Three games and three guests on tonight's Match Of The Day 2.

With me in the studio, Brad Friedel, Martin Keown and, upholding the new

Match Of The Day rule that at least one person in the studio has to have

Leicester-Arsenal and Villa against Hull coming up,

Spurs v Liverpool is a game with so many subplots, scores to settle,

points to prove and the return of one football's great characters.

Mario Balotelli is back. I think it is a good deal.

The same old problems for Liverpool. Sergio Aguero, with his first

touch! It is five! Mauricio Pochettino starts with two

victories. It is three! It is Emmanuel Adebayor!

Roll-up for the Mario Balotelli mystery tour. The centre forward

inevitably the centre of attention, and straight into the Liverpool

team. But a Tottenham victory would put them on top and leave Liverpool

six points adrift after three games. The team selection is not too taxing

for Tottenham, the 11 which battered QPR. Only Hugo Lloris and Younis

couple started on Thursday in the Europa League. Erik Lamela equals

his total appearances for the last campaign. Raheem Sterling will play

behind the strikers. Javi Manquillo and Mamadou Sakho come in. It has

been a perfect start to the season for Mauricio Pochettino and

Tottenham Hotspur, in this, their biggest test yet.

It'll save well by Hugo Lloris. Mario Balotelli almost scored inside

two minutes. A really good ball in, a powerful header straight at the

French goalkeeper. If that is a sign of things to come, that partnership

looks like it might be well conceived.

Liverpool are in front. Raheem Sterling, the eighth minute of the

game. Liverpool scored five here last season. They have taken only

eight minutes to score here this season. A good run from Jordan

Henderson. Into the path of Raheem Sterling. A really good Liverpool

goal. Not the easiest finish, not a lot to aim for. But he hit the spot,

Liverpool are in front. A big name for Liverpool, after Monday's defeat

at Manchester city. They strike first. It is the first goal

Tottenham have conceded in the Premier League this season.

Emmanuel Adebayor did not finish, but he might have done. A

straightforward way through Liverpool's backline. Emmanuel

Adebayor running in behind. Simon Mignolet gambled that he would not

be able to finish, and it paid off. Still plenty of opportunity to get

something from this game for Tottenham. Clean sheets are few and

far between for Liverpool. It is a foot wide. Liverpool look dangerous.

Eric Dier fouling Daniel Sturridge. A free kick. He made a fantastic

start to his career in English football, Eric Dier. Tottenham need

to keep this out. Another chance. For Mario Balotelli. A great

delivery. Mario Balotelli should be doing better than that. He did not

get enough contact on it. Well taken by Hugo Lloris. The early

indications are that the partnership might be fruitful. It is quite a

partnership that will ever be as good as the one formed by Kenny

Dalglish and Ian Rush. Marry a ballot tally was way off

target. Three very presentable opportunities that he has had in the

first half an hour of this game. A really poor clearance by Hugo

Lloris. Mario Balotelli was not even close. Brendan Rodgers' only regret

will be that Mario Balotelli has not taken one of those chances. It has

been an engrossing half of football so far. A good save, Simon Mignolet.

A great opportunity, by a long way Tottenham's best. Nacer Chadli did

not test Simon Mignolet enough. Delicately poised, Tottenham had

good spells in the first half, but Liverpool could have extended their

lead, principally through Mario Balotelli.

A penalty. Eric Dier averaged out his hand and pulled at Joe Allen,

and it is a Liverpool penalty. The left arm comes out. A crazy thing to

do. Liverpool with the opportunity to double their lead.

Can Hugo Lloris, trumps for Tottenham Hotspur? Liverpool's

captain scores. He doubled their lead. Hugo Lloris test right, he got

a touch, but it was too powerful and precise.

It will be difficult now to keep the winning run going for Mauricio

Pochettino. Andros Townsend has been talked about as a possible part of a

deal to bring Morgan Schneiderlin to Tottenham.

Alberto Moreno with a marvellous goal. That should put Liverpool out

of sight. Andros Townsend only just brought on, Alberto Moreno this

possesses him, he starts running and he does not stop for he is

celebrating a wonderful goal. If you are going

goal for your new club in a new country, you might as well make it a

good one. The plan has worked to a T.

Hugo Lloris has two bundle it behind for a corner.

