Hello and welcome to the Premier League show.

:00:38.:00:39.

Coming up this week: Gary, Alan, Wrighty and Danny add the finishing

:00:40.:00:42.

touches to their all-time Premier League XI.

:00:43.:00:45.

We hear from Juan Mata, whose Manchester United side

:00:46.:00:51.

And with the likes of Costa, Sanchez and Coutinho angling

:00:52.:00:55.

for big moves elsewhere, Liverpool fan Tom Price has

:00:56.:00:59.

some coping strategies for supporters about to lose

:01:00.:01:01.

With me to discuss it all are former Norwich, Blackburn,

:01:02.:01:09.

Chelsea and Celtic front man Chris Sutton.

:01:10.:01:10.

And Radio 1 Xtra DJ, Arsenal fan and champion

:01:11.:01:12.

of grass roots football, FA People's Cup Show

:01:13.:01:14.

Is the also have a club to offer the also have a club to offer? From the

:01:15.:01:28.

from the Wessex league. Congratulations to both of you. We

:01:29.:01:42.

will look the last seven days. Hopefully I will be able to score

:01:43.:01:48.

goals and I will do well for hopefully I will be able to score

:01:49.:01:51.

goals and I will do well for this club.

:01:52.:01:52.

LAUGHTER Three goals and under four three

:01:53.:02:10.

goals and under four a Man United rip their hosts apart. He has got he

:02:11.:02:14.

has got away. Mooy for Huddersfield Town. A sucker

:02:15.:02:44.

punch. Rooney with a shot, it is deflected and it's in! In the net by

:02:45.:02:52.

Rahane sterling. 200 league goals, Wayne Rooney. -- by Iraq even

:02:53.:02:55.

sterling. Wayne Rooney has announced his

:02:56.:03:02.

retirement from international football. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has

:03:03.:03:10.

signed a new one-year deal at Manchester United.

:03:11.:03:22.

Is this it for ever for Wayne Rooney at England or do you think we may

:03:23.:03:27.

see him in Russia next year? I think he has made a sensible

:03:28.:03:37.

decision, looking at his age and he wants to commit to Everton. This is

:03:38.:03:42.

a good move, he started so brightly this season and I feel he does not

:03:43.:03:46.

warrant a starting place in the England Jersey. He has married all

:03:47.:03:50.

of these things together and you will give it all for Everton. He

:03:51.:03:54.

looks like a different man this season, he is enjoying things and

:03:55.:03:59.

fans will be delighted? He has gone back to his Boyhood club, this is a

:04:00.:04:11.

book that has been written and he is so pleased to be back at Everton and

:04:12.:04:14.

as a fan I cannot imagine what it would be like to score goals for

:04:15.:04:17.

them and you can see that with Wayne Rooney, all of the fans are living

:04:18.:04:22.

through him. His Chelsea career affirming results, Conte, after

:04:23.:04:27.

Burnley? The rich huge question marks over what is going on at

:04:28.:04:31.

Chelsea, he was to bring more players into the club, supposedly.

:04:32.:04:36.

But they needed a performance and a response and they did that in

:04:37.:04:40.

typical fashion, organised, disciplined and they had that threat

:04:41.:04:43.

and that was a big win against Spurs. After that first result for

:04:44.:04:50.

Arsenal, that was a thriller to open the season, last weekend, the knives

:04:51.:04:54.

are out, Arsene Wenger must go. Where are you on this, Nick? He

:04:55.:05:00.

should have left at the end of last season, after winning the FA Cup.

:05:01.:05:03.

The fans would have been grateful for all of the work he has done but

:05:04.:05:08.

for another long two years and the cracks already appearing, he is

:05:09.:05:12.

under the pump once again and it can only get worse if we lose against

:05:13.:05:17.

Liverpool this began. And the pressure is definitely not on

:05:18.:05:21.

Huddersfield, what a great start? What a two games. The manager is

:05:22.:05:27.

superb and enthusiastic and that rubs off on to the players. Second

:05:28.:05:34.

favourite team? Because of Patrick Stewart and the various different

:05:35.:05:38.

Yorkshiremen you can see! Frank Worthington was a real boost to my

:05:39.:05:40.

