Good morning. We have an England men's football team in a World Cup | :00:32. | :00:37.
final and we have not had a chance to say that too often over the | :00:38. | :00:41.
years. At under 20 level this morning they are taking on | :00:42. | :00:44.
Venezuela. England got to the final in some style. | :00:45. | :01:37.
Brilliant ball! England are level. The back post. A big chance. Can he | :01:38. | :01:50.
score? Here we go! Amazing. Surely now? | :01:51. | :01:55.
Not long until kick-off. We will be in South Korea shortly for the | :01:56. | :01:59.
national anthems. Two former England international Sue also represented | :02:00. | :02:07.
the country at U21 level and are not on holiday! England got there in | :02:08. | :02:13.
style, but impressively, beating Argentina in the first group game. | :02:14. | :02:18.
Yes, and I think it is really important that players of this age | :02:19. | :02:22.
get tournament experience. We have talked about it for a long time. You | :02:23. | :02:26.
cannot underestimate how valuable it is to learn how to play in | :02:27. | :02:29.
tournaments and be away from home for long periods of time. A lot of | :02:30. | :02:34.
these players are not getting too much club football and it is vital. | :02:35. | :02:37.
Fair play. They have played well, they have scored goals and they have | :02:38. | :02:41.
looked solid and they deserve to be where they are. Goal-scorers get all | :02:42. | :02:45.
the attention, as you and I know. We will ignore that! Solanke has got | :02:46. | :02:50.
four in this tournament and on Chelsea's books and looking to go to | :02:51. | :02:55.
Liverpool. And the Everton player has got three. It is good for | :02:56. | :03:00.
Solanke, evidently. Yes, good for his confidence. He didn't play last | :03:01. | :03:04.
season. On the fringes at Chelsea. Got the move to Liverpool, from the | :03:05. | :03:09.
1st of July. Four goals in the tournament and looking really | :03:10. | :03:12.
confident. It looked like he has really got the zest for the game. At | :03:13. | :03:17.
such a young age it seems bizarre saying that. He has had a decent | :03:18. | :03:20.
experience a couple of years ago, scoring seven | :03:21. | :03:33.
goals in 21 games, and then didn't get a look in with Chelsea but he | :03:34. | :03:38.
has come back and he looks to be on fire and I am excited for his | :03:39. | :03:41.
Liverpool future. He made his debut in 2014, Solanke, one month after | :03:42. | :03:43.
turning 17. He has had more opportunities, the Everton player. | :03:44. | :03:47.
Is that because he has cost more money? Possibly. But it is the huge | :03:48. | :03:50.
problem we have between the age of 18 and 19 and 22 and 23. | :03:51. | :03:56.
Opportunities at top clubs are very limited. These are technical players | :03:57. | :04:00.
that have the ability to play in the Premier League. They are probably a | :04:01. | :04:05.
bit too good for League One, which is a problem. Managers don't quite | :04:06. | :04:08.
fancy them with the physicality of those leagues. If they are not | :04:09. | :04:11.
careful, they end up in no man's land. With Solanke going to | :04:12. | :04:15.
Liverpool, he needs to play, he needs to play football at this age. | :04:16. | :04:19.
They need the experience, playing football. If they are not playing | :04:20. | :04:23.
football at a giant club like Manchester City or Liverpool, they | :04:24. | :04:27.
need to go lower down, simple as that. Lewis Cook is the England | :04:28. | :04:33.
captain. Bought for ?7 million by Leeds. We will join Guy Mowbray | :04:34. | :04:35.
after the national anthems. Ladies and gentlemen, the national | :04:36. | :04:47.
anthem of Venezuela. # Gloria al bravo pueblo | :04:48. | :05:08.
# Que el yugo lanzo # La Ley respetando | :05:09. | :05:10.
# La virtud y honor # Gloria al bravo pueblo | :05:11. | :05:12.
# Que el yugo lanzo # La Ley respetando | :05:13. | :05:15.
# La virtud y honor # Y el pobre en su | :05:16. | :05:17.
choza # A este santo nombre | :05:18. | :05:28.
temblo de pavor # A este santo | :05:29. | :05:35.
nombre temblo de pavor And now the national anthem of | :05:36. | :05:47.
England. # Long | :05:48. | :06:46.
live our noble Queen Good morning, everyone, and welcome | :06:47. | :07:37.
to your Sunday morning bonus of watching an England football team in | :07:38. | :07:41.
a World Cup final. Any experience of an England team makes me hesitant to | :07:42. | :07:46.
say it, but they are favourites to win against a Venezuela side which | :07:47. | :07:49.
has gone much I above expectations to get to such a prestigious event. | :07:50. | :07:56.
On the world scene, theirs is a much bigger story than England's. Let's | :07:57. | :08:00.
take a look at the Venezuela side which has stayed pretty consistent | :08:01. | :08:03.
throughout the competition with eight of the starters having kicked | :08:04. | :08:08.
off every game. Two changes compared to the semifinal line-up. I and | :08:09. | :08:15.
left-back Jose Hernandez return from suspension. -- Williams Velasquez | :08:16. | :08:25.
and Jose Hernandez. Penaranda is a Watford player. Adding to the | :08:26. | :08:40.
collection of finals. Assisting the referees on the big screens: | :08:41. | :08:49.
The video assistant referee Assistant is by and large considered | :08:50. | :08:57.
to be a success at the competition so far. | :08:58. | :09:11.
Lewis Cook of Bournemouth is the man with the armband for England and he | :09:12. | :09:16.
has been impressive throughout the tournament. Everton have four | :09:17. | :09:21.
players starting today. Jonjoe Kenny, Kieran Dowell, Calvert-Lewin | :09:22. | :09:26.
and Lookman. The one change to semifinal success against Italy is | :09:27. | :09:39.
Onomah back from his ban, replacing an Arsenal player. Rafael Dudamel | :09:40. | :09:46.
coaches the senior and under 20 side. All things are never did play | :09:47. | :09:53.
for the senior side but he did play for the U21s. -- Paul Simpson never | :09:54. | :09:59.
did play. Specialist coach as recently as October this year. And | :10:00. | :10:08.
can Solanke and the Cottage and as top scorer? Four goals so far for | :10:09. | :10:16.
the soon Liverpool striker. -- can Solanke and the competition as top | :10:17. | :10:17.
scorer? Italy and Uruguay fought out a 0-0 | :10:18. | :10:30.
draw in the play-off game for third, with Italy winning on penalties. | :10:31. | :10:37.
Venezuela in their burgundy strip and England in all white. Danny | :10:38. | :10:41.
Mills is joining me for commentary. In my time machine! I bet you wish | :10:42. | :10:49.
you could go back in time to your U21 days to have the chance to play | :10:50. | :10:54.
in a game as fastidious as this. A fantastic achievement from Paul | :10:55. | :10:57.
Simpson and we should give credit to the FA as well for the extra | :10:58. | :11:01.
importance they are placing on the youth tournaments these days. The | :11:02. | :11:03.
experience that these young players pick up in these tournaments is | :11:04. | :11:08.
absolutely vital. Back when I was playing with the U21s, it really was | :11:09. | :11:16.
just a process with a tournament every now and then. You didn't get | :11:17. | :11:19.
big tournament atmospheres and you didn't get used to being away from | :11:20. | :11:23.
home for long periods. Now there is the U21s tournament. You used to | :11:24. | :11:31.
play in the U21s, then the under 23 and then into the senior side. And | :11:32. | :11:36.
we have seen it with the Spanish and German and Italian players, the | :11:37. | :11:40.
experience you get at this level, playing tournament football, | :11:41. | :11:42.
surviving away from home for long periods, it is vital. This team has | :11:43. | :11:51.
been together some time. The ball has been bounced out of play for a | :11:52. | :11:54.
Venezuela goalkick off Calvert-Lewin. If you in the side | :11:55. | :12:01.
got pretty regular game time in the Premier League towards the end of | :12:02. | :12:05.
last season. -- some of the players in the side. 11 appearances for | :12:06. | :12:12.
Everton all told, and five as a starter. Farinez is the Venezuela | :12:13. | :12:22.
goalkeeper. Only 5'9" but one of the most athletic. He has achieved the | :12:23. | :12:28.
distinction of scoring in this tournament from the penalty spot in | :12:29. | :12:43.
their 7-0 group win. Playing in the footsteps of his coach who was a | :12:44. | :12:47.
goalkeeper who netted against Argentina. Goal-scoring goalkeepers | :12:48. | :12:53.
are more in vogue in South America compared to Europe. | :12:54. | :13:02.
Walker-Peters crowded out. The Spurs full-back with a curious link to | :13:03. | :13:18.
Kyle Walker. He might be succeeded by Kyle Walker Peters one day, no | :13:19. | :13:20.
relation. Hernandez tried to play it straight | :13:21. | :13:39.
through Lookman, who did well. Freddie Woodman, the Newcastle | :13:40. | :13:59.
United goalkeeper, who played the last part of the season, ending with | :14:00. | :14:06.
Kilmarnock in Scotland. A lot of traffic to get through in terms of | :14:07. | :14:10.
goalkeepers at senior level, but once he make the breakthrough for a | :14:11. | :14:14.
good club, he is in a good position, being the godson of the current | :14:15. | :14:19.
England manager. His dad was a half decent keeper as well. Probably a | :14:20. | :14:23.
better character than he was goalkeeper. His dad was Andy | :14:24. | :14:28.
Woodman, from Crystal Palace and a long time at Northampton Town. Now | :14:29. | :14:36.
goalkeeping coach. Long-term friend and team-mate of Gareth Southgate. | :14:37. | :14:42.
I think what is important for those watching who are not too familiar | :14:43. | :14:47.
with South American football, especially Venezuela, this is | :14:48. | :14:53.
vitally important to these young players. Playing for your national | :14:54. | :14:57.
side for the likes of Venezuela, this is how you are going to move to | :14:58. | :15:01.
a bigger club. It is not about club football. This is where it is at for | :15:02. | :15:05.
them. It is vitally important that they play well and put in good | :15:06. | :15:07.
performances. Solanke has a run at Ferraresi and | :15:08. | :15:19.
gets passed on. Brought to an end by Ronald Hernandez and the referee | :15:20. | :15:25.
didn't see anything wrong with that challenge. He was looking for the | :15:26. | :15:28.
foul more than anything and expecting contact but it didn't | :15:29. | :15:32.
quite happen. That is good, positive. He has got the ball in the | :15:33. | :15:35.
final third of the pitch and he is running at people, trying to make | :15:36. | :15:41.
things happen. That is what this England team have done from day one | :15:42. | :15:47.
of the tournament. Perhaps a little bit of expression of the man in | :15:48. | :15:52.
charge, Paul Simpson, we can all remember him charging up and down | :15:53. | :15:55.
for Manchester City and Derby of good few years ago. Because of their | :15:56. | :16:01.
age, this site will make mistakes and sometimes the quality will not | :16:02. | :16:05.
be exactly where it needs to be. But what you want to see if progression, | :16:06. | :16:10.
seeing the players trying to play in the right way, trying to do the | :16:11. | :16:14.
right things. If there is a one-on-one situation, have a go at | :16:15. | :16:19.
your man. Don't pass it for passing's sick positive football. | :16:20. | :16:27.
Don't pass it around the back needlessly. This time it comes off | :16:28. | :16:30.
and next time it might not but these are the things you need to look for. | :16:31. | :16:35.
Lookman has been bright as a button in the opening six minutes. Bringing | :16:36. | :16:45.
Walker-Peters in again. Shoved off the ball but England have it back | :16:46. | :16:50.
with Lewis Cook. Jonjoe Kenny has overcooked that cross. Perfect | :16:51. | :16:58.
example of what I'm talking about. Good play. The ideas are right. | :16:59. | :17:02.
