And of the Champions League and out of sorts. Injury hit Manchester

United will need to be at it today, against opponents who just keep on

going. Bournemouth saw off the champions at Stamford Bridge only

last weekend and are more than capable of making life difficult in

this first-ever league meeting. Eddie Howe has gone with the same 11

as last week, meaning Glenn Murray, the goal-scorer, is once again on

the bench. Harry Arter plays, despite the fact he and his partner

lost their child at birth earlier this week. The players will wear

black armbands as a mark of respect. Manchester United line-up shows

three changes to the one that started in Germany on Tuesday.

Smalling and Darmian join the injury last, Schweinsteiger starts a three

match ban. Cameron Borthwick-Jackson makes his first start and Paddy

McNair returns, while Michael Parikh plays in midfield with Schneiderlin

named amongst the substitutes. Travelling Manchester United fans

are in good voice in this one as Anthony Taylor gets it under way. He

was on Champions League duty earlier this week in Paris, PSG against Jack

Tasker. Manchester United look to get back on track somewhat, after a

turbulent week in which they were dumped out of the Champions League.

But Bournemouth pushing forward here, King looking to test a

youthful and inexperienced Manchester United defence early on.

Blind, the man to really hold them together here. But King looking to

unsettle Varela and the Uruguayan slides in. Complaints to the referee

that he got his foot to the ball, but it will be a Bournemouth free

kick. The first anxious moment here for Manchester United, in the second

minute of the game. Whipped into the near post. Bournemouth have a

corner, throwing himself at that one, whipped in by Stanislas and the

all bouncing behind off Michael Carrick. Oh, what an extraordinary

goal! Less than two minutes into the match, what a start the match, what

a start for Bournemouth! Junior Stanislas, who brought them back

against Everton with two late goals in the last home match, has given

Bournemouth a stunning start here, as he gets it beyond David de Gea,

in off the far post. Bournemouth one, Manchester United nil. David De

Gea has been absolutely outstanding this season. It's only the ninth

time he has conceded in the Premier League. In his 12th match of the

season. Well, a bad week, it didn't take long to get a bit worse, did

it, the Louis van Gaal. For Manchester United. Parolo was

available on the near side and that will be a free kick. The challenge

by Smith Wash Guillermo Varela. Manchester United looking to hit

back almost immediately here. McNair was there, Fellaini, it's a good

save, not once, but twice. From Artur Boruc. Boruc keeping Federici

out on the side today. Federici, returning on the bench. Dealing with

this effort from close range from Fellaini, a good save by the Polish

keeper and at full stretch for the second one. Not much for Sir Bobby

to smile about so far this evening. Given away thereby Junior Stanislas.

A chance here for Martial. Which he cannot take. There is a very

relieved man indeed, having put his team ahead at one end, an

opportunity at the other. Martial, clean through, unable to take

advantage of Bournemouth's generosity. There is the man who was

manager when Bournemouth produced one of the great FA Cup upsets, back

in 1984, 2-0 winners over Manchester United in the third round, in his

first season as manager then with Bournemouth, Harry Redknapp.

Stanislas is away from McNair but not round David de Gea. Tremendous

break away from Bournemouth there, but Junior Stanislas unable to take

it round De Gea, good goalkeeping. Real confidence about the way

Bournemouth are approaching this match.

Carrick, floating that one in. Tremendous ball, and a good save the

game by Boruc. Racing in its Fellaini, who has the final say for

Manchester United, and who are back level, 24 minutes in. Marouane

Fellaini, who scored against Bruges, in the Champions League qualifier at

the start of the season at his first league goal since May, Boruc made

the initial save but Marouane Fellaini had the final say. Memphis,

taking it in his stride, forcing the save, with the ball sitting up

nicely for Marouane Fellaini. Who then, albeit in a rather unorthodox

manner, made sure the ball ended up in the back of the net. Bournemouth

one, Manchester United won. I think he will be feeling a little happier

than he was two minutes into the match, certainly. But towards King,

beaten to it by Blind, but it's falling kindly for him here.

Gosling, racing into the centre. It's King and now Matt Ritchie for

Bournemouth with the shot. Ritchie, who scored a couple already this

season, had a clear sighting of goal but David de Gea right behind it.

First-ever league meeting between these two clubs, hasn't disappointed

so far. Here comes Francis, still going, Simon Francis here for

Bournemouth, bringing the save from David de Gea. A rousing run and shot

from the Bournemouth defender. Beaten away by the Manchester United

goalkeeper for a corner. France's staying up for this one. Ritchie is

the man to take it. It's thin, and it is 2-1, Josh King, beautifully

worked, wonderfully executed, Bournemouth lead for the second time

today. Josh King was Mac second goal of the season, unmarked, on a plate.

Into the net. There was King, picked his spot, and Bournemouth lead

Manchester United by 2-1, just a week after beating the champions

Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. What a second-half we have got in store

now, as Manchester United have to pick themselves up off the canvas

for the second time in the game. A good response from them in the first

half, Borthwick-Jackson can't find Martial and Harry Arter brings it

away. Feeding it through. The Josh King. He's away from the United

defence, away from Guillermo Varela, and it's just past the post.

Manchester United rocked back on my heels, as King's ball fails to

either find the far corner or find a team-mate at the far post.

Ping is a tremendous ball to the far side. Only half cleared, Fellaini is

there. It is scrambled away to safety and again, Manchester United

coming back strongly, having conceded, and Fellaini having scored

the first once more, bringing the save from Boruc. Another occasion to

relish for Eddie Howe. And for Bournemouth.

