CROWD SING: You'll Never Walk Alone. Liverpool are seven points

away from their first title since 1990. We accept the position, we are

in the title race. What a blow to Chelsea hopes of lifting the league

title. What have Chelsea got left in their locker? You would think after

this that Manchester City cannot win the title. I would have taken this

when you walk through the door. And the miracle might just be about to

happen. They really need all three points. Next season will be the

massive one. There will be more stories to tell before the race is

completely run. But will the engraver have a clearer idea of who

to add to the Barclays Premier League trophy by the end of

tonight's show? It has been another dramatic day and we have three games

to show you. The battle at the bottom to come later, but there

really is only place to start. 12,500 people on that Kop,

deafening, sounding like thousands more, it feels like an irresistible

force of nature, but this is Chelsea, it is still Jose Mourinho,

and there are still points to be one before Liverpool dreams are anything

more than dreams. Liverpool can afford to draw but will not want to,

they cannot afford to lose. Sturridge is fit but on the bench,

the same team as played at Norwich. Jose Mourinho's side has been the

subject of speculation, we can by circumstance rather than choice.

Tomas Kalas coming in for a Premier League debut. Can Liverpool blow

away Chelsea in the early moments of the game, as they did Arsenal,

Everton, Manchester City, and Norwich last weekend, as they have

to so many? Or are Chelsea made of sterner stuff? Chelsea throw-in,

in the tunnel before the match and he did not seem well at all. Off

And that came off a Chelsea man last, Ashley Cole was on the line,

Mamadou Sakho, over the bar. Let off for Chelsea. From their point of

view, it fell to the right man, and for Liverpool, perhaps Sakho was not

who they would have wanted on the end of it. A terrific contest.

Ashley Cole into Luis Suarez. Did he lead with an elbow, the Chelsea left

back? Suarez will be OK, Martin Atkins and immediately awarded a

free kick. Why Ashley Cole lead with his left arm, I am not sure. They

share a birthday, Jose Mourinho and Brendan Rogers, the Portuguese

exactly ten years older. Sharing a joke, as well. Mohamed Salah, three

in the middle for the Egyptian, claiming handball, not going to get

it. And it is rushed downfield to Luis Suarez. And the referee says

that Suarez has fouled a ban of age. -- Ivanovic. It hit him as he turned

his back, Jon Flanagan. He was convinced. Or at least, appealing.

He is into how some proper gyp tomorrow, the amount of time he has

had that arming the air, showing that he stopped the watch.

is a corner. Correct decision, I think. Chelsea corner, the Liverpool

making contact, but not enough, otherwise, Liverpool were behind.

The run was not tracked, and Kalas might easily have headed Chelsea in

front. Gerrard slips, Demba Ba is onto it, and Demba Ba scores,

Chelsea have the lead! Liverpool zero, Chelsea one. Steven Gerrard,

the captain, slipping, and Demba Ba has popped up with another crucial

goal. Steven Gerrard, of all people. And Demba Ba slipped it

under the goalkeeper into the Liverpool net, and the title race is

on, and it might be a 3-way race again. Demba Ba away and on it, in a

flash. A very companies. -- calm finish. They said it was

Liverpool's title to lose, and well, they are losing this game. Adding on

time to compensate Liverpool, for Chelsea taking ages over every

throw-in and every free kick. The deflection on that, and Mark

Schwarzer makes a comfortable save, and it is the first Liverpool

attempt on target in the game. This could still be an absolutely stellar

season for Chelsea. Liverpool corner. Daniel Sturridge comes on

against his former club, to replace Lucas Leiva.

In comes the corner, just too high for Gerrard. Glen Johnson. Out by

Mikel. And a great save by Mark Schwarzer from Joe Allen, who has

not scored all season, with a tremendous volley. Wonderful save by

Mark Schwarzer. Atletico Madrid could not do it. Liverpool, so far,

have not been able to do it, breaking down Chelsea. Andre

Schurrle, inside Glen Johnson, great drive by Andre Schurrle, and a great

save by Mignolet, what a goal that might have been, a tremendous run

from Schurrle. He has been hit and miss this season, but there was

nothing amiss about that. Gerrard. Well hit. Mark Schwarzer

decided the best thing was to take the sting out of that. Flannigan. --

Flanagan. Coutinho. That is a great ball.

