An off a three rounds of the MotoGP season, it had a familiar figure in

-- Field, but in round four, things took a surreal twist. And at the

end of this 22 of the season, I will not be racing in the 2013

trend Winship. These shock decision by its Turner macro sent everyone

Cal Crutchlow would take a factory ride like a rat up a drainpipe. Who

writes this! But then, there's plenty of other

young faces looking for it top ride And, of course, an old classic.

Valentino Rossi isn't finished yet, On French shores, Jorge Lorenzo

navigated his way to the top. Today, he returns home to defend his

position. Yes, as you may have guessed, we

are in Barcelona for a Round 5 of the MotoGP season. Jorge Lorenzo

has an eight-point cushion at the sneaking up in the 6th, wasn't it

great? To see bossy macro back on a MotoGP podium two weeks ago. --

When push comes to shove, he is up there. Jeremy Burgess said, the

problem is we have a summer sport. They have to get it fixed up for

the driver. I can see them put in in sprinklers! It is great to see

that colour and movement we get from Valentino at the front. People

were saying, how good was that, it was because he was in it. It was

strange to commentate. The good news is he is spending the next two

years in MotoGP and for a certain Valentino Rossi, the search for

Hello, I am Mr Rossi. His talent is amazing, he is nine

term world champion. He wins lots of raters. The he entertained

people world wide. Valentino Rossi has been the best jam hint I have

never commentated on. Be it is amazing to have an Italian rider

like him, on an Italian bike. was important that Ducati and Rossi

could become a dream come true. But it did not happen. I think that the

project is going to take a little bit longer than it did in the past.

And, the challenge was to try something again. Probably didn't

expect it to be quite as difficult at it -- as it has been. It was

unlikely in hindsight to be the dream run be had in Yamaha anyway,

Valentino was fairly vocal about where we were after the first race.

The first two razors were very bad. But, from Estoril, we have worked

in a better way, we are growing up. This year, we are struggling a

little bit. I know Ducati are making an effort to improve. The

feeling you have or don't have is difficult to bring. His character

is very strong, he'd always tries his best. Like I say, we want to

see him more on the podium. I don't think he has backed out to be

something different from what he was. He still feels in perfect

shape, he wants the right bike to win. To show to all of the fans at

there, and Ducati, that Valentino Rossi is still a force to be

reckoned with. The podium, up on the wet weather,

was fantastic. Our potential is, during the season, to make another

step, to fight with Honda and Will meet -- will we see more of

that cheeky smile? I am sure. You remember Mr Rossi? I was an

Astra Borrie -- Astro Boy guy. heard, Ducati are working very hard.

But it is not much closer. tested after the last race, back to

square one. But they are testing again. They have testing on Monday

and Wednesday. They took a bite from Yamaha and went from losing,

to winning. They have to do it the other way. You have to wish them

luck, we do need him at the front. We want him back up there. The is

still the most popular person. The queues are extraordinarily. --

extraordinary. Casey Stoner on pole position,

exhibition stuff at the weekend. he loves this circuit which is bad

news for everyone else. Jorge Lorenzo felt disappointed not to

get pole position. Cal Crutchlow, front row, how about that? Casey

Stoner it isn't relaxing in his retirement year, 110%. No backing

off. Cal Crutchlow in the front row. Three times on the front row.

lastest in warm-up, in damp conditions. He is so solid.

Honestly, he is as solid as I have ever seen a British rider. He is

really on the pace. In front of Ben Spies. The second quickest Yamaha.

He is only two-tenths away from pole position. That was the warm-up

this morning. Treacherous conditions, slow, slippery.

Horrible to watch. Cal Crutchlow, again, fastest. Ellison went down

and wrecked a bike, but they have him fixed up again. Treacherous

conditions. Ellison, one of the few riders to crash. The sudden rain

makes the surface so greasy. Everyone was having trouble. Where

Ellison was, he was taking it slowly. They were having big moment.

