tournament. And talking about England, Sweden and, unfortunately,

Germany not performing well, the Netherlands were very impressing.

Spain are absolutely positive. But you also have got to play credit to

Spain, they played fantastic. It's just one round played so far so it's

going to be getting better. And what about the individuals who stood out

for you? A Spanish player yesterday. Everything that was positive for

Spain went through her. The way she was on the ball, the way that she

ran at players. She caused havoc. Also the French centre forward.

We've highlighted a lot of players. They haven't performed, whereas she

performed. She scored two goals last night and looked really threatening.

They have stood out for me. England's opening match against

Spain last night didn't exactly go the way that they or we hoped it

would. It turned out to be quite a gear. We were very nervous, I don't

know why. Sloppy today, all over the park. I don't think we've performed

the way we could have. COMMENTATOR: Spain and France, less than four

thought we'd settle in the second-half but didn't, we kept

energy sapping, so it's just trying Laura Bassett! We know we didn't

bitterly disappointed but we've sat down today as a team, we've been

honest, harsh and have analysed it well. It's a positive day which we

will move on from. Hope Powell said it was up to you players to lift

yourselves. Are you able to do that yourselves or has she had some kind

of input in that? No, we've definitely done it ourselves. We've

got together and had big discussions, sat down and watched

the game together. We've tried to take the positives out of the game

and turn the negatives into positives, so that come Monday, we

hit the ground running and give a much better performance. We know

there were so many injuries in the build-up to this tournament. You've

been out for a while yourselves, Steph Houghton has missed a few

weeks. Sophie Bradley got injured just before the tournament taught #

started, how much of an effect did not have on the back four? I don't

know, really. You've got to give credit to the Spanish. Boquete and

the number 21 playing behind were fantastic. You've got to give them

credit. Yes, we are coming back from injuries. I can make no excuses for

the first goal, I made the wrong decision. Injury or no injury, there

no excuses for it. It won't happen again. Playing with Laura Bassett,

it was new, but she's a great player and I thought she had a good game.

Spain, fantastic technically. They didn't run out of steam. Was that a

surprise to you, because was a surprise to us here? It was.

Normally when we played them in the past, we've gone two down at times

and we've always been able to come back. But they've raised their game.

Every team in Europe now was better than they were three years ago. They

kept coming at us. When we went 2-2, thought we'd take a bullet out of

this. Then it was disappointing to concede a goal in the 92nd minute.

But we need to move on from it. mum, Sandra, was the star of our

far too much last night. We saw plenty of that throughout the game.

When we watched Germany, they also did the same. The difference being

if England had a lot more experienced players. Why do you

think that was? I think all -- had already tried to copy the style

Germany does. It's hard to say, of course it's the first game of a

tournament and players are nervous, but normally you play the same style

all the time. They must have just forgotten about it and they need to

get on with the next game. Aluko scored the goal for England. Were

you surprised when she was a player brought off? I was. Timmy, she

looked really loudly. The first goal was a fantastic finish from her.

Every time she had the ball, I thought England could have done

something. For me, Karen Carney coming on was great. We wanted that

change. I also looked at maybe Duggan coming on, a young player,

lots of impact. You wanted a bit of youth. I was really surprised with

Aluko, because I thought she'd had a fantastic game up until that point.

You know all about Boquete, because she scored the goal that denied you

and Scotland a place in this tournament. How impressed have you

been with her as a player? We played her in two games in the play-off,

she is an incredibly influential player for Spain. The way she drives

it, drives the defenders with his skill and technique, I think it's

great. You see an England game, such a calm finish with composure. That

threatens defenders. She did that really well against England.