Saturday! There's so much to discuss,

:05:41.:05:42.

we've not even mentioned They're top of the table,

:05:43.:05:44.

banging in goals, with the attention naturally falling on Romelu Lukaku

:05:45.:05:48.

and Paul Pogba. But more than playing his part

:05:49.:05:49.

is a softly spoken Spaniard. Pogba! Four! Manchester United have

:05:50.:06:10.

a flying start. It has been a great start to the season, winning 4-0 in

:06:11.:06:16.

those games and we are feeling great but we are calm. As a manager says,

:06:17.:06:20.

this is a beginning and we need to keep going. Lathan Ibrahimovic is

:06:21.:06:26.

back. How does he make the team feel? Great. Everybody knows what he

:06:27.:06:33.

can give us. His personality on and off the pitch and he can be a big

:06:34.:06:43.

boost for us. You can imagine he is very confident by himself and he can

:06:44.:06:47.

give us this confidence and he will be very important for our objective

:06:48.:06:52.

is to fight for the title. Happy day today. Do you feel the season is

:06:53.:06:56.

going in the right direction and you will get back to the level the club

:06:57.:07:02.

deserves to be at? Hopefully. When you know the manager and some of the

:07:03.:07:06.

players, their second gear with him, they are more confident and we know

:07:07.:07:11.

how he wants to work. You are more used to his personality so you can

:07:12.:07:16.

perform better so hopefully this year we can find the consistency we

:07:17.:07:21.

did not have last year in the Premier League and we can fight for

:07:22.:07:26.

this big trophy. What a contrast from last season. And the

:07:27.:07:30.

strengthening of that squad. Three from the four signings he was

:07:31.:07:34.

targeting, he was so pleased and everything is right in the world

:07:35.:07:38.

when Jose Mourinho is happy? Only two games, but they have been

:07:39.:07:44.

sensational games from United's point of view. They did score enough

:07:45.:07:48.

last season and they have added Lukaku. He stretches back for

:07:49.:07:55.

something which Ibrahimovic did not do and Matic, what is signing! Wider

:07:56.:08:01.

Chelsea let him go to their arrival? I don't think the manager wanted to

:08:02.:08:06.

sell him. He has made a massive impact on Paul Pogba, he looks much

:08:07.:08:12.

freer. Release the horses, when the manager says that after only two

:08:13.:08:16.

matches, the fans must be in heaven, we are scoring for fun, the players

:08:17.:08:21.

look incredibly physical, really strong and up for this? I have got a

:08:22.:08:28.

lot of United fan friends living in London, obviously! But they are very

:08:29.:08:33.

happy this season because they have gone for a few years of negative

:08:34.:08:38.

football and when Mourinho went United people were worried it would

:08:39.:08:43.

be parking the bus like Chelsea and it is not that this year, it is

:08:44.:08:48.

free-flowing. Do we have to wait for one of their title rivals to really

:08:49.:08:53.

assess their form? They have Leicester at home at the weekend.

:08:54.:08:57.

You think they will have enough to beat them but when they start

:08:58.:09:01.

playing Spurs and Chelsea and even Arsenal, we will have a much clearer

:09:02.:09:06.

picture. Even the Arsenals! Faint praise!

:09:07.:09:08.

Last week Gary Lineker and his panel of Alan Shearer,

:09:09.:09:11.

Ian Wright and Danny Murphy picked the goalkeeper and defenders

:09:12.:09:13.

for their all-time XI from 25 years of the Premier League.

:09:14.:09:16.

After much discussion they went with Peter Schmeichel in goal

:09:17.:09:18.

and a very familiar back four of Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand,

:09:19.:09:21.

This week they're picking the midfield and forwards

:09:22.:09:26.

from a shortlist drawn up by BBC reporters and commentators

:09:27.:09:28.

I sense there's going to be plenty of heated debate.

:09:29.:09:38.

This is going to be very tricky picking the all-time Premier League

:09:39.:09:46.

