Today sees the start of the final round of group games. It is the last

time for the Group A teams in Lyons. Romania have only won one ever at a

European Championship and will try and double that at the stadium. It

has not been dream for Albania. They have no goals and zero points.

Victory today might be enough to qualify for the last 16.

So, two teams with plenty to play for today and two men with plenty of

opinions here with me in the studio. It is great to see the two of you.

Both teams here have to win this game in Lyons. Considering they have

not won one yet for a great spectacle. You look at Albania and

they are unfortunate not to get any points out of the games. The first

Romania against France, we saw how difficult they made it for France.

It will be a big game. They both have to go for it and both try and

win. I am excited. I want to see two teams who have had a lot of the ball

but cannot score goals. Host France were going to be the ones to beat.

There has not been much between all four teams so far.

It is time for kick-off. A header off the post and France

comes so close. Attacks it and scores... The referee

gives the penalty. 1-1. They are leaving this late, France. And what

a wonderful goal! A late, late show for the hosts. Looking ahead to the

back of the net. Switzerland are ahead inside the

first five minutes of the game. There was a bit of a shirt tugged

there and a penalty given. The squad against France and scores against

Switzerland. 57 minutes on the clock... Better

get on with it. And that's the equaliser.

We are about to go into the final five minutes and still we await our

first goal. There is still time for a chance or

two. Oh, what an untimely slip! The day

is saved for France. The hero of the hour... He can seal the deal here

and he has. Two goals right at the death. Albeit very, very late.

So France have qualified For the second round. A draw would see them

and Switzerland both definitely through to the last 16, with four of

the sixth fourth placed teams qualifying. Romania and Albania have

a big incentive to go for that win tonight. One man who has been

keeping an eye on this has been talking to us.

How are you surviving as a fan? It is not easy. I just want the

national team to do well. The Stade de France is a nerve-tingling

experience tonight... We've had a lot of emotions.

What a wonderful goal! I was watching the game, the first one I

was all over the place. I screamed when we conceded a penalty. The

second one, I was thinking, well, a point is not too bad and then

Griezman scored. It saves the day for France. You can see that they

are not there yet in terms of how they can play. But, you know,

positive, because we are through. In all fairness, you have to give

credit, a lot of credit to Romania and Albania. We have seen recently,

in some of the games, it is not easy. It is not easy to win.

I can understand that sometimes people prefer this or that, but we

are all in it together. This is the team we have. We will have to

perform and support the team. Against Romania and against Albania.

That is what the crowd did. So, so far, so good. Let's hope that

maybe the team can play better. I tell you what, if they win the

tournament, every time there is a goal at the last minute and not

playing so well, I don't care - so long as we win.

Here on BBC Four we are concentrating on the big game in

Lyons. Two teams fancy their chances of making it through. That is the

advantage of expanding it to 24 sides. The new expansion of 24

teams, you look at it and you think, there'll be some teams there are not

good enough to perform at this level, but from the results we have

seen everyone has come prepared. Everyone has read it and defensively

organised. They are not giving away anything cheaply. It is scoring at

the other end. You get to see new players. You get to see new talent.

Oh, I didn't realise he played there! It is nice to see these two

smaller nations, when it comes to football, they have still got a

sniff. They have got to go to the next level. At the moment they are

similar how they have played. They have to go to the next level and

then they could go to the next round if they score enough goals. In

qualifying that is what these teams showed. 11 for Romania. 10 for

Albania. Did you expect them to go for it? I don't think they will be

gung ho. They will be aware of what is going on behind them when they

are going forward. At some stage, especially Albania, they need to get

that win. They need to get that win. I think three points might give them

a chance to get to the knockout chances. Albania are not helped by

the fact their all-time leading score retired three years ago. Their

second one is a defender. Left them in the lurch. You are

right and I have watched them, the other two games of Albania and they

play some really good stuff. They gave France a huge scare. France had

to play and play and play. They could not break them down. Albania

played toe-to-toe. Against Switzerland the captain was sent off

after 36 minutes and it took until the end that they got that goal. If

you want to have your say on how this and the other Euro 2016 games

will go play predictor game. There will be England's game against

Slovakia tomorrow. Gabby has been speaking to the

defensive linchpin that is Chris Smalling.

Congratulations on the victory over Wales. Was it tough to not get

caught up in all the kind of trash talk really. You all seemed to be

very calm. Was that a concerted effort? It was. I think as soon as

the groups were announced, I think we all knew the his tierry ya and

all that would come. As players we kept compose and knew we would let

our feet do the talking on the pitch. Were you able to dip in and

savour that as well? Especially when the winner came in you could see all

the subs t coaching staff and everyone, I think, really lived that

moment. You say the coaching staff. There was only one member of the

coaching staff that made it right into the ma lay. Were you surprised

to see Gary Neville there? I think our coach was passionate. It is

great to see when you see the passion overriding everything and

you celebrate as a team. What is it like being one of three centre

halves in this team - which was a strange choice for Roy to leave

himself exposed. Do you think you have to wrap yourself up in cotton

wool? That is often when you can pick up an injury. My game is very

much aggressive and I like to be on the front foot. I never hold back

and try and play my game, no matter what. A lot of worries were towards

the defence. It proves it more to anchor yourself that we are the men

who are chosen and we are good enough to prove that. When you step

off the bus before the training session and your knee with a bandage

on it and everybody jumps on that as an injury, you realise people are

fearful. It is nice to be cared for. I got so many messages from friends

and family about that. That was almost a normal recovery for me, so

I am tip-top for the next competition. England put themselves

into the first place in Group B. I think everyone may be more relaxed

because we got that win. It is about moving on now and making sure that

we finish this job and finish top of the group. What about Slovakia? They

were unlucky in the first game. They have two attacking winners who

switch it on in big games. The fact they need a result will open up gaps

for us. At some point they'll have to open up and attack.