Suarez could not get anything on it. A lovely ball in from Coutinho.

Suarez could not make contact. They win at Manchester City was a work of

tactical mastery from Jose Mourinho. Matched in many regards by this

performance so far. Every time Chelsea have needed a tackle they

have found one, every time they have needed a block they have found one,

if they have needed to cover an angle, they have covered it, just a

few seconds to go now. Luis Suarez. Steven Gerrard. Deflection on that

from Azpilicueta. It is a corner. He is aghast, he did not think he made

any contact. Liverpool corner, and it is Raheem Sterling, into the box,

Luis Suarez, and Mark Schwarzer again. Practically the first shot of

the game from the Uruguayan. Agony for those on the pitch and those who

used to be on this page. There are about 90 seconds to go. Philippe

Coutinho for the poll. Daniel Sturridge. -- for Liverpool. Torres

is away, and Fernando Torres, who has never scored against his former

club, he feeds Willian, and Chelsea have won the game 2-0. What a result

for Jose Mourinho and Chelsea. The Liverpool title challenge derailed,

Chelsea back in the hunt, Manchester City might profit most of all, but

Jose Mourinho and Chelsea have done it. Sucker punch, again. Willian to

Torres, two against the goalkeeper, only one outcome. Chelsea are in a

3-way title hunt, it is over to Manchester City now, but it is now

out of Liverpool's hands. Liverpool nil, Chelsea two.

I am struggling to remember a single defensive error. It is teamwork. The

boys worked as a team and played for each other. As a team they played in

a fantastic way and it was a beautiful victory. Congratulations

to Chelsea, they get the result. My team is a team if they want to be

offensive and to be creative and today we could not make the

breakthrough. Chelsea were playing virtually with a back six. It was

interesting they got a booking for time wasting. It was clear from the

off that was the case. But, listen, we take that, it is part of the

game. It is not our nature. We aim to win the game in a sporting manner

and to be creative and attacking in our football. Demba Ba for Chelsea.

Chelsea have the lead. What was going through your mind?

I did not think. If I start thinking, I would miss the chance.

The only thing was to put the ball in the back of the net. Do you

expect it to be three teams on the last day? It could be. Manchester

City have got the games. Chelsea are two points behind us and they have

to win in the final couple of games. For as we will focus on

ourselves and look to get to Crystal Palace. We can say we won both

matches against the champions. Do you concede it is a 3-way title

race. Forget it. Will it be down to the last day? No. If you just saw

the post-match interviews it is worth reminding people that Jose

Mourinho won the game. He did not look happy and yet he should be. It

was a tactical masterclass from him and his players were absolutely

outstanding today and frustrated Liverpool from start to finish and

they never gave Liverpool any real chances and they deserve great

credit for that. He set his team up, whether you want to call it

four, five or six at the back, it worked incredibly well for them and

they were well organised. Three in midfield and four at the back. And

the wingbacks came in and tucked in. There is no space down the side.

There is no space behind and there is no space in between the back four

and the midfield. This is a different clip, it is not

the same one, but the shape is identical. It worked and you could

tell Liverpool were getting frustrated because in the end they

started knocking long balls. There is no way for Liverpool to go. Ten

men practically in their own 18-yard box. Why change it in the second

half? They got the goal just before half-time. Three in midfield and

practically six at the back and Liverpool are passing it, but not

with a purpose. They are trying to open up gaps, but there are none.

Look at the attitude of Frank Lampard. This is the last two

minutes. 35 years of age, getting back into position. It is away you

go, thank you very much, job is done. And that is what they did,

they did a on Liverpool. They frustrated them. You are talking

about players who have had a great season and they did not get any

chances today. You have to give Chelsea credit where credit is due.

Today there was no John Terry, who generally is the organiser. When we

look at Liverpool and what they did on the day, don't forget they have

blown teams away and I expected them to do so today. That was the first

half chance they had. With Chelsea everybody knew exactly what they

were doing. That was Mamadou Sakho, the wrong man in the right place,

unfortunately. This was really their first, authentic attempt on target.