11. We have decided on a system, going the old-fashioned 4-4-2, two

:09:47.:09:55.

midfielders and two wide players. We have got two wide players, six on

:09:56.:10:00.

the table, I want each of you to pick two of them, right and the

:10:01.:10:06.

left. We have some names! Good luck! Danny? On the right side, when you

:10:07.:10:13.

think of the Premier League, Beckham springs to mind as United, winning

:10:14.:10:19.

things, free kicks. Ronaldo gets dropped in. Ronaldo, the last couple

:10:20.:10:26.

of years, it was phenomenal and what he has gone on to do. I did not

:10:27.:10:31.

think somebody was going to make an impact as a number seven after

:10:32.:10:36.

Beckham and Eric Cantona, like this man, he has done it. It is hard to

:10:37.:10:42.

say he is not the best player who has ever played in the Premier

:10:43.:10:49.

League? Yes. I am delighted we are playing with two winners, great

:10:50.:10:52.

system. That right-hand side, I know that Beckham had longevity.

:10:53.:10:58.

Brilliant at delivering those balls. But I would have Ronaldo on the

:10:59.:11:06.

right hand. As a modern-day player, we have Mazar. We have not even got

:11:07.:11:14.

to Ryan Giggs. With Eden Hazard, there needs to be more consistency.

:11:15.:11:20.

We will reserve judgment for a moment while we look at the

:11:21.:11:25.

left-hand side, Ryan Giggs, his phenomenally long career at Man

:11:26.:11:28.

United. Winning the title a million times. Gareth Bale has gone on to

:11:29.:11:34.

become a world superstar whilst at Spurs he was showing that amount of

:11:35.:11:39.

promise and John Barnes. A player from my own era, wonderfully gifted

:11:40.:11:45.

player. And you're a hero, Danny? All day long, he would always be

:11:46.:11:51.

left-hand side, but I understand that with Ryan Giggs, what he has

:11:52.:11:55.

achieved, that spell in his mid-30s were the supporters got on his back

:11:56.:11:59.

for quite a while, which was disgrace. He did not just bounce

:12:00.:12:06.

back, he contributed significantly to their success from a central

:12:07.:12:10.

midfield position. I am not many midfielders could have done that. We

:12:11.:12:14.

are talking about the Premier League and you cannot look beyond anyone

:12:15.:12:21.

other than Ryan Giggs. Decisions? Your two? Ryan Giggs on one side and

:12:22.:12:29.

Ronaldo on the other. Sounds good! I would have John Barnes and Ronaldo.

:12:30.:12:37.

I wanted back involved, you cannot take Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs. Giggs,

:12:38.:12:49.

obviously. Giggs, 2-1. Ronaldo is going here. Giggs over here.

:12:50.:13:03.

Ronaldo! Brigg and Goole! -- brilliant goal! Giggs gets the touch

:13:04.:13:14.

and he beat some! -- beats him. I sense we might have shot ourselves

:13:15.:13:18.

in the foot I picking two wide players so we can therefore only

:13:19.:13:23.

have two of the players we have in front of me. There is so much talent

:13:24.:13:30.

here. This will be very difficult. One of each of them should be on the

:13:31.:13:36.

board, we should be discussing... Steven Gerrard? On the right wing? I

:13:37.:13:42.

am glad you said that, it sounds biased but I think there was no

:13:43.:13:46.

other midfielder on the list that has attributes that he has not got.

:13:47.:13:52.

He has not won the Premier League. This is a Premier League team. Frank

:13:53.:14:00.

Lampard, 100 and 77 goals. Could we dare stick these two together?

:14:01.:14:11.

Scholes, one of the truly gifted players. Happily mentioned Roy Keane

:14:12.:14:18.

yet? Were putting them together. I think Patrick Viera as well. He was

:14:19.:14:26.

unbelievable. Getting forward and back, leadership. He learned a lot.

:14:27.:14:34.

Nasty. We saw a lot of that. Was he nastier than Roy Keane? Is nasty and

:14:35.:14:40.

good thing? How many games did he miss because of silly tackles? He

:14:41.:14:46.

probably will not get in there but he deserves a mention. What about

:14:47.:14:57.

Frank Lampard? If you are talking about goal-scoring in the field...

:14:58.:15:01.

There is nobody better. The problem we have got with the setup is we

:15:02.:15:07.

have got Steven Gerrard, who I believe... I have gotten, sorry. He

:15:08.:15:13.

can deal with that. He can do all of that.

:15:14.:15:17.

My think you are talking two from Lampard, Keane, Vieira, Scholes and

:15:18.:15:26.