It will be interesting to see how Roy approaches the game on Monday.

It is a question everyone is asking, will Vardy and Sturridge start? I am

not sure they will both start. What I would say is I think you look at

Kane and his performances. I feel he looked really tired. I think, not

only for Harry Kane, to give him a rest, but for the players like Vardy

and Sturridge not to lose them. If you play Kane and he's off it, it

doesn't matter how they are doing in training they will never get that

start. I feel it is very important, psychologically that Roy man-manages

the players really well and makes the right call, whatever that is. Do

you agree? As Trev said on the bench, you don't want to lose the

bench. You do not want to lose the players' positive attitude. If you

start to lose them it will be difficult. What we have seen there

is a player, in Daniel Sturridge, who can do something that the other

forwards cannot do. They cannot make something out of nothing. When it

comes to a little bit of skin, I am talking about. -- a little bit of

skill. Half-time n the last game, Harry was

not working for them. Sterling was not having the best of games. They

will hold their hands up to that. Play to their strengths. Get the

ball to them. Over the top and look what happened. Roy sees him

day-to-day. He can make the call. What about any situations or

decisions to be made in midfield. Do we stick with Rooney in there? For

me, definitely. Wayne has been very brave. He knows the nation is on his

shoulders. Let him do what he wants to do. He will always affect a game,

because he's that good. Give him a lot of the ball and he will make

lots of things happen and that young lad as well, Alli. That is another

you mentioned before we came on air. You said he looks tired as well. One

of his biggest fans, but he's had a long, long season. It remains to be

seen what Roy does on Monday. Despite their loss to England, Wales

are very much in control of their own destiny, of course, after their

game against Russia. Key to their chances is the captain, Ashley

Williams. Injury time, it is England's best

chance... It is a win for St George and defeat for the dragon.

Ashley Williams watched an almost guaranteed place in the next round

slip away in the dying seconds. This man is not deterred. Ashley

Williams, the captain, the rock. Right at the end of the game, you

all went into a big huddle, just by the Wales fans. What was said there?

I wanted to say, don't walk off the pitch with your head down. Be proud

of what we have achieved so far. For the fans no t to go off the pitch

and everything is doom and gloom. We moved and got our mind as sharp as

it can be for the Russia game. This is the biggest game of our careers,

really. We will have our game plan, which obviously I will not say now.

We understand that maybe a draw might be enough for us. We don't

want to risk that. We want to go out there and play.

He's obviously nice guy and everybody gets on with him.

Whichever team he's in, he's the loudest guy there. If you lead the

team you can be vocal, but have to be a good leader on the pitch. He

can stay at a good level. Ashley Williams...

Some people call yourself "The Rock" - how do you see yourself? Always

think I can be a better leader of the group. How would you like the

other guys to describe you? What I'd like or what you think they'd say?

What you'd like? Positive. Always trying - I'm always trying to be

positive and hopefully they would say that he does his best in which

ever way he can. Who calls him "The Rock"? Who started that one? What do

you think they'd say? He's loud and obnoxious and annoying. Trevor

thought they were talking about a chocolate! Let's start with you,

Dion. Do Wales need picking up after what happened against England? No. I

think there is enough within that dressing room, there's enough

winners and strong characters to pick themselves up. They know how

good they have done so far. They know how unfortunate they were not

to get a draw against England. I thought England just deserved it in

the end. Wales will be thinking, God, just those few minutes we let

ourselves down. They will think, right, this is it, let's have a go.

Let's not lose it, but let's have a go and get our form back. Nice touch

from Chris Coleman to take them out of the confines of the hotel set-up.

Gareth Bale has admitted they have gone for burger and chips! They need

that. You can go stir crazy in the rooms. It does get boring. You can

only have a certain amount of games of pool. I think that is really

important. Going back to what Dion said, I think they would have been

deflated if it weren't for the captain. He knocked that on the head

straightaway. He said, listen, be proud of what we have achieved, we

were unlucky. Let's train tomorrow and start looking at the next game

against Russia. That is what they will do. I have no doubt they will

do well in that game. Two of Wales' three goals scored by Gareth Bale.

We are yet to see the best of him? He's good at this. We know he can do

this. We can talk about both goalkeepers saying... Could have

done better. Whatever. But we know how good he can be and again his

standards are so high that he's still got gears to go through, he's

probably in third gear at the moment. He's still scored. The key

is to get him on the ball, you know, at Real Madrid they have 70% of

possession and they get it in the final third and he can enjoy

themselves. Wales won't have that kind of possession. It is about

getting him in. Let him have a free role and let him find where he can

get on the ball and affect the game and if he does that, and he adapts

to each game, he will get on the ball and he will be more

influential. A big game for the Welsh. You can catch coverage of

Lille where there is so much to play for. That is the magic of this

tournament. Romania and Albania, it is very much on for them? Keeping

the last game alive. We couldn't say that in 2012. With this format, it

keeps this last game well open. Both sides have a lot to play for. You

have seen Albania twice. Have they been unlucky? Yes. In the

Switzerland game, when they went down to ten men, they were still

creating chances. Sadiku missed two sitters. They have Lenjani on the

wing, who is good up-and-down, but it was all about containing France.

