Hello and welcome to Match Of The Day 2.

We've got two games tonight, plus February's Goal of the Month,

a day out at Man City, 2 Good, 2 Bad, and all of Saturday's action.

And Mark Lawrenson and John Hartson are with us.

The first four months of the season promised much for Alan Pardew's

Writtle Palace. There was talk of a top six finish. But it has been a

winter of discontent. Since beating Stoke in December, there have been

no wins and lots of defeats. Talk has now shifted to a possible

relegation fight. As for Liverpool, the Jurgen Klopp effect has had next

results so far. But they had a convincing midweek win over

Manchester City, keeping alive faint hopes of a top four finish. Your

commentator at Selhurst Park, Steve Wilson.

Writtle Palace are the only team without a Premier League win in

2016, dropping from fifth to 15th in ten weeks. However, they have won

their last three games against Liverpool. They are without Wayne

Hennessey and Connor Wickham. McCarthy takes over in goal.

Adebayor plays up front. Joe Ledley is preferred to Jordon Mutch.

Mamadou Sakho and Alberto Moreno return for Liverpool. Toure and

Nathaniel Clyne drop to the bench, where they are joined by jungle

storage. -- where they are joined by Daniel Sturridge. As ever at

Selhurst Park, the enthusiasm and didn't buy recent results. Back to

Adam Lallana. Flanagan. Firmino is onside. McCarthy using

his feet. Forward by Joe Ledley. Adebayor. Bolasie! Very good save

from Mignolet. Really good stop by the Liverpool goalkeeper. Often

criticised. But he saved them here. Bolasie was played in by Adebayor.

Good save by Simon Mignolet. He is back on his feet, the Palace

man, and Liverpool will play on. That was on target! Nearly did

Mignolet at the near post. It has been a really bright first ten

minutes of this game. Off the woodwork from Adebayor!

Liverpool escape. Well, somehow it is still 0-0. Emmanuel Adebayor

here, so close to putting Palace in front. Reacted quickly. Quicker than

Lovren. And hit the frame of the Liverpool goal. They do not stop,

those Palace fans. Given away by Origi. Here is Zaha.

Cabaye! Side netting. Good effort, though.. It all started when I read

he gave the ball away. Fairly forgettable first half.

Liverpool had more of the ball. 63% possession, but did not have a shot

on target. Sakho got trodden on by Souare. Have a look at this.

To be taken by Cabaye off Palace start the second half on the front

foot. The shot from Souare. Deflected. Ledley! 1-0, Palace! Joe

Ledley breaks the deadlock! With his first goal of the season! Chaos from

the corner. Liverpool never got it away.

Deadlock broken. The game needed a goal and it has got one early in the

second half. James Milner has done well. Now, Lallana.

Deflected, corner. Liverpool are going to make a substitution. And it

is Jon Flanagan who is coming off for Coutinho. You do not need me to

tell you, that is not a straight swap. I just wonder if James Milner

might go to right-back. And here he is. Running into Adebayor. That is a

foul. Milner has already had a yellow card. And he is off. James

Milner is sent off. And it just got harder for Jurgen Klopp and

Liverpool. Palace's long run without a victory

looks today like it is going to become an end. -- going to be coming

to an end. Lallana! Liverpool are wondering whether that did not come

off Delaney. Andre Marriner said it came off Divock Origi. I'm not sure.

This will tell us... Yes, it came off Delaney. But a goal kick has

been given. Mistake by McCarthy! Firmino!

Equalises for Liverpool. An absolute gift from Alex McCarthy. Oh, dear!

The Palace goalkeeper, his first game since September. And he has

given Liverpool an equaliser. No danger at all. Straight to Firmino.

Straight into the back of his net. And Liverpool out of nothing have an

equaliser. Roberto Firmino has now got seven in his last eight Premier

League games, but nine have been giftwrapped like that. -- but none

of them. And Benteke is coming on before the

corner is taken. Christian Benteke, yet to score in 2016.

Benteke! Nearly scored with his first touch! Great opportunity for

Benteke. Good header by Lovren. Might be a gap here for Firmino to

exploit. Good tackle by Delaney. Moreno for Liverpool...! Off the

inside of the post! Coutinho! Well, the ten men nearly got themselves in

front. Alberto Moreno hit it beautifully. You do not get any

closer than this. Great strike. Coutinho, might be dangerous...

