This is where they all want to be. For some, just getting here, what a

story that is. Cardiff City are back in the top flight of English

football. For others, well, they were here at the very start.

Whatever their past, their focus is now on their future. And as winter

slowly gives way to spring, the faithful month of May just around

the corner --fateful, it is time to fight. Fight for every 50-50, every

loose ball, every point. This league is not sentimental, there is no

respect for tradition or history. Fight to decide who stays and who

goes. There are going to be plenty of

twists and turns between now and the final day of the season. Mark

Lawrenson and Martin Keown are following them tonight.?And our

first battle comes from Villa Park. Steve Wilson was there for Aston

Villa against Norwich. Perhaps it is appropriate on League

Cup final day that Aston Villa should face Norwich in arguably the

most significant meeting of the two since 39 years ago yesterday, when

Villa beat Norwich 1-0 at Wembley to win the 1975 League Cup. Today, they

are neck and neck in a relegation battle, separated only by goal

difference. Paul Lambert has won three and drawn one against Norwich

since leaving Caro Wright and picks an unchanged team since -- Caro Road

and picks an unchanged team from the team that was unlucky to lose

against Newcastle. Norwich have not won back-to-back matches all season.

Leroy Fer's hamstring rules him out. Wes Hoolahan, who Villa tried to

sign in January, comes in. Gary Hooper comes in for bad wolves

Just seven goals this season for Benteke. Both sides have struggled

to find the net. Hoolahan, nicely done. On side.

Hooper pulls it back. And it is 1-0 to Norwich! Tucked away by Hoolahan!

Less than three minutes played and Wes Hoolahan, who might have been

Aston Villa player had he got his move in January, puts Norwich in

front at Villa Park. It is a neat little one too, he is on side, and

Hooper showed excellent awareness to put it back on a plate for Hoolahan.

Aston Villa zero, Norwich one, right at the start of the game. Problem is

already for Paul Lambert. -- problems.

Tettey still going. Driven across goal, and that wasn't too far away.

Well, the Aston Villa fans, a chorus of disapproval for the way their

team has started this game. Ron Vlaar. Clipped in towards

Benteke. Great chest down and what a fantastic goal! Christian Benteke!

That is a very special goal. As explosive a finish as you are likely

to see. Out of absolutely nothing, Benteke. A fearsome goal. And Aston

Villa are level. You don't score much better goals than that. Joseph

Yobo completely beaten by the athleticism and the pace generated

by Benteke. It is a wonderful equaliser.

Any goal would have done, in all honesty. But that wasn't just any

goal. Russell Martin has put it out for a

Villa corner. The corner is swung in and it was

attacked by Nathan Baker, who didn't get the contract he was looking for.

Nathan Redmond under pressure. Big moments in the game possibly. Aston

Villa right on the front foot. A big slice from Bassong and it is another

corner. Corner kick driven in towards

Benteke! He is there again! 2-1, Aston Villa. And what a great time

for Benteke to rediscover his scintillating goal-scoring form of

last season. All he has got to do here is get a head on it because

there is pace and power on the corner. Aston Villa, a goal down a

few moments ago, 2-1 up and Christian Benteke has got them both.

What does Anthony Taylor do here? Tettey's boot was high. Nathan Baker

is down, having felt the full force of it. He is a committed midfielder,

Alexander Tettey. At times a little reckless. It is a yellow card.

Could say by Brad Guzan. Hoolahan! So close to an equaliser. They are

real live wires together, Hoolahan and Gary Hooper, and Brad Guzan did

ever so well to keep that out. Agbonlahor. A brake on favela.

Benteke looking for the past. He finds Andy Byman. Goes on to Bacuna.

Great run by Fabian Delph. Agbonlahor in the middle. It is an

own goal! Bassong into his own net. And Aston Villa have four before

half-time. And four in 15 minutes. Bassong into his own net. Another

good Aston Villa attack. He knew danger was lurking behind, he felt

he had to do something with it. It was driven in towards Agbonlahor by

Delph. And Sebastian Bassong, the unfortunate scorer of the own goal

that makes it 4-1 to Aston Villa. Norwich have conceded only for goals

in their last six matches but they find themselves 4-1 down after

letting that many in 15 minutes. Free header, should have been five.

He puts it straight at John Ruddy. He really should be scoring here,

Agbonlahor. David McNally, the Norwich City Chief Executive, who

has not exactly eased the pressure on Chris Hughton in the last few

weeks with some of the stuff he has been saying. Chris Hughton has taken

it on the chin and said, well, it is a results business. You know what is

coming if you don't get results. That is wasteful. It is a decent

chance really for Elmander. Not going to look too clever walking

through Perry Barr dressed like that. Those two goals in two minutes

by Benteke absolutely knocked the stuffing and bullied out of Norwich

and they haven't recovered. It hit Russell Martin on the arm and

Agbonlahor is saying that was handball and could have been a

penalty. I think you would have to say the arm moves towards the ball.