This was not Liverpool in the end because everybody is back for

Chelsea. It is one against seven, so you are never going to win that.

Because the football has been so good, it goes of slightly and

everybody is frustrated. Then you start to play balls that are not on.

The Hollywood bowl. This was the 80th minute and the first time in

the game that they got round the back of Chelsea, that is how good

Chelsea were defensively. It is just not Liverpool. Normally it is into

the feet, around the corner, and all of a sudden they started taking

chances and giving the ball away. This set them up right at the end of

the game. But do not underestimate what Chelsea did. There is a

fascinating debate. Brendan Rodgers was frustrated and angry about the

way Chelsea played. Plenty of time wasting, it is difficult for us to

show all the time wasting in a 15 minute match. What did people expect

to Chelsea to do? Jose Mourinho has admitted they have not got an

outstanding striker. Liverpool better get used to that because the

more success they have, the more teams are going to do that,

particularly in the Champions League. Manchester United and

Barcelona have had that. Teams are going to defend. That is a real

backhanded compliment to Liverpool. And the tacticians and the coaches

will admire how Chelsea played and what Jose Mourinho did and how they

must have been drilled all week. You cannot play like that by sitting in

front of the board. That is because of hours on the training ground

doing drill after drill until they get it right and they were a perfect

today. I keep mentioning the word frustrating. They frustrated

Liverpool in the first 15 minutes because they know Liverpool blow

teams away at Anfield. Said they were right to timeless? They did a

job, the goalkeeper took his time, they were time wasting after ten

minutes, but that is part and parcel of the game. They probably only had

a couple of days working at the shape of the team and who was going

to play. For all the plays -- praise for Jose Mourinho, do you think Sam

Allardyce will be chuckling when he sees that because of what Jose

Mourinho said about West town? That is one thing you can throw at Jose

Mourinho, hypocrisy. Probably sometimes it is all about him, and

it is hypocritical, but it has got them a fantastic result today. He is

looking after his football club. It was over to the blue half of

Manchester at Crystal Palace. Manchester City would have been

monitoring proceedings at Anfield as they arrived in south London, but

for them that result 200 miles away changed nothing. For Pellegrini's

men to take advantage they would have to beat the Premier League's

most improved team, Tony Pulis' Crystal Palace who are revelling in

their role as kingmaker in this extraordinary title race. Is this a

pivotal moment? At Selhurst Park, Jonathan Pearce. Manchester City's

players and fans know that Chelsea have unlocked the door, but Selhurst

Park is the key. Jose Mourinho's team lost here. The league leaders

still have to come here in eight days. Marouane Chamakh returns from

an injury. Only six clubs have picked up more Premier points than

the Eagles since January the 1st. Yaya Toure returns.

Yaya Toure so badly missed in the home draw against Sunderland. Aiding

Jacko, in three and a half minutes. From looking completely proud of the

title race just days ago, having dropped costly points at Liverpool

and at home to Sunderland, Manchester City today can emerge as

title favourites once more. He had time to get the ball in. Julian

Speroni had no chance. It is his 22nd of the season. Crystal Palace

quite happy for Manchester City to have the ball there, but not here

now. It is a corner to Manchester City.

It was a great run by Zabaleta. He should have hit the target from

there really. There is a real tension about the place.

Yaya Toure said it hit his arm. He is still in the middle. Howard Webb

got that one absolutely right. This first half is just showing signs of

petering out. That is a superb goal from a player

who has had a magnificent season. Missed so badly by Manchester City

through injury. Back today and he has steered them 2-0 up. They are

re-emerging as Premier League title favourites once more. He went on and

on and bent it in deliciously. Power, drive, ambition, persistence

and ultimately a caress, finesse. Yaya Toure, 23 goals from midfield

in all competitions this season. Quite remarkable.

Jerome! The offside flag was raised anyway. That is a reminder to

Manchester City that the job is not done.

Joe Hart needed to get down and he needed that strong right hand.

