What a day, what drama, what excitement. It is all lies on the

capital, a match that promises to be a real crack at -- Cracker.

again, it is Liverpool that takes centre-stage. Manchester main claim

Three big matches involving teams from three of England's great

footballing cities on tonight's Match of the Day 2, watched by Alan

Hansen and Michael Owen. We start around the corner with the

Manchester derby, as the local rivalry reaches 1968 levels, due in

part to last May's dramatic finale. Surely Sir Alex Ferguson has pulled

out perhaps the greatest of all of the club's Premier League titles.

As it stands, it is not enough for Manchester City to call themselves

champions. It has finished and they still don't know if they have won

it. It is Sergio Aguero! Manchester City had snatched it! In the most

incredible way possible. Devastation. Manchester City are

goes on into theirs. Time to look to the future, because this new era

of Manchester rivalry has only just begun. Many of this morning's

headlines told us of the Balotelli gamble and so it has proved. New

Father Mario Balotelli starts in a City side that also features David

Silva, fit after hamstring injury, and Gael Clichy, who has missed the

last three games with an ankle problem.

Antonio Valencia has been at the same number of matches but returns

to give Manchester United some extra weight, up whereas Tom

Cleverley has proved his fitness after any injury sustained on

free kick. Balotelli is getting involved somewhat needlessly.

Ferdinand is drawing attention to Gael Clichy's tackle, the referee

saw nothing wrong with that. He has been very meticulous about the way

Mario. He didn't hit it brilliantly well, but it's nearly found a way

through, David de Gea had to get it looked like the ball had beaten

him. Just enough check on the pass from David Silva to allow the ball

back. Balotelli wasn't ready or forward. They have been doing that

in shock, because it is the Rooney show right now. 28 minutes, he has

taken his total of Premier League goals from 148 to the milestone of

150. Nastasic could only stand and stare. Too quick for Toure and once

you could do without that. As far as I am concerned today, I'm going

to dismiss it from my mind, because We will deal with the ugly, but

only after the beautiful, which is what that game was. It was special,

it was unmissable, you could not take your eyes off it. Classic

tactics for Manchester United, away from home. Hit them on the break

with devastating effect. In that respect, Wayne Rooney was the best

player on a pitch by a mile, for that period. Manchester City made a

change, bringing Tevez on for Balotelli, and for the next 30

minutes, they were sensational. The quality of the football was

unsurpassed, it was that good. ending was right up there with any

we have seen. Was a fantastic game. I admire the manager for picking

such an attacking team. They won there last year. I don't think they

had a shot on target last year, which would have hurt the manager.

To go there with such an attacking team today, that half-an-hour

before half-time was as good as you will see. It was fantastic

There is debate about whether Joe Hart was at fault, but initially,

Clichy should have gone back to the goalkeeper. He gets caught by

been over. But Manchester City came back into it, and the quality of

the football, for the last 30 minutes, was breathtaking. I think

every blue in Manchester was screaming the substitution which

needed to be made, and it made a huge difference I think a lot of

people were surprised that Tevez did not start. We get bogged down

sometimes in talking about tactics and formations, but sometimes, just

somebody with real enthusiasm, who is going to get the crowd on the

edge of their seat, can be worth their weight in gold. Straightaway,

he was involved in the game, doing things at pace. That was a cracking

shot. Eventually, he lays the ball off to Yaya Toure. But the weight

of pass was perfect. Again, he loses the ball, but just look at

him chasing. I know he has been sat there for half a game stewing, but

a little thing like that gets the fans inspired, and inspires the

rest of the team as well. Here he is, not just playing short, but

running into the gaps as well. He is so strong. Again, he is just

buzzing everywhere. It gets the crowd going. Here we are again,

getting another corner. This is a great piece of play. Ferdinand has

probably got him where he wants, but he starts peeling off, gets

into Rio's blind-spot, and now, he is in control. Rio cannot see where

he is. A lot of talk about diving this weekend, but that one with

Patrice Evra, he has done really well to stay on his feet. Two or

three times as well. Absolutely. You mentioned van Persie after the

game, and I was expecting you to look at the final goal, but you

picked out a different reason why he impressed you today. Manchester

United have been having problems from set plays, it has been well-

documented, and if you look at the game as a whole, the guy that

cleared it more than any other player was the star centre forward.

