Apologies if you caught something with a bit of extra adrenaline from

Joe Hart. It's that sort of day. We know you are feeling it at home. How

Home to Racing Club Lens. A stadium with a capacity greater than the

town's population. You won't find many from this town in here today

but it is jam-packed, those in red supporting Wales, those in white

following England. We have heard the word passion a lot in the last few

days. My goodness you will hear it now. Get the handkerchiefs ready and

take some deep breaths, for the national anthems.

Ladies and gentlemen, please remain standing for the national anthem of

England. If the legs have not already turned

to jelly, please take a Zika! -- seat. Handshakes between familiar

friends and foes. England are unchanged, the same XI that played

against Russia, expected to play in the same formation. Only Wayne

Rooney, with 113 games, has played more in this team, the third most

experienced player, Gary Cahill, is the only one sitting on the yellow

card from game one. All three, including Chris Smalling, played the

last time England played Wales, a 1-0 Wembley win. A qualified doctor

of law applying the laws today, Germany's Felix Brych, a 40-year-old

from Munich. For Wales, three changes from the win over Slovakia,

Wayne Hennessey has had a pain relieving injection after a back

spasm, Joe Ledley comes in for Dave Edwards, his first start since

breaking a bone in his leg on May the 7th. A gamble may be? Hal

Robson-Kanu will play up front, with Williams making way.

Lens has a very British feel in a stadium that looks like a kind of

British place. Both sides will gather in their

pre-match apples to just read one another up one last time before it

all begins. -- huddles to rev. A bit of a shame that Wales are not in

their home red. England are in white. This game seems to have had

just of a bit of a bigger build-up, almost as though it has been allowed

to breathe a little bit more. The countdown has started to kick off,

it is going to be Wales who get things under way. Aaron Ramsey and

Gareth Bale on the ball, and away we go, Three Lions, one Racking, it

sounds like the stuff of legend, it is just the sort of game my

companions alongside me would love to have played in. -- one Dragon.

Harry Kane did not half set off on the front foot! Robbie Savage, a few

words out of the way. The wingback areas are going to be massively

important for Wales, Gunter and Taylor, offensively and defensively.

Looking for a Hal Robson-Kanu and Gareth Bale to give England a

difficult game, but what a great start from England. A lightning

start, as if we expected anything else! We will speak to Martin Keown

in a moment, but we dared take our eyes off what is happening with this

Kyle Walker throw. Could not find Dele Alli. Martin,

England's needs to win is more pressing than Wales today, but they

got that late Russian goal out of their systems. I think so, they have

had time to rebalance, the only thing that was missing was the

cutting edge in their finishing. Harry Kane has started well,

Williams will not want to take liberties in possession again.

Cahill allowed a bit of time on the ball.

Alli, Lallana, Sterling has moved across into a central position here.

Just moving back out towards the left side now, as Dier finds Chris

Smalling. And so does Rooney. I was expecting Wales to press the ball a

lot more than they have. Interesting that the wingbacks, or the fullbacks

for England, pushing the Welsh wingbacks all the way back, that

could be a feature of today's play. Wayne Hennessey was passed fit to

play, he would have been bitterly disappointed at missing that

historic win over Slovakia. Rooney looking to find walk-out. Taylor is

forced to knock the ball behind for an England corner.

Looking for that diagonal ball, all afternoon, for Rooney, Walker, a

positive start from England, on the front foot, closing the Welsh team

down. Having all the possession, good start from England. Wayne

Rooney to take the corner, not Harry Kane.

Kane is there. Emerging from behind Smalling. The ball found its way in

between the pair of them. Aaron Ramsey takes issue with a nudge from

Dele Alli. Chris Gunter steps in. Now Herr Dr Brych. A needless foul,

Ramsey gets up, you can wind Dele Alli up, a little word in his ear, a

little push from Ramsey. A little smile on Martin Keown's phase,

Arsenal against Spurs has started already. That is what Rooney is on

the pitch four, over 100 caps, he will be calming him down. Walker

closed by Ramsey, won by Ramsey. Ramsey is being held by Kyle Walker,

and foul. The rhetoric, well, we all saw it, he could not have been

better placed to see it. -- the referee. Kyle Walker tugging at

Ramsey. Ramsey does go down a bit too early, his left leg seemed to

slip, but the referee awards a free kick in a dangerous area. England

have two in the wall and a line of seven across the edge of the six

yard box. Ramsey taking plenty of time to get

himself sorted, having won the free kick. Just looking at the English

backline, not really picking up, they are just in a line, not man for

man. It is a zonal system, a risky here. It is a line-out! Ramsey

delivers. It was Dele Alli who was stationed at the right place to get

it away. Taylor. Smalling Beaton, a little deflection. No real pace on

it, easy enough for Joe Hart, who is in a hurry to find Raheem Sterling.

Chris Gunter across with him. Quick ball out from Hart, he wanted

to use Sterling's pace, but he would have had an awful lot to do from

there. Just a watching brief to start with four Jamie Vardy once

more. -- for. Ashley Williams is in charge of that

one. From a defensive point of view, for Wales, they are playing the five

at the back. Joe Allen, Ledley, and then in front of them, Ramsey and

Bale to support Robson-Kanu. But Ramsey will drop in between Ledley

and Allen to screen the back three. Very difficult for people to find

space. You will find that Rooney will probably get the ball deeper

than usual dumb luck for that diagonal. Cahill finds Lallana,

Sterling has into the box for him. Sterling cannot keep it down. Great

bit of work from Adam Lallana, he put it in the right place for

Sterling, who could not find his perfect spot. Great counterattacking

from England, ball into the box, this is the area which Sterling

needs to improve. He needed to bury that one. Golden opportunity for

England. From the Wales standpoint, that is the negative at times of

playing wingbacks. Taylor was too forward, space behind, Lallana

punished in with a great ball across. Sterling was just

stretching. Difficult one for him, but at this level you would expect

it to be taken. Gunter and Ramsey. Time plenty for James Chester to

find Wayne Hennessey. He has launched that one, Gareth Bale will

not chase it. It will go all the way through to Joe Hart. Chris Coleman

was saying this week that he was looking forward to a bit of a

dustup, a 100 mph game football. I think we are going to get one.

Chester sees off Sterling, Ramsey used the spin.

Robson-Kanu trying to get into the middle. He got his head to it as

well. This is going to break for Neil Taylor. Taylor's ball in wasn't

bad. Gary Cahill clear, England struggling a little bit here. That

mistake from Walker does not help. Walker has it more under control

this time to find Kane. Kane felt he took a nudge. The officials did not

agree, but it will be a throw. That was the opportunity there, he

is stretching. I do not think he has to stretch, I think he has to be

more composed in front of goal. It has come off his heel kind of, be

more positive, get your head over the ball, he should score that,

Sterling. It looked worse from that angle, he seems to get to the ball

too early. Top players, they put that away. We thought at Man City

that is where the improvement would come, but it really hasn't. It may

play on the mind of Raheem Sterling, affect the confidence a little bit.

He came in for a bit of stick for his second-half performance against

Russia at the weekend. Roy Hodgson has kept faith. Great bit of work

from Hal Robson-Kanu. Walker did not dare risk challenging

Bale, and it is a good block from Cahill - corner Wales. That is why

Hal Robson-Kanu is in the team for Wales, he stretches the opposition,

runs the channels. Bale charges into the box, try to shoot across goal,

good block. Cahill knows he will have to be alerted that. Gareth Bale

pulls the trigger, he is very dangerous, as we know. His corners

can be pretty dangerous too. Joe Hart has lost it. He is indebted to

Harry Kane for belting it away. Lallana called Taylor napping,

England throw. That is a feature of Lallana's play, he wins the ball

back brilliantly. Great tackle there from Taylor. As you see, Joe Hart,

just loses the ball over Eric Dier. Positive goalkeeping from Joe Hart

early on. He did have a little look towards the referee and stretched

his arms out, but I don't think anything would be given for Joe

Ledley's involvement there. It feels like a scrappy Premier League game

with added. It is like a game of chess, really, tactically. You can

see the benefits of both systems, I like the way that England have set

their stall out, but on the break Wales look very dangerous. I am sure

that the nerves will settle on both sides.

