Hair and a warm welcome of live coverage of the England women's

:00:27.:00:31.

football final against France. We are following Hape Powell's team as

:00:31.:00:38.

they bring their -- begin their build-up to the Euro 2013 finals in

:00:38.:00:48.
:00:48.:00:53.

Sweden. The England squad are in fine form and on an impressive run.

:00:53.:00:58.

Aluko scores the goal that surely seals England's place at the

:00:58.:01:03.

European Championships. Now Hope Powell is planning for the finals

:01:03.:01:08.

next summer and build-up matches do not come harder than France in

:01:08.:01:14.

Paris. They've finished 4th in the 2011 World Cup and in the same

:01:14.:01:19.

position in the London Olympics, only losing narrowly to Japan. The

:01:19.:01:23.

French have potency and flair to spare. Casey Stoney knows England

:01:23.:01:30.

will have to be at their best. will be a really good test. They

:01:30.:01:40.
:01:40.:01:43.

Our regular expert partnership of Sue Smith and Faye White are with

:01:43.:01:48.

me to look ahead to what will be a pretty good litmus test to where

:01:48.:01:54.

England women currently stand in the higher tier of European

:01:54.:01:59.

competition. It is fantastic to see back so soon after giving birth to

:01:59.:02:03.

little Lucas. It is a good excuse for you to get out of your pyjamas

:02:04.:02:08.

and have a makeover! To matters of football, France, you have got some

:02:08.:02:12.

history with them, your first and last cap where against them and

:02:12.:02:17.

remember the penalty in the 2011 World Cup we will not talk too much

:02:17.:02:21.

about but England have not beaten them crucially in all 11 meetings.

:02:21.:02:25.

What do you reckon will be different tonight? I think their

:02:25.:02:29.

experience in the last two major tournaments, they have got to 4th,

:02:29.:02:34.

they have gone all the way to the bronze medal match. They have a lot

:02:34.:02:40.

of players as well who played in one team, Olympic Liam, so they get

:02:40.:02:50.
:02:50.:02:50.

a lot of experience of playing week in, week out. They have from 62 at

:02:50.:02:57.

170 caps. They have been together a long time, as have England. They

:02:57.:03:02.

have had a manager in post for a long time as well. They have Nick

:03:02.:03:05.

Pitt in the big games when we have been close with them. Hopefully

:03:05.:03:13.

today we can get a win. Not too much between the two sides. Do you

:03:13.:03:18.

think they're close to winning a major tournament a times in? Yes,

:03:18.:03:22.

they are improving each year. There have been 4th twice and attacking

:03:22.:03:27.

wise they are fantastic. From defence, midfield to the centre

:03:27.:03:31.

forward, you do not know who to mark. They do not seem to concede

:03:31.:03:36.

too many girls. In the build-up to the Euros, they did not concede

:03:36.:03:41.

many goals. I think we have fantastic attacking players who can

:03:41.:03:46.

potentially do that. OK, let's get the thoughts now of the England

:03:46.:03:52.

head coach. Our reporter made the trip across the Channel to meet up

:03:52.:03:56.

with Hope Powell as the England team arrived at the ground. Thank

:03:56.:04:02.

you. Welcome to Charlety Stadium in Paris where I am afraid it has been

:04:02.:04:07.

raining pretty much all day but nowhere near as much as it did in

:04:07.:04:12.

Poland for the England men's match earlier this week. The England

:04:12.:04:16.

women's manager, Hope Powell will be pleased to hear that. You have

:04:16.:04:20.

just arrived in the stadium, thank you very much for joining me.

:04:20.:04:24.

Obviously, we know that England have qualified for Euro 2013, does

:04:24.:04:28.

that mean you can experiment with your tea more not really? It gives

:04:28.:04:33.

us the opportunity to play some top-quality opposition. We are

:04:33.:04:39.

looking ahead to 2013, preparation starts now. We will see how the

:04:39.:04:43.

game progresses and hopefully we can use a number of players.

:04:43.:04:47.

Hopefully it will be a good fixtures. We do know a few players

:04:47.:04:52.

are missing including one of your top strikers, Kelly Smith. Can you

:04:52.:04:57.

tell us more about who is playing today? Karen Bardsley is in goal,

:04:57.:05:05.

Steph, Sophie and Casey. My brain has gone, sorry, I have not been

:05:05.:05:10.

very well, so you will have to excuse me. Karen Carney will play

:05:10.:05:17.

in midfield. Rachel Yankey, Ellen White and Eniola Aluko on the right.

:05:17.:05:21.

It is a tough test against France, they are a challenging opposition.

:05:21.:05:26.

Yes, they are the calibre that we want. It will give us a bit of a

:05:26.:05:29.

barometer to see where we are and see what we need to achieve over

:05:29.:05:35.

the next eight months. Thank you. I will be back in a little while.

:05:35.:05:41.

Both I'm sure Hope Powell did not mean to forget Alex Scott. How can

:05:41.:05:46.

you, she is such a regular. Just the one change for England from the

:05:46.:05:50.

Croatia game we saw on the BBC from Walsall. That is Ellen White coming

:05:50.:06:00.
:06:00.:06:02.

I think Ellen White will want to prove the point. She missed out on

:06:03.:06:07.

the last game through suspension. She will want to come in and make

:06:07.:06:11.

that game her own. I think the three in midfield will be vital

:06:11.:06:18.

today. The way France play with the one and the two, you think how well

:06:18.:06:28.
:06:28.:06:28.

It is an attacking line-up against a good side away from home. Rachel

:06:28.:06:33.

has the experience, she has played quite well in the last few games

:06:33.:06:38.

and had player of the match. She deserves to keep her place. Likes

:06:38.:06:42.

to said, Alan had a back injury, she missed out during the Olympics,

:06:42.:06:47.

not playing a lot of football and the WS sell says she will be happy

:06:47.:06:57.

to come back in. -- W S Al. Fara Williams is not in the team at the

:06:57.:07:03.

moment. They will be looking to Karen Carney to make that happen

:07:03.:07:07.

and thread the ball through to Ellen. Familiar names in the

:07:07.:07:12.

England starting line-up. Previously, some of our focus has

:07:12.:07:16.

fallen on the most experienced players in the squad. Rachel Yankey

:07:16.:07:24.

is one of them. She has passed Gillian Cooke tub's 119 cap record.

:07:24.:07:31.

What about the future of at the England women's team? Do we have

:07:31.:07:38.

exciting talent coming through? You always look up to the senior

:07:38.:07:46.

players, the likes of see you and Casey. I look up to them. They can

:07:46.:07:50.

definitely improve me as a player. When I was younger I used to watch

:07:50.:07:55.

them play. You are going to learn from them and it is only going to

:07:55.:08:01.

help me as well for the future of. I always wanted to be Fay when I

:08:01.:08:06.

was playing. A just being around the players helps me improve. I

:08:06.:08:13.

want to learn from the best. Ever since I was a little girl, that was

:08:13.:08:20.

my dream to play for England. I got picked when I was 13, I started in

:08:20.:08:23.

the under fifteens and I have now progressed and am playing for the

:08:23.:08:26.

seniors. It is an amazing achievement and something I always

:08:26.:08:31.

wanted to do. I remember sitting in the room with the 15th and they

:08:31.:08:35.

said two people will make it. I remember looking around the room

:08:35.:08:39.

thinking, how will I get there? have always known that the talent

:08:39.:08:45.

in England is huge and it is very hard to get that challenge. It is

:08:45.:08:51.

something where you have had to work a bit harder. Toni Duggan, her

:08:51.:08:54.

first appearance at full international level. I was just

:08:54.:08:58.

delighted to get out there. I was nervous, of course, like you would

:08:58.:09:03.

be but I loved every minute of it. It was great to see her get on the

:09:03.:09:10.

pitch. Hopefully one day I can do the same. I came on and sobbed for

:09:10.:09:18.

Fe. Then I got injured. And then I finally got picked. Playing

:09:18.:09:22.

alongside Casey was really good. was in partnership with her for

:09:22.:09:27.

over a season. She is fantastic, reliable, dependable, it shows you

:09:27.:09:32.

how far she has come at such a young age. She is very mature and

:09:32.:09:37.

her decision making is brilliant. Another bright star. Hope has

:09:37.:09:40.

brought in a few younger players recently. By are chomping at the

:09:40.:09:46.

bit to get a starting place. They can learn from the more experienced

:09:46.:09:50.

players and we can learn from them with their hyper energy they have

:09:50.:09:55.

brought to the squad. On my first trip I remember hope introducing

:09:55.:10:01.

herself and I was a bit taken aback. She said just be yourself. They all

:10:01.:10:08.

help each other reached -- they all help each other out. The senior

:10:08.:10:12.

players will with come up to the younger ones and introduce

:10:12.:10:14.

themselves and they just be themselves, that is how they got

:10:14.:10:19.

here. I think it is important that the senior players in part their

:10:19.:10:22.

knowledge with the younger players and try and help them. Don't get me

:10:22.:10:27.

wrong, not all the younger players need it. Some of them are fantastic.

:10:27.:10:33.

Sometimes they might not make the right decisions. They have come

:10:33.:10:36.

into a set-up where there are more experienced players than them but

:10:36.:10:40.

they hold their own. They are chomping at the bit and trying to

:10:40.:10:44.

prove a point to Hope and the other players that they need to be here -

:10:44.:10:50.

- deserve to be here and rightly so. You cannot take that away from them,

:10:50.:10:56.

we all aspire to be like that but it will be a pretty difficult task.

:10:56.:11:01.

I would like to think in time to come I will get 100 caps myself.

:11:01.:11:09.

I take my chances, what could come of it? Of all the players that the

:11:09.:11:13.

international team get to pick from, it is getting better. These

:11:13.:11:17.

youngsters are coming in and fighting to be part of the England

:11:17.:11:22.

set-up and that is a big headache for Hope to have. I'm glad I will

:11:22.:11:25.

be retiring in a few years because they are getting better and better

:11:25.:11:28.

and I will be looking over my shoulder!

:11:28.:11:35.