Benteke! Good save by McCarthy. Big applause for the Palace goalkeeper,

who redeemed himself a bit here. With ten men, Liverpool not as

dangerous now as they have at any point in this game. -- look as

dangerous. Just seconds to go. Benteke, was he caught? The flag is

up on this nearside. The linesman is flagging. He is claiming... It is a

penalty to Liverpool! In the fifth minute of added time. Delaney slides

in. Down went Benteke. Alex McCarthy here could be will turned hero.

Practically the last kick of the game. Benteke - scores! Three

points, Liverpool! Christian Benteke! What a turnaround!

It is victory for Liverpool. And Palace's dismal 2016 continues. His

knee just catches Benteke's left foot.

To lose it in the manner that we have lost it. I mean, the penalty,

OK, Delaney perhaps should not go to ground. But he has pulled out of it.

The referee sees that and the linesman decides there is enough

contact for a penalty. In the last seconds of the game, it is tough to

take. I really do not think it was a penalty. Any kind of touch, he was

going to go down, and he did. And yet he is interviewed, it is

frustrating. You have to give and take a a lot of credit because he

was tremendously cool. Yes, it was the perfect change in this moment.

He really worked hard. His first touch was a big chance after the

header of Dejan Lovren. And then he was really in the game. It was his

penalty because he made the move, and wanted to force the situation.

It was a clear penalty. Otherwise he would be in a really good position

to shoot or to play a pass. When the referee showed the penalty, I said,

it is my chance, I have to take the responsible team and try to score.

There is no hiding, it is a big mistake by Alex McCarthy for the

equaliser? Yes, he does not mean to go out and give the ball away like

that. I feel sorry for him. I thought the second was a bit harsh

as well. I don't think it is a penalty. But if you slide in like

that, it will be in the referee's mind.

In super slow motion, my defender Mike touches food, and he goes over

like he has been shot. That is what we are talking about in the last

second of the game. Are you going to give a penalty then? We will come

onto the time that the penalty was given in a moment. We have got the

super slow motion out. Was it a penalty for you, John Hartson? Yes,

I think it was a penalty. I can understand Alan Pardew saying it was

a dive. I have no time for diving in the game. You can clearly see

contact, it is very minimal. Benteke feels the contact and he does what

lots of strikers will do. He goes down. He feels that will win his

team a penalty. The lens man makes a decision for the referee. For me, no

argument, bidders contact, it must be a penalty. You can see the

linesman seeing, he tripped him. Alan Pardew, in the post-match press

conference, after he had done television, he said, if you think

the touch affects the fall and the William Lyons, you need to be

consulted. If that touch warrants a collapse like that, we need to say

come on. Jurgen Klopp said, if you run and you get this touch, you fall

down. Try it with the knee and the food. That was more than enough. It

is a penalty, there is no word on about it. He takes away his foot.

Yes, as he is in full stride. Alan Pardew had the hump because they

were leading 1-0 against ten men and the could not go on to manage the

game. Palace fans say, he hardly touched him. He touched him, it is a

penalty. How many times have we seen when players are clipped, minimal

contact, and managers will see in the dressing room, you feel

anything, go over? Some people would say it was clever, but today I

thought that was a penalty. The time is irrelevant, even though Damien

Delaney was trying to pull out, it is a relevant? You do not need to

speak about that. It is nothing. -- it is not relevant. The 90 minutes

from Liverpool, did it some how it has been under Jurgen Klopp, there

was some good stuff, but some of it was not so good? Yes, there was some

drawers. It was a mixed bag. Early on in the game. They think the ball

is going out, everybody starts. You do not stop until the whistle blows.

Adebayor is really unlucky not to score. This was one of the good

spells for Palace. The problem was when they got into the final third,

the delivery on so many different occasions from so many different

players, it was really bad, giving the ball away, unusual for them.