Ramsey, shoulder to shoulder with the Spurs man, and he does enough to

force out for a Wales throw in. You can see the problem there, Ramsey is

going to have to chase all the way back, he will run his legs off, he

won't want to do that every time. Dele Alli had just to make his way,

Harry Kane went the other way, making himself available for the

ball. Shooting chance for Rooney. Albeit from a long way out! It went

a long way over. It is important, though, in that build-up, that when

Harry Kane drops off, Ledley or Allen quickly engages him. Got the

ball too easily, laid it back to Rooney, I think Wales will be happy

that he is shooting from that distance.

England were thinking about getting the game stopped, but Gary Cahill

has got back to his feet. Adam Lallana is, as ever, moving quickly.

Some intelligent runs by Lallana, he is the one looking to get behind,

looking for the space in behind them.

Dier has dropped back. Certainly not snapping into the tackles yet. Joe

Allen is trying to change that. He ran into Chester. That was good

defending. The push from Raheem Sterling was spotted. Welsh free

kick. Patient build-up by England, they should be trying to get Alli on

the ball in the free space that he is finding. They have to be patient

and keep moving the ball. Wayne Hennessey is seeking out

Robson-Kanu who does really well to get it down. They did not quite

stick. Even though Rooney was in Dier's way he manages to squirm it

away to Danny Rose. It's going to be important that Joe

Allen engages Rose early. Ramsey can move to this side to engage Walker

early. Here is Dele Alli. Lallana can push up against Davies and

Sterling can push up against Chester to allow space for the England

fullbacks to get forward. A little push from Davies. Dele Alli making

great runs again from midfield. Here is Cahill.

Aimed at Sterling. Sterling will now chase. Gunter gets it away but not

very convincingly at all, straight to Rooney. He rather gets away with

that. Gunter goes out to meet Rose. Danny

Rose concedes possession and Joe Allen puts it through the legs of

Wayne Rooney and he's away. Dier is policing. He just quickens his

stride. He manages to get to it before Aaron Ramsey and makes sure

that he wins the free kick. This is Dier, see his pace, again, reading

the game beautifully well in front of his back four. Really important

job because Wales look as though they want to counterattack at every

opportunity. Dele Alli, that was his reaction to the push from Ben

Davies, which was a risky manoeuvre. Tottenham against Tottenham. Dier

has had a good start to the game for England. You would think Wales would

be pretty content with how they have shaped up. Defensively, I would like

them to get it forward to Gareth Bale and get on the front foot. That

was a good tackle by Ramsey. Ramsey has been well and truly in the game.

He has stayed down as Sterling goes away. Awkwardly off the head of

Ashley Williams and spins behind for an England corner. Getting around

Ramsey there, very well, hunting in pairs. Five of England's last seven

championship goals have come from set pieces, three of those from

corners. Wales will be well drilled. Cahill, followed by Williams. Rooney

in, just over Eric Dier's head, but Eric Dier was free. Great move by

Dier. He went to the front post and spun off the back of Ben Davies, Ben

Davies was ball watching. Rooney was caught on the ball by

Gareth Bale. Chris Coleman has got a message that

he wants to impart. What he is saying is, to Joe Allen, get the

ball and get playing, look for diagonals and get involved in the

game going forward. They are doing great defensively but they need more

offensively. There is no point having the Welsh Xavi if you are not

going to get him with the ball at his boots. He is frightened to pass

it forward and that is what will annoy him most of all. A couple of

times Bale is getting into good positions but they are not looking

forward. Not for long. Adam Lallana, just gave Chester the

hurry up. He was strong enough to keep the ball, though. That was

played off Dele Alli, Wales broke. James Chester, as with so many on

the field in Wales shirts, actually English born.

Ashley Williams is another. Launches it towards Gareth Bale. Bale can't

do anything other than headed behind. It will be an England

goalkick. A bit too straight from Ashley Williams. Gunter was very far

forward. Trying to hit a bit more diagonally, because Gunter will have

loads of space on the right hand side for Wales, as he did in the

first game with Slovakia. He was a threat down the right-hand side. You

just get the feeling with 20 minutes played that the game needs a bit of

a lift, it is falling a bit flat so far. That would suit Wales more than

England. It will, but they would still want to do better in

possession. I wonder whether Ramsey should drop deeper in the build-up

to try to get the ball off these defenders. Given away to Alli. He

needs to get his feet sorted out quickly, not quick enough to really

take advantage. Found again by Rooney. Dele Alli is chopped to the

floor. England free kick. It was Joe Ledley, tackling from the wrong

side. We were saying about Taylor that he should be in gauging Dele

Alli, there. He comes in with his left foot and catches Alli, definite

free kick. A fairly soft free kick. I thought we might have seen a tasty

tackle or two by now, but it's been rather cautious on either side.

Possibly because you two aren't playing! Harry Kane might not be on

corners, but he's thinking about striking this free kick towards

goal. He got it up but not down. Disappointing again. You wonder what

this is doing to his confidence. He never really looked confident at

all. Just skying it. It's a difficult skill to get it up and

down but he gets it all wrong there, I'm afraid. Lallana, again, he's

hunting. Closing in on Ben Davies and Williams takes no chances with

the ball for Gareth Bale. He was met strongly by Chris Smalling. The flag

is waged against the Welshman. Given it for a high foot, I think, there,

the linesman. Sterling was seen off by Chester with Gunter's help.

Cahill gets just enough on that to find Dele Alli. Pursued by Ramsey.

He waits for the right moment. Ledley was caught strongly by

Lallana. To strongly. You have to say that Ramsey's workload is

outstanding. That is a foul, Lallana trying to get back. Wales are just

happy to have a breather for a second, to get out of their own

half. Ramsey for Wales and Lallana for England are the most energetic

players on the field so far. Nice and easy for Joe Hart. Now Danny

Rose. I just think for Wales at the minute, it is too straight, the

balls are too straight, they are not switching play quick enough to get

the wingbacks engaged, get the ball and switch it. Move England about.

Rooney is on the move for England. Rose.

Lallana was just trying to drift away from Williams in the box but

the ball did not go the way of either of them.

Lallana points the way, lovely flick towards Kane, well read by Ben

Davies. Williams clears. A bit of rhythm is being found by England.

Lallana has got great feet, good imagination and vision. Here is

Bale. Can Wales get out? Bale was caught by Alli. Sterling. He left it

too long. That was his failing at the weekend. Here is Rose. He has

been tripped. Joe Ledley furiously wagging his finger. He did not think

it was a foul but it's a free kick for England. He definitely catches

him. That is two on the bounce, giving away free kicks. I totally

disagree. He has not touched him. He goes down far too easily for me,

Danny Rose. There is no contact whatsoever from Joe Ledley, that was

a poor decision by the referee. Harry Kane has given this one up for

his captain. Rooney is setting his sights. Rooney

is lifting one towards Cahill! He did flick it. That was well watched

by Hennessey. This time it's a great, teasing ball in, just stays

onside. Ashley Williams not even getting off the ground. He just

can't guide it in. What I will say, if you were these Welsh players,

they are slipping, I'm not sure they have got the correct footwear. It

was an excellent stop by Ramsey, though. Ramsey again. Eric Dier

weighs in. Fairly, says the referee. Back in for Wales, to great cheers

in the stands four James Chester. You just have the feeling that it's

getting a bit more lively. It's getting a bit more scrappy, and that

is suiting Wales. Ramsey, and I is bit of check on that for him. Here

is Taylor. -- it is a nice bit of check. Sterling has two comeback and

help there. And then Wales felt he was all over the back of Gunter.

Sterling hurried up. Lallana. He lets the ball drift across to give

himself more space. And somebody has turned on the game! Here is Walker.

Walker against Taylor. That was defended by Davies. England corner.

It has started. The gloves are off. Good response. It was getting a bit

tetchy. Walker shows good pace down the right-hand side, testing Taylor.

Wayne Rooney, very deliberately walking across to the corner flag.

Trying to get himself and his team steady again. In the end he was

looking for Alli. And arms applied. Alli's unhappy. He has to watch

himself as he brushes past the referee. Joe Allen is doing his job

well, there. I'm not sure that's a free kick actually. He has to jump,

Dele Alli. He is the bigger guy, more physical presence, I'm not sure

that was a foul. Smalling beaten by Bale, Robson-Kanu

giving Cahill a real test. Too strong for Ramsey, Bale will chase.

A push in the back of Lallana, no foul, Wales throw. Once again,

Robson-Kanu giving one of the England centre halves problems with

his pace. Taylor trying to put the pressure on

Lallana. Rose now, Sterling has said off in front of him. -- set off.