Tremendous ball here from Gosling. It's Murray, he's in, and it's over

the top! He won't get a better chance than that between now and the

final whistle. To be honest, it would be hard to see the Manchester

United coming back from that, had Glenn Murray put the ball away here,

and a golden opportunity goes begging. Bournemouth will feel it

should be three. Murray collect will stop Blind was there. Made it look

very easy as well, getting the ball back for Manchester United here. 76

and a half minutes played, and Martial will chase this one. He will

get to it first, brilliant feat. Goal kick. Lightning quick there,

running into the penalty area, Anthony Martial, from the final

shot, said sailing over the top of the crossbar. The home crowd really

doing their bit to try and help to see their team over the line in this

game. This is Murray. It's a famous, famous night on the south coast. The

stadium shaking with excitement. Just a week after topping the

champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, brilliant Bournemouth have

beaten Manchester United by 2-1. I was very proud of the players again

today. Whenever you play the top sides, you need every top side --

every part of your game to be good and we were. In a defensive position

our shape was good and we nullified their threats and we could have won

buy more. Less than two minutes and you must have thought it could be a

long afternoon. Yes, but there is 89 minutes we have the time to equalise

and win this game and we showed that character, I believe, that I have

also said to the players after the match, because I like their

attitude. The commitment is very high will stop that is in my opinion

the most important thing. Talk me through the winning goal. To be

honest it's the first time I scored it. I've been practising in training

and I'm glad it went in today. It's good to score against your old club

which you've spent five years playing football and didn't make my

mark on the first team. Having done the manager -- having met the

manager here, and every week. My mind has already gone on to West

Brom. It's been a great week for the club. I don't think there's been a

week like it. It really has come an extraordinary weekend two fabulous

performances. Yes, if you want to see a team play with energy, with a

worth X -- work ethic and desire, added with quality, you watch

Bournemouth. Today, it was an all-round performance. The start of

the show was a former team-mate of mine, Josh King, who has developed

in the two years I've known him. He hasn't played this role before. He's

normally been a winger in years gone by but with the loss of Callum

Wilson, and today, from minute one, he was determined to show a lot of

the young lads in the United defence that he was stronger than them,

cricket and then, he had more desire. Every aspect of his plague

was there today, the hold-up, which is crucial when you are on your own,

look at his work ethic. There was ten others on the pitch just as good

as him in terms of their effort, but he had been added quality and an

product to his game today. This is a good ball in for Ritchie and all day

he was going at people. You can see the confidence in the last couple of

games have given him, this is the winning goal. Look how strong he is,

he throws Blind Watts. He doesn't lash out, as I is calm finish, side

foot, nutmegs here, the confidence, back on his right foot and a cheeky

effort with the chip. A great day for him, always nice to score

against your old club. He deserves the credit today.

and a rotten week for Manchester United. I am reluctant to say

anything other than praise Bournemouth for the week they have

had, beating Chelsea, beating Manchester United. I know Man United

had injuries, but if there is wanting to complain about injuries

and do not, it is Bournemouth. Tyrone Mings, can Callum Wilson, all

big players, record signings for Bournemouth, and the one obvious

thing that was standing out today for United was lack of leadership,

lack of organisation, particularly from set pieces, which they conceded

goals from. The first goal, very good ball in, plenty of web on it,

the wind might have helped a little bit, -- whip. He is trying to push

the player out of the way, rather than concentrating on the ball. Look

at this brilliant set piece, what is Mata doing? He has got to be in the

six yard box to block the space, and watch how easily King pushes Blind

off. I want that bought more than you, watching shove him off, it

works perfectly for Bournemouth, brilliant from their point of view,

but for Manchester United, the same thing again, Mata, what is he doing?

Come ten yards further back, then you might affected. Blind, an

absolute sitter, seven yards out, six yards out, a free effort on

goal, that cannot happen, any team, let alone Manchester United. They

have got experienced players, no-one is prepared to shout and scream and

pull each other around to get into positions, that is what was missing.

In the modern game, it seems to me, the way it has evolved is about

pressing, energy, short passing, triangles, lots of space, quick

tempo, everything that Manchester United do not do, is that an fair?

Not really. One player who did give a bit of end product today and cut

Bournemouth open was Michael Carrick. He does not seem to play in

the bigger games, for some reason, and even though we talked about the

injuries, on the bench is Ashley Young, international who has played

at full-back, Phil Jones has played for his country, Schneider, and

instead of that he has put in inexperienced kids who are not that

good, if I am honest. Does never changed, little triangles, passing,

even if you are a kid - it is still the basics, you have got to do the

basics well. It should come from the coach, though, shouldn't it?

Everything comes from the coach, the way you start and finish. Is he

still the right man for the job? Given the chance and the amount of

money he has been given, he has got a chance to turn it around.

Alan Curtis took charge of Swansea for their trip to Manchester City

following the sacking of Garry Monk on Wednesday.

City were looking to bounce back from last week's defeat at Stoke.

After a turbulent week, the task of steadying the Swansea ship falls on

the man with a 40 year association, Alan Curtis's immediate challenge is

to prevent Manchester City returning to the top of the Premier League.

Manuel Pellegrini includes former Swansea striker Wilfried Bony from

the start, Kevin de Bruyne is amongst the substitutes, so we

recall for Jesus Navas, and a first league action since April for Kyle

Clichy, who makes his 100th Premier League appearance for City. -- Gael

Clichy. Three changes from the team that lost to Leicester, income Cork

and Hernandez and angle wrangle, who played with the former Swansea

manager. Jonjo Shelvey is still unavailable due to a calf problem.

Swansea back word their Premier League life began, a fixture at the

Etihad Stadium to play their first game without Garry Monk.