The track is Creasy, with a little bit of rain. It looks like the sun

is trying to come through. It will still be different conditions to

yesterday. It may help some. Whether they will use the soft or

the hard tyre macro. The track temperature will be down. The air

temperature is only 27, a lot easier than yesterday. We will keep

you posted. Our focus is on the race today. A lot of the talk this

weekend it is about next year. After about bombshell from Casey

Stoner in France, the rider market is into a frenzy, and Jorge Lorenzo

holds all of the aces which made it difficult if you are his boss at

Yamaha. Far I have to put myself in Honda's

shoes, what would I do in their shoes? If you take Casey out of the

occasion, -- equation, Church is in the running. Are you -- Jorge is in

the running. A I am confident about a proposal.

We can offer a very competitive package, with a team he knows well,

on a bike performing well. The Yamaha proposal will be very, very

good. Whether he accepts it or not, this is not in might influence.

riders and their perspective? Lorenzo moves, everyone moves. He

has it all his way. For Cal Crutchlow, it will be hard.

Truthfully, you cannot replace him. He, and Dovizioso, if Bradley Smith

places. All the way down. That was the case after a few rounds for

Ellison who got the word from his manager he needed to step his game

up otherwise he would be replaced by Byrne. A tough call in that team.

We are here in Barcelona, James. A beautiful day. I thought I would

offer you a swap. I know you like mountain bike rising -- racing.

That sounds quite a good deal to me, any excuse to get on a mountain

James, up here at the Castle, not a bad you down. It is nice, I haven't

seen this side of Barcelona before. Round 5, we have come here after a

decent result in France, top CRT. It has been good. To go from a low

point, and then to France, in one phrase, it has been good for the

whole team, a morale-booster. I am looking forward to this brand, to

carry on the momentum. And with Paul bird macro, after the

speculation and whether -- Paul Bird. And questions about Byrne.

What came out in the press was blown out of control. The damage

was done. I went away for a week and didn't go near anyone and let

things died down. The best way to recover from something like that is

to prove a point, really. Tell me about the race? It was a fault on

race for us watching, what was it like to ride? Our start wasn't that

bad. In the first two corners, it was a case of tried to stay on the

bike and chip away. I settled down and thought, let the group come to

me. I found as of passing people, like Ben Spies. I didn't see him

again. And then, I passed Karel Abraham, that was pretty good. I

found a bit of confidence. It snowballed from there.

Unfortunately, Petrucci went down. I took advantage of that. It was

cat and mouse. Then I pulled away. It was epic. It must have been a

big release from the tensions of the race and the weekend. Having

that moment with the team. It was anything. Just crossing the line,

anything disappeared, I felt 10 stone lighter. It was great. It was

even better in the pit lane, I was heading for the garage and saw

everyone cheering. I thought everyone looked so happy. I pulled

into the parc ferme. And hadn't even realised. I thought it would

be Hernandez. So, a double bonus. We will hopefully see more of that.

James, show me a few of your skills on the bike. That sounds good to me,

A real boost for James Ellison and things looking up here, too. I have

run into Wayne Gardner at the edge of the grid, the 1987 world

champion and Australian, too. What is your view about Casey's

retirement? It's a sad to see as an Australian. He is at the top of his

game but every rider has to make a decision at some stage and they all

have different reasons for it. Obviously Casey has his and has

called it a day. I found it a bit strange early in the year to be

doing that but he obviously has his It will be a great loss for

Australia, such a talented rider. He will show them how to do it

today. It is a shame. Do you think he will stay strong from pole like

last year? We vowed to doubt. I think the race is between those two.

Casey will be hard to stop, now he has the pressure off, it feels

better, you go out and try to prove it from there. Casey will be hard

to stop but don't be surprised, I think Lorenzo is a very determined

guy, a good friend of mine, he is helping my kids out as well. It is

between those two but I think Cal Crutchlow as a weapon. It will be a

just relocated over here with my kids and they really want to go

road racing so we decided to come here for it. We are doing well. The

kids are doing great. It is a tough game over here in Spain but that is

what we are here for, to judge ourselves on the competition. It is

great to be here and the weather is good. Apart from this morning.

Casey Stoner scored a cab to's first ever pole at this track in

what we saw in qualifying yesterday? The rain at this morning

will make things tricky and we don't know what the weather will do

through the race. It might change the grip situation. We had been

building up grip and rubber on the track and the rain will change that

but everybody else's in the same position so we have to see what we

can do. It is the best place to start from, we have to make sure we

season he is getting stronger and stronger and he is in line for a

it is nice to be up here, we have steadily made progress over the

weekend but it is a hot race now. Anything can happen but I am

looking forward to it, I think we can do a good job. We lack in some

areas yesterday and we tried to improve them today but we will see.