Good play from the wingback Taylor there, he has seen the crossfield

passes, in a position where he can engage on Walker's first touch, good

play. Arms were the problem there, this time Ben Davies on his White

Hart Lane colleague, Kane. This is better, making himself available,

turns inside, overcommitment once more. They are building up.

England have got to start making these free kicks and corners count,

getting somebody on the end of them, a bit of quality. The clock is

ticking. Rooney tries to lift one in again,

firmly cleared. Gunter swinging his arm angrily at the referee. Kane and

Williams having a right battle on set pieces, both but pushing each

other. We don't want to see the referee giving a penalty for shirt

pulling, they are both having a right go at each other from every

set piece. Just keep an eye on that one, Williams against Cahill. He

seemed to have asked too much of Danny Rose there, he kept it in, but

was it wise? Smalling was the cover man, Joe Hart get it away.

Ramsey looked to have outdone Cahill for a moment, good recovery from the

Chelsea centre back. Good harassing from Ramsey. He makes good runs from

deep as well, you cannot switch off to that. The England back four all

over the place at times, petrified in possession, get the ball to

Gareth Bale, get him to run at this nervous England back four. The

assistant referee was flagging for a foul there, but the referee was

happy for England to get on with it. Lallana always happy to do that.

Rooney tried to shift it out, hoping for a shooting opening, but it never

appeared. Lallana looking for Sterling.

Sterling did not seem to see Alli. Taking on Gunter, Kane goes for it,

was it blocked by a hand?! England are adamant that it was. Not a

penalty for me, I do not know what Ben Davies could do, he was not even

looking at the ball. That is not handball, yes, it hit him on the

arm, but you cannot give a penalty for that, he is not looking at the

ball. Up but it has certainly hit his hand, you have to say. Ball to

hand, hand to ball? It depends which corner you are in. I think you have

just proved that. Ramsey did not get there. It is the

first really big moments that we have had in the game. It is Ramsey,

it looks as if he has won the ball there, Guy, just got a little toe on

it. Where do expecting to go on his follow-through? He is going to catch

Alli. A foul is a foul, Robbie. I am going to have to break you two up! I

think everybody knew this would happen. Ashley Williams telling him

to keep it, let's get out, let's keep our shape. I think we will

change our shape at half-time, and I will sit in the middle! Taylor

caught by Lallana. It is a Wales throw. Up when he gets that ball,

Taylor is isolated, great closing down from the England players.

Would it be a worry for you, Robbie, that Gareth Bale has not quite got

into it yet? He has been on the fringes, Guy, but he is a player,

anyone given moment in the game, he can create a moment of magic. While

he is on the pitch, he will have an opportunity, a chance in this game.

Well, I think he is probably the best player, if not the best player

in Europe, outstanding talent, nobody runs quicker than him, it's

the ball harder, leaps higher. We have seen some of the balls he has

won in the air already today, but England are bossing possession. He

has got a mate in Madrid who was not half bad, Martin! Up he is not half

bad, but Bale will one day overcome him, he is very inspirational for

this bunch. Certainly seem to be the case for the latter half of the

season at Real Madrid too. Rooney is dictating the game, always

looking for Walker. From Wales' standpoint, if I was Chris Coleman,

I would say, get closer to Rooney when he picks that ball up. They are

doing that better than Wales this afternoon.

Gary Cahill again being watched very closely by Ashley Williams. In it

comes from Rooney, Smalling gets it! Just past the post, not far passed

it. Well, it is another great ball into

the box, this time Smalling getting a yard of space, just cannot get it

on target. He has got up brilliantly. Kane there as well,

trying to flick it towards goal. Even Roy Hodgson was trying to flick

it towards goal. Still England 0, Wales 0. A lovely afternoon in Lens.

The game is warming up too. Walker's skips past Taylor, nobody there in a

white shirt. Just an example of where England need more quality in

the final third. It is OK getting into those areas, just a bit better

at times, Sturridge warming up. I wonder if he wants to make a change

at any point. The shout was hold, but he could not

do that. Joe Ledley read that was about to

happen from Dele Alli, and Rooney read that pretty well too.

Up towards Lallana, but not close enough to him, and Lallana

gesticulates to Kyle Walker. The Welsh fans pretty content with the

way their team are defending, it is a nervous watch, whether you have

the dragon on your shirt or the three lines. I must say, my heart is

pounding in the commentary box, I'll be honest with you. Every time the

ball goes near the Wales goal, we have got to say, defensively, the

back three are doing well, no space in behind. Once or twice Lallana has

got in behind them. Nothing doing for Gareth Bale.

Good distribution from Hart. The Welsh fans trying to lift their

side. A loud plenty of time on the ball in a half here, Kane to Alli.

Walker, Williams gets it away. The only defender to make over 300

clearances in the Premier League last term, Ashley Williams, an

old-fashioned defender. He is the dictator in that defence, pointing

the finger, shouting the orders. Got his work cut out at the moment.

I don't think they should get the ball into Kane's beat without Ledley

or Allen screaming from the throw in. It is to easy for him to get it

do is feed. Certainly having a lot more of the ball at their feet in

the last few minutes. Got to do more with it, got to move quicker.

Just seeing what the danger could be for Wales, if Alli drops deep and

Ashley Williams goes inside, because Chester and Davies are so far apart,

Lallana can run diagonally. It is so important, these four. Lallana, one

of the most impressive players in an England shirt today, Rooney too.

Rooney finds Rose. Alli, Williams quickly and, joined by Chester,

double trouble for England. Something that Williams has to do,

three at the back, you have to send somebody in occasionally. They have

done it there to good effect. Into the final five minutes of the first

half. Chris Coleman is managing to look cool enough. Never played

against England during his career, 32 appearances for is country. Here

is Bale, here is Taylor, trying to slide one into Ramsey. Clearance

from Walker. That is where Gareth Bale can be so dangerous, picking

the ball up in his own half, driving at England, the back four. He has

got to pick his head up, with that in behind the back four of England,

poor ball from Taylor. Rooney has reciprocated a little too keenly

there, it will be a free kick for Wales, you could see his frustration

rising, all thanks to the work of the Wales number nine. You don't

want to have an angry Wayne Rooney, you want him to keep his head, the

elder statesman in this team now. This is all Gareth Bale territory, a

long way out, but he can hit it from here. Joe Hart will be well aware of

that. Just picked a bit of the Lens turf

out of his boots, has Bale. Only one option for him. Nice looking rugby

union kick, the way he has gone back and steps to the right, and he

strikes brilliantly! Gareth Bale with a moment of absolute magic! Not

many players in the world can do that!

The Welsh legend might be writing another one, England 0, Wales 1. It

is that man again! That man again, he has been on the fringes, it is 35

yards out! It has gone over the wall, Joe Hart has got his hands on

it, he has to be pushing that past the post. What a free kick! What a

goal! Wales 1-0, look at the technique from Gareth Bale, it is in

the middle of the goal, I think Joe Hart has got to do better. Listen,

it is an un-believable strike, the ball nearly catches fire, he hits it

so hard, but he should be saving that. The as got to put an extra

step in across his goal and click that wide. Two goals at Euro 2016

for Real Madrid and Wales' Gareth Bale, two free kicks, two mistakes?

No, two great strikes. Rooney was rash in his challenge. He

pushed him over and allow the free kick to happen, but I'm not being

funny, a world-class goalkeeper in Joe Hart, he should not be getting

beat from there. The same as against Kozacik at the weekend, down the

middle. Such a long way out, to even have the audacity to even go for it

from there, but we have seen him doing it so many times, he is a

special player who scores special goals. What a problem Roy Hodgson

now as do solve now. The first goal is always important in any game at

any level. They now have to keep their wingbacks level, and when you

play a back five, just get to half-time 1-0. Dier, to Danny Rose.

We should not understate the part played by Hal Robson-Kanu in

rattling Rooney to win the free kick. He has rattled himself by

failing to keep the ball in. This is testing times for England, they need

character, of course. The Welsh fans are loving this moment. It will cost

a fair few quid to pay for your travel and get your hotel sorted and

come to France. But every Welshman here thinks it is worth it right

now. He is leaving that side of a goal open and he is slow to get

across. His wrists are not strong enough. It did not move a lot, did

Aaron Ramsey has kept his balance better than Cahill and played a good

ball in as well. He thunders into Allen. Into stoppage time. There

will only be an minute of it. Ramsey. He will take that. Even

though Bale didn't move, it might eat up most of the minute and mean

that Roy Hodgson's team will go into the break a goal down. It will be an

important team talk for Roy, dominating possession in this match,

and they have found themselves behind. I think it's going to be the

biggest team talk of his managerial career, his England career. If he

doesn't get a positive display in the second half there will be

massive questions asked of the England manager. Taylor. He wants to

hear the half-time whistle before the throw, and now it is half-time.

