These are the subjects we will be talking about over the next 45

minutes. More of the same from Chelsea,

who lose a seventh league game Jamie Vardy scores for

a ninth game in a row as Leicester He'll take charge of them

for the first time this afternoon We'll look ahead to the North London

derby, with Arsenal in need of a reaction

to their midweek defeat in Europe. And we'll keep you across the FA Cup

first round. We can look at the newspaper

headlines. The sun have used the headline white ban man. The Sunday

mail have gone with doomed. The Mirror have gone with Chelsea as

well and their headline is fool Britannia. We will move on to

Chelsea in a minute. Let's start with the North London derby.

It is live on 5Live at 4 o'clock this afternoon.

Is it a finely balanced game? Yes, the two microform teams from the

opening day of the season, Tottenham have yet to taste defeat in the

Premier League. There is a feel-good factor around the White Hart Lane.

That makes it finely balanced. There is an optimism that Pochettino is

generated. Results in terms of the points tally he has got this season.

He has not reinvented the wheel, but it is a young squad, they disunity

about it. There was a hint of disunity through Andros Townsend,

and Pochettino dealt with it firmly. Even though in terms of league

position and results over a long period of time, Pochettino has not

done better or worse than previous Tottenham managers, and there have

been plenty of those over the last five years, he has generated this

idea that stems from the hard work and positive football that the play.

Tottenham are progressing. Because they are progressing in this very

can way, Shay Given, we have spoken a lot about them this season. There

is no soap opera around them. Everything is going very nicely.

That is the thing, they are quietly going about their business. They are

at the top of the league table, in the top half. The manager works very

hard on how they set up and play. We are talking about Chelsea and

Manchester United every week, but Tottenham are quietly getting

victories. With the way Chelsea are playing, Tottenham will be

favourites for a Champions League place. Maybe the situation they are

in is quite familiar, on the edge of the top four. You look to the future

with Tottenham. Pochettino is building something. Last year, they

had temporary, Adebayor, Soldado. That feels like a different era. It

is such a different Tottenham. You see faith in the young players. Eric

Dier did not start well. He's holding player. Harry Kane is coming

into form. He's going to stick with them. He is building for the future.

Since when do Tottenham and Daniel Levy build for the future? They are

building for the future off the field. Their training ground is one

of the best in the Premier League, the new stadium is one of the best.

Well he decide to build for the future and give Pochettino and

Neagle. Why would they not do that? -- an era. The fact you're throwing

that out there suggest that you think he might not do that. They

have a good hard-working squad, quite a bit of talent. I think they

are shy upfront. Say they do not finish in the top four, but six or

seven. What do they do? He has a record. In the last few seasons,

they have been fourth, fifth, six, that sort of place in the table.

We'll Daniel Levy recognise, this is a relatively young manager with a

young squad going places? Will he say, this is for the future, let's

build for the long-term, not sell our best players when the bids come

in from Harry Kane and Dele Alli. This comes back to the discussion I

have had about Mourinho. Not everyone can finish in the top four.

Not every club that thinks they ought to be top four can be top

four. You cannot have every season those clubs that miss out throwing

the baby out with the bath water because they have not finished in

the top four. The project for Tottenham cannot be the top four

because they are trying to build a new stadium. They are not investing

in the players and wages that other clubs are. Daniel Leavy has got to

look at the long-term. Why not this season, in the top four. When you

analyse Tottenham, the statistics show that they made more titles than

any other side in the Premier League. They try and win the ball

back within three seconds, that is Mourinho's big philosophy. --

Pochettino's. When you analyse them, do they look high pricing, winning

the ball back as quickly as possible? I am surprised. You would

not associate Tottenham team with the best tacklers in the week. By

all accounts Pochettino drills them. He uses the three second rule to get

the ball back as quickly as possible. If you get the ball back

in the opposition have, you're creating chances straightaway. There

will be Arsenal fans listening who are saying, you crazy Tottenham as

much as you like, but you know that we will go on and win the derby 3-1

or whatever it may be? Yes, they are catching up with Arsenal, even in

terms of the stadium and the manager who can build a dynasty, the

longevity that Arsene Wenger has had. Arsenal will show their recent

record against Tottenham. They will be favourites, but it is in the

balance. The game in midweek for Arsenal, psychologically, they got

hammered. They might have expected to lose, but to get that beating, it

has an impact. You mentioned that Tottenham do not get many injuries.