The two main contenders, we mention them an earlier, Lorenzo, who lives

in the city centre in Barcelona, a former winner here at this track

and he could ever forget that last battle with Valentino Rossi in 2009

when he lost that in second place. Casey Stoner won here last year.

Looking like a hot favourite to do so again. Now we are getting into

the moment where all the riders make their last minute mental

preparations before the race starts. They all have their own little way

of doing it. Try to keep it low key, because the next 45 minutes will be

all hell breaking loose. Tries to relax, enjoy it, prepare myself,

especially the first lap in my head. He I tried to look on the right

side because my brother is there. Always before starting a look at

him, he does something like this and I know everything will start.

Tried to concentrate for the race, think about the first corner, the

set-up, sometimes we talk about it because maybe the weather changes

so we talk about whether to make adjustments. The sound of the

engine is so high and we are not -- and we feel important, this is

beautiful. The tension, your heart starts to beat. Make sure the

clutch is good, the brakes are hot. Then go. I am close to my little

brother and it always gives me goose bumps to see Aleix

Espargaro's brother there. He has come after a huge crash, has come

to give support to his Big Brother. Charlie, you are almost like

Luckily I am the younger of the I can't wait for this one. I still

think Dani Pedrosa will probably be first into term one. And absolutely.

He had a moment in qualifying which was a really good lap, so 5th does

not represent where he will be and he is good off the line anyway.

Pretty much everyone has gone for the soft tyre, apart from Casey

Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, they have gone for the hard option, front and

rear tyre, meaning that they should be in better shape by the end of

the race. It could be tricky the first couple of laps. That goes to

show how a motorcycle and a riding style can change the tyre option

you are going to use. I'm surprised Dani Pedrosa went for that hard

option because he is a light guy. He said when he was running around

of both of them the times were about the same so obviously a lot

of riders did a race run to see what durability was like. I guess

Casey doing hard rear is no big surprise. We will see a proper drag

race because you have got over a quarter of a mile flat out run, it

is like being a sand upon nearly. They will get to 60 mph in about

2.5 seconds. It does not seem that fast but the problem is getting one

of these bikes of the line, the from real comes up so they need be

100 miles an hour they will leave anything behind, even a Formula One

this morning, dropping away downhill off camber. It was greasy.

We are hoping there will not be rain, that is the last things you

need, as a driver, to have rain on your visor. It rained heavily prior

to the warm-up session yesterday. Cal Crutchlow was fastest in that

session. But now, on the grid, and as Charlie said, Dani Pedrosa is on

the second row. He has been fairly good in the other sessions. Or of

the qualifying sessions have been tight. The top 10 are covered by

one second, very close. When we were chatting to Matt, only a few

tenths. The fastest in qualifying was

Valentino Rossi. But in 2004, showing those of old engines work

as fast if not faster. Three. The Downhill, as we said, very, very

fast indeed. Casey Stoner on pole position. But the guy next to him

next rise. Now we are climbing up again, a long back straight. I

squeeze out Nicky Hayden. In front of Valentino Rossi. Cal Crutchlow

sat behind Casey Stoner. As we go around the last. Have a look at

that, at Ben Spies having a bid to show some good manners. Ben

Dani Pedrosa is also on a hard at the brakes, the real wheel came up.

Bautista looked good in practice but in qualifying it was

disappointing, he needs to do some work. The fastest lap is from Jorge

Lorenzo. The record, 1:for 2.38 held by Dani Pedrosa. Cal Crutchlow,

Spies ran a little bit hot, he was their legs, everybody kicking out.

Something we didn't see until about three years ago. Valentino Rossi

started it. Just to explain, it shifts the weight from your foot,

to the top of your letter, and to the rear of the bike to keep the

wheel down. Look at that. Jorge Lorenzo having a look. Dani Pedrosa,

that is a part of his game. He had to square the corner. On

this long corner, you won't go the today? He did. To close to the

Honda. -- Too close. Look how bumpy lap is torturous to the human body.