So unlovely interviews there with the -- some lovely interviews there

:11:35.:11:40.

with the next generation. Plays you know really well, the likes of

:11:40.:11:46.

Saviour Bradley a and a fellow Scouser Toni Duggan, are they good

:11:46.:11:52.

enough to replace the old guard? They are fantastic. The attitudes

:11:52.:11:55.

of the young players coming through now, because they have been from

:11:56.:11:59.

the under fifteens right through to the senior squad, they want to

:11:59.:12:02.

learn and they want to learn from the experienced players and they

:12:02.:12:07.

will go a long way. It would be nice to seek Toni Duggan come on

:12:07.:12:11.

today and make an impact. They do seem to have a fantastic attitude,

:12:11.:12:15.

as somebody from the outside looking in, it is important that

:12:15.:12:21.

they have the right mentality, isn't it? Their attitude is really

:12:21.:12:24.

good. They come into the squad and they know what is expected of them.

:12:24.:12:29.

They know the routine and the demands of training. They have such

:12:29.:12:35.

a professionalism. When we didn't - - when we were at their we did not

:12:35.:12:38.

because the game has changed so much. It is important to be that

:12:38.:12:43.

confident. England certainly need to be careful of the threat posed

:12:44.:12:46.

from a very dangerous looking French side. We are just about

:12:46.:12:50.

ready to head over to Paris but remember, you can get in touch with

:12:50.:12:55.

us via the usual Facebook and Twitter channels. It is now time to

:12:55.:13:05.
:13:05.:13:17.

see England begin their build-up to evening everybody. The build-up

:13:17.:13:21.

begins in Paris. France finished 4th in both the World Cup and the

:13:21.:13:25.

London Olympics and should give England a very good idea of where

:13:25.:13:29.

they currently are in European football's pecking order and what

:13:29.:13:33.

they need to do to be truly competitive in Sweden next year.

:13:33.:13:37.

Outside of the big two, the USA and Germany, the French are pretty much

:13:37.:13:42.

on back and a full? Yes, they have proved in the last couple of

:13:42.:13:47.

tournaments that they are the ones to watch out for. They have shown

:13:47.:13:57.
:13:57.:13:57.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:13:57.:14:45.

and come through as a group from or we will now have the French

:14:45.:14:55.
:14:55.:14:55.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:14:55.:16:02.

Sandrine Soubeyrand, winning her 186 two age -- 186th cap for the

:16:02.:16:08.

French tonight. Their goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi coming in alongside

:16:08.:16:16.

at Laura Georges. They experienced goalkeeper not involved in the side

:16:16.:16:26.
:16:26.:16:36.

Williams. Eniola Aluko will try to offer some width down the right

:16:36.:16:46.
:16:46.:16:56.

Williams, alongside Siobhan Chamberlain for England, and Elodie

:16:56.:16:59.

Thomis has often been a dangerous player, coming off the bench, as

:17:00.:17:09.
:17:10.:17:13.

she was in that World Cup quarter- many familiar names for these

:17:13.:17:19.

England players, looking back to that horrible day back in at 2011.

:17:19.:17:24.

They can't settle any real scores are here today, but it would set

:17:24.:17:30.

down a marker before next week. France are doing really well, an

:17:30.:17:34.

emerging nation. When you get beaten like that, it's a bit to

:17:34.:17:39.

spill -- a poll to swallow. You now want to show they are at your love

:17:39.:17:43.

for and there should be a competitive match. There is no such

:17:43.:17:47.

thing as a friendly and I think England will be out there to prove

:17:47.:17:51.

they are the same as France. There will be plenty of build up games

:17:51.:17:57.

before the European Championships in Sweden next year. Hope Powell

:17:57.:18:00.

has chosen one of the toughest possible opponents to kick-off,

:18:00.:18:07.

when you look at some of the names there, Eugenie Le Sommer, near us

:18:07.:18:10.

to the camera, and the England players have plenty of smiles, but

:18:10.:18:14.

know they are playing for their places as well. If you take out

:18:14.:18:18.

Holland, it was a relatively routine group for the qualification.

:18:18.:18:23.

Now the hard work really starts. Yes, like Hope said before, this

:18:23.:18:28.

will be an indicator of where they are. It's not just a friendly, but

:18:28.:18:32.

it's looking towards next summer. All the players now want their

:18:32.:18:35.

place in the squad because younger players are coming through and they

:18:35.:18:40.

don't want to give up their spot easily. Here are some young players

:18:40.:18:45.

coming onto the pitch for the French, members of their under 17

:18:45.:18:49.

squad, who won the World Championship in Azerbaijan recently.

:18:49.:18:54.

That shows this French team, below this level, have some very talented

:18:54.:19:01.

youngsters coming through. Yes, they move through in groups. If you

:19:01.:19:04.

get that, then you get a real momentum going forward as they move

:19:04.:19:10.

up to senior football. The French coach has a firm grip on at the

:19:10.:19:16.

French football system. After our celebrity kick-off involving the

:19:16.:19:20.

under 17 players, we will finally get the real action under way and

:19:20.:19:25.

the hard work really starting for England now. Its the build up to

:19:25.:19:35.
:19:35.:19:38.

important here in Paris tonight, but a good England performance

:19:38.:19:42.

against one of the best teams in the world at the moment would give

:19:42.:19:46.

them real confidence as the build- up to that major tournament begins.

:19:46.:19:50.

You look at the players not involved, it shows the strength and

:19:50.:19:57.

depth they have at the moment. it does. Both players have had

:19:57.:20:07.
:20:07.:20:15.

playing system. Just like England. We saw many of their players

:20:15.:20:19.

involved in the London Olympics when they came so close to beating

:20:19.:20:25.

the world champions, Japan, and also the United States of America.

:20:25.:20:32.

Karen Bardsley has to do with a long-range shot from Celine Deville,

:20:32.:20:37.

who will be their major striker this evening. They had some good

:20:37.:20:43.

attacking this evening. A very fluid formation, as well. Here is

:20:43.:20:49.

Alex Scott. And now Eniola Aluko, who was the player of the game

:20:49.:20:53.

England's last performance against Croatia, which sealed their place

:20:53.:20:57.

at the European Championship. Sophie Bradley, one of the

:20:57.:21:04.

youngsters we heard from before the game, it's a tribute to her that

:21:04.:21:12.

they White retired and she has not been missed. I played with save the

:21:12.:21:17.

Bradley when she was 16 at Leeds and she was exactly the same now as

:21:17.:21:21.

she was them. She was mature. As a centre half, it's important. You

:21:22.:21:26.

have got to make the right decisions in the centre halves.

:21:26.:21:31.

Sophie has slotted in really well into the England senior set-up.

:21:31.:21:41.
:21:41.:21:47.

Karen Carney was a bit loose. The her back four. The ball into the

:21:47.:21:56.

penalty area. Shepherded the back to Karen Bardsley. The French have

:21:56.:22:01.

got a lot of pace. It frightens defenders and the team and all of

:22:01.:22:11.
:22:11.:22:24.

their players have that. They are surface after a heady days rain in

:22:24.:22:31.

Paris. A prolific story, her 50th cap. She already has 40

:22:31.:22:41.
:22:41.:22:54.

Karen Carney is muscled off the ball again. Karen Bardsley has to

:22:54.:22:59.

make a routine save from the ball which was eventually fired back in.

:22:59.:23:03.

You can see the strength of the French, winning the ball back

:23:03.:23:08.

easily in midfield at the moment. A couple of opportunities. Nothing to

:23:08.:23:11.

worry Karen Bardsley, but she will think they need to get closer to

:23:11.:23:19.

midfield more. More discipline from Jill Scott and Anita Asante needed

:23:19.:23:29.
:23:29.:23:30.

there. There is Sarah Bouhaddi, the French goalkeeper. She plays for

:23:30.:23:37.

Lyon. The champions of Europe. She is very much a stand in here.

:23:37.:23:41.

Celine Deville was first choice goalkeeper for some time and played

:23:41.:23:51.
:23:51.:24:16.

against England and Germany in that striker receiving but has had to do

:24:17.:24:21.

most of the work in the opening five minutes deep in her own half.

:24:21.:24:25.

England need to go deeper to compact the midfield a little bit.

:24:25.:24:30.

Just put it against those French two midfielders. Two very good

:24:30.:24:34.

players. England need to wrestle the initiative off France, away

:24:34.:24:39.

from home. And the French have become a bogey side for England

:24:39.:24:45.

over the years. The English have not been victorious since a 2-0

:24:45.:24:51.

victory at Wimbledon is owned cloud Lane back in November 1974. The

:24:51.:24:56.

French move forward again. Celine Deville bursts into the area.

:24:56.:25:04.

could see the pace and the defending ability of Sophie Bradley

:25:04.:25:14.
:25:14.:25:23.

are to make sure they got a shot on Karen badly. Laura Georges

:25:23.:25:27.

challenging for the ball in the air and England still have some work to

:25:27.:25:32.

do here. Sandrine Soubeyrand with the header down the line. They have

:25:33.:25:36.

been relative sanctuary of a throw- in. I would expect England to

:25:36.:25:40.

whether a bit of a storm, being in Paris. The French will want to put

:25:41.:25:46.

a show on for the supporters. The first 20 minutes or so is meant to

:25:46.:25:56.
:25:56.:25:58.

be as safe as possible, they need Sandrine Soubeyrand. Rachel Yankey

:25:58.:26:06.

could not exploit the possession. Good defending from Alex Scott in

:26:06.:26:11.

the end, to drive her out at the vital moment. A little stumble

:26:11.:26:15.

there. She was out of position coming back but speed gets her back

:26:15.:26:21.

in there, enough to put off Eugenie Le Sommer, her first shot on goal.

:26:21.:26:24.

Quality going forward, three players, one on either side,

:26:24.:26:29.

difficult for a defence to deal with. The French coach has such a

:26:29.:26:38.

wealth of attacking talent available to him. Marie-Laure Delie

:26:38.:26:42.

scored in Cyprus, a comprehensive 3-0 victory for France on that

:26:42.:26:52.
:26:52.:27:13.

been able to pick up some the end and that is good defending

:27:13.:27:19.

by Laura Georges. Good play by Ellen White there. Played the ball

:27:19.:27:25.

into Karen Carney. The flag stayed down. She is allowed to continue.