Divock Origi puts Palace on the attack. Yohan Cabaye nearly gets a

goal. He is unlikely. On this occasion, they give the ball away

three times in five seconds. It was nearly every single player. This is

the big break for them today. If they do not score from this

particular moment, it is different. He tucks it away nicely. Alex

McCarthy... His left foot does give way. He slips, you cannot legislate

for that. It is a mistake. It is hard to hammer your goalkeeper.

Firmino tucks it away nicely. Alex McCarthy has apologise, football is

a game of highs and lows, I am sorry to all you fans. I did not mean to

slip. It might be better not saying that. What is wrong with

apologising? It is just life. He slept. I think fans would appreciate

that. Everybody who has seen the game I accept it as a slip. Nobody

will attack him. He is expecting chocolates and flowers? He is

holding his hands up for a mistake. James Milner's red card. He was

finally today. Yes, most unusual for him. He is seven out of ten every

single week. He lost the plot little bit. That is a booking, from the

side. That is a clear booking. The next one, when you run a booking,

the experience, the clubs he has played for, you're not expecting

this. It is a lounge. He tries to win the ball, but Wilfried Zaha get

there before him. He gets the ball away. No complaints. When you're on

a yellow card, you cannot make challenges like that. In many ways,

aid change the game for Liverpool because they had to take a chance.

They put Emre Can in the middle to make a back three. They went for it.

Coutinho is a very good player, Benteke was licking lightly. The

substitutes. It was a case of trying to win the game and that made all

the difference. Great news for Liverpool fans, going forward, when

he has built his own squad, he will take chances to get back into a

game. He has always done that. He has put liquors in the back three as

well before. He gambles. -- Lucas. I do not think they are going to get

into the top four. You have got to try, even if you lose 2-0, at least

you're trying to win the game. The positives for Palace fans, they are

12 games without a victory, and that is a negative, but they have got

Yannick Bolasie bike, in tandem with Wilfried Zaha, and other players did

all right. Yes, Alan Pardew will be delighted with the performance. When

Liverpool went down to ten men, he was annoyed that Palace did not push

their advantage. They got nervous. Yes, they brought on Coutinho and

Benteke. Benteke played like Superman, like he had a point to

prove coming from the bench. I do not think they manage the game well,

Crystal Palace. 12 games without a victory. At 1-0, against ten men,

the very least you do is get through and win 1-0. I will turn again as if

we're going to move on. Let's take a look at the ten

contenders for February's Goal He did not think twice, arrowed into

the top corner, brilliant goal. All of a sudden, all over the top,

looking for Jamie Vardy. He goes for it. What a screamer. What a goal.

Unbelievable. He was aware of wind -- he was aware

of where Wayne Rooney was. Across to Martial. Lots of space. What about

this? Finished brilliantly by Anthony Marshall. -- Martial. Riyad

Mahrez, wonderful skill, what a goal. What a way to end seven games

without a goal for the Algerian international. Borthwick-Jackson,

Wayne Rooney, Lingard. What a finish, Jesse Lingard with his

second goal in one week. That is a good drive. It is a brilliant

start for Stoke City. Absolutely slammed home by Giannelli Imbula.

His first goal in English football. On the left-hand side is Daniels. In

comes the cross. What a goal. It was met by Matt Ritchie. This could turn

out to be a terrific encounter. Antonio loses out. Robbie Brady,

what a goal. Superbly placed by Robbie Brady. It is a super finish.

Dimitri Payet. So much room. This is Mark Noble. 2-2. That was so easy

for West Ham. Into worse Berahino. Brilliant. --

towards Berahino. They rise for Saido Berahino because that is a

cracking goal. Jordon Mutch with the free kick. An

important one to win. Connor Wickham, brilliant. It is a cracking

second of the day for him. He had not scored all season, he now has

that usually delivers. West Bromwich Albion against

Manchester United at the Hawthorns comes with a guarantee of goals. The

teams have shared 20 between them in the last four seasons. Here they

are. Wayne Rooney. Shane Long has equalised. It is in. Jonas Olsson.

It is three. Robin van Persie. It has gone in. Incredible scenes at

the Hawthorns. 5-5. Wayne Rooney, 2-0 United. Danny Welbeck finishes

brilliantly. Sessegnon. Fellaini. It is 2-2. Blame Mark Chapman if this

turns out to be adult game. It is 95 years since these two last shared a

goalless draw in the league. West Bromwich Albion are unchanged.