Lewis Cook gets the ball, plays it wide, looks for the cross to be | :17:03. | :17:06.
whipped in. OK, the quality is not quite there and he accept it and | :17:07. | :17:09.
that will come with experience and overtime. Jonjoe Kenny has oozed | :17:10. | :17:15.
quality throughout the tournament so far. He has played every minute for | :17:16. | :17:24.
England. Another player with that distinction is the centre-back, | :17:25. | :17:27.
Tomori of Chelsea. Williams Velasquez is that the heart | :17:28. | :17:38.
of the Venezuelan defence. He might be a Watford player one day. Playing | :17:39. | :17:48.
on loan for another of the Potso owned teams, with Udinese in Italy. | :17:49. | :17:59.
The man with a bleach blonde hair, Penaranda, another player who can | :18:00. | :18:04.
challenge but can frustrate as well. Herrera had to be patient. Jose | :18:05. | :18:17.
Hernandez almost onto it began, thwarted by Kieran Dowell. | :18:18. | :18:19.
Penaranda. You get the gist of what I mean by | :18:20. | :18:36.
individualistic. A good Venezuela move if Hernandez can get to it. He | :18:37. | :18:41.
couldn't quite. You can hear by the buzz of the crowd who the neutrals | :18:42. | :18:48.
are getting behind. A positive start by both sides. Those looking to get | :18:49. | :18:51.
forward and create opportunities and use the ball well in different | :18:52. | :18:57.
situations. Both of them clearly want to go out and attack and | :18:58. | :18:59.
showcase their skills. That is really important. | :19:00. | :19:10.
Clarke-Salter has been at Chelsea since he was nine and he has been on | :19:11. | :19:29.
loan to Bristol Rovers last season, a season interrupted by a broken | :19:30. | :19:29.
elbow. Lookman gives the ball away in | :19:30. | :19:43.
trying to find Onomah. They have spotted an infringement. Explaining | :19:44. | :19:54.
the nature of it to Herrera. I think Lookman was fortunate in that | :19:55. | :20:00.
situation. I think he was expecting to get the free kick. They did him a | :20:01. | :20:04.
bit of a favour. Calvert-Lewin manages to break it | :20:05. | :20:22.
into Solanke. Arenas Ingold got in the way of the shot. -- Farinez | :20:23. | :20:29.
Ingold. Really good move but the finish wasn't quite there. He ends | :20:30. | :20:34.
up scuffing it and catches the top of the ball and doesn't get a clean | :20:35. | :20:37.
connection and it is a comfortable save that pretty much it is the | :20:38. | :20:41.
goalkeeper in the end. A really good move from England. Kieran Dowell | :20:42. | :20:48.
with the England corner. Solanke on the move but it is over him. | :20:49. | :20:54.
Calvert-Lewin could not do much with it either. The Venezuela goalkick | :20:55. | :20:57.
however. Farinez is 19 years of age and | :20:58. | :21:13.
already three times capped by the Venezuelan senior national side. The | :21:14. | :21:16.
distinction of saving a penalty by Alexis Sanchez at the end of March | :21:17. | :21:20.
in a World Cup qualifier game against Chile. Venezuela on the | :21:21. | :21:25.
wrong end of a defeat, 3-1, and they are out of contention in the World | :21:26. | :21:31.
Cup qualifying group. They will not be in Russia next year. That is why | :21:32. | :21:35.
extra importance has been placed on this age group, the next generation, | :21:36. | :21:39.
for a country that does not have much footballing pedigree. Baseball | :21:40. | :21:43.
has been the main sport over the years. They are almost the exception | :21:44. | :21:49.
in South America for that. If they are not already, the majority of | :21:50. | :21:52.
these players will not be playing in Venezuela. They will be playing in | :21:53. | :21:59.
all four corners of the globe. They are all of decent standard. Not | :22:00. | :22:05.
really at the pinnacle of anyone's career so they will be looking to | :22:06. | :22:07.
move abroad as soon as possible. Ronaldo Chacon is doing much of the | :22:08. | :23:03.
running around for Venezuela. Onomah, that was smart. | :23:04. | :23:12.
Just a little pull back on the shoulder of Clarke-Salter, giving | :23:13. | :23:24.
England a free kick. The Venezuela number nine, Ronaldo Pena, scored in | :23:25. | :23:29.
their opening win against Germany. Three players in their team and five | :23:30. | :23:38.
at competition overwrote. They were all born in 97, so it makes sense, | :23:39. | :23:44.
and all named after Ronaldo of Brazil. | :23:45. | :24:07.
Taken by Walker-Peters. Dowell sending it off towards Solanke. | :24:08. | :24:26.
Walker-Peters. Solanke. Lookman trying to play it through the legs | :24:27. | :24:38.
of the right back, Hernandez. He will undoubtedly be on his way from | :24:39. | :24:41.
his home country sometimes in. Arguably the best full-back at the | :24:42. | :24:44.
South American youth championships earlier this year. | :24:45. | :24:57.
Clarke-Salter's throw. England settling well, playing with | :24:58. | :25:05.
confidence, and Venezuela playing as they have done all tournament. They | :25:06. | :25:10.
are lively. And in some ways pretty unpredictable. And as other teams | :25:11. | :25:18.
have found out, they can hurt you. One factor will be if this goes the | :25:19. | :25:22.
distance. Venezuela have gone to extra time in all three of their | :25:23. | :25:29.
neck out times -- knockout games so far. Solanke! The hit that clearly | :25:30. | :25:35.
towards goal but not cleanly enough. No, but England are playing in the | :25:36. | :25:38.
right way. I have been quite impressed so far. They are looking | :25:39. | :25:42.
to get the ball forward when they can and create opportunities. They | :25:43. | :25:44.
haven't really tested the goalkeeper as yet. That scuffed shot earlier on | :25:45. | :25:51.
from Solanke when he just missed it, going well wide. They are playing in | :25:52. | :25:58.
the right manner, trying to do the right things, and that is really | :25:59. | :26:03.
important at this age. They are showing a lot of confidence. This is | :26:04. | :26:06.
still a World Cup final for them and they are not showing any nerves at | :26:07. | :26:07.
present. Freddie Woodman comes to catch and | :26:08. | :26:35.
very cleanly taken. One of the few who have made the journey up from | :26:36. | :26:39.
being part of the team that won the under 17 European Championships | :26:40. | :26:44.
three years ago. This is a group that has stuck together, by and | :26:45. | :26:54.
large, with a few dips in and out. Continuity being seen as a crucial | :26:55. | :27:01.
part of their development. But the biggest part, the next stage of | :27:02. | :27:04.
their development, is playing senior football that matters. Forget about | :27:05. | :27:13.
playing U21s, and 23s for your club. These players need to start playing | :27:14. | :27:19.
first team football. Saturday afternoon, whatever it may be, but | :27:20. | :27:24.
they need to play for three points competitively and learned that side | :27:25. | :27:27.
of the game. We were discussing that pre-kick-off and working out how | :27:28. | :27:32.
many of these England players will get regular game time next season. A | :27:33. | :27:36.
bit of a struggle. Lewis Cook at Bournemouth could be well placed and | :27:37. | :27:41.
a couple of the Everton boys, but otherwise you could expect these | :27:42. | :27:46.
players on loan at a championship ground near you next season. And it | :27:47. | :27:51.
is absolutely vital. This age group of 19 to 23, we know there is a huge | :27:52. | :27:56.
blockage in that pathway. When you look at the likes of players at | :27:57. | :28:00.
Ajax, the amount of games those young players of this sort of age | :28:01. | :28:07.
have played is exceptional. Calvert-Lewin, trying to put it | :28:08. | :28:11.
across towards Kieran Dowell, but relatively comfortable for Farinez | :28:12. | :28:14.
to put out. Good strength displayed by Sergio | :28:15. | :28:28.
Cordova. Away by to that not cleanly. -- away | :28:29. | :29:03.
by to Tomori but not cleanly. And then did well to get plenty of power | :29:04. | :29:11.
in that short backlift. He had to lean back slightly. Freddie Woodman | :29:12. | :29:14.
watched it fly over the bar quite comfortably. A healthy contingent of | :29:15. | :29:22.
England supporters here, as there always is whenever England place | :29:23. | :29:34.
anywhere in the globe. In Suwon this evening. A few jetted out when | :29:35. | :29:41.
England got this far. Without a doubt. I am sure most of these | :29:42. | :29:44.
people will have family and friends out there. It is a World Cup final. | :29:45. | :29:50.
It is not very often England, if ever, make it to a World Cup final! | :29:51. | :29:55.
This is hugely important for us so far. Just to make that point, not in | :29:56. | :30:01.
any Fifa organise World Cup finals and is a big one of 1966. It is | :30:02. | :30:08.
hugely important and a proud moment for these young players. | :30:09. | :30:31.
Not on the Fifa scale but, Danny, I was going to ask why you have not | :30:32. | :30:38.
been in Thailand? It might have missed your attention but an England | :30:39. | :30:44.
senior side won the seniors cup, they beat Iran in the final. I | :30:45. | :30:47.
thought she would have been playing in that. Not old enough. Yes you | :30:48. | :30:55.
are! Not good enough, maybe that is what it is. The other U20 side won | :30:56. | :31:01.
the two lob tournament in the south of France yesterday, England's women | :31:02. | :31:05.
won their friendly in Switzerland, just the senior side not beating | :31:06. | :31:10.
Scotland, the only ones not successful this weekend so far. They | :31:11. | :31:15.
did not get beat. The character they showed, it could have collapsed. It | :31:16. | :31:23.
would have been easy just to accept defeat but they didn't. They showed | :31:24. | :31:28.
a lot of character to keep going. Harry Kane, one chance, a great | :31:29. | :31:33.
finish. Sometimes you can't win every single game but it is vitally | :31:34. | :31:39.
important not to lose. Something that supporters sometimes do not | :31:40. | :31:46.
understand. England have been average for some time. You listen to | :31:47. | :31:52.
lots of people talking about it and reporting and they say, it is | :31:53. | :31:58.
typical England. If it is typical, why are we surprised? | :31:59. | :32:06.
Lookman got his shot away. Well saved by Farinez. Lookman was under | :32:07. | :32:10.
pressure from Yangel Herrera, did well to hit it as well as he did. | :32:11. | :32:15.
Showed really good strength, held off the first challenge. I thought | :32:16. | :32:20.
he might be tempted to go down. Caught it really sweetly, just a | :32:21. | :32:25.
little bit too close to the goalkeeper but good strength, pace | :32:26. | :32:26.
and power. A chance, it was not taken by | :32:27. | :32:40.
Calvert-Lewin. Seem to snatch at it, it was a little bit worried. His | :32:41. | :32:47.
eyes lit up. Lookman, a really sweet straight, it just bounced up nicely | :32:48. | :32:53.
for him. Calvert-Lewin, I think he saw the headlines, goal in a World | :32:54. | :33:00.
Cup final. Just snatched from him. Kabasele grew up on the same | :33:01. | :33:07.
Sheffield estate is Jamie Vardy. -- he grew up on the same Sheffield | :33:08. | :33:09.
estate is Jamie Vardy. The referee seems in quite | :33:10. | :33:36.
authoritative moods today. One of the more experienced officials on | :33:37. | :33:45.
the world stage. That fact about him, he co-owns a supermarket and | :33:46. | :33:52.
hair salon! And effort on goal, it beat Woodman. What a strike that | :33:53. | :33:58.
was, it caught everybody out. At first glance, I think Freddie | :33:59. | :34:01.
Woodman might have got his fingertips to that. It was an | :34:02. | :34:06.
awfully long way out, caught everybody by surprise. England very, | :34:07. | :34:09.
very fortunate to get away with that. What a connection from Ronaldo | :34:10. | :34:19.