:27:26.:27:32.

Marie-Laure Delie. England almost presented the opportunity but in

:27:33.:27:36.

the end, it scrambled away again. The a few seconds difference

:27:36.:27:40.

between the England attack and the opportunity on goal. It looked

:27:40.:27:44.

offside to me but not the way the assistant referee looks at that.

:27:44.:27:49.

Again, just attacking with speed and most of the England defenders

:27:49.:27:55.

missed that. Luckily, the long legs of Jill Scott got rid of it. Good

:27:55.:28:05.

play by her. She created a good chance but what if France had

:28:05.:28:11.

attacked properly on that occasion? Hope Powell wanted a difficult test

:28:11.:28:14.

for her side and from the evidence of the opening nine minutes or so,

:28:15.:28:24.
:28:25.:28:34.

she will certainly get one here in Sandrine Soubeyrand and Casey

:28:34.:28:43.

Stoney, and England have the throw- in. A rare Casey Stoney goal, only

:28:43.:28:53.
:28:53.:29:05.

her 5th at international level, in scoresheet. Ellen White, suspended

:29:05.:29:13.

for that game. In the absence of Kelly Smith, who was injured again,

:29:13.:29:17.

I think Ellen White was always likely to come back into the side

:29:17.:29:22.

but we you surprised Fara Williams had to make way? A little bit. Fara

:29:22.:29:26.

has had an up-and-down season. You can't play in a position she wants

:29:26.:29:36.
:29:36.:29:54.

but it is where she fits into this side. Hope likes to play Aluko,

:29:55.:30:02.

Karen Carney and Rachel Yankey. Fara Williams may be missed tonight

:30:02.:30:12.
:30:12.:30:21.

but it is up to others to take forward. On to the head of Houghton.

:30:21.:30:28.

England give the ball away rather cheaply again. That was a decent

:30:28.:30:38.
:30:38.:30:43.

looked like a foul there but a great little turn, lovely feet.

:30:43.:30:48.

Karen Bardsley obviously thought that was going to go in the top

:30:48.:30:52.

corner and dived appropriately. That shows a striker with

:30:52.:30:56.

confidence. She is a striker full of confidence and you would expect

:30:56.:31:03.

to see her on the scoresheet of these international games as she

:31:03.:31:11.

has been recently. She is one of seven Leon players playing this

:31:11.:31:21.
:31:21.:31:27.

evening. They are the team to beat easier said than done. As soon as

:31:27.:31:30.

he put a ball in that space, the French try just attacking in

:31:30.:31:35.

numbers. If it means turning France around for a few minutes, that is

:31:35.:31:42.

what you need to do. The French have such an impressive home record.

:31:42.:31:47.

They have won their last 12 games here and not conceded a goal in

:31:47.:31:52.

their last six. Anything England can get here tonight would be a

:31:52.:31:56.

real achievement. They want to be measured against the best in Europe,

:31:56.:32:00.

heading towards the European Championships. It is games like

:32:00.:32:10.
:32:10.:32:10.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:32:10.:33:03.

this they need to play and also to The French have been fairly direct

:33:03.:33:13.
:33:13.:33:26.

surely it! The way the game is going, you have to earn the right

:33:26.:33:30.

to play and England cannot just played the way they want to

:33:30.:33:35.

straightaway, they have to learn the way -- the right to play

:33:35.:33:41.

against a strong French team away from home. Part of that is not

:33:41.:33:49.

giving away the ball. They are just giving the ball away in a bit too

:33:49.:33:56.

much at the moment. It is a very attacking line-up for England.

:33:56.:34:02.

There is real responsibility on Anita Asante. I would imagine

:34:02.:34:05.

against the better teams in major tournaments, she may have a major

:34:05.:34:15.
:34:15.:34:53.

job to do in there. It will be more Franco. Aluko managed to beat her

:34:53.:35:01.

second time around. England need to keep the ball up here as much as

:35:01.:35:06.

possible. If you can get Alex got forward and staff Houghton Ford, it

:35:06.:35:12.

will get the French under pressure. It is a bit cat-and-mouse at the

:35:12.:35:20.

moment. It is at which fullback can get the upper hand? At the moment,

:35:20.:35:26.

it is the French. I do expect the momentum to change. England do have

:35:26.:35:36.
:35:36.:35:57.

hold onto the ball inside the carries herself well. She is 39,

:35:57.:36:07.
:36:07.:36:20.

attack, they look a bit out of shape defending. It is always a

:36:20.:36:30.
:36:30.:36:30.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:36:30.:37:40.

reach to defend it but doing all strikers and the midfielders which

:37:40.:37:44.

is causing England problem so far. People talk about playing between

:37:44.:37:49.

the lines of the defence, midfield and attack and it is key that when

:37:49.:37:53.

you do that you actually arrive in the space, you are not stood in it.

:37:53.:38:03.
:38:03.:38:19.

She kicks the ball and it is really Just giving a bit too much time for

:38:19.:38:24.

me. Excellent play by Karren Bardsley. A really strong player.

:38:24.:38:34.
:38:34.:38:41.

One of the strongest players in the corner. Necib takes a. It cleared

:38:41.:38:45.

the near post. The French have it back again but this time it was too

:38:45.:38:55.
:38:55.:39:06.

bit quicker than that. 20 minutes gone and it is 0-0. That is what

:39:07.:39:10.

Hope Powell would have wanted. Goals may be at a premium here

:39:10.:39:14.

tonight because the French conceded only two goals in their qualifying

:39:14.:39:20.

campaign. Their won or eight games scoring 32 goals in the process,

:39:20.:39:25.

including heavy wins over Wales, Scotland and the Republic of

:39:25.:39:28.

Ireland. England only conceded two goals in their opening game and

:39:28.:39:32.

that was it for them. You could argue that apart from the

:39:32.:39:37.

Netherlands they were in a slightly easier group. They do have

:39:37.:39:40.

confidence. That is White Hope Powell has not tinkered too much

:39:40.:39:46.

with the goalkeeper and the back four. The more they play together,

:39:46.:39:51.

the more experience they will have. This is a big game tonight. It may

:39:51.:39:56.

be a friendly but it is still a big game. A lot of the women's football

:39:56.:39:59.

world will be looking at this to see where England are. Bono France

:39:59.:40:09.
:40:09.:40:22.

are doing well but how do England Bardsley. That was a great recovery

:40:22.:40:32.
:40:32.:40:38.

away. They spent much of the opening 20 minutes also on the

:40:38.:40:48.
:40:48.:40:59.

Bardsley by Delie. That was a great tackle. If Yankey had got a touch

:40:59.:41:06.

too that, she would have been in full flow. An opportunity for the

:41:06.:41:13.

French to line up their sights on goal. Can Neil Abily he made the

:41:13.:41:19.

challenge, is one of a number of centurions in at the French team. -

:41:19.:41:29.
:41:29.:41:39.

England when they get inside the French half. There is much for Hope

:41:39.:41:45.

Powell to ponder here. Yes, but I expect what is happening is what

:41:45.:41:48.

she expect it to happen. She just wants a little bit more going

:41:49.:41:53.

forward, I would expect. Front have to be aware of the threat that

:41:53.:41:58.

England have. Otherwise they will just have more players forward.

:41:58.:42:08.
:42:08.:42:08.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:42:08.:42:55.

laboured at the moment. -- England's possession is all a bit

:42:55.:43:02.

laboured at the moment. Saviour Bradley has had a very busy start

:43:02.:43:11.

to this game. I don't know she was caught the wrong side but she is

:43:11.:43:17.

causing problems for the two centre halves. England cannot get into any

:43:17.:43:27.
:43:27.:43:38.

corner count so far without any real reward. That ball clearly went

:43:38.:43:48.

behind. A goal kick has been given. When you look at the calibre of the

:43:48.:43:52.

teams who have managed to beat the French in recent times, the USA,

:43:52.:43:57.

the Olympic champions, Japan, the world champions, and Canada who

:43:57.:44:00.

picked up a bronze medal at the London Olympics, it gives you an

:44:00.:44:06.

idea of the task facing the England side tonight. Their coach is not

:44:06.:44:11.

afraid to make some awkward decisions as well. Sunnier

:44:11.:44:15.

Bompastor is considered one of the best left-backs but she has been

:44:15.:44:20.

left out for reasons of squad harmony, according to the coach.

:44:20.:44:24.

There are great stories about that. I think he has chosen some of this

:44:24.:44:27.

got instead of power because she does not get on with them,

:44:27.:44:35.

allegedly. Bid team have to get on. As a coach, you have to make big

:44:35.:44:38.

decisions like that if players don't get on. That is what he has

:44:38.:44:43.

done because he has got rid of a player who is a very good player

:44:43.:44:48.

and has a lot of experience. She is a world-class player. It must have

:44:48.:44:58.
:44:58.:45:10.

another shot on goal, this time from Louisa Necib. She gets the

:45:10.:45:15.

ball into some great positions. She scooped the ball. You saw the

:45:15.:45:19.

position that she picks the ball up in. It was too far from the centre

:45:19.:45:29.
:45:29.:45:42.

half for them to pick up the ball whole 90 minutes in the last game,

:45:42.:45:47.

but were clinging on grimly to a Jill Scott goal, but the French

:45:47.:45:50.

equalised with two minutes to play. And eventually won the game on

:45:50.:46:00.
:46:00.:46:04.

penalties, on the way to finishing art have to take at the time, when

:46:04.:46:10.

you play the year after that, those experiences really help. You are

:46:10.:46:15.

able to actually deal with games like this a lot better, games in

:46:15.:46:20.

the championships, from those bad experiences. You tend to learn more

:46:20.:46:24.

from the bad experiences than the good. England have now qualified

:46:24.:46:28.

for the 5th successive major tournament, so a number of these

:46:28.:46:32.

players are used to playing at the sharp end of women's international

:46:32.:46:42.
:46:42.:46:48.

the area. There she is! And, again! A great clearance from Alex Scott

:46:48.:46:54.

and England somehow scrambled the ball away. She played on the

:46:54.:46:58.

shoulders of the defenders and tried to get in, try to be clever,

:46:58.:47:03.

and a great defending from Alex Scott on the line. England escape.

