Good morning. Welcome to the highlights from Day five. The day

when Cristiano Ronaldo entered the tournament. All of the big names

have delivered so far. We shall find out what happened to Cristiano

Ronaldo against Germany. We have highlights of Ghana against the USA

and Iran against Nigeria. But we begin in Salvador this morning. 18

years after Germany last won a major title, the pressure is on for them

to perform in Brazil. Portugal have lost to Germany in

three out of the last four tournaments.

The good news Portugal is Cristiano Ronaldo is fit to take his place.

Portugal, not many people are talking about them as contenders,

but they have reached two semifinals and a final in the last five

tournaments and it has taken the eventual winners Spain to knock them

out. It is Cristiano Ronaldo! Beaten away by Manuel Knowler will stop --

the ball straight to Sami Khedira. Portugal are lucky to still be level

here. Germany penalty. Portugal's players

continue to protest but it will not make any difference. Mario Gotze

scores. He starts where he left off four years ago in South Africa with

a World Cup goal. Thomas Muller finding the bottom corner. Nani goes

the goal. Well struck from Nani. Just over the top of the bar. Mesut

Ozil waits for support. Germany have to settle for a corner. 2-0

Germany! What a powerful header. Suddenly with just over half an hour

played, it looks like a commanding lead. Toni Kroos with the corner and

Mats Hummels finishing the job. Could be a chance. They all look for

a flag on Could be a chance. They all look for

raised. In the end, the ball just deflecting wide of the goal.

Goalkick for Manuel Neuer. Pepe could be and Barbour. Did he

catch Thomas Muller in the phase? Thomas Muller squaring up to him and

straight off. No stranger to controversy during his career. No

hesitation from the referee. It goes from bad to worse for Portugal. Two

goals down. They will have to play the rest of the match with ten men.

There wasn't an awful lot in that. But here he goes in and he strikes

Thomas Muller on the head. That is what he has been sent off for.

Two minutes of added time. They almost lining up in the centre.

3-0! Thomas Muller is there. This game looks all over and the

half-time whistle hasn't even been blown. Thomas Muller, the golden

Boot from four years ago has two in the first 45 minutes of Jemini's

open game. The initial block from Bruno Alves, but Thomas Muller was

quickest to react after the ricochet came off his leg and Rui Patricio

unable to keep it out. Germany looking impressive so far. Lovely

stadium and decent sized crowd, 51,081. Cristiano Ronaldo cannot get

going at all. Saved by Rui Patricio. Thomas Muller! Portugal's defenders

all look accusingly across the near side. Mesut Ozil unable to take

advantage. Ricardo Costa beaten. Another test here. The block is

made. Lightening quick breakaway for Germany. An excellent chance to add

to the three goals they have scored. Andre Schurrle with the ball in.

Mario Gotze took his time but Portugal able to survive. Nani with

this shot. Eder down and the referee says no penalty. Cristiano Ronaldo

is boiling over. Eder is challenged. Not a great clearance

again by Rui Patricio. Could open the door. Thomas Muller! Thomas

Muller has a hat-trick. It is his eighth World Cup goal. He has a

habit of being in the right place at the right time. Andre Schurrle's all

in. On a plate from the goalkeeper. Rui Patricio could merely push it

out to the German forward. Eder trying to turn away from Per

Mertesacker and gets a free kick. Just over a minute remaining in

added time and a last chance for Cristiano Ronaldo to do something

from a set piece. Good save by Manuel newer. That was travelling

like an Exocet. Solidly saved. There goes the final whistle. Germany have

not dropped points in their first World Cup game since 1986. They have

won the opening match of the seventh time in a row and in five of those

seven games they have scored at least four goals. Pepe sent off and

Portugal were never in the game. Germany convincing winners by 4-0.

Let's get thoughts on that one. Many people thought it would be Cristiano

Ronaldo's chance, but it was Thomas Muller's date? Great German

performance. That they changed Portugal. That was the turning point

for you? Yes. Cristiano is the best player in the world at the moment,

but you cannot play alone. We have seen most of the big sides playing

now, how highly do you rate Germany? The Germans have been one of my

favourites from the start. They came in strong, even at the beginning of

the game they showed a lot of fast play, a lot of quality play. And

Thomas Muller, he knows how to kick it in! He scores goals in world

cups? He is always there. Thomas Muller, he is very skilled, just at

the right moment putting it in. They are so solid. They know what to do

and they know how to play the game. And when they had one man more, it

was game over. Time for the other two games. Iran and Nigeria coming

up in a moment but not many highlights from that one. But first

Ghana against the USA. Watched by Guy Mowbray and Robbie

Savage. The World Cup and all its goals has felt like all of our

Christmas is coming at once. Welcome to the city that was named after

Christmas. Ghana is the youngest side at this World Cup. Sulley

Muntari is there is still there. Tim Howard, Geoff Cameron and Jozy

Altidore all start but the USA. Away we go. Humidity is quite high.