What a half for the Welsh Dragon. Gareth Bale has done it again. Two

games, two free kicks, two goalkeepers who won't want to watch

them again. Joe Hart was beaten from range. England have work to do if

they are not to be beaten in this game. It is Wales' game to lose.

STUDIO: Wales are ahead at half-time, England dominating much

of the game. Ultimately it is the scoreline that counts? England have

dominated possession but for all of their possession they have not

worked the goalkeeper once and that is not good enough, Robson-Kanu was

bullying our centre halves, showing great aggression and gave his team

an outlet. We haven't seen anywhere near enough from Raheem Sterling.

Roy has do change that at half-time and bring on another forward because

Sterling hasn't given us enough. The game plan has worked for Wales?

England have been the better team, but one strike from Gareth,

magnificent. Joe Hart has got to say that, for me. We got a visible lift.

We were on the rack at one point. Sterling had a great chance to score

and he missed. England have got to score goals. England had 70%

possession, but ultimately they did not carve out many chances? When

they get a chance they have devoted away at this level. You can't keep

getting chances, we got chances in the first gay man did not put them

away, this time it was the same, falling to Raheem Sterling, we could

have had a bit of breathing space if he put that away. We have looked

nervy. A few passes going astray, we have had the possession again but we

need killer instinct. Gareth Bale has been the difference? He stepped

up. You have to talk about the goal, I agree with Dean, Wales have been

poor, uncharacteristically giving away the ball, starting in the first

ten seconds. They were not decisive enough, Harry Kane got through. We

have got the goal, I don't think they will be able to hold out for 45

minutes, but they have got the all-important first goal. Only two

players have scored from two direct free kicks in the same tournament.

Gareth Bale joins them. It's a brilliant strike, let's get that

straight. He hits the target like the other day, but Joe Hart has do

save that. Goalkeeper should be able to stand in the middle of the goal

and save it. There is about four or five going in in the championship.

The goalkeeper has do save that, whether the ball is a bit lighter

these days... That is three yards inside the post. He is wrong-footed.

He has seen a bit of swerve coming in. I don't know why he has to be

one side of the goal? If you moved the wall and stood there and said,

beat me from there. That is almost what he did. He was there with his

hands. I agree with you. He starts further right and he leaves too much

room on the left-hand side and gives himself a little bit too much to do.

You could have a hundred of those with no wall and he would not score.

Judging by what has happened in the first few days of this tournament. A

great chance for Raheem Sterling early. He has do score. It's as

simple as that, Gary. He looks short of match fitness, doesn't look

confident. He draws in Ashley Williams which leaves space for

Lallana which hasn't happened enough, good ball from Lallana, but

at this level, you get one of those, they have to go in, otherwise you

are punished. It happened the other day, we had chances and we were

punished. Another one that has to go in. It is perfect for him, right in

front of his feet, why does he end up on the floor? He should not even

be stretching. A finisher just comes straight onto the ball. Alan will

talk about it in a minute, but if you are playing someone is narrow

alongside Harry Kane, surely one of them has to be a striker because you

will surely get that opportunity. If you get someone into that position

all the time, you will find the back of the net. If you go with a 4-3-3,

you expect that the two wide players will be wide. But even more so when

you play against three centre halves, Sterling has to get out on

the touchline, given us a bit of width. I know Rose is there, but

then you ask the question of the right wingback, Gunter. You also ask

the question of the other centre half. Yes, it is moved out, but look

at Sterling inside, the centre half is comfortable and he now has to

give us a bit of width if he comes back out for the second half. Not

enough questions have been asked, they have been far too comfortable,

the vast majority has been in front of them. Get out wide. That is too

easy for the centre half, not giving the full-back any options. Not

giving the midfielder any options. We are carrying him, we are not

playing with 11 men. As a free centre half, and the full-back, if

they are in front of you, it is so easy, make them look, their face

goes away from the game. Then people can run off you. If they can see the

whole picture it is so easy to mark as a defender. England penalty

shout, it hit the hand of Ben Davies? It certainly hits his hand

but it's not intentional, it's an accident. I'm not even sure whether

Ben is looking at the ball. It just hit his hand, absolutely, but there

is no intention. Do we all agree? Yes. Yes, that is not deliberate. I

have seen them given, though, occasionally. Cahill and Smalling

with a couple of headers, set pieces, they have looked a bit

threatening at times Roger Mark Rooney is on the corners and his

delivery has been good. -- threatening at times? This one could

have gone in. It's a good header and Williams slips. It's good movement

by Smalling. Harry Kane nearly gets a touch and is just wide. They

looked dangerous, England, from set plays. It is not quite happening in

front of goal. Wales have sat deep, haven't they, for most of the game?

Will it be the same in the second half and would you have liked to see

them pressing more? Well, I don't think they have been allowed to

because England have dominated possession and Wales have not been

allowed to get four or five passes together. They have not been able to

impose their game on Wales, really. Hal Robson-Kanu has done well in

terms of what he had to do but in terms of getting Gareth Bale on the

ball, we have not been able to get enough possession. It is too easy,

they are not moving them around enough, they have been too

comfortable, they have not asked enough questions and have not

stretched to three centre halves and have not asked enough questions of

the wingbacks. Yes, England have had the possession but they haven't done

anywhere near enough with it. Wales are leading at half-time.

After the game on Sunday, you told me that you were mentally and

physically drained, how well can Northern Ireland lift themselves

were another big game? It's another game to enjoy, and hopefully we can

put in a better performance. We did not play really, really badly

against Poland. But at certain times in the game we could have created

more chances going forward. We could have been more professional. Despite

defeat how much did you enjoy the experience? It was amazing. We were

talking on the way back on the bus after the game and we were saying,

everything leading up to it has been one of the best things we have

experienced in our careers as footballers. It was just an amazing

occasion. One that we are all thankful to be part of. When a team

loses, your team loses, can you take any satisfaction in your own

personal performance on the biggest age? It's difficult to do that. --

biggest stage. We all put in a lot of effort in that match. Defending

for our lives and covering for each other. That is something we can be

proud of. We worked hard for each other. Has the confidence taken a

dent or is is it the case that you are still looking forward to

tomorrow? We are still just looking to improve on simple things and that

gives us belief, and we are here to enjoy the experience but we also

want to not let the game passed us by and enjoy it as much as we can.

We want to get the ball forward quicker and put the opposition under

pressure. I think we will definitely see more of an exciting match. We

will have highlights of Northern Ireland versus Ukraine and Germany

against Poland on BBC Two at 11:15pm.

Hart will be disappointed, as good as Gareth Bale is and as mercurial

as he is, he should be saving that? He should save it, he did not move

his feet quickly enough. It is a mistake and hugely disappointing

after dominating the half. We have not made enough chances now, we have

do up the tempo and I would like to see one or two changes at half-time

to inject pace into the side and get behind the Welsh back five. Wales

absorbed so much pressure and the energy they have to give out, Ian

Rush, to contain the England attacking line-up, which really,

they played for most of the half down there. How can they keep it up

for another 45 minutes? It will be difficult but when you have scored a

goal you have something to work on, there will be changes made after

about an hour, they have something to hold onto now and it's a massive

boost for Wales, that goal. It came against the run of play but you

nowhere in Gareth Bale has an opportunity... Wayne Rooney will be

kicking himself that he allowed Robson-Kanu to get into him. It is

still a long way out and you have to give away the odd foul. We have

created a few chances but we are not clinical enough, we have seen that

before. I would like to see Daniel Sturridge, personally. He was

reticent to make changes? In Marseille. Sturridge has been on

fire in training so I think he might go with him. Thanks, guys. Welcome

to Lens, the fixture of Euro 2016. Away we go. It sounds like the stuff

of legend. Sterling can't keep it down. He could not dare risk

challenging him. Cahill! Kane goes for it and that was blocked, was it

by a hand? Gareth Bale! That was a moment of absolute magic! Yes, that

Gareth Bale goal is the only one from the first half, would you like

to see Roy Hodgson making changes at half-time or will he wait a while?

