bit of help in frame three, with Barry missing a couple

:54:18.:54:20.

of opportunities, Judd Trump. But he'll be delighted to get to the

:54:21.:54:24.

mid-session interval at 2-2. He's played very well in this frame. To

:54:25.:54:30.

be sitting in your chair for so long and seeing your opponent start with

:54:31.:54:35.

frames of 130 and 128, you'd have taken 2-2 at the interval all day

:54:36.:54:38.

long. Great response. He got a terrible kick there, which

:54:39.:54:50.

has spoiled the break. There's just a possibility he could

:54:51.:55:29.

make a century break. I don't know if he can squeeze that. It's gone to

:55:30.:55:32.

the left of the pocket. If they were touching, he might be able to

:55:33.:55:33.

squeeze the touching, he might be able to

:55:34.:55:39.

wasn't on. No century but touching, he might be able to

:55:40.:55:43.

what - Judd Trump will be absolutely delighted with that break of 58. It

:55:44.:55:48.

levelled the scores and they go to the mid-session interval at two

:55:49.:55:49.

frames all. That's amazing. Both on 85%. That

:55:50.:56:46.

tells you a story. You wouldn't have maybe had that stat for Judd a

:56:47.:56:49.

couple of seasons ago. He has changed his game slightly and for

:56:50.:56:56.

the better, it has to be said. You just can't keep potting your way to

:56:57.:57:00.

winning tournaments. You have to have a good tactical game as well

:57:01.:57:04.

and this frame is already a little awkward with two reds up the other

:57:05.:57:10.

end of the table and the safety zone now behind the black.

:57:11.:57:28.

You've always got to be careful with that shot. Sometimes you get so

:57:29.:57:33.

obsessed with getting the cue ball so tight, that the reds can flick

:57:34.:57:37.

out to the middle pocket. Whilst it looks simple, certainly on these

:57:38.:57:42.

fast cloths, the reds open very quickly.

:57:43.:57:45.

But Judd's played that pretty well. Yeah, if it there wasn't reds

:57:46.:57:53.

available, the one next to the black is available. He could go to the one

:57:54.:57:56.

in the left middle pocket and drop on the pink, but he can't risk that,

:57:57.:58:01.

because he'd put Judd right in amongst them.

:58:02.:58:15.

In the final frame against Neil Robertson, the white was in the jaws

:58:16.:58:20.

of the corner pocket and Judd knocked a red like that in and won

:58:21.:58:23.

the match with a century break. It wasn't easy, that. He had a go at

:58:24.:58:44.

it but he knew he was going to get a reasonable cue ball. There's no

:58:45.:58:50.

plants on. I think there's two there but they're not on for the right

:58:51.:58:52.

middle pocket. There were two reds on for the left

:58:53.:59:21.

side of the bunch. They're obviously not in line either. He's taking the

:59:22.:59:27.

back double on. He'll be on the black if it goes in!

:59:28.:59:30.

CHEERING Clever shot. Very clever shot. Yeah.

:59:31.:59:38.

I couldn't agree with you more. A double there but also elements of

:59:39.:59:43.

safety. Only really the red that he played he could stick up a bit. The

:59:44.:59:48.

jaw and come back he could have left it but the way he played that was

:59:49.:59:52.

very smart. He does play shots different to other people so that

:59:53.:59:55.

makes him attractive to watch and difficult to play against. I

:59:56.:59:58.

mentioned yesterday sometimes there's not a uniformity to the game

:59:59.:00:03.

when you play against Judd. It's not always like you get with other

:00:04.:00:10.

players. But it makes him very easy on the eye.

:00:11.:00:16.

He does play a lot of different shots and that one was very clever.

:00:17.:00:34.

There was a real lapse in concentration there. He was away a

:00:35.:00:42.

couple of shots ahead of himself and, well, how do you miss one that

:00:43.:00:50.

easy? It's amazing. And this game, if you don't give every shot 100%

:00:51.:00:55.

concentration, it's incredible what can be missed.

:00:56.:01:07.

I'm in a state of shock he missed that and I'm sure he must be.

:01:08.:01:14.

Because really, that was an absolute sitter.

:01:15.:01:27.

Good shot. Loads of topspin. Straight through the pack. Watch the

:01:28.:01:38.

cue ball jump here. Oh! In the old days, that could have been a foul

:01:39.:01:42.

shot, but you have to jump over an intervening ball. So you can play a

:01:43.:01:47.

pot like that and it doesn't matter if the white bounces over other

:01:48.:01:49.

balls. Yes. Still got a little bit of work

:01:50.:01:55.

to do here and obviously you'd fancy Barry to knock this black in, but

:01:56.:01:59.

the next red has to be the one that's on the top cushion, I think,

:02:00.:02:03.

unless he can manufacture something else. So good cueing required for

:02:04.:02:05.

these. Well, they're not too bad if you're

:02:06.:02:24.

just dropping them in but, if you're playing them with a bit of pace,

:02:25.:02:28.

you've got to be spot on. No problem.