Surprising when the general consensus was that Yacob was booked

in midweek, which would have meant a two match suspension. It was Chester

that was shown the yellow card. Manchester United make four changes

in pursuit of the top four finish. They welcome back diamine, Smalling,

Carrick and Lingard. -- Darmian. United's record at the stadium is

the best of its kind in Premier League history. They have won seven

and run two of their previous nine visits. Martial wriggles away. In

the end, it was straight at Ben Foster. It was a sharp turn by

Martial. Well positioned, the goalkeeper. Louis van Gaal has used

33 different players, more than any other team in the top flight this

season. Rondon with the cross. Dawson was

up. The flight had stayed down. Dawson headed wide. He is a real

threat in the air, but by his standards, he would have wanted to

hit the target. A free kick for West Bromwich Albion. Rondon clearly

being held by Michael Carrick. Spotted by referee Mike Dean.

Gardner with the free kick. McAuley at the back post, just wide. The

flag was up, it would not have counted. It was tight. It was a

great run at the far post by McAuley. Interesting to get the

opinion of Tony Pulis had that gone in and then been ruled out. It was a

very tight call by the referee on this site, Simon Long. A free kick

to West Brom, Fletcher to take. Juan Mata showing the yellow card,

deliberately blocking the free kick from Darren Fletcher. Despite his

critics, West Bromwich Albion are six points better off than at the

same stage last season. They are virtually safe. The same cannot be

said this time last year. He has run into a cul-de-sac. He is

helped out by Fletcher, who is caught. Mata has been booked. There

is the second yellow card, and the red card. Manchester United are down

to ten men. It was a deliberate trip from Juan Mata, taking out Darren

Fletcher. He will regret to the silly first yellow card. But when he

is on that yellow card, he should have been more careful. He has only

got himself to blame. Juan Mata can have no complaints.

Header by Blind. Forward by Chester. Dawson! Oh! De Gea was beaten.

Fantastic, instinctive shot from Dawson. And de Gea was a relieved

man to see it drop wide. Sir Alex Ferguson back at the scene of his

final game as Manchester United manager.

Sessegnon. De Gea makes the save. Once again, Berahino looking to link

up with Sessegnon. Manchester United are quite happy to slow the pace of

the game down, with ten men. Cleared by McAuley. Gardner, no foul.

Martial, again, nobody to aim for in the penalty area. He goes alone.

Rashford! Well, he has shown already in the embryonic stages of his

Manchester United career that he is not afraid to shoot. A watching

brief now for Juan Mata. I am sure questions will be asked about that

sending-off. Some may feel there might not have been much contact

with the second incident. Lingard goes for goal, and brushes

the roof of the net! Lingard scored his first goal for Manchester United

against West Bromwich Albion back in November. And he only had one thing

on his mind here. Louis van Gaal, who conceded defeat in the race for

the top four just three weeks ago, but now it is very much back on.

In from Pocognoli. Rondon! He has been a handful throughout. And he

puts West Brom ahead. Rondon, with his eighth goal of the season. It

was Pocognoli who provided the width. Wonderful first touch by

Rondon. And then dispatched into the bottom corner.