Gerrard. Good luck! Difficult to turn Keane over. I did a few times!

:15:27.:15:33.

I would have Lampard. We haven't spoken much about Paul Scholes, who

:15:34.:15:39.

is arguably one of the best passers in English football history. This is

:15:40.:15:45.

why, if it were to go down to one of them getting in, he could be the one

:15:46.:15:53.

who could hold and sprayed passes. We are talking about a partnership

:15:54.:16:00.

here? It seems that neither Keane nor Vieira. What about a partnership

:16:01.:16:13.

of Vieira and Lampard? For me, for me, Gerrard has to be there because

:16:14.:16:16.

he can give you everything. He does everything. I would say skulls and

:16:17.:16:25.

have Gerrard next to him. -- I would say skulls and have Gerrard next to

:16:26.:16:30.

him. I cannot not pick Frank Lampard -- Paul Scholes. So you are going to

:16:31.:16:37.

leave our Gerrard? No, I've got to pick Gerrard. I'm going to pick

:16:38.:16:45.

Frank Lampard. I'm going to big Gerrard! Two choices. Steve Gerrard

:16:46.:16:52.

is in but I don't want it to affect your thinking. My partnership would

:16:53.:17:01.

be Vieira and Lampard. It is Gerrard and Lampard, of course it is. It

:17:02.:17:07.

doesn't work, lads! Too many managers managing there! Can we pick

:17:08.:17:16.

a manager? Sven? For me, under Glenn Hoddle, that would work. I agree.

:17:17.:17:21.

Under this system, it properly wouldn't. Gerrard and Lampard it is.

:17:22.:17:26.

Can we just have Paul Scholes somewhere here because something

:17:27.:17:32.

isn't right here? COMMENTATOR: Gerrard! Oh, how about that?

:17:33.:17:48.

Lampard. Good it full -- good hit. Super it. We thought that the

:17:49.:17:53.

central midfield would be difficult and it was and now, the strikers.

:17:54.:17:57.

Look at this lot. You could pick any two and you would have a impressive

:17:58.:18:04.

front pairing. Alan, off you go. I have a theory that we will have this

:18:05.:18:12.

tucked up, Ian Wright and I've! -- Ian Wright and me. This is it, man,

:18:13.:18:18.

this is what it comes down to. There are two players here who I love. I

:18:19.:18:24.

imagine that one of them would be Dennis Bergkamp. OK, there are three

:18:25.:18:29.

players! LAUGHTER Way is that I played against and for

:18:30.:18:39.

the likes of Sheringham, watching Teddy, he was fantastic. I played

:18:40.:18:43.

against him from the early 80s. And Robbie Fowler. A natural. He made

:18:44.:18:51.

finishing look easy. He did. One guy on that list, Suarez. He wasn't here

:18:52.:18:58.

that long. Four seasons in the Premier League. Massive impact. We

:18:59.:19:06.

have Thierry Henry. He was poe be the player on this list, -- he was

:19:07.:19:15.

probably the player, when he's on the team list, you would be in

:19:16.:19:18.

trouble. Eric Cantona. Jumping in, massive impact. Huge impact at

:19:19.:19:25.

Manchester United. But I've got to mention old square head. Square

:19:26.:19:34.

head? Shearer, man, he doesn't talk enough about what he's done. He's

:19:35.:19:40.

somebody admired as a striker. What's annoying about him, you knew

:19:41.:19:43.

him and you would be in the tunnel with him and he would blank you, not

:19:44.:19:47.

even look at you, he wouldn't acknowledge you. He was so focused

:19:48.:19:54.

on goals, goals! You look at the results, how did they get on today,

:19:55.:19:58.

Blackburn, Newcastle, wherever he was, Shearer, yes, he scored two. It

:19:59.:20:04.

was relentless, hence the numbers he got. Hang on. We can sit and discuss

:20:05.:20:17.

the talent of these forwards. Dennis Bergkamp is someone who is

:20:18.:20:19.

influential and one of the great players in the Premier League. He

:20:20.:20:27.

might not get in the team. For me, Dennis changed the DNA of Arsenal.

:20:28.:20:32.