I would say that as much of a penalty as the one that Stoke got

yesterday. Hooper with the chance. Good save by

Brad Guzan. No consolation even for Norwich. It was a good ball to find

him and he was definitely on side. Clean through, one-on-one. Brad

Guzan wins the battle. Aston Villa's biggest win of the

season and all four goals came in 15 first-half minutes. A ready poor

start and it put us on the back foot, but after that, after we had

the equaliser, we were excellent. At the moment, it feels like a major

step back. Because of the manner of the defeat. We came here with the

intentions of continuing the form we have been showing and the first 25

minutes showed that, but in a real difficult and mad 15 minutes, it has

lost us the game. On that kind of form, there are no worries about

relegation, because you will score the goals that make sure they are

safe. Speaking I think you have to fight together, it is not just about

Benteke but I have to take my responsibility as well. It is about

the team and we showed that today. Last season, Kristian was having one

of those seasons where everything was going right. This season has

been up and down, but he is still scoring the goals. I think

Agbonlahor and Andreas Weimann were both excellent today, all three of

them. He said it's there, the three of them. The perception is that when

they played together but that triumvirate make Villa a side. --

better side. It is not just a perception, it is a fact. We say

they are counterattacking, and they are one down here. It did take them

a little while to get going. It was as though the Norwich call made them

a little bit angry, certainly the likes of Benteke, because he was

starting to get quite frustrated. The cross gets cut out and it is not

particularly good, but slowly, and surely, they started to get it

together. This is a little bit of frustration. He is looking for

people to move, not a lot is happening. He lays it off and he is

pointing to everybody. This is his moment of magic. Anyone can win the

ball, but he turns it into an absolutely brilliantly taken goal.

And after that, they were just up and running. It was like watching a

completely different team. The runs are fantastic because the Norwich

defender are all over the place. He comes inside. That is such a good

goal and all of a sudden, they make Norwich look very ordinary. On that

goal, Benteke, I said to you, is there anything you can do as a

defender to stop that? You can put your head in but you will get badly

injured. Sometimes you have to hold your hand up. He just exploded into

life. We had Norwich on Match of the Day 2 last Sunday beating Spurs and

the analysis was quite critical from Danny Mills. When we do our

analysis... Let us start by praising Norwich. Can you get some praise

back? In the opening exchanges, this was a different team to the one that

Danny was talking about. Hoolahan was involved in everything. They

don't use him enough. Great early pass, Hooper picks out. They were

ruthless in those early exchanges. They were still in the game but that

lovely turn, he gets it back, he is only denied by the keeper. They were

decent at times but there is no point in being decent at that end if

you do not defend enough. Chris Hughton said he feels like it was a

major defeat and that 15 minutes when Aston Villa were rampant,

Norwich fell apart, with all due respect to the fans. Is that fair?

It was going so well. They did not react or have the personality to

stay in the game and this ball that is played in, this is about who

wants it most. There is a hint of foul. He wants to get to that old, I

would be embarrassed if that was me. This is an area that Aston Villa

want to get into. He has to go with that runner, he has to slot across

and this was a comedy of errors. They can do better. They need to

improve, marking in the box... 59 macro... He turns. That was

inexcusable. -- Yobo. More character is needed. And they will defend

better. You cannot have a soft centre if you want to avoid

relegation because you will concede sloppy goals. Are some of those

mistakes about what is in here? Is that training ground staff? You will

feel disorientated, it was incredible the way that Aston Villa

responded, but you must show character and organisation and they

did not. Can I ask you some questions? 4-1, that is not a

defeat? No, major defeat. Two left to go.

of the month. Swansea fans might be having a tough time of late, but

last year... Rodriguez! What a wonderful finish!

Rosicky. He is in! Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. That is a

classic Arsenal goal. Here is Jelavic, getting away. The flag

stays down. Looking for support, he finds Jelavic! That is absolutely

terrific from the new strike partnership. They have not been

together very long. But they have got a wonderful understanding.

Rooney! Great finish. Tremendous finish. From Wayne Rooney. He fires

home a great right footed volley. Shelvey! What a great goal! He gets

a tremendous reception from the Liverpool fans, let alone the

Swansea fans. That was an absolute outer! Those are the ten goals. You

but if you rewind to last year, things could not be more different.