Hernandez getting tangled up with Espargaro. Did he get his foot in

the wheel? That could have been a big it

instant for Hernandez. Ellison is up to 13. Very close to being the

top CRT bite. That will do nicely. stuff, he is on a charge. Then at

like Jorge Lorenzo, number 99, in second place, running deep.

Clinging on as opposed to looking over. I don't think he is finding

it easy. At his burly stage, still 20 laps to run, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge

Lorenzo, Dovizioso, that group is clearing. It doesn't look that way.

Pedrosa nose in theory has the tyre that will help him keep the pace up.

what doesn't want to -- Dani Pedrosa doesn't want to, he

compromised his exit. Jorge Lorenzo, with a lovely pass. On the inside.

Dani Pedrosa had to know where to go, a terrific move from Jorge

Lorenzo. Speeds of over 200 mph, Crutchlow. Cal has moved back into

fifth place. Stone a macro will have to really get his head down to

catch up with those boys. They are two seconds down the road, Cal

Crutchlow still staying in touch with stone a macro. You would

expect stone a macro to close that gap down. Dani hung on a bit too

long there. Nicely timed by Jorge Lorenzo. A tough pass, it gave him

raising room. Let us see if Cal Crutchlow, can he claim on to the

back of a Casey Stoner. You expect stone a macro to close down that

gap, he has been fastest in the sessions, particularly when it

counted in qualifying. On Nicky Hayden having a go there. Look at

that, Casey Stoner just staying in touch. Valentino Rossi just moving

in, the battle for seventh place. Getting Bradl behind him. A little

clutch of Ducatis in a row. The Spaniard wanted to make a mark,

Espargaro. Valentino Rossi, down the inside. It doesn't matter if

you are slow in the middle of the corner, but the rider on the

outside has no way to go. You squeeze them over. A nice move by

the nine-times world champion. Bradl back in a position. Bossing

macro moving up a spot. This trio Lorenzo. They were be interesting

to see if Dani Pedrosa can hang on goes on and the others will drop

away. Last time around Casey Stoner was 2.1, is he any closer? No. Not

at all. These three are still pressing on. Casey Stoner and Cal

Crutchlow are having a battle of their own for four. -- 4th. You can

hear the headlines already - Casey Stoner has eased off because he has

retired. It won't stop the headlines. He keeps talking about

the chatter, everybody is talking issues there. If he gets chatter,

that is about the time he gets it. The Cal Crutchlow is carrying the

corner speed. That was a very close moment. Cal Crutchlow find in the

world champion in his wake. -- their at 14th position. He is

lapping faster than De Puniet. would be great to be the fastest

CRT guy in the drive. Valentino Rossi and Casey Stoner were

complaining in the dry session of a lack of traction getting out of the

corners and Stoner seem to think that was an even bigger thing for

with different engine management systems, they worked on a softer

rear swinging arm, aluminium version, Nicky Hayden said he found

it too soft. You have to keep experimenting. Honda took three

years to sort their chassis out and they have it working now. They have

gone to a 1000 cc. You can transfer chassis technology because it is

working very well. Dani Pedrosa is not letting this drop. All over the

back of Lorenzo now. Yamaha, Han -- Honda, Yamaha. That is the front

three. Good performance from Dovizioso. The start really paid

dividends for him. And it was good for Ben Skype -- Ben Spies before

he threw it away. What will he be thinking now? Down 11th place,

when he was expecting to be. horrible thing for him is having to

the bike, to accelerate so fast. Even now with the Boreham strip

changing on these things, so there is a stroke compared to the old

format of 800, it's still reds. They have dropped down a great deal

from what they used to be. The acceleration factor, as soon as you

hit the gear up you don't have to bang another one up. You were

into 12th place now. Last time when he did a 143, he should in theory

get himself easily into the top 10 before the end of this race but you

feel for him. When he finally started to find confidence, Ben

Spies is back and 11th in the championship, not way you would

expect to find him, he is a race winner. Things have not gone his

way, he has been drifting the last few races. Dani Pedrosa is not

guys, hanging in. A terrific ride. We know how good Randy De Puniet is,

he is right there, he has been on the podium before, he has won two

250 races round this track. I think Lorenzo gave him a bit of a run at

this. He saw him move past and set up Dani Pedrosa. Lorenzo coming

back. They did not look as if he thought -- Lorenzo fault that

hour faster, you have to break that bit earlier, it nearly caught him

out. Dovizioso did a cracking job there. Still very much in the

picture. Sometimes it is easier not to set the pace, as long as you are

confident enough that you can stay in touch with a guy that has just

moved past year. Sometimes it is easier to get a measure of them,

feel them out, go a couple of laps. You look to see where you are

stronger, weaker, way you can learn from, save your tyres. It is about

27 degrees out there but you can't follow behind, the engine starts

getting too hot, you're in the warmer air without the cool breeze

running through the radiators, it is vital to keep the temperature

of Des Petraeus a's portfolio of talents but he has worked on it.