about how well we'd done and we were improving all the time. Obviously it

was disappointing but we want to keep improving and improving and get

Toni Duggan and Jordan Nobbs. What about Jordan Nobbs, what could she

bring? I think from the game last night, we need something fresh and

something new to come on. They beat a start in the next game. Definitely

Jordan Nobbs could bring this. I've played her week in week out. She's

got a lot of energy. To bring her in potentially to the field would be

great because I think they were missing that to link up to the

forward players. I hope Hope Powell will make a change. One game has

already been played in group eight competitive game. Two sides who are

great chance spurned by Denmark's leading scorer. That should have

the run of play, Italy take the lead! The flag is up and it won't

count. Italy's delightful turn to disappointment. But for the first

time in the game, they managed to get something forward. That's a very

tight decision. She got the run at the near post but Italy denied by

the assistant's flag. Considering Italy play Sweden in their final

game in the group, and the Danes face the Finns, it does appear that

the onus is on the Italian team to try and win this game.

Italy, getting closer, and Denmark are rattled. It was a terrific

volley. That's deserved a fly into the back of the net. The first half

Cabrini's team hits the front, and they deserve that for showing more

intent at the start of the second half. It was Bartoli with a

dangerous ball into the area. It was fired low. Italy, the team that

tonight? Yes, and to be honest, I was not surprised. We are used to

Sweden at packing. They were very creative going forward against

England. It is nice to see Jakobsson coming in all stopped she has scored

been put right in on the goalkeeper. They have cost so much trouble for

Finland. They do it so well there. It is the difficulty for the keeper

at the end. She is wondering if she should come or not. She cannot see.

She does well with the first save, a reaction save, but she cannot do

Exactly, that's what we did. We gave her such a build-up. She couldn't

perform under pressure against Denmark. However, tonight she did.

What Schelin is really good at is playing off the back shoulder. That

is what she did there. It was a fantastic ball initially through.

She looks up, her first touch is excellent, it sets on her way. What

a cool, calm finish, especially with the pressure in the press. They've

been particularly having a go at her. The shackles really came off

with the second goal from Schelin. We commented on that. You can see

that she seems to have that extra yard of pace, that extra confidence.

What a lovely glancing header. Thunebro, your former team-mate. A

really great performance. But I also want to mention the spectators,

they've been fantastic. Your team is scoring three goals and you really

perform well and you have a great atmosphere. That pushes you more

forward. You just enjoy playing the stadium. Lotta Schelin always has a

smile on her face, especially if she scores. It was a fantastic night for

everyone to enjoy. She was born about ten miles down the road from

there. Just what the home fans wanted to see was Schelin performing

like that. Definitely. The whole Sweden team pushed the whole game

up. Schelin did so many off the ball runs, a really unselfish player. She

had some great driving runs. She grew in confidence in the second

half. A lot of great touches and a lot of corners for Sweden. She's

running down the line, she's all over the front line. She takes up

the whole space, which is great for her team-mates because she creates

space for them. That is a cheeky flick. That showed the confidence

she had. After Nilla Fischer had scored those two goals, it seemed

that the Finns, they like to be a little bit physical, they have a

plan to stop her completing a hat-trick, didn't they? Absolutely.

We really don't want to save they were playing unfair, but you can

tell they wanted to do everything to stop her. This one looks really

nasty. You can discuss if the defender really wanted to attack the

ball. She's not even looking at it. They've tried everything to stop

Nilla Fischer. I personally thought that the manager had said to Saario,

you need to stop her, no matter how. She didn't get a chance after that.

That's when you get that physical, well, it was a bit of a head-butt,

but you get that physical pressure and you don't know if you want to go

for the next one. You called that straightaway. It looked like she had

been detailed to go straight into her. Fischer seemed to be able to

cope. We've all been talking Germany up before this tournament is winning

six in a row. But after seeing Sweden tonight, are you a little bit

nervous? Not at all. I'm just happy to see really great games now. We

knew we would have a lot of teams that could compete for the title.

Everyone wants to win, this is natural for us. They are still going

to be the favourites, but it's great that the hosts stay in the

tournament and do really good performances. The spectators want to

see good performances. It's good for the whole tournament. We want to see