Immediate substitutions, they need goal-scoring instincts right now.

Which would you prefer to see? I might bring both of them on. I think

he has got to make a change, because at the minute it is not working,

he's not shifting the centre halves around enough, we're not getting

behind, we're not getting any width. He has got players on the Ben Chu

have been in the form, and he has got to use them. Sometimes when you

are a goal ahead, difficult to know whether to stick or twist, what do

expect Wales to do? They sat back in the first half. We are getting

forced back because England are a good team. We have got to keep the

ball better, the first pass that we nick back has got to stick so we can

get at the pitch. Chris will be looking at Joe Ledley, Joe Allen. I

think they have both been injured, Joe Allen has been ill overnight. He

has got David Edwards and Andy King that he can bring on, keep the

engine going in the middle of the pitch. We are hearing that Sturridge

did not join the players in the warm up, he has stayed in the dressing

room, does that signify who might be coming on? We might well see him

coming on, Sturridge, he can produce something out of the ordinary, very

tricky, great skill, individual talent. He is very much individual,

isn't he? He can produce something, and I think Vardy, striker, but

Sturridge is a good substitution. There he is. Yes, looks like he is

coming on, not sure who he is taking off yet. Descartes for Roy Hodgson,

he has made a change, and Vardy as well. He might be doing exactly what

you wanted, Alan, positive from the England coach. That will put the

back three of Wales on the back foot. Hold on, two guys who have got

the know-how to put the ball in the back of the net. The two in the

first, Lallana and Sterling, very much providers. These two finishes.

Kane off, Sterling off. His neck is on the line, if he did not make

changes, the inevitable would happen. Big opportunity for those

guys as strikers. Dean, you know, you have to make yourself as hero.

What a good front three that is now. Will Wales alter the way they play,

with two strikers? Gary, we are hanging on, relying on Gareth Bale!

We have not kicked off! Let's rejoin Robbie Savage, Martin Keown and Guy

Mowbray. So Roy Hodgson is going for broke,

he has to, otherwise English cards will be broken. That Gareth Bale

goal in the first part was the first time that Wales have scored in the

last five meetings of these nations, their first goal since Mark Hughes

scored on his debut in Wrexham on the 2nd of May 19 84. It was his

Wales debut. So it is England who will start the second half, and

their fans will hope on the front foot. Martin Keown is one of those,

do you applaud those changes? Without a doubt, when you have that

kind of firepower on the bench, Sturridge is probably the most

naturally gifted centre forward we have, and magic is needed now.

England really on the back foot, he needed to do something, too slow,

not enough quality in the final third, that has to change now. Aaron

Ramsey holding up Adam Lallana. We were not surprised to see that those

two have run further than any other players on the field. From the

England perspective, I think the England fans would rather see a

proactive manager from the start, instead of a reactive manager.

Reactive Roy has got a ring to it. I think they would like to see a

winning manager. Here is Chris Smalling, ball out of play. England

had a lot of possession in that first half and they were too slow,

allowing Wales to get back into their shape quite quickly, be

strong, and that one chance of Raheem Sterling, they should have

scored. Other than that, there was no real pressure on Wales. The flag

up against Robson-Kanu, who went down after a brush with Cahill, he

started his movement from an offside position. Joe Hart gets the ball to

Kyle Walker pretty quickly. Here is Daniel Sturridge.

And still Daniel Sturridge, enjoying his run on the ball. Ledley went

with him all the way. Ramsey has lost its to Alli, but only

temporarily, great recovery. Vardy had a nibble at Bale, gliding

away from him. The referee had the perfect view of that. Great pace,

Gareth Bale, went past Walker, surely there was an arm on the

shoulder from Walker, why on earth would he go down, great position on

his left foot to whip the ball into the box, he had gone past Walker!

Walker has got excellent pace, and even he is struggling to catch up.

He goes down to easily there, when you see the replay. Bale almost got

onto that, Ramsey almost got control of it!

Already, Sturridge is playing out there, quite wide, coming in more

centrally now. Vardy will be the top striker, playing on the shoulder of

the last defender for Wales. Eric Dier shaping up to shoot,

blocked. Four in the box for Walker, but

Walker is getting there and soft, into the side of the goal,

deflected, England corner, and there is an immediate England response.

That is what you want, Walker getting down that right-hand side,

lots of pace. That is the reaction from England that they were looking

for. The message has to be attack. Smalling tried to attack it, Cahill

behind him. Dele Alli will not get to it in time. Wales throw, Dele

Alli thought it was going to go his way.

Of course, with every throwing, with every free kick, you cannot blame

Wales for taking as long as they want. England would do exactly the

same, wouldn't they, time waste, if they could? I would take 43 minutes

over that throw in! It is going to be a long 43 minutes for you,

Robbie, if it stays like this - but I am sure you would take it that

way. Walker takes the long way around

past Taylor. When will he deliver? Allen realised he was coming in, got

across, it is behind for a goal kick. Really positive start from

England in the second half, positive substitutions from the manager. You

could see how many bodies Wales had got back defending, look at many

bodies were in the box from the Wales' point of view. All doing

their jobs, good line, good shape. They are queueing up in the box for

that ball from Walker, a ball of quality is needed for those

strikers. You can pretend he does not know

where the borders before the free kick. -- where the ball is.

Williams' header has gone to Dele Alli. Sturridge has no way past

James Chester. Sturridge has gone for goal, nowhere

near it. Maybe encouraging, Martin, to see him wanting the ball at every

opportunity. Roy has got his head down there, Sturridge not able to

keep the ball down, though, speculative effort from a very long

way out. This is the challenge of Vardy, getting tangled up with

Williams. Roy Hodgson, unless something changes, will be sharing

an unwanted record, England, five tournament games without a win since

beating Ukraine in the final group game in Ukraine four years ago. He

could follow Walter Winterbottom and Sir Bobby Robson by going six

without a win, unless his team scored two goals without further

apply. And it really would ramp up the pressure, not on Chris Coleman -

he would be sitting pretty. What a turnaround it has been for Wales and

his management, losing nine of his first 13 games in charge. He thought

about quitting after three or four. Now see where Wales are.

I think Dele Alli will get much more space in the second half, because

body and Sturridge are trying to occupy two of the three centre

halves, which will allow Dele Alli to get more space in front or

running behind. Not even Jamie Vardy will catch that. Quality again,

isn't it, in the final third? Dier recognising that, got to keep

believing in yourself, getting back into this game. Listen, it is an

experienced group, look at this ball, though, just a simple ball

into the channel. Far too much weight on it.

He's going to make everybody wait. Well won by Robson-Kanu, well struck

by Ramsey. I think that was a why not moment. You saw Joe Hart off his

line. Great strike. Nicely bounced back to Alli by

Sturridge, Rooney now. Ramsey lunged in, Rooney tried to bend it into the

corner, but when Hennessey has seen it, he got to it smartly. Rooney

opens his body up, just feed it into the corner, Hennessey just gets a

hand on it, good effort. Rooney now on the corner.

Lallana comes for the short option, Joe Allen in pursuit, making that

not a viable one. Bale heads it out. Robson-Kanu making life really

awkward for Walker. He is doing himself no harm at all,

the Wales number nine, in finding a new club. He left Reading at the end

of last season. Cahill could not get off the floor,

Vardy is there! England are level! The Jamie Vardy story goes on with

another chapter! Wales ask the question about

offside. The question for Roy Hodgson's team are on the weighty

being and said, Jamie Vardy really does have the golden touch. , The

hour,, the man, Vardy just waiting for that opportunity. He is on it in

a flash. -- cometh. For me, he is maybe a fraction of side. He spins

on it, he is not worried about that, predator in the box. He is on side,

Vardy's pass, it is a goal, positive substitution from Roy Hodgson has

his last five England appearances, Premier League winner, the rise and

rise goes on and on. Four years on, at the last European Championships,

he was just leaving Fleetwood, he was on holiday with his mates. The

fairy tale just keeps going, Roy will be delighted with him.

and deeper. England have do keep this going and feed off this energy.

the game for Wales. They had won against Slovakia and they came

through it but this is wave after wave from England. They have do stay

strong defensively. Sturridge to Lallana, this is some room. Flinging

side. It catches his arm but I don't think there's any intention. I have

seen them given, though. Is that three against the arm of Davies in

That is Rose. Vardy tries to spin away from the shoulder of Ledley.

