Hello and welcome to our morning highlights, all of the day to's

matches to come and we will look ahead to England against Italy as

well. First, a repeat of the 2010 final, Spain against Holland. Your

commentators are Mark Lawrenson and Steve Wilson.

Four years ago, it was the cool of soccer city Johannesburg, today the

warmth of El Salvador. The biggest kiss you for Del Bousquet was to

play as a centre forward, in fact whether play with one.

at his runs have been very good. He's away, on site. A great little

ball. He's gone to shoot. He caught his foot.

Xabi Alonso for Spain. Cool as you like. Spain 1-0 Netherlands. Xabi

Alonso with the penalty. Never really a doubt. He just stuck his

foot out a little and probably didn't need to do that.

Cilla Senn was going in the right direction but not quickly enough. --

Jasper so listen. Dutch have now. A lovely ball. What

great chance for David Silva. What a fantastic pass. Was he on? Was he

ever! The only problem is with three centre-backs sometimes, if nobody

picks the runner-up and there's a lot of space... That's a really good

save. That's a great ball. Van Persie is onside. What a fantastic

goal! What a fantastic goal! And absolute peach of a ball and Robin

Van Persie heads over Cassius and its 1-1 in Salvador. Picked him out.

Can Robin control this? Arjen Robben. 2-1. Arjen Robben fires the

Dutch in front and world champions Spain are behind in Salvador. What

an upset we have here! It started with the Spanish giving

the ball away. The big chance he had against the same goalkeeper in

Johannesburg is history now, and it sure is now! Both Ramos and Piquet

should have been slightly off the pace a little bit. -- Gerard Pique.

The Dutch are still a long way away from winning this game. There's an

injury to Vlaar is it? Who put him there?

Casillas is complaining. I'm not sure Stefan de Vrij knew much about

it! He is complaining that Van Persie fouled him. There is contact,

most definitely, but he was convinced he was getting it. He must

Flags up. This is turning out to be quite some game. A little pause for

breath from Janmaat. Casillas is caught and Robin Van

player in this World Cup, one of the most decorated players in the

world, and Robin Van Persie puts this game out of Spanish reach. He's

so lackadaisical. His first touch has basically cost him.

Well done, van Persie. Like all good centre forwards, he gambled. If he'd

gone down he might have had a penalty and Casillas could have been

sent off. There isn't a turtle or an octopus in the world that would have

seen this coming! Spain are dispirited. Arjen Robben - there

could be a fifth, there should be a fifth. There is a fifth! Louis Van

Harle and the Netherlands have destroyed the world champions. --

Louis van Gaal. A brilliantly taken goal. Look how he outpaces

everybody. Here is the frightening bit. Who is that trying to catch?

Ramos. It was like running through treacle. Brilliant! The misery for

Spain is that there are still ten minutes to play. Juan Carlos stepped

down last week and the undisputed kings of world football are not

starting this competition in anything like the way they would

have hoped or expected. Surely not six? Casillas makes the

save. It should have been six. A brilliant strike, a great save again

by Casillas. He should have scored. He should have scored from me. What

I hit this is from Arjen Robben. It's the end of the world as we know

it! The world champions have lost the opening game of the World Cup

and how! The wheels have fallen off for the Spanish. They have been

dismantled by Louis van Gaal and his young Dutch team with the old

Masters Arjen Robben and Robin Van Persie proving ageless. A quite

outstanding second-half performance and a literally shocking result!

Spain 1-5 Netherlands. This was a great game. That's why you play

football, to play these games. I think nobody has streamed about a

result like this so it was a great game. In the news Conference

yesterday, I detected a steely determination between the manager

and you. You are here to win this competition. We are here to show

ourselves. I think we have a very good character in the team, a good

team spirit. That's why we won. Physically we are very good, we are

fit and we played against maybe the best football playing team, with

ball possession. But we kept together and we got our chances and

in the second half we killed it off and it was a deserved win. In the

second half, the Spanish heads seem to drop. After the game in our

dressing room, everyone was happening but -- happy, but everyone

said, we continue. It's not done yet. There are still games to play.

