Under 20s World Cup Final - Venezuela v England Match of the Day Live

Good morning. We have an England men's football team in a World Cup

final and we have not had a chance to say that too often over the

years. At under 20 level this morning they are taking on

Venezuela. England got to the final in some style.

Brilliant ball! England are level. The back post. A big chance. Can he

score? Here we go! Amazing. Surely now?

Not long until kick-off. We will be in South Korea shortly for the

national anthems. Two former England international Sue also represented

the country at U21 level and are not on holiday! England got there in

style, but impressively, beating Argentina in the first group game.

Yes, and I think it is really important that players of this age

get tournament experience. We have talked about it for a long time. You

cannot underestimate how valuable it is to learn how to play in

tournaments and be away from home for long periods of time. A lot of

these players are not getting too much club football and it is vital.

Fair play. They have played well, they have scored goals and they have

looked solid and they deserve to be where they are. Goal-scorers get all

the attention, as you and I know. We will ignore that! Solanke has got

four in this tournament and on Chelsea's books and looking to go to

Liverpool. And the Everton player has got three. It is good for

Solanke, evidently. Yes, good for his confidence. He didn't play last

season. On the fringes at Chelsea. Got the move to Liverpool, from the

1st of July. Four goals in the tournament and looking really

confident. It looked like he has really got the zest for the game. At

such a young age it seems bizarre saying that. He has had a decent

experience a couple of years ago, scoring seven

goals in 21 games, and then didn't get a look in with Chelsea but he

has come back and he looks to be on fire and I am excited for his

Liverpool future. He made his debut in 2014, Solanke, one month after

turning 17. He has had more opportunities, the Everton player.

Is that because he has cost more money? Possibly. But it is the huge

problem we have between the age of 18 and 19 and 22 and 23.

Opportunities at top clubs are very limited. These are technical players

that have the ability to play in the Premier League. They are probably a

bit too good for League One, which is a problem. Managers don't quite

fancy them with the physicality of those leagues. If they are not

careful, they end up in no man's land. With Solanke going to

Liverpool, he needs to play, he needs to play football at this age.

They need the experience, playing football. If they are not playing

football at a giant club like Manchester City or Liverpool, they

need to go lower down, simple as that. Lewis Cook is the England

to your Sunday morning bonus of watching an England football team in

a World Cup final. Any experience of an England team makes me hesitant to

say it, but they are favourites to win against a Venezuela side which

has gone much I above expectations to get to such a prestigious event.

On the world scene, theirs is a much bigger story than England's. Let's

take a look at the Venezuela side which has stayed pretty consistent

throughout the competition with eight of the starters having kicked

off every game. Two changes compared to the semifinal line-up. I and

left-back Jose Hernandez return from suspension. -- Williams Velasquez

and Jose Hernandez. Penaranda is a Watford player. Adding to the

collection of finals. Assisting the referees on the big screens:

The video assistant referee Assistant is by and large considered

to be a success at the competition so far.

Lewis Cook of Bournemouth is the man with the armband for England and he

has been impressive throughout the tournament. Everton have four

players starting today. Jonjoe Kenny, Kieran Dowell, Calvert-Lewin

and Lookman. The one change to semifinal success against Italy is

Onomah back from his ban, replacing an Arsenal player. Rafael Dudamel

coaches the senior and under 20 side. All things are never did play

for the senior side but he did play for the U21s. -- Paul Simpson never

did play. Specialist coach as recently as October this year. And

can Solanke and the Cottage and as top scorer? Four goals so far for

the soon Liverpool striker. -- can Solanke and the competition as top

scorer? Italy and Uruguay fought out a 0-0

draw in the play-off game for third, with Italy winning on penalties.

Venezuela in their burgundy strip and England in all white. Danny

Mills is joining me for commentary. In my time machine! I bet you wish

you could go back in time to your U21 days to have the chance to play

in a game as fastidious as this. A fantastic achievement from Paul

Simpson and we should give credit to the FA as well for the extra

importance they are placing on the youth tournaments these days. The

experience that these young players pick up in these tournaments is

absolutely vital. Back when I was playing with the U21s, it really was

just a process with a tournament every now and then. You didn't get

big tournament atmospheres and you didn't get used to being away from

home for long periods. Now there is the U21s tournament. You used to

play in the U21s, then the under 23 and then into the senior side. And

we have seen it with the Spanish and German and Italian players, the

experience you get at this level, playing tournament football,

surviving away from home for long periods, it is vital. This team has

been together some time. The ball has been bounced out of play for a

Venezuela goalkick off Calvert-Lewin. If you in the side

got pretty regular game time in the Premier League towards the end of

last season. -- some of the players in the side. 11 appearances for

Everton all told, and five as a starter. Farinez is the Venezuela

goalkeeper. Only 5'9" but one of the most athletic. He has achieved the

distinction of scoring in this tournament from the penalty spot in

their 7-0 group win. Playing in the footsteps of his coach who was a

goalkeeper who netted against Argentina. Goal-scoring goalkeepers

are more in vogue in South America compared to Europe.

Walker-Peters crowded out. The Spurs full-back with a curious link to

Kyle Walker. He might be succeeded by Kyle Walker Peters one day, no

relation. Hernandez tried to play it straight

through Lookman, who did well. Freddie Woodman, the Newcastle

United goalkeeper, who played the last part of the season, ending with

Kilmarnock in Scotland. A lot of traffic to get through in terms of

goalkeepers at senior level, but once he make the breakthrough for a

good club, he is in a good position, being the godson of the current

England manager. His dad was a half decent keeper as well. Probably a

better character than he was goalkeeper. His dad was Andy

Woodman, from Crystal Palace and a long time at Northampton Town. Now

goalkeeping coach. Long-term friend and team-mate of Gareth Southgate.

I think what is important for those watching who are not too familiar

with South American football, especially Venezuela, this is

vitally important to these young players. Playing for your national

side for the likes of Venezuela, this is how you are going to move to

a bigger club. It is not about club football. This is where it is at for

them. It is vitally important that they play well and put in good

performances. Solanke has a run at Ferraresi and

gets passed on. Brought to an end by Ronald Hernandez and the referee

didn't see anything wrong with that challenge. He was looking for the

foul more than anything and expecting contact but it didn't

quite happen. That is good, positive. He has got the ball in the

final third of the pitch and he is running at people, trying to make

things happen. That is what this England team have done from day one

of the tournament. Perhaps a little bit of expression of the man in

charge, Paul Simpson, we can all remember him charging up and down

for Manchester City and Derby of good few years ago. Because of their

age, this site will make mistakes and sometimes the quality will not

be exactly where it needs to be. But what you want to see if progression,

seeing the players trying to play in the right way, trying to do the

right things. If there is a one-on-one situation, have a go at

your man. Don't pass it for passing's sick positive football.