Out of the box comes Sturridge. He is and Vardy's introduction have put

more spring in the step of being which players but is there a Wales

endeavour down the right-hand side. He is like a machine and he has no

protection, by the way, down the Welsh left-hand side. The Welsh hand

side? I think the excitement is getting to everyone!

Here is Wayne Rooney. Looking for Dier. Who will it fall to? It is

Cahill! That is Dier. It was Davies, but it was going wide anyway. It

could have reached Sturridge. Alli. Joe Hart as to get involved. It is

almost as if the nerves were getting the better of the players there,

swinging feet and heads. What a run by Dele Alli! Controlling it with

his shoulder. Rose skips away from Ramsey. Lovely

bit of body swerving now. Sturridge! He missed kicks. There was Ledley

and he was caught late, it's a Welsh free kick. The latest siege is over.

I can't breathe here, guys. Wave after wave of attack. This was

Sturridge's moment, wasn't it? He fluffed his lines. A clean strike

and he would surely score. He just ran into Ledley. That is why the

free kick was awarded. A bit of after is involving Aaron Ramsey

after that. Kane cannot get the ball out of his feet for the first

opportunity, you can see the England fans with their hands on their

heads, they are in the Senden C and they are looking to win the game and

Wales have do just a strong. -- ascendancy. Every time ball goes

into the box, they look nervous, Wales look nervous. Second balls,

they have do try to win them cleanly. How fast is your heart

going? It is pounding. Robson-Kanu. Dele Alli is there to stop the

cross, he does that but it will be a Wales corner. The ball has not been

down there too much since the start of the second half. It is one of

those moments where you wonder if they could snatch something again,

Wales. Required from England. -- good defending required from

Ramsey in. Vardy just keeps himself airborne long enough to flick it

The spirits have not been dampened in that end. Joe Ledley is

desperately trying to prove to everybody that he can still jog. Off

the field, at least for now. Ramsey's corner. Williams could not

get off the floor. For a second it looked as though had he been able to

it may have been a problem for England. Here is Sturridge. Walker

made the run, Sturridge went for gold. That is two efforts he's had,

he is setting his sights. What they have done better in the second half,

England, they have moved the ball a lot quicker, they listened to Alan

for Edwards in the first match and it looks as though it will be the

other way round today. He did well, Joe Ledley. As you said, he did

fantastically well to be here. He has put in a shift for his side. I

would not say that Wales have used the ball well today, they have

looked nervous and have not been great but Joe Ledley can be proud of

his performance today. The reception is also for his dedication, ever

since the injury he has been having 6am starts with Crystal Palace and

Wales' physios. They have been putting it in and the pair of them

have got him to start in this major tournament. On comes Edwards. A nice

little story is that he used to be a housemate of Joe Hart when they were

together at Shrewsbury. Just about midway through the second

half. Only three quarters of this tale is told, though. I think we

might see another little change soon. I think he might go with

Gareth Bale upfront, take-off Robson-Kanu and put on Williams. Put

Jonny Williams in just to help out the midfield. Well done, I think

that is the first time either of you have used we, ie understand it if

you do. He manages to see off Dier. Roy will be pleased that he has got

back into the game, he wants the momentum lifted again. The

substitution has taken the sting out of England and Wales will be quite

happy with that. Bale dispossessed. That was well picked off by James

Chester. He does that really well, he comes out and wins it with good

anticipation. Now the back three. Here is Chris Gunter. Danny Rose

comes out to meet him and forces him all the way back to Hennessy.

Chris Smalling. Wales are getting deeper and deeper. Williams, Davies,

Chester, Taylor has been playing as a left back at times, they are

getting very deep, the Welsh backline.

That is good work again from Chester but the ball runs away from Ramsey.

He is Rooney. Alli is allowed to take it. Gets it back in the end.

Sturridge's shot is smothered. Here is Walker. Four in the box. Plenty

of Welsh defenders, too. Sturridge. Dier, that was rather lazily played

forward. There was space for Dele Alli, though, perfect position for

him when the Welsh backline was deep and Alli was allowed to get into the

space on the half term. He is becoming a growing influence in this

game. 20 minutes left, who will be the hero, who will be the

matchwinner? Will there be one? Wales are going to make another

substitution in a moment, it is as though Robbie Savage has a hotline

to Chris Coleman. Here is Danny Rose.

Now, England are really going to go for it, it would seem. Marcus

Rashford, with a word or two from his men talk, Gary Neville. The

first change is for Wales, Hal Robson-Kanu will make way for

Williams. You don't have to look so pleased for yourself! They are

getting overrun in midfield, they need an extra body, use the pace of

Bale, run the channels and get Wales up the pitch. Those stats don't do

him justice. Williams did very well in the first match, didn't he? No

surprises, there. It is looking as though Rashford is now going to come

on as well, talk about fairy tales. He is an outstanding talent, this

young man. Getting the full treatment today.

I think Ramsey has lost his footing more than most. Lallana, and with a

pat on the back, England have got the 18-year-old Manchester United

man ready for his competitive England debut, having scored 138

seconds into his first senior appearance against Australia just

the other week. Cannot find a way through to Alli

yet. England have got to get Sturridge more central, higher up

the pitch. Alli trying to deceive Ashley

Williams, who wasn't having any of it. Behind it goes, and on will come

Marcus Rashford. Adam Lallana is the player to go off for England. He has

covered pretty much every blade of grass on the field, he is going to

get a rousing sendoff from the England supporters, and all will

come Rashford, England's youngest ever player at the European

Championships, beating Rooney by four days, after his performance

against France all those years ago, 12 years ago. He is a young man with

a wonderful mentality as well, his temperament is perfect. Don't be

came from those in the stands, I have got to say. Gareth Bale have

Sturridge rather belatedly follows Taylor back into his own half.

That is what you would want, the isolation between Bale and Rose on

Walker against Taylor, we have seen that a lot today. Rooney sells the

dummy to Ramsey, great recovery, Williams in with Chester, both

together. In goes Dier, it will not break for Taylor. The ball goes out

of play. It is an onslaught of attacks, this is Wayne Rooney, but

look at the Welsh defenders come out to block this shot, passion from the

Welsh. It is a Premier League game being played out on the other side

of the Channel now. On the pitch now, it is human nature, you're

thinking, from the Welsh perspective, can we get a point? You

do drop deeper, you see the attacks coming, and you think, let's try to

protect this point. That is the worry, because England will have all

the possession, they will try to create everything. But look at this,

Martin has alluded to it, the passion, Chester and Williams

throwing themselves out to block it. They did it so, so well. Rooney just

giving the ball away, you cannot be sloppy, you have got to keep as

action, make it count now at this stage of the game. -- keep

possession. Alli has been left behind by Edwards here.

Nice change of direction, positive play from Jonny Williams! It could

have opened up for him, you can't blame him for having a go. Well, he

is in all sorts of space, a player who was on loan to MK Dons at the

end of the season, who got relegated. Look at him, he is

inspired. Just cannot hit the target.

He is going to power past Taylor, Allen is there to help out, and a

great bit of work from Joe Allen. Walker can moan all he likes, but

Joe Allen has done the right thing, got his body across, showing great

pace to get past Taylor. Look how he uses his body, it is a foul, Walker

is trying to get around him. If you are a defensive midfielder in this

situation, with your wing backs out of place or yours and a half not

getting over, you have to do that, and Joe Allen did it exceptionally

well. Team-mates for Team GB at the Olympics four years ago to Walker,

he is the best right back we have seen in this tournament so far. Joe

Allen was actually listed in the Olympics programme as English, I bet

that went down well! Rashford took the ball from Allen, but Edwards

promptly won it back for Wales. Williams is off again, making Joe

Hart think of it. Out of position, on his left foot as well. Again, and

other attack from England. Alli hesitated when might have been a

chance to put one up towards Vardy. They have got no out ball, Gareth

Bale has got to try to get there quick, but it keeps coming back.

though he is in the back garden with his mates, these are big steps in a

Premier League debut, then his first Manchester derby. Can he complete

the set today? Needless to say, Robbie Savage hopes not. Have you

got a rocking chair up here? You are rocking a bit! It is nerve wracking

times for the Welsh support, because England keep coming at them, keep

coming at them. Are they going to get the winning goal? Here is

Rooney, trying to do it all by himself.