That is what I enjoy the most. Now in the dressing room.

We have to look to the future and secure a win in our next match

against Chile. This is the World Cup against the number one in the world

for the last six years. If you see how fit we were, how much we wanted

it and how well we played, I think it is a massive compliment towards

everybody from the team and the staff. We have to enjoy tonight. We

have to take it on and enjoy it but from tomorrow we have to focus on

Australia because it was an incredible evening for Holland, but

it is only three points. I've been here before. This is my fifth

tournament and I don't want it to be... I don't want us to be too

excited about one game because one game is three points. We have to

stick together and improve. Let us reflect on an epic night.

What happened to the world champions, Mark? Absolutely

destroyed, weren't they? Netherlands were brilliant. Defensively Spain

were all over the place as they were for most of the game. But Alonzo's

penalty and David Silva had a fantastic chance but such is

football. At one boy during the first half, I thought Louis Vanguard

has got to get van Persie involved but then a fantastic finish. The

ball to van Persie was sensational, but the way he took the gold... It

was the only way he could have scored. He saw Casillas was slightly

off the line but the pure weight of his header was world class. Does say

-- Spain surprise you? Their heads completely dropped in the second

half. I can't remember the last time they conceded two goals let alone

five goals. Also, I think everyone around looked at the game and they

looked tired and lately. And the defenders as well looked like they

had a long, hard season. When Robben skipped past Ramos, it was

embarrassing. It was a bit like 2010 in South Africa. Louis van Gaal says

the Netherlands can go to the semifinals. Is it realistic? As daft

as it sounds, I think they could have been beaten. They gambled with

the system and have got away with it tonight. The great thing was,

though, the quality of the goals. When you have an Persie and Robben

they can win games here. And let us draw our attention to the

big one. The Italian side gives you chances, doesn't it? They do and it

is not like an Italian side of the old where every name was a household

name. They haven't got a brilliant number ten any more. How old is per

load now? I fancy England because the strength is going forward and be

young pups have been unleashed to have a go at Italy.

A lot of journalists from around the world say that England will win the

group. That doesn't surprise me. In the knockout stage, they could have

a relatively easy game which is a bit of a worry when they do. In an

attacking sense, they will score lots of games if they have a lot of

the ball. And the humidity? Not a great problem because it is the same

for Italy but you start to make mistakes when they get tired.

Hopefully by then they will be 2-0 up. As for the Netherlands, what a

fantastic start! We'll take a look at England's

preparations in a while, but first the other match in Group B.

Australia against the much fancied Chile.

Vidal of Juventus has been passed fit to start after his surgery. The

line-up includes the Cardiff midfielder in central defence.

Australia are the lowest track country to qualify. Tim Cahill wins

his 70th cap. Chile were third in the World Cup

finals in 1962 and since then they have only managed to World Cup

victories in 17 attempts. Look at the amount of Australian bodies back

to protect their defence. They know the importance of an early goal in

this game. Chile in front with 11 minutes gone.

It is the Barcelona man, Alexis Sanchez, to give Chile the dream

start. It is his 23rd international goal.

Just the start for this -- this young Australian team didn't want.

Chile already in dreamland. Often a controversial figure but he was a

clinical one here when he got the touch from Sanchez.

It is already a long way back for the Australian team.

That was a bit more positive from Australia. A burn -- bad day for all

the Australian coach. A timely reminder there about

concentration. Australia might still conjure something.

Tim Cahill gets one back for Australia and squirrels at his third

World Cup final in a row. A textbook till -- goal.

He thumped that header past the goalkeeper. His 33rd goal for

Australia. It is a momentous occasion for the

format Everton player and the country 's all-time leading

goal-scorer. You just never felt this Group B fixture would be 0-0.

