Let me tell you a story about Newcastle and Sunderland. Good

fences make good neighbours, a decade defining game which faces old

and new. Some with a .1, survival. Melancholy in Manchester, the

leaders are almost out of sight, no time to bully -- to blink. Tottenham

coming of age and learning new tricks but they wear, the underdogs

bite. For the Saints, a crusade to Europe is within reach but Jurgen

Klopp and Liverpool are at last on the same page. Four great matches,

all with their own stories, twists and turns. Reading between the

lines, Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy. All of Saturday's action to

come but first up, Southampton against Liverpool.

Southampton finished seventh in the Premier League last season,

Liverpool six, if they are to improve on that, victory today is

vital. Jose Fonte returns, the only change from their victory over Stoke

where Graziano Pelle scored both goals, Victor Wanyama is on the

bench after completing a five match suspension. Jon Flanagan Captains

Liverpool for the first time, Jo Allen starts in midfield. Liverpool

are unbeaten in their last eight matches in all competitions up

against a Southampton side who have lost just one of their last six at

Saint Mary. Flanagan steps away from Davis. Southampton might be away

here, Pele making the run here. He goes down in the penalty area, Roger

East says no spot kick. The challenge came in from a Dejan

Lovren. Watch the left arm of the Liverpool defender. The referee says

no spot kick and it remains 0-0. No way through for Martina and

Southampton missing their right back at the moment. Coutinho, what a

strike from Philippe Coutinho. He has done it again, a moment of magic

at Trafford on Thursday and another wonderful girl. Southampton always

struggling in the right back position here. They're still looked

to be not much on their own until the shot and suddenly it was beyond

Forster. Just creeping inside the post and Philippe Coutinho gets his

ninth goal of the season. What a goal that was. A decent week so far

for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp. Van Dijk with a gap in front of him.

Goes towards Tadic. Cannot get the cross away, Nathaniel Clyne with the

clearance. Sturridge making a run through the middle. Trying to set up

Sturridge, onto the left foot and in and Liverpool double their lead.

Daniel Sturridge got a couple in Liverpool's 6-1 victory here in

December and Liverpool have started superbly. There was suddenly a gap.

Sturridge exploit it to the maximum. Fraser Forster with so many clean

sheets of late but beaten for a second time after a cynical finish

from Sturridge. Roy Hodgson will be delighted to see Daniel Sturridge in

prolific goal-scoring form. Liverpool can stream forward again,

in towards Joe Allen, bearing down on car and forced up with the save

only as far as Sturridge and out for a throw in on the far side. Fraser

Forster with an outstanding stop to prevent Liverpool scoring a third.

Southampton always chasing this. Ronald Koeman said he wanted his

players to bury mind the heavy defeat to Liverpool in the League

Cup and go for revenge, it has not turned out that way so far. Lallana

with three around him but manages to find Flanagan. He won't find anyone

with a Liverpool shirt but wins a corner. Martina puts it behind.

Sadio Mane available after his red card at Stoke last week was

rescinded. Towards station and Lovren are only as far as Joe Allen

and he has scored a third for Liverpool. Fraser Forster

complaining there was a foul in front of him. And indeed the flag is

up on the near side and the goal will not count. As soon as the ball

hit the back of the net, Fraser Forster was out to complain at the

officials. Offside against Sakho and it remains too- zero.

Lovely ball through, he was being held by Martin Skrtel, a Southampton

penalty and a yellow card for the Liverpool substitute. He has only

been on since half-time and already come up Martin Skrtel has given away

a penalty and been booked. Southampton felt they should have

had a penalty in the early minutes of the first half. They have got one

early in the second. A huge chance for Southampton to get back in the

game but Mane's penalty has been saved by Simon Mignolet, the

Liverpool goalkeeper who has had little to do this afternoon goes the

right way. Liverpool maintained their 2-0 advantage. Contrast in

reactions in the technical areas. Southampton supporters may feel this

is not going to be their day now. Origi dispossessed by Wanyama.

Davis, a Southampton free kick. Much better from Southampton in the

second half. Davis, towards van Dijk and across the face of goal and a

Southampton could not apply a finishing touch. Van Dijk winning

the header, Sadio Mane stretching but never going to get there. Pelle

in towards Mane, Sadio Mane gets away from Sakho and Southampton are

back in it. Sadio Mane, who saw his penalty saved early in the second

half makes Martial ends with a goal to half the deficit. Liverpool

needlessly conceding possession. Mane with the shot from a tight

angle, had to play it across goal and Southampton are right back in

this match. Davis, robbed by Lallana, he has

Benteke to his right. Towards Benteke, Christian Benteke and it is

wide. Benteke clearly onside. Two against two, Forster narrowing the

options but wide of the post. What a chance for Liverpool. Might

Liverpool come to regret that Miss Y Christian Benteke? Pelle drops for

Davis, Pelle, Graziano Pelle, outstanding. From 2-0 down,

Southampton are back level at 2-2 and of their pressure in this second

half has paid dividends. He broke his goal drought with both of them

at Stoke last weekend and now, Graziano Pelle has three goals in

his last two appearances. What a finish that is. Beyond Mignolet. And

now, Southampton may feel they can go on and win this.