:47:03.:47:07.

You have got to put the ball in there. Unless you can do that

:47:07.:47:15.

really, really well, and because she did that, she didn't get it in.

:47:15.:47:25.
:47:25.:47:29.

It looks good if you can get it in. penalty area and that one does not

:47:29.:47:39.
:47:39.:47:47.

player here, Alex Scott, a real up Rolls-Royce for England, playing it

:47:47.:47:57.
:47:57.:48:10.

England do not make the most of the opportunity. They are finding it

:48:10.:48:14.

difficult to get the balls in the right area for the likes of Rachel

:48:14.:48:18.

Yankey and Eniola Aluko to get on the end of. It's not like they have

:48:18.:48:26.

played badly. England, still 0-0 after half an hour. If they get to

:48:26.:48:31.

this at half-time, I'm sure Hope Powell will make some tweaks to the

:48:31.:48:36.

formation or personnel. If they get the scoreline at the half-time Mark,

:48:36.:48:46.
:48:46.:48:54.

right-hand side. It's a great pass. Alex Scott again. But nobody coming

:48:54.:49:04.
:49:04.:49:33.

the French defenders to get a touch sits in front of the back four and

:49:33.:49:37.

tries to dictate the play but England, there, snapping at her

:49:37.:49:47.
:49:47.:50:25.

ball in play but England have to the challenge but Eniola Aluko was

:50:25.:50:30.

there again. Much better by England. You can't see the pace of Eniola

:50:30.:50:35.

Aluko on the left-hand side, she managed to get away. This is what

:50:35.:50:39.

England need to do because they have the players to do it, put

:50:39.:50:43.

pressure on the French back four. They are thinking about defending

:50:43.:50:53.
:50:53.:50:53.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:50:53.:51:41.

rather than going forward. England Aluko will chase just for a second

:51:41.:51:44.

there. It did appear Sarah Bouhaddi carried the ball outside the

:51:44.:51:52.

penalty area. She did. What will the referee do here? I don't know

:51:52.:51:57.

why she did not kick about. It was obvious she was going to handle

:51:57.:52:03.

outside the area. I think, had that been a competitive game, Sarah

:52:03.:52:07.

Bouhaddi would be shown the red card because it was deliberate

:52:07.:52:11.

handball. You have got to go by the rules of football. If it's outside

:52:11.:52:21.
:52:21.:52:25.

embarrassed. Why didn't she header it? She was a foot and a half of

:52:25.:52:35.
:52:35.:52:38.

from a Eniola Aluko. We saw Steph Houghton score from this range from

:52:38.:52:48.
:52:48.:52:56.

this eerie air in the Olympics. She and she has done it here for

:52:56.:53:01.

England in Paris. The brilliant. England have hardly had an

:53:01.:53:04.

opportunity but you see the importance of set pieces and then

:53:04.:53:07.

you have players like Steph Houghton who can really strike a

:53:07.:53:11.

ball. She gets the ball through the wall and the goalkeeper has no

:53:11.:53:16.

chance. You can see the intent in her eyes. She is technically

:53:16.:53:21.

unbelievable so when she gets a ball in a set piece like that, a

:53:21.:53:27.

dead-ball situation. The speed on that. She will not stop that. I bet

:53:27.:53:32.

you verses she got sent off now. What a fantastic kick that was

:53:32.:53:36.

against the run of play. England will not be too concerned because

:53:36.:53:40.

soaking up pressure and striking decisively is what you need to do

:53:40.:53:45.

in games like this. The French need to learn you do not get a goal for

:53:45.:53:53.

10 passes. You need to get pressure. This is what this level of football

:53:53.:53:59.

is all about. England have been lucky not to concede. But also the

:53:59.:54:05.

way they have defended it... Steph Houghton has such a purple patch

:54:05.:54:11.

for Team GB. Three goals in the Group Stage at the London Olympics.

:54:11.:54:18.

She has come up here for her first international goal for England,

:54:18.:54:28.
:54:28.:55:05.

alongside those goals for Great Karen Bardsley. Eugenie Le Sommer

:55:05.:55:12.

was isolated. Sophie Bradley in the end let her turn. In these

:55:13.:55:16.

conditions, the ball dipped before the goalkeeper, always difficult to

:55:16.:55:20.

deal with it but Karen Bardsley gets a body behind it and makes no

:55:21.:55:26.

mistake. The French have carved out, virtually, all the opportunities

:55:26.:55:34.

here, but, for England, one goal so far. Rachel Yankey not able to

:55:34.:55:44.
:55:44.:56:01.

conceding a goal at home has now challenges but the French have the

:56:01.:56:11.
:56:11.:56:30.

Corine Franco still has the ball. Casey Stoney just taking the sting

:56:30.:56:35.

out of that header. The French build up play in the first half has

:56:35.:56:42.

been pretty good, but that last little bit. Karen Bardsley has been

:56:42.:56:47.

equal to it. The English have defended well. Not quite the

:56:47.:56:57.
:56:57.:57:18.

quality they have in the middle the closest player to her, there

:57:18.:57:23.

was nobody in the penalty area. England, all of a sudden, have the

:57:23.:57:30.

belief they can do this. Bradley was there again, and she has coped

:57:30.:57:35.

pretty well with the French maned goal threat so far. More players

:57:35.:57:39.

want to get on the ball now, and the way they are knocking at around

:57:39.:57:49.
:57:49.:57:56.

now, is what they needed. More against Eugenie Le Sommer but

:57:56.:58:02.

Celine Deville was onside. The Italian referee getting away. Will

:58:02.:58:09.

that help out England? Here is Karen Carney. Jill Scott! Fantastic

:58:09.:58:18.

goal! What a classic breakaway! And England have doubled their lead.

:58:19.:58:23.

Great play on the left-hand side. I know England have been working on

:58:23.:58:28.

moving the ball and cross in early. That was the first opportunity they

:58:28.:58:32.

have had. Jill Scott went for it and got her head on it. What a

:58:32.:58:42.
:58:42.:58:43.

great finish that was. She finishes it superbly well. 2-0. I would

:58:43.:58:47.

never have said that. England were lucky they do not want to concede

:58:47.:58:52.

before the break. Scoring two is a double bonus. I would have said

:58:52.:58:56.

that two minutes ago. What a terrific header from Jill Scott.

:58:56.:59:01.

The fact she was forward, they have obviously worked on that. Get the

:59:01.:59:04.

ball in the box. They had the opportunity to do it but Rachel

:59:04.:59:07.

Yankey did it and Jill Scott goes beyond the strikers and scores a

:59:07.:59:16.

goal. Marie-Laure Delie, trying to get something going now for the

:59:16.:59:21.

French, the look absolutely stunned. They controlled the opening half-

:59:21.:59:25.

an-hour but the deliberate handball from their goalkeeper gave them the

:59:25.:59:30.

opportunity and, from that moment on, England have been in charge.

:59:30.:59:35.

Here is a chance for Laure Boulleau. That deflection not helping the

:59:35.:59:45.
:59:45.:59:56.

the pressure and taking your chances and England have certainly

:59:56.:00:06.
:00:06.:00:32.

heavier and heavier here has the rain tumbles down. Camille Abily

:00:32.:00:40.

wins the free kick. Gil Scott scored that goal in the World Cup

:00:40.:00:50.
:00:50.:01:18.

quarter-final and she scored the it, right that it. -- right that it.

:01:18.:01:23.

But was routine for Bardsley again. Routine that difficult when you

:01:23.:01:27.

know you have got players coming and attacking you afterwards. In

:01:27.:01:32.

these conditions, all bounces in front of the keeper are difficult

:01:32.:01:42.
:01:42.:01:45.

to deal with. The next one could be the key goal. If France get it, if

:01:45.:01:54.

England get it back or be enough to destroy France's confidence. There

:01:54.:01:59.

is another free kick. Casey Stoney this time with the challenge.

:01:59.:02:04.

is not the best place to give one of those free kicks. Casey Stoney

:02:04.:02:14.
:02:14.:02:20.

moment, like expect the coach will have a few words to say to his team

:02:20.:02:30.
:02:30.:02:36.

had a superb first-half. There have. Both of them have positioned

:02:36.:02:42.

themselves extremely well, her and Casey Stoney. She has worked really

:02:42.:02:47.

hard, she is a great centre forward. I don't know if they will do

:02:47.:02:51.

something different in the second half, the French, but if they keep

:02:51.:02:57.

doing what they're doing, they will keep a clean sheet. England have

:02:57.:03:00.

had two a tense and two goals so far. Looking for more just before

:03:00.:03:10.
:03:10.:03:11.

half-time. Bradley back to her goalkeeper. She made a number of

:03:11.:03:21.
:03:21.:03:26.

have an assured goalkeeper. When you know your goalkeeper is strong

:03:26.:03:35.

it really does help the back four. If it gets passed them, they know

:03:36.:03:45.
:03:46.:03:51.

they have a goalkeeper behind who again and there she is. England

:03:51.:03:57.

will take the corner. They are getting more bodies forward now.

:03:57.:04:07.
:04:07.:04:34.

England are aware of the threat of the attack. Ellen White went flying.

:04:34.:04:42.

There will be one additional minute at the end of the first half. I

:04:42.:04:47.

think Asante was a bit unlucky there. That was not a foul. There

:04:47.:04:57.
:04:57.:05:14.

to negotiate and it will be a corner. It is key for England now

:05:14.:05:24.
:05:24.:05:44.

decisive fist this time. The danger was not cleared but it was a good

:05:44.:05:51.

block inside the area. England get to half-time leading by two goals

:05:51.:05:55.

to zero. That flurry at the end of the first half really summed up

:05:55.:06:00.

much of what we have seen. England then responded with two goals

:06:00.:06:04.

within five minutes from Steph Houghton and Jill Scott. It is a

:06:05.:06:14.
:06:15.:06:17.

very impressive half-time scoreline Well, we all expected that and it

:06:17.:06:21.

was a thoroughly fair reflection of the first half. All right, we are

:06:21.:06:26.

completely stunned! Sue Smith and Faye White watching in the studio.