:02:29.:02:59.

The cue ball came off the cushion very strange there. Watch this when

:03:00.:03:06.

it comes off. It didn't go the normal angle. It was checked up.

:03:07.:03:22.

He's pushed a left on to the near corner. He can get on to that after

:03:23.:03:29.

the pink here. Well, I say he can get on to it but

:03:30.:03:34.

has he gone far enough? There's one to the middle. I think he's OK.

:03:35.:03:41.

Plenty of room. Great chance for Barry here. And if he can punish

:03:42.:03:54.

that very bad mistake from Judd, it will give Judd something to think

:03:55.:03:56.

about. He was a bit reluctant to play a

:03:57.:04:49.

cannon there. He's got the balls nicely open and you know when you

:04:50.:04:55.

risk playing a cannon it can always go wrong. I tell you what, his heart

:04:56.:05:06.

must have been in his mouth there. He mishit that because he didn't

:05:07.:05:08.

want the cue ball going anywhere near the middle pocket there. He got

:05:09.:05:13.

a little bit lucky. That's when you needed to screw a bit more to make

:05:14.:05:17.

sure you didn't throw the angle wide.

:05:18.:05:23.

But now it's happened, it's perfect position.

:05:24.:05:30.

I position.

:05:31.:05:36.

an old Joe Davis book that said, "There's

:05:37.:05:40.

an old Joe Davis book that said, today as it always did. How did Judd

:05:41.:05:44.

Trump miss that red in the middle? Yeah. It's one of the easiest shots

:05:45.:05:56.

you could ever wish to have. And it's definitely going to cost him

:05:57.:05:59.

the frame because look at the situations of the balls here.

:06:00.:06:07.

They're perfectly placed. So the interval coming at the right time

:06:08.:06:16.

for Barry Hawkins. He made those two magnificent century breaks, went off

:06:17.:06:19.

the ball, missed an easy pink, missed a fairly comfortable red, but

:06:20.:06:24.

he's back the way he started the match, with a little help from his

:06:25.:06:26.

friend. It's one of those horrible

:06:27.:06:51.

situations, if you're Judd Trump, where you're sitting in your chair

:06:52.:06:54.

absolutely squirming at the miss you've just made. To sit and watch

:06:55.:06:59.

your opponent pot all the balls that should have been yours.

:07:00.:07:14.

too disappointed about that. That magnificent break of 74 is more than

:07:15.:07:18.

enough to magnificent break of 74 is more than

:07:19.:07:24.

Thank you. Frame six. Judd Trump to break.

:07:25.:07:37.

He's made a reasonable break-off shot. Can't really take the pot on

:07:38.:07:51.

there, because it will go straight into the pink. So, it will be just a

:07:52.:07:54.

safety shot. And not the best safety shot. Where

:07:55.:08:13.

is this red going? Hold on a minute! Crowd # --

:08:14.:08:14.

CROWD GASP I think everyone in the alley pally

:08:15.:08:20.

thought that red was going to shot A poor safety he played there. . Judd

:08:21.:08:29.

could do with knocking a few in here, just to erase that sitter that

:08:30.:08:32.

he missed in the previous frame. Played in an area there were - got

:08:33.:08:48.

an option of 2. The bottom red at the pack is available, and if he pot

:08:49.:08:55.

us this, he will certainly move some of the reds about. Yeah. Played a

:08:56.:08:59.

nice controlled shot there. APPLAUSE

:09:00.:09:41.

Just having a look to see about the loose reds. They are not a good back

:09:42.:09:46.

to go into at the That might just be OK. There is one

:09:47.:10:28.

to the right that will go. Stunned it in rather than screwing it in,

:10:29.:10:34.

because you can stick in the back of the reds, if you screw it. Oh, he

:10:35.:10:41.

let that go. That's a little lapse in concentration there. He knew he

:10:42.:10:46.

was cannoning the other red, and he's just misjudged it. This is

:10:47.:10:50.

tough. That's brilliant!

:10:51.:11:00.

APPLAUSE That is a terrific recovery! It

:11:01.:11:05.

really is! That is such a tough shot, back into a blind pocket. You

:11:06.:11:10.

can't see the pocket in your eye line.

:11:11.:11:14.

Yes, that was a terrific recovery. He would be disappointed to see his

:11:15.:11:22.

positional shot prior to that. So, that was an excellent pot.

:11:23.:11:28.