Dejan Lovren. A chance. He cannot get over it enough, but he has had

an excellent game. Tottenham's old Achilles heel from last season, in

eight matches against the top four, they managed just one solitary

point, they scored two goals and conceded 27.

It was the run of a genius and the finish of a four-year-old. There are

very few players in world football who can do that, or I can do that!

It has been a chastening experience for Tottenham today. Three minutes

to add-on. Tottenham thought that should have

been a penalty, the referee did not. They John Glover is pulling his

shirt, that is as much a penalty of the one which put Liverpool 2-0 up.

They may say it was the key moment of the game.

What a way to respond. It is always good to bounce back with a victory,

that was the aim today, and the boys did really well. We got through it

really well. We came here last year and had an exceptional performance

to win 5-0. Today was just as good, we could have scored five or six. We

were very good, the quality was excellent, and I was really pleased

with our defensive organisation. In the first 45 minutes, we competed

very well, we created chances. It is true, the key moment in the second

half, a soft penalty. I think it is no penalty.

difficult, because Liverpool are a good team. We need to build our

confidence. Mario Balotelli could have scored after two minutes. Yes,

brought straight into the team, he has had a wonderful week of

training, let him concentrate on his football, and he has to do. He is

pressure, strength, he is excellent. He is a world-class player, somebody

I am hoping to develop with. The team made well, but Raheem Sterling

for special. Yes, I had to laugh at his moment of skill, he finished

like Ricky Gervais! He can laugh about it, smile and joke, because

Sterling was so impressive. Yes, wide players have always been the

best players, but if you are brave enough to put them into a central

position, they are extra special. He was magnificent in the deep line

position. Just looking at the analysis, Gerrard allows Sterling to

come deep. Tottenham tried to press early, but Liverpool are great at

getting out. They pass it for fun. Sturridge wants to make yards with

the ball, testing defenders. When it comes to Sterling, he wants to go at

you. He is patient. Gerrard seized there is an overload on the left and

it is a great ball in. Balotelli should get his goal, but doesn't.

Gerrard, nice and firm. He is going through the heart of the Tottenham

scene, and Sturridge is on his bike. He is a handful, testing the keeper,

just going wide. Henderson wants to make miles up front at the

midfield. Has he got the technique? It is a difficult ball. Running at

speed. Yes, he has the technique. Henderson, the same. He wants to

find the area. Can Henderson -- can Sterling read where it is going? A

great finish with his left foot. Sterling will not stop running. He

is like two players in one. He is floating with the ball. He just

fluffed his lines at the end. We can forgive him, he was magnificent on

the day. We saw a real understanding between Sterling and Henderson and

Sturridge. From the Spurs point of view, Brendan Rodgers said Mauricio

Pochettino will turn Spurs around. They will become a very good side,

he is a good coach. Did this game comes a month too early for Spurs,

as he tries to implement his methods? I am not sure. We were

confident going into this game. It did not pan out for us. There were a

couple of chances, we had chances to make it 1-1. One thing I would agree

with Brendan Rodgers on, I couple of chances, we had chances to

make it 1-1. One think Mauricio Pochettino will be very successful

at Tottenham. We lost today, but there is no panic stations. Everyone

is calm. He wanted to address that to the players. We made mistakes

today, absolutely, but there is only one place to rectify that, hard work

on the training ground. The calmness is key, not overreacting to defeat.

Absolutely right. Every team will win some games and lose some games.

We did not want to lose today, to one of our teams in the rivals in

the top six or top four. However, we did, so we have to pick out the

bones. He will address it. How calm is he on the inside? You have seen a

lot of managers. You 43, still in the Premiership club, brilliant. How

good is the manager? A good manner manager, a good conversationalist.

He has no problem delivering bad news as well. He has his plans. He

goes out on the training ground, very precise in his directions, and

it is up to the players to deliver. If the players cannot deliver, they

will be out of the door and new ones will come in. Let's look at

Balotelli. Would you say it was an understated hour? Understated maybe,

but no doubt about its quality and strength. Will he fit into the

Liverpool team? It depends on his intensity. Can he get about the

pitch? Fantastic turn, lots of strength. He will be disappointed,

he should be hitting the target. Brendan Rodgers seems to like it. A

lot of talk about how Balotelli will affect them in a negative way. In a

positive way, everybody was playing really well around him and he was

adding something. Rogers was relaxed with him. Of

course he is, everyone says he's a great influence on the changing

room. So much negativity around malice that -- Mario Balotelli going

into Liverpool Football Club, based on his relationship with Mancini.