:06:26.:06:30.

What did you make of that? We were watching the first half and we

:06:30.:06:34.

thought France were playing really well. They kept the ball really

:06:34.:06:40.

well and they were attacking. We thought how many will this be? And

:06:40.:06:46.

suddenly come from nowhere, we managed to scored two goals. We

:06:46.:06:52.

managed to build up the pressure. Do you think that was the tactic,

:06:52.:06:57.

to be completely outplayed at first? Not really. France are so

:06:57.:07:02.

good, their attacking players all interchange. Eugenie Le Sommer and

:07:03.:07:09.

Gaetane Thiney play really now road to get their full-backs on. Eugenie

:07:09.:07:16.

Le Sommer looked really threatening for them. Necib was floating around.

:07:16.:07:22.

She is like that. She manages to be in the right place at the right

:07:22.:07:27.

time for France. It is quite hard to keep an eye on her really. They

:07:27.:07:32.

completely controlled it. But to go, normally our problem is clinical

:07:33.:07:37.

finishing so today it has worked for us. They have definitely been

:07:37.:07:42.

practising finishing, haven't they? There have. Steph Houghton has. We

:07:42.:07:48.

will see her goal in a minute. Let's just have a look. We have

:07:48.:07:52.

just been talking about how the goalkeeper, Sarah Bouhaddi, cost

:07:52.:07:55.

them a couple of times in the Olympics. That is exactly what

:07:55.:08:01.

happened here. She carried the ball outside the area. Steph Houghton,

:08:01.:08:06.

what a fantastic strike force of three goals in Great Britain's

:08:06.:08:10.

first three games in the Olympics, she made a name for herself.

:08:10.:08:14.

has just carried on from the Olympics. As soon as there was the

:08:14.:08:19.

free kick we said, let Steph Houghton have it. Be keeper can be

:08:19.:08:23.

quite inconsistent. She can be fantastic or she makes mistakes and

:08:23.:08:28.

that mistake was the catalyst for us to start playing. After staff's

:08:28.:08:33.

goal I thought we started to play better and better. The that was a

:08:33.:08:43.
:08:43.:08:44.

weakness in the squad. She is not the biggest in the frame. She does

:08:44.:08:49.

like to come out of her area and she has given us that free kick

:08:49.:08:52.

there. I don't think any person wants to get their head on

:08:52.:08:57.

something like that. We expected a reaction from France but then

:08:57.:09:01.

England went and scored a second goal. It was a very good goal. I

:09:02.:09:04.

tell you what, Sue Smith, England have been crying out for a decent

:09:05.:09:10.

left wing of for years. We have got Rachel Yankey, fabulous ball into

:09:10.:09:20.

Jill Scott. She has passed it out to Rachel. Gill made a good forward

:09:20.:09:25.

run, two defenders and Ellen is up there with her. They are both good

:09:25.:09:30.

headers of the ball. Gill scored against them in the World Cup in

:09:30.:09:35.

2011. I think because France are playing so compact in the midfield,

:09:35.:09:41.

we need to get the ball out wide to the likes of Richard Yankey and

:09:41.:09:48.

Eniola Aluko. Ellen White can head the ball -- Rachel Yankey. To do

:09:48.:09:58.
:09:58.:10:05.

for those two goals, there was a That was a vital clearance. Alex

:10:05.:10:14.

did not track and a summer's run there. She has gone back and

:10:14.:10:22.

protected the goal. She had been so keep, Eugenie Le Sommer. We thought

:10:22.:10:29.

she might have scored. She was very lively. She seems to get just a

:10:29.:10:34.

little yard of space and Take That were shot here. A fantastic touch.

:10:34.:10:40.

You can see the players do not know whether to come to her or to back

:10:40.:10:47.

off. The good thing about terror as well as from a defensive point of

:10:47.:10:54.

view, she likes to join in and come in narrow. As a centre half, if you

:10:54.:10:57.

have got three players to mark, it is hard. She is in a central role

:10:58.:11:03.

here as well. That shows a confident striker when they shoot

:11:03.:11:08.

outside the box like that with a left or right foot. I think we have

:11:08.:11:12.

to mention Karen Bardsley. She has kept us in the game with some

:11:12.:11:20.

punches and vital saves. As many of u-net -- as many of you know, St

:11:20.:11:25.

George's Park is the new England national football centre. The

:11:25.:11:29.

centre was officially opened this month and is now the state of the

:11:29.:11:36.

art base for 24 teams including England's female squads. Earlier,

:11:36.:11:41.

Casey Stoney was invited back to Burton to take a look at the

:11:41.:11:45.

impressive facilities. It is a fantastic facility,

:11:45.:11:49.

everything is here, everything you could possibly need. It could take

:11:49.:11:54.

the country to a whole new level. This is our rehabilitation gin-

:11:54.:11:59.

soaked people who come here to stay for a few days or even a few weeks

:11:59.:12:03.

for residential rehabilitation of an injury or operation can come and

:12:03.:12:08.

use this facility and then we can use it. We keep them busy all day

:12:08.:12:15.

and working on various bits of equipment. This Is Our anti-gravity

:12:15.:12:19.

treadmill. If you did not want to put your full body weight through

:12:19.:12:24.

your joints as you are running, you can run on this treadmill. You can

:12:24.:12:29.

run from anything from 100 % to 20 % of your body weight. I will give

:12:29.:12:39.

it a go! I like it. I have had an ongoing problem for two years with

:12:39.:12:44.

Mike Achilles so to be able to run pain free with no weight is

:12:44.:12:50.

fantastic. For medical science is incredible. Some of the machines, I

:12:50.:12:55.

did not even know what they were four. There have been explained to

:12:55.:13:02.

us. A lot of it is injury prevention or post rehab. I am

:13:02.:13:08.

hoping to stay out of that room. It inspires you to want to train here

:13:08.:13:16.

and do well here. This is the elite pitch here at St

:13:16.:13:22.

George's Park. All of them are fantastic. The pitch dimensions,

:13:22.:13:28.

the grass laying, it is like Wembley so when the guys play there

:13:28.:13:33.

and the girls play there again it is exactly the same. For the first

:13:33.:13:37.

time, we have probably got the same equality of the men, we trained on

:13:37.:13:41.

the same pictures and have access to the same facilities, so to be

:13:41.:13:45.

able to train here is fantastic. It bodes well for good football and

:13:45.:13:49.

good training. I think it is about making that difference. We always

:13:49.:13:54.

look for the extra age that we can gain so coming to a facility like

:13:54.:13:57.

this and training prior to a major tournament, it can make that 2%

:13:57.:14:01.

difference, it could mean us getting to the semis aura final

:14:01.:14:11.
:14:11.:14:21.

rather than the quarter-final and Participation is important and

:14:21.:14:25.

keeping girls involved in sport is very important. Having something

:14:25.:14:32.

like this for them to come to will only inspire them further. For me,

:14:32.:14:37.

this has been the best year of my life, without a shadow of a doubt,

:14:37.:14:42.

captaining England, the Olympics, playing in front of 70,000 at

:14:42.:14:46.

Wembley. It doesn't get better than that, but I'm still not happy where

:14:46.:14:52.

I am. I'm not going to sit back and be satisfied, because we have a

:14:52.:14:55.

major tournament next year, and this year has given me more

:14:55.:15:01.

determination than ever to go out there and do something special.

:15:01.:15:06.

A fantastic facility there. I bet you would love to have had that

:15:06.:15:09.

facility when you are coming into the game, not that I'm suggesting

:15:09.:15:13.

your towards the latter stages of your career. Especially with your

:15:13.:15:18.

injuries. Fabulous facilities. Without a doubt, and it's great

:15:18.:15:22.

that we have parity with the men. We are training in the same place

:15:22.:15:26.

they are. Sometimes it's better for us, the fact the men have their

:15:26.:15:29.

clubs where they had those facilities, so it's nice that we

:15:29.:15:34.

can use those treadmills and weights, and they are the best

:15:34.:15:41.

facilities in the world. It's great for us, I think. Do you think it

:15:41.:15:45.

can make a real difference in terms of actual fitness levels and

:15:45.:15:48.

recovery of injuries and performance levels in terms of

:15:48.:15:52.

major tournaments? Definitely, if you have a good lead-up to the

:15:52.:15:56.

major tournaments, and the squad can be together at it facility like

:15:56.:16:00.

that, it's amazing, but it's also important for players to access

:16:00.:16:05.

that when they are injured, as well, because it does vary different

:16:05.:16:11.

league, the care the players get at their clubs. If the girls can use

:16:11.:16:15.

that facility more often, rather than five days before again, I

:16:15.:16:20.

think it would be beneficial. it make them feel more professional,

:16:20.:16:25.

as well? Because the women's game is more of a semi-professional

:16:25.:16:32.

thing? Yes, injury prevention is a massive thing. It could help you

:16:32.:16:37.

and get you back playing a lot quicker. Of course, you want to

:16:37.:16:42.

feel professional. The more training you can do, the better the

:16:42.:16:49.

game will become. OK. Well, a great facility for that future of England

:16:49.:16:52.

international football, but let's talk about Scotland now because

:16:52.:16:55.

there was another important international happening north of

:16:55.:17:02.

the border today at Hampden Park, in fact, as Scotland finished

:17:02.:17:06.

second to France in the qualifying group and this was a first leg

:17:06.:17:16.
:17:16.:17:25.

from a Little. You would never have expected her to miss that. That was

:17:25.:17:29.

in the 24th minute. Then Martin, from Chelsea, equalised after a

:17:29.:17:38.

mistake. It was 1-1, it finished, despite the fact Spain had a

:17:38.:17:48.
:17:48.:17:59.

once again a step up to take the penalty. A superb double save by

:17:59.:18:05.

sue Smith's former Leeds United team-mate. So, confirmation of that

:18:05.:18:15.
:18:15.:18:22.