It is too deep for Sturridge, he will chase but he is never going to

get there. Another tick in the box for the Welsh defence. Wales really

digging in, not wanting to give an ounce away. I feel his pain, Guy!

Come on, Wales, he is saying! Let's be fair, Martin, Wales are holding

on. That is it, they have decided, they are camped in their own half,

it is up to England to get that goal. That is what it means to

football fans. You have got to say, the England and Wales fans have been

Eric Dier has all too often not got the ball. He is moaning about

movement, but he needs to give the ball to Wayne Rooney and keep it

moving - wrong selection. Jamie Vardy has had almost one touch, one

looking for, someone to take charge in the box. Don't care about

reputations, just get it away. Settle yourselves in for a huge

have offered nothing going forward, can they hang on, and it would be a

great point. England have got to keep moving this board, keep

playing. It looks as though there are heavy legs out there now. This

is Rooney. Sturridge. He should be fresh having only played one half

and he has had a good half. Alli comes towards him and Vardy is in

England's this time! Talk about passion, talk about pride. This

England team have it in bucketloads. From 1-0 down, to winning the game.

Roy has rung in the changes. They have paid off. He just knocks it in

and then he goes and he gets it back. He gets lucky and he hits it

off his right foot, no chance for the keeper. How he gets through that

sea of players we will never know, but who cares? England are in front!

Just enough on it. To beat Wayne Hennessey, and to have Roy Hodgson

celebrating like a man 40 years his junior! Both substitutes, both

scoring, Roy Hodgson reacted well at half-time. Boy, did they celebrate

that goal! He got into the area, and he hits it quick. He toe pokes it.

Gunter went down. He uses him as a shield. Hennessey reacted late

because he could not see it. You have to say that over the 90

minutes, England have deserved it. The best part of a minute left yet.

Have the young lions learned their lesson of the weekend? That is

Cahill. It might only take one more chance for Wales. Taylor. Williams

is up there. Bale has attacked it! There was one more chance for Wales!

You could not put it past Bale. Look at this. What a leap. It comes out

of nowhere. Luckily he can't get it on target from an England point of

view. The Welsh are not giving up yet. England fans are singing. Their

anthem. Don't Take Me Home. CHEERING They are home and dry today. It

means everything. It's a win for St George and defeat for the Dragon. As

England put themselves into first place in group B. Which is set for a

thrilling conclusion on Monday night. Martin Keown and Robbie

Savage, if you have anything left... It was a gallant effort from the

Welsh, hanging on for dear life, but in the end that bit of quality, we

said that Sturridge was the most naturally gifted striker on the

bench. He wins it for England. It was a fantastic result in the end.

Positive substitutions from Roy Hodgson. Gareth Bale with a good

strike in the first half, mistake from Joe Hart, should have saved it.

I don't think Wales played that well as a team, they looked a bit nervous

and did not get forward much, hanging on, Wales, in the second

half. You have to say, Roy Hodgson reacted to that poor first half

performance from England, his substitutions have won England the

game. Fair play to England, fair to Roy Hodgson. Wales will fight to

live another day. A point against Russia will see Wales through. Well

done to both sets of supporters after this very good game, but well

done to England. Great drama, great game, great way to spend a Thursday

afternoon. Both teams could now go through to the last 16. STUDIO:

Gareth Bale, hugely disappointed of course. He put Wales ahead in that

game in the first half but England came back to win a game from behind

for the first time ever in a major tournament! Wayne Rooney, one of the

Joe Hart will be relieved after his error from the Gareth Bale free kick

in the first half. Look at the Wales team, getting together, they are

still very much in the tournament, they have lost this game but they

have three points and that this particular European Championships

there is a good chance of going through even if you finish in third

in the group. But overall England dominated the game. But it is

heartbreak for Wales right at the end. Joy for England? It was much

better in the second half, Roy did what he had to do and gambled and

brought in the substitutes. You put on a substitute because they have to

make an impact because something has not gone right or somebody is

injured but you say, go and make an impact, and those guys have done it

in the second half and they deserved it. It was possession, but there was

something at the end of it, we stretched them more and got bodies

in the box for once, and those guys have produced the goods. I will come

to you, Dean, John and Rio shortly, but first let's hear from Daniel

Sturridge, the winning goal scorer is with Gabby. Daniel, describe what

it's like to score the winner in a match like that. It's a great

feeling. It is unbelievable. I am grateful for the opportunity from

the gaffer, grateful to God for allowing me to score, and it's a

beautiful feeling to represent your country, and in a rivalry against

another great country. It's a great feeling. This match has a unique

atmosphere, can you relay what it feels like in the stadium? It is

great. There is only one more game in the group, so I don't want to get

too excited. But the atmosphere is unbelievable. There is not many

games where you experience an atmosphere like this, and the

togetherness between the two countries is amazing. It's a game

that puts England's victory, it puts them top of the group going into the

final game, it has turned the pressure stakes, your goal? As I

said before, you know, it's great to help the boys win the game, my

brother has travelled over here and my cousin, and for them to

experience this with me, as well as the other travelling fans, as I

said, it's a great feeling, and hopefully now we can get through. I

don't know if we through yet, but if we are, the next game against

Slovakia is important. You are not quite through yet, do you think this

was enough to earn you a start in the final game? That is up to the

gaffer. I just want to perform when I get the minutes. I am grateful for

the opportunity because I have huge faith in him and thanks to my family

and the fans. Thank you. The hugely important goal which puts England

top of group B, one point against the back year guarantees them

passage and a win will see them top the group. Wales, one point will

likely be enough to put them through either as the runner-up or as one of

the best third placed teams. So close to getting a result but in the

end, all credit to Roy Hodgson, he has put players with goal-scoring

instincts on the pitch and they looked as though they had run out of

ideas at one point, but Vardy, that is not a coincidence, the ball drops

to him in front of the keeper. He does that every week. When Sturridge

picks it up I thought, oh no, if he can play a one-two with someone.

Credit to the manager, positive substitutions and that is sickening

for the Welsh boys but both countries are still in it. Back to

Lens, we can hear from the Welsh goal-scorer Gareth Bale. Gareth, you

defended like heroes for long parts of that game, how difficult is that

result to take right now? Yes, massively disappointing, but I am

very proud of everybody. We gave everything, like wheel ways do, and

as I said before, we always give 100% and if we have no regrets we

can't do any more. Obviously we are very disappointed at the moment, but

inside we still feel strong, we still feel happy and we are enjoying

the experience. We still have one more game to go and the tournament

is not over yet, we are still in the thick of it and we go into the next

game with even more strength. That game against Russia now is so

important? Every game is important, we know that. As I said before, we

keep fighting all the way, we knew that if it wasn't a great result

today we would still be in the thick of things, and as I say, the fans

have been amazing, incredible scenes again. We thank them for their

support, and we will keep fighting to qualify. Gareth Bale, accents

waiting the positive, Wales are still very much in it. What did you

make of the England performance overall? They were probing, they

were pushing forward, that was great to see in the second half, the

fullbacks pushing further forward. And he brought on the strikers, we

criticised him in the media for his substitutions but we have to give

him credit this time, he brought five strikers and that is why, so

they can flood the box, chances fell to the right people. As for Wales, a

gallant performance, but ultimately, outplayed? Yes. Towards the end of

the game, and for most of the second half it was one team trying to win

the game and that was England. Wales were trying to hold on. I thought

the application and desire and commitment from the Welsh players

was there, as always. But we were just beaten by a stronger team who

showed a little bit more quality, which England have, that we didn't

today. Wales leading at half-time, vital

but England came out in the second half, Hodgson brought on Sturridge

and Vardy, and almost immediately Vardy scored, four goals out of five

shots on target in his England career. He had to make changes,

Gary, because what he was doing before and clearly wasn't working,

and before I go on, I have to give the officials tremendous credit.

Because to see this, in match play, in game time, a very good decision.

It actually comes off Ashley Williams' head, he is not offside.