Lucena. Maybe not quite. He was beaten. I | :34:20. | :34:25.
think he will argue he had it covered, as goalkeepers do, but what | :34:26. | :34:31.
a strike. 40 yards out, absolutely brilliant strike bending both ways. | :34:32. | :34:36.
It is one of those you hardly bothered to get a wall organised | :34:37. | :34:38.
for. I don't think you do, at that | :34:39. | :34:42.
distance. Goalkeepers and walls and free kicks. A huge amount of talk | :34:43. | :34:49.
after last night. But I don't think anybody expected him to shoot. | :34:50. | :34:58.
Venezuela have found some confidence. I like the way they go | :34:59. | :35:07.
about things, a freedom about their play. For both teams, it is sharp | :35:08. | :35:15.
and crisp. Nobody is dwelling on the ball. People are looking for | :35:16. | :35:18.
opportunities. An important five minutes now for England to settle | :35:19. | :35:26.
down after that shot hit the post, they looks panicky for a couple of | :35:27. | :35:30.
minutes after that. A shoot on sight policy! Chacon went | :35:31. | :35:55.
to the goal. This is the free kick again. / incredibly well. A short | :35:56. | :36:00.
follow-through, gets that movement and the dip. -- it was/ incredibly | :36:01. | :36:11.
well. Freddie Woodman will be incredibly delighted when he heard | :36:12. | :36:14.
that hit the post. We have seen the exciting aspect of | :36:15. | :36:52.
Venezuela's attacking play. They have yet to concede from open play | :36:53. | :36:56.
in 90 minutes of games that this tournament. It is already | :36:57. | :37:01.
established that they have an athletic goalkeeper and a solid back | :37:02. | :37:07.
four. They are carrying the hopes of a | :37:08. | :37:10.
country wracked by conflict at the moment. Horrible problems in | :37:11. | :37:16.
Venezuela over the last two months. It has affected those players here | :37:17. | :37:20.
and the coach, Rafael Dudamel. He could not hold back the tears, never | :37:21. | :37:25.
mind after, during the penalty shoot out in the semifinal. | :37:26. | :37:32.
Walker-Peters and Ronald Hernandez, Hernandez came off hurting more. | :37:33. | :37:42.
Coach Dudamel is instructing England to hold on with the throw. | :37:43. | :37:47.
Completely accidental, just a clash of heads. Both players going for the | :37:48. | :37:52.
ball. Hernandez got there just a fraction early. I think is | :37:53. | :37:58.
Venezuelan team are quite tough. They don't mind scrapping it out. | :37:59. | :38:06.
Talking of conflict, police were called to their hotel last night, | :38:07. | :38:10.
the afternoon in UK time, there was a row between Uruguay's players and | :38:11. | :38:15.
Venezuela's following the stormy semifinal. It broke into an all-out | :38:16. | :38:19.
fight. Fifa have confirmed it is an altercation. Not too many bearing | :38:20. | :38:23.
scores this morning. William Velazquez was a little bit | :38:24. | :38:56.
uncertain. It will be an England throw, credit Jonjoe Kenny for | :38:57. | :38:56.
making up the ground. Lookman felt he was impeded by | :38:57. | :39:27.
Hernandez, the referee thought differently. | :39:28. | :39:59.
The free kick has gone England's way, much to the astonishment of | :40:00. | :40:17.
Velazquez. Dell gets the free kick. -- Kieran Dowell gets the free kick. | :40:18. | :40:21.
I was surprised about, I thought he had arrived later than Velazquez. I | :40:22. | :40:27.
expected the free kick to go the other way. | :40:28. | :40:48.
Then as well are trying to get Pena to use his power, he is doing about | :40:49. | :40:56.
-- Venezuela are trying to get Pena to use his power. | :40:57. | :41:10.
I just wonder if Solanke had been more positive and braver going to | :41:11. | :41:16.
challenge the goalkeeper, he might have been able to nip the ball in | :41:17. | :41:18.
front of him. Just over 31 minutes gone. England | :41:19. | :41:32.
have a corner. Just long downfield. Do you see, it | :41:33. | :41:54.
is almost like he saw the goalkeeper coming and just pulled out a little | :41:55. | :41:58.
bit. Sometimes you want your centre forward to challenge the goalkeeper. | :41:59. | :42:10.
Header on goal, without sufficient power, from Calvert-Lewin. Back to | :42:11. | :42:16.
the earlier one, it is a situation we do not see often, the striker had | :42:17. | :42:19.
the height advantage on the goalkeeper. Farinez is only five | :42:20. | :42:28.
foot nine. He has his hands, of course! | :42:29. | :42:49.
In my experience of watching England, Farinez will have an | :42:50. | :42:54.
absolutely world beating day in goal today. | :42:55. | :43:14.
Real Madrid had had interest in him is a very young teenager, they will | :43:15. | :43:26.
still be monitoring them. -- they will still be monitoring him. | :43:27. | :43:46.
Another one goes to England, Kieran Dowell involved again. Again, I | :43:47. | :43:56.
might have thought that would have possibly gone the other way. I | :43:57. | :44:05.
suppose it is 50/ 50. England have the benefit of the doubt on a couple | :44:06. | :44:15.
of occasions. The chump with Finney raised caught the referee's | :44:16. | :44:27.
attention. -- the jump with the knee race. Calvert-Lewin is took a second | :44:28. | :44:33.
chance, England have taken the lead! Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin with | :44:34. | :44:40.
a goal that maybe just puts England on the way to becoming world | :44:41. | :44:48.
champions at this level. Great persistence from Calvert-Lewin | :44:49. | :44:53.
in the end. First chance, a really good save from the goalkeeper. The | :44:54. | :44:56.
goalkeeper was a little bit unfortunate that it rebounded | :44:57. | :45:00.
straight back to the centre forward, who got a second bite at the cherry. | :45:01. | :45:09.
Clearly onside. That is a really good save. Unfortunately for the | :45:10. | :45:14.
goalkeeper, he can't quite make the rebound. Great persistence. He does | :45:15. | :45:20.
not show disappointment, he goes after his own rebound and slots it | :45:21. | :45:26.
in the bottom corner. Whatever age group, that is a goal in a World Cup | :45:27. | :45:32.
final. Right foot, left foot, finished. Venezuelan Mill, England | :45:33. | :45:45.
one. -- Venezuela nil. Calvert-Lewin 's has his second goal in the | :45:46. | :45:50.
competition. He is only the third ever English player to score a goal | :45:51. | :45:55.
in a World Cup final! Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the same breath as | :45:56. | :45:58.
Sir Geoff Hurst. Solanke, turned away by Hernandez. | :45:59. | :46:22.
England are pushing now. When Venezuela hits the post from that | :46:23. | :46:28.
outrageous great free kick, I think England have dominated since that, | :46:29. | :46:32.
especially possession, up until now. I think they have controlled the | :46:33. | :46:36.
majority of the game and created better chances. They thoroughly | :46:37. | :46:42.
deserved the lead. Walker-Peters was trying to bustle through. | :46:43. | :46:52.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin was checking whether he would be on site or not. | :46:53. | :47:04.
-- onside. Is simple free kick picked up, great persistence by | :47:05. | :47:08.
Calvert-Lewin. Challenges the first header, goes after the knock-down, | :47:09. | :47:12.
does not get disappointed when the goalkeeper saves the first, he is | :47:13. | :47:16.
bright and sharp enough to go after his own rebound and slotted in the | :47:17. | :47:22.
bottom corner. Should the centre-back have done better against | :47:23. | :47:29.
that first ball? Yes, if you cannot win because of a height disadvantage | :47:30. | :47:34.
you have to block him, be strong, get your arms out. You are not even | :47:35. | :47:37.
allowed to run into the penalty area. But you have to give the | :47:38. | :47:41.
Englishman a lot of credit for that persistence. Before that goal he | :47:42. | :47:49.
scored against Argentina in the group stage, the opening game. The | :47:50. | :47:55.
goal that had been watched by more people would have been the one in | :47:56. | :47:58.
the Premier League against Hull City in March. This one with the Three | :47:59. | :48:03.
Lions on his shirt. I hope England now just continue to | :48:04. | :48:21.
play in the same way they have done until now. They have been very, very | :48:22. | :48:26.
positive, they have looked to get the ball forward with quality and | :48:27. | :48:31.
get it forward early. I don't want them to sit back and just think | :48:32. | :48:36.
let's protect this lead. Carry on doing what has been successful up | :48:37. | :48:37.
until now. Whenever Lookman gets the ball at | :48:38. | :48:52.
his feet, he runs with it. He has abundance of pace and power and also | :48:53. | :48:58.
was probably the most experienced player in this side. He has played | :48:59. | :49:05.
in the Championship, in the Premier League, against ferocious opponents | :49:06. | :49:10.
for a player of his age. He played close to 50 games for Charlton | :49:11. | :49:16.
before moving to Everton. Going for gold from distance seems | :49:17. | :49:19.
to be a Venezuelan trade, something that he likes to do. It seems like | :49:20. | :49:25.
they will go with if we have enough shots from distance, one will fly | :49:26. | :49:29.
in. They were very unlucky with the free kick earlier. It is speculative | :49:30. | :49:37.
from that sort of range. It is to be an absolute worldie. Watford fans | :49:38. | :49:43.
have been watching with interest, he has not played for Watford yet, he | :49:44. | :49:48.
has been on loan to Granada the seasons before last and at Udinese | :49:49. | :49:53.
and Malaga this season and barely had any game time with them. | :49:54. | :50:23.
Lookman pokes fun through to Calvert-Lewin. Good goalkeeping from | :50:24. | :50:33.
Farinez. Excellent goalkeeping, really sharp, click off his line but | :50:34. | :50:36.
another really good move from England. Slick, one, two touch | :50:37. | :50:44.
passing, looking to play the ball forward at every opportunity. Very | :50:45. | :50:47.
unlucky to create another goal-scoring chance. | :50:48. | :51:03.
There is a vacancy at left footed centre-back on Chelsea's books now! | :51:04. | :51:12.
But this season might be one too soon for Clarke-Salter. | :51:13. | :51:29.
Venezuela get the decision this time, and in a very useful position. | :51:30. | :51:36.
England defending free kicks from this range, we have heard that this | :51:37. | :51:45.
weekend and Cena twice. -- seen it twice. This is a lot closer, well | :51:46. | :51:52.
within shooting distance. It becomes very clear, you will wait for my | :51:53. | :51:53.
whistle. Joe Hart could barely see past the | :51:54. | :52:09.
wall yesterday, Freddie Woodman should get a good view today. Lucena | :52:10. | :52:22.
will leave the shots De Pena Rand air. -- the to Adalberto Penaranda. | :52:23. | :52:35.
Woodman must have had his bearing spot-on, my heart was in my mouth. | :52:36. | :52:43.
I think he certainly would have had a sharp intake of breath. Inches | :52:44. | :52:52.
wide, really good quality. This is the chance to Calvert-Lewin, really | :52:53. | :53:00.
good goalkeeping denied England. Just two and a half minutes plus | :53:01. | :53:04.
whatever is added on until half-time. Venezuela have been | :53:05. | :53:04.
buoyed by their free kick effort. Ferraresi got across that one well. | :53:05. | :53:21.
Handball appeals from Paul Simpson. His appeal is upheld, England free | :53:22. | :53:22.
kick. Walker-Peters gets everything on his | :53:23. | :53:51.
right foot, he is more of a right back than a left-back everyday use. | :53:52. | :53:56.