High but not very far. Martin Skrtel did not get much on it. Through two

Mane, Sadio Mane, what a turnaround. Any memories of that penalty that

was saved have been banished as Ronald Koeman trots down the

touchline to join in the celebrations. Simply astonishing.

Liverpool were so much in charge of this match in the first half but

they have fallen apart in the second period. Mignolet's clearance had

plenty of height but no distance away from the Liverpool goal. Sadio

Mane with a fine finish. It takes him to nine on the season. It may

take Southampton to three points. That looked so improbable earlier

today, incredible. The Liverpool supporters have been silenced. What

a turnaround. His team were so much in charge of this match. Southampton

just need to get this ball away from their own penalty area and keep it

away from there. A hugely improbable result at half-time when Liverpool

were 2-0 ahead and in charge, comfortably in charge. Southampton

have turned it around and a huge victory for Southampton in the race

for European qualification. Southampton 3-2 Liverpool. We came

back with the right mentality, in the first half, the guys did not

have any energy but we had an amazing comeback, everyone did an

amazing job. First half we were brilliant, played really good

football and created more problems than I could imagine but we could

not close the game at the first half and have two admit the game can

change in the second half. That is how football is. It was the first

time I run because I have my Achilles operation and it was so

emotional, the game today, coming back after 2-0 down, difficult

moments after half-time. Very proud of the players and what we showed

today, 3-2 against Liverpool is great for everybody. Big moments

throughout the game, a big moment when ris Jim Benteke went through,

you had strong words with him in the end? Of course not, sometimes we

have to talk to players, that is my job and if they are going off to the

national team, and I card make phone calls all the time so I had a few

words, it is OK. Nothing else. Liverpool set off like a train, and

Jurgen Klopp called the first half perfect. There was some sublime

football, but Southampton helped them a lot, let's just say that.

This was the right back in the middle of the pitch. Vacate the

right back area. The report are good at counterattack and we have seen it

away from home any times. Coutinho is on fire at the moment. The keeper

should get it from that far out. It was a poor goal. This one,

Southampton played the first half like a cup tie. They have got eight

men, nearly, in the final third of the pitch. One pass, and you have

two versus two. You have pace and skill. At this point, it looked like

the score could be anything. Southampton were committing too many

men forward. As soon as there is a turnover, it is two versus two

again. And it wasn't as if there was any need for it. But it is terrific

football. How Joe Allen misses, I do not know, because that would have

been game over. Sloppy pass again. Here are your two full-backs. Look

how high up the pitch they are. Three versus two. Another poor

touch. This time, it is storage. They were wasteful. They were, but

sometimes you have to give the manager credit. He made two

substitutions. Wanyama did well when he came on, and Mane took the game

to Liverpool and got them on the back foot. He played with a point to

prove. He doesn't look the happiest man in the world coming on to stop

and he didn't even in the end. He missed a penalty early on. Terrific

save Ron Mignolet. But it spurred him on and he kept going. He was a

threat. He tried to make things happen. But when he did get his

chances, his first goal was a superb finish on his so-called weaker foot.