Manchester City switched off momentarily. The chairman of Crystal

Palace. One of the team who stepped in and rescued the club. Crystal

Palace have only touched the ball three times in the Manchester City

penalty area. Look at the power of Yaya Toure. Scott Dann read the

situation. Marouane Chamakh is progressing. He

just dwelled on the ball slightly too long. More promising for the

home side. He looked like an upright 200 metres

sprinter there. Guerreiro waiting on the edge of the penalty box.

--Aguero. Aguero still going. Goes to the near post. Away by Joe

Ledley. Garcia, to Toure. A gap opening up for him so that he could

get that shot away. Could not draw the ball back, and Manchester City

will rescue Yaya Toure, he has been a major difference between the

sides, hugely powerful and influential. One of THE most

influential players of the campaign, and on comes Fernandinho, to replace

him. No faulting Crystal Palace for effort and commitment.

Edin Dzeko, cutting inside, deflected, a good save. Joel Ward

got it away. Probably Manchester City's best effort of the second

half. Ward. City tackling in pairs, but unfairly. Fernandinho,

protesting his innocence. Now, was that Tom Ince being held? Lumped

away, Ince with the run, went over the Manchester City Blair, and

Howard Webb, quite rightly, unmoved. Good decision. He has had a few

today. -- City player. As long as Manchester City keep possession,

they will see the game out. They certainly have played well within

themselves in the second half, Manchester City.

We are City, we will fight to the end, as the song on the lips of the

travelling fans, as Martin Demichelis goes up for this free

kick which will be the last attack of the game. Good strong claim, from

Joe Hart, and Manchester City have seen it all turned around. Is this

the most significant Sunday of the season so far? Manchester City back

in the driving seat. It was important to score early and

not to concede. We had again a clean sheet. I think that was a great

performance. The goal gave them a massive lift, as did the result

before the game. We needed for that to be a tight game and we never made

it that tight. When you play against the top teams, all of our players

have to pick -- play at the top of their game. We were just a little

bit of it, today. We must play three games more. The other teams, two

games more, so you will see in future, who is the best. We have to

prepare ourselves and get ready for Liverpool. The Barclays Premier

League is the most competitive league in the world, and we have to

show that, against Liverpool. We have up responsibility to the rest

of the league to put performances in. We want to focus on all of those

games and try to win them, but Everton as a good side. I think with

the quality that we have, I think that we can deal with that. Not many

weeks go by on this show of the Saturday show without looking at

Yaya Toure. He is kind of impossible to ignore. His performance today was

nothing short of fabulous. It is good for Manchester City, because

they had no David Silva. They go into this game knowing that

Liverpool have just been beaten by Chelsea. It is not just his range of

passing. He has got absolutely everything you could possibly want

from a midfield layer. Crystal Palace helped because they played

more adventurously, so he had space in midfield, and when you give him

that, he can take you apart. He was just strolling around. All of a

sudden, he opens his legs up, and boy, he just cannot quite squeeze

the ball through. But, just look at this, very simple, it is not on, he

gives it back, get their head up, and bang. Great ball. As a centre

forward, it makes it easy for you to make your runs. Just brilliant. He

gets a little bit of a break, but he earns it. And the finish. It is

Aguero-esque. He said about the goals, you do not have to look at

them, they do not move! He has given the eyes to two Crystal Palace

defenders and Julian Speroni but you are not giving him credit.

Absolutely fantastic. If Manchester City needed that kind of

performance, it was today. We think that the right -- they are right

back in the title race. That is a proper performance from a midfield

player. Great confidence before the game knowing that the result had

gone for them at Anfield. We could probably have just put that on and

played classical music over it. Now that you put me away for suggesting

that it was great that he did not look at the goal, next time I will

just put music over it. Let's look at the title race. Who are your

favourites? City are back in pole position. Are they your favourites?