A pretty typical draw for Scotland to be drawn again Spain. Do you see

:18:22.:18:27.

1-1 going to Spain next Wednesday? Is it enough? Judging by the

:18:27.:18:33.

expression on your face, I think... It will be difficult for them to go

:18:33.:18:39.

to Spain. Anybody expects Spain to get a result but Scotland put up a

:18:39.:18:44.

fantastic performance. And Gemma, despite a mistake, had a really,

:18:44.:18:49.

really good game. Hopefully, fingers crossed, they can go to

:18:49.:18:52.

Spain and get a result because there would be nice to see Scotland

:18:52.:18:58.

go through, as well. It would be superb to have a two home nations.

:18:58.:19:03.

Men's or women's. You know Kim Little, who we saw at the Olympics

:19:03.:19:09.

and Jenifer Beattie, quality players. Scotland are an emerging

:19:09.:19:12.

nation, getting better. France won their group for the qualifying

:19:12.:19:17.

easier, and Wales, Scotland and Ireland were in that group as well

:19:17.:19:22.

so it was a tough one. So they are the next best team in that group so

:19:22.:19:26.

it was a harder draw for them to get Spain rather than a Ukraine or

:19:26.:19:31.

Iceland. They would have been easier for them. They would have

:19:31.:19:36.

gone through them up, I think. Spain are a strong team and you

:19:36.:19:40.

would expect them to be favourites. The second half now of this

:19:40.:19:45.

enthralling match in Paris, which England are leading by 2-0, despite

:19:45.:19:50.

the fact that France outplayed them for the first half. What are you

:19:50.:19:54.

expecting now? I don't think she will make any substitutions to

:19:54.:20:01.

begin with and then hopefully we will see Jordan Nobbs and Toni

:20:01.:20:05.

Duggan come on. They have had good seasons for their Super League

:20:05.:20:13.

teams. Do you think Hope is thinking it's a chance by heard to

:20:13.:20:20.

blood some of those youngsters? -- it's a chance for Hope drew blood

:20:20.:20:30.
:20:30.:20:35.

some of those youngsters? She will tell them to do their best. Elodie

:20:35.:20:40.

Thomis is coming out in the second half. That will be interesting.

:20:40.:20:50.
:20:50.:20:53.

she's a great player. Back to the Thomis will give people in the

:20:53.:20:56.

quarter-final some bad memories because she came on and helped to

:20:56.:21:01.

change that game and Hope Powell had to make changes to combat that.

:21:01.:21:07.

It didn't really work on that day. It's an indication that the French

:21:07.:21:10.

coach wants to win this game or get something out of it, because he

:21:10.:21:15.

will be bitterly disappointed to see his team that dominate the game

:21:15.:21:22.

so much and then fall two goals behind just before half-time.

:21:22.:21:26.

team dominated and then they were sucker-punch to at the end of the

:21:26.:21:34.

first half. Williams has come on, as well. England also make no

:21:34.:21:38.

change at half-time as well. Fara Williams made way to allow for

:21:38.:21:41.

Ellen White and there is one of the youngsters we were talking about,

:21:41.:21:48.

Toni Duggan, given her opportunity. 45 minutes. Against one of the best

:21:48.:21:53.

teams in the world. Even though Hope Powell is on the verge of what

:21:53.:21:57.

would be a notable result here, she is experimenting, which, in many

:21:57.:22:07.
:22:07.:22:12.

has gone off, along with Gaetane Thiney, so the French are making a

:22:12.:22:22.
:22:22.:22:23.

couple of changes. Camille Catala is the other player to come on for

:22:23.:22:29.

the second half. Her 14th cap, and all of them have come off the bench,

:22:29.:22:34.

so she must be something of an impact player. It is England who

:22:34.:22:44.
:22:44.:22:54.

start here in the second half than they did for much of the first.

:22:54.:23:00.

What is your view on a changes? It's obvious Hope was going to make

:23:01.:23:06.

changes. She probably planned it all the way through perhaps. Toni

:23:06.:23:12.

Duggan is a young player. Fara Williams things she should be

:23:12.:23:16.

playing as well, an England international, so I don't think we

:23:16.:23:18.

will see that much of a change because the effort and motivation

:23:18.:23:24.

will be there to win this match. The two wide players, Rachel Yankey

:23:24.:23:27.

and Eniola Aluko are the ones to make way, so it's possible there

:23:27.:23:32.

will be chains in shape here as well. It looks like Jill Scott has

:23:32.:23:38.

been pushed forward and Karen Carney has gone to the right. I

:23:38.:23:44.

suspect how that is, with Toni Duggan going on the other side.

:23:44.:23:49.

England are looking to build an attack. The shot driven towards

:23:49.:23:53.

goal from Anita Asante and that is the first effort from England which

:23:53.:24:03.
:24:03.:24:04.

has not resulted in a goal. Yes, opportunities in the Olympics to

:24:04.:24:10.

score. But you still did not score. It's not one of their strengths.

:24:10.:24:15.

England supporters her enjoying what they are seeing. Here is Ellen

:24:15.:24:25.
:24:25.:24:26.

White, holding up on a heavy pitch again. Toni Duggan. She eventually

:24:26.:24:33.

comes in with the challenge. Toni Duggan is an exciting player, a

:24:33.:24:38.

quick-play up. She is strong and she hassles defenders and will not

:24:38.:24:48.
:24:48.:24:56.

Beaten to it by Fara Williams who, as Lucy was saying, believes she

:24:56.:25:00.

has a point to prove here having start the match on the bench.

:25:00.:25:06.

she is a quality player, Fara. She's always on the ball. Some of

:25:06.:25:11.

our passes are something other players cannot produce, so she is a

:25:11.:25:15.

positive change for England. Toni Duggan does well to get on the

:25:15.:25:19.

wrong side of Laure Boulleau but the ball runs out for a goal kick

:25:19.:25:23.

but already Toni Duggan showing she is going to give the French some

:25:23.:25:28.

problems here. Yes, she is a young player who wants to show she is

:25:28.:25:32.

good enough to be in this team, which she is. She is a real threat

:25:32.:25:38.

on goal, as well. I expect to see her with some opportunities.

:25:38.:25:43.

had a few moments against Croatia and almost scored a goal, as well.

:25:43.:25:48.

Fortified minutes here against opponents are a far higher calibre.

:25:48.:25:58.
:25:58.:25:58.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:25:58.:26:43.

lightning start to the second half, as she came in from the left on her

:26:43.:26:48.

stronger right foot, but could not get a clean strike away. You can

:26:48.:26:53.

see the confidence from this girl. She knows she is capable of scoring.

:26:54.:26:59.

They have started the second half well, England. Given away. England

:26:59.:27:05.

will be well aware of her pace. Good challenge of from a Casey

:27:05.:27:12.

Stoney. Marie-Laure Delie. Another fantastic block in the area, Anita

:27:12.:27:18.

Asante, this time. Her speed, she just misjudged the bounce of the

:27:18.:27:26.

ball. Delayed the opportunity. Again, Scott gets in the way. If

:27:26.:27:30.

she can't get herself in front of that, it would have been a goal. A

:27:30.:27:36.

tremendous strike. Second important clearance from Alex got inside the

:27:36.:27:41.

area. The French are still looking dangerous here. Karen Carney with

:27:41.:27:51.
:27:51.:28:25.

deep again. But the French are finding it much harder at the

:28:25.:28:29.

moment to get in between the English lines. Yes, they seem to

:28:29.:28:39.
:28:39.:29:00.

have pushed the game on five yards inside the area. My first look, I

:29:00.:29:10.
:29:10.:29:10.

would have said that was a penalty. A let-off for Casey Stoney. That is

:29:10.:29:15.

what you do, you protest your innocence. They get away with it.

:29:15.:29:21.

It could have been a penalty for the hold. They are riding their

:29:21.:29:31.
:29:31.:29:35.

luck so far in this game. The side to make this match a contest

:29:36.:29:45.
:29:46.:29:58.

even though they conceded the corner. They were rather fortunate

:29:58.:30:08.
:30:08.:30:08.

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 47 seconds

:30:08.:31:32.

chances. That was goodbye Thomis, she opened up a little bit of a

:31:32.:31:36.

space but the shot was not on target. England are getting

:31:36.:31:46.
:31:46.:31:56.

threat going forwards in the second half. If you have just joined us,

:31:56.:32:01.

they were largely outplayed in the opening 45 minutes but scored two

:32:01.:32:05.

goals in five minutes. Steph Houghton with a thunderous free

:32:05.:32:15.
:32:15.:32:41.

kick and Jill Scott with an equally It is their style to always try and

:32:41.:32:51.
:32:51.:32:59.

here does remain rather sticky. This stadium is usually used for

:32:59.:33:05.

rugby union. Stade Francais were using it as their home ground while

:33:05.:33:11.

a new stadium is being built. It was double-booked. Because this

:33:11.:33:21.
:33:21.:33:21.

game is being played, at the rugby game has moved north. You must have

:33:21.:33:25.

found on your career, when you play on a rugby pitch it makes a

:33:25.:33:29.

difference? It does. It is a bit heavy and with all this rain, it

:33:29.:33:34.

will be a lot heavier. There will be a few tired legs out there in

:33:34.:33:40.

the next 20 minutes also. There will be few more changes. Hope is

:33:40.:33:45.

happy with what her team has done. She has introduced new players at

:33:45.:33:55.
:33:55.:34:03.

half-time and England have looked her team forward and they win the

:34:03.:34:10.

free kick -- Hope Powell is in the background. Jill Scott is so strong

:34:10.:34:14.

and athletic. If you give it a bit more freedom and let Fara Williams

and Anita Asante sit, it gives a little bit extra going forward.

The inexperience of Toni Duggan giving the French a gulp. -- giving

:35:08.:35:15.

the French a goal. Just when it seemed England were in control, the

:35:15.:35:22.