Liverpool couldn't handle him. It was strange how Liverpool's

confidence was drained by Southampton's performance in the

second half. He popped up all over the place. He didn't just stay on

the right. And he kept going right to the end. There was some poor

defending by Liverpool. I don't know why he looked so bemused and

disappointed, because it was a terrific performance from him to

stop on the two sets of clips of the interesting thing is that there were

less bodies flying forward to Southampton when you are showing

them Mane's stuff, so Wanyama was more disciplined. They all were. The

way they played in the first half was like a Sunday league game. But

there are some clubs criticising their managers for doing the same

things. Koeman tries different things. He has switched formations

this season. He is a brave manager, would you say? Well, I would not

call that brave. He had to do something. What was happening in the

first half was not acceptable. That is what substitutes for, you want to

make a difference. And the two guys he brought on made a huge

difference. Liverpool have dropped from winning positions by 15 points

this season, 11 of those under Jurgen Klopp. What does that tell

you? It tells me that they are playing the first half of games with

a high intensity that the players cannot maintain over 90 minutes. It

is a very difficult way to play football for a full game. Would a

full pre-season for him help? It would. At the moment, they are very

Jekyll and Hyde in their performance. He did seem to admonish

Christian Benteke at the end for this miss. He did. It is a very good

opportunity to go 3-1 up. It is a decent first touch, but just

off-balance, and he scuffs it. He is getting all excited and thinks that

is going into. I don't think he fancies him. I understand that he

didn't sign him, but I would not take too kindly if I was a player

and worth to come on the beach in front of 32,000 people and let his

feelings be known. Tell him off, but do it in the dressing room, not in

front of the fans. I couldn't agree more. Sometimes, he is great, Jurgen

Klopp. He has been a breath of fresh air, but sometimes he is overly

animated on the touchline. I agree, if you are going to tell someone

off, do it inside. Did that ever happened to you? Not on the pitch,

plenty of times in the dressing room. And I know what your response

might have been! After Leicester's win over Crystal

Palace, three points were a must for Tottenham as they welcomed

Bournemouth and Simon Brotherton to White Hart Lane.

It is Tottenham's turn to play Sunday catch up once again as they

look to close the gap at the top to five points. Bournemouth were beaten

5-1 when they met earlier this season, but they are a different

proposition now. Only the top two have won more points since the start

of December. The team for Tottenham is straightforward. It is the same

starting XI as Aston Villa last week. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick

at Bournemouth earlier in the season in the 5-1 win. Bournemouth have won

their last three games and make one change today.

The margin for error gets smaller with every passing week for

Tottenham and everybody else, as they try to hang on to Leicester's

coat-tails. Tottenham get us under way today.

Bournemouth travelling to White Hart Lane in fine fettle, winning the

last three Premier League matches they played, including 3-2 against

Swansea City last weekend. They have won eight of the last extreme, and

just four defeats in the last 18 matches. Tottenham looking to start

early here, incredible! Tottenham ahead in the first minute of the

game. Walker's shot, Kane moved in. Bournemouth scored after 39 seconds

in the reverse fixture through Matt Ritchie, and Tottenham have beaten

it this time. 44 seconds, the time of the goal. Did Kane get a touch

here? He is onside as the ball comes in, and Harry Kane gets the final

touch. Tottenham Hotspur race into an early lead. Kane, who scored a

hat-trick in the first game, scores at the start of this one. Mixed bag

for Tottenham in their last three league games. A whim, a defeat and a

draw. They need the three points today, which would reduce that

deficit down to five points. There is a confident swagger about Spurs

here. What about that for a finish from Harry Kane! Super play from

Tottenham. Two up inside a quarter of an hour. And Kane now has five

goals this season against Bournemouth. Perfectly weighted by

Dele Alli. You knew what the probable outcome was as soon as

Harry Kane got to the ball on the edge of the penalty area.

Bournemouth are already in real trouble at White Hart Lane is

Tottenham make a superb start to the match. There has been much to admire

about Tottenham's play so far, and we have seen nothing from

Bournemouth. Tottenham looking for what would be a 17th win of the

season. The flag stays down here. It is

Eriksen! And Bournemouth's defenders are all looking at each other.

Quizzical looks, arms out wide, shoulders shrugging. There is

clearly a debate going on among the Bournemouth team, because they are

struggling to deal with Tottenham here.

And Alli can't reach it. Scrambled away by Bournemouth. Lovely piece of

improvisation. Lamela could not get on the end of it. You would think he

would look happier than he does at the moment. The flag has gone up,

doesn't count. A touch from Harry Kane on the way in. The flag was

quickly raised, long before the ball hit the back of the net. Let's have

a look again. Kane, just offside. We have not seen much of Max Gradel

thus far. The ref just had a look to see if

there was a major advantage, but not the case, so Bournemouth will have

the opportunity to put the ball into the Tottenham penalty area here.

Steve Cook has chipped in with two goals in the last really games. He

was unable to direct the header goalwards. Oh, that was just out of

reach. Very nearly three, with half-time on the horizon. Sloppy

play from Bournemouth, and it was almost punished as Eriksen ran in

unmarked into the penalty area. Appeals to the referee, and gets the

free kick. Tried to break free from the close attentions of Danny Rose.

It will be a corner. Bournemouth are looking to make a bright start to

this second half. It is with Kyle Walker... Well, in

the first minute of the match, it was Walker's shot that was just

turned in by Kane. And he almost returned the favour by setting up

his team-mate. An easy goal! Tap into Christian

Eriksen. 3-0, Tottenham, in the second minute of the second half.

And it is the easiest finish that Eriksen will have all Christian

season, Lamela there at the start, Kane in space, quick to shoot. And

it couldn't have fallen any more invitingly for Christian Eriksen

than it did. Tottenham can now set the cruise control setting for the

remainder of the game. Bournemouth have been beaten only four times on

the road before today. They have a solid record on their travels.