An in the of somebody who's been putting plenty of hours in the

:11:29.:11:31.

practise table. He certainly did that over the Christmas period. I

:11:32.:11:35.

believe he didn't even go home for Christmas this year, and he stayed

:11:36.:11:39.

down where he practises, put all the hours in. So he's certainly making

:11:40.:11:46.

the sake -- sacrifices. He is at the time of his career where he should

:11:47.:11:52.

be winning major championships. He's certainly paying his dues.

:11:53.:12:00.

His family live in the Bristol area. Judd used to break advertise at --

:12:01.:12:10.

practise at the snooner is the -- snooker centre and played there a

:12:11.:12:13.

few times. Just finished a little awkward, as

:12:14.:12:23.

he just - see the way Judd just looked away from the table there.

:12:24.:12:28.

He's gone a little bit too far for one red and not fit # quite -- quite

:12:29.:12:32.

far enough for the other. A fraction either way. This is still

:12:33.:12:38.

straightforward pot, but he's having to can the red, because he could do

:12:39.:12:45.

without that. Looking at the lightly more difficult pot. Only a few pots

:12:46.:12:54.

away from securing the frame. He was trying to stay on all blacks, but

:12:55.:12:58.

the main thing is to clinch the frame.

:12:59.:13:38.

He is showing his class here as, you say, in the previous frame he missed

:13:39.:13:48.

that absolute sitter of a red into the middle, and that's well out of

:13:49.:13:55.

his mind now. Winning the frame with one visit.

:13:56.:14:21.

Very impressive. I think his shot earlier in this break... We will see

:14:22.:14:29.

him knock this one. The shot he played earlier in the break to keep

:14:30.:14:34.

it going was fabulous. This was it. A really acute shot. Full-blooded.

:14:35.:14:40.

Couldn't play it any better and deserved everything he got after

:14:41.:14:48.

that. This is a great response. And this... Yet another century at this

:14:49.:14:54.

year's Masters. What a standard! APPLAUSE

:14:55.:14:59.

Superb! That is his 375th career century. The 22 and this year's

:15:00.:15:13.

Masters -- the 22nd if this year's Masters. Doesn't matter about that!

:15:14.:15:19.

APPLAUSE You can't do better than do one

:15:20.:15:23.

chance and knocking a century. A good way to draw level. It is three

:15:24.:15:28.

frames each. Not the best of break-offs from

:15:29.:15:48.

Barry. Judd, the way he put the century

:15:49.:15:54.

Barry. Judd, the way he put the at this type

:15:55.:16:04.

That is what we call a Trump special!

:16:05.:16:27.

The long pot success, 83%, which is very good indeed.

:16:28.:16:51.

Such a fantastic weapon to have in your arsenal, isn't

:16:52.:16:58.

Such a fantastic weapon to have in yourself in amongst the balls. OK.

:16:59.:17:03.

Barry's break wasn't great, but... I think it is probably something the

:17:04.:17:07.

players should work a little bit more on, the break-off shot, because

:17:08.:17:15.

it's so important these days. It is something you wouldn't

:17:16.:17:38.

This is going to be awkward. He is going to need probably an extended

:17:39.:17:45.

spider to get to this. There is so many balls to bridge over here. He

:17:46.:17:51.

took the risk there. He is a bit unlucky to finish where he has. We

:17:52.:17:56.

will just show you that. Played it well enough but unlucky to stick

:17:57.:18:01.

where it has, and, as I say, there's all those balls to bridge over. He's

:18:02.:18:07.

switching hands. Now, this will be useful, but that is just as awkward.

:18:08.:18:14.

The way they are, I am not even sure he can get near that cue ball with

:18:15.:18:20.

an extended... It's just... Very often you are bridging over - well,

:18:21.:18:26.

one, two, three, balls in a line. Very tricky to get at.

:18:27.:18:43.

Is he going to have a go with an extended spider just to see what it

:18:44.:18:53.

looks like? Or? Yep. It is worth an idea, worth a shot, isn't it? Have a

:18:54.:18:59.

go. If he can play it, he will do, but this will be interesting to see

:19:00.:19:04.

whether he can actually reach over. That is what we call the extended

:19:05.:19:09.

spider there. There is a swan neck spider also, but - I mean, this - he

:19:10.:19:14.

is quite a tall lad, Judd, so - he's smiling buzz he doesn't fancy this

:19:15.:19:18.

one little bit! LAUGHTER

:19:19.:19:23.

No, don't like that. He just wants to keep potting balls, but I think

:19:24.:19:27.

he is going to have to play the safety shot.

:19:28.:19:36.

APPLAUSE He will be disappointed he broke

:19:37.:19:47.

down a 30. He's played the correct shot there. Simply couldn't get back

:19:48.:19:50.

to the cue ball. APPLAUSE

:19:51.:20:07.