Arsenal have lots of them. If Koscielny is not fit, Tottenham will

have a real chance. Thierry Henry in the Sun newspaper has described

Arsenal as Jekyll and Hyde, saying it is sometimes difficult to believe

they are the same side. I know he is making that comment after the Bayern

Munich results. There are foreign in the lead has been very good. Can you

isolate them, if you're in that squad as a player? Bayern Munich are

one of the best teams in the world. Even when they played at the

Emirates Stadium, they played Arsenal of the pitch. They are so

good at home, Bayern Munich. Two months ago, I said Arsenal for the

Arsenal fan who said that Bayern Munich score four five in every home

game, so we made them look average. The Arsenal travelled would have

qualify. If they got into the Europa league, it would be a disaster for

their scheduling. They need to be out of the Champions League. Would

you forget about you? Absolutely. They should play the kids in the

last couple of games. It is a broader subject, but I do not buy

into how it really should affect you, these games. We will come onto

that. I do not understand why it firstly, Sunday is different to

Wednesday, Saturday. One viewer says that he thinks that injuries will

play a big part for Arsenal today. Ryan says that Pochettino is the

best Tottenham manager since Harry Redknapp. Let's move on to the game

and the Brittania Stadium yesterday, Stoke beating Chelsea, 1-0. Noel

Jose Mourinho to face the media. Ramires got the short straw in the

Chelsea dressing room. We played very well, but we did not score.

That is football. If you play well and you do not score and you can

see, you lose the game. Was it strange not having Jose Mourinho

with you today? Yes, it is strange. When we look to the bench, we can

see Jose on the bench. Today, he is not there. We have the assistance on

the bench. It is strange, because Mourinho is our coach. You have

described Chelsea as specialists in losing, Andy Dunn. Obviously a

They could not respond when Stoke scored. A response would have been

automatic in any season over the last ten, the response would have

On Wednesday night, Jonathan Northcroft, the most positive thing

was how they did respond when Dynamo Kiev brought it back to 1-1. They

went again and they did not struggle when they conceded. I went to the

Brittania Stadium thinking that they had turned a corner, but everything

is so fragile about Chelsea. They fall back into bad habits. Without

Mourinho there, it let us look at the Teemore and not just write about

him. The striker is not scoring and they are defending terribly, which

is a lethal combination. It means you can play well and lose. Stoke

have played them twice in three weeks. You can give away as many

secrets as you want. Did you feel before both games that they are more

vulnerable than they have been? Was that the discussion? It was a good

time to play them. They played really well yesterday. In the cup

Game two weeks ago they played really well as well. We won on

penalties. In the media the next day, you read, Chelsea are terrible.

Chelsea are a great team. For whatever reason, results are not

going their way, and we at Stoke have to capitalise. That is the

other thing, everyone that is playing them at the moment will be

thinking, the air of invincibility last season as champions has gone.

As human beings, the confidence will drop. They are champions of

England, but the urge you mean beings. Yesterday, they were playing

very well. It is true. You're in the stadium and you almost -- you always

thought that Stoke would score, especially with players like

Shaqiri. And Arnautovic. With Mourinho not there, you can strip

away the controversy and the cult of Mourinho, around the whole issue,

and you look at the players. Defensively, they are vulnerable.

The left back yesterday had a terrible time. The different

defensive combinations always looked like they can be got at. They did

yesterday. It was a good move from Shaqiri, and Chelsea could not deal

with it. You go there yesterday, and you think, I cannot see any way that

Stoke will not score at any point. I went there last year when Stoke

played Chelsea. That was the game when Phil Bardsley absolutely lumpy

Eden Hazard. It was in Chelsea's face. And you thought, Chelsea will

still make this. That is the difference.

Manchester United, one the air of inVincibility goes, players play

different against you. Stoke knew what they were up against. They had

a lot of mental strength. We'll wait for Chelsea to become vulnerable.