-- in everyday use. This will be the first time the | :53:57. | :54:18.
tournament, unless they can do something in the next minute and a | :54:19. | :54:22.
bit, that Venezuela have gone in at half-time as the team behind. | :54:23. | :54:31.
England were very strong in the second half of their semifinal | :54:32. | :54:35.
against Italy, they were a goal behind at the break but hit back | :54:36. | :54:41.
with two from Dominic Solanke and one from Ademola Lookman. It was a | :54:42. | :54:45.
terrific second 45 minutes in the semifinal. | :54:46. | :55:20.
England goal kick. Let's look at the Penaranda free | :55:21. | :55:34.
kick, he got too much bend on it. He has scored twice in the tournament, | :55:35. | :55:42.
including against the USA in the quarterfinal win. They needed extra | :55:43. | :55:47.
time for that, they needed penalties in the semifinal against Uruguay. | :55:48. | :56:10.
Velazquez comes up to assist Jose Hernandez. Kenny was not about to | :56:11. | :56:18.
leave him alone. That was the last action of the | :56:19. | :56:33.
first half, a first half that is England's. Venezuela rattled the | :56:34. | :56:41.
post from some range courtesy of Lucena, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin | :56:42. | :56:45.
found a way in at the other end. His second goal of the tournament is the | :56:46. | :56:49.
only goal of the U20 World Cup finals so far. England are halfway | :56:50. | :56:59.
there. At the break and South Korea, it is Venezuela nil, England one. | :57:00. | :57:04.
By the magic of television, Danny Mills is now back in the studio. How | :57:05. | :57:08.
does that work?! Away from the commentary box and back in the | :57:09. | :57:12.
studio alongside Trevor Sinclair. We will let Danny get his breath back, | :57:13. | :57:17.
he is not as fit as he was! That was very enjoyable, not bucketloads of | :57:18. | :57:22.
chances but very enjoyable. Great watch, some technical players giving | :57:23. | :57:26.
it all, as you would expect in a cup final. I have been really impressed. | :57:27. | :57:40.
Spatial awareness is good, great confidence, no fear. We were talking | :57:41. | :57:42.
of air, a couple of years down the line they might get fear, but if you | :57:43. | :57:46.
could keep this and bottle it hit is priceless. There has been a freedom, | :57:47. | :57:48.
I suppose, both teams, but from an England perspective, they have both | :57:49. | :57:53.
gone for it. That is not often the case in cup finals. There was a lot | :57:54. | :57:57.
of confidence. Lots of these players are big characters that their clubs, | :57:58. | :58:01.
they have a lot of confidence, they are playing the right way. They will | :58:02. | :58:05.
make mistakes because they are young, it is what happens with young | :58:06. | :58:10.
players, but they are trying to do the right things, trying to play in | :58:11. | :58:19.
the right way. I use the example of Ajax several times, they are very, | :58:20. | :58:22.
very similar. As long as they do that, show progression and try to do | :58:23. | :58:24.
the right thing, you will accept mistakes. They look like they are | :58:25. | :58:28.
enjoying it, they have smiles on their faces, that is brilliant as a | :58:29. | :58:33.
footballer. We will see the goal in a second, but talking about smiling | :58:34. | :58:37.
and not fearing mistakes, is it easier to have that mentality when | :58:38. | :58:42.
you are your peers rather than, say, going into a first-team amongst | :58:43. | :58:49.
experienced players? I think I said in commentary, the next level for | :58:50. | :58:54.
these players is to step into senior football on a regular basis when it | :58:55. | :58:58.
matters for three points, four people's livelihoods, not just | :58:59. | :59:02.
players but people behind-the-scenes, ground staff... | :59:03. | :59:07.
The crowd. That is the next level. They have ability and confidence but | :59:08. | :59:11.
now they have to find a club where they can play regularly for what it | :59:12. | :59:17.
matters. That is what it is about, experiences and being comfortably | :59:18. | :59:20.
uncomfortable. These lads are playing, lots of them, they have | :59:21. | :59:25.
played Championship and Premier League football, this is a walk in | :59:26. | :59:28.
the park, they do not feel nervous energy, they are going out and | :59:29. | :59:32.
expressing themselves because they feel comfortable. As soon as they | :59:33. | :59:36.
get in the Premier League or playing against men who supersede them in | :59:37. | :59:41.
experience and possibly pace and strength, can you make that step up | :59:42. | :59:45.
and feel comfortable? You often talk about the perfect hat-trick, a girl | :59:46. | :59:51.
with your right foot, left foot and your head, Dominic Calvert-Lewin got | :59:52. | :59:55.
all of those in the build-up to this one! Great technique. Lots of | :59:56. | :00:00.
players would slash that over the bar, great composure at the end. | :00:01. | :00:05.
Putting your head in way you could get hurt, no shrinking violet, | :00:06. | :00:10.
showing his experience, can in front of goal, an excellent individual | :00:11. | :00:16.
goal. Danny? He does not put his head down and think, oh, I have | :00:17. | :00:21.
missed. It is a really good save from the goalkeeper, as he follows | :00:22. | :00:25.
this one up, Trevor is right, great calmness under pressure. He just | :00:26. | :00:30.
waits, bides his time and slotted into the corner. The fact he does | :00:31. | :00:35.
not give up, keeps going and is calm under pressure is something we have | :00:36. | :00:38.
not seen from too many English players lately. We hope it does not | :00:39. | :00:42.
go to penalties but the England manager Paul Simpson said they have | :00:43. | :00:46.
practised from the very start. The squad came together ahead of the | :00:47. | :00:50.
tournament. Venezuela have practised free kicks! | :00:51. | :00:56.
Two efforts on goal and disbursement of us all by surprise. Freddie | :00:57. | :01:01.
Woodman in the England goal, brilliant technique. That is a great | :01:02. | :01:08.
shot, on camera and on the pitch! It starts to go to the right and then | :01:09. | :01:11.
it comes back to the left-hand side and it is that technique of not | :01:12. | :01:14.
following all the way through. That little bit of swerve and dip. That | :01:15. | :01:22.
was a foot of the centre circle. That is what you call a World Cup | :01:23. | :01:32.
Willie shot! I don't think Freddie Woodman gets anywhere near this if | :01:33. | :01:36.
it is in the top corner. Half a foot inside and it is in the top corner. | :01:37. | :01:41.
Great technique, up and down, super effort. Now let's look at a couple | :01:42. | :01:44.
of the England players who have impressed. Lipman has pulled the | :01:45. | :01:49.
strings. He has got pace and power and experience. -- Lookman has | :01:50. | :01:56.
pulled the strings. From the very first minute he has tried to make | :01:57. | :02:01.
things happen. He has had the opportunity one-on-one, even two on | :02:02. | :02:04.
one at times, and he has run at people. He takes people on and try | :02:05. | :02:10.
to create chances. Last night during the England game, people were | :02:11. | :02:12.
passing it sideways and playing safe. You want your creative players | :02:13. | :02:19.
to take a risk. I think it is one of them that gets bottoms on seats in | :02:20. | :02:25.
the stands. Players that are prepared to take on the opposition. | :02:26. | :02:32.
Just a little bit overhit there, but his agility, his balance and speed, | :02:33. | :02:36.
he has got the lot. We have seen him score for Everton. We have seen him | :02:37. | :02:43.
with Charlton. He has got a big future. How often do we say that a | :02:44. | :02:47.
big price tag weighs heavily on a player's shoulders? This is the | :02:48. | :02:53.
opposite. He has decided he is a ?10 million player and he is going to go | :02:54. | :02:54.
and shouted. And the man who is in the middle of | :02:55. | :03:06.
midfield for England? He has been a man against boys at times. He is so | :03:07. | :03:12.
strong and physical. His awareness, his passing ability. Sometimes you | :03:13. | :03:16.
talk about uncomfortable situations like that, players panicked. He | :03:17. | :03:19.
doesn't. He holds them off and he knows how strong he is and his end | :03:20. | :03:24.
product has been superb and I am impressed with his performance. A | :03:25. | :03:26.
lot of these players have played together for a long time. Lewis Cook | :03:27. | :03:30.
sitting beside him, very experienced. A lot of Championship | :03:31. | :03:34.
football and Premier League. He is happy to sit there and allow him to | :03:35. | :03:39.
do that. These players are very well blended together as well. 11 of them | :03:40. | :03:43.
played together in the under 19s tournament as well so they have that | :03:44. | :03:50.
history and team spirit and they gelled together which is very | :03:51. | :03:53.
important away from home. In so many senior tournaments, we get three | :03:54. | :03:55.
weeks in, and we talk about them being bored and struggling and being | :03:56. | :03:59.
cooped up. They have been together a long time and they are much younger | :04:00. | :04:02.
so arguably they should be more frustrated. But Paul Simpson says | :04:03. | :04:07.
they have not asked for a night out. They are not old enough! But they | :04:08. | :04:11.
have been happy in the camp they are wrapped and they have had plenty to | :04:12. | :04:16.
use them as well. And this is vital going forward for when they get to | :04:17. | :04:20.
an U21 tournament and hopefully senior tournaments. They have had | :04:21. | :04:24.
this experience. Germany and Spain have done it. All their top players, | :04:25. | :04:28.
their World Cup winners, have played at the under 20 level, and U21, and | :04:29. | :04:34.
done very well in tournaments. Trevor and I have been away for long | :04:35. | :04:38.
periods of time and it does get difficult. South Korea. Credit to | :04:39. | :04:43.
Paul, and not just the coaching staff, the medical team, the | :04:44. | :04:46.
doctors, the chefs, they have got to make the players feel at home and | :04:47. | :04:50.
comfortable and they have obviously got that right. And players on the | :04:51. | :04:54.
fringes, not starting every game, they can be poison in a dressing | :04:55. | :04:57.
room. Paul Simpson is dealing with them, making sure they are part of | :04:58. | :05:05.
it as well. There are governing bodies in any sport. Fans on one | :05:06. | :05:09.
side, seats on the other. But if you expand on that, and England have not | :05:10. | :05:13.
won yet, but it has been successful tournament whether they win or not, | :05:14. | :05:18.
but the FA deserve credit. Not only for the money they have put into | :05:19. | :05:22.
this to allow Paul Simpson to do his work out there, but also the | :05:23. | :05:25.
analytical team back here at St George's Park, providing all the | :05:26. | :05:30.
analysis help that Paul Simpson needs and sending it back to South | :05:31. | :05:35.
Korea. Definitely. This goes back to when Gareth Southgate was put in | :05:36. | :05:38.
charge of elite performance. Five or six years ago. He said actually we | :05:39. | :05:44.
are going to create a pathway for the England team. They are all at St | :05:45. | :05:48.
George's Park. When these guys come here, they are not in the best hotel | :05:49. | :05:52.
at St George's Park. They are lower down the food chain but they are | :05:53. | :05:55.
trained in the right way. They feel part of England and they can see a | :05:56. | :06:00.
pathway of going from the seven teams, the nine teams, 20, 20 ones, | :06:01. | :06:06.
and hopefully into the senior side. And at the moment it looks like it | :06:07. | :06:11.
is working. The proof of the pudding is when it gets to the senior side. | :06:12. | :06:15.
Unfortunately last night was not as good as we hoped. The senior team | :06:16. | :06:26.
drew do- to with Scotland. -- the team drew 2-2. Harry Kane equalised | :06:27. | :06:35.
in injury time. What did not help Scotland's cause was that Slovenia | :06:36. | :06:38.
and Slovakia both won, leaving Scotland with a lot of work to do if | :06:39. | :06:42.
they are going to make the play-offs and qualify for Russia 2018. Let's | :06:43. | :06:47.
get reaction from that game at Hampden Park last night. It is a | :06:48. | :06:52.
huge moment for the team. The questions around this centre on | :06:53. | :07:00.
character, they centre on the ability to withstand events that go | :07:01. | :07:07.
against you. Yes, that is what we have got to show. We have got to be | :07:08. | :07:11.
a team that is never beaten. I have seen Scotland's best ever free kick | :07:12. | :07:19.
and second best ever free kick. And then to have a noise after that, I | :07:20. | :07:22.
have never heard anything like that before. I looked at the players and | :07:23. | :07:29.