In that Switzerland game, they deserved something from it. They

have some good players. The Romanian newspapers are saying that it is a

match of a generation. You get the feeling, don't you, that these

French fans really think this is their year, not just to top the

group, but also to win the tournament? In general, they were

one of the favourites at the start of the tournament. When you go into

the tournament and you start to get a couple of good wins - the

performances haven't been great - but there is growing momentum.

Speaking to supporters, they feel this is their time. Also a great

opportunity for Switzerland. Imagine the psychological damage the Swiss

will do if they win tonight? That is the thing. Look at the Swiss, they

have quality in the team. Thank you very much. We are just delighted

Ireland and Wales aren't playing tonight, so we can come to a match

and enjoy it. Back to you. Thank you, Jason and Kevin. Team

news from Romania and from Albania. Five changes as far as Romania are

concerned. As far as they go, though, they are lacking goals. They

have had one person score both of their opening goals so far, both

from the penalty spot, in Stancu. That tells you the quality they are

lacking in that final third. They are very organised. They don't

concede a lot of goals. And they get the ball forward. When they get the

ball into them creative areas, they haven't got the players that can

create too much. They have not got that player that slows everything

down and picks a spot and finishes things off. That is why you lot get

paid all the money! Not me. Alibec is starting up font for Romania?

They will want Alibec to stay in between the width of the posts, stay

where we are going to attempt to get the ball to, don't go roaming over

the place. It is a hard job playing up front on your own. He needs

runners down the wings. He will be a danger. Going to the five changes,

Michael O'Neill did that with Northern Ireland and it worked. You

can see the lads are training hard, they are chomping at the bit to get

on the pitch. This is the Albanian 11 that's been chosen. Gianni De

Biasi has chosen this 11. They haven't recalled Cana. There is only

one change, Basha comes in for Kukeli. They have stuck with one up

top. They both need goals here. Are we surprised by that? I am. They

have to score, today they both have to score. They have gone 4-3-2-1.

That is a slight different formation. He will have two players

closer to him, just in the hole. They will have closer contact to the

lone striker. Again, it is about supply and it is about getting your

back four to do their job. You stay there and allow those forward

players to do what they have to do. If you start bombing down the

full-backs, you will get picked off. Romania can do that. They have

players that can cheat and go into that hole and wait for the full-back

to come back. It is too late. Be careful at the back. There is no

talisman for Romania. For Albania, is it a case of learning on the

bigger stage? I'll go back to Cana, he got the red card. He was

ill-disciplined. He had a yellow card and he just, he needed to stay

on his feet and it was ill-discipline for me. The manager

has teached him a lesson. De Biasi will get the respect of the players

for making that decision. He left him for 60 minutes with ten men and

it's a big call. It is. Romania have looked strong on set-pieces so far.

Yes. The delivery has been very good. There hasn't been anybody

there. They haven't gambled, they haven't said, right, let's put

players in there and go for it. They have got, or should I say they have

had corners and free kicks in good areas, the delivery has been good,

but they have not got on the end of it. It is all about goals tonight.

The teams are on their way out at the Stade de Lyon. High time we

COMMENTARY: We are almost ready to go with this final Group A fixture.

Two sides with a point between them so far, who do still have hopes of

reaching the last 16. Romania aR -- arrived in France with the best

defensive record of all during qualifying. Albania, making it to

their first major finals was a cause of celebration in itself. Both aim

to finish the group stage on a high. Romania keen to add to the point

against the Swiss. Albania are striving for their first point.

previous 15 matches at the finals over the years. A famous 3-2 victory

over England back in 2000. Albania have certainly kept their

games tight and they have been unlucky to reach this point

empty-handed. Probably should have got a draw against the Swiss, even

with ten men for half the match. Here is the Romania side. Anghel

Iordanescu has made five changes in all. Razvan Rat went off injured

against Switzerland. He is replaced today by Alexandru Matel. Denis

Alibec comes in to win his sixth cap and leads the attack instead of

Claudiu Keseru. Our referee tonight is Pavel

Kralovec from the Czech Republic. He took charge of Northern Ireland's

2-0 win over Ukraine here in Lyon on Thursday, briefly taking the players

awful during a hailstorm. Lorik Cana on the bench having

served his suspension against France. Albania's level shows one

enforced change to the side that made life difficult for France on

Wednesday. Migjen Basha comes in for his first appearance of the

tournament. Lorik Cana was suspended the other day after being sent off

against Switzerland, but he has to content himself with a place on the

bench. Gianni De Biasi sticks with Arlind Ajeti in defence. On the

bench, Costel Pantilimon. We are almost ready to go, as I

mentioned at the start, just one point between them. They have kept

their games close. They haven't been beaten by more than a single goal,

Romania drawing their most recent match. Alongside me in the

commentary box is Mark Lawrenson. Both teams have not scored many

goals, so all the best. A header for Basha. His first touch

of the game. It was difficult for the hosts at

the stadium. A goal within the last three minutes of the game. One on

paper which looked a routine victory, but it was anything but.

Also Romania against France as well, that game, they gave as good as they

got. It was obviously the quality that was difference. Albania do

struggle to score goals. Here is Sadiku, trying to thread the

ball towards the near side. Ledge ledge. Albania looking to make

a quick start here. Lenjani capable of decent shots from

outside the penalty area. They have only beaten Romania twice

and not since 1948. It is difficult if you are not a team that scores

goals to manufacture goals out of, basically, nothing. He's got them

organised well. Every single team in this competition, are in inverted

come mass, organised. We are not great going forward, but we don't

concede too many goals. Albania have to throw and Agolli

will take it. The first touch here for Alibec, who is one of those

coming into the side today. Whipped out wide. A long old chase format

mat. He's made it and kept the ball in.