I don't know if there is two reds in line for a plant. That is what Barry

:20:08.:20:11.

is looking at. That tells me that it's on, looking at Barry's face. He

:20:12.:20:15.

might be able to make this plant. Let's have a look. Yep. I think this

:20:16.:20:21.

is virtually plum, isn't it? The one thing you have to do with this is if

:20:22.:20:27.

you know it's a certainty, is play a good positional shot off it.

:20:28.:20:31.

APPLAUSE He has the positional shot off it,

:20:32.:20:43.

and couple of shots' time he can get on the red next to the black. He

:20:44.:20:48.

might even be able to do it from here.

:20:49.:20:54.

He's OK, he's found the gap for this one, but... The first chance he

:20:55.:21:02.

gets, he will get on that red, closest to the black, and get it

:21:03.:21:05.

into play. Yep. Here we go. The plant into the

:21:06.:21:18.

corner. Nothing worse when you are standing there with your cue in your

:21:19.:21:23.

hand and you look at the table and you think, "Oh, no." "I have left

:21:24.:21:28.

the plant on." Yeah. We could see it in his face, couldn't we? He knew

:21:29.:21:32.

straightaway, Barry, that he left it on, and there could be a few more to

:21:33.:21:35.

come here. Some very quick frames indeed. We've

:21:36.:21:56.

had 11 minutes, 13 minutes, 11, 12 minutes. 2 longest -- the longest

:21:57.:22:01.

frame, believe it or not, was just over 16 minutes. Yep. Refreshing and

:22:02.:22:12.

really good to watch. Quick, fast snooker at its best. And he looks

:22:13.:22:17.

like he's got the momentum now, Judd, to turn this match around.

:22:18.:22:51.

APPLAUSE That's virtually frame ball there.

:22:52.:23:02.

Just the black to make absolutely certain. Still a possible 67 on the

:23:03.:23:14.

table, but... It is a formality here.

:23:15.:23:31.

This was the safety shot that Barry played. He thought he'd got it

:23:32.:23:49.

reasonably save, and then he walked around. Seeing that the plant was

:23:50.:24:00.

on. And... That was his last shot. In this frame.

:24:01.:24:10.

Look at that! 365 points each. Yeah. That's a pint for each day in the

:24:11.:24:22.

year! He's taking a bit of time over this.

:24:23.:24:47.

Obviously he's mad keen on clearing up or making a century. Oh. What a

:24:48.:24:56.

try that was! He got too much action on it! So, is there a double that

:24:57.:25:02.

would keep - we will show you the shot again. Look at the action on

:25:03.:25:05.

the cue ball there. He will have to pull off a fantastic double if he is

:25:06.:25:10.

give themselves a chance of that century break. A treble will do!

:25:11.:25:21.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE That was what you call a multidouble

:25:22.:25:26.

that turned into a multitreble! Yeah. And he has the angle here to

:25:27.:25:31.

pot the black and just the flick the red out, if he wants. Oh! He's

:25:32.:25:37.

missed the cannon. But general Judd Trump can't pot this one! Hit it as

:25:38.:25:43.

hard as you can. There we go! Go on red! Get in somewhere.

:25:44.:25:51.

APPLAUSE A magnificent effort from Judd Trump

:25:52.:25:55.

and that break of 72 gets him into the lead. 4-3.

:25:56.:26:23.

Where is the red going? He almost fluked it but he got up straightaway

:26:24.:26:29.

off the shot and he might have got away with this.

:26:30.:26:31.

ANNOUNCER: Thank you! He might not be able to see the potting angle

:26:32.:26:35.

here. It is just away from the pink, so he is just OK. But Judd got up

:26:36.:26:40.

straightaway when he played the shot.

:26:41.:26:50.

Watch Judd's reaction here. He sees - straightaway he knew he hadn't

:26:51.:26:57.

made the correct contact. I don't think he had a quick. We were

:26:58.:27:00.

talking about the side. He put a little bit of side on that and

:27:01.:27:03.

bitten into the qubl and straighten up. It was one he needed a bit of

:27:04.:27:08.

left-hand side to come around the angles, and a little touch of side

:27:09.:27:11.

on it Oh!

:27:12.:27:18.

CROWD GASP He didn't cue that very well. So

:27:19.:28:17.

both players starting to feel the pressure out there. Neither of these

:28:18.:28:20.

boys have ever been to the final of the Masters. So, it is a big day for

:28:21.:28:25.

them. APPLAUSE

:28:26.:28:55.

A good pot that was, lots of pressure on it. In his practise he

:28:56.:29:01.

would fancy knocking this in, but this isn't practice. He cued that

:29:02.:29:06.

beautifully! And Judd helped earlier in the match in the third frame with

:29:07.:29:10.

Barry missing a relatively simple shot. Judd's just helped Barry

:29:11.:29:14.