Their goal has suddenly invigorated Australia.

Cahill than he was being pulled back there. Was there a significant sum

-- tug of the shirt? It looked like it.

The whistle had already gone from the referee. Tim Cahill was denied

his and Australia's second. He was offside. It was an early flag, in

fairness. There is a wonderful atmosphere inside the stadium. They

have not been disappointed with the entertainment level so far.

Australia are so close to an equaliser.

A wonderful recovery from Wilkinson in the nick of time to deny Chile a

third goal. A brilliant goal -- ball from Sanchez. Wilkinson just stopped

it going over the line. Australia stay in the game.

The 34-year-old couldn't find it that time. He played in the very

first -- Australia played in the very first World Cup. The Chilean

supporters are determined to enjoy the experience. If you told

Australia, heading into the last 20 minutes, they would still be in this

tie, particularly after the first half an hour, they certainly

wouldn't have expected it. They've given it and taken it.

Tim Cahill explore the -- enjoying himself and trying to exploit

Chile's lack of height once more. Another excellent delivery from

Jason Davidson. Their manager has lost only three of

the previous 19 and you wouldn't argue with those eyes!

It is the Wigan Athletic man that ensures that Chile begin Group B

with victory. You can see what it means. Relief for Chile. They know

they have their winning start now. five meetings. It is a winning start

for Chile. They have clinched it with a goal inside stoppage time

from Wigan's Jean Beausejour and that leaves Group B looking like

this. Of course the hosts got off to a

winning start, Brazil beating Croatia 3-1. The other two side in

that group are Cameroon and Mexico. They were watched by Jonathan Pitt.

Two World Cup underachievers kick off their World Cup in pouring

rain. Mexico got out of the group stage for the last five finals but

have got no fine but -- further. Xavier Guzman and is left out for

Mexico after a year without a goal. Both teams need a winning start. The

pressure is on because Brazil's win over Croatia. Will Agua larky bit

in? -- and then got a two draw against

Paraguay. A lovely ball in from the right hand side. Herrera played it

in. Judo, Ivan Kit was, that played it on. A lovely finish from a

smaller -- Djeugoue or I think it was, that played it on. Eto'o with a

shot. All the work done by Assou-Ekotto. Mexico have lost more

games than any other team in the World Cup finals.

kick as he made the tackle. McAndrew goes short, Choupo-Moting coming in.

Mexico looked uncomfortable at the set piece. Eto'o kept it in.

A real chance. Oh, no, they got in each other's way! Came off Marquez,

Moray Low was coming in, and the captain needed a shout that Marino

was coming in behind him. Cameroon, five wins in their last 12

games but under the cosh here. I is glued to the ball.

It's Mexico's first corner of the game. Dos Santos! And again, it's

not given. He cannot believe it. Another big World Cup 2014

decision. Is he offside? There's a player on the line. It came off a

Cameroon player. It should have counted. From that angle, you could

see more clearly that it came off one of the defenders and the goal

was wrongly and cruelly ruled out. Once again, refereeing decisions but

talking point of World Cup 2014. Goalless at half-time.

Mexico have to thank the USA for being here. The TV commentary said

the USA put them in the play-offs. They said it was because of the USA,

not them. A Mexican commentator said, "you do nothing for the

shirt". So far they've been the better side here. A good save. The

striker who has been on fire for Mexico on the last 12 months should

have put it away. Mbia four, room. He went beyond the

defender and was brought down by Hector Moreno. The defender squared

up to him. It's deflected. Goodness me! Flashed

beyond the post of Guillermo Ochoa. Mexico is still look the team most

likely to score. Dos Santos tonight by the goalkeeper but it's in! One -

is the and the hero of the Olympic Games strikes, Peralta. Twice denied

by refereeing decisions in the first half, where goals were struck off.

Slipped into Dos Santos, the goalkeepers Brad himself well, and

Peralta does what all good goal-scorers should do, follow up on

the keeper's save and buried it. 13 goals in his last 13 internationals.