Stoke should take credit too. Created a few more chances than just

the goal. Chelsea are still a good team. Two things, we'll come on to

Jack Butland. If you are a goalkeeper behind the back four that

is constantly changing, how difficult is that for that defensive

five? I feel a bit for Asmir. The number one is out with a knee

injury. Begavich has come in for stick. If you're changing the back

four. Asmir is one of the better players. He made a mistake for one

of the goals last week. If you've not got a settled back four as a

goal keep are, he's says -- goalkeeper. He's settling in and

taking a lot of flack himself. A back four constantly changing, how

difficult is that for that back four as well? As a unit, we always harp

back to David seamen and Adams. The same back four, the understanding

you have is unbelievable. The only way to do that is playing week in,

week out. The more the back four are changed, people's form dips or

suspension or injury, it is difficult for the goalkeeper and

back four to look solid. We had a few chances yesterday. Could have

scored maybe another goal. You mentioned, Jonathan, gave everyone

the chance to concentrate on the team yesterday rather than Mourinho,

did it show why maybe he wanted the players in the summer when you

watched yesterday? It did. He wanted a young centre back. He definitely

needs stability there. He also, interestingly, Chelsea tried to get

Marcial and tried to compete with United. The only worry is Diego

Costa. His dark side, if you like, his ill discipline is coming out at

the same time his goals are fading. He's scored six in 28. He doesn't

have backups. You can't be a top team in that situation. You can see

why he wanted another striker to put pressure on Costa. I suggest Ryan

Shawcross isn't that much over on the dark side is he a very fragrant

man? Fresh. You play half an hour of high-level football. He's not going

to be fragrant. No, just a bit of deoat rant. Thank you very much for

your texts and tweets on Chelsea. Jags, I think Chelsea miss the

Drogba influence. Benjamin said Chelsea lost four games since they

conceded a goal. Would Chelsea fans be happier if they were boring but

at the top? Aside from the good football Stoke played yesterday and

this season, Jack Butland, the number one at Stoke? Has been

sensational this year. He's been our player of the season. Ever ary week

has been consistent. Big saves in games. He's only 22, extremely young

in goal keeping terms. If you look at my age, he's 18 years left in

him. This conversation is getting more depressing for you by the

minute! I'll get me coat. He's starting out in his career. Stoke's

a fantastic club. Great goal keeping coach and the gaffer. Great faith in

him. He has a huge fuel future. He's pushing Joe Hart in the England

squad. Great for England both will go to France next summer. He's going

to be put into these England games. Roy Hodgson hates ex-peermenting. If

you're going to learn anything, is Jack Butland ready. If Joe gets

injured a week before the tournament and Jack's not played any games

we'll say why didn't he play in November in friendly games? Joe

won't lank me for saying this, but it's a great opportunity for Jack to

play at that level. I interviewed him for 5 live. He was interested in

the dynamic between the first or second choice goalkeeper but how you

still have to work very much of the team for the benefit of the greater

team. Yes, he wants to be England's number one, but, at the same time,

he'll work with Joe Hart to provide competition for him as well. The key

thing about goalkeepers, every game we start early, train together, work

hard together. Pretty much get on well together. We can't pick the

team. The goal keeping coach doesn't pick the team. The manager does.

When Joe Hart plays for England I'm sure he's supportive. We call it the

goalkeeper's union. We are very much supportive. You need it at club and

international level. Last year, it's fantastic. You have a role to play

in the squad. Particularliy internationally when you go away

with that squad of 23 players. It is important you have goalkeepers

working together. Going back to Arsenal, they are supposed to hate

each other. That must be tricky. Every day knowing, I hate you you

hate me. You had a number two there for a long time. Steve Harper? We

get on great. It's most... Get on well will you... I was reading a

book on Germany and how they reinvented themselves. Can and

Lehmann. The most significant thing in 2006 when it went to penalties

against Argentina, Cannes shook Lehmann's hand. It changed

everyone's mentality. You're injured, so out of the play-offs for

Ireland against Bosnia? A big week for Ireland. The had an operation a

Villa against Manchester City. Who's he gone for? He's taken three

training sessions this week but made six changes from the 3-1 defeat at

Tottenham. Interestingly, four of the signings are back in the side

today. Richards is back from suspension. He replaces Joleon

Lescott. Amavi is in place of Richardson. In comes back Una

Westwood and Agbonlahor. Grealish is a substitute. I saw them rip is aeer

apart. Yaya Toure continues in this slightly more forward role in

midfield playing off Bonne. As he ended with Manchester City, let's

mention that city do look very good with father napped Ian owe? It lets

tour aattack and score goals. What would you do with Silva when he

comes back? Let him play. Long-term, Silva has to play. Fernando is a

fairly ordinary footballer. He's the one I'd look to get out of the team.

I'd still try to give Yaya Toure some platform to go further forward.

says this may sound ridiculous, the team selection is just as important

as the result today. I want to see a transformed team. Just a bit from

the team news, maybe a few of the journey men, I don't mean that in a

disrespectful way, players who've had two or three clubs have been

left out by Remi Garde? I think it's extremely significant team

selection. You've a couple of those players he the the club brought from

France who we were led to believe under Tim Sherwood were nowhere near

developed enough or ready to play for Villa's first team. Veretout

being one. That selection smacks of, do we now believe what we were told?