Temperature is very pleasant. Ghana against the United States for the

What a start. 31 seconds played. Clint Dempsey is so quick off the

mark. Jurgen Klinsmann is up of the bench. USA are up and running.

Incredible start. Goes back the December and what a finish. Clint

Dempsey, great start for the USA. So easily passed John Boye. Had one

look at the goalkeeper. Dempsey had to work to keep the US in

possession. It inches away from Bradley. The door was closed.

It seems Ghana is having a lot more of the possession at this stage.

They are, but they are not doing much with it. Howard has two beat

away the shot. They are testing the USA goalkeeper. Andre Ayew. What a

good ball! Asomoah Gyan could not hang in the air long enough to apply

the finish. All of a sudden it is a nervous looking USA. That needed the

left hand of Howard to put it behind. What a leap. It is a

fantastic save. Tim Howard had to go for it. Jones is onto it. He wanted

it a little bit more than Rabiu. They are strong in the midfield

area. Jones coming in from the left hand side. That was such an

important block. He got up there and shut the ball down.

It looked as if that was going to be the best chance the USA have had for

ages to make it 2-0, but it never really opened up. 1-1. Brilliantly

finished. Ghana's persistence paid off. A great run, fantastic

backheel. They just could not close the ball down. A wonderful finish,

the outside of his left foot. Now we see a really interesting end to the

game. Johannson. Johnson round the back. Out it goes. A corner. He has

forced that by Peel in Devon. Johannson is on the keeper. -- by

Peel endeavour. It is in. The stars and stripes are waving for John

Brooks's first goal for the United States. What a finale we are

witnessing. It looks as if he has got the winner! The United States of

America win their opening game of the 2014 World Cup. Joy for Jurgen

Klinsmann. A dejected leader of the Ghanaians. They got back into the

game, gave all they could, but the US one. The US team always have

great spirit. It was a shock but we had an injury. It was a grind, but

it was a wonderful one at the end of the day. We've got to do a better

job of keeping possession. We are still dangerous on set pieces. We

have two stay sharp on those. I think this win will give us some

confidence and give us a boost going into the next game. There is

undoubtedly stuff we need to improve. We had problems keeping the

ball, just pass it around and get a little bit more into the game. But

it is also that we are playing against Ghana. They are a good team

and they know how to grind you. However, we got the three points

that we wanted and we commute on. So, it is Germany on top with the

USA placed second. Now for the second game in Group F Twain Iran

and Nigeria. -- between Iran and Nigeria. Iran have an experienced

squad. Six of them are based in Europe.

The expectation is on Nigerian and this one -- on this one. Desperate

defending from Iran. He outmuscled him. Excellent play. It was an

Aussie with the shot. Keshi is the man who finally gets World Cup

experience as a manager. Nigeria have a free kit. -- a free kit.

After 33 minutes of the game, Iran have their first corner. It is an

inviting one. A great save from Enyeama. Something out of nothing

form Iran. It almost came off for them there, capitalising on a safe

way. Better delivery. A big chance. It

was a foul there. The referee blew up just before it.

Is this going to be the first goalless game of the World Cup? It

is shocking, absolutely shocking. It is a shoulder. That is irrelevant.

It did not hit the target. Odemwingie has looked like a bright

spark since he came on. Last minute of the 19. -- of the 90.

Good defending at the far post. A decent chance for Ameobi. That

result leaves the Group F table looking like this.

So, Clarence, should we gloss over Iran and Nigeria. Not a lot of

highlights there. It was like going back four years ago when we have

those matches where people were just sitting back. Nigeria started well,

but they did not find the golf. Unfortunately, it was the first draw

of the competition, but that is fine. A fantastic finish between

Ghana and the USA. Absolutely. The first half was great for the USA.

They show they have something to say. Ghana came back in the second

half. The corner kick at the end gave the US a chance to bring it

home and they did. You have someone like Jurgen Klinsmann who knows how

to win as a player and manager. Does that make a difference? The

substitution made the difference. He said also after the game that he

still thought they could make it. The difference again, more

maturity. They know how to struggle and stay in the game. Garner did not

create all of the chances, but you still have two hang in there all the

way and that is what they did. Thank you for assessing yesterday's