Don't pass it around the back needlessly. This time it comes off

and next time it might not but these are the things you need to look for.

Lookman has been bright as a button in the opening six minutes. Bringing

Walker-Peters in again. Shoved off the ball but England have it back

with Lewis Cook. Jonjoe Kenny has overcooked that cross. Perfect

example of what I'm talking about. Good play. The ideas are right.

Lewis Cook gets the ball, plays it wide, looks for the cross to be

whipped in. OK, the quality is not quite there and he accept it and

that will come with experience and overtime. Jonjoe Kenny has oozed

quality throughout the tournament so far. He has played every minute for

England. Another player with that distinction is the centre-back,

Tomori of Chelsea. Williams Velasquez is that the heart

of the Venezuelan defence. He might be a Watford player one day. Playing

on loan for another of the Potso owned teams, with Udinese in Italy.

The man with a bleach blonde hair, Penaranda, another player who can

challenge but can frustrate as well. Herrera had to be patient. Jose

Hernandez almost onto it began, thwarted by Kieran Dowell.

Penaranda. You get the gist of what I mean by

individualistic. A good Venezuela move if Hernandez can get to it. He

couldn't quite. You can hear by the buzz of the crowd who the neutrals

are getting behind. A positive start by both sides. Those looking to get

forward and create opportunities and use the ball well in different

situations. Both of them clearly want to go out and attack and

showcase their skills. That is really important.

Clarke-Salter has been at Chelsea since he was nine and he has been on

loan to Bristol Rovers last season, a season interrupted by a broken

elbow. Lookman gives the ball away in

trying to find Onomah. They have spotted an infringement. Explaining

the nature of it to Herrera. I think Lookman was fortunate in that

situation. I think he was expecting to get the free kick. They did him a

bit of a favour. Calvert-Lewin manages to break it

into Solanke. Arenas Ingold got in the way of the shot. -- Farinez

Ingold. Really good move but the finish wasn't quite there. He ends

up scuffing it and catches the top of the ball and doesn't get a clean

connection and it is a comfortable save that pretty much it is the

goalkeeper in the end. A really good move from England. Kieran Dowell

with the England corner. Solanke on the move but it is over him.

Calvert-Lewin could not do much with it either. The Venezuela goalkick

however. Farinez is 19 years of age and

already three times capped by the Venezuelan senior national side. The

distinction of saving a penalty by Alexis Sanchez at the end of March

in a World Cup qualifier game against Chile. Venezuela on the

wrong end of a defeat, 3-1, and they are out of contention in the World

Cup qualifying group. They will not be in Russia next year. That is why

extra importance has been placed on this age group, the next generation,

for a country that does not have much footballing pedigree. Baseball

has been the main sport over the years. They are almost the exception

in South America for that. If they are not already, the majority of

these players will not be playing in Venezuela. They will be playing in

all four corners of the globe. They are all of decent standard. Not

really at the pinnacle of anyone's career so they will be looking to

move abroad as soon as possible. Ronaldo Chacon is doing much of the

running around for Venezuela. Onomah, that was smart.

Just a little pull back on the shoulder of Clarke-Salter, giving

England a free kick. The Venezuela number nine, Ronaldo Pena, scored in

their opening win against Germany. Three players in their team and five

at competition overwrote. They were all born in 97, so it makes sense,

and all named after Ronaldo of Brazil.

Walker-Peters. Solanke. Lookman trying to play it through the legs

of the right back, Hernandez. He will undoubtedly be on his way from

his home country sometimes in. Arguably the best full-back at the

South American youth championships earlier this year.

Clarke-Salter's throw. England settling well, playing with

confidence, and Venezuela playing as they have done all tournament. They

are lively. And in some ways pretty unpredictable. And as other teams

have found out, they can hurt you. One factor will be if this goes the

distance. Venezuela have gone to extra time in all three of their

neck out times -- knockout games so far. Solanke! The hit that clearly

towards goal but not cleanly enough. No, but England are playing in the

right way. I have been quite impressed so far. They are looking

to get the ball forward when they can and create opportunities. They

haven't really tested the goalkeeper as yet. That scuffed shot earlier on

from Solanke when he just missed it, going well wide. They are playing in

the right manner, trying to do the right things, and that is really

important at this age. They are showing a lot of confidence. This is

still a World Cup final for them and they are not showing any nerves at

present. Freddie Woodman comes to catch and

very cleanly taken. One of the few who have made the journey up from

being part of the team that won the under 17 European Championships

three years ago. This is a group that has stuck together, by and

large, with a few dips in and out. Continuity being seen as a crucial

part of their development. But the biggest part, the next stage of

their development, is playing senior football that matters. Forget about

playing U21s, and 23s for your club. These players need to start playing

first team football. Saturday afternoon, whatever it may be, but

they need to play for three points competitively and learned that side

of the game. We were discussing that pre-kick-off and working out how

many of these England players will get regular game time next season. A

bit of a struggle. Lewis Cook at Bournemouth could be well placed and

a couple of the Everton boys, but otherwise you could expect these

players on loan at a championship ground near you next season. And it

is absolutely vital. This age group of 19 to 23, we know there is a huge

blockage in that pathway. When you look at the likes of players at

Ajax, the amount of games those young players of this sort of age

have played is exceptional. Calvert-Lewin, trying to put it

across towards Kieran Dowell, but relatively comfortable for Farinez

to put out. Good strength displayed by Sergio

Cordova. Away by to that not cleanly. -- away

by to Tomori but not cleanly. And then did well to get plenty of power

in that short backlift. He had to lean back slightly. Freddie Woodman

watched it fly over the bar quite comfortably. A healthy contingent of

England supporters here, as there always is whenever England place

anywhere in the globe. In Suwon this evening. A few jetted out when

England got this far. Without a doubt. I am sure most of these

people will have family and friends out there. It is a World Cup final.

It is not very often England, if ever, make it to a World Cup final!

This is hugely important for us so far. Just to make that point, not in

any Fifa organise World Cup finals and is a big one of 1966. It is

hugely important and a proud moment for these young players.

Not on the Fifa scale but, Danny, I was going to ask why you have not

been in Thailand? It might have missed your attention but an England

senior side won the seniors cup, they beat Iran in the final. I

thought she would have been playing in that. Not old enough. Yes you

are! Not good enough, maybe that is what it is. The other U20 side won

the two lob tournament in the south of France yesterday, England's women

won their friendly in Switzerland, just the senior side not beating

Scotland, the only ones not successful this weekend so far. They

did not get beat. The character they showed, it could have collapsed. It

would have been easy just to accept defeat but they didn't. They showed

a lot of character to keep going. Harry Kane, one chance, a great

finish. Sometimes you can't win every single game but it is vitally

important not to lose. Something that supporters sometimes do not

understand. England have been average for some time. You listen to

lots of people talking about it and reporting and they say, it is

typical England. If it is typical, why are we surprised?