I think it is unfair that they have got to keep coming back and taking | :07:30. | :07:32.
knocks like that but they turn up and they do it. You can see his | :07:33. | :07:38.
frustration when Harry Kane equalisers. If you look at Scotland | :07:39. | :07:41.
first of their position in the table, because of what happened with | :07:42. | :07:45.
Slovakia and Slovenia, it will be a real struggle. We needed to win that | :07:46. | :07:48.
game to have any chance of making it to the World Cup and it doesn't look | :07:49. | :07:52.
like it will happen, for me. They can take credit and positives from | :07:53. | :07:56.
that game. Give it a good go. Griffiths had a couple of decent | :07:57. | :07:59.
opportunities and he kept going like good strikers should do. He got his | :08:00. | :08:11.
reward at the end with two superb free kick. There is a lot of talk | :08:12. | :08:15.
about Joe Hart but a very well executed free kick, especially the | :08:16. | :08:17.
second one. The first one, big area to hit and Joe Hart was nowhere near | :08:18. | :08:21.
him. For the blame to be put on Joe Hart, we need to look at why the | :08:22. | :08:24.
fouls were given away in the first place. Whether you think Joe Hart | :08:25. | :08:27.
was to blame or not, it puts Gareth Southgate in a difficult position | :08:28. | :08:29.
ahead of the fans game, the friendly on Tuesday night. You want to look | :08:30. | :08:32.
at other players in a friendly and leaving Joe Hart out and bringing | :08:33. | :08:36.
Jack Butland in, are you dropping Joe Hart? I think the decision was | :08:37. | :08:42.
already made. Joe Hart was never going to play both games. People | :08:43. | :08:49.
have questioned Gareth. Is he sharp enough to make those decisions, | :08:50. | :08:52.
brave enough? He dropped Wayne Rooney instantly when he came into | :08:53. | :08:54.
the job which was a massive decision. He will have already made | :08:55. | :08:59.
his mind up that Jack Butland is going to play, I assume. There is no | :09:00. | :09:03.
need for Joe Hart to play in that game. If Joe Hart had saved those | :09:04. | :09:10.
two free kicks, they would have been world-class saves. Really good free | :09:11. | :09:15.
kicks and they went in. Here and I scored one against Russia. They | :09:16. | :09:18.
would have been world-class saves if he had saved them? I think so. If he | :09:19. | :09:22.
had got across. If you gets a hand to it, it still might go in. They | :09:23. | :09:27.
are not in the top corner but here in the top corner but Keren Dyer | :09:28. | :09:29.
scored against Russia in the Euros and we said it was a brilliant the | :09:30. | :09:37.
corner. Gareth Bale scored a couple and we are lauding them for | :09:38. | :09:39.
brilliant free kick that when one goes against us, we think it is the | :09:40. | :09:45.
keeper's fault. Gareth Bale got a very good one in the Euros. He did, | :09:46. | :09:51.
but we say it is a great strike, great free kick. If Joe Hart saves | :09:52. | :09:56.
both of those, they are world-class saves. Arguably the best result of | :09:57. | :09:59.
the night had got lost in the discussion of England and Scotland. | :10:00. | :10:03.
It is Northern Ireland against Azerbaijan, in sweltering | :10:04. | :10:06.
conditions. Stuart Dallas with the goal in injury time. On Radio 5 Live | :10:07. | :10:12.
they described it as smash and grab that it still got them three points! | :10:13. | :10:23.
They are just behind Germany in that group on goal difference. If they | :10:24. | :10:27.
hold on to second, they are in the play-offs. A massive game against | :10:28. | :10:30.
the Czech Republic. That will be crucial. You don't expect them to be | :10:31. | :10:34.
Germany but you do expect them to beat the other sides. That game | :10:35. | :10:40.
against Czech Republic is massive. O'Neill has done a superb job with | :10:41. | :10:45.
those players. And you can hear the Wales game away to Serbia with | :10:46. | :10:47.
Gareth Bale suspended and out of that game on Sports Extra. Plenty of | :10:48. | :10:56.
other sport coming your way on the BBC: | :10:57. | :11:15.
Now back to South Korea. The second half is on the way. England are one | :11:16. | :11:23.
goal to the good against Venezuela. Here is Guy Mowbray. Danny is on his | :11:24. | :11:27.
way. Thank you. I look forward to seeing | :11:28. | :11:31.
him and I look forward to seeing of Paul Simpson's side can complete the | :11:32. | :11:35.
job in the next 45 minutes. England get the second half started. Just | :11:36. | :11:41.
the position they would have wanted to be in. The first England youth | :11:42. | :11:51.
side to call themselves world champions perhaps. It is to be | :11:52. | :11:58.
called The World Series Championships. Nicky Butt, Alan | :11:59. | :12:08.
Thompson, Steve Watson, David Unsworth, they won in the 90s and | :12:09. | :12:15.
also in 1981 in Australia with the likes of Paul Alan, Kingsley, Danny | :12:16. | :12:23.
Wallace. John Cook has been Sunderland's kit man for many years. | :12:24. | :12:30.
The first yellow card of this year's under 20 World Cup final now. And it | :12:31. | :12:42.
is Williams Velasquez for jumping into Calvert-Lewin. The | :12:43. | :12:45.
centre-back's third caution of the competition. He missed the semifinal | :12:46. | :12:46.
through suspension. He knows that is going well wide | :12:47. | :13:13.
from Calvert-Lewin. A player who this time last year was getting | :13:14. | :13:19.
ready for the summer as a young Sheffield United hopeful. A couple | :13:20. | :13:22.
of months after that he was on his way to Everton. 11 Premier League | :13:23. | :13:24.
appearances have followed. Solanke is soon to be on his way to | :13:25. | :13:39.
Liverpool from Chelsea with the hope of getting more game time on | :13:40. | :13:40.
Merseyside. Freddie Woodman, out and out. -- up | :13:41. | :13:49.
and out. Penaranda just clipped. The first | :13:50. | :14:16.
England yellow card is dished out now for Tomori, who has got it. And | :14:17. | :14:27.
this replay shows us why. Danny Mills ankle tapped! Sorry, late to | :14:28. | :14:33.
join you, there was a queue at passport control. Good flight? | :14:34. | :14:38.
Perfect. Collected by Solanke. This is | :14:39. | :15:06.
Calvert-Lewin. Ferraresi is all over him. He wanted the free kick. Ball | :15:07. | :15:12.
in instead and Dowell couldn't go for it and just too high for so | :15:13. | :15:16.
lanky. England have started the second half in the same vein. -- | :15:17. | :15:24.
just too high for Solanke. It is really important to come out and | :15:25. | :15:28.
play in the same style. Not to sit back and decide to just protect the | :15:29. | :15:34.
lead. If we get a clean sheet, we win the World Cup. Ultimately you | :15:35. | :15:37.
want them to play with the same verve as the first half. Be | :15:38. | :15:42.
positive, on the front foot, making the most of every opportunity that | :15:43. | :15:49.
they have. The Venezuela free kick will have to move a couple of yards. | :15:50. | :15:53.
They can't shoot from here. Even him. I say that! On the edge of the | :15:54. | :16:03.
centre circle in the first half. The delivery again. It caused a problem. | :16:04. | :16:13.
It resulted in an effort on target that was saved by Freddie Woodman. | :16:14. | :16:18.
Really good delivery, pace and power. Always difficult to score | :16:19. | :16:26.
from beyond 13 yards with a header. Quite comfortable for Freddie | :16:27. | :16:28.
Woodman, just dropping into his hands. Herrera's header, the | :16:29. | :16:35.
Manchester City man. He has played five times for New York City in the | :16:36. | :16:41.
MLS, having joined Manchester at the end of January. He scored against | :16:42. | :16:51.
Crewe at the end of April. Very nicely done up to a point by Tomori. | :16:52. | :16:59.
Penaranda, then Lewis Cook got back on board. Brilliant tackle. | :17:00. | :17:04.
Brilliant tackle from Lewis Cook. Great work from the industrious | :17:05. | :17:11.
Pena. That is a fierce shot but it will never trouble Freddie Woodman. | :17:12. | :17:17.
We are seeing U20s football. And again it is brilliant to see players | :17:18. | :17:22.
with confidence, playing with no fear, trying to take a chance. There | :17:23. | :17:27.
have been far too many long shots. They need to get a bit closer to | :17:28. | :17:30.
goal to really trouble the goalkeeper. Ronaldo Chacon's long | :17:31. | :17:38.
shot is the last of the game for him. And this is a really | :17:39. | :17:41.
interesting player, Yeferson Soteldo. He has a knee injury, which | :17:42. | :17:47.
is why he didn't start. Only five tall but considered to be the most | :17:48. | :17:50.
all-round talented player in the Venezuela squad. He has already got | :17:51. | :18:03.
himself a nickname, Manzanita, the little apple. | :18:04. | :18:11.
Onomah dispossessed, he never really had it. And Soteldo has its first | :18:12. | :18:19.
involvement. Great from Freddie Woodman. He is at the feet of | :18:20. | :18:28.
Cordova. Excellent play from both sets of players. The substitute that | :18:29. | :18:32.
has just come on was just magnificent. Bright, sharp, | :18:33. | :18:37.
excellent through ball. Freddie Woodman was equal to that and he | :18:38. | :18:41.
came out and blocked the shot. Really good goalkeeping. And right | :18:42. | :18:48.
on cue, Yeferson Soteldo shows us his talents. He may be diminutive in | :18:49. | :18:55.
stature, but the way he got on the ball, the sharpness, the brightness, | :18:56. | :18:59.
the speed of ten, the speed of thought, and the most perfectly | :19:00. | :19:02.
weighted ball through. Absolutely exceptional. We always make that | :19:03. | :19:07.
excuse for senior players who have just come on, that they need time to | :19:08. | :19:11.
get into the game. He was in June from the first second. -- in tune | :19:12. | :19:17.
from the first second. Penaranda loses out to Onomah. | :19:18. | :19:32.
Really second half. -- really lively second half. | :19:33. | :19:40.
Look and took a post but not enough to constitute a foul. Penaranda, on | :19:41. | :19:51.
the move. It looks as though the threat level to invent's backline | :19:52. | :19:56.
has increased. Definitely with Soteldo coming on. He might be very | :19:57. | :20:01.
small but he is bright and sharp. On the ball again. Just behind Cordova. | :20:02. | :20:05.
Over the top by Lewis Cook. Just calling for the rest of his | :20:06. | :20:09.
team-mates to up their game is a little bit. That is an outstanding | :20:10. | :20:15.
pass through to his colleague. His touch may just let him down. That | :20:16. | :20:21.
hesitating moment allows Freddie Woodman to come out and block the | :20:22. | :20:27.
shot with his legs. Soteldo has only been on the pitch for three minutes. | :20:28. | :20:43.
Outstanding. Venezuela corner. Lucena takes it. Herrera is free! | :20:44. | :20:47.
Freddie Woodman saves again. England's lead at the moment looks | :20:48. | :20:52.
very slim. Fortunate for Freddie Woodman that this is not right in | :20:53. | :20:56.
the corner. Again it is a header from 12 yards out. Difficult to get | :20:57. | :21:02.
enough power from that sort of range to really trouble the goalkeeper. | :21:03. | :21:08.