Talking about partnerships, I would go for Henry. Henry Candy drift, he

:20:33.:20:41.

likes to go to the left. Aguero, he wants to be high up but it is Henry

:20:42.:20:46.

for me. Wayne Rooney. If you wanted to, he could play on the right, if

:20:47.:20:51.

you wanted him in the number ten role. Sometimes he sacrificed

:20:52.:20:55.

himself for the team, when the manager wanted him in different

:20:56.:21:00.

positions. Great work ethic. And to still have the record that he has.

:21:01.:21:04.

It is hard to leave out Rooney, I'm going with Henry and Shearer.

:21:05.:21:10.

Absolutely. Without a doubt. That takes the pressure off now, you can

:21:11.:21:22.

pick somebody else. Forget about Wrighty! I would pick Rooney.

:21:23.:21:29.

Perfectly valid. And Henry. There you have it. Thanks, guys, love you

:21:30.:21:40.

too! COMMENTATOR: Shearer, it is the goal, it is the record goal for

:21:41.:21:41.

Shearer. Henry. Thierry Henry. This is our team. Sir Alex Ferguson,

:21:42.:22:01.

naturally is the manager. I'm sure most of you will disagree but that's

:22:02.:22:05.

the nature of football and opinion and that's why we love it.

:22:06.:22:08.

Well, as it turns out, most of you agree.

:22:09.:22:13.

Nearly 400,000 of you picked your team on the website.

:22:14.:22:20.

And remarkably there's just one change.

:22:21.:22:21.

Ian Wright will be delighted that his request to have

:22:22.:22:23.

Paul Scholes floating in the ether has been answered,

:22:24.:22:26.

So much synergy between the pundits and the public. One glaring

:22:27.:22:34.

omission, there is no current Premier League player in there. If

:22:35.:22:37.

you had to go for the current players, Chris? Tony Adams should be

:22:38.:22:43.

in that team, no doubt! Current player, I'd go for Harry Kane. A one

:22:44.:22:50.

season wonder, supposedly? Madness. He could get close to Alan Shearer's

:22:51.:22:54.

record, if not break it. A tall order but he is outstanding. Tony

:22:55.:23:00.

Adams, Lee Dixon, Steve Bould. You can't just put Arsenal players!

:23:01.:23:05.

Current players, probably Kante, I would take out Lampard and put in

:23:06.:23:10.

Kante so you have a defensive midfielder, so it is more balanced,

:23:11.:23:15.

thinking with my gaffer's hat on. He can run and run. And the longevity

:23:16.:23:21.

that seemed to sway them with some decisions, back-to-back, he could be

:23:22.:23:26.

there for a long time. Potentially back to back-to-back. I wonder how

:23:27.:23:28.

different the decision would have been if there was a former foreign

:23:29.:23:34.

Gemili player. It is a very English side. Yes, it would have been

:23:35.:23:38.

interesting. -- former foreign Premier League player.

:23:39.:23:41.

There's a week left in the transfer window, bringing with it

:23:42.:23:44.

the usual dose of rumour, speculation, unsettled

:23:45.:23:45.

It's something most Premier League managers despise, but spare

:23:46.:23:48.

In this case, Liverpool fan Tom Price.

:23:49.:23:57.

The last few weeks have really taken it out of me. This whole argument,

:23:58.:24:05.

leave or remain, so damaging and corrosive but it seems like we have

:24:06.:24:08.

an answer. Philippe Coutinho is staying. Remain means Remain. For

:24:09.:24:21.

now, obviously! To quote Sharon from EastEnders, Phil, what have you done

:24:22.:24:26.

to me? Nothing worse than being abandoned by somebody you love, I

:24:27.:24:37.

should know. It's been agony, just waiting and watching social media

:24:38.:24:39.

constantly for any news, not knowing if one of the most important people

:24:40.:24:43.

in your life is going to be there or not. You put everything else on

:24:44.:24:49.

hold. I mean, sure, it started as love. Can I get a triple, please? It

:24:50.:24:55.

ticked all the boxes, especially that one in the opposition end, with

:24:56.:25:00.

the goalkeeper in it. Another belter from Coutinho! As a football fan,

:25:01.:25:05.

you try and prepare yourself for that moment when your favourite

:25:06.:25:08.

player leaves your club. The first thing to be aware of is that you up

:25:09.:25:13.

not the first. Look at Benteke, Andy Carroll leaving Newcastle, Mane

:25:14.:25:19.

leaving Southampton. Oh, wait. Are we the bad guys? If it does happen,

:25:20.:25:26.

you've got to make a clean break. Don't let it stick with you, don't

:25:27.:25:29.

spend the rest of your life haunted by these people. My friend Rob is a

:25:30.:25:36.