Patient build-up here. Eriksen with a delightful touch, brilliant

build-up, Dele Alli unable to add the finishing touch. What a superb

goal that would have been. A short pass into Eriksen, clear of the

defence and Dele Alli just wide of the bowl with the shot. Tom Carroll,

plenty of White shirts forward here, Spurs looking for that fourth. Ryan

Mason making the run away from the defence. A vital interception and

Eriksen blasts it at the goal again as Francis picks self up and jobs

away from the goal line, great running by Mason to get it in

towards Kane and Tottenham Hotspur in control from start to finish will

win for the 17th time this season and close the gap to five points

again on Leicester. In England we describe that as a good day at the

office? It was, Germany was a bad day at the office but today, with

the first action we scored and then we managed the game, very happy and

pleased with the performance. A really bad day for us, worst

possible start, we were slow out of the traps, not ourselves, in

possession, out of possession. They are a very good team, the best team

we have played in the two games this season. There is a lot we can take

from them, they're pressing and their quality on the ball and how

they go about their business. Not a heavy touch on the first one. No,

but they all count, Walker with a perfect ball and I got a touch on

it. Lovely pass from Dele Alli for the second? You have seen it all

season, he is on the half term and if you make the run and you have

midfielders like that, they put in the ball and he put it on a plate

and I was able to finish. You get to this stage of the season and you

look for nerves and there were none from Spurs today. Not at all and

they had to win, considering what Leicester did yesterday. They put

the pressure right on them. I am reluctant to criticise Bournemouth

but they have done their job this season and they are safe in the

Premier League but they were on holiday today, their season was over

today. Having said that, Spurs are a very good team, scoring more goals

than anyone else in the league, best events in the league and after 44

seconds, they meant business. Not for the first time we will look at

Dele Alli and Harry Kane and you have thrown in Kyle Walker for some

variation. It won't be the last time either, they have such a good

understanding. They seem to know each other's game on the pitch but

they are mates off the pitch as well. 40 seconds, Kyle Walker down

the right-hand side, Alli and Kane circles in the middle, too much

space but a brilliant ball in, a superb run from Harry Kane. A little

bit of discussion as to whether he got a touch but he did. He got a

start on it. It was a massive argument we had. A good finish and a

good start. Harry Kane moves into that position for two reasons, to

get in the box and create space for Dele Alli to run into. It does not

work on this occasion but this is absolutely brilliant, almost

telepathic. Too much time again for Dele Alli, touch of the left foot

and the weight of the pass with the right foot but watch Harry Kane when

Dele Alli touches the ball, already on his bike, he knows what he is

doing and he knows where he will put it. Too good for the defender and a

superb finish. Again, linkup play, the ball falls to Alli, a little

ball into Harry Kane again and pulls out wide and a brilliant ball across

and unlucky with Eriksen. Walker also played his part, this was in

the second half. He knows Harry Kane will win that, he trusts him and

they trust each other and know each other's game. If he doesn't win

that, he is in trouble because he has left space or hide him but he

knows Harry Kane will win it. It is unlucky. Not only those three but

Eric Dier and Danny Rose as well. It is looking really good for England

with those guys coming through. Coming back to England, how many

times would you say in your career that you had a relationship like

Kane and Alli, I am just interested, you said it is almost telepathic. I

can give an example with Teddy Sheringham. We did not train a lot

together, every six or seven weeks but I knew his game and he knew

mine. It is almost telepathic, you build up a relationship on the pitch

and no doubt that Alli and Kane have got that. It is really good. I have

a good relationship with Michael at Liverpool for a brief period and

Darren Bent at Charlton, you get to know someone and they feed off you

and you build a relationship. It is difficult for defenders to pick up.

When Dele Alli gets the ball in the middle of the park, Kane as Origi

gone because he knows it inside out. That is the advantage, Leicester

City and top and Leicester sitting second, we could both pick their

11th, harmony other teams could you say that about? You mentioned

England, with everybody fit, would you start those two, Alli just

behind Kane. Yellow macro 100% and Eric Dier, the full-backs are up for

discussion because there are options. But there is no doubt, Eric

Dier sitting in front and Dele Alli just in the hind Harry Kane. Harry

Kane is on fire this season, he should be automatic in the team now.