Hawkins out because he must have been thinking in the air there,

:29:15.:29:18.

Hawkins out because he must have could be going 5-3 down." That was a

:29:19.:29:20.

very poor miss from Judd. Just a little bit of movement. I

:29:21.:29:34.

know sometimes he does move, Judd, Just a little bit of movement. I

:29:35.:29:44.

but you heard Shaun Murphy and our chat about the players. He was

:29:45.:29:49.

expressing how Judd just moves a little bit with his body on the

:29:50.:29:51.

shot. Shaun Murphy was the defending

:29:52.:30:28.

champion here and Mark Allen played very well to knock Shaun out 6-4. I

:30:29.:30:34.

know Shaun's an avid snooker fan. He will be watching all the snooker.

:30:35.:30:40.

. I can tell you something else - he won't be missing the reds three

:30:41.:30:46.

times on the trot again. Because he did it in that match. First time

:30:47.:30:52.

ever at the Masters. And forfeited the frame to Mark Allen.

:30:53.:31:03.

We have had some managertive indecent snooker in this match alone

:31:04.:31:30.

but it has to be said both players have missed couple of sitters. As I

:31:31.:31:37.

say, they are both under tremendous pressure going tore the first-ever

:31:38.:31:42.

Masters final. This is a lovely opportunity just a series of stuns

:31:43.:31:49.

the and screws around the Fink # -- PIN # pink. No need to be

:31:50.:31:53.

contemplating the black, the way these are positioned.

:31:54.:31:57.

27-point lead tome. -- at the moment. Didn't play the last shot

:31:58.:32:06.

well. Needed to leave an angle over the two reds. He didn't want to

:32:07.:32:10.

leave the cue ball there. Should have been more over to the right.

:32:11.:32:28.

Vis is a very big frame obviously in the context of the match but if

:32:29.:32:35.

Barry Hawkins doesn't win it from here, he will absolutely kick

:32:36.:32:36.

himself. There is this red and colour. That

:32:37.:33:27.

should see him over the line in this frame.

:33:28.:33:31.

It is anybody's game at the moment, the way it's going. Yeah. I

:33:32.:33:42.

mentioned it had 6-5 written all over it. The last time we played

:33:43.:33:49.

here in 2013 Judd won six frames to five. That was in the first round,

:33:50.:33:53.

on that occasion. I can tell you - two of the people

:33:54.:34:14.

who would love a 6-5 Ronnie O'Sullivan and Stuart Bingham. They

:34:15.:34:18.

want to see both of these two go through the mill, take as much out

:34:19.:34:21.

of themselves. APPLAUSE

:34:22.:34:28.

Might have to play another double, if he hasn't got an angle to get

:34:29.:34:33.

over to the last red. Well, he has a bit of angle here.

:34:34.:34:36.

APPLAUSE Knock this in, Barry, and give it

:34:37.:34:41.

another century. It is a tough one, though.

:34:42.:34:47.

No! Doesn't really matter that that's not going in at the moment.

:34:48.:34:54.

It is one mistake that cost him the play of the game.

:34:55.:34:56.

APPLAUSE . A magnificent break of 78 from

:34:57.:35:00.

Barry Hawkins. He had a little help from Judd, but he's all square at

:35:01.:35:03.

4-4. APPLAUSE

:35:04.:35:38.

One of those shots you could play it two ways there. But that was the

:35:39.:35:46.

aggressive way. Never thought about missing it.

:35:47.:35:57.

You can see his intention there to get on the pink in such a way that

:35:58.:36:22.

he can pot it and go into the reds, but...

:36:23.:36:32.

It has to be played with a lot of top spin here. You can see him

:36:33.:36:38.

striking the cue ball up near the top. And I was going to say he is a

:36:39.:36:48.

bit unlucky, but maybe the one next to the cue ball, he might have a

:36:49.:36:52.

slight angle to be able to pot it and get on the black. It is a bit

:36:53.:36:58.

close to it, though. It makes it slightly more difficult.

:36:59.:37:10.

The way Barry is looking at it, I don't think there is too much

:37:11.:37:17.

daughter that he is -- doubt that he is going to take it on. Once again,

:37:18.:37:22.

just has to be a little careful with the cuing here. The balls are chose

:37:23.:37:27.

together. Well played! APPLAUSE

:37:28.:37:54.

If the pic goes into the corner, it wouldn't be a bad ball to play on to

:37:55.:38:03.

bring reds into play. Yeah. Dennis, I'm surprised he hasn't had a look

:38:04.:38:10.

around there. Oh, I agree with you there. If he played a stun out and

:38:11.:38:15.

come on the pink and left it high, he could have potted that and

:38:16.:38:21.

certainly opened the reds out. It is a bit more difficult off the black.

:38:22.:38:33.