A first chance for Swansea to try and attack, and Ramage has got in,

and it needed Joe Hart's legs to make the save. Inside five minutes,

the first time that Swansea have been anywhere near the Manchester

City penalty area, fantastically worked, Routledge copyright side of

Otamendi, but Joe Hart had read the situation and was equal to it. That

got the right side. He has warned that Manchester City's concentration

levels must be maintained today, just two wins in their last six

league matches. Just for a split-second, Silva had lost his

man, which is always a concern into Bony, disappointing with the

connection, 25 Premier League goals for Swansea. Swansea do not allow

David Silva time and space. That is towards Routledge, can he pick the

pass? He can, and another save from Joe Hart to deny Sigurdsson. Twice

Wayne Routledge has got in behind the Manchester City in the first 15

minutes, add the awareness to find a Sigurdsson, and Joe Hart was

required. What a week it has been for Huw Jenkins, reluctantly

relieving Garry Monk of his duties, having received the OBE for his

services to Welsh football, and now he has a big decision to make to try

and appoint a new permanent manager before their next game at the

Liberty Stadium against West Ham. Bony, Silva, quickly out to Jesus

Navas. He shoots, off the head of Ashley Williams, Manchester City's

first corner of the game, it has taken them 25 minutes. Nice little

turn inside from Navas. Ashley Williams very much in the right

place at the right time. Navas himself to deliver the corner. It is

an inviting one too, Bony! He has done it again. Against his former

club, to settle Manchester City down after all their organisation of the

first 25 minutes, Swansea switched off, and it was there for Wilfried

Bony to attack, and he couldn't miss. His seventh goal of the season

for City, his third in the Premier League, his old club are behind.

Manchester City 1, Swansea is a 0. -- Swansea City. The first real

threat of the day has resulted in a goal, Swansea will be frustrated

with the manner in which they have conceded that.

And his departure was sorely felt in south Wales last January. That was a

foul by Clichy on Angel Rangel. Suffice to say, Clichy arrived late.

In from Sigurdsson. The St John's, Ayew, Swansea's top goal-scorer. --

decent chance. He could not find the target.

Sigurdsson, it might still come to him, but Joe Hart denied him. He got

the run of the ball there, Gylfi Sigurdsson, and he didn't give this

up. That was intended for Ayew, came back into his path, squeezed it

passed Joe Hart at his near post. Still no Vincent Kompany, just to

underline his importance to the Manchester City cause, he has played

eight league games this season, and the City have conceded 15 when he

has been missing. A high foot from Sagna. Wayne Routledge was caught.

Yellow card for Sagna for the challenge. This is why. That was

high. Gylfi Sigurdsson. Free kick for Swansea to try and test Joe

Hart, it did test Joe Hart. The Manchester City goalkeeper equal to

it. A really good drive from Sigurdsson, you can see there Howard

moved in the air, and Joe Hart having to readjust himself, did

really well to get two hands to that. -- how it moved in the air.

Five and a half minutes remaining. Through two Gomis. -- to Gomis. It

has just run away from him, really good improvisation from Joe Hart, it

will not count because of the foul on the Manchester City goalkeeper.

The whistle had gone, he had to be big and brave, Joe Hart. Just for a

split second, it looked as though Gomis was in, Sigurdsson's ball, no

question that he was offside, just ran away from him, and then in came

Hart brilliantly. Fairly busy today, Joe Hart, still has his clean sheet

intact. One minute of the 90. That is towards Gomis, age and is,

Bafetimbi Gomis! -- a chance. For Swansea, in the last minute of the

92 level it up! Ten Premier League games without a goal, and that one

might just have got a point for Alan Curtis and Swansea, and you have to

say that is nothing more than they deserve. Left out of the starting

line-up today, on as a substitute and on with a goal, perfectly

weighted pass, beautifully timed run, and what about the finish! He

thumped that passed Joe Hart at his near post, sheer power from Gomis.

Manchester City 1, Swansea City 1. Manchester City only have four added

minutes to try to rescue this. Forward from Mangala. Taylor.

Deflected, oh, it is cruel! Manchester City have hit back in

stoppage time. They will take that slice of luck. Watch this effort

from Yaya Toure, it loops over Fabianski. That is what diverted it

away from the Swansea goalkeeper, and it was off is own player, the

back of Iheanacho. That took it away from Fabianski, Manuel Pellegrini

and Manchester City needed that, but that looks like the goal that, for

24-hour is at least, will take Manchester City back to the top of

the Premier League and will break Swansea City hearts. Last minute of

stoppage time, lifted in by Cork. Trying to make something of it,

Rangel, deflected by Otamendi, it is still not clear. Sigurdsson, Hart

again safely gathers. Relief is the overriding emotion for Manchester

City, who have won it and stolen it, really, from Swansea. Manchester

City 2, Swansea City 1. They be it would finish 1-0, that would be a

normal game, maybe the two minutes at the end was not the way we wanted

to do it. But I think the most important thing today was the three

points. A big win considering we were awful, Swansea played well,

difficult circumstances for them at the moment, so we definitely need to

improve on today. When Bafetimbi Gomis equalised it, did you think

that was that? Madness happens all the time, we are more than capable

of scoring, but just a shame that sometimes we need that to come into

action. I think overall we probably did create chances today, but that

is the difference between teams at the top of the league and teams at

the bottom. We have been struggling of late, and as I said to the

players, that is the standard that we have to set between now and the

end of the season, and if they can do that, we have shown everybody

today that we have got a good team. Swansea played very well, to win

trophies you need an element of good fortune, there to save Manchester

City got a bit today. They didn't play well at all, they looked very

tired, very lazy, but it was just about winning for them, particularly

after last weekend, and the game in the Champions League in midweek,

which is properly why they looked tired. But it was just about winning

the game, and that is a great sign, if you are not playing particularly

well and get the three points. Alarm bells about the way they defend,

though? When you look at Swansea, and they went into the game without

a real centre forward, if you like, they still caused them all sorts of

problems, and City have this way of playing that they have to play

offside, Mangala and Otamendi, we have got them so-called with

Routledge, holding the line, brilliant ball, good run, very good

save from Joe Hart. Again, trying to plate of side, no pressure on the

ball, brilliant run from Routledge. -- trying to play offside. Look at

the space Sigurdsson has got on the edge of the box, no-one is tracking

him. Yes, he gets a bit of luck, trying to play offside, Joe Hart

comes to the rescue. Again, no coincidence that Joe Hart got man of

the match, that is going all over the place, a decent save. They bring

Bafetimbi Gomis on, straight ball, running in behind, and from that

position, a hell of a finish, Joe Hart should not be beaten from that

angle, all his good work was going to be undone. But two minutes left,

if you are going to win the title, Daniil...