This is what Ferguson is all about, having a team doesn't everybody

contributes. Brilliant header there just at the near post. The next one,

he heads a to way. And the last one, probably his best header. But what

you love about him is, once again, he is always looking to be involved,

and he will keep going and going. The other debutant, the Manchester

City defender, had a poor afternoon. When Raphael crosses this one, you

would say there is no way he should get past him. But look how close

the ball is to him when it goes past him. But he cannot get back

because of the weight is on his left side. If you analyse the game,

to me, City had the better players, but Manchester United were the

better team. Let's stay with the incident with Rio Ferdinand.

Exactly, and it is important to point out, it is Manchester City

today, but it has been other teams over the last few weeks. It is

being seen more and more. You see it a little bit on the continent.

When I used to play in Madrid, it was all the time, near the side of

the pitch. But this is just awful. Well done, Joe Hart, there. It is a

problem with society, really. It is not one or two people. Michael is

right, everything has got a bit more niggly. You have got to

eradicate these problems. But it should not detract from a wonderful

afternoon of football. And that season, City did the double over

United, which is what decided the title. Will it be the same this

year? It might come down to who wins the head-to-head, and

Manchester United have just gone in front. Now, we had to Merseyside,

and it is a numbers game, between blue and white. Just three points

separate these two clubs. Everton are unbeaten in their last 11 at

Goodison. But David Moyes' team has drawn too often, seven out of the

last nine, which has allowed inform spurs to leapfrog them in the table.

They have won three on the spin. But Everton will be a tough test,

with spurs not having one at Goodison Park since 2007. Also,

they have kept just one clean sheet on the road. But all of these

statistics, while interesting, will likely have no bearing once the

first Spurs Premier League goal. It was dipping, but just not quite

didn't it? The man who left Everton for Spurs and came back to Goodison

scores against his former club. Just on the 90 minute mark, with

the equaliser. It is another late Everton goal. For once, a much

better delivery from Coleman and Pienaar timed his run to perfection.

He guided a header past Hugo Lloris and into the bottom corner. He will

certainly enjoy that moment. Everyone inside Goodison certainly

did. And there are four more minutes of time to add on. He

so does that -- Allen. After the day, Everton did really well, they

kept on going and they have lost -- drawn games they should have won

conceivably and it is difficult to get points on the board. They are a

great side, they have kept confidence in the manager and

supporters. Neville is injured at the moment, but everyone is almost

fighting fit and they have class all over the park. They are a very

strong team. I certainly think they are very strong down the left, with

Leighton Baines and Pienaar. Every time I watch them play, they are a

handful for anyone, but today it handful for anyone, but today it

was then the right hand side where I thought they did best. Seamus

Coleman was really impressive for me today. Gibson was spraying

passes left right and centre and he was just so energetic, full of

energy, up and down the right side all the time. And they caused

Tottenham problems. Virtually every attack that they had came down that

right side. Another great all, he could have done better with the

cross. -- ball. They also gave Gibson too much time. I played with

him at Man United, he has got great vision and a great shot and the

last thing you wanted do is give him time. Every ball seemed to be

causing them troubles down the right. If the final pass had been

better, they might have scored before they did. But eventually it

did come, a lovely floated pass and a great header. And the roles were

reversed here, Coleman to Gibson, he knocks at Cross in Hand this is

just pure instinct. You cannot teach that, being in the right

Cole. Liverpool are level with 15 minutes to go. Sweetly struck. The

two old boys coming back to haunt their former club today. And it is

all to play for here in the closing stages. What a final 14 minutes

we're going to have here now. Jordan Henderson running into space.