Lookman got his shot away. Well saved by Farinez. Lookman was under

pressure from Yangel Herrera, did well to hit it as well as he did.

Showed really good strength, held off the first challenge. I thought

he might be tempted to go down. Caught it really sweetly, just a

little bit too close to the goalkeeper but good strength, pace

and power. A chance, it was not taken by

Calvert-Lewin. Seem to snatch at it, it was a little bit worried. His

eyes lit up. Lookman, a really sweet straight, it just bounced up nicely

for him. Calvert-Lewin, I think he saw the headlines, goal in a World

Cup final. Just snatched from him. Kabasele grew up on the same

Sheffield estate is Jamie Vardy. -- he grew up on the same Sheffield

estate is Jamie Vardy. The referee seems in quite

authoritative moods today. One of the more experienced officials on

the world stage. That fact about him, he co-owns a supermarket and

hair salon! And effort on goal, it beat Woodman. What a strike that

was, it caught everybody out. At first glance, I think Freddie

Woodman might have got his fingertips to that. It was an

awfully long way out, caught everybody by surprise. England very,

very fortunate to get away with that. What a connection from Ronaldo

Lucena. Maybe not quite. He was beaten. I

think he will argue he had it covered, as goalkeepers do, but what

a strike. 40 yards out, absolutely brilliant strike bending both ways.

It is one of those you hardly bothered to get a wall organised

for. I don't think you do, at that

distance. Goalkeepers and walls and free kicks. A huge amount of talk

after last night. But I don't think anybody expected him to shoot.

Venezuela have found some confidence. I like the way they go

about things, a freedom about their play. For both teams, it is sharp

and crisp. Nobody is dwelling on the ball. People are looking for

opportunities. An important five minutes now for England to settle

down after that shot hit the post, they looks panicky for a couple of

minutes after that. A shoot on sight policy! Chacon went

to the goal. This is the free kick again. / incredibly well. A short

follow-through, gets that movement and the dip. -- it was/ incredibly

well. Freddie Woodman will be incredibly delighted when he heard

that hit the post. We have seen the exciting aspect of

Venezuela's attacking play. They have yet to concede from open play

in 90 minutes of games that this tournament. It is already

established that they have an athletic goalkeeper and a solid back

four. They are carrying the hopes of a

country wracked by conflict at the moment. Horrible problems in

Venezuela over the last two months. It has affected those players here

and the coach, Rafael Dudamel. He could not hold back the tears, never

mind after, during the penalty shoot out in the semifinal.

Walker-Peters and Ronald Hernandez, Hernandez came off hurting more.

Completely accidental, just a clash of heads. Both players going for the

ball. Hernandez got there just a fraction early. I think is

Venezuelan team are quite tough. They don't mind scrapping it out.

Talking of conflict, police were called to their hotel last night,

the afternoon in UK time, there was a row between Uruguay's players and

Venezuela's following the stormy semifinal. It broke into an all-out

fight. Fifa have confirmed it is an altercation. Not too many bearing

scores this morning. William Velazquez was a little bit

uncertain. It will be an England throw, credit Jonjoe Kenny for

making up the ground. Lookman felt he was impeded by

Hernandez, the referee thought differently.

The free kick has gone England's way, much to the astonishment of

Velazquez. Dell gets the free kick. -- Kieran Dowell gets the free kick.

I was surprised about, I thought he had arrived later than Velazquez. I

expected the free kick to go the other way.

Then as well are trying to get Pena to use his power, he is doing about

-- Venezuela are trying to get Pena to use his power.

I just wonder if Solanke had been more positive and braver going to

challenge the goalkeeper, he might have been able to nip the ball in

front of him. Just over 31 minutes gone. England

have a corner. Just long downfield. Do you see, it

is almost like he saw the goalkeeper coming and just pulled out a little

bit. Sometimes you want your centre forward to challenge the goalkeeper.

Header on goal, without sufficient power, from Calvert-Lewin. Back to

the earlier one, it is a situation we do not see often, the striker had

the height advantage on the goalkeeper. Farinez is only five

foot nine. He has his hands, of course!

In my experience of watching England, Farinez will have an

absolutely world beating day in goal today.

Real Madrid had had interest in him is a very young teenager, they will

still be monitoring them. -- they will still be monitoring him.

Another one goes to England, Kieran Dowell involved again. Again, I

might have thought that would have possibly gone the other way. I

suppose it is 50/ 50. England have the benefit of the doubt on a couple

of occasions. The chump with Finney raised caught the referee's

attention. -- the jump with the knee race. Calvert-Lewin is took a second

chance, England have taken the lead! Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin with

a goal that maybe just puts England on the way to becoming world

champions at this level. Great persistence from Calvert-Lewin

in the end. First chance, a really good save from the goalkeeper. The

goalkeeper was a little bit unfortunate that it rebounded

straight back to the centre forward, who got a second bite at the cherry.

Clearly onside. That is a really good save. Unfortunately for the

goalkeeper, he can't quite make the rebound. Great persistence. He does

not show disappointment, he goes after his own rebound and slots it

in the bottom corner. Whatever age group, that is a goal in a World Cup

final. Right foot, left foot, finished. Venezuelan Mill, England

one. -- Venezuela nil. Calvert-Lewin 's has his second goal in the

competition. He is only the third ever English player to score a goal

in a World Cup final! Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the same breath as

Sir Geoff Hurst. Solanke, turned away by Hernandez.

England are pushing now. When Venezuela hits the post from that

outrageous great free kick, I think England have dominated since that,

especially possession, up until now. I think they have controlled the

majority of the game and created better chances. They thoroughly

deserved the lead. Walker-Peters was trying to bustle through.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was checking whether he would be on site or not.

-- onside. Is simple free kick picked up, great persistence by

Calvert-Lewin. Challenges the first header, goes after the knock-down,

does not get disappointed when the goalkeeper saves the first, he is

bright and sharp enough to go after his own rebound and slotted in the

bottom corner. Should the centre-back have done better against

that first ball? Yes, if you cannot win because of a height disadvantage

you have to block him, be strong, get your arms out. You are not even

allowed to run into the penalty area. But you have to give the

Englishman a lot of credit for that persistence. Before that goal he

scored against Argentina in the group stage, the opening game. The

goal that had been watched by more people would have been the one in

the Premier League against Hull City in March. This one with the Three

Lions on his shirt. I hope England now just continue to

play in the same way they have done until now. They have been very, very

positive, they have looked to get the ball forward with quality and

get it forward early. I don't want them to sit back and just think

let's protect this lead. Carry on doing what has been successful up

until now. Whenever Lookman gets the ball at

his feet, he runs with it. He has abundance of pace and power and also

was probably the most experienced player in this side. He has played

in the Championship, in the Premier League, against ferocious opponents

for a player of his age. He played close to 50 games for Charlton

before moving to Everton. Going for gold from distance seems

to be a Venezuelan trade, something that he likes to do. It seems like

they will go with if we have enough shots from distance, one will fly

in. They were very unlucky with the free kick earlier. It is speculative

from that sort of range. It is to be an absolute worldie. Watford fans

have been watching with interest, he has not played for Watford yet, he

has been on loan to Granada the seasons before last and at Udinese

and Malaga this season and barely had any game time with them.