Spurs fan. Rob, hello, mate. How are you? Good, good. You know highlight

:25:37.:25:44.

-- who I bumped into. Sol Campbell. Oh, that BLEEP

:25:45.:25:49.

, that absolute BLEEP . It is important not to do anything

:25:50.:25:55.

silly on the rebound, as in all break ups. But do not just fall in

:25:56.:26:01.

love with the first person you see. Liverpool, it is Rickie Lambert.

:26:02.:26:06.

What do I know? I know he's staying but for how long, does he really

:26:07.:26:12.

wants to be there? I just... Sometimes there's only one thing to

:26:13.:26:18.

do. That's it. I'm done with footballers. My heart has been

:26:19.:26:22.

broken too many times. Never again. Time for me to heal and have some

:26:23.:26:26.

may time. # What do you get when you fall in

:26:27.:26:30.

love? # A guy with a pin to burst your

:26:31.:26:33.

bubble # That's what you get for all your

:26:34.:26:37.

trouble # I'll never fall in love again

:26:38.:26:46.

# Ooh! I really needed that. Cheers, John. Alexander-Arnold. Who is that

:26:47.:27:00.

guy? Tom is not handling it well! I imagine that there were a few tears

:27:01.:27:04.

when you left Norwich, Chris. A lot of the farming community were

:27:05.:27:08.

distraught! Is not so much at Chelsea? I think that the manager

:27:09.:27:17.

was distraught. Not many farmers in Chelsea. As a club that like selling

:27:18.:27:22.

its big players, do you allow yourself that emotional attachment

:27:23.:27:26.

any more? I did but you have hit the nail on the head, I have let go a

:27:27.:27:30.

little bit because there is the saga with Sanchez, whether he will go,

:27:31.:27:35.

many Arsenal fans would rather he ran down his contract to the end and

:27:36.:27:42.

let him leave and go on a Bosman. We've seen some elite players

:27:43.:27:47.

leaving, Henry and Fabregas to Barcelona, van Persie to Man United.

:27:48.:27:53.

We are used to it but it hurts to see them posing with the other

:27:54.:27:56.

shirts. It's it more hurtful to see them going to the top clubs? If they

:27:57.:28:00.

are at the end of their careers, they moving gently down the league,

:28:01.:28:05.

it isn't as Hurd fell, if we are looking at the boyfriend and

:28:06.:28:09.

girlfriend scenario. If they upgrade, it is more hurtful, if you

:28:10.:28:12.

see your former partner and they have a better looking partner, it

:28:13.:28:18.

hurts! It is a similar analogy. Not getting that analogy? I get it,

:28:19.:28:20.

yeah! Before we leave you,

:28:21.:28:23.

let's have a look at this Bournemouth's quest for a first

:28:24.:28:26.

Premier League point won't be easy as they host Man City in the early

:28:27.:28:29.

kick off on Saturday. There are four 3 o'clock kick offs,

:28:30.:28:32.

with Leicester going to Old Trafford There are four fixtures on Sunday,

:28:33.:28:35.

with big games at Chelsea and Liverpool, Spurs are looking

:28:36.:28:39.

to end their Wembley hoodoo against Burnley, and can West Brom

:28:40.:28:41.

continue their perfect start Thanks to Chris and

:28:42.:28:44.

Nick for being here. Best of luck this weekend, going to

:28:45.:28:48.

get a result? Yes, 3-1. Don't forget you can catch up

:28:49.:28:54.

on anything you've missed from the Premier League show

:28:55.:28:56.

on the BBC iPlayer. And next week, we've got a transfer

:28:57.:28:58.

deadline day special for you. Until then, as always,

:28:59.:29:01.

we've got you covered. The whole game in full

:29:02.:29:12.

here on 5 live. It's been a knockout day

:29:13.:29:14.

in the Premier League.
