Confederations Cup in Brazil. Entering the fray tonight are Spain.

They face Uruguay, the last team to win the World Cup on Brazilian soil.

Both sides line up in Group B alongside Nigeria and Tahiti, who

play tomorrow. Here to enjoy it with us are Gus Poyet and Alan Shearer.

This promises much. Uruguay have slipped a bit from the glories of

recent years. They are struggling to qualify for the World Cup. The hopes

hasn't already been said. They are a magnificent team with some wonderful

players. And a genius of a manager. Wherever they go, they take a strong

side and a strong squad. They always try to win. The problem for them,

Gus, is if it is not going well, they haven't got much strength on

the bench. We have Villa, Torres, Mata - none of them can get in the

side! It is incredible. It is a game that everyone wants to play in. It

is an amazing game. They are going with a centre forward. Soldado is

playing up front? We have watched them in the past. They have

reinvented this new system no forwards. Pleased to see they have

really think it matters what Luis Suarez does on the pitch in the

Confederations Cup. Everybody knows he is a wonderful football player.

He is a liability, too! This won't just get him a move. I think he can

already get that himself. Manchester City tried to sign Edinson Cavani,

how good is he? He is very good. He is trying to get Cavani, Suarez and

Forlan in the team. That has been a problem. Enjoy it. Cavani and Suarez

fantastic. When you give chances to a player like Pirlo, you have a

Very odd. The other thing that could have changed things, Alan, is the

penalty that Mexico had. It should have been a red card? 100% should

have been a red card. Good pressure from the forward. That is a

the finest sides the world has ever seen. The idea of Spain as anything

other than the world beaters they are today seams so surreal. It

wasn't always the case. European and civil conflict stunted their early

growth. Their first trophy was won on home soil at the European

Championships in 1964. 4 4 years would follow -- 44 years would

follow before another title. Spain won Euro 2008. Only a shock defeat

in the 2009 Confederations Cup knocked them off their stride. They

recovered and lifted their first-ever World Cup in South

Africa. Spain are the Kings of world football Another European crown

followed in Kiev. So can they do the unthinkable and make it four in a

row next year? They have to be the team to beat. An extraordinary stat

- did you realise a side from Argentina, Spain have never lost to

players, apart from Soldado, the players have always been playing

that style of football. It will be interesting to see how they England

were the last team to beat them. That's 20-odd games ago as well.

When we outplayed them at Wembley? He's had a difficult season. He's

not played for months in the league. He never got back in the team and

never played for Madrid again. The most capped player - 140-odd caps.

And the captain as well. People in Spain were trying to convince the

manager to bring him back. They want to see him playing again. Talking

about Xavi, is there any sign the Spanish team has been found out?

Could be. The problem is I have been watching a little bit of the Under

21s and there are a few coming through. They suit the style of the

team. I am sure they will find people. You can speak about Madrid

and Barcelona's failure in the Champions League, but there is no

evidence to suggest that this Spanish side here is on the wane.

20-odd games unbeaten. They are still the team to beat. They are so

good to watch. It is always a pleasure to watch. John said

earlier, "I'm going to sit and watch this game, rather than travel home

in the car." You can understand that. They have gotta pull. Everyone

just love loves learning and watching the way they play, the way

they handle the football. They are comfortable on the ball. Everybody

wants to enjoy playing. Everybody is pulling to perform. A big test for

your boys. As for Uruguay, their Copa America title was their first

in 16 years following an impressive World Cup campaign in South Africa.

Here is Dan's look at La Celeste. One of four World Cup winners

present, Uruguay's star quality outweighs their consistency. 100

years ago, they were one of the strongest nations in the world. They

featured in the first international match that didn't involve a British

team. They lost that, but made up for it by winning the inaugural

World Cup in 1930, taking revenge on Argentina in the final. A second

World Cup was won in 1950, right here in Brazil. By 1970, they had 11

Copa America titles and had reached two more World Cup semifinals. Then

three more Copas in 30 years, so they lacked bite. Which brings us to

their current strike force of Luis Suarez and Diego Forlan. The pair

happen to be the two highest scorers in Uruguay's history. With Forlan

just edging it. Uruguay reached another World Cup semifinal in South

Africa, but qualification for Brazil next summer remains in the balance.