The biggest thing for Brendan Rodgers was he said they kept a

clean sheet. Yes, they've brought Lovren in at the back. Very much the

leader. Pointing the finger. He was a bit mixed in the game. He has

finished off very good in the end. He is miles away from his team-mate.

Adebayor should be punishing him. Similar -- something similar

happened against Aguero. Let Sakho deal with that. Instead, he goes

fishing, trying to win something that is not his. He leaves a gaping

fishing, trying to win something that is hole and it should have been

punished. This is when the game changed for him, getting Adebayor,

very quick. That impressed me. After that, very solid. Read everything

well. Again, another important interception. By the second half, he

had nailed it. Look at this for an interception, first class.

Ewan-macro you played against him. You notice his positional sense. If

he makes a mistake, he will cover. He is very quick, very strong. A

fantastic buy for Liverpool. Last weekend, Eric Dier got lots of

praise,. Things changed today. Dier-macro got a penalty and Moreno

conceded a goal. This is a soft penalty. He puts the pressure on the

referee to make a decision. But if any person on the streets gets

touched like this they don't fall over. We've been it was never a

penalty for me. We have to move on! I think it is a soft penalty. You

can say clever play. On the third goal here, keep in mind we are 2-0

down so pressing the game. The two centre halves are in a vulnerable

position. Vertonghen and Younis need to get back at an angle, Capoue is

going to have to come back at an angle as well. Mourinho is a quick

player. Dembele needs to come back. Possibly go back in a straight line.

They are going to have to use the top of the box as a stopping point.

Kaboul will have to start making his way, he drops off a bit in a

vulnerable position. Moreno is too quick, the Capoue. Kaboul was not

able to influence. It gave him no chance. That is one of my favourite

lines, I have done this show for just over a year, the game is all

about opinions, but I have got no time for yours! Still no time for

Bergkamp. Bergkamp's second. It is deflected! Bergkamp, a hat-trick. A

great touch by Bergkamp, it is unbelievable! Would you believe it?

! Leicester's Premier League matches against Arsenal started well with a

2-1 win in 1994, but since then, that 3-3 draw in 1997 has been a

highlight in the 11 league matches since. Arsenal have won eight,

drawing three, scoring more goals than Leicester. Today, at the King

Power, Simon Brotherton. COMMENTATOR:

Leicester City's to start is not about to get easier today. Their

manager, Nigel Pearson, has named an unchanged team for this one.

Cambiasso's international clearance has come through, but the new

signing will start on the bench, soak Hammond and King continuing the

centre of midfield. All eyes on who is going to lead the Arsenal attack

in the absence of Giroud, and it will be Sanogo through the middle.

Ramsey returns to the side after suspension, with Wilshere and

Oxlade-Chamberlain on the bench. The general consensus so far, just two

games in, is that Leicester have acquitted themselves reasonably

well, with a credible -- with a creditable performance. Defence

turns into attack for Leicester City. In towards Leonardo Ulloa.

Nugent was lurking in space behind him. Cambiasso there, waiting for

his first appearance for his new club. International clearance having

come through for the former into lensman -- Inter Milan midfielder.

He collides with Koscielny. A clash of heads between the pair of them.

Anxious times for Arsene Wenger. Ozil and Ramsey combining.

Leicester, quick to move the ball forward.

Not a bad shot, either. The best part of the game so far, in the 17th

minute. Not too far wide of the post. Arsenal trying to prise open

this blue wall on the edge of the Leicester City penalty area. A lucky

deflection off Dean Hammond, which took it out wide towards Debuchy.

Sanchez is there, with his first I merely goal for Arsenal! -- Premier

League goal for Arsenal axe 90 minutes in, Arsenal are ahead. Watch

Sanogo as he goes for it. He is onside as the ball is played. It

would not come down quickly enough for him, but it came down quickly

enough for Sanchez, who buried the chance. And Arsenal take the lead.