I completely agree with Harry Kane and ability, Dele Alli, my only

concern with him is that there are some games where the fire comes in a

bit and he goes into rash tackles, at international level, that could

be a problem, in terms of ability, I agree. A lot of youngsters have

that. But not many know who they are. Just touched the stud. The

argument went on for about two hours. The Manchester derby to come

after we go to the north-east. How do you ensure a win in the Tyne

Wear derby, Sunderland think they have the right prescription, each of

their last four managerial appointments have come one game

before the Derby, on each occasion, the new boss has lost their first

game before going on to beat their local rivals. Newcastle's response,

a dose of the same medicine. Enter Rafael Benitez, defeat against

Leicester in his opening game will be followed, they hope, by a first

derby win in eight attempts. For Rafa Benitez's first-time game, a

Newcastle team with two changes. Andros Townsend back into start.

Dave and Taylor and Vurnon Anita drop to the bench. Jonjo Shelvey

making his first start in a time and we're derby as is Townsend. The one

change from these draw against Southampton scenes and Deutsche make

way for Jermain Defoe for Sunderland. The history between

those two is well-known, there seems to be a bit more warmth in that

greeting than there has been before. Rafael Benitez has reignited

Newcastle passions. And looking for Mitrovic, a golden chance. He got

aired of Kone, he had the chance to put Newcastle into the lead. One of

the few grounds in the country where you chance "Stand up if you hate

Sunderland." And the people in the directors box stand up to.

Sunderland get this free kick, Jack Colback's revenge. He has been the

king of set pieces since signing. Newcastle could do with him in their

side, Chris Waddle, Sunderland could do with him, he played for both.

Great ball in from Khazri, tipped over the top by Elliott. Jack

Rodwell rose to meet it and met it well. Just for a moment it looked

like it was over Elliott and under the bar. There will be concerns from

Rafael Benitez about these Sunderland set pieces and how his

side are defending them. Pulled back for Defoe and the

ripples the side of the net. A cheer from the Newcastle fans in response

to stifled cheers from the away end. Anguish for Sam Allardyce. Townsend,

there is Perez. He was brought down and it is a Newcastle free kick.

This time last year, John Carver was the Newcastle manager, alongside him

is Ryan Taylor, scorer of Newcastle's last derby matchwinner.

It looks like Jonjo Shelvey and it is. Did not quite work out the

angles right but he was close. Took it so quickly, he caught a lot of

people in the stadium out. Borini, just got caught on his heels, did

not come to him when he wanted it to. Green light for go and then he

stopped. Khazri tries something different, Renee, only up in the air

from Elliott and Defoe, and it is in, Sunderland score through Jermain

Defoe. Sprinting away towards the visiting fans, another set piece

that Newcastle struggle with. Brilliant strike by Porrini, looking

at the Newcastle defenders, standing off, nobody got close enough to

Defoe who waited for the ball to land before hitting, stand and watch

in these games at your peril, Defoe not standing around and Sam

Allardyce's Sunderland have the lead on Derby Day. Rafael Benitez is

becoming all too aware of the size of the task he has inherited here.

Could it be seven derby wins in a row, they are on their way,

Sunderland. Mitrovic, they could do with Mitrovic in the middle, he will

go there now for the Newcastle corner. Townsend to take it. Vito

Mannone ever getting there, cleared off the line. The technology these

days tells us it didn't cross the line. Let us see how close Newcastle

came. A good delivery by Townsend, not sure where Vito Mannone was

going. It's never actually got onto the line, never mind over it. The

away side has never lost when scoring first in the Tyne Wear

derby in the Premier League era. Now, a wonderful position,. Khazri

chased by Townsend, Kerch off, comes to Khazri. Could not stop him, what

a save that is by Elliott. Blasted by Patrick van Aanholt, a huge hand

from the Newcastle keeper. He saw the loose ball, seized his chance

and a great save, one of Sunderland's finest ever

goalkeepers, the finest, Jim Montgomery, approves, even though it

stopped his team going 2-0 up. 1973 and all that. Odd looking throw and

it is a foul throw. You should never see that in the Premier League.

And again, the chip, Mitrovic goes for it and Mitrovic levels it.

Newcastle United are back in business, they have planned the

equaliser for a while and it is Mitrovic who has got it. Celebration

with a supporter was unorthodox. Don't think they have worked that

one out but that is great work by Wine album, he is Newcastle's top

scorer this season with nine but that is a mighty big assist,

creating goal number six for Mitrovic. He is going to get a

yellow card for taking his shirt off in celebration but he would do it

time and time again given the importance of that goal. It has been

coming. That is the section of the ground to look on in stunned silence

now. Freedom of the right wing. Good ball in from Anita, Mitrovic

charging onto it, he is hurt as he lands and the Sunderland players are

calling for attention immediately for Alexander Mitrovic. It looks as

though he is absolutely spark though. Straightaway. They going to

finish the game with ten players, Newcastle because Mitrovic will have

to leave the field, he was concussed there and could be suffering still.

Having to be calmed down, already the Newcastle hero today, new ones

to go on and win the game. Benitez having to hold him back on taking

the field. Rob Elliott is alive to the

situation. Now we have got bumping and barging going on all over.