Lookman pokes fun through to Calvert-Lewin. Good goalkeeping from

Farinez. Excellent goalkeeping, really sharp, click off his line but

another really good move from England. Slick, one, two touch

passing, looking to play the ball forward at every opportunity. Very

unlucky to create another goal-scoring chance.

There is a vacancy at left footed centre-back on Chelsea's books now!

But this season might be one too soon for Clarke-Salter.

Venezuela get the decision this time, and in a very useful position.

England defending free kicks from this range, we have heard that this

weekend and Cena twice. -- seen it twice. This is a lot closer, well

within shooting distance. It becomes very clear, you will wait for my

whistle. Joe Hart could barely see past the

wall yesterday, Freddie Woodman should get a good view today. Lucena

will leave the shots De Pena Rand air. -- the to Adalberto Penaranda.

Woodman must have had his bearing spot-on, my heart was in my mouth.

I think he certainly would have had a sharp intake of breath. Inches

wide, really good quality. This is the chance to Calvert-Lewin, really

good goalkeeping denied England. Just two and a half minutes plus

whatever is added on until half-time. Venezuela have been

buoyed by their free kick effort. Ferraresi got across that one well.

Handball appeals from Paul Simpson. His appeal is upheld, England free

kick. Walker-Peters gets everything on his

right foot, he is more of a right back than a left-back everyday use.

-- in everyday use. This will be the first time the

tournament, unless they can do something in the next minute and a

bit, that Venezuela have gone in at half-time as the team behind.

England were very strong in the second half of their semifinal

against Italy, they were a goal behind at the break but hit back

with two from Dominic Solanke and one from Ademola Lookman. It was a

terrific second 45 minutes in the semifinal.

England goal kick. Let's look at the Penaranda free

kick, he got too much bend on it. He has scored twice in the tournament,

including against the USA in the quarterfinal win. They needed extra

time for that, they needed penalties in the semifinal against Uruguay.

Velazquez comes up to assist Jose Hernandez. Kenny was not about to

leave him alone. That was the last action of the

first half, a first half that is England's. Venezuela rattled the

post from some range courtesy of Lucena, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin

found a way in at the other end. His second goal of the tournament is the

only goal of the U20 World Cup finals so far. England are halfway

there. At the break and South Korea, it is Venezuela nil, England one.

By the magic of television, Danny Mills is now back in the studio. How

does that work?! Away from the commentary box and back in the

studio alongside Trevor Sinclair. We will let Danny get his breath back,

he is not as fit as he was! That was very enjoyable, not bucketloads of

chances but very enjoyable. Great watch, some technical players giving

it all, as you would expect in a cup final. I have been really impressed.

Spatial awareness is good, great confidence, no fear. We were talking

of air, a couple of years down the line they might get fear, but if you

could keep this and bottle it hit is priceless. There has been a freedom,

I suppose, both teams, but from an England perspective, they have both

gone for it. That is not often the case in cup finals. There was a lot

of confidence. Lots of these players are big characters that their clubs,

they have a lot of confidence, they are playing the right way. They will

make mistakes because they are young, it is what happens with young

players, but they are trying to do the right things, trying to play in

the right way. I use the example of Ajax several times, they are very,

very similar. As long as they do that, show progression and try to do

the right thing, you will accept mistakes. They look like they are

enjoying it, they have smiles on their faces, that is brilliant as a

footballer. We will see the goal in a second, but talking about smiling

and not fearing mistakes, is it easier to have that mentality when

you are your peers rather than, say, going into a first-team amongst

experienced players? I think I said in commentary, the next level for

these players is to step into senior football on a regular basis when it

matters for three points, four people's livelihoods, not just

players but people behind-the-scenes, ground staff...

The crowd. That is the next level. They have ability and confidence but

now they have to find a club where they can play regularly for what it

matters. That is what it is about, experiences and being comfortably

uncomfortable. These lads are playing, lots of them, they have

played Championship and Premier League football, this is a walk in

the park, they do not feel nervous energy, they are going out and

expressing themselves because they feel comfortable. As soon as they

get in the Premier League or playing against men who supersede them in

experience and possibly pace and strength, can you make that step up

and feel comfortable? You often talk about the perfect hat-trick, a girl

with your right foot, left foot and your head, Dominic Calvert-Lewin got

all of those in the build-up to this one! Great technique. Lots of

players would slash that over the bar, great composure at the end.

Putting your head in way you could get hurt, no shrinking violet,

showing his experience, can in front of goal, an excellent individual

goal. Danny? He does not put his head down and think, oh, I have

missed. It is a really good save from the goalkeeper, as he follows

this one up, Trevor is right, great calmness under pressure. He just

waits, bides his time and slotted into the corner. The fact he does

not give up, keeps going and is calm under pressure is something we have

not seen from too many English players lately. We hope it does not

go to penalties but the England manager Paul Simpson said they have

practised from the very start. The squad came together ahead of the

tournament. Venezuela have practised free kicks!

Two efforts on goal and disbursement of us all by surprise. Freddie

Woodman in the England goal, brilliant technique. That is a great

shot, on camera and on the pitch! It starts to go to the right and then

it comes back to the left-hand side and it is that technique of not

following all the way through. That little bit of swerve and dip. That

was a foot of the centre circle. That is what you call a World Cup

Willie shot! I don't think Freddie Woodman gets anywhere near this if

it is in the top corner. Half a foot inside and it is in the top corner.

Great technique, up and down, super effort. Now let's look at a couple

of the England players who have impressed. Lipman has pulled the

strings. He has got pace and power and experience. -- Lookman has

pulled the strings. From the very first minute he has tried to make

things happen. He has had the opportunity one-on-one, even two on

one at times, and he has run at people. He takes people on and try

to create chances. Last night during the England game, people were

passing it sideways and playing safe. You want your creative players

to take a risk. I think it is one of them that gets bottoms on seats in

the stands. Players that are prepared to take on the opposition.