You do need luck at times, it comes off Iheanacho. After being beaten

well at Stoke last week, sneaking the win today will feel like they've

had a good week in the end, after that Stoke game. I think with City,

it's a mindset more for me. They've got the quality, we've seen that,

they've got the players. Sometimes they turn up at home and think they

will walk over teams and you can't do that. We mentioned injuries, no

Aguero, so winning games... Another casualty, Garry Monk, casualty of

fear, perhaps? I thought it was very harsh, from a team and manager that

weren't outside the top ten last year so I think he should have been

given more time. It was harsh on him. What you will be the next boss?

A lot of talk of Gus Poyet. They do come up with random ones, Swansea. I

wouldn't imagine Ryan Giggs will want to go anywhere at the moment

because he could be filling that seat sooner than you think at

Manchester United, but David Moyes is out of work, very experienced in

the Premier League, an obvious choice for me. It's a guy who has to

fit into their way of playing. Bus would fit in. Crystal Palace had a

1-1 draw at Everton on Monday night. A good opportunity for Crystal

Palace, Wycombe threw himself at it. -- Wickham. Lukaku. Crystal Palace

corner, Dann attacks it on school for Crystal Palace. Lukaku, he hit

the crossbar. Lukaku, his 50th Everton goal. Palace get another

point on the road, Everton one, Crystal Palace one. Palace have

never beaten Southampton in the Premier League. John Roder was at

Selhurst Park. Wilfried Zaha rip -- returns after

suspension and replaces Jedinak, the only change in aside from Monday.

Puncheon looks for his first goal this season. Top scorer Pelle is

only fit enough for a place on the Southampton bench. Long starts up

front. Gazzaniga makes his first appearance of the season as

Stekelenburg is injured. Rashidah and Romeu also commend us Ronald

Koeman makes four changes. -- also come in, as Ronald Koeman makes four

changes. Away by Long, only as far as Souare. Bolasie turns it across

that pace and Wickham wasn't too far away from meeting it. Bolasie, this

time it's deep but it almost killed into the top corner. Gazzaniga with

the save to prevent the opening goal of the afternoon. I wonder how much

of a factor the wind is here, because that looked to be going well

wide and then suddenly it drifts in at pace towards the goal, Gazzaniga

just able to push it behind for the corner. A good period of Palace

pressure. Driven back in and Gazzaniga with the save again. Look

at the power here that Cabaye gets behind this shot. Gazzaniga regain

in the way. Another important save. Cleared away by Gazzaniga once more.

This time it's Connor Wickham. Connor Wickham still looking for his

first goal in Palace colours, and he just gets there. It's a powerful

header. Southampton able to scramble it clear. Three saves in quick

succession from Gazzaniga. Cedric dispossessed, Bolasie. In

towards Wickham. Puncheon can't get there. A little bit of room for

Wilfried Zaha here. Zaha. Terrific spell of play from Crystal Palace,

as they search for the opening goal of the afternoon.

Monday, turns away from Souare. Long is onside and in behind the Crystal

Palace defence. Does he need help? Shane Long. Marvellous breakaway

from the Saints. A sterling effort, looking to place it into the top

corner, beyond Hennessey. A little backheel to find Cedric.

Davis is in the middle and that's a superb save from Hennessey. Driven

in firmly and that was heading in until Hennessey's interception.

Ronald Koeman's side have only failed to scoring one of their last

ten matches. -- to score in one of the last ten matches. Away by

Yoshida, Zaha, Bolasie. Goes past Scott, Cabella! -- Cabaye! A lovely

move from Crystal Palace. Suspicion of but looks onside. Look at Cabaye,

making the run in the middle. Nobody tracks him at all and it is on the

end of Bolasie's ball in. Bolasie with a great turn of pace here to

get away from fog and a little look to see who had made a run into the

middle. Cabaye had. He's in so much room, look at the Crystal Palace

number seven there. Palace make the breakthrough. Crystal Palace one,

Southampton nil. Romeu loses out, Bolasie comes now

for Palace. Wickham was the only man ahead of him. Bolasie, trailed by

green shirted Southampton defenders. Bolasie is still going and it might

come for Puncheon. McArthur waits in the middle. Puncheon goes for goal

himself. This time in by Bolasie and Southampton were clear. You can see

here Bolasie having a couple of opportunities to perhaps release the

ball into his team-mate there. Connor Wickham. Wickham couldn't get

on the end of the cross and Palace couldn't make anything of the

follow-up. Southampton got bodies back in numbers.

Romeu, a little casual. Cabaye nips in. This is Zaha. Wickham makes a

run through the middle. Zaha might not need it, still Wilfried Zaha. In

the end the block was made by Fonte. And Zaha, back to make the covering

tackle. Bertram there clearly with a tug on the shirt for Zaha. --

Bertrams. Sometimes need to keep it tight at the back. Bolasie, he is

searching through here, -- surging through here, trying to put it back

for the half. A terrific chance to double Crystal Palace's advantage.