It was Sanchez who scored the goal that field the deal in the Champions

League game against Besiktas during the week. The goal was worth a lot

of money. The team have their place in the group stages for the 17th

consecutive season. The Arsenal fans in good voice. He has been named in

Gareth Southgate's England U21 squad, for the upcoming matches.

Leonardo Ulloa! That is the sort of response the home crowd were looking

for! Arsenal's lead did not last long at all. There is nothing too

fancy about Leonardo Ulloa, but he knows where the goal is.

A good cross, a fine finish, out of Szczesny's reach. The header was

expertly dispatched. That goal will have been akin to

this poking a stick into a hornet's nest. Chambers on for Arsenal.

That was Chambers' first touch of the game since coming off the bench,

and what a decisive interception it was as well.

Had a hint of a penalty, had a look at the referee. The challenge from

Hammond, it caught him on the ankle. The referee, Anthony Taylor, was in

a good position. A less than straightforward afternoon for Arsene

Wenger's team here. Oh, it is just wide! So nearly 2-1.

They could not quite find the back of the net. Leicester City opening

Arsenal appear, and he looked for the world as if he was going to

score. Having got rid of the defender, the goal looked so

inviting. But the shot agonisingly wide of the post. Leicester, you

sense, will not get many more chances as good as that between now

and the final whistle. Ramsey, trying to take control of

proceedings. Beautifully done. The flag stayed

down there for Ramsey. But it was straightforward for Schmeichel.

Lovely play from Arsenal. Just lacking the finishing touch.

Kasper Schmeichel saves it. Nacho Monreal with the powerful one, Yaya

Sanogo seeing his shot blocked. Another creditable performance for

Nigel Pearson's side, they settle into life in the Premier League.

It did not quite four for Matthew Debussy.

What a save! A good stop from Wojciech Szczesny. Real excitement,

as Leicester threatened school. Jamie Vardy did so well. It was a

good save from the Arsenal goalkeeper. It preserves a point.

I am pleased with how we have gone about the game, we tried to win, we

have not been negative, and we will continue to do that, because we have

belief in the players that we have, that we have the capacity to get

better. On paper, a very difficult start, it would be nice to have more

points, but we have acquitted ourselves pretty well. They played

well, they defended with a lot of heart, and were a bit unlucky. We

conceded a goal when Lauren Koscielny was injured. But

conceded a goal when Lauren Koscielny was injured. a draw is a

fair result. You have a compatriot here, a big signing for the club.

Yes, he has many assists -- he has much experience and quality. For me,

it is good because I can speak in Spanish.

They took the game to Arsenal. Yes, I like their energy, they have so

much in wide positions. Riyad Mahrez comes inside, so confident, he likes

to shoot from distance, he is playing like a Premier League

player. Jeffrey Schlupp on the other side, look at this for confidence.

Really good movement, he did the same for the goal. Excellent all

afternoon. They want to pass out from the back. Riyad Mahrez again.

Energy, controlled, he can beat players. Perhaps he should pass to

Leonardo Ulloa, but he shoots. It is good play, and you have to be solid

at the back as well. Ritchie de Laet, nice and strong and reliable.

That is what they were all over the pitch. I liked their intensity,

their desire to close down. They wanted to win challenges, make it a

physical game, and when they did that, they invariably won the

challenges. You have got to work hard. Alexis Sanchez was Arsenal's

hardest working player, but Riyad Mahrez did more. Now, he is playing

with his head, it takes great energy and desire. He is better when he

comes inside. Only the defending denies him the opportunity.

Leicester always had the opportunity. I thought Nigel Pearson

got his tactics spot on, a tough start to the campaign for them,

Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal, but he knows that the attacking options