Just a little bit overhit there, but his agility, his balance and speed,

he has got the lot. We have seen him score for Everton. We have seen him

with Charlton. He has got a big future. How often do we say that a

big price tag weighs heavily on a player's shoulders? This is the

opposite. He has decided he is a ?10 million player and he is going to go

and shouted. And the man who is in the middle of

midfield for England? He has been a man against boys at times. He is so

strong and physical. His awareness, his passing ability. Sometimes you

talk about uncomfortable situations like that, players panicked. He

doesn't. He holds them off and he knows how strong he is and his end

product has been superb and I am impressed with his performance. A

lot of these players have played together for a long time. Lewis Cook

sitting beside him, very experienced. A lot of Championship

football and Premier League. He is happy to sit there and allow him to

do that. These players are very well blended together as well. 11 of them

played together in the under 19s tournament as well so they have that

history and team spirit and they gelled together which is very

important away from home. In so many senior tournaments, we get three

weeks in, and we talk about them being bored and struggling and being

cooped up. They have been together a long time and they are much younger

so arguably they should be more frustrated. But Paul Simpson says

they have not asked for a night out. They are not old enough! But they

have been happy in the camp they are wrapped and they have had plenty to

use them as well. And this is vital going forward for when they get to

an U21 tournament and hopefully senior tournaments. They have had

this experience. Germany and Spain have done it. All their top players,

their World Cup winners, have played at the under 20 level, and U21, and

done very well in tournaments. Trevor and I have been away for long

periods of time and it does get difficult. South Korea. Credit to

Paul, and not just the coaching staff, the medical team, the

doctors, the chefs, they have got to make the players feel at home and

comfortable and they have obviously got that right. And players on the

fringes, not starting every game, they can be poison in a dressing

room. Paul Simpson is dealing with them, making sure they are part of

it as well. There are governing bodies in any sport. Fans on one

side, seats on the other. But if you expand on that, and England have not

won yet, but it has been successful tournament whether they win or not,

but the FA deserve credit. Not only for the money they have put into

this to allow Paul Simpson to do his work out there, but also the

analytical team back here at St George's Park, providing all the

analysis help that Paul Simpson needs and sending it back to South

Korea. Definitely. This goes back to when Gareth Southgate was put in

charge of elite performance. Five or six years ago. He said actually we

are going to create a pathway for the England team. They are all at St

George's Park. When these guys come here, they are not in the best hotel

at St George's Park. They are lower down the food chain but they are

trained in the right way. They feel part of England and they can see a

pathway of going from the seven teams, the nine teams, 20, 20 ones,

and hopefully into the senior side. And at the moment it looks like it

is working. The proof of the pudding is when it gets to the senior side.

Unfortunately last night was not as good as we hoped. The senior team

drew do- to with Scotland. -- the team drew 2-2. Harry Kane equalised

in injury time. What did not help Scotland's cause was that Slovenia

and Slovakia both won, leaving Scotland with a lot of work to do if

they are going to make the play-offs and qualify for Russia 2018. Let's

get reaction from that game at Hampden Park last night. It is a

huge moment for the team. The questions around this centre on

character, they centre on the ability to withstand events that go

against you. Yes, that is what we have got to show. We have got to be

a team that is never beaten. I have seen Scotland's best ever free kick

and second best ever free kick. And then to have a noise after that, I

have never heard anything like that before. I looked at the players and

I think it is unfair that they have got to keep coming back and taking

knocks like that but they turn up and they do it. You can see his

frustration when Harry Kane equalisers. If you look at Scotland

first of their position in the table, because of what happened with

Slovakia and Slovenia, it will be a real struggle. We needed to win that

game to have any chance of making it to the World Cup and it doesn't look

like it will happen, for me. They can take credit and positives from

that game. Give it a good go. Griffiths had a couple of decent

opportunities and he kept going like good strikers should do. He got his

reward at the end with two superb free kick. There is a lot of talk

about Joe Hart but a very well executed free kick, especially the

second one. The first one, big area to hit and Joe Hart was nowhere near

him. For the blame to be put on Joe Hart, we need to look at why the

fouls were given away in the first place. Whether you think Joe Hart

was to blame or not, it puts Gareth Southgate in a difficult position

ahead of the fans game, the friendly on Tuesday night. You want to look

at other players in a friendly and leaving Joe Hart out and bringing

Jack Butland in, are you dropping Joe Hart? I think the decision was

already made. Joe Hart was never going to play both games. People

have questioned Gareth. Is he sharp enough to make those decisions,

brave enough? He dropped Wayne Rooney instantly when he came into

the job which was a massive decision. He will have already made

his mind up that Jack Butland is going to play, I assume. There is no

need for Joe Hart to play in that game. If Joe Hart had saved those

two free kicks, they would have been world-class saves. Really good free

kicks and they went in. Here and I scored one against Russia. They

would have been world-class saves if he had saved them? I think so. If he

had got across. If you gets a hand to it, it still might go in. They

are not in the top corner but here in the top corner but Keren Dyer

scored against Russia in the Euros and we said it was a brilliant the

corner. Gareth Bale scored a couple and we are lauding them for

brilliant free kick that when one goes against us, we think it is the

keeper's fault. Gareth Bale got a very good one in the Euros. He did,

but we say it is a great strike, great free kick. If Joe Hart saves

both of those, they are world-class saves. Arguably the best result of

the night had got lost in the discussion of England and Scotland.

It is Northern Ireland against Azerbaijan, in sweltering

conditions. Stuart Dallas with the goal in injury time. On Radio 5 Live

they described it as smash and grab that it still got them three points!

They are just behind Germany in that group on goal difference. If they

hold on to second, they are in the play-offs. A massive game against

the Czech Republic. That will be crucial. You don't expect them to be

Germany but you do expect them to beat the other sides. That game

against Czech Republic is massive. O'Neill has done a superb job with

those players. And you can hear the Wales game away to Serbia with

Gareth Bale suspended and out of that game on Sports Extra. Plenty of

Now back to South Korea. The second half is on the way. England are one

goal to the good against Venezuela. Here is Guy Mowbray. Danny is on his

job in the next 45 minutes. England get the second half started. Just

the position they would have wanted to be in. The first England youth

side to call themselves world champions perhaps. It is to be

called The World Series Championships. Nicky Butt, Alan

Thompson, Steve Watson, David Unsworth, they won in the 90s and

also in 1981 in Australia with the likes of Paul Alan, Kingsley, Danny

Wallace. John Cook has been Sunderland's kit man for many years.

The first yellow card of this year's under 20 World Cup final now. And it

is Williams Velasquez for jumping into Calvert-Lewin. The

centre-back's third caution of the competition. He missed the semifinal

through suspension. He knows that is going well wide

from Calvert-Lewin. A player who this time last year was getting

ready for the summer as a young Sheffield United hopeful. A couple

of months after that he was on his way to Everton. 11 Premier League

appearances have followed. Solanke is soon to be on his way to

Liverpool from Chelsea with the hope of getting more game time on

Merseyside. Freddie Woodman, out and out. -- up

and out. Penaranda just clipped. The first

England yellow card is dished out now for Tomori, who has got it. And

this replay shows us why. Danny Mills ankle tapped! Sorry, late to

join you, there was a queue at passport control. Good flight?