I do not like people who change their minds week in, week out, but

you have got to say that Manchester City I'm the seat. Just the way this

season has been, I think there might be another twist. When you look at

the remaining fixtures, would you suggest it would be Everton away,

for Manchester City, or Crystal Palace away, for Liverpool? Most

definitely, no argument about that. The other thing in favour of

Manchester City, David Silva will be backed by the weekend, so you have

got Yaya Toure and David Silva, and Sergio Aguero has more minutes in

terms of being physically fit. How can you predict anything when

Sunderland have to go to City and Chelsea? After seeing the top three

teams in the country, now it's time for the bottom two. For both

Sunderland and Cardiff today was perhaps a last chance to save

themselves in a season # Nobody's fault but mine... # If I

die and my soul be lost... # Nobody's fault but mine.

The commentator at the Stadium of Light, Alistair Mann. Catalogue of

reasons why Cardiff sit and Sunderland find themselves in such a

desperate plight, but both of them know that victory today would

elevate them out of the relegation zone. With three of their remaining

four games at the Stadium of Light, Gus Poyet knows it could come down

to his side's composure against an atmosphere laced with anxiety. He

keeps faith with the 11 who succeeded at Chelsea, resisting the

temptation to bring back Phil Bardsley from suspension. Cardiff

have accumulated four points in the last two games. Don Cowie gets his

first start since Perry, Fraizer Campbell makes a return to the

Stadium of Light since been sold 16 months ago, and another former

employee, Kenwyne Jones, is on the bench.

Mats Daehli, he only has Campbell with whom to work. Jordon Mutch,

bursting forward. And now, bringing in Whittingham and

Gary Medel. Campbell took it well. Was he brought down? Wes Brown fell

towards him. Campbell did not make much of it, to be fair. He was

certainly fouled by Wes Brown, albeit Wes Brown fell onto him, but

the reason that Campbell goes down is that Wes Brown catches him. The

referee was dismissive and Campbell did not make much of it. I wonder if

he thought that that might be a penalty? John O'Shea, striding

purposefully forward. Johnson winning the corner. They used to

call it the Roker Roar. The Stadium of Light trying to match the

atmosphere that that famous old ground used to create. Plenty of

targets for Sebastian Larsson to aim for. Good in swinging corner, and

Connor Wickham with a terrific header. He has done it again.

Sheffield Wednesday and lead United had his services for most of this

campaign -- Leeds United, but he has been recalled, and he is chipping in

with the goals that could mean that Sunderland stay up. He had scored

just one goal in as first 37 Premier League games, but all of a sudden he

has four in three. A very difficult header, but look at the control he

gets on it. He could not have expected it to come to him, you only

had a matter of seconds with which to react, and Gus Poyet does not

know whether to jump for joy all look calm, so he does a bit of

both! What a goal, in a huge fixture. Just one win in the last 14

away matches, but it was last time out at Southampton. They need a

win, today. He has made a dreadful mistake,

Connor Wickham gets beyond him, and it worked like he was fouled by

Cala. Phil Dowd has given a penalty, belatedly, and a red card

for Cala, for pulling him back. That was an advantage of incredible

proportions, as Connor Wickham try to get beyond Cala, and then when

Connor Wickham was forced away from goal by David Marshall, then, Phil

Dowd said penalty, and Redcar. -- red card. Referees can call upon the

advantage rule, and the delay before Phil Dowd gave a penalty just shows

how long that advantage rule can be played for, because he allowed

Sunderland to go on, and only when it was cleared, did he give a

penalty and a red card. Cala, He gives the ball away, then he holds

Connor Wickham, denies a goal-scoring opportunity, the

penalty has been awarded, and it could be 2-0 against ten men. Fabio

Borini, who scored the winning penalty against Chelsea at Stamford

Bridge, could well give Sunderland three points that could edge them

towards safety. And he does. Sunderland with a firm grip on three

points, that will take them out of the relegation zone. An

extraordinary moment in the match. Phil Dowd waving play on, so that

Connor Wickham could try and get a shot away, and when you could not

get that shot away, he pulled the ball back, gave a penalty and sent

off Juan Cala. Fabio Borini kept his composure and sent Marshall

initially the wrong way, and then beyond him,

initially the wrong way, and then area? It was. You can debate whether

it should have been a free kick, but Sunderland, two up against ten men

and his side might well be down and out.

still Cardiff have not had an effort on target. It is a free kick. It is

in a good area. Whittingham has it within him to score from these kinds

of positions. That was a good reaction save by Vito Mannone. It

was deflected. He adjusted his position and his first save of the

match is a really good one. Just a bit of keep ball from Sunderland.