But in that position, you will score goals, that is not a fluke. That

happens time and time again, and it is a very good decision, and a

superb finish. Obviously Gareth Bale did not spotted was his own defender

that nodded it back in. We didn't at first, but if you watch Vardy, he is

on the move, and that is the secret of scoring goals. That was the

finish that was needed in the last game as well. Do you know what? He

gambled on the hope that the ball was going to drop to him from two

yards out, and it paid off. We did not have that in the first half,

that threat, and the manager had to change it, and he did, and it has

worked perfectly, brilliant decision. Extraordinary finale,

Daniel Sturridge did it, a class act, wonderful footballer. If you

were going to bring someone on to score goals, he done that, and he is

probing on the edge of the box here, just waiting. When you have got the

ball here, as Dean said, this is beautiful from the forward, play and

run, something will happen, that is what you are told as a kid. Guiding

the ball in with his right foot, he gets his left forearm up against

Gunter, get off! And he has put it away, great bit of football, to be

honest with you. While Wales defended superbly for the whole

game, they were punished at the end. It is the lack of backlift from

Sturridge, the keeper has got no chance of reacting, because he has

taken it so quickly, like a little ping, brilliant finish. No question

that the substitutions had a real impact on the game. Sturridge looked

sharp, taking people on, some of his shots went awry, but he was trying

to make things happen. Strikers have an instinct that you cannot teach.

They go in the right place at the right time, and Lallana and Sterling

have not got that instinct, but the other two have. Rashford was on fire

as well. We done well, I thought we rode the storm and they had run out

of ideas. But it is the amount of quality on the pitch, that is not

luck, Vardy's goal, and neither is Sturridge's goal. The quality on the

pitch in the right areas, the strikers came on, they had to

defend, three centre halves occupied, allowing space for other

people, the fullbacks running forward, Rooney behind them, Dele

Alli had more influence on the game. But the manager done well today,

give him credit. We can hear from the first England goal-scorer, the

first Leicester player ever to score at a major tour in and for England,

Jamie Vardy. Congratulations, you came on, instant impact, what was it

like sitting on the bench and wanting to be part of the match? I

think everyone wants to be part of it, the plane starting line-up, but

it is a team game, there are 23 of us, we are all in it together. You

want to make an impact, and I have today. At half-time, we noticed you

and Daniel Sturridge did not come out, the boss had told you you were

coming on, what else was said? England the lion's share of

possession and territory, but Wales were defending magnificently. We

thought we were playing well, the message was to carry on doing what

we were doing and hopefully the goal would come. What was it like to play

in that atmosphere? It was incredible. It is good wherever we

play, our fans are always nice and loud, the 12th man. And the manager

showing great faith in his substitutions, but also the young

players, Marcus Rashford came on and looked very relaxed in that

environment. Yeah, he does, he has got a future ahead of him, that is

the reason he is in the squad, we will be back in the training pitch

now and looking forward to Tsubaki. In control of your destiny now. We

will take each game as it comes, hopefully we will get another win to

win the group. Does that goal put you in contention for a starting

place? We will have to wait and see! We will find out next game.

Certainly will not do him any harm, he played a part in the other goal,

with his back to goal. Some people think that does not suit Vardy, but

perhaps he proved them wrong. Let's remind ourselves of our Wales took

the lead with a very similar free kick to the first game, Gareth Bale.

He hits it with great power, the ball has moved, and he has done Joe

Hart. Some say the keeper should have saved it, and I just felt, you

know, we held on after this goal. This gave us a massive lift just

before half-time. England were dominant in the first half, they

missed several opportunities, and I just felt it was a little bit too

far to see out 90 minutes on the back of this. I think England,

especially with the substitutions, they were able to make, in Sturridge

and Vardy, England were just far too strong for us. Similar to the first

game. That is his reputation. But this one, this is bad from the

goalkeeper. Joe Hart, 40 yards out? Rio said to me, he is not going to

shoot from here, surely! Yazidi technique to get it up and down, but

still both of those. -- he has got the technique. But the keeper should

save it. Poor goalkeeping. Wayne Rooney as a midfield player, he

looks like he has played there all his life. We highlighted him before,

when you have talents like he has, he fills the game, no matter where

you play him on the pitch. He has got an idea of where to play,

wherever it is. His delivery is as good as anyone, that is why he was

not on free kicks and corners in the first game. He wants to perform, he

has got pride. He would not have been happy with the first game as

leader, and he showed today, not just when he has got the ball,

having the desire and the personality to want the ball all the

time. Great effort there. But more than anything, as I said, he wanted

to conduct, takes the ball, and to have the mettle to do that is a sign

of a great player. The kind of ran the show, Alan. Over the two games,

Gary, he is the one person that can come out of both games with

tremendous credit. I thought he was the man of the match in the first

game for England. I might add Walker as well. I would go along with that

as well, and he will be far away from man of the match tonight. He

was the one wanting to dictate play, he was the one who was prepared to

grab the game by the scruff of the net in the second half, drive

everyone forward, I thought he played very well, yeah. That area

was dominated, midfield, by England, and Wales could not get out. I agree

with what you said, Walker and Arose, like Olympic athletes, for 90

minutes, up and down the pitch. They called us all sorts of problems.

Let's hear from Adam Lallana. Congratulations, that was a real

team effort from England today, the manager throwing on substitutions

very early in the game there, and you played a huge part in that

performance today, describe what it was like. These are the games you

want to be playing in, representing your country at a major tournament.

We said before the tournament we would need every man of the 23, and

that has been shown today. He made a couple of changes, and both got on

the scoresheet, a massive part in a huge win for us. After the

disappointment of conceding late on against Russia, it did not diminish

the belief in English attacking play, and the speed of the ball in

the second half was really impressive. The pitch was a bit dry,

I know it is the same for both teams, but we said at half-time that

we might need to quicken things up, a few more combinations. With a bit

of patience, I thought we were brilliant, started well in the

second half, got the goal, we kept plugging away and got the goal in

the last minute off the back of conceding against Russia, that was

kind of nice, to get one in the last minute. What about the rivalry, the

Wales-England, England seem to be very much containing that, not

getting too caught up in the atmosphere? But could you enjoy the

atmosphere? Of course, it is everybody's job to build it up, it

is a massive occasion, but we kind of know that we wanted to do our

talking on the pitch, it is still early days yet. We are not sure if

we are through, Wales are not sure. It is a great occasion, nice to come

out on top. But you control your destiny now. Yes, four points with

one tough game remaining, but we are full of confidence and cannot wait

until Monday. Hearing from Adam Lallana brings us onto the width

aspect of England's play, which in the second half was provided by the

fullbacks, but in the first-half, there was a lack of wit. They were

very comfortable in the first half, other than the Sterling chance. But

look at the two fullbacks, on the right-hand side you got Walker, on

the left-hand side you have got Rose, you are giving them that, the

two wingbacks of Wales, different problems - do you go out to mark

them all stay inside? This is the first half, where there were no

options for England. If Sterling was to get out there, like in the second

half, asking different questions at the centre halves and there

wingbacks. We did it, I think, much better in the second half than we

did in the first half. He changed it, Roy, and he gave the freedom of

both fullbacks second have to get up there. But it just wasn't happening,

because of Sterling's game was not honoured, he is not on form. That is

what the full-back and the midfielders were faced with. Not

offering an option, not offering to go behind, not giving us the width,

Sterling, like you should have been in the first top. The changes

worked. We are going to get a few words from Wayne Rooney, but for the

Wales fans, we are not ignoring them, they have just not come out of

the dressing room yet. The England captain. OK, congratulations, a

magnificent England performance, the result left late. Yeah, it was, the

first I thought we did OK, we just had to move the ball quicker.

Unfortunate to go 1-0 down, and the second half, the manager made some

positive changes, and it has paid off for us. We were fantastic in the

second half, we made Wales work hard, kept the ball, probing at

them, got the win in the end. Showed a lot of character today, I am sure

everyone in the dressing room will be delighted. The manager has spoken

quite a lot over the last couple of weeks about how this is a squad,

this is about substitutions being as important as the starting XI in any

of these matches, and you need that strength in depth, England have

proved they have that today. Yeah, you do. I think we know as a group

of players we are not just 11 men, we have got 23 players in the squad,

and we are all capable and we are all confident and trust each other

to the lack that whoever is plain, they will do a good job. We have

shown that we have gotten very exciting players, we played some

great stuff. It is just a great feeling to win the game the way we

did, and I think that will almost qualify us, with one game to go, we

will have to finish the job on Monday. Finish top of the group.

Yeah, we can, and at half-time we had to believe we could win the game

and keep going. We kept pushing, we got it, so I think it was a great

victory, well-deserved. As someone who knows him well, at least were

you for Marcus Rashford to come out, the youngest player in Ait-Atmane

for England? Yeah, he will be delighted. I have not seen him in

the dressing room, but I am sure he is delighted, I am really pleased