is fit now, after the broken collarbone. Dovizioso will be all

over him like a rash now. That was a big breathing space for Dani

Pedrosa. Here is the moment again... Too late, maybe got the slipstream

Dovizioso is coming for him. That has given Danny Bederus a bit of

breathing space. We are about half race distance now. Who has got the

physical strength to ride these bikes? It's would be a turn up for

the books, last time round, the times between them were less than a

tenth apart. The dye seems to be cast for Stone and Cal Crutchlow,

some seconds down the road. A good job from Cal Crutchlow but what is

up with Casey Stoner? I thought he would be the man, he did not get

the start, went for the harder tyres, I think he must have some

chatter issues, something is going on because we know he can lap

faster than this. It seems he has not quite nailed that chatter

situation, it turns up when it wants to. The crew are going to

Stoner was circulating two seconds a lap faster than this in a bridge

know if it cost him too much. He seemed to cut it back just about in

time. The bike was sliding out from under him. Right on the limit their.

because Cal Crutchlow is only one point in front of Dovizioso in the

world championship. If they finish in that order, that will evaporate

today. But look at this, you can visibly see Casey Stoner and Cal

Crutchlow closed in on Dovizioso. Physically closer. Let's measure

that. Dovizioso is falling back there. The gap between Casey Stoner

and the frontrunners is the same. Dovizioso did a 145 last time, he

made a mistake somewhere along the line. He had a slow lap last time

have an issue? It does not look like Lorenzo the fended hard but

running a couple of laps later he is given a real breather to Danny

Petraeus and he will be going as hard as he can to chase him down.

This would be Dani Pedrosa's first win of the season. He started off

round one with a second, Spain, Portugal, third. Dovizioso has a

problem. He is behind his previous that Cal Crutchlow has the same

tyre on. -- we know. Will we get a replay of what went on?

Crutchlow running very hot there, getting Casey Stoner underfoot.

Stone was trying to get past. -- Stoner. This will be a red rag to

able to Cal Crutchlow. -- a ball. - couple of corners there really give

him an issue. It will be nice to get a podium before his home race

coming up in a couple of weeks. Hopefully the crowds will turn out

only 12 seconds of the win. He fell no shame in the race from Cal

Crutchlow. That will drop him down to fifth in the championships.

Dovizioso started off with a 6 in Qatar, seventh in Spain, seventh

and Portugal and a third in France in those wet conditions. And

another third now. Dovizioso there, and you have to say Cal Crutchlow,

they are well-matched team mates, they push each other hard and

attack, came back strong because he pushed me wide in the first turn. I

almost lost control. A bit disappointed today. I wanted to win

really bad. I'm trying to work harder for the next one.

should not have let the leaders go at the start. I ran wide, let Casey

come past and thought we would catch the leaders faster than what

we did. But I could not get around Casey at the end but a fantastic

rate -- ride by Dovizioso. It shows what we are capable of. Maybe a bit

of experience on the day paid off for him and for Casey. It will come

round soon. Silverstone next so a good result here, another

consistent result anyway set us up nicely for our home race. That is

the name of the game. Well done. All set up for Silverstone and two

weeks. He said it. A absolutely. Here we are thinking, hard luck,

never mind, but he finished 5th. Cal Crutchlow very much in touch

and it was all about the start. Dovizioso though, nice for his

team-mate. Can read relations, first podium with Yamaha and what a

race. So tough towards the end there. The end was very difficult

because the grip was zero. We had very difficult but I am really

happy because my speed was crossed with the fastest riders. I really

want to understand tomorrow if we can do something from our bike, or

something dropping, but I want to thank the team, Yamaha, the bike

was good. We worked well. To arrive here, we made a good job. You did.