And the first shot of the mat Stncu. If anything good will happen it will

probably come from Stancu. He scored a stunner against Lithuania in that

game and has scored three since then.

Not to be mixed up with Stancu. Stancu scored both of the goals that

were scored thus far. Not related. A r a nasty blow on the head format

mat. Caps for Rat. Injuries have affected

him as they have here at this tournament. Ruling him out of the

starting XI, for this match. Played towards Popa.

Berbatov made a nervous start against Switzerland. Conceded after

five minutes. Poor goal keeping there. He made up for it for the

rest of the match. Another nervous beginning for him here.

It was not particularly well struck. Maybe just bounced in front of him.

Not a good sign, is it? Romania moving the ball around

reasonably well here. Popa tries to go skipping forward.

He covered so much ground. He probably needs to standstill a

little bit, as dafr as that sounds for his team-mates to hit him. You

can see Albania getting to the final third, it is a little bit like they

come out in a rash, don't they? Straight on to the head of Ajeti. He

was superb against France the other night. He went off, seemingly

injured in the last few moments of the game. The man who replaced him

lost his marker when France scored soon afterwards. When you say

seemingly injured? I thought he was injured. He looked injured. It may

have been cramp. The first yellow card of the match

to Basha. I am saying nothing. Such a poor

tackle. In all honesty... Look, a straight red for that. That is wild.

Basha by name, basher by nature. Hoban, I think, will be OK. Basha in

the book. He's been with Italy, serry B since the beginning of the

year. The referees have been lenient, they have been good, very

keen to keep the games flowing. In some of the games they have been

better than the players. The Refs. It is good to see he's in one piece.

And it is Andrei Prepelita who will take this kick for Romania. You get

injured and have to go off so you are done to ten men. Somebody needs

to change that rule. Away to Matel...

Forward by Hoban. Off the head... Oh, a good save by Berisha. What a

poor header. What a fantastic strike that is. Romania are still putting

the pressure on here with Prepelita... Support provided by

Sapunaru. Romania certainly in the opening

eight minutes of the game carrying a threat moving forward.

It is very, very early, but they look a cut above.

What a strike this is. It is a poor header, isn't it? Straight in the

air, to the box. He wasn't sure about the goalkeeper. He crosses his

hands, doesn't he? Not quite... Yes, he does.

Tatarusanu plays for Italily. They have decent players, don't

they, Romania, but not the star names we 've had in the past.

The manager was just off the bench there as well, saying to Alibec,

show for the ball, come and show for the ball when the rightback had it.

The coach is animated. He will not change. He will get

worse. Who did the manager play for?

Bucharest. I think I might have played against him once or twice.

Did he play up front? I don't remember that. I don't remember

anything, that is why I asked you. I think he was a midfielder. OK.

Romania's coach of the 21st century. His third spell in charge of the

Romanian national team. Albania just struggling to hang on

to the ball even when they get it. It is a little bit of a hot potato.

Agolli plays in Qatar now. Spreading the ball wide.

Sapunaru... Look he's chasing again. He will

only last 60 minutes. Grigore played against Albania,

alongside Chiriches. They helped Romania have a 1-0 win, away in

Albania, in May, a couple of years ago. Unbeaten in the last 13

fixtures against Albania, the Romanians.

The captain of Albania, a red card in the first half of the game

against Switzerland has cost him dearly, suspension and now left out.

Sadiku goes hurtling after it. The flag is up on the far side.

He would chase a paper bag in the park, wouldn't he?

The right call from the officials. They're off, they're off.

Lila on that far side, Lila didn't start against the Swiss came in for

the last game and clearly holding Matel back.

It is with Romania, dominating the early possession here.

Despite, that it is theal banian fans who are making all the noise in

the stadium. Alibec, hustling, bustling and

bullish... Didn't quite send that shot dipping under the crossbar. It

was unlucky. It was a tidy sequence of events. He stuck at it,

surrounded by two players. He had a little look. Didn't seem too far

away. This will tell us. Did well there. Had a really good season for

his club's side. 16 goals in 26 matches in the league.

Ajeti coming offer second best there. Getting a decision from the

referee. A good partnership with Mavraj.

The block is made by Ovidiu Hoban. Alibec hooking that one hoping that

Alexandru Matel was some way further forward. He should have kept going.

He knocked the ball into Alibec and went to make the run. Alibec had his

back to him and he is still thinking he is on a run and it would have

been a good ball. Romania looking to get out of the group stages at the

European Championships for the first time. And they were here in '84, the

last time it was held in France. The referee is letting the game

flow. I thought that was a foul. The one before was a foul.

The Romanian player ran at him when he was heading the ball. Romania

will have the free kick. The other one was more of a foul

than the foul that was given. No, I don't believe I have seen

that! That was wildly optimistic. I do not believe I have seen that. How

far do you reckon this was? What was he thinking? He might have been

thinking, Simon, goal! That is what he was thinking. What he was doing

was completely separate. Straight out of play. It's pretty

scruffy. We didn't expect anything else.

The football that has been played so far has been played by those in

yellow. Yes. They have strung a few passes together, Romania. A good

shot on goal as well. I think - I don't think the competition has

taken off yet. When you start to look at the sides who we think -

some we already know - and who will be in the round of 16, I think that

is when the competition will really begin. It is a bit like the

Champions League. Early-league stages, give-and-take. Knockout

stage - yes. Stancu, in towards Alibec. He is the

only one in the Albanian team playing for a top European team.

Popa once again. The referee says no foul there. Away come Albania.

Space in midfield for Migjen Basha. Options left and right. Clearly

decided to choose neither. That's the problem, when you don't score

many goals, you think you can score from everywhere and anywhere!