Will he do it this time? He's coming around, I think, to have a look at

:38:34.:38:41.

the pink now. Yep. Yeah. That's around, I think, to have a look at

:38:42.:38:46.

definitely the shot that will open the game up.

:38:47.:39:03.

Decided to play and leave it on the loose side. So he is going to play

:39:04.:39:10.

the little cannon into the three reds to the left of the pink.

:39:11.:39:18.

He has to be a little bit careful. He is coming near the pink spot.

:39:19.:39:28.

Couldn't have done any better! APPLAUSE

:39:29.:39:34.

Good call, Dennis, you picked the shot up!

:39:35.:39:43.

That's happened a few times, where Judd took a difficult, long pot on,

:39:44.:39:49.

which he's always going to do anyway, but he's being punished for

:39:50.:39:58.

just that one mistake. Barry's won a few frames with just the one chance.

:39:59.:40:05.

Certainly the two opening frames. 19391, 128, and then he had a 74 to

:40:06.:40:12.

go back in the lead. 78, and the last to level. Great

:40:13.:40:16.

stuff! Yes. And that straight red miss in

:40:17.:40:24.

the last frame from Judd. That has proven tore very costly -- to be

:40:25.:40:28.

very costly. Cost him the last game, but thrown the momentum back to

:40:29.:40:32.

Barry Hawkins, who looks like he is cuing like he did in the opening two

:40:33.:40:34.

frames again. He needs - too many balls to swing

:40:35.:40:45.

the momentum around. There is the red. Play all day and he wouldn't

:40:46.:40:50.

miss that in the club. But it's proven at the moment to be

:40:51.:40:52.

very costly. This is how Barry played when he got

:40:53.:41:04.

to the final of the World Championships a few seasons ago.

:41:05.:41:10.

Cuing superbly well. Yes. Championships a few seasons ago.

:41:11.:41:15.

Ronnie O'Sullivan to beat him in the final. Put

:41:16.:41:19.

Ronnie O'Sullivan to beat him in the there. Coming out for four first

:41:20.:41:22.

final and you have got arguably the best player who's ever lived in the

:41:23.:41:26.

chair. Acquitted himself very well in that.

:41:27.:41:35.

APPLAUSE Not far from the winning line in

:41:36.:41:44.

this frame. Couple of more pots will be enough.

:41:45.:41:58.

68 ahead. There is a few more to come

:41:59.:42:14.

here, APPLAUSE . Judd will have to go to the well.

:42:15.:42:22.

He is going to have to drag up concentration and focus and all his

:42:23.:42:25.

ability. There will be two frames he needs to win and he is going to have

:42:26.:42:32.

to find it from somewhere. Played brilliantly yesterday. As good as I

:42:33.:42:36.

have seen him play but he is going to have to do the same thing for the

:42:37.:42:39.

last two frames, because Barry Hawkins looks like he's back on

:42:40.:42:41.

stroke. This really is a bit special from

:42:42.:43:32.

Barry Hawkins. Yes. To be able to produce this standard on one of the

:43:33.:43:36.

biggest stages in world snooker, when it means so much to you... It

:43:37.:43:42.

is a big feather in his cap. This really is excellent stuff. And this

:43:43.:43:50.

red, just for his third century in this match alone.

:43:51.:43:58.

APPLAUSE Fabulous from Barry Hawkins!

:43:59.:44:05.

That's the 24th century in this year's Masters. He sacrificed the

:44:06.:44:12.

position and made sure of the century, but doesn't matter whether

:44:13.:44:16.

he pots the black or not. He would like to.

:44:17.:44:20.

APPLAUSE Has he got the cannon also? The cue

:44:21.:44:25.

ball might be in the middle pocket but that doesn't really matter.

:44:26.:44:32.

APPLAUSE Barry Hawkins with breaks of 78 and

:44:33.:44:37.

then that century - he now leads 5-4.

:44:38.:44:55.

APPLAUSE Wow!

:44:56.:44:59.

APPLAUSE LAUGHTER

:45:00.:45:04.

Well, the black was out of commission! What a shot!

:45:05.:45:19.

I think he was playing for the gap there. That was a bonus to knock the

:45:20.:45:30.

black over the pocket like that. But he will take it!

:45:31.:45:44.

Now, then... What a chance for Barry Hawkins. Yep. And that red that's on

:45:45.:45:53.

the left-hand side caution, that Judd's stopped there with the last

:45:54.:45:57.

shot... OK, it wasn't the best safety shot in respect of the cue

:45:58.:46:03.

ball but will that red come to his rescue? There is a lot of snookers

:46:04.:46:08.

played before then, the amount of pressure that these boys are under,

:46:09.:46:12.

you almost think they are going to clear up without thinking of the

:46:13.:46:15.

circumstances, they are that good, but with a chance to reach his first

:46:16.:46:20.