Another yard to his right hand side and you might have seen the | :21:09. | :21:14.
goalkeeper struggling. The game is going to open up. We are just | :21:15. | :21:19.
approaching 55 minutes. Venezuela are starting to push for the | :21:20. | :21:24.
equaliser. Hopefully that might create a couple more opportunities | :21:25. | :21:28.
for England. Onomah wins the ball for England and set himself up to | :21:29. | :21:37.
shoot. A brilliant effort! Farinez absolutely standard. GDS? Or not? I | :21:38. | :21:51.
don't think we have it, do we? Very close. Absolutely brilliant strike. | :21:52. | :22:00.
Right on the line. I don't know if they can use a video assistant | :22:01. | :22:04.
referee in these situations, whether it is needed is they didn't think it | :22:05. | :22:11.
was, but a brilliant strike. It is opening up. Soteldo is one of the | :22:12. | :22:17.
main reasons for that and he breezes past Clarke-Salter. Another one | :22:18. | :22:27.
fired in and blocked by Tomori. The game is really starting to open up. | :22:28. | :22:30.
That substitute has made such a difference. The whole Venezuela team | :22:31. | :22:38.
has been given a massive lift. Look how close Onomah was. I know what | :22:39. | :22:43.
you are thinking at home, England, World Cup final, off the bar and off | :22:44. | :22:50.
the line. Not this time. Penaranda. There is no Russian linesman. That | :22:51. | :22:51.
is the problem! Penaranda looks to the heavens in | :22:52. | :23:09.
frustration. He is the little man who is making a huge difference. 19 | :23:10. | :23:18.
years old, Soteldo, and he has played for the senior side four | :23:19. | :23:21.
times already. I don't think Venezuela give caps. He scored three | :23:22. | :23:26.
goals at the South America youth championships at the start of this | :23:27. | :23:28.
year. Venezuela finished third in that. They noticed how well they | :23:29. | :23:36.
were going to do here. He looks a bit like Shakira. Short, stocky, | :23:37. | :23:48.
quicker and fitter. Kieran Dowell holding onto the shirt of Jose | :23:49. | :23:54.
Hernandez there. England need the likes of Lewis Cook, Onomah, to get | :23:55. | :23:58.
a grip of the game in midfield. Just wrestle back control of the ball. | :23:59. | :24:03.
Just have a ten minute spell where they can dominate possession and | :24:04. | :24:07.
calm things down. It has got frantic in the last five minutes. | :24:08. | :24:20.
Seeing what they can do with a free kick. Another good one and Kieran | :24:21. | :24:29.
Dowell headed it over his own crossbar. Did he? Over the top for a | :24:30. | :24:40.
goal kick. See the shot again. The goalkeeper like a statue. Absolutely | :24:41. | :24:44.
stranded. He can do nothing about it. Very unlucky. Not close enough | :24:45. | :25:03.
maybe for a virtual replay. Onomah is not having bad luck, this is a | :25:04. | :25:06.
World Cup final, but not on the right side of fortune in this | :25:07. | :25:10.
tournament. He was sent off against Mexico incredibly harshly. And he | :25:11. | :25:16.
had a free kick goal against him here. But that is a very good | :25:17. | :25:22.
learning curve as well. To realise that this level, international | :25:23. | :25:25.
football, some of these players have been playing lower down the leagues | :25:26. | :25:28.
perhaps, maybe getting away with things a bit more in their club | :25:29. | :25:33.
football. International football is refereed very differently. Some | :25:34. | :25:41.
challenges get punished. That is a great learning experience. Looping | :25:42. | :25:51.
up towards Calvert-Lewin. Herrera keeps it. We have four options and | :25:52. | :25:58.
he didn't get it right. Lewis Cook with the lift. Calvert-Lewin... | :25:59. | :26:04.
Calvert-Lewin does really well. And he wins the corner. | :26:05. | :26:17.
Again, positive. Taking people on. The defender slips. He gets a little | :26:18. | :26:25.
bit fortunate. The defender is diving in because he knows this is a | :26:26. | :26:28.
huge threat and he knows that Calvert-Lewin wants to go in behind | :26:29. | :26:30.
him. Swung over. Very nearly very good | :26:31. | :26:46.
luck for Solanke. Away goes such Aldo. -- away goes Soteldo. How | :26:47. | :26:54.
quick is he? Looking to the right. Looking to do it all himself! Swung | :26:55. | :26:59.
in for Penaranda to keep the attack moving. Penaranda will always go for | :27:00. | :27:08.
goal and look at Soteldo's reaction. Wrong decision in the end. Far too | :27:09. | :27:14.
selfish. He should have played it into the six yard box. Difficult | :27:15. | :27:18.
angle. A couple of defenders in front of him. His colleagues | :27:19. | :27:22.
frustrated with him on that occasion. He knew it, didn't he? As | :27:23. | :27:28.
soon as he struck it he was looking into the middle for the reaction. It | :27:29. | :27:32.
has either got to go in or colleagues will be shaking their | :27:33. | :27:37.
heads and pointing fingers. But this little fellow who has come on, | :27:38. | :27:41.
Soteldo, he looks absolutely outstanding. Incredibly bright and | :27:42. | :27:42.
sharp. The England change that we were | :27:43. | :27:55.
expecting has happened a few minutes later than it did in the semifinal | :27:56. | :27:58.
against Italy but it really made a difference then. No disservice to | :27:59. | :28:03.
Kieran Dowell, who has done everything simply, succinctly, | :28:04. | :28:06.
throughout the game, but the yellow card he got might have played a | :28:07. | :28:11.
part. And Ojo of Liverpool comes on to MIDI rival. Ojo was the creator | :28:12. | :28:18.
from the right wing of the first two goals that the side scored against | :28:19. | :28:25.
Italy last time out. Just a little bit more attack minded than Kieran | :28:26. | :28:28.
Dowell with his wing play, perhaps. Onomah, pulled at by Penaranda. The | :28:29. | :28:44.
decision by the referee. He tried to allow the advantage. Onomah like he | :28:45. | :28:49.
was in the first half, strong and powerful, holding players. | :28:50. | :28:56.
Kenny with the free kick. Solanke, and Ferraresi gets it away. Back to | :28:57. | :29:17.
Farinez. Looking for Cordova to get on the end of that. Clarke-Salter's | :29:18. | :29:22.
header away. Walker-Peters pushed to the floor | :29:23. | :29:32.
just outside the area. Just squeezed his way in between the | :29:33. | :29:52.
two defenders and gets blocked out. A simple decision for the referee. | :29:53. | :29:58.
This is a difficult position. Do you shoot from here, the corner of the | :29:59. | :30:03.
18-yard box? It is almost too close to try and cross it with any real | :30:04. | :30:10.
quality. It is one of those where you have just got to wickets towards | :30:11. | :30:13.
the far post and if someone gets a touch, it go in. -- you have just | :30:14. | :30:23.
got to whip it towards the far post and if someone gets a touch, it | :30:24. | :30:30.
might go in. Lookman has gone for goal and he didn't get it across to | :30:31. | :30:34.
the far post. He went for the near post in the end, much harder | :30:35. | :30:39.
technically to try and execute. You need more lift over the top of the | :30:40. | :30:43.
wall. It gets plenty of power but it never really troubles the | :30:44. | :30:48.
goalkeeper. A decent look at the West Brom flag behind the goal which | :30:49. | :30:53.
has been a permanent fixture at the England games so far courtesy of the | :30:54. | :30:54.
kit man. I thought we were going to have deja | :30:55. | :31:06.
vu there, Tomori has already put on past his own keeper this tournament, | :31:07. | :31:11.
I thought there was going to be another one! Good hands from Freddie | :31:12. | :31:17.
Woodman! I was just going to name check the kit man, Pat Frost on West | :31:18. | :31:21.
Bromwich Albion. He puts that flag up everywhere. | :31:22. | :31:26.
The support staff behind the scenes, the medical staff and the kit man, | :31:27. | :31:38.
are vital. I had a message from the doctor with a team who says they are | :31:39. | :31:42.
an outstanding bunch of young men, which is a really good to hear. I | :31:43. | :31:48.
think this is the whole point of St George's Park, this is what the FA | :31:49. | :31:54.
has tried to create, a new philosophy and a new mentality of | :31:55. | :31:57.
what playing for England is all about. It has started to come to | :31:58. | :32:04.
fruition. They have 25 minutes plus a bit more to hang on, or to make | :32:05. | :32:09.
things even better in the U20 World Cup final. There seems to be more of | :32:10. | :32:17.
the game now that Soteldo is on. Of course I am biased and I want | :32:18. | :32:21.
England to win, but I want to see Soteldo on the ball, I want to see | :32:22. | :32:25.
what he can do. He just gets you off your feet and excites you. | :32:26. | :32:44.
Soteldo gave it away that time. Look at the pace of Ojo, breezing past | :32:45. | :33:02.
Lucena. Try that again, Lucena was not having it so easily, but it will | :33:03. | :33:07.
be corner for England. Good defending from Lucena, I think he | :33:08. | :33:12.
was surprised by the pace of Ojo, having just come on, he was not | :33:13. | :33:17.
prepared for that. Doggett, determined defending. -- dogged, | :33:18. | :33:23.
determined. Went to the hangings want towards | :33:24. | :33:44.
Clarke-Salter. Fish went to the hanging one. I hope the likes of | :33:45. | :33:49.
Lewis Cook end up playing more football next season. He was Leeds | :33:50. | :33:55.
young Player of the Year the season before last, before he got his move | :33:56. | :34:00.
to Bournemouth. His opportunities this season have been a little bit | :34:01. | :34:05.
stifled. He is a quality player with experience who needs to play week | :34:06. | :34:10.
in, week out. I am sure part of that has been down to injury. The York | :34:11. | :34:16.
born midfielder has looked a leader and a player in this tournament. | :34:17. | :34:26.
There are racy with some important Venezuela defending, but a nasty | :34:27. | :34:38.
clash of heads has resulted -- Nahuel Ferraresi with some important | :34:39. | :34:47.
Venezuela defending. There is blood. But ultimately he is running around | :34:48. | :34:51.
on the floor. He is not spark out cold. He just catches the back of | :34:52. | :34:58.
the defender's head, it happens from time and time. The fact he is | :34:59. | :35:02.
rolling around is a good sign that he has not been sparked out | :35:03. | :35:09.
unconscious. The aforementioned Doctor's services are required. | :35:10. | :35:22.
Dominic Solanke get the applause of all as he gets back to an upright | :35:23. | :35:31.
position at least. England supporters not quite in full | :35:32. | :35:35.
celebratory move yet, Freddie Woodman has been tested in the | :35:36. | :35:39.
second half. They seem to be in much more of a game than in the first | :35:40. | :35:43.
half, but even then it was never clear cut and away. I know you are | :35:44. | :35:48.
shaking your head. It is unnecessary, it is a good game. The | :35:49. | :35:52.
wave only comes when it is a poor game to watch, this is not one of | :35:53. | :36:01.
those games! The good folk of the South Korean | :36:02. | :36:07.
town formed the bulk of the crowd. We saw some good games in the World | :36:08. | :36:11.
Cup in 2002, an average of five goals per game in the stadium. | :36:12. | :36:17.
Kevin Kilbane list from the penalty spot in the Spanish win against | :36:18. | :36:23.
Ireland. There seems to be an argument about | :36:24. | :36:26.
whether it is a corner or goal kick. There seems to be hesitation or | :36:27. | :36:33.
around in the award of it. It will be an England corner. | :36:34. | :36:43.
Ojo asked a little bit too much of himself. Goal kick. | :36:44. | :36:51.
Another consideration for the FA, looking at players like Ojo and | :36:52. | :36:57.