Wasn't a bad idea. Just a poor delivery. That's gone quick.

Ciprian Tatarusanu conceded two in ten matches during qualification. Is

he not the tallest goalkeeper in the competition? He looks it from here.

They look for Popa on this near side. I think he is, I'm sure

Jonathan Pearce said he was in the first game against the French.

Armando Sadiku having trouble controlling the ball. Sapunaru, the

player down on the ground. This is why. It is a foul. I'm not quite

sure why he was rolling around. Albania are not out of it, even

though they haven't got any points yet. If they could win this match,

they will hope that they are one of the better-placed teams. Looks like

they are waiting for a bus! The delivery from Stancu was not a

good one. Cleared away by Sadiku, now back with Andrei Prepelita.

Given away. Sadiku leaves it, Abrashi. Lenjani that, is better

from Albania. Armando Sadiku feeding it through, could be an opportunity

here. Into the centre, oh what a miss! Lenjani, a golden opportunity

for what would have been Albania's first-ever goal at a major

tournament. Ermir Lenjani had the goal at his mercy. Great ball in as

well. Two passes in that move. The pass for the right-back here was

fantastic. But, but Matel decided to push up, and he caused his team a

problem. Wow, if you are not going to score them, you are not going to

score any. I don't know why he has to slide in. He's not used to being

in there. Why would you give the thumbs up to someone when you have

missed a sitter? What an opportunity. Those fans know...

Their fans are great because the cheering gets louder when they get

in the opposition half. I would suggest that is the best chance they

have created in the competition. Sapunaru is really struggling here.

There's the challenge made by Lenjani on the full-back. It doesn't

seem that bad. He caught him on the ankle. Unless he's caught him on the

over for the third spell. In 15 matches, they have only lost twice.

Sapunaru down, continuing his tussle with Lenjani. Didn't take much to

send him tumbling. Those two are not getting on terribly well. No. Who's

brought in by the Gareth Bale money. I didn't think he did that bad in

fairness to him. Moved on, hoping for more first team opportunities

with Napoli and they have been hard to find as well. 17 appearances this

season, eight in the league. Still, the main man at the back for

Romania. They have settled into this game,

Albania. He's got a look of Norman Lamont,

Anghel Iordanescu. He has. It is almost like being called

Savage! No free kick. Away comes Dragos Grigore. Romania cannot keep

the ball. It is as though they are rattled by the outstanding chance

that Albania have had. If you are 6ft 5in-plus, you should

be able to win those in the air and preferably keep hold of them.

Adrian Popa making a move. The ball was rather hopeful. Etrit Berisha is

happy to see that go behind. It is just that spell. When you are not

passing it, they try more difficult passes, which is the time when you

should go, hold on, let's start rolling it into feet, yellow

players, into feet, and get our rhythm going again. At the moment,

Romania have lost it after looking by far the better of the two teams.

The control not so good. Basha able to make an interception.

The chance is at a premium here in this opening half an hour. The best

one falling to Albania so far. Thumped away by Hoban. It hit the

wires, didn't it? It did. In the last 15 minutes of the first half.

The wires being the wires that carry the spider cam that slides around

above the players. I would have thought there would have been a rule

This is better. A bit more composed from Albania. In all seriousness, in

the last ten minutes they have looked the better team. Getting it

down and playing and passing it easily. Waiting for the moment to

press on. Well, they played over half the match with ten men against

Switzerland. Having been at the match they deserved a draw in the

game. Listen, they have swam the channel to be here. And they have

made life difficult for France, haven't they? Very much so.

He may get a second chance here. Lenjani... Yellow shirts are

blocking his path. Away come Romania. Sliding in to win it back.

Doesn't it make the game better when you have tackles? It does, doesn't

it? It is all action there. Committed.

are keen to keep up the pressure here. Brilliant play!

He's got to pull it back. He's doing absolutely fantastically. He did

brilliantly to get himself in that position and the bottom line is,

now, have a look, have a look. Unfortunate. Such a waste. Memushaj,

the play-maker in their side. There you go. Carrying the wrath of

Sadiku, the centre forward. Albania on the front foot here, looking for

the first goal. Ten minutes before half-time and Basha thumps it over

the top. That is a training ground corner. Albania had seven players in

the opposition penalty area. I just thought maybe it had bounced

up a little bit. It bounced newspaper front of him, so he

wouldn't have seen it. Didn't go down well. You could possibly say

that. A good many of these players were in

the Swiss system and playing for Switzerland.

Fine, isn't it? It is a good generation of players they have got.

It will be Romania's ball. We have not seen much after a bright start.

Extremely disappointing. Here is Memushaj again. Does he get his head

up? That picture doesn't tell the true story.

Further to the right there was another black-shirtedal banian

player in a fantastic position. I tell you what, half-time, it

remains the same, Simon. The Romanian manager, who is old

school, he will tear into his team, absolutely tear into them.

Albania with a man down. I think he will be OK. They don't

have to wait. Play on. The referee decides, doesn't he?

There was just Basha's foul. Well, a yellow.

There is a confidence Albania are playing now, the longer this first

half plays on. They seem to be winning the second ball all the

time. Into Sadiku and the flag goes up. He

was offside. The centre-back has come out. You can see how well

coached they are, centre-back has come out. Created a space on the

ball. He played a lovely ball. Sadiku was just a couple of yards

offside. Lila was screaming for the ball on

the far side. To be honest with you, stick it through the middle, that is

where you look because that is where the danger is if you get through.

Stanciu has been quiet for a while and Stanciu and Stanciu.