De Gea could do nothing about it. Bearing in mind that they have not

beaten Manchester United since Cyrille Regis and Steve McKenzie

were on target, this will be richly celebrated here in the Black

Country. This might be the last bit of

action. Pocognoli heads it back to a relieved Ben Foster. The four

minutes are up. And West Brom can celebrate their first league victory

over Manchester United at The Hawthorns since 1984. The talking

point will be the sending-off of Juan Mata after 26 minutes. Tony, it

was a deserved victory? Yes, the sending-off obviously changes the

game. I have not seen it back yet but from my stance earlier on I

thought it was very harsh. But the lads have said that he has caught

Darren, so the referee has deemed it to be a second yellow card. When you

send off a player like Mata, I have asked him, is it your first red

card? It is his first. I believed that already before I put the

question. It was a rhetorical question, I think. So, when you do

that within three minutes, or five minutes, I don't know, you give the

first, and you give the second within five minutes, OK, you can do

it, probably, according to the rules, but I think also the person

who is doing that. Are you unhappy with his lack of discipline, two

yellow cards within three minutes? Yes, you can say that. As a manager,

you have to say that also, because you know that you have your first

yellow card. I think it was a stupid yellow card. But then you have to

take into account that the referee can whistle also easily the second

yellow card. So you have to be aware of that. But a referee has to decide

within one second. But when you know the player Mata... Points are

crucial at any stage. But on the high-end of the little run we had

been on, we wanted to carry it on. So that is a blow for us. But we

will just have to get back to winning ways in the cup. It is

special because it takes us to 39 points. I look to win every game, I

believe we can win every game I have never gone into a game believing we

cannot win it, not once in my career. Today has been great for us.

But I hope they go on and achieve great success as well. Sorry, West

Brom fans, I should have said next to the West Midlands, or next to the

Black Country, rather than next to Birmingham! Moving onto van Gaal,

surely it is irrelevant, the character of a player, whether they

have hurt players before or not. Two yellow cards is two yellow cards.

Exactly. What a contrast in manager interviews. Tony Pulis, very honest.

The other one, van Gaal, talking incomplete riddles. He says a lot

without actually saying anything. And the character of the player, if

you make two bookable challenge is, it does not matter if you are the

nicest player in the world, you have got to act on every challenge

accordingly. And that is what the referee has done. This one here,

Mata, it is a booking. He takes one for the team, he is stopping

Fletcher starting an attack off for West Brom. And this is a yellow card

as well. It is not nasty, but he catches him. It is two yellow cards!

Nothing to do with Mata's character, we know that! It is almost like

saying, not the Mata but somebody like Joey Barton, all day long. It

is complete tosh. And by the way think it is a deflection from the

way they played on the day. And he does it a lot when they get beat -

it is always something else which happened which does not relate to

him. And if he had not given the second yellow, we would have been

discussing why he was inconsistent in the same way we have spoken about

Michael Oliver from the north London derby with Eric Dier. You can see

Mike Dean's face and he says, it is a foul, it is a yellow card. He was

a bit reluctant but it is the law. Rondon was excellent today. More

sprints than any other player on the pitch. And he and Chris Smalling

were the two fastest players on the pitch. That really surprised me,

because he is a big old boy. You could see it in their battles. The

great thing, he has started to find some form. But the great thing for

the way West Brom play is, he gets you up the pitch all the time. He is

as strong as an ox. It is great to see as well, Lawro, two big lads

going at it hammer and tongs, but in the right manner. Fans love seeing

it full stop this was Wednesday night, sorry, Tuesday, against

Morgan. Just great, old-fashioned football. I liked this one, in terms

of strength. Robert Huth, one of the strongest in the Premier League, and

what a finish. You like that because you see a bit of yourself in him.

Well, you know, I was not going to say that! It is great strength, good

finish. It alleviates pressure on the West Brom defence as well. Not

only that, they have got Sessegnon and Berahino, and suddenly, they

have got that end of the team right. They will always get the other end

right because it is Tony Pulis. Also, 61 touches today, the second

most for any striker this weekend behind Sergio Aguero. What does that

mean, though? It means he had a lot of touches. It does not tell you if

they were good or bad. Point taken! Analyse the West Brom goal. Dear,

oh, dear! It is a really good goal for West Brom, no doubt about it.

But for Manchester United, Blind has Rondon there. We have circled them.

There is Smalling, such an improved player, but why he has come out

here, I have no idea. Blind is tight on Rondon, no doubt. But look at

Smalling - he is not even facing the ball. He is looking for his man, so

how can he do anything? Rate ball in, by the way. But you do not get

that time and space in the penalty area! When it comes into you with

pace, sometimes it is easier to control. Touch, swivels, great

finish. 39 points. They are fine, aren't they? Yes, absolutely. No

doubt about it. England's women are taking

on Germany in the US right And you can see the second half

live on BBC one next. Also on the Red Button,

on Tuesday night, there will be highlights of Arsenal's FA Cup

replay at Hull City. And 5 Live have commentary

of Chelsea's Champions League last 16 encounter with Paris Saint

Germain on Wednesday night. Now for the first part of Saturday's

action featuring the sides Coquelin has lost it, and then he

gets his hands on the ball. The referee now brings it act to give

the free kick for handball. Yellow card for Coquelin as well. He took

the law, and the ball, into his own hands. Welbeck tees up Lorraine,

maybe... What a finish that is! Brilliant goal from Aaron Ramsey. So

Coquelin is on a booking... Yes, the yellow card is out. And so is the

red. Arsenal might have a goal advantage, but with a long time to

go in the game, Spurs have a man advantage. Eriksen delivers. Lamela!