Wonderful run from Bolasie. He set up the opening goal and almost set a

goal number two as well. Well taken by Wickham. A super stop

from Gazzaniga. Still, Connor Wickham cannot find his first goal

for Crystal Palace. A lovely piece of control here from the striker.

One touch to control, and one touch to fire it towards the Southampton

goal. Gazzaniga across to make the save. At the expense of a corner.

Two and a half minutes remaining, plus additional time. It might drop

here for Bolasie, Gazzaniga with a one-handed save Wood save. How did

he keep that out? How -- Southampton able to clear. That would surely

have confirmed all three points for Crystal Palace, had it found its way

into the Southampton goal. Wanyama, under pressure from Wickham, who

robs it but fails. It's a wonder. From Gazzaniga to deny Bolasie. --

it's a wonderful save from Gazzaniga. Forward by Fonte. Here is

Long now and the save from Hennessey. That has won the match,

surely, for Crystal Palace. In the last few seconds Long was through

with the opportunity to equalise. Southampton so close. We have done

the job. We played well. Especially at the end. We stayed in a good

shape to keep the result and those three points are very important for

us. In the second half we had the better team, the dominant team, and

we had the best chances and of course Gazzaniga did some good

saves. But arguably the best saves of the game came from Palace's

Hennessey. In the last second, the one against Shane Long, he solved

the problem and if not it is 1-1, and that was, I think, the deserved

result today for both teams. And after the game I spoke to Alan

Pardew. Allen, and victory, a hard-fought one as well. Yes, it was

tough game today, Gary. Southampton really applied themselves well. I

thought we just edged in certain areas, particularly the first half.

We deserved the lead. In the second half, a lot more even but we held

out. You are coming up against the Southampton team who play a certain

way at the back. What was your game plan? We weren't expecting to play

three at the back today. They have done it on occasion. We were caught

out by Sunderland with that system and we learned from that. We were

terrific today, particularly our wide players, who did a great shift

for us, Puncheon and Zaha. Zaha, plays for his offensive play but it

was his defensive qualities that were brilliant for us. The

difference between the two sides was a masterclass in midfield from

Cabaye. He showed every reason for all the pennies we spent to bring in

here. He was terrific. He got in the six yard box to score the only goal

of the game. Yes, tactically he was not meant to be there. I said to him

at half-time, don't be doing that, it was a big mistake! That's what

great players can do. They can come out of their own little box, that

tactical formula that I give them to create something. He has to take

great credit for that. Understanding that was a moment he could do that.

You are in the top six. How far can you take coastal Palace? I don't

know. In this calendar year we have been up there. I think we were six

or seventh after ten games, six after 16, soap we keep getting that

consistency and we have enough experience in the team to make a

charge for Europe. But there's some very good teams in this league we

are one of them. What sets us apart a little bit is the really strong

spirit we have in the dressing room. If we can keep that together we will

have a chance. Good spirit, tactical mouse, set up today, Southampton

came out with a different approach, didn't they? In many ways you

thought it culminated in the goal? It did, but firstly, Palace have

come so far in such a short space of time, Pardew deserves great credit.

The reason they have that edge is those two wideboys. Terrific again.

Southampton set up with a 3-5- two today because they haven't had good

results recently. Here we see the three, the five and the two, and the

goal caused the problem. Sometimes when you change formations to

regularly players get confused. Yoshida rad Bertrams, they are yard

apart, a little bit of communication, don't both need to be

there and it means they have the space for Bolasie's pace to get down

the outside of Fonte. Can they get back and in shape? They should be

able to, they have numbers there. Romeu doesn't see Cabaye, it doesn't

matter what formation you play if you don't see him and that means

Virgil van Dijk gets dragged across because of the first error from the

centre-half and it's unfamiliar. The right back, Cedric, if you are

playing right back you are in their covering, maybe he's in the mindset

of a wing back, to hire bad, but get back. Sometimes when you change the

formation it can cause you to... Maybe they heard that Alan Pardew

doesn't want to get in the box! We saw the terrific goalkeeping in that

game. Hennessey in particular rates outstanding saves of late. He didn't

play the first six games but he's been an ever present since and

without doubt he played his part on Monday evening. A great save here,

nail -- 0-0, second half from Cleverley, that was a fingertip

save, superb, flying in the back of the net but for the goalkeeper. Wait

until you see the next one here if you thought that was good, from

Davis. A great boring, brilliant header, superb. Again, 0-0, so vital

timing. Brilliant, how he can get such a strong hand to tip it over,

last minute, saves his team three points here, makes himself big,

covers the goal and gets it, top drawer. Let's hope he gets all his

good saves between now and the end of the season because England will

play Wales in the summer. He is of course the goalkeeper. Southampton,

four games without a win. It's not happening at the moment? A bit of

luck and I thought they played OK today. The last season they set

themselves such high standards, some of the players have got a bit but

performance wise today, Ronald Koeman will be more than pleased.

Second from bottom Sunderland faced a Watford side who began the day

in the top half of the table after four wins in their last six games.

clearly relishing his time playing at the top level. Life is good for

has been squeezed in! Was it a Ighalo? It is the Watford man who

will go away and celebrate and claim the glory, he certainly played a

part, good running from Nyom. Who gets the decisive touch? It is

Ighalo's goal. A real poacher's instinct although, although...

Beaten at the post, it is Sunderland 0, Watford 1.

Great work from Ighalo, off the line! That is stopped by Pantilimon,

and he hits the post! The Hornets are swarming all over Sunderland.

And Ighalo has started the game absolutely magnificently. What a

stop that was, first from quiet as, then Pantilimon, and we know, with

the goal-line technology, that it did not cross the line watch that

man carefully, Sunderland cannot contain them at the moment.