The ticker tape of Wembley must seem a lifetime ago. One League game was

against the visitors back in September. It was this Dutch ring,

frustrating start for Crystal Palace back to the top flag but the change

of manager and three wins in the last five have seen them start to

creep away from danger. Gary Monk celebrates one month in

charge of Swansea. It has been a frenetic for weeks. In contrast,

Tony Pulis has over 900 games as a manager. Three changes for Swansea.

Lyon Brittan comes in. Routledge faces the club where he started his

career. Palace have only five away goals in the Premier League this

season. Ledley might be in for an unfriendly reception from the

supporters. Swansea have lost their last two games at home here. Dyer.

Routledge. Can he get the shot? Not much in the power department from

Bony. Nice work again from Swansea, here.

Trying to take on Rangel. He needs support. He does not really have it,

though. Swansea get the throw. Visible frustration.

That counts as a shot from Crystal Palace. But not as any effort on

target. Common, the Welsh manager here at the Liberty Stadium.

Can he turn? Unable to gather all towards the goal. Unable to get

anything really behind it. But it is getting better from Crystal Palace

as they search for the equaliser. Time is against Crystal Palace.

Rangel. De Guzman. Plenty of room on that fireside for Routledge. --

fireside. -- far side. He has beaten him to edit! Is that a foul in the

penalty area? It is! Flores is going to get a red card. Calamitous

defending from Swansea. It is a challenge outside the area? This is

the first contact. Then another touch. Murray is down. He points to

the spot and Flores has been sent off. Murray. He has been out since

last May because of injury. And he scores! Crystal Palace are back on

level terms. And Swansea cannot say this has not been coming. They have

increased the pressure throughout the second half. Murray sends the

goalkeeper the wrong way to get his first Premier League goal. Here is

the challenge again. Certainly want to debate. What a moment that would

have been for Glenn Murray. 31 goals in total last season. His first in

the Premier League, and it may well have earned Crystal Palace a point.

Alice haven't actually had an away draw this season in the Premier

League. -- Palace haven't. It would be a huge point for them if they

were to return to London with a draw. Murray! Deflected wide.

The pressure is really on the Swansea goal now.

Can Yannick Bolasie find a team-mate? Jerome Thomas goes down!

It is a free kick to Swansea under caution to the Crystal Palace

substitute. Trying to win a penalty by unfair means. There is no contact

whatsoever from the Swansea man on the Palace man.

Jerome Thomas went down and was booked for simulation. He will be

fine. My when Chamakh has done one as well on the far side where he has

not been touched. It is something I have been strong on and they will be

fine. It is a disease that I think we almost rid of, it doesn't happen

as much as it used to, but if people do it, they have to be reminded that

it is not the right way. Lets cut straight to the main debating

point, the Crystal Palace penalty that earned them a point. Was a

penalty? Clearly not on the replays it is outside the area. The referee

made the decision from 16 yards away, further away from the ball

than I was. I think the first touches outside but he carries on

and does catch Glenn in the box. We are delighted we have a penalty and

that Glenn, after such a long injury, has scored. Where did you

think the contact was? I have been told it was outside the box but in

real time, it felt 100% inside. I think if we had had a longer rest of

the week we have just had, we could have maintained the standards. It is

probably 45 minutes too long, but the boys have been brilliant, taken

on board everything we have asked. Is it fair to say you were so much

better in the second half? What changed at half-time? We have worked

all week to try and play the ball through and get runners-up aside

quickly but we couldn't get out. Swansea kept regaining possession,

so that is my full. I came in at half-time and the lads were

disappointed but I said, I take full responsibility. Refreshingly honest

in many ways, Tony Pulis. Let's deal with Crystal Palace in the first

half. He said they struggle to get out, the half-time statistics,

Swansea had something like 82% possession. They didn't create that

many chances with that. This is the thing with Swansea, beautiful

football, patient but not enough cutting edge in the final third. It

was really only the goal and one other chance they created. The goal

itself, this is everything that is beautiful about the way it is

played. De Guzman is playing off the front, there is a good shape to the

team, Chico Flores, the centre half in a forward position. They keep

working it from side to side. It is movement off the ball. When it comes

to Williams, de Guzman comes out and you get the triangle effect. It is a

straight past that he wants to play. Wilfred Bony has defined one of

these options. Fullbacks are pinned by the wide players, it is a lovely

shape. He has options to play left or right. He plays it to play left

or right. He plays Italy on Leon Brittan and it. They want to get it

through and he does the rest. Simple and effective. They didn't do it

enough. This was the only other chance. Angle wrangle gets in and it

is a lovely run and it is a vital save. You think sometimes they want

to score the perfect goal. It is great to watch all of the passing

boat... We need them to be more direct? I don't mean hoofing but

what? It is the final third, recreating that situation. They

should have been out of sight by half-time but Tony Pulis was smart,

he sorted it out and was positive. One young manager, seven games in

the Premier League, 900 games Tony Pulis has and he showed it, and he

managed it at half-time with the changes. He said they needed more

targets to hit. Glenn Murray came on. Chamakh had already gone off

injured, he was just warming up and he just catches his firm. -- his

thumb. So it is strapped up! So now, to upfront, and they are

getting pushed on and when you start pushing players on to Swansea, it

makes it more difficult for them. Yes, it was totally different in the

second half. Look at the way they are flying out, putting pressure on.