Perfect. Collected by Solanke. This is

Calvert-Lewin. Ferraresi is all over him. He wanted the free kick. Ball

in instead and Dowell couldn't go for it and just too high for so

lanky. England have started the second half in the same vein. --

just too high for Solanke. It is really important to come out and

play in the same style. Not to sit back and decide to just protect the

lead. If we get a clean sheet, we win the World Cup. Ultimately you

want them to play with the same verve as the first half. Be

positive, on the front foot, making the most of every opportunity that

they have. The Venezuela free kick will have to move a couple of yards.

They can't shoot from here. Even him. I say that! On the edge of the

centre circle in the first half. The delivery again. It caused a problem.

It resulted in an effort on target that was saved by Freddie Woodman.

Really good delivery, pace and power. Always difficult to score

from beyond 13 yards with a header. Quite comfortable for Freddie

Woodman, just dropping into his hands. Herrera's header, the

Manchester City man. He has played five times for New York City in the

MLS, having joined Manchester at the end of January. He scored against

Crewe at the end of April. Very nicely done up to a point by Tomori.

Penaranda, then Lewis Cook got back on board. Brilliant tackle.

Brilliant tackle from Lewis Cook. Great work from the industrious

Pena. That is a fierce shot but it will never trouble Freddie Woodman.

We are seeing U20s football. And again it is brilliant to see players

with confidence, playing with no fear, trying to take a chance. There

have been far too many long shots. They need to get a bit closer to

goal to really trouble the goalkeeper. Ronaldo Chacon's long

shot is the last of the game for him. And this is a really

interesting player, Yeferson Soteldo. He has a knee injury, which

is why he didn't start. Only five tall but considered to be the most

all-round talented player in the Venezuela squad. He has already got

himself a nickname, Manzanita, the little apple.

Onomah dispossessed, he never really had it. And Soteldo has its first

involvement. Great from Freddie Woodman. He is at the feet of

Cordova. Excellent play from both sets of players. The substitute that

has just come on was just magnificent. Bright, sharp,

excellent through ball. Freddie Woodman was equal to that and he

came out and blocked the shot. Really good goalkeeping. And right

on cue, Yeferson Soteldo shows us his talents. He may be diminutive in

stature, but the way he got on the ball, the sharpness, the brightness,

the speed of ten, the speed of thought, and the most perfectly

weighted ball through. Absolutely exceptional. We always make that

excuse for senior players who have just come on, that they need time to

get into the game. He was in June from the first second. -- in tune

from the first second. Penaranda loses out to Onomah.

Really second half. -- really lively second half.

Look and took a post but not enough to constitute a foul. Penaranda, on

the move. It looks as though the threat level to invent's backline

has increased. Definitely with Soteldo coming on. He might be very

small but he is bright and sharp. On the ball again. Just behind Cordova.

Over the top by Lewis Cook. Just calling for the rest of his

team-mates to up their game is a little bit. That is an outstanding

pass through to his colleague. His touch may just let him down. That

hesitating moment allows Freddie Woodman to come out and block the

shot with his legs. Soteldo has only been on the pitch for three minutes.

Outstanding. Venezuela corner. Lucena takes it. Herrera is free!

Freddie Woodman saves again. England's lead at the moment looks

very slim. Fortunate for Freddie Woodman that this is not right in

the corner. Again it is a header from 12 yards out. Difficult to get

enough power from that sort of range to really trouble the goalkeeper.

Another yard to his right hand side and you might have seen the

goalkeeper struggling. The game is going to open up. We are just

approaching 55 minutes. Venezuela are starting to push for the

equaliser. Hopefully that might create a couple more opportunities

for England. Onomah wins the ball for England and set himself up to

shoot. A brilliant effort! Farinez absolutely standard. GDS? Or not? I

don't think we have it, do we? Very close. Absolutely brilliant strike.

Right on the line. I don't know if they can use a video assistant

referee in these situations, whether it is needed is they didn't think it

was, but a brilliant strike. It is opening up. Soteldo is one of the

main reasons for that and he breezes past Clarke-Salter. Another one

fired in and blocked by Tomori. The game is really starting to open up.

That substitute has made such a difference. The whole Venezuela team

has been given a massive lift. Look how close Onomah was. I know what

you are thinking at home, England, World Cup final, off the bar and off

the line. Not this time. Penaranda. There is no Russian linesman. That

is the problem! Penaranda looks to the heavens in

frustration. He is the little man who is making a huge difference. 19

years old, Soteldo, and he has played for the senior side four

times already. I don't think Venezuela give caps. He scored three

goals at the South America youth championships at the start of this

year. Venezuela finished third in that. They noticed how well they

were going to do here. He looks a bit like Shakira. Short, stocky,

quicker and fitter. Kieran Dowell holding onto the shirt of Jose

Hernandez there. England need the likes of Lewis Cook, Onomah, to get

a grip of the game in midfield. Just wrestle back control of the ball.

Just have a ten minute spell where they can dominate possession and

calm things down. It has got frantic in the last five minutes.

Seeing what they can do with a free kick. Another good one and Kieran

Dowell headed it over his own crossbar. Did he? Over the top for a

goal kick. See the shot again. The goalkeeper like a statue. Absolutely

stranded. He can do nothing about it. Very unlucky. Not close enough

maybe for a virtual replay. Onomah is not having bad luck, this is a

World Cup final, but not on the right side of fortune in this

tournament. He was sent off against Mexico incredibly harshly. And he

had a free kick goal against him here. But that is a very good

learning curve as well. To realise that this level, international

football, some of these players have been playing lower down the leagues

perhaps, maybe getting away with things a bit more in their club

football. International football is refereed very differently. Some

challenges get punished. That is a great learning experience. Looping

up towards Calvert-Lewin. Herrera keeps it. We have four options and

he didn't get it right. Lewis Cook with the lift. Calvert-Lewin...

Calvert-Lewin does really well. And he wins the corner.