Borini does it by himself and very nearly finished it by himself! Still

looking for his first Sunderland goal since returning to the club

from Liverpool. That is about as close as he has come. Sam Allardyce

has seen enough, he is going to make a change already with Jack Rodwell

ready to come on. You would think it might be a change to the flat back

four maybe. The right wingback is coming off, Jack Rodwell, a central

midfielder, is on. I think that might mean Billy Jones to write

back, Coates and O'Shea in the middle. -- right back. Fletcher was

trying to centre down to Watmore, but he has to go back into his own

half, he is dispossessed. Beaten clear to Deeney. The ball has run

out. Deeney waited and wondered just too long.

He is close to curling that away from Costel Pantilimon. Sunderland

have not won a home game after conceding first for four years. He

tapped the ball back to Sunderland! And Nyom has caught Watmore this

time. Yann M'Vila free kick, headed

towards his own goal! That had to be saved by Gomes.

O'Shea, M'Vila, Johnson gets it through to De Voux, who is offside.

It won't count. -- Defoe. He finished it, as you would always

expect him to, but the flag was up straightaway, Sunderland close to

getting it right. What a job the Spaniard is doing as Watford boss.

Watmore goes for goal! Sizzling effort. He ordered Rodwell out of

his way before letting fly, just too much curl on it.

He took a bit of the ball and some of Johnson. He has two to aim for

here, Coates had to get it and didn't. Pantilimon comes out to meet

Ighalo and to block. He keeps Sunderland in the game. He has also

spared Coates's blushes. What a save by Gomes! That was the

one for Sunderland, Jermain Defoe was waiting for the right moment, he

got it, and many people in the ground thought that he had

equalised. M'Vila did keep it in, not a good cross, though, and here

go Watford. Ighalo will try to do it by himself. Some excellent sprinting

back from Coates. He has had two excellent opportunities to make sure

this is won once and for all for Watford. Johnson.

Van Aanholt, what a ball from Adam Johnson, it is Jermain Defoe, it is

wide! It is just not falling for Sunderland, it increasingly looks

like being one of those days when, no matter how hard they try, it just

will not go in. M'Vila. Four in the box for him. Help Don, here is

Johnson. -- helped on. Another one flashes across. Defoe got out of

Johnson's way, and that was one of those that every so often does blast

into the back of the net. Not today, though, the story of Sunderland's

day. Here is M'Vila, up towards Toivonen, Gomes with the block, and

he hammers it away, the chances keep on coming, and Watford stand

resolutely strong. For us, it was an amazing win, I think we started

really, really well, the first 25 minutes we played better with the

ball, we created attempts, and finally we were like a compact team,

we showed everyone that we had high quality. I should have kept my mouth

shut, saying we have got goals in the team. I look at the chances

against Arsenal and in the last 15 or 20 minutes today, and especially

today, I am a little bit dumbfounded why we have not at least got one

point on the board. We don't want to be around the bottom of the league,

we want to be up as much as possible, a win today would have

done that, we are very disappointed. You had your troubles at Tottenham

and injuries in Germany, and it seems like you are having a second

career and enjoying this more than ever. I believe a goalkeeper is like

wine, yeah? And I can see that now, of course it was not the best in my

career at Tottenham but, yeah, I am very happy with my performance here

and with the performance of the team. I can only hope that they

start going in and very quickly. January, when am I going to find a

striker that scores in the Premier League? And if I do, how much will

it cost? You could get Shearer, he is quite

cheap! We talked in the previous games, three or five at the back,

Sunderland have been playing that well for a while, it has been

working, but it backfired today. Yeah, they played a 343, like Defoe,

of course, and because of Watford's really good start, it became 5-4-1,

and it gave Watford tremendous confidence in the beginning. They

could have been three goals up. This is the front three, would you

believe? This is three or four minutes into the game, Watmore,

Borini, giving support to Fletcher, but it didn't happened early on.

Watford are confident, good form, we know that, but it was so easy for

them. Defensively, Sunderland were 1 million miles from where they were

against Crystal Palace a couple of weeks ago, for example. Look at the

pressure on the ball, this is at home in a game they need to win, and

it is because of the formation - the players did not know where to go.

This is a midfield four and a back five, scared of the early goal they

did not want to concede anymore. What you do as an opposing player,

you become more confident, more touches on the ball, they and were

fortunate to be only one goal down. Four midfield players, five

defenders, in their own half in a home game. Against Watford, no

disrespect, they should be looking to be on their front foot. Where is

Watmore? He should be saying, push on, going higher, they are playing

with two left backs, it is bizarre. But Sam Allardyce being the

experienced man he is coming he saw this happening, great skill from

Ighalo. Somehow, they get it away and stay in the game. He smashes the

ball against the post, and big Sam made the change 20 minutes in,

seconds after they got a foot hold in the game, Defoe comes on, what a

save from Gomes. This one, you cannot believe this doesn't go in,

brilliant management from Sam to recognise the mistake, bring Rodwell

on, change the formation, 4-3-3, back in the game, they could have

nicked the draw in the second half. And other goal for Ighalo, ten this

season, what an effort. Three at the back, four, five at the back, as

Sunderland tried today, the form these two are in, Deeney and Ighalo,

so brave of Watford, one of the few teams that... Look at this skill, he

sends O'Shea for an ice cream, see you later! Brilliant, the way he

pulls them left and right, look at them, great skill to look at. Three

times he did that in that particular game. This time against Billy Jones,

he goes the opposite way, right onto his left foot. The last couple of

minutes, Adam Johnson, thanks very much, see you later! Lucky not to

get a goal. Ran out of ice cream! So brave, the way Watford are playing

with two upfront, and they are rewarded, 25 points already. Three

successive wins, first time in the Premier League. They worked their

socks off as a team, and when you consider the turnover of players in

the summer, add standing. -- outstanding.