Swansea couldn't go forward at all and mistakes came. As Martin says,

the mistakes are coming and Yannick Bolasie,

30,000 people in east London who don't think that was bad luck.

Swansea will say it was a good point, they could have lasted. They

have done well, they have had to cope with the Europa League and they

won't be relegated but it is difficult, that Sunday and Thursday

thing, it can put you out of kilter. Jerome Thomas is going to be

fined by Tony Pulis. I know why he died but at the same time, you say,

why do that when you could have shot or passed to Cameron Jerome -- I

know why he dived. He thinks about shooting but he sees Canas in front

of him, takes it inside and then he just falls over. It is ridiculous

but the great thing is, Tony Pulis, lots of honesty, he is going to fine

him Chamakh. We can't even find his dive! We have looked through all

of the footage and we can't find the one he's talking about, not one as

blatant as that. This time last year, Swansea were winning the

League Cup. This afternoon, Manchester City and Sunderland were

aiming to get their hands on it, we'll have the highlights are

Jake Livermore! 4-0, Hull City. Hundreds of Cardiff City fans bolted

for the exit as the ball hit the back of the net. So our final match

Spurs against Cardiff. After they both lost last weekend

and marches upon us, there has been a sense that these two clubs may

fall short of their league ambitions this season. Spurs marched on in

Europe on Thursday with another couple of goals from Emanuel

Adebayor. He is now Spurs' top scorer this season. Andros Townsend

sorts for the first time in the Premier League since Tim Sherwood

took over but Christian Eriksen is absent with a back injury. Ole

Gunnar Solksjaer unsurprisingly rings the changes. The return of

Gary Medel is a big positive. Craig Bellamy is back from suspension. But

what catches the eye most is the change of formation.

Lennon into Soldado! Soldado has not scored in his last eight

appearances. He really could do with a goal.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, who has seen just one league victory since his

appointment on the 2nd of January. Soldado with the header he cost ?26

million. Just lacking a little confidence, it seems.

Kim has immediately apologised for that and it will be the first yellow

card. That was nasty. And those that yellow card for Bellamy? I think the

yellow card were shown, Bellamy yellow carded. Overheard by Phil

Dowd, who clearly makes the signal to suggest Bellamy was talking out

of turn. Fabiola Silva had already committed

himself downfield, that is why Fryers was left in space -- Fabio.

That was much closer from Michael Dawson. If it had been on target,

I'm not sure the man on the line could have done anything about it.

All three of the central defenders are up. With players committed

downfield, there could be something for Spurs here. Soldado! Lovely! Now

that is more like it from Roberto Soldado! That is how he made his

name scoring goals, the Spaniard. Big smiles. Almost half an hour

played an Spurs are in front. Cardiff's defensive ranks were

committed downfield for the set piece and Adebayor, beautifully into

Soldado, quick feet, the touch and first-time finish. His first goal in

nine appearances. He almost looks like he can't believe it. And now

for our -- late done so and never Solskjaer, after five at the back,

the question is what do you do? Bellamy almost able to do something.

The last time they had a set piece at this end of the field, Tottenham

broke away and took the lead. Hugo Lloris perhaps being impeded

but the header struck the crossbar from Steven Caulker against his old

club. It was not given as a free kick. So close to equalising against

the club where he started his career.

Declan John. He went for goal himself with three Cardiff players

arriving in the middle. The young left back, 18 years old, he had the

confidence to do it. But Craig Bellamy may be thinking the naivete.

It has by no means been free-flowing today for Spurs, but they are still

in front. Lennon. Now then, Declan John in with the challenge, right on

the edge of the penalty area. Will this be a shot or will he look for

Adebayor and friends? He is backing away with meaning. Townsend. He made

that look comfortable. Only ten games left after this for Cardiff

City to save their Premier League lives and it is full at home next

Saturday. The bottom two. Townsend. Not far away. Townsend will have

some involvement against the Danish on Wednesday after his great impact

in the final qualifiers. Campbell. Oh, my goodness! Well, that has

caused quite a stir around White Hart Lane! I don't think they have

ever seen that before. Adebayor, he did not find Lennon.