French have made it 2-1. The pitch just held it up. As a keeper you

:35:22.:35:29.

have got to go through strong and take the ball. She will not score

:35:29.:35:34.

an easy one than that. It is a shame because they have done really

:35:34.:35:39.

well this half, England. Under any normal circumstances, that back-

:35:39.:35:43.

pass would have reached but it has not and it has put England under

:35:43.:35:53.
:35:53.:36:03.

Delie's goals. She has got to keep going, Toni Duggan, it is one of

:36:03.:36:11.

those things. When it left her foot, it was going but the pitch put paid

:36:12.:36:21.
:36:22.:36:30.

the balls of target. England have got a lot better at this at recent

:36:30.:36:34.

times. If you do concede at international level, you have just

:36:34.:36:41.

got to keep going. In the second half they are a lot better in terms

:36:41.:36:46.

of possession. They just have to keep doing what they are doing.

:36:46.:36:50.

is ironic that the goal came at a time when England were playing

:36:50.:36:54.

their best spell of football in the match, in terms of controlled

:36:54.:37:04.
:37:04.:37:17.

equaliser. I think I said in the first half, the third goal in this

:37:17.:37:23.

game was important. The French get it and put England under pressure.

:37:23.:37:33.
:37:33.:38:06.

Sophie Bradley. This could be a long second half for England.

:38:06.:38:09.

Rather than building on their lead, they may be looking to hold on to

was a good save from Karen Bardsley. England are all over the place.

:38:45.:38:50.

England could not get rid of the ball. Casey Stoney trite, Sophie

:38:50.:38:54.

Bradley tried, great save from Karen Bardsley. She was expecting

:38:54.:38:59.

the ball to go the other way. There was so difficult for them to get on

:38:59.:39:06.

the end of it. The French bench knew how close they were 20

in a big game and going to having 0 up and having to soak up the

:39:22.:39:30.

pressure of the first half. All of these are good experiences.

:39:30.:39:40.

:40:16.:40:38.

is given away but England get the free kick. That was not a good ball

:40:38.:40:42.

played into Fara Williams in the first place. It meant she had to

:40:42.:40:48.

step on to one leg. That was not a big challenge. Bent her ankle in a

:40:48.:40:53.

little bit. She seems to be all right. Given a ball like that,

:40:53.:40:59.

sometimes it is a challenge you end up with. That was reckless which is

:40:59.:41:04.

why the free kick was given. service like this enables players

bit wide from Toni Duggan in the end. Better for England going

Elodie Thomis there, we talk about whether players should go down,

diving, and had she gone down for Steph Houghton's Challenge, she

would probably have got a penalty. Sometimes you would prefer the

:53:14.:53:20.

Marie-Laure Delie, this time, unable to find the target. She is a

get the change in direction and the power on the ball as she came

:53:29.:53:34.

across. She has had critics and the pass as a wide player who used his

look as though they have the same impetus they had before but, having

said that, they scored the equaliser. That's another strange

:58:36.:58:40.

goal which looked at the rentable from England's point of view.

:58:40.:58:47.

look at that. All the work the French have done. We have gifted

:58:47.:58:52.

than two goals and they have brought themselves back into it. It

:58:52.:58:54.

is good communication between the centre halves and the goalkeeper

:58:54.:58:58.

and, in the end, it just beats Siobhan Chamberlain. She will not

:58:58.:59:04.

be happy with that. One or other of the goalkeeper is needed to go for

:59:04.:59:09.

that and it's a shame, because the French deserved the balance of play,

:59:09.:59:14.

to be equal, but, in terms of the chances they created, not at all

:59:14.:59:19.

and England have gifted them two goals. And that was the

:59:20.:59:25.

commentators curse, but it was such a simple goal. Marie-Laure Delie

has brought them back into the game and now England must try and hold

on to try to get at least a draw Chamberlain. She is arguably the

best goalkeeper in the WSL this season. You make mistakes between

the sort of games. It is also about ironing out the lack of

:00:16.:00:21.

communication and those sort of errors. Absolutely. Hope Powell

:00:21.:00:26.

will be happy that she has got the players from the substitute's bench

:00:26.:00:29.

onto the pitch that she has and that is what she's using this game

:00:29.:00:39.
:00:39.:00:43.

for. We hope the players will learn the game when it seemed like

:00:43.:00:51.

England were in control and they give the ball away again. Delie is

it is a friendly, but if you get November 9th for the European

:04:31.:04:37.

Championship finals. Meilleroux goes tumbling. I think Alex Scott's

body language says it all. I do not think that was quite as bad. He was

:04:45.:04:55.
:04:55.:05:15.

not as bad as three roles would result for England, they also know

:05:15.:05:18.

they have been up against them in terms of possession for much of the

:05:18.:05:28.
:05:28.:05:45.

against Germany or Italy in the finals, they need to learn from

:05:45.:05:51.

occasions such as tonight. Yes, they do, and I think they well as

:05:51.:05:57.

well. The substitutes may have made a difference, I'm not sure. I do

:05:58.:06:04.

think overall tonight, England have put on a really good performance.

:06:04.:06:11.

There are still pits which Hope will be really pleased. They can

:06:11.:06:16.

look back on to really good goals. But I'm sure they will also look at

:06:16.:06:26.

to win this game. Chamberlain had the opportunity to catch and went

:06:33.:06:43.

They are ending the game as they started it here. There was nobody

:09:08.:09:18.
:09:18.:09:27.

it was. Now they have to try and combined there. Both teams are

:09:27.:09:31.

tiring. Possibly because of the conditions but it has been a high-

:09:31.:09:41.
:09:41.:09:53.

intensity game. They are making time to take it. England will leave

:09:53.:10:00.

Paris with a draw in the end. Honour is satisfied between the two

:10:00.:10:07.

coaches. It looked so good for England in the first half. The two

:10:07.:10:11.

first-half goals from Steph Houghton and Jill Scott but errors

:10:11.:10:18.

in the second half allowed Marie- Laure Delie to equalise, the second

:10:18.:10:23.

goal coming with eight minutes to play. England start their build-up

:10:23.:10:27.

to Euro 2013 with a result which will look very good around the

:10:27.:10:31.

world of women's football. They may leave here believing it could have

:10:31.:10:41.
:10:41.:10:43.

been better. Full-time, France, too, England might have been delighted

:10:43.:10:53.

with the prospect of a 2-all draw in France. But it was 2-0 up.

:10:53.:10:57.

like we are destined never to beat France. We went 2-0 up and I

:10:57.:11:02.

thought, this could be our time. In the second half, France at times

:11:02.:11:06.

dominated but we played some nice football as well. It just seems to

:11:06.:11:11.

be we cannot get that result. I think they have got a lot of

:11:11.:11:14.

positives to take from the game today and I think they can move

:11:14.:11:18.

that onto the Euros next year and things like that. You cannot help

:11:18.:11:23.

thinking, Faye, that what might have been if the changes hadn't

:11:23.:11:27.

been made but friendlies are there to give players minutes on the

:11:27.:11:31.

pitch and experience for the major tournaments? Yes, it is obviously

:11:31.:11:37.

balancing what she wants to get out of the game. It seems like the

:11:37.:11:40.

first 45 minutes is the strongest available and then looked to give

:11:40.:11:43.

experience. You could go into a major tournament with the likes of

:11:43.:11:48.

Karen Bardsley or Kelly Smith and other players not available. Those

:11:48.:11:53.

players who often on the bench need have time in big games and

:11:53.:11:58.

competitive games like that. It is unfortunate because we wanted

:11:58.:12:02.

England to beat France, I certainly did, my history with France! I

:12:02.:12:07.

think they did control the game a lot more than we did. Obviously, we

:12:07.:12:13.

were away from home anyway. To go two girls up was really positive.

:12:13.:12:18.

You have to make the chances and take them when you do. We did that

:12:18.:12:23.

in the first half. It is just areas and changes of substitutes. Sloppy

:12:23.:12:30.

errors and not making the right decisions that we needed to do.

:12:31.:12:33.

think when you make the substitutions, it does change the

:12:34.:12:39.

dynamics of the team. It can affect the way that you play a little bit.

:12:39.:12:43.

Let's have a look at the two France goals in the second half.

:12:43.:12:46.

Substitute Toni Duggan will not want to see this again that she

:12:46.:12:56.
:12:56.:12:58.

the ball. Shoe can turn and maybe face Ford when Anita Asante is

:12:58.:13:04.

right next to her but Sheikh elect to play back not realising that

:13:04.:13:12.

Delie was in that position. Delie is a predator. She has scored 41

:13:12.:13:17.

goals in 49 matches. You do not give her chances like this. Here,

:13:17.:13:22.

Laura Bassett needed to go and attack the ball. She was running

:13:22.:13:27.

back to have a goal but she allows Delie to nip in front and then

:13:27.:13:30.

Siobhan Chamberlain in his in no- man's land because it was not

:13:30.:13:35.

coming forward to have. Delie is a predatory striker. She is someone

:13:35.:13:39.

who will make things happen and that is what she did on both of

:13:39.:13:44.

those. She made it difficult for the defender. To make it 2-2, we

:13:44.:13:50.

were thinking, can we get a third and change that? We have never beat

:13:50.:14:00.
:14:00.:14:17.

There was some fantastic defending. at using her body to make a bit of

:14:17.:14:22.

space. She is a strong player and she gets shoved off the ball but

:14:22.:14:28.

Alex saw the danger and got in the way again. Talking about defending,

:14:28.:14:32.

Captain Casey Stoney may have had their heart a them out at one point

:14:32.:14:37.

when Marie-Laure Delie got on the wrong side of her. Was there is a

:14:37.:14:46.

penalty? Yes, I think we spoke about how well the French do this.

:14:46.:14:51.

She is holding her a little bit. I know we are sticking up for Casey

:14:51.:14:54.

Stoney here but I think she will admit it was a penalty. We were

:14:54.:15:02.

lucky. Usually you can tell by the players' reaction, can't you?