Goal difference alone was keeping Norwich out of the bottom three

The visitors arrived at Carrow Road unbeaten in five.

A surprise call-up last week for Declan Rudd, he retains his place in

the Norwich starting XI, and Alex Neil has strengthened the spine of

the side as Jerome and Hoolahan return. Leighton Baines is recalled

at left back for his first start of the season after his ankle injury,

goal machine Romelu Lukaku aims to score in his sixth successive

Premier League match. Oh, loose, O'Neill could not gather

it, and it is Cleverley for Everton. Deulofeu bringing Olsson infield. He

finds Kone, and it goes behind by Russell Martin, his initial error,

he made up for that, but evidently will have a corner. Someone selling

those hats has done a bit of business today, haven't they?!

Everton can come again. If stones can keep it in. Also the way, only

as far as Deulofeu. Poor defending this, from Norwich. A lovely cross.

Lukaku could not miss. The goal machine adds another to his

impressive Everton tally. 51 for him, now. He has scored in each of

its last six Premier League games. I wonder if Jamie Vardy's recently

established record might be under threat from the Belgian. Shoddy

defending from Norwich. Several poor clearances along the way.

Eventually, it's a wonderful ball in from Deulofeu. Lukaku clearly

onside. From a tight angle, just guided it into a gaping net. Norwich

behind inside 15 minutes. Romelu Lukaku the scorer. Norwich nil,

Everton one. Clever from Lukaku. Now he has

released Kone, out comes Rudd. A vital save. That was brilliant from

the rookie goalkeeper, who spread himself and makes a very important

save. Stones, 30 minutes gone. Everton looking very comfortable.

Coleman finds Cleverley all too easily and Lukaku with the -- in

again. He is human after all. Another let off for Norwich.

Terrible defending. It hits Lukaku at the back post. You would put your

house on him scoring that, wouldn't you?

Stones now playing on the right wing. Deulofeu, who is the right

wing for Coleman, Lukaku has taken up a great position. There he is, he

has missed it again. It's Baines, against the angle of the crossbar on

the post. And Norwich make a mess of it again. Well, how on earth is it

still just the one goal to nil that evidently this? The goal machine

Lukaku made a mess of it. Baines thought he had made up for it.

Smacks against the post, was but completely beaten. -- with Declan

Rudd completely beaten. Kone has made Martin make an error. Out road

again and for the second time today, Declan Rudd comes to the rescue. --

out for Declan Rudd again. Here, that the game, with Lukaku. -- here

come Everton again, with Lukaku. Lining one up and putting it wide.

Listen to this that Carrow Road, boos echoing around the stadium for

this sloppy, shoddy performance that Norwich have put in so far.

In steps Funes Mori. Now Barkley, it is two against two here, Barkley

with Lukaku. Faced by Bassong. Just wide again from Lukaku. How many

goals could he have scored in this first half best remark step inside

Bassong and looks to curl it using the defender is the shield, doesn't

get a clear view of it. A second goal will not come for Martinez and

Everton. Jerome is too strong for Stones.

Baines has the clear. That's just the start that Norwich City would

have been looking for. Getting the supporters excited again. Strength

there from Jerome. Norwich actually ahead on the corner count. Robbie

Brady with their third of the game. Howard couldn't get to it and he has

cleared off the line, no, it is in now! Norwich City have equalised.

It's a scrappy, scrappy goal. Wes Hoolahan, I think it was, who forced

it over the line. Barkley tried to keep it off the line but Hoolahan

and Norwich were not to be denied. Just the start Alex Neil wanted to

the second half. There is Bennett's header, Barkley initially successful

but Hoolahan on hand to force it steer it over the line. Howard got a

touch on the header as well. For all their dominance and the woeful play

that Norwich produced in the first 45, 46 minutes into the game we are

all square. Norwich one, Everton one. It goes without saying that

Norwich have to hold onto this scoreline for a while. They can't

afford to allow Everton to restore their lead swiftly. A clever ball

for Russell Martin, who is in behind Mirallas and has found across.

Jerome, oh my word, what I miss by Cameron Jerome! Well, that is worse

than one Romelu Lukaku missed in the first half. Jerome involved. It's a

lovely pass here for Russell. Hoolahan kept it moving with a

delicious backheel and Jerome somehow clears the crossbar.

Into the feet of Barry, a good safe by Declan Rudd. Mirallas.

O'Neill hasn't cleared it. He still hasn't got it away fully. And Baines

has given it away cheaply to Brady and suddenly, Norwich on the search

again. He is looking for Jerome Valcke Funes Mori just gets enough

on it back to his goalkeeper. Some very important saves the day by

Declan Rudd. Gareth Barry thought he was finding the goal for Everton. It

could have been two at half-time, the fact it wasn't gave us an

opportunity to get back into the game. It's all right of an

opportunity, -- it's all right of an opportunity, you have to take it. We

did and it put us on the front foot. As the game wore on big Webber we

became more confident. Our performance was hunting and it will

be difficult to explain the result, ending up with a scoreline drawer.

That's what we need to make sure that we look into ourselves, take

any excuses, we want to become better and we are close to becoming

a good team. Being a Norwich lad and playing for my hometown is a big

thing and I want to make sure that I get in there and do what I'm capable

of. When you get a chance to make a save, you need to make it. Have you

set yourself a personal goal of number of goals in the last Everton

striker to score 20 or more is Gary Lineker? A great player! You've got

to say that! I know, I just want to keep going and work as hard as I can

every single day and keep my hands on the ground and see where I go. 20

league goals, I think you will find it will be 30! It must be the black

and white era! In an attempt to avoid an obvious football cliche,

can we say it's a game of contrasting halves? Absolutely, I

like the look of Everton. They have a good side in Stones, Coleman,

Baines, Barkley, Deulofeu, but we sat here two weeks ago and Danny

said they need to be more ruthless against Bournemouth and it was the

same today. There were chances in the first half. They got their goal

and on about exaggerating in saying there should have been four. That is

a brilliant ball, get on the end of that, Lukaku aren't Deulofeu. They

got their goal, Kone, 111, score. They will regret this in a minute,

if they don't take these chances. -- one on one. A great ball in, Lukaku,

should put it in. Another good ball from Coleman. He doesn't quite go

but hits the post, Leighton Baines. They are going to get punished here.