Success here could be a huge boost to morale.

The Uruguayan side, how do you think they will line up? I mean, it will

be interesting to see the position of Cavani. In the past, when Cavani,

Forlan and Suarez play together, Cavani did a bit of work

defensively. Forlan and Suarez stay up front. Depending on the position

of Cavani, if it is going to be that system, or perhaps they will go with

a 4-5-1. I saw a quote from Suarez, he was talking about - he thinks

he's seen a weakness in Spain that they tend to leave the wide areas.

It will be interesting to see. It is about timing. It is about risking

that ball. That is the problem with playing against this great Spanish

side. You know, even before you go into the game, that you will not

have as much of the ball as they are. What about Suarez, as a player,

wonderful talent. He wants to leave Liverpool now. You would expect he

will go? I would be surprised if we saw him in a Liverpool shirt again.

I wouldn't have thought Liverpool fans would want to hear anyone say

that. He is a wonderful talent. A question mark over his temperament.

That is no different to when he arrived from Ajax. That was the same

question mark. It h be the same question mark whether he stays or

goes. What do they think of him in Uruguay? Is he a hero? It is a

problem. In general, he's seen as a hero. It is his mentality. It is

difficult to explain it. What he done in the World Cup with the

handball, with the save. He put himself for the team. He missed the

semifinal of the World Cup. You are not going to change him. If you want

Suarez to perform, you need to accept him. If you don't accept him,

fair enough. It is a big decision to make. He will be chomping at the bit

today! How long did it take you to work that one out? It is a good

save. He got hammered for this. He took one for the team. I think most

players in that position... It was more the attitude after when he was

cheering... Look at the player. He tries to save it as well. It is this

moment that grated. You do it for that reason. Look at the reaction

from the other player. How do you see this game panning out, Alan?

Without - I see Spain having the vast majority of the play. I would

expect Spain to win this game. I will be fascinated to see what

system Uruguay start with, whether they try and get people behind the

ball, or whether because of their forward talent of Suarez, whether

they can think they can score goals. I suppose having a proper striker

there, a guy who has scored 30 goals this season, it gives Uruguay

something else to think about. There are less numbers in that midfield

area to preoccupy you? They will work hard and pass the ball. They

will not leave that space ever. They will stay there. That is the way

Uruguay play. When Forlan was included, it was a 4-3 solid and

give it to them. You perform, you score the goals, we work for you.

Now it is only two plus Ramirez. We will see where they are going to

play. If Ramirez is off the the front. Might they be a bit

aggressive? Never! We have never seen that before(!) Can they get a

result? They will try. Uruguay will never give up. It will be something

Pernambuco is a �172 million brand-new stadium. It's been built

to generate economic growth in a deprived area of shantytown

districts. It isn't full. It holds 46,000. The locals have come to see

him and the rest of the Spanish World Cup and European

Championship-winning stars. Ticket prices locally range from �17 to

nearly 70 quid. That is a week's pay for many people here. The stadium

isn't fully finished, or furnished. Some of the concrete has only dried

in the last two days. The fans don't mind that. They have come to see

some game of football. Spain beat Uruguay 3-1 in a friendly in

February. Uruguay have never beaten them by the way. In major

competition, in the two games they have played, they haven't lost

against them either. Of course, as always, we wait for the two anthems

Euro 2012. They are unbeaten in 22 games, Spain. Unbeaten in 25

competitive matches going back to the World Cup Finals when the Swiss

beat them, you will remember. They this year has been the emergence of

Rodriguez. He has scored ten goals in nine internationals this season.

He's taken over from David Villa in that regard. This will be the thing

for Uruguay. Occasionally against Spain they loan you the ball. But it

is what you do with it. Iniesta has a flyer outside him in Jordi Alba.

Suarez in those wide positions, the Southampton player. Suarez, before

the game, was saying when Spain come forward they leave gaps in wide

role. You try to tell little kids, try and have a picture in your mind