Again, positive. Taking people on. The defender slips. He gets a little

bit fortunate. The defender is diving in because he knows this is a

huge threat and he knows that Calvert-Lewin wants to go in behind

him. Swung over. Very nearly very good

luck for Solanke. Away goes such Aldo. -- away goes Soteldo. How

quick is he? Looking to the right. Looking to do it all himself! Swung

in for Penaranda to keep the attack moving. Penaranda will always go for

goal and look at Soteldo's reaction. Wrong decision in the end. Far too

selfish. He should have played it into the six yard box. Difficult

angle. A couple of defenders in front of him. His colleagues

frustrated with him on that occasion. He knew it, didn't he? As

soon as he struck it he was looking into the middle for the reaction. It

has either got to go in or colleagues will be shaking their

heads and pointing fingers. But this little fellow who has come on,

Soteldo, he looks absolutely outstanding. Incredibly bright and

sharp. The England change that we were

expecting has happened a few minutes later than it did in the semifinal

against Italy but it really made a difference then. No disservice to

Kieran Dowell, who has done everything simply, succinctly,

throughout the game, but the yellow card he got might have played a

part. And Ojo of Liverpool comes on to MIDI rival. Ojo was the creator

from the right wing of the first two goals that the side scored against

Italy last time out. Just a little bit more attack minded than Kieran

Dowell with his wing play, perhaps. Onomah, pulled at by Penaranda. The

decision by the referee. He tried to allow the advantage. Onomah like he

was in the first half, strong and powerful, holding players.

Kenny with the free kick. Solanke, and Ferraresi gets it away. Back to

Farinez. Looking for Cordova to get on the end of that. Clarke-Salter's

header away. Walker-Peters pushed to the floor

just outside the area. Just squeezed his way in between the

two defenders and gets blocked out. A simple decision for the referee.

This is a difficult position. Do you shoot from here, the corner of the

18-yard box? It is almost too close to try and cross it with any real

quality. It is one of those where you have just got to wickets towards

the far post and if someone gets a touch, it go in. -- you have just

got to whip it towards the far post and if someone gets a touch, it

might go in. Lookman has gone for goal and he didn't get it across to

the far post. He went for the near post in the end, much harder

technically to try and execute. You need more lift over the top of the

wall. It gets plenty of power but it never really troubles the

goalkeeper. A decent look at the West Brom flag behind the goal which

has been a permanent fixture at the England games so far courtesy of the

kit man. I thought we were going to have deja

vu there, Tomori has already put on past his own keeper this tournament,

I thought there was going to be another one! Good hands from Freddie

Woodman! I was just going to name check the kit man, Pat Frost on West

Bromwich Albion. He puts that flag up everywhere.

The support staff behind the scenes, the medical staff and the kit man,

are vital. I had a message from the doctor with a team who says they are

an outstanding bunch of young men, which is a really good to hear. I

think this is the whole point of St George's Park, this is what the FA

has tried to create, a new philosophy and a new mentality of

what playing for England is all about. It has started to come to

fruition. They have 25 minutes plus a bit more to hang on, or to make

things even better in the U20 World Cup final. There seems to be more of

the game now that Soteldo is on. Of course I am biased and I want

England to win, but I want to see Soteldo on the ball, I want to see

what he can do. He just gets you off your feet and excites you.

Soteldo gave it away that time. Look at the pace of Ojo, breezing past

Lucena. Try that again, Lucena was not having it so easily, but it will

be corner for England. Good defending from Lucena, I think he

was surprised by the pace of Ojo, having just come on, he was not

prepared for that. Doggett, determined defending. -- dogged,

determined. Went to the hangings want towards

Clarke-Salter. Fish went to the hanging one. I hope the likes of

Lewis Cook end up playing more football next season. He was Leeds

young Player of the Year the season before last, before he got his move

to Bournemouth. His opportunities this season have been a little bit

stifled. He is a quality player with experience who needs to play week

in, week out. I am sure part of that has been down to injury. The York

born midfielder has looked a leader and a player in this tournament.

There are racy with some important Venezuela defending, but a nasty

clash of heads has resulted -- Nahuel Ferraresi with some important

Venezuela defending. There is blood. But ultimately he is running around

on the floor. He is not spark out cold. He just catches the back of

the defender's head, it happens from time and time. The fact he is

rolling around is a good sign that he has not been sparked out

unconscious. The aforementioned Doctor's services are required.

Dominic Solanke get the applause of all as he gets back to an upright

position at least. England supporters not quite in full

celebratory move yet, Freddie Woodman has been tested in the

second half. They seem to be in much more of a game than in the first

half, but even then it was never clear cut and away. I know you are

shaking your head. It is unnecessary, it is a good game. The

wave only comes when it is a poor game to watch, this is not one of

those games! The good folk of the South Korean

town formed the bulk of the crowd. We saw some good games in the World

Cup in 2002, an average of five goals per game in the stadium.

Kevin Kilbane list from the penalty spot in the Spanish win against

Ireland. There seems to be an argument about

whether it is a corner or goal kick. There seems to be hesitation or

around in the award of it. It will be an England corner.

Ojo asked a little bit too much of himself. Goal kick.

Another consideration for the FA, looking at players like Ojo and

Tomori. Ademola Lookman, five players in this England squad could

choose at senior level to play for Nigeria. Again, I will be very

biased, but if you have the opportunity to play for England,

you've got to take it up. Who calls first could be the factor. You are

not tied playing in competitive U20 football. But the quality of

England, for me, far outweighs the chances you will have the Nigeria.

OK, you might go to the African Cup of Nations and get a medal. You

might win more stuff. But in terms of the competitions that really

matter on the world stage, the Europeans, the World Cup, England

would be your first port of call. Of course I will be by your stomach.

There might be parental pressure, too.

Sergio Cordova is off, the second Venezuela change. In his place is

Samuel Sosa, a famous sporting name. It is not the former baseball star.

Gianni Infantino, the head man at Fifa, is checking his team sheet. I

am not sure he was behind him, but there was no need for that yawn

excavation mug of a Sosa rescued Venezuela to make it 1-1 against

Uruguay. Venezuela penalty subsequently followed. Mr Infantino

is fully engaged. The referee gives a penalty of the

Venezuela, Adalberto Penaranda went down. England are calling for the

video assistant referee to be brought into use, they think the

referee has this wrong. Instantly the referee acknowledges that he

will go to the television replay. This is where it could be very, very

useful and spot-on. He has to make the decision, the referee has to

make the decision to allow the video assistant referee to get involved.

He makes the decision, now they can review it. Very good refereeing.

Freddie Woodman has just been told by the man in charge that he will

get notification from the VAR team, fully fledged and establish referees

themselves. The argument is that there was no contact, but there is,

I think it will be a penalty. Yes, I think it is knee on penalty. Really

good use of technology, exactly right.