Masters final here, he will be under the pressure, don't worry about

:46:21.:46:21.

that. He's had five attempts Yan never got

:46:22.:47:03.

past the first round but he's made up for all those defeats, the way

:47:04.:47:05.

he's played this year. He does strike the ball beautifully,

:47:06.:47:17.

Barry Hawkins. Lovely to watch. Great rhythm around

:47:18.:47:26.

the table. If he can just stun up on to the pink here. Once he pots that,

:47:27.:47:28.

he should be on the bottom red. Both of those reds pot. Yes. So, he

:47:29.:47:52.

has the one difficult red, has John said. He may take the chance to try

:47:53.:47:57.

and develop that red. Oh! He's just missed it! Oh, that

:47:58.:48:04.

could have been a match-winner there, had he have got the cannon

:48:05.:48:07.

correctly. Not only did he just miss the flick

:48:08.:48:18.

on the red, his position's gone awkward. One of those he could have

:48:19.:48:22.

missed it and ended up still on the green or the brown, or any colour,

:48:23.:48:31.

but where it's finished, it Shows you the fine margins, Dennis.

:48:32.:48:35.

He gets that cannon. It could be all over.

:48:36.:48:41.

ANNOUNCER: Brown. He can get in behind the black, I think, if he

:48:42.:48:51.

judges it. They are not easy. In fact, he might

:48:52.:48:56.

even be able to see enough of the red near the pink spot to cut it in.

:48:57.:49:01.

But that last shot he tried, is to difficult to judge, but don't be

:49:02.:49:08.

surprised if this doesn't go in. APPLAUSE

:49:09.:49:17.

Fabulous shot! He has a bit of angle on the brown. Can he somehow - if

:49:18.:49:24.

anyone can get to the last red, it is Judd, but can he have enough

:49:25.:49:28.

angle to miss the green and screw become, John? I don't know. But now

:49:29.:49:34.

he's thinking why did I put that red save.

:49:35.:49:36.

LAUGHTER Funny the way the frameworks out. If

:49:37.:49:41.

he can't muster up a positional shot to free the red, why not go in

:49:42.:49:46.

behind the brown and leave them in a very difficult snooker? But if there

:49:47.:49:50.

is half a chance he can get to the red, he will take it. He might have

:49:51.:49:54.

to play a little sort of banana type shot when he screws it back. But now

:49:55.:50:02.

he's looking at going in behind the bound which wouldn't be a bad

:50:03.:50:07.

choice. Yeah, I like this shot. APPLAUSE

:50:08.:50:12.

I don't think that's the best way of playing it, though. It could have

:50:13.:50:18.

been cutting off the top cushion. Still, it gives him the opportunity

:50:19.:50:22.

to drop on this dead weight, which he wouldn't have had if he covered

:50:23.:50:31.

that off, Judd. CROWD GASP

:50:32.:50:36.

He won't mind giving a couple of penalty points away, as long as

:50:37.:50:39.

He won't mind giving a couple of drops on I it. But I'm with you,

:50:40.:50:42.

John, he she should blocked the escape route. You think

:50:43.:50:43.

John, he she should blocked the where that is, Dennis, it would have

:50:44.:50:47.

been a stinker to get out of, if he's blocked this line off, but

:50:48.:50:50.

where this is, he's just going to keep playing the same shot. The only

:50:51.:50:54.

thing is if he hits it slightly harder than he intended, he could

:50:55.:50:56.

push it over the middle pocket. It is a containing shot, but he

:50:57.:51:04.

could be in behind the pink here. It is a containing shot, but he

:51:05.:51:18.

Barry made sure he played cushion first so it took away the chance of

:51:19.:51:21.

promoting that red a little. first so it took away the chance of

:51:22.:51:29.

We haven't had many close frames first so it took away the chance of

:51:30.:51:33.

this match. It's all been about heavy duty scoring. But we've got

:51:34.:51:40.

one now. Well, it is great, I mean, to see

:51:41.:51:44.

big breaks and that, but a lot of people enjoy this just as much. It's

:51:45.:51:49.

much more tense when the frame's like this.

:51:50.:52:00.

His main concern here is to try and get that red ball save.

:52:01.:52:18.

Well, he knocked a similar pot in the

:52:19.:52:23.

Well, he knocked a similar pot in he cut one in off the pink spot.

:52:24.:52:31.

This time the red is near the brown spot.

:52:32.:52:42.

Cross gasp # -- CROWD GASP

:52:43.:52:45.

How close was that? This is far from easy. It looks to be almost

:52:46.:52:49.

straight, John. Yeah. That is what he would be looking for, looking for

:52:50.:52:53.

it to be bolt straight to make it more difficult. But I'm not so sure

:52:54.:53:03.

it is. Still a tough shot this, though.