Popa up against Mavraj. . I mean from the halfway line, because...

Stanciu then with the delivery. It is Alibec trying the flick.

like the sheepdog trails and they all take notice of him.

it, could he? He needed to have a soft foot on it. He nearly in an

excellent position there. Alibec, snatched the ball from his

to run forward -- his team needs to run forward.

Again for Romania. There's... Oh, my goodness. It is

Groundhog Day every time we get the ball going forward.

Three minutes, plus added time, in the first half. Are Romania going to

finish the first half strongly here? Sapunaru, looking for Alibec... Too

much on it. Of skidded off the surface as well.

There has been a lot of heavy rain before this match, as well as the

watering. It just runs away from him.

There's theal banian crowd again... -- DUP there's the Albania crowd

again. In towards Sadiku and a header...

And Albania have scored. Sadiku... A towering header into the

far corner of the net. An historic moment for Albania football. The

first major goal... It is Romania, 0. Albania, 1.

That was a really clever header by Sadiku. Long, right-footed, a deep

cross and he kept waiting and waiting and waiting. The goalkeeper,

Tatarusanu... A clever header. He headed it back the way it's come

from. He's watching it, and watching it.

What is the goalkeeper doing? For goodness sake! It is a really,

really clever header and exactly what Albania deserve.

Well, what a moment for the fans and for Albanian fans around the world

to celebrate. Their team have fought so hard here

in this group stage. They played well. They have come up short in the

matches they played. Now, at last, they really have something to

celebrate. And the referee is coming over here

to the fourth official. There was a flare thrown on to the

pitch behind the goal. Surely the fourth official has not

told him that, because you can see it.

It is now being carried away by a steward, away down the tunnel n the

corner of the stadium and the match can resume.

The ball into the centre. There is a solidity about Albania.

We are into the two minutes of added time now. What response will we get

from Romania here? The snapshot from Alibec and Berisha right behind the

ball. I don't know if you saw Tatarusanu - he went to blame the

centre-back. Great reward for Sadiku, who must have run a hundred

miles in the two-and-a-half matches he's played. Yes, well done to him.

Stancu - Romania will be looking to his influence now to try and craft a

way back into the match. Basha, up to Sadiku. Still another minute to

go before half-time. Albania will be desperate to hang on

to the slender lead that they have. Sadiku, the only man over the

halfway line. Easy for Grigore. Matel, under

pressure. Is there time for one last chance in

the first half for Romania, who are looking for an equalising goal?

The last few seconds of this first half. A check of the watch from

gives Albania a half-time lead they deserve. Basha blasted over. Sadiku

STUDIO: Thanks very much to Simon and Mark for the time being. They

are in Lyon for the start of the second half. What a turn-up for the

books. Who would have thought Albania would have gone in 1-0 at

half-time? Not me, not you, or you! They were not in the game. They were

trying to get into Romania, they frightened Romania physically and

the game changed in the last 20 minutes of the first half. Fair play

to Albania. Their plan has worked so far. And they didn't really let the

first, as Dion said, Trevor, didn't put them off their game plan, they

stuck at it? Absolutely. De Biasi has said, the shackles are on, get

physical, let them know you are there, and once the game settles

down, we will have a little look. A little bit put them into a false

sense of security and that is what they have done. They have created

chance after chance since then. Let's look at that first piece of

history, the first goal for Albania at a European Championships scored

by Armando Sadiku. A good header, but made a bit easy by the fact the

goalkeeper had a bit of a rush of blood to the head. He's worked

tirelessly. That there is an incredibly difficult technique to do

when you have got a keeper coming rushing at you. It is even more

difficult because he is flapping. But he stayed calm. He did. And he

heads it into an empty net. What was the keeper doing? No-man's-land.

Let's not forget about the cross. That cross... The cross was alright.

That is your job. He put a bit of fade on it. It was a driven cross.

He took the goalkeeper out of it. The goalkeeper thought he was coming

for it. Then it is about the execution, staying calm with the

header. It's a technique knowing how to cross the ball in a certain way,

which the keeper thinks, I can get this, and then he can't because he's

faded it away from him. As a centre forward, you know how the cross is

coming in, so you go away first. It is knowing how your players work,

what kind of cross you are going to get. Lila must have been saying,

don't come for that! We have seen this a few times this season, one

team clearly the dominant, will they be left to rue their missed chances?

We saw Portugal against Austria yesterday. What about Romania,

Stancu heavily involved. We like the number nine as well. Alibec is a big

unit, looks like he is 6ft 4in. They went to him. He held it up. This is

what p has. -- this is what happens. They are getting strikes on goal.

This is Hoban's chance as well. Romania, one or two of these were

speculative chances. They are. Going down the left-hand side, Hoban and

Stancu are switching all the time, sharing the work. Have a look at

this. The technique for Stancu there, it is coming over his

shoulder, and to connect like that, the execution was superb. Good stop.