that Arsenal have, the fluid movement, the ball detention's

retention, was going to be difficult, but he set up traps and

attacked when Arsenal had to defend high up the pitch, and you can get

Per Mertesacker into space, with space between him and the penalty

box. They were direct and precise. Let's talk about Arsenal's attacking

options, a huge debate about Arsene Wenger, whether he will bring in a

striker. We are active, nobody can predict

what will happen in the last 24 hours. But let's not fool ourselves,

he have to buy a player every time you do not win, it would be too

easy. Yesterday, Manchester United got a draw, Manchester City lost,

they have plenty of strikers. You have to respect your opponents and

try to win the games. Was it easy to contrast the

strikers? Leicester seemed more potent in attack, considering

Arsenal are supposed to be challenging for the title. An easy

opportunity, but look at the touch. You talk about quality, but he is

not happy to just do that. He is calm and composed. He will be

disappointed he did not hit the target, but that what the right

thing to do. You contrast that with Yaya Sanogo, he is young, but that

is his first touch. Is he into early? I think so. He played well,

but those key moments, you have to show quality and composure, it was

not there. He makes a good one, he gets the opportunity, these are the

opportunities that people will remember and decide whether he will

be a matchwinner. The Guardian report that Arsenal will go head to

head with Manchester City to sign Falcao. If they do not sign a

striker tomorrow, how would you set them up for their next game? This is

what we have looked at, whether he makes a change in formation, plane

with two strikers. I do not see why you cannot have Lukas Podolski at

the top, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil,... They have lots of options.

People have been saying a lot about the striker, but other people need

to find their form. Because of the attacking options, but all he got

the injury to Olivier Giroud, I do not think he was going to go for

another striker. The way that they pass and move, and they have the

oval cot coming back, I think he sees another formation. But they are

the weakest out of the top four, they need to bring somebody in.

Next to two sides who have had bad weeks.

Aston Villa were dumped out of the League Cup by Leyton Orient,

while Hull failed to progress to the group stages of the Europa League.

At Villa Park as both sides tried to return winning ways, Martin Fisher.

Costly cup except for both clubs spoilt what had been encouraging

starts. Today's winners will enter the international break in the top

five, but the curse of Villa Park stand in their way. Hull City's last

victory was in 1967 hey, Aston Villa have only won one of their last six

on home soil. One floor and Aly Cissokho have shaken off knocks, so

Paul Lambert names the third 11's the same 11 for the third match

running. Michael Dawson comes straight in for Hull City, just days

after his arrival from Tottenham. Andrew Robertson and Tom Ince have

found their feet. Nikica Jelavic is their only striker. Aly Cissokho

missed the defeat against Leyton Orient with an ankle injury. A

brilliant move from Aston Villa. Andreas Weimann and Gabriel

Agbonlahor initially. Fabian Delph only had eyes for goal. Something to

excite the Aston Villa faithful. Paul Lambert's third season.

A terrific goal for Aston Villa. Gabriel Agbonlahor break the

deadlock inside the opening 40 minutes. -- 14 minutes. Rewarded for

some bright, inventive football. It is a smashing goal. Nikica Jelavic

conceding possession. Gabriel Agbonlahor with a true finish, think

Allan McGregor no chance. He only scored four goals last season, that

is only their second shot on target, it has brought them their

second goal. Gabriel Agbonlahor is off and running. Paul Lambert can

sit down for the first time this afternoon.

That is a poor challenge from Fabian Delph. No theatrics from Paul

McShane. That is probably what prevents a yellow card coming Fabian

Delph's way. He picks up more than his fair share of yellow cards.

With Brad Guzan flat-footed on his goal-line, a yard or two closer to

him, that would have been the equaliser. Steve Bruce was so

disappointed to crash out of the Europa League so early, beaten on

away goals by their Belgian opponents.

Paul Lambert has to deal with the continuing act since -- absence of

Christian Benteke. They hope he might be back in early October.

They picked their way through a hesitant Hull City defence to shut

-- to such good effect. Andreas Weimann gets his second of this

season. It was careless from Michael Dawson. Once Aston Villa had it,

they looked to do something with it. It is good passing at close

quarters. Look at the room he has got and the composure in his finish.

Having soaked up a bit of pressure in the last five minutes, Aston

Villa double their lead. It is difficult already to see a way back

in this one for Steve Bruce and Hull City. When Aston Villa have shots on

goal, they make the most of them. It is their third on target this

season, and their third goal. Allan McGregor keeps Hull City in

it, just. The referee in the perfect

position, and out comes the card for Curtis Davies. It has been a

miserable return to Villa Park for him. Is it about to get even better

from an Aston Villa point of view? Even worse for Hull City?

Hitchcock the post. It was hooked away by Michael Dawson. A terrific

effort from Ashley Westwood, it could not have been much closer.