Penaranda for Venezuelan, kept out by Woodman! In again, cleared by

Tomori. Freddie Woodman is England's Hiro. What a magnificent save. At

1.I thought he had gone the wrong way and it would be a simple

penalty, just to roll it in. But somehow manages to get an arm out

and save fat, incredible save. -- manages to get an arm out and save

that. Ojo held off Lucena, free kick for

Venezuela. But Venezuela mess up their golden opportunity to draw

level. The golden boy, Adalberto Penaranda, could not score from the

spot. Trying to bring in Soteldo. Ojo is down, a little push from

Hernandez. I think Ojo was stood on in that

challenge. Penaranda will be gutted, but what a save from Freddie

Woodman. I am sure we will see it again in a few moments. He almost

dived out of the way, it was straight down the middle but he got

a hand up and it is a really strong hand that he got on it to push the

ball away. Before that, a perfect example of the video assistant

referee, how it should be used. The referee made the decision coming he

was clear in his mind that it was a penalty. He has to give the decision

so that it can be referred, it just confirmed that he was right. If he

had not made the decision, it was a penalty, of course, you can't go

back to the video assistant referee. Solanke is patched up and back on

the field, plenty of Greece. Some butterfly stitches and maybe a

staple committee will be great. Maitland-Niles has come on to

replace Lookman. He is another with plenty of experience from his loan

spell at Ipswich the season before last. He has been on the fringe of

the Arsenal team, Arsene Wenger has announced he will be in the

first-team squad next season. Quick to make that announcement.

Watching England, it will not be cut and dry for some time. Equally, this

is a world final, two of the best teams in their age category in the

world. Solanke almost tricked his way past

Velazquez. England have to be careful not to be pressed back and

start sitting too deep in this last 13 minutes or so. With the penalty I

thought it was deja vu, in the last 16 against Costa Rica Freddie

Woodman saved a late penalty but the rebound was put in, it looked like

it would happen again. It was a really strong hands that he got out

too late. The left hand as he dived away, just able to push it far

enough away. Penaranda could not get the angle to squeeze in the rebound.

Herrera got within range. But Venezuela have a deeper range than

most teams, it seems. Simpson is a little more animated down there now.

This is a real crucial learning time for these young players. They are

under a little bit of pressure, 1-0 up, Venezuela will push and push and

push. They will try to really bombard the England goal. How do

they deal with it? This is about to gain management. What a fantastic

opportunity for these players to learn. -- this is about game

management. That was awkward for Solanke,

Maitland-Niles came in to help. A thrilling ending to the U20 World

Cup final. P was teed up for something

glorious. -- Pena was teed up. Here is the penalty. That is a really

strong hand. Does incredibly well. Effectively going the wrong way,

gets his hand up. He does not just stop it, he has enough power and

strength to push it away to safety. Freddie Woodman, son of Andy Woodman

and God so loved the England manager Gareth Southgate. -- and Godson of

the England manager. I would have loved to have seen his dad's face as

he made that face, he would have been jumping for joy. Farinez is a

very good goalkeeper at the other end. Without doubt there are an

awful lot of good players on show. Hernandez felt he was unfairly

launch from his feet by Ojo, the referee did not. Cook wings tonne

wins England a throw in and, perhaps more importantly, a little bit of

World Cup or not, it is a competitive game that actually means

something. It means everything for this group of players, some have for

whom -- some of whom have been together since the under 15 IS. They

are just a couple of minutes away from being world champions at the

U20 level. What a job Paul Simpson has done of organising them, getting

them just right, getting them tournament ready.

used to play as a striker but he did not strike that particularly

cleanly. He has scored a penalty at this level against Vanuatu is

Venezuela put seven pass them in the group stage quite a few games ago.

That was so awkward from Jake Clarke-Salter, got his feet in a

mess. I think it was going wide anyway but Woodman had to make sure.

England's football future? Words of thanks are offered up. Celebrations

on the field that will continue all that long flight home. The journey

goes on for this group of players. Freddie Woodman is understandably

mobbed by his team-mates for the huge party has played not just today

but all tournament long. There are words of consolation for the

Venezuela players as well. Their achievement should not be

understated. They have been brilliant all the way through to the

final but the final has been won by England. It might not be a senior

World Cup but how good does this sound? Venezuela zero, England one,

and England are world champions! Good lads! The captain is with the

players at the moment. Dominic Calvert-Lewin got the winner. How

good is this, Trevor? So good. To win the World Cup at such a young

age, you look at the contrast in the emotions with the Venezuela players,

you can see how much it means. Brilliant from the players and the

England squad and I thought they played well and deserved to win.

They are getting ready for what I am told is one of the longest

presentation ceremonies ever invented. There is a golden boot,

silver boot and a bronze boot to award! The trophy presentation

itself could be in about 20 minutes, we are doing that on the red button

for you. We have the triathlon coming up from Leeds. That will be

on the red button when we come off air on BBC Two. As far as the bigger

picture is concerned, Danny Mills. I wouldn't mind more under 20

internationals on Sunday mornings to talk about because that was great!

Brilliant game to watch. Both teams playing with confidence, with

expression, having a go, really wanting to win the game. Just a

really good game to watch. Chances, in the second half, Venezuela had to

try and get back into it. But what a great building block. And so much

spirit. You didn't see any rolling around, no acting, no wasting time.

I thought it was a brilliant performance from the players. They

really deserve a good pat on the back. Have a look at the penalty

incident. It was given by the referee and then confirmed by the

video assistant referee. Clarke-Salter with the challenge.

The referee gave it. And as you can see, he goes to the big screen. In

some ways it stops the arguing with the referee, surrounding him. In all

it took 38 seconds. I think that he has refereed this game exceptionally

well. With authority. He believes it is a penalty. He has got to blow the

whistle. And instantly he said he will check. He goes to the assistant

referee, look at the replay. It confirms it. It is a brilliant save

from Freddie Woodman. All his weight is the wrong way. He gets his left

arm out and it is a really strong hand. Not just to stop it but to put

it away to safety. Is it a contradiction to say that he went

the wrong way and have saved it? He is diving one way and the ball goes

the other. He almost dives past it. But to actually keep it out and push

it to a safe area where it can't be followed up and scored, brilliant.

Great core, really strong. He deserved it. He was top drawer

today. That is the goal-scorer, Calvert-Lewin. We can see the

winning goal of the game again. He missed the header, shot with a right

foot, rebound with a left foot. Great persistence. A simple

challenge but he has the wherewithal to go for a simple ball. Good from

the keeper but he has the composure to follow up his own shot. Great

composure. He tucked it into the corner. He deserves that for

persistence. The biggest thing for me, we all know these players are

very gifted and talented, with fantastic technique. The reason he

got himself into that situation was his bravery and physicality. And

going into a challenge where he could be heard. For that fact, he

will really appreciate what that part of the game means to him. He

has got a great physique and he did superb. They are going to friends

and family and maybe fans who are just there in South Korea as well.

But the England U20s have done their country proud. They have had a

fantastic tournament and they end it by winning it this Sunday morning.

You can see the heartbreak for Venezuela. It is the glory of

winning a World Cup, obviously. But the tournament would have been a

successful than anyhow, wouldn't it? Definitely. They are starting to

produce players. St George's Park is really starting to work. 17s, 18s,

19s and 21s producing good football. The tournament is on the red button.