That is a difficult chance. I tried that many times in training, it went

straight over the bar, like that! You can see what he is trying to do

here. At that time, Romania were on top, Alibec was strong, he was

getting into areas where he could take shots on, he was bringing

players into play. They were going forward, but then the tables turned

on 23 minutes. We said that. When Lenjani missed that goal, which was

offside. The table has turned and Albania said, we have kicked, they

don't like it, let's show them what else we've got. Let's have a look at

the kicking. Those two chances, they clearly went about roughing up

Romania in the opening ten minutes. That is an obvious elbow. Look at

that. And this one. We see Harry Kane get kicked in the face, similar

to that, against Portugal. That is a red card for me. It is. So

dangerous. I'm surprised that Pavel Kralovec has let him get away with

that. It should have been a red card. If his face would have been

there, he could have lost teeth. It is. He is lucky that he didn't go

in, he probably seen it coming. He could have gone with his head as

well. That is a red. I have to say we get the chance to look at it

again, the elbow is disgusting. He's caught him on the cheek. Terrible,

that is. Both red cards for me. Albania can count themselves lucky

to be 11 men, now 1-0 up. There is another game taking place in Group

A. It involves the hosts France, they are playing Switzerland.

Ireland. What a night. It is one I will never forget. To share it with

my brother was something special. Couldn't speak. He was in tears. I

was sort of saying, you can't cry now, we have just beat Ukraine. You

would like to think we have done enough already. We know how things

change in football. Hopefully, we will get another point and secure

getting through to the next stage. What a great achievement. We are

against the World Champions. We will stick to the game plan, like we are

doing. You seen the other night against Ukraine, how much it meant

to the fans. We scored the first goal and they didn't shut up from

then. If we could do that in Paris and keep them bouncing, it would be

great. Armstrong! The proudest moment in Irish football. They have

won the group. We had a wee moment. This is what you say to the players,

give them something to remember. I know I was when we beat Ukraine. I

know where I was when we beat Germany. It will be a tough game.

They will be physically and mentally very strong. It will be really

difficult. I'm sure they won't be used to that type of match.

It was a fabulous game against Ukraine for Northern Ireland. They

have now got the small feat of trying to beat the World Champions,

Germany. They go there in great heart. They do. That's what they are

all about. That is what Michael O'Neill is all about, his huge

heart. That is some header. I'm glad he watched the DVD that I sent

him(!) That is hard. That is taking responsibility. Creating chances -

look at this. On his toes, they have got in a position they wouldn't

expect to be in. They will be playing against Germany, but they

have a great chance. A good bit of wing wizardry there. Not putting a

hopeful ball in, he picked out the pass. Great play. The wingers'

union? I have to support the wingers. They have some key players

- Evans, Davis. We saw something from Michael O'Neill, five changes.

Real bravery that? It is those, but it is belief in his squad, belief in

his players, belief in the quality that he has on the bench, or in the

squad of 23. It is good enough to chop and change. Managers on the

training ground, they know best. They know if he is tired, sit him

down. I don't need him this week. You do a job for me. Big word in

football - possibly the biggest word in football - trust. He trusts his

players to do a job. Can they go into a game against a team like

Germany in the mindset that we can draw this, or we can get a win?

Absolutely. You heard the player there said, we stick to the game

plan nine times out of ten. They need a bit of luck. If they do that,

they have a chance. Considering what happened against Ukraine, it is a

as well. We know that was offside, but, I think he will be delighted

that is offside, because... He didn't know at the time. Incredibly

you see that in other games, Trevor and it puts them off their stride,

but Albania got stronger afterwards. The belief... I looked at that

chance, I thought, he's brought his head up, but he kept his eye on the

ball. It is the execution, leaning back a bit too much. They started to

create chances. Think I they will go into the second half similar to the

first, where they will sit back and they will suck on Romania and go

again. The players are back out on the pitch. Let's rejoin Mark and

Simon. THE COMMENTATOR: Thank you. We are

almost ready to go.al bane that will get the second half under way and

involving other people there's more chance of it going wrong.

Haven't seen much of Stanccu, number 19 for Romania. Like all their

players, Stanciu, Stancu. Popa started brightly and has gone

quiet. In the air by Matel...

Hysaj will take the throw in. He's been with Italy since he was 14

years of age. Up to Sadiku. Closed down by. Abrashi. They were

like this on Wednesday against France. They ran out of gas in the

final few minutes. A stupid foul by Matel.

Of all of the games he's had... And Albania with the free kick here,

which Memushaj will take. And a chance to put Romania back

against the ropes here. No doubt about the free kick, as you can see.

Are you sure? Not the most subtle of challenges.

Ajeti and Mavraj as well. The referee with plenty to keep an eye

on. Mavraj is getting a little

over-enthusiastic. We have this and the free kick comes in and we have

the same thing, don't we? Two players have been spoken to

there by the referee. Memushaj's delivery.

And it was much a do about nothing. That's a poor corner.

Basha and Alibec colliding there. Basha playing it down... He

alreadied a his name taken down. I don't think he's done anything bad

there. Alibec may have fallen badly there - that left knee.

You can see why he's in pain, but no blame will be attached there. There

you are, Grigore is chanting over to the bench.

It doesn't look great at the moment for Denis Alibec. There may have to

be another chance. It looks like the manager is preparing to do so,

anyway. Here it is once more.

You can see what the likely problem is there - that left knee.

Torje looks like he's the player about to come on. He looks in real

pain, doesn't he? As you say something those ones create the

serious problems. Always seriously the worse.

So Torje will come on. The sad sight of a player being stretchered off.

Unfortunately for him. Alibec is unable to leave the field

under his own steam there. Let's hope that's not as bad as it

looks. Hopefully it isn't. Torje is on to replace him. He came

off the ben nch the first game against France. Started the last one

against Switzerland. He made his international debut

against Albania in a qualifier in 2012.

Alibec looked like he was screaming in agony before. He looks like he's

sat up, which is a better sign. The match resumes and the flag up

straight away. It was Memushaj over on the far

side. A reminder, of course, the host

France playing against Switzerland in this group. They have played 58

minutes in that one as well. It remains goalless. France will top

the group. They have already qualified, of course. They would be

on seven. Switzerland second on five. Albania, third on three.