Only four countries have played in more World Cup finals than Mexico.

Nine of their squad were at World Cup 2010. Marquez was there. Four

minutes of stoppage time will be played. A free head and a terrific

save. Having been conservative throughout the game, Benjamin

Moukandjo got in all stop a lovely delivery. Came away from goal,

twisted, a good header. Cameroon thought that was their moment of the

equalising chance. A mistake by Benjamin Moukandjo.

in, lifted it over. And Mexico got off to a winning start with a goal

29 minutes from time by Peralta. They fashioned the better chances

and they've beaten Cameroon 1-0 and this is how Group A stand now.

Brazil and Mexico both have three points. Cameroon and Croatia yet to

get off the mark. England get their campaign under way

later on against Italy. It's an 11am kick-off and it will be live on BBC

One. We can get some reaction from the camp now and here from Jordan

Henderson and Roy Hodgson. Roy, you picked up Euro 2012, the

plans for that, quite late in the day. This is your plan. Does it feel

like Roy Hodgson's World Cup. It might be too much to say that but I

understand what you are saying and it does feel good to have had two

years with the team and see them evolve, to some extent. We've had a

real upsurge of young players who have had fantastic ends of seasons

with their clubs and forced their way into the squad, which makes it

quite exciting because it gives a different balance between experience

and youth. Over the last week I've noticed that the clamour and the

shouts are getting louder for you to unleash those Lions. You need to be

careful when you are coach. I understand it and no doubt if I was

watching from afar with no responsibility, I might be

clamouring myself. But I wouldn't be afraid to put the younger players in

but one hopes that if I do put them in, they will be able to lean on the

experience of the younger players who have played in world cups

before. Is your starting XI for Italy in your starting XI for the

World Cup before or is it a starting XI but is specific for that matter?

They are a very good team, a team capable of dealing with Italy and

how Italy play. The team going into this game, the first game for the

World Cup, with the energy, the pace and mobility they have, I don't fear

that it will be anything like the game that took place in Kiev two

years ago. That is history. We hope we've learned some things from it

but we hope we've learned even more from studying Italy recently. How

important is this World Cup for Wayne Rooney? His career has been

great. What he has done... 28 years - it's really quite outstanding. I

think it's a tribute to his quality and his career that people put so

much pressure on him, if you like, to perform. People are saying it's

all about Wayne Rooney and this is the time for him to shine and score

goals, etc. But it would be very nice of some of the other players in

the team who have the ability could chip in as well and take a bit of

the pressure off these players. This is it. We're now just hours

away and it must feel like it's been a long time you've been together.

You've been to Portugal, Miami, Saint Georges, and you're finally

here. Exciting times, really. Getting the butterflies are starting

to come and excited just to get out there and play football. Has it been

weighing on your mind, how hot it is? Not really. Obviously, we've had

the time in Portugal and Miami to adapt to the heat and get used to

it. Obviously, there's a lot of running, especially in the middle,

but we will have to be careful with it. We won't be able to bomb up and

down the pitch for the full 90 minutes like you maybe would in a

Premier League game. We've got to use our brains a little bit. Do you

fear anybody in this World Cup? No, I don't think we do. We've got some

very good players, we are very good team and we got to show them that.

You've got to get going against Italy with a positive performance,

if not a win. Is there an expectation in this squad that it is

a win you are going for, you don't want to play out a draw? Of course.

You go into a football match wanting to win, no matter what expectation

level or anything like that. You go into a football match wanting to win

and that's what we'll do. We put expectation on ourselves because

we're good players and a good team so you've always got expectations of

yourself but, at the same time, we're very confident and feeling

good going into the tournament. Good luck. Enjoy it. Thank you.

What a day that was and what a performance from the Dutch in

particular. There were Brazilians on the Copacabana below me who were

laughing as that fifth goal went in against the Spanish. We've got two