Kone again, one-on-one, he has a look at the goalkeeper, might get

clattered. It was never-ending, Gary. Lukaku should hit the tar

target. After the break, this happens. A good ball in, scramble,

and Hoolahan sticks it away. And in the end Norwich could have gone on

and won it but for better finishing from Cameron Jerome. It was sitter.

I don't know how he misses that. That game should have been all over

before half-time from Everton. Is porous Norwich were, they deserve

credit for hanging on in there. A lot,. Brood off by their fans, to

come out and play with courage after that, credit due, very much so. An

important point. It's five games without

a win for West Ham. They faced a Stoke side whose 2-0

victory over Manchester City last week was their sixth clean

sheet in eight games. Alistair Bruce-Ball

was at Upton Park. Slaven Bilic is without five key

players today, Winston Reid and Victor Moses have gone down. Collins

comes into defence, Antonio makes a first for nearly start since his

move from Nottingham Forest. Mark Hughes has been denied the option

with going with the tricky front three that caused problems last

week. Shaqiri is unavailable with a thigh injury, Van Ginkel replaces

him, Arnautovic has scored both times he has faced West Ham in the

Premier League. Alex Song finds Noble. Noble interns finds Carroll.

This might come for Kouyate. There's a good strong double handed save on

it. A difficult man to beat, Jack Butland. Six clean sheets in his

last seven games. Macro and England. Took a slight deflection, that one.

trouble and got his team out of it. I don't think there's enough in it

for a penalty for Noble. Here is Zarate. Zarate tumbles, not going to

get that one, but Alex Song can play Cresswell. Cresswell's ball, just

over the bar. Antonio looking for a first goal for West Ham, a first

Premier League goal, and he is denied. But West Ham coming on

strong at the end of the first half. Ogbonna towards Carroll. It's gone a

long way. A good save, Butland. He stood tall. The shot was pretty

close to him. Well hit by Antonio, who is becoming more of a threat in

the game. Butland's hearings aimed towards

Walters, climbed well. Bojan, not tall enough, falls for Cameron.

Cameron took a little kick from Kouyate. He will get books as well.

I think Kouyate's reaction tells you everything about how he feels about

the decision, fairly mystified. Arnautovic looks like he fancies it.

Can he break the deadlock? Here he comes. Arnautovic takes the flick

off the ball and rattles the woodwork. Bojan hit that well, but

hit it away too high. That was viciously dipping free kick from

Arnautovic, certainly helped by the Frick off the wall. Was beaten --

Adrian was beaten. Valencia, rarely seen him since he has come on.

Continues his run through the middle. What is Zarate going to do?

Zarate the Cresswell. Butland with the acrobatics. Maybe that was more

awkward than it looks from here. Certainly don't think Cresswell was

aiming for the top corner. Butland really did have to be at full

stretch. Mark Hughes doesn't look that entertained.

Jews, Adrian, it doesn't matter how you save them as long as you save

them. -- Diouf. Unconventional from the goalkeeper, lovely move from

Stoke. Here is Zarate, into Antonio, who is allowed to turn. Space

closing around, desperate to get the right foot shot away, does it in the

end, oh! That would have been a fabulous goal. Still Zarate. Tomkins

in towards Andy Carroll, Valencia, what a story that would have been!

Butland keeps the clean sheet in tact for Stoke, ran right across the

face of the penalty area here, Zarate, absolutely rattled Butland's

left-hand post. Valencia did get a touch on that, but not enough. Bojan

trying to go around Tomkins, too quick for him, too short. Arnautovic

now, a chance for Diouf to win the game, couldn't take it. West Ham

grateful to the goalkeeping skills of Adrian, but Diouf knows that

should have been the winner, that should have been three points for

Stoke. Now Creswell, can he find a cross? The ball in, it's Shawcross

and behind for the corner, this will be the last chance of the game. --

hits. Butland has spilled it, off the line, Couillard Tay, punched

away! So close, the last action of the game. Well, well, well! 90

minutes of blood, sweat and tears very nearly decided with the very

last touch of the game, it finishes West Ham 0, Stoke 0, and even Slaven

Bilic could not get the final touch. I am not happy with the final

result, but considering who we played against, considering the

numbers and quality of the players that we did not have today, and

considering the way we played today, and the effort we put in, I cannot

be unhappy. We had good chances with first time balls zipping across, we

just needed the final touch, couldn't quite get it. Second half,

more open, change things around, got balls in behind them, we had two

really good opportunities to Diouf, the keeper has done well to keep

them out. All in all, on reflection, probably reasonably pleased with a

point. I am not sure how that finished 0-0, 34 attempts on goal

but goalless it was. When he brought Tucson, he had the best two chances

for Stoke. -- brought Diouf on. Great pass from Arnautovic, this is

probably why they are joint lowest scorers in the league with Aston

Villa. Zarate has done well in recent weeks, and in the last

minute, they could have won it, Kouyate had it cleared off the line,

and as Mark Hughes said, the draw was about right, but pleased that

West Ham continue to get some good results. Promising season. Stoke are

right at there with clean sheets, and it is not coincidental that Ryan

Shawcross has been involved. You had a good battle today, good aerial

challenges against Andy Carroll, and he loves a battle like that, good

player. We are just about out of time, so no more questions from the!