Albania bringing up the rear on one. We are about to see a change for

Albania now. Armando Sadiku will get a standing ovation.

He's the man who scored the goal that separates the two sides. And

Bekim Balaj is on to replace him. Balaj is a powerful centre forward.

He scored the goal that beat Portugal away two years ago. Up to

now, it remains his only international goal.

What's happened there? Another stoppage in play. Andi Lila the

player down this time. 1-0 Albania. Romania not threatening

for some considerable time in this match.

He is progressive, isn't he? You can see, head up, trying to pass it and

make them hurry a little bit, zip passes into players.

Albania are a hard-working unit. They are really great, the way they

have stuck at it. Half an hour to go. One goal in the

game. Romania have work to do here. A

touch from Stancu. Torje. Blocked... Great block, really solid. Didn't

move an inch and took it like a man. May need to do so again here. They

have a corner. Albania have been forced back now. I hope they don't

sit deep and try the next 30-plus minutes to ride this out.

Everybody is back in and around the penalty area for Albania. All 11

players inside their own penalty area.

We are about to have two balls on the field.

A bit of space here, a chance for a delivery. The ball whipped in.

Almost met by the head of Stancu. Yeah, great ball in. A little bit of

pressure from the defender, but much better from Romania. The last few

minutes, with the two substitutions, they have started to look a bit more

like a team. Albania's record against Romania is

not a very good one at all. Two wins, four draws and ten defeats

over the years. We are not surprised by that. They are a slowly

developing nation. 1938 their last win over Romania.

A shot from Memushaj and Tatarusanu was less than convincing. A less

than convincing evening. It is as though he wasn't expecting it. Dear

oh dear. Have Romania got the craft and the

guile to prise open this Albanian defence?

You are right, ref, he is lucky. He might get a yellow here. It was a

poor tackle. That's not it. He's got chocolate

fingers, him. Balaj is able to bring it under

control, but quickly snuffed out by the Romanian defence. It was Vlad

Chiriches... Foul. Stupid foul yet again.

Here it is once more. Just a bit unlucky here. It is not a bad first

touch. That was the problem, he couldn't basically engineer it to

his feet. Difficult coming over your shoulder

like that. Ledian Memushaj with this free kick for Albania. We are almost

20 minutes into the second half here and they are leading 1-0.

Romania will have a free kick. Well, they won't show the pushing and the

shoving, but it is so blatant. Romania are going to make another

change here, their third and final change, Florin Andone coming on. He

started against the French, I think. Yes, he came off the bench for the

last six minutes against Switzerland, the last time out. He

will get a bit longer this time. Stancu... Andone waits to come on.

Sanmartean doing well, the substitute. Almost created a

shooting chance. He will get a free kick. Migjen Basha needs to be

careful, having had that early yellow card. He played for it and

won it, Lucian Sanmartean. He's caught him.

A rare opportunity for Romania to test Etrit Berisha.

It will be right-footed. Where is he going to stand, the goalkeeper? It

always amazes me, this. It looks like he is trying to whip it around

the end of the wall. Sanmartean strikes it and the

well-populated wall does its job. The Romanian on the end of the wall

was the one who had to try and take one of the Albanian defenders away

for that to work. Balaj is prepared to run as hard as Sadiku did.

They are playing with a bit of zip, aren't they, Romania? Why didn't

they start like this? Sanmartean and Torje have added a bit... Why didn't

they start like this? It always makes me laugh. Midway through the

second half. We are still waiting for that change, which is just being

made now. Florin Andone is coming on. And Adrian Popa is the player

going off. All three changes made by Anghel Iordanescu now. Andone plays

in Spain, scored 21 goals. 12 players were on for a minute there!

To add insult to injury, the player going off has to walk all the way

around the pitch. What on earth! We can see him on the far side in a

moment. The camera didn't go that far. It will be a while before he

gets back to the bench. It is almost like a Walk of Shame.

The sub went to control the ball behind the goal.

Just watch the substitute. We want to see it. It wasn't his best touch,

the sub, either. You are right, he was rubbish!

Just wonder if they think they have weathered the storm so far. What are

we, just over 20 minutes to go? Berisha hasn't been busy in this

second half. Probably just as well, the couple of times we have seen

him. The shot blasted wide. The throw-in to the striker who chests

it down to the man and he hits the shot. Nothing wrong with it. The

last 20 minutes of the match. Still just that one goal, the Sadiku

header, separating the two teams. No goals in Lille between Switzerland

and France. Sanmartean has made a very positive

impact. He has, indeed. He got that one wrong, but he started to make

them play. He has given the ball to players quickly, as though to say,

Romania are knocking on the door a little. They are starting to ask a

few more questions of the Albanian defence, who are nearly finding a

way through, a moment or two ago. All the play is Romania's at the

moment now. They are picking up all the lose pieces.

goalkeeper. So many bodies are in the way.

That's the thing, isn't it, with a side like Albania? They must be a

very difficult team to play against. Yes, because they are, isn't it?

tournament, or would that be a hungry win? It is hard to say, but

Albania would become, I think, the third first-timers at the Euros to

win if they win tonight. Romania look as though they will carve out a

It would be their first goal from open play in the Euros for a long,

any of the games I have been to. They sound as if they are going to

more seconds. It is hard to tell with all the whistling and screaming

at the moment would appear to be preparing to leave France with one

in a position that they are waiting for something. They could have been

out, but the way they went about their business, the way the manager

set them out, we have to mention certain players and we might as well

do it now. The two centre-halves were superb. Memushaj was superb. We

shouldn't be surprised by the organisation shown by Albania by the

way they frustrated France? Absolutely. Nearly got to the