Sandro, yellow card. This win will keep Spurs in touch with the top

four. But later this month, they have got home games against Arsenal

and Southampton. It stayed in! Adebayor. The lock is not going with

them. How on earth did that stay in? It seems destined to be one of those

days where Spurs are just labouring to get over the finish line. Kane,

that should have been game over. Chadli, releasing the ball to Kane.

We know how difficult it is after playing in Europe and our record

suggests a horrendous time so at these times we need to win ugly and

we did that today. We had one or two chances and we took one of them and

that won the game. We are happy with our play. I'm happy for Soldado. He

has done a lot. We are very happy for him and we

just have to recover and get ready for the weekend. An improvement but

another defeat? Big improvement, but was a team out there who believed in

what they were doing. Having a real go. We just did not have those

little margins. That was approved goal to concede. The counterattack

on us. And it hit the crossbar, that is just the margins. When they go

against you, you feel disappointment, you feel aggrieved

but... We will come onto Cardiff in a moment, but Adebayor was keen to

play up Roberto Soldado in that interview. By the developing

partnership? They have not played that often in the last four games.

That is another experiment. I am not sure they are really a

partnership, I do not think Roberto Soldado wants to get forward enough

into those positions. They find each other and he is the best that they

have linked up with all afternoon. Here, he wants it early, he does not

want to play the ball early, no one is really getting into the box.

There is no great movement, he comes out. I am not sure they work as a

pair. I think both players want to play up front on their own and they

better players on their own. The manager has to look at everything

available to him. Townsend has nothing to do with this. In the

seven games they have played together, they have won five of them

and drawn two of them but today, that goal was a little but of class

but they are almost like strangers together. You are just looking at

different ways of saying. Roberto Soldado has ignored him, he said

nice things afterwards but I have not seen that. For you, they are not

a partnership? I'm not sure that Roberto Soldado works hard enough

and Adebayor has to play in that central position, they are keeping

him hungry and working and he estimates very well so far and they

will push all the way for the Champions' League spots. You have to

say as well, the form which has been good under Sherwood is because he

has got Adebayor playing. You do not want to upset him because he could

disappear for three months. The header hit the bar, could he have

kept that in? He should have been scoring that. Back into the England

squad, it is harder to miss from there. Back against his old team. He

was more solid today, he should be scoring with that, without out. In

the post-match interview, sole charge said he was happy as a team.

He said that five wins out of the last ten games will keep them in the

Premier League. Here are those last ten games. Can they get five wins

from this? I do not think so, I think there is the stench of

relegation about Cardiff at the moment. No disrespect to him, he is

a very experienced Premier League manager and I do not get why they

ever sacked Mackay. They would have been ended out position with the old

manager. I think you are right, I'll be really surprised they are

struggling? The way they got promoted. He is building on the

positives but, for me, they will go down. The result of the Goal of the

Month is still to come after yesterday 's goals. And the odd

managerial indiscretion. Huddleston. It was kept out twice by Krul!

Debuchy. That was a good ball. And Newcastle United, having gone so

close to conceding a minute ago, take the lead. Through Sissoko. Is

an equaliser before half-time? That is short. Brilliant! He committed

himself. And Remy punishes that backpass. Hull City have a mountain

to climb. Bruce and Davis Cup on the back. -- up from the back. They are

back in it! And it is Davis! Just rolled into the net. Gouffran, can

Newcastle restored their advantage. Alan Pardew! He looked like he put

his forehead into the face of Meyler! I don't think that Alan

Pardew has got away with that just yet? He has been sent off. He is

unhappy. And there, you cannot do that! Players should not be doing

that. Alan Pardew has to watch the proceedings from the main stand.

Gosling is away. His first ever Premier League goal! What a

convincing win at the end of the day for Alan Pardew but his memories

will be tarnished by his stupidity in getting involved with Meyler.

Lovely touch. He continues with his run. And he scores the goal!

Schurrle kept his cool superbly. Has heard. He has got it through and

Schurrle has scored his second. That will surely do it for Chelsea? Two

goals for Schurrle. Both of them really well taken. He has on-site!

There was no messing that one. The match ball is going back the short

distance in the possession of Schurrle. Three quickfire goals from

the German. Fulham have been blown away by one man. And he is in again!

Heitinga. His first Fulham goal. Top meets bottom.

Stoke grabbing the initiative. Appeal for handball. And the rectory

has given it. Koscielny. And it is a penalty. There is not much more that

he could do about that? Jonathan Walters, who has missed four out of