Chance to cross. Jonjo Shelvey! And Liverpool have the lead! Who needs

Luis Suarez?! Great work by Henderson, and Shelvey, sliding in,

and the spin of the ball taking it over Jaaskelainen's head. And

Liverpool lead for the second time in the match. Collins was the

I have got a feeling it might have come off Collins. Jonjo Shelvey has

Shelvey had quite a tussle with today. We had to show different

characteristics. The first 20-25 minutes, we were outstanding. We

were unfortunate to concede the penalty. The last 20 minutes of the

first half, we did not get on the ball quite as much. It clearly

struck his arm, but when it is that close to you, it is almost

impossible to get out of the way, isn't it? I do not know what Joe

can do to avoid that. I did not think the referee was going to give

it, but then the noise from the crowd may be made him change his

mind. But certainly, it was a very harsh decision. The referees tend

to give penalties when the player's arm is up these days, so I was not

surprised when it was given. In our industry, we think it is welcome,

but we see it more and more often. And we deserved to get back into

the game, and I think we deserve to be in front at half-time. The

disappointment was that we did not continue the second half like we

finished the first. Steady progress, being made? Liverpool will be

judged by unbelievable standards, because of what the club has

achieved in the past, but our fans know where we are at the moment.

They understand what the manager is trying to do, and how he wants us

to play, and building the club from the bottom up again. For me, he is

doing a great job. West Ham first of all, and so many times over the

last few weeks, this player has been highlighted, and they were

unlucky to lose him in the middle of the game. Yes, Diame was

exceptional last week against Chelsea, and they were leading when

they lost in today. But it was a fantastic result for Liverpool.

what everybody thought. He has certainly been carrying the burden.

His first goal was pure individual brilliance. It is a pure strike,

you can see the ball hardly rotates in the air. This is a training

ground goal. Every day in training, teams will work on this. Player

he has created. It is very hard to mark. And again, what they needed

today was runners from midfield. It did not have a natural goalscorer

up there. Shelvey played really up there. Shelvey played really

well, but they needed runners from midfield. And they got that here.

That highlighted space is always a dangerous place to defend. If you

stick it in there, anything can happen. No chance without Suarez.

Carrying on from what he just said, Johnson against Jarvis was a key

battle. It was. Glen Johnson, arguably Liverpool's best player

this season, if you take Suarez out of the equation. Today, he was

great going forward. He is up against Jarvis, and Jarvis does not

get anywhere near him. This is a phenomenal hit. But when Glen

Johnson went forward, at times, Jarvis have the space and freedom

to go and attack. On this occasion, he is left up against Joe Allen,

and he goes past him with consummate ease. That could have

been really dangerous. Every time Glen Johnson went forward, he had

Jarvis on toast, however. His ball was from Downing. Glen Johnson just

cuts inside him, and sets up Raheem Sterling. That was so close. But on

the other hand, as soon as Glen Johnson went forward, and the ball

got cut out, Jarvis again gets left up against Joe Allen. Glen Johnson

does really well to get back, but he leaves Joe Allen with Jarvis.

You can see how easy it is for Jarvis to go past Joe Allen.

Against the better sides, you might not be so lucky. Another word a

West Ham, because it is worth stressing where they were this time

last year. Last week, beating Chelsea, so many reasons to be

positive. Absolutely. Not only the position in the Lee and the points

they have won, but also the way they have played. -- in the league.

I think Big Sam has won over the fans. That's the Liverpool form

table for the last of eight games, following their worst start in 100

years. There is reasons to be very optimistic for Liverpool fans,

without getting carried away. without getting carried away.

Absolutely, the next four or five games are eminently winnable. They

are not that far away from fourth spot, Champions League. It might be

a dream, but if they can get a centre-forward in January, reach

for the stars. Is that the key, Michael? Yes, you would think two,

really. They have got one recognised striker, so you would

think they would want two. But who knows what money they have got to

spend? At least one. Do you see, as a centre-forward, greedy. More

goals on the way, plus tonight, we promise a finish worth waiting for.

American champions against the African champions, on Wednesday

quarter-finals. Now, yesterday, and six games are full of incident. We

have split them in half. You do not have to look hard to see it -

tension written all over the Premier League. Smiles were scarce

yesterday before kick-off. At the Emirates, Arsene Wenger looked

desperate for a win. Even the Baggies were less bouncy, having

lost two in a row. That the Stadium of Light, two more managers feeling

under pressure. And on the south coast, the Saints and Reading, both

in the bottom three, and you do not want to be there at Christmas. Not

all of these fans would be smiling on the way home. Now, jack

Wilshere... Oh, it is a penalty! It is a penalty to Arsenal. It is

actually Steven Reid who makes the challenge. Cazorla goes down. Was

it a soft one? Was the contact? I am not entirely sure. And Arsenal