:15:02.:15:07.

don't think Karen Bardsley, substituted, we don't think there

:15:07.:15:12.

was an injury. She was very solid for England all evening, pulling

:15:12.:15:17.

off some very good saves. Eugenie Le Sommer had some efforts on goal.

:15:17.:15:23.

How much does that breed confidence in defence? Hugely. She has a good

:15:23.:15:28.

frame. She can reach those areas high up which has often been a

:15:28.:15:34.

problem for women goalkeepers because of her size. She is so

:15:34.:15:38.

agile. She can really spread her frame across the goal and has made

:15:38.:15:48.
:15:48.:15:49.

some good saves to keep us with a More analysis to, but our reporter

:15:49.:15:55.

is now here with Hope Powell. were talking before the match about

:15:55.:15:59.

how much of a challenge this was going to be. Are you disappointed

:15:59.:16:04.

they gave away the lead? Yes, somewhat. Two goals in front at

:16:04.:16:08.

half-time, we didn't play particularly well in the first half

:16:08.:16:13.

and in the second half, we played better but gave it the two goals,

:16:13.:16:19.

to be honest. So, in that respect, disappointed. We made some changes

:16:19.:16:23.

and the team still jailed in patches so it gave me an

:16:23.:16:28.

opportunity to look at some players are so, a good contest. There were

:16:28.:16:32.

defensive errors which led to the two goals. Those mistakes are

:16:32.:16:38.

costly, aren't they? Lessons learned. It's the start of the Euro

:16:38.:16:43.

2013 build up. It would have been good to go into the break over

:16:43.:16:48.

Christmas with a victory. The good thing is we did not lose. We played

:16:48.:16:50.

well particularly in the second half and came out with more

:16:51.:16:58.

confidence. I have a very good side. They only made two changes and we

:16:58.:17:02.

made several. More positive than negative, to be honest. You have

:17:02.:17:07.

learned more about the team for next year? Absolutely, you have got

:17:07.:17:12.

to try different things, players in different positions. Most players

:17:12.:17:16.

made a good account of themselves. A really good contest the season.

:17:16.:17:25.

Thank you. Plenty of positive Hope Powell is taking out of that. No

:17:25.:17:30.

win in a 12 against France but this is about the build-up to Euro 2013

:17:30.:17:35.

in the Sweden next summer so what other positives specifically were

:17:35.:17:39.

there from an England point of view? I think our team are good

:17:39.:17:45.

enough and we have more strength and depth now. Toni Duggan, she did

:17:45.:17:50.

very well and did not let her head drop after the mistake for the

:17:50.:17:55.

first goal. She still tried to take players on which is her strength.

:17:55.:18:05.
:18:05.:18:07.

with her right foot, she's done that a lot. She shouldn't be too

:18:07.:18:13.

downhearted. As a young player, you do make mistakes. I made plenty. In

:18:13.:18:20.

games like that, it's not so much of a big problem. It was nice to

:18:20.:18:25.

see the mental strength. Despite the mistake early on, she still

:18:25.:18:30.

created things going for it. That was a fantastic shot. She does it

:18:30.:18:34.

for Everton week in week out and it to bring that internationally, it's

:18:34.:18:41.

great to see. Let's hear more from Paris with the captain Casey Stoney

:18:41.:18:51.
:18:51.:18:58.

Thanks. I have got Casey Stoney and Alex Scott with me. A shame that

:18:58.:19:02.

those defensive errors caused a draw rather than a victory. Yes, I

:19:02.:19:08.

think so. We have given them two goals when it was unneccesary,

:19:08.:19:13.

really. They wear a good side and I thought we did well in all areas of

:19:13.:19:17.

the pitch up until those two goals and you can't do that in

:19:17.:19:21.

international football because you will get punished. The first goal

:19:21.:19:26.

speaks for itself and I know Toni will be disappointed but she should

:19:26.:19:32.

be proud of herself tonight. It's a learning curve of for all of us.

:19:32.:19:36.

was particularly tough in defence, wasn't it? Yes, and there's lessons

:19:36.:19:42.

we need to learn. If we can keep the ball better, we will do well.

:19:42.:19:48.

It's been a great year, qualifying for the Euros and we have got a lot

:19:48.:19:52.

to look forward to. You've already qualified, along with France for

:19:52.:19:56.

next year, but you seem to have a problem with the beating France.

:19:56.:20:02.

Yes, a stumbling block, but going in at half-time 2-0, we have never

:20:02.:20:07.

done that before and we know we gave them two goals today. They did

:20:07.:20:12.

not earn them. The girls should be proud. They defended well. It was

:20:12.:20:16.

great to see the younger players getting a chance to play. The last

:20:16.:20:20.

game internationally this year. It would have been good to go in with

:20:21.:20:25.

a victory to end the year. Definitely, but this of the kind of

:20:25.:20:29.

opposition we want to play. When you get to the late stages in

:20:29.:20:33.

tournaments, this is what you come up against. We have got to take the

:20:33.:20:39.

positive. For the players to get on the pitch and for Hope to look at

:20:39.:20:49.
:20:49.:20:49.

them, it's great. Thank you very much. Casey Stoney, very harsh on

:20:49.:20:53.

herself and blaming herself a little bit too much. Is that

:20:53.:20:59.

something you do, defenders? As a defender, you always think what

:20:59.:21:05.

part did I play? My job is to stop goals. Karen Bardsley as well will

:21:05.:21:09.

be disappointed she left one end, even though it was not her fault.

:21:09.:21:14.

Many players will Self criticise themselves and that's the way you

:21:14.:21:18.

learn. You look at feed back of your own game and also as a team,

:21:18.:21:23.

as well. It's important to do that but not be too hard on yourself.

:21:23.:21:27.

It's the only way you learn by taking positive criticism from the

:21:27.:21:32.

coaches. That is something we have learned a lot from. We watch

:21:32.:21:36.

ourselves back on video and we see what we could do better and that

:21:36.:21:42.

helps us in the next game, so Casey Stoney is so hard on herself but

:21:42.:21:46.

had a fantastic game today so should be proud but it's nice to

:21:46.:21:50.

see she's learning those lessons. England where booked their place in

:21:50.:21:55.

Sweden for the finals in 2013 but Scotland are involved in a

:21:55.:21:59.

difficult play-off against Spain, the first leg taking plays at

:21:59.:22:09.
:22:09.:22:10.

Hampden Park this afternoon. Here's chance, well saved by the

:22:10.:22:17.

goalkeeper but Scotland had a penalty which was scored by Arsenal,

:22:17.:22:23.

Scotland and Great Britain's Kim Little. Never in doubt after this

:22:23.:22:30.

handball for Spain. It was free empty -- entry today. A crowd of

:22:30.:22:34.

over 4,000 when there was that full programme of Scottish football.

:22:34.:22:40.

Then the ball got put away by the Chelsea striker, Adrianna. She had

:22:40.:22:47.

the chance to win the match for the visitors, Spain. If that was a

:22:47.:22:57.
:22:57.:22:58.

mistake, then there was a penalty for handball Adriano took herself.

:22:58.:23:05.

Gemma Fay, a double save, in fact, as Scotland drew 1-1 at the end of

:23:05.:23:11.

that match going into next Wednesday's second leg in Madrid.

:23:11.:23:14.

It would be fantastic to have two home nations that Sweden next

:23:14.:23:24.
:23:24.:23:30.

summer. Plenty of work for them to What would it mean for the

:23:30.:23:33.

development of Scottish football for them to make a major

:23:33.:23:38.

tournament? That's exactly what they are aiming for. They are

:23:38.:23:42.

developing, getting better, and we have played them a few times in

:23:42.:23:47.

friendly tournaments, and you can see the development from them. A

:23:47.:23:51.

lot of them play in the Superleague with us and we see them week-in,

:23:51.:23:55.

week-out, and playing with Arsenal and Everton, you can see they are

:23:55.:23:59.

getting better and you can see by the results today against Spain,

:23:59.:24:03.

you would never have thought they would have a draw with them at six

:24:03.:24:07.

years ago. Hopefully they can qualify. Briefly, they have a

:24:07.:24:17.

couple of very good players in the Great Britain squad in the summer.

:24:17.:24:21.

She had an amazing first few games. You don't like to see anybody

:24:21.:24:26.

injured. She was calm and composed and has the experience from playing

:24:26.:24:33.

in America, as well. Herself and Kim Little are the main bulk of the

:24:33.:24:38.

team right now. They have got a good future and hopefully they can

:24:38.:24:43.

do it. A good future but you want them to be at the Euros next summer.

:24:43.:24:51.

You can't make up that experience anywhere else other than by playing.

:24:51.:24:55.

Not just in qualifiers. The of course, the big teams come out of

:24:55.:25:00.

themselves, Germany, maybe they will have a dodgy few games but, as

:25:00.:25:04.

soon as it's a big tournament, they step up to the challenge and they

:25:04.:25:09.

always up there. France can do it as well. That's what the likes of

:25:09.:25:13.

England and Scotland need to do in the big tournaments. 1-1 going into

:25:13.:25:17.

the second leg on Wednesday night. This being the first Saturday after

:25:18.:25:21.

the international break in the men's game, the Premier League is

:25:21.:25:24.

back in business and has plenty more football to enjoy here on the

:25:24.:25:30.

BBC. We had a superb Match Of The Day for you tonight. Eight exciting

:25:30.:25:34.

games with bundles of goals, real theatre and a sprinkling of

:25:34.:25:39.

controversy. Much to discuss for Harry Redknapp and Alan Shearer.

:25:40.:25:44.

Joiners on BBC One at 10:30pm. You will not regret it. I might be home

:25:44.:25:50.

in time. Final thoughts? I think we have got to take the positive from

:25:50.:25:58.

tonight. We have got a good result in the end, a few errors let them

:25:58.:26:03.

back in unfortunately. Knowing how far a Hope Powell is, she would go

:26:03.:26:08.

through those DVDs with a fine- tooth comb. Tonight was always

:26:08.:26:11.

going to be a pretty severe test against one of the world's very top

:26:11.:26:17.

nations. And so it proved. England were 2-0 up in a Paris but could

:26:17.:26:21.