They need do no more. A good save by Marshall. He did not

know and of the lot about it. But as long as he got something on it.

Fabio Borini was within a whisker of guaranteeing three points. He has

brought on Kenwyne Jones, Wilfried Zaha, but his side cannot find a

goal. Sunderland have got much better result against the better

teams in the Premier League. And they have lapped up victory here.

Just on the field and he thinks Cardiff City and it takes Sunderland

out of the bottom three and they may well be sending the visitors down.

He has only been on the field a matter of moments and in the blink

of an eye he sent the ball out of the reach of David Marshall into the

corner of the Cardiff goal. It is 3-0. And the miracle that Gus Poyet

described his side would need when they were crushed at White Hart Lane

at the beginning of April is beginning to look as if it might

come true. His side are out of the relegation zone. Elliott Shaw took

the decision to bring in Gus Poyet and replace Paolo Di Canio. At last

they are out of the bottom three and the noise and the statement is that

they are daring to dream. Sunderland understandably in no need

to hurry. Double figures for their corner account. And they get number

four. Connor Wickham, who started it all off, completes what has been a

terrific display. Another goal for him and he has suddenly provided the

golden touch that Sunderland so desperately needed. The man who

helped Sunderland beat Chelsea and Manchester City has helped to take

Sunderland out of the relegation zone. They have had a tough season

on and off the pitch and the boys here have a great attitude we can

still get 36 points, so two big games to come. We found ourselves at

the bottom again and we cannot give away this opportunity. What did you

make of the incident at the end of the first half when you went down to

ten? It does not matter, what I say to you, it happened, everyone does

not have to agree, but he is in charge. Do you think referees should

take as long to play the advantage? It is the best decision I have ever

seen in my life. I do not remember another action that the referee made

such a perfect decision. That brings the game to where we all want with

players trying to keep going. Like I said, the best decision ever. I am

on a high personality and my team is on a high and we took points at

Chelsea and today we have taken points and it is a massive boost for

the club, the players and the start. We have to stay grounded and

keep working hard. I am assuming Gus Poyet is not going

to be charged with sarcasm by the FA. It was the best decision he ever

saw. The referee got it absolutely spot on. It is a common-sense

decision as well. Cala makes a mistake. He also turned him round

slightly. He could have run in a more direct angle for a goal-scoring

opportunity. I think Phil Dowd was absolutely great. He grabs hold of

him and he still has him. It is a FIFA rule 12. That is where he is

being turned around? Yes and he has to change direction. I think it is

an outstanding decision. Referees are allowed to let play go on for a

few seconds before calling it back for a advantage and the rule is if a

defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area and

continues holding him inside the penalty area, the referee must award

a penalty kick. Would I be right to say that Connor Wickham had a good

game? He has had a few good weeks to be honest. Five goals. I thought he

played the part brilliantly. It is a tough role playing up front on your

own. He was big, strong, he held the defenders off and he brought his

team-mates into the game. He is full of confidence as you can see. And

settled. And settled and he read the game very well. You have to do this.

A great touch on his chest and it helps when you have got midfielders

who are willing to run past you like that. Work rate? No complaints at

all. Doing his bit for the team. A little bit selfish? Why not? He has

got his goals, take the gamble and have a go. That is a cute and clever

header. You are taught that as a kid.

Also he is positive. He wants the ball more than his marker. What a

time to come into form. He found it difficult, but for a young guy it

was a massive price tag and the pressure was going to be on him and

it has taken him a bit of time, probably more time than he wanted,

but you can see the potential. That is why the loan system is good. They

sent him away to Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday, he got himself match

fit. You then understand more about your role. When you get back to the

Premier League club you appreciate it a bit more. No disrespect to

Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds, that when you get your opportunity you

It has been a difficult week for the club. I think most reasonable

football fans will know the fact he was the wrong person for the job. If

players and the club have let him down and he has paid the price with