These were too raw, too inexperienced, physically not up to

the Premier League. Now we'll find out. A really exciting selection for

Villa fans. Not saying it's the right one. Won't know until we see

it. A dramatic one. Some Villa fans were saying after Monday night's

defeet at Spurs, we have concentrated on all the young ones

brought from France but there are a lot of players at Villa who have

been around a bit and are still trying to find the club where they

are going to be successful? Possibly. Going back to the team

sheet for today, Remi Garde's making a statement. He knows these French

players than anybody sitting here or at Aston Villa loo. He'll have seen

them in the French league. He has faith in these players. They are

ready to play. Going back to Lescott and Richardson, other players parked

to one side, even Jack Grealish on the bench. Gil came on on Wednesday.

Played well well. Grealish, no-one's guaranteed. These French players, he

has faith in. Doesn't look like they've done things as a club wrong

way round. Usually you appoint the manager, sign the players. They've

bought a set of players and found a manager who knows them and can work

with them. He has banned them from speaking French? He says he wants

all the squad to speak English on the training ground. It takes a long

time to learn the language, especially if you're a young

footballer. I remember one of Tim's last infer views where he was asked

if the lank wage is an issue. He said, no, I physically move them

around the ground. I'm not having a go. He can show them with where to

go. Not having a go. Clearly if these young French players are

learning English, he can speak to them in French. He wants English to

the the dominant language on the ground. It's Manchester City v Aston

Villa. You expect City to win. You can put out a young, exciting

liningup. Give the Villa fans something to give hope for the rest

of the season. They'll need that. If they were to lose today, they'd be

six points off safety. They need to play like a Europe Pa league team.

If you look at points per game. We talk about new manager bounce. Look

at Sunderland, if the squad's not good enough, you can put Sam

Allardyce in there, survival specialist and things don't change.

We'll find out how good that Villa squad is. Fabbon Delph ask on the

bench for Manchester City. If he comes on will Villa fans hammer him?

He did a lot for the club. A bit of a circus about his move to

Manchester City. Going to stay, going. That may be on Villa fan's

minds. You want to see a club of that size, the fan base and history

at the club, you want to see them at least in the top half of the league.

Where they're at in the league is a shame. They have to turn it round.

They have to get a real run of form going to stay in the division. Did

you find that history inspiring or a burden? Probably a lot of players

think it's a burden. Because I'm round the block a few times, it's

fine by me. Younger players, the expectation levels is very high.

Sometimes, Villa are playing away from home. Today, there will be a

big crowd, I can't see past a man City victory. Some of the players on

the pitch, it is a tough ask for some of them. If Aston Villa win two

games on the trot they may be out of the relegation zone. Joel, this

villa team needs guard to -- Garde to get bind them. Sort the defence

out and the team may gain confidence to attack.

Claudio Ranieri spoke to Jon Acres after yesterday's 2-1 win over

When you took the job at the start of this season, in the summer, could

you have imagined that you would be level at the top of the table on

points with Arsenal and Manchester City in November? Of course, no. You

know very well, November is not me. It is important to take points. The

target is 40 points for us. If Jamie Vardy had missed that penalty, what

would you have said to rehab Mariners, who gave him the ball? It

was all right. -- Riyad Mahrez. Jamie wanted to take the penalty,

that was normal. What a run he is on, nine matches. Have you worked

with many strikers in the past who have gone on that sort of run? Yes,

Gabriel Byrne district, I think he scored in the first 11, at

Fiorentina. -- Gabriel Batistuta. The record in the top flight in

England is a living, but that was before the Premier League was

invented. Ruud van Nistelrooy is the record in the Premier League with

ten. Earlier on, you were saying that we have got to stop banging on

Every time, he picks the right run. He seems to be getting quicker, his

finishing, it is accomplished and composed. He has that composure

about him know when he is through. He is beyond the story, he is a

proper Premier League star. He is also working with the manager who is

really right for him. That was a great name for a Ranieri to bring

out of the hat, the Argentinian at Fiorentina. He promotes football.