A confident strike from the summer signing from Fulham. I think he

would have preferred a square pass. Still, Brad Guzan hasn't fielded a

shot on target. Not the past that he was looking for, but it fell

shot on target. Not the past that he was looking for, but invitingly to

Rosenior. He has only ever scored one in the shirt of Hull City. Aston

Villa were pretty impressive in the first half, but in comparison their

second-half display has been very ordinary. They still have protected

Brad Guzan very easily. It looks like they will settle for 2-0. It

could be a dangerous thing to do, as Sanchez brings down Aluko. As poor

as Hull City have been today, one goal could change all of that. Brady

has the free kick. It might have been an own goal.

Jelavic will claim it. I wonder if the final touch might have come off

Villa man. Yes, it comes off Sissoko macro. The effort from Jelavic was

on target, but there is the deflection off Sissoko macro. It is

one for the dubious goals committee, that one.

He has won the corner of Sanchez. Suddenly, anxiety. It is enveloping

Villa Park. Jelavic was telling him to leave it

alone. He claimed he could not hear him. Jelavic was poised to try and

crack it on the volley. Brady has added something since he came on.

Looking to add quality here. A good save from Guzan. He hasn't

had much to do today, the big American. Villa slow to close down

Livermore, and that was heading in. Oh, he could have killed the contest

there, Darren Bent. Westwood delaying the pass and Bent fails to

put the game to bed. He has done well, Aluko. Plenty of

power, but straight at Guzan. What a chance to go home with a point. But

not quite good enough with the finish.

How satisfied were you with today's performance? We were excellent. I

thought we fully deserved it, it could have been more. It is the

worst I can remember of being the club. It was that bad. For the

travelling supporters who witnessed it, we have to apologise because I

simply can't understand why have we have put in a performance like we

did in the first half, where there was no energy, no desire, no spirit,

we made mistake after mistake. We never laid a glove on them. Is seven

points out of nine more than you would have expected at the start of

the season? Know, if you look at the games we have had, expected to get

the wins at home, with the running after the international break, we

have to get the points now and it takes the pressure off. We will try

to cause an upset in games. And international break comes on and

your team disappears? If they keep performing like that, they will not

begin internationals. He was brutally honest. Were they good, or

bad? Villa were good, but in the first half Hull were terrible. They

did not get close at all, they did not put any pressure. Defensively

they were horrible. Here, not a bad shape. They are set up quite well.

Agbonlahor was fantastic today. You can see here, Hull, they have the

ball. The problem of coming in, they were in a defensive shape, that was

fine, when they had the ball they did this time after time. They sent

it upfront with no quality into Jelavic. Dawson makes a decision, he

will try to block the shot. McShane needs to get tighter. Look how far

he is off Agbonlahor here. He punishes him. Agbonlahor caused them

problems all afternoon. Absolutely, Curtis Davies did not know whether

to stick or twist. He kept going down the left-hand side channel and

Curtis Davies does not want West does not know what to do. It wasn't

just that. Even back in his own box, he is winning headers, showing a

real desire. He gets a bump on his head. He is pressurising Curtis

Davies again. The closing down was fantastic. They were pressing,

winning the ball back. It showed for their second goal. Agbonlahor was

involved. Weimann find some space and a really smart finish.

Agbonlahor on his day is one of the best players, he has been one of the

best at Villa. Big, strong, powerful, likes to work on the left

channel. He likes to come in on his right foot but he can also take it

round the outside to his left foot. He is quick and has power. If he

senses a weakness, he will become a defender. He did that today,

tremendous pace and power. When he is focused, he is difficult. When he

is focused, you said it. Babe bought Jack Grealish, Aston Villa, for his

first home Premier League appearance. He tweeted, what a

feeling, coming on the Holte End singing my name, dreams trimmed --

dreams come true. We are glad he enjoyed it because Hull did not half

lump him in the second half. They kicked him all over the place. Three

people got books kicking him in the first ten minutes. Outrageous, 18

years old! He must have put something on Twitter or Facebook

about Hull. There was a piece in the programme, he was a real target.

Three people were booked for kicking him. He can have a joke, but he

needs to invest in new shin pads. Proper shrimp -- proper shin pads

for Jack Grealish. Tomorrow is transferred day. We will have it

covered on the BBC website. There is a four our show tomorrow night.