Over the line from Alderweireld! Spurs are level. And going for

Arsenal. Harry Kane! What a goal! That is an

incredible strike by Harry Kane! Total Tottenham turnaround! Olivier

Giroud wriggling past the challenge of Eric Dier. Arsenal making the

point that Eric Dier, not so long ago, got a yellow card. They are

swarming around the referee, who I don't think is going to issue

another one. You wonder if he had not already had a yellow, might he

have got one there? I think he might have done.

Sanchez levels. Another goal that is superbly taken. 2-2.

Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey running through, in on goal. What a good

challenge. It was very nearly an Aaron Ramsey winner.

Jamie Vardy has got the better of his man. Riyad Mahrez is onside.

Jamie Vardy cannot finish. Mahrez and Vardy, very much Leicester's

eight team this season. They could not put them in front.

That is a decent ball. The header has put it into trouble. Riyad

Mahrez scorers. Fantastic Mr Fox. Riyad Mahrez, yet again, 16 goals

for the season. Leicester City, another hurdle negotiated.

Bryan Oviedo. He has got goal side of Oxford. Lukaku scorers. It is 1-0

Everton. Mirallas. Terrific. He was clipped. Actually, the referee says

that is a dive. He gets a yellow card. Lukaku, two away to the right

side but the pass was bad. It is a late challenge by Kevin Mirallas. He

is on a yellow card for simulation earlier. It did look like a bookable

offence. He is gone. Everton are down to ten.

Brilliant from Everton. What a goal that is. Outstanding from Everton. A

brilliant combination, Lukaku and Aaron Lennon. Everton have got four

forward in this attack. Besic. He was tripped on the edge. Penalty. We

have had everything. It is saved. It is saved. Adrian is the hero.

Ham have been seeking. Michail Antonio with the header. West Ham

have reduced the deficit. Andy Carroll goes towards it, and

Kevin Cummins has spent the last 40 years photographing some of the most

iconic names in music, but his first love lies

in the blue half of Manchester. I really miss a game. I have not

missed a game this season, home or away. I always used to try and get

Manchester City colours onto the cover of the NME whenever I had the

opportunity. I am Kevin Cummins, photographer and Manchester City

fan. I started supporting City because my grandparents lived near a

main road. The first game I remember going to was in August 1861, when we

played Leicester and beat them 3-0. -- 19 61. Some good players came

along and suddenly we were the best team in the world. I think that Tim

is quite underrated. That team from 1967, through to 1970, it was

marvellous to watch. We thought it would be like that forever, that we

were always going to win trophies. I did a shot of the Stone Roses and I

painted them like John Squire painting. I used a base colour of

sky blue and white, because three of them are United fans, but I was not

going to let them dictate the colour of the picture. When City were going

to leave Maine Road in 2003, I approached the club with the idea of

doing a book for the final season at Maine Road. I thought I was the

perfect person to do it. I did not want anyone else to do it. I stopped

working with new for a year, and started working with City. -- with

musicians. Kevin Keegan was one of the nicest men I have ever met in my

life, he was fantastic. I do not really miss Maine Road. People will

slaughter me for saying that, but City had to compete by becoming a

bigger club, but retaining the old values. They still feel like a

Manchester club. Nobody gets on stage if they have not got an eagle.

Rock stars are great to photograph, but footballers are different. They

have changed over the years because they are more self-aware, and in a

way they are more like rock stars. When Oasis came along, it was a

dream for me. I had all these shots of them wearing Man City shirts. My

editor refused to use them, he said, I do not want this paper to be

associated with losers. He is not laughing now. Sergio Aguero, and the

pull-back was great for a David Silva. He was trying to set up Yaya

Toure. It has taken them less than three minutes. Three minutes in the