Tomori. Ademola Lookman, five players in this England squad could | :36:58. | :37:01.
choose at senior level to play for Nigeria. Again, I will be very | :37:02. | :37:08.
biased, but if you have the opportunity to play for England, | :37:09. | :37:12.
you've got to take it up. Who calls first could be the factor. You are | :37:13. | :37:18.
not tied playing in competitive U20 football. But the quality of | :37:19. | :37:27.
England, for me, far outweighs the chances you will have the Nigeria. | :37:28. | :37:32.
OK, you might go to the African Cup of Nations and get a medal. You | :37:33. | :37:36.
might win more stuff. But in terms of the competitions that really | :37:37. | :37:40.
matter on the world stage, the Europeans, the World Cup, England | :37:41. | :37:45.
would be your first port of call. Of course I will be by your stomach. | :37:46. | :37:49.
There might be parental pressure, too. | :37:50. | :37:55.
Sergio Cordova is off, the second Venezuela change. In his place is | :37:56. | :38:04.
Samuel Sosa, a famous sporting name. It is not the former baseball star. | :38:05. | :38:12.
Gianni Infantino, the head man at Fifa, is checking his team sheet. I | :38:13. | :38:17.
am not sure he was behind him, but there was no need for that yawn | :38:18. | :38:26.
excavation mug of a Sosa rescued Venezuela to make it 1-1 against | :38:27. | :38:35.
Uruguay. Venezuela penalty subsequently followed. Mr Infantino | :38:36. | :38:39.
is fully engaged. The referee gives a penalty of the | :38:40. | :38:53.
Venezuela, Adalberto Penaranda went down. England are calling for the | :38:54. | :38:57.
video assistant referee to be brought into use, they think the | :38:58. | :39:03.
referee has this wrong. Instantly the referee acknowledges that he | :39:04. | :39:09.
will go to the television replay. This is where it could be very, very | :39:10. | :39:16.
useful and spot-on. He has to make the decision, the referee has to | :39:17. | :39:20.
make the decision to allow the video assistant referee to get involved. | :39:21. | :39:25.
He makes the decision, now they can review it. Very good refereeing. | :39:26. | :39:34.
Freddie Woodman has just been told by the man in charge that he will | :39:35. | :39:44.
get notification from the VAR team, fully fledged and establish referees | :39:45. | :39:48.
themselves. The argument is that there was no contact, but there is, | :39:49. | :39:54.
I think it will be a penalty. Yes, I think it is knee on penalty. Really | :39:55. | :40:02.
good use of technology, exactly right. | :40:03. | :40:10.
Penaranda for Venezuelan, kept out by Woodman! In again, cleared by | :40:11. | :40:19.
Tomori. Freddie Woodman is England's Hiro. What a magnificent save. At | :40:20. | :40:24.
1.I thought he had gone the wrong way and it would be a simple | :40:25. | :40:32.
penalty, just to roll it in. But somehow manages to get an arm out | :40:33. | :40:39.
and save fat, incredible save. -- manages to get an arm out and save | :40:40. | :40:41.
that. Ojo held off Lucena, free kick for | :40:42. | :40:56.
Venezuela. But Venezuela mess up their golden opportunity to draw | :40:57. | :41:00.
level. The golden boy, Adalberto Penaranda, could not score from the | :41:01. | :41:06.
spot. Trying to bring in Soteldo. Ojo is down, a little push from | :41:07. | :41:08.
Hernandez. I think Ojo was stood on in that | :41:09. | :41:23.
challenge. Penaranda will be gutted, but what a save from Freddie | :41:24. | :41:28.
Woodman. I am sure we will see it again in a few moments. He almost | :41:29. | :41:37.
dived out of the way, it was straight down the middle but he got | :41:38. | :41:41.
a hand up and it is a really strong hand that he got on it to push the | :41:42. | :41:49.
ball away. Before that, a perfect example of the video assistant | :41:50. | :41:53.
referee, how it should be used. The referee made the decision coming he | :41:54. | :41:57.
was clear in his mind that it was a penalty. He has to give the decision | :41:58. | :42:03.
so that it can be referred, it just confirmed that he was right. If he | :42:04. | :42:08.
had not made the decision, it was a penalty, of course, you can't go | :42:09. | :42:11.
back to the video assistant referee. Solanke is patched up and back on | :42:12. | :42:19.
the field, plenty of Greece. Some butterfly stitches and maybe a | :42:20. | :42:24.
staple committee will be great. Maitland-Niles has come on to | :42:25. | :42:30.
replace Lookman. He is another with plenty of experience from his loan | :42:31. | :42:34.
spell at Ipswich the season before last. He has been on the fringe of | :42:35. | :42:38.
the Arsenal team, Arsene Wenger has announced he will be in the | :42:39. | :42:44.
first-team squad next season. Quick to make that announcement. | :42:45. | :42:55.
Watching England, it will not be cut and dry for some time. Equally, this | :42:56. | :43:04.
is a world final, two of the best teams in their age category in the | :43:05. | :43:06.
world. Solanke almost tricked his way past | :43:07. | :43:33.
Velazquez. England have to be careful not to be pressed back and | :43:34. | :43:37.
start sitting too deep in this last 13 minutes or so. With the penalty I | :43:38. | :43:44.
thought it was deja vu, in the last 16 against Costa Rica Freddie | :43:45. | :43:47.
Woodman saved a late penalty but the rebound was put in, it looked like | :43:48. | :43:52.
it would happen again. It was a really strong hands that he got out | :43:53. | :43:58.
too late. The left hand as he dived away, just able to push it far | :43:59. | :44:03.
enough away. Penaranda could not get the angle to squeeze in the rebound. | :44:04. | :44:13.
Herrera got within range. But Venezuela have a deeper range than | :44:14. | :44:26.
most teams, it seems. Simpson is a little more animated down there now. | :44:27. | :44:35.
This is a real crucial learning time for these young players. They are | :44:36. | :44:40.
under a little bit of pressure, 1-0 up, Venezuela will push and push and | :44:41. | :44:45.
push. They will try to really bombard the England goal. How do | :44:46. | :44:50.
they deal with it? This is about to gain management. What a fantastic | :44:51. | :44:54.
opportunity for these players to learn. -- this is about game | :44:55. | :45:03.
management. That was awkward for Solanke, | :45:04. | :45:13.
Maitland-Niles came in to help. A thrilling ending to the U20 World | :45:14. | :45:29.
Cup final. P was teed up for something | :45:30. | :45:49.
glorious. -- Pena was teed up. Here is the penalty. That is a really | :45:50. | :45:57.
strong hand. Does incredibly well. Effectively going the wrong way, | :45:58. | :46:01.
gets his hand up. He does not just stop it, he has enough power and | :46:02. | :46:07.
strength to push it away to safety. Freddie Woodman, son of Andy Woodman | :46:08. | :46:12.
and God so loved the England manager Gareth Southgate. -- and Godson of | :46:13. | :46:24.
the England manager. I would have loved to have seen his dad's face as | :46:25. | :46:28.
he made that face, he would have been jumping for joy. Farinez is a | :46:29. | :46:34.
very good goalkeeper at the other end. Without doubt there are an | :46:35. | :46:49.
awful lot of good players on show. Hernandez felt he was unfairly | :46:50. | :46:53.
launch from his feet by Ojo, the referee did not. Cook wings tonne | :46:54. | :47:03.
wins England a throw in and, perhaps more importantly, a little bit of | :47:04. | :47:09.
time. -- Cook wins England throw in. They had to calm it down, slow down | :47:10. | :47:15.
the game, get control, getting a few passes, don't keep giving the ball | :47:16. | :47:20.
away and alarming Venezuela to attack, wave after wave. -- and | :47:21. | :47:25.
alarming Venezuela to attack. Maitland-Niles is that for England. | :47:26. | :47:46.
The drug back was maybe not what was required, but Pena worked hard to | :47:47. | :47:54.
keep it for Venezuela and get them a free kick. Take away the fact that | :47:55. | :47:57.
it is a World Cup final, there are not too many of these England | :47:58. | :48:02.
players that have been in this situation, 1-0 up, ten minutes to | :48:03. | :48:08.
go, and it really matters. U21, and 23 football, you concede a goal and | :48:09. | :48:13.
move onto the next one. They are very inexperienced at this level. | :48:14. | :48:22.
Whatever happens, and we hope they hold on, this is invaluable | :48:23. | :48:23.
experience. Lucena with a free kick. Penaranda Bob the football that his | :48:24. | :49:08.
feet. -- loathes the football at his feet. It has been brilliant to | :49:09. | :49:13.
watch, both players have had confidence, ability, no fear. They | :49:14. | :49:15.
have tried to showcase what they are good at. | :49:16. | :49:25.
Soteldo twisted himself inside out, in the end. | :49:26. | :49:46.
Did really well to hold off the defenders and get into a decent | :49:47. | :49:53.
position. He just got a bit overexcited. He should have just | :49:54. | :49:57.
slid in his team-mate down the right-hand side. | :49:58. | :50:02.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has that striker's build. He is the man whose | :50:03. | :50:12.
goal, as things stand, has won the U20 World Cup for England. But as | :50:13. | :50:16.
Danny pointed out earlier, if it stays like that, it is not senior | :50:17. | :50:21.
level, but it is a World Cup final, it is Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters | :50:22. | :50:27.
territory. U20s or not, no one else has managed to do it in that time! | :50:28. | :50:35.
We are not counting the scorers in the seniors event in Thailand last | :50:36. | :50:37.
night, 2-0 England. In from Lucena, just too high, or | :50:38. | :50:58.
maybe a racy -- Nahuel Ferraresi just mistimed his jump. | :50:59. | :51:06.
He is having to sit down for his own health, I think, Ross failed | :51:07. | :51:17.
Dudamel. -- Rafael Dudamel. His team is just a little bit longer than the | :51:18. | :51:23.
England team. -- little bit younger than. In terms of development for | :51:24. | :51:30.
both sides, whoever goes on to win and whoever loses, it has been a | :51:31. | :51:34.
really good performance from both teams. Hopefully we can see in this | :51:35. | :51:42.
group of players 22, 25, 26 players... There are some real stars | :51:43. | :51:47.
of the future. A little bit of fortune, but worked | :51:48. | :52:03.
through to Solanke. The Vantage played by the referee. -- add | :52:04. | :52:08.
Vantage played by the referee. A bold, straightening run brought to | :52:09. | :52:24.
an end by Onomah. Can England's young Lions show that | :52:25. | :53:02.
they have the wherewithal to see it out? | :53:03. | :53:09.
Free kick Venezuela. It went too early and they did not know how to | :53:10. | :53:24.
get back onside in time. Just over three minutes of the 90 to go, that | :53:25. | :53:30.
is how close England are. 12-macro England players starting to look a | :53:31. | :53:32.
little bit weary. Freddie Woodman will take as long as | :53:33. | :53:51.
he dares with the goal kick for England. These are U20 players, we | :53:52. | :53:59.
do not want the cynical old pro views yet! With two and a half | :54:00. | :54:05.
minutes to go, as the Scotland team last night, it is all about winning. | :54:06. | :54:08.
Yes, and they are almost there. Solanke and Velazquez both hit the | :54:09. | :54:25.
deck. It will be a corner, that will suit England fine. This is not about | :54:26. | :54:30.
being cynical, it is just keeping the ball in the corner. Game | :54:31. | :54:35.
management, learn your trade, be professional. See the game out. Not | :54:36. | :54:39.
too many of these players have been in this type of situation before. | :54:40. | :54:44.
World Cup or not, it is a competitive game that actually means | :54:45. | :54:49.
something. It means everything for this group of players, some have for | :54:50. | :54:55.
whom -- some of whom have been together since the under 15 IS. They | :54:56. | :55:00.
are just a couple of minutes away from being world champions at the | :55:01. | :55:05.