Honours even at St James' Park. There is applause all round, but it

is an unsatisfying results when you take into account the figures for

both these clubs. One point it is not enough for either side to hold

themselves out of the bottom three. They will continue to fight each

other all the way to the end of the season to see who, if either, can

stay in the Premier League. In the end, maybe the draw is fair enough.

But I will take the positives. There are a lot of positives in a

difficult situation. When I was sitting over Christmas and new year,

I was totally dejected and miserable watching the team getting beat so

easy, particularly away from home. I thought, come on, lads. How am I

going to get this right? Obviously, we had a lot of hard work from

everybody, particularly the new players. I think we have become a

good side now. But we have not been able to turn good performances into

victories. That is the problem for us now. With eight games to go, we

have to find four wins. The fans want to see players that fight for

the shirt and for the badge. The quality was there, but the fans

wanted to see players fight until the 95th minute and never give up.

We showed that today. Hopefully now, the fans will get behind us and we

can grow in confidence. These are the big games where it counts. It

would have been nice if we got all three points, because we need them

and time is running out. Do you have the players to stay up? For sure. We

have to keep working. I have the belief that they can play better. I

have seen today that they can do well in the second half. We have

eight games to play, and we have to perform at the level we performed in

the second half. Sam Allardyce spoke about the

players he had brought in. Newcastle could not get through Kirchhoff. He

was brilliant. Every time, he was there. He was just constant, the

whole game. He nicked the ball off Perez.

What about that for a tackle? Absolutely superb. For an hour, they

just could not get through him. He was brilliant. They have not kept a

clean sheet in 17 games, so Sam Allardyce said afterwards, they have

got to score twice to win games at the moment. With Jermain Defoe

upfront, they have the chances to score twice in most games. Well, he

is a good player and he looked sharp today, as good as I have seen him in

a while. He has got 15 goals this season, which is incredible for a

team playing down the bottom. Everything about his game was good

today. This was early in the game. The only strange thing was that he

didn't find the back of the net. Another good effort. And again here.

You cannot keep giving him opportunities. On your weak foot,

you have to get a good connection, and he does that superbly well. He

deserved that goal. From Sunderland's point of view, that was

a very good goal. But looking at it from a Newcastle point of view, they

have Colback on the edge of the box. He then has to go to the far post

and he vacates the area on the edge of the box. Sunderland spot that.

They played into Borini, and Colback has gone missing. And that is where

they get the goal from. Or organisation from Newcastle. To get

themselves back into the game, they have to take Kirchhoff out of it,

did they? I am sure Rafa would have said to them half-time, you have to

move the ball quicker. Too many players are having too many touches

on the ball. You have also got to get it wide. To take Kirchhoff out

of the game, because he was such a huge presence, particularly for the

first hour of the game. They go down the side with a decent header from

Mitrovic. All of a sudden, Kirchhoff is out of

the game. All right, it is a poor effort, but they are now creating

chances. This was the goal. A bit of a fluky pass, but the impressive

thing is how they work it wide. You see Kirchhoff in the middle. Again,

a bit of luck, but the rest is brilliant. That was a brilliant

header. He hangs in the air, gets the power and the accuracy. I think

a 1-1 result was a fair result in the end. I am not sure about that. I

think Sunderland edged it, personally! The other thing is, we

said this during the game. Mitrovic can head it. Let him cause problems.

Both sides have eight games love to play. Sam Allardyce said they need

four wins, see you could argue that Newcastle need four wins as well,

which is out of order. It is for both of them. It has been a very

good weekend for Norwich, put it that way. A draw did not suit any

team today, so they will be happy over the weekend. Saturday's action

Manchester City are always capable of scoring a goal. Aguero is picking

himself up. He looked as though he had been poleaxed, then got to his

feet and now has gone down again. The flag is up on the near side,

Blind involved once more. He could not get him off his feet the first

time, he did the second. We are into the last few seconds of normal time

in the first half. Yaya Toure was impeded. Manchester City were freely

that he might have been impeded as it came to him, flicked on

dangerously at the near post by Bacary Sagna. Yaya Toure held off

Michael Carrick. Michael Oliver is shaking his head.

Danger all over the place and Rashford is unlucky, it hit

Fernandinho and I don't think he knew too much about it. Rashford

have so much space, I think that is heading in and I don't think

Fernandinho knew a great deal about the block, a good save by Cavaliere.

It looked certain to be a goal. David Silva did superbly, curling

into a wearer, whose header was off target. Carrick got their ahead of

Wilfried Bony. Gael Clichy with plenty of room to move into, finding

Aguero. Smalling tripping him, he is already on a yellow card, an early

one in the game. Michael Oliver gave the free kick without hesitation.