The counterattacking style, it is perfect for Jamie Vardy. Going back

to England, if he's going to be used, do not put out on the left and

may contract back. Use him as he is used at Leicester. We should have a

look at him at international level. They are playing good opposition in

Spain and France. That will test them, Spanish defenders, French

defenders, they know a trick or two, it will see how he has developed. If

he does come in in those games and plays up front and does not score,

or does not rip Spain and France apart, will not then go the other

way, negatively? I do not think that will happen. He is not going to play

all those minutes against Spain and France. He will get the chance, I am

sure. Just as it has taken time for him to develop into this top player,

it will take him time to become a top international player. He has to

be given time to get used to the environment, the surroundings, the

atmosphere around the squad. The demands of international football

are different. When he plays at international level, he will not get

five chances, he might get one. He has to be ready for that one chance

and take it. Roy Hodgson says he'll only take

fully fit players to the Euros, which has been interpreted

as a warning to the likes of "I would rather have 23 players who

are all fit and ready to go. That sounds like common-sense, but

we have been hit in the past with lots of England squads were less

than fully fit players have been taken. Daniel Sturridge's name was

part of the question. He is now the date. You think, England never learn

from their history. Taking injured players to tournaments is something

they repeat again and again. If you're talking about Jamie Vardy,

England meet his pace up front. If Daniel Sturridge and Welbeck are

going to be entered, that is another reason why he has got to play. Do

you think that if and when Daniel Sturridge and Welbeck comeback, they

will have to prove themselves again? Or will they jump back to the

top of the queue? You would like to think it would go on current form.

The concern for Daniel Sturridge for every Liverpool and England fan is

what is the underlying problem. You never play a game when you're 100%.

You're always feeling something, but once you go across the white line,

you do not feel anything, you would run through a brick wall because

you're in the zone. Getting Daniel across the line is the biggest

problem for Liverpool and England. It seems obvious, in terms of Daniel

Sturridge, I think he would go back to the top. He has been good enough.

He has not had enough games, but for Liverpool, yes. For England, his

performances have been good enough for him to be classified as an

established England player. I think he will but in terms of not taking

fit players, they have done it before with Wayne Rooney in 2006 and

even David Beckham stayed in Japan and Korea when he probably should

not have, fitness wise. Roy Hodgson might take an unfit player, but it

will depend on who the player is. It is as simple as that. Will he take a

not fully fit Danny Welbeck, no. Will he take Wayne Rooney in the

same circumstances, yes. One viewer agrees with Shay Given that Asmir

Begovic has been the best player for Chelsea. He has prevented greater

embarrassment. Get in touch with us. Let's get the half-time score from

Back to the Premier League, and victory for Norwich yesterday. This

is Alex Neil. We changed their style yesterday. We were not keeping

enough clean sheets. We were playing pretty well in games but we were not

getting the points we needed so we opted for a different tactic. I

thought the lads responded well. At times, conceding possession at home

is not something we are used to do, certainly since I have been here,

but I thought we had the best opportunities in the game. When it

counted, we managed to put one in the net. We were solid at the back.

Our first clean sheet in the league, which is great. Newcastle and place

-- Norwich only had 30% possession in that match. Is this the way that

the game is going? It is interesting. There was a marked drop

off in the statistics in the home percentage possession. At the

lowest, it had been 40% in the modern game, all the way up to 61%.

Comparing Norwich City and Bournemouth, Eddie Howe said that he

was not changing anything, he was going with what he had, and if he

was relegated, that is the way it is. Alex Neil has said, we have got

to change, they went to 4-4-2. They got the three points. I am always

suspicious of a manager that says, this is my philosophy, it has to be

like this every game. That is not the reality of sport. Every opponent

is different. It is good to see a young manager learning and trying

things. You have to have the players to implement that. If Eddie Howe

thought, I will try 33% possession in the next game, that might work,

would he have the players that could carry that out? Players that could

defend that well. Is it very hard to switch from being a team that wants

the ball and wants to dominate possession and has done something of

a certain way to a team that stays back, does not keep hold of the

ball, waits for a mistake and goes? Is that hard? You need to change the

drills you do in training. Going back to Eddie Howe, they have come

through the Championship, blasted teams away, and yesterday, they

played Newcastle and the Newcastle goalkeeper was man of the match.

They created so many chances. Why would you want to change how they

play, they just need to be more clinical in front of goal. The

results will come. They must get to a stage in the season when they

think, we are not winning, we are adrift at the bottom. We need to try

something. If you play in a football team, it must be hard to say,

listen, you do not need to have the ball that much. Mourinho showed that

in his Inter Milan team in games against big European sides. It must

be difficult. Alex Neil was saying, we were at home yesterday, we are

going to sit back and take them. You could not do that to West Brom.

Swansea were going to want the ball. You knew that. Just be in the centre