U20 level. What a job Paul Simpson has done of organising them, getting | :55:06. | :55:10.
them just right, getting them tournament ready. | :55:11. | :55:40.
Penaranda shaped as if to shoot but that was not ready for the return | :55:41. | :55:47.
pass. Venezuela will understandably do everything as quickly as they can | :55:48. | :55:48.
now. Onomah with a really good tackle to | :55:49. | :55:59.
win the ball, Calvert-Lewin trying to get a full stride. An excellent | :56:00. | :56:05.
challenge, Lucena with some superb midfield play. | :56:06. | :56:12.
A frantic finale to the U20 cup final. A big deflection, Woodman had | :56:13. | :56:20.
to make absolutely sure it went wide. England have a corner to | :56:21. | :56:24.
defend. The game moves into added time. Four | :56:25. | :56:33.
minutes. Farinez, the Venezuelan goalkeeper, | :56:34. | :56:54.
has moved forward. You might get a shot on goal! Farinez goes on! You | :56:55. | :57:02.
used to play as a striker but he did not strike that particularly | :57:03. | :57:06.
cleanly. He has scored a penalty at this level against Vanuatu is | :57:07. | :57:09.
Venezuela put seven pass them in the group stage quite a few games ago. | :57:10. | :57:18.
That was so awkward from Jake Clarke-Salter, got his feet in a | :57:19. | :57:22.
mess. I think it was going wide anyway but Woodman had to make sure. | :57:23. | :57:28.
I know there will be plenty of you watching the clock in the top left | :57:29. | :57:31.
as much as you are watching what the ball is doing. One minute of four | :57:32. | :57:41.
gone. Free kick to Venezuela. Ojo's foul. | :57:42. | :57:57.
Soteldo seems to get in a mix-up in terms of communication with Herrera. | :57:58. | :58:06.
Maitland-Niles back to his feet impressively. He tried to beat | :58:07. | :58:15.
Farinez. Farinez in a real hurry to get it down the other end again. | :58:16. | :58:21.
Calvert-Lewin is having a go now. Maybe not the wisest course of | :58:22. | :58:25.
action for England. If they keep the ball, they win the World Cup. | :58:26. | :58:34.
Out came Woodman, to have it and to hold it. He was caught by Pena, it | :58:35. | :58:42.
might have been his own team-mate, Tomori, who clattered into him. Free | :58:43. | :58:46.
kick for England which has just upset some of the Venezuelan | :58:47. | :58:51.
supporters in the crowd. This is not a tactic, Freddie Woodman is | :58:52. | :58:58.
genuinely hurt. It is Tomori who made contact with him, as Woodman | :58:59. | :59:04.
made sure he had the ball safely in his clutches. This time will be | :59:05. | :59:05.
added on. If you have not been with us to | :59:06. | :59:16.
capture the whole drama of the U20 World Cup final, England took the | :59:17. | :59:20.
lead in the 35th minute through Everton forward Dominic | :59:21. | :59:26.
Calvert-Lewin. In the second half, Venezuela have hits back with a | :59:27. | :59:32.
little bit more. The player on the books of Watford, Adalberto | :59:33. | :59:35.
Penaranda, he has just been replaced. He had the chance to | :59:36. | :59:39.
level, his penalty brilliantly saved by the strong left hand of Woodman. | :59:40. | :59:51.
On four Venezuela has come Jan Carlos Hurtado, who was only 17 in | :59:52. | :00:00.
early March. Farinez was trying to join in when he went forward for a | :00:01. | :00:03.
corner a few minutes ago. He normally hits them a lot better than | :00:04. | :00:05.
that. Freddie Woodman will grab the | :00:06. | :00:18.
headlines. Farinez is generally considered to be the keeper of the | :00:19. | :00:21.
tournament but Freddie Woodman might have stolen that accolade today. | :00:22. | :00:25.
Never mind the fact that it says four, I think we will be going into | :00:26. | :00:29.
six minutes of injury time in with at least a two minute delay here. It | :00:30. | :00:40.
is as you were for England. A couple of minutes away from becoming under | :00:41. | :00:41.
20 world champions. Paul Simpson was born on the 26th of | :00:42. | :00:57.
July, 1966, the head coach for England, four days before you know | :00:58. | :00:58.
what. Freddie Woodman up and away. Solanke | :00:59. | :01:18.
onto it. He will keep it in the corner for as long as they possibly | :01:19. | :01:19.
can. Under pressure from Velasquez. The ball did just clipped off Jose | :01:20. | :01:36.
Hernandez, hence the England corner. You can see the time has been | :01:37. | :01:42.
adjusted to say six minutes added on and it initially said four. | :01:43. | :01:50.
Calvert-Lewin. Just a minute or so away from being the man who got the | :01:51. | :01:57.
goal that won it. Herrera. Maybe one last Venezuela chants. Samuel Sosa | :01:58. | :02:07.
goes on. Super tracking for Maitland-Niles. They come forward | :02:08. | :02:15.
again. This is just about it. Ronaldo Lucena's Seppi delivery has | :02:16. | :02:32.
been superb throughout the tournament. -- set piece delivery. | :02:33. | :02:39.
In comes another one. Herrera tried to bring it down. Farinez is beaten | :02:40. | :02:46.
and Venezuela RB10 and England have won the U20s World Cup! -- Venezuela | :02:47. | :02:56.
is beaten. What an achievement for Paul Simpson and this group of | :02:57. | :03:02.
players. Calvert-Lewin's goal and Freddie Woodman's penalty save are | :03:03. | :03:10.
key moments in 2017. What building blocks might be in place now for | :03:11. | :03:16.
England's football future? Words of thanks are offered up. Celebrations | :03:17. | :03:22.
on the field that will continue all that long flight home. The journey | :03:23. | :03:30.
goes on for this group of players. Freddie Woodman is understandably | :03:31. | :03:33.
mobbed by his team-mates for the huge party has played not just today | :03:34. | :03:37.
but all tournament long. There are words of consolation for the | :03:38. | :03:41.
Venezuela players as well. Their achievement should not be | :03:42. | :03:43.
understated. They have been brilliant all the way through to the | :03:44. | :03:48.
final but the final has been won by England. It might not be a senior | :03:49. | :03:52.
World Cup but how good does this sound? Venezuela zero, England one, | :03:53. | :03:55.
and England are world champions! Good lads! The captain is with the | :03:56. | :04:12.
players at the moment. Dominic Calvert-Lewin got the winner. How | :04:13. | :04:15.
good is this, Trevor? So good. To win the World Cup at such a young | :04:16. | :04:21.
age, you look at the contrast in the emotions with the Venezuela players, | :04:22. | :04:25.
you can see how much it means. Brilliant from the players and the | :04:26. | :04:27.
England squad and I thought they played well and deserved to win. | :04:28. | :04:31.
They are getting ready for what I am told is one of the longest | :04:32. | :04:34.
presentation ceremonies ever invented. There is a golden boot, | :04:35. | :04:39.
silver boot and a bronze boot to award! The trophy presentation | :04:40. | :04:42.
itself could be in about 20 minutes, we are doing that on the red button | :04:43. | :04:47.
for you. We have the triathlon coming up from Leeds. That will be | :04:48. | :04:51.
on the red button when we come off air on BBC Two. As far as the bigger | :04:52. | :04:56.
picture is concerned, Danny Mills. I wouldn't mind more under 20 | :04:57. | :04:59.
internationals on Sunday mornings to talk about because that was great! | :05:00. | :05:05.
Brilliant game to watch. Both teams playing with confidence, with | :05:06. | :05:08.
expression, having a go, really wanting to win the game. Just a | :05:09. | :05:14.
really good game to watch. Chances, in the second half, Venezuela had to | :05:15. | :05:18.
try and get back into it. But what a great building block. And so much | :05:19. | :05:23.
spirit. You didn't see any rolling around, no acting, no wasting time. | :05:24. | :05:28.
I thought it was a brilliant performance from the players. They | :05:29. | :05:31.
really deserve a good pat on the back. Have a look at the penalty | :05:32. | :05:36.
incident. It was given by the referee and then confirmed by the | :05:37. | :05:46.
video assistant referee. Clarke-Salter with the challenge. | :05:47. | :05:49.
The referee gave it. And as you can see, he goes to the big screen. In | :05:50. | :05:54.
some ways it stops the arguing with the referee, surrounding him. In all | :05:55. | :06:00.
it took 38 seconds. I think that he has refereed this game exceptionally | :06:01. | :06:04.
well. With authority. He believes it is a penalty. He has got to blow the | :06:05. | :06:08.
whistle. And instantly he said he will check. He goes to the assistant | :06:09. | :06:15.
referee, look at the replay. It confirms it. It is a brilliant save | :06:16. | :06:21.
from Freddie Woodman. All his weight is the wrong way. He gets his left | :06:22. | :06:25.
arm out and it is a really strong hand. Not just to stop it but to put | :06:26. | :06:30.
it away to safety. Is it a contradiction to say that he went | :06:31. | :06:36.
the wrong way and have saved it? He is diving one way and the ball goes | :06:37. | :06:42.
the other. He almost dives past it. But to actually keep it out and push | :06:43. | :06:46.
it to a safe area where it can't be followed up and scored, brilliant. | :06:47. | :06:52.
Great core, really strong. He deserved it. He was top drawer | :06:53. | :06:57.
today. That is the goal-scorer, Calvert-Lewin. We can see the | :06:58. | :07:00.
winning goal of the game again. He missed the header, shot with a right | :07:01. | :07:05.
foot, rebound with a left foot. Great persistence. A simple | :07:06. | :07:10.
challenge but he has the wherewithal to go for a simple ball. Good from | :07:11. | :07:16.
the keeper but he has the composure to follow up his own shot. Great | :07:17. | :07:20.
composure. He tucked it into the corner. He deserves that for | :07:21. | :07:25.
persistence. The biggest thing for me, we all know these players are | :07:26. | :07:28.
very gifted and talented, with fantastic technique. The reason he | :07:29. | :07:33.
got himself into that situation was his bravery and physicality. And | :07:34. | :07:38.
going into a challenge where he could be heard. For that fact, he | :07:39. | :07:41.
will really appreciate what that part of the game means to him. He | :07:42. | :07:46.
has got a great physique and he did superb. They are going to friends | :07:47. | :07:51.
and family and maybe fans who are just there in South Korea as well. | :07:52. | :07:57.
But the England U20s have done their country proud. They have had a | :07:58. | :08:00.
fantastic tournament and they end it by winning it this Sunday morning. | :08:01. | :08:04.
You can see the heartbreak for Venezuela. It is the glory of | :08:05. | :08:10.
winning a World Cup, obviously. But the tournament would have been a | :08:11. | :08:14.
successful than anyhow, wouldn't it? Definitely. They are starting to | :08:15. | :08:19.
produce players. St George's Park is really starting to work. 17s, 18s, | :08:20. | :08:27.
19s and 21s producing good football. The tournament is on the red button. | :08:28. | :08:33.
We have the live triathlon coming up from Leeds on BBC Two. As far as | :08:34. | :08:36.
English football is concerned, the future is looking bright. | :08:37. | :08:43.
A Sunday morning bonus of watching an England team in a World Cup | :08:44. | :08:48.
final. Away we go. Freddie Woodman. He gets a shot away. What a strike | :08:49. | :08:53.
that was! It caught everybody out. A chance! And another one! And England | :08:54. | :08:58.
have taken the lead! A brilliant effort. The referee does give a | :08:59. | :09:07.
penalty for Venezuela. It is kept out by Freddie Woodman. And England | :09:08. | :09:10.
have won the U20s World | :09:11. | :09:11. |