But he is giving nothing else. Wasn't the most aggressive challenge

you have ever seen, it would have been a slightly soft yellow, it has

to be said. A promising looking for, of where row. The chancy has been

waiting for, a clear sight of goal, his first touch took him inside

Antonio Valencia but the shot was off target. Michael Oliver blows the

whistle, Manchester United are certainly back in the hunt for the

top four and if anyone is going to chase those Foxes to the line, it

finished for the season and Louis van Gaal is finished, then you come

up with a great big result, you have done it more than once this season.

I am grateful you are saying this. We have played very good matches

this season also. This victory was necessary because the gap was still

four points, now it is one point, we are equal with West Ham. Again, we

are in the race and that is important. And of course, we don't

have the matches on Thursday. That is also a positive thing. Every

player makes mistake but Demichelis did not have a great day? Every

player has a bad day. I don't think it was good for him to continue but

we didn't score a goal and that is not his fault. You spent an hour and

a half an Sergio Aguero's shoulder, are you exhausted? He has a lot of

movement and picking up an early booking, I had to be careful

throughout the game. There was a second free kick late on, was your

heart in your mouth? No, I don't think it was a booking but another

one like that, it might have been tight. You are always on edge game

like this against a player in the class of Sergio Aguero. Manchester

United only had five shots but you were impressed with the threat they

had upfront. Really impressed and surprised in many ways. He played

Jesse Lingard in the number ten roll with Rashford as the striker. He has

not played there a lot, he has been moved wide recently but they

understood each other's game and they were both a real threat. This

was on the right, real intent, this is the type of goal you expect to

see from striker like Sergio Aguero. Jesse Lingard has pace in these

middle areas of the willingness to go at people to make things happen.

Martial was a bit cute there, just getting a one on one, as it happens,

he takes the shot, good save by Joe Hart. Every time they broke from

deep it was Jesse Lingard, who is playing with freedom, it is age or

trying to grasp that opportunity, does not make that past but another

good one from Rashford. They threatened in behind Manchester

City, we have seen United have a lot of possession but not threaten in

behind but this was not the case here. Especially in the first half,

good awareness of space, picking up those pockets. I like where Rashford

ends up, he doesn't get the final ball but he is where you want your

striker to be. A definite energy about the both of them, enthusiasm

and energy, I was impressed with both of them today. Lie a real

appetite to stay in the team. Two local lads, after he has been down

with cramp. 96th minute. Another Super Bowl ad by Carrick, he was

great. They risk that the manager played them both but he was rewarded

with superb performances. -- super ball. We talked about Victor Wanyama

giving more structured to Manchester United -- to Southampton, what about

Manchester United? Heap plays a lot of passes that people do not say

well about but we know how crucial they are to get the team out. His

positional play, he made a tackle late on that was superb. I would

take him to the Euros, if you start him not is a debate but his

experience and calmness, I would have him there. A couple of

decisions, United might have felt they should have had a penalty and

city might have thought Smalling should get sent off. He gets a

yellow card for this and rightly so, he pulls him back, no complains

about that. He just grabs his left shoulder. Yellow card and he is

fortunate to get away with this, the referee right in front of him and he

is on a yellow card, Aguero with a superb turn and he stops and takes

out of the game. I think he is fortunate to get away with that, I

am not 100 and sent convinced that is a penalty. I do not think that is

enough contact to bring him down. An argument for and against but I would

not think that was a penalty. As far as the game itself was concerned,

did it feel like watching two teams who are really battling for fourth?