:53:04.:53:04.

CROWD GASP though.

:53:05.:53:08.

That was far from easy. Throw in the fact of the circumstances... That

:53:09.:53:12.

red must have looked like the size of a football! Wow! Look at the

:53:13.:53:20.

expression on Barry's face there. He can get a snooker here, you know.

:53:21.:53:30.

APPLAUSE Judd's parents there, Stephen, and

:53:31.:53:47.

they will be so tense. It is worse sometimes watching.

:53:48.:53:56.

That is one of Judd's good friends there next to his parents.

:53:57.:54:03.

Yep. Follows him to all the tournaments. Biggest fan.

:54:04.:54:09.

Terrible watching. Is he going to risk swinging this

:54:10.:54:13.

around the angles to try to get in behind the - well, the green and

:54:14.:54:17.

black are in a good position. If he was to sort of even get a cannon on

:54:18.:54:22.

the brown it would be pretty good. He's hit it a bit thin. Hit it far

:54:23.:54:29.

too thin. Oh, he's made a bad mistake there. But the blue has gone

:54:30.:54:34.

into an awkward position, but that was a good chance.

:54:35.:54:38.

ANNOUNCER: Thank you. Settle down please. He hit that far too then.

:54:39.:54:45.

Yeah. Just - as you say, Dennis, just too then, trying to get it

:54:46.:54:52.

around there and - this would be - red that would be food and drink to

:54:53.:54:55.

Barry Hawkins, but this is not ordinarily. I'm not so sure the blue

:54:56.:55:07.

has gone safe. A big shot. APPLAUSE

:55:08.:55:20.

Well, he's already looking at the blue. So... Not for this shot, but

:55:21.:55:29.

he's going to need that. And if he could just get in behind it, that

:55:30.:55:32.

would be all he would need. Looking at it, it is a perfect angle, if it

:55:33.:55:37.

isn't as bad, it is perfect, the green is going to go past the brown.

:55:38.:55:44.

If he could drop the blue in... He would have a straight shot of the

:55:45.:55:48.

yellow, even though he could be a little closer to the cushion. But...

:55:49.:55:58.

Anyway, the green I was just thinking for a little bit

:55:59.:56:02.

later for blue to pink, whether that is going to be a bit more awkward,

:56:03.:56:07.

but he will come to that when he gets to it. Just looking at the

:56:08.:56:12.

score. When he pots the yellow, it will be all square, 40 points each.

:56:13.:56:20.

He is going to need the pink. So even if he gets on to that blue, I

:56:21.:56:24.

don't think he can do much with it, to get up close to the pink. So,

:56:25.:56:30.

there's a little bit of tension left in this frame.

:56:31.:56:38.

Yes. This is the big shot. If he can just knock this in and get the

:56:39.:56:48.

correct angle on the blue, just to give himself a little chance of

:56:49.:56:52.

pushing through it and getting closer, but, as I say, it's - the

:56:53.:56:56.

way he's cuing it, Dennis, it's not great, is it? He can't do much with

:56:57.:57:00.

the blue, he can only just drop it in and have a leave a very difficult

:57:01.:57:03.

pink. That's why he's tried to move it

:57:04.:57:18.

slightly. He's pretty close to the blue. It will go into the left

:57:19.:57:25.

corner, but what a shot to judge! ANNOUNCER: Settle down, please. This

:57:26.:57:37.

is so awkward! Yeah. He had a look to see if the centre pocket was in

:57:38.:57:40.

the way. A tough shot. It's there!

:57:41.:57:53.

APPLAUSE What a shot he's played there!

:57:54.:57:57.

CHEERING AND APPLAUSE Unbelievable shot. Judd Trump! He

:57:58.:58:03.

thought he had a lifeline there, but what a shot. Barry Hawkins pulled

:58:04.:58:09.

that off. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:58:10.:58:14.

Unbelievable match! That is what it means to Barry Hawkins. He's made

:58:15.:58:20.

three century breaks. The two are having a chat. Reversed that result

:58:21.:58:25.

when he lost couple of years ago. CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

:58:26.:58:29.

He is a very popular winner. Barry Hawkins defeats Judd Trump by 6-4. A

:58:30.:58:36.

great match, boys! From 4-3 behind, Barry Hawkins won the last three

:58:37.:58:40.

frames of that match. He threw in three centuries along the way. A

:58:41.:58:44.

brilliant performance to reach his very first Masters final. We will be

:58:45.:58:49.

able to see how he does in that final from 1 o'clock BBC Two on

:58:50.:58:52.

Sunday often. Promises to be a great day. I hope that you can share it

:58:53.:58:56.

with us. In the meantime, sleep well. Good night.