As a whole, the standard of that Derby underlined how far these teams

have fallen behind in recent years, the standard was pretty poor. How

concerned should Manchester City fans be? Very. I think it is very

open now between West Ham United and Manchester City. The last two

performances from Manchester City have been below average. They had a

20 minute spell in the second-half today where they put on but I don't

think it is the Pep Guardiola factor, I really don't. . Pep

Guardiola have a clause in his contract because I am pretty sure he

did not sign up for a Europa League team. How is he going to know? I am

just about giving up on the analysis, I have no idea about his

contract. There is a big danger they might not be in it. Do you think the

Wadi Oler thing is an easy excuse? -- the Pep Guardiola thing. Do you

think the reasons go deeper than a change of manager? Big players, a

bit older and have not played as well, David Silva has not been as

productive, Yaya Toure, Vincent Kompany has hardly played, Aguero

has been injured. And the recruitment and the players they

have brought in have not been good enough. It did not fall anyone when

Heller Greaney signed the new contract at the start of the season,

that was to stop people asking when Pep Guardiola would come. To

announce it when they did was baffling. Having said that, they

were still in four competitions and second in the league. And they miss

Kevin de Bruyne, massively. We look back at Saturday's action starting

with the league leaders. Drinkwater, Riyad Mahrez, a

brilliant move, through on goal but denied and Scott Dann with the

by the Japanese international. Technique, skill and a dash of

Goering do from Kazakis. This could be a big moment at both ends of the

table but especially in the race for the Premier League crown. Yohan

Cabaye with a high, swirling cross, Delaney, off the bar. Terrific

technique from the centre-back. Boom, shake, rattle and roll on

Leicester City. Sanchez. Trying to feed Danny

Welbeck, 1-0 Arsenal. Danny Welbeck getting his fourth goal in nine

games, Sanchez at the heart of it, a beautifully weighted pass. Welbeck

kept his composure and finished calmly.

This is promising, back towards Sanchez. He went tumbling, he thinks

it was contact, Mark Clattenburg doesn't. There could be a ball on

here for Alex Iwobi, he has been brilliantly found, Alex Iwobi for

Arsenal, 2-0. It is a big moment for the teenager, his first Arsenal

goal, a devastating break and it has doubled the Gunners's advantage. A

big week for Alex Iwobi, started at the Nou Camp, full Premier League

debut given to him by Arsene Wenger and the marks it with his first

Arsenal goal. He did not get there and the whistle had already gone

against Olivier Giroud. Mark Clattenburg had an excellent

position here. Phil Jagielka went tumbling. Not a great deal in it.

The goalkeeper is relieved. Plenty to ponder for Roberto Martinez

today. It was a troublesome week for Arsenal but no problems today. You

could hear the booing at Goodison Park, you watched this yesterday,

the same old things with Everton, defensively again, problems. Only a

French side have a worst defensive record at home in one of the five

major leagues. They have enough quality for it not to happen. Is it

a team thing rather than the defence? Maybe he gives them too

much freedom at home to attack but that was as bad as I have seen them

play. That performance, they went at it at all. When you are a fan, you

see them the week before beat Chelsea under lights in the cup

quarterfinal, then lacklustre against Arsenal. Playing at Everton

is intense. It is on top of you and the fans expect, the pressure in the

league is huge. The FA Cup comes around and there is more of a

carnival atmosphere, that Chelsea game, you could see a freedom in

Everton that you have not seen in the league. For all of Leicester's

free scoring football at the start of the season, you are impressed

they are winning 1-0 and shutting up shop at the other end? Earlier in

the season, Jamie Vardy was scoring goals so they were scoring two or

three a game. But they have tightened up at the back. Again,

hugely impressive result. They sent a message to the rest of the league

again, certainly the teams that are chasing them, that they aren't going

anywhere and deserve to be where they are. Across this season we go

for the visit of West Ham. I grew up in an Arsenal household,

and I just didn't like the Arsenal kit! My favourite Chelsea moment was

What a strike! That is a smashing goal! There is a real threat about

West Ham here. That was a good chance of two.

West Ham are arguing about where the line is, saying it is too far back.

Fabregas strikes it, and he strikes it beautifully! Virtually the last

kick of the first half brings Chelsea level. A lamb asking run

from Creswell as he smacked the ball against the bar. Andy Carroll's

touch! It is 2-1, West Ham! What an introduction to the game. And the

man who scored the winner in the reverse fixture makes it 2-1 at

Stamford Bridge. Over the top from Fabregas. It is going to be a

penalty. Was he just caught? Cesc Fabregas, two minutes from time. It

is 2-2, Fabregas to the rescue for Chelsea. You could tell one team was

playing to Europe and the other team was... Playing, and that was us. So

good to see Loftus get on the pitch. I always think he can affect a game

if he is given the chance. So a couple of glimmers of hope, but we

are still underperforming. Cohesion wasn't brilliant. I don't know, it

is just one of those. It is a big blip, this season. The best thing we

can hope for is to beat Tottenham. And that kind of sums up their

season, Alan. It has come down to stopping West Ham getting in the top

four and stopping Tottenham winning the title. I don't think anyone can

not be imposed with the way West Ham have been this season. Payet has

been a sensation. Of course, they have their new stadium next season,

so it looks as though they have a lot to look forward to. I realise

you can look through different decisions through a whole season and

decide whether something has cost you here or there, but West Ham fans

this evening will be thinking, that was outside the box. Given what has

happened today with City losing, we would be forced if he had given the

right decision. I know you are happy about it, being a man Utd man. Where

did that come from! I can tell by the smile on your face. The other

thing was the wall as well, which we covered last night. But West Ham

have had no luck recently with decisions. It was only a yard

outside the box. But it was still outside. I want the right decision,

superb finish. What a dreadful goal for Watford to concede. Spoke city
